TrackPoint scrolling hangs after awake from suspend

Question: TrackPoint scrolling hangs after awake from suspend

I installed Windows 7 64 bit on my Lenovo ThinkPad R61 model 8918, which has Alps TrackPad and TrackPoint. However it is well known problem that when the computer is awaken from suspend or hibernation it loose ability to scroll (in my case TrackPoint stop scrolling with middle button pressed). I tested over 7 different ALPS driver versions found on the Internet, but any of the does not have scrolling type 1 for TrackPoint (standard smooth scrolling with scrollbar cursor). On couple forums people wrote that ALPS drivers from late 2010 have the problems with loosing scrolling fixed. However Lenovo Support did not release any new version of the driver for Windows 7 for model 8918 (with Alps stuff). Is it possible that someone at Lenovo would take mercy on us, users of 8918 with Windows 7, and release newest drivers from ALPS with all the stuff related to ThinkPads trackpoints???

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: TrackPoint scrolling hangs after awake from suspend

I believe you need the UltraNav drivers, not the ALPS drivers.

I have just bought a Thinkpad R61i - 7650-E9G. Each time the machine resumes from being put to sleep (Closed the lid, or Fn+F4) The track point fails to respond. A Reboot is required for it to come back to life. The machine came with Vista which had this problem, I have just downgraded to XP with the Lenovo disks, but still the same problem. I have tried setting the TrackPoint to Enabled and back to Automatic, updated all drivers, still no luck. Has anyone seen this before? Should I just get a replacement from the supplier? Many Thanks,Andrew.

Using a W550s that had Windows 10 that was upgraded from Windows 7. The trackpoint doesn't work all the time when coming out of suspend/hibernate. It works maybe 10-20% of the time. The trackpad works fine.  Once I reboot, it works again.  I'm running the latest BIOS and all the latest drivers.

I have a T61 that is having a problem with the trackpoint scrolling feature occasionally.  What happens is when I push the middle button, and try to scroll, the window scrolls like its supposed to, but the pointer also moves.  Then when the pointer reaches the edge of the area I'm scrolling, the scrolling stops, and I have to move the pointer back in before I can scroll again.  I have the scrollign settings configured for standard (ie, not smooth or auto-detect).  I have also set the touchpad to be for scrolling and tap zones only (I don't know whether this has anything to do with the problem).  The latest driver (7.5.17.27) is installed.  Any ideas about what else I can try? Thanks,Justin

Answer:Trackpoint scrolling problem

I remember seeing this option in the mouse settings, advanced, where it had check box to use one or the other or both in re to touchpad or the red tip mouse.. I had no issue with it, I tried to recreate your issue but am not willing to screw this one up, sorry. Try that area and also see if the mouse driver is selecting the correct one, and if there is a post bios setting for the mouse functions. Now days with usb mouse, PS2, trackpoint, touchpad, infrared, wireless, we need things simple like a carnival ring toss on to coke bottles.

Answer:trackpoint scrolling on T21 not working

If you need to reinstall the Trackpoint driver for your unit, here is the link below: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4KMUYL Download and save this file to the desktop and the open the folder and run the setup.exe file You might also need the Trackpoint Accessibility Driver, which can be found here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4Z9QVD See if installing these two drivers will help you. If the drivers are installed correctly and you are still having problems with the trackpoint scrolling, it could possibly be a mechancial issue and the part would need replacement. Let me know if this helps you any. Mark

Hi!First: this is no problem-request but a solution for everybody with the same problem. I had the problem, that TrackPoint scrolling did not work in some programs. There are some posts available about correcting this issue, but there seems to be a change in the driver, so there needs to be done some changes. I mainly will refer to this post from Elad Karako, because it has a list of programs, where scrolling does not work. This post, the same as others, recommends to edit the file TP4table.dat in the C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP directory. I just updated my T540p with a 3-button touchpad and had the problem, that in some applications the TrackPoint scrolling does not work (Notepad++, Total Commander, ...)Unfortunately the rules did not work. But in newer drivers there is a further option available. The flags has been updated with the option16 Rule indicate the apply this to IBM Stick Scrolling when ScrollMethood is Synaptics. This means, that if the rule should apply to the scrolling done with TrackPoint, the flag needs to be increased by 16. I also had the problem, that the listed option WheelStd did not work in my case. After playing around I found out that Standard worked. So I updated the rules to the following and added them to the upper part of the file TP4table.dat: ; Process Explorer
*,*,*,*,*,PROCEXPL,Standard,0,25
; Notepad++ and Notepad2
*,*,*,*,*,Scintilla,Standard,0,25
*,*,*,*,*,Notepad2U,Standard,0,25
*,*,*,*,*,Notepad++,Standard,... Read more

Answer:TrackPoint scrolling not working

Excellent detective work both here and with one line scrolling; the TP4table.dat compatibility listing doesn't seem to have been updated for a long time.

I am using MS Office 2007 on my Lenovo X60 with 2GB RAM and Win XP Proffesional.  I cannot scroll pages in MS Word 2007 using the standard scrolling type setting in the mouse properties dialog box in the control panel.  When I change the scrolling type setting to auto-select I am able to scroll but the scrolling is so fast that I cannot control it. Moreover, the scrolling does not work at all in either standard or auto-select mode in some of the MS Office dialog boxes.  I have upgraded to the latest trackpoint driver, but that does not seem to improve the situation.  Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Answer:Trackpoint scrolling speed on X60

I think that when you set the scrolling type in mouse properties to auto, you simply use the standard mouse-wheel click auto-scrolling feature of Office. Check if you can find any Office setting that allows you to adjust the auto-scrolling speed.

One of the more persistent (of several) problems plaguing my P50 (20EN) is the spastic, herky-jerky scrolling when using the TrackPoint with middle button. This is far and away the worst trackpoint I have ever used, and I've used a lot of trackpoints over the last 20 years. There are only two TrackPoint settings on this machine, and neither is relevant to this issue:? The 'ThinkPad' tab in the Windows 10 'Mouse Properties' panel has a checkbox to enable and disable TrackPoint globally and radio buttons to select the middle button function.? The Synaptics Control Panel has a slider for controlling the TrackPoint scrolling speed. TrackPoint has always stood out on my list of reasons for buying ThinkPads in the first place, so this is issue particularly poignant for me, and, frankly, I'm close to my wit's end on this one. Please, someone tell me there exists a solution.

I have a t430 2342CTO with the latest ultranav drivers installed. I have seen screenshots of older versions of the driver where you can select smooth scrolling for the trackpoint. I was wondering if there is any way to enable this behavior in the current driver. Also, is there any way I can change the amount of lines scrolled by the trackpoint? Changing the windows setting only seems to affect the touchpad, not the trackpoint. Perhaps there is a registry setting or something?

When scrolling with the trackpoint, I find that the pages don't roll as smooth as the older Thinkpads did. My T410 scrolls much more smoothly than my X250, and I'm thinking that it is a driver issue. I have the latest Synaptics driver, which would be 18.1.27.14. I've tried rolling back the drivers, and it still doesn't improve the scrolling issue. Did anyone else experience this problem? Has anyone fixed it? Also, as an aside, I've found that I could not play FPS games with trackpoint. The left and right buttons don't click immediately after typing. I always get killed right after sprinting because I'm standing there, unable to shoot. Other than that, the trackpoint is suprisingly easy to use for games.

Hi all, I pretty much always use my Trackpoint to scroll (with the middle button). But several sites I visit see horizontal scrolls as triggers to change page. So, I'll be reading a page, scrolling down via the Trackpoint -- and at some point I'll have deviated enough from vertical to trigger the horizontal behavior -- and I'll then be shuttled off to a page I don't mean to be on. Is there any way to configure the Trackpoint scroll to ONLY scroll vertically? If not, is there perhaps a way to get Google Chrome to stop listening to the horizontal scroll? Thanks, it's actually quite a PITA for some sites I visit.

Hi guys, I'm Alex, newly subscribed user to your Thinkpad forum, and here to ask for your help (if possible) ! Here is what I'm facing right now on my old (but still working like a charm) W510 :Quite happy to move away from Windows 8, I recently accepted to make the upgrade to the newest Microsoft OS : windows 10 64bits. It didn't take long to get used to it and I haven't had any issues with the programs I am using daily. But... I am having troubles with my trackpoint scrolling method. On both Chrome and Edge browsers installed on my computer, scrolling is buggy/laggy/not smooth at all. Web pages seem to "stick" a bit to much which makes jumps every time you try to scroll with the trackpoint. On the touchpad it is better but not so good either. It is really not a big issue but it can drive you a bit crazy after some time... Surprinsingly, scrolling is great on the OS. The issue is only happening on some programs. After looking around on the web, I am pretty sure that the issue is coming from the UltraNav driver. Since everything was working great on 8.1, I decided to reinstall the old driver (UltraNav 16.2.19.14). And as expected, it worked ! Scroll was back to what it was before, but not working on Microsoft Edge. I am using Chrome so I didn't pay much attention to that anyway. But since Windows 10 doesn't let you choose the updates that are installed , the issue came back when Windows Updates automatically installed the supposedly "newest a... Hello, Is there a way to have both - scrolling with trackpoint while holding the middle mouse button - and - being able do a middle click with the middle mouse button? I can accomplish this easily under Linux like it is described here. But under Windows it seems to be impossible. I can only have either middle clicking or trackpoint scrolling. I need both.  If anyone knows a solution to this please let me know. Walter (I have a X200s and Windows 7 x64 installed)

Hello, everyone! I'm having an issue with zooming inside autocad using the center mouse button on the laptop and the trackpoint. Whenever I try to zoom using the trackpoint, my drawing disappears and the entire autocad window seems to move up or down. Using the mousewheel on a USB mouse works just fine. Research about this issue reveals that it has been common for thinkpads since at least the T60, but all such questions go unanswered. Please tell me if there is a way to use the trackpoint to zoom and pan. I'd really like to enjoy the benefit of not having to take my hands off the keyboard to use the mouse.

Hello everyone, I searched a bit both these forums and others but haven't found the solution to this problem I'm experiencing. I recently bought a used T430 and I've been using it for the last couple of days, trying to get used to trackpoint and all. I performed a clean windows install and installed a Win 10 education my university provides. I followed the advice on Lenovo webpage about letting Windows update do its thing first and then run the Lenovo System Update utility to update drivers as necessary. Everything's working nicely other than some issues with the trackpoint buttons (the 3 buttons just below the space bar are called the trackpoint buttons I guess?)  Anyway, the issue is that before I did a fresh install, the middle button when pushed entered the scroll mode which then let me scroll using the trackpoint. Now it still enters the scroll mode but also does a right-click when I let go. This leads to an issue where a right-click is performed at every scroll step(if that makes sense) which leads to wonky scrolling. One other issue is that the right button does nothing at all. I expected the middle button to only have scroll functionality and the right button to simply right-click.  Things I've tried so far: - Manually removed the pointer device and ran Lenovo system update again to update the UltraNav drive, and also disabled auto-driver installation of windows update. The driver version installed by System Update is 19.0.17.115.&nb... Read more

My question concerns middle-button-scrolling for the Trackpoint on the Yoga 260, which seems to use an Elantech device and driver. Most of the time when I try to use the middle button to scroll, it starts off trying to scroll horizontally, which I then have to overcome to scroll vertically. I'm using the ultranav middle button to scroll (I live for this feature which is why I've been buying thinkpads since time immemorial) However, on the t460, scolling with the middle button/nubbin is painfully slow in Word 2007, and Adobe Acrobat/Reader is a nightmare. In Word its just slow and you have to use a lot of pressure on the nubbin (there appears to be no setting to change this). In Acrobat, it's agonizingly slow (in both Reader and Pro) and will "stick" on if you try to go to fast and just scrolling for multiple seconds after you release the button.  Stragely, the trackpad scrolling works fine in Word, though it is still bad in Acrobat.  In addition, the middle button scrolling will frequently slip and stop scrolling, sending the pointer to the bottom of the page.  Nubbin/middle button scrolling works (oddly) extremely well in Microsoft Edge... Please help! Middle button scrollig with the nubbin is the best feature on these machines.  Using: T460 Windows 10 64-bit with the latest drivers.

Hi all, I really like using the Trackpoint to scroll. But an increaing number of Web sites react to horizontal scrolling by jumping to other pages. So, for example, if I'm reading down a page -- and if I need to use the Trackpoint to scroll down as I'm reading -- if I'm not perfectly vertical when I pull down on the Trackpoint, the Web site detects it as a horizontal scoll, and I get whisked off to another page. I can't be the only person having this problem? Is there some way to disable the Trackpoint from scrolling horizontally without disabling it from scrolling vertically?

I enabled the "tap zones" feature in the Synaptics touchpad settings and configured the zones to right click and middle click. I notice that sometimes the zones stop working while tapping and navigating are still ok. It turns out that scrolling with the middle button and the trackpoint somehow prevents the tap zones from working.A quick fix is to move the cursor using the trackpoint, move it again using the trackpad, then the zones will function normally. However the fix isn't permanent.I hope that Lenovo / Synaptics will address this small issue in the next touchpad driver update.

When trying to suspend, some 1 out of three time the system hangs in the blue screen (Ruhezustand wird vorbereitet/suspend is being prepared), the only way to 'fix' it is to hard reset it with the power button.

Once it comes to the black screen, everything is usually fine.

Any suggestions on how to debug this (once it hangs, keys don't work anymore, I don't know if there's a log somewhere)? Or - even better - did someone else have this problem and fix it?

Last night (4/6/2017) an automatic Windows update just now decided to install the most recent Synaptics driver (titled Synaptics - Mouse - 1/11/2017 12:00:00 AM - 19.3.4.66), which apparently is nearly 3 months old at this point.  One thing this update seems to have fixed is an issue I?ve been having with my ThinkPads for upwards of 7 years ? randomly it resets my mouse wheel 'number of lines scrolled per notch' option back to 1 (I prefer 3) pretty much daily, which is a HUGE annoyance, so I?m very grateful for this update and I?d like to keep it. However, it also completely disabled middle click scrolling with my TrackPoint (yes, I have ?Use for scrolling? checked under the TrackPoint settings).  The middle button does nothing now, unless I check ?Use as middle click?.  Rolling back the Synaptics driver to the previous one fixes this issue. Confoundingly, the TrackPoint scrolling with my ThinkPad Bluetooth keyboard still works fine. Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Any ideas how to re-enable TrackPoint scrolling on this newest driver? System details:ThinkPad P50 ? Question:I have a T42 ThinkPad and the vertical scrolling with TrackPoint's middle button won't work on MS Word and therefore not in my email either. Big pain in butt as I'm so used to using it. Are there any patches that fix that? Any ideas on why it won't work?

Issue 1: When I vertical scroll in a web page (Chrome & MSIE) by dragging TrackPoint (stick) while holding down left UltraNav button, the cursor moves but the web page fails to scroll, or demonstrates scroll latency of about .5 to 1 second behind the stick movement.  Sometimes, I have to try a couple times to get the scrolling to occur. Issue 2: Very often I must double click on UI buttons and web page links with the UltraNav button, when I should, traditionally, only have to click once. Received the T510 about 7 days ago.  i5, Win7 64bit, integrated graphics.  I've disabled all eye candy and set theme to classic.  Updated to latest available UltraNav and display driver.  I've tried just about every adjustment in the mouse and UltraNav settings, going as far as disabling the touchpad and touchpad filters. Synaptics driver info:Driver provider: SynapticsDriver date: 3/24/2011Driver version: 15.2.19.0Download from: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-66898File: 6hgx37ww  This is truly annoying and I'm about to return this laptop.  I hate to resort to that.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  I've used a T43 and T61 for the last 7 years at work and never had this issue.  I love T-model Thinkpads, but this is a poor experience.

At certain relatively slow speeds the scrolling jumps huge leaps regularly (probably after evey page or so). It's very bad with Chrome and Windows explorer, not so bad but noticeable in Thunderbird. I have set the scrolling to 1 line. My Synaptics drivers are the newest 10/04/2015. Also the treshold to start scrolling with middle button and trackpoint is very high - can't be that hard to make it smooth, so you could scroll very slowly? Please fix this soon... it's impossible to live with.

On my L420, i had it set so i can move the mouse with my thumb and scroll with my index finger with the center trackpoint button.

However, the Ultranav options are different for the W541, so, (as far as i can tell) i can't find the option to replicate this.

See screenshots of my configuration.

Basically, i want my center trackpoint button to be always in "scroll" mode, without the need to press the middle button and scroll like on the L420.

Hello. First time poster hoping someone can provide me with some insight. I have a 64-bit HP dv6-2155dx, with 4 GB RAM and I am running Windows 7. When I have multiple Internet Explorer tabs open, and I am scrolling over the thumbnail previews of these tabs down in the taskbar area to see what pages are currently open, every few minutes or so my cursor will hang/freeze for a split second and then go skip back to normal movement. It doesn’t matter if I am using my touchpad mouse that is on my laptop or a wireless mouse via USB. It’s becoming kind of annoying. My question - Is this a common issue?
Is it stemming from typical high CPU usage and I should "just live with it"? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide me.

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 14. 2Gb Memory Core2Duo.

I can;t scroll Sideways but I can going up and down.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Dell Touchpad not scrolling Sideways. But scrolling Up & Down

On both my Acer aspire one netbook (synaptics) and my Lenovo notebook (alps) I need to tab twice on the lower edge of the touchpad (to gain its attention?!?) and then it will scroll. Beyond that I believe you need to take a walk on the Dell support web site. There are number of 14xx models so you need to follow the steps there to find the freshest driver for your particular model. On both of mine the newest drivers have given scrolling as well as "pinching" to re-size pages, photos etc.

Question: Freeze on awake

Hey,

Sometimes when my PC comes back up from hibernation (hybrid sleep enabled) it freezes so stiff that even the reset button stops working. The screen updates once so the clock widget on my taskbar shows the current time for a second. Sometimes the HDD light stays lit, other times it doesn't. I let it be for a few minutes but nothing happened, no BSOD. I checked the logs but could not find an event at the exact minute the freeze occurred, I only had stuff from when it went to hibernation and after the forced restart. I don't know how to continue the investigation.

Answer:Freeze on awake

Hi, Can you advise whether this used to work and now fails?
If so, what significant changes have been made before you noticed the failure?

Please try hibernation after a clean boot

If that fails the same way, repeat in Safe Mode
(E.g. Shift + click on restart, and navigate thru prompts to Safe Mode, or choose Safe Boot in msconfig)

If that fails, also run
chkdsk C: /F
from an elevated (admin) command prompt

I've owned an XPS 420 for several years now, running it under XP; factory default is Vista. Today I was trying to do a factory restore, but it didn't seem to work; Vista was installed, but all my old files remained. I take it I was supposed to have done a repair, rather than an install, but I can work on that issue later.

Right now, I can't get the damn thing to stay awake long enough to actually run troubleshooting. Every time I boot it up, in about one to ten minutes the monitor shuts off- Digital power saving- and I can't get it to wake up. I've tried two different monitors, both digital. I'm trying to dig up an old analog connector at the moment, but I'm not sure I still have the analog port on the XPS.

Either way, if I CAN'T get an analog, is there something else I can try here? I backed everything up, since I was planning to do a clean sweep anyways, but I'd like to have a working computer all the same.

Hi,
Selecting START - SLEEP works fine, but waking up does not work.
My one month old, brandnew bought pc does not come awake from sleep.
Pc is built around a ASUS motherboard P8Z77-V LE
CPU Intel(R) Core(TM)i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50 GHz
8 Gb DDR3memory
Gigabyte graphics card GV-R577SL-1GD (ATI HD5770)
Operating system Windows 7 SP1
SP/2 Keyboard

All drivers for the hardware and software are up to date.

On the PC housing there is the (soft) ON/OFF button with Power Led.

A lot of e-mails with Support.Asus.com and trying different
settings and other experiments did not lead to a solution.

As written above, the pc can be switched into Sleepmode by
selecting START-SLEEP under Widows or
pressing the ON/OFF switch of the pc (default programmed so).
In both cases the Power Led is flashing now.
The led in the USB Optical Mouse is then switched off.
The Num Lock led on the keyboard stays ON.
As soon I press one of the key's of the PS/2 keyboard to
initialize the pc to awake, the flashing Power Led of the pc is then switched off.
There is still a voltage on the keyboard because the Num Lock led is still on.
The led in the USB Optical Mouse is still off.
The only wayup to now to switch the pc back on is to unplug the pc from the mains, wait till the Num Lock led
is switched off and then plug the mains back.
Then you will get the black Windows screen to start up Windows on the normal way
but the data which was in memory is lost.
I have experimented
- by updating the BIOS,
- by res... Read more

Answer:PC does not come awake from SLEEP-mode

Most sleep problems are Display driver-related.

Run Windows Updates to see if there are Important or Optional Windows Updates to install including drivers, after enabling Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3).

If no Display driver deliverred via Updates then update the latest Display driver from the OEM's Support Downloads webpage.

I just upgraded to Windows 10. The jury is still out if I like it better than Windows 7, but I think so. One big problem is nothing I've done will adjust the power setting to keep my laptop from going to sleep. I notice that there is not an option for "dim the screen" I doubt this is why or where I can tell my computer to stay awake, but all other power options won't take hold, meaning, I tell the computer to NEVER sleep and three minutes later, my computer is sleeping. Is this a kink that Windows needs to fix? Is anyone else having this issue?

Answer:Windows 10 can't stay awake

My computer won't stay awake either, and once it goes into sleep I cannot get it out of sleep without manual restart, this is really a pain, I updated graphics driver as I saw that as a suggestion but it didn't help. Hoping an update/fix comes soon.

Answer:awake from sleep or hibernation

theoldmapman,You can go into the power management settings and change the settings to not allow the system to enter sleep/hibernate. To wake the system up you can just barely push the power button in and it should wake back up. You do not have to hold the power button down until it shuts off.

I've turned all energy saving programs off and everything associated except the screensaver? which has my photos of my family scrolling over randomly which I like.

How can I keep it active all the time?

Yesterday bought a new laptop and even in the setup wizard straight out of the box the machine keeps dropping in to hybernate (atleast I assume thats what it is). It does this while I am typing not just if it is not being used. I litrally get a few minutes between it going off. Picture turning it back on after each question in the setup wizard. That is how bad it is. No error messages - despite being unusable it is perfectly happy with what its doing. Tried to check for new drivers etc but it says there are none - not sure if thats true it did keep having to be woken up and relogged in to throughout that process. Had its internet connection as both LAN and Wirless - both seem to work but it is no more likely to stay awake. It has power and a fully charged battery so I dont think its that.  I haven't loaded anything on to it that it was not set up with in the factory. Suggestions?

so here is my issue, i have a ftp server that goes to sleep after 2 minuets of inactivity, cool it will save me on my electricity bill, i send a magic packet to wake it when i need it, hears the issue, filezilla server will not keep it awake when somebody is logged into it, so when im out and about, i can wake it up, just into it with filezilla client but it then will sleep after two minuets because apparently it doesnt realize i am logged into it. how do i allow this program to keep the pc awake, i have a feeling that if there is a way then it will keep it awake forever considering the server end is allways running when the pc is on, id like to set it to stay on if somebody is logged in. but i may have to see filezilla forums for that .

Answer:allowing program to keep pc awake

Hello hook,

I probably cannot answer your question, but I may know an alternative solution. You could make your computer save power but be on all the time. let me know if this is something you may be interested in.

I am running Windows 10 64 bit (upgraded from W8.1). I have all the latest driver updates as of today. However since upgrading to W10 the laptop will not wake up from sleep. I have to force a hard shutdown by pressing the power button for a few seconds. A more precise description of the problem is that the laptop seems to a partial enter sleep mode - the screen is off, but the computer is still running, and is unresponsive to the keyboard and mouse.  I am using Bios version 96CN30WW(V1.16) I am thinking that this is probably a Bios issue. Anyone else having the same problem? Edit: I found the issue reported here https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-10/Lenovo-Yoga-2-13-won-t-shut-down-Windows-10/m-p/2142113 and here https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-10/Yoga-2-13-laptop-Windows-10-issues/td-p/2128415

Can I make the Task Scheduler keep my computer awake somehow by executing a keypress every 10 minutes? I use a gov computer and it automatically puts my computer asleep about every 15 minutes and it drives me nuts! How can I make it stay awake?

Admin privileges have been taken away so I can't change the power scheme. I used to be able to do this with an Excel macro but I just got a new computer and now I do not have developer access in excel so I am trying to find another workaround.

Thanks, Joe

Answer:I need a workaround to keep computer awake

That is a policy put in place by the Government IT and you should not be trying to circumvent it. If the settings do not work for you you need to contact your IT and see if it is possible to adjust it but for security reasons that may be a firm policy. And as such we refuse to assist with government/corporate owned computers.

My monitor-go-to-standby power option stopped working about a week ago. The setting I use is supposed to put the monitor into standby after 15 minutes, the system into standby after 1 hour, and hibernate after 5 hours. The system standby and hibernate haven't worked since I installed Norton Security Suite for Comcast 2-3 months ago, which I attribute to the fact that NSS checks for updates frequently, which I assume the computer regards as "activity". But I don't understand why the monitor no longer goes to standby when it had been working until a week ago.

Q1. Anybody know why this happened?
Q2. Anybody know a way to make the system follow the power options with Norton Security Suite or Norton Internet Security 2010 active (NSS is essentially identical to NIS 2010, but has a few additional features)?

Hi DKTaber,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

The problem you are having with your monitor can be due to a problem with the video driver or Power Management settings in Windows. While it is doubtful that Norton is causing this problem, please follow the step below to properly remove Norton, test and then reinstall Norton Security Suite.

1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool:

Hi. I've had my Microsoft Band for awhile now, and have had this problem since I got it. I set my Microsoft Band to sleep mode, and head to bed. During the night, I don't wake up at all. In the morning, I look on my Band and app, and it says I woke up a lot during the night. These numbers are anywhere from 8 times a night to 22 times a night. I've contacted Microsoft about this issue, and have done numerous soft resets and band replacements. Yet, I have the same result. I've tried wearing my band every way possible, left and right arms, screen facing up and down. I've also tried automatic sleep detection with the same results. I don't know if I'm just active (moving) when sleeping, or I need to change some settings. Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Why does my Microsoft Band think I'm awake when I'm not?

It's very disappointing. Hopefully Band 2 is the real deal

Since I've updated to the W10 anniversary update, I've been plagued with an issue that most times when I wake my computer from sleep, there is no login option for me to take. It's simply my background with my picture.
The only option I can take is to reset my computer.
This happens for both written passwords and picture passwords.
I've attached a photo for reference.
I'm using a surface pro 3.
Any idea what it might be? Whatever the issue is, I'm getting fed up with it.
Thanks

My computer will restart when going into sleep mode and even after shutting down. I need this to stop because it is wasting my battery. I changed the sleep mode settings in power options and changed reboot properties in Task Scheduler for the computer not to restart automatically.
I need to fix this problem ASAP

My T500 has issues when it goes to sleep (30 minutes with the monitor powered off and the hard drive barely spinning. Apparently I can't wake the system up and them monitor never turns on. I can feel the hard drive spinning and the battery is being charged but it never wakes up. I tried hitting the space bar, the power button and other keys but nothing happens. I am forced to hold the power button just to turn it off. Fn + Sleep Key doesn't do anything.

Okay, I know that I've seen this question asked previously, but I was having a hard time pulling it up in search.

I'm currently running Windows 7 Home Premium and have the sleep mode set to the defaults (which means I believe the monitor turns off after 10 minutes and the hard drive turns off after 30 minutes).

The problem is that when I am downloading a large file, or doing a full system a/v scan or running a backup, I don't want to have to sit at the computer waiting until the task completes.

Is there an easy way to have Windows know that a task is being completed (CPU usage is high) and therefore it shouldn't go into sleep mode?

Disabling the sleep mode isn't much of a good option either, as its nice to set the backup to run while I go sleep a couple hours. I don't want to have to wake up in an hour or two to turn off the computer.

Answer:keep Windows awake during long downloads?

Set it to go to sleep several hours later? I'm not sure...

Since about a couple months ago my PC running Vista SP2 auto awake from hybernate or sleep during the night. I have checked on updates, etc., but the issue continues. Why is that happening and how ti fit it?

Answer:PC auto awake from hybernate or sleep

I am not sure this will help but see if you have a setting in BIOS called Wake on LAN. If you do then disable it.

Also check your network adapter settings as shown here.

Answer:Satellite L300D doesn´t awake

What happen when you press power button? Is there some reaction?
Have you done anything that can be responsible for this?

You cannot do anything about that. Toshiba offers WIN based BIOS updates only.

When I open Windows Explorer my NAS drives have the red X over them like they are disconnected. I click on them and they connect right away. The problem I am having is when I try to stream a movie from my NAS via my app it says "path not found". I then have to open Windows Explorer and click the red X of the drive I want to access. After I re-establish my connection to the drive, my movie will stream from the app. How do I keep the drive connections alive? This is not a NAS setting. This changed when Windows did it's last major upgrade.

BSOD of death when I awake (I think that's the right term) my Windows 7 Pro system in the morning after I put it to Sleep the previous night. The happens occasionally over the last four weeks. It is not every morning just once a week or so. From the picture of the screen (screen.zip) there is a USBPORT.SYS always showing so does that mean it's always the same problem? A USB device or port?
Any help appreciated.

Answer:BSOD on awake after overnight Sleep.

Start by running sfc /verifyonly from and elevated command prompt (Run as Administrator). Report back with any messages.
Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

The USBPORT.SYS crash is mostly resulted in a USB Hub malfunction, do you have a USB hub connected at all?
This thread has this issue also.
