Question: T61p "Plugged in, Charging" but not actually charging

I just plugged in a brand new battery and it says that it's plugged in and charging but it isn't actually charging. I've searched the internet and I've come up with possiblythe power brick not having enough juice to charge the battery. My power brick says Input: AC100-240V 1.5A 50/60Hz, Output: 20V --- 4.5A it being a motherboard problem. Is there any utility or tutorial on how to check to see if it's a motherboard problem? Any other suggestions on how to solve this issue or at least identify the problem would be much appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Good day,I have reached the next problem: after I've returned back from a vacation, I have inserted AC adapter into my laptop and the orange battery indicator was not displayed. I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

Good day, I bought my Lenovo G580H 1 week before, and before few days i saw, that the battery is not charging. First time the battery was on 61%, later when i was watching the film without AC adapter and after it pluged the AC adapter i saw, that the battery is on 7% and not charging. So no it's not charging too and when you want to watch a film or something without ac adapter laptop is truns off autmatically. So for what i should be angry? I?m sorry to hear that the Battery is not charging and also not providing backup as expected in your G580 Laptop, I suggest you to open the LEM (Lenovo Energy Management) and perform ?Battery Gauge Reset? to get the issue confirmed.

Dell laptop not charging..getting message plugged in not charging I brought Dell Inspiron 14R laptop 2 years back . My laptop is not getting on with battery..only when power cable is plugged in its getting on..but getting message saying "plugged in not charging"...replace the battery.

Is this an issue with battery or do i need to change the AC adapter. Do i need to buy a new battery?

Hi Guys, I have had to change my battery, got a brand new DELL battery but I can't get it to charge...I'm running Windows 10 PRO. I have tried the fixes listed above but unfortunately NONE has solved my problem. Any suggestions?

Where have you purchased the battery from? Does the old battery charge fine when plugged in?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible? 
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Test another power adapter and check. If the adapter fits in loose, then the dc port needs to be replaced. You would need this part.

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

i have been using this laptop for 2 years i get it from my friend .

from start it always charges battery upto 56 percent.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Yesterday i bought a new battery for my laptop but it is giving me the same problem which i had with my previous battery.

So this is not battery problem.



Things i have tried



1)Removing battery and uninstalling windows ac adaptor from Device manager.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.



Nothing has worked for me so far.

I would be thankful for your guidance.

I recently had my Qosmio F55-Q502 repaired by Toshiba.
Two issues were addressed and one is fixed.

However, the second was attempted to be resolved unsuccessfully.

When I attempt to play multi-media games such as Call of Duty IV, even if the system is fully charged, within minutes the system will start to blink the "backlights" and then when I see the charging icon, it says "Plugged in, Not Charging."

This really concerns me as I have read online many similar issues, but none of the solutions seems to work.
To have to restart the machine everytime this happens and your in the middle of a game, really stinks!
I even had it happening with SimCity4 which is an ancient game.

Any good suggestions on this?
They did replace the battery when it was sent in which seems to be what most people say needs to be done.

If your Qosmio notebook was in repair I think you should not discuss about any issue on forums but make a pressure on service and clarify every single problem with your notebook.
Please do this because the warranty is still valid and now is the time to clarify everything.

I am not hardware specialist but it sound to me as some power supply electronic issue but I cannot say for sure. Talk with service. Try to clarify this with them. Be nice, be cool and everything will be ok.

Hey,

I just got my computer back from having the motherboard switched out because of another problem, but now my battery will not charge. The light is on and it says it is charging, but it isn't. Should I attempt a gauge reset or something else?

It is a Lenovo y50, which I have had for 3 months. The battery needs to be unscrewed from the back.

Answer:Says plugged in and charging, but is not charging. Just got motherboard fixed.

If it is not charging maybe the battery is defective.
Did they gave you back the original charger?
Did they install another different motherboard which might use a different charger?
You may need to contact the person who repaired it to find out.

My laptop suddenly stopped charging since yesterday. It is hovering around the 5-7% range since yesterday and continues to say that it is charging, when in actuality it is not. I have tried to reset the laptop, as well as uninstall and install the ACPI drivers, but nothing seems to work. It has only been a month since I got this laptop.  Any help would be appreciated.

Running Windows 7 x64.One of my end users' T410 would say that it was charging, but the battery percentage would never change unless you unplugged it. Then it would get lower, but plugging it in would not recharge the battery. We tried putting her HD in a working T410, but the problem carried over. I ended up giving her a new laptop, but I would like to fix the errant T410 if at all possible. Since the problem carried over with the HD in a working T410, I figured it was a software issue.  Reinstalled Windows. No good.Did a wipe of the HD (everything 0's). Reinstalled Windows. No Good.Booted from Linux liveCD. Charging worked, but once I booted into a fresh copy of Windows, it stopped charging. So it seems that the hardware is capable of charging the battery, but not on a fresh copy of Windows: only Linux. Is there anything else I could try to get it working on Windows? Thank you for your time and have a great day.

As you are facing the improper charging of battery , in that case you please need to perform the following steps and check  if the issue gets resolved.
 

Open Lenovo Energy Management
Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

Hi guys, I ran into this problem a few days ago where the laptop is plugged in, it says its charging, but the battery % won't go up at all. It started around 16% and each time I unplugged it for whatever reason it would go down but when I would plug it back in it wouldn't charge it back up. So now I'm at 8% and afraid to unplug it again.  I have the Energy Management set to Balanced, Maximum Battery Life, and it's status is "Charging" and "Good". Any help is appreciated, thank you guys.

Can you try the following:
1. While having the battery and AC adapter plugged-in, boot into the BIOS (by pressing F2) and unplug the AC adapter until the system shuts off (this is to compete the discharge the battery).
 
2. Once the machine shuts down, remove and reinsert the battery and plugin the AC adapter then let the battery charge for about 2hrs while the machine is off and observe the battery lifght indicator. After 2hrs, power up the machine and observe the battery percentage.

If the battery is stucked at 0%, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as the battery may need to be replaced.

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS. 
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

Hi all,I have a brand new i7 Yoga 13 running windows 8 from Best Buy. As soon as it booted up, I have not been able to charge my battery. As I hover over the icon, it says "Plugged in and Charging" but it does not include a percentage. I have had it plugged in overnight, and if I unplug the computer, it will die immediately. I have tried updating my BIOS, energy managment and setting it to "Maximum battery life," but nothing changes. Thoughts?Thanks

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with battery plugged in charging in your Lenovo Y50-70 laptop.
 
 Please try to perform the gauge reset, under power manager select maintenance guide and select gauge reset and check for the issue.
 
Also try to uninstall the Microsoft ACPI driver, uninstall the drivers under ACPI and restart the system and check for the issue.
 
Also shut down the system and try to charge the system for 1 or 2 hours and check if the charging percentage has increased. If the charging percentage has increased in Linux then it?s a issue with operating system please reinstall the operating system and check for the issue.

I have a Lenovo G580 laptop. I formatted my system and it was working good but slow before formatting. After formatting i got a status of 49% available(Plugged in, Not Charging). I shut down my system completely and removed the adaptar and found that the battery light is still glowing. I remove the battery and inserted. I still found the battery light is glowing. Then i started the system with adaptar checked status as (plugged in, charging) but the power percentage is not going up. I decided to drain the battery and then check, so i was working without the adaptar & the power drained normally in usual time.Then i plugged in to adaptar and Currently the status is "0% (Plugged in, Charging)"  but its not charging.   Please help.

Youre troubleshooting is correct and pointed out the battery.
   One last thing you could try is to run the Battery gauge reset via the Lenovo Energy Management software,
 If that still gave you the same problem I suggest having the battery Replaced via warranty claim or by purchasing a new battery.

To whom it may concern.I am in desperate help..... I have tried every solution i have managed to find on the internet but none of them work. I have a HP ProBook 450 G1 Laptop. When plugging the power supply in the batery shows that its charging but it never actually charges but simply remians on at same level.....I have checked the power supply as I have an exact duplicate laptop at my disposal, same with the battery. The battery charges perfectly in the other laptop but not in my laptop. When swithcing the batteries form the other pc it will not charge in my PC. bot both are fine in the other PC. I have removed the battery, checked power supply, un-installed and reinstalled the ACPI-complaint and adapter as suggested by most. I have done what ever solution i can have managed to find but neither have worked but the battery works  just fine when inserting into the other duplicate laptop and charges fine. I have tried to instal or upgrade BIOS settings etc. Nothing has worked for me! Please can someone point me in the correct direction!!!!!! Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Need Help!

The problem started from June 2, 2015 about 4 AM (UTC +8:00 Philippine, Manila)

I open my Notebook that morning to check on my e-mails and bills at gmail but it's not powering up. At first I thought that the battery was slightly drained because I saw my sister still using it at midnight. I asked her if she did not plugged in the charger when it is nearly drained but she said she plugged it and it is still full when she shut it down.

It is Li-ion Battery

I tried plugging in the charger to check whether it still has remaining battery. It powered up.
On the taskbar/notifications/running apps it says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging).
So to check out the problem, I left it turned off charging for about two hours.

Then after two hours it still says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
What the hell is this?! I asked my self.
I installed an app to check the status of the battery (Battery Bar)
Battery Bar says something like this:
Capacity: 2K of 8K mWh (not sure about this)
Charging: 0 mW
Running on AC
7.9% Available
Something like that.

Summary Notes:
1. Does not power up without Charger
2. It detects the Battery saying 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
3. Though Plugged In, Charging it does not charge at all because of 0 mW charge rate
4. It turns off when the Charger is plugged out.
5. It still run even without the Battery (when the Charger was plugged in of course, then a red x mark shows in the notification taskbar battery icon)

How old is it? Most likely the battery if you use it a lot on battery power, not plugged in.

So I unboxed my Ideapad Y500 yesterday and it's working wonderfully...that is, everything except my battery. When it was running low at 10% battery life last night I decided to plug in the AC adapter, which, as is normal, caused the battery icon in the corner to read "10% available (plugged in, charging)". However, what's not normal is that when I turned the laptop off and left it to charge overnight, the battery indicator light at the front of the system was still orange/red, occasionally flashing. I turned on my system again to find that my battery life hadn't budged at all despite recognizing that the adapter was plugged in and charging. I know other people have asked about something like this, though most of them say their battery icon reads "plugged in, not charging", so I'm not sure how to solve it. Any help would be appreciated!

HiNot sure it is happening but can you try this:remove battery and ac adapter; press and hold the power button for 30-40 seconds and then put it all together. Hope fully it should fix the problem.Regards

I have read a few other similar posts but none of their solutions worked on my laptop.  The battery percentage stays the same when plugged into the charger.  I first noticed the issue this morning when I powered the laptop on and the percentage was at 44% with the charger plugged in overnight, and it was at 44% when I plugged the charger in last night.  I only put the battery in the laptop a couple days during the week when I'm in school, otherwise I just leave it out and have it powered through the adapter.  The laptop is 7 months old.
 
I tried the Gauge Reset for 8 hours today and it wasn't doing anything so I cancelled it.   I have reinstalled the Energy Management software.  I have also tried shutting it down for 20 minutes and charging it at a different wall outlet.
 
What else can I do?

I just tried this from another post and it worked!  Battery is charging again.
 
a. turn off the computer and remove the battery and AC adapter.
b. press and hold the power button for 30 secs and reconnect the AC adapter
c. turn ON the computer and continuously tap F2 to boot into the BIOS, when you're in, press F9 to load defaults and press F10 to save and exit.
d. boot into Windows (while still having just the AC adapter plugged-in) then reinsert the battery.

My dell Inspiron 3420 bios version A09 suddenly stopped charging battery , and the power icon show this message(Plugged in and charging) but my battery does not charge.
I tested another charger and another battery but did not help.
Thinking that changing bios might  help,I am trying to change the bios but can't downgrade even i tried /forceit command. 
I can access logic board if for troubleshooting someone could educate me about  voltages of sda, scl and dc jack connector to the board.
Kindly help me.

I found out yesterday morning that for some reason, the battery on my laptop isn't charging. I'm staying at my mother's house for the weekend and since then the problem has occured. At home, it always charged properly and never gave me any problems.  Could I need a new battery? I've tried going to Device Manager and uninstalling and re-installing drivers and the whole 9 yards, yet the problem still persists. Thank you in advance

Hello!

Bizarre problem for which I cannot find an answer.
I have an Asus Vevobook Laptop (Model: TP300LA) which states "plugged in, charging", however it's not charging. A cursory search of the web seems to reveal that this is not an uncommon problem and I've read many suggestions that it could be an issue with Windows 10 itself, but I'm not sure (laptop came with Windows 8.1 and, like many others, I went for the free upgrade to Windows 10).

So far I've tried uninstalling/re-installing the Microsoft ACPI items under device manager AND buying a new battery... but no luck.

It was mentioned on one site that it might be a problem with the BIOS, but I daren't update those (not that I even know how) for fear of bricking my laptop... although it's pretty useless now that it's tethered to the socket anyway.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My flex 1580 is having issues again..... The battery percentage will not go up even when it is plugged in. It's been almost a month now and every "fix" I tried did not work.1) new charger/no2)new battery/no3) battery flush/no4)Microsoft acpi/no5) factory reset/no6) BIOS update/ I can't my battery is at 0%7) factory reset/caused more problemsNow the laptop is extremely slow when loading windows files, and it blacks out frequently (a know issue that got fixed with a BIOS update, but I can't anymore). I haven't been able to work on my laptop at all, and been resorting to my phone.Any other tips? Only had this laptop for 1 1/2 years and I'm supprised it's having issues.

Hello and welcome. I read those instructions. and from your post, i can assume that you did those steps correctly and are still having issues. To further trouble shoot this , how bout testing what happens when you are running on battery and the charge is waaaaay low. Plug it in and see if it charges. and if it just charges to the one level of 35% . If this happens after it ( battery ) has been run down to a low power state and only charges to 35% , then to me that would indicate a battery issue. So, with that in mind, let battery run down and then plug it in and report back how far it charges back up to. Also, note how long it takes it to run down to a state where you need to recharge it.

I own dell latitude e6410 and had its bttery replaced bout 4 months ago. the battery did good giving me 4 hrs backup (9 cell). now whe i hover above the battery icon in the taskbar it says 0% available plugged in charging.................but not actually charging i've tried the power button thingy and uninstalling and re installing the battery driver, didn't work for me. what should i do??

My 4540s recently has problems with battery charging. When I plug in, on the taskbar it says : "Plugged in, charging", however it is not charging. It is not going above 0%. I followed the steps that are here like uninstalling "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" and then removing battery, holding power button for a minute and then putting back battery and turning notebook on. But it was useless. My laptop still not charging. Please help me with this issue.

I have a HP Probook 4740s laptop. When the laptop is open (ON) and I plug in the power it shows Plugged in, Charging but it does not charge. The only time it charges in  when I have the laptop closed (cover down). I have run the EUFI and systems diagnostics, uninstalled and re-installed the battery drivers in Device Manager and the battery report is fine but the problem still persists. Anyone ever had this issue kindly assist. I don't have any warranty on the laptop.

I have a G50-70 laptop which i purchased 7 months ago.This afternoon i noticed that the battery charge has been stuck at 45% with the charger plugged in. I unplugged to see this was the problem with the battery and the charge started to drop (like always, nothing peculiar). Things have been good with my Yoga 3 pro until this weekend. Battery life was a good 5-6 hours, but after a recent windows update it appears the battery will no longer charge. It shows plugged in and charging and shows increasing charge but after un plugging it will dim the screen as if it's in power save and then die within 10-15 minutes. I reverted to before the update but that did not solve the problem. It happened all of a sudden so I assumed it was related to the update. Please help, love the machine but this makes it unusable.

Hi, all. I have had my Ideapad P400 for a few years now and i have never encountered a problem like this one. I just recently upgraded to Windows 10, which i actually like a lot, and all of a sudden, my battery says "plugged in, not charging." It will only charge up to 59% and it dies very quickly. I thought it was the battery, so i bought a replacement and installed it. It did the same exact thing. I've tried doing a battery reset in the energy management window, i have tried downgrading to windows 8 again, and i have tried looking up different firmware updates that could potentially fix the problem, but nothing. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this problem of mine, i greatly appreciate it. This is really my last shot before i have to take it in to be repaaired. Thanks! -Frank C. (P.S. Hi my laptop today morning had an issue. When I plugged my charger I was not charging and there was no indication of being charged. Even the charging indicator light didn't show up when connected. I tried all the procedures of connecting charger with battery plugged out it didn't boot. And my laptop s updated until today. Any help????

I've a lenovo T61p. It came with a advanced-docking station without security key! So I have to use it with the attached advanced docking station. Unfortunately, this T61p dropped from my bed and gosh it was dead! :-( Even I couldn't be able to run it on AC. There was no power plug signal. The battery was completely dead and I thought that its all gone. I read several message posts on different forums and found that if I undock my laptop there is a chance that it may start. I went to a lock smith to open the lock for me and he opened it in just a few seconds. I came home, ejected the laptop battery and when I plugged the power to my T61p it started! Then I then tried to recharge the battery and it also started to recharge :-) Its running perfectly now. Hope this post helps you in some way. Good luck!

Hi! I bought a new genuine lenovo battery for my T61p 8891 CTO running Win7 64bit. When I use this new battery, the custom values inside the battery maintenance dialogue are complely ignored, and the system always charges the battery to 100%, even if I plug it in at 98%. With the old battery, I worked with 70%-90% thresholds which worked perfectly fine! But not with the brand new Lenovo spare part. I updated to Power Manager 6.36 and installed the latest PM Drivers from Lenovo Driver Matrix, but nothing works. I already tried to reset the battery, but that error won't let the discharge cycle happen, because as soon as the battery reaches 99%, it is reloaded. Any ideas?

Answer:T61p new battery > custom charging thresholds unfunctional

The charge thresholds seem to be specific for the battery you're using when you set them, if you plug in a different battery it will ignore them. I'd recommend putting the old battery back in, turning off the custom settings, close power manager then shut down and switch batteries and restart. You should now ab able to set a charge threshold for the new battery...   assuming it's working properly. If you want to do a deep cycle recharge to condition the battery, run it as close to 0% as you can get, then boot to bios  and let the computer sit until it shuts off from low battery, you'll then be as close to 0% as possible. Now plug in AC power (without starting the comptuer) and let it charge for 8-10 hours.  When finished not only check that the charge threshold work, but also your max capacity to make sure it's close to 100% of design limit. I've seen brand new batteries in the 80% range before, but most are 98-102%. If a brand new battery is below 95% or so I'd see about getting it replaced under warranty. Good Luck

Inspiron 5558 .... If i unplug my adapter this laptop doesn't work,even though there is battery...
Did all kind of test like " powercfg -energy -output ...."...updated my BIOS too
Takes long time to start also has display issues like getting stuck if i open my pc ... guessing it is due to the battery or adapter or BIOS problem.
& here's another problem have 0% available & your software only does updates if it has 10% or more battery or something like that...

Hello,   I have a new (9 months old) HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab268ca.  I have used this computer very little as my last computer was still operating and I wanted to finish some projects off on it before moving to this new computer.  The computer was fine for the first few uses but now the battery is completely drained, I can only use it if it is plugged in to a power source.  When trying to charge the battery, which I can remove, it says: Plugged in, not charging.   This has become discouraging.  I don't know how to fix this problem.  I'm not sure why a computer that is less than a year old and hasn't been used is doing this.  Since my computer is still under warranty I would like to see this problem fixed.  If someone from HP can contact me and let me know how to fix this or who I have to bring my computer to in order to have my warranty cover this, that would be greatly appreciated.   This is the first time I've bought an HP product and I can honestly say it has been a frustrating process, especially after seeing that this has been a problem for the last few years, judging by other customer's comments.  I hope this can be fixed because I really do like everything this computer can offer, except that it's battery won't charge, rendering my laptop useless.  Thank you very much for your reply, Michael

I have an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC.  I am having an issue with the battery charging.  I get the "plugged in, not charging" scenario.  I have read all the posts and have tried all the suggestions such as uninstalling and reinstalling the battery drivers and so forth.  Here is my problem.My battery is new therefore, I know it is not that.  I perform a battery check and the system says the battery is good and that it is currently charging.  However, the battery icon on my lower right screen says it is plugged in, not charging.  The computer will completely drain the battery in about 30 minutes even though the computer is plugged in.  If I take the battery out of the laptop and pop it back in, the computer will start charging the battery again.  Once it reaches a 90% charge, it goes back to saying plugged in not charging again and drains the battery all over again.I don't understand the disconnect between the HP battery check saying it is charging and the icon saying it is not then draining my battery completely.  Any thoughts would be helpful.Thank you.

Hey Guys, My HP Omen says plugged in, not charging. I have already tried to reset the computer, upgrade BIOS, and uninstall Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. I tested power using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics and it said ok. I also tested HP battery check using HP support Assistant, it also said OK. I'm unable to remove the battery, so I'm kind of stuck. I'm also getting "Please connect a higher capacity Smart AC Adapter for full Performance", but I was getting that before and it still charged. There is white light next to AC Adapter when it's on and orange when it's off. The computer also seems to charge only when it's in sleep mode or fully shut down. I also got it to charge one time when the AC light flicker between orange and white when plugged in; however when I unplugged it I got back to plugged in and not charging. I'm also getting really low fps. Going from 200 fps to 10-20fps. I can make it go up to 40-60 when I unplug the computer and replug it, but I have to constantly unplug and replug whenever I play a new game. Help please. Thanks,Ben

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 5558 at the end of December. Within the past couple of weeks, I received notices that my computer was not charging and that my AC adapter was unidentified, I tried all of the diagnostic tests offered  the Dell website but they said that everything was fine. Is this a software or hardware issue What is the next step?

I have had it with Vista. Out of all the 6 computers I have had, this is my only one with Vista and to tell you the truth, this has had the most problems. This never happened to me since recently. Whenever I plug in my computer to AC power, it shows as plugged in, not charging. I take it out for a while to cool it down, and then after about 15-20 minutes I put it back in, and it shows as fine. When I scan it with HP Battery Check (during "plugged in, not charging") it shows as "Replace Battery". When I scan it after I fix the problem (plugged in, charging) it shows as "Good". Then after approximately 2 hours it again shows as plugged in, not charging. Does anybody know why?

Hey guys

I'm sure this is a common topic but I still need help on it. I have had my Dell M5040 laptop for nearly 5 months now and until the last few days its been fine charging the battery.

However I noticed when I plug the charger in it says 'plugged in, not charging'. Usually this is resolved at the time by re-inserting the charger (note: I've been using the same charger and battery that was supplied)

Today it hasn't been doing that. But besides that I want to be able to insert the charger knowing everytime it will charge my battery the way it should do!

Any help would be great

i have Dell inspiron N5010 and i can't charge it's battery.
when i plug in the ac adapter i get "plugged in not charging".
i have tried different charged,different batteries and all the youtube guides on how to fix the problem for example re installing the hardware driver.

Is the adapter frayed? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter jack hold still and firm or does it fall off easily? The alternate adapters and batteries you have tried, are they Dell products certified for your system model?
If possible, update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1WweDdU
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status with and without the adapter connected. Also, wiggle the adapter jack while connected to the system and check if the adapter status changes at any point in BIOS.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.
If the system is under warranty, write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details. If there is no warranty, then we can help with a paid service call if required.

After searching Forums and speaking to HP regarding this message/issue I have done the on board testing which  told me the battery was at fault(eroneously) I found a post asking me to check the tiny copper pin on the charging cord that plugs into the PC and sure enough it was bent and after straightening it the problem is solved,

Battery is 100% charged, After 2 days in ac power it shows 98%, plugged not charging. Then if I use the battery for a while less than 95% and if i plugged it in ac power, it starts charging and become 100%, fully charged. After two days it show 98%, plugged not charging.
So it is charging, but not holding the charge for some days. Battery replaced with a new one. Laptop is still under waranty.
I am getting 2 hour 20 minutes battery backup.

That happens for me too very often =).
That isn`t a issue, if it isn`t charging is because it already charged and now he is holding. For me it stays always at 99% charged, not charging.

Okay so I've had this Dell Inspiration 15 since December 2016. It has since had many issues such as of course the "Plugged In, Not Charging". This has happened 2 times now, and possibly a 3rd time and I find that it's very ridiculous that I need to be worrying about this, especially after 2 previous incidents. The first time, I thought it might just be a bad cable which we never got an answer for, so we had to buy a brand new plug. Just like the previous one, nothing seemed to be wrong but eventually after only a month or so after the first incident (which happened only 2 months after buying the computer), it happened again. This time we went to Best Buy. There they gave me a new plug and it worked and we were told its just that dell products went down in stability. This plug we have had for about 3 or 4 months. Now its happening AGAIN. I don't know what's wrong. It also is working but not, I have to adjust it slightly and pray to make it work and as of now it is working, but its very worrisome that its gonna stop working, so now that all of the background info is out of the way, here's my real question.
HOW DO I STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING? AND WHAT DO I DO TO FIX IT? Because I've spent almost 200 dollars now on plugs after taking a lot of care with my previous plugs and this current one and I really REALLY don't want to buy another. My T61 always says "plugged in, not charging."Some Google searching led me to a fix - in Device Manager, I mess with the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Battery Control Method heading.  Sometimes, I can just disable then enable it, and the battery starts charging.  Other times I have to uninstall it and scan for hardware changes, or remove the physical battery somewhere in the mix, or restart the computer, or a combination of these maneuvers.No problem, it's fixed, not a big deal.The real problem is that it will charge up about 3-5%, then go back to not charging.  I have to do this about 20 times to get a full charge.  Insanely annoying.  Occasionally, I can plug it in and it charges up like it should, but more often than not I have to go through this hassle. Other than this, the battery charges in a normal amount of time, and discharges in a normal amount of time.Lenovo Power Manager says nothing is wrong with the battery.  I tried the battery maintenence thing, no change.I've attempted to update drivers, re-install the power manager, no changes.My battery wasn't part of the recall.I have a T61, Win7 x64, T7300 2Ghz processor, 4GB RAM Does anyone have a permenant fix for this, or a cause at least?Thanks,-Matt

for a start, you could check the voltage at the ac adapter. you'll need a meter.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 running windows 7 RC and recently developed this problem a couple of nights ago. On and off before that I would get the message, unplugged the AC power, plug it back in and it would start charging again. It has now developed into a permanent problem. I have googled this issue and found everything I can find on how to fix it, but nothing seems to work. Others have tried replacing batteries, motherboards, power supplies and reloading OS's. What works for one person doesn't always work for another. Most solutions are just temporary band-aids to what seems to be a growing problem. Has this issue been addressed in the final release? I had been running windows XP for years and never had a problem; it has only been since installing Windows 7 that the problem began. If this is a driver issue inside of Windows is Microsoft planning on issuing an update to fix the issue or are they just banking on 7 fixing all the issues that Vista has? This is not a brand specific issue as far as PC's go, I am an IT professional and have spoken with many other IT folks about it and nobody has been able to get an answer out of Microsoft and the laptop companies (Dell, HP ect.) are milking more money out of users by telling them they need new batteries, power supplies and motherboards that at best are a temporary solution. This issue really needs to be addressed.

This problem intermittently occurred when using Windows7, and continues to happen intermittently after upgrading to Windows 10.  I notice that status reads "Plugged in but not charging", with blinking white light near adapter. If I shutdown, the problem seemingly persists (blinking white light). If I simply remove and replace the battery while powered off, charging resumes and works for a while (maybe a day or two), but before long I have to repeat the process. I need to get an additional laptop for my wife, and was hoping to get another Envy 15, but she will not be able to deal with this kind of a problem. I've read a number of other posts on this problem, but not seeing a definite solution.

The laptop is plugged in and the little LED light is on. The laptop is currently at 8% and is working fine but the battery is not charging. Further, the fan inside the laptop has been working continuously for the past half an hour. I request you suggest me ways to take care of this myself as I have exams  right now and won't be able to take the laptop to a service center. My laptop is an i7 5th Gen with serial number 5CD5174XQ6.

Hello, I have this message (PLUGGED IN, NOT CHARGING) that others have had.  I tried (as per someone in this forum) removing energy management software, reseat the battery, let it charge, and then restart.  I'm currently on the 3 step of charging.  What's strange is that it still says it's charging, but its now at 100%.  Is this considered fully charged?  Just wondering if I should restart.   Also, how long before performing the GAUGE RESET is a good idea?  Does the process really take hours as the remark in the program.  I've only had this laptop for a few weeks. Thanks!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with battery in your Lenovo G70 laptop.
 
You can uninstall the Microsoft ACPI; go to device manager select the drop down list under batteries. Right click on the Microsoft ACPI complaint control battery method and select uninstall and restart the machine.
 
Battery gauge reset depends on the number of cells of the battery, if the battery is 9 cells it more time to charge and discharge.
 
Try to uninstall the Microsoft ACPI first then try to perform battery gauge reset. Let us know how it goes.

Hi, I initially had a problem when my battery was plugged in but it wasn't charging. Later on, after a few searches here and there, including on hp forums, I found a post that explained the problem. So, I followed the instructions in that post to the letter, and it worked. But not for long, I turned off the laptop at night and when I turned it on in the morning again, it displayed the same message, "Plugged in, not charging". I repeated the same steps and then it started to charge again, but then when I shut it down and turned it on again, it did the same thing. I can't keep doing this again and again, I need a permanent solution. This is the second time I had this problem. The first time, replacing the whole power brick and cord fixed it. Now, about a year later, the same thing is happening! The battery is only at 40% and it has a horrible battery life. The adapter is an igo green adapter, so the computer MUST be in use for it to charge. Hitting the button on the brick when the power is off does nothing. What do I do? This is my main computer and I would be lost without it. My son needs it for homework often and he would FAIL without it.

I have a hp envy 15 x360 pc laptop windows 10. Battery icon on the bottom right of the screen says "plugged in and not charging.if i keep it plugged in i can use it after waiting a while so that it actually turns on. If i unplug it the laptop will shut off on the spot. I tried everything i can possibly think of, also tried everything said on the forums and as directed by hp support assistant. It has been 3 months the battery is not getting charged. When I hover the mouse, it shows "Plugged in, not charging" And now the battery is not giving any backup at all. The moment I remove the AC Adapter, it turns off. I know it can be fixed by the Firmware update but I am not able to find any BIOS update on HP website.Please help me with this issue.  Just give the steps and I will be doing the troubleshooting myself.

Do you know if the laptop is still under warranty? Here a few things to try: 1. Unplug the powercord from the outlet, wait a few minutes then plug it in a different outlet in a different room. 2.  Examine the entire length of the power cord for tears, dents, and worn-down insulation. If you notice any, or if the power brick is warped or smells like burnt plastic, the cord is probably faulty. 3. If the cord's attachment to your laptop wobbles or feels loose, there could be a problem with the connection. Unplug the cord, remove debris with a wooden toothpick, and remove heavy dust build-up with compressed air. 4. Shut down the computer, remove the battery, and plug the computer in. If the computer won't turn on, you probably need a new cord. If you can start it up again in this situation, the charging issue is probably due to the battery itself, or your computer's interaction with the battery.

I bought a dell inspiron for my (teenage) daughter about a year ago, a few months after the charger wasn't being recognized.It said it needed a 50 watt charger, but the one I had was 55 watts. We kept it plugged in even though it wasn't charging because she needed to use the laptop. Everything was slow though... it said system performance would slow down which ***. I've bought a bunch of new chargers. All 50+ watts.All have the same problem. After a while for the battery it said "no battery detected" even though there WAS a battery in there. I bought a new charger and a new battery yesterday. The battery I put in was at about 35% charge and was recognized. However, when I plugged in the charger, it said plugged in not charging. Again, we (she) kept it in because she does use this laptop quite frequently. Today I noticed that AGAIN, no battery was detected. I am annoyed and we are going to take the laptop in (hopefully) for repairs tomorrow. I don't know if I'm currently going to be able to afford it. What is the issue? 

Answer:Plugged in not charging

Only OEM Dell adapters will charge the battery.  If you've tried more than one OEM adapter, the problem is with the DC jack (next thing to replace;  if you need the part reference, we'll need the full model number - i.e., Inspiron 3552, etc.).
If the jack doesn't get the adapter recognized,  then the issue is likely with the mainboard.

when i do a search online, this seems to be a common problem with acer laptops. obviously you cannot remove the battery since it is built in the S3 as a lot of people have suggested to do that with removable batteries to reset it. the issue appears to be intermittent. sometimes it says 100% charged but other times it says 98% available (plugged in, not charging). even though there is a lot of people complaining about this on the internet, i cannot find a solution to this issue. please help. thank you.

Hi Igbalfa This problem isn't particularly an Acer fault - it is a Windows Anomaly! Shutdown laptop & remove power cable. Underneath your laptop there is a battery reset pinhole. Use a pin or a paperclip to reset the battery. If that alone doesn't work then additionally: Connect power & restartGo to device manager (right click "Computer" & select manage)Under the Batteries section, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery (or similar) listings, and select Uninstall.Shutdown laptop & disconnect mains powerReset your battery (as above)Connect power & restartHopefully, the message will be gone & it should now charge.

Hello! I have a dell inspiron 7537 laptop running windows 10 home. I have issues with either battery or something else.. My power cord is connected but its not charging the battery.I have tried every trick on the internet but no cookie so far. I've had the same problem with the same laptop before but then formatting my PC solved that issue. Then this problem suddenly appeared again. Biggest problem for me is that i cant play any games anymore because my laptop is not running on full power due to not charging. At least thats what I think. Games ran perfectly before. I thought maybe removing the battery will help me to play at least but instead, my laptop shuts down when i run ANY game on my drive. For me its not acceptable. I've been a fan of dell laptops for 8 years now, this is my third one that ive bought brand new. I really hope that there is a solution for that, otherwise I'm forced to change teams :S Any help?

Did you update the battery firmware update and battery Maintenance through Power Manager?
Also can you post the model your using and just verify for me that the battery your using is a lenovo battery with a lenovo fru number. Also post the Power Manager version your using and OS please.

My 5 months old Dell XPS 15 was running low on battery and when I plugged in my charger I saw the message: "plugged in and not charging". I contacted Dell Support but I'm wondering if there is something I can do in the meantime?I already tried to update my bios in the hope that would help but my battery is at 7% at this moment and Dell doesn't allow a bios update when battery percentage is below 10%.

What is the exact system model? 
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Ensure you back up all imp data on the system and then force the BIOS flash if required - http://dell.to/2hnhjs4
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Test with another adapter and battery first, if the adapter fits in loose, then replace the dc port, if nothing works, then the motherboard might be at fault.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

Hi,My laptop is showing plugged in and not charging. It's on 0% so I cannot use the laptop without a plug. I have tried a battery gauge reset which didn't work, the firmware update which said it was uncompatible with my machine and I have also uninstalled energy management as these were all suggestions on other posts. My laptop is in warranty.This isn't the only problem- my trackpad is jumpy, freezes everytime I use the laptop and my scroll functions only work half the time. How do I send my laptop into repair for these problems?
