Preferred Solution: how to enable reading 4GB Ridata SDHC card on T61 7663-BC2 with Ricoh R5C476 controller

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: how to enable reading 4GB Ridata SDHC card on T61 7663-BC2 with Ricoh R5C476 controller

The Ricoh reader is very picky with the type of SDHC cards you use, apparently only cards from reputable brands i.e. Kingston are shown to work reliably in this card reader system for anything above 2 gig.

I just bought a new SanDisk SDHC 32GB card but my card reader is not able to detect it, although it can detect SD card. Is there any update driver I need to download to solve this problem?

Y530 is not reading an SDHC card on which I have several photographs. Is there a fix for this?

Answer:Y530 Not reading SDHC card

Hi pauldm and welcome to community,

The card reader in the laptop can reader the types of the card.
SD Card, a MultiMediaCard, a Memory Stick, an xD-Picture Card or a Memory Stick Pro

You can update the Card Reader driver from the mentioned below web link.

Hi All,

I own a Toshiba Tecra and have just bought a new SD card. It's a Kingston 8GB SDHC (Class 6) and when I insert the card it doesnt show up. In Device Manager it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". I've previously had a 512MB SD card that works fine, but I wonder if the capacity is too great?

Any help that you can offer would be greatly received, as I'd like to use a decent speed/size of card for ReadyBoost, to try to get my laptop to run a bit quicker!

Answer:Problem with reading 8GB SDHC card on Tecra R10

Hi

Possibly the card reader driver is not installed properly. This would explain the error code 10 in the device manger.

I recommend visiting the Toshiba European driver page and to reinstall the card reader driver again to get rid of this error code.

PS; What Tecra M do you have?

Hi there,

We've just returned from a month long holiday in Europe where we filled a brand new 8GB SDHC San Disk memory card with photos, and half filled the 4GB SDHC Lexar memory card that came with the camera.

When we plugged the Fuji Finepix camera into our iMac it read and imported all the photos off the (half full) 4GB card no problem, but when we removed that one and put the (full) 8GB back into the camera to import photos it says 'card not initialised' and won't read it.

When we unplug the USB cable and just turn the camera on it tells us 'memory card is full', but when we try to view the images it says 'no images'!!!!

We bought a card reader and tried that with both cards but once again it works fine with the 4GB but nothing happens at all with the 8GB!

There are definitely images on the card because when we insert it into the card reader on our Canon printer we can view them on the small LCD screen but cannot move them, only print directly and there's something like 1600 photos on that card so it's not an option!!

Were we supposed to initialise the card before we used it? It was bought brand new and this holiday was the first time we have used it. The camera doesn't seem to have that option, I have already gone through the menu.

I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can offer me on this as I am anxious to see these photos!!!!

Cheers

Answer:Problems reading SDHC 8GB memory card

Welcome the the forum, there are two possible problems, one with the software your using to get the picture and one with the memory card itself, since the memory card is being recognised its highly unlikely to be broken so this leaves the software your using to get the pictures and since I've never owned a mac I can't help.

If you were in a windows environment or have access to a PC I would say connect the card to a card reader in a laptop or install the camera reading software into a PC and try that and depending on the version of windows try to explore to the files in windows explorer right click get pictures.

If you only have a Mac I would suggest the mac forum or look for updates for bug fixes on the camera manufacturers website.

EDIT with memory card connected to the printer and the printer connected to a PC you can navigate to the pictures, again this depends on your printer model and windows version.

Hi,

When I insert SDHC into the NB200, autoplay starts up but then just keeps running on a loop and the mixed content box appears. Occasionally I've managed to see what's on the SDHC card if i click on 'view files' in the contents box but not always and even then autoplay just starts up again.

Now I may be stupid but it's ok to use an sdhc card in an SD adapter? Does it have to be of the same make? I've downloaded both the hotfix and the sd reader driver but neither seem to work. PLEASE HELP!!!

THANKS
simon

Answer:NB200 - Not reading 16GB SDHC card

Hi chuckles123,

Have you checked the user manual if your notebook supports 16GB SHDC card? This should be done firstly before you do such things?

If your notebook supports such cards, update the card reader driver and try different cards. By the way, which 16GB card is it exactly? I have good experience with SanDisk cards, never had problems with them.

I have used the Ricoh reader to back up my data partition by drag-and-drop copy to Transcend SDHC card. When I try to use drag-and-drop copy again to copy the updated data partition I get the message that there is not sufficient free space. But when I use this procedure on an external USB HDD I do not have that problem--Windows simply copies over the old file on the external HDD. Why does this not work with SDHC card in the Ricoh reader? Also, with this Class 10 SDHC card the initial backup took ages! Please advise, as I really want to use SDHC in the Ricoh reader as a backup medium.

Answer:Ricoh reader-SDHC for backup-cannot do copy and replace

Hello,

My guess would be that the Windows "drag and drop" method does not account for duplicated files when calculating the size of the files to transfer.  You might want to look into a third-party program to perform the copy which does take that into account, or look into using the command line-based RoboCopy (filename: ROBOCOPY.EXE) utility to perform the operation.

Nowhere in the documentation, web site is any info about what kind of controller and hence what size SD cards this model is supporting.Even Lenovo tech support doesn't know that info!I am really hesitant to buy a SDXC card of +32GB only to find out it supports on SDHC cards, thus limited to 32GB... thanks for any useful info, Ralf

Answer:What kind of SD card controller is in a Lenovo IdeaPad 120S-11AIP? SDHC or SDXC compatible?

Hi ITWorxLA,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As per system overview :
IO port: Memory card slot (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC)

Platform specification:
One microSD Card slot, supports up to 2TB

Usually there would be stickers on the box or laptop to indicate the format it also supports.
You can try to find/borrow  a spare 32GB SDXC to test first before purchase.

Hope this helps answer your query.

I got an 8gb micro sdHC card filled up using the adapter, with music, which plays fine.

Before I received this cheap us>microSD adapter I asked the seller if it read HC cards. They said no. It's just a cheap chinese adapter on ebay so there isn't much info on it at all. It's write up didn't say anything about HC capabilities.

Like I mentioned, I was able to use it to load up an 8gb sdHC card.

Does this mean that it will probably also work with a 32gb sdHC card? Is there a size limit that the 8gb card didn't exceed?

If yes, I'd like to buy more now because I don't think these will hold up to much use.

Thanks

Answer:Can My Usb>microsd Adapter Read Sdhc If It Fills An 8gb Sdhc Card? Seller Says It Won't.

I found the same item elsewhere on ebay which mentions that it recognizes up to 32gb, which is what I needed.

So....I suppose there are quite a few adapters out there labelled only SD but will in fact read up to at least 32 SDHC cards.

I think going over 32gb cards might require additional capabilities.

My SD card slot does not work.
I am able to install this , and get an updated driver off windows update.
HOWEVER, in device manager, I see this message with a yellow "!"

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers

Have carried out an sfx /scannow but no corrupted files are reported.
Any ideas how to fix this?

My computer's make is Advent and I cannot get any joy from anyone online regarding my problem. I have posted to the Advent's forum and again, no one seems to know or answer.
These are the details:
Advent fp9004
Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit.

If you can provide a link to a driver's update, will this install automatically after downloading, or do I need to force the installation and what is the recommended way?

I would be very grateful for any information.

Answer:Ricoh SD Host Controller

Hello & welcome to sevenforums,

If you get an updated driver from Windows Update it means its on your computer now, you could manually try to install the Ricoh driver from the Device Manager .

from the device manager right click, search manually on your computer the path.

Follow this tutorial:
Driver Install - Device Manager

You could try to locate the driver name in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

If not working...the only link i founded for ricoh drivers v6.0:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp37501-38000/sp37872.exe

Download the softpack sp37872 and extract it with 7-Zip for 32-bit Windows

Before:
Create yourself a restore point

Run the Setup.exe inside the extracted folder sp37872.

Note:
You can also manually install the driver from the Device Manager by pointing the search to look at the extracted softpack sp37872 if running the setup.exe doesn't work properly on your machine.

Question: Reading SDHC cards

My HP desktop (XP SP3) is about 4 years ago and has a multi-slot card reader, which includes a MMC/SD slot. Similar with my HP all-in-one printer.

I am thinking of buying a new digital camera, most of which now use SDHC cards. Would I be right in assuming that my desktop is unlikely to be able to read them? Unfortunately I don't have a SDHC card to try out

Answer:Reading SDHC cards

Probably not, but card readers/adapters are pretty cheap. In fact I remember getting one bundled with my first SDHC card. Also, AFAIK SDHC readers are backwards compatible so you don't need to use an SDHC card unless you want to. I don't take so many pictures that I feel the need for anything larger than a 1GB card so I've never upgraded in my camera, only in my phone.

I have been having a problem with my built in Ricoh card reader for quite a while, originally while running Vista Ultimate x86 and now with Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I have an Asus G1s.
The problem is that it does not read SD cards, and when I insert an sd card the "Ricoh memory stick disk device" under disk drives in device manager changes to "Ricoh xd-Picture card disk device" and suffers from error 10 failing to start. It seems to me that the problem id that the card reader does not recognise the sd card and thinks it is an xd card.
Under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" I jave three Ricoh devices

Ricoh SD/MMC Host controller HW id

and Ricoh xd-picture card controller HW id

and my standard sda controller HW id
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0822&SUBSYS_15D71043&REV_22
It seems like there is a problem either with the firewire host or the sd sdbus.sys host not recognising the card
I have fully updated all drivers and even tried to change the compatible hardware id in the sdbus.inf and reloading to match the sd host controller al to no avail.
I would very much appreciate any help as the usb card readers I buy are always ... Read more

Greetings,

My computer is a Gateway GT5692, 64bit w/Windows Vista. Recently I had to reinstall Windows. Now everything seems to work but that I can't read SDHC cards anymore. It used to work fine. I can plug in the SDHC card in the "Digital Media Manager". The led lights up, but the computer does nothing. I look on the drives page which normally lights up and nothing happens.

Also, I have 2 card readers USB'd to this computer. When I try to read an SDHC card from them, I get the same result. On one, I get the led to light up, but not on the other. Strange.

This is not the card. I tried 2 different cards; a 4GB SDHC and a 512 MB SD card. Same result.

So I'm thinking the driver?? But just which driver do I reinstall?

Any help would be real nice.

Came across a 3.5" Acer Multicard Reader with a USB port (P/N: CR.10400.002) and plugged it into the floppy slot of one of my computers (running Win XP SP3). Tested the USB port and two commonly used card slots - for SD and Compact Flash. The USB and the CF slot worked fine. However, the SD slot only works with SD less than 2GB. It cannot read SDHC of 4GB. A message says something like "Access Denied. An error with I/O device". It appears that this card reader could be aged and cannot read the faster SD card with large GB. Are there ways to configure this card reader so that it is SDHC compatible. I've been searching for drivers for this Acer card reader but so far fruitless. Appreciate your help to fix this problem. Thanks.

Answer:Multicard Reader with USB Port not Reading SDHC

I believe that >2GB SDHC support requires SDHC compatible hardware in the reader itself. An SD only reader can not be made to work with SDHC cards with a driver update.

I've T420s, Ricoh PICe SDXC/MMC Host Controller, and several SD cards. Right away I can say that the cards (Kingston, Samsung, Transcend) are all right, tried them on different computer and phone, they work well, so I assume this is not a card issue. I never used Card reader extensively, so I can't say if it started lately or was always like that, my T420s is about 1 year old and I'm running Windows 7 32bit. Here is the problem. Device seems to be switching on and off all the time when the card is inserted or taken out. I can say this as I'm keeping device manager window open. It seems like the connection between card reader and motherboard (?) is very bad, as I have to press on the device to pop out and press it back in to appear in the list of devices. When I plug in the card, it might actually show up, but then, when I pop out the card and pop it back it, it won't show again. So I have to take out the device itself again to have a chance of accessing my card. I've tried updating the driver from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014960 But it  didn't help. I've seen this: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/SD-Card-reader-not-working-Code-22-ThinkPad... But even if the device appears under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, there is no "Ricoh SD Disk Device" under "Disk Drives" most of the times when I insert cards. Anyone had similar issues?

Answer:Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Host Controller is working porrly with cards, T420s

Hi, answer42

I would make sure that the BIOS is up to date. If the BIOS is not up to date, the motherboard may not be fully recognizing when a card is present in the port. The latest BIOS for your machine is 1.35, and you can find that here. So definitely make sure the BIOS is up to date and see if that helps the issue.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hi, The SD card reader in my laptop is not working. I have a Carbon X1 laptop (machine type 3443CT0) running a fresh install on Windows 7, 64-bit Ultimate edition. This is not the Win7 image that comes with the laptop, but rather a fresh installation of vanilla Windows 7 ultimate from a Microsoft DVD. I installed all of the relavent drivers for this machine from Lenovo's drivers page:http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT074689 Under the "Camera and Card Reader" category, I installed: Media Card Reader Driver for Windows 7, version 2.14.18.01, released Aug 13, 2012. The installer seemed to finish successfully and asked for a laptop reboot. However, the SD Card reader is still not working. Under Device Manager, in the "Other devices" category, I see "Base System Device" listed with missing drivers. Under the details tab of that item, I choose "Hardware Ids" under property. The vendor ID is 1180 (for Ricoh) and the Device ID is E822. By searching the pcidatabase.com website (below), I found out that this is the "Ricoh PCIe SD/MMC Host Controller" http://www.pcidatabase.com/vendor_details.php?id=1648  Are other people having problems with installing this driver? I have a T61P with a Ricoh SD/MMC card reader.   It originally had Windows Vista and the card reader worked OK with my 4GB SD cards. Due to problems with Vista, I installed Windows XP.  Since then I have not been able to use the SD card reader. Windows recognizes the device in explorer but if I click on it, I just get a window that says the disk is not formatted.  Attempting to format just brings up the floppy drive formatter, which cannot format it. I contacted Lenovo support and they suggested downloading the latest driver.  However, when attempting to install that driver it just says I already have the latest driver.  I found a patch on the Microsoft support site that is for problems reading SD cards larger than 4 GB.  However, when I try to install that patch, it says I already have a service pack (SP3) with this fix.   Any ideas about how to solve this problem?

Hello,

on my laptop (ASUS Z91N), I've got one left driver issue: the integrated memory card reader.

It's called Ricoh SD/MMC controller, the latest driver having the best behavior found is 2003-10-20 (1.4.2.9) from ASUS website for WinXP. All other drivers found does nothing, they install but when I plug the card, nothing appears in "My computer".

The problem is that when I plug a SD card, windows detects it, assigns a letter, but I am unable to open to look at the files. I get "Access denied" every time.

When I try to format, it does it with the good size detected! I tested by looking with another computer.

So, this problem is weird, I never had any issue similar to that in the past.

Anybody here having the same problem?

Answer:Ricoh SD/MMC card reader

Hi there.

I hate to ressurect this old post, but it is the exact same behaviour I have and none of the other threads I found match so well.

So what happends is :
a. plug in a 1GB Panasonic SD card, it gets a letter allocated, but when I try to read from it says that there is nothing there.
b. I try to format it and it sees the right size..
overall what the post above says.

Anyone found any solution for this ?

the reader is a ricoh sd/mmc

I've been trying multiple SD Cards, so far none of them worked. The same thing happens every time. After I insert a card into the slot, the light flashes a few times and on My Computer the card becomes the (F. I double click on it and it tells me I need to format it before I can use it. If I press Cancel it says "F:\ is not accessible. The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted." When I press Format Disk it says "Windows was unable to complete the format." I even brought a new card to make sure. This happened after I upgraded to Windows 7, and I've made sure all of my drivers are up to date after it. My computer is an HP dv9000z running Windows 7 64bit.

Is anyone else out there having problems with the Ricoh 4 in 1 Card Reader, or am I the only one. I realize it is just a small problem but I would like to fix it. I guess if all else fails I will pull it out and throw it over the balcony like I did with the Ultra Bay Multiburner DVD player!! Just curious cause I haven't had any replies and haven't seen anything on the forum about this issue. Cheers

I'm using X230i with Windows 8.The Ricoh driver (risdxc64.sys) is using 25% CPU most of the time (0% after restart, but 25% after some time) I uninstall the driver, and the CPU time was solved. However, I could not use the card reader once I uninstall it Is there other driver available without causing this 25% issue? It's really a big threat to the battery life Thanks!!

Answer:Ricoh Card Reader use 25% CPU

You can use the "old" Windows 7 driver which works fine under Windows 8.Have you tried the newest driver for Windows 8? Since I installed it, I haven't had any CPU spikes caused by this driver . Try it!

@YoannFromParis, Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums.  When dealing with the issues from doing an update to Windows 10 there are a few things that may work to fix the issue. First thing to try is running the Windows Update Troubleshooter. The next step is to run the HP BIOS recovery to reload the BIOS to see if it will sync up with the operating system. HP Notebook PCs - Restoring the BIOS And if this fails to fix the problem, if you did the update to Windows 10 you can do the stand alone installation to see if it fixes any conflict. Download Windows 10 The other option is to roll back to the previous operating system until new updates get released by Microsoft and then uploaded on the HP support page for your notebook. Please let me know how things go.  Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

I had Vista installed on my Acer  5610z laptop and I was able to read my SDHC card, I now have XP and when i put in the SDHC card in the internal card raader nothing happens. I downloaded the drivers from Acer website for XP card reader and still nothing. I know the card reader is capable of reading the SDHC card, because it was working with Windows Vista. I tried everything and still nothing. Anyone have an idea or suggestion.

Maybe if you told us the make and model of your card reader and whether it is internal or external, instead of putting all your question in the title and just a sad smiley where the information should be, you might get an answer.

Hello, I have upgraded from Vista Buiseness 32 bit to Vista Ultimate 64 bit and now my Ricoh 4 in 1 Card Reader is not working correctly. Prior to the upgrade it had no problems and could read all of my cards. I have Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo 8gig, Transcend Compact Flash 4gig, Fuji xD 2gig, and as I said could read them all before the upgrade. Now when I put the Sony Pro Duo with adapter of course it says that I must format the disk or sometimes it doesn't even see the card and says to insert a card into the adapter. When I try to insert the Fuji xD card I get a system crash(blue screen) and when I put the Transcend card with adapter in it sees the card but won't ready boost. All of these cards I can use normally in a generic card reader attached to any of the three USB hubs I have on my machine, but when trying the 4 in 1 I have problems. Hello all, I have a Thinkpad T61, 2gig processor, 4gig ram. It has an internal Ricoh 4 in 1 Card Reader. This reader was working just fine with all of my various cards and adapters untill I upgraded from Vista Buiseness 32 bit to Vista Ultimate 64 bit. When I insert my Sony Memory Stick ProDuo 8gig card(with adapter) into the reader it says that I must format the disk, and sometimes asks me to insert a disk. I try to format the disk and it gives me the error "cyclic rendundancy error" but when I put the card into an external Card Reader on this same machine it runs just fine as normal with the auto play window opening, ect. ect. This is really a pain because I don't want to have the external card reader attached all the time. Also I have a Trancend 4gig card that I use for Ready Boost in an external Card Reader, and it doesn't work in the internal Ricoh 4 in 1either. I have tried all the drivers, manual installs, auotmatic installs and I am out of things to try. Anyone out there have the same problem and if so how do we fix this?? It must be the driver, but as I said I have tried all of them??? Thanks a bunch for any info on this matter!! Singtoh

I have a Thinkpad SL500 with latest 1.30 BIOS running a T9800 (2.93 GHz) CPU and 8GB Ram with Windows 7 Pro (64 bit version) and since day one have had issues with the Ricoh card reader.  I have installed the Ricoh card reader drivers from Lenovo for my machine which is version 3.46.02 and I can't seem to find any that are newer as these are from back on March 26, 2010. Problem in a nutshell is - I use SD cards frequently and when I insert one for the first time, it works as it is supposed to, the icon shows up and I can access all content on the card. Now is where the problem arises - when I eject the card and then try to insert another or even the same card, I get nothing and when I look in the Device Manager, I have a drive listed under Disk Drive section with a yellow symbol and when I check the properties this is what it says... Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38) The only way to gain access to the reader again is to reboot the machine and of course, the process happens all over again after the first SD card that is read. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?  If so, can you please post how you solved the problem? Thanks to any and all that can shed some light on the problem. - Dan

Answer:Ricoh Card Reader issues

I would suggest you to kindly uninstall the card reader driver from the Device Manager then restart the notebook. Please refer the below mentioned web link to download the updated Card reader driver.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-73836

Install the card driver, after this please use the card and check if it works fine.

For further use, I suggest you to safely remove the hardware from the System tray and then remove the card from the card reader.

After not having found the Ricoh Media card reader in Device Manager I downloaded and installed driver using a link I found in this forum. Tried this a couple times until I actually found "Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Host Controller" under "Storage Controller" in Device Manager. However, there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation point. I double-click on the item and see that Device Status is "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device....(Code 52)" I go into the tabs and find that Driver Provider is Ricoh Company, driver date is 7/4/2012, Driver Version is 6.20.11.42 and it is "Not digitally signed." I go into Resource Settings and find "This device is not using any resources because it has a problem." So is the card reader working (or ready to work) or not? BTW ThinkVantage Update never, in my recollection noted that I needed this driver when it was not visible in Device Manager. Also, if I go into C:\ drivers\Win\Multicard I find a folder "Driver" that has various files, incl. risdxc64.sys (I have Win 7 Pro 64-bit). So am I good to go re using the card reader--or not?

Answer:Ricoh card reader--working or not?

I have had the same problem as you. I have found to install I had to edit the configuration file to add Hardware ID 822 since the software looks for 822. Have you figured it out? After installing Windows 7068 I have had problems with the Ricoh xD card driver from MS update. First time BSOD for me with Windows 7.

So far this is the only version that has presented this problem. Even downloading the driver from other sources does not help. It installs the driver and then I get this

Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)

Finally decided to just leave it alone and see what happens.

I've tried searching this forum, but I couldn't find anything that applied to my situation.

I had Vista x64, then upgraded it to Windows 7. I got the companion disc from Sony which included all drivers for upgraded Windows. Everything worked fine, except for SD card reader.

When I insert the card, it does not read. When I go to the device manager and disable / enable the device, it reads. If I take the card out, the computer doesn't realize that the card is not there anymore. If I try to browse the SD card on the computer after I eject it, the computer crashes. (Not immediately. I think Windows remembers what was in it for a little while.)
If I insert the SD card again later(with some changes made) without disabling Ricoh SD host controller in the device manager and enabling it again, it crashes the same way.
It was really annoying having to disable / enable this device every time, but I put up with it.

Recently my computer crashed and my recovery disc was corrupted, so I bought a Windows 7 x64 Home Premium and did a clean install.
I installed all other drivers including the latest motherboard driver, and of course the SD card reader from Sony support.

Exactly same thing happens.

I uninstalled / installed this driver multiple times, but same thing. I even reinstalled it with the "SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller" that Windows 7 installs for me.
Same thing.

I have to disable / enable the card reader device every time.

I'm on a limited budget, and looking for blank CD-Rs on ebay.

I see the usual MEMOREX, SONY, and such, but I also see other brands (for lower prices).

I have tried using IMATION blanks (someone game me some one time, because they didn't like them, and they didn't seem to work for me, either). Same with TDK (never tried the cds, but I know their audio tapes are cheap and break easily).

I don't have a fast CD burner (I have a HP CD-WRITER PLUS 8200 series (external) so look for blanks that say multispeed, or 1X-48X.

Usually I end up getting a 50 pack of Sony, Memorex, etc at Walmart, when someone I know is going there and can get it for me.

I've seen STAPLES brand on ebay auctions, and bid on these at times (but lost). Don't see any of these currently. I have been getting 50 packs (on spindles) but have been looking for 100 packs, if the price is right. Since I don't have a way to get to actual stores to buy them.

Now, I see several good- price deals for a brand RIDATA, I looked in google and all I can find are places to buy this brand, and no information about them. It says 48X multispeed. I would hate to buy 50 or 100 of them and have them not work.

I wouldn't mind buying a lesser known, or generic type brand, if it works okay.

I mainly want them to back up photos and files, and occasionally copy a music cd, or make one from audio files.

Anyone have any feedback or ideas?

Thanks,

Carrie

I'm very pleased that lenovo finally decided to release Windows XP x64 drivers. However the drivers for the internal Ricoh SD card reader don't work on my W700 (2757CTO). When I insert a SD card into to the reader the LED goes on but no drive is displayed in "My Computer" or "Computer Management\Disk Management". The driver installation went smoothly and resulted in addition of three Ricoh controllers (Memory Stick, SD/MMC, xD-Picture Card) to the device manager. The "Add or Remove Programs" panel lists a "RICOH R5U8xx Media Driver ver.3.58.01" as it's supposed to be. I tested this on a clean XP x64 in addition and the same SD card works fine in two other card readers (USB and ExpressCard). I also have Vista x64 and 7 x64 on the same machine and the reader works properly under the two OS. Any suggestions? Thanks

Answer:W700 internal Ricoh card reader under XP x64

I found a solution myself. The problem isn't caused by the Ricoh/Lenovo drivers but by the Microsoft SD Bus driver, which doesn't support SDHC. There is a hotfix for XP x86 provided by MS (KB934428). For x64 however there's only an unofficial source available: http://thehotfixshare.net/board/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=9395 The new x64 driver is from Microsoft as well and I don't know why they don't offer it officially on their own site. At least after installing this hotfix my SD card reader works properly.

Hi, I have drivers for all my R61 except the Ricoh Multi Card Reader.  It appears there is an old beta driver around, but this didn't fully work. The driver matrix only shows drivers for XP, Vista, not Win7. Does anyone know a release driver download link? Thanks RW

Answer:Win7, R61: Ricoh Multi Card Reader

Vista Drivers available on download pages worked for me!  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS013901 Download the Vista/XP's version and run the exe which will extract the files. Use the device manager to install the driver/update drivers but browse manually to the location where you've extracted the files earlier. Windows should pick up the drivers automatically. Proceed manually for the second device too.

A very very good question. I will check to see what answer you get.Drivers and updated drives as well as released BIOS upgrade should be certified and guaranteed to work. I have seen cases where that is not the case. This is a new on. I am currently holding off on my BIOS update since there is no response about the 1.41 release. I don't want to brick my MB accidentally.

Hi all,

I have a samsung x60 Plus which as of yet has no windows 7 specific drivers but it does have Vista.

The laptop has a ricoh card reader (xd, sd smc) this does work as I have rebooted into XP and it reads and writes fine.

In windows 7 I either end up with the standard SDA driver that win7 installs which reports as working correctly but nothing happens when you enter a memory card OR I get error code 10 cannot start, depending on which set of the various vista and windows 7 drivers I have tried.

So far I have tried;
Generic Ricoh windows 7 card reader drivers
Samsung x60 Vista card drivers and vista chipset drivers
Windows standard drivers

Anyone have any ideas..? Does seem to be a fairly common problem but I have tried quite a few solutions with no luck. Any help greatly appreciated.

Answer:SDA compliant card reader (Ricoh) code 10 cannot start

Welcome to seven forums kangarolf: Unfortunately you may need to wait for the manufacture to provide windows seven specific drivers, since you have tried all the others without success. The only other idea I would have is to copy and paste the hardware id string to see if a driver can be located. To do this go to device manager>click on device>properties>details tab>drop down menu>hardware id. Fabe

We have two T430's in my household and T430s's and at least three have developed this problem. Although this issue has been known for a while, there appears no solution other than disabling the card reader, which I sometimes use. The computers are out of warranty, but I did manage to connect with a tech support person through the support system, who said they would recommend re-imaging the hard drive, .i.e., going back to the operating system as shipped. If this is the institutional response, then the implication is that Lenovo doesn't promise that its products will continue to work as intended if you upgrade Windows. So perhaps the solution is to switch to Apple, or Microsoft laptops, to achieve better integration between hardware and software. At any rate, I'm done with Lenovo.

I have x220 with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Device manager shows under Storage Controllers "Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC host controller," but there is a yellow triangle with "!" and a Device Status Code 52 message "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device." I checked in C:\Drivers\WIN\Multicard and found two *.cat files--which, I understand, are required to confirm digital signature. Each of them (ridisk.cat and risdxc.cat) has a signed and valid certificate! So what is going on? Will the card reader work? Is there something wrong with how Windows 7 is treating the Ricoh driver, which I downloaded from the Lenovo site? Why should I be getting this grief?

Answer:Ricoh card reader driver-not digitally signed?

Hello,

Perhaps the driver is damaged?

Try deleting the Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC host controller from the Device Manager and then restarting the computer in order to let the Device Manager re-detect it and re-install the device drivers.  Does that solve the problem?

i just got a pci to pcmcia card, a ricoh 5c475, and windows recognizes it and installs it, but under device manager it has the yellow exclamation point icon and under the resources tab for the card it says "code 12 system can not find enough resources"

i have tried several things so far, including every pci slot, reinstalling windows without acpi, just standard i486, adjusting bios irq and memory settings, uninstall/reinstall/disable, nothing changes a bit. there are no device conflicts from what i can see.

i have searched the web for a bit, and it seems these cards don't like amd motherboards..... any suggestions?

I have a Dell XPS M1710 laptop. I recently installed windows 7 home premium 64bit. I can't seem to get my built in Ricoh 5 in 1 memory card reader to work. I installed the recommended driver using the dell drivers on their website. None of the drives are appearing under my computer, and nothing happens when I insert a memory card. I have tried several 1 and 2gb cards. Both high speed and regular with no success. I went to folder options and unchecked the box to hide empty drives in my computer. I am unable to locate anything under device manager for the Ricoh card reader.

A - I want it to display the empty drives in my computer
B - I want it to read my darn memory cards

Any ideas, I'm starting to think the reader itself may be defective. Please help me diagnose and hopefully fix this problem. Thanks!

As far as I can find Ricoh 5 is XP and not Windows 7.

I can't uninstall the Ricoh Bay8Controller. I've tried disabling it in my Device Manager, uninstalling the driver, uninstalling the entire device, but it won't work permanently: after a reboot, the device shows up again.

I want to uninstall it, because it always shows up in the ?Safely Remove Hardware?. Normally, this icon doesn't show (and thus doesn't bother me), but with this piece of hardware reinstalling itself, the icons keeps showing up. Too annoying for words to describe...

If it wouldn't show up I wouldn't mind having it installed. Besides, I might need to use the device (it's a smart card reader) sometimes. I just don't want to see it on my task bar where it annoys me.

When I had Windows 7 and 8 installed, the device could be disabled/uninstalled/invisible. How do I achieve this in Windows 10?

(There are some additional devices, such as a fingerprint reader, that will neither install nor uninstall correctly. However, they only show up in Device Manager, nowhere else, so I'm good with that.)

I plugged in my SD/SDHC Card device into my computer, multiple times to no avail. It's possible that my computer didn't detect it. How can I fix this?

Answer:Help with SD/SDHC card

Hi Angelique1472, and welcome to TSG.

I can't tell from your subject line and post if you are having a problem with plugging an SD/SDHC card into a reader on the computer or if your are having a problem with attaching an SD/SDHC reader to the computer.

In the first case, if you are using an SDHC card and an older computer, the reader may not be compatible with SDHC cards and may only support SD cards below a certain capacity.

In the second case, the reader may not be detected until there is a memory card plugged into it. If it is an older reader, it may not be compatible with SDHC cards. The reader may also require drivers be installed on the computer in order to function.

In any case, please give us the details of all the hardware involved and the version of the operating system running on your computer.

Question: SDHC Card

I have a Sony VGC RB62G computer with Win XP SP3. It will not recognize a 4GB SDHC card. Where can I find the drivers for the SDHC card?

Answer:SDHC Card

Hello and Welcome -A quick line or 2 on SD and SDHC complianceIf your computer's internal card reader works with 2GB (or lower) SD cards but fails to read a 4GB (or higher) SDHC card, then the computer's internal reader is not SDHC compliant. This same logic also applies to digital cameras, if the digital camera reads 2GB (or lower) SD cards but fails to read a 4GB (or higher) SDHC card, then the digital camera is not SDHC compliant.SD and SDHC specificationsThe initial SD card specification defined the interface for cards only up to 2GB capacity. The subsequent SDHC specification was developed to provide increased capacity of 4GB ? 32GB cards. Computers and other products purchased before 2008 may not be SDHC compatible. Computers and other products purchased before 2007 are not SDHC compatible.Verifying the card reader slotIf the card reader slot on your computer does not have the SDHC logo, it is most likely not SDHC compatible and will only read cards up to 2GB capacity.Other options you can use to read files on your SDHC cardIf your computer's card reader is not SDHC compatible, you have 3 options available:1. You can connect your camera (or other device) that works with SDHC to your computer using a USB cable that came with the camera. You should be able to transfer files to the computer this way.2. You can contact your computer manufacturer to see if they have a free firmware update for your model that will make it SDHC compatible3. You can buy inexpensive ... Read more

I have a Kingston/Ricoh SD card (8 GB). When I eject it via "safely remove hardware" tray icon and then insert it to another laptop, it always warns to scan for errors but after scanning there is always no problem found. Why do I always get this scary warning? A USB key (also 8 GB) does not do this.

I have a SanDisk Ultra II 4GB Memorystick Pro Duo + adapter. My N200 won't recognize my 4GB Memorystick (with the adapter), but it would recognize another 512MB SanDisk Memorystick Pro.I tried reinstalling the latest drivers from Lenovo ( http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67827 ) - when I insert the 4GB MS it would show up as a Memorystick Pro with drive letter E: under "Computer", but when I click it, it would ask me to insert a disk. When I remove the MS, the drive would disappear.I then tried the latest drivers from here: http://www.station-drivers.com/page/ricoh.htm - it would again show up under "Computer", but now clicking it would keep telling me that I need to format it, and also when removing the card, the E: drive would remain as MS Pro.The adapter seems fine, as I'm using it in the camera. A driver issue? Would there ever be a fix? Does a 4GB MS work for anyone? Anyone to turn to? Thanks in advance for any shred of information!

Hi, Just did a clean (well, Lenovo Restore clean) Win 7 Pro 64 bit install on my 2441 W530.  The issue is that the card reader doesn't seem to recognize cards.  The Driver is installed and claims to be "working properly".  But if I shove a card in the slot and have it click in, nothing happens.  No little "thudump" noise from the O/S, no recognition of the drive in Windows Explorer.  Any ideas? Thanks, J

If you boot the W530 from a Linux Live CD and attempt to access an SD Card, is it then recognized?  If not, I would say that it is a hardware issue (perhaps the internal card reader apparatus is loose).

Dear all, I have been using x61s 7666-B67 with XP for some time. Updated my system to windows 7 in Dec 09. Everything worked perfectly, especially the SD card slot. I could manage to use the sd card slot with my Sandisk 32G card. No problem until approximately a month ago. I checked my device manager and found an exclaimation marker next to the followings 1. IEEE1394 OHCI compliant host controller2. Ricoh R/RL/5C476(II) or compatible cardbus controller3. SDA standard compliant sd host controller. I tried to update the drivers via internet. It said that I got the most updated driver, but the exclamination mark still present. Then uninstall and installed the drivers. It said the followings: "Your computer's system firmware does not have enough information to configure and use this device. To use this device, contact your computer manufacturer to obtain a firmware or bios update (Code 35)" I could not find the information on the internet regarding this. I want to know1. Is that a known issue with X61s and windows 7?2. Does this sound like a bios or driver problems?3. If so, can Lenovo advise me how I can get round and get this fixed asap please. I use the sd card as my backup for some of the important files. Thanks,Vincent

I have an X1 Carbon Touch i7 16 GB RAM Model 3443CTO, up-to-date drivers and BIOS, running Windows 8.1. Since I received the device, my Ricoh Card reader would cause my CPU utlization to be elevated 70-80%, thus causing my fan to kick-in at high speed, causing a lot of noice. This would occur at random times, even when not have any media inserted into the reader. Truthfully, the reader has never been used (but I'd like to begin using it). Rebooting my machine would not resolve the issue, as CPU utilization would be elevated after the reboot. I was able to determine the Ricoh Car dReader caused the problem via process monitoring and Device Manager. To resolve the issue, I have disabled the Ricoh Card Reader in Device Manager, and my CPU utilization immediately falls to 1-2%. I have had my motherboard and speakers replaced 3 times, and I believe I have other hardware issues with USB. I'm wondering if there are significant problems with my hardware or if these are a series of coincidences. Has anyone else experienced these issues? See attached image for the disabled hardware in Device Manager.

Answer:X1 Carbon Touch - Ricoh Card Reader causes high CPU utilization

it sounds like you have a few things hardware related that could be you issue... i would check for any bent prongs on your mobo or your usb card/combo card... seems pretty strange. also how the heck do you have an x1 carbon/carbon touch wih 16gb of ram? maybe that was a typo?

Hi, currently i'm very outdated since all I own is an Olympus SD card with 128mb memory which i've been using in my Fuji digital camera that i bought long ago.
see: http://www.shopping.com/Fuji-FUJIFILM-128-sec-XD-Picture-Card-DPC-128/info

At this time, the card has become pretty full, so decided to buy one with more memory.

But all I see now in stores are SDHC memory cards which look somewhat different than the SD card i've been used to.

The guy at the Walmart tech dept. couldn't say for sure if their SDHC cards would fit my digital camera, because my camera & SD card were at my house, and he didn't want to guarantee a fit, sight unseen.

Can someone please advise which current ones would be as compatible for my camera as the above linked one?

Thanks

Question: SDHC card problem

I have a Canon Ixus is850. Before holiday I found it would accept the SCHC cards and I bought a Kingston 4gb SDHC card as I knew I would likely be taking movies rather than stills. I have downloaded images from the card to computer Ok except for one which none of the software I have (Picasa, Canon, Adobe or Micro) recognise which is a movie at 1.3gb long. Shorter movies have downloaded from the card OK. It plays in the camera without trouble and when connected to TV. Yes we can watch it OK but I want to back it up. I have tried though the camera and through the card reader (which didn?t recognise the card) on both PC and laptop. Any suggestions please? Thanks

I am having problems downloading from a SDHC card.    In the past all I had to do was insert the card and the pictures were downloaded.   I'm now getting a pop-up on lower left corner of my screen that simply says SDHC.    I'm lost as to what to do.

Answer:Downloading SDHC Card

Upon the detection of a "removable" device, Windows can do a few different things. For example, insert a CD-ROM, and it will ask "open to view files", or "play music".In fact, Windows can be set to "automatically" do one of those choices. So, I think that, in the past, you had told Windows to automatically run some software to upload the pictures. But, that "default" seems to have been "lost". If you double-click that 'SDHC', does Windows pop-up a menu of choices? Is there a check-box to "automatically use my choice each time" ? If you open 'Computer', do you see a list of devices, e.g., 'C:' for your disk-drive, 'D:' for your CD/DVD,and maybe 'E:' is associated with the SDHC device?  Double-click on 'E:', and see what happens.

Help,

I bought a Canon 450D with an 8gb SDHC, didnt format the card, took a load of photos, then realised my computer would not recogise the card at all, i mean nothing, when in the SD drive and using an external card drive, so i tried connecting the camera to the computer and still nothing. Now the camera wont even recognise the photos and just says the card needs to be formatted, so i gave up on saving the photos but the camera will not even format the card now! So its useless to me right now.

I then bought a second 8gb card, formatted it this time, took a load of photos, still computer will not even recognise card, at all. But i do have a 512mb old card that works perfectly, no problems, instantly recognised.

Any thoughts? Are these two 8gb cards of any use? I did download and try 'Recuva' to find the photos but it was unable to find the card.

Any ideas appreciated.

Answer:Computer cannot see 8gb SDHC card

Older readers can’t read the new HD cards. But you should be able to access the photos through the camera connection. You didn’t say whether you tried the camera with the second card.

It sounds like the first card might have been defective. I don’t think you would get that kind of indication if the card had the write protection switch on, but check it anyway.

There's only one program I know of and it's attached in ZIP format. Make sure to read the "Read Me". I'd be leary of the "no-name" Chinese one. It could be one of those "doctored" cards that are made to seem like their capacities are much more than their actual capacities.

I was curious about how to fix an SDHC card that has started telling the camera the memory card has an error and that it is locked. Then when you went to put it in the computer the computer won't recognize it at all either. I did a Google on this problem and the only thing I could find was about the little slide on the side that would lock the card.

That was not the case with this as it happened in the camera. We were at a Luau in Maui and the card went to 0 and said Memory card error. Not a nice thing to see when you have a couple days worth of pictures from Kauai and another couple from Maui. I then placed the card in the computer when we got back from the Luau hoping I could recover them from the card. No program was going to be able to recover them because now the computer will not even recognize the card when I put it in. I cleaned the contacts on the card with a Q tip to make sure they were not dirty but that still did not help.

I was curious to find out what people have done to get the card to work. I did come up with a solution but am just wondering what others have done.

so 4gb works, 8gb don't and 16 gb works...why

I just got a nikon D40 (yea i no its a dated camera, but its good for starting out with). I took a bunch of pictures and loaded the 4gig SDHC into two different card readers and nothing. One card read stopped being detected anymore and the second one (the one that the camera store gave me) was detectd but not the SDHC. I have windows xp pro 32bit edition. I couldn't find any drivers on the cards manufactures website. Does anyone know how I can get this card read? Thanks

Answer:SDHC card not working please help

Hello,

Are you sure that the card reader can read 4GB cards? Most of the card readers i know of have a 2GB card limit. I would check to make sure that the card reader can even recognize the 4GB card first.

Cheers,
Mak

Question: SDHC card reader

I have 4 micro SDHC camera cards, a 64 meg, 2 gig, 4 gig and 8 gig. Problem: my computer will only read the 64 meg, via a adapter, and not the 2 gig and above. I can read all directly from the camera connected to the computer via a USB port. Whats up with this?http://b.tsgstatic.com/smilies/mad.gif

Answer:SDHC card reader

Is it an old computer ? Those SDHC cards have evolved to higher capacities over time but your computer's Bios may be too old to read the larger ones.

I have a Lenovo Ideacentre all in one touchscreen pc with internal dvd, usb and sdhc card reader - but it has not recognised any of these since the Windows 10 upgrade. How do I now download photos from the card from my camera?

Answer:Why does my PC now not recognize the sdhc card?

I'd first check Lenovo's site for any new drivers:Products - Lenovo Support (US)
Then, check for updates for Windows 10 in Settings/Update&Security
You can also check each of these devices by right clicking on the Start button, selecting Device Manager, and see if there's any issues with these installed devices. If there's a problem, there will usually be a yellow exclamation mark next to the device in the list. Here, you can also manually update driver software (if a newer driver exists) by expanding the device category and right clicking on the device in question.
