Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Host Controller is working porrly with cards, T420s

Question: Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Host Controller is working porrly with cards, T420s

I've T420s, Ricoh PICe SDXC/MMC Host Controller, and several SD cards. Right away I can say that the cards (Kingston, Samsung, Transcend) are all right, tried them on different computer and phone, they work well, so I assume this is not a card issue. I never used Card reader extensively, so I can't say if it started lately or was always like that, my T420s is about 1 year old and I'm running Windows 7 32bit. Here is the problem. Device seems to be switching on and off all the time when the card is inserted or taken out. I can say this as I'm keeping device manager window open. It seems like the connection between card reader and motherboard (?) is very bad, as I have to press on the device to pop out and press it back in to appear in the list of devices. When I plug in the card, it might actually show up, but then, when I pop out the card and pop it back it, it won't show again. So I have to take out the device itself again to have a chance of accessing my card. I've tried updating the driver from But it didn't help. I've seen this: But even if the device appears under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, there is no "Ricoh SD Disk Device" under "Disk Drives" most of the times when I insert cards. Anyone had similar issues?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Host Controller is working porrly with cards, T420s

Hi, answer42

I would make sure that the BIOS is up to date. If the BIOS is not up to date, the motherboard may not be fully recognizing when a card is present in the port. The latest BIOS for your machine is 1.35, and you can find that here. So definitely make sure the BIOS is up to date and see if that helps the issue.

Hope it helps,

Hi allMy T430s has a 04W3932 Ricoh Multi Card Reader. I have the "usual" problem that the card reader shows up in device manager, but an SD card that I insert is not seen. I have read all the threads on this subject I could find (quite a few) and manually installed this driver: The driver seems to install ok, but the problem persists. It is difficult for me to understand, why it should be so hard to publish a driver that works reliably and make this problem go away.I would appreciate a suggestion how to tackle thisThanks a lotRudi

Hi, Just did a clean (well, Lenovo Restore clean) Win 7 Pro 64 bit install on my 2441 W530.  The issue is that the card reader doesn't seem to recognize cards.  The Driver is installed and claims to be "working properly".  But if I shove a card in the slot and have it click in, nothing happens.  No little "thudump" noise from the O/S, no recognition of the drive in Windows Explorer.  Any ideas? Thanks, J

Answer:Ricoh PCIe SCXC/MMC card reader not recognizing cards...

If you boot the W530 from a Linux Live CD and attempt to access an SD Card, is it then recognized?  If not, I would say that it is a hardware issue (perhaps the internal card reader apparatus is loose).

My SD card slot does not work.
I am able to install this , and get an updated driver off windows update.
HOWEVER, in device manager, I see this message with a yellow "!"

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers
required for this device. (Code 31)

Have carried out an sfx /scannow but no corrupted files are reported.
Any ideas how to fix this?

My computer's make is Advent and I cannot get any joy from anyone online regarding my problem. I have posted to the Advent's forum and again, no one seems to know or answer.
These are the details:
Advent fp9004
Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit.

If you can provide a link to a driver's update, will this install automatically after downloading, or do I need to force the installation and what is the recommended way?

I would be very grateful for any information.

Answer:Ricoh SD Host Controller

Hello & welcome to sevenforums,

If you get an updated driver from Windows Update it means its on your computer now, you could manually try to install the Ricoh driver from the Device Manager .

from the device manager right click, search manually on your computer the path.

Follow this tutorial:
Driver Install - Device Manager

You could try to locate the driver name in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

If not working...the only link i founded for ricoh drivers v6.0:

Download the softpack sp37872 and extract it with 7-Zip for 32-bit Windows

Create yourself a restore point

Run the Setup.exe inside the extracted folder sp37872.

You can also manually install the driver from the Device Manager by pointing the search to look at the extracted softpack sp37872 if running the setup.exe doesn't work properly on your machine.

I have been having a problem with my built in Ricoh card reader for quite a while, originally while running Vista Ultimate x86 and now with Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I have an Asus G1s.
The problem is that it does not read SD cards, and when I insert an sd card the "Ricoh memory stick disk device" under disk drives in device manager changes to "Ricoh xd-Picture card disk device" and suffers from error 10 failing to start. It seems to me that the problem id that the card reader does not recognise the sd card and thinks it is an xd card.
Under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" I jave three Ricoh devices
Ricoh memory stick controller Hardware id
Ricoh SD/MMC Host controller HW id
and Ricoh xd-picture card controller HW id
Apart from that I have Ricoh 1394 OHCI compliant Host controller HW id
and my standard sda controller HW id
It seems like there is a problem either with the firewire host or the sd sdbus.sys host not recognising the card
I have fully updated all drivers and even tried to change the compatible hardware id in the sdbus.inf and reloading to match the sd host controller al to no avail.
I would very much appreciate any help as the usb card readers I buy are always ... Read more

WIN 7 Ultimate, 64 bit, ASUS M3A78-EM Motherboard.

I built my PC about 3-4 year ago using the above MB and OS and I am very happy with it.

I recently decided to install a 4 port, front, USB 3 hub.

The MB doesn't directly support USB 3 but does have a PCIe 2 slot.

I purchased from Scan a Lycom UB-115, 1x Ext' 1 x Int' 2 x port USB 3 PCIe card, this is a powered card as is the front hub which was puchased seperate to the card.

The multi software disk that came with the PCIe card is NEC.

Installing the front 4 port hub was a doodle, on restarting machine, new hardware was recognised and successfully installed and I know power is getting to hub.

I wasn't so lucky with the software, the NEC 64 bit software installs OK but the USB 3 host controller/driver is not found. If I look in device manger it is not there under Universal Serial Bus Controller, ( which is where I assume the USB 3 controller would show ) and there are no yellow warning triangles, Windows simply can't find the installed software/ host controller/driver.

I spoke to Scan who directed me to Lycom's driver download page, there is an update, so downloaded it, uninstalled previous version, installed update version, still no joy, nothing in device manger.

If I click start, all programs, I can see the software, if I click on the USB 3 Utility icon, a window pops us informing USB 3 Host Controller/Drive not found.

Can anyone help me to resolve this issue?

HI all - I tried to search for an existing thread but....

I have TWO pcie NEC USB 3.0 host controller cards installed. Each card has two usb 3.0 ports.

Everything was fine until I installed the second card. Now I get a BSOD only when I shutdown, and it seems every time I shutdown. It boots fine.

Question: I know I have given very little detail but in general, is there any reason I should not be able to have two of these cards installed? The device mgr actually looks like 3 are installed (under USB Controllers).

Windows 7 (of course)

Hi Elliot and welcome
Without the DMP's there could be a million reasons. You should be able to have two or more but if the number of drivers/devices in device mgr is different than the correct number that in itself could be the problem...Try UN-installing the highest number device.

Your second link is broken.

I dont see how you could convert it because I would think that you wont physically fit the card in as it will then sit too high.

Secondly, your PSU wont handle two cards, let alone three.

In Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus controllers, the next line has a !surrounded by yellow. I went to Radio Shack and looked on their computer (not like mine), but Device Mgr. was the same except on the 2nd line there was no dash and it said "interrupt Request 11" and then on the next line "Input/Output Range 2080-209F. I hear they are going be coming out soon.

Yes 1TB or 2TB memory cards!! There is 16GB and 32GB cards now !! But they are very very very very costly .And when SDXC come out only the rich will be able to get it.

Why is memory cards and like flash so costly? I mean I get get 500GB hard drive or 1TB hard-drive alot cheaper !!!

Not to say with cloud computing with your data on the internet is future.

Answer:What do you think of SDXC (up to 2TB SD cards that are as fast as SATA 1 HDD's !!

Unfortunately, trying to predict how a device not yet on the market will actually perform is the geek version of fortune telling.

Using SSDs as an example, the concept of no spinning platters implied better reliability. In reality, most of the first generation SSDs were far more prone to failure than a standard 7200 RPM HDD (I worked in retail at the time; the return/RMA rate on every brand except Intel was off the charts!).

As for the price, I have a few theories: First, manufacturers of any new product attempt to recoup as much of their R&D costs as possible when it first hits the market (think of DVD players, LCD monitors, etc.). Second, it likely costs a lot less to build a standard HDD than a solid state unit - especially when you factor in economies of scale (when you produce millions each year, the manufacturing/labor cost per unit is much less than an item produced in smaller quantities).

I currently have Motherboard Asus P5B-Plus Vista edition which has
1 x PCI-E x16, 3 x PCI-E x1, 3 x PCI 2.2

I plan to build a data server with this motherboard and buy Promise Supertrak EX8350 which is PCI-E x4 Raid controller card.

My question is. Instead of buying a new motherboard that has PCI-E x4 slot.
Can I just install the PCI-E x4 Raid controller card into PCI-E x16 slot which is normally for video card? And Just buy a cheap regular PCI video card for PCI 2.2 slot?

Hopefully someone could help me with this and I thank you in advance.

Go to your device manager and check your usb controllers for one that is "enhanced". If it isn't there, update your driver. Did you get a disk with the pci card? You may need to disable your old ports until you install the 2.0 and then enable again.

I have been working on this on/off all weekend and I STILL cannot get my USB 2.0 ports to work again and they were all working fine for the past 10 months. All 8 USB ports stopped working in 2.0 mode last week. They work perfectly fine in 1.1 mode using the standard Host Controller (BIOS is set for 1.1+2.0) when I disable the enhanced host controller.

My drivers are apparently screwed and I have done mostly everything suggested in various web sites to revive them (they had to be overwritten!).

My mobo doesn't have any updated chipset drivers (nVidia) and I simply reloaded my XP drivers to no avail.

Outside of the obvious/common troubleshooting, any one have any thoughts on this issue? I believe an update killed my ports!

However, soon after I restarted the computer, the PCI card no longer works - cannot detect any usb device connected . Having said that, device manager does not show any unrecognized device .

When I connected the mouse to the USB port of the PCI card, it lights up, but no any response.

Could anyone give a hand on this issue? Thanks.

Answer:Fresco Logic USB 3.0 Host Controller - Not working after pc restart

Welcome to Seven Forums huikiutat.
In Device Manager does it show your USB3.0 card? If so you can try RevoUninstaller (link in my sig) and remove the Fresco drivers. Then Reinstall them.

Hi. First, im on a Lenovo Y510p Laptop. Yesterday, windows updated through windows update and when i logged into my computer, none of my usb ports were working. As in: My external mouse and keyboard were not connecting, they were working just before the update though.(they are new.) Device manager said there was an error with some driver so i tried to update, it said it was where it needed to be, so i uninstalled it, restarted the computer and it was fixed. Now, USB ports still not working, i have an error with this driver:

USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller
Under device status, it says:
Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)
The specified image file did not have the correct format, it did not have an initial MZ.

Im not sure what other information i should give so here is some stuff that may help:

When i press update driver it says that it is running the latest driver.
Obviously, this driver is under Universal serial bus controllers in device manager.
I use the laptop for mostly gaming.
My mouse and keyboard WERE working before the update the same night.
Any more info that could help just let me know, thanks so much.

VIA USB 3.0 eXtensible Host controller card don't work after update til Fall Creators update. No errors, but either USB 2 nor USB 3 devices can be seen on the USB 3 ports on this PCI-e card.

Have tried to find new drivers for it, but no succes. The driver is also really new, 28 Sep. 2017 ver. 10.0.16299.15 Microsoft Digital.

Any idea how to get this up and running again in Windows 10 build 1709?

Forgot: The onboard USB 3 is working allright, it is just this add-on card that does not work after the update. The card worked fine under previous windows 10 version build 1703

How can I find out if my SD card reader supports SDXC cards.
My laptop is a satellite A300 and the properties of the card reader say " SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controlle".

Am I able lto use SDXC cards with this device and if not am I able to upgrade the software to support SDXC cards?

Thanks for your help

Answer:Satellite A300 - Does card reader support SDXC cards?

I read in the forum about the card reader on Satellite A300 and I found very useful info.
The card reader supports following kind of cards:

- SD Card - 8MB-2GB
- SDHC Card - 4GB
- xD picture card - 16MB-2GB
- Memory Stick - 8MB-256MB
- Memory Stick Pro - 256MB-2GB
- MultiMediaCard - 8MB-1GB
- miniSD (with SD adapter) - 32MB-2GB

As you can see teh SDXC cards are not supported... in such case I recommend using an common external USB card reader which would support the SDXC cards

Hello everyone. Question: Does Twist support 128 GB SDXC cards? Explanation: I've purchased the 128 GB SDXC card (Class 10 UHS-1) produced by OltraMax. It was the cheapest one and work perfectly everywhere except my notebook =) It's very sad, you will definitely agree with me because the is only 128GB SSD drive installed in my Twist and it's starting to annoy.I've checked the version of drivers of Realtek PCIE cardreader and they are the last. (6.2.8400.29034)Here is photo of the product, it doesn't explain anything, but could get a view. Thanks for answers

Answer:Lenovo Twist S230u - does it handle 128GB SDXC cards?

I did some testing of various SDXC cards in a ThinkPad S230u and did not observe any problems.  You can read about it in the following message thread:  ThinkPad Twist s230u 4 in 1 card reader UHS-1 support

I have a real problem here .............My 2 main SD cards work fine in my Ricoh GX200 but not on my Panasonic, my Nikon or on my built-in reader on the computer. The cameras say CARD ERROR and the PC says load card into reader (when it is already there. These are two cards, one a Transend 4gb, the other an 8gb Delkin Pro.It's as if using them in the Ricoh has stopped them working anywhere else.Other cards I have work in the other cameras and the PC.I have tried formatting them clean in the Rocoh but no luck.Any ideas would be seriously welcome.

Answer:SD cards work with Ricoh cameras but not others?

Problems solve... Doh....It was SD SDHC capacity problem. The old cameras would not accept a new card..

Device: Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2830 till 2836 and 283A

Driverversion is:
Driverdate: 15.09.2006

is not working!

Can anybody help me? Where do I find the actual driver?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Sat. A300 - USB ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller is not working

The Intel Chipset driver handles USB drivers. You can download it from the Toshiba Support/Drivers Website.

But if you installed a strange USB Device recently (perhaps a USB keyboard/mouse/HDD), its driver may be conflicting. So you would need to remove that driver from Control Panel -> Program Features first, then reinstall the Intel Chipset Driver.

Hey there wche5,
I found some information over on this thread may be beneficial to your situation. This controller enables USB over wireless as part of the Intel (WiDi) Wireless Display function. To obtain a fix you will need to go to the Intel Site, and run the Intel Driver Update Utility. This should identify any Intel drivers you have that are out of date, including the WiDi driver.
Other threads on the forums point directly to this driver by Intel that typically resolves the problem, found on this thread at the end.
I hope this able to assist you in getting a solution to your issue, Thank You wche5!

Hi All!

I'm new here, so I'm guessing as to which forum this should go in. Please forgive if I've put it in the wrong place!

I'm having some issues with my desktop computer. Over the past few months it's been running slower and slower, especially online and especially when streaming graphics are concerned. Webkinz runs rediculously slow, and movies on youtube are pretty much unwatchable.

There was also this odd problem of the computer not being able to properly boot from "off". It would run through the RAM test and identify the various hardware (disk drives, CD ROM, DVD, etc) and then freeze indicating that I needed to insert a boot disk (or something like that). I'd then give it a CTRL ALT DEL and it would run through the startup just fine. I'm sorry that I can't remember the exact error message, but the problem seems to have disappeared after the below actions were completed.

I started trying to fix things by clearing room on my harddrive. I'm not much of a computer tech, but I figured a fuller harddrive might cause some issues. I got rid of all my music and video files and backed up all my photos and deleted them. I also removed everything "superfluous" that I could find (e.g. RealPlayer, Java, Adobe, etc). There was no effect.

I use an ATI Radeon 9800 video card, so I thought maybe if I reinstalled, or at least updated the drivers, that might help. I use Omega drivers. There was no increase in performance.

It was whi... Read more

Answer:Really slow working desktop PC. Possible SCSI/RAID host controller problem?

I got the Video card incorrect... it's a 9600, not a 9800.

Anyways, attached are the Everest report, screen shot of the hardware profile and txt files containing some of the error messages. There were a lot more error messages on application events, so I've taken just the most recent.

Greetings! I'm currently working on reinstalling win on my cousin's y580 with following specs:Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3110M CPU @ 2.40GHz8GB RAMGEFORCE GTX 660M Everything went smoothly until the part where I want to install USB 3.0 drivers (responsible for 2x3.0 USB and 2.0 USB port). I tried everything from installing win7 drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling them with Windows Update to forcing INTEL drivers intalation. So far no luck. Browsing the forum I happened to find the topic: , where the guy assumes that motherboard is broken cause he bought it with "broken USB ports". That is not the case, ports were working just fine on win8 until the moment win10 was introduced. In the device manager the driver shows the error 10. I also came for advice to my friend using the same notebook with better specs(i7) and they are working fine for him. So my question finally is: have anyone solved this problem for the given spec already and/or is it the case of the 64bit system(not fully supported with those specs)? I am frankly out of ideas rn. Cheers, Hubert

I did this by using another HD and restore it back to the original shipped state and the port is working.  Now the problem is how to restore the driver (or it might the registry problem?) I have already tried by unistalling all the ports in DM and reboot the system and let it rediscover again. Answer:What kind of SD card controller is in a Lenovo IdeaPad 120S-11AIP? SDHC or SDXC compatible?

Hi ITWorxLA,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
As per system overview :
IO port: Memory card slot (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC)
Platform specification:
One microSD Card slot, supports up to 2TB
Usually there would be stickers on the box or laptop to indicate the format it also supports.
You can try to find/borrow  a spare 32GB SDXC to test first before purchase.
Hope this helps answer your query.

Yesterday I installed a Samsung 950 pro 256gb m2 pcie nvme ssd into a Dell E7270
Older configuration was with a sandisk regular sata 3 ssd. After replacement did a bios reset twice, once factory reset, once custom. (I left sata on ahci.)
I chose to install windows 10 pro x64 by using the uefi/gpt methode. Legacy options off.
Installation went without a problem. Afterwards I installed the Samsung nvme driver
Also the Samsung magician software. It reports a link speed 8Gbps (is ok), link width 16 Gbps (should be 32?) .
Is there a way to change the pcie link width from 2x to 4x? I thought this ultrabook did support x4.

hi so i have a dell studio 1458 laptop. now i have a Express Card (EC) on it and in the manual says that it can do all kool things like wifi cards and what not. however in the manual, it also says *not compatable with PC cards* however im trying to do this:

External Graphics Card - Add a eGPU video card to your laptop PE4H PE4L - YouTube

so i can play nice games and what not. but that is calling for a PCI express slot. what i have, is it an PCI express slot, and will that work with that PE4H adapter? or no cause it just can support PCI express since the manual says. i figured id ask B/C its an adapter.

Answer:Help with EC and PCIE cards

I can't imagine that actually working, or why anyone would want to have exposed components and a power supply sitting around. Why not just have a desktop for gaming, considering that isn't a portable solution anyway?

Simply put, if you want to play the latest games, a laptop isn't the way to go unless you drop some serious coin. That's the trade off you agree to with a laptop, in exchange for portability.

Simple question really;

I'm about to purchase a BTX-chassi and a BTX-motherboard. The motherboard has a regular PCIe x16-slot.

I do also have a graphics card with the PCIe x16 interface, from my old ATX-chassi.

Can I simply pop the card in the PCIe-slot, or does the BTX-structure require something else like an inverted card specifically made for the BTX?

Answer:Does PCIe x16-cards fit in BTX-chassis as well?

i'm pretty sure it works all the same, with the slot being the same distance from the chassis itself as with an ATX.

Hi ZooMan.......
the mobo you have is an ''SLI'' board as im sure your aware, they obviously wont work in tandem, & i don't think they'll work independantly of each other either as it would require 2 different drivers...

just buy a ''DVI to HDMI'' dongle

I hope I'm posting this in the right place.
So I've been thinking of buying a capture card (PCIe), but before I actually go buy one I want to just make sure that what I'm thinking is actually the case.
So.. I want to live stream gameplay, the CPU load gets hefty because it's juggling resources with the stream as well as the actual game I'm playing.
My question to you guys is, will a PCIe capture card take up the CPU load off my computer (The streaming live encoding stuff), giving my computer (CPU) the freedom to concentrate on the game?
This is the capture card I'm interested in, will this do exactly what I'm hoping it will do?

Answer:PCIe Capture Cards, CPU load etc.

I gather that you are playing a PC-based game and live streaming on the same PC? If so, then the capture card will not help in any way.

The function of a capture card is to capture the video/audio feed from a console, or a separate PC. It will have no effect if the game is played on the same PC that the capture card is installed in.

No matter the source, the gameplay will have to be encoded by the streaming PC. Your encoding settings can be tweaked to find the right balance between stream quality and CPU load.

I believe I am talking about "fake" raid here.

To the point:
I am building a file server using FreeNAS with a PC thats over a few years old, I'd say around 3-4 years, wanting to set up a RAID function with this.

I've learned after a bit of reading that there are such things as fake raid, where the processor actually handle where the data goes, and this is fine... as these also seem to be much cheaper. I'm using a bit older mobo (can post model later, upon request) that has 2 SATA ports for RAID 0 or 1. I am considering getting a card to support up to 4 HDDs.

Here are options I've been looking at.

Syba PCI Express SATA II 4 x Ports RAID Controller Card SY-PEX40008

Adaptec RAID 1430SA - Storage controller (RAID) - 4 Channel - SATA-300 low profile - 300 MBps - RAID 0, 1, 10, JBOD - PCI Express x4

SYBA SY-PCI40026 PCI Low Profile SATA II (3.0Gb/s) Controller Card

Adaptec 2240900-R 1430SA PCI Express X4 4-Port SATA 3GBS Low-profile Host RAID Controller

Now, I realize doesnt give good descriptions.

Also, is there a RAID function build into FreeNAS? I cannot seem to get window shares to work with that... so I still need to work that out...using 8.2

Answer:RAID cards, PCI and PCIe, best option?

Here are options I've been looking at.

Syba PCI Express SATA II 4 x Ports RAID Controller Card SY-PEX40008

Adaptec RAID 1430SA - Storage controller (RAID) - 4 Channel - SATA-300 low profile - 300 MBps - RAID 0, 1, 10, JBOD - PCI Express x4

Adaptec 2240900-R 1430SA PCI Express X4 4-Port SATA 3GBS Low-profile Host RAID ControllerClick to expand...

Adaptec has been the leader for decades and using the CARD avoids the 'fake-raid' software implementation. One big advantage is the card completes the operation without the assistance of the CPU.

Once you opt for the raid-controller card, you (imo) really ought to go with
SCSI attached devices which give you hotplug support and dynamic raid recovery.[x]

Be carefull: Even Microsoft does not recommend attempting to boot from a Raid.
Raid is a server function to avoid a single point of failure, and even with Raid-1 or Raid-10, you still need a backup system.

[x]The NAS Raid-x is frequently SCSI internally for these reasons

Hello, I have a HP Pavilion HPE h8-1360t Desktop and I have been trying to install a Vantec 2-Port SATA II 300 PCIe Host Card with RAID. It uses a Silicon Image 3132 controller The operating system is Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 64 bit. The computer does not recognize the card in any of the PCIe slots and it does not appear in the device manager. Enter the BIOS and see if it is recognized as being present. That is where you should begin. According to the information on Vantec's website you should see the SATA ports in the device manager after it is installed.  Best regards, erico

I have a Dell Inspiron 3668 I7, 16Gb ram, Graphics card, 2TB HDD.  I have a 250 G SSD, caddy, and SATA power in hand to be installed.  Power for this SSD comes from the second HDD power jack (jack #8 in the manual.
Because of reasons I won't get into here, I have 4 external HDDs in enclosures with USB 3 interfaces and I need to have anywhere from 1 to all 4 of these drives connected and on-line depending on the application.
I would like to install a 4 port USB3 PCIe card on one of the available PCIe slots.  Problem is these cards require some sort of power (either a molex or SATA) cable to work properly.  One worry I have is the power supply in this system is only 240 watts and I am wondering if it will be enough to drive the USB card and where will I get the power from?
Does anyone have suggestions or comments?

Answer:USB 3 PCIe cards on Dell Inspiron 3668

Do the cards you're considering have a recommendation for the minimum PSU wattage?
You already have 2 USB3 ports on this PC. So if you need to connect 4 external USB3 drives, maybe you only need a 2-port USB3 PCIe x1 card...? That might draw less power.
And you might be able to use a SATA Y-splitter cable by connecting one arm to an internal drive and the other arm to the PCIe card.
OR, what about an external USB3 hub with it's own power brick? Connect the hub to one of the available USB3 ports and plug its power brick into the wall. Then connect 1 of your external USB3 drives to the remaining onboard USB3 port, and the other 3 drives to the powered USB3 hub. Or maybe connect all 4 to the powered hub...

What is the difference between these two
-Realtek 1x Gigabit LAN Controller
-Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

asus m5a88v-evo

Answer:Realtek 1xGigabit LAN Controller vs Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

That 1x you posted from the specs is actually 1 x,

Realtek?, 1 x Gigabit LAN Controller(s)

meaning that there is one controller on the motherboard. Some boards come with dual LAN controllers, hence why they mentioned it only having one. The second will be the name of the onboard LAN controller.

I have been running ubuntu on my T420s for about 2 years now.  Needed a Windows box to work from home so I installed Windows 7 Home Premium - Service Pack 1 on it.  Installation went smooth but Windows did not recognize my wireless card, preventing me from connecting to the internet to download and install the rest of my drivers.  I tried to manually install the Intel Wireless Lan (bg, abg, abgn) for Windows (64-bit) Centrino Advanced-N 6205 which is what I thought was installed on my machine to no avail. Has anyone expierenced this problem before that could point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Answer:T420s (4170-CTO) Windows unable to recognize network controller

Hi, xm
If you navigate to Control Panel ? Device Manager, what devices do you see underneath the Network adapters tree? Also, just to make sure, I would recommend navigating into the BIOS to Securiity ? I/O Port Access and making sure the wireless LAN is Enabled.
Thanks in advance,

I'm not sure if you help with digital camera problems but it's worth a try asking. My mom owns a Ricoh digital camera and when she upgraded to Windows XP, she is no longer able to download her pictures from the camera to the pc. She downloaded the appropriate drivers and still has no success. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

She's running a custom built P3, 333MHz, 128MB, 15 gig.

I have 5 of these cards pulled from a Dell PowerEdge 1950 and they test perfectly. There are also (4) 1Gbps cat5/6 connections in each server for a total of 8Gbps available! The must have been doing some pretty heavy networking!

While I have little to no use for fiber cards at this point I guess they could be useful down the line or I could try to sell them. I see them listed for $625 on FleaBay at Buy it now, and then the average price is $375-$500.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why these would be so much better than the other Gigabit adapters other than the distance restriction on Cat5 wiring?

Answer:Just came across (5) PCIe 4Gbps 4/chan Fiber Cards - anyone know of uses or interest?

Those are fiberchannel HBAs, not regular NICs. You can't use them for general networking, just storage networking. Are all 5 dual port models? Depending on price I might be interested in 3 of them.

I installed Marvell RAID PCIe SATA card and could manage to enter Marvell configuration utility using Ctrl + M.

I installed 2nd card and I can see it in Windows using Marvell software and I created RAID successfully..

But I want to rid of this software (it installs loads of things I don't need (Apache, PHP, a website etc)

I tried Ctrl + M again and it only shows Card 0.

How do I manage second card in Marvell Configuration Utility during boot?

Answer:How to manage 2 Marvell RAID PCIe cards during boot?

Sorry and it is likely just me.

When you say you installed a Marvell Raid PCIe Sata card is this just the Marvell RAID card and then you attach your storage to this or is there SSD storage built into card.

When I search this term I get two cards but each has ports for drives to be connected too.

I then read your comment that you installed a second card which has me thinking this is actual storage.

If you could help me understand are these actual storage devices or cards to add ports and functionality.

What im ultimately looking for is a way to power up my notebook video-wise. I have a Toshiba Satellite M45. I want to be able to play games better. I have already upgraded my RAM to 1GB and looking into upgrading it further to 1.5 GB. However, my current video card is a complete let-down. It is an ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M (mobile). I was looking for a way to make my video performance better. I do not want to take apart my notebook, and i DO NOT want to get a new computer (and i cant) so dont say that. Here are my options:

1.Get an external video card. I dont know if these have come out yet, but i tried looking it up on google and just got paragraphs of people ranting about how sweet theyre gunna be when they come out.
2.Get some sort of external adapter than let me use PCIe or AGP cards. Maybe there is a USB connector that you plug into your laptop, and it leads to a box where you can input an AGP or PCIe video card. Does this exist? i looked on google but i couldnt seem to phrase it right and always got results of PCIe or AGP cards that have USB inputs, not the other way around.
Thanks for any suggestions, or please is there is another way to inprove my performance WITHOUT BUYING A NEW COMP, please let me know. Thanks!

So I want to use wakeup on lan. I have searched google for answers of how to do this. I have done the power options on the ethernet adapter in device manager and went into BIOS to allow WOL (I couldn't find the option). I am using this app called unified remote to wakeup my laptop but it hasn't worked. I think it maybe has to do with the ethernet adapter turning off during sleep. If this is the case then how do I keep the ethernet adapter from turning off during sleep?

Answer:WOL realtek pcie gbe family controller

I had to go back to the realtek website and install their drivers. This adds an option under advanced properties for the LAN adapter in device manager for "WOL from power off" (or something like that) that wasn't there with the Microsoft driver.

I think I had to extract the Realtek drivers, right click on the LAN adapter in device manager, update driver, choose from list of hardware, have disk -> select the .inf file, and manually install the driver that way, IIRC.

So, I've run into a little problem that has me stumped. I am building a machine for gaming. Here's what I have in it:

Asus M2N32-SLi Deluxe
AMD FX-62 @ 2.8GHz
4x 512Mb (2Gb total) Ultra DDR2 XL 800Mhz
nVidia 7950 GX2 (1Gb RAM)
Silicon Image 3132 HDD controller 1x PCI Express
2x WD 250Gb SATA, RAID 0

I put that SiI 3132 card in because of the nForce 590SLi MCP's incompatibility with those two HDDs (I've tried everything to make these drives work, and it won't even work with only one drive).

Now, everything works fine except for the video card. I can install Vista with no problems (both the 64 bit and 32 bit versions) but when I try running 3Dmark06 or CounterStrike or any 3d program (in 32 bit or 64 bit Vista), I get small artifacts on the load screen then the video driver crashes. Of course, Vista is nice and doesn't allow that to crash the entire system and just shuts down the game and reloads the video driver.

I did use an old school IDE HDD as a temporary fix before I got the 3132 controller and successfully ran 3Dmark and all kinds of games on the same vid card. I would hope this HDD controller is not the cause of all the trouble, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was  . I have all the new drivers from nVidia for both the chipset and the video card.

Anyone have any idea what it could be or any tips on what to do? I greatly appreciate any help in advance. Thanks guys!

> z420 Which slot should I install Matrox MXO2 PCIE Host Adaptor? The general rule is "wherever it fits", but take a close look at the PCI-E slots on the motherboard, because the labelling could be '1X' or '4X' or '16X'.  Putting a '16X' adapter into a '4X' slot could inhibit its performance. > Also, does that long green plastic thing need to be reinserted before closing cover?  > Or is that just used when transporting the workstation? It helps push the add-in cards "tightly" down into the slots on the motherboard.

After not having found the Ricoh Media card reader in Device Manager I downloaded and installed driver using a link I found in this forum. Tried this a couple times until I actually found "Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Host Controller" under "Storage Controller" in Device Manager. However, there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation point. I double-click on the item and see that Device Status is "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device....(Code 52)" I go into the tabs and find that Driver Provider is Ricoh Company, driver date is 7/4/2012, Driver Version is and it is "Not digitally signed." I go into Resource Settings and find "This device is not using any resources because it has a problem." So is the card reader working (or ready to work) or not? BTW ThinkVantage Update never, in my recollection noted that I needed this driver when it was not visible in Device Manager. Also, if I go into C:\ drivers\Win\Multicard I find a folder "Driver" that has various files, incl. risdxc64.sys (I have Win 7 Pro 64-bit). So am I good to go re using the card reader--or not?

Answer:Ricoh card reader--working or not?

I have had the same problem as you. I have found to install I had to edit the configuration file to add Hardware ID 822 since the software looks for 822. Have you figured it out? I installed the driver but the card reader does work when i insert SD card. Also USB devices not working. Iam trying to image using sysprep and windwos 7, was wondering if you are in same boat?

I've tried searching this forum, but I couldn't find anything that applied to my situation.

I had Vista x64, then upgraded it to Windows 7. I got the companion disc from Sony which included all drivers for upgraded Windows. Everything worked fine, except for SD card reader.

When I insert the card, it does not read. When I go to the device manager and disable / enable the device, it reads. If I take the card out, the computer doesn't realize that the card is not there anymore. If I try to browse the SD card on the computer after I eject it, the computer crashes. (Not immediately. I think Windows remembers what was in it for a little while.)
If I insert the SD card again later(with some changes made) without disabling Ricoh SD host controller in the device manager and enabling it again, it crashes the same way.
It was really annoying having to disable / enable this device every time, but I put up with it.

Recently my computer crashed and my recovery disc was corrupted, so I bought a Windows 7 x64 Home Premium and did a clean install.
I installed all other drivers including the latest motherboard driver, and of course the SD card reader from Sony support.

Exactly same thing happens.

I uninstalled / installed this driver multiple times, but same thing. I even reinstalled it with the "SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller" that Windows 7 installs for me.
Same thing.

I have to disable / enable the card reader device every time.

Hello all, I have a Thinkpad T61, 2gig processor, 4gig ram. It has an internal Ricoh 4 in 1 Card Reader. This reader was working just fine with all of my various cards and adapters untill I upgraded from Vista Buiseness 32 bit to Vista Ultimate 64 bit. When I insert my Sony Memory Stick ProDuo 8gig card(with adapter) into the reader it says that I must format the disk, and sometimes asks me to insert a disk. I try to format the disk and it gives me the error "cyclic rendundancy error" but when I put the card into an external Card Reader on this same machine it runs just fine as normal with the auto play window opening, ect. ect. This is really a pain because I don't want to have the external card reader attached all the time. Also I have a Trancend 4gig card that I use for Ready Boost in an external Card Reader, and it doesn't work in the internal Ricoh 4 in 1either. I have tried all the drivers, manual installs, auotmatic installs and I am out of things to try. Anyone out there have the same problem and if so how do we fix this?? It must be the driver, but as I said I have tried all of them??? Thanks a bunch for any info on this matter!! Singtoh

Ditto this.I've had this problem ever since th 64 bit OS was installed.Everything worked fine in Vista 32, just not 64. When I insert XD cards I often get BSOD's and many times when I put a SD card it's recognized the first time, but not the next time.It has almost been a year and no new drivers. Sigh.... they need an update!

There's a new update for my network adapter, but I'm having problems updating it. I downloaded the Win7 and WinServer 2008 R2 Driver 7.058 off RealTek's website and inside the 64b folder there is no setup or install. It only contains .dll and .sys.

How do I install this?

Answer:Solved: RealTek PCIe GBE Family Controller

You would use the "Update Driver" feature from Device Manager to update to this driver.

Instead of downloading the ZIP/manual update version, you can download the Auto Installation version from the Realtek website:
