Preferred Solution: R61: blank screen, 1 beep, 4 short beep the 2 more beep.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: R61: blank screen, 1 beep, 4 short beep the 2 more beep.

1-1-4-1 - Cache Error (level 2). You have a problem with the bios, which may require the replacement of the entire motherboard.

Answer:RE: Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi Ganny,
What are the exact # of beeps in a cycle?
Kindly review this chart and see page# 47 - it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on the exact # of beeps, that part would need to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series.
The laptop itself works perfectly fine, I am able to get into windows (which I installed myself, it originally came with Ubuntu).
Occasionally though, it will do a BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE (repeats).
This happens on boot and sometimes when I am using it. Sometimes it turns off suddenly when I am shifting the computer around. It's extremely loud.

What is causing this? The sound seems to be coming from around the area the Memory banks are under the laptop, but nothing seems to suggest that anything is wrong.
I took a suggestion and used FN+Power to do Hardware Diagnostics which said nothing is wrong.

What else can I try?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats and reply us with the beep count.

If you still receive 3 Beeps on the system then it indicates System board failure.. You will have to replace it on the laptop.
Please let me know the findings.

I understand that this means there is a system board error.  I have a very good reason to believe that the BIOS had an issue (when I checked it before this happened, it had 75 boot options listed and said the volitale memory was almost full). Question: can I somehow force the BIOS to reset itself?  Is there a pin short I can use for this? Of course I am 2 weeks out of warranty :/  I assume if I sent it in they would just charge for a boarsd swap... likely $500-$600 dollars. Thanks for any help!

Answer:X230 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep, no screen: can I reset the BIOS?

1-3-3-1 means no memory. If you have 2 DIMMs, try with just one, then just the other. When you try with just one DIMM, it needs to go into slot-0. When you have the machine sitting lid-down and the battery compartment away from you, slot-0 is the one on the right.

Answer:CPU fan is working for few seconds and stoped then a long beep and 2 short beep

Hello, Your reported T61 bios beep codes would indicate you have one of the following failures: System boardLCD assemblyDIMMThe DIMMS would be my first choice to test so, if you have more than one DIMM installed, try  try removing one of them and try to boot, if OK, you have removed the bad RAM; however, if the results are the same, remove the other DIMM and install the one you removed previously. If you can boot OK now, you have isolated the bad RAM. Now, if you can't boot with either stick, then, I guess the RAM is not the problem (unless you have two bad sticks and I doubt that). See the  Memory Removal and Installation Guide for more information. Good luck!

Answer:Compaq bios freeze short beep long beep

Is the beep pattern just one short one long? Check your manual for the POST beep codes to determine what it is telling you. All POST beep codes are different so there's no way to tell unless we know exact model of your PC. The manual usually has the beep code in it, though.

My X230 gets very little use since I bought it in 2012... sometimes no use at all for weeks at a time. Yet the system board failed, as did a replacement, and now the third board seems to have failed. On startup I get 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep and a blank screen. I tried the existing RAM stick in both slots: no startI bought and tried a NEW stick of RAM from Crucial in both slots: no startI tried both sticks in the slots at the same time: no start Other than another bad system board, what could it be? Where can I get a system board that might last? By the way, at the same time I bought the X230 I also bought a T530 that gets gallons of heavy use almost every day and never had a problem that I didn't cause myself.

Hi guys,

I have an Asus Z97A Motherboard/GTX 1080/24GB DDR3Gskill/ 500 GB SSD + 1to HDD and recently when i boot my PC i hear 1 long beep then quickly after 3 short beep.. I've searched in Asus website about the meaning of these beep and it's written that it's a Video card faulty..

But well just after these beep my pc is booting well ! and video card working well too, i've no problem playing games.

The strange thing also is that it's making these beep like 1 time every 2 or 3 days as i shut down my pc every night and when i'm going to work.

Do you have an idea of what i can do ??

EDIT : And by the way here's what i tried,

-Disable integrated graphic
-Clear CMOS
-Update Nvidia driver

I'm bad at computers, so I'm not sure where to put this.

My laptop fell out of my backpack just about a foot above a carpeted floor. I thought it might be OK, but when I turn it on, I hear one longer beep and then two shorter ones. The screen remains black and never displays anything.

"Behind" this black screen I can hear the computer seeming to boot as normal. I hear the chimes when the desktop should come up, and pressing my keyboard volume shortcuts I hear the volume beeps, so the computer itself seems to work, but the screen displays nothing.

I've googled and searched, and it seems like it might be a "video problem" or "video card problem" and I've also seen references to computer memory and motherboards. But honestly, I don't know much about computer maintenance and repair, so I'm lost.

Please help me!

It is a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ680 laptop. I don't know a lot about computers, but I'm good at fixing things and following instructions. I have a copy of the SZ680 repair manual, and would really like to avoid the cost of getting it repaired elsewhere if possible. If anyone knows what needs replacement, etc. that would be awesome.

I have an issue with startup, every now and again my startup initiates what sounds like 2 long beeps followed by 3 short ones - 'beep-beep' + 'beep+beep+beep' - but from what I've seen, throughout online discussion, it is only 1 long beep followed by 3 short ones. After this tune is played my screen remains blank, and on another attempt of start up the PC runs fine. Any ideas?

Answer:Lenovo H330 Beep Code: 1 long 3 short and blank screen

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
I haven't come across any documentation for your model that will explain that beep code.  A 3 beep code is related to memory.  Just to be safe you might want to try reseating the memory modules to insure they are making good contact. Just remove the memory module and then re-insert.  Page #36 of your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual will explain how to remove the memory modules for your reference.  The link below is for your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual. When working inside your system please follow all precautions and recommendations that are noted in the manual.
If the problem continues, I would suggest testing the memory with the free MemTest program I have linked below...

Hi, Today I replaced my old graphics card with a new GeForce 9500GT and also added a new Kingston 2GB Ram Card. I installed both of them then restarted the computer, since then it has only powered on and playing 1 short beep then 1 long beep. I've tryed everything I can think of ranging from taking out everything new and putting it back to before I added the new items to completely taking out all 3 RAM sticks and reseating them. I'm not sure how a brand new unopened 2GB ram stick that fit perfectly and a brand new right out of the box graphics card can cause a problem like this. I've been through the ins and outs of the internet trying to find a solution but nothing has worked. Hoping someone can think of a unique way to fix this or how it could have possibly happened in the first place. I dont buy anything used everything placed inside my computer was/is brand new when it was purchased. Any help/comments on solutions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

I was just using my PC yesterday, everything is normal, It was hot around 32 ?C I think. Around 3:00 P.M. my PC suffered 2 BSODS, I can't upload the .dmp files because I can't open it. I checked my RAM and tried to switch it to another bank but the beeping is still there. My video card temp was 50-52 ?C before the first BSOD happened. What can I do to fix this?

Answer:One short beep, one long beep

Is it possible you are hearing 1 long - one short?
That might indicate a BIOS CHECKSUM error, depending on the brand of BIOS.

You can try a ClearCMOS procedure (CLRTC is the same thing):
Note all your current BIOS settings
Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
Remove the 3v motherboard battery.
Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time.

Hi, I have been using the Y480 for almost 2 years. However, when I boot up this morning, it just beep beep beep continously. and the screen just have a cursor blinking. But after I reboot again and press F2 to enter bios, and then quit bios settings, the notebook can be boot up successfully. I have backup everything I need What should I do to fix the error? Is my harddisk gonna be failed? I have lost all the purchase receipts but I have registered 2 years ago. Thanks!Peter

Answer:Y480 continous beep beep beep during startup

Beeps are error messages from the Motherboard. Either the MOBO is failing or you have a problem with your RAM, I dont think it is related to your HDD, but you should create a backup. Also, if you don't have, please create recovery disks immediately. You may want to do more research depending on the BIOS manufacturer and the beep codes. You can google these terms and you should find information on the procedure to validate this. You can also try to re-seat the RAM, maybe it got a bit unsettled, if you moved the laptop. All in all, if you took the externded warranty and you are still under it, you may want to send the laptop to Lenovo for repairs.

250gb (5400rpm) hdd

i let my computer rest for a while and turned it back on. i currently get the toshiba startup, but around when it's suppose to load the os, it beeps continuously at the loudest volume with a contantly blinking underscore in white font on a black background.

i believe this may have happened once before, but i have no clue what i did to fix it.

Hi, While working on my laptop I got an error message regarding some memory and when I re-started the laptop there was a blank screen with one long and two short beeps. Going through various blogs/ forums and help sections on net and Lenovo website I got to know that this relates to Video board or motherboard error. I have opened my laptop and found NVIDIA graphics card mounted on motherboard which I am guessing must be causing the display error. I believe this is NVIDIA G72M-V (GO 7300) card which needs to be replaced. I have read about NVIDIA cards abnormal behavior on net in some Laptops. Is it possible that I can replace existing NVIDIA graphic card with some Intel graphic card compromising the graphic quality but at least I can do normal work. Regards Sachin

Hello all,  i own a thinkpad t60 with ATI radeon x1300 graphics card. I read through your complete "T61p exhibiting 1 long and 2 short beep and black screen" thread and I have the same beep problem with my t60. Let me briefly explain you how the beeps occur in my system: My t60 had this problem after I initally formatted my system and this 1 long and 2 short beeps used started occuring. But the strangest fact is that after those beeps and blank screen, the power light in the indicator light group is on along with battery and ac power lights. But then when I repeatedly switched on and off the system, the sequence of beeps dont occur all the time. Then I completely switched off the system and when I booted the next times I started pressing the ESC keys after pressing the on button. Most of the times ( 8 out of 10 times), the first 4 times it produced the same beep codes but after the 5th time, the system turns on.  All those 5 times, I kept on pressing the ESC key once I powered on the system. Also, every time I'd a chance I did run the pc doctor to find any pro blem with the board or video card, but every time it turned out to be fine. So now, every time I turn my system off or use a stanby/hibernate whichever turns the screeen off, on immediate reboot it comes out blank but with the power indicator light on. Here by I also list any changes that I'd made:1. I reformatted the system and only then this started to occur.2. after reformatting lsat time... Read more

Answer:T60 exhibiting 1 long and 2 short beep and black screen

I think your best way of diagnosing this is to remove the new ram and install only one chip, if the problem persists, try the other. If the problem persists, then I'd try booting from a Linux LiveCD (any will do but I'd recommend boot with the option to not change anything on your PC. If you get this same problem when booting linux, then you know it's a hardware problem, in which case I'd remove as much hardware as possible, drives, cards, etc... if it still persists, then you most likely have a bad system board. In this unfortunate event your best option would be a used one. A new one would cost more then the laptop is worth, but used T60 boards are pretty reasonable, I just found one for another member and could probably help you find one to if necessary, but lets hope it's just a ram chip. And by the way, your system is limited to 3GB, but in the chipset, and in your 32bit OS they came installed with. You can install 4GB, but it won't be able to use it all.

A few times now my E5440 will give a low beep... then a few seconds go by, and another beep.  It just happened a minute ago - only two beeps this time.  But I think it happened a few days ago and beeped several times with the same pause of a few/several seconds in between the beeps.  It's so quiet that before I've thought I was imagining it.  But this time I was sitting in front of it typing.
There are no pop-up notifications on the screen anything is wrong, such as the 'disconnection' sound when you remove a portable HDD, or your Wi-Fi disconnects.  Nothing to indicate what the beeps mean.  The laptop is working perfectly.  Battery is fully charged.  I can hear the fan turning and changing speed but it's 2:30am here with no outside noise and I can barely hear the fan.  (I assume it would be spinning up like crazy if something were overheating.)
I'm at a loss what it means.  Does anyone know?
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit if that matters.

I've got problematic Dell Inspiron 1564. Suspected bad video.
When turned on, screen is blank and beep codes are "long-short-short-pause-short-short".
I can't find info about this beep code. I've found that long-short-short is bad video but what about next two short beeps?
Hard drive activity looks normal after that and I guess system works fine except graphics.External video output doesn't work.

Hi,  I recently updated my BIOS to the latest version using the System Update tool from Lenovo. For a while everything seemed to be working alright, as the BIOS was dowloaded and the computer rebooted. After rebooting the first time i was presented with the BIOS utility, and noticed that the update was progressing.  After 20 or so seconds the computer rebooted again. This is where my problems began. The computer immediately started beeping this short-short-short-long melody from the speakers. I thought this was normal, so I left the computer on for quite a while.  However, the beeping never stopped. Now the beeping resumed the instant i plug the power back in. I have yet been able to actually getting any sort of information on-screen telling me what's wrong.  I've tried following the "Recovering from a POST/BIOS update failure" on page 267 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual, but no luck with that so far. No matter where I place the jumper, the beeping code is the same short-short-short-long melody (yeah, it sounds like a disney tune or something). Any bright ideas? The machine type is a M92p 2992-B3G I'd hate to have to send it in for repairs, and Lenovo's Norwegian support line doesn't open until Monday, and there seems to be no way to call their 800-number in the states from here  Oh, and would this be covered by my warranty if repairs / motherboard replacement is the only way out? UPDATE #1: I found... Answer:Fail to boot (short-short-short-long beep code) after M92p BIOS Update

I just had the same issue after a bios update on an M91p I unplugged the power and sata connections to the CD/HDD and powered up the PC. After receiving the No OS found screen, I powered off the PC, reconnected everything and it powered up just fine afterward. hope this helps!

My computer has been making this noise for quite some time now. but it would only happen once every few days so it didn't really concern me until now because its happening non stop. The noise is definitely coming from system sounds. I'm not sure if this is related but under device manager there is an unknown device which i cannot account for as i put the computer together and I'm staring in to the case rite now. there is also a yellow icon by teredo tunneling pseudo-interface (i have no idea what that is)lately my computer just seems to be working really hard when idling. the cpu is constantly spiking up to 100% usage and my hard drives seem to constantly be spinning. specscpu: intel core 2 duomobo: abit ab9ram: 1gb ddr2gfx: geforce 9800 gtx+hd: 2 seagate internal drives (1 with os) the other blank for storage. In my mind there are two possibilities. 1 i have some sort of virus. 2 some hardware is malfunctioning. either way i have no idea where to start and i was hoping someone could point me in the rite direction. Thank You!

I tried installing an MSI Radeon HD 6450 2GB Pci express x16 video card. Once hooked up, I boot up and computer beeps, from what I can tell 1 or 2 long beeps, 8 short beeps. I was running built in 128m video so I disabled that in the Bios, but that didn't do it.

I noticed the Video card manuf. recommends minimum 400W PS, my rig only has a 300W PS. Would that really affect my upgrade or am I barking up the wrong tree. I don't want to fork over for a new PS unless it' warented. Thanks a bunch.

Answer:2G Graphics card upgrade...Beep! beep!

It's possible you need a new PSU.

The TDP on that card is only 27 Watts and it doesn't require a hook up so I would think your current PSU could maybe support but I wouldn't risk it. There is also the possibility that the motherboard you have isn't providing enough power to the card.

You could try to re-seat the card or clean out the PCI express slot and see if that helps.

I am trying to help with a Dell Inspiron 5100.
The computer was running very slow and I've made a bit of progress resolving that. I think it needs some more RAM and I'm not sure if that could be at all related to the following.
The problem now is that after running for few hours, then shutting down, then trying to turn back on:
1. light comes on indicating computer is on
2. the computer makes 2 beeps
3. screen
4. screen
5. and so on

This does not happen everytime trying to start the computer so I'm really at a loss. I've read about overheating in this model which would seem to make sense but sometimes this will happen after the computer has been off for a day or so.

At a complete loss now.

Any assistance much appreciated!

Answer:beep doesnt turn on

I have this problem since the first day I use this laptop toshiba ,at 30%+ volume a dull beep (phone type) comes out of my speakers, not having the problem when I use a pair of headphones I think it's a problem of packing cases, any ideas?

Answer:Beep beep from Qosmio X770 speakers

To be honest I?ve never heard about such issue and really don't know why this happen but if this issue happens from the first day I think you should contact your local dealer or nearest Toshiba service provider directly and ask for help.

Generally speaking preinstalled recovery image and all installed drivers are tested so I cannot imagine it is some software related issue. Contact service and ask for help. Hey should check this and fix it. valid warranty will cover all costs.

I Need help! Blank screen and two short beeps

Motherboard:Asus P5N-E SLI
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo processor
Graphic Card: Geforce 5200 pxi graphic card
Case: Raidmax Smilodon
Ram: Kingston Valueram 512 mb 667 DD2

I recently brought the P5N-E SLI motherboard from newegg. I been having problem getting it to boot or show something on the screen. I'm using a geforce 5200 pci graphic, 500 walt raidmax psu and case, and Kingston valueram of 512 mb that runs at 667 mhz DDR2 ram. Everytime I press the power button the fans would start on the cpu and case. After a few second I would get one short beep. Two seconds later I would get another short beep.

When i switch on the pc, battery light turns on, hdd led light blinks and switch off. Screen remains off. Fan is running. Cd drive is working. I removed the battery and pressed the power button for long. Tried to boot by connecting to the main power. No result. When i remove ram, it started beeping. I removed hdd and tested in another pc. Hdd is working fine. Please help me to trouble shoot this issue.

Answer:Blank screen without beep

Unplug the system, remove or disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove and reinstall both memory modules and the hard drive.
Verify that the LED on the AC adapter is ON before you plug in the notebook end.  Try powering up on AC only.  If it will without the battery but not with it installed, the battery is bad -- replace it with a new one.
If it still won't power up, try one memory module at a time until you isolate the bad module (replace that) or bad socket (replace the mainboard in that case).
If you still get nothing, the mainboard is bad.
If  you require further inforomation, please supply the system model (i.e., Inspiron 5571, XPS L701x, etc.).

A friend of mine gave me a computer to try and fix and this one has me stumped. At first we were thinking his monitor was bad. Once I got the computer to my house and plugged my monitor into it, I realized its much more complicated. The computer turns on, green lights, fans running...but there is no picture on the monitor and the bios never beeps. I also figured this may have been a video card error but I put my card in and still, nothing. Any suggestions would be extremely appreciated. Oh, I dont know if this matters but this is a DFI Lanparty motherboard...not sure about the rest of the specs.

Answer:blank screen on boot and no bios beep

It's either bad RAM, a faulty motherboard, bad PSU, or a dead CPU.

After I had come back, the PC won't kick out of it. Well the CPU did, but the screen wouldn't It was still on Standby mode. After trying for 5 minutes I decided to reboot the PC. But this time round, upon switching it on, there was a lengthy beep (5-10 seconds long.) That beep would occur every 10 seconds but the screen won't come on still. After trying a couple of times I decided to try it on a different monitor using different wiring... same problem again. I tried switching it on without it being connected to a monitor and I could still hear the beep of death. I tried to use a different power cable for the CPU and no luck. After having done some research, I realised it could be either my RAM or graphics card. So can anyone hear me advise me well? Check the RAM with this memory tester:

Click "Downloads" then click the first link in the list: ISO image for creating bootable CD (Windows - zip)

Unzip it and you will see an ISO file which is a CD-image file. Use IMGBURN to create a CD from the ISO file.
IMGBURN is here:

Boot your PC from the CD and run the test for at least five passes.

Good afternoon,I'm having trouble with my windows vista computer.  When I start it up, nothing appears and there is a beep noise.  It goes beep beep then there is a 3 second pause then another beep beep.  I don't know how to fix this and any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer:Windows Vista Beep Beep

These "Beep codes", as they're called, are to notify you that the Power On Self Test, or POST, has failed. The number and sequence of beeps is generally to identify which component failed, but without knowing the manufacturer, specifically the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System), it would be difficult to determine what the beep code is identifying as the problem component. For a successful Power On Self Test to take place, the following components must be working:BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) CPU (Central processing Unit) or processorPSU (Power Supply Unit) Video Output device (Graphics card)RAM (Random Access Memory)If any of these fail, your computer will not power on properly, and may exhibit symptoms like what you are describing. Generally, the first step in fixing a computer that refuses to start up is to isolate components that may be causing the problem. One thing to try would be to clean the internals of your computer (Warning: be sure power is turned off to your computer before working on internals!) and to reseat components like RAM, peripheral cards (such as your graphics card), etc.. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, you may think of taking the computer in to a reputable shop- most places that are reputable would not charge or would charge very little to clean and reseat a couple components. Chances are that the problem component is either RAM or Graphics card, these components tend to fail or require service faster than others, and may als... Read more

It could be that your Pc is overheating. If it has been with you for a while then dust gets stuck in the heat sink of the procesor and on its fan this makes the fan go slow and that causes the overheating.Ifyou know a little about Pc then switch off the PC at the mains take off the side pannel of the tower and look on the mother board for a small fan, you could put a vacuumm close to the fan and this may take out the dust, if not you will need to take off the fan to clean the heat sink

Windows XP, Service Pac 3

I just had a "search engine redirect issue" fixed by "Gringo." One thing that is different now is at windows start-up, this laptop makes a BEEP TIC (Higher in frequency than the BEEP) vs the BEEP BEEP sounds I've had for ever. The computer start-up sequence is very slow as it takes minutes before the computer is ready to be used.

During the virus removal, a few times the reboot start-up sounds were BEEP - TIC - BEEP (again the TIC was higher a higher tone and faster than the BEEPs). What do the different sounds mean?

I'll start another thread requesting help to fix my computer problems.

I was not sure where to post this because I'm not sure if it is a hardware or software issue. When my computer is turned off and I turn it back on, the first couple screens flash by (looks pretty normal), then the windows XP splash screen (I think thats what it's called), the one with the big 'Windows XP' and the bar with the sliding blue bars in it, that screen appears, then the screen flashes to black, then the splash screen appears again, then the screen goes black, but you can tell it's still illuminated, then it goes off, then back on to black, then off, and the green LED on the monitor starts flashing like the computer is off. I have to hold the power button until it shuts off, and repeat this process at least 3-4 times before the login screen appears and I can start windows.
I have tried changing my video drivers and reinstalling windows and chkdsk, and it does stat in safe mode (as far as I can remember), and the reason I suspect a hardware problem is that the mobo does not beep upon startup...ANy thoughts? I don't recall if the mobo ever did beep, and I don't know if every single mobo beeps. If somebody could offer some tips or a solution I'd be very appreciative! This is annoying the crap out of me, and I know it can't be good for the computer to keep starting up/shutting down manually so often.

Hi there,

I have a toshiba tecra s1 and it's not working anymore, and I don't know why.

When I want to start the notebook there's nothing wrong, but after 3 minutes or so the screen isn't responding anymore. Then I tried to restart, it gives a black screen and several beeps. The beeps are:
short, short, long, pause, short, short, shorter.

And this it repeates itself. When I wait for several days it will start again and then after 3 minutes it will "crash" again.

What is the matter with my laptop? Why does it work, and after 3 minutes doesn't work anymore?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards!

Answer:Tecra S1: Blank screen and beep error code appears

Does the notebook boot correctly into the Windows OS???

Usually the strange beep error code appears because there is a hardware problem on the S1 and the POST (power on self test) cannot be passed correctly.
If the computer fails the POST, the computer then returns a beep code indicating what is causing the computer not to pass the POST.

The problem is that all different BIOS systems support different code meanings.
As far as I know Toshiba Tecra S1 uses Toshiba BIOS and only the ASP can read this code and know what it means. I would recommend contacting the ASP in your country for a help!

PS: Check this interesting page about additional information on computer POST / Beep codes

Hello guys,
I've done a extensive search on the internet and couldn't find any answer to my problem. I have a Dell XPS15z for quite a while. Last year my battery stoped working, and since I already had a new PC, I left it alone.
Well, I've decided to give the old friend a new shot at, so I bought a new battery, installed it and did the first 8h charge that the manual indicated. However when I first got to use it, after I pressed the power button the laptop would show signs of activity (power button led on, HD spinning, fans working), but the screen stays blank and no matter wich key I press the laptop emits a beep. If I leave it like that, after a while there are no changes at all.
So, can anyone please help me with this predicament?
Thanks in advance.

I get a single short but decently loud beep about once a day from my x120e laptop.  Sometimes I think maybe it's in response to me laying my hands too heavily on the laptop, but that seems unlikely.  I couldn't find my beep on the beep symptoms guide I found on Lenovo.   Why it do this?

Answer:One short beep x120e

Perhaps it beeps when it reaches a preset low-battery level? When it beeps, does the battery indicator light turn from green to orange? If so, all you need to do is plug it into an AC outlet. If not, then i don't know what it might be.

I keep getting a short beep. I found this on the net but I'm not a tech and don't know how to do this stuff.

Very short beep
This problem is linked to your motherboard. It can also mean that you are facing a problem with your system memory (BIOS AWARD)
I would appreciate any help you can provide.

i have a 2.8 p4, 2x 512mb ddr 400 ram, GT6600. my motherboard is an abit 1s7

any ideas whats up?? i have a very big deadline coming up :-(

Answer:long beep, short deadline :-(

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Can you describe the 1 long beep a little more?

Does it do this then nothing?

Does it do this then repeat?

If it gives one long beep and then nothing, then it probably means you have a faulty cpu.

See Below.

Basic Beep Codes for ABIT AWARD BIOS Motherboards

No beep at all - this means your motherboard is dead, either due to a defective or underpowered power supply, poorly seated CPU or RAM, or a dead-on-arrival board

One beep - board is working fine

One long beep then machine shuts down - faulty, improperly installed or missing CPU

1 short(Beep) System booting is normally

2 short(Beep) CMOS setting error

1 long - 1 short(Beep) DRAM ERROR

1 long - 2 short(Beep) Display card or monitor connected error

1 long - 3 short(Beep) Keyboard Error

1 long - 9 short(Beep) ROM Error

Long(Beep) continuous DRAM isn't inserted correctly

Short(Beep) continuous POWER supply has a problem

A two-tone siren, generally caused by overheating or out of specification voltages

Four beeps then machine shuts down. This is because this version of the BIOS will shut down your machine if no fan tachometer signal is detected on the fan header. Make sure you attach a fan to the FAN1 or FAN4 header or clear CMOS to reset to default (no checking).

Thanks to Paul Howland & Overclockers for providing the information.

I have an IBM Thinkcentre M50 with a P4 CPU and a AGP card Geforce FX5500 and it works just fine. I would like to upgrade the video to a Geforce 6600gt which I have. However, when it is installed, I get the beeps and no video. Is the Motherboard incompatible, is the power supply not good enough. It's only 230w. Lenovo says the card should work, but I'm thinking, what do they know.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I just removed the card and placed it in another older PC and it worked. I then put the card back into the IBM with the power supply from the old PC and nothing except the beeps.

been having this problem for a few months I had thought it was from a zlob trojan but not to sure now -jeeze I just am not really sure . But I have gotten pop ups telling me my virtual moneroy was to low .Sometimes I will try to login to email but nothing will type in login box .If I wait long enough I will hear a short beep then everything works fine . I had thought it was from having low memory but I added a new 512 to the 512 I have installed already.I also installed a new 320HD , I did not use a fresh copy of xp for the new hd I used my recovery disk to reload xp . I wonder if my problem is with the recovery disk :cry. I had the same problem before the new hardware was installed I thought for sure the new hardware would correct the problem . I was wrong . Sometimes when this freeze up starts I have to unplug the cpu wait like 5 minuites then all is fine . Should I wipe my HD and install a new verzion of xp ? I hope someone can help me please . :cry

I have a HP a6130n (purchased in July 2007) and it has been giving me the "blue screen" and shutting down. Then all I get is one short and one long beep. It will start up again and work for a while but then will do the same thing again. I have NOT installed anything new. No new hardware or no new software in the last several months.
Any HELP?!

Answer:HP a6130n one short one long beep

Hi there

According to HP's support website, one short and one long beeps signify that your computer is having problems with the installed memory modules. Your symptoms are also common of the same.

Your computer supports four, 1GB DDR2-667 (PC2-5300) RAM sticks. I suggest you replace the ones in your computer. You might only have one or two.

Replacing them is easy and can be done at home.

Here is a cheap pair (two 1gb modules):
If you have more than one RAM stick it is possible that only one of them is faulty while the other is fine. To test your RAM modules you will need to run a memory test such as memtest86+

To figure out which one it is, you can also take one out and turn your computer on with just one or the other. If you figure out which one is faulty you can leave that one out and run the computer on just the healthy one.

Hey guys, this is what has basically happened:

Last night, I was on my PC when a powercut happened. All power gone for about 1/2 hour, no big deal...I thought. When the power came back, I was able to log onto my PC however there was no internet, and this was apparant on all other computers in my house and the router also indicated this.

I then logged on this morning, with no internet still however there was internet in the rest of the house. I thought to restart the router and also my PC, however, when I tried to turn my PC back on, all i got was 1 long beep then 2 short beeps. I did some research and found out that this was a visual problem..something to do with my video card.

Is there anything immediate I can do right now to verify this, or do something..whatever..

Thanks for your time, any help is appreciated.

About 2 days ago, I noticed that the pc speaker is giving me a signle beep at logon. I click my name on the welcome screen, type my pasword, my wallpaper loads, then I hear a single beep. Everythomg else works normally. This pc has 5 users, only i et the beep.

Shortly before this started, i had been fooling around with a program called rainlendar. (i can't post he link, it is the top google result of "rainlendar")

it had been giving me anerror message at logon, and so I uninstalled it. I thought perhaps this beep was because of it (when it was installed, it was set to run automatically at logon). I had a peek at my hkeylocalmachine and hkeycurrentuser registries, and the startup program list in msconfig, but I don't see any remnants of it.

I can't think of anything else that could be causing this problem, Although it may be related to another mysterious problem I have where the computer randomly displays a BSOD.

Thanks for any help!
(I could always just make myself a new user acount, but it would take a while to restore all my settings and stuff)

This post is going to involve 2 PCs, which I will refer to as PC 1 and PC 2. They are identical except for their graphics card and power supply. They both have ASUS P5E Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8400 3.00GHz, 3.25 RAM, running windows XP.

PC 1 ( gforce 8800gt card and a 500 watt power supply )

The LG monitor went off and never came back on. My sister had an old vga Mitsubishi diamond plus 91. I didn't have the funds yet to buy a new one so I hooked that up and everything was fine for about a week or two. Then the monitor shuts off and goes into power saving mode. I assume power supply and it sits waiting for a new one.

PC 2 ( gforce 9800gtx card and a 700 watt power supply )

The LG monitor went off and never came back on. I take the Mitsubishi from PC 1 and a week later, the monitor shuts off and goes into power saving mode. I assumed the monitor finally died and went out and bought a new acer flat screen. I hooked it up and when I booted up I heard 1 long beep and 3 short beeps. The monitor went into power saving mode. I then researched and found that beeping code to be an Award Bios error saying the graphic card was bad. I pulled the card from PC 1 and upon boot up I heard 1 long beep and 3 short beeps.

As I read this back to myself, I am seeing and feeling sick at the thought of....did I fry 2 graphic cards by using that old vga? They are both lifetime warrantied but it means both PCs down for as long as it takes to RMA them. I am currently on my laptop, but my worl... Read more

Hey well I am building a computer and when I boot up I get one long beep then two short beeps

Motherboard is A8N-SLI Premium 939
Video card is x300 ATI

I have no idea what is causing this to do this

Answer:Long beep two short beeps

Looking up some info on the motherboard:

1 long, 2 short - Indicates a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information.

In layman's terms. There is something wrong with the video card.

Answer:samsung NP-r70 one long beep 2 short ones
I checked the samsung site and this is the page to download your manual. I am looking at it now and trying to find out which bios you have so I could check the beep code for your bios but I don't have much time this morning. Perhaps you could look through it and see.

I am having problems with my computer not turning on, one long beep then two short beeps, then a black screen. Just happened last night, the machine went into sleep mode, wouldn't come out, I rebooted and that is the error beeps I received. It has been a great little machine till now. I am in contact with customer support/service in Taiwan, where I bought the machine, but I am wondering if anyone else had problems with this on their R61?  I know the T61 had a lot of problems, and I'm wodnering if it's related? Also, I cannot find my original receipt (company paid for the machine, I'm trying to get them to track back through their accounting receipts...)  but I know I paid for 3 years (2 additonal years warranty) but I have only one year listed online. Worst case scenario, if if thea ccounting team cannot locate the receipt, is it possible to pay for additional warranty, and then have the computer fixed. I do not work at the company any longer, though I still have my machine (nice of them) and I think it will be very expensive to fix if it is a mother board problem.

Answer:R61 One long beep, two short beeps then nothing

what is the GPU used on your machine?
Yes you can purchase post warranty warranty on the machine.

Computer has been working fine, all of a sudden a game im playing locks up, so i reboot the computer. I then start the game again and a few minutes later it unexpectedly quits and i cannot do anything but move the mouse.

I reboot the computer again and this time the monitor does not display anything and i get one long beep and two short beeps. I looked up the codes and saw it had to do with the video card. I take the video card out and disconnect it and i get the same beep (dont know if its because the card is absent). Any other ideas?

When I start the computer.. 1 short beep 2 long beeps, then, continues to run... LED lights are on, fans working, hard drive working, however nothing displays on monitor. I am assuming Phoenix BIOS, however I am not able to find beep codes with this sequence for any BIOS. Everything is connected correctly. I cannot get the computer to boot up and display on monitor.
