Screen Brightness to Low on High on Thinkpad T60

Question: Screen Brightness to Low on High on Thinkpad T60

On my Thinkpad, the brightness is to low, even if I increase it to maximum. The only thing that seems to get the brightness to work correctly is connecting the laptop to an AC adapter. What could my issue be?

Preferred Solution: Screen Brightness to Low on High on Thinkpad T60

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Screen Brightness to Low on High on Thinkpad T60

The maximum brightness in battery mode is less than in AC-mode to save battery power. You can increase it in the BIOS under Config - Display - Brightness setting the value to "high" (see explanation text on the right side after selecting that item).

When the laptop starts up, when Reading the BIOS the brightnes on the screen is high and types/letters are like "bold and not very clear".Later, when Windows starts up the screen  has a high britghness, the types/letters are not clear, the color is saturated (it is difficult even to see the mouse pointer on the screen). The laptop intenal second screen (the laptop is dual screen W701ds) works ok.- Ckecked: The power management/plan (is ok).- BIOS is updated- Checking the video card is ok, with PC-Doctor and Windows identify the right card  (nvidia Quadro FX 3800M 1GB).- If using an external monitor, you can see the screen perfectly (video card works ok). ¿Anyone has had been same problem?

Answer:ThinkPad W701ds: High brightness at startup BIOS

Hi, fjdiazal

From what you've described, it sounds like the LCD panel of the main monitor is starting to go bad and will need to be replaced to solve this issue. This is especially true since both an external monitor and the secondary LCD are unaffected. I would recommend contacting Lenovo Support at +34-917-147-833 and discussing a LCD panel replacement with them.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hi! my ThinkPad shows a strange behavior... Suddenly the screen brightness was reduced by the system. Brightness is "15" but it is darker than before. I can not find any option to raise brightness!!!! I am using a Lenovo power supply unit. It is annoying to use the ThinkPad at daylight. Really exhausting looking at a screen thats too dark. Any tips? Regards, nightwatch83

Answer:Screen Brightness (ThinkPad Edge 15)

nightwatch83,

Some basic questions...

If you reboot to windows and are on AC is the screen still dim?   Does it respond at all to screen brightness increase / decrease settings?

If you restart and go into BIOS on AC, how bright is the display?  Any different than in Windows?

If the problem seems isolated in Windows, I would reload the power manager and hotkey drivers and recheck the settings in power manager for screen brightness.

Best regards,

Mark

I recently updated my BIOS from Lenovo's Drivers and Software page and it seemed to have locked my screen's brightness at the fullest setting. I've tried restarting the computer and adjusting it from the windows menu, but it still stays in one setting. It's too bright to use in dim situations now. Hi I have a brand new E520 and I love it. But there's a quite annoying problem with the screen: it tends to change brightness (it gets brighter or darker in 3 or 4 steps). Could anyone tell me how to fix this? Thanks.

Answer:Thinkpad E520 screen brightness problem

My E520, which I bought about 2 weeks ago, also has a problem nearly like you. When screen returns after turning off for energy saver, its contrast becomes extremely high. I have to wait for a few minutes for it to turn back to normal. Besides, one more symptom is that if I use the buttons for decrease brightness, the lowest level is 2, not 1. I found that it's the Thinkpad Video Features ( Intel Hurom River GT1/GT2) for Windows 7 64 bit. I restored my laptop to before the time I install it, and everything's ok. By the way, it seems that Lenovo usually has problems about driver, isn't it?

Hi everyone. I've a problem with mi Lenovo ThinkPad T400. The brightness is always at the minimum, and cannot be changed. But it is like when you close the laptop and the screens turns off, it is almost like that, I need a lantern to see what appears in the laptop, but besides that everything else works fine. If I connect it to an external monitor, then there is no problem, but you know, I don't wanna carry an external monitor with the laptop. Do you know how to deal with this? Thanks in advance!

Hello Lenovo! Please help me how to fix these bugs (or something) that makes my E550 screen no brightness at all. The E550 is displaying all the things in the screen but it's so hard to see because I cannot adjust the brightness at all. I think this was happened after a software update and I don't remember what it is. I tried to do all the things I have seen in Google searching up to the point I had reformatted the unit but nothing happened. Sometimes the screen is flickering and goes to normal but for 10 secs only and goes back again to no brightness at all. Please help!!!

Hi all, I would like to share my recent experience of Thinkpad X1 carbon (4th 2016) screen brightness problem, and how this problem been solved. The laptop cames good and the F5 and F6 function for screen brightness adjusting is OK. Other methods, like in the setting menu and battery menu,  to adjust the brightness are all OK.After one hour or one day or some short time, you will find you cannot adjust the brightness. Even the battery & power options are not working. The problem comes from the driver. First I thought it is the problem of driver of monitor (wide viewing angle high density flexview display 2560x1440 driver). I uninstall, update, change...but none of them work. Finally, I find it is the problem of intel hd graphics 520 . There is another evidence that during the time only this driver of intel hd graphics 520 has been updated automaticly to the latest version! So I uninstall and roll back to the version 20.19.15.4331 and the problem is solved.I did not check the lates version of this driver. But I am sure that the latest version of intel hd graphics 520 has conflict with the lenovo driver for screen brightness! I am sure there are other people face the same problem after the update of hd graphics 520 driver. Any engineer please check it!

I have just completed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate and all went well except for the screen brightness issue. Anyone have any ideas where I can simply increase this as I have searched everywhere for screen brightness, even BIOS for any setting for display. I have latest update to display driver. I have two other laptops and each shows much brighter than this one and I am surely disappointed in this display. Not sure if it is because this screen is touch enabled and also works off keyboard that could be the issue and a separate setting could be involved on the touch side of the display as it does work with a stylus pen or touch also. thanks and   I hope I can get this brightness to increase somewhat as it is too hazy for me.

I reformatted my X220i last night. I downloaded all the drivers via Lenovos website. Everything seems to work fine except a couple things; 1) This is the big one--the screen brightness buttons don't work. All of the other Fn keys work, so I'm unsure what the problem could be. Furthermore, I can't change the brightness by adjusting the power settings. it's stuck at a VERY low brightness level and I can barely see this text as I type it--super frustrating! 2) The display is showing in up in control panel as "Generic PnP Monitor"--perhaps the two issues are correlated? 3) Not a problem persay, but in WIE my graphics/gaming graphics scores a 1. I downloaded the drivers, so i have no clue why! Thanks guys. I really need to get this brightness thing figured out--any ideas/suggestions would be of great help to me.

Answer:Thinkpad X220i -- Screen Brightness buttons don't work -- Help please!

1. How did you install OS and drivers? Was it clear (fresh) installation or from the factory recovery media? Did you use Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update application for Lenovo drivers and software?2. You can download needed monitor file from the Lenovo site:http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS015012But this issue doesn't related the 1st one.3. It seems the chipset drivers has not been installed correctly. In which sequence did you install Lenovo drivers and OS upgrades?

Hi, I have the following issue since a couple of days (not sure it came with a recent windows/drivers upgrade): When I set the screen brightness to low, or the screen dims itself in a dark environment, it starts to flicker - there are flashes of white/blue as long as the brightness is low. Increasing the brightness gets rid of the problem. I tried disabling the panel self reflesh (PSR) which seemed to help others, but no success there. Anybody got the same issue and a possible solution? My specs: Windows 10 1709, Intel Graphics Drivers Version 21.20.16.4727 Video of the flickering:

My thinkpad's screen wasn't properly (dark) I purchased another screen and installed it and there was still nothing. If I shined a light on the screen I could see a very very VERY faint image of the startup screen/login screen and it appeared the screen was cut into four quadrants each showing the same image (4 illustrations of the same image in each of the screens quadrants). When I hook up the screen via HDMI to my TV the computer works just fine, I just can't use the laptop screen. Any ideas? I received a PCI/PCI e test failure when using the solutions center. The OS is Windows 8.1, the processor is an intel i5.

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E420 extremely dark screen, no brightness

The problem with your screen is the backlight. But because you have changed the screen the cause is either the wiring or the backlight power supply. The power supply appears to be part of the motherboard, so that leaves you the video harness or the motherboard. If it is the video harness, it is repairable, but it is much much easier to just replace it. As for the motherboard, you need to look at the video connector, both on the harness and on the motherboard, and make sure none of the contacts are bent over or burnt.

The first and only bug so far I have encountered with my P51: Out of the box, the machine is set with the Hybrid mode in BIOS, meaning it switches between the Intel GPU and the Nvidia Quadro M2200 (Optimus). I want my machine to always use the discrete GPU, so I switch to Discrete mode in the BIOS. This however means that you can no longer change the screen brightness of the internal screen, it is always set at 100 %. Definitely seems like a driver bug. I have tried reinstalling Windows already, same result: With the Hybrid mode I can change the screen brightness, with the discrete mode I can´t.

I just changed my ThinkPad T450 laptop screen to a full-HD IPS display. The new panel (display) shows up in the Device Manager with Hardware ID MONITOR\LGD03FF. While the screen works, I can no longer adjust the brightness in Windows 10 - it's always on full brightness and the brightness key combinations no longer work (nor do any of the Windows 10 software brightness controls). The brightness adjustment keys work perfectly in Linux (Ubuntu 16.04), and they work if I go in to the BIOS. The monitor is showing up in the Device Manager as "Generic PnP Monitor". Any idea how to get brightness working in Windows 10 with the LGD03FF panel?

Answer:Brightness not adjustable on ThinkPad T450 after changing screen (to LGD03FF)

unless you have a panel with an fru number corresponding to t450, the eeid (configuration chip on the panel) won't have the correct info to allow brightness control.

I recently upgraded my W700 to a clean Win7 Pro x64 install, downloaded the latest Win7 drivers from the Lenovo website, and did a manual install of all of them. Mostly there were no problems, however the OSD for mute, volume up/down, and brightness did not work. Here is the page for the Hotkey Features Integration package, which contains the OSD program: Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bi... The problem appears to be a bug in latest version of the OSD program, for the W700. I collected data on the various versions of the OSD utility; see below (I have used the overall package version as a reference, although the OSD program itself has a different version). Here is the fix: 1) Install the latest Hotkey Features Integration package. This gets the latest other packages, plus a broken version of OSD.2) Manually uninstall the OSD program (in Control Panel:Uninstall); reboot.3) Download and install the Hotkey Features Integration package version 3.85.0000. This is last version which works fully with the W700. Run the package installer, the run the installer itself. Make sure that only the OSD component is selected; run setup; reboot. That should fix it. It appears that the bug also exists in Win XP. Here is the info I have on the various versions: 3.33.0002 - OSD Works with W7003.81.0100 - OSD Works with W7003.84.2000 - OSD Works with W7003.85.0000 - OSD Works with W700 <&l... I have a ThinkPad X240 which came with a 1366x768 TN panel, I hated it and so after a while I upgraded it to an IPS 1080p display. It works great and looks fantastic except it's stuck on max brightness inside of Windows 8.1. I cannot change the brightness inside of Intel HD graphics settings or inside of programs like Display Tuner. It doesn't work in Windows 10 either. The weird thing is, I can change the brightness just fine inside of Ubuntu. I've tried uninstalling the Intel HD drivers and reinstalling them, I've tried switching the drivers to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, and none has worked. I feel like I've installed every single version of Intel's Graphics Drivers and that I've done everything and it still won't change the bloody brightness. NOTHING has worked except to just use Ubuntu, which is not an adequate solution. I've even gone as far as to update my BIOS and reset it to defaults, I've even pulled the CMOS battery. I've tried the version of the Intel HD driver from Lenovo for the X240 and I've installed the monitor.ini files. I've also just learned that during the Windows Boot Logo, the FN keys WILL change the brightness, but as soon as Windows is done booting, it stops working. This, coupled with the fact that brightness control works in Ubuntu means that this must be something related to Windows right? Brightness control works in BIOS. I've even gone so far as to try and change the brightness through CMD using powercfg accordin... Hi, I just got a thinkpad edge e420 and I have noticed a high frequency/high pitch noise as well as a whirring sort of noise (sometimes, might just be hard drive tho). It is quite soft and I can only really hear it when I am in my bed at night with the laptop. It can get quite annoying. I have heard of similar problems like this when I did a search but no clear solution.  Where exactly is the noise coming from?Is there a solution? Is this normal for all e420 or is it just a very common problem that may require warranty service?

My screen brightness using FN+F11/F12 and also in the advanced power settings slider won't adjust the screen to anything other than brightness and minimum or brightness to 100% when I move the slider.  It shows the percentage moving up and down, but the screen stays 100% until I'm on the lowest setting,  then it goes right to minimum.  I received a bunch of Lenovo updates on the first Wednesday of this month and I've had several issues since then, I tried reverting back to previous drivers, but it made no difference, so I'm back on the latest drivers.

Additional to my other issue with the display brightness I've got also this question: In battery mode it seems that the display brightness is automaticly adjusted by the lightness of the screen content. For exampe if I start a program with a dark background the display becomes a little bit darker. In contrast, a brighter background makes the screen a little brighter. It isn't that strong like a tap on F7 or F8 - just a little bit. Of course it's a nice feature. But for me who uses a lot of applications at the same time it is a bit annoying. Can someone give me a hint where I can turn that feature off? Didn't find anything in the energy settings. Thomas

I want to purchase a really good LCD monitor (not too expensive) and i think i found a pretty good one.. but one question..

for brightness which is better

250cd/m2 or 500cd/m2.. what does that mean by the way.

these are the ones im looking at

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...d=&newdeptid=1

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...d=&newdeptid=1

and also.. what effects more.. response time/ contrast ratio/ or brightness?

and im not really a gamer.

Answer:Brightness high or low.

500 cd/m2 is better I dont know what it stands for but I do know that bigger is brighter in this aspect. Also brighter LCD's have longer lives, after about 50,000 hours your LCD hits half life meaning it's only half as bright. If your not playing for games I'd focus on resolution, bigger is better. Other aspects are going to be relativly standard. Gamers tend to look at the responce time. For every day use it's not going to make a difference 25ms is good all round. I've never heard of anybody going on contrast ratio for an lcd.

Hi: Windows 8.1 and 10 have this adaptive brightness setting in the advanced power options menu. That is probably what is making your display's brightness go bright and dim automatically. This link will show you where the setting is and you can turn it off from its default of on. http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-disable-auto-or-adaptive-screen-brightness-in-windows-10/

Answer:Thinkpad T43 lcd brightness

The CCFL  (backlight) in your LCD needs to be replaced for the brightness to be improved.

Swapping it is not an easy task and I'd highly recommend replacing the entire screen or LCD assembly instead.

Good luck.

Hello, Currently I have an R61 Thinkpad Laptop.  I used to own a R51 laptop and I remember using the old version of ThinkVantage which used to be called AccessIBM.  With AccessIBM I remember there used to be a setting which I could control the brightness of the LCD, which I cannot seem to find in the new version of ThinkVantage for my R61.  For example, if I plug in my laptop my screen will become brighter (even higher than pressing Fn+Home).  I know that the reason why it's lower when it's using battery power is to save battery life. I'm trying to find out where this setting is so I can make it brighter when I'm using battery and trying to read documents. Can somebody help? Thanks,bahlv2002

Answer:Thinkpad R61 LCD Brightness

You have to go into BIOS (press F1 while booting), then Configurationand into Display, set the brightness to "high", press F10 to save and exit. This will keep your LCD at maximum brightness even when running on battery. Hope this helps.

You must use the nvidia drivers from the lenovo website. Unfortunately lenovo does not update the drivers, so you can either choose to have the latest features or the ability to change your brightness.

I just bought a refurbished thinkpad t61 and am enjoying it so far. Only problem is whenever I adjust the brightness it will always revert back to the highest setting whenever it reboots. I've tried adjusting the brightness in the power plan settings and saving it but it will always revert back to the default setting whenever I boot it up again. Is there anyway to fix this??

Hey there pszet0,

I found another thread with a similar issue to your own. His solution was to update four specific drivers, and the machine then started to save the power plan settings. Here is a link to the driver page and a list of driver's that he referenced. As always, ensure you back up before starting on this path. This may be path you can take to finding resolution.

Start here as I believe these will be more likely involved:
Power Management Driver
Your Applicable Display Driver

And then these:
HotKey Features Integration Driver
System Interface Driver

On my IBM Thinkpad T43, the brightness controls no longer work. Pressing Fn+Home/End is supposed to lower/raise the setting, and it used to, but no longer does. It's also supposed to lower or raise the brightness depending on what power it is running on, but no longer does that, either.

I tried restoring to my original XP image, where it worked fine, but it still does nothing. Given that it used to work anywhere (BIOS, etc) I'm beginning to think it has nothing to do with XP's setup, but I can't seem to find a BIOS setting that makes a difference, either.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Joe

Hello everyone, got my y510p a few weeks ago. Sadly I noticed a high frequent sound coming from the area, where the power supply is located. I tested many things and found out that it has to do with how far up or down you put the display brightness. There is a diffenrent sound with every setting. As I did some research I read that it could have to do with the voltage regulator. The only way I can get rid of the sound is turning the display off or setting it to maximum brightness (and additional the integrated gpu to maximum performance).Did someone else notice that problem? What can I do? All the best!

Hi folks - This is my first Lenovo forum submission and I will do my best to describe the problem with my laptops' video/display. I'm all ears for your suggestions. *Issue* The display would occassionally dip down in brightness/contrast then change up to a very HIGH contrast level on its own. The desktop icons, background image & browser images become un-sightly bright BEYOND your normal Lenovo Power Manager settings. All the white hues turn even brighter, and some hues are NOT viewable at all on certain backdrops. Usually, it resolves itself after several minutes. Then it's business as usual. I do not believe it has anything to do with the Power Manager settings (e.g. Idle Time, brightness control, Battery vs AC power, etc.). It simply occurs on it's own then disappears. A reboot can help and so does closing the lid and re-logging into Windows. But who wants to practice that technique after paying over $1600 for a professional grade business laptop? I found only ONE forum message that came close to reporting the problem, found in the body of a message and NOT as a subject (SEARCH:  "screen image fades as if you lose contrast") Frequency ? - Atleast 4 times a month for the past 3-4 months since my purchase in summer 2010. OS: Windows 7 (64 bit)CPU: i5-540M 2.53GHZRAM: 4 GBLaptop model: T-510Laptop Product ID: 4313CTOGraphics: 15.6 HD+Battery: 6-cell Purchase date: summer 2010

After updating my Thinkpad T540p, I cannot adjust the brightness in anyway. This is a problem because the screen is too birght and eats up battery. It appears the only way to adjust the brightness is to use Intel HD Graphics, which isn't so convenient. Fn keys don't work.changing the brightness on the Power Manager settings doesn't work. There is no brightness option on Windows Power Manager. help. I have Intel HD Graphics 4600 10.18.10.3960I have Lenovo Power Manager 6.66.3 Edit: In fact, I think it's posisble that Power Manager to just outright no longer works.

Hi! I have a Thinkpadx250 running Windows 8 and I've noticed that when I switch tabs within the browser, or even change programs, or minimise things to the desktop, the brightness changes. Its not automatically, it comes after a few seconds and pulses, almost, darkening or brightening each post. Now, I've been in the power settings and I have disabled "Adaptive Brightness" all across the board. I've also turned off Display Power Saving Technology in the Intel Graphics Control Panel, however, this problem persists while plugged in, and there's no option to change it while plugged in. I also do not have the Advanced options in the Intel Graphics Control Panel, as I have found that solution already, and it is unavailable to me. I'd really like to get this resolved as honestly, it gives me a bit of a headache,

My new lenovo g505s is just 5 days old. It came with free dos and so I did a clean install of windows 7 professional. While everything works well including most function keys, the brightnes keys f11 and f12 can only alternate the brightness level from min to max.. the on screen brightnes indicator does not always move in accordance with the keys as well. There seems to be similar problems with other people who have bought this model as evident on your lenovo site. Is this a hardware problem or is it software. Do I need to switch to windows 8? All drivers are up to date and have been downloaded from the lenovo support site. Please let me know as soon as possible what the fix would be.thanks

Answer:How to turn up brightness in ubuntu of Thinkpad sl500??

On Ubuntu your brightness setting will be reversed (at least they were for me and many in the ubuntu forums). So setting it to the darkest setting should make it the brightest. Besides that, Commen Consensus is, that the SL-Series is unusable for Ubuntu as the thinkpad specific drivers wont work (due to SL being ideapads from the hardware. At least that is what I read)

Hi ! First of all, sorry if I make some mistakes, I'm a french speaker  I own a Lenovo for some month now, and I'm completly satisfied with this computer. In Januar, the mainboard burned for a reason that I can't explain. New problems appeared directly after the reparation. Two days ago, I decided tocompletly reinstall Windows 7, after deleting all the memory of the SSD. All functions very well, apart one small thing : the brightness control (fn+Home/End) does not work well. Actually, it does like this : Increment : 0-4-7-9-10-11-12-13-14-15Decrement : 15-14-13-12-11-10-9-8-6-3-0 It is not a real problem in itself, but it is quite annoying when you want to adjust the brightness confortably... Thanks !

Answer:[Thinkpad T410s] - Problem with brightness control

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Did it use to work without irregular increments before? If so, then verify whether all drivers are installed from lenovo, for instance video, Power Manager/Management, Hotkey Features etc, and not through Windows Update:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/migr-74582.html

Run TVSU alternatively:-http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-73695

I have seen it mentioned by another user in L series and Value line board, my guess is that lenovo has changed something for new systems because my T400's on-screen display works fine and doesn't have this behavior.

Hope this helps.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga Brightness turn off backlight

Usually Intel graphics drivers don't have "backlight off" as the lowest setting, so in principle, this was a 'bug' that was 'fixed'.You could roll back your graphics driver and see if it brings back this functionality. I'd just pin something like LCDoff to the taskbar though.

When I'm watching any sort of video on my laptop, whether it is Netflix, YouTube, or something on VLC, I have noticed a slight change in the coloring and brightness of the video, usually when there are subtitles, annotations, or even when I mouse over the screen. Does anyone else have a solution? I can't stand to watch videos like this and this laptop is brand new. I've included pictures of the difference in coloring for reference. The first photo is normal and the second picture is the color change when I mouse over the screen. ThinkPad T61 (7665-11U) display problem. The display always appears after boot. However, occationally the display suffers either of two problems, seemingly with no cause: 1) "flutter"-- where bightness quickly cycles, alternates from side-to-side; or,2) it will go dark--the image is barely visible and the laptop responds to input (mouse, keyboard, etc). Either problem is intermittant. The display works normally otherwise. The fan is operational and the laptop does not run "hot". In fact, either problem cannot be induced by:-  open/closing the display, or pivoting hte hinges;-  gentle flexing of the laptop case;-  pressure on the keyboard and palm rests.. This is a hardware problem--not a software problem. I opened the laptop and inspected relevent ribbon connections, which appeared normal. A keyword search of this forum and others reveals all variety of display issues afflicting ThinkPad laptops, but I find no anecdotes identical to mine. Anyone experience either or both of these problems--and successfully identy their cause and repair them?

Welcome to the forum!

The only foolproof way of testing the machine in question would be with another complete, *known good* LCD assembly. That would point to either a screen or graphics card deficiency...

My bet would be along the lines of a graphics card going haywire once the machine warms up, but it's really difficult to say from a distance...

Good luck.

Hi Dimm0k,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with Display brightness on your ThinkPad X240.

How do you check if the brightness key (F5/F6) is working or not, because to use that key you have to simultaneously press Fn+F5/Fn+F6, then to if it is not working then check it in BIOS mode once.

Uninstall the current graphic driver from Control panel ? program & feature option and update all the drivers and application from thinkvantage system update utility.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

After reloading the pc i Didn't update power manager but updated the hotkey on screen display features with the system update from thinkvantage and now im almost back to square one, now I don't want to update my power manager. The only possible way I can get the brightness to go slightly lower is to activate battery stretch. Is there a bug fix for this from lenovo because i've looked and i only see bug fixes for the power manager, however they are old and don't do anything for my system (and i actually liked the new power manager features)

My 2 month old Thinkpad L512 display doesn't reach full brightness, except for a few seconds after bootup. Then it dims down to maybe 8 or so on a scale of 1-10. Which is often good indoors, but in a bright situation, I could use the extra screen brightness. The screen correctly dims significantly (to maybe 2 or so on a scale of 1-10) after siting idle for a few minutes, as specified in the Power settings. But when it recovers, it is at full brightness for 10 seconds or so, then dims back down to 8 and stays there until I repeat the cycle. I have poked around in the Display and Power settings, and the display is set to 100% there. Any ideas? Thanks! David

Answer:Thinkpad L512 display doesn't reach full brightness

right click the desktop select personalize then select display then select adjust brightness then on the right side select change plan settings under plugged in change to never & save changes

Answer:ThinkPad E535 win7 fresh install NO brightness control

System:Thinkpad Edge e535AMD A6-4400mWIndows 7 Pro I'm having a similar problem.  I haven't reinstalled windows, but lost my brightness controls after the first shutdown.  Oddly, when plugged in to an AC adapter, the screen dimmed to the lowest setting; when unplugged and running on battery, it went to max brightness.  In both cases it's unadjustable. Tried: control panel > hardware and sound > power options > change plans settings...there is a slider to adjust brightness. No effect. Clicked  'advanced plan settings' button on this page, then display, then screen brightness.  tried higher and lower settings. No effect. any help is appreciated.  If i find a solution I will post it here

My workplace has puchased 100 T540P laptops and I'm installing Win 8.1 Ent.It features an intel 4600 HD graphics. When I press the brightness hotkey to dim the screen the screen turns off. If I press - four times to dim I need to press + four times to get the screen back on. I've checked for solutions but none have solved this problem. If I delete the driver it automatically reinstalls!!! Any ideas?

Hi, Does anyone know how I can change the default brightness to maximum so that in BIOS and at boot time I can see the display while I am in a room with lots of natural light? It bother me a lot as while I boot or enter in BIOS I can't increase the brightness from keyboard till the OS software drivers are not loaded.   Please let me know. Thank you,C.

Answer:X300 ThinkPad change default BIOS brightness level

Welcome to the forum! Have you tried adjusting your display settings in BIOS, should be under "configuration">"display" and then "brightness"... set it to "high", press F10 to save and exit. Then you can decrease it when running the OS if you need to. BTW, your battery life will be affected by this. Hope this helps.

Hello. My device is Lenovo Thinkpad P40 Yoga (WQHD-version, Windows 10 Pro on build 16299.192). A couple of days ago System Update 5 notified me about a pending BIOS update. I then installed LENOVO R05ET75W (1.53), 2017-12-20 and rebooted. However, some time after that I started noticing that whenever you switch between full-screen applications from, let's say, the one that uses a dark background (for example: MyTube from Microsoft Store for W10) to a browser window which has white background the screen changes brightness gradually within the next two seconds, as if it has been dimmed upon displaying darker colors. This is extremely irritating to the eyes, as you can literally see the brightness getting increased in a few short jumps and this was not the case prior to that BIOS update if I am not mistaken. The actual brightness slider remains the same! It's just the additional effect of switching from dark to bright. I haven't updated anything else besides BIOS in the last two weeks and first noticed this about a day ago. I think the BIOS update came two days ago - unfortunately it does not show up in Installed Updates history (as the BIOS update opened a separate process and did not close the System Update window prior to the reboot), so I can't say for sure, but other than that the latest update I installed was on December 30th and I haven't been experiencing the issue I described above up until recently. The automatic brightness is turned off ... The pm-driver seems not to work (-> WINDWOS XP). CPU frequency is always at 1,9GHz (2,5 GHz) and energie profiles which are set in (lenovo) energie manager have no effect. In power-on-mode display is ok, but in battery mode its very dark (no effect with f6/f7 without fn). How can i increase display brightness in battery mode? Is there a registration key i could change? Or tool? Or newer drivers? (I have solved the CPU frequency problem with the tool k10stat.)

Hi Wale3D_ArshaD,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

We understood that you are facing the issue with On Screen Display on your ThinkPad Edge 15.

To resolve this issue you have to install hot key features application.
Please click here to download the application and run the setup.

Note: Make sure Display driver is installed on your system, because hot key feature application requires Display drivers to work on the brightness function keys.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Hi guys.  I have an Acer Aspire One D257 netbook that's been upgraded to 2gb of ram and a 9-cell battery.I've always been dual-booting 'windows 7 starter x32' (same installation since I got the netbook), and Linux Mint, its been this way for a year and it's been working just fine.  Brightness control seen in both windows and Linux, brightness shortcut (FN+left/right) has also been working in both windows and Linux.Well recently, my screen cracked and I brought my laptop over to a laptop hardware repair store, and they have replaced the screen on my unit.  When I got the laptop back, I immediately noticed two side effects.--- The laptop screen's brightness is stuck at 100% power while it's running on AC power (when the laptop is powered off, the screen stays on at full power, showing a white screen)  This doesn't bother me as much, and I doubt this is a software issue.---  Whenever I boot into my windows, I don't have control over the brightness.  Windows doesn't have the brightness sliders, and the FN shortcuts doesn't change the brightness either.  However when I am in the BIOS, the FN shortcuts allow me to adjust the brightness.  When I'm in my Linux, the FN brightness shortcuts work, and the brightness slider is shown and works. So I'm focusing on the issue #2.  In the case of that issue, I immediately think of it being a driver issue, meaning I should re-install th... Answer:Netbook screen brightness control stopped working since screen replacement

This driver is likely part of a utility pack for the system, which should also be in the listing of available downloads from Acer.My Toshiba Netbook has the Windows control sliders greyed out and I found that I had to adjust this using the Toshiba Utility instead which gave options for screen brightness under different battery life % and when plugged into wall etc.My guess is that your Acer has a similar tool that has these features and that is why you cant just adjust it from Windows display interface options. The display driver alone will not contain this tool. The strange thing is that, how did this tool get disabled by the  cracked screen and screen replacement. This would be something intentional. Have you contacted the place that serviced your computer to see what they have to say about this issue? Maybe they can fix this for you since they may have disabled it etc.

Hello,

My laptop: Dell Latitude E5550 - 15.6" FHD - Core i5 5300U - Intel HD Graphics 5500 - Windows 7 Pro 64-bit - 8 GB RAM - 500 GB HDD.

Does anybody know what drivers/software is responsible for displaying On Screen Volume and Screen Brightness Indicator (while pressing Fn+F2,F3,...) ?

What I've found so far that the Dell QuickSet may does the work (link to this solution: No Level Indicator When Using Keyboard Audio Volume Controls), but I couldn't find a compatible version of this soft with Dell Latitude E5550.

Some features of the power manager are not working after a bios update (5.90).
The screen's brightness can't be changed in the power manager, nor the menu system at the top. In the power manager, the slider can be moved, but the brightness is not adjusted. Toshiba's menu system seems to crash upon trying to change the brightness with F6-F7 and the slider won't move.

Furthermore, the screen does not turn off after the set amount of minutes in the power manager.

What's going on? How can this be fixed?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite A100-812: Screen brightness not working & screen turns off after some time

Hi

Some question; why you have updated the BIOS??
Are you sure you have used the right BIOS???

In my opinion you shouldn?t update anything if the notebook runs properly!!!!

However, try to access the BIOS, set the settings to the ?default? and save the settings before you exit the BIOS.
If it does not help I would recommend recover the notebook with the Toshiba recovery CD.

bye

This is really bothering me because I have a few applications which natively have very dark color pallets. When I have an open desktop, which is basically a white wallpaper with a logo on it and the task bar my laptop has the brightness that I want. But then if I bring Sublime Text up and maximize it, Sublime Text has a very dark themed GUI, my screen becomes darker on it's own and I can see thr transition. I have disabled adaptive brightness, I have disabled "Display Power Saving Technology" within the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel (and pretty much everything else in it as well), I have stopped the Adaptive Brightness sensor process, I have uninstalled anything that looked like bloatware or unnecessary-control-panel-ware, and I have updated to the most recent version of the Intel HD drivers. Nothing has resolved this. I'm starting to think the only way to solve this is a fresh OS install and even then I don't know if that will do it. I have literally spent hours trying to figure this out.

Answer:U510 Screen brightness changing based on color of the windows on the screen

After further investigation I don't think it's brightness that is actually being changed but some sort of Automatic Gamma/Hue/Color/Contrast filter that is being implemented and it is basically performing a histogram shrink, making my whites more and more grey depending on how much black is on my screen. I've disabled everything within the Intel HD control panel but I still can't figure out how to stop this from happening. I say this because I tried doing a windows 8 display calibration and when adjusting the Gamma I can move the slider and see a difference but within a second something has automatically adjusted the Gamma and the resulting image I am viewing is always the same. Update: I uninstalled the Intel 4000 drivers, my monitor is currently being run on Microsoft's Generic Display drivers and yet the problem still persists. At least that rules out the Intel drivers. So is it the monitor that was used in the construction of this laptop or another application that is causing me problems. Guess I'll try safe mode. Update 2: Safemode had the problem. Going to make a linux flash drive and try linux see if it does it. Update 3: Got ubuntu on a flash drive and I booted into it only to find that it does the same thing. So either windows and ubuntu are using the exact same drivers or this automatic color correction is built into the hardware and I have absolutely no way of shutting it off. Update 4: Checked inside the BIOS so see if there were any ... On a x201 with clean install of xp sp3 plus all Lenovo drivers upto date [today]; more precisely-thinkpad power management driver 1.64-on screen display 6.60.03-hotkey features patch build 01(00VU01WW) what happens:After having turned off the screen via the hotkey  [fn+f3], when I move the mouse to work again, if I press fn+home/end in order to change the brightness, the on screen pops up ordinarily and the number change as I continue to press the hotkeys but the brightness remains unmodified. However, the hotkey fn+home/end works fine before turning off the screen.

Answer:BUG: Turning off the screen [fn+f3] on x201 disable screen brightness hotkey [fn+home/end]

Hello Okle,

As I understand the display brightness cannot be modified.

Please update the Power Management software to 1.99o and Hotkey Features Integration version to 3.70.0003

If you have Intel HD Graphics then it has to be updated with the version 6.14.10.5384
After having all the updated driver the issue should get resolved.

If the issue persist then check you are running updated BIOS version 1.38

Best Regards,
Tanuj

Hello all- I updated the BIOS to 2.26 a while ago and ever since then there's no on-screen indication of caps lock on/off, screen brightness or volume when I change it. Since it seemed to be affected by BIOS, I updated again to 2.27 just now, but the problem persists. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help. EDIT: Just fixed my own problem. I needed to update the Hotkeys Feature Integration by downloading the utility thingy from this page. Probably wasn't a BIOS thing after all.

I re-installed Windows 7 64-bit on my Thinkpad X201 (3249-2EU).  Let me tell you it runs a million times faster now!  But the problem is I re-installed all drivers and software, and now I cannot adjust the screen brightness or get on-screen display to fully work. There seems to be some conflict between the Hotkey software and the Power Manager/Power Management Driver. After reading forum posts in the W500 and W520 section I tried troubleshooting using their suggestions.  To troubleshoot I tried this:I uninstalled (in order) the display drivers, Power Manager software, power management drivers. I uninstalled Hotkey features and Utility Patch software.  Then, I re-installed power management drivers and Power Manager software.  At this point, I can adjust the screen brightness but there is no on-screen display showing the brightness. After I install the Hotkey software, I can no longer adjust screen brightness.  However, volume changes are displayed on-screen. Any suggestions on how I can adjust screen brightness, see screen brightness on-screen and see volume controls on-screen all at the same time??? Also, not sure if this is a related issue, but the bluetooth indicator light is always on.  I have uninstalled the Bluetooth drivers and changed settings so that it will not accept incoming bluetooth devices.  What gives?

Answer:x201 can't adjust screen brightness or get on-screen display working

Another thing to add: Windows Update keeps trying to do an "important" (i.e., not optional) update to "Thinkpad PM Device" and it keeps failing.  I'm guessing the Power Management (PM) device drivers are corrupted and it won't update now.  I've uninstalled, then re-installed the drivers and this update keeps failing.
