System update & restart = USB,WIFI,LAN,AUDIO drivers failed to load.

Question: System update & restart = USB,WIFI,LAN,AUDIO drivers failed to load.

I have a ThinkPad Edge 13" - before last restart, I used Lenovo System Update and it updated some drivers, not all but incl. some recommended updates- still.. After this restart- even USB, Wifi, Wired, Audio was gone, in Device Manager it says "Windows couldn't load the driver" .. When I click the sound symbol it automatically searches for the driver, finds it, and again it says there's a driverproblem even if it's installed correctly. Now, as a datatechnician and C# programmer I am getting nervous about two possibilities .. Since I've never visited any dodgy websites or downloaded .exe files. 1. It could be a broken Lenovo update (Which I hope)2. It could be virus, malware, spyware, rootkit or worse .. I've had Security Essentials installed on my PC the entire time .. modelnumber of my edge: NUD2EMD About my EDGE it's been a mixed experience, I do not recognize the quality feel of the usual ThinkPads, the paint is easily worn off the edges just by putting it back/forth in a bag. The Intel WiFi 1000 BGN works OK with some WiFi's, but other some WiFi networks it just won't connect to and always fails connecting or is markable slower at requesting webpages, but not at fetching them. This problem has persisted again and again, even @ home with my LINKSYS WRT54G I'm somtimes thrown off and can never come back on unless I restart my computer. The start-button I've always struggled with, the first press never seems to power ON the laptop, but a second (sometimes harder) press powers it ON and I've never had problems with it not reacting to a second harder press ..

Preferred Solution: System update & restart = USB,WIFI,LAN,AUDIO drivers failed to load.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: System update & restart = USB,WIFI,LAN,AUDIO drivers failed to load.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/ How about trying a system restore and take it back before all the updates were done. If that works and everything is back like it was, then download this from the link and let it update and run a quick scan just to rule out any malware. If all your hardware is back working and you are not able to download malwarebytes, post back. If you are able to download it and do the scan and nothing shows up, then you can run your system update again and this time don't install everything at once, install one at a time and reboot after each one. Run your system and make sure there are no problems before you install the next one. The problem with doing a bunch of updates all at once makes it real difficult to determine which one is acting up. Let's work on getting your system back to normal and then we'll see what's going on with the wireless disconnecting and the problem with the start button.

I have a t450s, around 6 months old. All working fine. Got a notification via the lenovo system app of an upgrade. It included bios and wifi. I installed the update, all went well. The laptop reset it's self after the install. No error messages at any time. When I now log on, the wifi card is not recognised and the lan card is not recognised. Any suggestions? I tried a roll back in the installed apps. No luck. Typing this on my tablet.

Hi Philtronix, Few Questions and i may be able to help:1. What OS and version are your running? (i.e. Windows 7 64 Bit)2. Can you post a screenshot of the driver version through device manager by right clicking on your network cards? (Heres a guide on how to get there http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows-8/where-is-device-manager)3. Have you tried anything to resolve the issue thus far? Monday couldn't boot up PC, had to go to system recovery and restore to previous day.

Log files show below that 4 things failed to load.

Tuesday couldn't boot up PC again.. tried to restart like 4-5 times.. Finally comes up and in the logs there's numerous things that failed to load. Running a sfc /scannow right now.

Any ideas what this could be related to or what is causing it?

Answer:Solved: Boot-Start or System-Start Drivers failed to load.

MpFilter is a driver associated with Microsoft Security Essentials... It looks like that was causing issues. Windows Updates had an update for it.. So I downloaded update.. Restared and it worked fine. Removed MS Security Essentials and installed Symantec istead.

Working for the time being...

Briefly:
My old system hasn't been powered on for about a year. Problem was the onboard video failed (I think)

Recently replaced it with a video card from another system (riva TNT) and bought some memory (system wouldn't boot, determined that the memory was bad)

Now the system booted but win2K wouldn't work. No problem I have XP now...

After multiple error during the xp install I finally got through it...only the computer will only boot in safe mode..

Initially thought it was a hardare conflict so I booted in safe mode with networking and systematically cleared all the yellow ??? in device manager

Still will not boot normally

Checked event log got the following error:
Event 7026: The following boot-start or system-start drivers failed to load:

Amdk7
fips

Searched the net found a M$ support about it

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306458

couldn't find amdk7.sys but managed to update the driver over the net, now its there...yet I get the same error

I did the regedit described but no folder called "parameters"

Made one....didn't work....deleted the value
added the key to my available folder....didn't work

I'm at wits end....I've been working on this (off and on) for a month

Can anyone help with this one?????

I've been having problems with my computer the past few months restarting on its own due to system error. I checked the event log and it keeps showing this same problem. "The following boot-start or system drivers failed to load: Lbd" I'm running windows xp.

I'm not sure where to even begin to fix these problems. Some online searches suggested doing a system repair but I want to get some more feedback here before proceeding.

Here is the message from the event log:
The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
AFD
cmdGuard
cmdHlp
CSC
DfsC
discache
ElbyCDIO
inspect
MpFilter
NetBIOS
NetBT
nsiproxy
Psched
rdbss
spldr
tdx
vwififlt
Wanarpv6
WfpLwf

I realized some of these are not Windows 7 related but most are. While the computer "works", I do experience frequent reboots and freezes. Perhaps some of these driver loading failures are part of the cause of my issues. I do have another recent thread here regarding system crashes so I'll leave that alone in this post.

TIA

Answer:the following boot start or system start drivers failed to load

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7, or a Repair Install would a better first option.

You will have to reinstall the third-party drivers again yourself from their website.

Hope this helps,

I have the following problem:
I'm using Windows 2000 Server and when i starting logging on it says "At least one driver failed to start up" which is slowing down the start up considerably! Is there anyway i can locate the driver(s)that didn't start up so that i can eliminate this message somehow?
At the Event Viewer log i found two error and one warning, as they follow:

Error1:Content index on c:\system volume information\catalog.wci is corrupt. Please shutdown and restart the Indexing Service (cisvc).

Error2: Cleaning up corrupt content index metadata on c:\system volume information\catalog.wci. Index will be automatically restored by refiltering all documents.

Warning: 4 inconsistencies were detected in PropertyStore during recovery of catalog c:\system volume information\catalog.wci.

Thank you for your help in advance!

Hi
My brother had a laptop given to him by his sister in law which hasn't been used for about 8 months and was bought about 15 months ago so it is quite new and not used very much an Acer Extensa 5220.
I was trying to connect it for him to his wireless router but the button on the front of the laptop wouldn't make the light come on to enable the wireless connection and we thought at first it wasn't wireless enabled but after looking at the 'Device Manager' and 'Network Adapter' all the drivers have the little yellow symbols with the exclamation marks by the side of them indicating that there is something wrong (can't remember the exact wording now but it was something like the drivers failed.
But on starting up the laptop at first we had a window come up saying that the computer could not be started please wait and a program started a repair process but at the end it said it couldn't be repaired.
The laptop came on ok but obviously the Network section was the part that failed to load.
So my question is... if I click on update or roll back on these 'yellow symboled' icons would that be the right thing to do?
Thanks

Answer:Network drivers failed to load...

I suppose your Acer is running Vista otherwise Win7 should have handled all those major drivers.
You can download drivers from Acer website click here and choose the laptop model with a working laptop/pc, here is a screenshot of the page you should finally get to click here
If all fails then inevitably you'll have to restore it back to factory settings, instruction below quoted from Acer site:
Restore and recovery
The restore and recovery features allow you to restore or recover the system from a factory default image, from a user created image, or from previously created CD and DVD backups. You can also reinstall applications and drivers for your Acer system.
1 Press + or select Acer eRecovery Management from the Empowering Technology toolbar to start Acer eRecovery Management.
2 Switch to the restore and recovery page by selecting the Restore button.
3 Select the backup point you would like to restore from. You can also choose to recover the system from a factory default image, recover from a previously created CD/DVD or reinstall applications and drivers.
4 Follow the instructions on screen to complete the process.

Enter button doesn't respond. Please help!! If I turn computer off it takes up to 20 tries before it starts to boot.

Just got my W530, plugged it in, set up internet, and proceeded to run Windows Update as my first chore.  29 of the initial 54 updates FAILED.  Tried 3 more times, nothing but failures.  Ran system restore, and selected the first restore point, from when I first powered up the computer.  System restore FAILED. I am guessing this is not normal?  I only installed a few browsers, and CPUZ, in between the updating process.  I am trying to make recovery media, but the please wait dialog has been doing it's impression of KIT the car for at least 10 minutes, and when I tried to close it I get "not responding". Any ideas?  It would be nice if I didn't have to return a new laptop over some lame software glitch. :-( Paul Anderegg

Is this similar to what you're seeing? If so, try the solution I posted on the top of page 2. see if installing the one troublesome update, KB2647753, first, by itself, then allows all of the others to succeed.

HiI bought Win 8 for a Win 7 Dell laptop in Jan. 2013 and have happily used Win 8 for a year. I have a Win 8 backup disc and valid license key.

I decided to update Win 8 to the free Win 8.1 a few days ago and went ahead with the download and installation of Win 8.1. However, after a seemingly successful installation, set up and login, a simple reboot resulted in no longer being able to boot. I can boot to safe mode but cannot boot properly no matter what I do.
There is no specific error message when I reboot, the OS simply fails to reach the login stage and reboots again. It then opens the 'Failed startup' page asking if I wish to use advanced options or restart.

I tried turning off all non-Microsoft software like AVG, Comodo, Samsung Keys, etc., but it didn't solve the issue.

I also noticed that Safe Mode boot fails when I attempt to boot to 'Safe Mode with Networking' but is successful when booting to simple 'Safe Mode' or 'Safe Mode with Command Prompt'.

I have attempted to burn the Win 8.1 disc as described on this site but from a Win XP system which according to the download software is not possible and unfortunately I do not have access to another system.

Can anyone please help me repair and boot my system?
Thank you for any help.

Suddenly this weekend, every time I turn the computer on, my onboard Realtek AC'97 drivers apparently get lost, and I need to reinstall them and reselect my speakers as playback device.

Haven't changed any hardware, nor have I installed any new or funky software.

Hello guys

I am experiencing problems with my newly installed Windows 10 Pro. Whenever I try to install the latest Realtek HD audio drivers for my onboard sound card the software asks me it needs a reboot to succeed removing the 'old' driver software. I never installed these 'old' drivers to begin with so they must have been installed with Windows Update or something. Anyway, whenever the software asks me if I want to reboot the system I politely choose yes but once rebooted the software starts to remove the old drivers again after which it asks me again to reboot my system. This process will go on and on forever, is my system not ready for Windows 10 yet or what is the problem with this one here? I downloaded the driver because I had no sound to begin with. When I play audio however Windows detects that there is audio playing but nothing comes from my speakers. My speakers (Logitech z906 5.1) are connected with my PC via optical audio cable.

My PC:

CPU: Intel Core i5 3570k boxed @3,4 ghz
GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 760 DirectCu II OC 2GB
MOTHERBOARD: Asus Sabertooth z77
SSD: Crucial M4 128 GB
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB @7200 RPM

Am I a complete idiot because of not being able to install the correct Windows 10 drivers or do I miss out on something? When I upgraded my Windows 8.1 installation to Windows 10 my audio worked just fine, but some other problems occured and I installed a fresh Windows 10 from scratch (used Produkey in Windows 8.1 to get the product key for... Last night Windows 10 downloaded an update. It took hours to download, and prepare for the install. In the end, History shows that the update failed to install, but it still wants a Restart. Restarting does not make the message go away. I now always get the Update And Restart/Shutdown options when the power icon is pressed. I ran the trouble shoot which says is found and fixed problems, but I don't see a way to redo the install or end the Restart request.

Answer:Help!!! Windows Update Install Failed, But Restart Required

Hi just so you are aware of what this is- this is the major build upgrade from 1703 to 1709 (Creator's build to Fall creator's build). That's around 4Gb I guess - and is the same underlying process as Windows installation, normally requiring a couple of restarts.

There are numerous reasons why an upgrade may fail; I don't recall seeing a report of one failing quite like this reported here, but there could well have been. Certainly there are other such reports on the net.

Try the simple things: deactivate your AV if any; do a clean boot; remove any unnecessary peripherals especially wireless.

Also please post a screenshot of your partitions using Minitool Partition Wizard, expanding all columns as necessary so text is visible.

Hallo I have experienced wireless connectivity problems since I started to use my T430s with Windows 8 64bits in March 2013. In the last months, it seemed to work a little better - no idea why. BUT Some weeks ago, "Lenovo System Update" brought me a new version of the wifi drivers (16.1.3), which I installed immediately with the following result: no connectivity at all any more! Exactly the same happened a few months ago with a similar official Lenovo update. Fortunately, in both cases I could restore the former state using a restoration point. Anybody has an idea why this happens? Hello,
I have a new computer,
Mobo: ASROCK Z68 EXTREME4 GEN3
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB

I've installed the latest drivers for each. When I try to play a game I get the error stated in the thread title. I have also tried deleting and reinstalling the drivers. I've looked on several forums for this error message and possible solutions. Everyone seems to point to drivers being the issue, but no definate solutions. Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Graphics System failed to Initialize. Please restart your client.

When you removed the drivers and then installed the drivers you wanted, did you use the following steps?
Download the drivers you want for your display card(s)
Click Start Menu
Click Control Panel
Click Uninstall a program
For AMD:Uninstall AMD Catalyst Install Manager if it is listed (this should remove all AMD graphics software and drivers)
If AMD Catalyst Install Manager is not listed, use the following method to uninstall the graphics drivers:Click Start Menu
Right Click My Computer/Computer
Click Manage
Click Device Manager from the list on the left
Expand Display adapters
Do the following for each adapter (in case you have multiple display cards)Right click the adapter
Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK

Alternatively:Login as an adminstrative user

So far I've managed to contract a couple different types of viruses (half of them from antivirus programs or cleaners), failed miserably at a system restore (Backup just threw everything in with no rhyme or reason-unrelated files together in same folder and some even in a folder, files and folders put in places they don't belong, duplicates, etc. The COMPUTER doesn't even know where it put them), deleted vital files and folders, restored the registry to the last good, which happened to be a day when I had the Avira desktop virus AND my keyboard didn't work due to IDVault, and restored the registry to around the time dinosaurs roamed the earth.Last night, after a failed installation of installer files, most of my drivers stopped working. I'm getting Errors 3, 31,0x80004005 and some I can't remember and when I go into Microsoft Defrag, the bar is almost completely red. My CPU's are at 100%. . I tried lowering priority of winlogon and csrss, but it says "access denied." It also says that when I try to do anything with Avira in Services. I can't find any form of the word "Avira" when I search, but you see on the log that it's there's a file called "avgio" and a couple others. I tried to run system restore again this morning, but it kept saying nothing was changed when I logged back on. After Windows 8.1 downloaded and installed an update and also SQL Server 2012 SP1, I restarted it and then it no longer booted. The BIOS splash screen would pop up, then the screen went black and nothing else happened. Even the hard drive activity stopped.
I booted from the Windows 8 DVD and chose Troubleshooting and tried Automatic Repair and System Restore, neither of which worked. I then chose Refresh Your PC. However, it then said the drive was locked and I should unlock it before continuing. I used Diskpart to clear the attributes of the volume but that didn't help.

In the end, I did a reinstall without formatting the disk. Once I booted it up properly, I had a look in the Windows.old folder and all of my documents, pictures and other work are missing.

Firstly, is there any way I can roll back to the original install so I don't have to spend a full day installing everything again, and if not, how do I recover all my files?

Hello everybody,

I am having some major problems with my computer. I'm on Windows XP SP3 and around a week and a half ago I found that my computer would freeze soon after I logged on. The computer becomes totally unresponsive and nothing works.

I can log on in Safe Mode, where I found in Error Reporting that the following drivers failed to load on start up - Fips, Intelppm, SAVRT and SYMTDI.

I have recently done several antivirus/malware sweeps, using my antivirus programs and combofix, hijackthis etc - so I now believe my computer to be malware free.

However, the problem remains so I am now faced with a Windows/HDD problem and I am stuck and do not know what to do next.

Could any experts on here offer me any advice? It would be greatly appreciated.

you've probably heard this before but everywhere I look forums only tell of how to fix or temporarily fix it. What caused this problem in the first place? also, I keep hearing about this thing called windows blinds but everytime I type it in on google it just shows actual window blinds for houses in the results.

I think my pc may have registry problems. If i fix those with the right software will everything be normal again? sometimes when I play my games it also just shuts down unexpectedly telling me a prob caused it to close.

Don't mean to sound like a noob for this stuff but it kind of bugs me how you have to do so much research and be a tech genius in order to use windows right. I mainly want to know about this stuff because I play crysis alot and it has taught me to fix and reconfigure things on my pc in order for it to run better and I'm happy about that but I don't really want to be a techie or pc enthusiast and have to go to computer school for 4 years just so I can run my game perfectly! its driving me nuts. so any help on what I can do to solve this? know its my fault for downloading freeware and things like that when I wasnt as knowledgeble but after this gets resolved I think I know enough about pc's now to prevent any future problems. thanks guys.

I'm working on my mom's computer remotely via LogMeIn (Home Premium SP2). A persistent problem is an inability to update the system due to the Windows Update giving me a "The page failed to load" error. This happens after I click on the "15 optional updates are available" hyperlink in the Windows Update pane. There are no critical updates.

An initial Google search returned the most common cause as being "WindowBlinds" by Stardock. This program, however, is not installed on her computer (verified by a search of programs in the "All Programs" links, "Program Files" folder, "Uninstall or change a program", and a search for "stardock" in the registry.

"sfc /scannow" in administrative mode on the command line failed to return any errors.

I also went to Microsoft's relevant Knowledge Base article here and attempted to use the Fix It program to fix Windows Update. The program successfully ran and fixed the files that were damaged (whatever they happened to be), but this did not solve the issue.

Finally, I removed threats using SUPERAntiSpyware, reregistered some .dll files as recommended by Microsoft (IMPORTANT NOTE: Some of them failed), and restarted with non-essential services disabled and startup items disabled.

I just put together a new computer using an ASUS B150M-A D3 motherboard. After getting everything connected, and loading the Windows 7 OS (the original version of Windows 7, not the SP1 version) I proceeded to insert the DVD that came with the motherboard to load all of the drivers. When the installation procedure was complete, I found that all of the drivers had loaded except the Realtek HD Audio driver. I tried to install it again a couple of more times, but each time the install got to 99% and then quit with the message that the installation had failed.

I went out to the ASUS web site and found that they had two drivers for this device, one a little older than the other, so I downloaded both of them and installed the newest one. I got a message that the installation had completed successfully.

I rebooted and then checked the speaker icon in the System Tray and it had a red "X" through it. Hovering the mouse over it showed the following message: "No Audio Output Device is installed."

I went into the Device Manager to Sound, Video, and Game Controllers. Two devices were listed: High Definition Audio Device and Intel Display Audio. A quick check of the Intel device showed me that the device was working correctly.

I double clicked the High Definition Audio Device and under the General tab it showed: "No drivers are installed for this device". I clicked the Driver tab and then clicked the Update Drivers button. Windows worked on it for a few se... Read more

I have a Sager laptop P177SM that came with Win7 installed when I bought it a couple of years ago. A couple of weeks ago I decided to upgrade to Win10, I didn't like it so I tried to roll it back to Win7. During the rollback something happened and it screwed up so that the laptop would freeze up at the login screen (keyboard and mouse were unresponsive). Yesterday I did a format and fresh install of Win7, reinstalled all of the system drivers and left the laptop running overnight to run windows update. The WIFI was working fine yesterday and last night before I went to bed but I woke up this morning to find that Windows update failed and the WIFI hasn't worked since, it doesn't detect any available networks. I have tried reinstalling the wifi adapter drivers and that didn't work. I have now reinstalled Win7 again, reinstalled all of the drivers and my wifi network is still not detected. I have 2 phones connected to my wifi network so I know that it is working fine, the issue has to be with the laptop. Is it possible for a failed update to break the wifi hardware? I checked to make sure the WLAN autoconfig service is running and have run network diagnostics but nothing works. Any ideas?

Hi all.

My pc has been hanging randomly and I have to use the power button to shut down/restart.

I've checked in events and there is this error which seems to be causing the problem as the time matches with the hang time.

I posted another topic with another bsod issue in the bsod section, and I was told to run some tests.

A day or so ago, I tried and changed Driver Verifier settings as were instructed in one of the threads here which also mentions that it is an iffy thing to do.

Anyway, I lost windows and could not start again, luckily I had a backup made, and after formatting my HD, loaded it on to it. This error seems to be a driver issue (Screenshot).

Should I go down the Driver Verifier route again ? To be honest I don't want to. If I lose windows again it would be very frustrating.

I've run the following tests so far here

I have no driver issues showing up in Device Manager, so that looks ok.

Please advise. Thank you.

I looked around and found a reference to Mother Board Monitor which at least sounds like it might be the culprit.

Do you have that application installed, or some other temperature / fan speed monitoring sw?

Alex Van Kaam, the author of Mother Board Monitor, stopped development in 2004 citing his frustration getting technical information from mfgrs.

Anyway, if you have Mother Board Monitor installed, remove it. If you have other monitoring sw, post what you have and someone might know more about that sw (MBM source used?)

Hey,

I am new on here, so I apologize if I don't include information that is needed right away.

However, I have a dell studio xps 16 and the thing keeps randomly restarting on me. I checked the event log and every time it lists a "critical" event (The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.), the previous event is "fanio.sys failed to load."

I am thinking that for some reason, the failure of fanio.sys to start is causing my computer to crash and restart. Why is this happening?

Also, another interesting point is that nothing is being listed under Blue Screen Viewer -- only the event logger.

I have also had trouble with USB.sys crashing my system and believe that occurs whenever I have something plugged into my computer through usb and later unplug it -- the computer will crash at some random point after unplugging the usb.

Below is the bluescreenview information for when the system randomly restarts due to the usb.sys:

A while ago, after accidentally opening the Store app, Windows forced me to restart to install Windows 8.1, which I was unable to weeks before because of driver issues. I didn't need Windows 8.1 yet, so I didn't download it before then.

However, during the installation, it failed (again) due to either my antivirus or the aforementioned driver issues. Upon logging back in, my computer was unable to find any WiFi networks. Seeing as I live in the middle of a densely populated city, this isn't possible. Plugging in an ethernet cord still works, so no issues with that adapter or my home internet. I checked all the drivers for my WiFi adapter, and my Ethernet adapter, and both are up to date and display as working properly. Restarting several times didn't seem to fix this issue, and using system restore didn't seem to work either. I used the Troubleshooting tool, and that didn't give my any helpful advice or answers, so I got nothing.

What can I do to fix this issue?

For reference, I have a Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adapter, Driver Version 6.30.95.14, and a Qualcomm Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller, Driver Version 2.1.0.7.

Answer:Computer screen not turning on after BIOS update failed using System Update

Hello, if your dvd is spinning up, you could try to download your bios as an iso file, burn it to disc, and try to boot and flash from this cd.The last chance is to take out the battery, click power ten times, insert battery again and plug ac in. If nothing goes, call Lenovo support line, you´ll need a new system board.

Hi Guys at SevenForums Im back again(i know you guys are tired of me, lol)! O.K., here goes:

first, I got an alert from the action center saying I have a virus( although i know it would be helpful, i do not remeber the virus' name, sorry), it showed the name, and suggested i remove it. So i downloaded mbam, installed it, updated it, and ran it. it discovered 1 moderate, 3 low risk infections so I removed them all. I ran a quick scan afterwards to confirm the system was clean...and system was clean. ( I also ran a quick scan with VIPRE Internet Security 2013 and found 0 infections)

second, I received a windows update alert saying there were updates available. I figured that would be a good idea right about now to fully update my system with any vulnerability releases, so i let them download, but i always choose when to install them. They completed download and were "ready" for install. so I shutdown the computer so it can install the updates. So far, all textbook stuff right?

Here's where it got tricky...

O.K. so third, it gets to the windows screen, but the login screen never appears just the mouse cursor. I chalk it up to the updates now being configured,...so I wait...and wait...and wait. So now its been 15 min and things are not looking textbook at this point. the display is still showing a black screen and I notice the HDD light is not flashing, so its not crunching. Since no data was being crunched I figured it safe to power down and retry, but the power ... Read more

I googled the issue and found that this could mean my system reserved partition is full and indeed that is what I found. My C: drive is a 500 GB SSD but the system partition is only 100 MB of which only 3 MB is free.

MS web page has a long convoluted command line "fix" for this (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3086249) but I was wondering why I couldn't just "shrink" the main C: drive partition and then "extend" the system partition using diskmgmt.msc.

Or is there a better way?

Answer:latest update failed - can't update system reserved partition

Hello Ray Lo,

Yes, potentially you can do this... But I would suggest backup of your SSD, before you try to do anything as such... WRT shrinking and moving partitions! Just in case!

My XPS 13 has been crashing when I restart the computer. It does this occasionally when I restart during normal use, for example when my wifi stops working (which is often). Recently I've been trying to update some intel chipset drivers and the BIOS using the dell support assist program. Each time after the drivers or BIOS is installed the computer will crash during the restart sequence. I have to hold the power button to turn it off then back on. After rebooting the drivers and BIOS have not been updated. This is driving me nuts, can anyone explain how to can fix this??
Additionally, I had a microsoft support guy remote in and try to fix things last night. He supposedly deleted junk files, deleted software distribution, manually updated drivers, and did an in-place upgrade. Still getting the same result when I try to update drivers and BIOS.
Please help, this is supposed to be a premium computer and it's turning into a total lemon...

Hi everybody,

This is my first post on this forum. I've recently come across a problem with my computer. I'm running Windows Vista 32 bit. I shut the computer down one day, and the next day turning it on I came across this problem.

File: \Windows\System32\Drivers\nqgbwc.sys

Status: 0xc0000225

Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.

I have no clue what this means. It said insert windows installation disc and repair computer. I did this, self repair found nothing. I then tried system restore and it could not initialize which is a pain in the ass. My last resort is to reinstall windows vista but I think I'm going to lose everything.

If anyone has any advice or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Kevin

Answer:Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.

First see if you can boot into Safemode without it giving you that error. If you can, first try searching for that driver to see if its even in your system32 folder.

I recently just checked my computer and it is not in mine by default, which means its a file relating to a third party program/app that has been installed on your machine. If you can figure out what the abbreviation for NQGBWC is from the list of installed applications on your computer, then you can isolate which program on startup is causing the failure on booting windows due to the missing system file.

As you may have already tried, i cannot simply google search nqgbwc.sys as it gives me just THIS post only. If you cannot find the problem, then the only thing possible from there is to reinstall your OS but of course BACK UP EVERYTHING IMPORTANT FIRST.

Answer:windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing or corrupt

I have a few questions:
1. Do you have a repair disc?
2. If not, does the PC have a recovery partition?
3. Can you boot from a live CD (such as Puppy Linux)?
4. What were you doing before the problem started?

Whenever I play music, the system crashes. This has been happening the past 2 months and is very annoying since I am used to continuous music.

The memory.dmp file is uploaded here -

I have, or had a laptop purchased 9 months ago, therefore under warranty. Yesterday the ThinkVantage System Update recommended a BIOS update. After the traditional recommendations about what should not shut down the computer, the laptop is reset and started with the update.

During execution, displayed on a screen command, a message "ERROR XXXX. Press any key to continue." After press the key the laptop was freezedy was completely blocked. After an hour without seeing response and no sign of life, I decided to turn it off to confirm the disaster. The laptop was dead.

The laptop began to beep and would not start. Before the panic generated by the situation, I searched the forums where I found several cases that refer to the same problem and the insinuation that makes LENOVO about the customer's responsibility to avoid recognizing the warranty.

I was not looking for a BIOS update, it was recommended by ThinkVantage System Update, the software executed it and damage the equipment.

Besides being a damage caused by the ThinkVantage System Update, the situation gets worse when the answer given by support insinuates that the customer turn off the computer, so it is a CID (Customer Induced Damage) and therefore the guarantee does not cover it. I do not understand how LENOVO may imply that the responsibility of the customer. Really disastrous.

In conclusion, if you are not needing to make a BIOS update, it is preferable to omit the BIOS update messages given to ThinkVantage System... Read more

I used System Update on my T530 today to update the BIOS.   On reboot, the T530 hung.   With help from Lenovo support, I rebooted the computer.   Now System Update says the bios update was successful to 2.54.1.11, but SystemInfo says that the current bios is BIOS Version: LENOVO G4ET93WW (2.53 ), 2/22/2013.    Lenovo support said that they only support the hardware and this is a software issue.   They had no idea who in Lenovo supported System Update.   They also advised to rarely if ever to update the bios "unless the system doesn't boot properly".   I have never heard that in 30 years of IT.    I would like to get System Update to be consistent with the bios level.   And I believe I want to update the bios.   Can anyone help with either of these two issues? ThanksBarry

If you're sure you want/need the BIOS update, you can download it from your Driver Matrix:

I would recommend the Bootable CD version. I've never had a failed update with that method.

I'm running XP. Yesterday I installed iobit malware, and started receiving errors right away, so I uninstalled with advanced system care's uninstaller. I kept getting said errors when I tried running multiple programs, so I tried a system restore. The restore failed, but afterward I had no audio. Now it says all my drivers are working but the hardware isn't found. What should I do?

(Realtek High Definition Audio, Audials Sound Capturing, Aduio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Media Control Devices, etc... all say error code 41.)

services.msc: Windows Audio Service is automatic and started.

Thank you for any help!

Answer:No audio found after failed system restore

welcome to Major Geeks!

You could try another system restore point. If you previously tried it through windows, try it via Safe Mode. Boot the computer into safe mode and select "Safe mode with Command Prompt". The PC should boot to a Dos type screen. At the prompt, type C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe and press Enter. Wait till the system restore program starts; and it can take a while for it to start, depending on your system. I've seen it take between 5 - 10mins on a really slow system. Once it does start, pick a restore point before you had the problem start, and also before the last one you tried. I've had this method work where system restore had failed through Windows.

If it still fails:

Reinstall the audio driver. If you have a commercial PC like a Dell, HP, Gateway, Etc., go to the manufacturer's website page for your PC and download the driver for the audio there. Sometimes commercial PC manufacturers use proprietary drivers for motherboard systems.

If a homebuilt system, go to the motherboard manufacturer's site and get the driver from there.

Let us know how you are doing with it

My Windows XP (SP-2) suddenly crashes without warning from 20 - 50 minutes after booting up. The "Events and Errors Message" states:

Event I.D. = 7026
Source = Service Control Manager
Version = 5.0
Component = System Event Log
Symbolic Name = EVENT_BOOT_SYSTEM_DRIVERS_FAILED
Message = The following boot-start or system start drivers failed to load:

ersd
esft

The system error codes reported on the "blue screen" are:

Error code 10000df, parameter 1 00000008, parameter 2 80042000, parameter 3 300000000, parameter 4 0000000.

I ran CHKDSK and no problems were reported. I then ran Windows Upgrade Advisor and there were no problems with my system, devices, or programs. My anti-virus software is BitDefender 9 and I also run Spy Sweeper, Spybot, and Ad-Ware SE. None of these reported any problems. My graphics card, sound card, and other peripherals do not have any new drivers. I ran the registry cleaning software ErrorSmart and it did not pick up any driver or other conflicts which could cause a crash. I recently defragged the hard drive so I assume the above drivers are in the most appropriate location. The system crashes continue.

Any advice to solve the above driver problem and crashes would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys, so im fixing my neighbors laptop for him. He gets bsod at startup about 90% of the time but is still able to boot correctly a small portion of the time. When he does boot itll run for about 30 minutes and then shutoff with bsod again. I scanned and removed all malware and ran a virus scan as well, and cleaned up all junk files and registry errors with CCleaner. I also ran a system file check against a windows 7 install disc to make sure everyting looked a ok there. I opened up his boot log and saw a number of failed drivers which I am assuming is the problem. I will attach it here. Anyway are the failed drivers the problem, and if so is there an easy fix, or should i salvage his data and reinstall. Thanks a bunch

Answer:BSOD on system startup due to failed loading of drivers?

What virus scans did you run and what, if anything, did they find. Please post the logs.

I would strongly recommend you do not use any Registry Cleaners as they often cause more problems than they fix. They can also make Malware detection and clean up more difficult.

What we really need to see is the crash dumps so they can be analyzed.

Have you checked the system is not overheating, have you cleaned out the cooling fan and the exhaust?

Please follow this small guide to attach your minidump files so they can be analysed.
First locate your minidump files, open Windows Explorer and click on the C: drive in the left pane, in the right pane look down the list of folders and double click on Windows to view its contents. NOTE: If your operating system is installed under a different drive letter then look there. Scroll down the contents of the Windows folder and look for a folder called minidump and double click on it. You should now see the minidump files which will have a .dmp extension.

Zip up at least 6 of the most recent files into one zip folder (if there are less then just zip up what you have).
NOTE: To zip up the files in Windows (all versions). Right click the file, click on Send To, and then click
Compressed (zipped) Folder. That will create a zip folder containing a copy of the file, you should see it appear.

If there is more than one .dmp file click on the first one, hold down the shift key and then click on the last one. That should highlight all the files. ... Read more

I had a self-induced computer crash with a new Lenovo x120e and am trying to restore my system. The Lenovo Operating System Recovery Disk did nothing (went to Restore and Recovery and then crashed) but fortunately someone recommended getting a Windows 7 recovery disk from NeoSoft (for $10).  That at least allows me to get to Windows System Restore!  Now the problem is that System Restore can't find my operating system, and asks me to load drivers. I have no idea what drivers to load!  There is a DVD with drivers...but as this computer has no DVD that isn't terribly useful to me.   I did find a folder drivers when I ended the command line prompt through System Recovery...but still at at a lost for what drivers to install.   Can anybody help here?  Thanks.

I have had problem with audio misbehaving (crackling or even lagging/muting for few seconds) for some time now. The longer the computer runs, the more often this gets.

I used to have way less problems before, maybe before clean reinstall from 8.0 32bit to 8.1 64bit. I used to be able to run computer for over 40 days, now it acts up after a week or even earlier.

My system:
Lenovo R500 2714-7TG (bought in early 2009, running almost all the time since)
OS Win 8.1 Pro 64bit (legally from DreamSpark)
CPU Intel Core2 Duo T5870
RAM 2 * 2GB (that's why I switched to 64bit system, plus I reckoned incompatibility issues would be worked out by now)
Integrated graphics: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family
Integrated sound card: Conexant 20561 SmartAudio HD

The problem is noticeable in every program using sound, including VLC player, Winamp, Flash in Chrome, or games like GTA San Andreas. That's why I think it's a hardware or system issue.

In attached screenshot the crackling occurred at the second CPU peak (under 30% CPU utilization) with Winamp playing MP3s from drive D: (C: is SSD, D: is regular SATA 2.5" HDD in expansion bay - instead of optical drive - and Disk 3 is USB-connected external 3.5" HDD) and no other program actively running. Hello.

I am not sure if I am in the correct section, but I am trying my luck anyway.

Let me try to recap :

I was playing WoW on my lovely computer.

Then it crashed horribly. Freeze with stuttering sound loop. Then black screen, then "No signal". Computer still running, so I reboot manually.

Windows 7 failed to launch properly. I try to repair. Failed.

I try to make sure that the correct partition is active through command line, because the partition that seems to be used is not the usual C:, it still fail to miserably. ( I may have ****ed something up doing this ).

Then after hours, I manage to create a bootable USB, and I try to repair from it, still failed, but with some added text :

Repair details :
The following startup option will be repaired:

A copy of the current boot configuration data will be saved as: C:\Boot\BCD.Backup.0002

Which made me all happy and hopeful before it popped an error window with this :

Hi, over the weekend I updated my video card drivers to the most recent version and since then my system would crash after I play a game of Dota or whatever. If I left the computer running without running any games it would perform fine and not crash. Sometimes it would give me a BSOD but more often than not my computer would simply turn off and then restart. There were no dump file created nor where there any events logged other than:

"Session "Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error: 0xC000000D"
and
"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first..."

I ran a Memtest86+ and I have no errors and I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 so I'm pretty sure that it is due to my video card drivers.

But the problem now is that the system crashes even after I did a system restore and after I completely reinstalled my drivers to a much much earlier version (like a year and a half old driver).
System specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Intel i5
Gigabyte P55M-UD2
ATI Radeon 4800
Microsoft Security Essentials

Answer:ntoskrnl.exe causes system to restart after driver update

You had one Verifier enabled crash that points to your Human Interface Devices (HIDs). This could mean an issue with Bluetooth, USB devices, a gaming keyboard, or a gaming mouse. It could also be a false positive if Verifier was not enabled with the correct steps. For the time being, disable Verifier: Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click Command Prompt -> Run as administrator -> Type the following command and then Enter:verifier /reset-> Restart your computer.
Your other two crashes point to memory problems or drivers. Since you suspect this is related to the graphics drivers, try installing them without AMD Catalyst Control Center/AMD Vision Engine Control Center:Download the version of ATI drivers that you want to install, and then do the following steps.Start the installation program to install your drivers and ATI software. When you get to the option to Express/Custom install, cancel the installation. Your drivers should now exist in C:\AMD\Support\xx-x_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc where the x's replace your version number of the driver software.
Uninstall all AMD software related to your graphics card by uninstalling AMD Catalyst Install Manager in Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Uninstall a program
If AMD Catalyst Install Manager is not listed, use the following method to uninstall the graphics drivers:Click Start Menu
Right Click My Computer/Computer
Click Manage

Hi All, I am trying to update IBM Update Connector to System Update on my A30 2651 3WG I have tried uninstalling System update and reinstalling it several times but each time I get the message:- System Update could not start properly  After I uninstall System Update when I run systemupdate314-2009-6-12.exe to load system update it detects a version of IBM Update Connector or System Update and offers to delete it.  However an error occurs  and  I am told to delete the files manually. Can anyone suggest where these files might be or if there is some other problem. Regards Roger

Answer:System Update failed to start

Roger, welcome to the forum,

As the Update Connector doesn't show up in Control Panel - Software, run the SetUp file in C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\Updater, it should offer you the option of uninstalling it.

Hope this helps

Various computers (Win 10 Home and Pro, all 64 bit) have had updates that failed but then the system claims the system is up-to-date. Sometimes in days, sometimes in weeks, the system finally agrees with itself and performs the update. I have never been able to force them without manually downloading the udpate using the KB #.

On an as-needed computer the latest update from 1703 to 1709 has no KB # to look up. For the past week the computer has been left running. It has been manually restarted and shutdown/restart. However, checks for updates continue to claim it is up-to-date.

Since the updates are forced on us there must be a way to force an update when we want it!

Any suggestions?

I have a lenovo T410 running W7 (2516CTO).  My issue involves updating drivers.  When I run "system update" it identifies several optional drivers which need updating.- Wireless WAN- Wimax for Kilmer Peak- Wifi for Kilmer Peak- Conexant Audio SoftwareI've tried to install these several times with no luck.  The result is always that I loose all internet connectivity (first three) and audio (last one).  In addition, my system becomes unstable and "system restore" doesn't work either.  I have been forced to use "rescue and recovery" from my external harddrive to reinstate a saved working operating system.  I think the wireless wan update tries to install the Qualcomm Gobi 2000.  Each time I've tried to install it, upon reboot the system searchs for an appropriate driver, seems to find it, but fails in its attempt to install it.  I've even tried to manually install the drivers by following the instruction on the lenovo site.  The program runs, but each time it tells me that windows failed to install the necessary driver.  Could anyone help me with these problems?  My default action right now is just to ignore these optional updates. Many thanks.

You need to find the motherboard or audio card manufacturers site - they will provide drivers for the setup you have.

I have just update the operating system (win xp home to win xp pro sp2) on a satellite L20 - 197 and I realized that I have no drivers CD or the laptop. In hardware devices (control panel) the following items are marked with problems: Audio controller, PCI modem controller, SM Bus controller and Video controller.
Does somebody know what should I do or where can I find those drivers?

What I found on the Toshiba site didn't help me. Really I have installed many times win XP pro sp2, but I never have problems with driver. Can somebody tell me where I can find in the internet the driver for all this devices??
Thanks a lot.

Answer:L20-197: Need drivers for audio, video, after update to Win XP Pro SP2

Hello Volker

The driver for WXP Home and Pro are absolutely the same. All drivers that you can find on http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp you can use but please install them in right order.

Pleas do it follow this document http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/Satellite/sl20/win-xp/install-xp-na-en.zip

Good luck!

Answer:Why did my audio drivers messed up after the update

What is the make and model# of your computer/motherboard?
Go to the manufacturers support/download drivers site, type in your model#, choose your version of Windows (ie) 32bit or 64bit and download the audio driver for your model.
