I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: R30 wont boot after bios update.. says need new b/up batt.... Please helppppppppppppp

I've found theres a physical problem with the design of the motherboard (or at least MY R30), it seems that the bios battery holder has comes up from the motherboard indicating a dry solder joint is the cause. I have resoldered it twice and am now considering putting in a 3032 battery with the built in leads and soldering it directly to the motherboard and bypassing the dodgy battery clip altogether. Also a kludge to make sure it keeps contact is cut up a peice of plastic 1/8 inch/2-3mm thick to the size that fits underneath the keyboard plug and contacts the battery, and wedge it under there. I've had my bios battery kept in by this method for a month or so now and im not changing it until i can be bothered with stripping my laptop down and replacing the battery connector as indicated above. Good luck, p.s. did you really need to upgrade the bios or was it a "why not?" idea?

Hi to all!I just baught Z50-75 with AMD FX7500, 8GB Ram and FreeDOS. I installed Windows 8.1 Pro, and they pulled some drivers during the installation, and I went to Lenovo sight and downloaded all the rest (graphics, camera, etc.), after each installation the computer restarted normally and all was O.K. The last drivers that I saw on the site were BIOS drivers, and I downloaded those to and it started the installation after which it said:"The system will now restart for changes to make effect", and it did, but, it would not boot up after that, all it did was show me this on the screen:   And I tried both of the options (the second one with the Windows CD inside), but it just stays where it is, no effect.I can enter the bios and change the settings, but none of them seem to work because this is the maximum where it will go, the only difference is when I change from AHCI to Compatible mode, it restarts and than I have a blank screen, I have to use the One button Recovery to get back to this one from the picture above...I would appriciate any kond of help, please give me some advice.

I have a custom built desktop and an asrock 970M Pro3 mobo. I have windows 10 and I noticed that today my computer was being really slow. I would open google chrome and when I would look something up it took at least 1 minute to load anything. I have an program called rainmeter and a few other addons for it that told me my cpu was at 100%. Long story short my cpu was running at 100% constantly even when (besides for windows programs) I only had skype open. I looked online and saw people were having the same problem. They said to update the bios and the original creator of the thread would always say something along the lines of "Thanks it worked my pc is back to normal!" So I downloaded an update for my motherboard bios and then after I started it my screen went black. Ive tried restarting the pc and dont know what to do. Please help!

So I updated my BIOS. I have an HP 150t and the motherboard died so I bought another one online and it was working fine but I decided to update the BIOS going into HPs website which mightve been a mistake. Now onto the problem: When I update everything was fine except it took about 20 seconds for the monitor to light up and after it did it took a really long time from the POST screen to boot into Windows. But after it did it worked like a charm. Now it still does the same except that it wont boot into Windows anymore and Startup repair has not been able to fix it. Thanks a lot for the help

Did the BIOS update finished correctly? Sorry, but I think that you will have to send it to the Warranty Service for a BIOS flash restore.

Hi there. I have a Lenovo Z575 and I installed the BIOS update on the Lenovo drivers page and now my computer wont boot. I tried to reinstall Windows 7 but it wont boot from USB, so I tried to install XP from a disc and it gets part way through set-up then i get a blue screen telling me Windows has shut down to prevent damage to my computer and the error it gives is IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. However, I now have no operating system on my computer so can't use any of the fixes I find online. Oddly enough, it installs Ubuntu 10.04 that I have on a disc. It's only when i try to install Windows I get any errors.I've already tried loading default settings in the BIOS with no luck. Is there another way to reset the BIOS?ThanksSteph

I have just upgraded my laptop to the new BIOS as stated in the title but after doing it my computer now wont boot up at all. I just get a blue screen with it asking me to do a CHKDSK because there might be a virus or that the hard drive isn't connected properly (when it is), and it just keeps rebooting.

It wont start in safe mode either. Anyone else had the same problem and if so, how do I get my laptop back?? :(

Can anyone help me please?

Updated my BIOS as recommended using the windows tool! All went through fine, backed up, verified and flashed new version. After the auto reboot my laptop will not boot past the Toshiba screen, press F12 and nothing, F2 and I just get PLEASE WAIT. Guess I won't be trying Visa or indeed any OS now.

Why oh why did I do it? All was fine before but was advised to do it for full compatibility. Do I need a new board or is there a key I can press to unable me to boot from CD to reflash or return to old BIOS?

Please help!

I tried to do a BIOS update on my DX1210 last night to version 1.5,
During the update there was a write failed error message and now the system won't boot.
Is there a way to reflash the bios when a bios update fails?
I've got all the bios files extracted on to a USB key but I'm not sure what to do to initate a bios recovery?

Answer:Qosmio DX1210 wont boot - Bios update failed

Well, BIOS problems can be solved only by an Toshiba authorized service partner.
I assume the ROM module where the BIOS is stored, has not been flashed properly.
The Rom module can be flashed again using an special crisis disk.

Therefore I see just one real option for you: get in contact with the service guy to get it fixed.

Hi, let me just start by saying im an idiot....

Dowloaded a few drivers for my toshiba p100 240 and noticed there was a BIOS update, i downloaded it and ran the program only for it to come up with
an error that it will only allow the Administrator to run program. My laptop became slow and would not allow me to turn it off by any means. In the end i took out the
battery and restarted only to find a blank screen, no start up or anything on screen.

I fear i have totally killed my machine and its about 4 months out of warrenty, Im sure there is no cheap miricle cure for this but if anyone can give me my options here I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for your time,

Answer:Satellite P100-240 wont boot up after failed BIOS update

Hi mate,

Thats a bit of a problem... If your machine really won?t boot up and no screen comes up, then your BIOS was probably damaged.

I would really recommend you to contact an [authorized service partner| 000000871] and tell them your problem. Maybe they can do something for. I mean, your machines hardware is ok, and it?s just some BIOS related thing.

Hope your machine will work again..

here is the deal. installed a new harddrive on a friends computer. installed the OS onthe new HDD and it wouldnt boot. wellllll i went and put back in the old HDD and now it wont boot that one either but what is worse is that the bios wont load either. i reset the bios by taking out the CMOS battery. even switching the jumpers. it reset my bios but it just wont load my bios menu. when i turn the pc on it tells me i need to set time and date in the bios big deal since i just reset it. however, when i hit delete to load the claims its "loading setup" but it never does. i let it sit for hours and it never loads the bios. its like its frozen. anyone have any suggestions on what i can do? i would be happy if i can just get the old configuration working so he can have a computer

Answer:PC wont boot AND wont load any bios..

What jumpers did you mess with. Was it a bios reset jumper? What is the system specs? It sounds like the Bios is toast.Try to go to the web site of the motherboard manfg, and get a bios and make a BIOS image on floppy and reflash the BIOS. There should be instructions on how to do this.

Last night I updated windows 8.1 from windows 8.
It got to the stage where it needs to restart so it done that started the configarations and once it reached 100% it restarted.

Since then what happens is when i press power on the samsung logo comes on the screen then the black screen with the windows picture then the bsod comes up for around half a second and it restarts. then it constantly does this.

The whole cycle only takes a few seconds.

Ive tried booting in safe mode but this isnt working so I downloaded kav rescue on another computer and saved it on a flash drive, But it wont boot off this either.

Any ideas?

Answer:Windows wont start after 8.1 update wont boot in safe mode

What does the BSOD state? Most times it is a driver issue with the Display drivers. Other times it is hardware.

Was not simple trying to clarify my problem in a small title. My online classes begin in 5 days, I am desperate here! Here we go. 2 days ago I tried to import pics from my phone to laptop. I have had this laptop only for 3-4 months, and just mainly used it for school. Before halfway through the importing of pics process it rejects my phone, and will no longer recognize it (Samsung Galaxy S5 active btw). I did so much research, and tried so many usb settings tweeks, but nothing. It hates my phone for some reason.

Then at a point during all that, I reset my laptop and it just gets stuck with black screen and circle bubbles. Doing all the things you can think of on google, so many searches. It goes from that to getting stuck on welcome screen, then doing more work and searching, I get it to go to my desktop, but its only a black screen with mouse cursor. Before this point I couldn't even get it to boot through safe mode, it would get stuck. I can get safe mode now, but wont let me access any setting or options, no control panel. Not even start menu! I could only get into task and device managers. At that point I saw "!"s on my display adapters, video card, network card, and a couple of other visual type devices. Tried to uninstall, reinstall drivers, nothing. I've done so many things to resolve this, but ask if I've done it anyway, please. Before I left for work earlier, I just gave up. I started the reformat process from the reset pc setting. After it finished I p... Read more

I have a laptop that is doing something strange. When the power adapter is plugged in, the light on the front of the laptop comes on and will stay on so long as it is charging the battery. When it's full, the light goes off and the system remains fully charged. However, windows does not show a status that reflects the fact that the power adapter is plugged in; it instead simply says the battery is at 100% with the battery symbol; NOT the power plug icon I've been accustomed to expecting when it's being powered by a cord.

Now, when I try to apply Windows 7 Service Pack 1, I get an error saying that the battery is low, with the button to Retry, but no matter what it seems to think that the battery is dying or something. The system runs just fine without the power attached, and even if I try to trick this little pre-update power check by unplugging the power for a minute, plugging it back in so as to force it to charge and hopefully notice that it is indeed plugged in, it doesn't help. So I can't apply Service Pack 1 for Windows 7.

Is there a way that I could perhaps force the system to not check on the status of the battery before applying updates?

Would removing the battery and leaving the system plugged in fix the problem (just thought of that; have to try it when I get home)?

Answer:Solved: Is there a way to force Windows Update to ignore the state of the laptop batt

I guessed correctly: The battery must have a strange issue with it where it's not reporting it's current charge state to the computer correctly. Removing the battery and running off the wall outlet only solved the problem, and SP1 was installed without a hitch.

Now if I could only get this built-in webcam to be shown in the device manager (suspect a hardware problem now)...

Question: BIOS wont update.

Hi everyone, I am trying to update my BIOS on my Lenovo IdeaCenter K330 Model 7727 from DKKT15AUS to DKJY15AUS. The reason for this is because my new GPU (Radeon RX 480 8GB) wont work. I install it and the computer just powers on but doesnt display anything. The fans all are on including those of the card. I have upgraded the power supply to 650W unit a few years ago from the ideacenter's original. So the BIOS update installs just fine but, once I restart the system it displays a error message saying: "Error: 0162 Setup data integrity check failure" along with 2 beeps. I restarted the system a couple times to see it the same error comes up and on the 3rd time the system started up without the error message. I then checked the BIOS version and it reverted back to the original version. I am not sure what to do to get the update to work. I do have windows 10 and the BIOS update is for windows 7. Not sure if that did have an effect. Thanks for reading.

We're in windows and i reattach my HDD and restart, and format the drive so my pc can use it. i then go to insert my motherboard CD into my optical drive (which I've left off in the build).
I've taken it from an old computer and it doesn't read the DVD drive, i assumed it didn't because it was old. i later discover i hadn't attached it correctly.
I restart my pc to see if i can find it, only for my PC to not get passed bios, i thought it was my optical drive, unattached, nothing. same with HDD.

Answer:ssd m.2 wont even boot to bios.

This isn't a Windows issue,, the problem is long before Windows even tries to start. With only the HDD you want to use, m.2 960 evo, attached reboot and tap the appropriate key to enter BIOS. If that has no effect, check motherboard manual for Boot Options menu, F12 possibly, and see if you get a menu of drives to boot from. What is listed here?
Is there a speaker attached to the motherboard, either via front panel connections or on the motherboard itself. Any beeps as the PC tries to boot can lead us to the issue.

Ok so, I got my hands on a free old PC. Its an Intel Celeron 328. It was running windows 98, but I took that off and began installing XP. While it was installing I hunted down some left over RAM chips that I had sitting around. It currently had one 64 mb chip and two open slots. I went out on a limb and filled both with 128mg chips... Except one was PC100 (same as the current one) and the other a PC133. (im guessing those are speeds)

Another piece to the problem might be that I turned the computer off to install the RAM while it was rebooting to finalize XP installation.

So, now the computer will turn on, and everything runs, but it wont even boot to the BIOS screen...its just black.

Did the faster RAM mess something up? Did not letting XP reboot mess something up? Or was it neither and the computer just died???

Question: Wont boot to bios

I damaged the front USB ports on my case, now the computer will not give any output, will not go into bios,no beeps.

CPU fan works, hard drive spins etc.I have disconected the front USB ports, reseated memory, video card and all other connections.

Any help appreciated

Answer:Wont boot to bios

how did you do it? with a drill?

when you reseated the *connections* did you plug the 4pin to the mobo? if not then do so , if you did then try reseting the cmos 2 ways

1) jumper , basicly theres 3 diffrent ways for it depending on the mobo so better download the PDF manual and have a look , the jumper method takes less time (about 10 secs)

2) battery - unplug the power cord and take out the battery for 20 mins then put it back (exactly the way it was, puting it upside down can damage the mobo) , plug the power cord and power up

eitherway, if it worked and you see some error in post like "bios checksum error" then get into the bios and load optimized/performance/setup defaults

Hey there.

I'm trying to reformat my friends computer and i'm running into some serious problems.

Basically :

My friend has TONS of viruses and spyware (even got a call from provider threating to cut off the internet) and basically wants a reformat.

Now I have the XP CD in and go into the BIOS and change the boot setup to CDROM --> HDD (It won't lemme actually put my boot menu in my own order, just from "Basic" Which is HDD --> CDROM and "advance" which is CDROM --> HDD)

Now I did not get ANY message saying "hit any key to boot from CD"

As well, I hit F10 for Boot Menu and choose the CD ROM and still nothing happens and it continues to load from the HDD.

Now when i'm actually in XP, it's funny, I look at the CD ROM drive in My Computer, and even though the XP disk is there, it shows NOTHING on the disk, it doesn't read it (and it worked before), I try to populate the drive, and I get nothing.

I have reformatted this computer before and it was easy, now, the 2nd time, it seems impossible.

Any Tips?

Guys the darn-est think happen today, I received a new Lenova ThinkPad W510 lab top from work and were in the process of migrating my data from the old one. I decided to update the system using Thinkvantage Update utility prior to loading any other apps I may require, and the last update in the lists was the BIOS which appears to have installed successfully and rebooted on its own. However after the reboot the system freeze at the BIOS screen for more than 40 mins. I tried pressing the Thinkvantage blue button but noting happen. I then proceeded to manually reboot the machine and now it just light up the power, audio buttons and go blank. The F1 function key does not work, in fact noting works. I check the system online and it has warranty up to 2013-03-16 in the USA but the number listed on the site does not seems to work for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Answer:ThinkPad W510 Wouldn't Boot After BIOS Update via Thinkvantage Update

Do you have *anything* plugged into the USB ports?  Try starting the computer after unplugging every peripheral attached. If that doesn't work, try unplugging all peripherals and power, and remove the battery.  Then press the power button 10 times in succession, and then press and hold power for 10 seconds.  Then put battery back and power cord, and try booting from there. The number I use for support is 1-800-565-3344, but I'm in Canada, so not certain it's the same for you. Good luck!

Hi,I recently updated my Inspiron 17R (7720) to the latest bios however as soon as it completed the process the battery stopped working. When I go into the bios there is the following message:"Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to the operational temperature". The machine has been left off for many hours now and is very cool to the touch however the battery wont engage and the issue persists between multiple battery packs (I have a backup battery too). As far as I can tell it is the bios that has broken my laptop and I am unable to fix it on my own. I have spent many hours trying to fix the issue at this point, following all of the advice that I can find on these forums. I suspect that either the bios has a bug or the laptop has a faulty sensor. Is anyone able to help?

I downloaded the Bios via Lenovo's site on my Yoga.  The Yoga was plugged in and the utility ran as expected.  After it restarted, it never came back.  The Function key was lit green and the keyboard would light up but the screen is black and it won't boot.  How can I troubleshoot? I already turned it off (after letting it sit there for a long time) and I get the same result.   I also tried unplugging it and hitting the reset button.  Still the same, its like it went into hibernation.  The power button is still on.

I just got a used Optiplex 160 (Model DC01T) with BIOS A06 and have tried everything to get it to update to BIOS A10, A09, A08 or A07.
I downloaded the unified DOS/Windows BIOS and put it on a FreeDOS USB stick.  When I run the package it goes through everything and then reboots but never actually updates the BIOS.  I have tried installing Linux on a USB Flash drive installing the Dell OMSA tools and use dellBiosUpdate pointing to the A09.HDR file.
For whatever reason that also fails because the dell_rbu module does not populate "/sys/class/firmware/dell_rbu/" like it should.  Also no amount of copying "init" to  "/sys/devices/platform/dell_rbu/image_type" helps correct that issue.
The only thing I can think of is that when the system reboots it goes to an "Alert Fan!" message because this unit did not come with the HD & Fan bracket.  I have one on its way but if that Alert/Error is clearing the BIOS update flag then everything should work once the fan arrives and I get that connected.
If that's not the case is there anything else I should try?

Answer:Optiplex 160 BIOS wont update (because the fan is missing?)

I finally got it  figured out if anyone is interested.  The fan error might be causing the normal update to fail but using a bunch of switches you can force the update to install and then reboot.

Answer:x200 tablet BIOS wont update

This is yet another example of why Lenovo has failed as a company to support its customer and why, after owning 5 of these systems and recommending them to companies and friends, I'm done. I also found this same error on the X200T. It is as if nobody tests these patch releases any longer. I also have a problem with the wireless LAN driver going out to lunch. All of a sudden the Lenovo wireless app shows a red X through the connection icon (lower right) and shows the radio as powered-off. I am unable to power it on. The only solution is to reboot. This is what I paid nearly $2K for on this particular machine.

Ok so i decided i would update my BIOS as i saw there was a new BIOS available at the dell website

I have a Inspiron 1100 2.2Cel, 512 Ram, 30GIG
I had a A29 BIOS and was updating to A30, So i downloaded and started the BIOS update it starts installing and has to restart as it restarts all is fine till it gets to the windows splash screen and it comes up with a certain boot file is missing in system32 ( I didn't get chance to see the specifics as i wasn't expecting a problem) and then straight away it restarts so the BIOS didnt finish installing and from then on it simply just keeps restarting at the splash screen

So i thought i would try Safe mode but the same problem, I then try putting my XP cd in and repairing the windows but still no luck so then i went and instaled a second XP which is now working fine, which relieved a bit as the Computer parse is working just not the original Windows

I now have access to the other windows install to be able to put the missing files in, But my main concern is getting "My Documents" as i have a lot of college stuff which isn't backed up on my USB drive, And when i go to get access it comes up with access denied because it's private

I have tried This
still didnt help

Tried copying some system32 files from the fresh install to the old see if the file might missing might have been added but still no luck

I did a virus scan and the scanner was able to scan the files in the "My Docume... Read more

Hello P1, welcome to the community,
clearly something is not right, have you called support to request assistance?  The phone number for support in South Africa is 0800-110-756; they are reachable 09:00 - 18:00  Monday - Friday.
That said, something you could try is to reset the system.  Remove the power cord and removable battery.  On the underside of the system is a reset hole, (Nr. 5 in the below illustration), insert a straightened paper clip and hold the reset button depressed for 3 seconds.  Once you have completed this please attach the power cord and see if the system starts normally.

Please let us know the outcome.

I have just updated my BIOS from 2.10 to 2.20 to try to overcome an overheating problem with Linux.
On rebooting the laptop XP will not start. I get the XP screen for a few seconds then the blue scrren of death flashes up beofre the laptop reboots. The blue screen is so quick it doesn't finish writing up the text - so I cannot see any numbers to check the error.

If I select Linux Mint from my GRUB screen the laptop starts correctly. I can also see the Windows partitions. I have tried to boot from an XP disc to run CHKDSK but I get to the stage where it says it is inspecting my configuration then hangs on a black / blank screen and just sits there.

Any ideas? Is it possible to roll back the BIOS?

Answer:Xp wont start after BIOS update on Satellite L

Yes, you can downgrade (rollback) if you have made a backup.

Can you enter the Bios and check if compatible mode enabled (after Bios update, it could put AHCI by default)?

When I hit "Y Enter" the screen went black and thats how its been ever since. Ive tried tapping delete on startup and the XP CD but nothing .. just the black screen! Any sugestions on what I can try? Thanx

Ps I've since read a number of reports refering to AMD chip tempretures being misread by bios's, sounds related maybe??

I'm a new member here, posting cuz my roommies got a fat problem and we can't figure it out. Basically, he built his computer a while ago, Asus A8N SLI MB, 1 gig ddr400 ram, 80gb hdd, geforce 6600gt pci express graphics card, antec case and a 420 W power supply. The computer had been working fine for the longest time. One day he went and replaced the chipset fan on the MB w/ an updated one from ASUS. After all was said and done and we put everything back, his computer won't boot up anymore, no video input whatsoever (the monitor won't come out of sleep mode, it doesn't pass teh POST i guess). We've tried replacing the motherboard, video card, memory, and even tested another power supply laying around (300 watts only, but i mean the computr should still boot, taht PS current runs a P4 and wat not no problems), but to no avail. We've also tried setting the motherboard on a phonebook and starting it up (making sure there are no shorts). Tried different monitors, everything...i've never dealt with such an issue before. Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I have a pretty big problem. My friend bumped my computer desk kinda hard (tripped on it) and it somehow reset the power to my computer. At the time, I was playing a pretty intensive game. The computer rebooted, and now the hard drive light is on constantly and the computer hangs at the menu screen before the BIOS. There's no power to my keyboard, so I cant press any function buttons to even try to access the boot menu. I've checked all the connections on everything - nothing fell out or got loose. I gave the computer about 10 minutes to cool down, but everything was running very cool to begin with.

If it's a hardware problem, I have recently (in the past week) installed a new slave hard drive and changed the thermal paste on my processor. And the RAM in my computer is kind of old, but the BIOS usually indicates bad RAM with a couple beeps. I'm perplexed. Any ideas? I can't afford a new computer.

heres the problem history:

-I wanted to install a PCI video card on this Socket 478 mobo and for some reason when booting with the new card ON the pc would freeze.

-So I checked the Bios Version and was an old one so I did an upgrade with the new version of the Bios. After flashing correctly as indicated in the mobo's manual I went in the CMOS settings and set it up to Optimal Settings and rebooted.

-the result: The system keeps asking me for the floopy disk with system to boot up and I noticed this message:

"CMOS/GPNV checksum Bad"

and I know most of the people would say try replacing the battery and I did and still getting the same problem so its not the battery.

when in a:/ I try to go to c: or e: and wouldnt recognize it. I also tried rebooting and going to the BIos again and tried to set the HD manually and its not there!

I have a dell XPS (one of the first versions from the early 2000's) running XP Pro . It has crashed alot recently and I was advised that it was probably a RAM issue. I ran 2 different RAM diagnostics (one Downloaded from microsoft one on the Dell Diag disk). Neither found a problem. I have had corrupted files and the windows repair wouldnt fix so I have had to do clean installs of windows.

Now the computer eont even load the Dell boot screen. All I get is the lights (three lights in middle above keyboard) come on the one with a letter A (I believe its a capslock light) flashes 5 times and then it shuts off. Never boots to even the Dell Bios screen.

It seems the system wont boot the operating system after the bios loads. Can I change the boot drive in the bios and see if the system loads from The D: drive? What else could be wrong??
Thanks in advance.

Answer:wont boot past bios.

You will have to determine yourself by going into the bios and checking itf it allows bootup from specific drives or not. You say you replaced the MB an CPU, did you reformant and reload the OS and Programs over again or simply place the old HDs into the new system? If you did not do a clean install, the old paramaters for the board and system are still listed in Windows and there is a conflict between what was and what is now seen on bootup. You state that C:\ and D:\ drives are exact copies of each other. If your saved information is indeed identical between the 2drives, I would use a Win98 boot disk, Fdisk, Format and reinstall your OS on the C:\ drive. When setup the way you want, simply copy over the data from the D:\ drive. You will still need to reinstall the Programs as they dont just copy from one drive to another. If the old system was still available, while in Safe Mode, you could have gone onto System>Device Manage Tab and near the bottom, remove everything under System then transfer the HD from the old to new. Windows would have then looked for the misssing system components and installed the new stuff. Just curious also about the comment that you have a C:\+D:\ HDs and G:\ Cd-rom. What happened the the E:\ and F:\ drives?

This time however all I can get to is the press f2 to go to setup screen, I can get to the bios but when I exit or if I don't go to the bios, all I get is a blank screen with a flashing underscore in the top left corner.
No boot options, nothing.

After a BIOS update, you should clear the CMOS settings, and then reset to the default settings. This ensures that the CMOS is in uncorrupted state before you try to start up.I hope you did the correct BIOS update for your board. If you didn't, or it didn't work correctly, you may have rendered your m/b totally inoperable.

I have no idea what happened to my Y410p while using it just shutdown and when I try to boot it it cant even Load to Lenovo icon or bios or windows, the keyboard and indicator lighted a while and it'll shutdown. Tried many times about resting bios method by pressing power button but wont help. Just happened today. One more question, if the fan's not moving, besides hardware factor will the software like system corrupt or lack something will cause the fan not moving? Its because I just bought it around half a year ago. Anyone who answer will be much appreciated.

Answer:Y410p wont boot up to bios

I am assuming that you tried this full procedure..........
1. Unplug the charger / adapter 2. Remove the battery. 3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.
If that didn't work then I would suggest calling Lenovo Support for warranty service.  The fan may not be working because the laptop hasn't powered up to the point where the fan is activated or it could be that the fan is defective and no longer works.  If the fan didn't work prior to this problem it would explain why the laptop shut down.
You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....

Well, I really should have left well enough alone. But I'd been running 1.15 on my P70 (with no problems) and decided enough time had gone by that the latest 1.21 update was probably stable and usable, and should be problem-free.
Unfortunately, now that I've updated the BIOS (successfully) I can no longer boot. The process just hangs at the "press ENTER to interrupt the normal boot process".  ENTER doesn't work, nor does F12.  Nothing works.
Of course the original 500GB HDD spinner boot drive on my P70 has long ago been replaced with two 512GB Samsung 950 Pro NVMe drives in the M.2 bay (with NVMe0 set as the boot drive in the BIOS STARTUP list), and a 512GB 850 Pro SSD in the primary 2.5" bay.  950 Pro NVMe1 and 850 Pro SSD are both for "data".
Now the last time I did a BIOS update from the original 1.11 which arrived in the machine to 1.15, I had the same hang at boot time.  And ENTER didn't work.  But F12 did work, and I was finally able to get into the "choose boot drive" dialog of the BIOS and specify NVMe0, and it took off and I was back operating again.  I then re-entered the BIOS to specify that NVMe0 was the boot drive, and from that point on everything worked properly and normally again.  Didn't need to use ENTER or F12, it just booted properly again from NVMe0.
Well, this doesn't work now that I've updated from 1.15 to 1.21.  BIOS does not boot (it's probably reset the STARTUP boot order to default,... Read more

Check this thread. Maybe it helps:

Otherwise you need help from authorized service provider available in your country.

I have bought my wife a Toshiba L300-20D ( PSLB8E-0CK00YEN ). It came with Vista loaded which she cannot get on with.

My grandson offerred to sort it out. He fitted a new hard drive, loaded it with XP and managed to get nearly all the drivers working with the exception of the WiFi .

After spending many hours he decided to update the bios from v1.8 to v1.9. Since then it wont start.. It comes up with the Toshba screen, Start windows normally, it then tries to load windows, flashes and starts the cycle al over.

He has tried the default settings, tried an XP disc, setting it to start on disc, nothing. It does just the same in safe mode.

Any suggestions will be appreciated

Answer:Satellite L300-20D - After BIOS update it wont start now

Did you set the SATA Mode to "Compatibility" when installing XP? (You would see a BSOD with the code 0x0000007B - if Automatic Restart is disabled from the Windows boot menu)

The BIOS update would have reset it back to SATA AHCI Mode. So set it to Compatibility again.

If that doesn't work, try a System Restore in Safe Mode to return the registry back to a previous date.

Hi I updated my Lenovo ThinkCentre m92p tiny 3237-A1G to the BIOS version 9SKT59A.I use an OCZ SSD with GRUB2 and Linux/Win7 dual boot (GPT/UEFI) without any problem. After the BIOS update there was SecureBoot enabled and I couldn't obviously boot GRUB2.Then I disabled SecureBoot and changed the Boot order, but when I try to include the SSD with x it disappears in the list of the excluded boot devices but don't appear in the included devices. Now I am only able to boot via USB stick where a grub2 is also installed. I am pretty sure this is a BIOS bug!Anyone else can confirm that or solved such a probem? Cheersmijenix

Answer:M92p Tiny - no Disk boot after update BIOS to 9SKT59A (dual boot Linux/Win7) GPT/EFI

Hello, I also have same problem on Lenovo M92p 3212-BL3 with BIOS version 9SKT39A. I use an OCZ SDD Vertex 2 with Windows 7 x64 only. The SSD disappears from the list on included and excluded boot SATA devices. The SATA ports still appears but with empty device.  It seems BIOS issue, hope Lenovo will fix this issue ASAP.

Question: Helppppppppppppp

I'm a bit LOSTED in here for an OLD senior.well here goes.I had to buy a new processor but kept my old monitor and speakers. I got a H P processor A6418f and have Windows Vista and A O L.
The problem is my speakers don't seem to work now with this new processor. Can anyone help me ?I know very little about comp.
Thank you all.

It would help if you mention the brand and model of the computer. That way, some of us can check things like the motherboard. You might have to install drivers for the motherboard to get the sound to work. It could be a sound chip on the motherboard.

In the future, it also helps to make your title meaningful. Obviously everyone comes here for help. A lot may pass over your thread because you didn't state the problem. Something like "new chip, no sound" would be more helpful and probably get more help than just typing help with extra letters.

Question: helppppppppppppp

i messed up i done a system recovery instead of a restore and lost all my files and pictures and music .... how do i get them back

I'm afraid that you chances of gettin your files back now are slim.

There are certain software packages that you can use to try and recover files with, but all names and folders will be lost and it may not be able to recover everything. If the stuff you had was not really important it is not worth the hastle of trying to recover it.

Motherboard: Asus p8z68 v-le
Ram:1600ddr3 2x4gb kingston
video card: gtx460
CPU: intel5 2500k with hyper 212
PSU: basiq 550w+
OS:windows 7 professional 32 bit(going to upgrade to 64 bit soon)

i just finished building my rig and i dont get any beeps except for one which indicates the successful post. my problem is my motherboard go's straight to bios and when i exit bios it restarts and go's right back. ive checked all the cables, had the ram replaced, cpu fan was installed correctly, everything is normal. i don't know why it wont continue forward. although i dont have a cd-drive because my old one is a IDE cable version and the new motherboard i got doesn't support it, could this be a problem? i always booted from the harddrive also.

Answer:motherboard wont boot past bios

If you don't have an optical drive, how did you install the OS on your hard drive for the new computer? If you are trying to boot to a hard drive that has Win 7 installed on it while it wa in a different computer, it isn't going to work anyway, New motherboard requires clean istallation of Windows 7.

So the other day i decide to play around witht he BIOS on my P5NSLI, and changed a couple settings. One was to change the northbridge to southbridge frequency or something from 3x to 4x? I think... Another was using Asus's AI overclocking feature, and i set it to a 5% overclock. When i first rebooted it looked like it was working fine. but then it locked up about 5 seconds into the memory test and hasnt worked since. I didnt smell anything burning, and i checked my processor for burn marks and nothing was there. I've tried to clear the CMOS multiple times. The most success i have had soo far was holding down delete and it actually saying it was loading the BIOS, but only to find it was frozen shortly after. During all of this I moved the MB and stuff onto my desk, hooked it all up and now it doesnt even show the boot screen. (The one with the pic that said AI something something...) I've tried 2 sepereate monitors and neither seem to be working with either HDMI or VGA plugin on either graphics cards. I did however notice that the Northbridge was getting hot when i put the back of my hand to it. So i rigged up a house fan to try and help keep things cool.

Any help is appreciated.

Asus P5NSLI motherboard
Stock cooling on Processor, n/s bridges.
2gb Kingston pc5300 667Mhz Ram. (2x 1g)
Dual PCI-E EVga 7600GT graphics cards
Cant remember the processors part number, but it's a Pentium D 2.8Ghz w/ 2mb cache.
Running on a 19" and a 22" BenQ flat panels.

Answer:Failed overclocking, now wont go to BIOS or boot.

Try removing the battery and disconnecting the mobo psu cables and letting it chill out.

I had a similar problem with my p5b deluxe and just had to disconnect everything and wait overnight.

Quite annoying, I really miss my DFI lanparty ultra-d....

I have a computer that I am putting together and when I put in one power supply the cpu fan turns on by itself but no bios beep and no display on the monitor, when i put another power supply in and push the power button nothing happens, the power switch cable is in the right spot. I have the motherboard out of the case with just the cpu/ram/power supply hooked up to it, the mobo is lying on the static sheet so there is no possibility of it grounding out. I dont know what the hell is wrong. The mobo is a chaintech 7KJD, does anyone know if there is a special jumper that is protecting the CMOS that I am not seeing?

Answer:NO BIOS beep, computer wont boot

Firsly, "static sheets" can be very conductive. Thats how they equalise/dissipate static.

They are NOT an insulator in many cases!

Several times recently I have powered up my PC from cold and it has failed to post, i.e. no BIOS. The fans all come on (PSU, CPU, graphics & case) and the HD light comes on, and I get a single beep. Then nothing more. After a while the HD light goes off, sometimes the CD drive lights come on, and stay on. I then turn the power off fully and leave it 10 secs or a minute and try again. After several attempts I usually give up, and when I try again maybe 10 mins or an hour later, it may, or may not fire up. When it has booted(as it just has), everything seems absolutely fine. Its a MESH built, fairly high spec 2 yr old with XPSP2, 2Gb ram, 550W PSU, 8800gt, 4800+cpu. Clearly something is wrong/on its way out, but what to check first to stop this seemingly random, intermittent and highly irritating problem? I'm sure one day it'll stop completely, but until it does I can't really send it back to MESH, as sods law dictates it will work perfectly for them. Everything seems to be properly connected/seated, and the PSU happily runs the graphics at full load etc when the PC is running, so I don't think its that. Could the BIOS be corrupted - but then why would it work sometimes and not others? Could it be RAM related? The problem has only started in the last couple of weeks. A new HD, and new graphics card were installed couple of weeks before the problem started (with no immediate problems), so that may, or may not have something to do with it.

Answer:randomly wont boot, no bios, then fine!

do you no what bios you have got ie. award or ami etc....

Hi there guys!

Its a Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop.
512mb ram 80gb hdd etc etc

when i turn it on it i hear the fan start, the cd drive makes a noise as if trying to boot but the screen stays black. I have tested the screen...all ok. Occassionally i can get the bios screen on (like once in a hundred boots).

I recieved an error message about memory. I read other forums that suggested i used 1 x 256mb ram instead of two. this was no luck either.

Please help.

Thanks in advance to anyone and everyone who helps me.

Answer:Dell Inspiron wont boot OS, no bios...HELP!

did you try both sticks, individually in all slots? if not then give that a try.

if you have then see if you can get a hold of some other memory to test with.

I have 8gb corsair vegeance RAM, I bought a new pair of the same type and when I tried to install it to my PC and when I powered it on, the monitor menu said nothing is connected, the PC kept turning on and off and I couldn't even turn it off manually, I had to turn off the power supply.

I took out the new pair of RAM, and my PC bios gave me an error screen (detecting hardware) and said "overclock failed" and to reset the bios settings.

I didn't overclock the RAM or the processor so I don't understand why it said that.

I have an asus z97m-plus motherboard and 2x4gb corsair vengeance RAM, the new pair of RAM is also 2x4gb corsair vengeance, all of them are clocked at 1600mhz.
What I noticed though is that my RAM is clocked at 1333 mhz by default (I didnt change anything) which is weird because and it should be 1600mhz (?).

So how can I make the new pair of RAM work? I couldn't do anything with the new RAM because the screen was black - didn't even get to post probably - so yeah.

First congrats on an excellent forum and helpful members. I have used the info this site loads of times before reading past threads and until now have never needed to post...

So here goes.
I have just installed a fresh (not new) hard drive in my system which is;
Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo P5600
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
2GB Ram
160GB SATA Hard drive
XP Pro SP3

The drive had XP already installed but was configured for an Athlon Dual Core system so i did a clean install. Deleted all partitions then created a new partition with NTFS file system (the slow method to check for disk errors)

Then i installed XP pro Sp2 all done from Fujitsu operating system recovery CD.
All went flawlessly and was working great.
Next day i went to boot and the splash screen came up with Fujitsu Siemens on it and the F2 or F12 options and the blue progress meter. The progress meter got to half way and then hung for about 2 mins and a black screen came up with a load of writing on and the message;

pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable
operating system not found

I did read a thread on techguy about this but it didnt solve my problem and my symptoms are quite different.

If when i see the splash screen i immediately press F2 to go to bios setup i can enter setup and view all settings. The HD is present and boot priority set to Hard drive. I then exit without saving or changing anything and it boots into windows and works fine.

If i do a restart from windows it boots fine. Its only when i shut down and re... Read more

I wasn't sure if this should be in the XP forum or hardware bios forum, so forgive me for making a double post.

I flashed new bios and now my computer wont boot. It gets to the loading windows screen, then flashes a blue screen so quick I cant read it and reboots.

Is there anything I can do to get it up and running again?

I'm running windows XP with a Pentium D, and AOpen i945Pa-PLF motherboard.

How to perform a Repair Installation of Windows? XP.

Two things are needed here, just a bit of old technology, an ink pen and a piece of paper to write down any special settings that might have to be changed back after the repair-installation is completed.

Please Note: Performing a "Repair Installation" in this manner should not delete any Personal Files, it should 'repair' the core of the installation but to be safe with your data you should follow the next two paragraphs.

You might have to remove the hard drive from this computer and install it in another computer as a slave drive and after it is able to be accessed by Windows on that computer you will have to manually backup all of your important data that you have to another media like CD-R's, DVD or external hard drive. Then when this is done return it to the original computer as a master drive on the primary IDE cable. and do the following:

The details that follow require an above-average understanding of the technical topics involved. If you do not understand the Registry material presented here, either find a technically knowledgeable friend or do not attempt to repair your system Registry yourself. Improper changes in the System Registry can render all data on your hard disk inaccessible. :

Here is a link to a registry backup program that is absolutely fantastic it is called ERUNT and you would use this to backup the registry after running the r... Read more

hello everyone,

Im currently a new pc builder and just finished putting together my pc. Currently I'm using a MSI H110 Gaming mobo and I'm able to enter bios. I made a bootable usb drive with windows 8.1 on my mac with OS X el-capitan. Ive changed the boot order to my USB. The issue is that the Bios recognizes my USB but it won't boot windows 8.1 os. Im not entirely sure if its because i made the drive on a mac or if the settings on the bios that are needed to support windows 8.1 install.

Answer:Bios Wont Boot my Bootable USB with Windows 8.1

Why not use the windows dvd/usb tool?
You can use this OR the media creation tool which I believe works for 8 as well as 10.
