Can not turn on wireless on R61i

Question: Can not turn on wireless on R61i

Hi, I have a R61i with WinXP Pro SP3. The wireless network ( Intel 3945ABG) was working just fine until today when it suddenly stopped working. The network adapter is listed in the devices list but the system says it is turned off and I should slide the network switch to the on position. Except it doesn't have a hardware switch. When I try Fn+F5 it simply says "Unable to change power state" and to update the driver. I have installed the latest driver but no luck. The system sees the adapter but it thinks it is turned off. Any ideas how to fix this??

Preferred Solution: Can not turn on wireless on R61i

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

From one day to another the wireless adapter on my Thinkpad was switched off. The hardware switch is on, and bluetooth is working. Nothing happens when pressing Fn+F5 and clicking the on-off button. In the device manager in XP (SP3) the Intel wireless adpater is activated and working normally. If it's hardware failure, can the card be replaced? Or is it part of the main board? Please help! Ramón

Answer:Can't turn on wireless on R61i

Just figured out that a recent upgrade of Windows Live Messenger caused the problem. Uninstalled the **bleep** thing and the wireless started working again. And one more thing, all the time the wireless lamp was on and blinking every 4 seconds (allthough according to the status in Fn+F5 it was off).

Hello,   I have a thinkpad R61i 8932 CTO. Couple of days back Wireless radio refused to turn On after boot. Wifi light is On though and the hardware switch is also On but radio state is Off. It worked just fine till last time laptop was turned Off and one fine morning radio wont turn to On state. I have Win Vista Home Basic and I did not do anything that (I think) could relate to this problem. I also see unusually long period (4-5 min) of blank screen (with only cursor showing) after entering login password. I did change CPU of this machine several months ago; if this has anything to do with it. Help please! Thanks

Answer:R61i Wireless Adaptor wont turn On !

Hey there greybird,

Here is a very helpful troubleshooting article that may be of some use to you. It does not seem reasonable that the CPU change from several months ago would be directly related to you Radio not turning on currently. Have you tried hitting Fn+F5 to pull up the control?

I have seen with a few others that a system restore, returned functionality to their machines, and this may be a option for you after doing a back up of course. Hope this helps, Good Luck.

Hi Forum, Can anyone help me  I have an R61i Thinkpad that just will not turn on. It's vey confusing because it was working fine and now - nothing. It's been very well looked after - never been dropped or anything like that. I just shut it down like normal and now nothing happens when I press the power button. I've tried replacing the battery with one that I know works, that didn't fix it. I've tried taking the memory out and putting it back in, that didn't work either. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem? And if anyone knows what the problem might be and how to fix it. CheersHayden

Answer:My R61i just won't turn on ?

Hi narsti, Try this:-1.) Unplug the power cord and the battery.2.) Press the 'Power' Button 10 times repeatedly.3.) Then hold the 'Power' Button down for 25 seconds.4.) Put the battery back in and plug the power cord back in.

Hello Lenovo Support Forum Team! I'm pretty sure I've asked the forum in the past re:  this problem, so apologize in advance for the repetition.  Could not find my past posts. The wireless on my R61i is not working.  Product is 8932-CTO.  OS is XP Prof.  The adapter description says "11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter". When I power on Wireless Radio, it is not associated and the signal strength is 15%. I know that the access point is working properly, as other devices are working fine. Can you help me please? Thanks!

I did a fresh install of vista ultimate on this laptop and downloaded all drivers for it. However, i cant seem to find a single driver for the wireless that works. The diagnose and repair option keeps telling me that i dont have a wireless lan adapter or driver for it installed. The wireless light doesnt turn on either. It was working just fine before i reinstalled windows. I install just as the instructions say i.e. the administrator account. I even tried running it as administrator from within the user account. and nothing. The only things that are installed are the drivers and windows updates. So i doubt anything could be interfering. Answer:R61i wireless quits after some time

Hi ronmiller,

Welcome to the Lenovo forum!

Thank you for posting your ThinkPad's model type number. ltwbook indicates that your R61i does not have Bluetooth, and has Intel 3945ABG wireless. It sounds to me as if there may be a hardware problem -- perhaps the wireless card is not making good contact with its mini-PCIe socket. You could try removing and then re-installing the wireless card in order to re-seat it in its socket and hopefully improve its connection. The Hardware Maintenance Manual (pdf available for download from Lenovo Service website) has instructions, and you can watch video at:
http://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/ion/

You could also try burning and booting from the PC Doctor CD (also from Lenovo Service site) and running all the tests to check your ThinkPad for hardware problems.

Good luck!
-Frank

So yeah, im not the actual owner of this laptop; i am the repair guy... They brought it to me with a very bad variety of viruses that included a few rootkits that i could not get rid of, so i ended up just reinstalling Windows XP Pro with SP3 integrated. After i did this, i went on the lenovo website and downloaded a bunch of drivers for it and i got everything but the Wireless Ethernet to work. It shows the wireless connection icon in the system tray, but when you search for networks it doesnt find anything, even though i am certain that it is visible and broadcasting. Can anyone help me out?P.S. i have done the troubleshooting page, but no results. Also:I cannot get the wired networking to work either...

Hey guys can you help I bought two r61i laptops and downgraded them to XP. The first one i installed the wrong driver for the wireless, and then installed the correct one. However it just tells me there is no wireless networks available, the driver appears in device manager and claims to be installed. However the wireless does not show up in the radio controls (fn*f5), i have tried to uninstall all the drivers, and follow some instuctions to uninstall access controllers also. But every time i reinstall i get a number higher on my wireless conection i am correctly upto number 8. I think i need to find a way to completly remove all the drivers i have installed, so that my system does on pick them up when i reinstall the drivers. any ideas would be great thanks the other laptop installed first time with the correct drivers.

I had to reload an R61i Thinkpad with Windows XP.  I reinstalled the Thinkpad Wireless driver, and it appeared to install successfully, but in device manager still shows under Other Devices as just Network Controller with a yellow exclamation point.  I went to the driver page on the Lenovo site and redownloaded it - same result.  The other driver shown on that page goes to a "page unavailable."  How can I get a wireless driver that will work?

I am running Windows 7 Home Professional 64-bit on a Lenovo R61i with 2 GB of RAM and an Intel Pentium Dual CPU 1.87GHZ. I was playing CIV IV earlier today, and in the middle of the game the sound lagged for about 20 seconds, screen went black and resized, then went back to normal.  Strangely enough, the green wifi signal light turned off and I was disconnected from all internet applications.  I tried to use the Windows troubleshoot, but when it attempted to restart the network adapter the same failure occurred as happened during CIV IV, even though at this point I had exited the game as well as Steam. I also got the popup message "The display driver has stopped working and has recovered". I reinstalled my graphics card driver as well as my wireless drivers, and i checked ThinkVantage System Update, everything is updated and current. I have no clue how the display driver is connected to the wireless adapter turning off, but when I reenable it the display driver fails, however, only sometimes. So its as if the wireless adapter is somehow affecting/affected by the display driver. Starting in safe mode with networking also leaves the adapter disabled. I can use bluetooth though, and at no point does the wireless light turn on. Any suggestions would be awesome Im about to toss this computer out a window

Few months ago I've bought Lenovo TP R61i 8918 DMG, cleaned it and installed Vista Business. I don't remember any problems with wireless installation (I'm not sure weather I installed it before or after bluetooth, if it matters), since I used wired LAN back then, I turned off wireless with Fn+F5.After that I upgraded my Vista with SP1. Few days ago I had to switch to wireless, so I checked Fn+F5 to find out wireless is missing there. Then I've found there's no wireless connection icon and "manage wireless network connections" in Network and Sharing Center. Also no Wireless in Device Manager. There is under Other Devices a "Network Controller" but I can't either reinstall it (clicking that button), and under Driver tab (Properties, Driver, Driver details icon) it says that no drivers are required or have been loaded for that device. Wireless/network switch is on.I don't have any old restore points. Wireless is set to ON in BIOS. I tried installing then uninstalled Access Connections since I don't use it.I tried manually installing wireless driver (7rwv10ww.exe)Please help

Yesterday I used the Fn-F5 key to turn off the wireless radio. Today when I attempted to use the same key to turn the antenna back on, it fails to display on screen and will not turn the antenna back on. Other Function keys are working properly. I have disabled and re-enabled the card, reinstalled the drivers No change.

Answer:Used F-Key to turn off wireless antenna, now it will not turn on

Fixed by reinstalling Energy Management. I had uninstalled as there seemed to be more than one energy/battery management program.

Nowadays, wireless router is a basic device at home because wireless access point (AP) is required. Sometime, a wireless repeater is also needed in a big house especially that with a big yard. Actually, without wireless router, only a Windows 7 laptop can be turned into a WiFi hotpot or a wireless repeater. Many discussions can be found online regarding how to turn Windows 7 laptop into a WiFi AP or virtual WIFI hotpot, however, the internet surfing is based on a local area connection. If wanna extend a WIFI signal to an enhanced new wireless AP, generally two wireless adapters are considered.

Here, differently, with only one wireless adapter but without 3rd-party software, we can setup a wireless repeater in a Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium laptop with only one wireless adapter. This can boost the wireless signal to smartphones, tablet computers, or other wireless devices. Also, the mobility and flexibility allow extending the signal to a yard or a garage conveniently as you want.

It is known that a virtual wireless adapter can be created with a third party software or only Windows 7 built-in commands. But in Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium, usually the virtual wireless adapter cannot be created or a hosted network cannot be started. I found a specific approach to clear the issues.

We can follow the steps (successful setup in my two Windows 7 Home laptops),

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and th... Read more

Answer:Turn Windows 7 Laptop into Wireless Repeater with One Wireless Adapter

This method is available for starting soft AP of Windows 7 Home Premium laptop when set up repeater, some third party softwares or methods can create soft AP for Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate only.

Hi everyone... After reinstalling windows, I kept getting the "Turn on your wireless capabilty" message. I was pressing the Fn + F9 combination, yet nothing happened. I am sad to say, that lenovo has very poor driver download selection:for my model, i could download 4 different wireless adapter drivers (everything from intel to realtek). So how was i supposed to know which driver to get.... So the first thing I checked was the BIOS settings, if i had the wireless radio ON.... After downloading the correct driver... I still kept getting the same message... Checking the wireless card was not disabled in the Network diagnostics... AGAIN IT DID NOT WORK ANYWAY... The problem was not in the driver, or the BIOS, or the WINDOWS 7 SETTING. The problem was with the motherboard???bios???powermanagement??? setting I had to install the Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 7.... After that it was still not working... Then I installed Power Manager for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad Key combination still not working... no wireless internet THEN I INSTALLED ThinkPad Power Management driver for Windows 7 After EVERYTHING installed, the menu came back and i could enable the WIRELESS adapter. FML...Thank you lenovo, for making this a horrible experience...  Lenovo, I am dissapoint....

Answer:WIRELESS problem SOLVED "Turn on your wireless capabilty"

i've got the same story ... i found many drivers for wireless...i've a low internet connection ..hours to download them all ... and nothing happened .... just because of power management .. thanks lenovo for 12 hours lost in this cause ...

I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop runing Windows 7.

I bought this computer a year ago, and have never used my wireless card.

I'm trying to enable it, and when I go to Windows Mobility Center, the "Turn Wireless On" command is greyed out.

Under Device Manager, it indicates that my wireless card, a Realtek RTL819SE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC, is working properly. I went to the driver tab and disabled it and then enabled it again just to make sure, but that didn't affect this problem.

Can anyone tell me how to enable my wireless card?

Answer:"Turn Wireless On" is greyed out for wireless card - Windows Mobility Center

Look for a switch on the front, or try something like Control and the function key with the wireless symbol on it, by pressing both at the same time. My Acer Netbook, it is Ctrl-F2, but may be different on yours.

I cannot turn on my wireless.  I tried toggling the on/off switch on the left-hand-side of the laptop and also pressing Fn + F5.  Neither one makes the wireless light come on; the laptop says it can't find wireless connections, and when I hit "Troubleshoot" it recommends switching on the wireless device.  The Wifi adapter is enabled under Device Manager.  The wireless light blinks once when the computer is turned on--so I know it's not an issue with the LED.  Everything worked just fine 3 months ago, then I didn't use the computer for a bit, and now this.  Can someone please help out?  Thank you. -Mike

Answer:S-10 wireless won't turn on

make sure function keys are working. if not ,re-install power management. also, when you press fn + f5, wireless management windows will appear, make sure you activate the wireless by clicking on/off button.also, check bios if the wireless is enabled. ( press f2 to load bios when you see lenovo logo at start-up )

I must of turn off the wireless connection on my HP Envy 17t laptop. How do I turn in back on?

Answer:how do I turn on wireless

mikiejo Checking the HP product page for your laptop, it does not show it coming with MacOS preinstalled -- so this is something you must have done yourself. The problem is most likely the lack of HP WiFi drivers for MacOS. HP only provides drivers and support for OS versions that come with the laptop. IF you replaced the OS version originally on the PC with MacOS, that was a bad decision on your part.

Hi

I have a Compaq Presario C70EM , it was originally Vista and had reformatted it to Xp proffesional. For some reason my wireless would not turn on , after abit of googling i think i have a missing driver , couldnt locate it in driver diagnostics although there is an "unknown device". I have tried various driver detective software to try and find this driver, but to no avail. If someone could help me sort this , wud be grateful.

Cheers

Answer:Wireless Does not turn on..Help!

Only HP/Compaq have the correct drivers for HP/Compaq computers & laptops, but they might not have XP drivers for your model if XP was not pre-installed on it at the factory.
If they don't have XP drivers for that model, you will have to re-install Vista.

Go here & select appropriate country at top right of page: Compaq - Support for Presario notebooks and desktops.

Re-check your model number as Presario C70EM is not listed.

Hey folks. I'm using an Acer Aspire 5735 on Vista home premium. I accidentally disconnected my wireless today and since then I can't turn it back on. I've tried the following to no avail:

Pressing the wireless button (seems to be broken)Going into network settings and trying to disable and re-enable the network adapter in settings but this freezes my computer for some reason.Setting up a new network but it seems like my wireless is completely turned off.

I'm at a loss as to why it's stopped working.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated guys

Answer:Wireless won't turn on

odd. Very odd.

I would go to the device manager and try to uninstall it. Then readd it using the scan for new hardware changes.

How did you accidently turn it off? Might help figuring out how to fix it.

My laptop with Presario 3000 windows xp. The wirless button willnot turn on. I press on it to click on so I can go wireless but the blue light that would indicate that the wireless is on will not turn on.

Answer:Wireless won't turn on

Four possibilities come to mind ...

a. The switch is broken.
b. Somehow the wireless became disabled in the BIOS (Setup). Check it.
c. The adapter is loose or not making good contact. With laptop unplugged and battery removed, remove the bottom cover over the adapter, remove the adapter, and carefully and firmly reinsert it.
d. The adapter or the portion of the motherboard to which it connects is defective.

We have a fairly new Asus laptop and for some reason we can't get the wireless to turn on any more.

It has a Function button method to turn it on and off and any time you use this button it shows the WLAN simple with a red line through it. No matter how many times you press it it does the samething.

I've tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling, ran a security update for the drivers. When I go into the wireless connection and try and turn it on it shows that it has a signal (not sure what to) but a red X next to the connection in Windows 7. I can't actually see any wireless signals so I'm kind of at a loss.

A hard connection works fine and I tried rolling back to a previous version in case it was an update but that didn't help. The wife thinks the cat stepped on the keyboard and that's the only thing I can think of. Is that there is some keyboard command I need to do to turn it back on. There is no hard switch.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:Wireless won't turn on

I can't remember HOW to do this is 7, but I know that I had to do it last week when I changed a wireless password key. I had to go in to the advanced settings and find the networks. There is a list where you can change the preferred order or delete networks. Find yours and delete it.

What model Asus is it? Win 7 is making me batty lately.

You uninstalled the drivers or you uninstalled the wireless card? You should uninstall the card and reboot.

It shows connected but also a red X -- I'm going to go with removing the network from the list and re-entering the password first since that is what I had, then I'd move on to checking IP's, etc.

I just a new tablet PC, the Asus R1F, and the first time it went into power save mode it turned the wireless card off, and now I absolutely cannot find a way to turn it back on. The computer is using the Intel PRO Wireless configuration tool, which tells me that 'wireless is turned off, click below to turn it back on', but there is no option to turn it on. The software will not let me use Windows to configure wireless. The wireless on/off switch is definitely switched on.

I could only find one other page on the internet where someone was having a similar problem is here:

http://forums.vnunet.com/thread.jspa?forumID=23&threadID=71718

...but I tried everything that guy tried in his first post with no luck (rebooting, repairing the connection, using device manager etc) and the solution he quotes in his last post does not work for me either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

After some house cleaning (Cleaning out temp files, ran CCleaner's registry clean, tweaking some services, updating some drivers and deleting an unused dual-boot partition) I ran into BSODs on boot. Repair, and restore points didn't help. Ended up fixing my boot problem through BCDEDIT.exe, deleted the entries then going back to a previous restore point a few hours old.

Now that my system is up and running again I can't seem to get Wireless enabled. No wireless networks are shown.
Here's a list of things I've gone through.
-Windows Network Diagnostics says to Turn on wireless capability, fails to fix it.
-Enabled in device manager and Network adapters
-Wireless is enabled in BIOS
-Wireless switch on laptop is on
-Deleted device and drivers. Reinstalled device with latest drivers.
-Checked services, WLAN AutoConfig is running
-Windows Mobility Center's "Turn Wireless On" is greyed out
-Wireless Card is shown in ipconfig, auto configuration is enabled, state shown as Media disconnected

Is there any other services I should check to make sure they are running?
Any registry entries that can be checked?

Answer:Cannot turn Wireless On

So found out my problem. HP has a setting in the BIOS for LAN/WLAN Switching, it will disable the wireless card and not alert you to that fact, if it finds a wired connection (working or not).

Whoa??what happened? My 2yr-2mo old T61p has performed flawlessly until yesterday. Started auto shut downs, then freeze-ups. Thought I had a virus but couldn?t scan for some reason. Called Norton and confirmed my account still valid. Couldn't explain inability to virus scan and suggested updating to their last release. Began that process via DSL but then lost all ability to connect?.wireless now off and will not turn on & can?t connect via Ethernet either. The net is fine, other devices are working. Opened w/ last known good config. but still getting freeze-ups and no communications?.all communications icons have red x?s and unable to roll back to prior drivers....none now exist.??  Anyone successfully overcome anything similar? Reinstall communications drivers is my 1st thought to reinitiate the Norton u'grade however I didn?t get the discs when I bought new from Lenovo. Thanks

I looked in the control panel and clicked the broadcom wireless utility and it says "no adapters"

I tried installing the intel porset driver but it crashed on startup. I had to startup in safe mode and uninstall the driver to get it to start up again.

so . . . what next?

Answer:how can I get the wireless to turn on?

What appears in Device Manager under Network adapters? If the Intel wireless card isn't there, that's the first thing to fix. Does it perhaps appear with a yellow ? or ! under other devices? That would indicate a driver issue.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

did you reconfigure your wireless settings in the network settings in the control panel under the wireless connection settings you could try turn it on that way. if its a case that the switch its self is not responding to the new software.you could try running hardware diagnostics on that specific area. ie the wireless network card. dont no if thats much help but its all i got for now.

I setup my daughter's laptop so she connects to the school's network using a wired connection. The laptop wireless adapter and her printer are configured to get an IP from a D-Link WBR-2310 router. I had this all working yesterday morning.

When my daughter returned to school and hooked everything up in her dorm, the wireless adapter in her laptop no longer works, it is disabled. If she enables it, it becomes disabled again.

So I am trying to figure out how that happens. She does not log on to a domain or anything, just plugs in the laptop and pulls an IP address. Can a DHCP server remotely turn off a wireles adapter?

A few days ago the wireless adapter on my computer (Sony VAIO laptop) suddenly stopped working. Troubleshooter says wireless capability is turned off even though when I check, the adapter is enabled and is "working properly." There is not a physical switch on the computer and no other way I know of to turn it on.
I cannot think of Anything that had happened immediately before this. I did try a system restore to before I had the problem, to no avail. I did also check a few places in the registry as suggested by a google search. I'm not positive exactly what I should be looking for but didn't see anything I thought looked unusual.
Also, don't know if it's related, but every time I restart, the BIOS opens (insydeh2o setup utility) and I have to exit out of it. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello. I just recently ran in to an extremely frustrating problem with my laptop. I have an asus laptop, it's one of the gaming models. Just recently, it has shown that wireless connectivity is turned off whenever i boot up my computer. The thing is, though, that the manual switch to enable wireless connectivity is switched on. Whenever i attempt to switch it off, then back on, the graphic that pops up on your screen showing that wireless connectivity is disabled pops up even when i switch it on. It does the same exact thing when i use fn + f2, only the graphic saying that it's disabled pops up every time i press it, and wireless connectivity stays disabled no matter what. I have absolutely no idea what to do, this literally just happened out of no where when i booted up my computer yesterday.

Answer:Wireless Connectivity Will NOT Turn on

Hi,

You could try updating drivers for the adapter and for Hotkey/manual switch?

Also couldn't you just do a system restore from the day before or as close to as possible as it only happened yesterday?

Have just installed 2 new 512MB memory cards to bring L10 up to maximum 1GB memory. Had basic 256MB in before and was getting really slow.
However, now can't access the internet wirelessly - worked fine before albeit slowly!

I keep getting the 'wireless communication switch is off' message, despite pressing the silver button on the front and trying Fn+F8. Seems to come on for a second then goes off again. I've never had to do this before.
Everything else seems to be fine. Running XP OS.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

Answer:Satellite Pro L10 - Can't wireless turn on

Hi

To be honest I doubt that this has something to do with the RAM upgrade. Normally this doesn?t affect the wireless function of your notebook.

Anyway, firstly I would try to reinstall the WLAN driver. You can get the latest version on the Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Make also sure that BIOS version is the latest one.

When I right click over the connectin icon in the task bar on the lower right, I see selections for the wireless adapter as on or off. Its off. I check mark it for on, but nothing happens. The computer has a manual switch and I turn this off and on as well. Still nothing. The only thing that seems to work is when I turn the comptur off and back on with the wireless switch off. After start, I move the switch to on and it comes on. Worked the last two times anyway. Anyone know how I can fix this?

Guys - I have an older v.2 Linksys WRT54G Wireless b/g router and would like to simply turn this guy into a AP only since I have a router / firewall running IPCop. Is this a simple task or is there a special procedure? I am not sure I can simply plug this into the LAN to set it up for AP mode and not mess anything up as right now I am sure it is set to be a router as well. So what happens when two machines with the 192.168.1.1 IP get on the LAN is beyond me - I would assume there would be a collision of some sorts but if anyone has any info, please let me know.

Thanks!

Answer:Turn My Wireless Router To An AP Only?

You would set "use as access point" and then give it a static IP on your network.

OK so I want to turn my main pc into a wireless router. I have an ethernet card, where my internet comes in. And a wireless card which is unused at the moment. I need a way to get the internet to go out through the wireless card so that I can access the internet with my ps3 and macbook.

Please dont just tell me to do the internet sharing thing, and by that i mean to this point. Right click on the lan connection, check share internet. Thats all i get most of the time when asking this question. Tha or to bridge the two which does allow me to connect to my pc via windows partition on my macbook, but I cannot access the iternet. Is there any program that will do this more easily. I did get this to work perfectly with my macbook. I had the internet go in there and then out throught the airport card and it worked fine, but windows is just such a b*tch with this stuff. Please any help will be apprediated.

p.s. I do not wish to buy another wireless router, since i seem to have the equipment to do it without one, I will try everything in my power not to have to buy another one.

Answer:Turn my pc into a wireless router???

Internet connection sharing is the obvious solution. Perhaps you have Windows Firewall or another firewall that is obstructing the communication.

Hello! I have read many questions and answer about this problem but none of them helped me. I tried the fn key with every f? key i have in my keybord but nothing happened. I unchecked the option the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save energy", I enabled the wireless adapter via BIOS and still I don't have access to the internet. I searched every side of the laptop and I don't have a button to turn it on. Any other advice would be helpfull. Thank you in advance!

I cannot turn on my wireless radio. My kids were using the laptop within arms reach playing Wizard 101 when it lost connection. It did not appear to be a hardware issue since the laptop was just sitting on the table at the time, but I am not ruling it out. I uninstalled the hardware and reinstalled with no luck. I ran a Hijack This log as follows:EDIT: HJT log removed, no indication of malware, HJT logs not to be used for system troublehooting of system issues, logs not permitted in Vista forum ~ Hamluis. Please let me know what I need to do to isolate the problem. When I hardwire into the router, I have no problems. Also other wireless devices do not have problems connecting. I try to turn on the wireless radio and it never seems to turn on. I changed some settings to not allow the radio to be turned off, but that did not help either. Please let me know what I need to do. Thank youEdit: Sorry the computer is a Lenovo laptop with Vista Home Premium SP2. Pentium dual-core T4200 @2GHz, 3GB RAM. I do not appear to be having any other problems. It could be hardware, but I am having a hard time figuring it out.

Dear Duircein,Do you know how to manage your startups... that PC must run like a slug... I suggest Mike Lin's Startup monitor or better... www.Winpatrol.com . WHen you got it under control Taskmgr processes should be under 40 for VIsta after boot for decent performance. ( < 30 for XP and <50 for win7,, although half the above is possible. )THen toggle your WIFI Fn key ... Mine is Fn & F2Report Device Mgr Status for your Network Wireless adapter.

Answer:Wireless Radio Won't Turn On

I don't know if you have ThinkVantage Access Connection or not. If you have it, then try uninstalling. If it's still not working, just let us know. So we can find what might cause this problem.

I bought a USB ethernet adapter for faster speed and also to connect to routers using ethernet cable for router setup.  How can I turn the Spin3's wireless off without disabling bluetooth which I'm using for my bluetooth mouse. Going into airplane mode will not work for me since it turns off the bluetooth as well as the wireless.  I'm not using my laptop on an airplane.  I'm using it at home and to setup other people's routers. I know how to disable the wireless via Win10's Device Manager but that requires several steps.  Is there a quick way to turn the wireless only off on the Spin3 ?

The OS seems to have turned off my wireless card when powerran low. It appears that the card is working properly according to the networking control panel item. How do I turn connectivity back on?

Answer:Turn on Wireless Connectivity

You wireless card is probably set to sleep on inactivity.

To reconnect, go to Start > Run, type cmd. Now type ipconfig /renew.

If that doesn't work, try ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew

right-click on the wireless connection, choose the power Management tab and uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Also uncheck the second box also.

The best answers are directly in the Help and Support area. Go to Start > Help and Support and type in laptop power.

how to turn on\off wireless\bluetooth?on my small sony viao with Windows 7, there was an internal switch in the lower right hand corner of the screen and if you click on it you have wi-fi and bluetooth both with an on/off switch. Since I was not using my wi-fi, I slid the wi-fi into off position and later that day, I wanted to use wi-fi and the icon that was in the lower left hand corner of the screen was gone and for the past two days I have been trying to find it! every troubleshoot attempt tells me to turn on wireless capability but has never shown me "how to" turn on the wireless capability.there is a physical switch to turn on and off wireless below the wireless light but it does not work in any way now. Someone please help.

Answer:how to turn on\off wireless\bluetooth

Check Device Manager too see if it's a driver problem (you'll see an error symbol in the "Network Adapters" category if it's a driver problem). If it shows an error, re-install the wireless driver. You can download it from the Sony Vaio support website. This is the US website: http://esupport.sony.com/perl/selec...Or for European countries, go here: http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computi...

This laptop is running Windows Vista Home Premium. I've just installed a slew of updates as the computer was dormant for about 18 months.

The function key shortcut to turn the wireless on "Fn + F10" will not work. I have tried going into device manager and enabling/disabling but that will not work.

Running Intel's Manual Wifi Diagnostics test, it fails on the 'radio test' phase.

I've googled this problem already and tried some fixes but nothing has worked yet.
