Thinkpad Edge with Gobi-2000 WWan card (no sim installed)

Question: Thinkpad Edge with Gobi-2000 WWan card (no sim installed)

When I place a simcard in the cardholder. The Lenovo software says 'no simcard installed'It's a KPN(dutch) simcard. If I search on the internet I can only find information about this controller working with Vodafone cards. Is this my problem? Is there anything I need to change about my settings or anything? When I use the simcard in another USB WWan device it asks for a pin. When it is the lenovo it only says 'no sim card installed'. I hope someone can help me out. thnx for the support.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm getting such mixed information from retailers, and no answer at all from Lenovo after hanging on the phone for an hour. Some retailers say this machine does NOT have WWAN, some say it can be upgraded, and some say it is enabled (ready to go?). I appreciate that there is the NVY4LUK (glossy screen, WWAN upgradable), and NVY5FUK (anti-glare screen, not WWAN upgradable, but I am specifically looking at the top model NVY5EUK.Can anyone state the true position? I don't want to assume it's included if it's not, because the retailer will just claim that they never said it had 3G Broadband in the first place!

Answer:Edge 11 - NVY5EUK: does it have the Gobi 2000 card installed?

An update ... I placed an order today with a UK supplier for an NVY5EUK on the condition that he first find out whether the machine was fully equipped for 3G Broadband - their web site stated 'no', their techie stated 'no', I quoted the 'onebookcatalogue.pdf' from the Lenovo web site, he managed to speak to someone at Lenovo and came back with the answer that it does have full 3G Broadband. As the majority of Lenovo sellers don't seem to know what they are selling (similar problems with the AMD specs too), I wonder how many potential sales are lost because customers think they are getting less than they really are with Lenovo, and go elsewhere for the features they are looking for. Or they get a machine that does not live up to the retailer's spec, and blame Lenovo. It is surely not beyond the wit of Lenovo to publish on their web site a definitive and accurate specifications of all the machines they are currently selling - after all, they are the only ones who can really know. Most retailers seem to rely on www.icecat.biz, which is at best incomplete, and at worst misleading. When my Edge 11 arrives in a couple of days I will know for sure. I trust it will also have the anti-glare screen I am hoping for!

Hello, I've just bought a Gobi 2000 WWAN Card for my Thinkpad Edge 13 in order to use WLAN and WWAN. I assumed that, because I can use this both functions on demand with my T400 (with integrated WWAN option). Now as I got the card I was shocked, that there are not enough screws to hold the WLAN and the WWAN card and that there seems no way in sharing the antenna cables. Do you know a way run the WWAN card together with the former installed WLAN card, cause I would like to use the WWAN option as well as the WLAN option without changing the cards and antenna connectors. Do you know a way to use both cards and share the antenna cables or it is only possible to run one of this both pcie cards ? Regards Jens

HiI recently came by a HP GOBI 2000 wwan cardThis exact model: NEW HP Gobi2000 HSUPA 2G 3G WCDMA WWAN UMTS Wi Fi Card GPS UN2420 I know this might be a long shot, but are there any workarounds to getting such a card to work in a W530?I tried pluggin it in, and whereas the first driver installs, the "Lenovo broadband activation" fails, the card shows up with a question mark in device manager, and troubleshooting it in "adapter settings" states that "there might be a problem with the driver"I know that the chipset should be supported, so what is the problem here? Driver signing? Or Bios whitelist?Any help much obliged

Answer:gobi 2000, wwan not detected - non-lenovo GOBI 2000

Hi, eyeland

Do you have a SIM card inserted in the machine? If not, this will be needed for WWAN access. Also, which version of Windows are you running, and what drivers did you download to get the card to work?

Thanks in advance,Adam

Hi I hope someone could assist.  I bought an E120 as my country does not see the X120e I had purchased a GOBI 2000 WWAN Card from Lenovo re-seller.  The card passes through the whitelist just fine although it is not stated as one of the supported WWAN devices. I tried installing the 7xwc48ww.exe (X120e and Edge 11 WAN drivers) to see if it would work.  The GOBI Loader installs, but the driver does not load, meaning - Under device manager - PORTS - Gobi loader              - Under device manager - Network Adapters - No Gobi WAN Card  I also tried the solution from -http://curiouslynerdy.com/2009/05/qualcomm-gobi-wwan-card-on-windows-7/ but still no joy. I believe the X120 and E120 are very similar, so I assume the Gobi WAN should be able to work. Can someone suggest another solution?   Thanks much!

Hello, I'm experiencing massive problems with the BIOS versions newer than the 1.10a release. As soon as I apply the two newer versions 1.11 (6XET32WW) and 1.13 (6XET34WW), the WWAN device Gobi 2000 isn't listed any more in the device manager and a connection using this device isn't possible any more. The newest Access Connections states that the device isn't found.Applying the setup defaults after updating the BIOS doesn't resolve the problem. Searching the internet shows, that multiple people are struggling with this problem. As soon as I roll back to the 1.10a (6XET31WW) BIOS version, the problem doesn't exist any more. System details:* Thinkpad Model: 2876-27G* all newest thinkpad/thinkvantage packages installed* all currently available windows updates installed* Working BIOS: 1.10a (6XET31WW)* Problem causing BIOS: 1.11 (6XET32WW) and 1.13 (6XET34WW) Regards,rotorhead

Answer:X100e BIOS Problems with WWAN Device Gobi 2000

Hello rotorhead, welcome to Lenovo forums!

Please try this:

1. In BIOS under "Security" / "IO Port Access" disable the devices "WiMAX" and "Wireless WAN" 2. Reboot 3. Shut down the machine completely. 4. Go into BIOS and enable "WiMAX" and "Wireless WAN"

If that doesn´t work please uninstall WWAN-driver, Access Connection und Hot key driver, then install first the hotkey driver, AC and WWAN driver.

I have Thinkpad Edge E431 which has two PCI Express card slot of different form factor. The first one being PCI Express Mini Card slot occupied by Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 and the second slot is PCI Express M.2 Card slot for SSDs/WWAN card. I have been searching WWAN Card with PCI Express M.2 form factor but unable to find one in my locality. However, there are vendors in my locality selling WWAN card which is compatible with PCI Express Mini Card slot.My question being, is it possible to remove the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 and replace it with WWAN card. I have USB wireless LAN card so I don't bother removing the internal wireless card. The laptops comes with WWAN antenna. It also has SIM Card slot underneath the battery.I have modded the BIOS so there shouldn't be any problem of laptop rejecting the card. Thanks in advance and any help would be really appriciated.  RegardsKemun

The WWAN (Gobi 2000 card) in my X100e won't connect if the card stays enabled (FN-F5) during a system boot or resume from standby.  If I leave it disabled during a reboot or standby/resume and enable it afterwards, everything seems to work fine. I'm using HSPA and I'm in an area with good signal.  The signal strength fades in/out every few seconds according to the Windows Broadband icon when it isn't working.  The signal stays solid and there are no issues if I boot the system with the card disabled initially. I'm running the latest bios (1.23) and the ThinkVantage tools have updated all the software on Windows 7 Professional.  I've loaded the BIOS defaults a few times now and Lenovo wants the unit back to replace the Gobi 2000 card. The X100e is a recent purchase from Lenovo Canada and it was ordered with the Gobi 2000 card.  Access Connections (AC) wants me to activate on Verizon (not available in Canada), but it does seem to work with a HSPA sim from a Canadian carrier... but AC always prompts to tell me that I'm roaming.  I'd like to get that fixed too. Has anyone experienced this problem?  Any suggestions?  I think it's a s/w problem but I'll ship it back to Lenovo as per their tech support. Thanks...

Answer:X100e WWAN Gobi 2000 Fails if Enabled During Boot/Resume

The X100e is now headed back to Lenovo for EasyServ warranty repair. An identical unit we bought does not exhibit this behavior at all so I'm inclined to believe it's a hardware problem.  The Lenovo phone tech's recommendation to send it in to get the Gobi 2000 card replaced appears to be correct.

We received 2 brand new X1 Carbon (type 20A7) models and neither have been able to detect the Gobi 5000 WWAN card (Sierra Wireless EM7355, Lenovo Part# 0C52902.)  The X1 Carbon's are running the latest drivers (including BIOS update), Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1- it doesn't matter: They will not detect the WWAN card in the WWAN slot. Tried 2 different WWAN cards straight out of the box from Lenovo (these happen to be the Verizon variants, I don't have any AT&T ones handy) and it's like it doesn't even exist. Yet I can remove either Gobi 5000 card and install it into a T440s and it comes up without any issue. I've tried taking a working and activated Gobi 5000 card out of a T440s and putting it into the X1 Carbon, yet the X1 Carbon refuses to recognize the device exists in Device Manager. I spent about an hour on the phone with Lenovo tech support who ultimately told me my question was "Out of scope" and something they would not handle. The tech even agreed with my frustration that it's listed right on the **bleep** Lenovo product site: "Mobil [sic] Broadband: Sierra Wireless 7355 - Gobi 5000" and couldn't explain why A) It wasn't working orB) Why Lenovo feels a feature listed on their own marketing materials was "out of scope" for support. She also confirmed the part number is exactly the same and the T440s and the X1 Carbon use the identical part. The tech ultimately speculated that some type of magical "system board upgrade"... Jim, I hope you have this working by now, but if not you should know the Lenovo have released Windows 7 Qualcomm BETA drivers, which (at least for my W500) seems to be working fine. You'll find the Win 7 BETA page here and the Qualcomm beta drivers here (ThinkPad UNDP Wireless WAN Driver) I had to uninstall the drivers I had installed from Vista, and then install these. After that , since I have a Ericsson F3507g, I also had to install the Ericsson drivers as well - don't know if this is relevant for yoy. I have this running on Lenovo W500 installed with Win 7 x64 build 7100 and build 7232. Hope this helps,Zorroson

Hello everyone, I'm facing a problem with the Thinkpad E130 and the integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355 Gobi 3000 broadband modem. I can't use them with my SIM cards. No connection is established. I'm sure that a modem is integrated since it was specifcally ordered with it and it shows up in the device manager. What I ruled out:- Hardware defect: There is a second Thinkpad E130 with the same setup, where it doesn't work either.- Service provider problem: Tried two SIM cards from two different service providers.- SIM card problem: SIM cards work in mobile 3G router. What I did:- Shut down the notebook- Put a sim card in the slot in the back of the laptop, behind the battery.- Reboot the notebook and start the Thinkvantage Access Connections software.- The sim card usually does get detected and a suitable profile is shown automatically.- Nonethless I created a profile myself. More exactly two profiles for the two service providers. The data for the APN, etc. is gathered either from the internet or from a second software I use.- I try to connect with the profile which is automatically shown and the self-created profiles.- It tries for several minutes but then quits with an error message: 'Unable to connect to network at this time due to out of coverage or Your SIM-card may not be activated. Please see Lenovo Mobile Broadband Actviation or contact your mobile operator. Do you want to sign up now?' - I tried to connect with a second software called MWconn, which ... Read more

Hi all, I've just bought a new ThinkPad W510 equipped with the Mobile BroadBand Option: Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB Mobile Broadband Device 9205. I've installed from scratch Windows 7 Ultimate - 64bit as the Operating System and then I've updated every specific driver using the Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update v.4.0 utility. So, in Network and Sharing Center, I've a new running Mobile BroadBand Connection labeled as Verizon Wireless and then it comes my problem. I'm writing from ITALY and in my country there is NO Verizon Roaming Connection available. I'm also using a pre-paid contract SIM card with Vodafone IT provider, inserted in the correct back-battery SIM-slot. Is there a way to configure the Gobi 9205 device to work correctly with Vodafone provider? I've just searched a lot on google without results. The only suggestions derive from this web page: CLICK HERE But it seems to be a specific GobiLoader for Gobi 9201/9202 device and not for mine 9205. I've tried to launch the loader.exe but it seems that the file and some specific informations about the firmware/driver mismatch from the two versions. So, is there any official Lenovo way to use Mobile Connection with Vodafone provider? Thank you all in advance!

Answer:ThinkPad W510 and Qualcomm Gobi 2000 9205

Hi guys, after a research inside the driver unpackaged folder I've found a Readme doc file. I've found the way to install another firmware for Gobi 2000 9205 with specific provider informations. After a complete uninstall of Qualcomm Gobi 2000 drivers, at the command prompt, in the folder with the unpackaged driver, I need to enter this string: Setup.exe /i /l DEFAULTIMAGE=0 GPS=1 WIN7DRIVER=1 LOCATIONDRIVER=1 where the "DEFAULTIMAGE=0" substring indicates the provider to use.It seems that installation process completes fine, I can find inside the "C:/Program Data/QUALCOMM/" folder, a log file which indicates that the firmware loaded is the one from the "0" folder, where "0" means Vodafone. These are the informations about the folder with the corresponding firmware I've found on google: Vodafone 0Verizon 1AT&T 2Sprint 3T-Mobile 4Generic UMTS (North America) 5Generic UMTS (Europe) 6Telefonica 7TIM 8Orange 9Telstra 10 But the problem is not solved. Despite the Vodafone information has been clearly written inside the log file, in my Network and Sharing Center there is always "Verizon Wireless" as WWAN network connection :-( How can I solve this problem? Why is the Verizon provider persistent even if I've installed the driver with the "0" (Vodafone) default image? Where am I wrong?I'm an IBM of Italy employee and I need a working WWAN connection with Vodafone provider ASAP. Thank you in advance!

Hi, I have installed new win 8 on my T410s and I cant find the driver for the gobi 2000. can you direct me? thanks Doron

Answer:gobi 2000 driver for windows 8 - thinkpad t410s

Hi, doronei

I cannot find any Windows 8 drivers for your system on Lenovo's website. Drivers are sometimes compatible with different versions of operating systems than those listed, so I would try the drivers here and see if it helps. You will likely need the driver for activation of the card and the driver itself, so make sure you get both of them. If it does not help, then you will be able to uninstall it from Device Manager.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hello mate, if you don't have the sim card slot, it will be hard to upgrade. You will need te modem, an antenna, the sim card reader and change the plastic part for one with the slot.

Hi, Can anybody confirm if this modem should work with an S430? http://www.ebay.com/itm/251193670010 If not, which one? Thanks!

If I helped you, please give me some kudos! ^^

Answer:ThinkPad Edge S430 WWAN: Ericsson F3507G?

Hey there CharlyAR,

Looking over some different specs and resources I found that specific modem you were looking may have been found on some models, like SL300, W500,T400, X200. It is important to note that some BIOS versions have whitelist restrictions of WWAN cards may work with the machine. Currently, the following two cards are compatible with S430.

According to the PSRef for the S430, it was offered with the option for the following WWAN card:

Wireless WAN, Ericsson H5321gw Mobile Broadband Module, PCIe Half Mini Card, GPRS/WCDMA/HSPA/HSPA+, ...

An additional option for you may be the ThinkPad GOBI 3000 PCI-e WWAN card, Lenovo Part Number 60Y3257.

Both of these options should work and be compatble with your S430. Good Luck and hope this helps you.

There are many issues known with the Gobi 2000, but now I am at a point where the solutions found in the internet do not help me any further:- drivers are installed, device shows in the device manager, firmware is set to vodafon- I just don't know how to turn on the 3G-card, it neither does not show in the connection manager (CTRL-F5) nor can it be turned on with other software Does anyone know how to solve this issue? ThanksS

I ve bought thinkpade edge 13 (0221RY6) and formated my hdd (was trying to install win XP). But now i am ready to switch on Windows seven and i am very sorry that i ve formated my HDD with pre installed windows 7.Somebody who has same machine PLS Can u give me your copy of recovery usb or link on it! Or any other help.THANKS!

Answer:I have lost my Recovery HDD with pre installed windows 7 on ThinkPad Edge 13 edge PLS Need HElp!

This is why one should burn recovery media before fiddling with the HD.

One option would be to download a legal Windows 7 ISO and install it.  Or borrow one.  You can use the product key on the bottom of your machine (or in the battery compartment) to activate the installation.  You may have to use the phone option to activate.

Working Legal Windows 7 Download Links

To do this you must install the same version of Windows that came on your machine - but it can be either 32 or 64 bit.

Your machine came with Win7 Home Basic 32.  I can't say for certain that these "all version" ISOs include that version, but you can try and see.

Once you have Windows installed, go to the Lenovo support page and enter your machine type.  That will take you to a list of drivers and apps to download.  Expand the ThinkVantage option and install ThinkVantage System Update.  You can then run it and it will download and install the other software automatically.

I'm basing this on what I see on the US pages.  Yours may be different.

Good luck,
Z.

Hi, this is my first post to the Lenovo forums. I have a ThinkPad T510 that has a Qualcomm Gobi 2000 WWAN card installed. I'm wondering how I would go about obtaining a SIM card for my laptop. Can it be used with any service? (E.G. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon) Would the laptop be capable of running GPS Navigation? Would/could the laptop be assigned a phone number? I'm very new to the idea of WWAN on a laptop, so bear with me! I may ask some silly questions...

Hi I believe my W510 (4389-2SU) has a Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband card installed but I can't tell for your sure. It's not showing up in the device manager list. I've run the Gobi 2000 driver installer and also installed Access Connections. I use ATT so I ran the Gobi coniguration utility to use the ATT image (2) which it seemed to do with no errors. I also updated the Gobi based code as suggested on the driver downloads site How can I tell whether the Gobi card is installed without opening the machine up? Thanks Mark

Answer:Checking for presence of Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband Card

Hello mate, You don't have a WWAN modem in your machine. The 4329-2SU has just a WWAN option.

Answer:X120e Gobi 2000 v Gobi 3000

Hello,

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here.  From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

Hello all I am about to buy and install a WWAN card to a new 11" Edge and have two questions: (1) I have seen the following Part #'s for the WWAN card implying it is the same card: 60Y3263 - 60Y3183 - 78Y1398 - 78Y1399 (2) Will the 60Y3263 - 60Y3183 - 78Y1398 - 78Y1399 card work for a "3" SIM in the UK? Thanks Ray

Answer:Edge 11" - WWAN Card - UK Network - Advice please

Hello mate, All these card are the WWAN modem Gobi 2000 but there are differents.60Y3183 is a modem unlocked but its an old reference the new one available is 78Y1399.78Y1398 is lock for AT&T and 60Y3263 is lock as well. If you are with 3 you need a modem unlocked.

I'm looking at the Edge 11 Intel with "Gobi 2000 3G with GPS" (NVY5EUK). How do I deploy this in the UK? Do I simply get a SIM card from my mobile supplier (probably Vodafone in my case), open up the laptop and slot ithe SIM in beside the Gobi card, and configure? I presume the SIM is the same that I would get if I were obliged to receive a dongle as well, and would simply put the same SIM card in either the dongle (if my laptop had no Gobi card), or in the SIM slot in a laptop with Gobi card. Can I get "mobile Internet" from any of the major UK service providers, and use their SIM in the laptop with the Gobi? Any reason to prefer the dongle approach to the built-in option? Thanks for any help or experiences.

Answer:WWAN card built into UK Edge 11 - how to use? Is it universal?

You can use access connection, the SW provided by lenovo that manages all the network connectivity, which usually configures the right apn automagically Starting from win 7 you can use the integrated windows sw (usually you have to manually set just the apn) You can use also the sw provided by vodafone which does all automagically but (obviously) is meant only for vodafone connections . Usually I'm using the option two, because is the lightest solution. The only reason to prefer an external dongle is to share it between 2 or more PC, other than that the internal solution is better, no risk to break the usb connector or the dongle, GOBI 2000 is very nice and stable, is multistandard, and has an integrated GPS receiver.

Hello there,I recently purchased a Lenovo w510 without a integrated broadband modem. (Gobi 2000 - Mini PCI express card)I notice that the slot for a simcard is present in the laptop, and am now wondering what it would take for me to install this product myself. Has anyone had any experience/success with this? The product description is here: http://www.qualcomm.com/common/documents/analyst/Gobi_2000_ProductSheet.pdf So it's a Mini PCI express that we're dealing with. The basic installation method is here: http://pc-level.com/2009/02/installing-wireless-card-on-laptop/ (also I've just noticed that the procedure is well documented in the user manual): //start menu/help and support/lenovo access help/replacing devices But I'm wondering if anyone else has made this upgrade post-sale and had success/challenges. Thanks, SBK

Answer:Installing a GOBI 2000 (post-sale upgrade) - Mini PCI express card

I think you can, provided that you obtain a Gobi 2000 card with Lenovo FRU. A generic Gobi 2000 card or a Gobi 2000 card from another vendor will not work in your W510 without BIOS modding.

Hi! I have a T430 2347CTO. The notebook has an Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, 11bgn, 11ac) adapter installed. 1. The WLAN adapter is causing problems and I'd like to replace it, but I'm not sure what I should install instead. Any tips? 2. I'd like to install a WWAN adapter, but I'm not sure if my model has the required antenna installed. Does anybody know if it has?

Answer:Thinkpad T430 - replace WLAN card and add WWAN card

I confirmed that this WLAN card will work: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-wifi-Card-for-Lenovo-Thinkpad-X230-T430-60Y...

And I also confirmed this WWAN card will work: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Gobi3000-3G-WWAN-Card-60Y3257-for-Thinkpad-X220-X230-T420-T430-W520-W530/22...

The WLAN card is N wireless; and the WWAN card is 3G.  The ones I linked to are shipping from the US and the best price I could find.

Hope that helps!

Can anyone tell me how to verify if my T500 actually has a WWAN card?ThinkVatage toolbox pops up with a message saying "A wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) card is installed in your system. Please run Lenovo Broadband Connect to activate your card.", but when I do this the tool uses a long time initializing and then says "No Wireless Mobile Broadband device found.". Could this be caused by missing drivers, and if yes - what drivers would these be? According to the webshop where I bought it the model (NK19BMN) is supposed to have a WWAN-card, but I suppose that could be incorrect.

If your laptop model isn't CTO follow the link below and type in Machine-Type-Model (MTM) within Quick Path field:http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/default.pageIf short description of your laptop specification includes "WWAN" statement wwan card SHOULD be factory preinstalled. "WWAN option" isn't the same, it means laptop is WWAN ready, i.e.has built in wwan antennas and sim card holder only, but not the card itself.Follow this link:http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.pageType in your laptop serial number and find out WWAN card model if it was preinstalled into your laptop. You might find out something like the strings below depending of your area:04W3785 - Gobi300004W3786 - H5321gw04W3788 - MC770004W3791 - MC775004W3792 - MC770004W3821 - Sierra MC771060Y3257 - Gobi3 WWAN60Y3267 - F5521 Mal60Y3297 - H5321w

These are Lenovo approved wwan cards p/ns (FRU) for x230 and their short descriptions
Post here your results, we'll see what to do further.

Yes, its a radio device so needs to certified in the laptop platform.

BoltVanderhuge wrote:

The current Sierra Gobi 3000 and the Ericsson F5521gw cards used by Lenovo are not carrier locked and can be used with many 3G ISPs.  The are other WWAN cards supplied in some parts of Asia which I have never seen, so I can't comment on those ones.

For a variety of reasons, not related to the cards themselves, not all 3G ISPs support BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) conenction to their 3G services, so you still many not be able to use it with any 3G ISP.

Cheers,

Good morning all. I recently installed a GOBI 5000 WWAN card for AT&T into my new Thinkpad T440p. I downloaded the driver package from the appropriate Windows 8.1 matrix and the computer crashed (blue screen DRIVER_POWER_SAVE) and then restarted. The driver appears to have been installed, as the device manager shows the following entry under networking adapters: Sierra Wireless EM7355 Qualcomm GOBI 4G/LTE/HSPA+/EVDO Also, under the networking portion of the Metro style settings page, the AT&T Broadband modem shows up, and with information regarding the IMEI, IMSI, which I forwarded to AT&T, so as far as they are concered my preexisting Data plan is current with the modem's IMEI number.. Still no luck with connecting. There was mention of Lenovo Broadband Mobile Activation Utility which I found elsewhere on Lenovo's but upon lauching the installer, it says that the current card is not supported. Overall, not sure what to do to get this thing connected to Mobile Broadband, also not sure if incomplete driver installation could be the culprit. I am going to call Lenovo support to see what they can do, will update here.

Answer:T440p WWAN connection GOBI 5000

Just got off with Lenovo Tech Support. They mentioned that theThinkPad GOBI 5000 Mobile Broadband - AT&T GOBI 5000 WWAN card, Part number: 0C52886 using Sierra Wireless EM7355 - GOBI 5000 software (ghwp14ww.exe), version 3.4.1308.3909 as of 13 DEC 2013 may not be compatible with Windows 8.1 which is what I am running currently. I will check on when the updated driver package appears with compatibility for Windows 8.1 and post here, they mentioned that it should be pushed via Lenovo System Update, so I guess I will stay tuned.

Answer:wwan card in thinkpad t410 2537-BA2

Hi, tejas08881

From what I can see, the card is not in your system by default, so you would have to procure one. The card for your system is the Gobi 2000 for worldwide use, as shown here in this KnowledgeBase article. The correct part number for it is 60Y3183 and you should be able to give Lenovo India a call at 1-800-3000-9990 to order one if you'd like. Just make sure that the WWAN card is Lenovo-branded, as other cards will not be recognized in the BIOS.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Your laptop doesn't have SIM card slot, so I'd say no, you can't install it. You can buy external, USB dongle?

I have a W510 with the Gobi WWAN chipset running x64 Win7 Enterprise.  Once I install the Gobi WWAN driver, the system has a BSOD within 10 seconds of the install wrapping up.  After a reboot, if I switch off the wireless, I am OK, but once I switch it back on, I will BSOD within a minute.  I am running the latest BIOS as of today.  I am running the latest Gobi drive from the Lenovo site (1.1.90/2.0.6.9).  Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:W510 Gobi WWAN Driver Causing BSOD

Exactly the same behaviour with an identical configuration here. Bluescreen whenever I activate WWAN Devices within 1-300 seconds. Tried bios update and W7 x64 blank-install. Without Simcard the OS remains stable (however tried 3 different sim cards with different carriers). Is there any firmware update for the Gobi chipset? Anyone found out something more specific?

Answer:Ooops- should I have ordered SL400 w/ WWAN card installed?

Sorry, too quick on the ENTER key. Anyway, I just received an SL400 CTO I ordered for my wife for Xmas, but opted out of the WWAN card/ATT30 day  trial.  She never takes a notebook on the road, so I figured I would save $30.  I looked around and found that those cards, such as the built-in "Ericsson F3507g USA" are very expensive and worse yet, even if she never used the service, the GPS unit in the card would have been worth the $30.Oh well, it's a Xmas gift, but maybe later as the market saturates, the price may be more reasonable, but I don't think it will ever be down to $30...

HiThe reason of issue is inappropriate fw loaded to the modem by default. It's fw for Verizon, #1 in the fw images directory structue. So, presently modem is ready to work in the CDMA/EV-DO network Verizon, only. Vodafone network needs fw #0. Most of UMTS networks need fw #6 (Generic). Modem isn't locked, just fw is a cause.Further steps for the fw changing depend on the OS installed, drivers (re)installation capabilities, external media with LiveCD etc.

Hi,I am trying to run a DVB-T miniPCIe Card in my X100e. It generates the 1804 error, but actually it is no WWAN card. Is there a way to avoid this error from happening other than to remove the card?

Answer:x100e Boot error 1804 - but no WWAN card installed!

Nope, you need to remove the unathorized card.

Lenovo only allows specific devices in the WLAN/WWAN slots. Anything other than those devices will generate a 1802/1804 error.
Also, FYI, some other these deives are specific to Lenovo, so putting a generic Intel WiFi card in the system will do the same thing.  Make sure that use the Lenovo component.  You can check out the Hardware Maintenance Manual for allowed devices http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-74252

I have a T400 with the built in Qualcomm Gobi card that was originally sold as Verizon only.  I have ATT and didn't want to switch so I was using an external card. I noticed that the latest version of the Lenovo driver said that it added ATT support.  I figured I would give it a shot. It took a lot of installing and uninstalling but I got it to the point where it would see the tower and try to get an IP address.  I had to go into the network properties of the Qualcomm card and enable IPv4 networking to get it to work.Just posting in case this helps someone else!Getting 1.81 Mb/S down and 1.23 Mb/S up with a 161 Ping but I only have a 48% 83dbm signal

Hi, I have a ThinkPad Edge 15" 0301-6KG , Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit , I installed the driver for every part my model has (including network controllers like Wireless or Wired LAN, Bluetooth) . But Device Manager says a network controller is not installed. I don't know what is that, to download and install it's driver. On the drivers download page on Lenovo Support, the only network thing I haven't installed is WiMax which my model has not. Thanks in advance.

Answer:ThinkPad Edge 15, some Network Controller is not installed.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

You could have mistakenly installed wrong LAN/WLAN drivers. Verify the ones you installed are these:-

LAN: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-75113
WLAN: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-73611

Also, install Hotkey Features, press Fn-F5 to enable both Wifi and Bluetooth, thereafter check if the Network Controller goes away from the Device Manager.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I'm trying to buy the GOBI 2000 WWAN Card (Part# 60Y3183/78Y1399) for my Thinkpad T410 (model # 2516CTO), one of my friend in US is helping me get it, unfortunatley Lenovo has discontinued selling the product, I would have to purchase it through Amazon or other sellers.I was told that no other WWAN modules will be compatible with T410 other thank the GOBI 2000, so guessing it is my only choice. I currently use Reliance Net Connect with USB, and started feeling that it adds unnecessary complication when moving around.Hence I'm planning for this upgrade. My real question is, will this card work in India with a carrier like Vodafone or Reliance? If it works does any of you have experience using it, how the speeds are, and is it worth the $100 odd that I would shell out of my pocket? Any answers would definitely help me in making a purchase decision, so please let me know. regards, Raju

Hi, I would like to install windows XP on the 44gb partition I made, and have a dual boot system. But I am having trouble installing Windows XP (SP2). At first, I just got a blue screen after the disk attempted loading files. Then, I slipstreamed the SATA driver for XP for the EDGE 15 onto the XP installation Disk (There were three .inf files in the driver folder, I only slipstreamed the first one in the "{app}" folder). This seemed to get me past the problem. I was able to format the 44GB partition the disk began installing. Then the computer restarted to finish the installation. However, during the XP installation, I got a hang up at 33mins. After repeated tries, I get this hang up every time. I tried disabling as many unnecessary devices in the Bios as I could, but I still get the same hang up. I tried to find the problem by opening the command prompt and typing setupapi.log (in D:\Windows, it wouldn't let me get into C: or F: (the 44gb partition)) However, the last entry in the log was "completed successfully". (The guide I followed using "setupapi.log" was for the 34 min hang up. Since mine is 33min maybe its a completely different problem). Should I try to slipstream all the drivers onto XP installation disk? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Answer:Install XP on 44GB partition of Thinkpad Edge 15 (windows 7 pre-installed)

Try setting SATA to Compatibility mode in BIOS. This should let you install it without needing to slipstream the SATA driver.

After installing XP, install the Rapid Storage Technology driver, enable AHCI in BIOS, and reboot into XP for maximum performance.

Upgrade WAN to 'AC' on ThinkPad Edge 520 from 'N' . Which wireless cards would be correct to use in this model?

Answer:Can we upgrade WAN card to AC on ThinkPad Edge 520

Good day and welcome to the community.

Please have a look at your hardware manual: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/e520_e525_hmm_en_0a60536_05.pdf
Starting on manual page 103, you'll see the parts listing. Item #17 is the WLAN card and manual pages 113-114 show which FRUs will work without the 1802 BIOS boot-time error. If you look for one of these cards, be sure that it is a genuine FRU part. Generic equivalents will throw the error. There are no AC cards listed.

Hope this helps to clarify.
Regards.

I just picked up an Edge 14 and had to reset it from Windows 7 x64 to  Windows 7 x32.  All the drivers have picked up except for the wireless driver.   The technical specs list the wireless card as Wireless NIC: ThinkPad 11 b/g/n so in theory it should be this driver: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS000979 but Windows says that the driver is incorrect.  I've checked the BIOS and the wireless card is enabled and F9 also shows that the wireless is enabled.  I've tried the rest of the drivers in the matrix in case I had the wrong one but none of them worked either.  Any ideas?

I have a 5-in-1 card reader in my ThinkPad Edge 13 laptop. I am assuming that I can use Sony's Memory Stick ProDuo card in the card reader. When I insert the memory stick, it is able to read the card, but it very difficult to eject (pull) the memory stick. Hey Giro,

You have  ThinkPad Wireless WAN (UNDP) Driver 1.1.250 and ThinkVantage Access Connections  5.95 for windows 7.  ThinkVantage Access Connection 5.95 for XP and if this is correct I would suggest you uninstall both driver and Access connections. Then load Access Connection and then your driver and see if that resolves the issue.

Hi, everybody. As I can find no help with this particular issure anywhere online I'll try posting here. I got the following 1802 failure message twice today on my ThinkPad (Edge E540) without having done anything to it (I know a lot of people get the message when they try to change the network card): 1802: Unauthorized network car dis plugged in - Power off and remove the network card (8086/08B1/0006/0000).(I'm not quite sure about the last numbers - I had to make a shoddy screenshot with a cell phone) I got the failure message twice (turning the laptop off and on again) and then the laptop started without problems. I checked with both Win 8 diagnostics and the Lenovo Solution Center but the status is: laptop's running just fine. All software is up to date (otherwise I might have been looking for a solution there) and, therefore, I'm clueless. My questions are:1) What can cause this particular problem?2) How can  I prevent it from happening? Is there a solution (an easy-to-follow one for the laywoman)?3) Am I supposed to panic right now? Is the unprovoked appearance of this problem a sign that I should backup the whole machine asap and start looking for a new one (which would leave me pissed as my ThinkPad has been in use for meager 9 months)? I'm grateful for any help, piece of advice or insight that you can give me.

I have a W510 with a Gobi 2000 WWAN card.It has a new SIM card from AT & T that has not yet been activated in the slot.I have all the latest drivers installed. The problem that I am having is that I can not activate the card. In device manager under network adapters the Gobi device is continually appearing and disappearing every few seconds. Is this a fault Gobi card, faulty SIM, drivers or something else?

Answer:Problems with Gobi 2000

Hi Everyone Question to the forum:I've got X201T with Gobi 2000, and an EVDO subsciption.Currently using the USB modem that comes with the subscription, and trying to use the Gobi.I cannot connect to the provider (SMART TELECOM) using Access Connection software from Lenovo. The error I get is "SIM card found. Unable to retrieve IMSI." What am I missing here? CheersNick

Answer:X201T with Gobi 2000

Take out your battery from your tablet. Check behind your tablet to see if there's a simcard inserted in the simcard slot. That may be what's causing you the problem with SIM card found. If it's there, remove it.
