I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo R500 wifi upgrade from Intel WiFi Link 5100 to Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260

Welcome to the forum!

You'll need a modded BIOS in order to use that card in R500. Stock BIOS will not allow the machine to boot with it.

Guys, I've got a problem with my t440s and Intel Dual Band Wireless N 7260.I checked speedtestConnection between my router (TP-LINK- "n" connection established) and my t440s is in amount of 144 mbits.I've checked my t440s with speedtest.net and the highest download value  is 20 mbits. It seems to me like it is only b/g connection. What should I do to receive hi speed (80mbits) connection? All my older notebooks my WiFi works with speed of 80 mbits. So there is a problem with t440s Help! I think the driver is updated.

Answer:t440s - Intel Dual Band Wireless N 7260 - low WiFi speed

Ensure in the WLAN driver that Windows is not allowed to turn of the device to save energy and also check the Windows energy center: WLAN might be not on full speed to save energy.

My sons' ThinkPad Yoga is extremelly slow when surfing the web. Can it be that the original wireless card does not support current wireless technology standards? Is there a recommended wireless card upgrade for this model? The hard drive is almost empty, he only uses it for college work and basically uses MS Office products. No gaming applications in this box. See system specs attached. I updated all the drivers. Any ideas?

Hi I recently purchased the U41 Series laptop, with i5 (5th Gen) ,4 GB Ram, 1 TB SSHD , 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE. It has an Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC3160 adapter. Now, I am facing a lot of issues due to this adapter. Firstly, the connection is very unstable. It drops out anytime, and speed also fluctuates a lot. Secondly, when I am in my room, all other devices, including a 5 year old Lenovo laptop can acccess a Wifi network, but the U41 fails to access and if it does, it frequently disconnects. Read online for a lot of solutions, it is faced by all the users of this adapter, but had no luck. Please look into this matter, and if necessary, call for a replacement of the wireless adapter. It would be good on Lenovo's part if it does so. It is really frustrating to buy a Notebook with such good configs & then facing such issues !!.

I am new here. I'm not even sure if this question is in the correct forum (I hope so). I have a Toshiba Satellite A305 laptop that I purchased a few months ago. In the last month, the wireless connection has been dropping like mad ! And more recently, when it drops, it says it can't find any wireless networks. I then have to perform a hard shut off (by holding the power button till it powers down) and wait a few minutes to turn it back on. I have uninstalled the wireless adapter and then reinstalled it and that didn't work either. Also, all the drivers are up to date. I am very frustrated at this point and don't know what to do. Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks !!

Answer:Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 problem

It is always a VERY good idea to check the microfilters (if using ADSL) which are fitted into your phone sockets and make certain that you have microfilters in any socket in the house. Microfilters are very cheap to get hold of and its worth having a few spare.

Am looking for a hardware solution: Pavilion DV7 1270 usUPGRADED TO WIN 10  64bit from WIN 7 64bit My current WIFI Wireless/Bluetooth card is an INTEL WIFI LINK 5100 agn. ( Original card) This is NOT SUPPORTED in Win 10... WIFI  no longer works. There are no solutions offered in HP Web assistance or via INTEL or MICROSOFT. I would simply like to find a compatible(upgrade) card that works in this system  with WIN 10? The card is accessible and replaceable ( in RAM Bay... as i remember) INTEL no longer supports this card (to and through win 10) HP Laptops are notoriously finicky with WIFI card replacements...? Short of adopting a usb dongal WIFI/BLUETOOTH option, I would like to effect an internal upgrade to the original card... seems simple enough? Thank You for whatever guidance you might afford

Answer:after win 10 upgrade, intel wifi link 5100 no longer support...

Hi: You may be able to get the card to work if you fiddle with some of the advanced settings on the advanced tab for the card in the device manager. I have 3 HP business notebooks...one has the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3965ABG card, one has the Intel Intel WiFi Link 4965AG card, one has the Intel WiFi Link 5300 wireless card. The first two I didn't have to do anything to make them work. The 5300...device is present in the device manager saw wireless networks but would not connect when I clicked connect. I went into the advanced settings tab and I think I enabled WMM and the card works just fine and has so ever since. Try tweaking one of the settings in the advanced settings tab. I wish I remembered exactly which setting I changed that made it connect. I was ticked off, so I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. Could not understand why two older cards worked perfectly and the newer one wouldn't. Changing the wireless card would be extremely problematic as you are limited to just the cards listed in the service manual and half the time the ones listed in the manual cause the notebook not to boot up until the card is removed. Also, if you can't get the Intel 5100 to work, you can forget any of the others listed working on W10. I am very sure that changing one of those advanced settings will allow the 5100 card to work.

I have problems getting online using my T00 after installing windows 7. The rest of the computers in my network will be affected if my T400 is online. I saw the version for my intel wifi link 5100 to be of version 12+ but i understand that the latest driver is version 13. I downloaded the latest firmware from the internet and intel website but after updating/reinstalling, the driver is still version 12+. I really need to update the driver as I need to access my wireless network desperately and my T400 cannot allow me to do that. Any ideas?

I have a Gateway FX series 17" laptop and yesterday when I got home from university and took the computer out of my bag to start working, the wireless card just didnt exist, no networks were recognized and when i tried to troubleshoot it told me that no device was connected. Wired internet works just fine. And the wireless card appears in the device manager.

methods i have tried to no avail:
-turning the wireless switch on and off
-uninstalling the device and rebooting
-updating drivers
-manually downloading driver from Intel's website
-insulting the device's mother

I'm suspecting this might be a hardware issue but if anyone has some advice that would be great. For the time being I am just using a wired connection but I'm going to need the wireless when I'm. back in class

,Thanks guys

We're in hospital, she's I'll, I am 24/7 carer.

My Vostro 1720 connects promptly at home, WiFi or LAN.

Hospital has public use WiFi provided on each floor. Transmitter has TP-Link on the cover and twin aerials.

The Vostro can see transmitters for 4 floors, the signals come & go and, regularly disappear.

2 iPads & an iPhone stay connected unless, the signal disappears, in the same room. Signals are described as excellent or good.

The Vostro when I bring it in, after using at home, connects automatically. Twice has reached the stage when all 3 links I can see with a decent signal, can't connect, sometimes get asked for the password, run trouble shooter multiple times with no success. First time internet connection worked for 2 days, 2nd time for an hour, then couldn't log on to any link.

I'm puzzled why the Vostro doesn't hold the connection and the IOS devices do.

Public holiday over in a couple of days and I plan to catch the lady chief of the hospital and the IT manager.

I would be most grateful for queries, comments or, references to help in these encounters.

Thank you and regards

Hey guys firstly thanks for taking the time to read my thread.

Recently completed a custom install of Windows 7 64bit version. Have installed all the Windows updates and drivers from HP.

My wireless adapter will connect to my network with static ip address set manually but the 'automatically detect settings' option will not work and I receive the message "Unidentified Network" in the task bar.

Any help will be appreciated.

**SOLUTION**

1. Reset router and apply settings again. (**Remember to write down any user names and passwords used for your ISP**)

2. Use WPA2-PSK security rather than WPA

3. Connect to network using network password

hi LumLamaxhema

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try these steps:
1. Set the Y50-70's power plan to High Performance
2. Temporarily disable Bluetooth in the Device manager.
    - Sample image
3. Uncheck the Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power setting in the  Wi-Fi card's properties
   - Sample image

4. Disable U-ASPD (Wi-Fi power saving mode) and set the roaming aggresiveness to lowest.
   - Sample image
   - Sample image

5. If you're connected in the 5Ghz band and you have obstructions between your room and the Wi-Fi Access Point, try setting the router to broadcast both 2.4Ghz - 802.11n and 5Ghz 802.11AC and switch to the 2.4Ghz band and observe.

6. Check this thread for more tips.

After doing the above steps, open a command prompt and try to do a continuous ping to a site (e.g., google) and observe if the signal still drops.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi Guys,
This is Viral. I am using an Acer laptop model ASPIRE 4736 since the last five years. There haven't been much issues with it. except for the battery and thats it. But recently, since last two weeks I noticed that my Wifi would stop blinking after sometime after I start my laptop and then it wouldn't work even when I try to turn on and turn off the Wifi switch(it doesn't respond anything). I tried searching the net for this issue using my office laptop and found that a system restore would help to solve this issue. Since I remembered that I updated Java as well as there was this ad software which got installed and I had unistalled it. So I did a system restore and then when I opened the device manager, I am not able to see intel r wifi link 5100 driver on it. I tried restarting my laptop and did everything and couldn't find the driver(it was there before the system restore). But later on the same day, the driver got installed automatically and the WiFi started working but only for a couple of minutes after the restart and then it stopped. So  I did the system restore again to the date when everything was working perfectly and when i did that, again my intel r wifi link 5100 driver is not shown on the device manager(network adapters). I don't if it would automatically get installed or not but its sure that the WiFi issue still be there. So can you please help with this issue?

I have had a Linksys BEFW11S4 Version 4 Wireless router for quite some time.  It works like a champ and I have one Laptop wired to it and a second using Wireless working just fine.  Recently, I received a new ThinkPad W500 Laptop with an Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN wireless network adapter.  The older laptop (ThinkPad T60p) that works just fine with the router uses a11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter by Atheros.  However, the NEW laptop (the W500) with the Intel Adapter fails to connect to the Router.  It will either indicate a failure while "Waiting for Association" or it will indicate a failure when waiting to "renew IP Address".  Sometimes, it will show a signal strength close to ZERO (Even as the older laptop with the other adapter is showing a signal strength close to 100%) When I called Linksys support, I was told that the facts that the Router (a) works find with the wired Laptop and (b) works fine with the 11a/b/g NEtwork Adapter and (c) works fine when WIRED to the new laptop all indicate that the problem is NOT with the router at all -- but with the Network Adapter.  Can anyone tell me what has to be adjusted in the Adapter settings?  Right now, I am using IBM Access Connections for BOTH of the wireless laptops.  I have made sure to set IDENTICAL values for SSID and WEP (128-bit) [static] password.  I have also ensured that all OTHER settings are the same for the two laptops.  Yet, in... I would like to add some information that I left out that MAY be crucial here.On the NEWER ThinkPad, I am using Access Connections 5.02.  At work, the wireless adapter works properly and I am able to use the Intel Adapter. It is only at home where I have the Linksys Router that I have a problem.I also noticed that when I looked at the Wireless Driver Properties, there was NO tab for "wireless" -- which I would have expected to see....Instead there are only TWO tabs... one for "General" and one for "Advanced"... Just like what you would see for an EthernetAdapter..... this all looks a bit weird to me.....As I did not configure this laptop, I do not know if the Hotkey and Power Manager were installed BEFORE the Access Connections or not.... any ideas? TIA --Zvi

Hi,

I'm curious: are there problems other than the log entries?  Do the timestamps match some other event - like shutting down the laptop?  Perhaps the newer driver is just "noisier" about logging normal activity.

Answer:Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260" Adapter

Those are discoverable modes for access points.  Doesn't mean that you're not getting AC connection speeds. Are you connected to the 5GHz band?  Click your wireless icon and then right click and show status of your connection.  What connection speed do you see?  If it's over 300Mbps, then you're getting AC speed. Pro Tip:  give your 2 band and 5 band each their own SSID.  That way, you know which one you're connecting to.

I just got the internal adapter Intel Wireless Dual Band AC 7260. I couldn't get it to work at ac speed, it always connects at 54mbps. I have another usb external DLink AC wireless adapter which works fine.
Just wondering if I have to do anything (config/setup) with the Intel internal wireless adapter to make it work at ac speed. I have been to device manager and check but it doesn't seem to have any option for ac mode.
Any help would be appreciated!

I have just purchased a new HP Pavilion and  want to upgrade the wireless wlan card. This is a great PC and has a Intel Core 4 Gen i7 and so far works good when connected to my LAN via Cat6. I am having issues pulling large CAD files and in looking over the service manual the only option listed for a duel band card is a old N Intel 3160 (1X1) from 2013. I Contacted Intel and was informed that the card should work but that HP tends to Whitelist there BIOS in order to keep customers from upgraded there workstations. The issue I am having is the the Intel 7260 is not listed in my service manual BUT is currently available as a driver download on the support site listed as a Intel 7260/3160 driver. Does anyone know if this product is whitelisted on the BIOS? I have listed the part I am ordering below for reference.  INTEL DUAL BAND WIRELESS AC 7260 - (2X2 NETWORK ADAPTER PCI EXPRESS HALF MINI CARD -802.11B, 802.11A, 802.11G, 802.11N,802.11AC, BLUETOOTH 4.0 LEModel Number 7260.HMWWB.RTigerDirect Part Number: IE2-102594433List Price $29.99 As you can see the value in spending $29.99 and the return on investment this offers this is a no brainer compared to the "stock" Realtek  Wireless Card that comes standard on this computer. Also would like to point out that this computer was only $479.99 at Best Buy and came with and 4Gen i7 and was too good a deal to pass up.  No idea why HP would but such as inferio... Answer:Intel dual band wireless-ac 7260 Compatability

Hi: From the several posts I have read on the forum you should have no problem installing any wireless card you want in your notebook, as it appears that HP has done away with the BIOS whitelisting of wireless cards. Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook. Memory upgrade info can be found in chapter 1. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=7582630& Now, I have some bad news for you... You will void the warranty if you install a wireless card or memory yourself. Unfortunately, you have to pretty much take the whole notebook apart to get to the hard drive, memory and wireless card.  You can refer to chapters 5 and 6 of the service manual for the removal and replacement procedures.

Answer:Install Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 in Q190

hi Matt_McD,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

As far as the system Maintenance Manual is concern,
This is not recommended as it may be incompatible with the BIOS WLAN supported list

If you'll check the Manual only the WLAN listed there with their Lenovo FRU part numbers will work with the system.

No. Sorry. That model still has the HP BIOS whitelist which will prevent the laptop from booting if anything other than officially sanctioned wireless cards are installed. None of the approved devices is an ac type receiver. Some are combination wifi/bluetooth. Post back if you are interested in locating and installing one of them.

I have a Thinkpad Yoga running Windows 10 pro (upgraded in July 2015).  Last week I was unable to connect to the internet wirelessly and now my laptop shows that no wifi connections are available.  When I open Device Manager, the AC 7260 does not appear under Network adapters (only Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) and Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI) appear), unless I show hidden devices.  When I do, Microsoft Kernel Debug Network Adapter and Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 appear, but the latter is "grayed" out.  Properties indicates the following under Device status:  "Currently, this hardware device in not connected to the computer (Code 45).  To fix this problem, reconnect the hardware device to the computer."  The AC 7260 came installed on my laptop and I have not done anything to physically to remove or install the device.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the device and updated the drivers with drivers on Intel's web site and on Lenovo's website.  When I used the drivers on Intet's web site, the device did not appear in Device Manager when I checked show hidden devices and I lost all bluetooth connection in Device Manager.  The Lenovo drivers brought back my bluetooth devices and the net work card in hidden devices.  The current drafts installed for hte device are provided by Intel , file version 17.15.0.5 (downloaded from Lenovo).

Any thoughts or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A660 laptop and i like to upgrade the wifi. I bought Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 wifi card, when i installed it, it didn't work. First i tried it with windows 10 default driver and later with latest official intel driver. I also tried to install the card again and it didn't work, tried to switch antena cabels still no go. Then i check the wifi card on another Asus laptop (approximately the same age model) and it worked, so the wifi card is working normally.

All the time the card is visible in the device manager and the icon is there to. The icon has the symbol for turned off wifi.

What could be the problem, what can i do?

Best regards.

Answer:Lenovo Y510p upgrade to newer Intel 7260 2x2 (BGN) Wireless Card from Intel Centrino N 2230

I just posted a response on the other Lenovo y510p Intel 7260AC forum.  In a nutshell, I bought a Lenovo part: fru 04W3814, which is a Lenovo Intel 7260AC + Bluetooth 4.0.  Lenovo initally said they would support it, and have a hardware support case number.  They told me that they would support it.  I had not heard back.  I called and was given the "we don't support upgrades" answer, although it was their own part, and they acknowledged problems with the Intel 2230 card.

What I learned, is that I was not talking to Lenovo, but a third party company who would not let me contact Lenovo directly.

My laptop L540 is using wireless card of Intel Dualband 7260 AC. For some reason when I use it in the university campus wirelss network, I use Speedtest test it. But to find it always working in a wierd way:I first disabled the 3rd party wireless manager "Intel PROset wireless utility" and let Window wireless manager to the connection. The normal wireless speed  is around 100Mbps in my office, which I tested with my old R400 and other HP laptops. The problem is:Whenever I reboot the computer or wake it up from sleep, the first wireless connection ( mannual or automatical authentification), the network is slow as around 25Mbps in Speedtest Ookla. But when disconnect it and reconnect it agian, the speed can go to 120Mbps. After this second registration on wireless access point, it always streaming normaly fast no matter how many times of disconnect and reconnect. Is there anybody also experiencing this problem? Any suggestion will be appreciated. I tried using Lenovo manager of other version also, the problem wouldn't go away.

Hello,

I have a Lenovo Ideapad U330p laptop, and I've tried to replace the wireless network card on this model from the Intel 7260 N to an Intel 7260 AC. But the hell did I get for it, because when I started up the computer, I got an error that caused your computer could not boot.

I have checked this error message on Google search and on some online forums on the internet and it seems that you at Lenovo have added to the list in the BIOS / UEFI called 'white list' that controls the hardware of your computer based on a list where products is the = Approved, and products that are not on the list = Non Approved / Blocked for this model and make that you can not upgrade their computer needed the drivers are the same as the original Intel 7260 N, the only thing that prevents me from Upgrade my computer's 'White List' and should be removed from off the BIOS so that the end user can upgrade their computer without having to buy a new computer for the 700-1100 dollars, when a new network card only cost 25 dollars.

Had I known this before I bought my Lenovo computer, you had never bought a Lenovo PC, but continued with HP that you can upgrade without problems.

I will not buy any new Lenovo computer, as long as you use these methods.

I think it is wrong of you as a manufacturer to do it this way, I jar had HP before and have upgraded them several times without problems, but now I wanted to try a different manufacturer because of design, price, weight, ... Read more

Did not find any details about the compatibility with this unit and therefore I don’t think that someone will be able to provide your precise information about the compatibility…

Mostly the compatibility depends on the BIOS… so in case the BIOS would be able to handle the module, the OS should recognize it properly…

So I guess you will need to try it out…

Answer:ThinkPad X1 Carbon (type 20A7): which Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 is compatible

Hello and welcome,

You've run into the BIOS whitelist.  A card must be a supported model (7260) AND have a Lenovo FRU number (04W3844 or 04X6007).  A "vanilla" 7260 won't pass the whitelist check and you'll get the 1802 error.

Howdy

I recently started an internship in Egypt about a week ago. When I first got here the wireless internet worked fine (albeit a bit slow) in my apartment and around the campus. However last thrusday the Wifi on my laptop quit working. I have a Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN that has Windows 7 RC on it right now. The adapter picks up the signal but when you try and connect it gives 'limited connectivity " = no internet. I tried using the Troubleshooter but when used it just says that The Diagonostic Policy service is not running and therefore it cannot fix the the problem. I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this problem.

Thanks

try this either set a hard coded dns

or hard code the ip if you know what your network ip address numbers are
that your access point uses

so say some thing like
this is very very common here

IP: 192.168.1. 100-150
SUBNET: 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY:192.168.1.1

and find a dsn server

dont use them numbers there just make sure that your using the right set for the network that your connecting too
i have the same card in my laptop and its a work horse and some

also is the network that your connecting too secure make sure you have your settings right

Hi I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW11E Laptop with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.
On the front is a switch to turn of the Wireless adaptor & a little green light that goes out when you switch it off.
Normally when I turn on the computer it comes on automatically but sometimes it does not & when I look at Device manager it is missing. The only way I can fix it is to turn the computer off & on again. Sometimes I have to do this several times before it will work.
It also goes off by itself if the computer is left on for any length of time without being used.

any ideas ?

Ok I have a Asus G60VX thats less than a year old running windows 7. On Friday (three days ago) the system was working fine, I could connect to the internet and everything. Tonight when i turned on my laptop it showed that i couldn't connect to the internet. So i rebooted both my computer and router thinking it was my brother playing Xbox live. It still didn't work. So i tried the usual suspects: deleted the saved file and made a new one, went into the device manager and made sure there weren't any problems (there weren't), i even tried doing a system restore but to no avail. I tried the Fn combo on my keyboard and the switch on the front but this still didn't work. After three hours searching for a solution on my desktop (which can access the internet fine) I kinda want to take a sledge hammer to the thing. :) So at this point i'm begging for a solution! thanks!

Answer:Problem with Intel WiFi link 5100?

Hi.

Did you install any iTunes or Apple software before this happened?

For now, try resetting the network protocol tcp/ip stack. In an elevated command prompt, copy and paste this then hit enter:

Code:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
Then do the same for this command:

Code:
netsh winsock reset
Reboot and test the connection. If still no good, go into Internet Explorer.

Tools | Internet Options | Connection | Lan Settings

and make sure there are no checked boxes. Then ok your way out a few times. Reopen IE and test.

If still no good, please respond about the Apple, iTunes software and/or do you have mdnsresponder.exe in the task manager?

I've been having issues with my laptop and its wifi card for the past couple of months. It's an Intel WiFi Link 5100 and my internet just randomly stops working, other computers and devices still work fine, but on my computer I cannot browse the internet (however sometimes downloads don't stop for some reason). Updated my drivers, turning it off and on does nothing, and I'm pretty sure it's not my firewall but next time the internet stops working i'll make sure.

When I say it randomly stops working I mean I'll turn the computer on it will work for a bit then just stop then a little bit later it will work. No other computers or devices experience those kind of pulses here.

Hello, I'm trying to get wifi working on my x200, but nothing I try seems to work. Initially, in XP or Windows 7, the card wasnt even detected, so wouldn't come up in the unrecognized devices section in device manager.  I installed/uninstalled the drivers several times but nothing changed. I then opened up the Thinkpad and moved the wifi card from the first slot to the second.  Upon booting, in Windows 7 and again in xp, the card was recognised, but a code 10 error came up. I've tried replacing the wlan card with one from an R60, but the x200's boot software prevented the PC from booting up. Can anyon help? Thanks John

Answer:X200 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

Update to my first note.  After a day of installing countless drivers, bios updates and whatever else.  I'm pleased to say that my x200 is now woking in XP with wifi on the 5100. The PCI slot the 5100 card was in to start with did not register any device to be present.  The second slot, recognised the card but gave a code 10 error. I also followed the steps outlined in: kbartke's post on resolving the code 10 on 5100 issue.  That had no immediate effect, but may have eventually solved the problem. I also updated the bios to 3.02. The strange thing that seemed to work was changing the machine's name.  Once restarted, the wifi light came on. I now have to figure out how to get rid of all the bloatware i managed to install in my attempts to get this working... John

Hi, since my WLAN Card seems to be broken I bought myself a new Intel Wifi Link 5100 for my W500. After I replaced the old card with the new one, I get a "1802 unauthorized network card error".I googled for the problem an now I am completely pissed about lenovo. My W500 has a standard slot for such cards, but the W500 has a bios which checks cards against a whitelist and I cannot turn this completely useless check off.Any idea what I could do?2 weeks ago I started thinking about buying a new notebook after christmas. Now I wonder, whether the W530 suffers from the same problem. In the moment I am not sure, whether it makes any sense to buy another lenovo product, when it turns out, it could be crippled the same way as my W500. So does anybody know, whether the W530 suffers the same problem. A last question? What happens, when I plug a WLAN-Stick into USB? Must it also be authorized by lenovo and how do I find out, which products are authorized? Thanks in advance Thomas

Answer:W500 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

welcome to the community.

sorry for your troubles.
afaik, all ThinkPads of at least the last 5(?) or more generations have had a BIOS whitelist for mPCI/e WLAN / WWAN options. as i understand it, this is due to getting approvals from numerous "Communications" regulatory agencies around the world for the cards. unfortunately, i've never seen the whitelists published anywhere, so we normally go by the FRU #s included in hardware maintenance manuals when folks ask for advice on compatible cards.

re: the USB WLAN stick, you should have no issue similar to a whitelist block.

regards.

it's still is but remember this is a free forum....
since airbot already gave you the lecture on the bumping threads im not going to go into that...
but what i can tell you to do in the throughput enhancement to turn it on...
also in wireless mode put it to 802.11n as i believe right now you are using 802.11g and not using the n spec...

also even in ideal situations you are not going to get the throughput specified in the n spec or advertised...
it says *up to* because that is the maximum speed that it will go and usually the hardware never reaches that speed....

Hello,         Im interested to use of WWAN in my laptop, My is Thinkpad T400, having with Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN.  please guide me with process accesing the simcard slot in laptop. Waiting for your reply. With Regards  Santhosh

Answer:Regarding using wwan in T400 with Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN

Hi,

I believe the SIM card slot is in the battery bay.  Remove the battery to access.

That Intel 5100 is a wifi card, not a wwan card.  Do you also have a wwan card installed, or is that what you are asking about?

Information on both (SIM and wwan card installation) is in the hardware maintenance manual: Hardware Maintenance Manual - T400 & R400

I have an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN and it keeps crashing my laptop. I would be working and my screen would freeze randomly and my computer would remain unresponsive. This only happens when I turn on my laptop's wireless card and put it to use.

I tried multiple drivers but the newer ones froze my computer faster. I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and it still does the same.

Uninstalling the driver and rebooting while letting Windows install a default driver yields the same results.

Much help needed!

Hi,

I just bought a Sony Vaio with Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 Network Adapter.

I primarily use the notebook at my home & office network.
Home Network Router: Linksys WRT54G
Office Network Router: Beetel 450BXi (ADSL2+Modem)

The issue am facing is while am on to the network (mostly home network) suddenly it goes into limited connectivity & gets disconnected; while other PC's remain connected.

And then you have to either re-install the Wireless LAN driver or re-start numerous times.

This has been happening regularly. Pls assist in resolving the issue.

This has been happening for the past three days. I just recently bought a laptop, the Toshiba Satellite A305-S6898, with Intel? WiFi Link 5100.

I would be just surfing on the internet and then the WiFi link would randomly just stop working. I would go to the available connections window, and the network i'm connected to would say 'Connected with limited connectivity', and then it would disconnect and then it would not be able to detect any networks, even though it previously did before. I know it's not a network problem because the same problem occured on two different networks I have set up in two different places. The device manager does not report anything wrong with it, and I did not randomly turn off the wifi for any reason. I would have to reset my laptop in order to fix the problem.

This is a new machine (to me). It is a T-500 2242CTO with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN card and a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit.  I successfully VPN using Ethernet from this machine and wirelessly from other machines in my home network.  However, wireless VPN connectivity from this machine fails 100% of the time.  Current drivers and updates are installed.  I am using the Windows VPN client and receive the following message: Error 800: The remote connection was not made because the attempted VPN tunnels failed.  I turned on logging and found no useful information, to me, in the mounds of data generated.  I've also un-installed the wireless driver, re-installed it, un-installed Lenovo Access Connections and the same error continues.  Has anyone encountered this issue or have suggested fixes?

Then I wonder if Lenovo 3000 N500 4233 series supports N network with the following network card Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.When I linked up with Rauter with N, so I got a speed of about 65 Mbps, but far away from thespeed of 100-130 Mbit/s +.I have spoken to Lenovo and received a reply to update drivers on all that goes too uppdate and see if it works. If I do not find them at Lenovo, I would go to Intel and Microsoft homepage to see if there were any new drivers.Slowly and soil, I made it and found newer drivers for the network card but to no avail.I spoke with Lenovo again and got the answer that it could not do more because the card was 65 Mbps, which is certain to N working. In other words, nothing is broken can not be repaired, even if it onlyperforms 1/4 of what it should be!I was still unhappy, I could go back to the medamarkt and return the machine.I wonder how somone can say something like that when intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNshall work up to 300 Mbps while It can't get more then 65 Mbits/s.For if I have 65 then I am on N linkage because the G only goes up to 54 Mbit/s.The most strange is that not only was the serier of Lenovo 3000 N500, having problems with Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNnot performing as it should. The answer I got was to either leave or wait until someone will solve the problem (Lenovo,Intel or Microsoft).Plus I have age machinery that works good in 130 Mbits/s without problems while a new can not?Strange thinking about this.So what do you do?Someone who knows ... Acer closed the thread on the wifi issues, but technically this is a "different subject" so I'll post it here. After receiving my 3rd R7, I finaly got one with working wifi. I say "working" because it did work reliabily. The range was not great, and the speed was also bad compared to other laptops, BUT it worked.... It was just slow... For typical internet access you would never notice it unless you had a very fast connection or you were transfering files on a local network. I think they actually fixed the problem, but the broadcom chips in these laptops still arent very good.SO, I still had that intel 7260 card laying around....(I had ordered it when I wasnt sure I was going to send my laptop off for repair)I ordered another 8GB of ram, and decided I was gonna open it up and upgrade the Ram and the wifi card.I am so glad I did. I am now getting GREAT results with wifi speed tests. I will say that the process is not for the faint of heart.I believe I damaged the connector on the old wifi card trying to get the antenna connectors unplugged. They were on there VERY snug and wanted to pull the connector apart from the card when removed. Maybe I should not have used needle nose pliers to do it, but I wasnt able to get it loose with my bare fingers. It looked very easy, with everything being very accessable, but proved to be much more of a pain than I originally thought. The 7260 is supposed to have bluetooth also, but I cant get it to work. Dears, I have been experiencing issues with weak WiFi signals after upgrading from Windows 8.1 to 10. Signal strenght and connectivity are very poor, even within 5 m from the WiFi router. At the same distance, other devices show full signal strength and experience no problems. I had no issues before upgrading to W10. I have updated the driver to the latest version. I have unchecked the option to allow the computer to turn of the device to save power. Unfortunately, weak signal and poor connectivity has not been resolved. Laptop: Acer Aspire V7-582GPAdapter: Intal Dual Band 7260Driver version: 18.11.0.8 Any advice to help resolving this issue is more than welcome!

Koektrommel,

Try removing the driver and restarting to have Windows 10 install their driver, see if that helps. The only other thing I can think of would be to go back to 8, remove the wireless driver before you start the upgrade process itself, and let it get installed through that process.

did you download the Lenovo driver, or did you down load the driver from Intel? Lenovo writes alot of their own drivers for things like wifi cards, its possible that by downloading Intel's driver, it isn't compatable with thinkpads.

Hey guys, I've been a X61T(tablet) user for over 2 years now and have never had WiFi connection issues, whatsoever. I upgraded to Windows 7 last year and things only got better.  But, today, after uninstalling a program called "Connectify", that basically transforms your laptop into a WiFi hotspot, my Wireless Radio JUST WON'T SWITCH ON! My Wireless Radio switch(that's in front) is on(I pushed it to the right). Up until yesterday, it was working great. I even used my Wireless Network to create a WiFi hotspot using Coonectify. I also deleted it from Connectify because it wasn't working. And then, I just uninstalled Connectify because I didn't see a point in creating a hotspot, when I have a Wireless Router at home. I rebooted my PC and Viola --- WIRELESS RADIO HAS BEEN DEAD! I don't see the green LED for WiFi on the extreme left blinking anymore. Gone!  Went to Device Manager and I didn't see any problems with the Intel WiFi Link 4695 Device driver. I still uninstalled it and downloaded the most recent one. STILL NOT WORKING! I checked the registries to see if I can find any entries from Connectify that may be causing the problem, but Nada! Nothing there as well! I'm feeling pretty downbeat because I got a new Wireless Router yesterday NETGEAR N-150 and not even 24 hours later, I'm back to using ETHERNET cable! I'd really appreciate it if someone can help me out here! Thanks.

We have fairly new HP DV7T laptops, with the internal Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN card..

We have been through 3 access points at this point, i just now confirmed that i dont think our issue is access point related, at least not the type etc...

Frequently these laptops will suddenly not find ANY networks (wireless ones) to connect to..

Other laptops (dell, asus, iphones) still work fine during these periods.

I've tried playing with configuration settings on the nic itself with no luck.

Currently we have a Dlink Dap-2553 access point.. set to the 2.4ghz mode (since we still have devices that need 2.4ghz)..

I'm not sure what to do to prevent this from happening, short of using express cards, which we dont want to do..

Anyone else ran into this?

Thanks

I have tried updating the driver several times.  I am at the most recent version of the driver, 13.3.0.24, and it is still not present as an option.  All I see is EAP-MSCHAPv2 and SmartCard or other certficate.  I do not have any of the Intel ProSet or ThinkAdvantage apps to manage wireless.  I tried to get rid of the vendor cruft.  Was that a mistake?

I purchased a T400 (which I LOVE so far) but like a fool, didn't opt for the 5300 3x3 WiFi for $15 more... after some post purchase research, I'd much rather have the extra antennae's for picking up those barely in wifi signals around my house.   Does anyone know if the 5300 card can simply be plugged in to replace the 5100?  It all comes down to whether the 3 antennae's are installed on ALL models, with the connectors ununsed when a laptop comes with the 5100.  Anyone know the answer to this? Regards,-Owen

Answer:Intel Dual Band 7260

Hi: You can't use an Intel wireless card in a computer with AMD hardware.  That is why it doesn't work.  And there is nothing you can do to make it work. Plus your notebook has to have 2 wireless antennas or you can't upgrade the wireless card at all unless you take the whole notebook apart including the display panel to add a second antenna. If your notebook has two antennas, and if you want a dual band wireless N card, you need to get a Broadcom one. Broadcom BCM943228HMB 802.11abgn 2×2 Wi-Fi Adapter, Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter --  HP Part # 730668-001

Hey guys and girls. First post in the forum here I'm about to upgrade some parts on my Pav G6 1344sa, namely replace the HDD with a SSD and replace the DVD drive with the HDD, replace the tired keyboard for a new one and upgrade the wifi card for a 5G dual band so i can untilize the speed of my newly installed fibre broadband. After a bit of research i have read there maybe issues getting the Intel AC 7260 card i just ordered to work in this notebook. Can anyone confirm if it will work? I read that some users have used a tweak of covering pin 20 and/or pin 51 with tape to make it compatible, anyone tried this or can explain how this works? Cheers

Answer:Intel AC 7260 Dual band wi-fi card compatibility

No it will not work and the covering of the pins is actually a Lenovo trick that I have never seen anybody recommend for an HP. I would think it will not work since the problem is a whitelist. The card has to prove to the BIOS what it is, not hide what it is from the BIOS so stopping the identification data from being read will just cause the wifi card to be rejected by the BIOS. As stated, there is a BIOS whitelist and only the specific HP branded wifi cards originally offered with the laptop will pass and allow the system to boot past BIOS. If you want that list just post back.

Hello, I had the unfortunate experience that my new L540 with factory installed Windows 7 64 bit professional dropped wireless connections after several minutes. This could only be correct be restarting the wireless driver. It took me about 5 hours to discover that the driver contains a known bug. I was almost at the point of returning the laptop as being defect until I found through google: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS036007 hidden on this page is the text  that the driver version there fixes the dropping of connection. None of the update software on the laptop suggested updating this driver and the above page is not so easy to find, or recognize that this is needed at first glance. After applying the above update the WLAN now works without problems. Googling reveals that I do not seem to be the only person with this problem, and the ones I found did not manage to find the solution to their problems. Rene.

I'm using a IdealPad Flex 15 Model Name 20309 the is now out of warranty. The factory installed Intel N 7260 WiFi adaptor stopped working so I bought a broadcom off eBay only to find out that the BIOS have a whitelist (that sucks).Anyhow I've found a Lenovo PN: 20-200480 from a Lenovo y50 on eBay and was wondering if it is perhapts a whitelisted PCI WiFi card compatible with my Flex 15? I want to stay away from the Intel WiFi adaptors all together. If it not whitelisted, can you provide me with a list of adaptors that are? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,-Ron

Answer:Flex 15 Intel WiFi N 7260

Hello and welcome,

The whitelisted models and their FRU numbers are listed in the Hardware Maintenance Manual - IdeaPad Flex14, Flex14D, Flex15, Flex15D

As you've discovered, a card must be a listed model AND have a Lenovo FRU number.  Also please verify that I've linked the correct HMM for your laptop model.

I also note that most of the listed cards are single band.

Z.

I love the yoga 2 pro but one compaint was the wireless card was weak and spotty on this great computer. So let's change that.  Fortunatey you can upgrade it fairly easily to the new wireless a/c like in the yoga 3 pro.  Just order up the right wi-fi card on Ebay or through amazon and do this quick fix. Here's the youtube link. Well worth it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqxPdv21_Mk  Be happy.

I am trying to connect to a secured wireless network that uses wpa, AES, mschap2 and authenticates based on the Windows logon.  I don't have the option for this combination in Access Connections.  I uninstalled AC and tried using windows and I get an error message "An unexpected error has occurred" when I select AES and click next.  I've installed the latest drivers both from Lenovo and Intel and nothing helps.  I have no problems with other machines, just this X300.  Any help would be appreciated.  This is my personal machine and I NEED wireless connectivity.

Answer:cannot connect to wireless with Intel wifi link 4965agn

Did you try re-installing the 4965agn software?

I know the problem is not with my router because my other non-Lenovo computers with Wireless N cards are getting signals much above 54.0MBPS. Is there something I have to enable or do you guys have any ideas? I have all the latest drivers installed.

Answer:Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN not getting above 54.0MBPS

Your router must be 802.11n Draft 2 compliant  and  have dual band support (2.4GHz and 5GHz) to achive 802.11n speed with a fully Draft 2 compliant WiFi card like the Intel 4965AGN. Cheers, Bill

Greetings,
After installing Win7 Prof x64 everything with WiFi was working correctly. Yesterday I wanted to try Vista x64 driver with Connection Utility. In the device manager it shows that device is working corectly but in fact it is not working at all. Uninstalling connection utility didn't help and windows cannot find any driver at the HDD or in windows update.

Any idea what could be done to fix it?

Answer:Problem with Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

Uninstall it totally, restart, and let Windows reinstall it.

Hello, I just got my E560 on 9/27/16. It has windows 7, 64 pro installed. I plugged in the battery and waited an hour or so before turning the system on. Everything booted ok and I entered my hidden router for my wifi. Unfortuanly, it would not connect. I finally dug out an old ethernet cable to hook up and test the system and download some software. I then unhid my router and still was not able to find it. Everyones router in the neigborhood showed up but mine. I call tech support but they claimed that it was my routers software. I have 4 other devices working just fine on the wifi and I even set my printer up for wifi while the router was hidden with no problem. I checked the Lenovo site for updates but the system said everything was up to date. I went to the Intel site and downloaded their current driver for this card. The laptop finally noticed the router while it was unhidden and I again hid the router and rebooted my Laptop. This cured the problem. However, I was displeased with Customer service they tried to tell me it was a problem with my router and not the system and all my drivers shipped from the factory were up to date. I hope this will help anyone who has a similar problem.
