WiFi Link 5100 for R400

Question: WiFi Link 5100 for R400

Maybe this problem is not the Mobile Intel 4 family express chipset but thw wireless card? I just received an R400 with the above intel media graphics accelarator. Unfortunately, when playing an game like Second Life, it completely locks up the laptop. When in wireless mode, the wirelss connection shuts down. There is no way to get it back without rebooting the computer. The same is true when connected by a LAN. I checked to make sure I have the latest driver for the chipset. As I am sure everyone is aware, millions of people use Second Life for work and play. Its too bad I cannot use this laptop. Any suggestions? Mac

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Guys,
This is Viral. I am using an Acer laptop model ASPIRE 4736 since the last five years. There haven't been much issues with it. except for the battery and thats it. But recently, since last two weeks I noticed that my Wifi would stop blinking after sometime after I start my laptop and then it wouldn't work even when I try to turn on and turn off the Wifi switch(it doesn't respond anything). I tried searching the net for this issue using my office laptop and found that a system restore would help to solve this issue. Since I remembered that I updated Java as well as there was this ad software which got installed and I had unistalled it. So I did a system restore and then when I opened the device manager, I am not able to see intel r wifi link 5100 driver on it. I tried restarting my laptop and did everything and couldn't find the driver(it was there before the system restore). But later on the same day, the driver got installed automatically and the WiFi started working but only for a couple of minutes after the restart and then it stopped. So  I did the system restore again to the date when everything was working perfectly and when i did that, again my intel r wifi link 5100 driver is not shown on the device manager(network adapters). I don't if it would automatically get installed or not but its sure that the WiFi issue still be there. So can you please help with this issue?

Hi I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW11E Laptop with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.
On the front is a switch to turn of the Wireless adaptor & a little green light that goes out when you switch it off.
Normally when I turn on the computer it comes on automatically but sometimes it does not & when I look at Device manager it is missing. The only way I can fix it is to turn the computer off & on again. Sometimes I have to do this several times before it will work.
It also goes off by itself if the computer is left on for any length of time without being used.

any ideas ?

Answer:Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN disappears

upgrade the driver.. look for the lastest version of the driver and upgrade it..

Howdy

I recently started an internship in Egypt about a week ago. When I first got here the wireless internet worked fine (albeit a bit slow) in my apartment and around the campus. However last thrusday the Wifi on my laptop quit working. I have a Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN that has Windows 7 RC on it right now. The adapter picks up the signal but when you try and connect it gives 'limited connectivity " = no internet. I tried using the Troubleshooter but when used it just says that The Diagonostic Policy service is not running and therefore it cannot fix the the problem. I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this problem.

Thanks

try this either set a hard coded dns

or hard code the ip if you know what your network ip address numbers are
that your access point uses

so say some thing like
this is very very common here

IP: 192.168.1. 100-150
SUBNET: 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY:192.168.1.1

and find a dsn server

dont use them numbers there just make sure that your using the right set for the network that your connecting too
i have the same card in my laptop and its a work horse and some

also is the network that your connecting too secure make sure you have your settings right

Hello, I'm trying to get wifi working on my x200, but nothing I try seems to work. Initially, in XP or Windows 7, the card wasnt even detected, so wouldn't come up in the unrecognized devices section in device manager.  I installed/uninstalled the drivers several times but nothing changed. I then opened up the Thinkpad and moved the wifi card from the first slot to the second.  Upon booting, in Windows 7 and again in xp, the card was recognised, but a code 10 error came up. I've tried replacing the wlan card with one from an R60, but the x200's boot software prevented the PC from booting up. Can anyon help? Thanks John

Answer:X200 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

Update to my first note.  After a day of installing countless drivers, bios updates and whatever else.  I'm pleased to say that my x200 is now woking in XP with wifi on the 5100. The PCI slot the 5100 card was in to start with did not register any device to be present.  The second slot, recognised the card but gave a code 10 error. I also followed the steps outlined in: kbartke's post on resolving the code 10 on 5100 issue.  That had no immediate effect, but may have eventually solved the problem. I also updated the bios to 3.02. The strange thing that seemed to work was changing the machine's name.  Once restarted, the wifi light came on. I now have to figure out how to get rid of all the bloatware i managed to install in my attempts to get this working... John

Dear Sir or Madam, I have a Lenovo 4446-25U G530 running XP Pro and equipped with WiFi Link 5100 AGN with driver 12.2.0.11 11-17-2008.  When I attempt to update my system using the Lenovo Care, I get a message to update my WiFi driver to 12.0.0.73.  During installation I get an error message:  c:\PROGRA~1\Lenovo\SYSTEM~1\session\52wi07ww\Vista\Docs\Icons\Thumbs.db  Access is denied.  At this point installation is halted at 80%.  When I click OK on the "Access is denied" window, the installation continues until I get a messge from System Update stating "1 Package was successfully downloaded and installed"  When I view installation history, the updated driver (12.0.0.73) is listed as having been installed, however when I check for system updates using Lenovo Care, it continues to show the WiFi Link 5100 driver as a pending update.  Apparently the installation is not sucessful. Is this a Vista only update that I should ignore? Regards,  Lou

Bump, srry i need help, here are the settings.

Answer:Help/Question? Intel (R) WiFi link 5100 AGN

hello ebartolon...
it's still is but remember this is a free forum....
since airbot already gave you the lecture on the bumping threads im not going to go into that...
but what i can tell you to do in the throughput enhancement to turn it on...
also in wireless mode put it to 802.11n as i believe right now you are using 802.11g and not using the n spec...

also even in ideal situations you are not going to get the throughput specified in the n spec or advertised...
it says *up to* because that is the maximum speed that it will go and usually the hardware never reaches that speed....

I've been having issues with my laptop and its wifi card for the past couple of months. It's an Intel WiFi Link 5100 and my internet just randomly stops working, other computers and devices still work fine, but on my computer I cannot browse the internet (however sometimes downloads don't stop for some reason). Updated my drivers, turning it off and on does nothing, and I'm pretty sure it's not my firewall but next time the internet stops working i'll make sure.

When I say it randomly stops working I mean I'll turn the computer on it will work for a bit then just stop then a little bit later it will work. No other computers or devices experience those kind of pulses here.

Ok I have a Asus G60VX thats less than a year old running windows 7. On Friday (three days ago) the system was working fine, I could connect to the internet and everything. Tonight when i turned on my laptop it showed that i couldn't connect to the internet. So i rebooted both my computer and router thinking it was my brother playing Xbox live. It still didn't work. So i tried the usual suspects: deleted the saved file and made a new one, went into the device manager and made sure there weren't any problems (there weren't), i even tried doing a system restore but to no avail. I tried the Fn combo on my keyboard and the switch on the front but this still didn't work. After three hours searching for a solution on my desktop (which can access the internet fine) I kinda want to take a sledge hammer to the thing. :) So at this point i'm begging for a solution! thanks!

Answer:Problem with Intel WiFi link 5100?

Hi.

Did you install any iTunes or Apple software before this happened?

For now, try resetting the network protocol tcp/ip stack. In an elevated command prompt, copy and paste this then hit enter:

Code:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
Then do the same for this command:

Code:
netsh winsock reset
Reboot and test the connection. If still no good, go into Internet Explorer.

Tools | Internet Options | Connection | Lan Settings

and make sure there are no checked boxes. Then ok your way out a few times. Reopen IE and test.

If still no good, please respond about the Apple, iTunes software and/or do you have mdnsresponder.exe in the task manager?

Hello!

I recently bought an Acer Aspire laptop (18.4" monitor). I am having difficulty connecting to the internet with this computer, and perhaps someone here can help me out. Here is some information:

Network Adapter: WiFi Link 5100 AGN
Router: Verizon Wireless (Model Name: MI424-WR)

Wireless network connections are detected, and the connection is "strong". However, when I try to connect, it always fails. When I go to the command prompt, and type "ipconfig" I see "Media Disconnected". I know there is a wireless button on the Acer's, but this is automatically turned on during startup, so I know this is not the problem. For some reason, my router is just not connecting to my network adapter, and I am unsure how to resolve this problem. Thanks for any insight of this issue!

Answer:Media Disconnected (WiFi Link 5100 AGN)

Maybe perhaps my wireless router is just not compatible with a Windows 7 64-bit system...

Hi, since my WLAN Card seems to be broken I bought myself a new Intel Wifi Link 5100 for my W500. After I replaced the old card with the new one, I get a "1802 unauthorized network card error".I googled for the problem an now I am completely pissed about lenovo. My W500 has a standard slot for such cards, but the W500 has a bios which checks cards against a whitelist and I cannot turn this completely useless check off.Any idea what I could do?2 weeks ago I started thinking about buying a new notebook after christmas. Now I wonder, whether the W530 suffers from the same problem. In the moment I am not sure, whether it makes any sense to buy another lenovo product, when it turns out, it could be crippled the same way as my W500. So does anybody know, whether the W530 suffers the same problem. A last question? What happens, when I plug a WLAN-Stick into USB? Must it also be authorized by lenovo and how do I find out, which products are authorized? Thanks in advance Thomas

Answer:W500 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

welcome to the community.

sorry for your troubles.
afaik, all ThinkPads of at least the last 5(?) or more generations have had a BIOS whitelist for mPCI/e WLAN / WWAN options. as i understand it, this is due to getting approvals from numerous "Communications" regulatory agencies around the world for the cards. unfortunately, i've never seen the whitelists published anywhere, so we normally go by the FRU #s included in hardware maintenance manuals when folks ask for advice on compatible cards.

re: the USB WLAN stick, you should have no issue similar to a whitelist block.

regards.

edit: correction and clarification.

I am new here. I'm not even sure if this question is in the correct forum (I hope so). I have a Toshiba Satellite A305 laptop that I purchased a few months ago. In the last month, the wireless connection has been dropping like mad ! And more recently, when it drops, it says it can't find any wireless networks. I then have to perform a hard shut off (by holding the power button till it powers down) and wait a few minutes to turn it back on. I have uninstalled the wireless adapter and then reinstalled it and that didn't work either. Also, all the drivers are up to date. I am very frustrated at this point and don't know what to do. Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks !!

Answer:Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 problem

It is always a VERY good idea to check the microfilters (if using ADSL) which are fitted into your phone sockets and make certain that you have microfilters in any socket in the house. Microfilters are very cheap to get hold of and its worth having a few spare.

Try the following:-

-Make sure that the hardware switch on the left is turned on (although I guess it already is since your Bluetooth is working).
-Press Fn-F5 -> Radio on the wifi.
-Go in the BIOS -> Config -> Network -> make sure internal wireless is turned on.
-Reinstall the wifi driver:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70476

I have an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN and it keeps crashing my laptop. I would be working and my screen would freeze randomly and my computer would remain unresponsive. This only happens when I turn on my laptop's wireless card and put it to use.

I tried multiple drivers but the newer ones froze my computer faster. I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and it still does the same.

Uninstalling the driver and rebooting while letting Windows install a default driver yields the same results.

Much help needed!

Hi,

I believe the SIM card slot is in the battery bay.  Remove the battery to access.

That Intel 5100 is a wifi card, not a wwan card.  Do you also have a wwan card installed, or is that what you are asking about?

Information on both (SIM and wwan card installation) is in the hardware maintenance manual: Hardware Maintenance Manual - T400 & R400

I stil use very old Toshiba A350D. Notebook works fine with Office, internet browsing and other light task.
But last days i notice a problem with wifi connection. Well, the card constantly switches off automatically. I use Intel Wifi ProSET tool and Windows 7 system tools.
Windows 7 indicator shown no avilable connections and ProSET indicator shown wifi disabled and ask for turn on wifi with hardware switcher, when hardware switcher (mechanical slider with LED on front) is in the 'on' position and LED flashes.
When this happens, the wifi card is still detected in the Windows device manager. I reinstalled all drivers, but this didn't fix the problem.
The card can be switched on and off several times per minute, but most often when the card is turned off it is hard to activate it again.
Fn + F8 works well, if WiFi Link works properly himself.
Is there still someone who remembers this model and met with such behavior?

I have a Gateway FX series 17" laptop and yesterday when I got home from university and took the computer out of my bag to start working, the wireless card just didnt exist, no networks were recognized and when i tried to troubleshoot it told me that no device was connected. Wired internet works just fine. And the wireless card appears in the device manager.

methods i have tried to no avail:
-turning the wireless switch on and off
-uninstalling the device and rebooting
-updating drivers
-manually downloading driver from Intel's website
-insulting the device's mother

I'm suspecting this might be a hardware issue but if anyone has some advice that would be great. For the time being I am just using a wired connection but I'm going to need the wireless when I'm. back in class

Hi,

I just bought a Sony Vaio with Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 Network Adapter.

I primarily use the notebook at my home & office network.
Home Network Router: Linksys WRT54G
Office Network Router: Beetel 450BXi (ADSL2+Modem)

The issue am facing is while am on to the network (mostly home network) suddenly it goes into limited connectivity & gets disconnected; while other PC's remain connected.

And then you have to either re-install the Wireless LAN driver or re-start numerous times.

This has been happening regularly. Pls assist in resolving the issue.

This is a new machine (to me). It is a T-500 2242CTO with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN card and a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit.  I successfully VPN using Ethernet from this machine and wirelessly from other machines in my home network.  However, wireless VPN connectivity from this machine fails 100% of the time.  Current drivers and updates are installed.  I am using the Windows VPN client and receive the following message: Error 800: The remote connection was not made because the attempted VPN tunnels failed.  I turned on logging and found no useful information, to me, in the mounds of data generated.  I've also un-installed the wireless driver, re-installed it, un-installed Lenovo Access Connections and the same error continues.  Has anyone encountered this issue or have suggested fixes?

Hi: You may be able to get the card to work if you fiddle with some of the advanced settings on the advanced tab for the card in the device manager. I have 3 HP business notebooks...one has the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3965ABG card, one has the Intel Intel WiFi Link 4965AG card, one has the Intel WiFi Link 5300 wireless card. The first two I didn't have to do anything to make them work. The 5300...device is present in the device manager saw wireless networks but would not connect when I clicked connect. I went into the advanced settings tab and I think I enabled WMM and the card works just fine and has so ever since. Try tweaking one of the settings in the advanced settings tab. I wish I remembered exactly which setting I changed that made it connect. I was ticked off, so I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. Could not understand why two older cards worked perfectly and the newer one wouldn't. Changing the wireless card would be extremely problematic as you are limited to just the cards listed in the service manual and half the time the ones listed in the manual cause the notebook not to boot up until the card is removed. Also, if you can't get the Intel 5100 to work, you can forget any of the others listed working on W10. I am very sure that changing one of those advanced settings will allow the 5100 card to work.

This has been happening for the past three days. I just recently bought a laptop, the Toshiba Satellite A305-S6898, with Intel? WiFi Link 5100.

I would be just surfing on the internet and then the WiFi link would randomly just stop working. I would go to the available connections window, and the network i'm connected to would say 'Connected with limited connectivity', and then it would disconnect and then it would not be able to detect any networks, even though it previously did before. I know it's not a network problem because the same problem occured on two different networks I have set up in two different places. The device manager does not report anything wrong with it, and I did not randomly turn off the wifi for any reason. I would have to reset my laptop in order to fix the problem.

Then I wonder if Lenovo 3000 N500 4233 series supports N network with the following network card Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.When I linked up with Rauter with N, so I got a speed of about 65 Mbps, but far away from thespeed of 100-130 Mbit/s +.I have spoken to Lenovo and received a reply to update drivers on all that goes too uppdate and see if it works. If I do not find them at Lenovo, I would go to Intel and Microsoft homepage to see if there were any new drivers.Slowly and soil, I made it and found newer drivers for the network card but to no avail.I spoke with Lenovo again and got the answer that it could not do more because the card was 65 Mbps, which is certain to N working. In other words, nothing is broken can not be repaired, even if it onlyperforms 1/4 of what it should be!I was still unhappy, I could go back to the medamarkt and return the machine.I wonder how somone can say something like that when intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNshall work up to 300 Mbps while It can't get more then 65 Mbits/s.For if I have 65 then I am on N linkage because the G only goes up to 54 Mbit/s.The most strange is that not only was the serier of Lenovo 3000 N500, having problems with Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNnot performing as it should. The answer I got was to either leave or wait until someone will solve the problem (Lenovo,Intel or Microsoft).Plus I have age machinery that works good in 130 Mbits/s without problems while a new can not?Strange thinking about this.So what do you do?Someone who knows ... Hey guys firstly thanks for taking the time to read my thread.

Recently completed a custom install of Windows 7 64bit version. Have installed all the Windows updates and drivers from HP.

My wireless adapter will connect to my network with static ip address set manually but the 'automatically detect settings' option will not work and I receive the message "Unidentified Network" in the task bar.

Any help will be appreciated.

**SOLUTION**

1. Reset router and apply settings again. (**Remember to write down any user names and passwords used for your ISP**)

2. Use WPA2-PSK security rather than WPA

3. Connect to network using network password

We're in hospital, she's I'll, I am 24/7 carer.

My Vostro 1720 connects promptly at home, WiFi or LAN.

Hospital has public use WiFi provided on each floor. Transmitter has TP-Link on the cover and twin aerials.

The Vostro can see transmitters for 4 floors, the signals come & go and, regularly disappear.

2 iPads & an iPhone stay connected unless, the signal disappears, in the same room. Signals are described as excellent or good.

The Vostro when I bring it in, after using at home, connects automatically. Twice has reached the stage when all 3 links I can see with a decent signal, can't connect, sometimes get asked for the password, run trouble shooter multiple times with no success. First time internet connection worked for 2 days, 2nd time for an hour, then couldn't log on to any link.

I'm puzzled why the Vostro doesn't hold the connection and the IOS devices do.

Public holiday over in a couple of days and I plan to catch the lady chief of the hospital and the IT manager.

I would be most grateful for queries, comments or, references to help in these encounters.

Thank you and regards

I have tried updating the driver several times.  I am at the most recent version of the driver, 13.3.0.24, and it is still not present as an option.  All I see is EAP-MSCHAPv2 and SmartCard or other certficate.  I do not have any of the Intel ProSet or ThinkAdvantage apps to manage wireless.  I tried to get rid of the vendor cruft.  Was that a mistake?

We have fairly new HP DV7T laptops, with the internal Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN card..

We have been through 3 access points at this point, i just now confirmed that i dont think our issue is access point related, at least not the type etc...

Frequently these laptops will suddenly not find ANY networks (wireless ones) to connect to..

Other laptops (dell, asus, iphones) still work fine during these periods.

I've tried playing with configuration settings on the nic itself with no luck.

Currently we have a Dlink Dap-2553 access point.. set to the 2.4ghz mode (since we still have devices that need 2.4ghz)..

I'm not sure what to do to prevent this from happening, short of using express cards, which we dont want to do..

Anyone else ran into this?

Thanks

I have had a Linksys BEFW11S4 Version 4 Wireless router for quite some time.  It works like a champ and I have one Laptop wired to it and a second using Wireless working just fine.  Recently, I received a new ThinkPad W500 Laptop with an Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN wireless network adapter.  The older laptop (ThinkPad T60p) that works just fine with the router uses a11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter by Atheros.  However, the NEW laptop (the W500) with the Intel Adapter fails to connect to the Router.  It will either indicate a failure while "Waiting for Association" or it will indicate a failure when waiting to "renew IP Address".  Sometimes, it will show a signal strength close to ZERO (Even as the older laptop with the other adapter is showing a signal strength close to 100%) When I called Linksys support, I was told that the facts that the Router (a) works find with the wired Laptop and (b) works fine with the 11a/b/g NEtwork Adapter and (c) works fine when WIRED to the new laptop all indicate that the problem is NOT with the router at all -- but with the Network Adapter.  Can anyone tell me what has to be adjusted in the Adapter settings?  Right now, I am using IBM Access Connections for BOTH of the wireless laptops.  I have made sure to set IDENTICAL values for SSID and WEP (128-bit) [static] password.  I have also ensured that all OTHER settings are the same for the two laptops.  Yet, in... Question: R400 wifi card

I just purchased and installed an IBM Atheros Ar5bhb63 mini pci wifi card for my R400. The internet had stopped working so I was hoping the new card would get things working again. The problem is the pc locks up on startup and tells me to remove the "unauthorized mini pci card and restart".I removed the card and installed the latest bios hoping that would do the trick. Then I reinstalled the card but it immediatly displayed the error message again. What am I doing wrong?

Answer:R400 wifi card

I have this vague recollection that the refusal of your R400 to accept any slightly different internal WiFi card is built into the firmware or hardware of the R400 by Lenovo, and that there (at the time I read this) was no way to get around this.  That is, you either use the exact piece of hardware specified by the design of your R400, or you must do without an internal WiFi card.    Since good quality USB Wifi adapters are widely available for as little as $5 in the USA, this shouldn't be a major problem.    I would simply switch to using one of these, if I were you.

Recently, my Intel Wifi 5100 has stopped working on windows. For no appearant reason, Windows decided that my Wifi card is not good enough to be read. When i open my Device Manager, my Ethernet port shows up, but the Wifi card does not. The wierd part is that the Wifi card gets read in "Splashtop" which came on my laptop. I can use Wifi on the Linux bases OS, but not windows. I've tried installing all drivers, but Windows refuses to acknowledge the presence of my card. Any clue on how to fix this?

Answer:Serious Intel Wifi 5100 problem

Hey, welcome to Vista Forums!
Assuming the wireless card is removable, you could try re-seating the wireless card, also, you could take the card out, and boot, then shut down, and put the card back in, then boot and see if it made any difference.

If it's not removable, check to make sure any wireless switches are turned on.

Please post back with what you have tried, or even if you managed to fix the problem and how!
Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hello! I have a R500 Series ThinkPad with the Intel 5100 AGN WiFi adapter. The driver for the card has been updated as of today (September 7, 2010). I have a D-Link DIR 655 WiFi router (replacing an old Linksys 54g WiFi router). The firmware of the router has also been updated today. I'm running the router under the WPA-2 standard with AES cipher type, channel width of 40 Mhz on 802.11n mode only with auto channel scan (just as Intel is recommanding). I also followed Intel indications for the WiFi card. Problem is : the laptop just can't connect to the WiFi network...? I tried all sort of things, but to no avail. Can anyone help? Note that when I tried  to use the router under WPA with TKIP and AES as cipher type, the laptop was able to connect at the slow 54 Mbps rate. Thanks.

Hello, I have a connection speed problem, I'm not able to use the full 300Mbit bandwith provided by my D-link DIR8. The maximum speed I get is 130Mbit.D-link said to me that my Wlan card must support the 40Mhz channel width to work at this speed. I already updated the FW to the last one [12.2.*] and I setted up the channel width to auto but still don't work...Does the card support that speed??? You have any suggestion?? Thank you in advance!!Message Edited by impy on 04-04-2009 03:31 AM

I have a Sony Vaio with intel 5100 AGN wireless adapter & Vista OS.

The problem I have is that 9 times out of 10 it will not connect to my home or office wireless network. Eventually it does, though only after switching the adapter on and off several times or rebooting the machine. Sometimes I also have to restart the wireless router.

It will always seem to connect in that I get the connected icon in the notification area (though often without the internet globe symbol) though it will not connect to the net or to any other machine or printer on the network.

Some other useful info:
Both the home and office routers are the same model (Comtrend) and both work fine with other PC's

I often have bluetooth problems also - can take a while for bluetooth to start (I use a bluetooth mouse) and I have 3 unknown bluetooth peripheral devices in device manager

I have McAfee internet security installed

I have tried:
Disabling the firewall
Removing and readding the wireless and bluetooth devices
Disabling IPv6
Driver & OS update
A clean install

Nothing has resoved this issue which is becoming a pain as I can now spend up to half an hour each time trying to connect.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Answer:Wifi connectivity with intel 5100 AGN

Hi -

The Intel 5100 is one of the best wifi's available. I have one in this system and it performs flawlessly.

I think you'll find McAfee to be the problem here. I suggest that you remove it. Download the McAfee Removal Tool (MRT) to your desktop. RIGHT-click on the MRT icon, select "Run as Admin". When it finishes, re-boot.

MRT - http://download.mcafee.com/products/...tches/MCPR.exe

Then reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply, OK

Use AVG for a/v if you wish - http://free.avg.com/download-avg-ant...s-free-edition

Make sure that you have the most recent Intel 5100 wifi driver. Go to Intel's site -

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Prod...ProductID=3062

You can check your system manufacturer's site, but I have found they are ususlly 8-12 months behind.

I purchased a T400 (which I LOVE so far) but like a fool, didn't opt for the 5300 3x3 WiFi for $15 more... after some post purchase research, I'd much rather have the extra antennae's for picking up those barely in wifi signals around my house.   Does anyone know if the 5300 card can simply be plugged in to replace the 5100?  It all comes down to whether the 3 antennae's are installed on ALL models, with the connectors ununsed when a laptop comes with the 5100.  Anyone know the answer to this? Regards,-Owen

My computer is running on Windows 7 Professional 32bit. It has worked fine for the last 2 years. But recently, my wifi card has started me giving me problems. It detects the wireless networks but connects to them only for around 10-15 minutes after which the connection is not even visible in the list. Then after 30-40 minutes, it can connect but the same problem is there.

Also, I tried to make my own ad-hoc connections and saved them. These connections do work and my friends are able to connect to it and the connection remained active for hours. I did it to check whether the Wifi card is working or not. It does work but only with the outgoing connections that are made by my computer. The networks that in range and are giving problem with my wifi card are working fine for my friends. So, I guess it is not the network's problem.

When I tried troubleshooting it, it gave the problem 'Problem with wireless adapter or access point'. I also tried installing all different driver versions and rollbacking to the default version for my wireless card but the same problem is there. Although in device manager, It says the device is working properly.

Please help me in solving this problem. Exact name of WiFi Card in Device Manager- Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN

The same complaints and problems with this 5100AGN adaptor has been around for a long time.

There are countless threads about this on the internet. It seems that disabling the 802.11n Only setting in the routers settings and running in mixed wireless mode can help. Updating the drivers can also help, try the Intel site. > Intel? Driver Update Utility

There are plenty of long threads about this ongoing problem with some possible solutions, so your not alone.

The speed is about 130Mbps insted of 300Mbps, but in Vista it was working at 300Mbps.

i slapped on vista ultimate 32, the intel 5100 will be in device manager without any problems.  the only for me to get the blue led to light up again is to do a uninstall in device manager and reboot.  vista will then detect new hardware and reintall the wifi all over again.  this does work but to do it every week suck.  i dont want to buy a new internal or external card either.  this happen to anyone else?

Answer:Y430 intel 5100, blue wifi led doesn't come on. Not fn + f5 problem either.

To clarify, the wireless works, but the blue LED doesn't and the fix you described only temporarily fixes it?  Have you installed all the other drivers as well; the ones located on the d:/ drive?

Hello. We are receiving T400 laptops.  These laptops do not hold a wireless connection for any length of time.  They also have a hard time connecting at boot up.  Item that have been tried...01) Removed and re-installed Drivers.02) Removed and reinstalled Access Connections. (Leap Authorization is used)03) Removed and replaced the Wireless Card. FRU 43Y6943. We are using Windows Xp with SP 2.  The laptop runs fine and we have no complaints with the exception of the wireless.  I might mention that we had the same issue with T61 Models.  To resolve this issue, we removed the B/G/N card and installed B/G cards.  We do not utilize "N" Band, so we do not need this capability.  I was looking for a way to do the same to the T400 Laptops, but I am unable to find a compatible B/G card to use.  The BIOS generates the 1082 error if we attempt to use a card that is not approved for the model.  Any assistance would be appreciated... Thanks. Have you installed the latest drivers from Intel? The drivers provided by Lenovo, in most cases, may not be the latest ones.

Dear all,  About 2 years ago i upgraded my win 7 to win 10 version and wirelss stopped working. this problem is well known. Many attempts with netsh id config, reset IP, reinstall drivers, trough a USB whatever, nothing worked. I must conclude that the intel WIFI 5100 driver is incompatible with windows 10. I cannot anymore revert my win 10 upgrade sadly.  My question is whether i can install an older version or another driver type that is compatible on windows 10 ??? if so i would gladly have the driver link or zip file posted  Thanks PS, also my touchpad scrolling feature stopped working, i dont know if this could be related, just in case it could help figuring out where the problem is but i guess its just incompatibility.

Hello everyone,

It is my first thread on this forum and I want to thank you because you indirectly help me so many times.

I just installed new bios 1.25 on my notebook because of usb issues. Everything works fine but suddenly my wifi device stops working on windows 7.
It is well installed, the connection under Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections is enabled, but It doesn't see any WiFi spot.

It is not a device hardware problem because it works under ubuntu.

I tried all the usual ways: reinstall drivers etc but nothing happens.

I don't want to reinstall my OS because I'll have too many settings to restore after.

Is there anyone experiencing the same problem? Anyone who fixed it?

Hello folks. I have an X61T (7764-CTO) in which the wireless card seems to be failing intermittently. I'd like to replace it with a more modern one, preferably of the 5100, 5300, or 5350 variety. Are there any card w/ these chipsets that are known to work in the X61T? The only card that the Support page lists for this machine is the "ThinkPad abg wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter", FRU 41A4071.  Thanks,Andrew

Acer Aspire 5930g laptop with Intel 5100 WiFi adapter. Been testing Win 10 Tech Preview, switched off WiFi via built-in system switch and since than it completely disappeared from the laptop. Which means when I press WiFi button on the laptop there's no light, the adapter itself is missing from the system ? even in hidden devices. But all the other buttons (Bluetooth, browser) work well. I've tried switching back to Win7, running WinXP from LiveCD, various Linux distribs ? no result. Tried other adapters (all of them Intel), it didn't help. Actually the system found Intel WiFi/WiMAX, but only WiMAX drivers were installed. Tried flashing BIOS, also didn't help. Been advised to install native ACPI utility with hardware buttons drivers. While trying to find it I stumbled upon a software called Acer Drivers Update Utility. It's a third-party software which scans devices and proposes to download driver updates for them. For some money.Yet while scanning it found the card (at least, listed it among devices). When I was scanning the laptop was connected via LAN, and after scanning Windows notificated about installing some bridge and PCI drivers. The button was working, and so was the WiFi card. The next day, when I opened my laptop (as far as I remember, I didn't switch it off then), WiFi disappeared again. I've tried reinstalling the system and repeat the "magic" with Update Utilty, but failed. Of course, I've tried force-installing the driver... Read more

Hi there.
Over the weekend I picked up a set of TP Link WPA4220 Powerline (with Wifi) Extenders and a pair of TL PA-411 wired extenders.
This should give me wired extenders in 3 rooms and a wifi boost in one of those rooms. The wired system all works fine but the wifi is a different matter.
The wifi extender is paired to the same SSID as my main Sky router and I can see both devices working properly, however there is absolutely no performance improvement in the room(s) which previously had patchy wifi and now have the wifi extender in. It's like the extender is having no impact at all.
Wifi quality on my Galaxy Note 2 and wife's Iphone 4s have not improved with the addition of the wifi extender.
The internet on the xbox360 in my son's room was sketchy on wifi without the extender, and there was no improvement with the wifi extender switched on, so I have hardwired this now.
I tested the kit with some speed tests around the house via speedtest.net, using both wired and wireless on a laptop and wireless on my phone, and all speeds and pings are almost identical with the TP Link wifi extender switched on or off.
I then used an Android app called Wifi Analyzer which can see the main router and TP Link extender and reports on both.
The Sky router signal sits at -40db ("excellent") when next to it, dropping to -60 ("medium") when in the bedroom with patchy wifi (and the extender in it).
The TP Link wifi signal is sat at -60 (+/-3) all the time in the bedroom an... Read more

Answer:TP Link Powerline with Wifi - No Wifi performance boost...?

It sounds like you are still connecting to your router rather than the extender.
I have a range extender and the SSID is the same as the router but with _EXT tagged on the end so in order to connect a device to it I have to go into windows networking and attach to the extender otherwise it will automatically attach to the router as in the past but I guess you have already tried this.

Hi

The user guide doesn't spell out the differences between the S5100-201 and S5100-603 models.
I can work out they are different speeds, memory and hard disk size but what about the internal bits?

I have a broken -603 model with a power control fault. Does anyone know if the systemboard from a -201 model will fit into the -603 unit?

Thanks
Pete

Answer:Differences between Satellite 5100-201 & 5100-603

Hello

I am not technician but I have found info that those units have different graphic card and both can not handle with max RAM.

Satellite 5100-201:
- nVidia GeForce4 440Go 32 MB
- can handle with max 512 MB RAM

Satellite 5100-603:
- nVidia GeForce4 440Go 64 MB
- can handle with max 1024 MB RAM

I am not 100% sure but if you exchange the whole Mb with all hardware components I believe that other peripheral devices should work well but I don?t know how it will work with BIOS. Maybe the DMI must be rewritten.

On this forum there are few guys with very good knowledge and I hope some of them will post here and say more about that.

Question: Wifi link speed

Hello, I have an X200 laptop, and I'm making voip calls.Sometimes I have a very bad conversation quality, even that I'm connected to the WIFI with 5 bars and there is a very good internet bandwidth. The strange thing is that when the link speed is constant (for example 2 Mbps or 54Mbps), the conversatin quality is very good. But when it changes on the scale from 1mbps to 54mbps every 5 seconds, the call quality is poor.It happens at my house and also in cafes. Why does the link speed changes when I have 5 bars?Is it possible to solve it? Thank you very much,I'll be glad if someone can help me, because I'm talking over my SIP application every day and I wish that the call quality will always be good. Mark.

Answer:Wifi link speed

> Why does the link speed changes when I have 5 bars?

Basically you may have a strong signal indication, but there may be a lot of contention for the use of the radio band that the signal is in.

WiFi uses a shared medium.  Achieveable data throughput will vary with the number of other users concurrently accessing any access point in the vicinity, and will also vary if there are other devices want to use the Wi Fi channel space.  WiFi operates on what is effectively unlicenced wireless spectrum, so you can be contending with a range of other non-WiFi devices in the same wireless spectrum.

Cheers,

Bill

Question: WiFi Link 4965AGN

I have Computer w/ 3 operating systems on it, Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows 7 RC, and Windows XP Professional. Windows Vista was the original operating system but I downgraded due to software conflicts at the time. I hardly use Vista anymore because its too slow on my laptop, I use Windows XP and Windows 7RC.... ANYHOW....

I have a 7.1 mbps internet connection that I connect through over wireless G. My network card is the Intel? Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN. I have a Linksys WRT54gs2 router with secured WI-FI & mac address. When I connect to the internet using Windows XP OS, I download no faster than 80KB/s on rapidshare, or 150kb/s on the Microsoft server. When I use Windows 7 or Windows Vista, I download at 800kb/s on the same wifi connection. Therefore my questions is: WHY DO I DOWNLOAD SLOWER ON XP? I have my wireless card driver updated on all operated systems.

Hi guys, I have the following symptoms with a TP-LINK router (TL-WDR3600) connected to a modem-router.

- Wired internet works fine
- Wifi signal ok, but not as stable as it should be
- NO internet via wifi, unless I remove the wifi security
- Removing and restoring the wifi security gave me back internet access, for only a while though.

All tested with pc, tablet and phone.
Any clues to what might be the problem?

I have just recently installed a D-link 614+ router. I want to connect to it trough WIFI with my IBM T30, however I have a problem. The network would periodically go down for a second and that come back up. It happens every 2 minutes or so. Can anyone suggest a way to solve this. I have upgraded the firmware on the router and gone through all support material on D-link site, but I can't find anything.

For extra information I want to add that I have a neighbor who has a WIFI installed also and he broadcasts his SSID. Maybe this can be a cause.

Hello!

I need to make a 50m WIFI link and I have a tree top in the way. Is it still possible to make a link?

As far as hardware goes, I was looking at
Ubiquiti :: AirMax Airgrid M2 16dBi High Power or
Ubiquiti :: AirMax Airgrid M2 20dBi High Power or
Ubiquiti :: AirMax NanoBridge M2 18dBi

Do you think that would do?
Anyone have similar link online?
Do you know, if I can pass VLAN trunk over these devices?

Answer:50m WIFI link with one tree in the way

Get two extra small directional antennas and connect with a short wire. Install one on either side of the tree.

Yes, it'll work. Robert X. Cringely did at his old house years ago to share a neighbors DSL line.

I just thought I would write a little something for the people on this forum struggling with Wi-Fi range issues. I solved mine after many problems using a couple of high-wattage items from wifi-link.com.

Here is my situation:
I live in a rural area serviced by Charter cable. I have the 10Mb down / 1Mb up service (which has been working great for me, btw). The problem came when my sister moved a couple of streets away from me. She just separated from her husband and they have yet to work out the alimony/child support issues, so she is kinda light on money right now. Unfortunately, her children "attend" the ONLINE middle / high school. Obviously she requires high-speed internet access, but would have a hard time affording the cost. So, being the loving brother that I am, I told her, "Hey, don't worry about it, I'll hook you up to my network and you can share my connection." She said, "Can you do that? I live too far away to string a cable across the neighborhood." I assured her I could do it using Wi-Fi. I then started making my own YAGI potato chip can antennas. I am an experienced A+-certified technician, so I figured it would be no big deal. Well, long story short, my antennas sucked. NO SIGNAL. I must have aimed and re-aimed the things for hours. I started to worry that I had bitten off more than I could chew. I did NOT want to tell my sister that I had failed. So I went looking on the web for some cheap antennas... Read more

Answer:WiFi link. Signal weak

firstly has you neighbour given permission for you to pig-e-back on his broadband - it is illegal if he has not. If permission is granted you will have to experiment with position. In my home certain rooms have no trouble connecting but others cannot. Where his wireless router is poitioned will also make a difference. The higher the transmitter the better the signal. If he uses wifi could he move it to the closest point to your place?

Hi everyon! Happy New Year. I received a new T400s at last week.OS is Windows 7 and my wireless LAN card is Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN. It doesen't works well.It happens to disconnect network 5 ~ 10 minutes interval. I have two another notebook. They have no problems. What is the problem? What do I do?

Answer:About Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN

I'm having the same problem with my T500 (same wireless adapter, Intel 5300 AGN) since upgrading from Vista Business to Win 7 Professional.  I had no problems with wireless connectivity under Vista.  From what I can tell, this seems to be a problem with the 5300 adapter running under Win 7 on the T400/500 platforms.  I've tried everything, and I haven't been able to find a resolution on this forum up to this point.  I believe this is a problem Lenovo owes its customers a solution for.

Hey everyone! I'm new here. Currently have an apple router and have had it for maybe 6-7years. I think it is finally on its last leg. It has become unreliable at times.

The question I have is about the TP-link c7 wifi router. I have a 2 story house that's around 1600sf. The wife and I are constantly online and we also use playstation vue. So that takes up a lot of bandwidth. Would the TP-link c7 be the right router for us?

Thanks for your help!

Answer:Reviews on TP-link c7 wifi router

did the apple router work throughout the house ok
if so , you may want to think about an Apple replacement

its going to be difficult to say if it will work reliably and with high speed across the 2 stories, as the construction of the property and also other signals in the area can all cause interference.

Something else to consider , is the powerline adapters with wireless and cable units
This uses the electrical wiring of the house - again the quality and speed would depend on the electrical wiring of the house

I would like to begin by thanking you for your help (please help me). I am trying to set up my family with wireless internet, but my parents are technophobes and I'm kind of on my own with this and the antivirus.
But I digress.
I have a secondhand Dlink DI-524 wireless router and have connected it to my modem with and ethernet cable, and have connected the router to my PC.
When I try to connect to 192.168.0.1 as is stated in my manual, it used to pop up with a password screen and when I tried to enter in the default and hit enter, it just popped up again. After resetting, firefox just says it can't display the page.
When I connect to the network on my PC and laptop, it has an excellent connection yet won't connect to the internet.
If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

That TP Link has almost 800 reviews on Amazon and it's almost all four star reviews. The cost of consumer wireless devises has become very affordable. I use those little $5 USB wifi dongles on my Raspberry Pi's and they work great. The box I'm on now has a low cost NetGear USB dongle and the speed and reliability is great. I'd buy it.

Hi there guys,it's my first post on this forum even although I should've asked here first. I have the same problem with the network wifi adapter as mentioned in the previous thread with this subject: it happens to disconnect and after that it doesn't appear in Device Manager for some time. Ussually I go there 'scan for hardware changes' and it appears back, but sometimes it doesn't come back for good and I need to restart my laptop. So..this is quite sad. I've read all the opinions about this and all solutions so far and nothing worked for me. I checked my driver on Intel and it says: Product DetectedIntel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGNCurrent Driver Installed14.3.2.1This device is unknown or unsupported. Please contact the manufacturer for possible updates. So I downloaded their newer driver which is 15.3 and still the driver version remains 14.3.  This is becoming quite annoying becouse it happens to disconnect right when I am downloading or writing an email.        Did someone from tech support found a solution for this? please! I would appreciate a lot. Thank you. p.s. I am running win8 pro.

Answer:About Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN

I suspect there are variants of the Intel 5300 card that will work in Lenovo systems, and other versions of the card that are designed for other systems (like HP, etc) and will not work in a Lenovo. It's possible that the 5300 card you have wasn't designed for Lenovo platforms, and as a result doesn't match up with the bios whitelist on your system. Did the system originally come with this card, or was the card installed sometime later? If installed later, was the card supposedly compatible with Lenovo systems (incl your model)? I picked up my new 5300 card from eBay sometime back... it was listed as compatible with my Lenovo T400 (incl a few other models), and once I installed it (and installed the driver, updated access connections, rebooted the system etc), it came right up at 450mbps when near the access-point. Finally, the 15.x (I'm assuming Lenovo) driver might not support this older 5300 card... my T400 is running a 14.x driver for Win7 64-bit which does support the 5300, but I noticed the 15.x driver for my system doesn't support the older 5300 (and states that in the release notes for this ver). That's all I can come up with for now... hope something here helps you out. And keep me posted... will check this thread from time to time. Mike

I have the WiFi LINK for PS3/PSP/NDSL/Wii. I am trying to connect my Wii to the internet thru my computer. The Wii will connect to the WiFi Link but the WiFi Link will not connect to the internet even though my computer is connected to the internet. I believe the problem is my PPPoE connection. I have DSL thru ATT and I am using their Westell Wirespeed DSL modem.

I have followed all the directions provided at http://www.mayflash.com/pc/pc041/001.htm and it still will not connect. My computer is running Windows XP professional and it connects to the internet by using the SBC Connection Manager. How do I get this to work?

Answer:Wifi not working with TP-LINK router

For a computer running Windows please show the following for a connection to the ethernet jack in your room and for a connection to the router ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I'm looking to connect roughly 2 miles with a rough 5-degree coverage angle. I've decided that this

http://www.hyperlinktech.com/web/hg2424g.php

antenna is probably the best (that I've seen for a reasonable price). What is the best card/adapter for PCI application in a desktop? Orinico with a PCI adapter or has something better come along?

Answer:Best WiFi B/G Solution for a 2-Mile+ Link?

Those with some orinoco cards should work great. That's what the local Wireless ISP here where I live use for there backbone wireless connection. They have had up to 2 inches of ice build up on the antennas and still had good enough signal to support the backbone.

I have set up a passcode for my sisters wifi as it was not enabled by the tech that set up her D Link/wifi.

I couldn't believe that wasn't taken care of but I am not that wise about all aspects, so thought I would ask someone here.

I renamed her SSID to a private name rather then dlink, the way it was, and I set up a passcode so others that want to use their computer here at her place will need to login using that key. I figured her neighbors could bleed off her signal, but even if they aren't doing that, it seems to me securing your signal is best. Am I right?

My second question to do with that, is, I set it up on my computer because I was on her signal of course, but she was on her computer, which she said she was going to be off it, and I didn't know. Her connection is still on and she hasn't used the passcode yet? Do I have to set up her computer with the same info as I did on the router from my laptop?

Sorry if this sounds confused, I am a bit. denise

Answer:D Link Wifi Security Pass Key

You're headed down the right path. You are correct in your thinking with regard to changing the SSID name and setting up a passcode in the router.

And, yes, the passcode will have to be saved in her computer before it can connect to the Internet.

I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to Networking but here goes.

I've got a D-Link DSL-604+ 22Mbps Wireless router with built-in ADSL modem and a D-Link DI-624 108Mbps Wireless Broadband router.

Obviously the DI-624 that I recently purchased doesn't feature an in-built modem so instead of blowing $50 on a D-Link ADSL modem with Ethernet connectivity I was hoping to use the ADSL modem feature in my old Wireless router (604+) as my modem for the DI-624.

I called D-Link support but unfortunately after an hour of following live instructions from their support staff, I ended up nowhere.

They instructed me to disable DHCP and NAT features on the 604+ and plug an ethernet cable into it's LAN PORT 1 and plug the other end into the WAN PORT on the 624.

I plugged an ethernet cable into the DI-624 LAN PORT 1 and into my computer's Ethernet port in order to configure the DI-624.

After configuring the DI-624 via its web configuration web page, I could get the 108Mbps network up and running but without the access to DSL.

If anyone any of the above mentioned products and can provide a tip or a link to a guide or something, that would be great.

Thanks

Hello. Your recently posted WIFI combo driver for this product WILL NOT INSTALL on Windows 7 32-bit. It's the one labeled "Intel,Atheros,Broadcom." The file that is downloaded is only 15.5 MB and not 61.5 MB like it says. My version of the S10-3T has the broadcom driver and now my bt+wifi won't install! Here is the link >>>> http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_show_3643.html My computer needs the driver for the Broadcom BCM4313, 14e4:4727. I believe the download link is actually pointing to the >> http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_show_2332.html  This file is 15.5 MB I need the Broadcom Windows 7 32-bit driver please.
