Preferred Solution: What speed/type processors can I use?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: What speed/type processors can I use?

any of these will work:T5600 (1.83 GHz), T7200 (2 GHz), T7400 (2.16 GHz), T7600 (2.33 GHz)they are all core 2 duo processors.

Hello, Nice to find these forums.  Hopefully some of you IBM/Lenovo Guru's or someone that also had the same question might see this and be able to help me out.I realize this is a pretty old system in technology terms.  My system came with an Intel Pentium 4 Northwood 2.8Ghz 533Mhz processor and I have no problem swapping out processors etc.  I have been here:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-51331#2and noted that the A50 - 8194 system shipped with as fast as Intel Pentium Northwood 3.2Ghz 512KB L2 Cache 800Mhz FSB, so i could just grab one of those for $28 bucks and be done & done.   HOWEVER, i was digging through the BIOS release notes (BTW i have the latest BIOS for the machine)http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-60538http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkcentre_bios/2ajy51usa.txt " ...Fixes the support for the 0F41 (Prescott E0-step) processor... Can processor speed be increased without changing or removing any harddware

Answer:Processors: Can speed be increased?

Depends on your specs and what you mean by increase.

Some processors are unlocked and can be over-clocked by increasing the processor frequency multiplier (which is multiples of the system bus frequency). This only effects the stability of the processor if clocked to high.

Many systems even if the processor is not unlocked, can still be overclocked by increasing the system bus frequency. Changing this frequency effects everything in the system, which can cause system instability with anything.
System builders will lock both system bus and frequency multiplier, by customizing the system BIOS. Limiting the BIOS is the number one reason, I do not like prebuilt systems.

Can anyone tell me what this means I am thinking of buying a new pc and am not confident enough to build it myself. Have been looking in the usual places that people who build there own rigs probably disapprove of, when am looking at a certain pc from dell it says this

The memory speed of 4 DIMMS configuration will be limited at 1066MHz with Athlon II X4 630 and Phenom II X4 820 processors. ...

If the memory works at 1300 Mhz and the Processor only supports 1066 Mhz what does that mean ?

Answer:AMD processors limited to 1066MHz memory speed?

AMD CPU's have the memory controller built into them. Faster memory will just have the speed of it set to what the memory controller can support.

So if the memory works at 1300Mhz, but the controller only supports 1066Mhz, then the 1300Mhz memory will just slow down to 1066Mhz.

But Dell only says that the speed of the memory will be limited on those CPU's only if all 4 ram slots are filled with memory. Unless you will be upgrading the memory in the system when you get it, you dont need to worry about it.

Hope this helps.

I can remember reading a post on here regarding the confusion with the new Intel Processors been on paper at least slower from a GHZ point of view than the older Pentium 4, but I cannot find the post refering to it.Could someone clarify why for example the average speed of the new range of Intel processors now is between 2-2.6 GHZ, where as a few years ago we had Pentium 4's with 3.4GHZ, on paper at least the new processors would appear from a GHZ point of view to be slower than the older 3.4GHZ Pentium 4 from a couple of years back.

Answer:New Intel Processors are lower speed than olderP4?

Clock rate is not speed of processing data.If say, a processor at 1GHz does four times as much with data in one cycle as a different processor at 3GHz - then the 1GHz processor is actually faster. So - the new designs are more efficient, basically.

Hello,I am thinking of buying the T460s with a base configuration and then upgrading the SSD myself.Question - If I choose to buy the 128GB SATA SSD, does this mean that the SSD slot can only have SATA M.2 SSD in it?Similarly, If I choose the 256GB PCI-NVMe, then the SSD slot can hold only NVMe M.2 SSDs in it? Is there even such a thing as a universal M.2 slot, that can take SATA OR NVMe SSD? Thank you very much.-D

Per https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t4... , I think taking the SATA route with an aftermarket PCIe NVMe should be fine, but I too would like confirmation from an authority here. That said, if Lenovo?s markup for storage wasn?t so obscene, this would be less of a concern.

this happens to me a lot, and it's pretty annoying; after my computer is on for a while, i notice that when i hold down a key when im typing, it slows the action down. for example, if i want to delete a sentence, usually i hold down the backspace key and the cursor zips across the screen deleting everything real quick. but the longer my computer is on, it gets slower and it takes like a second per word. same if im typing; if i hold down a key, it will get maybe 4 characters down in a second when it should knock out 10 in that time.

this isn't affecting the speed letters are typed as i hit the keys, only when i hold down the button. so is there something i hit on my keyboard unknowingly that bogs down the rate letters are typed, or is it something else?

Looking for opinions (pros and cons) of the two processors types and speeds.

Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 640 w/HT Technology (3.2GHz,800FSB)

Pentium® D Processor 820 with Dual Core Technology (2.80GHz, 800FSB)

Does the Dual Core provide any significant advantage even though running slower than the Hyper Threading processor. Will the Dual Core be better at multi tasking since it is a dual processor core.

In performance tests, which would yield better results.

Answer:Opinions on Processor type/speed

Some comparison performance tests of CPUs including the two you have earmarked above Chas http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html

My take on it, yes the Dual Core CPUs do have a distinct edge over their single core parents, and in the tests above at Toms do occupy the top slots in the multitasking tests, personally I dont see any Cons to a dual cpu, plus more software will be written to take advantage of the 2xcores.

My pref would be the 820.

Hoping someone can answer this.  We sell overstock new items (including computers).  We just received a shipment of HP EliteBook 820 G2 laptops (new & sealed).  Unfortunately, the outside of the box does not give me any information as to the processor type or speed other that an Intel Inside sticker on the outside of the box.  The product codes are P2C18UT#ABA,  P2C22UT#ABA.  Is there a way to tell by this code the processor type / speed / amt of ram on each of these?  I really do not want to have to crack the factory seal unless absolutely necessary.  Thanks in advance for any insight.

Answer:Can you tell the process type / speed by the model #?

Yeah here they were for sale on newegg and Walmart. I think you can assume the ones you have are the same specs: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6ZP3K33047 http://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-EliteBook-840-G2-Notebook-PC-12.5-Display-Intel-Core-i5-5200U-Processor... They have the same processor but the Walmart model has an SSD and a higher resolution screen.

Thanks,

Answer:checking processor type and speed

premsoman
Most of that info should be available on the screen at boot. If it goes by too fast to read, hit the pause/break key and it will stop untill you hit escape. If a splash screen is in your way try hitting escape then pause/break. Another option, get the exact model number and go to Dell's website to see what the system specs are supposed to be.

hi

processors have speeds like 2.7GHz and this actually a frequency at which it runs ..

frequency is cycles per second .... 2.7GHz = 2.7*1024*1024*1024 = 2,899,102,924.8 Hz i.e cycles per second or pulses per second .

i think 2,899,102,924.8 bits per second such processor is said to process .

on the other hand we have system type like 64-bit ... does that mean processor only processes 64 bits per second ? and how we differentiate both of these factors and distinguish clearly ?

Answer:system type and processor speed

It would be more accurate to think of it as the way the chip handles data and floating-point registers.

I sadly do not actually know the math. It does increase the rate at which data is processed.
It has more to do with the registers though. I'm not sure how it would fit into your equation exactly.

My IT guy was telling me that the type of file can affect download speeds across the network (LAN connection) to a local HD. Say if you have an image file vs. PDF vs whatever. I say hogwash. A 10-meg file, say, should be a 10-meg file no matter what. If there is any slight difference, then it would be minimal at best.

I was getting some problems with a large powerpoint file copying to my laptop from a server where my download speed started fine, then stalled and crept down to about 20 kb/sec. I tested the download several times and it would take MINUTES to copy sometimes and other times would even error out it was taking so long. Co-worker could download the exact same file in about 2-secs on his machine.

Answer:Does File Type affect copy speed?

In same cases, he is right, but in this specific case something else is going on. There was a nasty issue with windows 8 that caused this, but it has been patched.

Hello all, I just bought a 110-15ISK Type 80UD and it is not yet delivered; however, I would like to know if anyone can tell me the designated SATA speed for the 1TB mechanical hard drive because some literature states it is just SATA while other literature states it is SATA II. The reason I am asking is because I have seen many videos where individuals have chosen to install an SSD; however, I see no reason to do that if the speed is only going to be at standard SATA (150MB/s). However, if the 110-15ISK Type 80UD offers SATA II (300MB/s) or SATA III (600MB/s), then it might be wothwhile to go with an SSD. Thanks, newlaptop

Hello,
I have 2GB RAM on my Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. I would like to buy additional 2GB RAM making a total of 4GB. I know that 32bit Windows 7 will not detect 4GB of RAM so ill be installing 64Bit version. I have a AMD athlon x2 dual core 5000+ 64Bit processor at 2.60GHz. I just opened up my chases to find out what type of RAM I have and also did a "Crucial Scan" which tells me I have a DDR2 PC2-6400, DDR2 PC2-5300 type of memory. I read somewhere that I need same type of RAM for better performance. My RAM card's label says it is a 2GB 2Rx8 PC2-6400U-666.

I need to know if I should install the same PC2-6400U-666 RAM in another slot or I can even use PC2-5300? which one is better? My RAM card labels does not show the RAM speed.

Also the Crucial Scan says that I can install a maximum of 4GB RAM. But is it 4GB per slot of the manufacturers maximum is 4GB?

My Crucial Scan:
Edit:
You can get all information you want about your RAM with a little tool called CPUZ even without opening your CPU case,

Answer:Installing additional RAM - need to know speed, type and size.

If you want the best results, I would go in one of two ways. I'd either pull he existing chip out and buy the identical one....or just buy a new 2x2 GB kit. Either way, for best results and best chance of compatibility, you'll want identical chips.

Given the link, it means you have two slots in total, that can accept up to 2 GB per slot, for a total of 4 GB.

I have following add-ons installed for Tracking Protection in IE11. (Please see the image below.)

I have a question that do these multiple add-ons affect the speed and performance of IE in any way or they are here only for the good purpose and nothing bad.

I mean when we use adblock extension for Firefox/Chrome, it shows a impact on the browser's performance. Is it the same here for IE too?

Can I happily have these add-ons (as shown in image) in my IE? Please suggest.

I was aghast for reinstallations of Windows 8 because of reasons unknown which ran operating system into trouble.
Now I know why this happened, because I selected maximum number of processors shown in 'Msconfig', which really doesn't exists ('Msconfig' showed 4 processors for Intel Core i3210).
From next start Windows 8 ran into trouble and within a day or two of using this desktop stopped responding, happened for all operating systems where I selected maximum number of processors shown in 'Msconfig'.
Therefore do not select maximum number of processors from 'Msconfig'.

Why the strangeqe question?

you see I have a Dell XPS 15z laptop with a core i7 processor, 8 Giga RAM running Windows 7 Premium and I also have an HP desktop with a core two duo processor, 3 Gigs of ram running Windows 7 Professional but surprizingly the desktop runs faster than the laptop when I give them both tthe same task on Photoshop CS6 ( a processor heavy application). Answer:Are there any new processors that are faster than Core I7 processors

Does it use 100% cpu for a long time? (so cpu is the bottleneck)
Is it a multithreaded application, so are tasks split in many subtasks and use different cores?

You can get speed test, look on ur ISP site to see if they have one available or just search google and u should be able to find one. That will tell ur download speed. U can probably gets ones that test ur upload speed. Their should be a difference in all three, lol and btw i think its just two different types. Download speed is net speed(i think) and the other is upload speed. Download speed will be a lot faster in most cases. The semi-odd thing about it is #1-same type of popup on both ie & my Chrome browsers; #2- I hadn't downloaded/installed anything around then; #3 I havenot been able to find their source; #4- Have not found any scan (malwarebytes, Panda, pcpitstop, etc) that seems to locate it, nor does my Winpatrol. The popup windows vary in advertisers, but most frequent is for the game "Big Farm". They are always fullsized page & open in a new window (not just a new tab), without my regular menu/toolbar, etc on top. I did notice a little icon right before the url it shows at very top, clicked it & got a menu-thing showing the permissions of the settings, etc & I could click to view cookie data (in which I was thinking "yippee I got it", lol)... I can "remove" & "block", however each time I can make sure I do all of the however it doesn't seem to help because in a little bit "poof" it comes up just as before! Of course it can get irritating!
Now, as of 2days ago I've suddenly gotten a new & BIGGER annoyance... Quite often, especially when I open my browser & go to do anything (such as switch sites/pages, open history, etc), I get a blackish popup come down about 3/4 over my page, and has a video box (which seldom starts & if it does p... Hi all, I got today Lenovo S510 model: 10KW005NAX I want to get a cable or adapter to connect Displayport to HDMI 1080p LCD I have from before There seem to be passive and active converters, what I understood from online is that if I have DP++ PC I can get a passive converter or else I need an active converter. I don't know if cables can be active and passive too?For example: Amazon linkSo the description says source can be DP or DP++, so it has a chip inside it? so it's active? So... can anyone tell me what is my displayport type (Lenovo S510) ? and maybe shed some light on what I need to get clear picture to HDMI in? Appreciate your help

so, a few years back i read a magazine that said to change the type of computer in device manager to standard pc because it made the computer run a little better or faster.

so now i've got my laptop and i've noticed it getting slower and thought that i would do this... VERY BAD MOVE!!!

i can still boot windows and everything - it meant that i had to let the computer reinstall all of the drivers for my hardware - but i have noticed in the device manager now that there are two instances of 'standard pc', there is also a new section titled 'other devices' with about 15 devices that seem to have no driver for them - some mention 'ISA' so i am guessing that changing to standard pc means that windows thinks my laptop is now a desktop pc with ISA slots???

i find that when i put my laptop lid down the thing shuts down, when i press the power button it turns off straight away (doesn't even shut down!). i had had the laptop configured for ages to do nothing when i closed the lid and give me shut down options when i pressed the power button. i look in power options and i can only cinfigure the monitor screen and hard disk power off options - every other option is not available. when i do bring up the shut down options i can no longer choose standby.

i have also realised that i can not turn on my wireless connection - i've tried all sorts to get it to work with no avail! the laptop is an acer ferrari and when i call up the manager app... Read more

Hi!I was wondering if anyone could help me with this issue. My G580 is still inside the warranty and started showing this flickering lines and areas of the screen that are a complete mess. I am trying to request a service to get it fixed but I am asked for a machine type, model type, and serial number. I found the serial number but the form keeps complaining that it should be a maximum of 9 characters (and mine has 10). And for the machinge type and model type, I just can't find them. There's nothing on the sticker showing a model like it is shown in the help section. Can anyone help me please? Thank you!

Hi afm, welcome to the forums,

have you had a look under the battery?  Quite often the sticker detailing the information will be there, it can also be found on the box if you still have it or on the first screen after entering BIOS.

My main notebook is a T60 type 1951. The backlight (or the inverter) is faulty (the screen has a red hue, and if I operate it at anything higher than the lowest brightness setting, the backlight just cuts out), and I need to send the machine back for repair (thankfully it's still under warranty). I have a spare machine, a T60 type 2007, and I am wondering if I can just plug the hard drive from the faulty machine into the spare one without any risk of screwing anything up, or of anything not working. I've looked on the net to see if I could figure out what the difference is between the two types, but I've not had any success. The only apparent difference between the two is that the faulty machine has a DVD multi-recorder (Mat**bleep**a DVD-RAM UJ-842 according to the device manager), and the spare one a DVD/CDRW (Mat**bleep**a DVD/CDRW UJDA755 according to the device manager). So: is it safe for me to simply remove the hard drive from the faulty machine before returning it for repair and simply swapping it for the drive currently in the spare machine? Many thanks in anticipation!

Answer:Swapping hard drive from T60 type 1951 to T60 type 2007

The biggest difference between the two is the fact that 1951 has Intel integrated graphics, while 2007 has ATi dedicated GPU. You'll have to load the video drivers if you're intent on using this drive, but it shouldn't bluescreen on you. Apart from that-and possibly wireless if the cards are different-you should be OK. Hope this helps.

I set up an Outlook account on a new-to-me laptop. I had been unable to download email for several months, since I didn't have a computer. I had been saving the emails I wanted to keep and had planned on downloading them into my new computer. After setting up the account, it appeared the system automatically downloaded all of my email from the server. I know this is default behavior which I turn off. So I went through that process, double-checked to see that all the email was downloaded, and went out to my server.

I discovered that what I thought were copies of the emails were left on the servier. I didn't want that to happen. I dug around to find the location that I have used many times to do this, and couldn't remember or find the location to make this change. So I came to Seven Forums. I saw the step-by-step instructions...go to the account, select it, click change, click advanced and uncheck the box that says "Leave a copy of email on server". When I went to the advanced dialog box for changing accounts, I discovered there wasn't any such box. I dug around some more, decided to subscribe here and ask why mine was different.

In the mean time, since all the email was downloaded to my computer, I went back out to my server, deleted all the email, and purged the trash. Then I went back to my Oullook and discovered all the email that I had "downloaded" was gone. After digging some more and callling my ISP service desk, I discovered that ... Read more

Answer:Is default email account type deteremined by type of device?

Hello Hagridore and Welcome to Seven Forums!

No, I don't believe the problem is because it is a Laptop.
Email can be very confusing to setup with the different protocols such as POP3, IMAP, and MAPI.

Referring to "Outlook" can be confusing, as it can mean different things.
Outlook may mean the MS Office Outlook client email program, or an Outlook.com email address.
MS has created confusion here imho.
When you say "Outlook accounts" do you mean email accounts in the Outlook client program, or Outlook.com email address's, or both ?
What email client program are you using, such as MS Office Outlook, MS Windows Live Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird, ... ?
Also fwiw, for WEB (online) access, Hotmail accounts are being converted to the outlook "WEB format" now...just to make it more fun

From what I know, setting up an Outlook.com (or Hotmail) email address with IMAP does not work without a 3rd party paid solution.
MS uses their own proprietary MAPI protocol (or POP3) for hotmail/outlook email address's accessed in a client program.
If it is possible to use an Outlook(Hotmail) email account with IMAP in a client email program, I would like to know how!

When I delete a POP account (Windows Live Mail) I get a warning about messages that might be lost...
Did you get a warning message when you deleted the POP account?

edit:
I just looked at this again, and see it's in the Office forum.
So, can I assume you are using MS Office Outlook on all the PC's?
If so, w... Read more

Hi, I have pop up error message Unable to cast object of type 'System.Boolean' to type 'System.String'" comes up every time windows 7 started...
So I check the msconfig if some start up software has error but I couldn't find anything.
I unchecked all start up application and reboot it but still have error message.
So I go event viewer then I found the error happened in the same time I start up the windows 7 so this might be the one.
This is info for error I got.

Log Name:Application
Source WMI
Event ID 10
Level : error
Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

Is there any way to fix this error so that pop up error might stop??
Thank you!

When comparing speeds, remember to divide your speedtest result by 8. 0.89 mbps is around 101KBps.

Download speeds depend on many factors, inclduing the modem/router, traffic through your ISP at the time, and the type of download, just to name a couple.

What type of download is it? Are they torrents? These can often be slow.

Are downloads slow from everywhere?

You mentioned video buffering; Do you have downloads going at the same time that you are trying to view a video? Are there other people sharing your connection (eg other family members)?

You didn't say if you had tried rebooting the router/modem, or if you had been in contact with your ISP. These would be among the first things to try.

As you haven't stated what you have tried, I'm going to assume none of the following have been tried. Apologies if you have tried/tested the following.

If you plug a phone into the same wall socket at your modem do hear any noise/static or is is sound quality very poor or low... Read more

Question: 64 bit processors

i've been hearing lately that AMD is due to release a 64bit Athlon64(clawhammer) cpu in september/october/november. i also know that intel is launching a cpu on the prescott core. will the prescott cpu be 64 bit too? also how will the new 64 bit processors affect the computing world. i jus got a p4 2.4ghz C system and i hate to see it go totally obselete in a matter of months.

Answer:64 bit processors

relax - your shining new CPU won't become out of date the second 64-bit CPUs appear.

I should expect that 64-bit will primarily effect the server market mostly, and will only trickle down to desktop level after some time. Although there are some operating systems already available for these chips (windows 2000, linux, etc) there aren't a lot of apps yet. 64-bit will become the standard one day - thats for sure - but it will take quite some time.

The specs on my original processor according to the HP website is AMD Athlon II X2 240e 2.80 gHZ AM3. If I buy a replacement processor, as long as it's an AMD Athlon II X2 240e 2.80 gHZ AM3, am I ok? The serial number on the actual choices I have are a bit long such as AMD Athlon II x2 AD240EHDK23GQ, and AMD Athlon II CPU 240e AD240EHDK23GM, the last two letters in the part number being different. Does that matter?.....or will they both work, Thanks, Ed

BTW I can't see any writing on my original processor or I would have just matched it.

Question: 2 processors

Good morning everyone. I have been having a lot of programs with my windows xp computer, Runs really slow and it is driving me crazy. I read in here to update my drivers and programs and i have started doing that. The question I have is when in my device manager I clicked on processors and it seems like I have two of them in there. I was wondering if that might be what my problem is? They are both the same exact thing say the same thing on every tab? Also I have alot of stuff in my startup and get really frustasted when I don't know what they are. and if they are ok to stop. Is there a page I can go to where it will tell me what is safe to undo and what isnt? I keep getting a message from norton saying I am using all my computer up and not sure what that means either. One thing for sure is my computer crawls. I can deliver my email faster if i print it and run it to the neighbors house. Which is really bad. Considering I have cable internet. Hope you have a great day. Thanks for listening hope to hear from you soon. Revaa

Answer:2 processors

What's the brand name, model name, and model number of that computer?

How much RAM does it have?

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Let's see what's auto-loading and running in the background and if any obvious issues need to be addressed

Go here and click the green icon to download and save HiJackThis 2.0.4.

After it's been downloaded and saved, close all open windows first, then double-click the saved file to install it.

Allow it to install in its default location - C:\Program Files.

After it's been installed, start it and then click "Do a system scan and save a log file".

When the scan is finished in less than 30 seconds, a log file will appear.

Save that log file.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire log file here.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Let's see what's installed and what may need to be uninstalled, updated, or replaced.

Start HiJackThis, but don't run a scan.

Click on the "Open The Misc Tools Section" button.

Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.

Click on the "Save List" button.

Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file somewhere.

It'll then open in Notepad.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire file here.

Hi all
Recently i spotted that one of my processors is parking... and i don't know how to make it run... i have follow the steps in msconfig by changing number of Processors... but the computer still slow as normal, and task manager still show only 1 CPU running... so if anyone can help me, please let me know...
Thank y'all

Answer:Help about the Processors

Are you running any programs that will use the parked processor, could just be idle, try running some intensive software then check
If not sure you could always run prime95 on it which will stress test the cpu but don't leave alone while doing it as temperatures can rise quickly so be sure to monitor

Question: Processors?

my pc is a 2.2ghz AMD athlon 32000+....which is the equivelent to a 3.3ghz pentium 4...Click to expand...

That is what my mate said that to me on MSN and I was just wondering if thats true or not?

This is my first post but i have been visiting these forums regulary, glad to be a member

Answer:Processors?

Yeah, the AMD line uses a numbering scheme that roughly equals the Intel counterpart, hence the 3200+ being close to a 3.4GHz P4. It doesn't have that clock in megahertz but because its a good chip, in most games and benchmarks an AMD XP processor will beat a similarly placed P4.

Where the P4 shines is heavy multi-tasking, and when your encoding or doing some other intense number-crunching stuff.

Question: 64 Bit processors

As of late i have been looking to upgrade from my 2800+. I have been looking at the 64 bit consumer series from AMD. I was wondering how much better the 3200+ is than the 3000+. Any help on this topic would be great. Kthx

Answer:64 Bit processors

Well, it's really hard to give you a very accurate analysis on this unless someone's currently using it with a 64-bit OS......even so, what 64 games or application are out there? Close to none on the consumer market. I personally would keep your existing processor and wait until a good 64-bit OS and games become available. At that time, you have a better processor and they will be cheaper then as well.

Question: 64 bit Processors

This has been brought up many times however the answer i would like is not amongst these existing posts. All the rage these days are 64 bit processors . I was thinking about upgrading my motherboard for PCI Express because i do enjoy gaming and i hate slow applications. While i was doing this i thought i may as well look into 64 bit to speed up gaming and DVD editing. When i was looking a came across Winchester Core, Venice Core and San Diego core. What does this do and mean. AMD have two types of 64 bit motherboards 754 and 939 what is the difference between them and also does 64 bit processors actually speed up applications that much. would i notice the difference between my computer i use a Matsonic Motherboard with Nvidia 3 bios, a 2500+ athlon xp processor a 160gb hard drive with 512mb Ram and a Geforce fx5700 TD graphics card. Is it worth the big price tag.thanks Very Much

Answer:64 bit Processors

The cores refer to differences mainly in the L2 cache. The wider question is much more difficult to respond to. First, in order to get the best out of a 64 bit processor, you need a 64 bit operating system. XP (64) has only just been released and is only available as an upgrade or to OEM manufacturers. You may find some sites able to offer it with hardware. Linux has had a 64 bit capability for sometime, but cannot be considered a serious gaming platform. There is widespread concern over the lack of drivers currently available, especially for older equipment. So printers, scanners and the like, may have problems communicating with the system. There are few programs written (at the moment) to take advantage of the 64 bit capability, although over time, that will improve. The main reason for 64 bit, is to improve the amount of memory the system can support (up to 4GBts I think), which is important in a server situation, but will make little difference to the current crop of games. In conclusion, I would doubt at this moment in time you would see any significant difference in your games. Until this process has had time to develop, and more software is written specifically for its use, I would be on the side of saving my money.

Question: Processors

I would just like to know which processor get hotter. The AMD 1.33ghz, or the Pentium 4 1.5 ghz, thanx.

Answer:Processors

Gonna take a wild guess and say the amd runs hotter, the p4's need very good cooling.
But it's just a guess. They don't spec the same so to do a one on one comparision is hard.
Amd says 90 to 95 c for theirs, intel specs theirs at 72C.

My motherboard operates at 266FSB and i have 512DDR PC2100 DDR Ram.I want to upgrade my processor as a temp upgrade as they are so cheap to buy now, i have two choices that i am mulling between....The AMD XP 2400 @2.0GHz 266FSBThe AMD XP 2600 @2.13GHz 333FSBThe price difference is minimal....and the 2600 has more power. would this be affected by only operating at an fsb of 266?finally, my latest BIOS says support for the XP 2600 @266. I can't find this processor, only the two i stated. Bearing in mind the XP2600 was the last core before the BARTON range does this mean it will support this processor but only at an fsb of 266 or i have to hunt for the XP2600 that works only at 266fsb? i'm confused...Many thanks!!

Could someone explain what processors are for and what is a good one to buy with my new computer?

Answer:processors

A processor is the "brains" of your computer.
what is a good one to buy with my new computer?

Your question does not really have a definitive answer; it is too vague. We would need to know what the intended use of the system is to be ie are you intending on gaming, doing video editing, just email/web surfing, what?

It is somewhat like asking "What is the best car" Well there are a lot of cars and they have different attributes such as a sports car might not be the best choice for an area that gets a LOT of snow. If that were the case, a 4x4 truck would be "Better" than the sports car.

Question: 7 ghz processors

Hey every one,

I heard from some one that he heard or read some where that usually in the techonolgy world processor speeds double every 18 months. He said that they well double to a 7ghz processor! He didn't know when they will double the speed he was just passing on the information to me. You know how powerful a processor like that would be like? You could pretty much run any program and game maxed out. (with other high-end hardware.)

Well, I've been looking into get a 3.0 ghz or higher processor and as we all know when some thing bigger and better comes out the ones down below get there prices lowered.

Does any one know any thing on this? What are your thoughts on it?

Question: Processors

Ok. I have a few questions about the AMD Athlon processors.

1.) Why is the GHz rating of the XP 2600 higher (2.13 GHz) than the XP 2800 (2.07 GHz)?

2.) What is the difference between the Athlon XP and MP?

3.) Would someone be so kind as to find me the best possible Athlon XP processor (preferably boxed) for $80 or less. If its not a boxed on the processor + fan price must be less than $80 as well. Looking for a 2400 or higher.

Answer:Processors

I would go for at least XP 2500 barton core 333fsb 512 cache, at the moment the cheapest retail box version ($87.00) I could find on web is here:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80170-R
Is great cpu for the money, Lot's of people here at MG are running these, I got two rigs running them.
You can find OEM for less, but no fan and heat sink you would have to buy seperatly, if ya look I'll bet you can get for under $80
If ya cant find for less than surly you could scrape up another $7.00, it's worth it.

The cheapest retail boxed 2400 with shipping $83.75 I found is:
http://www.buyxtremegear.com/axp2400box.html

The differance in 2600 & 2800 GHZ , GHZ differance is slight, but isnt necessarily the main factor in the cpu overall speed, the 2800 is faster and has larger cache,

Athlon MP for servers:

Question: AMD Processors

Howdy,

Does anyone know the reason for the price difference between the
following two AMD 9950's?

HD995ZFAGH BOX RETAIL $179.99

HD995ZFAJ4BGH OEM $289.00

I have been told that the OEM should be the cheaper of the two.

What am I missing?

Thanks Much
Chuck77

Answer:AMD Processors

Have no idea. How about a link to the site?

Perhaps the OEM includes a motherboard... AMD has recently dropped their prices (again) as their top in Quad parts don't sell as well. AMD's best market area is under $100 CPUs.

Recommendtion: Get the cheaper one

Question: 3+ GHz processors

3+ GHz processors: there don't seem to be any about when you look at built PCs. They all seem to be upto 3GHz core 2 duo or 3GHz core 2 quad.Anyone know of a decent power PC that has 3+GHz (but without over clocking as not convinced about doing this to components (I know many of you will disagree with that)) core 2 duo or quad (although happy with a duo)Thanks in advance.

Answer:3+ GHz processors

Think I may need to clarify. I don't want a single processor; I want duo or quad (but happy with the duo) that is +3GHz and I cannot seem to find any. fastest duo I have found is in the Chillblast PCs.Thanks again
