Having problems with my Laptop wifi internet connection

Question: Having problems with my Laptop wifi internet connection

i have 2 PC's & 1 Laptop. we'll call them PC, BC & LT
the problem is with LT.

PC is connected wirelessly. BC is wired to the router. LT is wireless with Atheros AR5004G built in.
i downloaded this http://pcpitstop.com/store/exterminate.asp on the LT. ran the scan and uninstalled it because it didn't remove the spyware.
after that the LT started acting up. i couldn't search for the word spyware, couldn't click the category 'anti-virus & spyware downloads' @ download.com & couldn't do anything with the word spyware, couldn't even install anti-spyware programs downloaded from the other 2 PC's. Everytime I tried, the browsers [IE, CrazyBrowser & Firefox] would close by themselves. Tried to run scans, but the scanners would close automatically also.

so we thought to do a factory restart restoring it from out of box state. finished that. now it doesn't want to connect to the internet. checked PC & BC to see if they were still able to connect. internet shows up fine except for LT. when LT is connected with the Ethernet cable, Internet is fine; webpages show up. but once disconnected, and using the wifi, internet doesn't show up.

The wifi is ON and I have set the settings on it. WiFi does read the router and says it's Excellent with all the bars lit green. but internet still doesn't show up.
It has worked just a couple of hours ago just before installing that program from PC Pitstop. so we did the fatcory restart again thinking we might have missed something, but still Nothing.

I tried using the disc again to install drivers for the Atheros AR5004G.
also tried downloading a driver for it from the internet using the other PC's. That didn't work either.

even though the signal is excellent, i can't even access the router from the LT. accessing router from the 2 PC's is good.

so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Although I am connected to our wireless network on the Folio 13, there is no internet connection. I can, however, connect to the internet via Wifi on two other household laptops, both of them HP, so I believe the problem is with the Folio itself. I can also connect to other computers on the network on the Folio, but something is preventing it from getting on the internet. I can only get the internet via hardwired ethernet connection on the Folio. I have tried the following fixes, multiple times, without success: -Run the Windows troubleshooter for Internet/Network. It says the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken. (But not on other wifi computers here--works fine.)-Reboot/Reset the modem.-Disable/Renable the wifi adapter (Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030)-Update wifi adapter driver (it says driver is up to date)-Uninstall/reinstall wifi adapter-Remove Wifi Network from list of available networks; reboot, add this network back in-Roll back all Windows updates from the past month-Searched self-help forums for a possible solution And yes, the wifi keyboard light is blue, not orange. Can someone help please?

I have previously requested help with this problem, and I thought it solved by the generous help from another member, but it would seem it was only a temporary fix, as it is happening again. I am connecting to my homehub via my laptop wirelessly with the aid of a pluscom usb adapter, I have the latest drivers for this adapter installed, the problem is that every now and then, the connection will drop, only for a very short time, but long enough for windows to have to reestablish a connection and reobtain the IP address from dhcp. This is while the windows wireless zero config is handling the connection, whenever I switch over to pluscoms software, I can't get a connection to the internet, it seems to connect to the homehub although I can't bring up the homehub's settings via my web browser (Mozilla FF) or using IE. My connection used to be stable before these problems started and I was using pluscoms software to manage the connection, this is causing a really annoying problem for me because I am unable to play online games such as red alert 2 because the connection is too unstable.

EDIT
forgot to mention, I am able to connect to the internet on my PS3 without any problems, and i have tested the internet connection on my friends laptop which works no problem as well
EDIT

Any help would be much appreciated

Answer:Wifi Worked But No Internet Connection on My Laptop

Because you had McAfee installed you need to use the special uninstall procedure to remove it completely from your system per the link below.
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS101331

You may have better luck using WPA2 security with AES encryption rather than the outdated, unsecure and slower WEP security. You can change these settings in the routers control panel.

You appear to have a valid IP here so most likely something is blocking or interfering with the connection.

You will also want to disable the Microsoft virtual adaptor by using the following commands at an elevated command prompt, typed or copy/paste them one at a time hitting enter after each one.

Code:
netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

Code:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow

I am using an HP Pavilion dv7 with a Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 network adapter trying to connect to the wifi router on campus from my dorm room. The routers are placed in the common areas, so I do not receive a very strong signal in my room, but it works good enough for my Android phone to connect just fine and have a reasonable speed. My laptop on the other hand, which works fine in the common areas with good signals, at times struggles to get internet. I have episodes where I can connect just fine and receive sufficient speed, but then at other times, I connect to the wifi but I cannot connect to the internet. I click Diagnose on the Wireless Network Connection Status, which runs and claims to find an error which is fixed by resetting the wireless adapter. Rarely does this actually fix the problem though. I am curious as to what could be causing this spotty internet connection with my laptop, when my phone always works just fine. Could it be something with HP's default WLAN manager? I read something about updating to Intel's wifi manager but I could not get the update to work with my Windows 7 64-bit OS. Does anyone have some insight that can make my laptop connect better?

This is soooo depressing.  I bought a brand new HP Envy laptop/notebook six months ago, in July 2015.  It was the most expensive laptop in the shop, but because it was Hewlett Packard and because it had serious processing power compared to the others, I spent the money and expected I would be getting a top-of-the-range product.  It worked pretty well, albeit rather slowly I thought, for about two months.  Then one day, it just seemed to 'forget' that it had a wireless adapter installed.  No wireless connection, no adapter, nothing. So I took it back to the shop and they sent it for repair.  It took 3 weeks.  It had to be factory reset, which means removing everything on it and reinstating it.  That in itself is seriously disruptive to anyone's busy life.  But I gritted my teeth and let it all happen.  It came back and it was working; it seemed to be faster and the wireless connection was uninterrupted. Until today, 3 months after the repair. Today, I wanted to print using wi-fi direct.  So I fiddled about and eventually managed to get my HP laptop talking to my HP printer in another room via wi-fi direct.  Once.  Then it stopped and would not start printing again.  So after a while I gave up on that and went back to do other stuff.  Only to find that the wifi connection was dropping out every few seconds.  Connect, Limited, gone; connect, limited, gone.  Until eventually it jus... Good day,

Due to my coming posting to a place without a wifi connection for my tablet, I decided to turn my laptop into a wifi hotspot.

I googled and found this post:

How to turn your Windows 7 laptop into a wireless hotspot | News | TechRadar

I thought, "Hey, that's cool". So I did everything mentioned there to the letter. It worked, my laptop was able to create its own hotspot, which was well cool. I connected my tablet to the new wifi connection. It did work, but I had no internet connection. So I assume that whatever I did, it disconnected my wireless adapter to created the hotspot. So I thought, that's fine, I'll just use a network cable.

Now here's the real problem.
1) I disconnected the connection, but my wireless network on my laptop told me that I had no internet connection.
2) I checked my tablet and reconnected the tablet to my home wireless network. It worked fine. I'm posting this using my tablet on home wireless.
3) No issue with my laptop nor the hardware, because prior to following the tutorial, my wireless network works just fine.
4) I tried disabling the device in Network & Sharing. No difference.
5) I stopped hostednetwork. No difference.
6) I disallowed hostednetwork. No difference.
7) As a last ditched effort, I turned on the system restore and reverted back to an earlier point. That finally work. My laptop finally has an internet connection again.

So my question is, what actually happened here and if I encounter th... Read more

Answer:No internet connection after I turned my laptop into wifi hotspot

To my knowledge the WiFi adapter work as either a connection point to a WiFi router/Wireless access point or AS a wireless Access Point, WiFi Hot Spot, but not both. So you would need to connect the notebook to a router (internet connection) with a Ethernet cable. Then the computer will take the internet from the Cable and send it out to connected devices.

A couple months ago, I upgraded my cable modem to DOCSIS3.0, and just yesterday upgraded my WiFi router. I also changed the WiFi security settings and went around to all my devices to make sure they were accessing properly.

The weird thing is that all of the network devices were able to connect and work properly except one laptop.

Dell Lattitude D820
Windows XP Home SP3

The wireless network card seems to be working properly in connecting to the network, as I can type in direct (numeric) IP addresses and see the router and modem, but this machine has no Internet connection. Under LAN & Network connections, there is no internet connection listed. So far, I've tried:

Tried to "Add a Connection" - still not showing an internet connection
Updated the Driver for the 1390 wireless card - now matches Dells most current version

Any ideas?

Answer:Upgraded home wifi and now laptop has no internet connection

DOH!
I found the setting.

Under the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) settings, I had "Use the following DNS server" checked.
The DNS server changed with the new router.
I updated the DNS server and things are working again - (I could have also used "Obtain DNS server automatically").

I currently have a desktop that has access to the internet but it also has a wireless card. I was wondering what I can do to make the wireless card share its internet so that my laptop can use it? The desktop is directly connected to the cable modem.

This will be done via Windows XP, so I've been messing around with ICS but I can't get the laptop to detect it. I get the errror that: "An error occured while Internet Connetion Sharing was being enabled. ICS cannot be enabled due to an IP address conflict on the network. ICS requirs ethe host be configured to use 192.168.0.1. Please ensure that no other client on the network is configured to use 192.168.0.1." I can get the wireless card in the desktop to connect to the laptop via ad hoc though.

What security issues should I worry about? There are tons of other wireless users nearby and I only want a certain laptop to be able to see and access the desktop wireless card.

Hi...

I've set up my internet-connected laptop (Acer Aspire One with Windows 7 Starter) as wifi hotspot. The hotspot works to the extent that it lets another computer connect, but it does not provide (pass through) the internet access I have (via 3G USB modem).

While searching the net for useful information I came across the recent thread
No internet connection after I turned my laptop into wifi hotspot

Following up on the two tutorials mentioned in that thread,
Windows 7 Tip of the Week: Use Wireless Hosted Networking to Share An Internet Connection Wirelessly | FAQ/Tip content from Paul Thurrott's SuperSite for Windows
and
Windows 7 Hotspot: Share Wifi With Your Laptop
I noticed that on my laptop the important Share tab is missing that can be seen in the first image in the first tutorial and also in the first image in the section "Changing Adapter Settings" in the secodn tutorial.

The network adapters I can see on my laptop are

Local Area connection
(unplugged)

3G Internet
USB modem

Wireless connection
Atheros AR5B95

Wireless Connection 2
Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

Many thanks in advance for suggestions and probing questions

Answer:internet connection not shared by my laptop turned wifi hotspot

If the sharing tab is missing then it means that the driver isn't up to date. About the only way to fix that is to look for a more recent version of the wireless driver. Just updating or reinstalling the driver might be enough although some adaptors simply can't support this feature as per Paul Thurrott's page on this.

A few days ago I picked up the Internet Security 2010 virus. We have Malwarebytes on the laptop so I did a scan with it and cleaned what it found. I then tried to restart in safe mode and run the scan again but the safe mode went straight to a blue screen that says PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.

I then restarted the laptop in normal mode and now I have no internet connection. I also can't access any firewall modes. Now when I run malwarebytes it comes back clean. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The laptop is a Dell inspiron e1705 and has windows xp. We use AVG free for virus protection. I do have internet access with my desktop.

Update: I can no longer start windows in normal mode or safe mode. Either one takes me to the Blue Screen

I am trying to get a laptop to connect, using broadband, to the internet. This laptop used to be part of a network and the PC Card seems to be still configured for that. I think that may be part of the problem. My desktop uses an ethernet card to connect and there is nothing to configure. It simply finds it. But no matter what I try on the laptop I can't get past the cannot find server error. Is there a way to remove all of the networking configuration? Or do you have any other suggestions?

You will need to use the WEP key. On the lappy right click the monitor icons in the taskbar and select 'view available networks' Select your network and click connect. This should promt you to enter the secure key which is often found on the router lable. Type it in as you see it and then click connect...

First of all I use an Ethernet cable at home. I've been using one for quite a while now without any problems.
Starting from yesterday my connection has been acting very strange. I get fine internet speeds for around 4 minutes at a time, then for 10-30 seconds, my connection is lost before the cycle repeats. And the funny thing is, it's almost always 4 minutes give or take.
When my connection disappears, my taskbar displays nothing wrong with the connection, and everything looks to be normal.

I've made sure that
1. My Wi-Fi connection does work
2. My Modem works on other devices
3. I've tried changing my ethernet cable

I have no clue what's wrong.
Any help appreciated!

Hi there i am having problems keeping the internet connection on my lap top. At the minute i can not get any connection via wifi. I have plugged an ethernet cable in via a tplink extender and the internet is ok until the laptop goes on to standby mode then it loses connection when i log back on and have to restart the laptop to regain connection.
I have been wondering if the wifi card has stopped working but would that interfere with the ethernet connection ?
My laptop is a fujitsu lifebook A series AH531

We have several other devices working of the router, phones, another laptop and an xbox 1 with no problems so i think it is a problem with just my laptop.

Thanks in advance

I have a Dell XPS 1210 laptop purchased in July for my daughter for college. Since she started to use it, there has been intermittent internet access problems. The computer has Windows Vista installed and I have a Linksys wireless network at home. At her college, there is wireless connectivity as well.
I have been on the phone Dell tech support for hours with no resolution. Yesterday they reinstalled all of the main system drivers, thinking that there was a corrupt file.
Again the connectivity is spotty to non-existent. I had heard that Dell and Microsoft both try to control the connection to the internet, and that some sort of conflict may be the root of the problem. Does anyone have an idea as to what the problem may be?

Hi,

After working with no apparent issues for over a year, my wireless internet connection to my Toshiba laptop has begun cutting out frequently (i.e. roughly once every hour). What makes it more frustrating is that every time it disconnects I have to reconnect manually using the troubleshoot feature in the 'Network Sharing Center' (I'm running windows 7). It always reconnects at the first attempt. Below is what is displayed after troubleshooting.

Now I don't think the issue is with my router as I have a PC connected via an ethernet cable to it which is having no connection issues, and my phone also has no issues when accessing the same wireless connection at the same time (when there is an apparent outage). Also, when I switch my router off an on again the connection is re-established automatically without having to use the troubleshoot feature.

If it helps, these are the detection details of the troubleshooting report.

I just inherited a nearly-new laptop that seems to have always had connectivity issues. We thought that the previous owner just had bad wireless, but our current router is brand new and works smoothly with all other computers in the household. It's a Dell Studio 1745 installed with a 64-bit Windows 7 OS. For wireless connection, there's both an Intel(R) Wifi Link 5100 AGN and an external Belkin Basic Wireless USB Adapter. I've been having connectivity issues. Both devices are able to see networks, and you can select to connect to them. But half the time the two of them stay in a cycle of "Identifying" and then disconnecting, or simply won't connect at all when enabled. The other half of the time, one device or another connects to the internet and functions slowly for a minute or two before becoming despondent again, even though the Belkin adapter worked fine on a previous Dell computer we had.

At one point the connecting devices would work for several hours at a time without a problem and reconnect easily when they became faulty (I just switched between one or the other) but now neither one is working for more than a minute or two at a time, and I'm posting this with an Ethernet cable plugged into the side of the laptop.

It's been suggested to me that the wifi card or some of the other internal hardware is "overheating," since earlier it seemed that if I disabled wireless for periods of time, the wifi connection would then ... Read more

I have a Lenovo G505 laptop. I'm not 100% sure if it's a Thinkpad or Ideapad. My problem is that my Wifi internet connection keeps disconnecting or it becomes limited. This usually happens within the first 5 minutes of going online. The way I correct this is I click on my network and click disconnect  and then click reconnect. This usually corrects the problem, But sometimes it happens again during the same session. I've had Verizon out to check on my connection and signal strength. They even replaced the router. There doesn't seem to be any issue with my ISP. My son daughters laptop both work fine with no interuptions and they are on a different floor than the router. After fighting with this for way too long, I figured it out: uninstall AMD Quick Stream. Its AppEx Network Accelerator bit completely destroys the G505's wifi.

Dear all,
I generally have good WiFI connection, but in two rooms so I am running a TP-Link system for Wifi through my powernet, which provides me with WiFI in our working space. No problems here.
I have been noticing that on my laptop, when I sit in the living space, my internet connection is dropping WITHOUT losing connection to the WiFi network. This makes me reset my adapter but mostly without succes. Sometimes it spontaneously regains internet connectivity. This happens at random (to me). My cell phone doesn't have the same problem, nor does my GF's computer.
I notice that when i go back to the workspace (where wifi is distributed through my TP-link), more often then not I instantly regain connection. Which makes me think this is a problem of IP adress that is different when switching from Wifi through router and Wifi through TP-link?

Here is the runout for my ipconfig /all and
Output for 'netsh wlan show all'

Answer:Internet connection randomly dropping through WiFi connection

You need to paste the info to a post, not attach to link. It is not the ipconfig /show all that we need. We need the netsh wlan show all.

I was wondering how to/if I can connect to my friends laptop through wifi and use the internet through his air card. thanks

Answer:wifi to wifi connection and use internet

You can but he has to be connected to the Internet using a 2nd wi fi card or through a LAN cable. He can't use the same card to give YOU internet and to have internet himself.

So, INTERNET > MODEM > WI FI ROUTER > HIS LAPPY VIA LAN CABLE > INTERNET TO YOU FROM HIS WIFI CARD USING ADHOC SETTINGS

To all others - correct me if I'm wrong, please. It's been a while since I did something like that... easy enough to do, though.

I have been having a lot of trouble with my wifi conection for a month or 2 now and ive just about had it. When i am playing a game, mostly world of tanks and wargame red dragon, my wifi will stop for about 30-60 seconds entirely. I check and it still says i am connected, but all programs that use the internet lose connection, not just the game. However, if i am connected to an Ethernet cable i have seamless conection however, being connected to an Ethernet cable is not always an option. I have anitvirus software (norton) and have removed several viruses. I have a dual-band wifi connector thingy built in to my laptop and if i am downloading something i can get upwards of 3 mb/s and when i test my connection i have 9+ mb/s. I can provide more info if needed.

Thanks!

Uninstall and then re-install the drivers first, get the newest driver from the manufacturer's website if possible.

What is the wifi card chipset? Who makes the wifi card? I had a similar problem with a belkin usb wifi adapter when gaming. Some chipsets had packet burst mode which you could try to disable: http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/cs-015402.htm

If you let me know the exact wifi card you have, I may be able to help further. I ended up replacing my belkin card with a wireless g atheros wifi card which solved my problem.

Answer:USB internet connection on WIFI

Hi depakjan,

Glad to help, hope I can help you out. It sounds like you have a USB modem from a wireless provider such as Sprint, Verizon, Alltel, AT&T, or possibly Clear/Clearwire. Is that correct?

This is sometimes possible--depending on what software the wireless company gives you to work with. For instance, I have Clearwire here in Eau Claire, WI, and the Clearwire software actually disables the built-in functionality that Windows has that lets you bind ("bridge") two connections together, such as a USB modem and another connection, like your iPod touch.

Another thing to think about: I just signed up for Verizon mobile broadband Internet so I can have the Internet on the go. I found out something... Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, Alltel, and some other companies as well all limit your monthly usage on the Internet to 5GB. This is usually not a problem for one or two computers/devices connected to the Internet in a month for occasional or sometimes frequent web browsing. However, if you have an iPod touch, laptop, PSP, and more, all connected to that Internet connection, it will use that 5GB up pretty quick. Now, I don't know which company you're going through. If they don't have a limit, then great!!! Congratulations. But most companies are going to put that 5GB cap on your Internet. And, mind you, they seriously don't mind if you go over that 5GB!!! (You'll just have to pay a small fee of anywhere from $51.20 to $102.40 per MB that yo... Read more

Answer:How do you set up a WiFi internet connection

The only thing you need now is a wireless router and an internet connection. You will need to configure the router and hook your internet connection to it. On your laptop, search for your router on the available networks, and connect to it.

A couple weeks ago we experienced a big lightning storm. It cause our power to go out. After it turned back on the networking port (built-in) behind my computer died ( I assume) and so did my router (I think). I've managed to connect my cable modem to my computer via usb, however I can't connect a router now to my computer since the networking port doesn't work. I bought a new linksys cisco wrt110 to replace the dead one I had, and it acts as a stand alone router that's not connected to any pc. Now all my wifi devices can't connect to the router. I have 3 wifi detecting devices that all show the router with strong signal, but after trying to connect to the router all I get on all 3 devices are errors and can't connect. Does the router have to be connected to a pc for other devices to work? If not how can I get my devices to connect. My previous router had the same problem after the lightning storm. It showed strong signal on my devices but all of them had errors upon connecting. Any suggestions out there? Anyone know if there's a way to get the network port behind my pc working again. Or a way to connect my router to my pc. I have no free slots available inside my computer to install another networking card. My networking/internet knowledge is limited so any walkthrough's or step by step tutorials will help.
Thanks

Hi,

First of all sorry, if this is a stupid question and sorry for my crappy english.

Recently I bought internet subcription with my girlfriend. It's from UPC, so all we got is a moden-wifi router hanging out of the wall.

Now I could connect perfectly with my notebook without any issue. I had to type in the password on the back of the modenwifirouterstuff. My laptop is connected to the wifi router and i have internet access.

However, when I connected my girlfriend's laptop, there is no internet access.
It's connected to the router, but there is that little yellow triangle with the ! and says: No internet connection.( meanwhile i'm writing this from the same network on a different laptop)

Her laptop is a Acer ASpire (v5 if I'm not wrong).

Please help so that I can top trying to solve it and have sex.

Answer:Wifi connection problems

Using her pc . .

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then:

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type or copy and paste the following command:

ipconfig/all > 0 & notepad 0

and press enter.

Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

then please Download and run this Xirrus WiFi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

so, this thing has been bugging me for the last two days. I reinstalled windows on one of my computers, and I can't get the wireless lan to work. I see the network name(I use a hidden SSID and WPA encryption) and I connect to the network for just a split second, then it says no connection again... I've tried different names, channels, firmware, drivers, to no avail. The strange(or maybe not) thing is, is that the wifi is working on two of my other computers, so I think the problem lies with this one. I didn't install SP2 yet(I've read about wifi problems because of sp2) and I can't really think of what else to change. I've got a planet wl-u356 usb dongle.

Oh, almost forgot, I tried another usb dongle(netgear wg111v2) and the exact same problem occurs.

Help would be welcome!

Answer:wifi connection problems

Install SP2!

If you are using the Windows builtin utility, try using the adapter maker's program instead and vice versa.

Some (older) adapters have problems with WPA and you just can't use them with it - the only choice would be WEP.

Hi,
I hope someone can help as I have a random problem.

This is a new problem and I am not sure why it has started.

I have been using this laptop on my wireless network for the past 3 years and it has been fine.

My computer losses connection to the network after about 5minutes which it never used to do. I can then see the network and when I try and reconnect it just wont reconnect.

The only way to solve this is going into "Computer Management" and restarting the Wireless Zero Configuration.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot

I installed wp 8.1 on my lumia 920 on AT&T in USA. I was been unable to connect to wifi at home and hotspots at restaurants so I did a phone reset, which erased all data, etc. ( I knew this would happen). Got connected at home and then I went back to the restaurant which I had trouble with and connected, but when I tried at a different restaurant today, phone showed connected but also said below the connection something like "internet not available". So I tried my connection at home and it still works; turned off cell data to make sure.
So it appears wifi is hit or miss for some reason at different locations that I previously had no problems with before the 8.1 update. Do you know why this problem occurs and is there a fix? If so, what is the fix? If this requires an update, when is that coming? I have a friend with a lumia 820 whom I talked into wp so I feel responsible to get this resolved. Have always been a wp fan so please don't let me down, thanks.

Answer:Wifi connection problems with wp 8.1

The restaurant you tried to connect to most likely offers a login hot spot, it will connect but when you open the browser it should auto direct you to a login page. Did you try running a browser when connected to that restaurant's Wi Fi?
Also Wi Fi Sense in Wp 8.1 has the ability to automatically log you into free Wi Fi hotspots using faux data, I haven't tested this myself so I cannot attest to the reliability.

I think it's quite a weird problem : I've a desktop in my house which is connected to the router by LAN and I've a laptop,a smartphone which are connected to the router by WiFi. This morning, when I tried to Google something from my laptop, Firefox showed me -

This not just happened with Google but with any other site and it also happened with my smartphone. But the funny part is that the downloads were just fine with torrent and IDM. Only I couldn't surf the net.

Note : The problem didn't occur with my desktop at all. With my laptop and smartphone, It automatically fixed a few hours later and happened again after a while.

Answer:Connection problems through WiFi

I think that has something to do with your router. Whenever something like that happens to me, I restart my router and all of the other devices. Sometimes it happens to one device that is connected through WiFi, sometimes it happens to multiple. Home routers tend to sometimes go a bit dumb when you're torrenting something on a high speed internet connection, so it should be normal to restart it in that case. Even if it's a pretty old router and you have a pretty good connection and computers, torrenting will also confuse it.
Not knowing what is actually causing it to happen makes it impossible to solve permanently. If you're able to test your connection and do different things to it without having anyone else use it, maybe you can see the cause.

Hi,
I have an ATT Unite card and I have not been able to connect my HP desktop to the internet for several days.  I'm not getting the WiFi connection as before.  My laptop also uses the card and it is working fine.
When I go to the Network & Sharing Center and troubleshoot the internet connections I get a message saying that 'problem found: a network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken'. I don't have a network cable.
Under Networking & Sharing Center>Change Adapter Settings> the Local Area Connection has a red X. What does this mean and how can I get my computer to recognize the ATT Unite card again?
Under Device Manager>Network Adapters> only Realtek PCIc GBE Family Controller is showing.
I have not tried the HP Support Center yet to see if I can download something to fix this problem because I don't really know what to look for.
 Please help me.

Answer:Limited internet connection - wifi

hi bwilker,

Welcome to the Forums.

Just to verify, do you also get the "Limited Access" when you connect the machine thru Ethernet?

If yes, can you try the following:
 1. Open an elevated command prompt, type ipconfig /all and observe the TCP/IP IPV4 address

Ethernet Adapter Wireless Network Connection:
DHCP Enabled ..............   xxx (value should be Yes  No)
DHCP Server  ..................  xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
TCP/IP IPV4 Address .....  xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (preferred)
Subnet Mask ....................  xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Default Gateway ..............  xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

If you get a 169.254.xxx.xxx IP address, you're most likely getting a DHCP failover (APIPA).  check this thread and try the script made by cbautis2 to refresh the winsock and TCP/IP configurations of your PC or you can manually type the following on the command prompt and reboot the machine:

ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset

2. If you still get issues, try to refresh the network adapter by doing the following:
  a. Press the Windows logo key? +R> type devmgmt.msc
  b. Navigate to Network Adapters and uninstall the Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapter (don't delete the driver)
  c. Right click on Network Adapters and choose "Scan for Hardware Changes" to refresh the Wi-Fi /  Ethernet adapter

3. Boot the machine in Safe ... Read more

Greetings all.
Any insight would be great.
After recently moving housing and finding that the rear bedrooms are a wifi blackspot, I've just purchased WIFI repeater (no brand name on it or the packaging/instructions) from play.com . The item I purchased was wifi repeater
After attempting to follow the poorly worded instructions numerous times, including several factory resets, I've now managed to be able to connect my laptop to the repeater and the repeater to my Virgin wifi box. When I highlight my network item it even says virginmedia* (WIFI Repeater)
The installation wizard completes fully. I have tried to install both wirelessly and using the RJ45 cable.
Unfortunately, this seems to be as far as I can get....whilst apearing to be fully installed, when I open a web browser I cannot access any websites, saying that there is no internet connection.
Is there a conflict of IP addresses going on? The repeater sets my IPv4 address to 192.168.0.5, default to 192.168.0.1 and subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, however the virgin router will obviously have different address.
Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Chris

I'm using a Surface Pro2, upgraded to Win 10 a few months ago. 4 or 5 days ago, I was prompted to apply an update, which I did. Ever since then, I can't connect to the Internet using WiFi. The WiFi list says that I connect to the hotspot, but the connection Icon in the taskbar says "Not connected, connections available".
If I use a docking station/hub through the USB port, I can access the internet without problems.
It says I have the most recent driver for the Marvell device, I've restarted the machine, restarted the WiFi, tried connecting to different hotspots, no luck. My iPad connects to my network and browses out with no problems, so I know it is the Surface.

Every day or so, my wifi connection will no longer have internet access.  I have 2 HP Pavilion's and 1 Lenovo.  This is the only one that has this issue.  I've had the hard drive replaced and everything reinstalled for other reasons, but the issue with internet connectivity is still there.  If I hover over the WiFi icon in the lower right coner, it tells me right now the NETGEAR router I'm connected to and says Internet access below it.  When I've dropped internet access, the icon will have a yellow mark on it and hovering shows my NETGEAR router but it says no internet access. All I have to do is disconnect from my router and reconnect and I'll have internet access again, but that gets irritating. Could this be a hardware issue on my laptop and how do I determine that?  I'm still under warranty for another 2 months.

I have spent the last 4 days trying to get my WiFi to connect to the Internet and am ready to throw the computer and all its additional equipment out of the window!

Amongst a collection of other laptops and a desktop, running different systems - Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 - I have an old Acer Aspire 3000, running Windows XP Pro SP3. I use it mainly for midi file work and as a host for Visual Studio 2005 which I keep for maintenance of some programs, written many years ago, but still in use by some of my friends and for which I require frequent searches on the Internet. Just recently, for no apparent reason, the WiFi on this laptop suddenly stopped working. I have been using an Edimax EW-7318Usg wireless adapter, which has never given any trouble in the past, to connect with my home network through a router/modem supplied by my ISP.

Since every other computer, iPhone, iPad and Kindle connects to the same network and works perfectly, I have to assume that there is no problem with that router. Also, the problem laptop connects perfectly via the ethernet cable. It just won't work on WiFi alone!

I have checked my wireless connections setup, including TCP/IP, and can find no problem devices in Device manager.

I have searched for solutions on the internet and tried everything I can find - I have scanned my hard disk with Panda Antivirus; have downloaded and run MalwareBytes; I have tried changing the router channel; I have tried setting the ipconfig values. ... Read more

Have you tried using another adapter? Or tried using the adapter on another computer? Just to rule out if the adapter is bad.

Hi:

I have recently detected (and removed) zeroaccess! root virus with mcfee. I now do not have any (wifi or LAN) internet access. (little yellow flag over connection). I am running Windows7. So far I have run Combofix as recommended on another forum. In addtion, I have tried modifying nettcpip.inf and uninstalling then re-installing TCP/IP protocol - all to no avail. It is frustrating as I cannot update Mbam to try and use that (normal route) as there is no internet access to update Mbam - catch 22!

Can you please help or recommend a product or fix?

Thanks

Kind Regards

Richie

Answer:No internet connection when connect through wifi

VeasnaYim,
Welcome to Seven Forums!

First off, check to see if your internet indicator light on your router is on. If it is not, then it is the router that needs to be reconfigured. Otherwise, disconnect and reconnect to the router and see if that helps.

I've been having trouble with my internet connection for the past few days. It seems to be a battle between my router and modem, but my question is about the sidebar on windows 8. When I click on the internet connection icon (?) in the lower right hand corner, the sidebar appears, showing the internet connectivity. My PC is wired to the router and modem, so should I need to connect to my router listed under the WiFi listing? Can I be wired and wireless at the same time? And if so, will it cause problems?

Answer:Internet Connection - WiFi & Wired?

If you are plugged in with a cable and connected wirelessly then Windows will default to the faster connection which is usually the wired one. As soon as you unplug the cable then the wireless connection will be the connection you are using. No problems with that at all.

I have a brand new L 540 model 20AV which cannot connect to e internet via WIFI, Even though the laptop shows as "joined" on my wireless network (net gear N 300 router with WEP security). I have no problems on the hard wire connection to the internet via the router/cable modem. All my other mobile devices (a couple of iPads and an old X41 the L 540 is intended to rpelace) connect without problems to the network and through to the internet, so it seems the issue resides within the L 540.A total of three (3) Lenovo support personnel working by remote managed in combination to disable totally the wireless card and I had to ship the laptop back to support in Memphis. They re enabled the WIFI card and claimed they managed to connect wirelessly to the internet, and shipped the machine back to me.My symptoms continue, and I was able to generate an error message 163851 which seems to indicate some kind of protocol issue with no DNS server being available and/or responsive.I am strangely reluctant to resort once again to the help of the remote operators in Atlanta and would appreciate any help/hints. In particular would it be worthwhile to reinstall the router using the new laptop? Should I consider also upgrading from WEP to WPA or higher? Thanks for your help,J-P. G.

Run this tool from http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/wireless and update the driver.  The factory installed driver is not any good.

If i wanted to conect a laptop to the net so i can accsess the net anywere in the uk would i need this click here with thisclick here or just the first one or none of the above,im lost on this also do you need to set up an ISP like you do for normal net connection or do you just plug it in and go.

Answer:Wifi internet connection question

You would need a wireless card (your first Click Here) if your laptop is not already wireless enabled. The second Click Here is only if you want to acces the internet wirelessly from home. You don't necessarily need an ISP to access the internet on the move but you do need either a free wifi hotspot provider, some libraries, coffee shops provide these or a subscription with click here with which you can access hotspots at MacDonalds or PC Wporld for example. This is a good site for locating hotspots click here

Hello all!

I have wanted to do connect to two different networks simultaneously from a long time but I couldn't figure it out.

I have Windows XP Professional and a WiFi adapter as well as an ethernet adapter. In fact, I can use both the networks. My PC catches a wireless network and it is directly connected to my LAN through an Ethernet cable. It is connected to a Linksys router.

Now, what I wanted to do is connect and use both networks simultaneously. I can connect to both networks at the same time. However, I find that it, by default, I can access internet through the LAN. I wanted to increase the possible bandwidth by using two networks.Morevover, I wanted to assign certain applications access to the wireless network only. These applications take up lot of bandwidth and this affects the internet connection/speed of all PCs connected to the LAN.

Is this possible? Can we increase internet speed by using 2 networks? and also can we assign some apps exclusive access to one particular network?

Thank you,in advance, for your help.

Answer:WiFi and LAN dual internet connection

No.

You cannot group two dis-similar network topologies into a single virtual pipe. What you are proposing is to create a link aggregated group. Also, setting up LAGs or Etherchannels will not enhance your internet speeds. For the general populus, you will never have an internet connection faster than your LAN.

I don't know how your network is set up or what your applications are doing. But if an application is causing LAN performance issues through out the network, you have a configuration/design problem.

Hey.
I'll jump straight to my problem to keep things short.
I seem unable to use my WiFi connectivity on my notebook. By this I mean that I cannot surf the internet or download anything using download managers <IDM and uTorrent>.
However, strange as it may be, Windows is able to connect to the microsoft update servers and carry on the Windows updates. So I guess it's not a driver problem.

I started experiencing problems with network connectivity a few days back, when my notebook would automatically disconnect from the network when my dad would connect on his notebook. I tried setting the IPv4 IP and DNS manually (thinking it might be a network conflict?) but that didn't solve the issue.

Anyways. Now I CAN connect to the internet while I'm surfing the net on dad's notebook. That is, it shows it is connected to the network and windows updates work fine. But the main problem still persists, dad's notebook switched on or not.

I haven't tried a wired connection yet - I don't have an ethernet cable. .__.

My drivers are up-to-date.

Extra info, might be unnecessary:
I've tried Google Chrome, Firefox 4, IE9.

Chrome says: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error.

uTorrent says it has a "listen error" and asks me to change the listen port.

I can PING update.msdn.com from CMD.
I can PING Google, gmail.com, wikipedia.com, yahoo.com, youtube.com.
I can PING 192.168.1.3 (dad's laptop)

Hi everyone,
I'm having this problem with the WiFi (which I set up in 2011) at my grandfather's. I googled quite a bit for this problem and never found a solution. I've had the issues for quite some time, but as I usually only stayed there for a couple of days the last couple of times anyway, I didn't spend too much time fixing it. Now I'll be taking care of him for a week, and I'm here for a total of almost 2 weeks. The Internet connection is very poor - sometimes, web pages will load (but not as quickly as they should), sometimes they will load after about 1 minute, sometimes they will load about halfway and just not go any further, and sometimes page loading just gets stuck at the beginning. There is never any message such as "the server timed out" of "the server could not be found". The problem only happens on my computer (Lenovo ThinkPad X230 Tablet with Intel Advanced-N 6205) - I've seen at least 10 devices at various times using the Internet without any issues, including his laptop (thank goodness), and my computer doesn't have this issue with any other wifi network (the router is a Tenda single band Wireless-N W268R). I don't have the problem when I connect via ethernet, but the ethernet connection is only available upstairs, and I want to be able to stay downstairs when I need Internet on my computer, because he can barely make it up the stairs. I can also access the router settings etc. without any issues. Here is what I've tried (although it co... Read more

Answer:Poor Internet connection over WiFi

Hi trainman, Welcome to Seven forums.

Try to upgrade the router's and your NIC firmware.

1- Change wireless router encryption to WEP, rather than WPA. (I understand switching to WPA2 could also help with some compatibility issues...)

2- Uninstall router management software that came with router (e.g. D-Link router comes with a program called “Network Magic”. It might interfere with the Windows-7 wireless software that is already installed)

3- Change wireless adapter settings: In "Properties", unclick "TCP/IPv6"

4- Change wireless adapter settings: In "Properties/Configure", disabled Ad Hoc QoS Mode.

5- Change wireless adapter settings: In "Properties/Configure", changed Wireless Mode to 802.11g

6- In Control Panel/Power Options: Change advanced power settings... Wireless adapter settings: set to Maximum Performance

Answer:Slow internet connection via WIFI

Did not need the IPConfig info. Why are you also downloading updates from some unknown third party website? You most likely have downloading sketchy updates, that is causing your problems.

If you want to update software. Let the software update from the software manufacturer site that created the software. Using third party sites can allow you to infect your computer.

First off, you will need open the Charms bar. It is the black bar that appears on the right side of the screen. Select Settings, then near the bottom select Network. Select the Network you are currently connected to, then select Disconnect. Now, select the network you would like to connect to. Below it a text box should appear for you to enter the password. Enter the password, and click Connect.

Please help because I am seriously lost.

First let me qualify by stating I am a Novice at best when it comes to computers, so any help or replies, please bear that in mind and make your replies user-friendly for those of us who see computer language as a foreign language

Ok, I recently signed up for Comcast Internet service who uses Arris Gateway modems. Unfortunately, after the modem/internet was installed I can't get online via WiFi. This was not a problem I've ever experienced with AT&T.

I can however get on line and connect to the internet if I plug my laptop directly into the modem via the Ethernet cable. But if I unplugging the Ethernet the signal is poor to fair at best which causes me to get dropped from the internet in. Therefore, I am relegated to sitting literally 3 feet away from the modem in order to get WiFi.

The tech support came out and changed the modem with a brand new one and I still have to problem because they can't figure it out, so I checked all outdated drivers and recently downloaded the following:

1) 296.10 Notebook
2) Dell_multi touchpad
3) MB_driver_wlan-wb300d (atheros) BTW, my network adapter is the AR9258
4) Slave_driver (audio)
5) NVIDIA_MCP729_chipset V1552
6) NB_driver T1006M_wn7-32 (card reader)

All of which is totally foreign to me. I'm running Win7, 32-bit on an MSI computer.

Anyone who can offer assistance or help me resolve this problem would be of great help.

Hi all. I have a laptop in my dorm room about less than block away and I have a very weak signal (1 bar or less) and I want to know if I could be able to hook on the net with the this network. I've gotten about 45,000 packets sent to me when I had 1 bar but none were received. This is probably because the signal is so weak. Is there anyway I can increase the network strength? Maybe I can buy something like a router or antenna or something to make it reach the network. I have no idea, I'm new to this stuff. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Laptop Connection to WIFI Network

Is the WIFI provided by your school, or are you just picking up a signal from somebody's elses router??
