I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, the touchpad and trackpoint in my X220 notebook don't work. I've tried under Windows 7, 8, 10 x64, and Linux too, but no success. I've tried several drivers, UltraNav and Synaptics with no results. They are enabled in the BIOS (ver. 1.42). The device manager recognises the hardware as "This device is working properly." Please help.

The touchpad and trackpoint work up until the point where I login. They work on the login page, but not after. I am running Windows 7. When I go to the mouse settings, they are both disabled, but it is grayed out and won't let me enable them. When I click fn+f8, nothing happens. This problem has been occurring for about a week now...the pen still works as a mouse however, and that is what I have been using

I just got thinkkpad T570 (512 ssd, core i7, windows 10 pro, 16 ram, UHD).Usually the movement of touchpad is perfect, when I just move the point with doing nothing.  However, when I open pictures, setting and access to websites ( even this website), touchpad, trackpoint adn mouse are getting slower, does not move seconds, and losing the cursor, and moves sort time, this happens constantly, then eventuall, the cursor keeps freezing. I tried to move touchpad, track point and mouse, moreover, typing keyboard, nothing happens. but when I turn it off, into sleepying mode, and turn on. Then it works. Is there any solution to this issue?

I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues.  The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

Thinkpad Yoga user here.  I'm having a problem when I wake my computer up from sleep (or sometimes on re-boot) the trackpoint and touchpad do not work.  The touch screen is still fine and if I plug in a USB mouse the cursor shows up then. This has been happening intermittently over the past 2 months or so, it is becomming more frequent. It usually requires a hard reboot (where I hold the power button until the machine turns off) before the trackpoint and touchpad come back.  Recently even this hasn't worked every time.  It has come to the point where, if I put my computer into sleep, there's probably a 75% chance the pointers won't work when I wake it up and that it will require multiple re-boots to get them back. I don't know if this is an issue with the synaptic drivers (I've updated them, reverted to older versions, uninstalled and reinstalled but the problem continues). Or maybe it is a hardware problem, I'm not sure. If anyone (preferably lenovo) has any suggestions on how to fix this, I wold be very appreciative. Thanks!

Hi, if you have a Lenovo Thinkpad R500 and your touchpad is working with scroll in the MS apps, could you post which drivers you are using?

My touchpad works with scroll, but not in System, startmenu, Devices, Edge and Store.

Also Precision touchpad is missing alot in Mouse & touchpad.

This is how it should look like

If yours are showing everything, could you upload your registry files here.

Answer:Working Touchpad drivers for Thinkpad R500?

I have a Lenovo R500 with an "Alps Electric UltraNav" touchpad (according to Windows Device Manager, driver date 30-Nov-2009, driver version 7.202.1616.206) running Windows 10 and I can use the touchpad to scroll vertically and horizontally. As you certainly know, scrolling is achieved by moving the finger along the right or lower edge of the pad.

I did not install any driver to enable scrolling on the touchpad. I did a clean install of Windows 7 on the R500 and the Alps driver came with Windows 7 Update as "optional update". After updating to Windows 10, the Alps driver is still there.

That being said, the relevant "Settings" page on my R500 has as little settings as yours. However, I can configure the Ultranav touchpad using the old style "Contol Panel" (section "Mouse Properties" has the well known tab "UltraNav").

Hope that helps.

After using the ThinkPad Yoga 260 for about two weeks, both the trackpoint and touchpad are now unresponsive. I've tried updating the drivers, rolling back the drivers and uninstalling the drivers and installing the latest one. None of it works. I managed to get it working once with a BIOS update but as soon as I put it in sleep mode, both became unresponsive again. Under Mouse Porperties the TouchPad option is grayed out and the TrackPoint option is sometimes grayed out and sometimes not. Regardless, it is completely unresponsive when enabled and disabled.

I have a Thinkpad T440S and have a problem that many have reported. The trackpoint and touchpad initially work upon bootup but then stop working after a few minutes.I believe I've tried everything (uninstall/reinstall drivers, replace keyboard, replace hard drive and do a complete reinstall of all software, update everything, etc etc etc). Nothing works and the only reason I can still use my computer is that a wireless mouse will work. It's time to get a new computer. I've bought Thinkpads for more than a decade but I still see this problem being reported for the T470 so Lenovo can't or won't bother to fix this. Any suggestions for a different brand and model? I do like the trackpoint so does that mean Dell is my only alternative?

I have a Lenovo Thnkpad R500 with Windows 10 installed, but it seems there is no support the two finger scroll (Mac like gesture). Is there Touchpad driver for the R500 to support Windows 10 two finger scroll (Mac like gesture)? It looks to be a Synaptics UltraNav, I have tried installing the generic Synaptics Windows driver V 17.0.19 that claims to support Windows 8 but it fails to install on Windows 10. If I cannot get the two finger scroll to work on the Lenovo, I will stay with the Mac.

Answer:T60 trackpoint and touchpad work random!

Hello,

Just to confirm, this occurs under both Xubuntu and Windows 7?

If so, I would say carefully disconnect and reconnect the touchpad/keyboard assembly to verify it is not a connection problem, and if the problem still continues, to replace it with a new assembly.

Hi everyone, I got my T440s in Dec 2013.  The touchpad and trackpoint worked then, but after a couple months the touchpad would work for a few minutes and then just stop responding.  After a while longer the trackpoint completely stopped working as well.  Now neither of them have worked for months - I've been using an external mouse.   I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers but that didn't help.  When I open Device Manager and click "Show hidden devices", the ThinkPad UltraNav Pointing Device shows up with a yellow triangle "!" icon.  Does anybody know how to fix this? Thank you!

Answer:T440s Touchpad & Trackpoint don't work

Hi Snowmc,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with touchpad on ThinkPad T440s.

To proceed with troubleshooting steps please boot the system to safe mode and uninstall the UltrNav driver from control panel ? program & feature option and also from device manager.

Shutdown the system and remove the external mouse and then switch ON the system, after booting with normal mode it will install generic drivers. Please check if the generic driver is also giving the issue with touchpad.

If the issue still persists after performing above troubleshooting then please provide the MTM number of the system at the next reply.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Answer:Portege R500 - Touchpad doesn't work on Windows 7

Hi

Have you tested an external mouse on the notebook? Does it work?
Is the touchpad listed in device manager?

Normally you can enable or disable the touchpad using FN+F9. Did you check this?
Maybe you have to install the Value Added Package for this.

The problem happens with a Thinkpad R500 running 32-bit Windows 10. The R500 has a built-in card reader, however, that reader no longer works properly . Several times I've installed drivers for the card reader. Each time, the reader briefly works, then fails to operate the next time the R500 is used. Checking the knowledge base and Levovo online support turns up no cause, explanation, or solution. The card reader has been activated in the R500's BIOS. SFC/scannow shows no problems.

When TouchPad and Trackpoint are not working a USB-connected mouse will work normally 100% of the time. I will be indebted for suggestions about how to get rid of this problem.

At certain relatively slow speeds the scrolling jumps huge leaps regularly (probably after evey page or so). It's very bad with Chrome and Windows explorer, not so bad but noticeable in Thunderbird. I have set the scrolling to 1 line. My Synaptics drivers are the newest 10/04/2015. Also the treshold to start scrolling with middle button and trackpoint is very high - can't be that hard to make it smooth, so you could scroll very slowly? Please fix this soon... it's impossible to live with.

Shahal,

Maybe you can tell us a bit more ?   When you first start up, does the touchpad work?  How about the trackpoint?

Are the times when it does not respond seem totally random, or perhaps in association with certain programs, tasks, or length of time since start up?

At times where the touchpad doesn't respond, do it's click buttons still work?

Does changing the sensitivity settings make any difference?

Hey guys, today I've got my new Thinkpad Yoga and it's really nice but I don't know if it's the driver or the touchpad it self. I can't push the right mouse button. Whether I use the double tab nor the right corner (at the top or bottom), nothing happens. left click works fine, but only if I activate the on tab option. Already tried to uninstall the driver and reinstallt the new version from the website nothing changed. And sometimes the touchpad and the trackpoint don't work at all. I'm using Windows 8.1 x64. Thanks for your help! lg

Answer:thinkpad yoga touchpad right click does not work

I've recognized something. Sometimes when I use a "click" function of the touchpad a small touchpad icon appears on the notification area. But you can see it only a short time. I think it is definitely a driver issue. Am I the only one?

And I have to press a bunch of keys for it to continue. I think I might have fixed this issue by disableing secure boot and anti-theaft. It didn't always happen, but it happend every morning at work. I disabled these features now so I can't confirm or deny if that problem is competely ficked. I have of coruse updated the BIOS and all drivers. My second issue is that EVERY time, not only when I restart but also if I sign out of my account and back in again is that my TouchPad refuse to work if I don't click a key (any key) on the lenovo keyboard in addition to this left arrow key is in a loop. This is really annoying as I use this with a dock at my workplace. If I move the coursor to a textfield with my external mouse or the Trackpoint (that works fine regardless if I click on the keyboard or not) I will see the corusing being moved to the left contantly untill I click a key at the keyboard. What is going on? These issues seems really strange to me and not something you'd epxect.

I spilled a little bit of pepsi on my touchpad and now the right click button is kind of hard to press and doesnt make the appropriate noise because its softer although it still works. The left button is still perfect as it was before. How can I clean the right mouse button, is there some safe chemical I can put in there or do I have to open up the computer, which I don't really want to do becuase it might void the warranty. I only have the standard warranty that doesn't cover this. Thanks for your help.

Hi Community!

Today I bought my very first Thinkpad (Thinkpad Yoga). Unfortunately I do seem to be too think to use it properly...

I cannot figure out, how to enable the touchpad. I do not think it is broken or something, because the trackpoint and all buttons and also two finger swipe for scrolling work fine. I just cannot move the mouse cursor with the touchpad.

I the driver setting screen the touchpad and all its options are greyed out, too (see screenshot).

Does anyone have any idea, what I may be doing wrong?

Thanks a lot!

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 13 Touchpad is disabled - Scrolling & Gestures work

Has anyone ever made headway on this issue? I'm having the same problem. Scrolling and gestures are recognized, but moving the cursor and tap-to-click are nonfunctional. It's essentially stuck permanently in trackpoint-only mode, and the option to switch back has literally dissapeared. It started intermittently (would sometimes "fix itself" on restarting) but now the problem appears permanent and updating drivers does not solve the issue.

One of my kids spilled a drink on my ThinkPad Edge. Is there any way to check inside to see if it is still wet in there; I tried to dry it out myself. Or do I need to take it into a PC repair shop?

Answer:I spilled something on my ThinkPad Edge

The maintenance manual will help you open it up to look for liquids:

Hello. Last week a got a brand new ThinkPad E460 factory sealed for work. And it've had troubles with it out of the box, I have a ThinkPad T450s private and have never experienced anything like this on my private laptop. So of the bath to tends to freeze at Lenovo logo in BIOS boot screen.

Answer:ThinkPad E460 - TouchPad Will not work untill lenovo keyboard is pressed and arrow left is in a loop

I have not had the POST freeze problem, although I did have a bug with Yubikey, I had to push the Yubikey button twice to input the second part of my long VeraCrypt password, this was solved with a BIOS update.. Also my right speaker sounds broken on higher volumes, and OSD brightness bar is stuck on screen after waking up from S3 suspend, but goes away if I adjust the brightness with the keys on the keyboard. I do also have the TouchPad lockup problem! I have noticed the same, random lockups of the TouchPad. The TrackPoint works but the TouchPad locks up. It is restored by pushing a keyboard key or the TrackPoint mouse keys, or just leaving the TouchPad alone for a while (5-10 seconds). I got this machine with Windows 10 pre-installed but decided to go back to Windows 7 since Windows 10 has been nothing but a big PITA. I didn't notice this problem on Windows 10, but I have plenty of other Windows 10 specific problems. After installing all the latest drivers available for E460 (latest available from the site at the time, September 2016) this problem popped up. Current driver: 8.216.1616.135 I just checked System Update and noticed an update for the ALPS ThinkPad UltraNav Driver, so I'll update and check back (if I remember). New driver: 8.216.1616.151[Problem fixes]- Fixed an issue related to TouchPad Cursor no response in a short time after resume from S3 by lid close Maybe this have or will fix your TouchPad problem too.

OK, T60 Notebook and suddenly the TrackPoint and TouchPad stopped working.  I checked under the ThinkVantage tools and they are enabled.  I checked in the BIOS and the device(s) are enabled there as well.  I've had a TouchPad go bad before but the TrackPoint still worked.  Kinda strange both would go down at the same time.  So, in short: 1.  Has anyone out there experienced this and if so, how did you fix it?2.  Does anyone have the part number for a replacement TouchPad (I've searched the site and could find dang near everything else, but the TouchPad) TIA!

Answer:TouchPad and TrackPoint

They're integrated parts of the palm rest. A cable connects all integrated parts of the palm rest to the machine. So I guess the cable isn't plugged in firmly enough. Remove the palm rest according to the hardware manual and check. If the cable has no problem, contact Lenovo to ask for a replacement palm rest.

Hi all! The new s430 just arrived, containing some annoying problems :/ . One of them is the following: The Touchpad and the Trackpoint are not working at all. I can t de/activate them in the Win7-system-control. The drivers are up-to-date. Could it be a driver/software-problem? Greetings,Bvbnudel

Answer:No Touchpad and Trackpoint

Hi Bvbnudel, Touchpad and Trackpoint are indeed different components, there is a little chance that will fail altogether. I would suggest re-install UltraNav driver and check with antivirus programs. E420S, Cannot get either to work. Cannot enable trackpoint or touchpad in UltraNav.

Answer:Trackpoint and Touchpad

Hi, ezedoh

The first thing I would recommend is the removal of the UltraNav driver from the system. This is best accomplished by using an external mouse to navigate the system. To uninstall the UltraNav driver, open the Start menu and type Device Managerinto the Search box, and then press Enter. Once here, double click on Mouse and other pointing devices, and then right-click on the UltraNav device. Naviage to the Driver tab and select Uninstall... from the bottom of the window. Follow the prompts to uninstall and then restart when prompted by Windows. Windows should install a generic driver for controlling the mouse. This should reinstate the touchpad to working order. If not, then continue using an external mouse for now.

Once the UltraNav driver has been removed, I would recommend trying to use the standard Synaptics driver found here. Synaptics is the company that develops the UltraNav software, so there should be no loss of compatibility/features. I have witnessed several cases where this driver has helped others with mouse issues, so it may help yours as well.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Today I managed to tip over a cup of (lightly sugared) coffee on the table where my ThinkPad T420 was running.  Fortunately it was at sufficient distance that it didn't tip into the laptop, but the liquid spill went underneath. I quickly removed it from the spill, disconnected power and turned off, and attempted to clean up what I could.  Unfortunately in handling the laptop I didn't keep it upright the whole time, so there was some spread of liquid across the bottom of the machine, albeit not a large amount. So far as I can see, the major risks to the machine have been that: Liquid may have leaked into the fan vents on the bottom of the machine; There seems to have been some leakage into the cracks around the battery; although I removed the battery and cleaned up what I could, I imagine there may still be residue in various crevicesThere may have been some leakage into things on the side of the machine, such as the SD card readerHaving left it standing for some time (correct way up so liquid would not propagate further into the system), with the battery removed, I decided to risk turning it back on with battery only just to make a backup of files and type this message.  There's no obvious problem, but I'm going to turn the system back off again immediately after finishing typing. ;-) I'd appreciate advice on the general risk to the machine here and how I should proceed with getting it cleaned up beyond what I've already done.  I imagine... Answer:Coffee spilled underneath ThinkPad T420

I'd say it's probably okay.Positioning it normally was a good call, as was waiting for it to dry.Cleaning it up would probably entail a near total disassembly considering that any liquid that did make it in would be in the lower chassis.

I spilled coffee on my laptop keyboard a couple weeks ago and it won't turn on. I unplugged it, took out the battery and left it out to dry for a few days. I have tried only one time since to turn it on, with only the fingerprint scanner, power button, among a few other things lighting up, but no further response. I decided I was going to take it apart myself and clean it thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol, only the keyboard is stuck from the coffee and I'm not sure how else to take it apart. Any suggestions? Or is this a lost cause and I should give up before I begin?

Hello, Stupidly preoccupied with worry I knocked a cup of lukewarm black coffee over the upper left hand corner of my R60e's keyboard. After a few seconds the system went off, no lights anywhere. I disconnected AC and battery and shook what coffee was dripping out bottomm especially the side and rear fan vents, and shortly after I opened it up via instructions for changing keyboard and found everything inside still dry -- even underside of keyboard -- except a few coffee drops around fan area which I further napkin dabbed and dried and closed up. I waited fifteen minutes and attached battery and did power button and for a half second the green Battery indicator flashed then nothing more. I briefly did same with AC in and same effect. I Googled for remedies in case all isn't lost and did a popular one that entailed pressing the power button down ten times, once per second, then down for over thirty seconds and a short wait to supposedly reset system I guess, but no go. I'm putting the R60e aside in case there's someplace deep inside that did get wet didn't dry out to try this re-set squence again and now working on a backup R31 with Linux Maya. Thank God my R60e had a Copy.com account that constantly backs-up your files to resort to! Since the innards were remarkably dry, could it be coffee seeped deep some small area around the fans and shorted something that's still recoverable?  Can anyone make any recommendations I can try in the meanwhile? Hi jimwg,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

I am sorry to say, it?s too late to diagnose your system by us. I would request you to take the system to the nearest service centre for inspection, so once the inspection is done they may come up with the solution for it. Since it is a coffee spill which contains sugary substance and which is of sticky in nature and it is difficult to clean it and also it might have caused the short circuit also but never assume what had happened. However my concern is, please take the system to the nearest service centre for further assistance.

Hello all,I just got my Thinkpad T420 two weeks ago. Solid laptop overall, but recently I have some problems with my touchpad and trackpoint. There is a big movemental gap of the cursor when using trackpoint, and the touchpad is unusable. This happened once last week but then it disappeared after I disabled and then re-enabled trackpoint/touchpad, changing sensivity... Yesterday it happened again and this time it wont disappear after applying the same method. I tried updating the drivers, as well as reset BIOS (boot to BIOS -> F9 -> save) but none helped. I'm dualbooting windows 7 & arch linux, and the problem is present on both of the operating systems. This is really frustrating. Can someone please give me some suggestions what I could do to get rid of this annoying bug. Thanks very much.

I bought a new T61 Thinkpad recently. From the begining I have been having problems with the trackpoint and touchpad mouse. At a time only one works and it is mostly the touchpad. I checked the BIOS setting and it is at automatic for both touchpad and trackpoint. Sometimes even the touchpad does not work. I have to restart the laptop couple of times for something to work. I have tried disabling touchpad in BIOS and end up not having the trackpoint also not work.In the thinkvantage productivity center it says that ultranav is not installed and I downloaded the ultranav update from lenovo website and installed it. Still the trackpoint does not work.I love the trackpoint and I hope some one can help me figure out what is happening.thanks

Neither Touchpad/TrackPoint are working on my R60. I was using it fine about 2 hours ago. Then I drove home when it was in sleep mode, and since it hasn't worked. I have tried to install the latest drivers from System Update under the blue button and also from Lenovo and still didn't work. When I go to check and make sure they are enabled all I get is this:UltraNav has been disabled in BIOS.So when I go to BIOS, it says that it is automatic. There are only 2 options for them. Automatic and Disabled. So what the heck is going on here? Thanks,Mac

Welcome to the forum! Try reverting BIOS to default settings (F9 once you enter it and F10 to save and exit) to see whether that changes anything. Good luck and let us know.

Hello, I've bought new ThinkPad t540p recently. I've never used Trackpoint before and found it is very useful. But one thing breaks my happiness about Trackpoint. It's terrible clicking on touchpad. As I know it's common problem. But when I deleted Ultranav drivers and my Windows started using default drivers, I've realized that Trackpoint cursor pointing + Touchpad tap-to-click performance are best of breed. Unfortunately, I've lost scrolling and gestures. Is it possible to configure the same behaviour (Trackpoint cursor pointing + Touchpad tap-to-click) on Ultranav drivers or not? Thank you.

Heads up to potential buyers.  The X300 trackpoint and touchpad are not fully functional when used with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, MS Access, Remote Desktop, and other mainstream applications.  This is true for both XP and Windows OS.  The built-in pointing devices operate like a mouse without a wheel - you can point and click, but you cannot scroll.  This has been a known problem since June of 2008, and has been brought to the attention of this forum numerous times without resulting in any known action by Lenovo.WFaz

Answer:Touchpad/Trackpoint Warning

Lenovo released a newer version of the UltraNav driver that shows applicability to every Thinkpad except the one I own.  Has anyone tried the driver version 11.1.21.0 (released in August 08) on the X300?  The one installed on my X300 is version 7.0.1602.5 - this one is shown as being the latest UltraNav driver for the X300 in the Lenovo (lack of) Support website.

I suddenly find that both the trackpoint and touchpad are not functioning. they are set to Automatic in the BIOS but the UltraNav shows them grayed out.History:I had recently installed the system update "systemupdate314-2008-5-15.exe" when I had this problem (the key board also had stopped responding). The problem persisted but got rectified after a few restarts. But it now recurs again (though the keyboard is fine now). I also had recently removed the palmrest and tightened the touchpad connection when it had stopped working. It was fine till recently. Can you please suggest a remedy..

Hi there, I've been using a T400 for around a year now. Previously, I could move the trackpoint and the touchpad at the same time (left hand on the trackpoint and right hand on the touchpad). I reformated, installed the drivers for both, and now if I am using the trackpoint and try to move the touchpad at the same time, there is about a 2 second delay before I get any movement from the touchpad. Any ideas? It is a really big annoyance because even if I am using the track point and stop moving it, and then immediately try and move the touchpad there is still a second where no movement happens, and I have to lift my finger and put it back down on the touchpad before the cursor moves. Thanks,-Ben

Answer:Using Touchpad and Trackpoint simultaneously.

I use the trackpoint and usually have both pad and trackpoint turned on.  Normally, i would have my palm resting on the pad while using the trackpoint.  If the pad reacted to my touch while i'm using the trackpoint, it would be quite annoying because the mouse would move unintentionally.  having approx 1-2 sec delay fixes the problem of unintentional movement.   So I thought it was supposed to work that way...

I have a Lenovo T420s.  I bought it in May 2011 so it came with the Touchpad/Trackpoint driver version 15.2.14.0 (6hgx35ww.zip), which is the one also known for its massive memory leak. In any case, with that driver I am able to use the Trackpoint to navigate somewhere on the screen and immediately use the Touchpad if necessary. I do that a lot - I use the Trackpoint to quickly get somewhere on the screen, and then switch to the Touchpad for finer navigation (e.g. to look for something in Explorer, click on a link somewhere, etc). Every version since that verison has not worked the same.  I am now using 15.3.16.1 which doesn't have any memory leaks.  As soon as I touch the Trackpoint, the Touchpad becomes unresponsive to touch for about 1.5 seconds.  Try it.  Put your left pointer finger on the Trackpoint and move the mouse around.  Right as you lift your finger, use your right pointer finger on the Touchpad and see if it responds. It doesn't - you have to lift your finger and put it down again for it to register your touch.  Previously it would register your finger touch on the Touchpad right away. I'm almost tempted to switch back and deal with the memory leaks!  It makes such a difference with speed of navigation. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Recently I've been having an issue with both my trackpoint and touchpad. sometimes one works and other times the other works. from time to time they both work. it seems to switch when i pull up a new website or open a program. if one works before i open the program then the other will work after i open it. the buttons are the same way as well.. if one set works then the other doesn't but they don't correspond to which pointing device is working.. its kind of random.

I have just starting having the same problems as well.  It's driving me nuts.  I thought my laptop was crapping out.  Anyone have any ideas what's going on?  I also had the trackpoint touchpad go south on a HP N6400, though in all cases, the Synaptic driver thinks everything is hunkydorey.  I've updated drivers, tried everything.   Whole reason I have a Lenovo is for the trackpoint and if it's going to stop working, then will start looking at a new laptop.

Dear Lenovo, I bought a Lenovo W550s laptop last August, and last week I spilled water on the keyboard. Now, about 8 buttons on the keyboard (at least), don't work. I am curious, will the warranty help me in any way with any thing?  Also, I am looking for a replacement (internal) keyboard, and am having trouble finding one. I am pretty sure that the keyboard that shipped with my laptop last fall was not backlit, as the keyboard never lit up (unless I didn't know how to turn it on). Anyways, the Parts No.: 0C44952, ID No.: 57P1ZW, FRU No.:04Y2387, Model No. KM BL-105US.  When I looked up the part on Lenovo's website, it returned nothing: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/partslookup.  So, my questions for you are:1.) Does the Lenovo warranty help me cover my malfunctioning keyboard?2.) Is the keyboard that I have, Parts No. 0C44952, a backlit keyboard?  3.) Where can I get a compatible keyboard replacement for this laptop? 4.) Will this keyboard replacement work? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA3DY3CW6149&ignorebbr=1 Kind regards,Spencer

Hi

I have a Portege R500 which recently had an unfortunate meeting with the floor and needed a new hard drive among other things; it is therefore like new in the software aspect.

Since getting it back the touchpad does not scroll at all.
I have checked control panel, and it only gives me options for number of lines to go down per click of the scroll wheel, so it looks like it thinks its a normal mouse.

Also, there is no icon in the notification area on the taskbar showing when you touch the pad, which there used to be, and u could access lots of settings such as size of scroll area etc..
I have checked the driver and it is the same as the one offered in the downloads section so its not that, but i can find no sign of this other piece of software anywhere.

Does anyone know where i can download the icon and its accompanying settings or any other way of making it scroll?
Thanks

Answer:Portege R500 - some touchpad settings are not available

It looks like you have not installed some necessary touchpad driver.
Toshiba driver page provides an Alps Electric Touch Pad Driver for the Portege R500.
Install it!!!

Then you could check the settings in control panel -> mouse -> hardware -> touchpad properties

Hi and welcome to the forum m0g,

Check the internal cable and verify it's in place, if so, try reseating it, you can find keyboard and palmrest's removal instructions in the HMM or at lenovo's service video website.

Sometimes putting BIOS configuration to default values also helps.

So after reinstalling the driver, my T440s Trackpoint is working as advertised, but while it was acting all wonky...something happened. The driver malfunctioned in a good way so that I could tap the touchpad with my thumb to invoke a left-click while using the TrackPoint. Normall, the driver locks out the touchpad completely while the TrackPoint is in use, so that the touchpad only functions as buttons. But the vertical travel of the touchpad is deep and it takes extra effort to depress completely each time. What's worse, the touchpad remains locked out after I move the cursor with the TrackPoint and then stop to leave it over an icon, so that I actually have to move the cursor with the touchpad before it will accept a tap as a left- or right-click. Is there any way to force the driver to let me use taps instead of clicks to inoke left and right click while using the TrackPoint? Also, is there any way to defeat the touchpad lockout? In my opinion, the touchpad itself is excellent as far as Windows touchpads go. They've gotton double-tap for right-click perfectly, and two-finger scrolling is actually quite nice. But they've also overlooked an opportunity to make TrackPoint use even easier and more user-friendly than it was with physical buttons.

Hi, Finally I got my SL300 extremely fast and I'm very happy with it except for the Pointing devices. Both the Trackpoint and the touchpad are practically unusable because of their significant lag time. The Trackpoint reacts quickly but while moving it hops around jerking. It's like it will stick some times and then it hops and moves on. Otherwise the touchpad reacts much smoother but with a significant delay. If you move the finger left-right-left, I guess there's a delay of 500ms until the pointer arrives.I did notice this behaviour in Vista and XP (both original Recovery left-unchanged OS). I've noticed that this behaviour does not when you're in the Recovery menu while booting from the Recovery CD until the OS gets installed. Hope Lenovo/Alps will fix the drivers. Why didn't you choose the Synaptics pointing devices like in the SL400/SL500?

So, during the windows installer, no mouse. I couldn't see the pointer, neither the touchpad or trackpoint worked. I managed through using the keyboard, then once I got to the desktop I installed the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad" driver and rebooted. Still not working. I installed the thinkvantage system update, it detects no updates. I installed the service bridge. No updates. I then made a linux live USB that I use to install manjaro on all my laptops, yes everything worked out of the box on my previous x1 carbon. Touchpad doesn't work, xorg doesn't even recognize any touchpad present. Anyone else have this? Any solutions? This is actually my 2nd X1 carbon; the first works well but the mouse buttons are loose so Lenovo promised waived restocking and shipping with the purchase of a new order of equal or greater value; I ordered another one with plans to return the first one, because I really needed to keep it for work while I waited for the new one. The new one is actually flawless in terms of build, mouse buttons are solid, the CMOS battery is not loose and producing a rattling noise as it is in the first one, and the bottom cover doesn't have the clicking noise that so many are afflicted with. Really I'm willing to try anything to fix the touchpad.

Answer:New X1 Carbon, touchpad and trackpoint not working at all

Hi.

Just in case here it is a pointer to the Support site of the X1 Carbon.
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/x1-carbon-help

I guess you have the 5th Gen, can you validate that?

What about the driver listed on the support site of the 5th Gen ? It seems to have some Synaptics driver and even some firmware update for it. Have you tried installing those ?

If you don't have the 5th Gen please specify the model to find the correct support site.

Hi, I recently disassembled my Thinkpad W520 to clean out the fan and check a few things on the motherboard and when I put it back together both the trackpoint and touchpads have stopped working.  The trackpoint is attached to the motherboard at the same connector as the keyboard which works fine and I was very careful with static, dust, etc when I dissambled everything so I don't really see how anything could have gotten damaged.  First time I turned it back on the trackpoint worked fine but I had forgotten to plug the CMOS battery back in and when I went back and did that it stopped working.  Not sure about the touchpad, I dont use it much so didn't check it at first.  So far my attempts to uninstall/reinstall the drivers haven't helped.  The touchpad's no longer recognised in device manager but the mouse and keyboard are (and nothing's turned off in the BIOS either).  Is this just a sign of a bad motherboard or am I missing something easier to fix here?  Up until this point everything worked fine other than some USB issues which were do to a physical connetion problem.  It seems strange that the keyboard is ok but the mice dont work. Anyone have any  advice or suggestions?

Answer:trackpoint and touchpad problems - W520

Hello S_Zahara, Motherboards are the most sensitive and delicate part of the computer. It may be possible that when you removed the CMOS Battery, that may have changed some settings in the bios. Make sure the trackpad is enabled in your bios settings. Also, to make sure the CMOS battery is getting a full charge, leave your computer on for 24 hours. If the problem still persists, I would reseat the track pad to the motherboard. Hope that helps.

Sometimes, more often then helix is unplugged from power abapter, touhpad and trackpoint just stops warking at all. Keyboard working fine. Sometimes after about 30sseconds of tapping, mouse cursor moves a little, or touchpad "returns to live", but for about 3-5seconds, and then "dies" again. All drivers are updated from Lenovo site with their latest versions.OS doesnt matter, happends on windows 7 and windows 8 both.

Answer:Helix touchpad/trackpoint problems

Hi, mr_Jack

I would recommend uninstalling the current driver and see if it is the driver that is causing the issue. This can be accomplished by navigating to Control Panel ? Device Manager. While in Device Manager, open the tree labelled Mice and other pointing devices. Right-click on the device and select Properties. Next, navigate to the Driver tab and click on Uninstall... at the bottom. This will uninstall the driver, which will allow Windows to install a generic driver. If the generic driver functions without issue, then I would recommend either trying to reinstall the UltraNav driver or giving the Synaptics base driver installed, which can be found here.

Hope it helps,
Adam

since i've gotten my x201 i've been pretty happy with it. the only problem i've had with it is scrolling. on some applications such as itunes and AIM the program doesn't scroll. i've read a few entries saying that i have to modify the tp4table.dat file and it does work.my question is why is this necessary when other laptops don't need to do this. is this because synaptics drivers do not support scrolling in those applications yet? also how often does lenovo release new drivers to update support for more programs

Answer:scrolling problem with touchpad/trackpoint

Hello keviinf, modify the tp4table.dat file is the one way, updating the ultra nav drivers could help also. Please reboot your system after editing the tp4table.dat file.Otherwise it won´t work.I did some tweaks on my both systems too. Like enabling horizontal scrolling in Firefox.

Hi, I have a computer where the both the touchpad and trackpoint just stopped working. I can see it in the device manager, and it says it is working, but I get no response. If I look in the mouse options, I can see that the touchpad stands as activated, but at the same time it is grayed out. I can't deactivate it. The trackpoint is completely deactivated and grayed out. I have tried to remove the device and see is Windows reinstall it properly.I have downloaded and installed the latest driver fro both Lenovos supportsite and Synaptics. All so I tried to go into safemode. All the above with no success. I can plug in an USB mouse, and it will work fine. I need some help on what I can try, so I can get this to work.

Answer:Touchpad and trackpoint not working on an E530

Hi, Mhystique

There is a BIOS update that was released about two weeks ago that may be able to help the issue. This update can be found here. If that does not work, then the issue is likely hardware and the TouchPad will probably need to be replaced.

Best of luck. Let me know how it goes,Adam

Hi all, I purchased a T61 back in the early part of 2008, I suppose it's been 7-8 months.  Overall I've been very pleased with the unit, but I currently have a couple of quirks: Since the very beginning, upon startup my T61 will intermittantly not recognize the Trackpoint, touchpad, sometimes both, and very very occaisionally the keyboard.   For the most part it's fine, but when it acts up I have to reboot 1-3 times for everything to work.  My other problem is recent, within the last month.  Battery life has always been good until this point.  I was fiddling with the power management settings and came across the Battery Maintenance feature and performed a battery reset - ever since battery information claims my battery can store 11% of it's full charge capacity and it will last at most 15 minutes.  I don't mind having to replace a battery every so often, it's the nature of anything battery powered, but it seems from my perspective that the battery reset *caused* my battery life problem./ Any comments, constructive criticism, or encouraging words are appreciated.  Thanks, Joseph

Answer:T61, battery and Trackpoint/touchpad quirks.

Regarding touchpad and trackpoint try installing the lastest drivers from the site. regarding battery click on Fn+F3 and click on manage settings and select battery information and see the condition of battery if  it says good then try different options in Fn+F5 like enery-star or maximum battery life.if  it says its not ok contact the support and get it replaced if it is under warrenty.

Just received my T400s and I want to know how I can disable the TrackPoint and/or touchpad, since it comes in handy when typing. Thanks in advance!

Answer:Disable TrackPoint and touchpad on T400s

On my T500, I open the Control Panel, open Mouse, select UtraNav tab and I am presented with buttons to select / unselect the TouchPad and TrackPoint.  See if that or something like it works on your T400, too. Strange no one told you this earlier.

Hi there, I just changed my display-panel on the ThinkPad SL510 to a fullHD-Panel from the L520-Notebook.. It all worked perfectly and it's running brilliant. But after switching the panel my touchpad and trackpoint stopped working. The cables are all connected properly. Everything else is working, too. I've tried getting it to work on Windows and Linux. No chance on both. Linux at least recognizes the TrackPoint:# dmidecode[...]Handle 0x0021, DMI type 21, 7 bytesBuilt-in Pointing Device   Type: Track Point   Interface: PS/2   Buttons: 3[...] I've got the latest BIOS-Update on my SL510.  Hi to the forum.   I am a newly registered user of this forum but have been using Thinkpads for quite a while (T30, T43 and T61).   The T61  - 8891-CTO -  is rather old by now too and recently exhibited the 1 long and then short beeps and would not boot.   The GPU most likely overheated - a guess.    Following online hints I did manage to get the system back.   However, in the process something must have gone wrong and the Trackpoint/buttons and the Touchpad do not work anymore.  The BIOS does report them both as present and they are set to 'automatic'. Finding some mention of fuses on Thinkpad motherboards online I was wondering if there is a single fuse for both the Trackpoint/buttons and the Touchpad somewhere on the T61 motherboard and if so, could someone please point out where that fues is located? thanks, Anton

Hi all Can anyone help me diagnose a problem I'm having with a friends T410. The trackpoint and touchpad buttons have stopped working (both left and right click). I am forced to use the laptop with an external mouse. The trackpad and touchpoint themselves both work just can't click anything, I have tried uninstalling drivers and re-installing but that hasn't helped, have also run Hirens boot cd - Mini XP mode and the buttons don't work there either. Sounds like a hardware issue to me but would like a second opinion before I start pulling it apart! Many thanks Chris

Answer:Touchpad and Trackpoint buttons not working

Hi whitehouse87,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you again.

As I understand that you are facing issue with Touchpad & Trackpoint buttons are not working in T410.
You have tried almost everything & I don't think so its related to software or drivers. You can check without drivers once whether clicks are working or not. Else its a hardware issue for sure

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

I have a T60 8743, Windows 7 Ultimate. I replaced the touchpad and I am trying to use now both my trackpoint and touchpad, but the latest sofware dowloads and driver downloads from Lenovo are not talking to the hardware. Key points: 1. I see the trackpoint and touchpad enabled in the Bios Setup 2. When I download the ultranav driver, and utility software, no problems for 32bit Windows 7 For what ever reason, in device manager, the harware does not show up. I am looking for som help!

I am having problems with Trackpoint and the TouchPad.  I had to disable Trackpoint because it was constantly clicking and opening anything it was pointed at.  The TouchPad pointer will not click and open anything, though, oddly enough, it will work if the computer is placed in standby mode for a lengthy period of time. I have reinstalled the original OS and other software several times now, including reinstalling the latest ultra nav driver and have all the other latest updates (BIOS 1.45).   I find it unlikely that this is a Hardware problem, but I have not been able to fix it with the software reinstalls.   Could it be the SSD? Is anyone familiar with these type of anomalies?   Any ideas for a fix? W510 4318CTOQ820 @1.73Ghzwin7 64bitfactory installed128gb SSD12gb ram

Answer:Trackpoint and touchpad not working in Windows 10

Is it showing in device manager? If so is it showing that there is a problem? Is the ultranav software working? If not you could try re-installing the ultranav software or rolling back the drivers if everything shows that it is fine. Good luck.

Have T520, Windows 7 64bit.Latest versions of Ultranav drivers and utility. Both TrackPoint and TouchPad are enabled in BIOS, however, TrackPoint is always disabled, and it shows as such in the Ultranav utility. If I disable TouchPad in BIOS and only enable TrackPoint in BIOS, then TrackPoint works fine, and only that shows enabled. If I disable TrackPoint in BIOS and only enable TouchPad in BIOS, then TouchPad works fine, and only that shows enabled. If I enable both in BIOS, then only TouchPad works, and only that shows enabled in Ultranav utilities, with the checkmark to enable TrackPoint grayed out. Doing Fn+F8 shows all three combinations of options, however, selecting both TouchPad and TrackPoint here does not do anything, and option always remains with Enable TouchPad only.Is there a way to use both TrackPoint and TouchPad? Why is TrackPoint always disabled if both are enabled in the BIOS? Other Thinkpads I've used never had this issue... Thanks.

Hi, I've got this problem for a couple of days now, but I can't resolve it. I got this laptop since 2 weeks now, and everything worked fine, but all of the sudden I noticed my touchpad isn't working anymore. Already tried:Reinstalling the UltraNav driversPushing Fn+F8, as said in many cases, although this wasn't expected to work. I got aeroplane mode under Fn+F8.Opening the UltraNav settings, but I don't get the window as in this link. Instead I get this.Updating the BIOS.Check whether they might be disabled in the BIOS, but both the trackpoint and touchpad are enabled.Delete the device drivers and restart windows.Go to a previous recovery point on which it was known to work.Bring the windows back to factory settings, removing all files.So..But still: it doesn't work. Funny to see is that when I open the system tray icon setup, I can see the UltraNav tray icon and it says "TouchPad = Pointer, TrackPoint = Disabled". Could anybody help me with this?  Edit: while writing this message it mysteriously started working again after reinstalling Windows again and configuring the newest updates for Hotkey. Only now, this happened to me this afternoon as well, but it stopped working again after the external screen was detached and the usb of the wireless mouse was disconnected. Therefore I still post this message for it will probably happen again. Any help on how it could all have started? And more importantly: how it can be stopped?

Answer:W540: trackpoint and touchpad not working

Hello. I have brand new E431 with Windows 7 and I already encountered some trouble. Is there a way how to disable both touchpad and trackpoint? UltraNav driver does not allow to turn them off both and there is not any hotkey feature like Fn+F8 to control a touchpad on my notebook, or at least I did not find any yet.As you see, if aj disable touchpad, then I cannot manage trackpoint options and vice versa. However, disabled touchpad still reacts on press, so it can still cause errors when I type. Could you help me please? Or even better, is there a way to make a keyboard shortcut to such option?

Answer:E431 - How to disable both touchpad and trackpoint

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I doubt such a feature where you can disable both trackpoint and touchpad is not available. Try disabling touchpad in BIOS and see if it helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

i really want to quenstion myself why i chose thinkpad instead of an acer kind of notepad which is of just half price. my copy of x201i, has a very serious problem with the touchpad and trackpoint, but unfortunately on the irregular basis. intermittently, the touchpad can become very laggy, even when the computer is totally idle. the summary of the symptom is as follows: - touchpad is laggy, trackpoint is only a little bit less smooth compared to regular state (but still consider usable)- touchpad is deadly laggy, trackpoint becomes notably laggy too- after a while (on average less than 5 minutes), the problem automatically disappear- external mouse and keyboard function regularly all the time- cannot conclude in what situation the problem will occur and disappear, hence cannot replicate in a controlled way  and, i have tried the followings, none of it helps get rid of the problem - re-installed most of the drivers using System Update- uninstalled most of the drivers- reset the system back to factory state (win 7), without any additional software/driver/updates installed- re-setup the system using XP, the problem even occurred when i am still in the XP installation screen (the blue one).  i hesitate to go to the service centre because i know i am going to get nothing useful there, especially when i have difficulty in replicating the problem easily. so just try my luck here and hope someone can help me.
