Edge 11 -- Does it have the hissing noise problem with headphones like Edge 13?

Question: Edge 11 -- Does it have the hissing noise problem with headphones like Edge 13?

On Edge 13 it's a well-known problem that the headphone jack has a constant hissing noise http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge/Edge-13-AMD-Hiss-Distortion-and-EMI-Noise-on-Speakers-and/... I'm thinking of getting an Edge 11 -- can anyone verify if this problem has been fixed in this model?

Preferred Solution: Edge 11 -- Does it have the hissing noise problem with headphones like Edge 13?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Edge 11 -- Does it have the hissing noise problem with headphones like Edge 13?

I have an Edge 11 (Intel) and have no hissing sound with the headphone jack. I was actually very suprised when I first plugged headphones in, having getting used to the hissing noise on my Edge 13.

Hi there! I've recently acquired a brand new EDGE 13, 0197-6GG (Athlon Neo X2 L325 version). I was very disappointed that in Romania you don't supply the black matte version - only the glossy, but that's another story. It is a great machine, and Windows 7 Pro 64bit runs great on it. However I am disappointed to find that there is some really annoying EMI interference (noise) - on the audio channel and some occasional distortion. It runs even when muted, on speakers and headphones.I am an Electronical Engineer and IT Specialist and I am guessing that this might seem as a design issue, which makes it impossible to apply for warranty, right? I would like to mention that my old 3000 C100 notebook has one of the clearest sound channels (absolutely NO noise or interference of any kind) I have ever seen, and that is an entry level laptop. I am curious to find out if anyone else has the same problems - just mute your volume and put some headphones and try to listen for random hissing and noise. I am waiting for some feedback. Thank you,Ovidiu Cotta

Answer:Edge 13 - AMD - Hiss / Distortion and EMI Noise on Speakers and Headphones

I have this problem too. Exactly as described. I talked to the Danish Lenovo support that told me to get an adapter for the earphones which I haven't done yet. Actually I'm not really sure what kind of adapter he meant, but I guess the problem is a design problem as you suggest but more precisely has to do with my earphones jack being "three-ring" type and the input jack on the EDGE is supposed to be four-ring since it supports both mic and phones in one. I tried connecting my Nokia earphone/mic handsfree (cable) set and surely the noise was gone. The sound anemic and low though which might have something to do with the fact that I used my own earphones instead of Nokia's. Hope this makes sense (I'm not an audioengineer ;-) (my main reason for calling support was because of keyboard flex which was taken care of immediately by sending me a new keyboard (which has no flex)).  I hate that this is my first post here. I actually wanted it to be one stating how satisfied I am with the EDGE. The keyboard is simply phenomenal and win7 is smooth and fast.  (EDGE 13 AMD L625)

Normal audio without the earbuds or headphones work perfectly. Def not my earbuds or headphone as they have 0 hissing noise on my iphone or etc... Whenever I plug it in it will has a slight hissing noise, if I turn sound to 0 then the noise stops. Help? I've already updated realtek drivers to the newest so I have no idea what else I could do.

Answer:y510p hissing noise from headphones

Are these wireless headphones or wired? Have you tried different headphones and earbuds? Same result with all? Are the headphones properly plugged in to the laptop if they are wired? In case they are wireless, maybe you can try to remove the device and pair again? Also, if you are using wired headphones and have access to wireless heaphones, could you try using the wireless and viceversa. (This is just to narrow down whether it is a software problem or a hardware issue) I am assuming that your headphones are not faulty since you already mentioned that.

I purchased the Surface Pro 4 so I thought about converting over to using the Edge browser instead of chrome for my laptop and surface both with Windows 10.
Edge seems to run fast and I haven't experienced any problems with it other than using my headphones.
If I play a video in the Edge browser from the sources I've tried I get no sound while using headphones. I can change sound option to speakers and I get sound. I can go to chrome and play a video from the same video source and the headphones work. This is all on my laptop.
I've searched for solutions to this problem but I'm really afraid to change a lot of stuff with the headphone settings due to using them to play SWTOR and WOW with.
I tried changing a setting in the device manager and the headphone disappeared from there but they at least still work.
The headphones are Razer Kracken with the updated drivers.

Recently, when I am playing Flash content in either Edge or IE and then plug in the headphones or connect a Bluetooth speaker device, the sound continues on the speakers and does switch to the headphones or Bluetooth device. Other non-flash web media content (e.g. YouTube), system sounds, media played locally (e.g. using Media Player), and Flash content using Chromes switch the sound properly to the headphones or Bluetooth speaker when they are plugged in. I did a system restore to a point where I thought the switch to headphones or a Bluetooth speaker in Edge and IE was working, but that hasn't solved the issue.

Any recommendations? Thanks...

Answer:Surface Pro 4 Not Switching to Headphones with Flash in Edge/IE Only

Whoever moved this, I do not believe it is a driver or hardware issue. I believe it is a Flash on Edge/IE issue that impacts sound.

Hi,

I am facing the same problem with my Edge E420. It does not record any sound from my iphone headphones/mic. It does record sound when I use internal microphone of the notebook i.e by plugging out iphone headphones. Strangely, it does show some green bars when I press the volume buttons of the headphones.

I have tried uninstalling the connexant drivers and deleting them so that windows install its own drivers. But that did not help as well. I cannot make any voip calls from my notebook because of this

OS - Win 7 pro
Driver version: Connexant 2061 8.32.27.0

Aali

Hey there ed_chung1,

I have the same issue! I bought my computer from Best Buy about  month ago, same model (Edge 15), and my computer is making a loud obnoxious noise after only 2 or 3 hours of use. Did you get your problem resolved? If so, what did you need to do?

I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Hi All, I've recently re-installed  an e320 and have got stuck with enabling bluetooth stereo audio functionality. I'd like to use my philips headphones with my laptop but when pairing I just get headset settings and they never show up as an audio device. Do I need to install an extra driver or profile to use Bluetooth Stereo Audio specifically? Where do I find it of so and any other tips if not? Thanks.

I'm having some issues with noise from my new Edge E420 laptop. So far everything's running smoothly, no slowdown or performance issues, but the noise coming out of the machine is bothersome. It happens when I'm doing a task, such as browsing the internet, but it also happens when the computer is sitting idle. I don't know what precisely is making the noise, but I suspect it's either the CPU or hard drive. The fan does make slight noise that is sort of a constant whir, but this other noise is intermittent (although frequent) and sounds like the typical computer "thinking/processing" noise but not high pitched. I had some earlier troubles with noise that was high pitched, which I rectified by turning off the CPU power management in the BIOS utility. Anyone else experience this noise issue before? If it was only every once in a while I could live with it, but the noise is constant. It's really driving me nuts!

Answer:Noise issues with Edge E420

hey candide, could you use this hardware maintenance manual >> http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/detail.page?DocID=UM006567and open your unit and clean the interior, especially the fan area and the vent near it. btw, is your E420's bios at version 1.16/1.07? if it isn't, do go to http://support.lenovo.com and update.

I've had this laptop for over 2 years now and I started to hear a high pitch noise, although I can hear high-pitch noise when its quiet around. I noticed that it sometimes goes away when im on High-Performance mode. Also I can't locate it, I think it's coming from or near the HDD, also it's not the fan. I have seen some topics about it but they are all kinda different and there is no real solution for this. Is this high-pitch noise somethink that I should worry about or just leave it?

I got my ThinkPad Edge s430 just two days ago, and I was quite happy with it until I connected my headphones and noticed a permanent, very loud, hiss. It's so annoying that I simply can't use any headphones (I've tried with 2-rings and 3-rings jacks; it's the same thing). This appears to be very similar to the situation reported a couple of years ago for the Edge 13 in this thread, which is discouraging, as it seems no solution was found. Is any one else experiencing this problem?

Answer:Headphone noise in Edge s430

Hi,I've been using my S430 for over two months. I didn't have any problem with headphones. To be sure I just tried three different right now, both with two and three rings. Might it be some software or setting problem? (hopefully)I run Windows 8 clean install, default drivers, no Realtek or Dolby software installed.Good luck.

Hello, Just received my e420. When I have the laptop running on battery, there is a terrible whining/piercing noise coming from the bottom left corner. It is really annoying and hard to focus. When I have the laptop plugged in, there is no whining/piercing noise. I was doing some research and lenovo had some issues with the i5 processor. My laptop contains that i5 processor. Any help?

Answer:Satellite P200 - Random hissing/static noise problem

Hola amigo?

A friend of mine has a Satellite P200 too but he never noticed something like that?
There?s no static sound or something like that?

What OS do you use? Did you changes something in sound settings? I mean speaker and internal mic settings.

I?ve got Realtek Sound Manger preinstalled on my notebook. There I can enable the option to eliminate the mic and speaker hissing.

Maybe you should check this.

Hi everyone, I join this community is looking for help.  I bought the ThinkPad Edge 15 on March this year. Recent days I found out the keyboard is a little bit strange, because all keys are working, however, the Enter, right Shift and Arrow key has noise when I use them, other keys are working normal. I think that is something not fix or loose cause this problem, because this just a little problem (I think), I am not sure that the service department will repair that or replace the keyboard. Normally how many days the computer will return to me after repair?  Thanks.

As Lenovo seems to be incapable of fixing the fan noise problem of the E530 (see http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/E530-pulsing-whiny-fan-no-low-load/td-p/797577 ), I wonder if a E535 (AMD-based) is a good alternative. Speed is not essential to me, I can also get over losing the mSATA option. As I mainly use the laptop at home while listening to music, a silent fan (not necessarily inaudible, but it must not be distracting) is most important. Does anyone here have experience with the E535? Thanks!

Hi Everyone,Can you please tell me what you think is wrong with my beloved thinkpad edge 11, when I press against a part of the laptop bezel it makes a 'cracking' type of sound and also when I open the lid the bezel is causing a minor noise, please view the outube video I created to show this. Please note the laptop is Out of warranaty, I was just wondering if I should be worried about it, and how much it would cost to get fixed ?Would it be the bezel only needs replacing, or the bezel is fine, but there is missing clips on the laptop for the bezel ? Please watch my youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgAt0njhWCk I look forward to hearing back,Adam

Thinkpad Edge, 14", Intel, Model: 0578-65U  Problem: Images on HDMI monitors (4 tested 720P, 1080P and 1900x1200) have noise and flicker effects along straight edges. Tested OS's:Ubuntu 9.x, 10.04, 10.10 - 7 different Intel GMA drivers + default un-accelerated.Stock Windows 7 all updates via Lenovo/Micro$oft current Aug. 3rd, 2010.LiveCD of Slackware-based and Redhat-based distributions. Description: Laptop purchased 2 months ago. From day one have seen flickering and noise on external HDMI displays.  Have tested against 4 different displays from 3 manufactures (I-INC, Samsung, HP) using 6 different HDMI cables , lengths 2-foot to 3 meters - all-rated for HDMI 1.3. Flicker effect is quite noticeable along straight edges of Windows - flickering line 1 pixel deep extends beyond windows borders.  Noise/flicker appears in a 'block' right of Flash, Java or images embedded in Firefox or IE browsers. Also 'blocks' of noise appear to the right using Lenovo included movie player in Windows 7. I['ve tried various Intel GMA55 drivers on Win 7 and Ubuntu and have come to the conclusion this is a hardware issue. I've isolated the laptop from external sources of electrical noise and have driven each display using 2 other vendors laptops with ZERO problems. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Answer:Flicker/Noise HDMI Output Edge 14

I've found other 'net comments about this issue on both my model and other Lenovo products.

Hi.
So after the new update my CPU usage is hovering between 50-70% + the fan is going crazy... Dosn't matter if it's 1 or 10 tabs. It used to be around 10-20%.
Anyone else experience this or is everyone on chrome? :)
Thx!

Answer:Edge and the creators update= increased fan noise?

On my desktop fans do kick in when opening websites in Edge, for example now when I was opening this thread with only one tab open and only edge and task manager running CPU usage went up to 50% when it was loading ads but then dropped back to 5%.
When opening Microsoft.com the CPU usage was 29% just the moment before it loaded and when I was opening mspoweruser.com the usage was at 30% at it's peak but then dropped down to 5%.
Not sure what your CPU is, I am running a Core i5 7600, if your CPU is a bit older then that's probably what to expect because I believe they used more CPU power for better performance because I can tell that before the Creators Update Edge was even slower when I was opening Windows Central.

Today I found out that Google had limited its search service on Edge by MicrosoftInsider.es, and this happens
This is a great hoax, and also seems to make it or for two reasons:
1. Attempt of Stop of growth of Microsoft Edge

What is the solution? This:
Press F12 (if you are on a laptop press Fn + F12), This open the F12 Tools
After go to Emulation, in Browser select or Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, and Solutionated.
Well, I hope to see their opinions and also see that users of Google in Edge make.

I've been having this problem since I upgraded to the creator's update. Sometimes everything works perfectly, but most of the time I have these issues:

Edge won't connect to internet or load anythingI can't close tabs in EdgeThe "Close all tabs" option in edge doesn't work, only closes 1 tabI can only get Edge to close using Task ManagerWindows Store apps like Twitter and Netflix won't connect and also sometimes won't closeI can't check for Windows updates through settings (won't connect again)

The internet works on third party apps that weren't downloaded in the Windows Store, like Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Spotify. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or how I could fix it? Thanks so much!

Answer:Internet Not Working in Edge & Windows Store Apps, Edge Won't Close

Hi ineedhelppls. Welcome to the TenForums @ineedhelppls

First thing I would do is run these commands at command prompt(admin). In the following commands do not key in the information in brackets, it is there to tell you what command does.

ipconfig /flushdns (Clear the dns cache)
nbtstat -RR (release and refesh NetBIOS names)
netsh int ip reset (reset ip settings)
netsh winsock reset (Reset Winsock Catalog)

Test.

Then I would disable IPv6. You will notice it can be enabled just as easy.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...nts-in-windows

If you still get issues I would recommend a network reset. You will lose wireless passwords.

Start=>Settings=>Network and Internet=> scroll down to bottom on the right hand side, last option, Network Reset.

But now i am ready to switch on Windows seven and i am very sorry that i ve formated my HDD with pre installed windows 7.Somebody who has same machine PLS Can u give me your copy of recovery usb or link on it! Or any other help.THANKS!

Answer:I have lost my Recovery HDD with pre installed windows 7 on ThinkPad Edge 13 edge PLS Need HElp!

This is why one should burn recovery media before fiddling with the HD.

One option would be to download a legal Windows 7 ISO and install it.  Or borrow one.  You can use the product key on the bottom of your machine (or in the battery compartment) to activate the installation.  You may have to use the phone option to activate.

Working Legal Windows 7 Download Links

To do this you must install the same version of Windows that came on your machine - but it can be either 32 or 64 bit.

Your machine came with Win7 Home Basic 32.  I can't say for certain that these "all version" ISOs include that version, but you can try and see.

Once you have Windows installed, go to the Lenovo support page and enter your machine type.  That will take you to a list of drivers and apps to download.  Expand the ThinkVantage option and install ThinkVantage System Update.  You can then run it and it will download and install the other software automatically.

I'm basing this on what I see on the US pages.  Yours may be different.

Good luck,
Z.

This is just an observation and with all the reading I've done this problem seems to affect many others of many types of machine.Description of problemWhen plugging in external usb powered speakers there is always background noise which can be annoying and doesn't appear to be affected by the external volume control. Moving windows( scrolling or any graphics manipulation) and , but not exclusively, hard drive activity causes the noise to increase. This also occurs even with an external usb powered graphics card. SolutionBuy and external USB power supply BUT not just anyone. Here are a couple of links http://www.righto.com/2012/10/a-dozen-usb-chargers-in-lab-apple-is.htmlhttp://www.aqvox.de/usb-power_en.html which describe the problem The first is really goodThe second is not bad I bought the Apple iPad 12Watt model and, hey presto, all the noise disappeared. This solution took 4 months to find and  return to lenovo service for which they gave no comment. So what about it Lenovo engineers! Get your USB power supply sorted out especially as it affects not only personal but also business users who want to use the computer for presentations

Its about two weeks my E120 encountered this problem. At the first cool statup I get Fan error! only once and after a reset its fine. When the fan starts, it makes alot of noise, even in low speed. when system gets a bit warmer, noisey fan calms a bit down. but not quiet. I removed both keyboard and the cover below, and removed all the dust (not much dust) by an air blower. But the problem still exists. Should I change the fan or it still have a chance to live?

Hi all,  My Lenovo Thinkpad Edge S430 has started making some ticking noise coming from the left corner of the laptop. If any video is on sometimes the voice disappears for a few seconds after the intensified ticking. Slightly pressing down the speakers helps stopping the noise for a short while. Any idea what the issues could be and how I could solve them? Thanks a lot for your help!! Maria

To those who have an UBNT Edge Switch (24 port - 250w in particular)

How do you find the noise levels with the latest firmware? I am wanting to purchase this unit and stick it in a room with in a house, not a data-center. Am I going to hear these fans from a neighboring room?

Thanks.

Answer:Ubiquiti Edge Switch - Noise Level Question

Interesting you should ask this, just got mine yesterday.

powered up with original firmware it was OK, but after it finished booting it stepped up a notch or two and was terrible.

Updated the firmware and now it starts quiet, goes berserk for a fraction of a second and then settles to a slightly more acceptable level.

From another room? possibly, mine is in the attic space and from the landing below, I can hear it, but only because I know it's there, no-one else has mentioned it.

I am planning to swap the fans out (all 4 of them) for some quieter ones, I only have 6x POE devices and 5 of those are 24v so it`s unlikely to be overloaded any time soon.

Nice switch though, other than the noise.

Here we've got a Thinkpad Edge E531. Sometimes something happens (idk what) and the screeen shows white noise (as shown in the picture) instead of what it has to show. If I suspend the laptop and then resume back, most of the time it'll be ok (some cases were reported that it didn't work too, I think so, my sister said) and it happens regardless of the OS type. Tried Arch Linux, Ubuntu and Windows 7. happens on all of them. of course I found another solution to solve the problem on linux, but I'm not sure, maybe by changing the tty by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F2.  It doesn't happen frequently, but occasionally. I mean it may not happen during 2 weeks but suddenly 6 times in 24h.  Picture: http://oi62.tinypic.com/20t5dtj.jpgA newer one: http://oi58.tinypic.com/331dqph.jpg Any idea what the problem is?

I tried upping from recommended 250% to 350% for use of a genealogy program made that program larger but nothing else and if I use pinch to spread out and enlarge then screen impossible to work on because it just jumps from side to side I set everything back and restated and still the same display smaller than before.  I have Nvided GEForce 960M video card and right now laptop is useless.

Answer:Display on XPS Infiniti edge to edge now so small cannot read anything

I didn't even realize you could go that high.  When I tried 250%, some things became so large that it became impossible to click important buttons since there wasn't enough display area to present them.  It sounds like your genealogy program isn't scaling-aware.  Also note that in some cases, after changing the scaling setting, you need to log off and back onto Windows for the change to fully take effect.
Also, what version of Windows are you running?  The display scaling functionality has changed significantly with each release of Windows from Win7 on, including within the various releases of Windows 10.

I have the same exact set up on both machines (very darn close) and Ive always noticed that Edge consumes around 500mb-1GB of mem upon start up with my predesignated 5 tabs.
After the TH2 update on my desktop, I was blown away that Edge now only consumed 30-150mb, even with a twitch stream rolling in the background for extra measure. However, on the SP3 (after TH2) the memory usage is still the same
What gives?

Hi Brand new E320 (2 weeks old), fan runs continoulsy from boot up with him pitched whining noise which gets worse if I put any pressure on the palm rest.  Have tried putting the machine on soft mats - makes it a bit better, but it's still bad. I don't think the TPFanControl utility will work with this machine. Is there a solution, or do I have to start wearing earplugs when using my new laptop? On another issue: display image quality is not good - quite washed out, not the amount of contrast I am used to from a Thinkpad (this is my 5th one - reminds me of teh passive LCD display I had on a laptop 10 years ago).  Have updated video driver, doesn'y seem to make a difference.  Also adjusting teh brightness doesn't help much either. What to do? ThanksPaul

Answer:Edge E320 fan noise driving me crazy! / Poor display quality

TPFcontrol is working on mine, needs a bit tweaking, but the fan is much better now. For the display, ditch the powermanager and try installing the latest driver from intel. I've just installed this one:GFX_Vista_Win7_64_8.15.10.2509_PV.exe And the brightness is hurting my eyes now.

Hello, I just bought an Edge 15 and I'm wondering if backlight bleed is a common problem with it. There are several places around the edge of the display where the backlight discolors the screen. I've attached a picture; note the top edge of the screen especially. Is this normal, or is it worth looking into a repair?  Also, I'm surprised that this model does not appear on Lenovo's website at all. I have only found one review for it, and it seems Best Buy was the only one to sell it. Anyone know about that? EDIT: Apparently my thread was moved to the ThinkPad Edge forum, though I'm pretty sure that this is not a ThinkPad Edge series device (as far as I can tell that series was discontinued and this was not ThinkPad branded). If someone could clarify that would be awesome. Thanks!

Windows 7 I am on a Gateway Intel 400 2 gb Ram 1 Tb harddrive using my large screen TV Mitsibuish as my monitor. Since installing Windows 7 my display has been edge to edge on my TV display. Recently after downloading a startup utility called starstartup my display changed with a two inch border on all sides. I have since deleted the startup utility but the border remain. I restored my computer to an earlier restore point nothing changed. So I think there must be another reason for this change in the display. On another hard drive with Windows XP which was also displaying edge to edge display but after I installed windows 8 beta the same thing occurred there was a border instead of the edge to edge display. I attempted to change the resolution which was on 1920 X 1080 to a lesser resolution but that didn't correct the display. So the resolution is back to 1920 X 1080. I've hooked my iPod up to my PC tower, and am listening to songs via iTunes. I have headphones plugged into the front audio jack (the only headphones jack--the others are for speakers/microphones). When it's plugged all the way in, The audio volume is cut in half, the vocal track almost disappears, and the whole song sounds like it's underwater or at a really low recording quality. Then when I pull the jack out a little bit, the volume is normal, but there's constant static/hissing. Depending on which way I turn the headphones, the static is in one or both of the headphones.

I never had this problem until yesterday, which is frustrating. I also encountered some weird things. For one, the static/hissing stops when iTunes is the active window, and I either use the mouse wheel or left click and hold on a song title/artist/album, etc. in the list of songs on my iPod. Right clicking does not make the static go away. But the static comes back if I move the mouse after clicking and holding it. I tried this same thing in Windows Media Player, and clicking the mouse buttons on any part of the active window won't do anything.

Things I've already tried:

Trying the headphones (the earbuds that come with the iPhone) in different places--they work fine when plugged directly into the laptop

Switching the PC power plug to its own outlet, instead of on a power strip with all the other computer stuff (the static seemed a bit better at first, but then... Read more

Answer:Constant Static/Hissing from Headphones

Not an expert, but if clicking on a song/changing the active window changes the problem, I would think it was a software issue... do you have a problem in other programs? Like WMP or RealPlayer?

Hi,
I'm here wondering if there is a known issue with the headphone jack for the XPS 9560.
The speakers seem to work OK.
The rest of the laptop seems to be mostly problem free with the exception to the Wifi card. I am currently troubleshooting the wifi issue with tech support.

With regards to the audio from the headphone jack, I seem to be hearing a slight static sound intermittently when using the headphones.
It doesn't matter if the audio is set to 2% of 100%, the hissing sound, when it appears, is always just as loud. I've done most of my testing at volumes between 2% and 10% (100% would really hurt my ears when listening to music).
In either case, static sound, from the headphones seems to appear from time to time, and lasts anywhere from 30 seconds -2 minutes with pauses between 30 seconds and 2 minutes as well.
It appears with the power adapter, the TB16, or simply on battery.
The hissing sound that appears really makes using the laptop an unpleasant experience.
When I use my headphones with the TB16, the hissing sound does not appear.
Is there a known fix for this issue?

Hello,
I have new Dell XPS 15 9550 laptop. 4K monitor, i7-6700HQ, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD. The laptop is 1 month old. Once I received the unit I didn't have any kind of problems with it, but then I updated the drivers out of fear from the BSOD because many others had troubles with it. After the update problems arrived.
First it was screen flicker. It was driving me nuts. After reading a lot of forum posts, various articles on the internet, a combination of latest BIOS and Intel HD driver revision number 4331, did the trick. Flicker was not present anymore.
Then came the buzzing noise from the left bottom side of the laptop. Everything I tried to remove it failed. This was not present at the time laptop arrived. The power adapter was buzzing from the start but not the laptop. After some time the laptop also started buzzing. This is very annoying considering this is a 2k laptop.
Now the fan that is closer to the power outlet is also producing some scratching sound on lower RPM.
I must say that I am very dissapointed in the time invested in the proper testing of these devices. i tried using dell support, but 5 consequtive times dell's website gave me "Sorry, try again.". So, I can't file a report that I have a product that is not functioning as it should. My warranty was started 5 months before laptop even arrived at my place, and I am not sure how that happened, because it wasn't opened, it was properly sealed.
Can anyone please shed some light on thi... Read more

I've been having this problem for a while.. I'm pretty sure its caused by a spyware of somesort but adaware/spybot wont find it

Randomly out of nowhere a 2 time hissing noise comes out of the speakers and its driving me nuts...

Any ideas what it is ??

Answer:random hissing noise

Sounds like a grounding issue, or an issue caused by poor sound hardware. (Either the speaker system, or the soundcard itself.)

This hissing noise is often caused by a problem with the grounding between a device with a motor in it (such as a hard drive or CD-ROM). If you're hearing two short hisses in a row, it's most likely the hard drive, as it frequently operates for short periods of time and would be capable of producing such a noise.

You might either consider looking into a better power supply, or checking out some better hardware as far as a soundcard or speakers go. Good luck!

Hi, I just got a thinkpad edge e420 and I have noticed a high frequency/high pitch noise as well as a whirring sort of noise (sometimes, might just be hard drive tho). It is quite soft and I can only really hear it when I am in my bed at night with the laptop. It can get quite annoying. I have heard of similar problems like this when I did a search but no clear solution.  Where exactly is the noise coming from?Is there a solution? Is this normal for all e420 or is it just a very common problem that may require warranty service?

For about a week now I have noticed when I turn my PC on it starts up and sort of has a hissing noise to it. While sitting at my desk I hear a noise coming from the computer. It sounds kind of like static, and to be more descriptive it sounds like there is a radio in my computer that is on but at really low volume if that makes any sense. I looked inside my PC while it was running but I do not see anything unusual and don't know where this noise could be coming from.

What is going on here?

Does anyone else with a Dell XPS 13 hear a whistling/hissing noise that changes in frequency randomly? It's very distracting for me. A Dell engineer has replaced the mobo and unplugged the screen, battery, keyboard backlight, speakers and disk, So the noise has to be coming from the mobo. He told me that probably all XPS 13s make this noise, but I can't believe that I'm the first person to be driven crazy by it. It's not very loud, and if the fan is running it masks it. But in the dead of night without the fan running it's very plain and annoying even from a few meters away.
So far Dell has told me: "Perform these steps should resolve your issue" and linked to a massive thread about ALSA on ubuntuforums, which says to try millions of different things. (I did, nothing fixed the problem). (it's a Sputnik, but the noise is there in the bios so it has nothing to do with linux.) Interestingly I do not hear the noise while the diagnostics are running.
They have also told me: "We are working on an issue that seems similar to what you have." But as yet not replied to my request for more details.

Answer:XPS 13 whistling hissing noise from motherboard

I have a Dell XPS 13 Haswell, and it also hisses. It's worse with the keyboard backlight is on. It's also triggered by some USB 3 products plugged in.
I have a Anker 3.0 USB hub plugged in as kind of dock, so now the machine hisses constantly. It's very annoying.
I suspect the issue is due to electromagnetic interference (EMI), which could possibly be solved by better shielding.
The potential for USB 3 to cause EMI is well known. Intel has a whitepaper about it:
http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/white-papers/usb3-frequency-interference-paper.pdf
Dell should know better.
It particularly ruins sitting in a quiet room with the laptop, where all you can here is the focus-destroying laptop hiss.
I expected better from a premium laptop and will reconsider purchasing another Dell in the future if this goes unresolved.

Hi all, I just bought a refurbished W510 laptop about two weeks ago.  I love it, but for one problem.  When I turn off the computer or make it go to sleep it will hiss when the lid is closed and the power is connected (in the case or turning it off) or at any time I put it to sleep, power connected or not.  I have updated all the Lenovo suggested updates, which includes a NVIDEA driver.  I saw that there was mention of another driver on the NVIDEA site, but I couldn't figure out which one to use. I have a W510 with 2 gig ram, a quadro FX 880M graphics card, and I'm running Windows 7 32-bit Professional.I talked with tech support and they said they would send me a new AC adaptor, but that was 2 weeks ago and still nothing (the computer can the next day I ordered it).  The power supply is a 135w 20v  FRU PIN: 45N0055 Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hello, My Lenovo Y50 arrived today, and I noticed that, as long as the volume wasn't muted there would be a hissing noise coming through my earbuds. After some searching around, I uninstalled the Realtek High Definition Audio driver and restarted the machine, causing the generic Microsoft driver to be installed. There is no background hiss with the Microsoft driver, but does the subwoofer still work without the Realtek driver? Is there another way to stop the earbud hissing? I have tried reinstalling the Realtek driver, and the hissing noise comes back after I reinstall. Thank you for your help.

Answer:Lenovo Y50 Earbud Hissing Noise

Hi Protator,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issues with speaker in your Lenovo Y50 laptop.

Connect the earphone and check for the issue, also try to reinstall the operating system and check, take a data backup before reinstalling the operating syytem.

Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists.

Have seen a couple threads on this problem but can't find if there has been a resolution. Already returned one system due to the hissing noise and this second one has it as well. System is the six gen i7. Any pointers to resolving this annoyance appreciated. TIA.

Is there a setting or a way to get Edge to NOT open all the windows and tabs from the last session? I've looked and haven't seen it. (Haven't checked the registry yet).
What I'd like is to never open my previous sessions because I typically have a couple Edge windows running with multiple tabs in each and I don't normally need to resume with them.
Most, if not all, of the time I just want to start fresh and open from Favorites, etc.
Thanks.

I recently got a T430 with Windows 7 and I noticed when I have my headphones plugged in I can hear this annoying hissing noise that sounds like EMI. Hitting the mute button makes it go away, but I'm sure all that's doing is killing power to the sound card. I googled this issue and it seems to be very common for lenovo laptops but of course no soultion was found other than trying to install some custom hacked up driver that I wasn't going to try. I tried installing the 2.55 drivers listed for the T430, but that did not stop the hissing. It sounds like internal speaker is bleeding in to the sound card, because when I boot it, I can hear the POST beep in the headphones. Any solution?

Answer:T430 Win7 headphone has hissing noise

Hi, welcome to the forum!

Have you tried connecting different headphones or external speakers to the laptop? If yes, does this symptom go away or is it still there? Also, check the output jack visually, maybe with the help of a flashlight. Does it seem intact?

It's true that you don't expect the best quality of sound from a laptop's sound circuit but this doesn't mean you should hear noises...

My linksys router has started hissing constantly recently. It sounds like speaker white noise. Any reasons/ideas?

Answer:Router makes hissing noise like speakers

Some PWM (pulse width modulation) circuitry oscillates within audible frequencies, usually making the signature hissing or buzzing sound. Can you isolate the sound to the router itself or perhaps the power brick?

I have a Creative Soundblaster Live! Platinum 5.1 card.Today, I bought a set of Creative Inspire 5.1 5100 speakers.Got home, unpacked everything and connected it all up, as per the manual.Booted up PC and switched on speakers.Anytime ANY sound is played, be it in a game, playing music or just a windows sound, there is a terrible hissing/feedback from the centre speaker, when playing music or games. Even when clicking on options in a game menu, for example, you can hear the hissing noise cut in and out. I checked all my cabling and its fine. I swapped speaker leads around, thinking it may have been a faulty speaker, but its not, the hiss just follows the cable change. Also, in my Creative AudioHQ and Playcenter, there is no mention anywhere of a 5.1 set up, or how to set your preferances to it. I only get a LiveSurround! set up option, which gives me 4? Speakers and a Sub, no centre one.I checked the driver disk that came with the card, and there is no mention of a 5.1 set up there either.According to my Device Manager, I'm using the Creative drivers dated 26.8.99 and numbered 4.11.01.0711. Are there any drivers suitable for my set up, that are newer than those ones?.There doesnt appear to be any sound coming from the rear speakers either, on some occassions. The only time I can get sound from the rear speakers, is if I insert and play an audio CD.I cant understand this. My friend has a similar set up, and when he runs the speaker test, it says "Front right, front left, rear ri... Read more

Hi
Bought my new Lumia 830 a week ago and noticed the charger is making a hissing noise. It's not high pitched, it's more like white noise.
I'm not sure if this is related but my phone gets a bit warm around the camera on the side where the micro USB is located when charging the phone with the charger.
Any ideas?

Same here. My dad's 640XL's charger makes a similar sound.

Hello,

My Qosmio F20 has a strange problem. After turning the notebook on, the speakers start to make a hissing noise. You can hear it clearly all the time. Toshiba just has replaced the mainboard but tis hissing sound is still there. Is this normal for the Qosmio F20? When I turn off the sound in Windows the hissing noise is gone, also after putting in headphones (there's no hissing sound in the earphones...) the sound is gone.

Thanks for any hints!

Hi

I have a Satellite C850-19D that I wont boot unless I take the battery out and reset the bios every time, also when it does come on there is a constant hissing noise that even turning off the speakers wont stop.

I've tried to update the bios but its running the newest version.
As you can imagine its driving me and my family crazy

Can anyone please help???

Thanks

Paul

Answer:Satellite C850-19D - Hissing noise and not booting

Hi Paul

First of all removing the main battery from the notebook does not reset the BIOS!
For me it sounds really strange that you have to remove the battery always just to boot up the unit.

Also the sound you have mentioned in your post seems to be coming from an internal hardware part (cooling vent, HDD or maybe CPU???) and not from speakers.

I guess there is an serious hardware problem and I don?t think you will be able to solve this without an assistance from an authorized service technician.

Hello,
I had a Dell XPS 15 notebook with GForce GT540M graphics card running windows 7 professional 64bit. When I power on the notebook, it won't kick off the Dell start up screen but instead had a loud hissing noise made by the fan and a black screen. I had to power on and off the computer for at least 10 times before the Dell start up screen kicks in but then when it starts windows, the screen turns black again this time without the fan noise. I had to power it off and on again till it goes to the normal windows "launch start up repair or start windows normally" screen and then press starts windows normally before windows can start properly. I had gone to the Dell website and update all my BIOS and drivers all over again as well as downloading Gforce latest drivers for GM540M graphics card but the situation is the same. I think it's the graphics card driver that had some conflict with the latest update of windows. Everything works fine prior to some windows update but as the windows update keep pilling on, it ended up like this. I also can't put my notebook to sleep or hibernation.

Hello guys,

I am having a lot of trouble with this very annoying hissing sound that you can hear if you plug in any speaker / headphone, etc, in the computer.
It's a very high pitched, continuous, beep, and static in the background.
I have tried many suggestions I found while searching similar threads, for example, using rear line out jacks instead of the front ones, turn off microphone, update drivers (Realtek).. and none of them helped.

Here are the specs, I'll gladly provide you with any more information:

Stupid question, but, could it be that I don't have a sound card?

Answer:Very annoying hissing noise (Any device that is plugged in)

The mainboard has a built-in Realtek ALC888B codec, or onboard sound chip in other words.

It appears to have 2 spare PCi slots if you wished to add a higher quality sound card, however the noise issue you mention is not normal.

Interference is the most likely culprit. However whether it's from another component within the PC or is from an external source would be hard to say.

Moving the computer to a completely different location would eliminate the latter, but beyond that all I can suggest is to use ferrite rings on external audio cables and ensure you're running the right drivers for the sound chip...

I'm having this strange noise every time I'm 10 minutes into a game (Stalker COP) and I noticed that when I'm using a VGA analogue cable my display starts to tremble, the noise won't stop until I turn off my pc for 15-20 minutes.
It is constant it varies when a game hangs or if I change my screen resolution, I'm sure it's not my monitor, fans, HDDs, ODD, graphics cards (restarted my pc without them and the noise is still there), I stressed my CPU with prime95 and all went good.
As far as I can tell there's no strange smells, I checked most of my MOBO caps, nothing bad.
Tried a BIOS update, Forceware update...no luck.
My PSU is few days old, My PC runs very well even when there's hissing.

any advise?

Answer:PC makes Hissing noise when running a game.

It's not the PSU fan either?

My laptop has developed a horrible static noise upon clicking the letter 'w'. It is only the letter w and I can hold it down and it'll release a scratchy static noise will drag out until I let go. So far I've just tried restarting and that didn't do anything. I have headphones but the noise is coming from under what seems to be the the actual letter 'w' key but it could just be anywhere.
Also the laptop is fairly new (about 2 weeks old now) does anyone know a solution? Thanks

Answer:Hissing static noise when I click the letter 'w' on keyboard

It could be anything including a short on the keyboard. I would save all files, do a factory reset. If the problem is still there take it back to where you purchased it from.

thinking this would resolve the problem but to no avail
Does this sound like a hardware problem?
Any suggestions would be welcome

Good Lord, I thought FF with plugin-container was bad....

Edge makes FF look like a "text only browser" as far as CPU goes.

Wondered why my fan was running so long, hovered down over System Explorer 7.0 and naturally, it was solid red!

Any thoughts? I like the look and feel of Edge, (I go for the modern UI look), but I cant have Edge hogging all the ram.

I've found a few sites don't work well with Edge, and had to use IE to open them. Norton also warns that it is not set up to handle Egde yet compared to IE.

So what's the purpose of Edge over IE? I'm struggling to see what it does better, even the favourites are not laid out as well as IE.

And the address bar is hidden in Edge if entering a web address, especially if opening a new tab.
A pile of new icons that have no apparent use for normal people.

Answer:Edge or IE? What more does Edge offer?

Edge is the future browser for MS and it is still in development so not all sites will be compliant with it at the present time. As for Norton, they have to get their software up to date to handle Edge as well.

Oh and as for IE. I just never found it anywhere near as good as say FF and/or Chrome.. or any FF like browser. And some time in the future IE will be phased out by MS.

Just my 2c

I think i have locked on closer to were the stuttering problem is coming from, so i have noticed that when fan speed goes up and down the stuttering occurs but it may not have to do with fans themselfs, so to test that i installed SPEEDFAN software and enabled dell notebooks support, when the software is running without me changing or the software changing fan speed the video still stutters and like a lot after 3-4 seconds, a 1 second stutter, so what exactly the SPEEDFAN is doing at that moment? its recording temps and fan speed at the moment using sensors, so i think it may have todo with those fan sensors being on, just may be, what do you think? My second theory is that those sensors or consuming power and leaving less for HDD, thus the stuttering, maybe replacing the HDD with SSD will solve the problem but i will not bother myself with that all that ***, i'm done with dell, second product i'm having problem with, and these are not like those twinki problems that can be fixed by driver updates but on hardware level. i hav... Question: Problem with Edge

Now I have been using Edge for a while now and while I find it not bad now there has been what I can only think an update that has left me with the browser opening quite differently to what I had set up. ie open immediately with my emails, then each new tab with those pinned windows for often used sites.
The taskbar is now missing or I have to move the cursor to the bottom of the screen to get it to show for as long as I keep the cursor there.
New tabs are again opening with that awful and dreadfully dull and boring msn feed and I just cannot stand the rubbish that comes through with it I prefer just the few pinned often used sites but I cannot make head nor tail of how to get it back to what I want, and that is it open with emails then each new tab in Google with the pinned sites.

Any ideas please before I go back to Firefox. I do wish that stuff like this wouldn't happen I am not a child and this is just taking away my own personal preferences.

Answer:Problem with Edge

It sounds like some of your settings have got changed or reset.

The taskbar hiding is a setting you can change here:
The Edge settings allow you to specify a particular site you want opened when you start Edge and also what happewns when you open a new tab. Change them in the Edge Settings menu accessed from the three dots at far right of the menu bar:

Question: Edge Problem

Let me start by stating I DO NOT HAVE A VIRUS OR MALWARE. I have had to force close edge a couple times due to various bad websites. When I reopen it it automatically opens back up the same site I was forced to manually close thereby forcing me to manually kill them again. The same thing happens when you restart windows with open browsing sessions. In versions of IE you were given the option to restore prior browsing session but not so with Edge. It just takes you back. I can't figure out how to stop this behavior. I want to either completely turn off it remembering my browsing sessions OR at least ask me before taking me back to where I was... How do I accomplish this?

Microsoft Edge was taken over by a page with infernal honking sound accompanying a notice to call a phone number to fix the Edge/Windows 10 error. Do not turn off computer among other critical warnings. I was able to knock off message and stuck Edge browser using Task Mgr. Kaspersky and Housecall show no virus activity but I don't like the message and fear calling the phone number to fix.

I appear to be able to use the computer and do everything but use Edge. I have not shut down but using Sleep since yesterday when this appeared. I want instructions to clear Edge history without opening the program itself. There must be a file onboard that holds the last open programs and brings them up again when you restart the program? No? What do you recommend?
