Please help - Trackpoint not operational

Question: Please help - Trackpoint not operational

I have a T60 laptop (purchased Jun 2006) which works great except for the trackpoint. For the last few months, the trackpoint has not been working. The touchpad works. Here are the steps I took to troubleshoot - 1. Updated Ultra NAV driver and Utility software (the latest from lenovo website). Actually un-installed old version and re-installed new version2. Updated the BIOS to the newer version and ensured that Trackpoint/NAV is set to enabled in BIOS3. Replaced the keyboard (assumed it was a hardware problem). During replacement, I made sure it was properly seated to rule out a loose connection.4. The motherboard was replaced last year (due to a another problem) so I assume it may not be the source of problem I have searched this and other websites but am out of luck. Appreciate if any one can provide more leads/ideas to fix this. I am not sure if this is software related. Thanks

Preferred Solution: Please help - Trackpoint not operational

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

Hi, I wonder whether there is a way to enable press-to-click for the trackpoint on the new x1? In the respective settings there is no such options and I searched everywhere, somebody found it? Next question: In order to avoid the annoying noise of the clickpad everytime you press it, I would like to use the tap function of the touchpad while using the trackpoint to move the cursor. Unfortunately, tapping on the pad seems to be disabled during use of trackpoint - any smart hack to get this workig? Thanks to all,J

One of my two USB 3.0 ports is not functioning at all. This is really strange because the drivers were up on the device management list before I had done some work to remove a fan controller that came with my case.

Maybe I screwed up somewhere? Any suggestions?

Hi, I am new to this site so please bear with me if I am not providing the right information. Basically, my IE7 stopped working/opening and so I performed a system restore which essentially took the system back to IE6. However, there was another issue as it then installed IE8 and I think that made matters even worse. Bottom line is that I now have IE6 which opens but doesn't really work and also IE7 as well which does NOT open (I think IE8 has gone but cannot be sure). I am completely stuck. I have since been able to remove IE7 using revounistaller and IE6 seemes to work a little better. However, I need to update this up to at least IE7 but when it is reinstalled I have the same problem....it will not work. I had AVG 9.0 installed as well as ADAWARE but maybe something has got through? I have since loaded and run superantispyware which picked up a few tracking cookies etc but this still hasn't fixed the problem.
Here is my Hijackthis file in the hope that someone can help me. Thankyou. Steve

Answer:Operational problems with IE6 and IE7 on same PC

Hello Se. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me can help troubleshoot IE problems but you might like to try firefox. A lot of the demons out there target IE. Plus, firefox has a lot of very good features. My favorite is the moring coffee add on. If there are certain sites you go to each day, you simply put the addys into it and you can set it to open those sites in tabs each time you open firefox. The only time I have problems with firefox is when my computer has had a long day, too many files and tabs open. A couple of times I've went somewhere that caused it to freeze and when I shut down firefox it won't restart, telling me I already have it open when I don't. A reboot takes care of it though. I'm a super duper multitasker.

Good luck.

I have a HP Probook 4520s. It is still running on Windows 7 though I was suppose to upgrade to Windows 10.I have even tried to download the drivers but no luck.Does this mean that I need to get another wireless/bluetooth card because it does not work?

Answer:Bluetooth not operational

Hi: Not all 4520s notebooks came with built in bluetooth. Do you have the HP wireless assistant or HP connection manager software installed? If so, see if you can turn on the bluetooth device using that software. If you don't have either of those programs installed, install either one from your notebook's support page, use that to turn on the bluetooth, then if you plan on upgrading to W10, it is very important to leave the bluetooth on, uninstall the wireless assistant or connection manager program, restart the PC, verify the bluetooth is still working, and then you can upgrade to W10. If your notebook does not have bluetooth, the software will report that BT is not present. Neither of those two programs will work on W10.

Hello. After I woke my laptop from standby, I was presented with blank screen, although everything was working i.e drive activity, sounds heard, system running etc. After restarting, nothing changed as Windows booted up in the background while I was staring at blank display. Let me clarify that LCD itself worked because I could see flickering and set brightness levels.

After removing CMOS I resetted BIOS and noticed that video graphics options (nVidia Optimus) were missing and I could not default on integrated Intel video card which was shown in BIOS system information and worked because after saving changes, I get same blank screen.

I have managed to start BIOS hardware testing program after another CMOS reset and in video card test it showed running line as you can see here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Em9i7OOINBI

If anyone who is familiar with this BIOS testing program ever tested videocard like this and got different result, let me know. I am trying to understand if problem lies in some controller between integrated and discrete videocards or discrete videocard is dead. I could not notice any smell though.

Dell labs determined internal problem and wanted hefty price for replacing motherboard of my our of warranty laptop plus labor and sales tax. I don't know what to try now since I tried disabling various options in BIOS but nothing helped.

Hey all. I want to first say that if this question has already been answered, I am sorry for asking it again. I looked but couldn't find it. That said, here I go. So I woke up this morning and turned on my computer and it didn't start up, but it gave 4 beeps rising in tone. I looked up the codes and I think that it means that my "timer is not operational." My question is: can that be fixed? If it can, how do I go about it? And if it IS fried, how could it have happened so I don't have this problem again. OK, I realize that is 3 questions but all the same... Thanks for any help you can give.

Mike

I recently picked up (and after a bit of work, got rid of) the 'System AntiVirus 2008' trojan by using a version of malwarebytes. and my system is still getting a few trojan pop-ups. The two that I remember are:

Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Agent.bq
and
Trojan-Spy.Win32.KeyLogger.aa

I ran the Malwarebytes program several more times, and it kept finding the same trojans and adwares, and I still get the (supposed) firewall pop-ups asking me about these programs, and I'm only allowed to x out the window or click 'Enable Protection'.

I looked up some info and found the SDFix program, however, I can not get the program to work.
According to the site, I'm supposed to run the RunThis.bat, yet every time I try the Command Prompt Screen flickers on then off my screen. I have tried typing <%systemroot%\system32\cmd.exe /K %systemdrive%\SDFix\apps\FixPath.exe> in the cmd prompt, but I still can't get it to work. I've also checked and made sure that the %comspec% variable is set to <cmd.exe> <%SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe>, but its still not working.

Could this have anything to do with me running Windows XP 64-bit?

Answer:Sdfix Operational Errors

Some infections are difficult to remove completely because of their morphing characteristics which allows the malware to regenerate itself. Sometimes there is a hidden piece of malware which has not been detected that protects files (which have been detected) so they cannot be permanently deleted. Disinfection will probably require the use of more powerful tools than we recommend in this forum. Before that can be done you will need you to create and post a hijackthis log for further investigation. Please read the pinned topic titled "Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log". If you cannot complete a step, then skip it and continue with the next. In Step 9 there are instructions for downloading the HijackThis Installer and creating a log. This is an automatic setup version which will install the program in the proper location. When you have done that, post your log in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum, NOT here, for assistance by the HJT Team Experts. A member of the Team will walk you through, step by step, on how to clean your computer. If you post your log back in this thread, the response from the HJT Team will be delayed because your post will have to be moved. This means it will fall in line behind any others posted that same day. Start a new topic, give it a relevant title and post your log along with a brief description of your problem, a summary of any anti-malware tools you have used and a summary of any steps that you have performed on yo... My mobo specs are included in my profile. It's an Asus mobo. Just the other day I purchased a Seagate GoFlex Desk USB 3 External drive.

I have checked my settings in Device manager and it appears that I only have "high speed" performance.I have the latest NEC drivers from Asus. If I try to connect the drive to a USB 2 port, I get a message saying that the device would operate faster in Superspeed. I don't get such a balloon when I connect the drive to the blue USB3 port.

Any ideas on how to get my drive to run at USB3? I need to make an entire system backup and it's dang slow right now...averaging 35 MB/sec.

Answer:USB3 doesn't seem to be operational

Have you tried it out? Pick a file of known size. Copy it to the drive connected to USB 3.0. Time how long it takes. Connect the drive to a USB 2.0 port. Copy the same file to the drive and time it. The USB 3.0 should transfer faster. If your USB 3.0 ports are only running at 2.0 speeds, it seems that you should get the same balloon warning about conecting it to a faster port. If you used the driver from the DVD for your MB, see if there is an updated driver on Asus website. The drivers are located Here.

Hi, See if you can use windows system restore to return the machine to a point in time before the modded file was first loaded as follows. Boot the computer normally, log-in and let Windows load for a few minutes. Hold down the ctrl and alt keys and press delete. Select Task Manager. Click on File and select Run new task. Type rstrui - also enter a tick in the box for 'Create this task with administrative privileges' - and click Ok. When the system restore interface has loaded, pick a restore point at least 48 hours before the modded file was first loaded and then proceed with the system restore. Regards, DP-K

Hi all,
Bought a new WD Passport Essentials USB 3 drive and plugged it into my ASUS laptop, that has a USB 3 connection.

When I first connected the drive it went through a brief installation proceedure and for the driver it crossed the checklist box unlike the preceeding steps, whiich were ticked. So I presume it didn't install the software.

The drive shows up in the list and you can transfer data to and from it okay but it's slow.

I tried to install the driver using Win 7 from the path on the WD drive where the drivers are located and from the net and it tells me that the most up todate driver is installed.

Is there a way to determine in say Device Manager or such, whether the drive is connecting at USB 3 or USB 2.

I've tried to contact WD, but they seem to be closed for the holiday break. I've downloaded some of their test software, but essentially this only tells you the drive is functional and not what speed it's connecting at.

Can anyone help on this one as it's more than a little disappointing that it's not working as it should.

I recently upgraded to a new HP a6700f system with Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 installed. I have been having continuing problems with Firewire devices which were previously connected to my old system running XP SP2.

I have a four-bay enclosure that accepts IDE devices and converts to Firewire connections via a converter board. I had several extra Western Digital HDDs and a dvd drive installed in this enclosure and had no problems operating under Win XP Pro with SP2 for four years.

However, I have had problems getting this setup to work with Vista. My dvd drive is okay but my HDDs will not start. They are recognized in Device Manager but have the yellow dot with an ! symbol. If I right click on the drive listing in DM an select Properties, I get the message that Vista could not load the drivers properly. If I let Vista search for a solution, and click on View Details it comes back with the message that Vista loaded the driver properly but encountered a problem (which is not specified) when the driver software tried to run.

I have verified extensively that all my hardware is operating properly, all drivers are the latest up to date versions, all physical connections are secure, all cables are working. I have even modified the registry per Microsoft's Hotfixes and Techncial Support....that has solved the original problem with the dvd drive not working, but the HDDs still do not work under Firewire. Each of the drives will operate via USB, but I have $600 worth of Firewir... Read more

I use firewire/IEE 1394/i Link devices just fine on my vista x64 system

You need to access the event viewer and see exacty what error is ocurring.

You need to provide more info: What is the make and model of the IDE-Firewire external enclosure, and power supply.

What exactly are the WD drives you are trying to Install (type and model- i.e., PATA/SATA/AHCI/SCSI Raptor 3.5" 320GB)

Do you have a driver/software disk, or is it plug and play? (some hardware is not Vista compatable). If you have a disk, did you install it? (XP drivers will not work).

What are the drives formated to? NTFS/SIMPLE/BASIC? with assigned drive letters? These drives may have to be re-formated through Vista, under the manage Utility and re-assigned drive letters.

Do they show up under the manage Utility? like this?

I was browsing through my event viewer today and I came across this event. I've looked around for an answer, and while I did find some information, it really only confused me more. If anyone can tell me what this is (I'm just a newb) I would really appreciate it. Also, I'm confused by the reference to "HarddiskVolume2". I only have one SSD in this machine, and the only partitions are the OS and the "restore" created by MS during the installation.

Thanks,
Paige

G'Day All,
I have an fairly new ASUS laptop that has a USB 3 port onboard. In preparation for buying a WD passport USB 3 drive I decided to downloaded the latest USB 3 driver from the ASUS website. When I tried to install it the installation ceased and gave an error code.

I rang ASUS tech support, they gave me a link to another driver which I downloaded and the same problem occurred. After many follow up calls I came to the conclusion they were of no help at all, especially when they finally suggested formatting the hard drive and doing a fresh installation, which I wasn't prepared to do seeing everything else seemed to be humming along okay!

Okay so what's the problem I hear you ask:
Seeing this driver wouldn't install correctly, could the original USB3 driver have been corrupted, because when I connected my WD passport drive, I'm not convinced it's operating as a USB3 device and with my limited knowledge I have no way of telling if it is.

I've checked the BIOS and the only option for USB3 is to change from 2 switching modes, which I don't want to fiddle with yet until I hopefully hear from someone with some suggestions.

When I checked under the USB Heading in Device Manager there are USB 3 options listed along with a Composite driver. On checking the Drives heading in Device Manager for the WD passport drive, the driver shows the date of 2006 which is the same date as that used for the Composite USB.

This didn't seem right to me so I tried to do a driver update... Read more

Answer:How do you confirm USB3 is operational

Hi Ron,

This is an area I am also interested in pursuing ie. how much faster is USB3.0 v USB2.0. My understanding is it has to be enabled in the BIOS for some motheboards. Anyway....

This is perhaps a crude method, but should give you a definitive answer:

1. Copy a file of known size (preferbaly a large file) onto a classic USB2.0 device.
2. Copy the same file to your new USB3.0 device

and then compare the time it takes to do that.

Regards,
Golden

Here is what happens, Slimline Acer apears to be running fine. All programs and operating system apps are working great no p[roblems at all. The unit saves, opens fills like it should and does internet scearches nicely. So what is the problem? If you select on show down the Sleep option the unit appears to go into the Sleep mode. OK, now to wake it up press any key, right... well the power button on the unit turns from amber to blue like it should but the screen shows a slite flicker and then there is a very thin board around the screen. In my words I would say that the Desktop is there but clovered by a big Black image. You cannot see curser or anything. Press any button nothing shows up. hit the Flag/start key nothing. Press the power button once and the button turns amber like it should and the unit goes into power down and shut off. just like it should. Power it up and after a few the unit is up and run great again, no restart from incorrect show down nothing just a clean start up. Well there you go T Guys, this one got me... oneside on me said just restore the unit to factory setting and test again, but the problem has me puzeled and I would like to know, what the problem is. Sorry for the SP and and my fat fingure typing... Dennis

Answer:Sleep Mode to Operational

My Acer (different model, T180/2) will not respond from sleep mode unless a quick press of the power on/off is used.

After that thee are some odd events such as the cursor sumberging etc.

Some major PC manufacturers advise (quite correctly in my view) that sleep and hibernation modes are guaranteed for laptop hardware only.

While they MAY work on desktop hardware, lhe last 12 PC's have shown it's hit and miss, while my last 4 laptops have worked flawlessly.

When third parties are writing updated drivers for desktop hardware I suspect sleep mode is not a high consideration.

Having just put this to sleep to reprove it, scrolling is a snails pace, have to reboot now!

I have an A720 and recently installed Windows 10. Now neither the Optical Drive nor the SD reader work. The Optical Drive shows in Device Manager "This device is working properly." and there is no newer driver. However, in File Explorer the Optical Drive is not there. If I insert a DVD it whirls as if it is being read but nothing happens and it does not show in File Explorer. I do not use the optical drive often so not sure if this started with Windows 10 or predates to Windows 8.1 or 8.0. THANKS

Answer:A720 Windows 10 DVD not operational

Hi JHWa730 ,

If the DVD is deleted in device manager and same goes in the BIOS , some registry  may need to be change.

In this step it would be best to back up the registry first for safe keep and better yet create a restore point.
This can be done  by simply exporting it . Click here for the directions.

After the back up , you may now proceed on deleting filters from the registry.
The path would be :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Just right click and delete any entries on the right hand that say upper filters  / lower filers and restart .

Update us how things go.

Regards

I have a qosmio F50-133, in which, after a clean installation of licensed Windows 7 (Toshiba upgrade) I can?t use the built in infrared device.

I use Infrared communication with several devices, therefore this is a very important communication port.

Also, in the device settings folder (under computer/device settings) there?s nothing wrong, and there?s information, under human interface devices, of a correct installation of ?ENE CIR HID Receiver? and ?Microsoft ehome Infrared Transceiver?

Can you, please help me in resolving this issue!?

Answer:Qosmio F50-133, infrared not operational

As far as I know after finishing Toshiba upgrade you must insert composite CD again to install missing drivers.
On Toshiba download page I cannot see Infrared driver listed for Win7 so try to reinstall Vista version 2.5.0.0.

At various, regular intervals my model emits rather strange noises, when i first heard them i thought the unit was faulty.

Of course they are hard to describe but they are like a rattle, clickety type noise.

Sometimes they are rather pronounced click clacks, say three in fast succession.
They are loud, or loud enough to be very obvious and make you take notice.

There is also another type of noise like something stopping and starting of some mechanism, but should I hear it? The approximate location is centre left, It is not near the fan. Is this the HDD?

Are these noises normal?

My previous Toshiba laptop did not make these noises and this system is fine except for some post Win 8.1 update woes that are now fixed. Ta peeps.

Answer:Satellite P870 - Operational Noises

Of course nobody here can say for sure what it can be but after reading your posting I think it can be HDD. Some kind of clicking noise is typical for HDD. Normal? What to say?
On my notebook I can?t hear anything but on friends Satellite machine I could hear it. It is not loud but I can hear it when HDD LED is blinking (HDD is active).

What you can do is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for their opinion.
Other option is to check it with other HDD or better with SSD to check the difference.

My screen saver isn't coming on as normal... I've tried unplugging USB mouse in case the laser is keeping the screen awake but this makes no difference.

I've had a look at task manager but can't see anything obvious that would be causing this kind of behaviour (video playback software, full screen programs etc.)

Any ideas?
Thanks.

Answer:Screen Saver no longer operational? - Win 7 64

Hi tbcam, as you mentioned that you removed the USB mouse and checked the background S/W. Try removing all the peripherals one by one and check if the screensaver comes up.

Remove the mouse and keyboard. Uninstall the drivers for both. Plug them back in, let Windows install the driver and then check again for screensaver. If newer drivers are available for K/B and mouse install that and check.

Keep us posted.

Good Day,

Can anyone recommend an app to display operational link speed/duplex of a NIC? Specifically, this is for a Win2K machine with an Intel PRO/1000 CT. Problem is that the NIC is configured to use 100Mbps full duplex, and BIOS reports 100Mbps HALF duplex. The machine has slow read/write times over the network, and times out for other network operations. If you have anything that could help, I'm all ears!

Thanks,

Hello,

This is exactly what I'm facing. After soft reset of my Lumia 430 phone that runs Windows 8.1 I got a screen that I must update. I updated to the latest version and I'm still getting that screen. Because of this I cannot enter into the whatsapp itself, otherwise I could simply backup my chats and reinstall.

I have a strange printer issue.
I have a Synology NAS with an attached Konica-Minolta 2400w printer.
4 W7 x64 systems all networked to the printer with 64 bit driver.
Everything appeared to work fine from any program on any computer.
Today I tried to print a color document from Powerpoint. It would not print in color. As soon as I selected the printer, the document changed to B&W.
When I looked at the printer properties it was set to B&W.
When I tried to change it PP shut down.
I can print from PP to an Adobe PDF, then print to the printer and I get color. However, if I look at the properties in Adobe it shows B&W and if I change it Adobe shuts down.
Word will print a color doc but it also shows B&W and crashes if I change it.
If I connect the printer locally everything works as it should and all programs show properties with color selected and do not crash if I change it.

Any direction would be appreciated.
thx
bill

Answer:here is a printer operational problem challenge.........

Sounds like to me that the printer software has gotten corrupted. Any number of things could be the cause. Two things I would do; one - check your system for any malware, spyware....2 - uninstall printer and reinstall on all PC's on the network.

There are a couple of things about this system I can't find in the manual.
First, why two webcams?
Second, are the magnets on the back of the LCD there to hold the Active Pen or are they for the LCD screen?
Thanks..

Answer:XPS 13 9365 2in1, two operational questions

Like most phones and tablets, the front camera is for video conferencing - the rear is a higher-resolution webcam.
The magnets more likely secure the screen in tablet mode.

A question, if it can to assist someone. I have a PC with two operational systems (multiple operating systems) which are Windows XP professional and Windows XP 32-bit both. Looked to the Internet and I found the well known talk relating to the issue of Windows 7. Before i get FORMAT the disk because I cannot find any tip, whether someone knows how can i delete one of the two operating systems ?

Answer:[SOLVED] problem with two operational systems

Hi Achelius and Welcome to TSF,

What you need to do is the following:

Boot into the XP instance that you want to keep.
Go to Start > Run > Type "%windir%" without the quotes > Hit ENTER.
The computer will now show the WINDOWS FOLDER that you want to keep.

Delete the other Windows folder. Browser it from My Computer and go Shift + Delete on the folder.

Then go to:
Start > Run > type "msconfig" > Hit Enter.
Go to "BOOT.INI"-tab > Press "Check boot paths".
Windows will now discover a corrupt boot path and asking you if you want to delete it, press Yes.

Your other Windows XP instance should now have been removed. Reboot to confirm.

Don't forget to make a proper backup before doing this.

prewarning.... i probably should mention that this is from the wrong manual but the two monitors look identical.
The manual is for a xc-3725c and I have the 3730c.

Just so you can know where I'm coming from and what I'm trying to acomplish.
Got a mitubishi xc-3730c monitor that has an rgb connector. (details at bottom)
Want to use it to hook up with my xbox 360 vga adapter. And my windows pc if possible; which I think it can.(details at bottom)
So any of you who might have any expertise in this field might be able to give me a hand figuring out what I can and cannot do with this thing.

None of this gibberish means anything worth while to me

Oh and here's what it says in the manual...
RGB 2 input connector.
RGB 2 is for a personal computer use, especially RGB 2 can be compatible with IBM, PS/2, XGA, and MAC II by using MODE 2.
Two types of SYNC signals can be input to RGB 2. In case of 0.3V - SYNC level, connect with pin 4 and 5. In case of TTL level connect with pin 12 and 13.

Pinout for the RGB input is this one as stated by the manual for the xc-3725c

Righto, so... my PC's essentially falling apart around me, and it has been for some time. My issue is that I can't access the internet through my connection any more. As well as this, attempting to start the Firewall results in error 0x80070433, and attempting to check for updates results in a similar error.

Previously my computer contracted the CryptoLocker virus, which I halted before it did too much damage. I've used Malwarebytes and AVG Free to remove what I could find, and I'm fairly positive I'm clean now (though the scans came up with a LOT of hits). Though the computer SEEMS to run fine now, I'm still a little paranoid (nVidia Experience seems to constantly crash now etc).

Many would suggest to simply do a reinstall of Windows, but my computer is specifically set up for my graphics work and, except for being able to connect to the internet, works fine still.

To be more specific on the network issue, the network comes up and I'm able to connect to it, but it then lists itself as 'Unidentified network' with 'No internet access'. After the virus I found none of my networked computers worked with my router, though that was resolved through extra scans and resetting the router, yet my particular PC still doesn't work.

Where should I be looking from here? Is it possible the malware somehow damaged the system's services?

The computer I'm using is: Toshiba Satellite L755D-S5160 (laptop), I'm running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

Well, previously I was experiencing a HDD issue, and I had to replace it. I reinstalled Windows 7 shortly after this and it was speedy and all ready to go. However, I noticed a couple things...

First of all I did a system rating, and I noticed my graphics score was incredibly low, as seen here:

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps5c0bbcd5.jpg

So then I noticed that my computer wasn't supporting Aero like it did before the crash, which again was kind of strange. So then I followed the instructions of a buddy and I tested my video card, then I got the following messages:

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...pse6d925cf.png

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps2eb1129a.png

I'm also noticing that whenever I enter a browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox; everything appears rather large regardless of my resolution being the highest it possibly can, which is 1024x768. Does this relate to the graphics score being low?

Does this mean I also have to replace my graphic and/or video card, or do I need to do something else? Thank you for your support.

Answer:[SOLVED] Help getting fully operational after reinstall

In the Control Panel get to Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects. Run the troubleshooter. Once Aero is fixed we'll take a look at the rest.

Hello,

I have a Toshiba A75 that is 4 years old and has never been reformatted. About 2 years ago, it started having overheating problems, which I determined were partially related to the DVD drive.

(put in a disc, it spins, starts doing whatever it is supposed to do i.e play movie, install program, then computer overheats and turns off.)

I want to continue using it as a second computer that I can take with me to school. Believe it or not, it is much portable than my other laptop (dell inspiron 9100).

However, in order to use it (without many devices), I would like to reformat. I have a windows XP license to use, but I cannot use the CD to reformat it.
System restore only goes back 1 month for some reason -- I dont remember ever turning system restore off, but I dont like using system restore anyway.

USB devices also cause the laptop to overheat.
I tried what I thought was a foolproof method, but even it didnt work. I removed the hard drive and inserted it into a laptop that doesnt have any problems with the DVD drive (the dell I mentioned earlier), but when I tried to boot it up, i got a BSOD saying something...I dont recall exactly what that message was.

This laptop is usable, but there is so much little crap wrong with it that I would prefer to just start from scratch on it.

Is there any way to reset the factory defaults without using the DVD drive?

Thank you,

KH

You say you believe the problems stem from overheating. Have you ever taken a can of compressed air and blown out the vents?

I have established a "limited" account within my "XP Pro"system to increase security when I am connected to the Internet.

I was able to install operational programs to this account from Start>Programs and creating a desktop shortcut. However, there are a few programs that only exist at C: Programs. When I try to place some of them in operation by creating a DT shortcut, I receive an error message: (1) "Error saving program config file;" (2) "SQLITE_MISUSE [21]."

These programs continue to function under my "administrator" account.

How can I put them into operation in the "limited" account?

Many thanks, {redoak}

A few days ago, I was online using IE7 via wireless connection. Once I opened up another IE window, I received the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page." I then went to use Firefox all were OK, at that point I shut down my PC. I didn't think anything was wrong, until the next day, when I tried to go online again. Kept getting the "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page" message. I then followed Microsoft's articles in determining if its a 3rd party software conflict; virus; and the last resort resetting the IE settings - all were unsuccessful. The only thing I haven't tried is updating Java and reinstalling IE from CD. Any tips?

I have done a free upgrade from Windows 7 Premium to Windows 10 Home.

The upgrade appears to have worked fine.

However, one problem that I have is that when I right click the Windows button I get the Menu of Windows Apps but only the 'Run' and 'Search' are working, all others (Windows Explorer, Control Panel, Task Manager .......... up to .... Programs and Features) are non operational. Group1, Group2 and Group5 folders at C:\Users\Gugs\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows have the short cuts to the Windows apps and they all work fine when I click on them. Just incase the problem was with existing users prior to the upgrade, I created a new user after the upgrade, the same problem persists.

The other issue is the Restart option just hangs, the machine never restarts. Shutdown is fine.

Any help with these two issues will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks

Hi gugs and welcome to TenForums.

I would like you to try turning off Fast Startup, shut the computer down and then start it up again several times. (do NOT use RESTART)

Run sfc /scannow to make sure there are no integrity violations in your system files. If it finds and repairs some, or finds some but was unable to repair, please run it 3 or 4 times, until you get the "all clear".

Are your files all backed up? We may need to do a reset after the sfc /scannow procedure. Please make sure your system is "activated" before trying that.

Let us know how it goes. Thanks.

Hi

Some good news. I have the GPS fully working on the Toshiba Satellite Pro S300 with F3507g 3G card. I would think the steps to make it operational will work on any Toshiba laptop with the same card.

It requires new 3G drivers from Toshiba for the card which exposes the COM7 GPS port, some trickery with the COM port to get the card outputting location data (this would have been done by an application from Toshiba if they were supporting GPS), then it will work with any application that understands GPS.

I've used Earth Bridge to check it is working and this enables tracking on Google Earth, see [image here|http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/2262/earthbridgepd2.png] (note I've blanked out my exact location as it pinpoints my front door). This signal was achieved with the laptop by a window.

What I plan to do is make a small application to enable or disable the GPS receiver and will post up some instructions on how to set it all up, which is quite easy other than the Com port trickery which hopefully I can handle with a small free program.

Regards

Phil

Hi
Running windows 7 Home/Premium
I need to run a task when a fax is received successfully. This I believe would be windows log event 32008. The only fax events logged in event viewer are the admin events (eg failed faxes). How do I enable the windows fax sevice to log operational type events? - Or is it a question of configurating the event viewer to record these events?
Thanks in advance, Colin

hey last night I was watching a movie from some site and i got infected with a couple of viruses, namely omk.exe and ping.exe, anyways i believe they got on my system through javascript and began replicating and causing all sorts of malicious problems. I pretty much put that computer to sleep and started looking for answers on how to remove the viruses on my laptop(because it seemed like just by my very computer being on it was under all sorts of attacks like processes reopening, then opening other processes, chokeing the memory etc...) so anyways to jump ahead a little bit, i did a search in safe mode, got rid of some stuff, got back on normal windows, things are running fine w/o extra processes going nuts, but now i have some residual problems left beind...it seems that whenever i click common applications like internet explorer or video games i play, whose icons are on desktop, and a few start menu items (particularly system restore) it cant load the programs... i cant figure out why but whenever i try to open more sophisticated software it keeps asking me what program to open with (the choose from program/application window)

well anyways back to the direct topic/problem at hand, when i try to click on system restore i get window prompted asking "open with" program's to choose from the list of software applications i have. So anyways, no internet, no games, no system restore.... how on earth do i go about fixing that?

Answer:Virus messed up some some sensitive settings, need help getting system restore operational

You need to restore the file associations (http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_easy_file.htm), but if I were you I'd post in the Am I Infected forum on this site and make sure your system is malware free.

I have no Local Area Connections showing up in my Network Connections folder. I have an operational network connection via the ethernet port on my HP pavillion running Windows 7 Ultimate and the icon shows up in the status bar. I have no way of copying and modifying it.
My connections for my home group shows a blank although I am connected.

What has happened to the Local Area Connection icons, display data? More importantly how do I restore it?

I was trying to connect to a piece of equipment and discovered that I could not locate the local area connections to copy and create the required communication specifications.

Thanks
Steve

Could you post a screenshot of what is available in your network connections so that I can better identify your issue.

Could you go to device manager and then check if there are any red X's by any devices. If so please post back your results

To access device manager please open the attached folder and then open the file to view the steps.

Many Thanks,

Hi. I've searched and read until I'm cross-eyed and still don't feel I've found a definitive answer to this. For one thing, sometimes the threads are discussing removing the Windows 7 hidden System partition and sometimes the partition containing the OEM's factory restore wim. But, sometimes it seems various responders are referring to one or the other in the same thread. Also, it seems that it may make a difference as to the PC manufacturer.

So, I'm going to try to be specific as to what I'm after. I have Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on a Systemax box. My Disk Management partitions are as follows:
System: System, Active, Primary Partition
ImageBackup (D): Logical Drive
Windows (C): Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition

My questions are:
1) Does anyone see why I should not be able to remove the ImageBackup (D:) partition without causing any problems with Windows 7 normal operation.
2) What potential problem(s) does anyone see with removing that partition.
3) Should I not be able to make a copy of the drive prior to partition removal and, then, restore the partition and drive should I ever need it (which would only be in the event that I was passing the system onto someone else).

Keeping the following in mind:
I always have 2 complete backups of my entire system that can easily be restored.
I would rather shoot myself than restore my system to its original factory settings and redo the years of customization I've ... Read more

Answer:Removing factory restore image partition - any operational problems?

Since it sounds like you have plenty of system images, you can safely remove the recovery partition. I do that all the time when I transfer the OS from the original HDD to an SSD.

If you want to preserve it somehow, make an image of it - not just a copy.

PS: there can be cases when you cannot boot without the recovery partition - e.g. with a Dell system because Dell keeps the bootmgr on the recovery partition. But your bootmgr is on the system partition.

I noticed that event (100) is not always reported or not reported at all on several machines and I would like to understand how can I force reporting it.
In addition I would appreciate if you can explain regarding the keys under:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Diagnostics\Performance\Boot]

Things I've already tested on win7:
1. Verified that the diagnostic performance > operational log is enabled
2. Services: ?Diagnostic Policy Service? (auto) and ?Diagnostic service host? (manual) were running
3. Verified that GPO is not disabled for:

- Diagnostics\Windows Boot Performance Diagnostics Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Troubleshooting and Diagnostics\Diagnostics: Configuration scenario executing level

My understanding to this issue??event (100) is not always reported or not reported at all on several machines?
is that : this kind event log occurs when an time parameter during the boot process reaches a threshold in the registry key, then a warning, critical or error message will appear in the event viewer. If it doesn?t reach the threshold, then there will be
no report.

is expected). For NIC 2 when it goes to a disconnected state there is no event ID at all for the disconnection event. When it gets connected again there is an event ID 10000.
I have been looking all around and become rather frustrated with why my disconnection ins't listed in the event viewer on my server for NIC 2.

Hi,

I recently purchased Dell Inspiron 3542 (Nov14), and I'm getting a battery error when my house is a bit cold.

"Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to the operational temperature"

This message shows up at bios check and only option is for me to press f2 to enter bios, which doesn't give me any other option. This occurs very frequently, and I never saw such an issue with any other laptop I have owned.

To test, I removed the battery and ran the PC plugged in -- and it worked just fine.
Is there a way to prevent this message from showing up and allowing me to use the laptop?

Thank you.

Answer:Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to the operational temperature

Hi samuel120607,
I would suggest you to update the BIOS on the system. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the BIOS from BIOS section onto the system and install it.
http://dell.to/18r60nI

In addition, I would suggest that you run the diagnostics on the computer by following the steps mentioned in the video below and check if there is any issue with the hardware on your system.

Please let me know the findings.

Hey all,

Yesterday, I had to change password for my domain account in order to allow someone to RDP into my computer - I just didn't want him to have my password. After he finished the session, I changed the password back.

Now, I every time I try to open the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in (which previously opened up just fine) I get an error (see attachment).

I have a fair understanding that this is because my PC stored that changed password and now wouldn't use the one I changed the second time. I tried going into Credentials Manager and setting up correct credentials for the domain in general and for the DC in particular, to no avail.

Anyone has any idea why is this happening? Anyone?.. Someone?....

TIA

and this message is displayed when i go to BATTERY HEALTH option "Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to the operational temperature" my laptop is outta warranty...what should i do ? kindly help

Answer:Dell XPS 15z : "Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to the operational temperature"

hchentanshankar,
Welcome to the community.
I am sorry to read that you are having this trouble.  The battery failing is the most likely culprit but you should check to see if there are any problems with either the notebook or Ac adapter before rushing out and replacing the battery.
I would start by checking the bios, start the system tapping F2 to enter the bios, you can also tap F12 and choose bios from the menu.  Once in the bios look for the option for AC adapter warnings, if they are disabled enable them and save changes. If there is a problem with the adapter you should start getting errors about the adapter.
If the Adapter seems alright, disconnect the battery from the system and power down the notebook.  Wait an hour or so and then replace the battery and restart the system and see if you continue to get the message.   If you can run the notebook on battery only allow the battery to fully discharge and then charge it again and see if the problem returns.
I know that this may not be possible short of buying a new battery but if possible try a power adapter and battery and see if the problem continues.  This way you can find out if the problem follows the battery the ac adapter or the notebook.
Please let me know what you find out.

Hi I'm having a problem that I really can't seem to resolve: the image of my cursor freezes about 5 seconds after I log in, but the actual pointer still works i.e. I can still use the mouse, it's just that the cursor doesn't correspond to what I'm actually pointing at. At first this occurred randomly, sometimes after 25-30 mins of use, but now it does it every time, straight away.

One way I've found to get around it is to turn on mouse trails at the lowest setting, this lets me see the trails of the cursor (at the correct location), which at least lets me know what I'm clicking on.

I've tried:
Removing and reinstalling the drivers
Trying a different (ps/2) mouse

Question: Trackpoint

I T440s which I updated to Windows 10.  I updated the Lenovo drivers after updating and I have the latest Trackpaad/trackpoint drivers.  I want to use the track point but not the touchpad.  When I go into settings and choose either "Classic Trackpoint" or "Trackpoint Only", the buttons on the trackpad do not work.  Help, Please. Jim

Question: Trackpoint gone...

I did the usual "Windows update" this morning. After the installation had completed I noticed that my Trackpoint has "disappeared"! There is no reaction whatsoever when pressing the red dot and I can't control the mouse with it any more. I then checked in the control panel (no trace) and then had to learn, that it doesn't even exist in the device manager, either. I then rebooted, no change. I then even powered off and reboot from power off again, still no trackpoint! And after I downloaded the trackpoint driver from the Lenovo drivers download site and wanted to (re-)install the driver, I got an error message "this driver can not be installed on non-trackpoint systems". ?!? What? What the %@$@#*%?  Where has my trackpoint gone??? How come, that it has completely disappeared? How do I get this thing working again? Edited: I later noticed, that a part of that Windows Update apparently was a new "Wacom Two Finger Touch" driver. Might that have to do with my disappeared Trackpoint? Michael PS.: Boy - is this annoying to have to work without Trackpoint!

Answer:Trackpoint gone...

I just had to learn that there is a Fn-key (F8) that allows to enable/disable Trackpoint and Touchpad. I must have accidentally operated that button without noticing (in fact, I hadn't even known before that there IS such an option...).Its setting was on "Touchpad only". After re-enabling the trackpoint there everything came back to normal. Wheew. What a relieve! :-) And it (most probably) had nothing to do with the Windows Update - just an unlucky conincidence! Michael

Question: Trackpoint cap

I'm not sure if this is the place I'm supposed to post this. I absolutely hate the trackpoint when I type.  I type quite fast and I hit the trackpoint every once in a while -- but this is enough to really get on my nerves.  It's absolutely distracting.  Imagine typing out your thoughts then all of a sudden you hit the thing, get distracted, then irritated, and your thoughts gone.  ThinkPads are supposed to help you think.  The trackpoint unfortunately doesnt...  Are there a replacement tips that's depressed enough (and maybe colored black...) so that I dont hit it accidentally when I type?  Removing the tip works fine -- but it looks so ugly without it (makes it look like i'm using a broken equipment). Oh and I dont mind if the replacement cap will render the trackpoint unusable.  I just need it low enough so I dont accidentally hit it.

Answer:Trackpoint cap

these are the three different types of trackpoint caps. You might get lucky with the first type and there is no black trackpoint caps produced by Lenovo.

You can disable the trackpoint by pressing Fn + F8 in windows and then select trackpad only. You can also disable trackpoint from BIOS menu.

Does it work properly in a Linux live USB environment?Unlikely, but maybe the motherboard is damaged and breaking the TrackPoint module on the keyboard? Does the keyboard connector look damaged?

Now that the 5th gen Thinkpad is here, the decline of the trackpoint becomes ever clearer.  Frankly, most of us would not be buying Thinkpads if they didn't have the trackpoint.  That's the X1's main advantage.  But Lenovo keeps making it worse.  First, the trackpoint caps that will fit the gen 4 and 5 come in only one, unpopular, variant and you can't get the soft rim version.  But more importantly, Lenovo keeps on degrading the software control of the trackpoint.  It used to be that you could adjust the sensitivity of the trackpoint, making it more or less stiff.  Even the softest setting was inadequate but it was something.  In the 5gen there is no option to change the stiffness or responsiveness of the trackpoint's movements at all.  Lenovo: hear your customers!! Please make the trackpoint MORE not less adjustable.

Answer:trackpoint loose

When you say the TrackPoint is loose, are you refering to the red cap that covers it?  If so, it's probably just worn out and needs to be replaced.  You can order replacements from Lenovo.  The part number is 73P2698, and here in the US, they're $9.99.  Sometimes they're also available on eBay.

It is my first thinkpad and was wondering what older users would say for it...

Answer:Is trackpoint durable ?

Hi beickus,It is in my standpoint but you don't have to push it hard to test it's limits, play it gently and use soft hands to use it. A simple touch works best, you don't really have to rest your finger on it. Hope it helps.

After just a few months of usage, my W510's TrackPoint cap came loose. I ordered a three-part TrackPoint cap collection on eBay. Alas, the caps don't fit.

No surprise if you look at this photo of a non-W-series keyboard with the cap removed. The TrackPoint post in my W-series ThinkPad is yellow rather than black and significantly smaller:

Also, the W-series is prominently absent from the list of supported models in Lenovo's specs of the replacement caps.

Anyone know if replacement caps for the W-series are available?

Also, how would I attach the cap? Just pushing it back didn't really do it for my original cap, it kept coming loose.

Answer:Replacement TrackPoint cap?

some of the cap collection on ebay is fake. The W510 uses the same keyboard as mine T400s, and the real Lenovo trackpoint from T60 fits the T400s keyboard perfectly.

Answer:trackpoint did't work

Hi Oshri,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with track point not working in your Lenovo T410 laptop
The Fn-key (F8) allows the to enable/disable Trackpoint and Touchpad.

If the trackpoint is no longer working, this may be a good option to check before investigating device manager, updating / reinstalling trackpoint drivers or rebooting as discussed above.

Pressing Fn-F8 brings up the ultranav menu and allows the user to cycle through different trackpoint and touchpad configuration options.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

Question: R400 trackpoint

I have a Thinkpad R400 with Windows 7 installed. I have tried several times to activate the trackpoint with no success.I have checked in the bios screen which lists it as active (automatic) but when I check under mice in the control panel it only gives me the touch pad not the track point.I performed a driver update which gave me UntraNav but it has the track point greyed out. Any assistance in this would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:R400 trackpoint

Hi CountryLad, Have you installed Ultranav Utility and Ultranav Driver? Vince.

I'm using a Lenovo T61-8890 A24. It's a pretty old model but has been upgraded to be able to support Win 7 Ultimate 32bit.

I currently am facing a similar issue. In the BIOS, both my trackpoint and touchpad is detected and set to Automatic.
If I remove the entire palm rest and touchpad panel, I'm able to get the trackpoint to work, however once the touchpad is connected, the trackpoint just stops working.

I tried to enable it on the Ultranav program but it just doesn't work.

I tried the mouse properties and the trackpoint function is greyed out as shown below.

Link to image 1

When I went into the device manager, the trackpoint is not detected.

Link to image 2

I tried installing all versions of Ultranav, tried BIOS updates, tried cleaning the connectors, and still can't get the trackpoint to work together with the touchpad.

Any advice to this issue is greatly appreciated.

Answer:T61 - can't enable TrackPoint

Hi Dyna, Welcome to the forum. When you say Trackpoint doesn't work, do you mean:1. That trackpoint itself is not workingor 2. The left click, right click and scroll buttons associated with the trackpoint doesn't work. ========Also, you did not mention whether your trackpad works or not. Finally, what happens when you disable the trackpad in the BIOS menu? Does that affect your trackpoint and associated buttons' behaviours?

Hello I`ve had to clean up my Thinkpad t61p keyboard after an unfortunate incident involving a glass of soda, and now the trackpoint has gone crazy.I had to disable it because it was moving my cursor randomly to corners of the screen.I`ve also seem to have misplaced the little rubber bubble from my scroll button, but that`s not so important at the moment.Any ideas as to what might have gone wrong? thanks

Answer:Messed up my trackpoint

Nevermind, it`s back to normal.Any suggestions as to what I might be able to use as a replacement for the scroll rubber bubble ?

E420S, Cannot get either to work. Cannot enable trackpoint or touchpad in UltraNav.

Answer:Trackpoint and Touchpad

Hi, ezedoh

The first thing I would recommend is the removal of the UltraNav driver from the system. This is best accomplished by using an external mouse to navigate the system. To uninstall the UltraNav driver, open the Start menu and type Device Managerinto the Search box, and then press Enter. Once here, double click on Mouse and other pointing devices, and then right-click on the UltraNav device. Naviage to the Driver tab and select Uninstall... from the bottom of the window. Follow the prompts to uninstall and then restart when prompted by Windows. Windows should install a generic driver for controlling the mouse. This should reinstate the touchpad to working order. If not, then continue using an external mouse for now.

Once the UltraNav driver has been removed, I would recommend trying to use the standard Synaptics driver found here. Synaptics is the company that develops the UltraNav software, so there should be no loss of compatibility/features. I have witnessed several cases where this driver has helped others with mouse issues, so it may help yours as well.

Hope it helps,
Adam
