I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: I have lost my Recovery HDD with pre installed windows 7 on ThinkPad Edge 13 edge PLS Need HElp!

This is why one should burn recovery media before fiddling with the HD.

One option would be to download a legal Windows 7 ISO and install it. Or borrow one. You can use the product key on the bottom of your machine (or in the battery compartment) to activate the installation. You may have to use the phone option to activate.

Working Legal Windows 7 Download Links

To do this you must install the same version of Windows that came on your machine - but it can be either 32 or 64 bit.

Your machine came with Win7 Home Basic 32. I can't say for certain that these "all version" ISOs include that version, but you can try and see.

Once you have Windows installed, go to the Lenovo support page and enter your machine type. That will take you to a list of drivers and apps to download. Expand the ThinkVantage option and install ThinkVantage System Update. You can then run it and it will download and install the other software automatically.

I'm basing this on what I see on the US pages. Yours may be different.

Good luck,
Z.

Hi, I would like to install windows XP on the 44gb partition I made, and have a dual boot system. But I am having trouble installing Windows XP (SP2). At first, I just got a blue screen after the disk attempted loading files. Then, I slipstreamed the SATA driver for XP for the EDGE 15 onto the XP installation Disk (There were three .inf files in the driver folder, I only slipstreamed the first one in the "{app}" folder). This seemed to get me past the problem. I was able to format the 44GB partition the disk began installing. Then the computer restarted to finish the installation. However, during the XP installation, I got a hang up at 33mins. After repeated tries, I get this hang up every time. I tried disabling as many unnecessary devices in the Bios as I could, but I still get the same hang up. I tried to find the problem by opening the command prompt and typing setupapi.log (in D:\Windows, it wouldn't let me get into C: or F: (the 44gb partition)) However, the last entry in the log was "completed successfully". (The guide I followed using "setupapi.log" was for the 34 min hang up. Since mine is 33min maybe its a completely different problem). Should I try to slipstream all the drivers onto XP installation disk? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Answer:Install XP on 44GB partition of Thinkpad Edge 15 (windows 7 pre-installed)

Try setting SATA to Compatibility mode in BIOS. This should let you install it without needing to slipstream the SATA driver.

After installing XP, install the Rapid Storage Technology driver, enable AHCI in BIOS, and reboot into XP for maximum performance.

This is worthless. My good ole (quality) laptop gave up after eight hard years of everyday use and travelling. So i bought a Lenovo four months ago, without much knowledge about how OS:s have evolved after Windows XP. The computer itself worked decently for some months, although i'm not a fan of windows 8. downloaded classic shell to get it operative and it worked for a while, then came issues. computer freezed spontaneously, apparently due to "disk usage 100%". and after an update it completely went haywire, couldn't boot. 0xc0000001 or something.  The recovery partition didn't recover anything. I tried all the options, eventually even complete factory reset or whatever it was called. Didn't work. (i have diagnosed the hdd:s and they passed). 0xc0000001. Now is the first time i actually discovered what pre-installed Windows 8 meant in practice. I couldn't just go to the last resort, ie FORMAT C: and clean install OS. for apparent reasons, no DVD with windows. So i ordered this from lenovo. Got recovery disks, 5 of them came. After a lot of tinkering with BIOS i managed to get them to work, or atleast pretend to work. After the long recovery process said it was finished, i rebooted, altered boot order etc. And what do i see now? After a weird long boot up: Blue screen background, and the command prompt. It reads: X:\windows\system32>CALL X:\windows\system32\FIXLETR.CMD What do i have to do to get this working? The retailer is closed on weekend... Read more

Hi, I have a ThinkPad Edge 15" 0301-6KG , Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit , I installed the driver for every part my model has (including network controllers like Wireless or Wired LAN, Bluetooth) . But Device Manager says a network controller is not installed. I don't know what is that, to download and install it's driver. On the drivers download page on Lenovo Support, the only network thing I haven't installed is WiMax which my model has not. Thanks in advance.

Answer:ThinkPad Edge 15, some Network Controller is not installed.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

You could have mistakenly installed wrong LAN/WLAN drivers. Verify the ones you installed are these:-

LAN: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-75113
WLAN: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-73611

Also, install Hotkey Features, press Fn-F5 to enable both Wifi and Bluetooth, thereafter check if the Network Controller goes away from the Device Manager.

Hope this helps.

So... I may have bricked my Thinkpad Edge 15. I tried updating its BIOS via the Lenovo EOL downloaded Windows files, the screen went black, waited a couple of hours for something to happen, and then turned it off. The laptop is now fundamentally dead: when you try to turn it on it just stays there, with a black screen and fans running at full speed. It's a Thinkpad Edge 15, with Product ID 0301J6G. Is there some kind of BIOS Recovery Mode? Read there are different procedures for different models, but cannot find anything on this particular model.

Hello, I just bought an Edge 15 and I'm wondering if backlight bleed is a common problem with it. There are several places around the edge of the display where the backlight discolors the screen. I've attached a picture; note the top edge of the screen especially. Is this normal, or is it worth looking into a repair?  Also, I'm surprised that this model does not appear on Lenovo's website at all. I have only found one review for it, and it seems Best Buy was the only one to sell it. Anyone know about that? EDIT: Apparently my thread was moved to the ThinkPad Edge forum, though I'm pretty sure that this is not a ThinkPad Edge series device (as far as I can tell that series was discontinued and this was not ThinkPad branded). If someone could clarify that would be awesome. Thanks!

I am having a nightmare trying to get my laptop going again after a hdd failure.Fortunately I managed to burn the necessary disks from the recovery partition before the hard drive gave up.However with a new hdd installed and upWindows 7 back on via the recovery disks I have got a limp and useless machine. It appears that the recovery disk doesn't include all the original drivers as the display is using a bog-standard generic driver and some unknown devices show in device manager. My main issue though is Windows Update since reinstall is disabled and I have tried allsorts to get it up and running with no success. I've also tried to update the lenovo toolkit to automatically update the drivers and that will not update either - claiming it needs .Net 4 and .Net 4.5 running to do so. I have tried to install via Microsoft website but .net 4 fails during install and 4.5 wont install without 4. So I cannot update Windows 7 nor the installed Lenovo software. I have tried to manually download drivers from the lenovo site but my Internet is so slow and some of the drivers are so large (200mb+) that most downloads are stalling or timing out before they complete. Any help or ideas please - otherwise its a new laptop purchase for me and it won't be a Lenovo.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E520 Recovery Nightmare

Hi,

I"m surprised that your recovery media didn't install all the original drivers.  It should have AFAIK.

If your recovery media is old enough to pre-date SP1 _and_ youve installed an advanced format drive (most HDDs are these days) that could explain the windows update problem.

In that case, this KB should help: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-7-Knowledge-Base/Windows-Update-Fails-After-Installing-New-Hard-...

Once you get win update running try again to get ThinkVantage System Update installed.  That should get your drivers updated.

I am trying to create recovery discs for my ThinkPad Edge E431. I double click the Q Drive, which is labeled "Lenovo_Recovery."  I follow the prompts, and request to create a disk of Boot Meida and Disck Media.  I then receive an error message stating: Unable to find files for recovery media.  Then I am informed the process has been canceled.  I receive similar error messages when going to the Control Panel and click "Lenovo - Factory Recovery Discs." From reading other forum posts, some have noted that there are problems with the mappings of drives.  My Q Drive partition states it has 2.08 of 14.6 GBs free, so I am more confident there are recover files in there.  For example, I can find the recovery.ini file.  This file however references to an S drive, which I am not sure I have.  install=recimagex.exe /apply /verify Q:\factoryrecovery\Sdrivebackup.wim 1 S:\installsplit=recimagex.exe /apply /verify Q:\factoryrecovery\Sdrivebackup.swm 1 S:\ /ref Q:\factoryrecovery\Sdrivebackup*.swm During the above described Recovery Process - my computer also prompts me asking if I want to open files from the S Drive. I have tried to download and install Lenovo Recovery and Rescue 4.52, but during the install process it states I have insufficeint memory for the install, which is puzzling since I have 169 GBs of free space on my C drive. Any advice of how to create recovery discs would be appreciated - whether they use th... My gf said her lenovo is getting slow so I decided to get her an SSD and do a fresh install of win7 on it. She has 3 DVDs created which I believe believe from the lenovo Rescue and recovery software. They are DVD1) lenovo recovery boot.DVD2) lenovo recovery data1.DVD3) lenovo recovery data2. I swapped in the SSD  and booted with the DVD labeled as "recovery boot" and i enter the lenovo recovery screen with 3 options1) quick restore (grayed out, cant be selected)2) full restore3) rescue files. I chose full restore and select DVD/CD to locate backup , but it didn't find anything. I subsequently put in DVD2 and DVD3 , it didn't find any backup and prompted for a "final C" DVD. At this point I'm thinking GF didn't create her recovery disk properly. I popped in her original HDD and try to create another recovery disk but it says it can only be done once.Do you think she's missing a final C disk? Is there a way to move forward with installing win 7 on her SSD besides recovery DVD from lenovo? Her laptop model is thinkpad edge 0578 , win 7 home edition. she bought it 2 years ago and it's probably out of warranty.

Hello Everybody! This is my first post, and I am very-very sad that I must use Lenovo forums, however I had approximately 20 ThinkPads / IdeaPads in my life ... but never any model with a SLOT LOADING DVD drive (this will be the key problem). I thought this is one of the best technology ever, just pushing into, and do not have to worry that the tray may be broken. My actual Lenovo ThinkPad notebook is: Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E420s 4401-7PG (bought at 15.06.2013) Well, after buying I quickly made a full Recovery.1xboot - CD is enough here (approx. 350MB)3xdata - DVD. For some reason the Factory defaults on HDD was not working properly, because I always had to use a Windows disc for repairing boot partitions automatically. I don't know why unfortunately, but MBR / active / boot / etc... was not proper for some reason.  So I had the second option to do full factory recovery by using the discs I have made previously. After powering up the machine, I have pressed F11. I have chosed to restore from CD/DVD to reset to Factory default. For the first disc it was okay, it did until 1/3 of the whole process, and than ...I was not able to change disc, because EJECT button is not working!!!  I have even tried to push emergency hole button on the bottom ... no results. Nothing. The disc just did not wanted to come out for replacing it to DISC2. I was staring at this beautiful picture:  Because I was during the process, now I do not have ... Read more

I've been having this problem since I upgraded to the creator's update. Sometimes everything works perfectly, but most of the time I have these issues:

Edge won't connect to internet or load anythingI can't close tabs in EdgeThe "Close all tabs" option in edge doesn't work, only closes 1 tabI can only get Edge to close using Task ManagerWindows Store apps like Twitter and Netflix won't connect and also sometimes won't closeI can't check for Windows updates through settings (won't connect again)

The internet works on third party apps that weren't downloaded in the Windows Store, like Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Spotify. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or how I could fix it? Thanks so much!

Hi ineedhelppls. Welcome to the TenForums @ineedhelppls

First thing I would do is run these commands at command prompt(admin). In the following commands do not key in the information in brackets, it is there to tell you what command does.

ipconfig /flushdns (Clear the dns cache)
nbtstat -RR (release and refesh NetBIOS names)
netsh int ip reset (reset ip settings)
netsh winsock reset (Reset Winsock Catalog)

Test.

Then I would disable IPv6. You will notice it can be enabled just as easy.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...nts-in-windows

If you still get issues I would recommend a network reset. You will lose wireless passwords.

Start=>Settings=>Network and Internet=> scroll down to bottom on the right hand side, last option, Network Reset.

Yes, there is an alternative key combination for the Application menu key: SHIFT + F10....This is universal and not specific to the Thinkpad Edge. You might also find ALT+SPACE handy if you need to get to the Minimize/Maximize or Move controls. Move is handy if an application window is stuck on the second monitor -- use can use ALT+SPACE, M and move the window back with the cursor keys; press ENTER to confirm the window placement.

Hi there, My sound isn't working, instead, on the volume control icon there is a red cross and it's telling me that no audio output device has been installed.  I removed the dolby and conexant sotfware from my laptop using the device manager, but the dolby advanced audio app is still on my control panel. In my device manager, under the 'sound, video and game controllers' tab, the only option I have is Intel(R) Display Audio. Please could someone tell me how to get my sound back!

hello, i am frustrating currently. i bought an edge 13 without OS and i installed windows xp sp3 via usb stick (SATA set to Compatibility in BIOS). That went fine but after that i dont know absolutely what drivers to install for chipset etc. cause the laptop has no drivers with it. I know there are drivers sites on ibm.com and on lenovo site, but first of all, if i filter to edge 13 and windows xp, i also see many windows 7 drivers and other edge laptops... and then, i think its very confusing to find a general chipset driver for example. In the past you had a mainboard driver cd and you install just everythin and updating whatever you want after. i installed the thinkpad system update where i got many drivers installed, but e.g. still i hadnt graphics drivers, i tried so many from sites and one general AMD Graphic driver finally brought me the correct resolition for example. Now, everythin is running in general but i think it was not the best way to install and i dont know what still is missing etc... i didnt find chipset driver in general and i dont know how to proove if i have everyhthing whats important etc. if i am using everest tool to see system information i see at cpu "unknown" but underneath at multi cpu is see the amd processor. Can anybody tell me exactly what drivers i have to install with that thinkpad and windows xp? or is windows xp not supported for it? Thanks!

Has anyone upgraded the OS of Edge 13 to Windows 7 Ultimate?  My new edge 13 is on the way and I am thinking of upgrading the OS to Ultimate.  Will this upgrade slow down the machine in any way?  I have a spare key for Windows 7 Ultimate. I want to upgrade because I need to use the language pack and I'd love networking functionality of Ultimate.

Let there be light!

Answer:Windows 7 Ultimate on Thinkpad Edge 13

I guess no one has put ultimate on, huh?

I have licenses for home, professional and ultimate and I've run them all on all my older thinkpads and the WEI has stayed the same through all versions.  I can't tell any difference between any of the versions speedwise.  My older machines have slower processors so any slowdown would have been very noticeable.

When you get your machine, make sure that you burn recovery discs so you can put it back to factory specs if you have to.

You do know that to upgrade to ultimate all you have to do is go into control panel, system, and at the bottom just change the key.  Then when you reboot you will have ultimate.  You don't have to actually install ultimate.   Changing the key unlocks the ultimate features.  It won't change the restore and recovery partition though, so if you ever have to do a restore to specs from the F11 key it will restore it back to home.

When I tried to update win8.1 updates KB3000850, it failed via auto-update or installation. Follow the Microsoft guide to restart laptop into safe mode, installation failed also. Then I chose safe mode with minimum way to restart laptop. Then laptop halted down at Lenovo logo.At first, I thought bios is modified by windows8.1(x64) and it can't load any hard disk to boot. With a couple of days test, I found a way to flash BIOS at very beginning of laptop boot. BIOS can be updated. But there is still no startup option to set boot sequence. My laptop is still halted down at Lenovo logo, same as BIOS update. I can only access bios by keeping real clock error which I generated by clearing BIOS.if no real clock error, i can't access bios. Hi everyone,About a year and a half ago I bought a ThinkPad Edge E430 and its been working fine, until last week when I got a terrible virus which really corrupted my computer. I've managed to remove the malware, but as a result the registry is still damaged. I cannot change folder options, my start menu is blank, all my files have been moved to a TEMP file among all these other issues. I've run multiple malware scanners and registry repair programs but these issues aren't resolving. So I'm thinking that I'll need to just reinstall windows 7, to completely repair the registry and ensure everything is back to normal. I've backed up all my files, but my concern is about the reinstallation itself. How could I do this when Windows 7 came preloaded onto the laptop, so I don't have the installation disk. And would the product key for windows 7 (found under the battery) definitely work a second time around?

Answer:Windows 7 reinstallation - ThinkPad Edge E430

Hi Cosmos29,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

We understood that your query is about reinstalling the Windows 7 OS on ThinkPad Edge E430.
When your computer is working normally, press the blue ThinkVantage button to launch the SimpleTap Program (for Windows 7) or the ThinkVantage Productivity Center program (for Windows XP and WindowsVista).

Note:
Depending on the date when your computer was manufactured, your computer might have the
Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox program preinstalled instead of the Simple Tap program or the ThinkVantage Productivity Centre program.

You also can use the ThinkVantage button to interrupt the start-up sequence of your computer and start the Rescue and Recovery workspace, which runs independently of the Windows operating system and is hidden from it. If the Windows operating system is not running properly, the Rescue and Recovery workspace can help you do the following:

? Get the current system information.
? Rescue a file from your Windows environment or restore back-up files, provided you have made backups
by use of the Rescue and Recovery program.
? Configure your computer or start the ThinkPad Setup.
To access the Rescue and Recovery workspace, turn on the computer; then, while the ?To interrupt normal start-up, press the blue ThinkVantage button? message is displayed at the lower-left of the screen, press the ThinkVantage button. The Rescue and Recovery screen opens. For additional information, see ?Us... Read more

My laptop was on and suddenly started shutting down all programs, logged off and started a reboot. Then a blue screen full of text appeared saying it will attempt to fix the problem and if I see this screen several times I should take the following steps... - unfortunately every time I see it, I only have about 3 seconds before it goes to another screen! The next black and white screen gives me 2 options: 1. attempt to fix the problem (recommended) and 2. start windows normallyI tried bnoth options and they both dont work.An attempt to fix the problem takes a long time when I guess they're scanning the comp to find what might be wrong. Then I'm told I should disconnect anything I might have plugged in and try again (nothing was plugged in) - then it tells me it's probably caused by new software installed (nothing was installed for months). What to do? It suggests factory reset but I'm not backed up.This is what the recovery report says:Ok, here's what it says:Startup RepairLast successsful boot time: 7/13/2012Number of repair attempts: 5Session details:System disk = \Device\Harddisk0Windows directory = D:\WindowsAutoChk Run = 0Number of root causes: 1Test performed:Name: System disk testResult: Completed successfully. After using Windows 7 on my E530 for the last 6 months, I finally plucked up the courage and moved back to Windows 8 but none of my USB 3 ports work as they did in Windows 7.  My external HD was getting 130MB/sec read/write under 7 but only get around 30MB/sec under 8. I know there was a BIOS limitation which supposedly was addressed in the latest update but it's performing exactly the same.  When is this going to be addressed fully?

Hi,I have a new laptop Lenovo TP Edge E420s with preloaded Windows 7 x64. Something strange started to happen, during normal work it just resets itself and loads System Repair to correct errors, after it's done and I click OK it reboots and the same story repeats all over again ---> System Repair, OK, reboot, System Repair and again and again and again ...After I've seen where this is going, I used Recovery DVD which I've created on first boot to setup the system to it's defaults as it was when I got it.I ask for your help why this is happening and for possible solutions to this problem. Thanks in advance, luky!

Hello, I am having trouble activating Windows on my laptop after a fresh OS reinstall and would appreciate any help you can give.

Specs:
Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 13
Processor: Intel U7300 1.3GHz
System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
RAM: 3 GB
Memory: 138 GB

Backstory:
I bought this laptop from a programmer friend in 2010. He had installed an OEM copy of Windows 7 pro (and there is nothing on the bottom listing the Windows product key). Recently I decided to install a fresh copy of Windows because it was slow and had too much crap on it. I ran Belarc Advisor to obtain the 25-digit Windows product key and other application product keys. I put a Windows install disk on a flash drive and reinstalled Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Problem:
However, when I try to activate Windows using the key that was registered to the device for the last 3 years, it says "The product key you have entered does not appear to be a valid Windows 7 key." I found a live support site for Microsoft problems, but after I explained the issue they tried to sell me another copy of Windows for $399.99 (WTF!). I tried Lenovo's online live support and they said to talk to Microsoft, not them.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to activate Windows using the key I have, or do I have to obtain a new key? If I have to obtain a new key, do I have to reinstall Windows? With an OEM disk? Would I need to buy a Thinkpad OEM disk? What is the cheapest way to resolve this?

Hi, I recently bought some Thinkpad EDGE E430 and E530 for my company. But one of them, at the first boot, instead of showing the first time Windows setup wizard it booted to Windows login with an already defined user named 'obe' and it ask for a password. I can't enter to Windows. I have tried to make 'factory settings' for resintalling Windows but the System Recovery Options always ask me for the password of 'obe' user. I called Lenovo support and the agent told me to use another E430 to produce a recovery DVD, so I made it (because I bought more E430 in the same order), but is the same, always asking for the password. Please see the picture. I need to give the laptop to one of my employees, he is goint to travel this next weekend and he need to take this laptop to the trip.

welcome to the community. press F1 when the first splash screen appears to get into bios. make sure that the cd/dvd drive is listed first in the boot order (or usb cd/dvd, if your machine doesn't have an internal). then put the recovery dvd in the drive and reboot the machine. it should load the recovery process from the dvd, rather than any hdd partition, and allow you to recover/reimage the machine. please post back if this doesn't work or if you have further ?s. cheers.

Hey there mylenovocomp,

In this instance it looks like you will need to get your hands on some recovery media for Windows 7. If you did not make any recovery media (CDs or USB) then the next best thing is to contact Lenovo Technical support and request recovery media. You may have to do a clean install though. To contact the Canada support line call 1-800-565-3344. They will want your serial number, machine type and model number when you call in. Hope this helps.

Hi,

I would like to install windows XP on the 44GB partition I made, and have a dual boot system.
But I am having trouble installing Windows XP (pro w/ SP3 and net framework 3.0, and my sata driver slipstreamed)

At first, I just got a blue screen after the disk attempted loading files. Then, I slipstreamed the SATA driver for XP for the EDGE 15 onto the XP installation Disk (There were three .inf files in the driver folder, I only slipstreamed the first one, and copied the driver folder into the image folder, following this guide: SATA Drivers - Slipstream into Windows XP CD).

I tried to find the problem by opening the command prompt and typing setupapi.log (in D:\Windows (the 44GB partition)
However, the last entry in the log was "completed successfully". (The guide I followed using "setupapi.log" was for the 34 min hang up. Since mine is 33min maybe its a completely different problem).

Should I try to slipstream all the drivers onto XP installation disk? (there appear to be over 100 drivers on the Lenovo support page for the thinkpad edge 15)

Answer:Trying to install Windows xp on partition of Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 15

You really only want the text file for the SATA controller driver, in order to overcome the bluescreen to display the HD partitions for install. Adding other drivers can actually create complications that cause install to fail while installing these drivers, which can be done from the desktop after install anyway.

Have you tried installing your XP programs in Win7 Compatibility Mode,
or virtualizing XP from within Win7 using XP Mode in Ultimate/Pro or freeware like Virtual Box, VMWare, or Virtual Player? These are easier than wrestling with an XPired OS.

I had this problem two times before and in this cases bios update helped. But now, i have newest BIOS version and i can't update BIOS...Simple restore BIOS properities to default didn't work...I have exactly the same problem on Windows 7 Professional 64bit and Ubuntu Linux 10.10 32bit. Any ideas how to fix this or i must use my warranty? I'll be very grateful for any advice! Thinkpad Edge 14 O578KNG

Hello! I want to completely rebuild my Win10 isntallation on my Edge E555, therefore I just wanted to download all necessary drivers from support.lenovo.com but realised there is no chipset driver for Windows 10 x64. Could anybody help me with that issue?

Hello blzb, welcome to the community,

I believe with AMD processors the chipset driver is now included with the graphics driver and it is the graphics driver you should install first when performing a clean installation;

For anybody who wants to update to the latest BIOS released a couple of days ago (gauj10us.exe) and get this error: It's because the setup definition is wrong. You just have to execute with elevated privileges. Right click over the file and select "Run as administrator". Cheers.

I actually have had the same Thinkpad before and managed to install Windows 7 withouth any problems. After booting from usb-stick during installation no harddisk is found. Therefor i insert a second usb-stick with the drivers for AMD AHCI Controller Device Driver for Windows 7 and select the win7 64bit directory. A driver to install is offered but after installing it, it seems as if nothing has happened. No Disk is detected and i can not continue installing. thx for help (by the way, the spell check offered here does not recognize "Lenovo" - *lol*)

Answer:Problem Installing Windows 7 on Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13 665D817

I've seen this happen occasionally when you install via USB. In my experience, it's when a USB 3.0 or eSATA/USB combo port is present. It doesn't happen if you bootstrap it from an existing Windows, nor does it happen when you install from optical media. There's one trick that involves ImageX that you can use to install Windows, but that gets a bit complicated.

I owne a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E545. I came running Windows 7. It caught a virus and became unusable. The box came with Windows 8 Pro (but not Windows 7, for some reason). So I did a clean install. But now, the comptuer has no Wifi! It only looks for a hardwired ethernet cord. It's like Windows 8 Pro doesn't know this laptop has a wireless for internet connectivity! I have exhausted my patience and it has been a very frustrating experience. I would really appreciate some sage advice from more technically adept folks on how to solve this problem. Thank you!!!!

After installing Windows 10 recently I opened the Edge browser and I saw this strange font. When I right clicked to inspect the element it says it should be Arial but it is obviously not. It is the same on Bing and Yahoo search pages as well as some other pages but does not affect all web pages. Google chrome and Firefox browsers are unaffected. As I am new to Windows 10 and Edge I do not know where to look to fix this. Searching the internet has not helped me find an answer. Help would be appreciated. I am HP AMD desktop and had Windows 7 previously.

Hi there, I'm well aware that there are a few of these problems listed for last year but I've tried a lot of what is given as solutions to the problem and I have not yet discovered why mine isn't working.- My camera used to work fineI was using it all the time, every day last year to speak to someone via skype etc. Now that i'm with them I hadn't had any use for it.-It no longer is even recognised by the machine.Lenovo Settings doesn't list a camera options menu, the device manager doesn't even have 'Imaging Devices' listed whatsoever. Here is proof: http://imgur.com/NY0VS0T-What did I do?I possibly deleted something while I was doing a PC clean up of stuff I didn't use (my laptop was starting to run sluggish and some spring cleaning really boosted the speed). This might be my fault but i'm hoping I can un-break it. So my question is this...-What Drivers, Programs & Facilities do I need to download again to make the camera work?I thank everyone so much in advance for their help

I have upgraded my Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E545 to Windows 10 recently and since then I have been having increasing problems to connect to WiFi. It is not a problem with the WiFi itself, since I can connect with my phone and tablet without any problems and my husband has not had any problems with his laptop either. It started with just having to try to connect a couple of times (clicking disconnect and then connect again) in the beginning. Then it took restarting the computer. And now I can't connect anymore no matter how often I try or whatever I try. Initially I got an error message regarding the IP address when using the troubleshoot, but now it just can't find the problem. I have read that it could be a problem with the WiFi driver, which may need an update for Windows 10. The driver listed is Realtek RTL8188E LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC. I have not been able to find this driver or any update for it on the Realtek website. I have not been able to find anything on the Lenovo or Windows website, or anywhere else for that matter, either. I have read posts by other users who are having similar issues, but I haven't been able to find a solution. Please let me know how I can solve this problem. Thank you.

Hi. I just upgraded my notebook (ThinkPad Edge 14", E40) from Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit to Windows 8 Pro 64-bit few days ago. After the upgrade, the touchpad gesture worked (e.g. swipe from right edge shows the charm bar) but the battery didn't charge. I thought it was the problem of battery, so I sent it to service center to check it. (But from the Power Manager program, the charge cycle was less than 50 and very unlikely that the problem was caused by the battery.) Few days later, I got my notebook back (yesterday). Service center said that they can charge the computer with Windows 7 (using their hard disk with Windows 7 on it), so they suggested me to reinstall my system. I then refresh the system using Windows 8 built-in function (which could be found in PC settings/ General/ Refresh computer). After that, the problem was not solved, in addition, the touchpad gesture was gone. (So I wasted my money for nothing... :-( In short, here are the problems with my computer:Battery doesn't charge, even the level dropped to 30% and I have AC power plugged in.Touchpad gesture is gone, even I have installed UltraNav driver through Windows Update.Do anyone experience similar issues? Hi,

I would like to install windows XP on the 44GB partition I made, and have a dual boot system.

I tried to find the problem by opening the command prompt and typing setupapi.log (in D:\Windows, it wouldn't let me get into C: or F: (the 44gb partition))
However, the last entry in the log was "completed successfully". (The guide I followed using "setupapi.log" was for the 34 min hang up. Since mine is 33min maybe its a completely different problem).

Should I try to slipstream all the drivers onto XP installation disk?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Answer:trying to install windows XP on the 44GB partition of Thinkpad Edge 15(pre inst win7)

are you or have you tried using nlite to create the slipstream cd? its a gui app that is wizard based to create slipstream cds. very easy to use.

Hi, I have a ThinkPad Edge 520, type 1143-B5G with a clean disk and I need to install Windows XP on it, for legacy reasons. I have read about the Intel Rapid Store Technology driver being necessary, but this does not seem to apply to the 520, only to 220 and 420. The settings recommended are not available on the 520 (nor is the driver itself), and the driver is listed as N/A for the 520 in the Lenovo list of drivers. But, I still get a BSOD error just as Windows is about to start from the installation DVD, after the DVD has loaded all the drivers it can think of. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Btw - would it be possible to install XP in a separate, primary partition alongside Windows 7, on a disk that already has Windows 7 on it? Or is a clean disk necessary for this? Kind regards,/EvA

Answer:Blue screen when trying to install Windows XP on Intel-based ThinkPad Edge 520

Hello and welcome,

What settings are you looking for?  It sounds like this is a problem with HD operating mode.  Does the E520 BIOS have an option to change the SATA mode to compatibility instead of AHCI?  You won't be able to install a "vanilla" version of XP without adding the appropriate AHCI driver or switching to compatibility mode.

What BIOS version do you have?  I see this rather cryptic reference in the 1.20 BIOS:

" [Problem fixes] Fix an issue of read/write data on SATA compatibility mode."

It is possible to dual-boot XP and '7, but the easiest way to do that is to install XP first, and then let the 7 installer set up the dual-boot configuration.  You would still have the AHCI vs compatibility (IDE) mode problem.

Ah, lookinng a little deeper, there is an AHCI driver for XP in the Lenovo driver matrix.  The readme includes instructions on how to install.

Intel SATA Controller AHCI Driver for Windows
README for Intel SATA Controller AHCI Driver for Windows

Maybe that will get you going.

Hello: First time on the Forum. Edge E220s running Windows 7 Professional. A few weeks ago, the multi-media card slot just stopped being recognized by Windows 7. I insert a card in and - nothing. No light, no whirrs, no clicks, nothing. I have tried several SD cards, all of which worked previously and which still work fine in my camera. They also work when inserted in a stand-alone USB-connected card reader., so the cards themselves don't seem to be the issue. Control Panel/Device Manager shows no yellow exclamation points, It's as if it was just no longer physically connected. I did have an attempt at a battery replacement done at a reputable local shop recently, but don't think the lack of functionality coincided with that repair. I say 'attempt' at battery replacement because there seem to be TWO batteries for this model, and the only one I could find locally (Toronto ) was the wrong one - rectangular, rather than square-ish.  I hope the one coming from China is the right one.  I digress.... Any clues as to where my SD card slot went? Oh yes - the BIOS update (hujj05ww.exe) mentioned in another post, which I thought might fix the SD card slot issue? On a Thinkpad S430 with HD4000 integrated graphics, an external display connected via a HDMI cable is not detected at all when using Windows. The system is fully updated as of the time of posting this message, both via the Lenovo Update tool as well as Windows update. The Intel driver version is 8.15.10.2696. It appears that this is the latest version, since it does not offer an update when I try to auto-update it via Device Manager. NB: I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with kernel 3.4.0 on the same machine, and the external display works perfectly fine with this software configuration. Hence I think that it's very likely that this is a Windows-specific driver issue. Would Lenovo happen to have a driver update in the works? Alternatively, I will be thankful for any suggestions about possible resolution of this problem.

Just purchased 44 E530 each with Intel Centrino N2230 Wireless card.  Windows 7 installed, laptops log into a Windows domain across (Aruba) wireless AP's.  Issue with speed but mainly ability to actually login via Wireless environment.  Scenario - group 30/31 students try to log in to domain using Wireless but only 6/7 will be able to connect.  Others sit at the 'Welcome' screen.  After 5/10 minutes we reboot the laptops that haven't logged in.  Of these a few may log in this time round (allbeit slowly).  Other students reboot again and gradually a few more will be able to log in.  Others will again just sit at 'welcome' screen.  On a good session all users MIGHT be able to log in but it could take over half an hour because of repeated reboots required.  The wireless driver has been updated but this made little or no difference.  I've also set a Windows Group Policy to 'wait on login' as it was thought the issue might be the Thinkpads needing to see the Wireless LAN before the user tried to log in to the Windows domain. If one of the laptops is tested with Ethernet connection then it works as expected, so it is definitely wireless related.  any advise from anyone?

Hello,With my previous Thinkpad X61s I was able to press Fn key and use some alpha keys as a numeric keypad but with my new Thinkpad X1 there is no such feature. I have some applications which do require the use of numeric keypad (note that the keycodes received by the OS are not the same if the normal numeric keys are used). Please, do not suggest to plug an external USB keypad or keyboard, that's, of course, a solution (which I don't like at all). Anyone has some suggestion to overcome this problem somehow? Thanks!Kind regardsBoyan

I am desperately trying to install windows 7 from USB.I need it to dual boot with windows 8.I obtained a windows 7 iso from MSDNAA: (en_windows_7_professional_with_sp1_x64_dvd_u_676939.iso)I made a bootable UEFI USB with rufus on a Sandisk U3 Cruzer (8GB)Now in BIOS I disabled secure boot  but I can't select my USB, I can select it, press enter, the screen flickers but jumps back to the first entry in the boot list. The USB is displayed without "UEFI:" in front.Selecting "legacy" in boot mode works but I can't install windows 7, the setup shows al the partitions but says: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is not of the GPT partition style".That's it, I just can't install windows 7...

Answer:Can't dual boot windows 7 with windows 8 on Thinkpad edge S430

Hi,

I'm not familiar with "rufus".  Here's how I make UEFI-bootable flash drives:  format with a single FAT32 partition.   Use something like 7zip to extract the Windows ISO contents to the flash drive.  That's all.   Boot it in UEFI mode.  You'll have  to disable secure boot and enable CSM support.

You might give that a try.  I'm a little suspicious that UEFI bootability is broken if you can boot in legacy mode.  Maybe the drive is NTFS?  That won't boot in UEFI mode.

Z.

I have a ThinkPad 431 with Windows 7 the BIOS  turned on for always on.I switched on the USB option always on in lenovo utility. Thinkpad has 3 USB ports, two on the left and one on the right. The one on the right works when the thinkpad is in hibernation. The left ones don't. When thinkpad is on, all ports charge. Is this by design or is there a problem with my Thinkpad unit. I really realy need two ports for charging.

Answer:ThinkPad Edge 431 Powered USB charging at only one port when thinkpad is in hibernate

I should mention that I don't have any yellow USB port. Neither the left or the right ones have yellow.

I purchased 4 of these for my company in December 2011 and today have had to arrange for the 3rd one to be returned to Lenovo with the same problem.  The battery stops charging and will not hold charge and will not run unless powered into ac supply. The laptop will then not power on at all, completely dead no lights / sounds etc and when returned the previous 2 they have replaced the motherboard and have had no problems since. Even though have had this problem with 2 of the others Lenovo Technical Support have still said have to return it at my expense which because of the data included on it have had to return special delivery costing £25 a time. They are returned withuin 7 days but think there may be a problem as this is a 75% failure rate. Anybody else had this problem as is putting me off buying anymore?

Since you got the machine In December then this maybe the case, as some batch of these machines were affected by the EEPROM issues.

I have a large number of "Favorites" created on my desktop which is running Windows 10 and Edge as the browser. I would like to have all of those same "Favorites" on my laptop that is also running windows 10 and Edge. How
can I copy the "Favorites" file from my desktop to my laptop so that I don't have to enter one-by-one each site and mark it as a favorite on the laptop?

Hi everyone, I'm wanting to buy a new laptop and currently deciding between this ThinkPad Edge E540 (479 Euros) and this refurbished ThinkPad T420 (299 Euros) I'll be using this almost exclusively for working with audio (music production, DJing, recording & listening to music) and almost nothing else - I run Ableton and Traktor which are quite CPU-heavy so the processor is quite important.Whichever I bought I would be taking the DVD drive out and putting in a SSD for the OS and my programs, and I would also be adding an extra 4GB of RAM.I don't have much money at the moment so the 180 Euros I'd save by buying the refurb would be very appreciated, however I really don't want to compromise the speed/lifespan of my laptop.---So my question is, how much do you think a 3-4 year old T420 (which from what I understand are one of the best laptops ever made) would compare to a brand new Edge E540 in terms of speed, and which do you think would last longer?---Thanks in advance for your input.
