R51 Wireless keeps turning off and back on. Internet signal fine - 2nd computer works fine.

Question: R51 Wireless keeps turning off and back on. Internet signal fine - 2nd computer works fine.

I have searched for this problem and can't find it anywhere. Every few minutes my IBM Access Connections keeps shutting down, then restarting all by itself. I usually don't have to do anything to restart it, but once in a while it takes too long to restart, so I reconnect manually. I don't know if it makes any difference, but it didn't happen until I downloaded Google Chrome. I've installed Service Pack 3, but no change. And while I'm at it, my laptop will no longer restart when I click "restart". It just powers off. Anyhelp would be appreciated. Preferred Solution: R51 Wireless keeps turning off and back on. Internet signal fine - 2nd computer works fine.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, thatīs a strange behavoir. It seems that google chrome had problems with AC and interferred with it.I would suggest uninstall and then install google chrome. See if AC is functioning as designed when google is uninstalled. Or try to download the newest verson of AC from driver page of Lenovo.Look at the link supports&downloads, on the very top of this page! greetsAndreas

Linksys PCI G Wireless Adapter has stopped working after a semester at college. The network was wired there, so my desktop was plugged into it for 3 months, but the adapter itself was safe.
It worked before I left for college, and I just got back, set everything up again, and it is detected in device manager, I enabled, disabled, reinstalled drivers after removing the old ones, and tried installing and uninstalling it.

When at college, because this is a Vista machine, I had to update my drivers that manage my wired connection, because they were not working when I first got to college. I was wondering if this may be the cause of the problem.

Answer:Wireless fine, wired fine, back to wireless, not fine.

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

Dell Latitude D520 running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3. Everything about this laptop works fine except for its wireless ethernet. Even the wireless ethernet works fine when accessing the internet and when downloading files; but, when accessing the LAN, I get 'access denied' sometimes and other times I get sl-o-o-o-o-w transfers of files and messages telling me the files I'm copying or running are corrupt.

Example: I attempted to copy a file across my LAN to this laptop. On the WiFi, it copied very slowly for about 10 minutes or so and finally aborted when the bar graph showed about 20% complete. On the wired ethernet, the same file copied successfully in about 12 seconds.

I've checked the settings for the wired and wireless NIC and I can't find any differences.

To be clear, the wired LAN does fine for both internet and LAN access. The wireless ethernet works fine for the internet and presents the problem only when accessing the LAN.

Answer:Solved: Wireless works fine for internet but not for LAN

"when accessing the lan" ???

do you have multiple machines on a lan that you are trying to transfer files from???

If yes are they all on the same workgroup????

I just had a quick question. I have a wireless N adapter on my PC and I have never had any trouble. I switched ISP's and they brought out a new router and now my network always says 'identifying', and will only say 'connected' every 5 minutes or so, and will only stay connected for maybe 2 seconds tops. What I find weird is even when the network says it's identifying the internet works just fine, 25ms ping on speedtest. Signal strength is 4 out of 5 bars. I'm not too concerned since everything works just fine, but I was wondering if anyone knows what is up with this new phenomenon.

Answer:Wireless always 'identifying' but internet works fine??

Uninstall network adapter, reinstall adapter.

Then reinstall drivers

Reset the ip stack after you do that

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt in elevated cmd prompt

I just got a brand new computer with wireless capabilities. After some configuring, i am connected to my home network, but i cant connect to the internet that is set up on the host computer. i have already checked all the settings on my computer, disabled the firewall (because i have windows xp sp2), and reset the router twice. i am just wondering what else could be the problem. could the local area connection have something to do with it? please help.

Answer:Wireless Network Works Fine, But Cant Get On Internet

How did you attempt to hook up so far? Did you try this:

start > control panel > network connections > wireless network setup wizard
~~~~~~
Or this on the host computer:
start > control panel . network connections > setup or change your work or home network setup
Run the wizard, choose "This computer connects directly to the internet. The other computers on my network connect to the internet through this computer"
~~~~~~~~

Wait a minute. Upon rereading your original post, I need to know what you are using a router for. Is it a wireless router? If so, then your new computer is not connecting to the internet through the 'host' computer, but rather through the router.

I shall await your answers.

I'm sure this has been asked 1000 times but I cannot seem to find my exact issue anywhere. Hopefully this helps myself and anyone who runs into this issue.

To start, I have Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Everything worked 100% fine with absolutly no issue and then.... I moved. Now we have Fios instead of Comcast.

Now to the issue. When I have the ethernet connected I cannot get internet access but I have full network access. I went out and purchased a new wirless card and wirless works just fine. I tested 2 different cables, recrimped both of them and nothing. I have activity on the PC and the Router so I am sure they are good.

I have tried everything I have read online, Updated Realtek Family PCI Ethernet drivers from MSIglobal. Disabled/Enabled. ipconfig /flushdns, /release and /renew. I went as far as Backing up and reformating the Hard Drive and before reinstalling the backup I tested it and nothing. Restored my backup file and yep.. nothing.

Its kind of frustrating. I'm not exactly and expert but i am in no way a novice either. This one has me stumped. Im thinking maybe it is a windows service that is not set to start correctly but I figured I would creat a post while I am at work and maybe have and answer to test before I hunt through the services tonight.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Thanks

I hooked up a brother MFC-790CW fax/scan/printer to my wireless/wired belkin router. I have a desktop that is hardwired to the router and it can access the MFC-790 with no problems and in several different configurations. BUT, the laptop just won't talk to it. WHY? The laptop has no trouble connecting to the router and accessing the internet. I have installed all of the MFC-790 software. The laptop successfully pings each entitiy on my network. So, I'm stumped. The laptop has a Marvel Yukon wireless adapter. Maybe there are some issues there. I don't know. My laptop is using Windows XP. Do I need to upgrade it to Vista or windows 7? I thought that maybe I needed a print server or a residential gateway, but the guys at the geek squad said "no, it should work". I have since found that the MFC-790 has a printer server in it. So that is not the problem. I suspect that the laptop would access the printer just fine if I wired it to the router. So I think that the wireless aspect of this puzzle is where I need to focus. But I can't see why the laptop can access the internet wirelessly through the router but not the printer. Would love any input on this. Thanks.

Hello, I am new here. I have an HP Pavilion entertainment laptop. Everything was functioning just fine. Then, windows update happened. It was a critical update that cannot be undone. I performed the update. Immediately after all of the preinstaled HP software quit working. I fought and fought and I have most of it working again but all of it is very buggy and crashes a lot. HP Help and support and HP health no longer work. I had to install the vista versions and I run them in compatibility mode. They still don't work rite. Another critical update was released and then my internet port on the side stopped working. My laptop cannot connect to the internet through it but will via wireless. In the hardware manager my internet card shows up as the driver failing to load. It is Realtek PCB family controller. Uninstalls and re installs don't work. I even used a registry cleaner (registry first aid) to uninstall it so as to remove all the registry keys. Letting windows try to install the driver fails as does letting the realtek software try. Also, every reinstall just adds a number to the end of it. I am on Realtek (3) now. I need to get this driver to work but it will not. I am not seeing a whole lot about it so I guess this isn't a common problem. Everything else I have works fine so far as I can tell. I also tried using the file browser to hunt down all things realtek related and delete them. Windows just gives me the new hardware box, puts back what I del... Read more

Answer:Wired internet jack not working but wireless works just fine

Run Windows System Restore - choose a restore point prior to the installation of the Windows Update you mentioned -
START | type rstrui

What is the exact model number of the HP laptop - look on the label on the bottom.

Registry cleaners are unnecessary and can cause registry damage -

My desktop (windows 7 ultimate 64bit) has been able to connect fine to the internet until I got home from work this morning. My laptop is connecting to the same modem fine through wireless (along with my wii). The modem I am using is Motorola SB 901. When I rightclick my connection on my desktop and hit troubleshoot problems, I get 'local area connection 2 doesn't have a valid ip configuration'. Same thing happens when I switch the ethernet cord to local area connection 1. When I go to control panel, network and internet, network and sharing, the connection map at the top stops between my pc and the network (which is now labeled as 'unidentified network').

Here is a list of what I have done so far to try and resolve the issue:

1. Replaced the ethernet cord with one I know is working
2. Full scanned my pc for viruses
3. Disabled all firewalls and virus protection programs
4. Restored my pc to a previous save state
5. Reset winsock with cmd via these prompts: netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log hit
6. This attempt is unfinished as I am getting stuck. I am attempting to setup a static ip to attempt to resolve the issue, but when I open cmd and type ipconfig/all, the default gateway under my local area connection is completely blank.

Hi guys,

So around 4 weeks ago, I got a new router and internet. The internet is working great for everyone on every device except for my computer. For some reason, my internet is not consistent with its ping (and this is just on my computer, the internet works great with my iphone). It almost seems like for every 1 minute of good internet I have, I have 10 or so minutes where the internet just stinkss. I am posting this on one of those good minutes. The problem started after I, 1. Got a new graphics card, and 2. Changed my antivirus software from Avira to Malwarebytes. If you guys need any more info just ask .

Thanks!

Hi,

On my desktop computer, all access to the internet is blocked except for one program. (Slavanap). people can log into me there, Also, it seems my windows firewall somehow got disabled.
It did not start that way though, At first, It seemed that I could just not use windows Explorer, everytime I would open it it would crash, but using google chrome, it worked fine. then slowly that stopped working as well, and I started using Mozilla firefox that i had on the computer and it worked ok till I rebooted. now nothing works except for that one program, slavanap.

I did a windows network diagnostics and everything passed except the DNS and HTTP, HTTPS, FTP connectivity. They all failed.
So it seems i have a DNS failure on all levels of the test. The HTTP part of th test fails on all levels as well. everything else passes
Under HTTP, HTTPS test,  I get an error 12007 "The address could not be resolved.

My laptop can access the internet, though without a problem via the same modem, so I am assuming that It is not the modem and it is not my service provider, but rather some kind of malware on the computer that changed settings and disabled my firewall. It is greyed out so it cannot be turned on. When I tried to turn it on another way it told me the firewall service was off and when it tried to turn it on it failed. It said it is controlled by group policy.  I checked group policy and I do not see anything that is disabled.

Hey,

I've been doing some online gaming (world of warcraft), and I kept getting these Error#131 issues. This would cause the game files to become corrupted and then I would have to repair, or reinstall. The WoW tech site says that chronic error #131 messages are either a Hard drive, Ram, or Motherboard issue.

Running the Windows Vista memory diagnostic tool has turned up some odd results, the initial test with a 1gb stick in slot #1 and a 1gb stick in slot #2 came back with errors. I then removed the ram from slot 2 and ran the test on slot 1 with 1 stick of ram.... no errors. I did the same with the other stick in slot 1.....no errors. this lead me to believe that it was slot#2 giving me the issue so I moved the ram from slot 2 to slot 3, thus having 1gb of ram in slot 1 and 1gb of ram in slot 3. After a little while......error#131 appeared.

So I then tested both sticks in slots 1 and 3 together and came back with ram errors, I then tested both sticks in slot #1, and then again in slot #2 and both tests came back fine. Any ideas on what this issue could be? I know both sticks are the same brand, speed, totally identical.

Answer:Ram Works fine in single sticks, not working fine together :P

Hi,
I will try to explain my problem that I have although I am a novice...
I have a Toshiba laptop, 32bit Vista Home Premium.
I have had an internet connection through modem for a while, everything is good. Now I bought a Linksys WRT54G router, to be able to use the laptop with wireless. Did the setup, all was good, then suddenly no more connection.
Tried to reset the modem, the router and restart the laptop, got a connection again, but it went after 5-10 minutes, just simply stopped working. I still am connected, but it says "local only" and once "limited connectivity".
When I then connect the laptop directly to the modem with a cable, I have internet.
So the router seems fine, modem obviously, too.
What could be the problem that it always says "local only" all of a sudden, although I know there is internet???
Thanks for your help.

I just setup a wireless USB adapter on my sister's PC (WinXP). It worked fine, until she rebooted. Now she can't get on the internet.

The wireless signal is excellent at 100%, but browsers aren't connecting.

I looked in Network Connections, and there's 4 networks. 1394 Connections 1-3.
Connections 1 & 2 are doing nothing, but 3 is the one showing the wireless connection (and it looks to be working fine). The fourth network is Local Area Connection, which is doing nothing.

What can I do to fix this?

Answer:Signal strength fine, but no internet.

If youre using wireless, the only one that should be connected is the wireless adapter in network connections.

try this -
type CMD into the run window
Command prompt should come up
type IPCONFIG/ALL

Let me know what that info says.

I recently purchased a new laptop from PC World which has Windows 8 on (recently upgraded myself to 8.1) and was set up in store by their 'Knowhow' team.
My laptop connects to the router fine (this is confirmed as I can access the laptop on other devices such as my old laptop or my smart TV) however there is either no internet access, or I have access for 2-3 minutes and then no further access.
If I connect to the router via an ethernet cable there are no issues at all and I have connected to my university wireless routers and routers at a friends house with no issues.
There are no issues when accessing the internet through the wireless with the other devices in my home so I'm assuming the issue lies with the wireless link between my laptop and router however after searching forums for this type of issue I haven't been able to fix the issue. I have already tried a few things however I'm happy to do these again and post the results if needed to cross fixes off the list.
If it helps, my laptop is a Samsung 5 series NP540U3C-AO2UK and the router is NetGear, provided by Virgin Media who also provide our internet.
Thanks in advance!

Having issues with one of my PCs in my Home Network. I run DSL/Wireless Router and all my wireless devices run good but my ethernet connection on my Main PC's has issues. Hard to explain but it seems to work fine after booting machine but after a short while of surfing, it loses speed. It doesn't lose connection, just speed. Have done multiple speed tests and the same bad results. I have tested my laptop on the ethernet connection and seems to work fine. Replaced the PCI ethernet adapter in the machine and did not fix the problem. Tried all ports on the router, same results. Any assistance would be great!

Hi, this my first time posting and I really would refrain from bothering people if I could, but I've been having this issue with my wireless for the last month so I thought perhaps someone could help.

The OS is a Windows XP home.

I go into IPCONFIG/ALL and it tells me that my wireless is disconnected

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.
I've tried going into the router (it's a NETGEAR MR814) IP, and I've added it to the list of devices that can connect to it, but it's not working. It just... won't work. It's not that there's a security lock on my router because I've disabled it and it still wouldn't work.

So now I'm completely befuddled, and disheartened, and on the verge of just taking apart my machine were it not for the ethernet connection. Can someone please help?

Answer:Ethernet works fine, Not Wireless

First try going into network property and see if you can see it.
If you see something like "Local Area connection 2" with wireless network card, right click on the icon and view available network/connection.
If you see your wireless router setting, highlight and click "Connect".

Hi there,

Not sure if this should be a networking or a operating system question, I guess it's a little of both.

Here's what's happening. I have a cable modem going to a wireless router. My PC(1) is plugged by wire into the router; another pc(2) and Mac Powerbook running wireless. Everything was running great until roommate was using PC1 a couple days ago. Now PC1 will not connect to anything but PC2 and laptop run fast and fine on wireless. I have cleaned with SpyBot and Ad-Aware, as well as Avg in Safe Mode and nothing comes up (usually that's all I have to do to fix it). I checked winipcfg and my network adapter is there with an ip address but if i release, it will not find another ip to renew. Also tried to restore to a couple days ago, no dice.

Here's where it get's weird. If I click just about any folder (my computer, my documents, my network), I get a fatel errod saying that Explorer has made a fatel error and will shut down. I click okay and it just goes back to the desktop, but doesn't shut down.

Roommate talked to ISP tech support (before i knew about the issue) and they were no help aside form wanting to send someone out, which i know is a waste of time since the connection to the modme is fine and that's all they will touch.

Anybody have any ideas? Computer with issue is running Win 98SE (I know I know...it sucks but i never use it anymore...that's why rommmate was using it. haha).

Hello all,

Straight to the issue:

My internet has been fine, for a while now... then all of a sudden i am not getting a signal...

what i know:
- there were no cable outages in my area
- i have a 2:1 cable splitter in my room (1 for tv and 1 for the modem)
- when i plug the cable from the jack right into the modem it works
- thinking the splitter might be bad i went and purchased a new splitter.
- i have tested multiple wires from the splitter to the modem

So i am not sure what i can do to resolve this issue... why would my modem not detect a signal coming from a splitter all of a sudden?

Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks ahead of time everyone!

Hi all.
First of all, I want to thank you guys in advance for putting your time and effort to solve my issue. any answer would be grateful to me.

My internet provider is At&t and as I mentioned in the title, wireless internet works perfectly fine, but Ethernet connection doesn't work on my desktop. Currently I am using wireless adapter on my PC, and it works just fine. I tried disabling the wireless connection, resetting the modem, re installing the Ethernet driver and anything I can think of.

The odd thing is that my brother used Ethernet connection just fine with his desktop about three weeks ago, with same router and same cable. So I am assuming that my computer is the one with the problem but I can't figure it out why.

I'm going to try out the different cable tomorrow, but I highly doubt it will fix my problem.

Help me guys. If you need any other information, ask away. I will give it to you as much as I can

Attachment file is my network and sharing center status unidentified network is my ethernet connection

Here is my ipconfig /all result

Answer:Wireless works fine, Ethernet doesn't

Odds are that the NIC has failed.

Another low possibility (in addition to cable and router LAN port) are the PC's firewall or security suite misconfigured or corrupted.

Another thing to try: in Device Manager right click on the ethernet - Properties - Advanced tab - for the 'Speed & Duplex' property try different values beginning with '100 Mbps full duplex' and '10 Mbps full duplex.'

I dont remember this much trouble before.

I have been connected via wireless due to i needed the lan for another comp.

It has been hooked up to lan before.

The other comp isn't using the lan so i went to plug in my old vista.

Now it wont get on the internet.

It can see the other computers connected but it can't network to them....it can just see them.

The lan is enabled. But it says limited access if that means anything.

In order to use the internet i must use my wireless.

My Vista has never failed to fail yet

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey everyone -

I can follow directions and am fairly tech-savvy, just don't have the time to troubleshoot this stuff and run my business. Here's the rundown:

Router: Cisco Linksys E1000 V2
-working fine until I unplugged to move it and plugged it in
-verified with tech support the problem is not physical
-right now, am hardwired to the router, which is hardwired to the cable modem, and connectivity is fine through hardwiring

-no luck through wireless - this is the error message I get:

This webpage is not available:
The server at www.google.com can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.

How do I fix this - I suppose it's some simple setting somewhere, just don't know where to go to or what to change. Thanks in advance for your help!

Dan

Hey Guys,
I have a Linksys WAP54g v.2 Wireless access point.
It connects fine, my internet works, i can see my network across it but I can't log into it to configure it. I have lost the set up disk but I thought you could just goto the IP address and set it up directly??
When I type in the IP address I belive it to be it just gives me the old 'page cannot be diplayed' error.
You may ask why I am playing around if it all works, well when I first set it up I didn't secure it (yes my head is looking down in shame) and I'm just trying to secure the signal.

Any idea's would be most handy!

Mucho thanks

Hi guys, I connect to my router using a Netgear WG111v3 USB adapter with WPA security. It works fine for about 5-10 minutes then websites won't load anymore. I am using Vista so I can't use my onboard network card because Vista doesn't support WPA
I can ping websites still which makes me wonder where the problem lies. For example I can go on google fine, then later I can't connect again but I can still ping it. That goes for all other websites even if I haven't gone on them that boot. Anyone got any ideas what is going wrong? Because it makes no logical sense for this to be happening. Thanks.

Answer:Internet works fine, then

So later you can still ping google, but it will not let you view google using your browser?

I bought a Belkin G Wireless Router about 8 months back.

Starting a few weeks ago, I've had to set a static IP address to my recently built computer (sitting at 192.168.2.10 right now) for it to not disconnect every few minutes.

I then noticed that no wireless devices (tested with 2 Laptops and Ipod Touch) could connect. If I restarted the router and did NOT connect anything to it, it would connect with local access only. If I attempt to set the router up using the CD that came with the packaging, it claims it cannot connect to the internet, and then proceeds to actually kick me off the net.

Does anyone have any clue what coulda caused this?

As far as I know, I've not changed anything.

I have an Ideapad U330 that will not get online using ethernet in windows. Before you ask, no it isnt my router. When I use an Ubuntu bootable disk, the ethernet works fine and I can surf the web without issue. I reformatted and installed windows 7 x86 (It had windows XP previously and the ethernet didnt work there either), installed all the drivers, and updated the BIOS, the ethernet still does not work while the wireless works fine. I thought this was a hardware issue until the ethernet worked with no issue in Ubuntu.

I have an elderly but perfectly functional Acer 5920 laptop (I upgraded it extensively in the years). It has an Intel 3945ABG wifi chipset.

I've been running Linux on it since forever, but it became necessary to put Windows on it. I installed Windows 8.1 and everything worked fine. I then ran Windows Update, it downloaded (via wifi) all the updates and applied them, and upon rebooting I found out that the wifi had gone - the interface doesn't appear, and device manager says "This device cannot start (Code 10)". Hitting the wifi button on the keyboard makes no difference.

I tried disabling and re-enabling the device, uninstalling it and rebooting, then futzing around with the Intel Pro/Wireless drivers, all to no avail.

After hours of cursing I decided I'd had enough, so I wiped and installed Windows 10 instead. And lo, the exact same thing happened: worked fine, downloaded and applied the updates, rebooted and promptly lost the wifi interface. Device Manager shows the exact same error.

What do I do now?

So I just got the new Virgin Superhub 2 I set it up and everything connects fine but for some reason I'm getting the full speed through the wifi on my xbox/phone/laptop but my desktop which is wired straight to the router is only getting 3mbps max and 0.05 upload.

So I set it up into router mode and plugged in my old linksys which worked for a time but after about an hour will always disconnect sporadically. I called the Virgin engineer out and he replaced most of the wires and even some of the stuff out in the box in the street but had the same conclusion with wireless fine and desktop not.

It works limitedly Im writing this on my desktop but if I try to do anything more than surf reddit or other low bandwidth required things it will disconnect.

I know it is capable of working because for a time I had the computer running at over 50mbps and when I plugged directly into the modem it was fine but obviously only I could use it and nobody else then.

The other strange thing is when the laptop was plugged in via wire it seemed to work fine so it leads me to suggest I have some settings or drivers incorrectly setup.

I'm using a Windows 7 64bit PC

I should probably mention that I'm not that good with tech so if you do have a suggestion can you please explain simply

Edit: Solved it. After endless Googling I found an Italian forum that had the solution - it's a driver conflict with the IR transceiver and Ricoh cardreader. Downloaded the Windows 7 versions of those from the Acer site, installed them, and now everything works fine.

I've seen this issue posted by a few different people, but I've not been able to get mine to work as of yet. Here's the rundown:

When clicking on the network connection icon in the system tray, wireless networks are not shown.

-Drivers have been deleted/ reinstalled multiple times and different versions.
-When using netsh wlan show all from the command prompt, I can see all local networks.
-I have verified the following services are active and running: Windows Connection Manager, Radio Management Service and Wireless AutoConfig.

I have also tried the fix listed here: Fix No WiFi Available After Windows 10 Upgrade Issue, Here's How | Redmond Pie

The odd thing is I can see the available wireless networks from the login screen. I've tried logging in under another user and have the same issue.

Anyone have any ideas?

This is weird.
Cable internet works fine when I go straight from the modem to the computer ethernet port.
However, if I do anything through a router I can barely get a signal or a connection even to google.
Here's what I've tried so far....
I have a Belkin45 Router and a Netgear WGR614 Router
I have gone straight from the cable modem through each router into the ethernet port of the computer...nothing
I have gone from the modem to the router and used my Netgear wireless USB and I get a signal from the router, I scan the network and find the router no problem but still can not connect to the internet. Did this with each router and found each one no problem.
I have tried 6 different cables
I keep getting server not found or time outs.
Like I said, weird.

Answer:Internet works fine...until going through router

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Make and model of the broadband modem.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make/model of network card or wireless adapter.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc.

Let's try this with either of the routers:

Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot the computer.

I have an annoying issue with my internet connection. From time to time i can't connect to Steam, Battle.net or download from torrents (I'm mentioning torrents becuase there might be a connection). I share the internet with 10 other people all of them connected mostly via wi-fi. Is is possible that the connection is too low to connect to the already mentioned above servers? There is nothing wrong with my pc or internet settings because it works fine for a week and then all of a sudden not. Once we tried to hard reset the main router and after that it worked just fine.
Realy don't know what might be the reason and I would love to finally find out what's causing it.
The router is http://www.planet.com.tw/en/product/...t.php?id=34631
The modem is provided by austrian telecom company and is this one Pirelli PRG AV4202N

It is possible that it could be a network congestion. Does your computer wireless adapter display any diagnostic as to why the connection was lost?

Ok, after updating XFire and getting a typical "Memory can't be read" error, my internet on my XP Machine stops working. So far, i've tried a virus scan (with weeks-old definitions) and Ad-Aware (again, weeks-old definitions), and a uninstall/reinstall of my NIC (Intel Pro/1000 CT) and it does not want to detect the connection at all.

In addition, my computer in general has just gotten "slow" considering its not breaking a sweat, and its a P4 2.80 GHz. It takes a few seconds just to start a program which would take a split second. I'm assuming this is tied in with the internet problem, or this is the cause.

I would really appreciate the help, you all seem like nice people.

Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS
Intel Pro/1000 CT NIC

Toshiba PCX1100 Cable Modem

Please give me a hand, I would appreciate it.

Hello, everyone. A computer of a friend of mine, an HP Pavilion dv7 laptop with 64-bit Vista installed on it, recently refused to open any webpages with any of the browsers installed (IE8, FF and Chrome), while other applications which do not use port 80 by default work just fine (i.e. MSNmsgr, WinUpdate etc.)
The problems started after I removed a few viruses off the computer and Removed the trial version of Norton, which has expired prior to that. I tried to do some troubleshooting -- disabled the Windows Firewall, uninstalled AVG (which is also known for causing issues) and ran "netsh winsock reset catalog" with no result, so now I don't know what else there is I can do, so I'm looking for some help.

Answer:Internet works fine, browsers don't

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands.

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 74.125.45.100

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. (For Vista/Win7, the IPv4 Address)

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

Hey All,

On My Windows 8 laptop, my speed in going to sites seems fine. I have TWC wireless Internet and my desktop, running Windows 10 always shows the full range with all the signal lines filled in on the system tray icon. My desktop, on the PC I had before ran Windows 7 and speed tests on both Windows 7/10 are normal.

But, on my Windows 8.1 laptop, the most I can get is the Internet icon not full, but one notch from the top. Today, it is barely off the first mark. On average, it goes about half way up the scale.

I have Turbo Internet from TWC and get about 22-25Megs down on my desktop. My laptop gets maybe 15-20 megs down. I should add that my laptop is in my bedroom on the other side of the house, quite far from my Wireless router. Pages seem to come up faster than my slow speed indicator shows. Troubleshooter in Windows 8 shows no problems. Cleaned the Cache in all browsers, flushed DNS. Am I just going to be stuck with a crappy signal range on this laptop because my Wireless router is too far away from it for a strong signal?

If I plug in to my router directly I can browse my workgroup, access all shares without a problem. When I disable my onboard LAN card and enable wireless, I can't browse my workgroup or even ping the other computers by name or IP on my network.

I can browse the internet wirelessly, ping the router and the IP and subnet are the same when I'm using wireless or wired connection.

I removed and added client for MS networks, file and print sharing, removed all wireless security from my router and it still does not work. I don't know if its my Dell wireless card or an OS problem and don't know what else to try.

Any ideas?

Answer:cannot browse home network through wireless, wired works fine

click on start
click on run
type: cmd
type: route print

See if it can see your network or your router when you connect wired or wireless?

click on start
click on run
type: services.msc
scroll down for wireless zero configuration make sure that's enabled

also look for network connections and make sure that's enabled
also computer browser is enabled
make sure xp firewall (built-in is disabled)

My laptop can connect wirelessly to my network, but it cannot connect via it?s wired NIC. Actually, skype will still work, but outlook mail and browsers do not.
The cat6 cable is ok. I have tested it on another computer. The NIC is ok. My wired connection works just fine at my other house (let?s call it Location 2), which has a similar setup. So, in summary?
At Location 1, my wireless connection receives an expected DHCP IP Address of 192.168?.
At location 2, my wireless AND wired connections both receive expected 192.168? addresses (I don?t connect them at the same time)
At Location 1, here is the problem, my wired connection receives a crazy address. When I ipconfig /release and /renew this wired address, it doesn?t change.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Recently I performed a reinstallation of windows on my laptop. Normally I had no problems with the wireless, but after the reinstallation my laptop refuses to acknowledge that there are wireless networks. When I'm not connected to the internet, it asks to connect using a wire connection only.

I have a Dell Inspiron iM101z running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I downloaded all the drivers for what the Dell website told me my laptop model was, a Dell Inspiron 1121. Attached is a picture showing the oddities of my problem. The icon on the taskbar shows that I have to connect with an ethernet cord; no wireless icon is shown.

If I try to unplug the ethernet cable and connect to the internet, I only get the option to do a broadband connection. Also, once I unplug the cable, I get "no connections available."

Answer:Laptop refuses to detect anything wireless, ethernet works fine

Most likely this is still a driver problem.

Hi all, first time posting here and I got a doozy of a problem.

I started working on a friends computer and it first looked like a problem in this thread after I did a scan with SAS and was unable to get online afterwards. All I got was aqquiring network address and ipconfig /all would show unable to open registry key for tcpip. I then uninstalled any extra wireless devices, scanned and cleaned with combofix and malwarebytes and ran fixits 50199 and 50203 from microsofts support site. None of that solved the problem so I reset the tcpip stack with netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt. I also used dial-a-fix and a registry fixer on the off chance that they would fix the problem.

Still nothing so I reinstalled the wireless adapter and it was able to connect to the wireless. Disable LAC and then a check on ipconfig pulls up a valid ip for wireless. I still can't get online though even though I am now connected. IE and chrome would not load a page and chrome had error 105 which made me think an old install of mcafee and norton was the culprit. I wiped mcafee with revo and norton with the uninstall tool, rebooted and no change. Checked all internet settings and they are good as well. No proxies, no dialup networks, auto detect ip and dns for LAC and wireless. I can't ping out on an ip or site name but I can access the router.

Also, I took the comp home with me so it's on a different router so I know it's not infected by the dns hijacker. So now I am stumpe... Read more

Problem: My monitor is receiving no signal from my video card.

Video Card: XFX Geforce 8600 GT

It started after I had shut my computer down after playing Left 4 Dead 2 and went to work. When I returned home the same night, I turned on my computer only to discover that I did not have a signal on my monitor.

1. Only have 1 POST beep.
2. Tried removing RAM, but same problem.
3. Tried changing video cards. Got the same problem.
4. Turned the volume on my speakers up and waited to hear Windows fanfare which I did, leading me to believe the computer is booting up just fine.
5. Tested the monitor on another computer and it worked fine.
6. Tested a different cord that I know works and still nothing.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I have no onboard video, and I have tried using another PCI Express slot as well. I aslo reset the BIOS. no help =/

I am absolutely stumped, any help at all would be great. Thank you.

I am trying to get to the route of my problem. There seems to be no problem with my software for Windows XP sp2, however, when I try to go online, I get "Cannot find server, Page cannot be displayed". and if I try another web page, a dialog box appears saying "Internet Explorer could not open the search page"I have run cmd, and websites are pinging with a return of 100%, and all IP addresses are correct. I am on cable broadband (telewest), and this connection is always on, except when I reset it once per week at the mains switch.Could this be a motherboard fault? I have tried re-installing all the drivers, however, in Device manager, there still is a question mark beside the PCI device. Hello,

I'm an IT guy with a background in Network administration, and this one has me scratching my head.

I'm also a DJ, and was installing an application a friend gave to me (freeware) for joining/splicing MP3 files

Here goes:

I double click on the install, a dos box opens and it's decompressing. Then the Windows installer comes up, everything looks normal, so I continue installing the program. (it installs successfully) Meanwhile, in the background, I get a pop-up from Symantec Corporate Anti-Virus telling me a virus has been found (Trojan) in my Internet Explorer Cache directory (setup.exe). It was very generic looking, so I paid it no mind, figuring it had stopped the spyware-installing program from executing, right? WRONG!

I open up my taskman (CTRL-ALT-DEL), not being a dummy, and find processes running I do not recognize..(gee, I wonder why!) I have to terminate them a couple of times to get them to stay gone (Also used "Terminate Process Tree" on one, then they all disappeared) ie.exe was one of them. I ran housecall, it attempted to delete the Webhance infection, and could not. It also found something that was a supposed unknown variant of "VUNDO", and matched characteristics with it. It could not delete that.

So, (having done this many times before on the computers at the office) I go into the Program Files Directory, and find two directories I do not know:

"bat"

"Webhance"

Re: After removing ssq*.dll, I now have no internet access (everything else works fin

Also, when I'm doing something mundane (such as loading music or a document), I'll get the pop-up that tells me windows cannot find a connection, and gives me the two buttons (Work Offline, Try again). Now I know there's still a problem.

I'm really ticked off that I can't figure this out. I'm assuming that there are still pieces of something on my HD. The only hope I have is to connect to the internet through Ethernet on BartPE, and run virus removal/spyware scans from that. But I don't think that's going to fix my problem with no internet/network access. I'm guessing that file was somehow tied into a modified registry entry, but I have no idea where to begin.

(sorry for forgetting to post this in the first entry.)

I have a PC running Win XP Pro and a laptop (acer aspire) running Win XP Home. Both have wireless adapters installed and working.

When I connect them via crossover cable it all works wonderfully. File sharing and internet works great. The PC connects to the internet through ethernet adapter which connects to a cable modem.

HOWEVER, when i set up a peer to peer 'ad hoc' wireless network, the file sharing works fine however the internet does very strange things. Certain websites work fine (such as google, bbc.co.uk and certain others), however others just don't load at all. Messenger doesnt work, outlook doesnt download e-mails and no videos or programs will download. I have tried this with my friends laptop too (same make) and the same thing happens!!

I have tried changing the MAC address and playing around with the ip addresses, but not being an expert i dont really know what i am doing!!

If you have heard of this problem and know how to sort it, please let me know, cos this is driving me insane!! Thanks.

Answer:Internet works fine over crossover, but not through WLAN!

Sounds like you need a router. The things you mention need to be able to reach the specific ip addresses of the two computers.

Hello, I've recently bought a new computer and I finally got a cord for the internet for it.

Internet works fine for a few minutes(around 2-5 usually), then it completely stops. It doesn't say it was disconnected, it just stops.

So I first thought it might be the cable, so I plugged it in to my laptop for a day and it worked fine. I figured it will work now with the desktop, not at all.

I am on Hughes net, and I have the Ethernet cord plugged into a wireless router.(Wireless has been working just fine the past few days.) We have used a desktop computer with this type of setup before and it worked just fine, that desktop was like a 2001 Dell that could barely stay on.

I am at a loss right now, I've unplugged and plugged almost everything you could possibly do that too. Tried different ports and such just to get different results.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks for spending some time helping.

My 6-month-old laptop, which is in the exact same room as my computer (bedroom), can load a webpage almost instantly and download 20mb files in around seven seconds whereas my one-month-old computer takes 15 - 20 seconds to load a webpage and half an hour to download a 20mb file. And sometimes it just refuses to work at all!

I've un-installed my antivirus (AVG) as I've had internet problems with it previously, but it unfortunately didn't do anything about my connection.

Moving my computer nearer to my router isn't an option either. I really have no idea what to do to make my computer's internet work properly.

So I have 2 laptops, a win 7 and a win 8,
The windows 7 laptop works on the internet fine, but the windows 8 one always disconnects, even when the win 7 isn't on.
It disconnects usually when I'm running multiple programs that use the internet on it, but when I run a game like counter-strike, it disconnects too, but not nearly as often.

The router is from 2008 or 2009, but it's a tiny aztech one. I'm sure it's not the isp, because like I said, the other laptop works fine.

Answer:One laptop works fine, but the other keeps on disconnecting from the internet

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site.. Reinstall it if you already have it.

What do you do to regain connection after it has been lost?

I am currently using a Dell Laptop with Windows Vista, and I'm connected to the internet using a Linksys wireless router. My internet connection is working fine right now and I can connect to the internet fine. But when I try and download something, like a song or a game, I only get speeds of like 10-15 KB per second, which is very slow for this computer.

This problem started like three days ago, and I don't remember installing any new programs in recent memory...

Does anyone have an idea why this could be happening?

Answer:My internet works fine, but downloads are very slow...

Make sure your router connection has security enabled (a password and whatnot from the router settings). People around you may be using your connection and this might slow it down.
That's all I can say :/

Hello again, everyone!  So, I got 2 more new problems on both of my computers.  The first problem is on my Windows 7 laptop.  There are times when I want to open a web page & it won't load up quickly.  I have to wait like 30 seconds to a minute until it loads up.  Then, everything works fine for 30 minutes to an hour until the Internet gets slow to load up again & then everything works fine again.  This has been happening for the last couple of months.  My laptop isn't even that old.  It is 2 years old.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

So, first off Pardon my English, I?m not a native speaker ...
I?m not sure if its better suited for Hardware or Windows 7 forums, So I will be posting it in both - No spam Intended - Both are kinda relevant .

Over the past year I?ve been noticing an issue some people had with arrival of windows 7 and now it has struck me too ... Using DVI-DVI connection monitor works just fine until the windows Loads up, after that it turns off saying "no DVI signal", When I switch to DVI-VGA (through adapter) it works fine... Safemode loads without problems even on DVI-DVI ...
I know its been posted a million times but, no mentioned fixes work for me and I plan to give the most detailed description...

My first guess was a software fault, so I went and did Full system recovery, unnstalled the drivers and Installed newest version ... Worked ... for 1 reboot ...
After that I checked all connections, opened the PC case, cleaned and checked everything inside ... Worked ... for 1 Reboot ...
Quite depressed, I decided to Format the whole thing and install new copy of Windows 7 ... And once again it worked for one reboot after the drivers were installed ... Thats when first appeared "purple lines" - The ones nVidia cards do before dying ...

Since I was using MSI 9800+GTX at that time (The faulty ones) I figured that it was only a graphics card going dead ... Wrong Again ... After Installing driver for my replacement card MSI R 6850 problem reappeared ...

hey guys
so i finally decided to install win7 x86 - everything went well - put all the standard stuff on there etc - i rebooted many times because of installations and updates
on my last reboot it just got stock in the bios screen (verifying dmi pool data..success! etc)
so i rebooted, same thing, took the disc out, same thing - turned off boot devices same thing
tried to use window's useless repair tools (whatever happened to repair install?) which didn't help - so i decided to format and reinstall - then it says it was unable to do that (partition error or something)

the annoying this is...is that this EXACT..i mean EXACT same thing happened when i installed vista sp1 from scratch - this happened - and to fix it i had to leave my pc open overnight with the hard drive cables all unplugged..in the morning with my fingers crossed i tried the installation again - and it worked.

my d: always disappears (single hard disk sata 233gig (250)) - sometimes it'll vanish from my computer and stuff - but this can't be the problem because the d: is a single drive on its own - my c: is a25gig partition from my e: - so it's completely unrelated.

does it matter how i replug the sata cables (2 of them) into the mother board? - they're both being recognised anyway

this is really annoying though - mostly because there isn't really an explanation - and because this random stuff always happens to my pc! - is it my hard drive because that's the only thing that would half- make sense :-/

Answer:installs fine, runs fine, reboots..not fine

Did you delete/recreate the partition? If you haven't then do this first and try re-installing Win 7. I wouldn't recommend removing the watermark as that can have unpredictable results.

Hello! Tech support was minimally helpful and further support would be premium software support. I have 14 Edge E560 20EV series.  Over the last 6 months about 4 of them that have the 3165NGW wireless card just lose wireless and will not gain it back. The symptom is most shown by all diagnostics (Lenovo Solution Center, Windows Troubleshooting, ProSet For Wireless) asking the user "Please Turn on the Wireless Radio". The device lacks a hardware switch.Fn+F8 displays the menu. Airplane Mode and Bluetooth both operate fine, but the Wireless button generates no response.  Tech Support logged in via 123Rescue and Validated drivers et all. Suggested Premium Support.  Further Notes:1. One device was warrantied for the same issue, it went back to Lenovo, it came back operational with no details of work. However that unit has failed as of today with the same issues.  2. Upon bootup, the Event Viewer shows entries that the device starts. Visibly you see it attemtp to scan for Wifi networks before going to an X over the icon indicating that the device radio is off. 3. In Network Adapters, the device is there without errors. Enabling and Disabling it has no effect. 4. I've attempted multiple verstions of the Power Management Driver and HotKey installations with different reboot intervals et all (but am still open to suggestion). 5. I brought 2 working E560s. 1 with a 3165NGW card (operational) and one with an 8260NGW (... Read more

Sure smells like a driver issue to me.   Have you tried the latest Intel drivers for the the AC3165 instead of the Lenovo drivers?    The latest Intel drivers version: 19.50.0 (Latest) Date: 2/28/2017  are newer than the driver available from Lenovo (18.40.0.9 4/7/2016) and might be worth a try if you have not already tried them.    .

I think this has been happening since I upgraded to windows 8.1, back in October/November (which is around where this problem started). It's WiFi internet.

I can connect to the internet just fine, speeds are normal, all that good stuff. But when I'm connecting to a new network it takes forever (and "Connecting to the network is taking longer than usual" comes up) and it comes up with "The connection is limited."

The most annoying part is that this happens between four DIFFERENT connections in 2 countries. So. I need this issue solved, it takes forever to connect to the internet if I disconnect for any reason, My phone connects to the WiFi just fine, so it's not a WiFi issue. Even connecting to the WiFi with an ethernet cable doesn't work.

I have been trying to diagnose this problem for a while now:

On a 4 computer network, all machines see each other in their windows workgroup, 2 computers can connect (via windows filesharing) to each other but not to the 2 others, and 2 computers can connect to the other 2 but not each other. Pings follow the same pattern, and all computers can acess the internet from behind the router. all firewalls have been removed, routing tables appear to be fine, and traffic is getting through to the isolated computers (captured using wireshark).

Any ideas?

ive been using the same setup for months, my laptop connects to our wireless network, its been perfect, our ipads connect to it too, theres never been a problem, then last night out of the blue it just stopped working, all the devices and my laptop can still connect to the network just fine and they can browse the net and ask questions on forums (), but they cant connect to game servers, my daughter cant play godus on her ipad, my son cant connect to minecraft, i cant connect to world of warcraft.

I did have a message pop up briefly on my laptop that there was an IP conflict and i thought that might have been something to do with it, i tried everything i could to get a new IP address, i did the ipconfig /release /renew thing, i tried leaving the modem and router cables out all night so i'd get a new one from my ISP but none of these actually worked, after checking i can see that i still have the same IP address.

But it still didnt make sense to me because its not only my laptop that cant connect to games, the other laptop and the ipads are also having the same problem. Last night my Internet suddenly crashed, and now both Internet Explorer and Firefox are unable to connect to the Internet although Skype strangely works perfectly. This makes me think it is a DNS issue but I don't know how to proceed. I have tried:

Restarting
Resetting winsock, IPv4, IPv6
dnsflush
Changing proxy settings (currently there is no proxy)
Using different connections (I am on a wired connection, although two different wireless connections get the same results)
System restore. When I first tried system restore, I chose the nearest point to restore to and was met with "The specific object was not found (0x80042308)." Clicking run system restore then resulted in "Catastrophic failure (0x8000FFFF)."
IPv4 and IPv6 are both set to automatically aquire DNS and IP
Removed Bonjour just to be safe
Took down all firewalls
Ran a full virus scan

I can ping my IP, default gateway, and DNS servers along with any other IP but I cannot ping URLs. Attempting to connect to a URL results in "Server not found" and connecting directly to an IP results in a connection time out.

I'll try to upload what I believe to be the relevant bits of my ipconfig. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,
I've struggled all night to find a solution to this problem but I dont see to find the answer. I share a router with my roomates and we both have macbooks. I also have an additional PC.

When I tried accessing certain websites (for example: www.rapidshare.com or my.calendar.net) from the macbooks I get a DNS error:

DNS ERROR - cannot find server.

Also next to the address bar is shows me that "the website does not support identity information". However, it works fine with my PC when I enter the address. I tried flushing the arp cache using the following commands:

sudo arp -d -a and
dscacheutil -flushcache

but the problem persists. In addition, I did a tracert command in my PC to find the IP address. I typed the ip address in the macbook computer and it work perfectly.

First, I thought it was my macbook but the problem is the same in my roommates. Also, I thought (for some reason) I got the adress blocked but it works in my PC.

So I am assuming its my router (DI-2254) but I reset it and nothing. I suspect it has to be with my PS3 that I used when trying to play online but I doubt it.

?? Any solutions ????
Thank you!

I can surf the net and email works fine, but when I try to access the network computers for sharing it says I don't have access to them. Anyone else have this problem and/or any suggestions?

Answer:Internet Works Fine, But Can't Access Other Computers On Network

How are you trying to access them? Directly, or have you got them mapped as network locations?
Also, what operating system are the networked locations?

I'm working on a dell deminsion 2400 with win xp pro sp2 and when the machine boots up an error message says "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. if you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost." and it has a close button and thats it. and IE is not even open. no details button, no send error report, nothing. and when you click close, it just comes back in a few seconds. the error is generated by dwwin.exe which i found out is Dr. Watson. this computer was infected with viruses and spy/adware. my boss cleaned some of it off of there on-site, then brought it back in-house for me to finish, so i'm not 100% sure what all viruses were on here. i cleaned mainly spy/adware off of it and have ran these programs in safe and normal mode: trend micro housecall, panda active scan, norton internet security 05, trendmicro spyware scan, x-cleaner, adaware, spybot, hijackthis, & ccleaner.
i have also ran the repair twice, ran the system file checker, chkdsk with all the switches. i have turned off error reporting and still get the message and internet explorer works fine. all programs work fine. i followed microsoft knowledge directions to uninstall IE in the registry and to turn off dr watson with no good results. i really don't want to reload the os because i will have to backup a lot of files and reload a lot of software and besides everything works f... Answer:Getting Internet explorer error message & IE works fine

Do you get this error in safe mode?

Also, try opening up msconfig and turning off all the startup items. Does this help? If it does, I'd look to see what programs you are running that may be causing this issue.

I cannot access the internet through EI or Firefox on our home computer that is running Vista.Ofcourse my laptop running XP works fine. I have tried a number of fixes from different forums and so far nothing has worked. I'm working off the same wireless network for both, I have had the Vista computer for about a year, and the internet as worked relatively well until about two days ago. The problem existed before I installed SP1 and has persisted after the install.

Can somone work with me on this to figure out what the problem is? Thanks.

Answer:Internet quit working w/ Vista OS works fine w/ XP OS

Hi -

Please follow the instructions found HERE - but you will have to copy AutoRuns and the batch file over to the Vista PC.

Hi,

Im unable to upload files to any website. I have a wireless mtnl internet connection. browsing and downloads work fine, its just a problem with the uploads. Also, when I connect my phone using wi-fi, again, downloads are fine but it wont upload anything... was going through google regarding this problem, one of the forums said download and run hijackthis, save the log file and post it to a forum if you aren't sure about what to clean. I've run hijackthis and saved the log.... Any ideas???
P.S: Attached is the log:

Answer:internet works fine but unable to upload pics

same problem here.. Mumbai MTNL Triband.. all the sites are working fine except the HTTPS sites, further unable to upload any stuff the upload speed is dead i suppose.. had called Customer care, never picked up the phone but got the confirmation that the issue has been resolved on cell via message. strange...

I thought it would be the problem of Wireless Modem + Router, but its still the same with Normal LAN Modem + Router.. not sure where the problem is...

So, I'm working in this domain environment and 99% of everything is peachy-keen. But every now and then someone will complain that they have no internet access. This maybe happens to one user in 40 maybe once a month - tops. So it's not critical.
Just very weird.

Most workstations are Windows 7 since the client hasn't been keen to use Win 8 with Autocad. Windows Server 2008 R2 running DNS, DHCP and VPN server. No rogue DHCP servers. We checked.

When checking out the workstation I note that the user can get to the server for files. They can ping the DNS server and gateway by name or IP and get a correct response, but when you try to ping google.com, no response.

My usual fix is just set them static above the DHCP scope. Forget it for a week. Come back and reset them to DHCP and everything will be fine.

Has anyone run in to anything like this? Any suggestions on what might need checking?

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 with Windows 7. I have been using Time Warner Internet. It worked fine until yesterday. WiFi stopped working out of the blue. When I tried, wired connection works pretty well. I do not recall any significant changes to my computer while this happened. So now I can connect to the wifi hotspot but it says "No Internet Connection". When I connect the LAN wire with the WiFi router, internet works. The moment I remove it, it says No Internet Access, although computer is connected to the hotspot and signal is very well.

The drivers are being shown as up to date in device manager.

I tried following instructions given here: http://www.wikihow.com/Repair-Winsock-and-TCP/IP
This didn't work. Problem persists.

I have been through some threads around here. This is the ipconfig output:

My computer has started freezing for a split second and then it works fine. It will do this over and over.  This happens when in word processing software, on the internet scrolling pages, or when playing games.  I've scanned the hard drive, cleaned all temporary and internet files, made sure windows is up to date, and defragged.  Does anyone have any idea why it is doing this? Thanks.

Answer: Help - Computer freezes for split second then works fine

System specs ? ?Any new hardware installed recently ? ?Size of HDD and available free space ? ?

Specs:
- PC Chips A15G mother board, BIOS just flashed with the 2008/08/12 update
- 2x Western Digital WD10EADS 1TB hard drives set up as a RAID 1
- Fresh install of Windows XP using the F6 function to install the RAID drivers, updated to Service Pack 3
(I can provide more system information if it will help)

I just upgraded my home-built desktop from a single 80G IDE hard drive to a RAID 1 with dual 1TB SATA drives with a fresh install of XP using the F6 option and installing the required RAID drivers. The system runs great but it would not power down after shutting XP down. After flashing the BIOS with the 2008/08/12 update, things get weirder.

The machine still doesn't power down when I shut down XP, but will shut down if I hold the power button for 3 seconds or so. However, if I press the Reset button on the front of the case the machine shuts down instantly, but does not reboot. When I select "Restart" from the shut down menu, the machine shuts down instead of rebooting. Even further, if I go into the BIOS menu then exit, the machine shuts down instead of rebooting.

The XP install is new this weekend so if I need to do something major it isn't a big deal. Is there some sort of BIOS setting that I have wrong or is something corrupt? The machine ran completely normally with the 80G IDE drive.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Jimal

Answer:Computer works fine, but will not reboot when requested

This appears to be a RAID issue, try disabling RAID and pulling one of your hard drives see if that changes anything.

Friend bought an Acer laptop E5-575-54SM Intel i5-6200U; Windows 10 Home; 4GB RAM; 1TB; WiFi featuring MU-MIMO.

When I connected it to his WiFi network it was very slow. I ran a speedtest. It only gets 1 Mbps where it should be 20 Mbps.

I connected my iPhone to the network but got the same results. So, I assumed it was a problem with the WiFi. However, a different laptop (Toshiba) does get the 20 Mbps speed via WiFi.

Well, that is just not possible.
Since my iPhone was also slow, I know the problem is with the network.
But, since the old Toshiba laptop connects fine, the DSL modem and WiFi router are okay.

Two days later, the new Acer was running fine on the network, only to come to a crawl today.

I am stumped.

Hi,
My Dlink Dir-825 seems to have crapped out on me. I am looking for things I could do to confirm it has indeed died, or if there's some setting that spontaneously changed that would prevent connectivity.

Yesterday, I suddenly lost all internet on 3 PCs (1 running Windows 7, other Vista and other XP) connected via cable to my Dlink. My other devices on the wireless network of my Dlink still had internet though.

This network has been up and running for at least a few months.

I have tried:
Restarting all of the computers
Resetting the Dlink (by unplugging and waiting 20 seconds, and also by pushing the reset button in the back for 20 seconds)
Enabling/disabling MAC address filtering.
Tried connecting a Mac (as in OS X) by cable (to see if it was pc specific. Mac couldn't connect via cable either)
PCs connected directly to Modem get to the internet fine, so I'm thinking it isn't the PC's internal cards taht are the problem.

Sometimes the PCs will say they are connected to Local and Internet, or just Local, but they never really are.
All the lights on the Dlink light up and blink, saying that a connection is established.

Here is the ipconfig /all I get while my vista PC is connected to the Dlink
C:\Users\Brousseau>ipconfig /all

Hello,My name is Vladan and I have had a problem occur yesterday. My internet stopped working.I immediately tried my phone's wireless connection and saw that it was working fine, so I tried laptop wireless and it too was working. When I plug in my network cable it stops working. My ethernet internet connection status shows that Ipv4 and Ipv6 have "no internet accsess". It's not just my laptop's wired internet that stopped working, it's the whole network I have in my apartment consisting of two more computers who also lost their wired-ethernet internet accsess. I suspect something is wrong with my router since it relays my internet but wireless works fine so I'm stumped. When I plug in my cable it shows limited connectivity.I have tried ipconfig /release - /renew, I have tried netsh winsock reset and netsh int ip reset log.txt I have tried (netsh winsock reset catalog), also I tried (netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log) and it said the following ::::::Resetting Interface, OK!Resetting Neighbor, OK!Resetting Path, OK!Resetting , failed.Accsess is denied.Resetting, OK!Restart the computer to complete this action.::::I don't know what is this "failed and accsess is denied" but it might be the problem.I have rebooted my router several times but also with no results. I have checked DHCP settings for both router and laptop adapter and it all checks out. I have check IP filtering and MAC filtering on router and it all looks fine. I use no f... Read more

Answer:Network troubleshoot - Ethernet (wired) stopped working, Wireless works fine.

Did your ISP give you this router such as your leasing it etc? If so contact them for a replacement. If you own this router then I'd try factory reset button to set it back to factory default. If that doesn't cure this then buy a new router. They are pretty cheap these days.Your router could have been hacked, the access denied is strange!

Several scans have been preformed before posting this, it was infected with zeroaccess rootkit, which I can no longer see traces of. Here is whats been done so far, this is over a remote connection to this pc so I want to make sure if possible, that everything looks ok before booting back into normal mode to test.
ran TDDSkiller, rogue killer, tweaking.com tool. Rogue Killer found lots of traces of zeroaccess, ran tdds in normal mode, as well as adw. Not 100% sure but I believe Hitman pro and Malwarebytes was run as well, Bit Defender endpoint is installed as well. I do not have the log files for them, so we will start from scratch.
