Better Battery for Lenovo Thinkpad R61 that doesn't stick out

Question: Better Battery for Lenovo Thinkpad R61 that doesn't stick out

Hi, My 14.1" R61 follows with a 4-cell battery. I feel that this is insufficient. Does there exist a battery with better capacity which does not stick out of the laptop?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Better Battery for Lenovo Thinkpad R61 that doesn't stick out

unfortunately the answer is no, but you can get an ultrabay bay battery, that fits in your ultrabay slot, it should add around 1 to 1.5 hours to your battery life.

So I got myself the Lenovo ThinkPad W510 the other day, specific model being "431929G", along with it I got myself a 9-cell battery instead of the included 6-cell as well as this additional "slice battery" solutions which you attach at the bottom of the computer using the docking port it seems? The box which this slice battery came in was marked model 57Y4545, the piece of battery inside however says FRU: 42T4739? I guess and hope it's the same thing?  It does attach to the bottom of my W510 without any issues whatsoever, I lock it in place so I get that green indicator which should mean it's supposed to function? But it doesn't.. ThinkVantage Power Manager do pick up the battery but it's just standing there at 12% battery with no activity? Even after the main 9-cell is fully charged it wont start to charge the slice battery? I did even remove the main 9-cell in order to see whether or not that would change anything, but it didn't? And if I remove the power cord when running only the slice battery the W510 will just drop dead? So it's not charging, neither is it providing my W510 with any more battery life? It just sits the with 12% battery with no activity whatsoever, no charging or usage at all?

Answer:ThinkPad Battery 27++ (9cell) 57Y4545 wont work with my Lenovo ThinkPad W510?

Are you sure you're running the latest power manager? I.e., have you updated all the system drivers, os drivers, bios, etc.?

I just received a lenovo y550 in the mail (11/30/2009) not too long ago, and the first thing that I noticed is that the laptop won't stay on without the ac adaptor plugged in. Right when the power jack is removed from the computer, the CPU completely shuts down and stays dead.  I also noticed that the power indicator on the lower right is stuck at 84% available (plugged in, not charging). I charged the computer for over 10 hours, and the number is still the same. All in all, I'm pretty sure that the battery is the problem here. I looked all over Lenovo's page for a customer support number but I couldn't find it. ADMIN, if you're reading this, I would like to have a Lenovo Y550 battery replacement sent to me. I have the invoice #, payment/order history, etcetera for my order. Please let me know. Thanks

Answer:Lenovo Y550- Brand new, Battery doesn't charge (stuck at 84%). Need new battery.

Hi every one, I have a newly bought thinkpad x200 tablet 8 cell battery (12++). According to the ads on lenovo website, it should last over 10 hours under a good condition. But mine has never before reach to that time duration.Although I used lowest setting, turned off the wifi and any thing i can, it only reach 5h30'. Under normal use, it only reach 3 hours. How can I reach 10 hours as the ads (or at least 8 hours) ?   The lenovo battery software showed the following information: Remaining percentage: 82%Remaining Time: 2:59Remaining capacity: 54.98WhFull charge capacity: 67.70 WhCurrent:  0.86AVoltage:  15.08 VWattage:  12.87WTemperature: 26 CCycle count: 4Manufacture name : SANYOManufacture date: 2009-09-04First use date: 2009 - 10Serial number: 31025Bar-code number: 1ZFBY994NXTFRU part number:  42T4658Device chemistry:   Li-IonDesign capacity:   66.24 WhDesign voltage:  14.40 V

Answer:Thinkpad x200 table 8 cell battery doesn't last long

It's really false advertisement. That's all I can say. I did get better battery life, when I did a full clean install of Windows 7, without any bloatware that came with the system orginally. But under balanced setting, I would only get 6+ hours (never did the exact calculations, but it did go for at least 6 hours). From what I know, it's near impossible to get this system past 8 hours (unless it's constantly on sleep or hibernate).

Thinkpad X240 running Win 7 Pro. Has an internal battery and a removable battery. Our power supply (240v) was a little shaky yesterday and the AC adapter popped a couple times before I unplugged it to give it a rest. The last chance I had to confirm, it was charging the computer correctly. Then the power gave out completely. Today power is back and my battery is drained. When I plug in the adapter, power light blinks three times, I believe indicating that it is getting power from the adapter. When I try to boot the computer, I get the ThinkPad launch screen, and then I immediately get a 190 Critical Battery Error. I also get the error if I press enter for special options. I get the same behavior if I plug into a 240-120v converter instead of the 240v power outlet. The tongue test confirms that there is power coming out of the adapter, but I don't have access to a multimeter. I have tried using the pinhole reset before the 190 error, but the behavior doesn't change. I have also tried this code: http://www.masnick.com/2007/09/07/the-secret-thinkpad-powerbutton-code-to-bring-dead-laptops-back-to... but I have not removed the internal battery so the computer begins to boot when I start entering the combination. I am in a remote location and I prefer to address myself if at all possible.

Answer:Thinkpad X240 doesn't use power from AC adapter + 190 critical battery error

I found someone else with a recent Lenovo model that used the same charger, and their charger was able to charge the battery. So I suspect this is most likely a fried adapter. Although if there are any ideas, I will welcome them.

Hi. I just upgraded my notebook (ThinkPad Edge 14", E40) from Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit to Windows 8 Pro 64-bit few days ago. After the upgrade, the touchpad gesture worked (e.g. swipe from right edge shows the charm bar) but the battery didn't charge. I thought it was the problem of battery, so I sent it to service center to check it. (But from the Power Manager program, the charge cycle was less than 50 and very unlikely that the problem was caused by the battery.) Few days later, I got my notebook back (yesterday). Service center said that they can charge the computer with Windows 7 (using their hard disk with Windows 7 on it), so they suggested me to reinstall my system. I then refresh the system using Windows 8 built-in function (which could be found in PC settings/ General/ Refresh computer). After that, the problem was not solved, in addition, the touchpad gesture was gone. (So I wasted my money for nothing... :-( In short, here are the problems with my computer:Battery doesn't charge, even the level dropped to 30% and I have AC power plugged in.Touchpad gesture is gone, even I have installed UltraNav driver through Windows Update.Do anyone experience similar issues? I read a few pages on this site and found that some drivers are said to be compatible with Windows 8 (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT072024), should I install the Power Management Driver? Hey Community! We have an issue in our company: We have some above-named Laptops, but one of them doesn't start every week so I have to press the reset-button on the bottom of the device for 10 seconds, after that it starts successfully. In my opinion that isn't a solution for ervery time! The Laptop has warranty so can I get a new one, because it's an internal problem?

I have a Lenovo X230, running Kubuntu 14.04. When I disconnect the slice battery at the bottom the system resets, it's very annoying. What's worse is that it seems like jostling the system, also can cause it to power cycle. I don't really have a need to remove the slice battery very often, but essentially if I put the laptop into standby, and put it in by laptop knapsack, the system is off after I get where I'm going. Thoughts? I saw somewhere that allegedly, when you unlock the battery, some thinkpad utility gets notified to switch the power, I wonder if the hotplug is a software only solution, and not doable in standby. Steve Ramage

Hello, I'm having some poor battery performance  on my Thinkpad 13 (~4 hours average battery life). I've used the lenovo application and found that my battery still has its full capacity/capability. I often run my 13 on the 'power saver' battery option. I'm also often having issues with significant battery drain even while the laptop is in 'sleep' mode.  Does anyone have any suggestions for these issues?  I am considering upgrading my battery, though I'm not sure which battery to buy--which batteries are compatibe and which ones would give me a significantly longer battery life. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Did you buy the battery form Lenovo or elsewhere? Or, did it come with the R400?

yes there is a recall notice regarding some ThinkPad notebook batteries.  Your B575 is not a ThinkPad branded product rather a Lenovo branded product.  You can review recall notices on the following linked to web site;

Hello!I bought my Edge 420 two years ago and really love it. But after installing WIndows 8.1 battery life decreased for 2.5-3 hours from one battery charge. I don't wanna back to Windows 7, because I like new OS without any lag and problem. Not long ago I read about 9-cell battery and want to buy it. But where? Which store or place do you recommend for buying? And I know, that batteries capacity may go down because of time (laptop sales have begun in 2011). Should I buy new 9-cell battery? Or just forget about it and continuing using my old 6-cell?Thank you for replies!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E420. 9-Cell Battery.

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Capacity of a battery declines as the battery ages, with the number of charge cycles and time at high temperature. Under average usage patterns your battery maintains approximately 70% of its power capacity after the first year of operation.

If you feel that the battery backup is too low, try doing a battery firmware upgrade and BIOS update. Check the Lenovo support site for any battery firmware updates for your particular model.

Refer this knowledgebase which explains some tips to improve battery backup.

Still if you feel like getting a battery replacement, I would suggest you to contact Lenovo technical support. I'm sure they would be of great help.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hello again, I know I haven't posted in a while, but I have a computer problem. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W500 running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I recently cleaned out the hard drive. I reinstalled the operating system and last night, the battery charged 100%, and a few hours ago, when I plugged the charging charging cord into the computer and turned the computer on, and the computer said the battery was at 5% charge, plugged in but not charging. (P.S. I installed the itunes 64 setup file to set itunes back up again.) The computer said that there were problems with the battery and I should consider getting a new battery. The charging cord is plugged into the computer, and I intend to have the charging cord plugged into the computer overnight. Should I? And what site or store should I go to to get a new battery? Do I need a new charging cord? Or is there is a way to solve it without getting a new charging cord ot battery? Any help would be greatly appeeciated.

Batteries are warrantied for one year, so run (don't walk) to your nearest Lenovo support center.  Or call Lenovo. You can look up your exact warranty status on Lenovo's website.

I have an issue with a G50-45 notebook. The owner is an older acquaintance of mine who couldn't use it with the WIndows 8, which is the original OS comming with it, so in order to install a WIn 7 was needed an update of the BIOS (Downloaded from the official Lenovo support center ofcourse). After the update I finaly managed to boot Windows 7 on the notebook, but now it won't turn on, while battery is on. I tried the battery draining suggestions mentioned not once or twice in this forum, and nothing gave result.(Ref: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-B-and-G-Series-Notebooks/G50-won-t-start-on-battery/td-p/2140152 )  When pressing the power OR the Novo button it is getting in a cotinous boot loop while battery is on. I tryed many varieties, but while the battery is installed - the notebook keeps restarting, but when I remove it and power on only on AC, evrything seems to be going quite well. So after I installed the new OS, I digged myself into the forum, and I ran onto the above mentioned techniques, but unfortunatelly after several tries - I give up. My question is - do you have any other ideas? Is my problem hardware, because it does not exit when I remove this particular hardware - the battery, or it is some issue because of the updated BIOS?  I hope somebody will give me the next direction how to fix what I did, please =) Thank you in advanced  BRStacy

Hello Guys, Since I couldn't find any solution for my problem, I decided to write here, hoping that someone (either from team Lenovo or from the users) have the same problem and therefore can help me. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13 model (version 0217). (I bought it from a friend, since it was not shipped anymore when I decided to buy it.)I have problems with my battery. The design capacity of it is 62.12 Wh, I used it wisely, so it wasn't always charged up to 100%. I always discharge it down around 5-7% and then plug in the AC adapter. (See image.)  My first problem is that in the last 3 months, the capacity is gone down to 45.88 Wh and I can't really figure out why. Can this be a generic problem with the battery? My second problem is - for which I've found another topic here but it didn't help me - that when I charge the battery, charging stops at 99%, showing "3 minutes is remaining" and if I unplug and replug the adapter, it stops as 99% saying it is fully charged. In the battery maintenance, I changed the settings from "Always fully charge" to Custom, but still, it won't charge up the battery fully.  My third problem is that I updated the BIOS of my laptop some days ago and when I try to search for a battery firmware update or when I do a battery gauge reset, the system suddenly shuts down without any warning or whatever. I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this, I really love my laptop but it really bugs me..... Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 13 (0217) battery problem

1) Battery do wear out eventually, you already have 234 cycles on the battery. So the battery capacity drop in the latter part of the cycles count is quite normal. It is nature of these battery to wear out. 2) For thinkpads, this behaviour is quite normal, this helps to prevent unnecessary wear on the battery cell. Once you use your battery back to say 95% or so, it will recharge back to 100%. 3) Are you saying that your laptop no longer works or that it intermittently shuts down?

Hello, Lenovo Thinkpad E470 is one of the worst laptop i ever came across. We have 15-20 laptops and from day1 we are facing issues. Firstly there was a issue with Screen flickering we tried all the possible fixes and it took almost 1month to get fixed. It is dead slow and doesn't respond for most of the time. Now we are facing some crazy issue. By default it doesn't detect LAN. We need to enable and Disable Lan adapter then it works for 3-4 hours then all of a sudden it stops working again. If we try to disable and Enable the Lan adapter the LAN adapter disappears completely. Please lenovo technical team reply dont send a system generated mails. Your service is so worst.

Hi folks!I was a happy owner of brand new W530 machine untill I mentioned that it doesn't charge the battery. The machine came to me with 94% charged batt and since then it got to 4% mark. Symptoms:-Lenovo Power Manager detects the batt, says it's good and charging, doesn't estimate how long it would get to charge it.-Windows power manager says "Pluged in, charging"-W530 worked perfectly on the batt, I made it to drain the battery by unplugging power cord and running "heavy" applications.-The battery indicator on top cover is flashing orange once per second.-AC Power source outputs 20.5V, BIOS v.1.08, Lenovo software of the most current versions. What I've tried:-Uninstalling and reinstalling Lenovo Power Manager.-Enabling/Disabling/Uninstalling "Microsoft ACPI - blah-blah"-Unplugging power cord and battery, pressing power button for 40 seconds and assebmling all together. Any working ideas are wellcome.

Hello, I have a much-beloved Flex 3 maybe 10 months old.First question: The battery says it's charging, but it's not actually charging. I"m guessing the battery's shot? I don't have the tools to open the thing up and try disconnecting the battery yet. Second question: Assuming it's dead, is there any problem with runnning the laptop just on the power adaptor? I did see that for other models this seems to be ok. I'm outside the US right now and have little hope of getting a new battery until July. Every day the battery decreases 1%, and eventually it'll be gone. I can wait until I get back if I can run on a dead battery. Currently at 57%.In case it's relevant, I'm in West Africa in 220V land.(As a side note, I dropped the thing when I first arrived and the screen cracked, but it hasn't lost any functionality so far, so kudos to Lenovo for that!) Thanks in advance for any help or advice. I do appreciate it.

Good afternoon all,

I have been in the process of making my laptop, a Lenovo Thinkpad T410, a much better device to use. While I've been having HDD issues, my main issue right now is the battery that I had purchased. With the IBM Power Manager software, the battery is listed as a Sanyo 42T4710. It is a 9 cell battery and I will provide any other information you need.

When I had first purchased the device, after charging for awhile the battery icon on the laptop would begin to flash amber. It will not charge to 100%, and usually stops at 96%. With the battery manager, the charge threshold is set to "Always Full Charge (Start when below 96% and end at 100%). I tried to run the battery gauge reset option, however the laptop permanently stayed at 96% and never discharged lower than that.

Are there any recommendations that you can make for what I should do with the battery?

Thanks!

Hello to all! The situation:I bought the laptop last summer when I was in USA. Then the problem with the battery has appeared (battery status was bad, and battery changing was required) and one day it wasn't able to charge it at all. So i placed my laptop to the authorized service center here in Russia. They replaced the battery but said that it has problem with charging controller on motherboard and Lenovo doesn't send such motherboard to Russia. Now I can start my laptop without battery(after pressing power button 20 secs) and it able to charge the battery only when it is totally empty (if I unplug the power adapter and plug it again the charging is not going to continue). Lenovo representative in Russia said that they can do nothing. Y410P has international warranty. What should I do? Thanks in advance!

Yesterday I plugged my ThinkPad in for charging and let it charge, I am pretty sure it charged to 100% last night and had no errors. I wake up today to see the battery light flashing yellow and an error in the message center and battery manager that says:"A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. My old battery was barely holding a charge so I ordered a new 8 cell battery from Lenovo. It arrived yesterday. I put it in and charged it and worked with the tablet. Hi there, I am after few laptops and Thinkpad W530 tops my list - beating Elitebooks and Precisions in the process. I am after the top spec and a Quad-Core is a must (virtualisation + some heavy development). What makes me worried though is the reported CPU throttling issue of W530 that occurs while laptop runs on battery power (unplugged from AC) only - all the way down to seriously low 1.2Ghz! Happens when the discreet NVIDIA card is on. I can understand physics behind it as there might be not enough output wattage left to drive K1000 (35Watts) or K2000 (45Watts) but those kepler GPUs are still a far cry from 100Watts GTX680 present in some (though some 17inch) laptops with very little throttling happening. New quad core retina Macbook pro with its 45W GT 650M graphics card exhibits no serious throttling issue whatsoever while on battery - proof it can be done. Only as an example though, retina Macbook is no good for me. I wouldn?t mind bit of it say to 2-2.2Ghz still keeping the GPU and full power and active but to throttle the CPU down to some entry level ULV 1.2Ghz I find quite outrageous - as reason to consider laptop in the first place (dashing Elitebooks for instance) is portability and ability to work on the go purely on the battery power (whether battery lasts for 2 hours or for 5 hours would not matter much, hibernate swap the batteries all of this with SSD is less than a minute). 1.) Is there a way around this? Forcing 3rd party BIOS and... Read more

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad W530 CPU throttling issue while on battery power - few questions or any solution?

It depends on the configuration of the cells in the battery pack. Those laptops generally have more cells (like a 12-cell pack), likely wired to allow for such loads at the cost of battery life. AFAIK, the 9-cell will also throttle.Supposedly, you can use ThrottleStop to counter the throttling, but do so at your own risk and all that jazz. Nevertheless, if you plan to impart such a drain on the battery pack often, expect to replace it within one or two years.

Hi there. Got a Thinkpad Twist i7 Under win8 64b, 8go ram. At first everything was fine , the Lenovo settings Metro App managed battery as i wanted : Health battery was well managed , and the charge was maintained at 50% when AC pluged in if set the health mode ON. ---------but now : After several official updates of the system and bios I noticed changes : At first , the healh mode , when ON , didn't keep the charge at 50% but let the battery goes down toward few % left then charges it near 100% Some further updates and i couldn't activate the battery life extension ( the slide button goes from ACTIVE to DISABLE automatically after few seconds) Now , after installing the latest version of the Dependency package and the dependancy power management drivers , and even after deleting the Lenovo settings Metro APP and instal it back again I can't use this management efficiently. To sum up what occurs : 1-unable to activate the battery life extension option2-battery health mode doesn't keep the charge at 50% but let it discharge then recharges it fully.3-sometimes after going from health mode to full charge mode , the AC while still detected, is not allowed to charge the battery . So i have to shut down the computer. There the charge begins as normal.4-battery state went in less than 48 hours from Excellent , to Good , then Satisfaying. Well if someone has an idea...as there is no mail to directly contact the support... Answer:Lenovo settings : battery health management doesn't work anymore

Battery health mode will actually be going away in the next update.  It doesn't work properly, can't be fixed reliably, and really has no value except in the case where you leave your system constantly plugged in for YEARS.  So I'm afraid I can't help you with this setting.  My advice is to change the setting to "Always fully charge" and forget about it.

You also report a problem about battery life extension, are you referring to the setting called Battery Stretch?  Are you saying that you change the switch from Off to On, then just sit there and look at it, and a few seconds later it will go from On to Off all by itself?

Hello,My battery will typically charge all the way up to 100%. Once there, it generaly stops charging until it reaches around 10%. And then the cycle repeats. Sometimes the charging will vary (for instance, at 6% instead of 10%), and will sometimes only charge to maybe 30% or so. Another case that happens is my battery will start charging at say 90% up to 100%, then stops.I have had a previous issue where my charger stopped working so I bought a new one. I thought that was the issue again so I bought another one but nothing has changed. *note-> I'm running windows 7 operating system on my laptop (I found it makes my laptop run faster then windows 8 or 10).I'm a CS student and badly need my laptop as one might imagine. I purchased 4 of these for my company in December 2011 and today have had to arrange for the 3rd one to be returned to Lenovo with the same problem.  The battery stops charging and will not hold charge and will not run unless powered into ac supply. The laptop will then not power on at all, completely dead no lights / sounds etc and when returned the previous 2 they have replaced the motherboard and have had no problems since. Even though have had this problem with 2 of the others Lenovo Technical Support have still said have to return it at my expense which because of the data included on it have had to return special delivery costing 25 a time. They are returned withuin 7 days but think there may be a problem as this is a 75% failure rate. Anybody else had this problem as is putting me off buying anymore?

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E520 i5 Laptops with Windows 7 - Dead Laptop with Battery Problems

Since you got the machine In December then this maybe the case, as some batch of these machines were affected by the EEPROM issues.

There is nothing on the Internet that I found to document the exact process to remove and replace the internal battery on the Twist. So, wen the battery died on my Twist I video taped ow I did it. I made some mistakes, read the description, but I am creating this post on it now, I have an operational battery and the computer seems no worse for the amateur wear. This is not a video series that is endorsed by anyone nor should it be a replacement for professional service. Do not attempt! Do not consume. Recycle as your state and country law's dictate. The laptop works completely fine while connected to DC directly, with or without battery in it. The problems are as follows: - as soon as I unplug DC the laptop stops immediately. (while charged, charging or not, but recognized battery is in it. - I can't start laptop only on battery with the power on button. If I press an release it several times it may start for a while( 5-8secondes  if I keep power on pressed but shuts down afterwards) - If I keep pressed the lenovo care button(the red tool case button) the laptop starts and I'm able to operate it until battery drains out, while is kept pressed. I've reset bios also from CLRP1 but doesn't resolve the problem. Please let me know how should I fix this problem, while the battery works in other laptops also. Thanks!

Hopefully someone here will be able to help me. My warranty expired in late November, but about a month before I had a power issue and the motherboard was to blame. It got fixed uner warranty and everything has been working fine until today. I had the laptop charging overnight and when I woke up this morning the battery indicator was still red, but it was running because the ac adapter was in. However, the battery indicator was solid and not blinking so it wasn't charging. I pulled the adapter out and re-inserted it. The battery indicator began blinking as if it was charging, but became solid again after only a few second. Then the power indicator (z with a circle around it or number 4 on the list of lights) started blinking steady like the battery indicator should. I tried to look it up on the forums, but as I was doing so it shut off. I pulled everything out for a couple of minutes and reconnected it, but now when I power up it loads a bit and just turns off. Any ideas? New motherboard again? If they fixed this and it is broke again is the warranty extended? Thanks to all those that help.

Hi all! As written in the topic I have a huge problem with the run-on-battery-management of my X301-System + Windows 7 SP1. I replaced the optical drive with a secondary battery (ultrabay). Both batteries were identified by the system and charged to 100%.But when I run the system on battery, the system only uses the second battery. So if it runs down, the system turns into suspend/hibernate mode even if the primary battery is charged to 100%.Why doesn't the system switch automatically to the primary battery, when the second one is empty? As long as the second battery is down, the system also won't start/resume from the suspend/hibernate mode. Does anyone know this problem? Is there a known solution for that problem? Thanks a lot for your help. Greets from Germany enweh

I bought lenovo y500 two days ago in INDIA.  In the lenovo energy management system 8.0, I found a battery calibration option and decided to do it.  The steps mentioned there were as follows. 1. Full charge2. Full discharge  The process performed full charging followed by complete discharge of the battery which caused the laptop to shut down.   When I tried turning on my laptop, it could not start.  The battery charging indicator LED wasnt switched on even though the power cord was inserted into the laptop.  I could start the laptop only after removing the battery.   Once the laptop was on, I inserted the battery back in and it began to charge.  After about 50% of charging, I removed the power cord and inserted it again.  Now the battery couldnt resume charging.  I again had to shut down the laptop and repeat the above steps of inserting battery after switching on the laptop without battery.  Only then the battery would resume charging. After this, I decided to allow the battery to charge to 100%. But, the charging remained stuck at 99% and could not fully charge the battery.  When I removed and reinserted the power cord, the same problem persisted of battery not resuming charging. Please help me with this problem.  I read on few forums about uninstalling microsoft ACPI which supposedly solves this issue.  However, ACPI returns back after I restart my laptop.I also tried switch... Answer:LENOVO Y500 BATTERY NOT CHARGING AFTER USING LENOVO'S BATTERY GAUGE CALIBRATION

ADMIN Edit - While the original post below is marked as the solution, because service will be required if the battery will no longer charge after performing a battery reset, I am adding a Lenovo update here to confirm.   Normal operation will allow the battery to relearn its capacity characteristics when using the battery reset function.  Typically this is not needed in normal use..   Batteries are equipped with a safety feature that will permanently disconnect them (like a fuse) if cell imbalance or an internal short is detected.   This tends to be statistically infrequent, but also normal, and would require a battery replacement.  (Batteries have a 1 year warranty).   This battery feature can also  produce similar results to what is being discussed in the thread, so it should first be considered by service.   This particular  forum discussion also involves a situation that could affect a limited number of systems, and could lead service to replace the system board during warranty.

If your system experiences these symptoms, please contact service during the warranty period.

Hi everyone,
My name is James and I've been using my Lenovo y500 for 2 years now (originally bought it to use for school/gaming). I've never had any problems with my laptop until I performed a battery gauge calibration using an app that was made by LENOVO. Now I know this is a known problem but what about the people who have purchased these Lenovo computers, expecting them to last? It's really not fair to the people with no more warranty because this is software that literally came pre-installed with the computer. Like, why put this app on these computers if it's going to break your motherboard? Anyways... The ONLY way I can ever charge my laptop now is by doing this annoying/tedious process that I managed to find on this forum.
link: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Solution-for-laptop-cannot-detect-AC-adapter-af...1. Remove the battery (if laptop is powering on, then shutdown it first).2. Remove the AC adaptor from wall ac receptacle. 3. Once the laptop is completely powered down, plug AC adaptor to your laptop and wall AC receptacle.4. After a few second, insert battery back into the Laptop. And then, the battery will be chaged as usaul.5. You need to repeat step 1-4 above every time you unpluged the AC adaptor.

This is extrememly embarassing for me sometimes especially when I have class because people look at me like "what's with this kid's computer? it must be bad."  So, it's really ridiculous how little is being done about this... Read more

I contacted Lenovol support and they send me a replacement unit. The the replacement unit has the same problem. Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.  I need to plug in the power adapter for both docking station and notebook.  Does anybody have similiar problem?

Answer:Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.

Everbody's p51 would be the same.  The thunderbolt port won't work as a charging port.  The thunderbolt specs specify 100w max.  That's not enough.  Your thunderbolt port is not for charging.  To charge via the dock, you need a workstation dock, not a thunderbolt dock.  A thinderbolt dock can charge things like an x1 carbon (5th gen) or x1 yoga (2nd gen)

It looks like the problem is pretty the same as with "Ideapad Z400 or Z500 battery will not charge - plugged in not charging". My battery worked fine when the OS was Vista , Windows 8, but after windows 8.1 installation it was "plugged but no charging". I already have reinstalled the windows, nothing happened. I tried to install the same firmware as Z500, but it isn't work. Lenovo Solution Center displays battery as "Battery software not installed". Downloading and running Settings Dependency Package does not help. I can't find a new firmware in any place  Please Help! By the way, I checked my windows version, and it appears Windows 8 Pro (like it was before I tried to upgrade to win 8.1)

Hello, My x300 laptop battery error message says to replace the original battery...BUT I can't find out which replacement battery to buy and where to buy it.  My x300 model number is: 64781TU; Can you help me? Thank you.

Answer:thinkpad laptop X300; battery error message; need replacement battery

patient, welcome to the forum,

originally your system had the 3 cell battery installed. If you feel you could use a little extra stamina you could opt for the 6 cell battery. As an added extra, there is also a 3 cell battery you could use in place of the optical drive.

Hope this helps

Hey, I own a Thinkpad E220 (5380-CTO) and the "Lenovo Thinkpad Toolbox" gives me daily alerts that I have a "critical battery issue". The link leads me to a page to download and update the battery firmware. "Battery Firmware Updates for Main and Slice (external) batteries - ThinkPad Edge E220s, Edge E420s, X1" http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=HT062049&AID=10429688&PID=3719336&CJURL=http%3A%2F... I've gone through all the steps to update the firmware numberous times, including doing the battery recalibration and I STILL get the daily "critical battery error message". Please help, the daily scans eat up RAM and it's annoying that I have to cancel it daily. The battery, from what I can tell, works otherwise. Thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad E220 "Critical Battery Issue" even AFTER updating battery firmware

I do have exactly the same problem: keep getting the "critical battery issue" alert every sinle day! When I want to update the battery firmware, it says it cannot find any batteries that require firmware update. Yet, I get the same "critical battery issue" alert the next morning... This started happenning a few days a ago after I have updated the ThinkVantage Toolbox system; and it is already driving me crazy... Does anyone from Lenovo ever read these community blogs??? It seems like noone cares!

I've bought L430 with pre-installed windows 8 in December 2012. After 8 months of using, I don't have any problem until 2 weeks ago, the battery designed capacity has changed from 57Wh to 50Wh. I notice that I left the laptop pluged-in almost time in 2 weeks. I searched and read many topics, they said that the Battery Health Setting may be the cause of changing battery capacity.

There're 2 mode:
- Optimize for run time: for stay unpluged
- Optimize for battery health: for AC-pluged-in

Battery Capacity is 50Wh instead of 57Wh

Link to image 1

And under Lenovo Power Setting I cannot find any setting for Battery Health Mode. It just show up what mode is using so I think that it's automatic

But in the following topic, they said that we can manual change the mode: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/tkb/articleprintpage/tkb-id/[email protected]/article-id/396

I dont know what's my problem rightnow, I have updated to the lastest Lenovo Drivers and Software, why it didnt show up the Battery Health Mode option

I'm so very appreciate if anyone have an idea. Thank you for reading my topic.

Hey there, I've been having this problem for a long time and finally decided to look for help. Basically, I bought a new USB stick and plugged it in. My computer would search for windows updates, but it would never find the ones required, and the USB wouldn't install. When I unplug the USB and plug it back in again, the computer doesn't even recognize it, and nothing happens.

Currently, my computer is not updated, so that's one thing I won't try. I've installed windows 7 updates numerous times in the past, and every time I did, my computer would have problems starting up (i.e. my desktop would be a black screen when it starts and I can't do anything, or the place where I enter my password to log in doesn't load at all). I'm tired of doing system restores to fix this problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:USB stick doesn't work

Hi smugleaf and welcome to the forum.
Sounds like a faulty stick. First though what USB port are you plugging it in to? Have you tried another one preferably not in the front of the PC but in the back panel?

Ok, so here's my problem.

My Lenovo came with a pre-installed Win 8 x64 - I formatted it and installed Ubuntu.
Now I want Win 7 on it. So I'm making a bootable USB stick (don't have any CD ROM on the laptop) with Rufus (on my work computer). My BIOS can switch from UEFI to Legacy. I've tried and create a USB following your guide on post #1. However, it doesn't recognize the stick when I'm in UEFI. So I switch to Legacy, and then it pops up. Now I receive an error with drivers (during installation) which could be the result of the USB 3.0 ports. I'm not sure if any of them are 2.0, I just know that one of them is blue. However, I tried all of em' with the same error.

I tried 3 different ISO files with same result. I want to format the USB to FAT32 but the ISO is 5.1GB so that's not possible.
I mean, I have been able to create a bootable USB to install Ubuntu, but Win 7 won't work for some reason.

I don't know what to do anymore. I tried all different variations. UEFI on PC and NTFS on stick. Legacy in BIOS and so on.

Any suggestions?

Hi All, I have a Thinkpad T520. It won't charge the battery (% charged stays at the same level) and it won't run from the battery only. If I turn off/remove AC power the computer dies immediately and it won't start up without the AC power plugged in. The battery is definitely good, it works in another computer. Is this a problem which I can fix myself? Can it be repaired? Will it be expensive? Will it require a new motherboard? It is not under warranty. Thanks, so much SV P.S. Any suggestions will need to be written in fairly simple terms, I'm no expert

Answer:Thinkpad T520 won't charge battery or run from battery power.

The problem is the charging circuit on the motherboard. It might be a fuse, but that is soldered to the motherboard, so unless you have a well-equipped repair place with a rework station (not a dealer) they cannot replace the fuse. If it isn't a fuse, it is probably a power transistor, and you are not likely to find someone to fix it. Probably, you will need a motherboard

Contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. They should take care about it. For free, of course.

Hello,

I saw that few people has this same problem but there is not a answer to solve it, so I decided to posted again.

I have a A75-S2112 notebook, and Im having this problem with the adaptor and the battery.

When I connect the AC adaptor to the notebook the notebook does not switches automatically to outlet power and the battery is not charging.

When the notebook is off the yellow light comes on as if the battery were charging but it is not.

Should I get a new battery or a new adaptor.?

Answer:Satellite A75-S2112 doesn't switch to AC adaptor & battery doesn't charge

I believe you that there is no answer because without exact diagnostic it is not easy to say what the problem can be. Here on this forum we can just speculate about such issues but the answer can be given by technicians.

Battery or AC adaptor? What you think about faulty electronic on the mainboard? Can this be reason for described issue?

I recently purchased a T460 with an Ultradock 90w and when the notebook is docked it only shows battery 1 (internal) as charging. Battery 2 is not being used but it is not charging either and it is very very slowly discharging (about 3% over the last few days). If I plug the Thinkpad into its normal power supply outside of the dock both batteries charge (one at a time). Is this normal behavior or is there something wrong with my dock?

I have a 5-in-1 card reader in my ThinkPad Edge 13 laptop. I am assuming that I can use Sony's Memory Stick ProDuo card in the card reader. When I insert the memory stick, it is able to read the card, but it very difficult to eject (pull) the memory stick. Has anyone used the 5-in-1 card reader with Memory stick and have you figured out how to pull the card out after transfering photos to your laptop? Is there an adaptor that I need to use in order to effectively use with memory stick? It is very frustrating to use my memory stick with the 5-in-1 reader and I called the help desk and they had no clue how to use the 5-in-1 memory card with memory stick.
