Solved: Edge 11 AMD K325 - Battery Problem need Battery Firmware update?

Question: Solved: Edge 11 AMD K325 - Battery Problem need Battery Firmware update?

Hi i have theEdge11 K3252545-A12 modelwith Battery 57wh model no : 42T4897 The Battery Monitor showing only 47.5wh overall capacity. This seems to be the same problem like the edge13 series. For these devices there is a battery firmware update but not for my battery.Again i know that batterys are getting worse after cycles but this seems to be bug because:1) the battery is 2 weeks old2) the battery shows in the energy manager as 47wh battery and not 57 battery. So the battery manager says "good" and no battery wastage. Does Lenovo provide the upgrade also for my device and battery? see the links: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-75738 http://www.lenovoblogs.com/connections/2010/08/update-bios-and-battery-firmware-to-ensure-full-charg...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Solved: Edge 11 AMD K325 - Battery Problem need Battery Firmware update?

Hello mate, You don't have a problem with your battery. My T510 indicates the same with a 57wh. Under average usage patterns your ThinkPad battery maintains approximately 70% of its power capacity for the first year of operation. Average usage is defined as the number of recharge cycles. A cycle is defined as each time the battery discharges a total of 85% or more and is recharged it counts as one cycle.

Answer:ThinkPad Edge 13 - Battery Firmware update not working

Hi and welcome to the forum!

You need to have latest BIOS version (which is 1.20 6ZET...) and Power Management driver.

See below text:

"Lenovo has bundled the necessary dependencies and the battery firmware update into a common package. Customers who prefer to download a single file may download the appropriate package for their type of system. These "dependency wrapper" programs have the following basic procedure:

Check the Power Management driver version. Update if necesesary.
Get the current BIOS and embedded controller version.* This requires another driver, the Lenovo System Interface driver. If this driver is not present, version 1.02 (81vu13ww) will be installed. This driver is part of the "Hotkey Features Integration" package, but only the System Interface driver is installed.
If necessary, update BIOS to the minimum version supporting battery firmware update. A system reboot is required if the BIOS is updated. The battery firmware update will automatically continue after rebooting.
Update the battery firmware. A system shutdown is required after the battery firmware update. The system will not automatically turn back on after being shut down.

Please click here for more detailed operation of the dependency wrapper programs."

Hope this helps.

Hi All, I foolishly ran the Lenovo software update tool and one of the updates that installed was battery firmware v1.13. The update failed part way through and ever since my battery is having an existential crisis - I know it's plugged in and 100% charged but it reads 0% (or sometimes a red X) and the machine shuts down when AC power is removed. Being out of warranty the phone line people just keep trying to sell me a new battery and have no ideas on how to fix the existing one. I've tried the firmware update multiple times but with no joy. Also tried sourcing previous versions of the firmware which doesn't work. My battery was not one of those listed for recall. Latest and best suggestion was that it may be a motherboard issue and I could confirm by plugging in a different battery to see if it works - with absolutely no suggestion who would let me borrow their battery and plug it into my possibly killer machine. Has anyone else had a similar problem and found a fix? Is anyone based in Perth, Western Australia and want to let me experiment with their battery? {you crazy fool!} Does anyone know how to contact an actual Lenovo person rather than the useless call centre (1800 041 267 from Australia, seemingly connecting to Malaysia or Thailand judging by the accents)? Consumer law in Australia would suggest these guys owe me a new battery regardless of warranty status but I don't know how I can force the issue if I can't even speak to them???&... Answer:Thinkpad Edge E420 Battery dead after firmware update 1.13

This happened to me today. The solution is to restart the computer and enter the BIOS.  Then use the arrow keys to move to the config tab, then down to the power option, hit enter, scroll down to the disable built-in battery, hit enter, then follow dirctions on the right.  You will unplug the power cord to shut down the computer and when you plug it back in and turn it back on the battery will be recognized.  if not , try the process again as it took me two tries.  hope this helps.

Hi all,

After installing of Battery Firmware Update my brand new battery not recognized by notebook anymore.
It is completely dead.  I am fully upsert.

So, people, do not use this app if everything is fine. Application is not stable.

Seems like internal battery memory was corrupted due to flashing interruption.
I assumed the root cause is internal software error.

I've tried the same on Windows 7/8/XP with all LnvBFU revisions (from v1.2 till v1.15) without any success.

But LnvBFU.exe still recognizes the battery, it still able to start flashing.
And I still have hope to install battery software correctly.

Dear Lenovo experts:
1. Please provide steps to correct this error.
2. Please advise how can I get logs of LnvBFU to figure out what's wrong.
3. Please fix this issue in the next LnvBFU revision.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Battery Firmware Update has killed Brand New E420 battery

Hi, I have a comparable problem over here. Got a brand new Lenovo Yoga 260 three weeks ago, worked completely fine until last wednesday. Processed some lenovo updates including Lenovo Solution Centre and Power Management and now my battery is dead. Everytime i turn on my Yoga 260 i get a battery error message after a few minutes that says the battery is not charging and it should be replaced due to a bad condition. When i open up Lenovo Settings and search for energymanagement it displays the same message telling me the battery is defect due to normal wear and it should be replaced. My problem is that the battery worked completely fine until the moment i installed some Lenovo software updates. I hope lenovo support can provide steps to correct this error instead of forcing me to return it and wait 2 -3 weeks. Thanks in advance.

I have a ThinkPad Edge 520, which I purchased with the higher capacity battery (42T4710). Recently when attempting to update the battery firmware, using the LenovoBatteryFirmwareUpdate  v1.13 it detects new firmware for the battery: Identifies the firmware: But then fails: Upon restarting the computer I get informed that the battery is invalid and will not be charged by the laptop. I have tried numerous combinations of updates (BIOS, power management driver, etc.), without any effect. Prior to this attempted update the battery worked fine. Appreciate any assistance.

My battery will not charge, at all.  The guage was obviously not correct as it would drop very quickly after reaching 20% so I updated the Power Manager to 6.07 and then performed a battery reset (I am pretty sure it was in this order, may have been the reset first). After the reset the battery charged back up to 100% but as it discharged, the charger did not come back on.  With the power in, the battery just sits at the same percentage and very slowly goes down (~1% in two days).   I tried playing with the battery maintenance settings, the meter then says that charging will begin below 80% but the battery is already on 20%.  I checked the firmware in Power Manager and with the standalone program but apparently no update is needed and the part number FRU 42T4755 is not listed as needing an update. Current firmware version: 0004-3f98-0160-0130 I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Power Manager.  The windows power manager  also seems to have the same problem. I only baught the laptop last year, it is one month out of warranty; I need it to be portable for work.I thought about buying a new battery but it seems to be the charging function that is not working, and the battery was working fine before the reset and update, apart from losing some capacity and the inaccurate meter. Product: 0578CTO    Thinkpad Edge 14 Bios: 80ET61WW (2.01) Any help would be greatly appreciated.Nathan19% an... Hi, I suddenly encountered a battery problem in my laptop, IdeaPad Y510P. It seems like other folks have the same problem in Ideapad series.   When I plug in a charger, the laptop shows that battery is charing but, it never goes above 7% (w/ max battery life mode). According to Energy Management, battery status is fine.  After searching similar issues, I think it may be a problem with firmware, but I was not able to find a firmware update for IdeaPad series, Windows 8.1.... I have been using my laptop over a year, but never had this problem before. Can you please guide me through how to fix this issue?  Thanks for your help..!

After that reboot and install it back and see if there is a difference specially on the battery status. Also basing on your statement that the unit is with you for more than a year and you have not encountered any problem except recently it would seem that a battery replacement might be in order. Again before jumping into conclusion check the ac adapter and battery based on the procedure given in your hardware maintenance manual.

Hi all,About a week ago I updated the battery firmware on my Thinkpad Edge 13.A few days later, battery started acting crazy, and the next I know, It just died.Up until that update It could still take about 5 hours on battery, but now It's gone to 0 percent and won't charge at all.Power Manager says it "has failed due to normal wear", but that does not seem very normal to me!This is a genuine Thinkpad Battery 73+, model is 42T4858, was 42t4814 before the firmware update. Is there any way to flash the old firmware back? Does anyone has the file for it, or know where I can get it? Any help will be very appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:Edge 13 Battery Firmware

Hi Mosheke,

Welcome to the community.

As per your concern battery is not charging,  If your battery has much lesser capacity or does not charge at certain level any longer, you may want to perform a gauge reset on the battery.

Double-click the green "Power Manager" battery icon near the Windows' system clock, usually at the lower-right corner of the screen. If you cannot find this icon, click "Start," "All Programs," "Access IBM" and "Power Manager."Click the "Battery Information" tab at the top.Click "Battery Maintenance."Click "Perform Reset," and then click "Continue" on the confirmation dialog box. This procedure will take more time to complete, and you should not use your ThinkPad during that time. You will be prompted when the battery reset is complete.

Note: make sure AC adapter plug in when performing gauge reset.

Afterwards, please check whether the issue get resolved.

Regards,
Sameer

Hey.. so I just bought a surface 2.. like new but the battery has a red x and will not charge. I've tried cleaning contacts, uninstalled battery in device manager and most other things. I feel like if I could get the system firmware update it may solve the problem and I can force the windows updates by uninstalling the battery.. when it reboots to install the firmware it show the surface logo and the "please wait while updating" it almost instantly reboots and goes back into windows. Any ideas here? Also is the battery difficult to replace? $16 on Ebay and I may give it a shot.

Hey, I own a Thinkpad E220 (5380-CTO) and the "Lenovo Thinkpad Toolbox" gives me daily alerts that I have a "critical battery issue". Please help, the daily scans eat up RAM and it's annoying that I have to cancel it daily. The battery, from what I can tell, works otherwise. Thanks!

Answer:Ideapad Z-500 - Battery firmware updated but still battery not charging

hi Aledef,

If you have the Lenovo Energy Management installed, can you check the following:

1. For Windows 7:
Ensure that Maximum Battery Life is selected

For Windows 8:
Ensure that Conservation Mode is disabled.

2. Uninstall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method under the Device Manager > Battery
   - Link to picture

When finished, reboot the machine and observe if the battery is now charing above 59%. If the problem remains, try charging the battery while the computer (about 30mins) and see if it goes pass the 59% mark.

If the problem persists, I recommend you contact lenovo on how to go about getting a replacement battery.

I hope this information and my experience could be also helpfull to remember others to charge your battery once in a while ... Read more

The Thinkvantage Toolbox is reporting that the battery is not holding charge (down to 32%).  It is less than a year old and has been configured for maximum battery life.  The warranty link brings up a firmware update that won't install successfully.  I've tried the full package, and doing one part at a time.  It always detects the battery, goes to the writing the firmware stage, goes directly to the second try writing n/1334 (I think that's the number) and then fails.  I've let it reboot and try again with the same result. The product is ThinkPad SL510, product id 28479YU, Bios version 6JET85WW(1.43). Any suggestions on how to proceed?  I've seen other posts that suggest that it may be a defective battery, but nothing on how to confirm that. Thanks, Andrew

Hello! I have an x250 notebook.Capacity of my internal battery flows down. Some time i opened lenovo power manager and checked battery. Internal battery is full charged with 12,18V, but external battery is full charged with 12.68V.It is very strange for me. As i know there is no li-ion battery with <4.2V full charge.I recalibrated the battery, no changes.Ok, It is possible that one li-ion battery has lower voltage then other two ones. I checked the voltage - 4.07. 4.07, 4.05 it is great result!Batteries are not charged fully, so capacity is lower then it should be. I found battery FW update for some lenovo notebooks, but i didn't find it for x250.Can you help me?

The download page for this update is up since a few days but there is no download available: http://support.lenovo.com/fr/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-edge-laptops/thinkpad-e555/do... And when you switch to another language like German or French the older version 1.14 is offered as downlaod. These bugs in your driver download section happen a lot, please fix them!

My X230 with 6 cell 44+ battery was working good. Earlier this week, lenovo system update suggested a battery firmware update and I clicked and updated. After the update, the battery is completely dead. Don't understand how this can happen. Anybody has any ideas? This is the original battery and has been working good and still holds about 2 hours charges before its sudden death.

I tried to install a battery  update on my Lenovo T520.  The update fails with an "internal error" message being reported.  The battery does not fully charge and now lasts only a few minutes once the charger is unplugged.  The battery is a Lenovo replacement less then a year old.

Hi, I recently factory reset my E520 to have it working like new again. That all went fine, but then when downloading and installing the various Lenovo updates I found the battery firmware update. It was in the middle of installing when the laptop powered off (I think because another update "X64 patch update" had finished installing and so wanted to restart the laptop). Now when I turn my laptop on it says "Lenovo doens't recognies third party batteries etc etc" and it won't even charge or work off the battery - Laptop only works of AC now. What can I do? Thanks

Answer:Battery Firmware Update has killed Brand New E420 ...

Hi, I have Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E330. few months ago I have got a few messages like "Battery Error" (I don't remember the exact text). From that time nothing changed with battery run time, if I remember well. However ,after some time the battery suddenly went from 5ish hours run time to one hour or less. I would guess the problem could be something like this https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht001086 but I haven't find any reliable tool from Lenovo to check the battery. Lenovo solution displays "Health: Fair" in the battery status tab. I have also tried to update battery firmware (http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds001322), but it didn't help. My Notebook is still in warranty. Is there any solution for this problem, or should I try reclamation? ThanksJan

I recently bought a Lenovo Thinkpad X220. However, after only 1 week use, i receive the error "The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery." In particular the battery meter indicates 48%, however when I remove the a/c the laptop immediately shut downs. The problem occured after only 3 charging cycles, when i upgraded the firmware to the 1.19 version and installed the lenovo's power management software. However, i cannot correlate the 2 events for sure. I tried to get back to a previous version, re-install (or remove) the power management software, however the problem persists. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Dear Lenovo, After perusing the recent 2016/2017 comments by multiple users on similar posts about Ideapad Z510 battery from across locations/countries - it appears that the firmware that you had issued last year - has somehow got overwritten / superceded maybe in either late 2016  or early 2017 by some more recent/latest updates. I am writing from India and facing the same probem that the battery is showing 100% and then going off almost immediately. This probem had fortunately got solved last year when you had issued a firmware update - but now when i am trying to use the same files again - it basically conveys that "no battery available to update" because that particular firmware is already applied on our laptop. Hence, can you please release newer firmware update for this same issue -  using a z510 system having current till-date updates for different OS - win 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 - same way as you have released for thinkpad series of laptops too on the weblink - http://support.lenovo.com/in/en/downloads/ds001322 Come to think of it - that if a fully working battery is being "prompted" as weak and "need to buy" - but actually is a fully functioning hardware - isnt it a bit of a letdown for your users??? - what to say of  some who might have already bought and replaced with newer replacement batteries - which is actually a completely avoidable cost? I am sure you need to resolve this issue soon so as to restore c... Read more

If you feel that the battery backup is too low, try doing a battery firmware upgrade. Check the Lenovo support site for any battery firmware updates for your particular model.

Refer this knowledgebase which explains some tips to improve battery backup. From the power manager snapshot you have posted, it looks like the battery is performing fine.

Hope this helps!

Hi, i am starting to be desperate, therefore i registered myself here. Let me explain my story. My computer is now almost 2 years old and I have less than 14 days till the warranty expires (I am from Europe), but I'd like to avaid this, because i really need my computer now, not after 30 days, which is by law designated time till which it must be returned to me back. I did not have to use my computer outside home for about 3 month, so I was using that during that period as desktop computer, where i set in lenovo power manager, that all energy should be taken from the AC adaptor letting the battery to deplete itself in its own pace. But i have taken my computer to the libraries lately and i have experienced sudden battery problems. Let me describe them in order as it happened. 1) battery shows that that it has more than lets say 20% of power, but windows power manager warns me that battery capacity is in reality 6% and i need to use my AC adaptor now. after second even lenovo power manager recognize the fact that battery is almost depleted. first i did not pay attention, i thought it was some temporary bug and it will not be repeated again. 2) unfortunatelly it was, therefore i updated lenovo power manager to current version (6.11), which realized that current battery capacity was not 54Wh (as before update), but 47Wh. Therefore I resetted battery gauge statting that battery capacity is now slightly over 51Wh. For couple of days everything was as it should ... Read more

Answer:ThinkPad Edge 13" sudden BATTERY problem

After todays restart original baterry capacity is restored back to 62+Wh, But current capacity is still 54Wh, higher than after last battery reset. I am upgrading to higher version of Power Manager.

Hi...I have E130 with 0% battery (can't be charged anymore). I have bought a new battery but can't use. When I plugged it (with a power source plugged as well), and I try to to turn it on, it worked. But not so long after the windows logon screen displayed (I use Windows 7), then it turn off again and cannot turn on anymore, unless I unplug the power outlet first. I try to changed with the old battery again and there's no problem (with the power source plugged, of course). I try to update the BIOS, but since my battery level is 0%) it cannot be done (always rejected). Is there anyone can help to solve my problem, please? Thanks.

Hello Guys, Since I couldn't find any solution for my problem, I decided to write here, hoping that someone (either from team Lenovo or from the users) have the same problem and therefore can help me. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13 model (version 0217). (I bought it from a friend, since it was not shipped anymore when I decided to buy it.)I have problems with my battery. The design capacity of it is 62.12 Wh, I used it wisely, so it wasn't always charged up to 100%. I always discharge it down around 5-7% and then plug in the AC adapter. (See image.)  My first problem is that in the last 3 months, the capacity is gone down to 45.88 Wh and I can't really figure out why. Can this be a generic problem with the battery? My second problem is - for which I've found another topic here but it didn't help me - that when I charge the battery, charging stops at 99%, showing "3 minutes is remaining" and if I unplug and replug the adapter, it stops as 99% saying it is fully charged. In the battery maintenance, I changed the settings from "Always fully charge" to Custom, but still, it won't charge up the battery fully.  My third problem is that I updated the BIOS of my laptop some days ago and when I try to search for a battery firmware update or when I do a battery gauge reset, the system suddenly shuts down without any warning or whatever. I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this, I really love my laptop but it really bugs me..... Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 13 (0217) battery problem

1) Battery do wear out eventually, you already have 234 cycles on the battery. So the battery capacity drop in the latter part of the cycles count is quite normal. It is nature of these battery to wear out. 2) For thinkpads, this behaviour is quite normal, this helps to prevent unnecessary wear on the battery cell. Once you use your battery back to say 95% or so, it will recharge back to 100%. 3) Are you saying that your laptop no longer works or that it intermittently shuts down?

Hi all! As written in the topic I have a huge problem with the run-on-battery-management of my X301-System + Windows 7 SP1. I replaced the optical drive with a secondary battery (ultrabay). Both batteries were identified by the system and charged to 100%.But when I run the system on battery, the system only uses the second battery. So if it runs down, the system turns into suspend/hibernate mode even if the primary battery is charged to 100%.Why doesn't the system switch automatically to the primary battery, when the second one is empty? As long as the second battery is down, the system also won't start/resume from the suspend/hibernate mode. Does anyone know this problem? Is there a known solution for that problem? I've had the Y480 since May 2012 and I've always had issues with the battery draining incredibly quickly.  As in, the battery would drain almost completely in less than an hour.  I noticed today that in PC Wizard (and also in BatteryCare) the designed battery capacity is listed as 3888mWh.  Isn't the Y480 battery designed to be 48Wh?  In that case my battery has less than a tenth of that!  What's wrong here?  Thanks.

Answer:Y480 battery drain problem, discovered something strange about battery detection

hi goth_bacon,

The Lenovo Y480 can either have a Lithium Ion 6-cell, 48Wh or 62Wh battery as stated in this pdf data sheet. If yours came with the 48 Watt hour, the 3888mWh reading that you get is in milli watt hour which can be converted to 38.88 Watt hour as per this convertion table which still is pretty low.

If you play games, getting 1hr on a fully charged the battery is normal but if you just surf the web on a balanced or power saving battery profile, you may need to contact lenovo on how to get your battery replaced.as the cells on battery maybe starting to wear out.

Hope this helps.

Suddenly battery icon in my laptop started showing " There is a problem with your battery so your computer might shut down suddenly" .

Any idea why this has happened and what should i do?

What would be the price of new battery in USD?

Answer:Problem with Satellite A300 battery - battery icon shows error

Guest what: it?s the first time that I?m reading about such issue...
Of course I read many messages abut battery issues but I have never ever seen an error notification by battery icon.

You could try to recalibrate the battery.
Discharge the battery completely. Then recharge it to 100%. Repeat this twice!
Then check how the notebook works.

But you should know that sooner or later your battery would die and you would need to replace the battery.
You can get a 6 cell PA3534U-1BAS/BRS battery for about 70-90 Euros?

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Do you have any information on how this fixes the battery problem? would be interested to know.

My battery (FRU: 42t4957) is stuck at 2% and refuses to charge:I kept it at 40-50% most of the time by changing battery threshold. Total cycle count was about 80 (84 now) first use date 2013-03.On Saturday I tried to run a "discharge-charge-discharge-charge" cycle (by watching some movies) to reset the gauge of my battery. During 2nd discharge my laptop hibernated due to low charge much earlier than expected, when I turned it on it showed that the max capacity is 28 Wh and the battery is in the "poor" condition.I tried to perform automatic gauge reset but didn't get much (29 Wh). I updated power manager and performed another automatic reset which failed too.So I tried to make a manual reset and left my laptop paying a movie for a night. On Monday I plugged my AC adapter in but found out that the battery won't charge: "a battery error has occurred the battery cannot be charged".I cleared residual capacitance by pushing the power button several times and reset the BIOS to defaults but got nothing. If this problem can't be sold I would like to know the reason of it to avoid such things in the future. While googling this forum I met contradictory opinions on battery reset: ones say that it's extremely harmful because battery "doesn't like" to be discharged to 0%, others say its harmless.

Yeasterday day I performed Battery gauge reset. After full discharge of battery my laptop turned off. I was unable to turn on. I removed battery, DVD room etc after doing many things don't know how I was able to turn on the laptop.  From today I am facing another problem. When I switch the Battery mode from Maximum to Optimize or vice versa my Laptop stops charging the battery and Laptop is turning off after discharge of full battery. I do same things after doing these things many time I become able to turn on laptop back. Now again my laptop is not charging battery because I changed the mode. Any Idea how to fix this issue? Is there any easy way to enable charging and disable charging? Like Dell utility? My OS details.: Windows 8.1 Pro

My L755 has always struggled with battery life. From new, it was only managing a little over one hour and it was no surprise when it booted up one day with an ugly red cross over the battery and a suggestion that I might like to consider replacing the battery.

I went to Amazon and bought a 'genuine brand new Toshiba battery'.
The battery arrived, it is the right part number, but I was immediately suspicious because the battery had stickers on it that did not seem correct and a manufacturing date in 2010.

The sticker that bothered me most stated that it might contain NiCad, NiMH or Li-Ion cells -
I am sure that Toshiba are more professional than to randomly build the packs.

Sure enough, when fitted to the laptop I get a flashing battery light and it shows no interest in booting up. Should I give it a few hours to charge and try again, or go straight to Trading Standards to try and get the cowboy supplier investigated?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite L755 - Battery Problem - Suspect phoney battery

Hi

Notebook should be able to boot up also if the battery is empty but connected to the AC adaptor.
If the battery is new, you should consider an longer charging. But as mentioned: even if its empty, the unit should power on and the battery should start to charge after the AC adaptor has been connected.

From my point of view and according to your message, it looks like the battery isn?t ok.
So would recommend to replace it.

By the way: I would recommend purchasing the battery from authorized Toshiba service partner in your country. In such case you can be 100% sure that such battery is an genuine product and compatible with your notebook. Many different internet reseller provide ?low budget? and ?low quality? batteries and sell such batteries as an ?brand-name? product / article.

It's so strange. Today when I turned on my laptop, suddenly, there was a message that my battery has problems so the computer might shut down suddenly. I tried different strategies, like uninstalling the battery driver, or letting the computer completely die. When it turned off itself at 6%, I turned it back on, and it was at 2 minutes battery life. Then in a few minutes, it said 4 minutes battery life for 6%. Now, it's passed an hour, and it says 3 minutes, but changes sometimes to 1-4 minutes. The battery meter is completely wrong, and I don't know what to do since it is closing the computer way too early. I'm still not sure what the problem is. Please help me.

How long have you been using the laptop with battery? Is it still under warranty?

Hi, I have a T430s with a defective battery -- its a known problem where the batteries "indicate an incorrect full charge capacity value".  The result is that the laptop shuts down when the battery isn't empty.  Currently, mine shuts down when the charge gets down to 30%. There is a firmware updater -- but it only works on Windows (e.g. there is not bootable CD you can use).  I have (only) Linux installed, so I can't use this.  After shuttling me around between different support services, they told me that they can't help because (a) the laptop is under warranty, but (b) the battery is no longer under warranty.  They also couldn't tell me which battery parts do not have this problem. I tried "hiren's boot cd", which has a "mini XP" that runs from memory.  I tried to run the firmware update tool from this XP, but it refuses to do anything :-(  Its unclear which version of windows will even run the firmware updater! Does anyone know of any way I could update the battery firmware? -BenRI

Answer:Fix battery firmware for T430s under Linux?

You can try using the Windows Preinstallation Environment; it helps me upgrading the management engine on both my T430s and my X201. Remember that upgrading the battery firmware requires not only the firmware updater but also the power management driver.

When running on the battery, at the start it suggests some 3 hours of life with 100%, but after less than an hour the system suddenly goes into standby.

I get no "low level" warning any more. The Toshiba Power Saver actions are set up to alarm at 20% and go to standby at 10%. This matches the settings under control panel / power options.
I tried a new battery but the symptoms are exactly the same.

Any ideas?

Answer:Tecra M2 - battery meter/ battery life problem

Nothing immediately springs to mind, but I have a few questions which may help to elicit more information:

- Do you need to plug the M2 in to the charger to make it come out of Standby?
- What happens when you come out of Standby? Does it indicate near 0% of some other value?
- Does it recover from Standby or has it lost any BIOS settings (e.g.) wrong timedate?

Might be worth checking to see if you did anything prior to the problem which may be a factor.

For my T61 i bought an extended battery but after charging/recharging the battery lasts only 2 hours maximum. When i try the same battery on my colleague his T61 it shows 5 hours. I have done everything possible to solve the issue; updated software, powered down some energy consuming devices on the laptop and looked on the internet for solutions but so far unable to solve the problem. The other thing is that my laptop warms up to 65C and so gets pretty warm. Anyone any suggestions? Thanks,Jim

Answer:T61 battery problem extended battery only lasts for 2 hours what to do?

it is probably to do with power management....... and the high temperature is suggesting high CPU usage.... What background processes are running? Also does the battery lasts the same under performance and battery mode? Have you done a reformating of the laptop hdd (by recovering to the factory reinstall) recently???? I have seen a problem like this crawl up once in my T61 due to a virus/malware, but i don't know whether that is also the cause of your problem.

I am new at this stuff and I seek help from all those who can give it. Ok so my first charger stopped working and I bought a new charger. The charger worked great for a few months after purchase. Until one day the charger stopped charging on and off. I unplugged it a few times and then it stopped working. I let the battery die after. I am guessing that it stopped working because i may have screwed up the charger socket by tripping on the cord thus pulling on it im not really sure anymore. The laptop is in a bad condition, it's four years old i think but it can still run. The battery is the same not change. HELP ME for I am an *****

I've set the Battery 1 (Main battery) thresholds to 45%~90%, which works very well. Below 45%, start charging, battery level to 90%, stop charging. But I also set the Battery 2 (Keyboard battery) thresholds,(50%~95%) it doesn't work. It will always start charging when battery level below 96% and stop at full. The thresholds is not working. My Helix is running Windows 8.1 with all the newest drivers and necessory software supplied by Lenovo. And after installed the Settings Dependency Package and Power Management Driver, I installed the previous version of Power Manager 6.64.2 in order to set the thresholds. SO, HOW TO SOLVE THE THRESHOLDS-NOT-WORKING ON BATTREY 2?

I have some T60 battery's here that cannot be charged. At the moment i have 5. One of those has just a cycle count of 51. The others have a cycle count of 113, 346, 481 and the last one sais "No battery installed". All those are between one and two years old. Is this normal for the T60 series that the battary dies that quick?  I've allready looked for the replacement program, but none of those battery's is in that range for replacement. I think the problem is that the laptop's where on stock for a month or 2 and they didn't removed the battery before placing it in stock. What can i do?

Answer:T60 - A battery error has occured. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery.

Hi Roman78, Wlcome to the forum! If the batteries do not fall under the recall you will have to buy some new ones. Most T60 batteries last a long time but some do die early. It happened to me too.Make sure from now on that the batteries are removed before going into storage. Running batteries completely dead is hard on them and there is always a little draw when they are connected.

I have a T61, bought 10/07.  I got this message out of the blue after i unplugged my laptop and it shut itself off.  Only turns back on when plugged in.  The orange battery light is flashing despite it saying the battery is fully charged, i called lenovo and they said i need to purchace a new battery, since the 1 year warranty exprired just over one month ago (convenient for them).  I have searched and found that this is not a new problem with lenovo and that 2 sets of recalls on the t60 battery occured recently, but mine apparently does not quailfy for recall (already checked).   The battery info says its a sanyo battery with poor quality, 44 cycles, first used 10/07.I'm kind of peeved that i'm being told i need to buy a $115 battery just over a year after getting this computer, and believe lenovo should step up for clearly something being wrong with their system as i'm in good company of others with this problem. anyone have any ideas?  do i really need to purchase a new battery??thanks for any help

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:[W520] How I know Battery Firmware version and downgrade

If you attach the AC adapter when the battery is at 49%, then it will not charge because it is not below 46%. This is the intended behavior. If the system is charging and discharging between 46% and 50% while plugged in, then this causes extra wear to the battery.

Hi

I recently replaced the BIOS battery in my 8 year old PC, which I pulled out the garage after 2 years. When I first switched it on I got the warning - no big surprise given the age of the PC. I did ask how fresh the battery stock was when I bought the new battery, and was assured it should be fine.

Having replaced the battery I'm still getting the message about low battery voltage. I think it unlikely the new battery is faulty (but have no way to check it)...any ideas?

The PC is a Dell Dimension 8300 running latest SP of XP if that helps

Thanks

Rick

Answer:[SOLVED] low battery voltage warning - new battery!

Googling 'Dell Dimension 8300 low cmos battery voltage warning' gets some historical (and hysterical in some cases) anecdotes about this issue.

I'd suggest you power off, pull plug, press and hold the power button for 3 seconds, open case, pull cmos battery, clean cmos battery socket with a q-tip and some isopropyl (a SMALL amount), allow to dry, wipe battery contact surfaces CLEAN, reinsert battery, close case, plug it in and power up.

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z400 that was bought in 1st-2nd week of May, 2013. I have a problem that started on May 21, 2013, my laptop battery suddenly drops from 25% to 6%. I've read some posts that it requires firmware update to work normally.. This is the site

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035310

Is there any steps needed while performing this Upgrade? Is it safe? Will it fix my problem?  By the way, I'm here in Philippines and the Ideapad Z400 was bought by my uncle somewhere in Saudi Arabia, and he delivered it to me when he got back here. I started using the laptop on May 8, 2013. Thanks..

Hi all,

i'm useing a Toshiba *Tecra M4* model *PTM40E-01L01RGR* Bios version *3.5.*
From one day to another the battery is absolutely dead - this means battery time drops from about 2 hours to zero in one day.
Now the battery can not be chanrged any more - it looks as if there is none installed.
So no boot without power cord and if you unplug the cord the notebook is powered off immediately.

From my experience if battery uptime becomes slowly shorter and shorter the battery is old or fails. But if it has no function from one day to another i would say this is a typical firmware or bios problem.

Is there any firmware or bios update available for the Tecra M4 (support page sais no - latest is 3.5 as installed ) or is there a fix or workaround i can use to get the battery back to live ?

Thanks for help !

Michael

Answer:Tecra M4 - Battery dead - Is it a BIOS or firmware issue?

Hello

On the Toshiba website you can check if a BIOS is available or not:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/ => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

But I doubt that the problem is related by the BIOS. In my opinion it?s a battery or mainboard issue. If you go to an authorized service provider the technicians can check your notebook.

And I don?t know what firmware you want to update. Firmware update is only possible on HDD?s and CD/DVD drives.

Hello.
I have been having a problem updating the firmware on my TRENDnet TEW-432BRP wireless router. When I try to update the firmware by going to the device webpage, I click on 'firmware' and click 'browse' to select the firmware file, the internet browser freezes and crashes. Any Ideas?
Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Router firmware update problem

Doesn't make much sense to me; as soon as you click on 'browse' it really has nothing to do with the router I think.

With your browser if you do File - Open File... - do you get the same crash? If yes you have some general browser problem. If you don't crash this way I have no idea what's going wrong, and would try a different browser.

FWIW I am using the same router and, at the moment, Firefox 10.0 in Windows XP SP3 and have no issues with 'browse' for a file.

Hello,I recently bought the pavilion x2 12 detachable b003tu. I was having a strange problem. When I fully charged the device, the battery reduced directly from 100% to 93% without the anything in between. I contacted Hp technical support. They gave me some intel driver updates and BIOS update. After doing that the battery issue was not resolved. However the battery backup drastically reduced by 2 hours. I did a factory reset and updated to my previous BIOS but the issue was not resolved. Now I am having another problem apart from the battery issue. Usually Microsoft downloads updates when the Battery Saver option is turned off. My battery saver option is turned off but then also when I open the Update page it says "Battery Saver option is turned on" and will update after the mode is turned off. The same message is displayed even when I plug in the power adapter. Hence Microsoft is unable to download any updates. Pls help.

Hello,
A week or two ago, I started seeing a pop-up appear on my Inspiron screen (I run Windows 8). The pop-up said that the AC adapter was not recognized, and therefore, the battery would not charge. It was the same 65W adapter that came with the laptop. I hit F2 at startup to check the BIOS, and it said the adapter wasn't recognized. I decided to order a new adapter. While I waited for it to arrive, the battery gradually drained down, but the laptop continued to work while plugged in.
The new adapter came today, an official Dell adapter. I plugged it in... Same error message. Adapter not recognized.
I ran a check on the battery; the system says the battery is fine. I pulled the battery, and the laptop still worked via the adapter. I jiggled and checked all the connections. Couldn't find an issue and couldn't make it work.
I checked the BIOS version and date, and it's from 2013. Time for an update! I downloaded the latest version, but here's the problem: It won't install without the battery sitting at at least a 10% charge. The battery, of course, won't charge with either adapter (it's reading at 1% now). So I can't update the BIOS without some battery life, but I can't make it recognize the adapter and charge the battery without the updated BIOS (assuming that's even the problem, but I'm hopeful that's all it is).
If anyone has any suggestions for how I might make this work, I would very much appreciate it! Thank you!!!

Answer:Catch-22: No BIOS updated without battery, no battery life without BIOS update...

Please list Dell model number and version of windows. Ex: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10
If you don't know, type msinfo32 onto the search box, and then look for System model.....
In the meantime, please check the USB port, where the AC adapter is plugged into system, is loose. You could also wiggle the Adapter's end while checking it in the BIOS to see if the Adapter's type appears.
