Preferred Solution: T61 stop charging.. NO AC plug sign

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I did: - Update Window- update BIOS ver 1.4.4- BIOS > setting > general Battery Information: health excellent, 80% (Idle), AC Adapter = 45W-Power Management > Primary Battery Charge Configuration: Standard- all step here (www.dell.com/.../SLN296542), except (step 5 & 6).- I ran diognasis test in BIOS: everything passed. What could I do next? Thanks

I was given a nextbook several months ago. I don't know how to tell details like what version it is. It says manufactured Sept. 2014, and has serial number.

I do have operating system details though. It was upgraded to Windows 10 shortly before I received it.
My issue: No matter where I plug it in, directly in an outlet, or into a power strip designed for a computer, in a heavy duty power cord, the square plug part (not the cable to nextbook) gets hot. Not just warm, hot. So I can never get the battery fully charged, because soon as it gets beyond slightly warm, I have to unplug it. Worried about overheating and fire. I've never had anything likethis before, but I don't think this is normal.
I've included 2 images of the cable/plug. Also image of system info.

Any suggestions what the issue is and what I can do for it? My Computer just quit on me, so I'm relying on my nextbook until I learn if computer can be fixed or if it's a goner.

Yesterday I encountered a problem. My Dell laptop not charging. But is showing in notification area charger plug in but not charging. I check my battery heath from bios. It's showing battery health normal. But adapter type showing as a unknown. I am confused If my adapter is going to dead, then why it is showing "plug in" in notification area.

Please help to resolved that.

Answer:My laptop is not charging but showing plug in.

Right.. Well there's only a few ways to test this, but both involve a kind friend or money lol.

The free way is to borrow someone elses power supply. As long as its 19v and about 3a it should be fine.
If it charges off that, its your psu, if it doesn't, its possibly battery.

The other method is to take the battery out and get a vault meter on the terminals on the laptop. 2 of these in some combination should kick out 19v DC. If it doesnt then an internal fault could be to blame.

The 3rd is to ignore the battery health meter (as at the end of the day as long as it has a charge its going to say its fine) and buy a new battery.

Dell Inspiron 15 5558

My Laptop is not charging then the indicator of the laptop blinking white and orange.    See Video Below
then what the main problem the AC adaptor or the battery ?
need to identify the problem then i will find some parts for replacement

Answer:Plug in , not charging Dell inspiron 15 5558

Does the system correctly identify the AC adapter or does it show unknown?  F2 at powerup to check.
If the adapter IS recognized, replace the battery.
If the adapter IS NOT recognized, and is a non- Dell adapter, replace it with a Dell adapter.  If it's a Dell adapter and it's not recognized, replace it with a new Dell adapter first.  If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC jack in the system:

If that doesn't solve the issue, replace the mainboard.

Hi, my laptop's battery is not charging. I replaced the battery with a new one, but do not load the same. By accident I retrieved the power Jack around 2 mm from the socket of the pc, and charging has begun regularly! I tried several times and I noticed that the battery will only occur if before I insert completely the plug into the pc, and then pull it of about 2 mm. What can be wrong?

When playing games, the computer drains the battery and noticed that the battery is not charging based on the icon at the bottom right, after ignoring it, the 10% windows warning of low bat appeared and it keeps draining because it is not charging. During this scenario, my power adapter is plug-in with lit on. I dont really know what is wrong with the unit because, if you close the game itself, it can charge normally. Im guessing that it doesnt produce power to the battery while charging at a game play.
another thing, contacted chat support and got remote support, he was connected and he was in another session then waited for 20mins. without solving anything. just wasted my time for 20mins.
any thoughts or solutions that i could do it myself? thanks.

Answer:Alienware 17 R3 - not charging during game play even though it is plug

The power supply may not be putting out enough power to keep charging it while the computer is running games.  This shouldn't happen, how long has this been going on?  Is this a new computer?  Has it ever worked right?  You should contact Dell and let them know they need to do a swap of this power supply for you.

My wife?s Sony Vaio PGC-9U1M, bought in June 2005 has developed a worrying fault. The charging plug that goes into the socket on the back of the Sony has become a loose fit, so much so that it has required some skill to get it into the best charging position. I?d noticed the plug and lead were starting to feel warm, but tonight I sat over it for a couple of hours whilst it charged continuously up to about 80%, but was shocked when I pulled it out and it was very hot, soft, and contorted out of shape. It has got some white gluey stuff that has set on it that looks as though it may have come from the female laptop socket.I?m wondering now if the heat has caused the looseness rather than the other way round.Even if the charging worked, it can?t be used because of the potential fire hazard. I?m sure when I disconnected it the lead and plug were close to meltdown, and a short circuit could have been disastrous. The battery was mildly warm, so it doesn?t seem to be a case of self combusting battery here.Anyone able to explain what?s going on here? Similar experiences?I suppose I?d better get it repaired before we go up in smoke. I?m not expecting much interest from Sony, and I have no extra warranty on it.

Answer:Dangerously hot Sony laptop charging plug.

I was troubleshooting why my daughters Yoga 13 would not charge battery and then stopped working even when plugged in.  If I left it sit for week or two till battery was 100% dead it would charge all the way up, soon as you turned it on it would work but over 1 hours or so drain the battery till dead and Yoga would die.  Here is what I found.  The green yellow and red wires must have been just touching in the heatshrink as Iifted the plug gently I could see they were broken at the solder joint.  I resoldered them then just to be sure it never happened again I hot glued where all 5 wires connect so never going to move.   Been working for over a month. :-)

Recenty I install Windows 8 to my laptop (Dell Vostro 3300). But When I plug in the adapter, it just a few seconds to charge and back to  not charging anymore. even when I shutdown and plug in, it still wont charge.
I already try to uninstall the ACPI driver and unplug, restart and plug in again. in fact, I already try all options that show when I google it.
I try to switch with other batterie and adapter from my friend with same version of my laptop, but  still it wont charge. please help me to solved this. thank you.

Answer:Dell Vostro 3300 in Windows 8 Not Charging When Plug In

Hi BILLY_SHN,
Are you using an original Dell adapter? Is the adapter frayed? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay in firm or does it fall off easily? Is there any charge on the battery available?
If the battery charge is more than 10% - then update the BIOS - http://dell.to/28ORaZe
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.
If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
Write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

When I plug in for charging battery then screen goes black? when I set the  power plan at HP reccommended)But  I set the power plan at high performance then this one is OK.Please advise me to resolve

Answer:laptop screen goes black when plug in for charging battery

Did you mean to say that it goes black for a second and then returns to normal? Your notebook sounds like one with switchable graphics.  My HP product loan Envy17-3002ea does that because I have the graphics power options set to automatically switch to the energy saving GPU when on battery.  If you don't want that to happen, just take the tick mark out of the box that say automatically switch. Then it will stay in high powered GPU all of the time, but will always use more battery power when on battery. This is a decision that only you can make.    regards, erico

I usually use my Yoga 2 Pro with AC Adapter plugged in. I turn on Conversation mode in Lenovo Energy Manager and get a message of "Plug in - Not Charging" everytime the battery is already 60% charged. Does it mean that AC electricity will directly serve to run the laptop without going through the batttery like a desktop computer?
I'm worried this habit will ruin my battery lifetime.

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro - Does Plug in - Not Charging on Conversation Mode harm the battery?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Yes, when the charge level reaches 60% and you receive that message it means the battery is no longer receiving a charge and the laptop is being powered by the AC adapter.

No, using conservation mode will actually extend the health of your battery which means the battery will have a longer life time.   It is the continually charging when the battery's charge level reaches 100% level that will shorten the life of the battery.

eAnthology is "adware". all it does is simply display ads to you... it isn't spyware, but it

For some reason my I cannot disable or set my plug and play service to manual. It always seems to be running no matter what I try. When I try to manually stop the service, the option is grayed out along with all other options. I tried to do a sfc/ and the operation didn't seem to fix the problem. Is anyone familiar with this? Thanks

Answer:plug&play service will not stop

Try disabling the services that depend on Plug & Play, and see if that changes anything. I'm thinking it won't let you because a service that depends on it is running.

In general, greyed-out services are a sign of malware, like when your windows buttons are classic and the option to change it is greyed-out.

Dial-a-fix has a tool that "Repairs Permissions", set's them to what you could call "factory default". I've never seen your problem, and am wondering if you have a broke computer rather than a "how do I tweak this thing" kind of problem.

Are you trying to do this to get some performance ? If so, the single biggest performance booster I've found is a program called "MyDefrag". Not only does it defrag the files, it moves more-frequently accesses files to faster parts of the HD, and less-frequently used files to slower areas.

Hey everyone =)

First off, I'm not entirely sure if this is the right section of the forum so if I have got it wrong apologies in advance!

Basically I have been having some problems with my new computer concerning the USB ports. The problem I have is that SOMETIMES when I plug a USB device in, or mount a virtual drive, it disables ALL of the ports both on the front and back (I have 4 on the front and 2 on the back) and then I have to enact out the following process to get them to work.1. Turn off the computer by holding the power button.2. Turn it off at the back and wait for a few seconds. (By back I don't mean the wall - there's a switch on the back of the computer as well as the usual on switch on the front)3. Turn it back on at the back.4. Press power.5. As it's turning back hold power button again to turn off.6. Press power and let it turn on.After all that it SOMETIMES works and if it doesn't I have to repeat the process until it does!... which as you can imagine is very annoying! What is also odd is that when I plug a device in and it doesn't disable the ports, if I keep moving my USB mouse around it will briefly stop, then start, then stop, then start again (basically stops twice before working - as if it is struggling with something). The USB speed is also very slow when transferring data and has occasionally come up with a message on start-up saying something to the effect of 'why don't you try plugging your device into a high speed usb 2.0 port' (e... You may want to manually reinstall the chipset drivers back into the system to see if that will resolve the issue. Usually, this resolves these type of problems. The 2 USB ports on this motherboard are 3.0 so, even if the device is USB 2,0 that you are using it should work.

Hi,

on start up XP home in my Acer netbook the "Log On to windows" comes up.

Where the user name is it shows "user" & no password shown.

By pressing OK it continues the boot up.

I never asked to log on & this started the last few months.

Any way to stop this happening?

Answer:Solved: XP stop sign in on start XP

So you are saying the username is now not showing, and there is no prompt for a password. Whereas before it used to show a username and ask for a password ?

Hi..
My problem is that Non-plug and play drivers stop responding, which causes the computer to stop functioning. Then i'll have to turn it off from the cable and reboot.

Sometimes it happens after 10-15 minutes from the time I turn the computer on.

the previous pic. shows the drivers i'm having trouble with

the next pic. summarize what i'm facing due to drivers problem. [pic. from tuneup]

To mention, the problem started 2-3 days ago.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Problem with Non-plug and play drivers [stop responding]

Have you checked for malware? I'd suggest running the free Malwarebytes. Update the database and run the full scan. It could take over an hour depending on size of hard drive.

Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a free download that removes viruses and malware from your computer

If Malwarebytes is clean I'd next check the integrity of your system files. Try running System File Checker. If it finds any problems run 3-4 scans.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Each time the software wants to know if I want to greant access to thepossible threat. Has anyone else used the software and/or having the same problem?

I know that a huge part of Windows 10 is that they are trying to make it all on the cloud, but I feel MUCH more secure with everything on my computer. I will want to use the cloud for some things, but not for everything.

The thing I want to avoid the most is using my Microsoft account to sign into my computer. I want to have my own local account that is separate from all internet as my computer login. If I want to do stuff online, I will go to the browser.

My annoyance is that Every time I try to search for a folder or program using the search button, it opens Cortana, who immediately asks me to sign in with my Microsoft account. At first I was fine with it, but then I noticed that it changed my computer login into my Microsoft account login.

Is there a way to make Cortana stop telling me to sign in to Microsoft every time I try to search for a folder? It is really annoying.

Answer:How do I make search stop telling me to sign in.

Periodically when I sign into my computer the startmenu will be open. I don't like this. I feel like I saw other people discussing this for some site.

Answer:Stop having start menu open when I sign in

I only ever see this when I switch accounts - sign in to another account without signing out of the first. When I sign out of the second account and sign in again to the first it's exactly where I left it - including having the Start menu open.

PS: Resuming from Sleep or Hibernate will do it too, that is if you initiated Sleep/Hibernate from Start's power button. I don't, I just close the lid.

I've read that you can ruin your battery if you keep your power cable plugged into the battery all the time, Is there a way I can disable it from charging all together when it's at 100% or does this 1 already do that. Or does none of that matter and uplugging it at 100% is just better. Thanks!

Answer:Stop charging when 100%

I can really understand your worry about the battery, it is safe to unplug the power adapter after the battery charged to 100 percent.

This problem has been occuring for about 3-4 weeks now and the problem keeps getting worse. I found some solutions to the problem on other websites but because of the search problem I cannot find those sites anymore. Every time I search google, yahoo, msn, and just about every other search engine; I get a list of "find more information about <search topic> at <website>". where the website is usually ezanga, stop-sign and many others. Please help me. Keep in mind I don't know too much about computers. I know a lot about running programs and others but not much about how to run in safe mode and dos promts.

Answer:Internet Search Virus (ezanga, stop-sign, etc.)

I can install and attach the HijackThis log if needed.
Also Microsoft Anti-Spyware keeps finding it, but the problem keeps reinstalling itself back into my computer.

Possible Host File Hijack (Spyware)
"Host file redirection of 66.180.173.39 beta.search.msn.co.in beta.search.msn.com.sg auto.search.msn.com"

I think what the spyware is doing is change the IP Address on the search engines or something allong those line. Is there any advise on removing the virus. I don't want to do a system restore.

I have a 2 week old T61 with a new 9-cell battery.  The notebook can not charge the battery to 100%.  I also have an external battery charger and it has no problem charging the battery to 100%.  I already checked Power Manager and I set it to use "custom" so charging should start at 96% and stop at 100%.  No matter what I tried, the laptop just won't charge the battery beyond 74%.  Even if I shut off the notebook and let the power cable plugged in for days, when I power it up, it is at 74%. I am also running the latest Power Manager software and patches from Lenovo.  I searched but couldn't find another report of this problem.  Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:T61 Battery stop charging at 74%

Do you mean that after using the external charger your ThinkPad showed the battery as 100%?  Or 74%?  It Might just need a guage reset.  That can be done in the battery tab of the ThinkPad Power Manager application.

Hi

You could change the settings in Realtek audio manager which can be found in control panel.
There should be a tab called I/O or something like that?
At the right you will find the headphone and mic plug? do a right click on headphone plug and check if the option enable internal speakers has been enabled?

I don't have to sign in when starting the computer. No problem there.

But after having a clean re-install of Windows 10 (Anniversary Upgrade), (after having an SSD installed) I now have a picture of a tree trunk. To get rid of that I press the Space Bar. Then I get a stylised shape representing the place for a user picture, then below that the name of the computer, and below that a rectangular box with "Sign in". I have to move the mouse pointer to that box and click. After all that fuss I see my Desktop. None of that happened before the SSD and the Windows 10 + Anniv. Upgrade was installed.

I have done Settings > Sign-in options > followed by a list of irrelevant things: Windows Hello, Password, PIN, Picture password, Privacy. Nothing about signing in.

Following a tenforums tutorial I pressed Windows key+R and entered netplwiz, I unchecked "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Under that is my computer name and under "Group" is "Administrator". I pressed OK and got "Password for [computer name] and "To change a password, press Cterl-Alt-Del and select change"password. I don't have, want or need a password. I am the sole user and administrator of this machine.

I therefore pressed OK and nothing happens.

I have had no luck with other tenforums tutorial options nor Internet pages offering a solution. I am not keen to fiddle with the Registry - too dangerous for me.

My computer is infected with somekind of malware called cyber defender and another called stopsign software. It really slows down my computer and keeps giving me the Search Settings Change Notification pop-up from the bottom right of the tool bar. Also my top att internet tool bar is missing and all of the different smilies and pictures and symbols are either a tiny red box or a white box with red square, green circle, blue triangle inside. sign in windows live messenger then
click tools>options >general page on the LHS column.
From the top, untick the first box
tick the second box
untick the third box
apply, close and sign outClick to expand...

But the way I look at it is, just uninstall windows live messenger

By the way, if the above fixes it, please let me know

Hi all! Now I always go to battery maintanience to change the charging threshold, which is inconvenient. Is there an easier way? Thanks!

Answer:Is there an easier way to stop X220 from charging when I do not want it to?

You can change the threshold from Power Manager. You may need to update Power Manager.

Lately, when I plug in my Logitech Dual Action Gamepad, instantly (or sometimes after a minute or two), all of my USB ports stop working. This started happening within the last month or so. This problem does not occur on my desktop computer. It only occurs on my laptop.

Here is a screenshot of the device manager when this problem occurs. Slightly, different USB Host Controllers encounter problems depending on which USB port I use. In the device manager it says: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)."

So far I have tried uninstalling the problem devices and then reinstalling them. This caused the problem to occur less frequently (I think), but it hasn't stopped. I also tried shutting down my laptop, unplugging it, and removing the battery for 10 minutes. As a temporary solution I disable the problem devices and then re-enable them. This fixes the problem for anywhere between 2 minutes and a couple hours. I have the "Logitech Gaiming Software" installed on my laptop.

My stats:
Sager NP2098 Laptop
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53 GHz
4.00 GB RAM

What version of the Logitech drivers do you have?

I have found Logitech is very picky, make sure you have the x64 7 drivers, and not Vista or x86.

Also, make sure you have the right motherboard/ chipset drivers for 7, and the latest at that.

All of sudden my laptop started to receive messages like "Plug and Play Service has stopped unexpectedly - your computer must shutdown" and "Power Service has stopped unexpectedly - restarting" and DCOM Process Launcher has unexpectedly stopped - shutting down. Apparently these three services share a SVCHOST process and that is why I get any of the three as the error/failure.

This only appears to happen when I attempt to plug in headphones to the USB port or try to access the "Manage Audio Devices" option in the Control Panel.

A Flashdrive and Wireless mouse receiver plugged in OK to the same USB port. The same headphones do not cause any of the other computers in the house to crash and rstart.

This is a brand new (March purchase) laptop running Windows Home Premium 64 bit.

If I leave the earphones plugged in on reboot the message appears again and restarts again and again. When removed the computer seems to function normally.

I completed the entire process on the Malware Board and they determined that my logs were clean and that I should begin researching a solution on this Board.

Any suggestions on how to start fixing this issue?

Thanks!

My laptop has just started to do this as well. Same thing - plugging in USB headset. There was no problem last week so I'm guessing a Windows update is the root cause.

Hello Everyone,

I am looking for a solution to a problem which started to occur today.

Last night I was prompted by Windows to do some updates, after they had finished my computer shut down normally. When I booted my computer today I was greeted by the BSOD with the following error code:

Stop: c000021a. The initial session process ... terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0xc0000428 0x000106a0).

Windows is unable to repair the problem, I can't boot in safe mode (with or without network, cmd or otherwise) and Windows can't find any recovery points to recover the system to, nor can I boot the computer from the last known working configuration. After some frustration I tried every option from the advanced boot menu, and lo and behold, the computer booted when I booted in disabled driver signature enforcement mode.

The computer seems to work fine in this mode. I ran sigverif.exe and it found one driver that was not signed, a driver used by Daemon tools lite (can't remember the name). The driver was signed, but still my computer wouldn't boot normally, so I tried to remove Daemon tools (hence why I can't remember the name), but the computer still won't boot normally.

Windows keeps telling me that I have three important updates to update, but I can't seem to update them. The updates are KB3067903 and KB3065987, but I have no idea if they are connected to the issue.

I am attaching a screenshot from dxdiag and from the DM log collector, if you need anything... Read more

Hello guys,
I have a DELL XPS M1530, and I have 2 batteries.
last week I decided to try windows 7, and I took the chance and downloaded all the updated drivers, including the BIOS.

Once the computer was working OK, I noticed that my battery level only goes down. it was not charging with the AC power plugged. when the battery was at 0% I thought it was some problem with the battery, So I got my spare one... and happened exactly the same thing.

Now I look at the battery icon on the bottom right, and it says "0% available (Plugged in, not charging)"

do you have any ideia what is going on?

Thanks

I had my Toshiba Laptop stop charging to 80% and it was working fine, but now it doesn't change when I allow it to go below 50% and then set it to eco charge mode in the battery manager, it always go to full charge now, this seemed to have happened after I took out the battery to check on the call back warning on batteries but not sure as there were also updates loaded around that time..
Hope someone can help

recently bought a Dell latitude E6420 i5-2520M 8GB and I am experiencing a very annoying issue with the speakers.
The sound coming from the speakers worked until I plugged in the headphones jack into the computer for the first time - when I unplugged the headphones internal speakers stop to work completely.
What I have tried so far with no success:

Uninstall and reinstall windows audio/sound drivers
Tried Realtek drivers
Disabled headphones
Recovery and reinstall Windows 10

What is strange is that every time I uninstall and reinstall the sound drivers the speakers start to work again until i plug the jack of the headphones and again speakers stop to work. Any Idea?
Please let me know what you need to know about my computer to better understand the problem and I will amend the question accordingly.
Thanks!
