Design decisions, Ideapad firmware on SL series?

Question: Design decisions, Ideapad firmware on SL series?

Just curious, it doesn't really affect my life in any way. Except, of course, I would like better support from lenovo for open-source linux efforts. I am interested in feedback from the designers as I'm interested in business and engineering and that sort of thing. Thinkwiki reports that the sl series has an ideapad firmware, which explains why thinkpad_acpi in linux doesn't work right and various other things like shock protection. So, I guess it's similar to an Ideapad U330? They share the same intel chipset. http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/CategoryL300 and...http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=68882&sid=69c068595f0d142f96bfb9faa6bb2d8f If this is true, why does lenovo need two firmware codebases for the same chipset (T series also uses GM45), and why did they borrow from the ideapad line instead of other thinkpads to develop the firmware for sl-series? Interesting, no? Isn't it extra cost? Or do they have competing BIOS developers working for them? Also, will this affect thinkpad lines in the future? if this is top-secret or something, I understand. P.S. I really like my SL300, and I'm comfortable thinking that it's a Thinkpad, but I can see where some people differ on that. I don't want to have that argument. Preferred Solution: Design decisions, Ideapad firmware on SL series?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Do you know how many apps access your personal information on Facebook? Check your Facebook apps permissions and get ready for a surprise.

In fact, Facebook keeps ?improving? their design so that more of us will add apps on Facebook without realizing we?re granting those apps (and their creators) access to our personal information. After all, this access to our information and identity is the currency Facebook is trading in and what is driving its stock up or down.

Hello, I just have a few small questions regarding an external hard drive i am planning on making up.

I am off to uni next year, and was told at the interview that I would need an external hard drive for editing off so we are able to move from suite to suite without to much trouble, and so there is less of a strain on there computer hard drives. Thy use a firewire connection for the computers there (I believe they have 800 at least on some of the systems) and on my laptop I would be using the esata port, then to make things a little more fun it would be useful to have usb2 on there also, as there are enough systems out there that only have this connection.

So i no what ports i need, and i know i want a 7200rpm drive as i will be editing straight from it (although my laptop is only 5400) and i think i have found a case that would work. But then from there is where i am stuck. Here are my questions:

Should i go for 2.5" or 3.5"? I would prefer 2.5" so its more portable, and i would only be editing from my laptop when it is plugged in, but the question is weather or not the 2.5" would have enough power? Would this depend on the hardrive?

Secondly, and most importantly, what hard drive should i get?, or at least, what other aspects of the hard drive would be important in this situation.
Do i need to look at power consumption?
Would the cache be important if i am editing straignt from the drive?
Do i really need 7200rpm or is this just going to make it har... Read more

So I am part of the Insider Program. My Win10 is on a separate partition so I can dual-boot Win7 and 10. I'm sure my Win10 will be able to upgrade right at midnight, but I did reserve an upgrade for Win7. Should I just erase the Win 7 partition and start from scratch with the Win10 and redownloading and restoring applications and files. Or just wait for my Win 7 upgrade, risk waiting days, maybe weeks, but have all my files and settings transferred automatically, and just delete the Win10 Insider partition? What would you do?

Answer:How should I Upgrade to Win10? Decisions, decisions....Advice accepted.

According to this article, since you did not upgraded your Windows 7 to Windows 10, that 10 installation will not be genuine.
Here's the exact quote:
If you installed any of the Windows 10 Previews on a computer running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 as an upgrade, you'll be able to upgrade to the final release of Windows 10 and the operating system will stay fully activated.
If you've performed a clean installation of Windows 10 Preview, you'll have to roll back to your previous version, before upgrading to the final version of Windows 10 and have the operating system fully activated.

In order to upgrade your Windows 7 license to Windows 10, you have to upgrade from Windows 7. So I think you'd better remove that 10 Tech Preview installation for now.
That's actually what I'm doing on my Surface.

Hello all

Doing some improvements to my pc, one of them being an installation of Vista (though some will argue if this is an improvement ).

Being relatively green around computers, I'm looking for some opinions (the pros & cons) on whether to just do an upgrade from XP or to perform a clean install. I have all my important data backed up to an external HDD & will not be installing many other programs so losing everything performing a clean install is not an issue. I'm leaning toward a clean install but could be persuaded to go the other way if it is not going to cause to many dramas.

The other question I have is how I should partition the HDD. With XP it is partitioned with the D drive being the recovery partition & C for Data. What I was thinking of doing was to keep the D drive as is (in case things go wrong) then creating two more partitions (one for the Vista OS & the other for data). Is this possible if I go the clean install option? Or the upgrade option for that matter.

Any thoughts?

Answer:Upgrade Or Clean Install? decisions, decisions

Hello jmw3

Firstly I don't think you should upgrade.Do a clean install everytime if possible as upgrades(XP and vista)causes a lot of problems.

Secondly while I'm not sure bout the upgrade option but windows will erase all the data when you partition a drive or a part of it.The only way(that I know of)around it is to use a partition software.I think there are some free ones but I'm not too sure so you'll have to google it.

I would like some opinions of whether or not to go with a lumia from the 920 series (920,925,928) or the lumia 1320??which one is overall a better choice??!!
1320-low ppi, and only 5 megapixels but big and BEAUTIFUL screen, looks so stylish and has those removeable backs

Answer:lumia 920/925/928 or 1320 decisions...decisions

I'll make it simple for you:
Lumia 920 - $140 (mint, used on eBay)
Lumia 925 - $160 (like new on eBay)
Lumia 928 - $150 (mint, used on Swappa)
Lumia 1320 - $270 (new on the internet)
I would say get the 928 and save your dollars for a future device. The 928 will at least last you a year or maybe more. I bought the 810 last year thinking I would move on and I did not (I did try out the 822, 920, 925 and 928 in that time as well) and finally I made the jump to a 925.

Me again...

I'm going to have to be buying a new laptop since my previous one burnt out - oh the nightmare of heat.

Well, I'm sort of on a fence between Samsung's 550P5C-S03AU ($950au) and Dell's 15R SE ($699au). While the distance between the 3rd gen i7-3610QM (Samsung) and the i5-3210M (Dell) is sizable, the $250 difference is pretty large. Which is why I'm stuck.

Does anyone have either of these and have problems with overheating? Build quality? I chose these two models because of the Gt 650 on both - would an i5 have a significant reduction in FPS compared to the i7?

Thankies.

Answer:Buying a laptop - Decisions, decisions

Im sure i5 will do... and I am biased with dell for performance and durability. Just a personal opinion.

Hi everyone:First off a little background,  I am an engineer with a heavy industry company here in the middle of nowhere USA, and I bought an X61T a few months back to use to take notes in the feild and at school. After using the x61T for a few months I have come up with a list of improvement Ideas for the next generation X-series tablet.  They are in no particular order.1) PLEASE, switch the Fn and Ctrl key position.  The current design violates a major unspoken keyboard standard and makes using  thinkpads unnecessarily aggravating.2) Put the Battery on the front not the back.  The front of the laptop is useless when your using it as a regular laptop, but the back side could be used for all sorts of ports.2a) use the newly free back side to add a DVI port and more USB ports.  Also, move the firewire, network, and VGA ports to the back.  Cords coming out of the sides beyond the first 1" or so get in the way when you've got the laptop in your lap or you hold it against your chest as a portrait-tablet.3) Design the computer around the keyboard.  The X61 is about 1/2" too narrow, and the comprimized special keys are somewhat aggravating.4) Add an optical drive.  (Tablet X300 anyone?)5) Integrate the power supply into the case,  everyone carries the thing around everywhere anyway so why not simplify the cabling.  (This could be a major sleekness improvement... would need proper advertizing to sell additional weight)5a) make t... Answer:Design Ideas for Next Generation X-Series Tablet

I was under the impression that the X61t has the magnesium roll cage that other ThinkPads have.  The T61 has adopted the "new" roll cage technology that uses glass fiber and carbon fiber on the back of the LCD.Also, there is a sleep indicator light on the back side of the LCD.  Unless I'm mistaken, it's the picture of a crescent moon.  On the back of my LCD I clearly have 3 indicator lights right next to each other, battery, AC power, sleep.  The images are: battery, power plug, and crescent moon. Are your indicator lights on the back of the LCD different?

Take a Thinkpad X200 with trackpoint, thinklight and resize into the dimensions of an Ideapad U10 11" size, 10" or 9" size widescreen.  Design it to be fast, powerful, ultra-long lasting batteries, able to open it fully in any coach class airline seat for a Pacific and Trans-Atlantic flight.  I find that I cannot open the X series Thinkpad X31 fully in a coach seat with the seat in front reclined.  The Thinkpad needs to be small enough to be fully opened while the seat in front fully reclined and I am still able to use the laptop weather on a coach seat of a bus, train, or plane on the tray table, not overheat or feel the bottom or palm rest area to be very warm.  Don't need the Touchpad, but I really want the keyboard and trackpoint to stay with the fingerprint reader, Intel's latest Montevina, rollcage, RJ11, RJ45 port, bluetooth, Wi-Max, 802.11n, eSata, OLED, SSD option, XP Pro option, 3 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI port, in the familiar matt black finish.  And keep the price under US one thousand dollars in order to sell alot of market share.  Need to still make it shorter when opened.

Answer:Design Size Dimension considerations for a near future X series Thinkpad

That is awfully lot of ports to fit in a dimension you are specifying, Txxx series are having problems fitting these ports you are mentioning. In addition powerful and ultralong lasting batteries, means a very big battery. Rollcages??? The small size of X series rules much of the benefits of a roll cage, the role of the roll cage in the larger laptops is to stop the whole laptop flexing when it is open (thus preventing long term damages to the motherboards). The X series having an magnesium casing is enough to prevent the flexing whether it is closed or open. Technology do get cheap over time, but i don't think Lenovo can currently manage to produce something of your specification without having to cut corners (not something we want).

Hi!

I juts got my modem (Zyxel P-600 series) replaced for the 3rd time and It was working fine when I got it yesterday afternoon around 4:30pm-5:00pm and was using and was able to get internet until i decided to download Driver Detective and it scanned all my files and I think that's what messed up my modem. The Power and Ethernet light juts keeps on blinking but no DSL or Internet light comes on. I've tried resetting it for 30 or more seconds, and that didn't work either. So, I guess what I'm asking is, is there any drivers and firmware for my Zyxel P-600 series modem? I think if I can get that, then it might work. I already uninstalled Driver Detective and that didn't help either. My Internet Provider is: Earthlink and I don't think they will send me another modem since this is the 3rd modem.

Can someone please, please, help me A.S.A.P.

(P.S.) We also have a linksys router that my dad uses for work to work on his laptop but he won't be able to do that now that we don't have Internet.

Thanks,

Hi buddy,

maybe you should try this site;

http://www.softwaredriverdownload.com/mat****a_dvd_ram_uj_840s_firmware_download.html

but be warned: you do that on your own risk, please read carefully the instructions and be sure you want to do that. If unsure then bring your machine rather to a servicepartner for a hardware checkup.

To find a servicepartner you can use the following site to find the nearest ASP in your country:

I have a Freecom Classic Series external DVDRW8B9. I tried to upgrade the firmware today from the manufacturers website. During the update there was an error (not sure what caused it) and now the drive will not do anything. I have uninstalled and re-installed the hardware a number of times and tried to run the Firmware update utility but keep geeting an error message saying "Target NEC ND-2510A is not found correctly".Does anyone know how I can restore the orignal Firmware or is their a way I can get the new firmware to load.I have tried the manufacturers website and help forums but these are no help.I am running this on Windows 2000 pro with Intel P4 1.5Ghz & 20Gb HDD. I also have a notebook running XP so maybe I could try a solution on this?

Hi,I run a fleet of T430 and X230. A few SSDs have failed, and occasionally I am getting 45K0667 sent for my X230, but all T430 are getting 45N8357. A few X230 are getting 45N8357.I have swapped SSDs between the two (because they are specced the same) and they boot without problem. The major difference I could see between the two FRUs is that 45K0667 seems to run firmware LE1i while 45N8357 runs firmware LE1i FDE. My searching tells me that LE1i is a lenovo-rolled firmware on the intel SSDs, but I do not know what the FDE firmware means. It's interesting to note that it takes less time to have a LE1i SSD replaced than an LE1i FDE SSD replaced. What does LE1i FDE mean? How is it different to the LE1i firmware? Incididentally, I am running checkpoint FDE on all drives.

Answer:T430 / X230 Intel 520 series SSD Firmware: LE1i FDE

Let me start by saying I don't know for sure.  But to me, FDE on that drive means hardware encryption that is enabled by setting a HDD password in BIOS setup.  Since you are running checkpoint software encryption, this is not something you would do.  So for you, the FDE vs non-FDE drives are exactly the same.

Also, there is a new version of firmware for those drives, "LF1i", that was released recently.  Maybe it will solve some of the problems you've been having.

Apparently the new firmware for the SG300 series switches now has a full CLI. here is the manual for all the commands http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/swi...0x/administration_guide/CLI_Nikola300_1.1.pdf

Somebody in the Cisco forums said this was a special version of the CLI for the small business series switches but it looks like the commands are the same as normal IOS?

I am going to try and upgrade later tonight to see how this is.

Cisco Textview: Text-based configuration for those who prefer command-line interface (CLI) management. The CLI is full featured (the entire device can be configured solely through the CLI if so desired), and comes with multiple user privilege levels that deliver differing access depending on the user’s authorization level. A menu-based CLI is also present in this release. These configuration mechanisms complement the Web-based GUI, SNMP/RMON, and FindIT management tools that are already present.Click to expand...

Hello fellow Lenovo users, i will start by saying having been a Lenovo brand user since my X41 in 2006 and having purchased over 8 laptops from the brand based on the rich experiences i have had over the years i am really disapointed at my Y510p i purchased a few years ago. After ownership of 6months i started to notice the screen would flicker as stated by hundreds of other owners.(just type Y510p screen flicker into youtube and see for yourself) I am sure this issue is not new to you  and there are many posts about this. After contact with customer services who constantly tell me it is driver/software related, which it clearly is not i would like to ask why such a prestigious brand such as Lenovo will not admit that this model was shipped with a design fault? I understand that there would be expense involved but after being an avid fan of Lenovo for over 15 years and having purchased over 13 products from tablets for my kids to phones for my wife and the new laptop i buy every 2 years for work, this is small fry. I can never buy another machine from you again now as i have lost all faith in your design/testing and the lack of willingness to accept liability when so many units have the issue makes me sad. This has become a bit of a rant, which i know is not what he forum is about but i feel people should know all the details about a company ethos before they spend their hard earned money on a sub standard machine. Hi all,I'm in the need of restoring my Ideapad A10 model 20323 (loaned it to a friend who - genius - erased the internal sdcard to install a rom without backing up the disk).Nothing serious I said: it's simply a matter of downloading the firmware from Lenovo servers.Surprisingly, I couldn't find anything.I realize that the Ideapad A10 is an old model, but I think that Lenovo servers are big eneough to host the firmware of a discontinued model. Moreover, the netbook always worked well: so what should I do ? Throw it away only because of lack of such an easy remedy like downloading the restore image ?I am simply asking for what I paid for: the ability to use the product I purchased.I am confident that Lenovo will soon resolve this issue and will upload the firmware.

Hello Lenovo Community,I currently have a Lenovo Y500 Ideapad. I personally love the processing power of my laptop and have found it to satisfy most of my needs. The problem I seem to be having is with the quality of the keyboard. After about a month after purchase, one of my keys (the F key) seemed to have fallen off. I noticed after examining it that the plastic that holds the keys on simply snapped off (about 5mm of cheap plastic to hold the keys on). I sent it in and have recieved a whole new keyboard within a week. 3 weeks later and my S key has broken again. I do have warranty on it but it is a pain to sendit in EVERY 3 weeks to get a single key fixed. I was wondering if this was simply my bad luck or poor Lenovo keyboard design. I am considering returning my computer or scrapping it to get a new one with better quality. Someone let me know if it's just me that is experience this or if Lenovo has serious issues with their key design.Sincerely,Angry Lenovo Customer.

I turned off my notebook last Friday and left it in the suitcase where noone else touched it until Monday. I open it this week and found display broken on the mid-right possition. Of course, customer support representatives are sayng that this was due to inapropiate handling (based on a few poor pictures I sent through e-mail), so warranty doesn't cover. I wonder if anyone else suffered a situation like this with this kind of equipment. From my point of view, external parts are way too flexible for such a fragile inner part (display), so that may cause an internal damage without showing any external crack, scratch. Or maybe temperature changes, but by no means any preassure, hit, fall or any other accident during the first 3 months of use. Thanks in advance!!!

Hey guys, first off, I'd like to say I should have joined a long time ago. This forum has helped me so much! Anyway...

I was looking for some advice on a cheap, but worthwhile upgrade. Im in the UK so cant use newegg (I think ) with a budget of around £250-£300 (~$450-$550). of course I wouldn't be upset if the build ended up with a little cash left over, I am a student after all!

The budget is to buy a new CPU, Motherboard, Graphics Card, and s'more RAM. And I may need a new PSU aswell. I was thinking of an AMD Athlon 64 3000 (maybe higher depending on other components), a GeForce 6600gt 128Mb DDR3 or Radeon 9800 Pro 128Mb DDR, and a stick or two of 512Mb DDR400 RAM. I welcome any suggestions you have on any components, but esp. Motherboards and PSU's.

Maybe its pushing it, but I'd like to be able to run the likes of Half Life 2, but if not, I'll settle for a pc thats gunna last me through the next few years of Uni, cos I prob won't have the funds to upgrade for a while

Many thanks in advance to anyone who replies!

I'm in the process of trying to decide what system to build in the next week or so and am looking for some input from folks that know what they are talking about. The more I read, the more confused I get.

I have decided I want to use the AMD 3500+ 939 CPU. I know that there are a few different ver's and don't know what the real difference is. I also can't decide which ASUS board to use along with it. It's got to have at least 6 USB ports and 8 would be even better.

I believe I want to use Kingston 512 ddr400 x 2 sticks unless it's possible to use 1 stick of 1 gig ram????

The video card I'm probably going to go with is the Sapphire Radeon 9600 pro 256 mainly because of the price which is $159.00 Canadian.

The rest of the stuff I will need is simple enough to decide on so I don't really need any help with that....ie: DVD, H/D, card reader, power supply etc.

Suggestions...feedback and comments are welcome.
Thanks
Guy

Was wondering which version would be best for me between an i5 or i7 yoga? My main purpose will be for school work, which will include mostly lots of notes taking in OneNote, PDF annotation, and use of other microsoft office products, but not limited to these. I have no clue what could come up in this coming year; at most, I may have to do some minor video editing or graphic design with photoshop, but it will probably be rare. Also, I've been looking at current CPU specifcations between the i5 and i7 on Intel ARK's site to the i5 2nd generation CPU in the laptop I'm typing on now which is an Intel i5-2450M processor which also shares similarities between the current i5, it seems, such as 3M Cache, 2 cores, 4 threads, but has a higher clock speed and max turbo frequency. Seems to have a higher power consumptions, but sounds like it would run faster than the newer i5? Thank you, Kevin

I'm thinking of upgrading my GPU, I currently own a GTX 460 1GB. Here are some options I have thought up:

- Get another GTX 460 (£125), probably the simplest solution as it means I don't have to sell my current card. However this is an old generation card and is pretty rare hence the price is actually more expensive than when I bought mine a year ago.
- 2x GTX 560 non-Ti (£130x2), tempting because a GTX 560 is pretty much the same price as a 460 and a 560 Ti is £170 which is a bit over budget.
- 2x Radeon 6870 (£140x2)
- GTX 570 (£260), for some reason the 580 is way more expensive at £360.
- Radeon 6970 (£260)

I'm leaning towards either the 560 SLI or 6870 CF setup, same price as a 570/6970 but better fps. Does anyone have any feedback regarding the SLI/CF performance for these cards? Any stutter issues to be aware of?

Games I want to play are Battlefield 3, MW3, Skyrim and Diablo 3 next year, at 1920x1080. I want ~60fps performance.
My mobo supports both SLI and CF.

Any other suggestions are also welcome!

Answer:GPU upgrade, decisions decisions

With ATI crossfire your going to get a lot of issues and driver problems. Its good hardware, the drivers suck so your gonna have a bad experience. Go with nVidia .

Man dont throw your money away new sh*T will come out soon. If I were you

SLI your 460 1GB . then you will get like gtx 580 stock speeds experience. The 4xx and 5xx arent that much apart in performance. Soo for 10fps more your dropping your 460 away, and spending about 500 dollars.

SLI that 460 and wait for Kepler 2012.

The 460 1GB alone is a monster and best bang for buck GPU like the 8800 GT in old days.

SLIing it will give you close to GTX 580 performance.

So yesterday I decided to update some drivers and I noticed there was a new BIOS version, version CDCN53WW.My Y700-15ISK was running the CDCN52WW. The new firmware was correctly updated and the armageddon started.I immediately noticed two things but I bet that's just the tip of the iceberg:    1. Some external HDD we not seen anymore by the system   2. The computer had a random crash watching a video, something I hadn't seen since more than a decade ago, the audio getting stuck, the image frozen (4 sec pressure on the OFF button necessary). The first case was interesting, I have 4 external HDDs, one has an issue with the USB 3.0 so I can only use it through a USB 2.0 cable, and curiously that one was the only one working; so I guess the problem was with the 3.0. I've encountered these two problems but I had enough.I decided to downgrade to version CDCN52WW. In order to do that, you need to enter the BIOS (press F2, reaaaally early on the boot process or you miss your moment) and find the setting where you can allow to downgrade the BIOS, if you don't do that the installer (CDCN52WW.exe) will refuse to install the BIOS claiming that the version installed is newer. After reinstalling version CDCN52WW all the problems went away.Someone at LENOVO should take a look at this update, I checked the changelog and not much has changed so, unless the modification was unmentioned, the thing that messed with all this was one ... Hi, I suddenly encountered a battery problem in my laptop, IdeaPad Y510P.  When I plug in a charger, the laptop shows that battery is charing but, it never goes above 7% (w/ max battery life mode). According to Energy Management, battery status is fine.  After searching similar issues, I think it may be a problem with firmware, but I was not able to find a firmware update for IdeaPad series, Windows 8.1.... I have been using my laptop over a year, but never had this problem before. Can you please guide me through how to fix this issue?  Thanks for your help..!

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z400 that was bought in 1st-2nd week of May, 2013. I have a problem that started on May 21, 2013, my laptop battery suddenly drops from 25% to 6%. I've read some posts that it requires firmware update to work normally.. This is the site

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035310

Is there any steps needed while performing this Upgrade? Is it safe? Will it fix my problem?  By the way, I'm here in Philippines and the Ideapad Z400 was bought by my uncle somewhere in Saudi Arabia, and he delivered it to me when he got back here. I started using the laptop on May 8, 2013. Thanks..

Hi, I am about to buy one laptop, but I can't decide which one. Partly because I don't know the difference between the Y and Z series. Can anyone explain me how they differ and also which one you would prefer for:   Surfing on the internetWatching moviesPlaying Games (wanna play on good resolution, doesn't mean, hardcore gaming^^)I also want it on a 14" so, the only 2 Laptops that come into question are Y and Z 470. If I'm not mistaken, both of them have the same specs?! looking forward for some good answers d(^.^)b

Answer:Ideapad Y series vs Z series

I'm partial to the Z560 series with the 310M video card in it.  The reason is that it doesn't use the nVidia Optimus tech.  Optimus causes all kinds of problems with games, check the nVidia forums for more info.  The Y series seems to have all kinds of issues with graphics so the Z series seems to be a good compromise.  My opinion, FWIW.

Subject says it all, at seemingly random times my S10 now turns off, the wireless light stays on, but no screen, power/charge light, etc.  This happens with and without the power adapter plugged in, and has happened 4 times since updating 3 days ago.  It hasn't happened when I'm using it, twice when it was idle (It makes a great alarm clock at 3am) and twice when waking it from sleep. In order to turn it back on I need to hold down the power button to hard reset, unplugging power adapter doesnt help, battery has a full charge. Anyone else having this issue?  It's stock except upgraded memory (1gb DDR2 667), which I swapped out to make sure it wasnt causing the issue.  This never happened with the old firmware.  I don't see anyway to downgrade it to the old firmware either.. Original S10 ordered in august, shipped in early Oct (Mft Date 9/25/08), 512mb/80gb 10.2" running the included XP home. http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/lenovo/drivers/2412/5696.html   was firmware update.  Applied because the boot-on-one key recovery button was annoying.  Update applied fine, rebooted, everything else seems fine.Message Edited by jonthompson on 11-29-2008 02:25 PMMessage Edited by jonthompson on 11-29-2008 02:27 PM

Dear Lenovo, After perusing the recent 2016/2017 comments by multiple users on similar posts about Ideapad Z510 battery from across locations/countries - it appears that the firmware that you had issued last year - has somehow got overwritten / superceded maybe in either late 2016  or early 2017 by some more recent/latest updates. I am writing from India and facing the same probem that the battery is showing 100% and then going off almost immediately. This probem had fortunately got solved last year when you had issued a firmware update - but now when i am trying to use the same files again - it basically conveys that "no battery available to update" because that particular firmware is already applied on our laptop. Hence, can you please release newer firmware update for this same issue -  using a z510 system having current till-date updates for different OS - win 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 - same way as you have released for thinkpad series of laptops too on the weblink - http://support.lenovo.com/in/en/downloads/ds001322 Come to think of it - that if a fully working battery is being "prompted" as weak and "need to buy" - but actually is a fully functioning hardware - isnt it a bit of a letdown for your users??? - what to say of  some who might have already bought and replaced with newer replacement batteries - which is actually a completely avoidable cost? I am sure you need to resolve this issue soon so as to restore c... Read more

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing,
Based from what i read in your post, seems like a virus attack which has modified the partition table of your system hard drive,  You can try scanning the system with an updated antivirus under safe mode to check , or you can reformat the system using the recovery media which you might have created using the OKR system .

Do give this a try and let us know

Hope This Helps
Cheers!!!

I've had a Y series idea pad for about a year now and just recently it seems to be having overheating issues. It ran fine until a couple months ago, then after running for awhile it began to occasionally power off while in use. I usually just rebooted and it would run fine again. With time this becamse more frequent, and now I can get around 15-30mins of light use (internet explorer or simply sitting at the desktop) and it will either turn off or freeze and entirely lock up, sounds sometimes continue and windows are occasionally clickable(but not responsive) but not moveable or minimizable. Is there anything I can do to remedy this?

Answer:Y series Ideapad overheating?

You would need to clean the fan, there is probably some dusts/hair clogging system, which is causing overheating of the CPU/GPU which leads to your unexpected shutdowns.

My first question: Does anyone know when the U330 touch will go on sale here in the US? Second question: I've been reading a lot about wireless issues, is this something that should keep me from pickign up a U310/U410? Considering an Ideapad U series, but want to have the option to go Blu-ray either now or relatively soon.  Does anyone know if the graphics will support it and if this will be an option? Thank you.p.s.  I did ask the chat support on the Lenovo site the same question and they could not answer it.

Answer:Will Blu-ray be an option for Ideapad U series?

Can't really get you.You ask for Blu-ray (which definately will be an option for models that have DVD-ROMs inside) but then you mean graphics? What are you exactly asking about? If you're asking if videocards are powerfull enough to handle 1080p H264, answer is positive - all new videocards have decoding options for that. Be sure - every model ending *30 (for example, U330) will handle HD-video without a whistle. I'm not a native speaker and for that can take something wrong.

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y570 (Windows 7, 64 bit, i7 Core). I also have a license key (and an installation disk) to upgrade this laptop computer to Win 8. I want to do this upgrade soon, but am not sure what will happen to the special Lenovo programs and functions which came pre-installed with the computer. The most important is OneKey Recovery which restores Windows either by running the OneKey Recovery program, or, if Windows cannot be started normally, by pressing the OneKey Recovery button instead of the Switch-On button. The OneKey Recovery System uses a special Service Partition on the hard drive to backup and recover the C partition. In effect, you don't need an installation disk to get out of any kind of trouble with Windows. The Y570 also has other special features such as the SlideNav program navigator, more of a gimmick to my mind. The question is, what happens when I upgrade Win 7 on this machine to Win 8 Pro? Will the OneKey Recovery system (including the button) still work? It's a long shot to ask this question on this forum. But perhaps there is a soul somewhere who has successfully (or unsuccessfully) tried to upgrade this kind of machine to Win 8? The Lenovo Y-Series includes the Y580, Y570, Y580 and the smaller Y460 etc range, all with at least OneKey Recovery as special feature. Any help available about this? I asked this question at the Lenovo forum but got nothing but silence, non-answers, in return. The Lenovo users simply don't know, it would seem.

Answer:Has anybody upgraded Lenovo Ideapad (Y-Series) to Win 8?

You should visit the Lenovo forums for your laptop model;
IdeaPad Y, U, V, Z and P series Laptops - Lenovo Community

Might look at their Win8 compatibility list too if its still there somewhere.

The OneKey will do you no good as it would restore your factory or your custom image. You can rebuild it with your own win8 install image, but it takes some efforts and the Lenovo engineering dvd download and understanding how to use it. Its really simple but takes a certain procedure and a lot of time, that you can quickly waste that time if you don't understand the how to.

Its just an Image, I loaded it then said screw it after all the initial errors from the win8 install and simply enlarged that partition to 50gb and let the win8 (7backup) do a weekly backup and image into it. That regressed button restore is now useless but I can still image it simply with the win8upgrade.iso. Learn the RecIMG command and you'll probably be happy - but do keep an image on a remote drive somewhere.

You might want to find the image inside the Lenovo_Part and rename install.wim .. save it somewhere for some rainy day to let windows use it to reimage back to the factory original win7 and Lenovo crapola, or to the custom image if you did that when new. If you have resized any partitions, you've already broken that regressed factory reimage button. Seems everybody breaks it without knowing.

I've been leaning towards getting myself an IdeaPad Y560 (0646-2EU), but after researching YouTube and this forum I'm quite afraid of this purchase. I'm in Brazil (I'd import the notebook) so... no chance for returns! Are the display problems all over the Y560 series? As far as I know... is on every Y560.But, we have to be calm... It will be solved... or that's what the guys at Lenovo told us. Check here:http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-B-and-Z-series/Widespread-Y560-Display-Problem/m-p/248235#M2... Also, it seams that you don't have International Warranty in Brazil:http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/au/en/htmls/1221210303937.htmlHope you can send it to Argentina, where you will have. But, so far (what Lenovo guys says)... all the screen problems are just a software issue.

Hi, I am looking to purchase an IdeaPad Y series laptop. However, after looking around I have been unable to find the information i require. Basically what i need to know is... 1. Can I add a second HDD (after purchase) on all IdeaPad Y models or just on a select model?2. I currently have a 180GB SSD model free to use, will the IdeaPad accept this as a secondary drive? Or will have I have to graba  120GB SSD or a 60GB? Thank You For Looking. Your Answers Are Very Much Appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Y Series (Option to add a second HDD)

hi hanskas i know, ideapad series don't have a space for second hdd but if you are not planning to use dvd-rom, you can remove it and buy hdd box for the dvd-rom space.you can also buy second hdd or sdd on purchase. but due to the reason i explained above, it'd be easier to use ssd instead of second hdd.also, make sure the model you're going to purchase supports ssd ( some of -old- ideapads doesn't support sdd )hope this helps.

Dear Lenovo, would it be possible to have a separate category for the IdeaPad S series under the Idea Systems menu? It's just that the S's seem to be very different from the U's and Y's; indeed, even the S10e seems to be somewhat different from the S10 in terms of recovery etc. - I'm wondering if the S10e's were just randomly configured! Whilst I'm at it, a quick gripe about the S10/e support on the Lenovo site - try getting documentation such as a troubleshooting guide or a FAQ and you'll invariably draw a blank.  Apart from the parts list the only document seems to be the hardware guide (not even the user guide is available!). As a very happy owner of a T61p I'd anticipated good support, but I'm beginning to think that the IdeaPad S series owners are being given rather third class support! The S10/e is a sweet machine - please don't spoil it with lemon-flavoured support! Cheers.

Been searching for a laptop for a week or so.  Then, all of a sudden, have my g-friend just order me an Ideapad Series U for a X-Mas/B-day present. Reviewing the details, she paid $800 for a Pentium Dual Core machine.  This is about $300 more than you can purchase a newer dual core chip machine from Lenovo.  I'm attempting to cancel the order about 10 hours after it was placed and before it is sent.  What is the chance that I can avoid the restocking fee?  I'm not paying it regardless but it is easier if they just cancel it for me.  Any experience with them in this regard?

Answer:Ideapad U Series- Cancelling Order Help

It happened to me.  Just call and cancel stating that the wrong laptop was purchased accidentally.  They'll put a cancel request and the laptop might still be shipped to you.  If that does happen, call again and asked for a UPS label to ship it back.  As long as you don't open the box and ship it back there's no restocking fee.

Hello

I have recently purchased the Ideapad for uni, however it is very very slow and I wanted to give it a bit of a boost by maxing out the ram
Find below the actual specs of the laptop as I cant find any documentaiton as to the actual model of the netbook
also after doing some research on various forums, i think this ram should be compatiable
http://shopap.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/auweb/LenovoPortal/en_AU/catalog.workflow:item.det...
I was wondering if anyone could confirm this, and that the max ram for this netbook is 2 GIG?
also please note the processor is coming up as N475 under windows

I would like to know which driver is the best for idepad z710 wifi card intel n7260? I have a lot of problems with connection speed and drops. Tried driver on lenovo site for my model and also tried newest driver form intel page. Problem remains. I have also tried all the diffrent settings i have found on forums (uAPSD, HT, power settings etc). Can I install lenovo drivers for other computer model? Can you please suggest which driver should i install to have better connection. Connection on my old laptop is a lot better.

Answer:wifi driver ideapad Z series

Device driver software is very specific to the hardware.  Pretty much only the hardware manufacturer provides the driver.  When you get the wifi driver from Lenovo, they just re-distributes what they get from Intel. If you think the Intel wifi card is not doing you justice, you can always use another wifi device and disable the one inside the laptop.  For example, those nano wifi dongles by TP-Link are very inexpensive.  Got mine under USD $10.  Uses a USB port.

It seems Lenovo made the right Shift key half its normal size and stuck the page up key next to it on the right. Every time I go to shift, (to capitalize the 1st letter of my sentence of when I type a name) I hit page up and my cursor jerks up to the next line (or several lines). This is beyond annoying!!!! Unfortunately I just realized this after I brought the computer home from Best Buy. Who the heck would look at the keyboard if all the letters and symbols and other keys are at the right place where they belong? I am used to the "normal" keyboard settings since 20 years and whenever I bought a new laptop I never checked the keyboards. I have no idea how I will re-train myself to reach waaaaaaay to the right with my right pinky to hit the Shift key. Anyone has a good suggestion?

I have a S110 that was running Windows XP Pro 32 bit. It did an update and that corrupted the OS and so I have been trying many things to fix. I have a XP Pro SP3 disc and an external CD/DVD device to load from but am running into a few problems. Option 1: Fresh install of XPIf I try this option it gets to the point where I can use the Recovery tool or do a new install.  The problem is that the internal hard disc is not recognized. I don't have an external floppy to install the device drivers for the SCSI so I have hit a road block here.  Not sure how to proceed. Option 2: I start the corrupt OS and it boots into a setup mode and wants to be pointed to the Windows install disc and files. I have pointed it to the XP SP3 disc and it gets so far and then gives the BS of D and kicks me out.  If I restart it goes right back to the point in the setup procedure that it started.  Again, not sure how to proceed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Ideapad S-Series Windows XP Clean Install

A bunch more searching and reading and I found this post that solves the issue by recommending a setting for the SATA mode in the BIOS under the CONFIGURATION options: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-S-series-Netbooks/IdeaPad-S1-3T-Want-to-clean-install-Windows-XP... This allowed the installation from the CD to proceed and the system to find the SCSI drive once the setting for the SATA mode was set  to "compatibility". Thx

I have an Ideapad S500 Series Touch (ideapad S510p Touch), that was originally a Win 8.1 unit, upgraded to Win 10, then somehow was restored by hitting the one button restore button near the A/C Adapter plug-in. It was factory restored accidentally, and then upgraded again to Win 10. The touch screen will not work with any driver (I have tried every eGalaxa driver out there and the patch), but, it wouldn't work at all since the accidental restoration no matter the OS installed. I am looking and failing to find anywhere so far the required proper Firmware Upgrade file like the S400 series one at this Lenovo link.  Inv.gy/1PuBoFq      (This Lenovo URL Shortened w/Bitly.com)  It would be the eGalaxaUpdateAuto file for the S500 Series Touch ideapads I am looking for. Why didn't the engineers that designed that wonderful one click restore button think of hiding it inside a rear compartment like near the memory chips? I think this is a bug. I will stop using Veriface until this problem is fixed.
Anyone can help me?

Answer:Veriface on IdeaPad S series- login pressing ESC

I would recommend to check the support site and see if a newer version of Veriface is available for your particular system.   It is possible that your Veriface software has been corrupted, so simply uninstall and reinstall might solve the problem.

I would like to know an answer to simple YES or NO questions: 1) Is it normal behaviour that a webcam LED flash when Lenovo Idelapad Z710 is powered on?2) Does YOUR webcam LED flash when you power the notebook ON? I am concerned about security. My computer got hacked at the university network and from that time the webcam LED started to flash when the notebook is power on. I am not really sure if it did flash before my computer got hacked, thats why I am asking here. More detailed description if you wanted: - The webcamera is function normaly. - The LED turn ON for a second or two, when the notebook is powered ON, then turn off. - The LED does not turn ON when the notebook is waked up from sleep mode / hibernation. - The LED turn ON even when the harddrive is disconnected and removed from the notebook.  - I did some talk with a local serviceman for lenovo, but we were unable to fix it (EEPROM locked...), as there is no direct support for ideapad in my country. - Flashing BIOS didnt help, or any changes in BIOS. If your answer is "It is normal..", please also answer if your webcam behaves the same.If your about answer "hacking BIOS/HW is not possible..." well, it is possible, for example see: http://securityaffairs.co/wordpress/25425/hacking/bypass-secure-boot-uefi.html

Hi, I am facing key pad problem with ideapadz580.The keys "9","O","L","." are not working remaining all keys are working perfectly. Please provide me a solutions. * I did restart and reinstalling drivers but of no use.

Answer:Ideapad z580 series keypad issues

Hi and welcome to the lenovo forums.

Can you try to boot into Safe Mode and see if all of the keyboard keys are working.

If all of the keys are working, there's most likely an third party application that's disabling the "9","O","L"," and "." keys. Perform a clean boot to isolate what app is causing the issue.

If all of the keyboard keys still doesn't work in Safe Mode then this is most likely a defective keyboard and you need to contact lenovo for service.

Hope this helps

A friend spilled lemonade on my keyboard. Thankfully everything seems to be funtioning fine, but the left and right click are sticking down. My problem is actually with a G570 but I can't seem to find the appropriate subforum for that laptop. The V series touchpad and clickers look similar or the same, though. I was wondering if anyone knew if I am able to pop the left/right click buttons off to clean under them?

Most likely the complete palmrest would need to be removed.Hardware manual here:http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/UserGuide/Guide_show_1319029486729.html(Removal would most likely void warranty)

Hello everybody, I am posting here as Google didnt give me any appropriate answers for my issue, not is there any sort of solution available in the forums or anywhere else.  The issue here is that Windows 10 recently introduced an option to share you internet connection to other devices by enabling an option called as "Mobile Hotspot". The issue here is that Lenovo has disabled the option to "Create a wifi hotspot using the command prompt, the hosted network method" due to this Mobile Hotspot feature of Windows 10. (I dont have any clue why this was disabled). Now what is useless in this Windows 10 Mobile Hotspot feature is that I can only create the hotspot if I am connected to some sort of existing cellular or wireless network, else I can't (yes, Microsoft screws it up every single time and I dont know why). The problem is that if i want to create a wireless hotspot for sharing some files, or to play games in LAN, I cannot do so using the Mobile Hotspot Option in Windows 10. I really want to request the Software Development Team of Lenovo to address this issue and enable support for Hosted Networks by providing an update to the drivers. I know it is possible to do so, but it requires an update to the Wireless Driver, and this can only be done by Lenovo. I read in meny websites that rolling back the driver will help, etc but none of them work, trust me I have tried every single method to get Hosted Network support working. I really hope som... Hi! I have a Lenovo IdeaPad S12 for three years now... and I am generally really happy with it  Since a few weeks, however, my display is not working properly anymore. All,

Post your shipping and order management experiences here:

Here are some common points of frequent discussion:

Avoid Credit Holds - ensure that BOTH your bill to and ship to addresses are listed with your CC bank before ordering
Lenovo will NOT bill your card until order ships - an authorization charge hold to check for available balance may show up when order is first placed.
Estimated ship dates are based on default lead time and can vary from what was displayed on website.
In the US and Canada, Lenovo utilizes UPS for new product shipments
Orders may ship before the Estimated Ship Date
Orders may enter through Alaska and pass through Louisville, KY before traveling on to final address
Cancellation requests may take up to 2 days to process
Requests to change configuration or other aspects of the order may require the order to be rebooked.
Lenovo does not accept payment via international credit cards, except AMEX.

My bad experience with attempting to purchase from Lenovo, so far... Customer Number: ********Order Number: 2HALJJDeboshree ,All of that sounds fairly reasonable, but is nothing like what the Lenovo representative told me in a converastion on the phone a week ago.  At that point Lenovo's story was that the laptop was being shipped immediately and would arrive at my house "by the weekend".  He said nothing about credit card processing at that time, but did verify my shipping and billing address.I'm not concerned about the build and shipping of the laptop taking a reasonable amount of time.  I'm concerned about Lenovo lying to me about it.  I made plans based on that lie.  This is not the way web sales and order fulfillment are done by companies that want to keep their customers. Also, I do nearly all of my shopping on the web, and there is no "2 business day" delay in processing my card.  Lenovo is the only business that has ever said anything like that to me.I'm considering canceling the order.  What if I have to go through all of this lack of customer service again later if the laptop needs warranty work?  What if I get lied to then, when my computer is down for who knows how long?  It's not looking like a reasonable risk to me at this point...Look at your competitors.  Dell does NOT lie to their customers.  Amazon knows how to fulfill orders and provide up-to-date order status on their web page.  These things a... My laptop screen randomly tinted red one day and I can not figure out how to get rid of it. It looks almost like little red pixels that cover small parts of the screen, I think in place of certain chades of colours. I would really appreciate any help anyone can offer me to resolve this situation. I do not know much about laptops so I am hesitant to go and fiddle around with it myself and possibly make it worse.

Answer:Issue with screen color having red tint - IdeaPad S series

If you didn't touch any settings or install anything that coincides with the change in color, its probably best to think of this as a possible hardware issue. That being the case support is your best bet for things getting back to normal, especially if the change is limited to just parts of the screen at the time.  Lenovo Worldwide Support Phone Database: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/feedback/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-76613#

My new IdeaPad S510P Touchpad has an issue using its HDMI port.  I have looked for information on the Lenovo site and its manuals finding nothing about the HDMI except that the port exists.  My issue is that I have to connect the HDMI cable to one of my HDTV HDMI ports, set the TV to that input and then boot the S510P laptop in order to get the sound to output to the HDTV.  If I hook up the HDMI cable while the laptop is already on then only the video/display appears on the screen.  There is no apparent control panel or configuration applet on the laptop to set the HDMI audio output. I am guessing that it is suppose to be automatic like when connecting to the audio out port for headphones or earplugs.  But that is not happening with the HDMI port for audio - what is wrong??

Hello, I have the IdeaPad U Series laptops U310 Laptop with solid state drive and HDD that work in sync with each other. Does anyone know if this laptop is compatible with windows 10 and if the upgrade will disrupt the way the SDD/HDD work with each other?  I can''t seem to find any compatibility info on this laptop in the support section.  Any help is appreciated!

Answer:IdeaPad U Series laptops U310 Laptop - Windows 10

Dear RonnieDio,

Welcome in lenovo community,

Lenovo did not test or release the compatible windows 10 drivers for the U310 yet.

Also you can follow the below link for the Lenovo supported systems list for Windows 10 Upgrade till now.

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht103535

If you upgrade it you will disrupt the way the SDD/HDD work with each other.

Regards,
Joseph

Automated Download Function (beta)

Answer:New driver download function beta for 3000, Valueline and ideaPad series

Ph031618,

Thanks for sharing that link to an automated download function for Idea Products and certain Valueline systems.

Perhaps this could be written up with a bit of explanation and hints and tips and added to the FAQs for Idea and 3000/Value line boards?

I'll look for member feedback here first.

Mark
