Preferred Solution: how do I manually create a rescue and recovery backup?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Today I was investigating something in ThinkVantage Rescue & Recovery since one of my attempts to create a set of recovery discs had gone wrong - I created a Rescue Disc (boot disk) instead of a set of Recovery Disks. Basically, what I discovered is that according to this IBM page http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-68317.html I am supposed to see two options when clicking "Create Recovery Media" in the ThinkVantage start menu group: (1) Rescue Media and (2) Recovery Discs. In the event that a set of Recovery Discs (option 2) has already been created, this option will become gray and can't be selected, however it will still be visible, displaying the text that you've already created a set of Recovery Discs and that your license doesn't allow you to make any more. The strange thing here is that I don't at all have option 2: Recovery Discs, whether active or inactive (gray)! Please find attached the three relevant screenshots: the last one is of my computer (and is in Dutch but shows you that I have only option 1 to select), the bottom two are from the link I provided above and show the distinction between having option 2 active or inactive (gray text). Does anyone know what is going on here? And will this entitle me to a complimentary (in effect, free) set of Resovery Disks from IBM Support (taking into account my warranty has expired)?  I've got an R50p running Windows XP Pro (1832-W1D). [IMG]http://i38.tinypic.com/2r3w1ts.jpg[/IM... Hello, I never created recovery disks when I purchased my T60 over three years ago.  I regret that. Now I am wondering if it is possible to do so.  When I launch Create Recover Media (rrmedia.exe), it crashes immediately:AppName: rrmedia.exeAppVer: 1.0.0.1ModName: unknownModVer: 0.0.0.0Offset: 0018089aEventID: 1000 I cannot request recovery disks from Lenovo, because my system is out of warranty now. So I think it is either it is impossible to use rrmedia.exe at this point (since in the meantime, I've upgraded to XP SP3, etc) or I need to upgrade or reinstall Rescue and Recovery.  However, trying the latter opens up a can of worms: 1) Rescue and Recovery shows version 3.01.0037.  Running system update to patch to 3.01.0042 fails: "A later version of 'Rescue and Recovery - Client Security Solution' is already installed on this machine.  The setup cannot continue." 2) When I try to uninstall RR from Add/Remove programs, it fails: "Another version of this product is already installed.  Installation of this version cannot continue.  To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel" 3) When I try to upgrade to the latest 4.xx, it says I must first uninstall the current version, which from the above, I cannot do. So the machine is confused as to which version it has, and it won't let me upgrade, uninstall, or reinstall. In summary:&... I am planning on installing Paragon - Drive Backup Professional on my T61 PC (Win XP) which currently has Rescue and Recovery 4.0 on it. .... Now, If during the Paragon install I choose to have Paragon install its "Backup Capsule" which it installs as a hidden partition and allows access to it via pressing the F11 Key: 1.   Will i have any issues if I leave Rescue and Recovery on my PC which also makes use of a hidden partition which is accessable by pressing the Blue Thinkvantage Key ? ....So, Will there by any issues ?  P.S.  I think that when Paragon installs the "Backup Capsule" that it modifies the MBR on the hard drive.  2.   How have others installed the Paragon Drive Backup Professional program on their Thinkpads which also have Rescue and Recovery on them ??? ...  If yes, did you  install Paragon with or without the "Backup Capsule" and left RnR on the Thinkpad PC  ?  3.   Or, have you Un-Installed rescue and recovery first and then installed  "Paragon Drive Backup Professional" ?...  If yes, did you  install Paragon with or without the "Backup Capsule" ?

Is it possible to copy the factory backup partition from my X301 (Vista) onto a USB?  It seems to only want a CDROM.  It also suggests trying the Create Recovery Media Utility, which I have tried but the pulldown menu to choose a target drive is empty, despite the USB stick being in (in fact, no drive comes up, internal or otherwise). My goal is simply to back up this partition so I can get back those 10 Gb of space. Thanks,

Hello to everyone!!

My cousin interrupted the first boot of Vista, resulting in an constant error while powering up the laptop (saying something about disconnecting a camera or a media player). I decided to perform a clean install of Vista Home Pre and everything rolled ok.

I have a back up of the HDD Recovery Folder and tried to burn a DVD using as prototype my recovery dvd (A200-1J0) which prooved non-bootable.
So, I would like to know whether it is possible to make a recovery dvd manually (meaning without the wizard mentioned in the user manuals) for the Toshiba A300-17N laptop.

Answer:How manually create Recovery DVD of Satellite A300

Something like this is not possible. If the HDDRecovery folder still exists on second partition please start your notebook and press F8 for advanced boot option. Use first option on the top for computer repair. Follow the menu und choose option for Toshiba HDD recovery.

Install OS again and create recovery DVD using preinstalled Toshiba tool.

Hi,

I have a friends laptop (a Satellite Pro) which fails to boot into Vista (even in safe mode) with a blue screen. I have tried booting off my own Vista CD to attempt a windows repair, but even that results in the same blue screen. To cut a long story short, I want to resort back to factory default, but the recovery CDs were never created.

I can access the drive contents (both the C drive and the data partition) by booting off a linux live CD. Is there any way I can copy the files oft the data partition, and create a recovery CD/DVD using these file?

Many thanks

Answer:Can I create recovery CD from data partition manually?

> Is there any way I can copy the files oft the data partition, and create a recovery CD/DVD using these file?
No. You cannot do this. What you can do now is to order original recovery disc from Toshiba.
Sorry but there is nothing you can do about it.

I need to create a set of recovery/rescue disks for my laptop. Its a Windows 8 T530 laptop. I can't find any software provided by Lenovo for doing this. What do I do? Thanks.

Answer:how do I create a recovery/rescue disks?

Not sure about Windows 8... but in 7 if you type in 'recovery disk' you should get some options provided by the OS. Also in 7... if you open the Lenovo ThinkVantage Tool, it should have an option for making recovery disks.  I would presume that would remain largely the same under 8. HTH, Monte

Ok, so I am now officially confused.I go to Programs->ThinkVantage->Create Rescue and Recover Media. There are two sections, one says Rescue Media, the other RecoveryDiscs.#1 The first time I selected Rescue Media and clicked on CDs/DVDs -- this resulted on only one CD being created.#2 I went back and this time under Recovery Disk clicked on "Create a set of Product Recovery Disks now" .. that too resulted in only one CD.#3 So, I tried the first one again, same result. Each single CD that was produced by these 3 different attemps was to be labelled Rescue and Recovery startup disc. From what I have read I should be getting one CD and one (or more?) DVDs. This is clearly not happening. What am I doing wrong? This can't be that tricky ....Thanks!Esmail

Hi...I am a 'newby' to this system..I accidentally took away my 1st Backup on Rescue&Recovery.  When I go to start another backup, it starts but then stops saying there is not enough free space for it to work.  The Lenovo Recovery Disk shows 9.76 GB total with 3.25 free.  On one screen during my attempts to backup it said I might need as much as 55GB for the backup....Can you please tell me how to correctly do this backup(provide enough disk space, etc), since there is none present on this new computer(13") and no internal disk drive to use....feels very VULNERABLE !! I greatly appreciate your help,Rob

After reformatting my pc and setting it up I backed up my hard drive to DVD-RWs. This took an awfully long time. After all the disks had been written to and nothing had happened for a while I closed down R&R. To my dismay a window popped up telling me that the backup had been cancelled. I now have a set of backup disks but I don't know whether, in view of the "backup cancelled" message, I could use them to restore my hard drive. Should I start from scratch with new disks?

Hi All, I just bought a new Ideacenter All-In-One B310 shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium, but my excitement is fast dying out. I am trying to create Recovery Disc using the "Lenovo Rescue System 3.0" however, it keeps failing when the recovery procedure reaches 43% with the following Notice - "An internal program error has occurred. Failed: error code 0xEB1B068A" A quick google check and review of this forum gave me some instances where people repartitioned their volumes to face similar error and restoring it back to their original volume sizes has resolved the issue. However, I haven't repartitioned anything out here and am just trying to create the rescue disk as the first step of the shipped product to me. I have tried it creating 4 times and have literally wasted 4 of my DVDs that get ejected at this very point. Please suggest what is the way out here. Best Regards,AbhiShiku

Well, some days ago I've tried to install a Lenovo update for my Rescue and Recovery software - to version 4.2.After uninstallation of the previous version I got no success installing the newer one - it always gave me a"not enough disk space" error. So after several tries I returned back to 4.0 version which installed OK. BUT when I tried to create Rescue Media (for the first time in my life) - I didn't have an option to "Create a set of ProductRecovery discs now" which, as I understand includes a copy of Vista in the installation, so in the caseof Vista corruption I can re-install it again from DVDs (am I right?). What's wrong? How can I make this optionavailable in R&R 4.0? Reading forums I found out that this option is disabled when you alreay created a set of rescue DVDs - but it'snot my case, I'm doing it for the first time (I don't even have this option disabled, it's not displayed at all). Thank you.

On previous ThinkPads backups were done in an hour or so and i like to use R&R for it's simplicity and reliability. But if i don't find a solution soon, i will uninstall it and use Vista integrated backup solution. Thanks for your help...

Answer:Rescue and Recovery takes 10h for a backup!

sounds like a corrupt rescue and recovery system, you may need to use the recovery media that you have burnt in the Vista's thinkvantage system and reformat the whole harddrive. I had the same problem with mine R61i before, the rescue and recovery partition wasn't installed properly.

Can anyone help with this, please? During backups, R&R advises that it can't back up 2 files because they're in use or corrupted. They are security.config.cch.<random digits> and enterprisesec.config.cch.<random digits>. (This has only just started to happen - I think since I installed the latest R&R update.) A quick Web search shows that these files are part of the .NET framework and, since they're dynamically generated, they might well be in use at the time. Also, they get automatically recreated, so skipping them from the backup does no harm. That's fine, except that I can't find a way of forcing a skip so I'm having to check backups while they're being generated and clicking the 'skip file' option each time it appears, which is a pain. Anyone any thoughts? Thanks in anticipation. RegardsRobin

Hello, I have a T60 with a 60GB hard drive.  I have about 11GB of free space.  I chose to delete a few of my backup files and would like to delete more, but I have a couple of them that produce an error message stating that there is not enough drive space for the chosen operation.  It seems kind of odd since I just deleted a 4GB backup file and the file that produces the error is only 2GB in size.  Is there another way that I can clean up the files? Thank you for your time, Jon

Answer:Rescue and Recovery Backup Files

Probably quickest and safest  is to get an external USB 2.0  hard drive (they are very inexpensive these days) either 2.5 laptop or even 3.5 standard HD. Then copy your backup R&R to the external HD,  wipe out all backups on your internal HD ..

Hi all -- I'd appreciate any help on the following problem: I've been performing regular backups of my T60 to an external HDD via USB for about a year now. I've been using Rescue & Recovery version 3.10.0022.00. Everything's been fine until a couple of weeks ago when after about 20 minutes into the backup, a message popped up that said "Backup did not complete sucessfully." The R&R help files are worthless in terms of any sort of troubleshooting information. I have 99 GB of space left on the external drive (at least according to R&R), and the HDD that I'm backing up has signficantly less data than 99 GB so I don't think space is a problem. (Curiously, before I ran the first backup that failed, R&R said I had about 110 or 120 GB free, and only after failing the first time and subsequent times did it say I only had 99 GB free). I've read of people solving some of their R&R problems by reinstalling, but I'm afraid that the newly installed software won't recognize the backups already taken, and I'll be forced to delete them. I don't want to do this for several reasons. Can anyone help? Many thanks.

Answer:Rescue & Recovery Backup Failing on T60

Hi, eacuni. I have no solution to this but am sharing your experience. I am running Windows XP on a T60 FDG1951. Ever since I installed XP Service Pack 3 Rescue and Recovery has not been working properly while before that time I never had problems creating backups. Since installing SP3, Rescue and Recovery aborts backing up 100% of the time, showi ng an error message that simply states either that creating the backup was unsuccessful or - even more simply - that it was aborted. No explanation offered. Uninstalling Rescue and Recovery and newly installing the most recent version (4.21.0016.00), as the IBM/lenovo helpdesk suggested, didn't help any, either. Nor can it be a problem of a lack of space on my hard drive: I'm creating (trying to create, that is) my backups on an external USB drive with a lush 220 GB free. So can anyone of you out there please help poor eacuni and me? Thanks! Thomas

I note that one option is to back up to DVD. If I backup to DVD what do I need/use to recover my system from the DVDs? It would seem that if I must have an operating XP system to recover I might as well backup to disk as I do now.

Answer:Rescue and Recovery - boot when backup is on DVD

Dont try this option of backing up to a DVD. This is not supported. This is what I came to know from the support. My 1 year service agreement expired and My OS had trouble. I had a 3800 J115. I tried to restore to the DVD and it did not work. I called them and they say now that IT IS NOT SUPPORTED.They asked me if I wanted to signup for a new agreement. So I just forgot about my XP and now I am running Linux. Call them ask them to send the backup CD set if you still are under the limited warranty period. When I called them they said they want money which I refused and I took the backup in a DVD which now did not work. But I heard from a friend recently that  he got his set of backup CD's free. So try your luck./koya

I have backed up to an external usb.  When I select backup, the only option available is incremental backup.  I read that it is a good idea, after a lot of system and application updates, to do a new base and then delete the old .  How do get to where that option is available?

Answer:rescue and recovery replacing base backup

skiclou, welcome to the forum,

you need to delete the old base backup before you can create a new base backup.
For security, (I'm a belt and braces person ), I would copy the base backup you have to cds/dvds before deleting it. The options can all be found in R&R advanced menu.

After the most recent Windows security update my computer, Lenovo Idea Centre K330B Windows 7, became sluggish and froze up after a few minutes of use. I was unable to restore to a previous restore point. I was able to back up my system using Lenovo Rescue & Recovery to an external hard drive. I then reset my computer to factory settings to get it running again. Now when I go to my backup files on the external hard drive and try to open them I receive the following - "The image file is not valid. Please select a valid image". I am unable to retreive my backed up data. Any suggestions?

Answer:Rescue and Recovery cannot open backup files

hi jenrick44,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try to:
1. Move the backup.wsi from your external HDD to another PC and format the external HDD as NTFS and set the partition as active.
2. Copy the backup.wsi into the newly foramtted external HDD press the OneKey Recovery button. On the options, select restore from User's Backup and point to the backup.wsi that's located on the external HDD.

If you still get the same error, the backup might have been corrupted and you will need to use the factory image to restore the system.

Hello, So I was having trouble with my Y400 and decided to restore it back to factory settings, but made a backup on my external hd before doing so. At this point I am deciding whether to restore back to the back up but would like to the access files I had. Is there anyway to use the backup files without actually restoring my computer using those files? Also, the backup process created a ton of files named 'backup_000_00X.0XXX' where the X's are various numbers.

Answer:Manually extract files from backup created by onekey recovery

Hi Sdy007,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to inform you that the backed up files cannot be extracted without restoring it to the computer, if tried using any other software will corrupt the mail file.

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Using the Thinkvantage R&R Backup on a weekly schedule.  Basically for accidental deletion of a file.I use a 3rd party app for the OS backup and plan to soon delete the Recov partition since I have the disks and also did a clean upgrade install to Vista Bus 64. ?  I use Thinkvantage R&R for backups to my C: partition.  WHERE do they reside?  I have all files unhidden, etc yet cannot find. I would somehow like to change the incremental backup location to a different partition, thus leaving my OS as unfragmented as possible. Advise?

Answer:T61P Rescue & Recovery Backup file location?

Have not used R&R for a while...last I noticed it was in a hidden folder on C:\.  If you want to delete those files within that folder it must be done by means of the Rescue & Recovery program, as Windows won't let you delete them.  Don't uninstall R&R first and then try and delete the hidden folder, Windows will not allow that.

My harddrive failed on my T440p.  The techs just replaced the hd with a new one and ran the recovery cds.  I then proceded to enter the Rescue and Recovery partition to do a full system restore from my external hd and I get the following error:  "one or more partitions could not be restored because the partition does not exist" I tried calling tech support and the refuse to help as my warranty supposedly does not cover using any of their software, just hardware.  Please can someone help. Specs:T440p 500GB mechanical drive with a 16GB ssd from the factory.

HI All, Can anyone tell me how to properly partition the HD in order for the Blue Button(thinkVantage) to work again? Does it matter in the order how you create the partition...? (I create one partition then separate them via Partition Manager)I load the image back via Norton Ghost v10... but the Rescue and Recovery section is not responding... I remember the section is created as (EISA system) as it is reported by Disk Manger (not extended or logical type) Please help here... thanks

Answer:How to partition HD in order to load the rescue and recovery backup

Don't bother the partition or it will not work. You probably need to fix the MBR with this.

Greetings everyone! Problem 1I have a new Y480 (Windows 7 - 64 bit). When using OneKey Recovery and choosing to attempt burning 'recovery discs with existing backup image', then the defaults are chosen on the next screen (Source: Default Path; Image Path: D:\Lenovo\OneKey App\OneKey Recovery\backup.wsi), an error of: "The image file is not valid. Please select a valid image file" appears. The 'Select Another Image' option under the 'source' cryptically proves no help. Problem 2Also, It was stated in the documentation that system backups could be made to discs. NOT! Apparently the only option is a hard drive. It does not allow the disc drive to be a destination. BTW... the D: partition is too small to accept a system backup! Who planned that out? So... anyone out there able to help me make 'recovery discs with existing backup image'? Thanks!

Dear Dell,
I am trying to create recovery discs from "Dell backup and Recovery application" however when i was asked to insert the second DVD,the optical drive keeps rejecting the DVD. The application will not continue to burn the second DVD and appears to be frozen. I tyied with different brands/makers of DVD and also -/+ R. Unfortunately .Issue remains. I was able to find this article   593906  Published on 2013-01-21  ( relative link http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?c=us&cs=19&docid=593906&doclang=en&l=en&s=dhs   ). Although i have done the updates ,i am still not able to create recovery discs !!   Current Issue:  after inserting the  3rd Disc application gives the following message "Dbr.exe -No disc found" and stays there and rejects the DVD.  I spoke with Dell's Greek Support team. I was told that warranty does not cover sw support even if my unit is less than a week old. Furthermore i was informed that although "Dell backup and recovery" application says DELL is not actually a Dell product thus they can't support it. They suggested my to use windows 7 file recovery instead (which needs at least 8 DVDs !). As you can understand this is a workaround and not a Solution.
I hope that someone from Dell is going to look into it and revert with a specific answer and permanent solution.   (Model  : inspiron 15  3521)&... Read more

Answer:Dell Backup and Recovery is Unable to Create a Recovery DVD on Windows 8

Hi ylikonomos,
You can try to uninstall and re-install Dell Backup and Recovery Manager and Dell Support Center. Follow these steps:

Press Windows+ 'X' key on the keyboard.
Select 'Programs and Features' from the context menu that appears on the left bottom corner.

Uninstall Dell Backup and Recovery Manager and Dell Support Center from the application list.

Hereafter, check the BIOS version installed on the laptop. Press Windows + 'R' key, type msinfo32 and press Enter.   Locate the BIOS version. If it is A04, the BIOS update is not required. If not, update BIOS. Before flashing the BIOS please check the following:* No external devices (printer, USB drive, SD card, DVD) should be connected.* All other programs should be closed and documents saved.* The AC adapter and battery should be connected during this process. The battery should be 10% or more than 10% charged.
Here is the link for BIOS update: http://dell.to/VBwSAh. The laptop will reboot after this update. Visit this link: http://dell.to/VBz1fr and click Dell Support Center. Download and install the application. Once done, visit this link: http://bit.ly/UUjIs0 and install Dell Backup and Recovery Manager. Reboot the computer and check if you are able to create the recovery media.
Please try these steps and share the status.

It will actually get to the end of copying the HD image to my Seagate USB storage device, then have to shut down and restart due to an error detected by windows. Please help. Tried to do it manually and message "zugriff verweigert" (Access denied) appeared.  How can I override message? Or How can I back load the mentioned program from the external Back-up HD?

Hi All,Note that I was a registered Lenovo user already when this story started. It started with a Rescue & Recovery issue. When it is asked to copy a backup to USB drive, it has deleted/overwritten another backup on the USB drive. It happened to be my Vista Business. No warning or anything. I would like to have it back.So I visited the Lenovo site and tried to troubleshoot. There was no useful information to be found or it was not easily accessible. Then I tried to submit a request. It warned me for the necessity of a warranty status check. It offers the auto-detect and the manual status check. None of these worked. The auto-detect was possibly because I use XP. However, the suggested recipe for XP did not work either: I was not offered to install any ActiveX. The manual one gave a ?our apologies. No warranty information.?Anyway, I trust in my warranty, since I bought it only a month ago, so I go on with the ?submit a request.? After selecting EMEA, I got a site that is applicable to US only.Afterwards, I clicked ?My account? and got ?our apologies? the requested page cannot be found. Kept on trying, so I went to the forum, and wanted to login. Since I have not received any password, I filled in my registered e-mail address. It said it was not registered. Finally, I created a new account and I could post this message. The original issue is in my main interest, while I would not mind if the rest was also picked up.lenovouser1Thinkpad SL-300, XP downgr... Answer:One Key Recovery - cannot create system backup

Hi thanver,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The repartitioning that you did might have rendered the OKR partition not to work.
Can you verify this be trying to run an OKR environment? (This is just a test and not to perform an OKR but just to check the OKR environment) Once inside the OKR environment click the exit.

How to Boot to OKR?

If laptop
Turn the system OFF and press the OKR button and select the recovery
See if the system can boot into recovery mode.

IF Desktop or AIO
Turn OFF the cmoputer and turn it back on and start tapping F2, Select Recovery

Let me know your findings
Regards

It is very valuable for me and I can't decide in which way to backup recovery medias.I have used onekey recovery to turn to factory settings many times. DVD or USB?Also the reason that in Turkey Lenovo Support team did not provide free recovery DVD or usb during warranty time period which is 2 years in my country. So can you tell me what to do? Shall I find an external DVD writer and create DVD backup or a usb flash driver? If the answer is USB device what should be the size of it 4gigs 8gigs or 16gigs?Also does it matter to use usb 2.0 or 3.0 flash drive.I know it took a bit long to tell but I was thinking about those subjects a long while.Thank you from now for your important replies.

Answer:What is the most secure way to create recovery backup? U300s

hi nohackmove,i have been using s10-3 for more than 2 years. as you know, warranty is already expired and the system doesn't have any dvd-rom. i also didn't create any backup (either dvd or usb).if you are careful to use your computer and you don't make any changes such as partitioning the disc, you won't even need to create a backup but it's suggested to create some.at this point, it would be safer to create a usb recovery (easy to carry). my suggestion is to use usb 3.o if you don't want to wait long during the process. 8gb would be enough if you create "factory" backup.hope this helps.

Hi,
I bought a y510p preinstalled with Win 8.1. All I did was I swtiched from HDD to SSD using Samsung tool (that migrates one-to-one to SSD).
Now when I want to use OKR it says that it cannot create backup.
In fact, I wasn't able to do it also before migration

There was a major win8 upgrade right after I purchased the PC - could that lead to OKR disfunction?

Anyways - I have purchased the laptop with OS and now I can't use the purchased function. This is sort of disappointing.

Any suggestions?

So this does not include the okr program. If you did not erase or wipe the orignal hdd you can still make a backup of the factory os or make a okr usb flash drive so that you will be able to use your new ssd with okr functioning.

I read the User Guide and it explains how to create a system backup by backing up to a partition on the hard drive. So I did as instructed and the system told me that I would need 151GB of space to create the backup up image but I only have 1.5GB spare. Maybe I am missing something but surely there would hardly ever be enough space to perform a backup to a partition on the hard drive for 99% of people so why do Lenovo suggest it?PS I am aware that I could backup to an external hard drive although I don't have one.

Hi,
I have an XPS Ultrabook which has had it's SSD erased (long story). I have accessed the Dell Support page and downloaded the Recovery & Restore image (using the service tag) and used this to create the recovery USB.
Booting the USB, it does the drive diagnostics, then file checks (nothing to check so continues) and on to the backup stage. At the end of this, whether I skip or let it run through the "backup" it always then fails afterwards with: "Cannot create personality settings backup, required information are missing on system drive" and then it never lets me go on to the image reinstall process.
Can anyone suggest how to get this working? I just want to restore it to factory install which should be the downloaded image?
Thanks

Answer:Recovery & Restore fails with 'cannot create personality settings backup'

Instructions in using the Windows 10 10586 TH2 Recovery .iso from Dell are here:

Hello everyone,  I've been attempting to create a backup image via the OneKey Recovery software on my Lenovo 3000 G530 laptop without success. Although I haven't allowed the image creation to continue for more than 2 days, it seems a bit long to create a 12GB image. The last 2 attempts at creating a backup image I've tried with and without compression. It starts at about 1-2 hours or estimated time but once it hits 24-25 percent, it begins to jump to 25-55 hours or estimated time remaining. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to speed this process up? Has anyone else experienced this? Kind regards,Janketh Jay, III

Basically I am afriad one day, my harddrive is failed or if I want to replace harddrive, I can reimage the harddrive back to factory setting and its OS (win 7).  Would you share with me on the steps to do so?I opened the OKR software and click on "Create Recovery Disk" -> "Factory Default Setting Disk" and Next,  I couldn't see my USB drive? any one knows why? thanks in advance.New S205 owner.

Answer:S205 - Steps to create a bootable USB drive using One Key Recovery (OKR) for backup image.

hi hippodog.
it's because usb drivers are not compatible with okr 7. but you can use external hdd to create backups.

Regular backups are performed on our Thinkcentre computer (runing XP Professional), but have completely taken over the harddrive so that we can't function.  How can delete some of these old backup files?  The computer is old...it has IBM Rescue & Recovery V2.0....I do not see a "Delete Backup" option...so how do get rid of these?

Hi, I am using a T400, window 7, 32 bits. Yesterday I accidentally clicked on  Start > All Programs > ThinkVantage> Create product recovery media or Create recovery media. I am not sure about which programs I clicked on but it appears an open up window asking me if I want to insert recovery disk, then I click no. It disappeared. It didn't tell me anything( like all the data will be lost and there is no progress box either; it happened very fast like in 5 seconds) and then I find that all my data in hard drive D is gone. I can not see hard drive D anymore in My computer. However I can find the partition titled "recovery partition" with 100% free storage in replace for my hard drive D in the storage management of  My computer and I cannot access it. I am so scared that I don't turn off the laptop 'till now. All the programs are working normal because I installed them on hard drive C but all the data on drive D is lost. Anyone has the same problems? I wonder such a serious software but doesn't have any prior notice to customer that it will cause data loss like this? Thanks.

Hi there people. First post so sorry if it's in the wrong place or anything. I've had as much of a search as I can and haven't found anyone with quite the same situation as me. The questions come at the end of the rambling background to my problem!!! Hope you can make it through to the end! My E520 recently just went beyond it's warranty and surprise surprise fairly soon after that I got a warning through ThinkVantage that there was a problem with my internal hard drive. When I googled the problem it said that the hard drive was going to fail and to replace it immediately.  As I (like an idiot) hadn't got round to backing up my computer properly (I'd saved all music, photos and videos to a seperate hard drive but hadn't done a Rescue and Recovery or Windows back up) I went out and bought a seperate hard drive to back up the computer and some disks to create the recovery boot disks.  When I went to the Q drive to do this I misunderstood the question about do I want to create a data back up disk. I thought this meant all my media so I said no and created just the boot recovery disks.  So my question (told you I'd get there) is this. When I replace the internal hard drive and use the boot disks to install windows will I then be able to use the Lenovo Rescue and Recovery to restore my computer to it's former glory? Or will the fact that I'm not restoring the Lenovo skin (sorry if my terminology is wrong here. Not sure what to call it) ... Read more

I recently created Recovery Discs in Windows XP, but when I insert Disc 2, it always says that it is the incorrect disc so I cannot continue the factory restore. Now I'm trying to restore by booting into the Rescue and Recovery on my hard drive, but it cannot find the hidden factory partition on the hd. It also now says that the restore had a "convertion" error when it wouldn't recognize disc 2 and will not let me try to look at my hard drive to restore anymore. If I use the RR boot disc, it will let me try to restore, but it finds nothing restorable on the HD.I did look at the hard drive and see 2 partitions with one being a IBM_SERVICE partition with 3.9GB total size and 2.9GB free space. Please help, thanks.

Answer:t43: Recovery Discs are corrupt and Rescue and Recovery won't restore from the Hard Drive?

My T61's Rescue and Recovery software in WinXP can't recognise/use the Vista's ServiseV002 partition to go back to factory settings.  I tried both in the pre-boot program and the Rescue and Recovery  in windows Xp, but both of them can't get to the hidden partition to go back to factory settings. I didnt make a rescue CD before formatting the C drive. I think the hidden partition is enough for me to get a clean Vista when I want at that time but I am wrong.  Hope someone can get me an answer, thank you! BTW i am in a educational system, I can get Vista Ultimate for 7 bucks, so if I can't get the Vista from the hidden drive, I can just bought one from school. It's not the end of the world!!!

I am doing a fresh install in the following rather than cloning because the system has not been reinstalled for 4yrs.  From an external usb CD drive (internal drive removed) I installed the recovery disks onto a 160GB Samsung HM160HC PATA drive with no problem .  Then clicked the restart button.  My T42 booted right back into the opening page of the Rescue and Recovery routine.  On restarting again I used F12 to get the list of drives and selected the Samsung HDD.  This did not help.  Have repeated startup numerous times.  The computer could not be looking at any other drive because the Samsung is the only one connected.  I am tempted to download Lenovo's available BIOS update while logged-in with the old 30GB drive regardless of the fact that my  Embedded Controller Program is ver 3.04 and supposed to be suitable for the 160GB drive upgrade.  If anyone has a suggestion please let me know.

Answer:T42 HDD upgrade- Recovery disks install but hard drive only boots to Rescue and Recovery routine.

Welcome to the forum!

Wipe the hard drive clean.

Boot from the first (Rescue & Recovery CD) and follow the prompts. You'll have 7 more CDs to go through (5 for the earlier version).

Once the process is complete, the machine will instruct you to remove the final CD and reboot. At that point, you should be able to boot from the hard drive with no interaction required.

Good luck.

I installed Ubuntu GNU/Linux in my 3000 N100 0768GZQ laptop and deleted the partition in which i had installed Vista using fdisk. However, fdisk also deleted the Lenovo rescue and recovery partition. Not realizing this i created 2 new partitions in the free space. Now I want to install Vista in one of these partitions and I don't have a Lenovo Rescue and Recovery drive or the recovery CDs. Please help me.

Answer:Lost Lenovo Rescue and recovery partition in 3000 N100 0768GZQ have no recovery disks, please help

You can either get a hold of Vista installation disks and install it manually, or call Lenovo support and ask for recovery disks. They may charge you for the disks as you are supposed to create your own recovery disks.

We had to buy a new desktop with windows 8 installed and I was going to try the windows backup and image program but I haven't been able to make a rescue disc that will boot. When I restart the computer the disc drive runs but it boots directly to the system. Is this normal if there isn't a problem? I have not installed hardly anything so there shouldn't be a conflict. I get the same result with a disc made with the Dell restore program. Thanks for any help. Rocky

Hello,

I need to "Create A Rescue Disk" and I don't have a floppy drive?

Does anybody know how to create one onto a CD or something??

Why the heck don't they have support for CD as well as a Floppy in 2006 is beyond me?!

My comp. is running "Win XP Home sp2" and right now I can't get passed the login/password screen when you first boot up? Once I put my password in and press Enter, the computer then just restarts?

I can't even start the comp. in Safe Mode because when I get to that F8 screen the Keyboard stops working so i can't select SAFE MODE.
I am coming to you from my laptop which does Not have a floppy drive, but my computer that is down Does have one....lol!
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you.

Hopefully someone assist: I have a z61t running XPPro The Recovery CDs (7 discs) were not recognized by the Rescue and Recovery program. It tells me to insert the Last Disc in the series, but nothing is recognized from all the CDs. I performed CD boot from the first Recovery CD; was prompted to insert the last disc but nothing is recognized. How would I go about restoring my system to factory settings, since the created Recovery CDs seem to be useless. Any suggestions?

Answer:z61t - Created Recovery CDs not recognized by Rescue and Recovery Program

ojomon, welcome to the forum,

If you created a recovery cd set you will need to boot from the boot cd you also created, this was the first one.

After I did a clean install of Win10 about a year ago, I created a USB Recovery Drive. I also have a Norton Security Recovery Drive and I?ve created USB Bootable PE Rescue Disk by Kyhi. I also use Acronis to create regular full disk images and I have a USB Bootable Acronis Rescue Drive.

With the USB Recovery Drive and the USB Bootable PE Rescue Disk by Kyhi, do I still need to keep the Recovery Partition that Win10 created when I did the original install? Are the files in that partition used by the system to create the USB Recovery Drive?

Also out of curiosity I executed the ?reagentc/info? command and I see that the Windows RE status is disabled. Did creating the USB Recovery Drive do that or is something else going on? If I keep the recovery partition then do I need to re-enable it and if so how do I do that?

Answer:Recovery Drive vs Recovery Partition vs PE Rescue Disk, confused.

Hi, you don't need the manufacturer's recovery partition unless you planned to restore the PC to as bought e.g. to sell it on.
You could create a disk image of it and save it on an external disk, then delete it from your PC.

Windows RE: Suggests you have a corrupt or missing partition - System Reserved. Note that Disk Management does not show this 16Mb partition. You need a 3rd party partition manager to see it.

See this (lots of technical detail):
Just a moment...

And do a couple of checks to see if it really is missing.

Hi, I own a T60 laptop with Windows XP professional.I bought the Product Recovery CDs separately, around 1 year ago.Now my HDD has completely died, I cannot restore the orginal configuration. So, I got a new HDD, and tried using the product recovery CDs, but realized that I do not have a bootable CD which can ask me to load these product recovery CDs. It seems that Lenovo forgot to ship me this bootable disc - which I have found in forums is called - "Rescue and Recovery CD". How can I get these rescue and recovery CD? I want to clean install Windows 10, and I already did that before using the tutorial here.
But last time I did not have Ubuntu install.
And in the tutorial, you must delete all partitions in order for Windows to create the special necessary partitions (Recovery, MSR, MBR etc..)
But now that I have a Linux partition that I don't want to delete, and according to the tutorial, Windows installation will not create these partitions.

How can I manually create them? Is it simply allocating a space for them and naming them the proper way and Windows will know how to use them? Or there's more than that?
Also, What happens if I do not have these partitions?

Thanks!

Answer:Clean install - how to manually create the special partitions

You don't have to delete all partitions. As long as you leave the partition unallocated (excluded UBUNTU partition) then Windows should create all needed partitions.
NOTE: If you install Windows with UBUNTU already existed, Windows is not aware of UBUNTU. You would need to use EasyBCD to create a boot entry for UBUNTU for dual booting.

Do you use Macrium to backup Windows ? If so, you don't need to re-install Windows. Just use Macrium to copy all Windows partitions back to the SSD/HD unless your Windows 10 does not function properly and you want to re-install.

I have created a database that uses a form to distribute the data to various tables, which subsequently feeds queries and reports. In my main form, there are several subforms for which I have successfully created master/child links. However, in order to make the form easier to use. I created a button on the main form that opens a subform. Unfortunately, the subform isn't linked to the main form in order to associate the subforms data to the contact information in the main form. Is there a way to manually create a master/child link without including the subform automatically in the main form?
