Ultranav/Trackpoint problems

Question: Ultranav/Trackpoint problems

Hi, I'm having problems with my ultranav trackpoint on my Thinkpad R61. Although I have disabled Press-to-select function (which I find annoying) my trackpoint continue to select items I am pointing to (even though I am not clicking on them). Did you have similar problems and do you know how to solve this? I will appreciate any kind of help Tomasz

Preferred Solution: Ultranav/Trackpoint problems

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an IBM T40 laptop. I have been having problems with the mouse properties. I opened up the advanced properties for the mouse and selected the UltraNav tab. I keep selecting the "Standard Scroll" option but it never stays. It keeps doing the smooth scrolling. For some reason, after my laptop has been on for a while, I can get the standard scroll option to stay. But then after a while longer it reverts back by itself. It usually happens when something disrupts my wireless internet connection. I have downloaded all the latest drivers that I could find from the IBM website. What is messing this up?

The center button (scrolling) on the track point no longer works. The Ultranav utility worked for a day or so (fn f8) but now tells me "ultranav driver not installed."  I reinstalled the driver, and still get the same message. This is frustrating....can anyone help?

Hi, Problem occurs after waking from sleep or standby or hibernate, and alternatively  or right click on ultranav right button (it opens context menu). Then my left click is disabled. The cursor is either frozen or not. For the freeze there seems to be no rule, but the left click is always disabled. I have formatted the windows, installed new drivers and utility programs and also new bios. The same problem occurs every time.I have Windows 7 x64 I have seen many posts for issues with TP trackpoints and trackpads, but no resolution as of yet. If I am wrong, please point me in the right direction.

Answer:T420 Trackpad / UltraNav / Trackpoint problem after sleep or ultranav right click

Does this happen with the TrackPoint keys or the touchpad keys or both? Does it happen with the UltraNav driver uninstalled?

For some reason randomly when I turn on my computer after it gets done loading Windows XP (gets to the log in menu) my T60 ThinkPad Laptop's mouse will no longer work.  After I restart it then it seems to work fine.  I can't find any specific drivers for it to download to try and resolve this issue either.  Any ideas? Also, this laptop was used by someone before me and they formatted the harddrive so I lost my ThinkVantage restore stuff so I can't restore the laptop to its factory settings.  Is there a place I can download that or at least set it up by hand? I am hoping if I have that option it will fix the mouse issue as well.  Thanks!

Answer:T60 UltraNav and TrackPoint not working after boot up

Hello, please go to Lenovo support page. And download MS NET 2.0 and System Updater. First I would suggest to update only your ultranav driver, for trackpoint and touchpad. But donīt update all at once and be aware, also bios updates, which may be not necessary are offered there. If you are in warranty till now, try to call Lenovo hotline and they might send you the R&R discs for free.Otherwise you have to pay.  Message Edited by Agotthelf on 02-12-2008 08:16 AM

I just got a new T61p running Vista business and was configuring the look & feel of it related to the trackpoint.  I completed all of the normal 'first time setup' chores; registration, software & driver updates, user definition and savepoint. I went to the Control Panel,  Hardware & Sound, Mouse, Mouse Properties/UltraNav panel.  Once there, I played around with the TrackPoint by: clicking the TrackPoint Settings buttonselecting the Magnifying Glass optionclicking the Choose Scrolling or Magnifying Glass Function Settings buttonselecting the Large Size Magnifying Glass optionclicking the Ok buttonclicking the Apply button on TrackPoint Propertiesclicking the Ok button on TrackPoint Propertiesselecting the Use advanced features only - the Magnifying Glass feature didn't seem to work when the 'pointing device' option was enabledclicking the Apply button on UltraNav I was then able to use the TrackPoint as a roving Magnifying Glass, which was a 'neat' feature that quickly became unusable.  (Normal typing lead to frequent brushes of the TrackPoint which caused the Magnifying Glass to pop up when & where I didn't want it, etc.) I tried to undo the feature by resetting it to a Scrolling only with 'Use as pointing device with advanced features' setting - clicking Apply/Ok as needed - but to no avail.  The TrackPoint didn't resume it's 'pointing device' functionality. I then reset it to M... Hi- I have a brand new refurbished SL 500 on which I cannot install the UltraNav or TrackPoint drivers.  I am forced to use a USB mouse.  Attempting to install the drivers from the lenovo support site result in an unhelpful "Installation Failed" error.  This laptop is running Vista Business 32.

Got a strange one on my X201T.  For some reason I can't fathom, my laptop's Trackpoint, Touchpad and all their associated buttons do not work when I log into my laptop - they did before but in the last few days, they've stopped.  My external USB still works fine when connected. However, if, for example, I do 'ctrl-alt-del' and lock the laptop, they start working again until the moment I'm logged back in.  Also, If I log in on a Guest account, they all work fine!  This suggests it's not the hardware, I think. I've looked at the Control Panel / Mouse dialogue and the options under the UltraNav tab are all greyed out - but they are not on the Guest account.  Somehow, my user account on the laptop is not allowing me to use the Trackpoint, etc. My external USB mouse works fine in all accounts, btw. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.  I've updated drivers through Lenovo update (though none seemed related to this problem). Any thoughts how I can fix this?

I'm using the ultranav middle button to scroll (I live for this feature which is why I've been buying thinkpads since time immemorial) However, on the t460, scolling with the middle button/nubbin is painfully slow in Word 2007, and Adobe Acrobat/Reader is a nightmare. In Word its just slow and you have to use a lot of pressure on the nubbin (there appears to be no setting to change this). In Acrobat, it's agonizingly slow (in both Reader and Pro) and will "stick" on if you try to go to fast and just scrolling for multiple seconds after you release the button.  Stragely, the trackpad scrolling works fine in Word, though it is still bad in Acrobat.  In addition, the middle button scrolling will frequently slip and stop scrolling, sending the pointer to the bottom of the page.  Nubbin/middle button scrolling works (oddly) extremely well in Microsoft Edge... Please help! Middle button scrollig with the nubbin is the best feature on these machines.  Using: T460 Windows 10 64-bit with the latest drivers.

Hi, I just purchased a SL500 from Lenovo. The UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad) is not working. I have installed the drivers via the Lenovo website but still not working. I have always done all the windows updates, and Thinkvantage system updates, but still no joy.  I also installed the UtraNav Utility (which does not even show up under Thinkvantge after installation). Fn+F8 brings up the Mouse properties box, but there is no tab for the UltraNav device etc. I want to try a possible resolution via this forum before contacting Lenovo support. Thanks for your assistance! ***lenovo SL500, Vista Business 32***

Answer:SL500 - UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad) not working

Installing drivers from lenovo website was kind of tricky for me, initially. All I used to do was to run the setup.exe file; until someone told me that the drivers gets extracted in another folder in C:\. The installation instructions are given on lenovo website, make certain you are not making the same mistake like me:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70341.html Else, I fancy the keyboard might have gone bad, contact lenovo in that case. Hope it helps.

Trackpoint + dragging is still not working with the Ultranav middle button as of 16.2.19.2 driver. It's an extremely important function for any 3D graphics program. With the Lenovo driver it's not possible to use the middle button + trackpoint to navigate in these programs! Lenovo, please fix this bug. It's working perfectly if I install the latest Synaptics driver. It's only happening with Lenovo's driver. Using Synaptics driver is not an option, because it has no guard against keyboard typing + touchpad accidental clicking. Test:Testing is very easy.1. Set your middle button behaviour to "None".2. Above an empty area of your desktop, click the middle button + try to move the mouse pointer with your trackpoint. The pointer isn't moving! It's the same thing what happens in any 3D graphics program! You cannot navigate your camera, unless you use an external mouse! Fix:Please fix it. Just don't stop the trackpoint pointer when someone clicks the middle button in "None" settings. System: Using a W520 for the reference.

Answer:Trackpoint + middle button dragging still not working in Ultranav 16.2.19.2 driver

I am not a professional CAD user, but I too want to be able to use the middle button as if it were a normal mouse. There is a lot of software that utilize the middle mouse button and can't handle the silly scroll feature. Did you find a work around? You mentioned something about Synaptics.

After some recent UltraNav driver updates I have lost cursor and use of the trackpad and trackpoint. The yellow triangle shows up in device manager as the drivers cannot identify the hardware. I've tried uninstall/reinstall and rolling back to older drivers to no avail. This happened originally after an update on 1/26. I had to uninstall drivers, cleaned registrty keys, ran windows update, ran TVSU to reinstall drivers and that worked for a week. Then another update pushed on 2/9 knocked out the Trackpad again.  The device in enabled in both the control panel and BIOS. Disable/Reboot/Enable did not work. Rollback of drivers to 2 or 3 previous versions did not work. Thankfully I have the touch screen or my 15 month old T440 would be entirely useless. Anyone have similar issues and/or solution??

Hi there, I have a weird problem. First, I am running Windows 7 beta (build 7100) on my T60 (type 2007), so that could be the reason, and I assume it's probably software related in any case. But anyway, in case some of you have experience with the problem, here goes. The other day the mouse buttons on my UltraNav, for no apparant reason, stopped functioning. The trackpoint is working fine as is the middle scroll-button and the touchpad. But I can't left or right-click. Both the buttons above and below the touchpad are gone. Pretty weird, as the upper mouse buttons are connected through the keyboard-connector-cable and the touchpad and the buttons below that are connected via a seperate cable. I've checked the settings in the UltraNav tab and they're ok, and I'm using the latest driver (9137), and have tried reinstalling it.No luck. Any ideas - besides reinstalling/downgrading Windows, which I'll probably do anyway if nothing else helps?

I grabbed the 5/2011 drivers for UltraNav from the Lenovo site and it appears that an option 'to disable the integrated pointing devices when an external pointing device is present' does not exist, or at the very least I can't easily find it.  Please please please please tell me I'm simply being dense and this behavior is very easy to enable. Seriously, the 5-year old Dell drivers I had with my old machine did that, and this is driving me BONKERS. Alternatively, if what I'm doing here is feature-requesting, I'd be like 50% there if I could Fn+F8 and have an option to kill both the touchpad and the trackpoint - alas, I can disable 1 or the other BUT NOT BOTH WITH THAT OPTION.  Can I really not disable both? Lenovo W520, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Answer:Option to disable UltraNav (touchpad + trackpoint) when external mouse is connected

I've never seen such a feature with the UltraNav drivers. You could just max out the PalmCheck and then set it to touchpad only.

Hi all, I have a problem with my Thinkpad Edge S430. After reinstalling Windows 7, System update and all drivers, my trackpoint doesn't work. Itīs disabled and there is no way of getting it to work. I have unistalled, cleaned the registry and reinstalled the driver from the official driver web page, from within system update,... no way.  The other problem is with the SD Reader. I use a 32Gb SD card for backup purposes and a week ago simply itīs like the reader does not exist anymore. The devide administrator does have all drivers installed, but the reader is not working (of course, I have checked that the card is working and with all data in other PC). I have also unistalled and installed the driver, but again no way. Any help is really welcome. Thanks in advance,

Answer:Ultranav trackpoint not working, SD reader vanished. Thinkpad EDGE S430

Hi, petodow

For the TrackPoint issue, I would try installing the Synaptics driver from here. Synaptics is the company that makes UltraNav, so there shouldn't be any loss of functionality.

As for the SD card reader, there is a BIOS update that was released five days ago that may help. The update can be found here.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hi,While docked yesterday, I downloaded the latest ThinkVantage Updates  using the System Update Utility for my T61 2009-AD1.  After applying the updates, the system rebooted and my TP stick was very SLOW as I keep it on the fastest settings to reduce hand stress.   When I went into the control panel --> mouse, it tells me: "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver"   If you have installed another PS/2 Pointing Device Driver, please uninstall the Synaptics driver by clicking on the Yes button.  You then need to reinstall your pointing device driver for the external device again.  Do you want to uninstall the Synaptics Driver Now? I had an external USB TrackPoint Keyboard connected to the dock and have never had any problems from the UltraNav or the Updates.   Generally, there were two UltraNav tabs in the Mouse Panel, one for the onboard TP and one for the Ultranav USB Keyboard.. Now there's only one "Synaptics" tab which is all hozed up.  I cannot change the sensitivity of the mouse etc.. I've tried to uninstall the Synaptics Drive via Add/Remove Programs - it will not uninstall, it just hangs the Thinkpad to 100% CPU and sits there.  I've tried rolling back the driver in device manager, it refuses to rollback. I've tried reinstalling the older Ultranav driver and it complains that a newer driver is installed, use add/remove programs to remove the newer dri... Hi, Recently I had to reformat my T61p and reinstall everything from scratch. Before the format, UltraNav worked without any problems even when I was using my wireless BT mouse (Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000) together with UltraNav + latest version of the Microsoft IntelliPoint software. I could switch from the wireless mouse to UltraNav seemlessly. After formatting, I've installed all the latest drivers for Windows 7 64-bit from the Lenovo web site, and after that, UltraNav started to work erraticaly. Basically, what happens is that although the mouse pointer moves around when I use either the TouchPad or TrackPoint, the click action doesn't always work (I have to press several times for it to actually click) and most of the times, instead of just clicking, it actually sticks to the selected item and if I move it, it performs a dragging actions, as if I was pressing and dragging the mouse pointer. Sometimes, if I go to the ultranav properties and reselect the click and right click actions in the UltraNav settings, it starts working properly, but after some use, it goes back to the erratic behaviour. The only way I can use the mouse properly is by using my external mouse. I've tried rolling back to the previous version of the ultranav drivers (18), but still have the same behaviour. It works fine for some time, and after some use, it goes back to misbehaving. Has anyone seen this before and is there any fix at al... Read more

I'm at a loss as to where the options are to tweak the UltraNav pointer and touchpad on my Win7, 64-bit W530. I did a fresh Win7 install on it and have downloaded all the drivers (plus run the System Update utility), and while the UltraNav Driver is properly installed and working, I don't see any place to download the UltraNav UTILITY.  This is my fifth or sixth ThinkPad, and one of my favorite things is the UltraNav pointing stick combined with the touchpad. I like to change the effort required on the pointing stick, and then use the touchpad for slow motion and constrained motion controls. These settings have always been accessible under a tab on the Mouse control panel after installing the UltraNav Utility. I thought maybe the UltraNav Driver included the utility, but I can't find any way to access the old controls I'm so accustomed to having over the pointing devices.  Any ideas what I may be missing? My service ticket with Lenovo has been open for two weeks now with no response, so I thought I'd try my luck here. Thank you!!

Answer:W530 UltraNav Driver installed -- where is the UltraNav Utility?

The driver alone should be providing the UltraNav tab in Mouse properties. Give it an uninstall/reinstall.As far as I can tell, UltraNav Utility is the popup menu for enabling/disabling TrackPoint/touchpad upon Fn+F8 on older models.

I have successfully downloaded and installed the latest UltraNav driver and utility for Windows 7 on a T61 ThinkPad.  However, the UltraNav tab is not visible under Control Panel, Mouse Properties. Under Mouse properties and Device Manager it shows a PS/2 mouse, which I do not have connected.  Could this be causing a problem with the utility? The issue I'm trying to resolve is the cursor jumps around constantly and it's very Frustrating.  I've spent hours reseaching the problem and have determined the solution is to adjust the sensitivity of the TouchPad, if only I could get to the utility.

I'm a  user of a Lenovo T440s for about a one year. I configure my click pad and track point so that I use both. Since the day I bought this laptop the UltraNav drivers have been giving problems. Each update seems to fix issues sometimes.. but they show up again and again. This is getting ridculous. I am really unhappy with this product that has basic user input issues such as the mouse/trackpoint/touchpad. I'm using the latest drivers currently with windows 8.1 1. The scroll wouldn't work using tracking point and middle mouse button resulting in restart to get it back. 2. Scroll suddenly stops working using two fingers on touch pad again restart.3. (This is new) Some Ctrl+clicks to open the links in new tabs in the browser results in a situation like the ctrl button is pressed constantly.. so scrolling using the two fingers or trackpad+middle button results in zooming the web page.Again I have to restart the computer to get it back to normal. So is this good user experience? Am I supporsed to restart the computer everytime when the mouse drivers mess up? Is there a way to "reset" all this so it's back to normall again without restarting?I hope someone who works for lenovo answers this. I'm willing to give some sort of feedback to fix the issues. But I don't know where to post such problems. I have  seen that a lot of people complaining about UltraNav problems in these forums but haven't seen a issue such as mine. Answer:"UltraNav Utility" vs "UltraNav Driver" for T400

Hello, it could be that "the UltraNav utility enables the Fn-F8 shortcut when used in conjunction with the ThinkPad Hot Key Utility". Or it may provide "more fluid and comfortable crusor [sic] movement" (Googelberged from notebookreview forum).Another possibility could be, that it enables more detailed configuration of the touch pad. Greetings Tobias

So, I had ultranav installed on my computer but then all of a sudden, it stopped working and scrolling went back to the normal type. When I went to the mouse settings, it said my synaptics pointer driver couldn't be found. I continued and the ultranav thing was there so I clicked it and went to the trackpoint settings and under "Choose Scrolling or Magnifying Glass"s, nothing was selected. I selected "scrolling standard", but when I tried out the scrolling thing on a webpage, the scrolling was like a regular mouse, not like the ultranav scrolling. I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it and it worked for a while, but then I restarted my computer and it did the same thing. It says that ultranav is installed but it doesn't work fully. I have to reinstall ultranav every time if I want the ultranav scrolling. I don't get it. Im usually good with computers but this one has stumped me. Help?

Answer:T420 UltraNav problems

UltraNav settings reset every time there is a driver update. My suggestion is to uninstall your current driver. Restart. Then update to latest driver through Lenovo Update, and restart again. Then configure it and see if the changes stick. If you read the release notes for UltraNav updates, many of them aren't for security purposes, so if it functions fine under the current drivers you can generally get by without updating it and not have your settings reset.

My sister just got the Edge 14 model from Best Buy, but the left mouse button below the touchpad makes intermittent contact and has to be pressed much more firmly than the right button.  It is nearly unusable.  Is this a simple fix?  We're trying to decide whether to bring it in for warranty service or just to exchange it at Best Buy.

Answer:ultranav button problems

Weber,

While I'm sure the issue is long resolved, if the button seems to have a mechanical problem it will most likely require service to fix.  On some models, the touchpad and buttons can be replaced by the customer along with the palmrest.

Service can advise.  You can call support, or visit a local business partner or point of purchase - Best Buy in this case.

Best regards,

I keep my Touch Pad disabled. Suddenly it is enabled and will not disable. I have tried this with both the Fn key and by going into the mouse properties. In mouse properties when I uncheck Enable Touchpad and click Apply it stays unchecked but the Touchpad is still enabled. I downloaded the UltraNav driver and reinstalled and still have the problem. Then I noticed the Scrolling settings I had set are changed and I can't change them back. Also, when I press the volume control buttons the volume does increase and decrease but the display does not show the volume level as it has always done. The mute button mutes the volume but it will not unmute. I must press the volume up button to unmute. What is going on?

You can download the driver from this site: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-68000.html Reinstalling that drivers should take care of the buttons for you. Disabling the touchpad:You were trying to disable it just from the mouse properties. The best way to disable to touchpad is from the BIOS level:Follow this path to disable from BIOS: F1 at boot to enter BIOS -> Config -> Keyboard/Mouse -> Touchpad -> Disabled -> F10 to save and exit Hopefully this will get you started. Cheers,Mark

I'm really stumped as to what is happening. Basically, sometimes the keyboard/ultranav stop working when the computer turns on. I can usually turn it off for 30+ minutes turn it on and it will work again. I've updated to the newest drivers via system update, but still end up with this issue. any ideas?

Answer:X300 UltraNav/keyboard problems

it's something in windows... if I log-in immediately after the screen pops up, it works flawlessly. If I wait even 10 seconds, nothing works.

FYI for anyone having mouse issues on a Thinkpad A few days ago I did Thinkpad updates to my W520.  My wireless mouse (logitech mx anywhere) was working oddly after that - freezing, jumping about, etc.  So I tried 2 other wireless including a Lenovo mouse and had the same issue. My conclusion is that is is a soveware/driver conflict issue.  So I started uninstalling and reinstalling older drivers.  I am pretty certain that the UltraNav is the issue - I installed the older driver for the UltraNav Utility and all fixed.

Answer:W520 and UltraNav and wireless mouse problems

Never mind my previous post.  I am wrong about the UltraNav driver being the issue. The issue is an odd one but now verified. I have a drive in an ineo caddy that is connected to the USB 3 port.  When the usb drive is connected the wireless mouse is erattic.  When not connected the wireless mouse works great.  Wired mouse is not effected. Could be usb drivers - I will delete and reload.  Already have the latest bios.

Hello,

I have multiple driver problems with my newly purchased L430.

1) After hibernate the UltraNav driver randomly stops working. This means that the settings are grayed out and my old settings aren't applied. Sometimes the mouse pad and track ball also stop working after hibernate.

2) The hardware mute button and hibernate don't like each other as well. After resuming from hibernate with the mute button on the sound doesn't work anymore. Rebooting only helps if you have disabled the mute before rebooting.

3) The intel usb 3.0 driver can't be installed unless you want a lot of bluescreens.

I do have the newest drivers and BIOS (2.54).

Answer:L430 multiple driver problems (ultranav and others)

Hi MrSpider, welcome to the forum!

Although you could do some things yourself to troubleshoot, if you just bought your laptop and you have the factory preinstalled operating system and applications, it might be better if you contacted a Lenovo Repair center.
Here is a list of things to check and a list of contacts depending on your country.

I would run Lenovo System Update first and install all proposed updates, also install all Windows Updates before contacting Lenovo. But I would not delay that call for long if the problems persisted.

Please post back here with the results, it might help other people as well!

Hello, I have just reveived my T420 and installed all updates - first MS Winows 7, then Lenovo. The effect is that...OSD is not working (I did not find any setting that would turn it on/off)Ultranav middle button works like any mouse middle button - previously I used it for scroling, now it is just a normal mouse buttonI cannot use mouse settings in windows. When I try to enter them, windows asks me to unsintall Synaptic driver for some reason. Then mouse setting window appears, but it is frozen.Anybody had simillar problems?

Answer:T420 - Installed updates -> problems with OSD and UltraNav

The OSD-problem appears very often the last days after running System Update.

Install the hotkey-features manually
If Ultranav still does problems then remove it from Control panel - Programs and functions and install it again manually.

I just upgraded my T410 BIOS to 1.45; I don't recall the exact previous version number but I believe it was in the 1.30's. Since I've done this, two things have happened: the trackpad no longer works, and the Trackpoint is now very laggy/slow/jumpy; it looks like it only updates about twice a second. Here's a video of what it's doing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzHL5ZI2TcM I'm using Windows 10 here in this video. The CPU load shown in Task Manager is very low, indicating it's not the computer itself lagging. Secondly if I boot the Windows 10 install CD, or an Ubuntu LiveCD, the same problem is happening, indicating that it's an issue with the laptop/BIOS itself, not with Windows. So far I've tried: - removing the battery/unplugging the laptop- disabling the trackpad/trackpoint in the BIOS, booting Windows, re-enabling it... I found this while searching on here for the same problem. Though it's a different laptop/BIOS, maybe it's the same bug? https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/UltraNav-Trackpad-stops-working-after-ne... Anyway the onboard Ultranav is now pretty much unusable on this laptop and I'm now stuck using an external mouse, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Hi,I have a 4 year old IBM thinkpad R51 2888 and recently I have been experiencing problems with the ultranav pad.On startup the cursor is at the bottom of the screen and when I pull it up, to say the middle of the screen, it will quickly flicker in two or three flashes back down to the bottom of the screen (more recently it has started to go towards the left of the screen, but not as frequently as goes to the bottom). The problem seem to come and go at random, it can work fine for a while then starts playing up again. It happens both with or without an external usb mouse connected. I have update the drivers recently to try and remedy it but no joy. Would this point to hardware problems? (considering the age). Any info on this would be gratefully recieved. Thanks alot for any replys :-)

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

Hi All, I think I have encountered with a few flaws that could be related with BIOS 1.28 and/or UltraNav 15.3.39.1 The symptoms are mainly related to sleep mode, as follows: 1) Sometimes after I press Fn+F4 the screen will go off and seems the machine is preparing to sleep, but it never enters sleep.2) Sometimes after sleep, the TrackPoint and TouchPad will not work. Pressing Fn+F8 will show message "UltraNav driver not installed".3) Sometimes, only after a sleep and wakeup, the wireless (Intel 6205 with driver 14.3.0.6) will lose response and halt for a while. After a while the wireless will be working again, may require a disable/enable cycle or may not. All these happened after I upgrade to 1.28 BIOS. With 1.26 everything works perfectly. And the symptom 1 happens only after I installed the new UltraNav driver. So I think they may related to BIOS or the UltraNav driver. BTW, there is a disturbing problem with the UltraNav driver, long not resolved. If I am using the middle button to scroll the content of a window, and the window freeze during scrolling, the mouse will get stuck. Only after the window unfreeze itself of force kill the window will bring back mouse. This is a rare case but truly disturbing since I will not be able to handle the freezed window with mouse. Anybody had the same experience?

Can you please try going back to BIOS 1.26, but keep the latest Ultranav driver, and let me know if you still have the same problems?

I recently got a Thinkpad T420.  One of my favorite features is the nub, but for the past few days the nub has been impossible to use.  It will click things randomly and rapidly and also freezes and shakes the mouse.  Once I deactivate trackpoint it works fine, but it's one of my favorite features. I just bought the computer two weeks ago so I can't imagine the keyboard breaking already. Is it a software problem or something?

Hi, I wonder whether there is a way to enable press-to-click for the trackpoint on the new x1? In the respective settings there is no such options and I searched everywhere, somebody found it? Next question: In order to avoid the annoying noise of the clickpad everytime you press it, I would like to use the tap function of the touchpad while using the trackpoint to move the cursor. Unfortunately, tapping on the pad seems to be disabled during use of trackpoint - any smart hack to get this workig? Thanks to all,J

I hope someone can help.  My Trackpoint has a mind of its own.  It just creeps up to the left and pins itself in the upper corner of the screen.  I have downloaded the latest drivers, this has no effect.  I am running XP S/3.  The battery problem is simply this, I don't know if the battery is 'shot' or the charger is not working.  Can anyone tell me how I can check either part before I have to buy something I don't need?I have been fooling around with this problem almost a month with no success.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:TrackPoint and Battery Problems

I had the exact same problem for months.  I finally gave up and uninstalled the trackpoint completely and started using the USB mouse that works with my tablet.  That part works great but if you can't use a mouse that plugs into the back of the computer or anything else like a keyboard that plugs into that spot.  Forgive me for not knowing the technical term for that spot. Just a note of caution - a month or two after I uninstalled the trackpoint, I started getting an error message 8611 (please see my post right below yours) and this may be related.  I'm waiting to find out. Good luck, I know it drove me completely crazy.  In the meantime, try using another mouse, preferable a USB mouse since that's the only one that seems to respond. debbie

Hello all,I just got my Thinkpad T420 two weeks ago. Solid laptop overall, but recently I have some problems with my touchpad and trackpoint. There is a big movemental gap of the cursor when using trackpoint, and the touchpad is unusable. This happened once last week but then it disappeared after I disabled and then re-enabled trackpoint/touchpad, changing sensivity... Yesterday it happened again and this time it wont disappear after applying the same method. I tried updating the drivers, as well as reset BIOS (boot to BIOS -> F9 -> save) but none helped. I'm dualbooting windows 7 & arch linux, and the problem is present on both of the operating systems. This is really frustrating. Can someone please give me some suggestions what I could do to get rid of this annoying bug. Thanks very much.

Hi, I'm setting up my new thinkpad t440s and I cannot get my trackpoint to work.  It does not respond and in my mouse properties/thinkpad section, the Touchpad is clearly enabled, but the Trackpoint options are all greyed out.  In the pointing options dropdown, I can only see the option to 'Use TouchPad only.'  I strongly prefer the Trackpoint to the Touchpad and would prefer it if possible. I currently have Synaptics pointing device driver version 18.0.7.109, the most recent version.  I've tried rolling back to previous versions and this issue still persists.  I also have gone into BIOS and disabled and re-enabled the Trackpoint in boot settings. Unfortunately, since this is a work machine, I do NOT have the capability to remove the keyboard or replace parts.  Any ideas at all would be greatly appreciated.

Just upgraded from a T43P to a W500 and instantly I can notice how messed up the trackpoint mouse is.It just jumps randomly on its own!! Also...using the left click button does not actually click the link but thepointer actually jumps and settles down on a different part of the screen after clicking. Also every now and then, the trackpoint will stop moving the pointer(freeze) and it recovers after 4-5 seconds. This is really frustrating!! Anyone else seen this before?  DD

Answer:W500 trackpoint problems

Hello Desidon: I have always found the trackpoint device (the pointing stick) to be one of the most reliable things on ThinkPads.  I upgraded from a T42P to a W500, and did not notice any difference in trackpoint function - the stick on the W500 works as well as the stick on the T42P did. The operating system itself (Vista or XP) offers some 'options' that, if enabled, might be what is causing the unexpected behaviour you are experiencing.  If you go to the mouse control panel and have a look around in there, you will find that there is an option that causes the pointer to automatically jump to the default acceptance button in dialog boxes whenever dialog boxes appear.  I have turned that option off, I find that it is distracting. By default, both the touchpad and the trackpoint stick are enabled.  I have disabled the touchpad on my W500 because I find that I often inadvertently activated the touchpad when I am typing or otherwise operating the computer.  You can easily turn the touchpad off (while leaving the trackpoint on), the control for that is in the Mouse control panel under the "UltraNav" tab.  My guess is that if you turn off the above two options, 99% of your problems will disappear. There have been issues reported with the cursor on the screen occasionally freezing up.  That is being discussed in a different discussion (Temporary but DAILY mouse / system freezing (W500 w/ Vista Business 32), and we have no... I just got my new ThinkPad T440s, and I'm having some difficulties getting the Trackpoint to work properly. Whenever I power up the system, the Trackpoint is responsive for a minute or so and then completely stops working, while the touchpad works just fine. I have tried re-installing/ updating the Ultranav driver, but no luck. I have also tried a complete factory restore, and the problem remains.  I noticed that when I don't have the Ultranav driver installed, the trackpoint works a little while longer but then gets a bit crazy. By that I mean moving the cursor using either touchpad or trackpoint somehow ends up opening shortcuts, moving icons or the taskbar, etc. It's hard to explain, but it's like the cursor moves all over the screen rapidly "left-clicking" and "right-clicking" all over the place.  It's strange that when I'm going through the Windows installation prompts, the trackpoint seemed to work just fine. This and the fact that it works for a minute upon start-up make me think it's a software issue.  Does anyone have any suggestions that I could try? I haven't tried doing anything in the BIOS, if there's something that could be done. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:T440s Trackpoint problems

Hi zorero, You can check in the bios if the trackpoint is enabled but if it works sometimes it might be anyway. you should try to remove the keyboard, unplug the trackpad and replug it.It can be just just a connection problem where the plug is not properly attached to the motherboard. There is the link to the Hardware Maintenance Manual where you can find how to remove the keyboard: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/t440s_hmm_en_sp40a25360_01.pdf Hope that helps, Vince.

Hi, I recently disassembled my Thinkpad W520 to clean out the fan and check a few things on the motherboard and when I put it back together both the trackpoint and touchpads have stopped working.  The trackpoint is attached to the motherboard at the same connector as the keyboard which works fine and I was very careful with static, dust, etc when I dissambled everything so I don't really see how anything could have gotten damaged.  First time I turned it back on the trackpoint worked fine but I had forgotten to plug the CMOS battery back in and when I went back and did that it stopped working.  Not sure about the touchpad, I dont use it much so didn't check it at first.  So far my attempts to uninstall/reinstall the drivers haven't helped.  The touchpad's no longer recognised in device manager but the mouse and keyboard are (and nothing's turned off in the BIOS either).  Is this just a sign of a bad motherboard or am I missing something easier to fix here?  Up until this point everything worked fine other than some USB issues which were do to a physical connetion problem.  It seems strange that the keyboard is ok but the mice dont work. Anyone have any  advice or suggestions?

Answer:trackpoint and touchpad problems - W520

Hello S_Zahara, Motherboards are the most sensitive and delicate part of the computer. It may be possible that when you removed the CMOS Battery, that may have changed some settings in the bios. Make sure the trackpad is enabled in your bios settings. Also, to make sure the CMOS battery is getting a full charge, leave your computer on for 24 hours. If the problem still persists, I would reseat the track pad to the motherboard. Hope that helps.

I've got a Lenovo L430-2465 with 64 bit Windows 7 Pro, an i5-3360M 2.8GHz CPU, 8 GB of RAM, and an Intel HD-4000 graphics card.At seemingly random times, my trackpoint as well as the row of mouse buttons above the trackpad will stop working.  It only happens when I'm playing a game. So far, it has happened in Team Fortress 2, Garry's Mod, and Half Life 2. The game never lags before or after the trackpoint quits.  I can still navigate around using the trackpad.  I can put my computer to sleep and immediately log back in, and the trackpoint and buttons will work perfectly. I don't even have to close my game. I've checked the control panel, and when it stops working, the trackpoint is still enabled, so it isn't an issue there. I can't find any evidence of this happening to anyone else, but any help you can give me will be very welcome.

I am having problems with Trackpoint and the TouchPad.  I had to disable Trackpoint because it was constantly clicking and opening anything it was pointed at.  The TouchPad pointer will not click and open anything, though, oddly enough, it will work if the computer is placed in standby mode for a lengthy period of time. I have reinstalled the original OS and other software several times now, including reinstalling the latest ultra nav driver and have all the other latest updates (BIOS 1.45).   I find it unlikely that this is a Hardware problem, but I have not been able to fix it with the software reinstalls.   Could it be the SSD? Is anyone familiar with these type of anomalies?   Any ideas for a fix? W510 4318CTOQ820 @1.73Ghzwin7 64bitfactory installed128gb SSD12gb ram

Computer: W540 Thinkpad I have searched around the forum and have not found anything about these issues I'm having. If they are there and I could not find them can you post a link to the solutions?  I am not sure if these issues are because of me upgrading to Windows 10, but it seems like that is when all of these issues started.  RESOLVED: After I posted this I took my keyboard off to see if everything was properly plugged in. I then noticed that the right ribbon cable was just sitting ther and wasn't plugged in. My blacklight works now, my trackpoint goes in thr right direction and I'm sure everything will be clickable now too. Hopefully everything is good now.  Problem 1: My Trackpoint is inverted, it drifts, and I can no longer use the "Scroll" Middle button on my trackpad. The trackpoint's Up and Down directions have been flipped ofr some reason. The left and right directions are fine however. Is there a reason this is? Because it is inverted I do not use it often, however it drifts a lot. So that makes it impossible for my trackpad to be used, because it think sI'm using my trackpoint. I tried disabling the track point in the settings but it sill works, and drifts. Also the middle button on the trackpad doesn't work, so I can't scroll using the trackpoint. I updated the UltraNav Driver to the newest one, multiple times, and nothing has changed. Is there an old driver that will fix my issues? Problem 2: I can not click on thin... Read more

I just got a T450s and have been having some issues with the synaptics drivers. First, the trackpad: when I scroll with two fingers, and I let go of one of the fingers, it keeps scrolling. Is there any way I can change this? Also, there's a gesture to go forwards and backwards, but it only works with three fingers and goes the opposite direction I'm used to. I tried installing older synaptics drivers, but they didn't seem very compatible with my trackpad; it only let me tap to click instead of actually clicking the trackpad down. These two things don't seem like bugs to me, but more of just lack of features that i'm wondering if there is a way to get them to work the way I'd like them to. The real problem I'm having is with the scorll button on the trackpoint. When I press it, the cursor changes to the scroll bar. When I start to scroll, though, it doesn't do it smoothly, whether I have it set to "standard" or "traditional". When it's doing that, the cursor flashes rapidly, too, as soon as I touch the trackpoint.

Sometimes, more often then helix is unplugged from power abapter, touhpad and trackpoint just stops warking at all. Keyboard working fine. Sometimes after about 30sseconds of tapping, mouse cursor moves a little, or touchpad "returns to live", but for about 3-5seconds, and then "dies" again. All drivers are updated from Lenovo site with their latest versions.OS doesnt matter, happends on windows 7 and windows 8 both.

Answer:Helix touchpad/trackpoint problems

Hi, mr_Jack

I would recommend uninstalling the current driver and see if it is the driver that is causing the issue. This can be accomplished by navigating to Control Panel ? Device Manager. While in Device Manager, open the tree labelled Mice and other pointing devices. Right-click on the device and select Properties. Next, navigate to the Driver tab and click on Uninstall... at the bottom. This will uninstall the driver, which will allow Windows to install a generic driver. If the generic driver functions without issue, then I would recommend either trying to reinstall the UltraNav driver or giving the Synaptics base driver installed, which can be found here.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Because by swiping two fingers on touchpad works great in same applications. Thank you.

Answer:W520 TrackPoint scroll problems

Are you on the latest UltraNav driver package? Middle-scrolling (Standard) works fine for me in Explorer.

Hello! Please help me, I've tried uninstalling and installing the UltraNav drive without success.Block trackpoint, and even use a regular mouse. My problem is as follows:The Trackpoint cursor is moving alone. After disabling the trackpoint, I could use the touchpad for a normal time. Then the cursor touchpad is also moving alone. And the same happens with the mouse.Furthermore, the lower right touchpad button does not work as secondary click. Works just like the left, a standard button click. And sometimes not even working. Please help me! This is bothering others. I have to hold the trackpoint cursor to stop moving alone and to use normal mouse. Windows 8.1 64, ThinckPad Edge E430, core i5.Thank you!

I am having persistent problems with the touchpad and trackpoint on my L530.  I prefer to use the trackpoint usually, and found that the touchpad was super-sensitive and caused the cursor to jump around during normal (touch) typing so I disabled the touchpad.  Next time the thinkpad resumed from sleep mode, the mouse was frozen.  Nothing would reactivate it.  I had to switch user, which temporarily fixed it, and then reactivate the touchpad.  If I try and change trackpad settings at any time other than directly after a reboot, the settings are greyed-out and I can't touch them. Right now, both trackpad and trackpoint are completely dead again, but I've plugged in a USB mouse and that seems to be working, so I've given up fiddling with it.  This will be a pain when I'm moving around with the laptop though! The OS is Windows 7.  Yesterday I went looking for the most recent driver, uninstalled the existing one (as per guidance) and installed the new driver.  No luck.   I've heard this is a common problem and apparently installing a generic driver works, but I'm not completely sure what to use.  Anyone know?  Oh, and I'm not sure if this is related, but quite often when I resume from sleep mode the keyboard is also dead.  However, if I switch user it comes back to life.  So annoying but not the end of the world.

Hello all - I have an X1 Carbon that is only a few weeks old and have had nothing but problems...please see the list below.  They all seem to be somehow interrelated but I simply can't find a solution.   When powering up, the computer freezes mid start up (at the windows icon screen) until various buttons on the keyboard are pushed.  I've waited in excess of 5 minutes to start up to test this out...it seems that 100% of the time the computer will not start on it's own by simply pressing the power button.Once the computer does get to the start screen, the mouse cursor slowly drifts on its own across the screen until several more buttons are pushed on the keyboard to stop it (hitting right click a few times usually works).  This occurs both using an external mouse at the office and the touchpad at home. While in the Google Chrome browser, the tabs close when clicking them instead of switching to that tab.  Restarting the computer resets this, but throughout the day it will keep occurring.  Hitting the middle click fixes this temporarily (but that leads to a different problem).  This occurs both using an external mouse at the office and the touchpad at home.  This also has about a 100% failure rate after the computer wakes up from a sleep mode as well as sporatically throughout the day.Due to problems with trackpoint, my default is to keep trackpoint disabled.  When trackpoint is enabled, the cursor sporadically will change to som... Hi I have a non-touch screen Z500 i7. I just checked and it is running Windows 8. It is brand new. Out of the box the pointer freezes sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after a few hours of usage. A restart using the keyboard resolves it. I have followed the instructions in another thread here to update the touchpad drivers (they are the elan ones). I would welcome advice and a solution. Thanks.

Answer:z500 trackpoint problems - pointer freezes randomly

In fact it transpires the update despite saying it has updated is not working (or perhaps it has and the driver has not been updated since 2012): Elan30/8/201211.4.8.1 Update driver is greyed out. I am running windows 8 64 bit.

Hi, I have been having some problems for a long time now and it is just getting on my nerves. I have a thinkpad L530  (model 2481-2SG) and in summary, the problems are: 1) Trackpoint and touchpad software seems to fail permanently after waking up from hibernation/sleep (tick boxes on the mouse configuration menu are also greyed out) and so, trackpoint cursor sensitivity is lost. 2) Sometimes trackpoint and touchpad do not work at all and if i get unlucky, keyboard may not work either, so I have to hard-reset. 3) I have 7 unknown devices in my device manager window and I have tried looking for their drivers for months without no avail (lenovo.com, lenovo update, searching on forums...)A snapshot of my screen: http://oi43.tinypic.com/dxo2hg.jpg I have tried to solve my problems updating all my drivers (both through lenovo.com and lenovo update), resetting all the configurations, default bios... Besides this sleeping problem, computer works just fine, smoothly and fast. I am just afraid of sleeping/hibernating my computer cause keyboard and trackpoint may not work after waking up... and I hate to do a hard-reset. Also, I have windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, BIOS 2.52, 4G RAM Thank you in advance for your time, because I do not know what else to do and these problems are driving me crazy.

My laptop uses a track point mouse, which is a red covred plastic thing in the middle of my keyboard on my laptop. I am using an IBM thinkpad 600x laptop. Anyways, my mouse on my laptop is broken. it goes all over my screen and i can't control it. it is spastic, and it does not move alot of times as well. And I have tried to disable it, but it did not work. Also, when I plug a regular mouse in, it works fine, unless the trackpoint is acting up. I want to disable the trackpoint mouse, but still use a regular mouse. Is that possible?

Question: ultranav

I recently installed (clean install) windows 7 ultra 32 bit on my lenovo, previously vista, 32 bit.  the touch pad and the red joystick no longer work. it worked at first, I shut down,  but then hasn't worked since.  I downloaded new drivers from lenovo, and checked the bios settings.  most of the instruction I see tells me to either hit Fn f8 to activate the settings for these devices, or select in programs or systray.  I have none of these options.  does anyone out there in lenovo-land have any ideas?  any would be appreciated. (and yes, it's plugged in!!!)

Answer:ultranav

Hello,

Have you tried installing the ThinkVantage System Update software?  When run, it automatically locates and installs any missing ThinkVantage software, such as the drivers for the TrackPoint pointing stick and the touch pad.

Question: IBM UltraNav

Setting up a new computer is tough these days when companies like IBM decide that manuals can be replaced by little blurbs on the screen. (User friendly they call it - which means for the illiterate who can't read books.) Now we sure do need Major Geeks!
I hate my touch pad deciding to send off my e-mails before they're done, and suddenly doing its thing in other ways. I presume I may have tapped it, though I just think the touchpad has a mind of its own! I know the silly thing can be disabled, but can anyone give a good explanation of how to do it?

Hi, after clean reset of windows 10, I can't seem to get the Ulranav utillity installed correctly - I install the correct driver through device manager then restart - then install the ultranav utillity in windows 7 compabillity mode. But there are no UltraNav tab in mouseproperties. Touchpad works but I can't configure it without the UltraNav tab.

This is a lenovo thinkpad R500 with ALPS touchpad.

I'm thinking it might be a (MS screwup) in the registry - but where?

Or it might be that the november update has messed up the utillity install.

It worked before the reset and its the same driver and utillity.

EDIT: should any of you run into this, then use regedit to delete all ALPS you can and then download and run Ccleaner and use it to clean registry.

Then reinstall the driver - this worked for me Good I had alot of time to figure it out

Having downloaded the UltraNav driver, after accidentally removing the original, the device looks and operates completely differently than the one I'd lost. My computer does not recognize that ultranav has been loaded in the program files and when I click on Mouse Properties, there is no UltraNav tab. Wondering what I really downloaded. I have a Edge E40 thinkpad (purchased March 2011) and my ultranav does not work (the trackpoint nor the 3 buttons closest the the keyboard respond, on the other hand, the touchpad and 2 buttons on the bottom work perfectly)I recently had my keyboard replaced (on Dec 19, 2011) and I am certain that the cause of this problem occured then. The bottom left side of the keyboard does feel a little looser than it should. In the mouse properties window, under the UltraNav tab, the track point box is grayed out with the "enable trackpoint" unckecked. Under the Hardware tab, and in the ThinkPad UltraNav Pointing Device Porperties window, it states that "This device is working properly."The driver used is: Synaptics, ver. 15.3.34.0, 17/11/2011I believe that I downloaded and installed the lastest driver and many other updates for the laptop updates, (I did after realizing that it didn't work hoping that this would fix the problem) In the diagnosis section of the ThinkVantage Toobox, under Other devices of Test a Device, the option of testing the trackpoint is not given (I don't know if this is normal or not) Does anybody have a similar problem or have a solution to this problem?(hopefully it does not involve me opening up thee laptop nor going back the the company that repaired it since it is a long distance)

Answer:UltraNav will not work

Hi YuXuanI think the keyboard is not placed / installed properly, therefore it causes bottom left side of the keyboard to feel looser. I wouldn't suggest that you took out and attempt to detach and reattach the keyboard to see if it works. The touchpad and 2 buttons are integrated and connected with the palmrest (fingerprint reader, etc.), hence it is unaffected. Probably, the keyboard or the system board (pins of keyboard port) is faulty.  Use Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox to check if your warranty is onsite or carry-in. If it's onsite, you could probably call them to your place for repair. If not, you may really have to going back to the company. Cheers PeterThinkPad: W520 (4284-A99)=============================================Does someone?s post help you? Question: Ultranav issues

Hello, I have factory default windows sxp 32 bit installed on a lenovo R400. sudenly, when i type, it somehow and just sometimes but quite often "clicks" (~ reloacate the pointer) and then suddenly - i find myself typing 50 chars back, in the middle of some word. quite random stuff, but I hate it. I googled that ultranav is the problem, or simply touchpad. for obvous reaons i will not disable bios touchpad. so i downloaded this http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-66898 but it is useless as 'dpinst.exe ' is not a valid win32 application... So now what? i do not want to risk to uninstall the current touchapd driver, tho it is owkring, but messing up the typed text, due to obvious reason - there is a high risk it wont let me reinstall the ultranav, therefore i will be without any touchapd, and will not reinstall the windows, rhater throw the expensive lenovo out of window. regards

I then went to adjust the  Scrolling Region  but it is grayed out. I tried checking and unchecking the "Enable One Finger Scrolling" box, clicking "Apply", rebooting the PC, etc multiple times.A search on the forum only returned issues with scrolling not working with some programs, but nothing related to this. The Edge Motion region box is also greyed out. I then logged in as Administrator (I'm the only user on this PC) and  the scrolling region can be adjusted there, just like I used to be able to do when logged in as a standard user. Thanks in advance!

Last week I got back the laptop from service, it got a new motherboard. When I first booted it up, everything was fine, except the touchpad's buttons, they were not functioning. I thought they might forgot to connect it back to the motherboard, but I googled it and i found this issue in a thread, they said I should enable it at  Control Panel > Mouse > Ultranav > Settings > Buttons. I did it, but somehow I disabled the touchpad at all, and it was impossible to switch it back with the keyboard. I thought a reinstall would solve the problem, but it was a big mistake!Since then I couldn't find an UltraNav driver that can be installed. And of course I forgot where I installed it from. Someone, please, help! (I know, that theoritically UltraNav does not support my laptop, but it did, and i miss the programmable multitouch functions.)

I am trying to use the coasting feature on my Thinkpad T510 for scrolling but it will only coast a very short distance - too short to make the feature at all useful. I have an old Dell laptop where the Synaptics coasting feature works brilliantly for scrolling through long documents, the amount of flick affects the speed & distance it coasts, so if I am looking for something a few pages down I can allow it to continue to coast untill I see what I want then just touch again to stop. Very intuitive. Here on the practice maze graphic it only coasts for about an inch. I notice in the revision information for the driver something similar was supposed to have been fixed in an earlier release. I was already on a later version but I updated to the latest driver (16.6) anyway. Unfortunately it hasn't helped.

This issue has only been happening recently. The touchpad is responsive, but eventually the mouse buttons act up and become unresponsive. Eventually the touchpad will not work either, especially when the computer awakens from sleep mode. I have updated the drivers, rolled back the drivers, and system restored. Every time the computer reboots, the issue seems resolved but progressively comes up again. I've resorted to using an external mouse, which isn't ideal for a laptop. If there's any additional information that's needed to solve this issue, please let me know! Thank you for looking at my problem!

The UltraNav driver that ships with the X300 - latest version included - does not generate mouse wheel messages in a manner that is universally recognized.  This is true for trackpoint with middle button pressed and for touchpad edge scrolling.  Most applications are working OK on my X300, but a couple of key applications don't work, yet they do work well with standard usb mouse, usb touchpad, and when run on other laptops using Alps touchpads with Synaptics drivers.Does anyone know of a good alternative to the lenovo-supplied UltraNav touchpad/trackpoint driver?  I have tried every combination and permutation of settings for the UltraNav driver without success. Thanks for your help,Faz

Answer:Alternate UltraNav Drivers?

the ultranav drivers are from synaptics.   perhaps you could find something on their site.
