Wireless Connection Problems with a Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

Question: Wireless Connection Problems with a Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

Hi Folks,This is my first post and I hope someone can help me.I recently bought a T61 with the Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN card running on XP.The problem I am having is that I can not stay connected to my wireless network. When I turn on the laptop automatic connection is spotty at best. Once I do get connected, as soon as I open a browser (Firefox or IE) the connection drops and my router freezes. I know the problem is not with the router because it works smoothly with my business Dell Latitude D620 or a very old Thinkpad A31p.I've tried everything I can to rectify the problem (drivers, settings etc.). It's not easy downloading drivers to a flash drive on my wife's desktop and copying it to my laptop. From my research on the internet, it seems a lot of people are having the same issue. Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Wireless Connection Problems with a Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

HiI have the exact same problem. I have read about many others with the same issue. I wish I had an answer for you. There are a couple of things going on. The Lenovo power management wants to turn the wireless off at a whim. Authentication seems to fail for me with WEP turned on (works with other laptops using the same WRT54G). I am running a T61 with Windoze XP. Our work Wireless AP (WAP) has WEP enabled. Wireless will work on the T61 at home with no WEP but not at work. I am thinking about installing linux (running network manager) on the T61 becuase I know it will probably work. I think the troubles are with the Lenovo wireless configuration utility. I am surprised that Lenovo has not fixed such a big problem. It doesn't reflect a quality product.

I am trying to connect to a secured wireless network that uses wpa, AES, mschap2 and authenticates based on the Windows logon.  I don't have the option for this combination in Access Connections.  I uninstalled AC and tried using windows and I get an error message "An unexpected error has occurred" when I select AES and click next.  I've installed the latest drivers both from Lenovo and Intel and nothing helps.  I have no problems with other machines, just this X300.  Any help would be appreciated.  This is my personal machine and I NEED wireless connectivity.

I know the problem is not with my router because my other non-Lenovo computers with Wireless N cards are getting signals much above 54.0MBPS. Is there something I have to enable or do you guys have any ideas? I have all the latest drivers installed.

Answer:Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN not getting above 54.0MBPS

Your router must be 802.11n Draft 2 compliant  and  have dual band support (2.4GHz and 5GHz) to achive 802.11n speed with a fully Draft 2 compliant WiFi card like the Intel 4965AGN. Cheers, Bill

After installing Win7 Prof x64 everything with WiFi was working correctly. Yesterday I wanted to try Vista x64 driver with Connection Utility. In the device manager it shows that device is working corectly but in fact it is not working at all. Uninstalling connection utility didn't help and windows cannot find any driver at the HDD or in windows update.

Any idea what could be done to fix it?

Answer:Problem with Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

Uninstall it totally, restart, and let Windows reinstall it.

Hi,When I purchase T61 and start working on WiFi it was quiet good, real transfers big files around 6MB/s. So it was nice even with WEP2 encryption. Then I update my system through TV and my problem starts. Transfer beneath 1MB/s. So I start messing with drivers and its help for a while. Now I am back to slow connection and I've try every thing I can think about(reinstall sys VISTA  included) On new system I install new drivers from Lenovo and it is not working. It looks like the WiFi link freeze for a while and the starts again an so on like that. I have all parameters on high or aggressive or max performance, it do not help much. Any one some idea? Ah! Type: 7764-CTO S/N: L3-xxxxx OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Driver version: In a nutshell, my WiFi has stopped working overnight; that is, it had been working flawlessly for more than a year, and one day when I woke up it decided to quit. Here's what happens when I turn the radio on now: it will scan for APs as usual, but only report a fraction of the list as it used to - it may not report even the preferred APs, which it had no problems connecting to before - and never make a connection. On some rare occasions, it might be successful at making a connection, but the connection would be reported as limited (i.e. no Internet access) and it would not stay connected for more than a few seconds. 90% of the time the 802.11 radio would try connecting, fail, and power off. Here's what I have tried: I have tried updating to the latest driver, as well as reverting back to the Windows 7 bundled driver. I have tried making connections to several working networks (e.g. friend's home, office, cafes, etc) to rule out my router being the source of the problem. I have also tried running the Ubuntu LiveCD to see if it would work under a different OS. Obviously, nothing has worked. For those who are curious, ethernet connection is working fine. I'm leaning toward it being a hardware failure. Does anyone have other thoughts and perhaps even a solution?

Greetings all! I have a Lenovo X61s that I purchased, and I have decided to upgrade the wireless card in it so that I can use the 802.11n that I have at home. When I installed the new adapter in the Mini-PCIe slot and restarted the device I got an error message saying the the card was not supported and had to be removed.  Per the X61 matrix ( the 4965AGN is supported.  Has anyone else seen this? Regards,TC Labby

Answer:X61s will not accept Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

The BIOS has a whitelist of supported wireless cards. You need a Lenovo branded 4965agn card or else the BIOS will not allow you to boot the computer until you remove the card. The Intel 4965agn wireless card you are looking for is the FRU 42T0865.

I have a "Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN" card installed in my new T61p. Can this card be used in 802.11n mode? The reason I'm asking is because although it seems to have some "advanced" options for "N", it only operates in 802.11g mode at best. My card doesn't connect when I set my wireless router to transmit in 802.11n mode only. Please advise. Thanks. Gary Grathen

I saw the version for my intel wifi link 5100 to be of version 12+ but i understand that the latest driver is version 13. I downloaded the latest firmware from the internet and intel website but after updating/reinstalling, the driver is still version 12+. X61 7675-CTOConfig: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN, Windows XP Pro SP2/3 I had previously piggybacked this problem on a post dealing with the same problem with Vista. I decided to post for XP and make one clear post of problems and solutions attempted. Upon receipt of machine, June 25, 2008. wireless would not connect on startup as it did not get a valid IP address. This required using the wireless interface to disconnect and reconnect. Using "repair" would not always result in a connection. Subsequently connection would drop frequently. Sometimes could be reconnected, sometimes would need to be restarted. Called Lenovo 6/26/2008. Found and installed all updates related to wireless including hot key support (dependency for ThinkVantage), Access Connections, and Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965agn driver. Problems continued. Disabled Access Connections. Machine would then connect on startup but drops continued. Machine is unable to reconnect itself after drop. Removed Access Connections. Drops continued. Installed "Network Magic" which enabled file/printer sharing which was not working previously but had no effect on connection drops. Note that during this time and to present, 1) a Toshiba laptop on the same network maintained wireless connections with no problems, 2) an identical X61 with identical CTO configuration experiences same problems on a completely different network 12 miles away. Progression ... This has been a problem since day one of purchase and I am about to toss this computer in the trash!  Lost many days of production and probably some vital business because of this.  I have performed yet another complete rescue and recovery clean install and performed all windows vista updates as well as lenovo updates.  Every time the computer is moved just a little bit the wireless drops.  If you unplug the power cord the wireless drops.  Even changing power settings under device manager it still drops. I have tried to find the information to reseat the adapter but have come up empty.  With the thousands of posts and blogs all over the internet I would think Lenovo would have fixed this problem.  I am in the process of buying another laptop because this one is very unreliable and I have lost valuable time, business and potential customers because of the down time. I wondered if anyone has swapped wireless adapters with any luck?  If anyone has the schematic to remove/replace/reseat the adapter or a link for that information I would be grateful!  You purchase top end for business with anticipation of few problems.  My old IBM 386 & 486 are still working with no problems!  HELP BEFORE THE SLEDGE HAMMER FALLS! Thanksgrgsr

Answer:Malfunctioning wireless network adapter (Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AG)

I have similar experience too, but malfunction only happens when I am trying to connect to my school network which is WPA2-enterprise or WPA-enterprise. My wireless seems to work fine at home with WPA-personal. All other laptops work fine (so it is my laptop). The signal is fine because it register 100% strength. Basically, mine works for a few minutes, then it starts malfunctioning (school network only). During malfunction, it cannot detect any wireless network (even those that aren't WPA-enterprise). When it can detect wireless network again, it may or may not be able to reconnect to the school network.

i just replaced an old belkin g router with a d-link dir-825 extreme n dual-band router...i managed to get the desktop connected to the internet using a d-link dwa-552 pci adapter (after updating using the atheros version driver, the included software manager/driver on the cd was a pain-in-the-a$$)...

the macbook pro also connects to the router and the does the wii and the ps3...using WPA2 security...

the vaio laptop, with vista business 32-bit and an intel wifi 4965agn adapter will not connect to either the router ( or the internet in a browser window...

i updated the driver to the latest version...

the wireless network shows up, but when i try to connect it says "local access only" the vista diagnostic window it says "can't connect to primary dns server" (

i set up the router with this same laptop using a wired connection and the d-link set-up wizard, and i got an internet connection just won't connect wirelessly...

of course i reset the router and the cable modem (time warner/roadrunner)...

is it an ip address problem? if so, how do i solve it?

thanks for any ideas...

I am new here. I'm not even sure if this question is in the correct forum (I hope so). I have a Toshiba Satellite A305 laptop that I purchased a few months ago. In the last month, the wireless connection has been dropping like mad ! And more recently, when it drops, it says it can't find any wireless networks. I then have to perform a hard shut off (by holding the power button till it powers down) and wait a few minutes to turn it back on. I have uninstalled the wireless adapter and then reinstalled it and that didn't work either. Also, all the drivers are up to date. I am very frustrated at this point and don't know what to do. Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks !!

Answer:Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 problem

It is always a VERY good idea to check the microfilters (if using ADSL) which are fitted into your phone sockets and make certain that you have microfilters in any socket in the house. Microfilters are very cheap to get hold of and its worth having a few spare.

I have an hp pavilion dv6 1355dx win 7 64bit intel core 2 duo. The wifi was working fine with my remembered connections and connected automatically within range. Then it started saying limited connection and would not let me browse the internet. After trouble shooting it said "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection adapter" So I uninstalled reinstalled Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN it was listed under network adapter so I'm assuming that means it is the adapter but I was told it is the driver. Still confused on that. A friend suggested that I delete my remembered connections now it just says no connections available.

Under network adapter properties even tried changing the channel width for band 2.4 thats Value was set 20 MHz only to Auto, as I was instructed by my college IT guy. I've searched for the drivers installed the one on the hp support site. According to my model i have Atheros Wireless LAN Adapter, in the devices supported list nothing that I thought was the adapter or driver was listed. Downloaded the file they said contains the driver for that adapter...didn't seem to do anything other than install. Tried rebooting still nothing. Anyone have any ideas or is it just a lost cause?

Answer:Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN wireless internet won't work

You could try backing up your data and re-loading your system from your backup software or from a restore point from before the start of your problem? That way the network adaptor will have a working driver installed.

I have a Gateway FX series 17" laptop and yesterday when I got home from university and took the computer out of my bag to start working, the wireless card just didnt exist, no networks were recognized and when i tried to troubleshoot it told me that no device was connected. Wired internet works just fine. And the wireless card appears in the device manager.

methods i have tried to no avail:
-turning the wireless switch on and off
-uninstalling the device and rebooting
-updating drivers
-manually downloading driver from Intel's website
-insulting the device's mother

I'm suspecting this might be a hardware issue but if anyone has some advice that would be great. For the time being I am just using a wired connection but I'm going to need the wireless when I'm. back in class

,Thanks guys

My wireless adapter will connect to my network with static ip address set manually but the 'automatically detect settings' option will not work and I receive the message "Unidentified Network" in the task bar.

Any help will be appreciated.

We're in hospital, she's I'll, I am 24/7 carer.

My Vostro 1720 connects promptly at home, WiFi or LAN.

Hospital has public use WiFi provided on each floor. Transmitter has TP-Link on the cover and twin aerials.

The Vostro can see transmitters for 4 floors, the signals come & go and, regularly disappear.

2 iPads & an iPhone stay connected unless, the signal disappears, in the same room. Signals are described as excellent or good.

The Vostro when I bring it in, after using at home, connects automatically. Twice has reached the stage when all 3 links I can see with a decent signal, can't connect, sometimes get asked for the password, run trouble shooter multiple times with no success. First time internet connection worked for 2 days, 2nd time for an hour, then couldn't log on to any link.

I'm puzzled why the Vostro doesn't hold the connection and the IOS devices do.

Public holiday over in a couple of days and I plan to catch the lady chief of the hospital and the IT manager.

I would be most grateful for queries, comments or, references to help in these encounters.

did you download the Lenovo driver, or did you down load the driver from Intel? Lenovo writes alot of their own drivers for things like wifi cards, its possible that by downloading Intel's driver, it isn't compatable with thinkpads.

does your current machine use a abg card?? the 4965 AGN card needs 3 wires, while the abg card use 2 wires.  I will have a look at my machine for you tonight. But unless you have 3 wires i don't think the upgrade would work.

Hey guys, I've been a X61T(tablet) user for over 2 years now and have never had WiFi connection issues, whatsoever. I upgraded to Windows 7 last year and things only got better.  But, today, after uninstalling a program called "Connectify", that basically transforms your laptop into a WiFi hotspot, my Wireless Radio JUST WON'T SWITCH ON! My Wireless Radio switch(that's in front) is on(I pushed it to the right). Up until yesterday, it was working great. I even used my Wireless Network to create a WiFi hotspot using Coonectify. I also deleted it from Connectify because it wasn't working. And then, I just uninstalled Connectify because I didn't see a point in creating a hotspot, when I have a Wireless Router at home. I rebooted my PC and Viola --- WIRELESS RADIO HAS BEEN DEAD! I don't see the green LED for WiFi on the extreme left blinking anymore. Gone!  Went to Device Manager and I didn't see any problems with the Intel WiFi Link 4695 Device driver. I still uninstalled it and downloaded the most recent one. STILL NOT WORKING! I checked the registries to see if I can find any entries from Connectify that may be causing the problem, but Nada! Nothing there as well! I'm feeling pretty downbeat because I got a new Wireless Router yesterday NETGEAR N-150 and not even 24 hours later, I'm back to using ETHERNET cable! I'd really appreciate it if someone can help me out here! Thanks.

I have a laptop with an Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN nic

1) Shows up in Device manager as healthy
2) Has latest driver as per manufacturer (hp elitebook 6930p) running win2008R2 server.
3) keyboard wifi indicator lites up
4) Device shows up as active in networking devices

however, I cannot see any wireless ssid's to associate with.
I checked mfg web site for latest drivers and the intel web set for the adapter itself. After many downloads of win8 and win7 driver bundles (no support for win2008r2 apparently) I have not found a solution yielding a fix. I did stumble across a Intel proset/Wireless wifi software utility manual diagnostic tool v15.6.0.0. When it runs, i get:

"Wireless Hardware is not bound to transport driver"

To be exact:
#Event,Source,Time,Error Severity,Domain,User,Description
1,Manual Diagnostic,04/12/2013 15:57:12,Warning,Unknown,Administrator,Hardware Test
- Result : Failed, Summary : Wireless Hardware is not bound to transport driver

With the same tool i can run it manually on just selecetd tests (hardware, driver, radio, scan, associate, auth, signal, ping)
All of them fail (as expected except the driver test:

To be exact:
#Event,Source,Time,Error Severity,Domain,User,Description
1,Manual Diagnostic,04/12/2013 16:00:07,Warning,Unknown,Administrator,Driver Test
- Result : Passed, Summary : Driver is loaded. NETwNs64 Version :

The driver test passes, just not the link to the transport apparently. Not sure how to fix this.

here's all my specs before i get into the issue:

OS: vista home premium, 32 bit
wireless card: intel 4965AGN
laptop: inspiron 1520
processor: intel core 2 duo CPU T7100 @ 1.60GHz
no recent crashes to cause the problem, and i haven't been using much anti-spyware other than mcafee security center.

allrighty then, i don't know if that's enough information about the hardware or not. here's my problem, as detailed as i can manage:

my wireless seems really inferior to other computers. i'm right now in about the middle of my campus, UT austin, and i get disconnected from the wireless intermittently. just sitting here i've been disconnected 4 or 5 times over the past 40 minutes or so. in my apartment, they have their own isp, namely Airimba wireless. lots of times i won't be able to get onto the wireless (connect to the router). i just spent 35 minutes talking to a dell support technician, and basically he had me delete all my saved network connections and reboot the computer. problem not solved. it has been suggested to me that perhaps this is a hardware problem; the dell technician basically said vista might be causing the flakiness. one of my huge freshman classes is in a theatre, and i see people around me surfing the web, but i can't get a connection. it happens in certain class rooms too, where others get a connection, but the gods don't favor me.

anyway, i can't imagine that this is a server-side problem. everybody would be complaining. so... Read more

Answer:wireless help; vista, intel 4965AGN card, inspiron 1520

Hi andrestable

If you are currently using any flavor of the "ACM" (Arimba Connection Manager) software, I'd recommend uninstalling it.

I'd also recommend uninstalling your current driver for your Intel wireless adapter, and then installing this Vista driver set directly from Dell. It's from mid-November of 2007, only nine weeks ago or so, and might help --- --- follow the setup instructions as prompted. (*Note that the initial installation instructions are on the same webpage as the download*).

Once you have that package installed, test your connections. Should you continue to have difficulty, there is a wireless patch specifically for your model, and specifically for your wireless adapter: ---

I think that the 2nd patch has an excellent chance of helping significantly.

Remember, that when you are setting up your connections, you won't be choosing Ad Hoc, but Infrastructure. Your connections should also be enabled for Mixed modes, as the Arimba device is a 802.11b device, whereas other WiFi on campus is likely to be 802.11g. Your Intel adapter is able to do all four currently available 802.11 modes --- a/b/g/n.

To the networks that you most often connect to, you can set your laptop to automatically detect. Whether you connect using Vista's builtin Wireless utility, or use an Intel tool included in the driver download, you... Read more

I bought an Inspiron 1420 for 640$ shipped or so from Dell last month and now I've been using it at my school campus.

It has a Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini Card and the network says it's 300 Mbps connection here but at times when I'm using the internet, it would be slower than AOL!

I did a speakeasy speed test and got

20k kbps and upload 28 kbps

A few minutes later I did speakeasy test again and got about same but upload speed went to 4kbps.

Inspiron 1420, Intel Core 2 Duo T8300(2.4GHz, 800Mhz, 3M L2 Cache)
NVIDIA (R) GeForce TM Go 8400M GS with 128MB dedicated graphic memory
High Resolution, glossy widescreen 14.1 inch display
4 GB Ram sticks Kingston bought at Frys (memtest 20 hours no errors)
Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini Card

Note: My lil bro is on a 4 yr old laptop and he got upload speed up to 7000kbps...
His download speed burst to 40000kbps and stayed there...
what is going on here?

Answer:Intel 4965AGN Wireless Card Slow? Inspiron 1420

Max speed the card supports != Speed of the wireless network your connected to.

Sounds like the campus network is the limiting factor, not your card. Heck, I would imagine that quite a few people (and maybe a handful of bandwidth hogs) are online at the same time.

And yes, I have the same network card in my laptop though I've only achieved ~130Mbps, which seems normal to me.

edit: Have you tried connecting to any other wireless networks besides your campus?

Recently, I found my Intel 4965agn wireless lan adapter on my T61 laptop automatically disabled after I connected to the public wireless network (no password required) in my university. Sometimes it could work for 3-4 hours, but sometimes it could only survive for few minutes. When the adapter was disabled, I cannot start it in any way except restart my laptop. But this phenomenon never happened in my apartment, where the wireless network has a password requirement.Anybody has the same experience or any solution? Thanks. BTW, My T61 is 7662-CTO. This problem happened on both Vista Ultimate 32x and XP SP3.Message Edited by musicx on 03-02-2009 11:19 AM

Answer:[Problem] Intel Wireless Card 4965agn Disabled for NO reason

Same problem... I've had this issue and reported it many times with no results from Lenovo or IBM. My card is an intel 3945ABG, and the same issue - not  problem on some networks and a disaster at school (many access points and a WPA-Enterprise security). I have taken out access connections and tried the intel pro wireless software.. while it hasn't fixed the problem, it's better. About once a week my card just turns off - disables itself somehow. The light goes out, and it disables itself in the device mangler (red x) but I can't re-enable it, the device manager just crashes. If I flick the Wifi switch, nothing, click enable in the pro wireless software, nothing. I have unchecked the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" everything....  Someone from Lenovo, please give us an answer about this... I think this happens on most computers (all 4 thinkpads in my class have this issues), just rarely enough that no one complains. Is this a firmware issue? a irq issue? What do you need to solve this? whiteatom

I have an R61 ThinkPad with 4 gig RAM, Vista 64, T9300, and the Intel 4965AGN wireless network card. The 4965 can connect to the wireless network (WPA2-AES), browse the web, download files, etc. The problem is the network card dies when attempting to copy large files on the network. The status light blinks, and then about 30 seconds into the copy, the light goes solid and the connection is dead. No repair connection efforts succeed. The only cure is to reboot.I have tried the drivers at the Intel and Lenovo sites. Each has slightly different results, but all result in the 4965 becoming non-responsive. I have completely uninstalled drivers when switching between the different versions. I have tried driver only and driver/software installs with no success. There are 3 other wireless computers on the network that can copy without a problem. The router is an N router. The other computers have G connections. What is the problem? More important, what is the solution? Bad card? (I received the notebook recently, and this has never worked.)

Answer:Intel 4965AGN Wireless Networking Crashing on Large Transfers

kamiller42, welcome to the forum,
I don't have a Vista TP with me at the moment, so you might have to look around a little for the following settings.
It sounds as though this could be a power management problem. If you are using Access Connections you need to ensure that in each profile you have best network performance selected in Wireless Settings / Further Settings.
There are also power management settings in Network Devices and in Device Manager, (advanced properties of adapter), which you should change as well to ensure that Windows cannot reduce power to, or turn the adapter off.

I have had a Linksys BEFW11S4 Version 4 Wireless router for quite some time.  It works like a champ and I have one Laptop wired to it and a second using Wireless working just fine.  Recently, I received a new ThinkPad W500 Laptop with an Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN wireless network adapter.  The older laptop (ThinkPad T60p) that works just fine with the router uses a11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter by Atheros.  However, the NEW laptop (the W500) with the Intel Adapter fails to connect to the Router.  It will either indicate a failure while "Waiting for Association" or it will indicate a failure when waiting to "renew IP Address".  Sometimes, it will show a signal strength close to ZERO (Even as the older laptop with the other adapter is showing a signal strength close to 100%) When I called Linksys support, I was told that the facts that the Router (a) works find with the wired Laptop and (b) works fine with the 11a/b/g NEtwork Adapter and (c) works fine when WIRED to the new laptop all indicate that the problem is NOT with the router at all -- but with the Network Adapter.  Can anyone tell me what has to be adjusted in the Adapter settings?  Right now, I am using IBM Access Connections for BOTH of the wireless laptops.  I have made sure to set IDENTICAL values for SSID and WEP (128-bit) [static] password.  I have also ensured that all OTHER settings are the same for the two laptops.  Yet, in... As many others, I found that my new out of the box T61 was unable to connect to wireless routers.  After some troubleshooting, I found the problem was the power management property for the wireless card was set to low. I have my laptop power settings set to maximum performance both on the battery and when plugged in. Still, every time I reboot or come out of standby, I find I can't connect to the internet and when I go to the device manager and check, I find that the Power Management property is set back to low for my Intel 4965AGN wireless card.  This happens with the "use default value" unchecked and also with it checked.  The transmit power property always stays on high though. So, yes, I can get the wireless working by manually changing this every time I start up or come out of standby, but how do I force the power management property to stay on a high setting and not keep resetting to low?  What other software has the power to keep resetting this value, and can I stop it? I am currently using the Thinkvantage Power Manager, but I have uninstalled the Access Connections software as I found it to be entirely too frustrating for my use.  (perhaps part of that early experienced frustration was due to this power management issue)  I manage my wireless networks using XP network connections.  I've had my laptop for about 4 days now.  I absolutely love it, but this and a few other hardware issues continue to plague... I have Comcast High Speed Internet service and modem and a D-Link Wireless Router WBR 1310. When I first connected the system up through my IBM Netvista computer I was able to get wireless connectivity with my other desktop and my laptop. Shortly thereafter, I was only able to get it on my IBM desktop and the laptop, which was the first unit to be set up with the wireless. Also, no one else who brings a laptop to my house can connect up to it.

Something has created this problem because normally anytime I am around wireless that is not secured nor needs a password, my laptop easily is able to pick up the signal as this is true with my friends' laptops EXCEPT when they are at my house. HELP!

ThinkPad Intel WiFi 5300 Wireless Connection Drop Problem and Solution!!!I have read about Intel WiFi Link 5300 wireless connection drop problems on many different forums, including ThinkPads and many on other computer systems.  In the end, I was able to solve this problem using a simple approach documented below in the SOLUTION DESCRIPTION section. ************PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:- Wireless connectivity works but drops connection after a few minutes, sometimes as quickly as just a few minutes, other times taking as long as 30+ minutes. - The ability to replicate the problem is consistent, in that it always stops working in a relatively short period of time.  However, it is impossible to predict how long before the connection drops, although it usually happens in less than 30 minutes, sometimes even quicker. I received a W700 2 weeks ago, loaded with Windows XP Professional and the Intel WiFi Link 5300, etc. This connection drop problem happened to me while running Win XP SP2 as well as SP3. Note: I've heard that SP3 vs. SP2 matters and I've read some forum entries that indicate rolling back to SP2 fixes the problem.  However, I've seen other evidence/posts that indicate it doesn't make a difference.  Regardless, I am running Win XP Professional SP3.I tried updating to the latest Intel 5300 driver ( alone and the problem did not go away.  I also tried updating multiple drivers via the Lenovo site.  The ... Do you use 2,4 or 5 GHz? You could try to change the channel on your router web-interface (for instance 7 instead of 12). It often helps. I did so, too.

With the signal strength that low your connection will be marginal at best.

Other than adding a better antenna to the router or extending the USB adaptor with a USD extension cord to a better location, I can't think of anything else that will increase the signal strength other than adding an access point.

Hi there,
My Lenovo Thinkpad D530 came with Windows 7, 64 bits and worked without faults for 2 1/2 years.
Some days ago I updated my system to Windows 10, 64 bits.
Since than I got problems with wireless connections. The wireless component build in is the IntelŪ CentrinoŪ Wireless-N 2230. Its installed Intel driver has version from 30-April-2015.
When I start-up my laptop it automatically connects to my wireless router, but when I start-up my browser the wireless connection gets dropped, so that I even cannot connect to a simple page like Google.
Connection via Ethernet / LAN works, but here of course another HW- and SW component is involved.
Any advice welcome !

Hi. When the Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software with the Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility option installed too, it causes a conflict with ThinkVantage Access Connections. Basically if trying to run Access Connections with it installed, AC is unable to detect any wireless networks and a period of disconnection is experienced with trying to "Find Again" in AC. Also, when doing Alt+F5, WiFi will always be shown as "Off" even though it is really connected. One workaround is to deselect "Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility" when installing, but for some users like me, I need the Intel: EAP-TTLS auntentication for work use, which is only available if the utility is installed. It is basically a problem with Access Connection (it is designed well to work with Windows Wireless Service, but Intel Utility is left out), so i hope the engineers can come up with an update to fix this. Thanks!

Question: WiFi Link 4965AGN

I have Computer w/ 3 operating systems on it, Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows 7 RC, and Windows XP Professional. Windows Vista was the original operating system but I downgraded due to software conflicts at the time. I hardly use Vista anymore because its too slow on my laptop, I use Windows XP and Windows 7RC.... ANYHOW....

I have a 7.1 mbps internet connection that I connect through over wireless G. My network card is the Intel? Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN. I have a Linksys WRT54gs2 router with secured WI-FI & mac address. When I connect to the internet using Windows XP OS, I download no faster than 80KB/s on rapidshare, or 150kb/s on the Microsoft server. When I use Windows 7 or Windows Vista, I download at 800kb/s on the same wifi connection. Therefore my questions is: WHY DO I DOWNLOAD SLOWER ON XP? I have my wireless card driver updated on all operated systems.

Hi, I currently connect to the internet through a wired ethernet port in the wall which connects to my university's network.

I want to make this wireless since I bought a new macbook and was wondering if this product would do it?

I don't know much about it but I was concerned because the Router Mode says 'cable connection only' and I'm not sure the connection is cable (is it ADSL?). Will I need anything else like a modem?

Any advice?

Hi guys

I've just bought a D-Link Wireless Router and USB network card and, after loads of messing around, I've managed to connect to the Internet, but now it's really quite slow. I moved the USB card to another port which has increased the speed, but it's still not at the levels it should be (although Windows says I'm getting between 15 and 60 Mbps.

I tried altering so many setting just to get the Internet connected that it's quite possible I have changed something I shouldn't have. Or could it just be the speed of the USB, and if so, how can I improve this?

What kind of information do I need to provide to get some help on this?

Thanks in advance.

My mother recently bought a reconditioned T42 computer, and we are unable to make a connection to her router via wifi.  The computer will connect just fine via an ethernet cable. There are two other ThinkPads in the house (T40 and T61), both of which connect to the router via wifi, and one further computer that can also connect just fine.  This suggests that it is not the router that is causing a problem. I took the T42 to my house and attempted a wireless connection to my router.  There was the same problem there at first, but then I ran the command 'netsh interface ip reset resetlog.txt' as suggested at and after that it worked just fine. Passwords and SSIDs have been double- and triple-checked.  I have tried unencrypting the router and setting it to WPA and WPA2 (though it really needs to be set to WEP as there is a Nintendo DS in the house).  As far as I can see, the T40, T42, and T61 PCs all have exactly the same settings as far as wifi goes.  I really can't work out why the wireless connection will not work here for the T42! After trying to connect, the error message given is: 'Unable to connect to preferred wireless network 'Windows could not connect to any of your preferred wireless networks.  Windows will keep trying to connect.  To see a list of all networks, including others you can connect to, click ... have you tried to reinstall the wireless driver? or updating the driver?
Also are you using the XP wireless connection or the Access connection?
If everything fails, try to reinstall windows from the recovery partition (provided it is still there), press the Acess IBM on the keyboard next to the volume control, during the startup, then select recover to factory condition.
This will wipe the hdd and reinstall the OS from scratch.

I bought a toshiba satellite m45-s2692 on April 2, 2006.
It has an intel pro wireless 2200bg adapter - driver v
I have it connected a netgear wgr614v5 router.
it has a problem maintaining a constant speed. I watched the network monitor on the notebook and it always shows a "connection excellent" however, the speed is not constant - it will vary from 1mbsp to 54 mbsp - but seldom does it maintain the 54 mbsp.

on 4/20/2006, I sent the machine to toshiba - they replaced the network adapter - or so they said, and wiped the hard drive and reinstalled the original software.
I rec'd the machine back and find that the problem has not changed - it still will not maintain a steady speed so viewing files on other pcs on the lan takes forever and page loads on the net can also occupy too much time.

I have an older toshiba satellite with a netgear wireless wg511t adapter.
I have watched the monitor on that one and it will show connection excellent and maintains a steady speed of 54 mbsp. these two machines can be sitting side by side or in separate rooms and still the old one will maintain it's connection and speed but the new will not maintain the speed.

I called toshiba up again, and they want to say it's my router. I explained to them that another toshiba on the same network does not faulter -- so how can it be the router?
they didn't want to, but they are "granting" me service to send the machine back to them again. I haven't... Read more

I saw some people having trouble with extremely slow wireless connections using an Intel Centrino Wireless n-1030 card. The original thread is closed, so the problem may already be solved, but if anyone is still experiencing this problem, here is what worked for me:

This NIC is a dual band card (802.11 + bluetooth), and with some routers having the bluetooth enabled really slowed down the 802.11n connection (it didn't seem to happen with my netgear router, but when I switched to linksys, WHAMMO!).

Anyway, when I disabled the Bluetooth adapter in Device Manager the problem was completely solved (uhhhh except I need to use a dongle to make my bluetooth mouse work now... small price to pay IMO)

Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience. Hope it can help someone.

Hi,I have a similar problem with my x200Tablet, 4GB, Win7Ent-x64, and the solution might not be that simple... My Intel 5300 Wireless will not work, and I have now tried a lotProblem:- After a fresh installation everything worked well, also the WLAN-card, but a later update with SystemUpdate4, complete, the Intel WLAN could not connect- Since this was in the middle of sw-installation (like Office2010x32), with LAN,  I cannot precisely pinpoint where/what made it fail - In (windows) ManageWirelessNetwork there is nothing, A "add" just give "An unexpected error occurred"- In Lenovo Access Connections - Manage Wireless Radio (also Fn+F5)-  it shows WLAN with Status "Off", any use of button for "On"; Nothing happens (it stays "Off") (any use of other buttons responds at once)- In Lenovo Access Connection program, it shows WIFI, but nothing is discovered, A test of a profile with WLAN ends with "Connection Failed" , in Test or "Help fix..", it reports error code 016, or eroor code 65537, "Association failed - wireless radio not powerd on"- In IntelProSet Dignostics Tool fails at HW Test, with "The wireless adapter is disabled or uninstalled. Se Windows Help"  , but within Lenovo HW test, card and PCI ok, but Network Link Layer fails Yes, I have:- Checked Win System Logs, HW logs, just some "Wlan Autoconfig stopped", no serious errors, I think?- Checked DevMgr, (enabled) it`s ok- Checked for Viruses, worms+ - Radio ... Two day ago I used ThinkVantage SYstem Update and installed Intel Wifi link driver (ver 13.01.1000). But since then my computer was randomly cut off internet connection, and the wireless signal strength icon on the system tray indicated no nearby wireless network. And then it powered off the wireless connection. Whatever I do, I cannot re-power on the wireless (I used Access Connection to power on the 802.11 wireless radio, but it could not be turned on and nothing happened) unless I restart the computer. I thought it might be the router that malfunctioned as this problem never happened before. But after I checked the router and used another notebook to test wireless connection, I was sure the router ran very well. Then I re-installed the TVT Access Connection (ver 5.61) and the Intel WIFI Link Driver (ver 13.01.1000) but the problem remained. Could anybody give a possible solution?  I also noticed on Lenovo's website, the Intel wireless card driver for T61 is v13.00.0000 Windows Vista 23 Oct 2009. It's lower than what I have now. Could that be the cause? My ThinkPad T61 has the following configuration:Model: T61 8897CTOOS: WinVista Home Basic SP2 32bitLanguage: ENWireless Card: Intel 3945 ABGWireless Card Driver: (previous one was Access Connection: 5.61

Answer:New Intel WIFI Link Driver Randomly cut off Internet Connection

Hi carlven,Anytime when wireless driver is updated, Access Connections also needs to be reistalled.Do this, first uninstall your wireless driver and access connections, thereafter reboot your system. Then install wireless driver first, again reboot, subsequently install access connections, reboot again. When installing any lenovo driver manually, keep in mind they first extract themselves to a default location in C:\Drivers..., second .exe setup must be run from that location to successfully install the drivers.Hope it helps.

Hello everyone, Just received my new Thinkpad X210 series laptop computer, and it was supposed to have the Intel Wi-Fi link 6200N AGN, and also WWAN ready, with Bluetooth. However, when I open up Device manager, I do not see this adapter under Network Adapters, as I only see the Bluetooth Adapter. I also cannot connect to my wireless router, nor does it see any wireless connections, as I am using it right now on another computer. Can someone please tell me if this feature has to be "turned on", or what? Also, when I try to diagnose my internet connection problem, there is no option for wireless connection. I do see a symbol that is lit on my screen, or right below the actual screen that shows the bluetooth symbol, and if I move the switch that is on the left forward side, it will turn the bluetooth off and on. I can't believe this doesn't have the Wi-Fi link card installed. Is there something I have to do to enable this, or to at least let it show up in the device manager? I also turned off the bluetooth switch, and if turned off, it too does not show up in device manager. So before I hoot and yell at someone who sold me this, I better find out if there is a turn on switch for this wi-fi adapter to activate. Any help will definitely be appreciated, or I will have to wait another day to call tech support on this issue. Many thanks and I look forward to reading to staying on top of things by reading everyone's remarks on this forum.

I have a T61 running XP with the Intel 4965AGN WiFi adapter.  I am connecting to an AirLink 101 300N router configured as WPA2 PSK with AES encription to support 300 Mbps connections.  My wife's desktop connects at 300Mbps using an AirLink 101 300N USB adapter, and my old T21 connects at 300Mbps using and Airlink 101 300N cardbus adapter.  The Intel adapter doc implies it should work at 300Mbps, but connects at 150Mbps. I have looked at the driver parameters and installed the latest Intel drivers from the Lenovo site.  Any suggestions on what I can do to get the Intel 4965AGN to connect at 300Mbps.

Answer:Connection speed on Intel 4965AGN

eghuff wrote: I am connecting to an AirLink 101 300N router . Your Airlink operates only in the 2.4~2.5GHz WiFi band.  A fully 802.11n Draft 2 compliant device, like the Intel 4965AGN, will only connect at ~270Mps for devices which support operation in the 5GHz WiFi band. When running in the 2.4~2.5GHz WiFi band they will only connect at ~130Mbps. If you want to achieve ~270Mbps connections with fully 802.11n Draft 2 compliant devices you need a router which supports 5Ghz band operation, or supports dual band operation in both 2.4Ghz and 5GHz WiFi bands. Running 40Mhz bonded channels in the 2.4~2.5GHz WiFi band to achieve ~270Mbps operation is generally problematic and it is prone to have mutual interference with 802.11b/g WiFi traffic in the vicinity.  Cheers, Bill

Hi everyone!

I've recently did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate onto my Toshiba Satellite U400 laptop. For the most part I was online with a wired connection, and when I finally went to wireless, I started getting BSODs.

This SAME behaviour happened to me when I had Vista Home Premium SP2 installed before hand. I tried Ubuntu linux for a while and the wifi worked fine! (so maybe not a hardware issue? but a driver issue?)

I can make the BSOD repeatedly when flipping through picture albums on facebook for example. I have attached the debugging files in the hopes that someone with more technical knowledge can help me. I look forward to solving this problem once and for is very frustrating

Answer:[SOLVED] Windows 7 Ultimate BSOD when on Wifi (Intel 4965agn)

Hi -

I am finding 2 basic bugchecks in the dumps submitted -

0x9f - a driver is in an inconsistent power state
0x19 - bad pool header - the pool was already corrupted when the caller arrived

Ironically, both Intel wifi and your Ethernet drivers were named as the probable causes; I believe the Toshiba driver and webcam driver may be the real culprit(s) here -

TVALZ_O.SYS Thu Nov 08 19:07:46 2007 (4733CF02) - Toshiba
UVCFTR_S.SYS Thu Jun 26 01:25:19 2008 (4863526F) - Webcam driver

yk62x86.sys Mon Feb 23 06:44:18 2009 (49A2B642) - Marvel Yukon Ethernet
netw5v32.sys Thu Mar 26 09:10:37 2009 (49CBA8FD) - Intel wifi 5100/4965/39xx

The Marvel Yukon & Intel wifi drivers look fine to me. I suggest that you go after the Toshiba driver 1st, then the webcam driver -- check Toshiba for updates. If none, you'll have to disable the services related to them/ un-install the devices. The 1st w/ 2007 timestamp has caused problems in Vista and would most certainly do the same in Windows 7.

Regards. . .

My x201 laptop just started having serious wireless problems. It would, in the past, lose the connection to the router or not see any available networks, but a reboot would fix this. Now, however, it will connect to the network but the connection is dropping packets. It would time out, and I can't do anything. Other devices connect fine without issue, so the router is not the problem. I have all the latest drivers and updates, and this happened out of nowhere. Any ideas? Do I need to replace the wireless card? This is horrible timing for me since I need my laptop to work on some time critical things. Thanks for the help in advance. PS. Very disappointed in the x201. My second "Thinkpad" laptop, but fraught with problems. I've also had the "Random shutdown" problem.

I am having similar difficulties, perhaps related?  I have a Lenovo G560 with wi-fi driver intel wi-fi link 1000 bgn.  The issue I have is with connection to my home network only.  This machine will successfully connect to other wireless networks, both public and secured (I provide a key).  I have tested as following:
I successfully connected to wireless network at work, McDonalds, Tim Horton's, etc.
I shut the machiee down, took it home and restarted at home.  I checked the wireless connections, and found my home network, 4 bars strength, and shows connected and internet active.  I launched IE and successfully connected to the internet.
Then, I connected the ethernet cable and our LAN hard-wired connection shows as connected, as well as the wireless network (they show up as two different network names), both connected.  I tested internet access and was successful.
I then disconnected the ethernet cable, again check the network connections, see my network listed and showing connected.  HOWEVER, now although the network says connected and with internet access, I am no longer able to connect to any websites, gives 'cannot display web page'.  Restarting the machine does not seem to correct the issue.

Hello! Something of a frustrating problem here: I use a Lenovo Y560 laptop with an Intel Wifi Link 1000 BGN network adapter.  I've typicallyhad little problems connecting to wireless access points until two weeks ago. After a bit oftrial and error I realized that, though the adapter detects all the networks it used to at the samesignal strengths, it's unable to connect to anything that's basically not at full signal strength (prettymuch beside the computer). I've tried re-installing the manufacturer's drivers, installing Intel's drivers(which for some reason cause the adapter to be shown as an Intel Centrino-N wireless adapter ratherthan an Intel Wifi Link 1000), disabling 802.11n mode, disabling the "Allow computer to turn off thisdevice to save power", ensuring that transmit power is at the highest, roaming is at medium, switchedthrough channels... nothing. Performance is exactly the same, basically bouncing off access points withfour bars or less of signal strength. I've tested this on APs with Open, WEP, and WPA2 security, reset routers, etc. Verified the actual adapter, seemed well connected, cables were in place. Any ideas, because it's driving mea little bit nuts how though the networks are detected, connection's not possible. Thanks!

We have fairly new HP DV7T laptops, with the internal Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN card..

We have been through 3 access points at this point, i just now confirmed that i dont think our issue is access point related, at least not the type etc...

Frequently these laptops will suddenly not find ANY networks (wireless ones) to connect to..

Other laptops (dell, asus, iphones) still work fine during these periods.

I've tried playing with configuration settings on the nic itself with no luck.

Currently we have a Dlink Dap-2553 access point.. set to the 2.4ghz mode (since we still have devices that need 2.4ghz)..

I'm not sure what to do to prevent this from happening, short of using express cards, which we dont want to do..

Anyone else ran into this?

HelloJust picked up Trendnet N router supposedly capable of 300mbps. its N card, I am seeing speeds above 200s.On my X61s with 4965, the most I am seeing is 130 which I guess makes sense since my router is not 5ghz. However, I can't even seem to maintain 130. It often drops back down to 50s. Hi, I have an X61 with Vista Business 32bits and the Wireless card (Intel Wifi 4965AGN) does not work anymore. Here is the chronology of events: - A few days ago I realized that the Fn+F5 hot key was not working.- I tried to solve this problem by uninstalling the Intel wifi driver and reinstalling.- Uninstall was OK. When I restarted the computer, the system automatically detected the Wifi card as new hardware and tried to install the driver, but I got an error message "Unable to open the driver specific registry key for this device".- I have tried to uninstall and install the driver several times but I have been unable to fix the problem.- I have downloaded the latest driver from the Intel and Lenovo websites but the problem persists.- When I access the device manager there is an exclamation point on the Wifi4965AGN. If i try to update driver it returns a message saying thatthe driver is up to date.- I have tried to recover the system from the last backup point but when the system restarts it says that there was an undetermined error in the recovery and that it didn't happen. It seems like there is something wrong in my Windows registry but I don't know enough to solve it. It doesn't seem like a big problem because I actually created it by trying to fix the Fn+F5 problem so I should be able to solve it! Any ideas before I reinstall Windows?

Answer:X61 Vista32: Cannot install driver for Intel Wifi 4965AGN (unable to open registry key)

You may want to check the following again just to be sure everything was done 1) Make sure the correct driver for Intel Wifi 4965 AGN is installed (Do you have XP or Vista?)2) Use System Restore (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Systems Tools -> System Restore) to rollback your settings to an earlier calendar date prior to the  time the issue has occurred. Were you trying to restore using Microsoft's System Restore, or using the Rescue and Recovery tool? If this fails, you may need to reload Windows.Power off, then power on and tap F11 repeately to access Rescue and Recovery from our recovery partition.  Hope this helps, Mark

Hi, I live in Thailand and have a similar problem as others with my Intel Wireless AGN connection as others.  I have a D-Link Model DSL-2740B Rangebooster N ADSL2/2+ Modem Router. It is supposed to support 802.11n draft wireless connections of up to a maximum of 270 MBPS versus 54 MBPS for 802-11G wireless. Of course, I don't expect it to reach the maximum transfer speed, particularly here in Thaiand, however I would expect it to produce results better than the 54 MBPS rate for 802-11G. I first tried it on my ThinkPad T61 which incorporates IntelŪ Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN. When connected, it shows a speed of 54MBPS (802-11G) instead of higher wireless 802-11n speeds. I've upgraded my router to the latest firmware and have tried different configurations with no improvement in performance. One think I have noted is that when I make an on-line configuration change to my router configuration then select "apply", immediately my ThinkPad rate changes to 150 MBPS momentarily then my connection is lost (to be expected as the router changes are being implemented), followed by reconnection of wireless signal only to return at 54 MBPS again. I also have an older ThinkPad model without built-in wireless capability so I purchased a Belkin wireless 802.11n USB adapter to connect to my router. Again, the maximum connection is at 54 MBPS. When I repeat configuration changes to my router as I did above, my ThinkPad connection momentarily changes to only 1 MBPS instead of 150 MBPS as i... Read more

Answer:Problems connecting on Wireless 802.11n with my T61 with Intel Wireless AGN

I just configured same model of modem router DSL-2740B, although I am using different laptop Acer TM4720, my experienced is same exactly like yours. I think the problem is this router DSL-2740B, it promises connection upto 270mbps but actually it doesnt in all type of adapter. Because I also configured Linksys WAG160N modem router, I was able to connect at 130mbps and this transmission rate does not drop, and I tried using same brand Linksys USB Wireless N Adapater I was able to connect at 270mpbs, but on top of that, the worst thing is that this Linksys WAG160N keep disconnecting from internet connection randomly every minutes, hours, day. So I returned to vendor and got this DSL-2740B as replacement. For this DSL-2740B, I think we can achieve better speed if we use also a same brand DLink Wireless N Adapter. But there is no assurance.

Hi there, Iīve got serious trouble with my SL510  28477MG. According to the Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox itīs activated, but it doesnīt pass the diagnose test of the Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Framework. The first test does already fail with the message, the adapter to be not activated or not installed. Also using the key-combination Fn+F5 there only appears the Bluetooth-Adapter, but no WLAN. Iīve tried to install the Access Connections, but it fails as the OS (Windows Server 2008 R2) seems not to be supported. If I try to connect to a WLAN-AccessPoint it fails as it doesnīt find any. So, my question is: What am I doing wrong? How can I localize the problem? Anyone else having that problem? Thanks a lot.  Greetings

I've recently upgraded my internet provider to BT and received a BT Home Hub 3 as the new wireless router. Previous to this I was using a wireless Belkin G + MIMO ADSL router (model number F5D9630-4).

There are places in the house where the wireless signal is very poor. Connecting to the internet using either of these routers is difficult in these spots. However, since the Belkin is now spare, I've been thinking about trying to use it as a low cost repeater (i.e. free) to extend the wireless range in the house.

There are several good articles that I've found on this site which address the connection of two routers together (e.g. John Will's article on connecting two SOHO routers is a good example), but they rely on an ethernet connection between the two routers. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a way to establish a wireless link between the two routers to extend the range of the current wireless network.

Cheers everyone, and thanks in advance.

which windows do you have & ISP.Was there a possibilty that the ISP was down or is it an ongoing problem. Perosnally I would check server status for your ISP by calling them to make sure they arn't having problems.Check for viruses, run windows update and call back for more if still having problems

NOTE:  This is a repost, under an equally accurate subject heading, of a previous post that didn't attract any replies:  I have an R61 (8918-CTO) with an Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN adapter.  I run Windows XP Pro SP3. After doing my best to ensure that that the extensive list of prerequisites was met, I tried to install the following Intel Wireless LAN update: Intel Wireless LAN (abgn, abg, bg) for Windows XP - ThinkPad 12.04.0000Release Date: 2009/04/06Update Package Filename: 6hwc05ww.exe I selected a "Custom" install and added the Intel Wireless PROSet component and its subcomponents to the components already selected in the "Typical" install.  (The instructions said to preselect Intel Wireless PROSet if I use Access Connections, which I do.) I got the following error message partway through the install routine: Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software Error 1334. The file '' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file ''. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package. The install routine then told me that installation was canceled and my software was not modified.  However, My WiFi connectivity was gone; the Access Connections and Wireless Radio (fn+F5) utilities took around a half-hour to load after being st... Hi, I have an Intel wireless adaptor.  I keep getting disconnected from Wifi.  When I reconnect, it never remembers my wifi password.  I had this problem previously but upgrading to windows 8.1 last year solved it.  I have tried all of the fixes for the broadcom wireless adaptor but they don't work including updating drivers, changing b/g settings, changing "allow power manager to turn off this device" etc.  When I try to download the most up to date version of the Intel driver from your website, it tells me it is pre-installed with windows 8.  Please help.  I have spend 6 hours trying to fix this.

I have a dlink dwl - 122 wireless usb adapter, a pc with windows xp2 and a netopia wg3347 wireless modem and I have installed the drivers for the adapter and installed the adapter and I successfully got the wireless connection to work. However it is not consistent. I started up the machine the next day and the wireless connection did not work, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and installed the usb adapter and it all worked find again. Then I started up the machine a few days later and the same thing happened again. So this time I just reverted back to a wired connection, but I would like to go wireless again. I do not know why it keeps happening. Does anyone have any ideas.
Please let me know

Hello Everybody,

I am a macintosh user connected to my d-link router via ethernet. I have an IBM thinkpad laptop running XP, my sister has a toshiba laptop running XP, both connect to the internet wirelessly, with no problems.

My older brother got a new hp laptop with vista installed, it looks beautiful and slick, of course windows problems will always be there no matter what. Its a very wierd problem.
He lives upstairs. Any how, his computer would sometimes connect to my wireless router, and some other times its not even there. Its none responsive. We are not looking to create a network just connect to the internet wirelessly. Both different laptops with XP work well, except for this new HP vista. The wierd thing is no matter how close u get to the router, it wont connect, it has no effect. And going further or closer there will always have a "3 out of 5" signal power showing on the laptop. the laptop running on battery.
Would you have any idea what kind of problem this is, and why its happening?
this is my modem:

i believe my brother's computer is one of these:

I set up my other desktop computer on wireless connection. For some reason, its not finding any wireless networks, including my main computer network.

I get the following error under WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION STATUS:
Limited or no connectivity: You may not be able to access the internet or some network resources. This problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer.

Clicking on 'Repair' does not help either.

Recently I noticed how my antivir and malware software had some detections when I last scanned today. Maybe i have a virus??

I did a HijackThis scan...below:

Hi, Like many, I also have an X61s, XP Pro- all MS updates installed.  I have downloaded the latest 2009 drivers from the Intel site with the connection application too.  I have unchecked the power management control over the wireless too. Despite using the Thinkpad update tool- updating BIOS, uninstalling the Thinkpad connections software etc I keep dropping the wireless connection.  Other laptops and PC's on the same router are working fine- all running XP Pro and standard drivers. The issue is worse when I use on the battery rather than mains.  Even with mains though, as soon as it has disconnected once, that is it- it keeps dropping in and out. The Intel task bar application shows that a network is available and the signal strength is good- it just looks like the wireless card has vanished. Please Lenovo- get us a fix for what is a great little machine if it wasn't for this silly problem!  Why do we have to install another (free!) operating system just to use wireless!!

Answer:X61s wireless dropping out - yet another - 4965AGN

andythechief wrote:  The issue is worse when I use on the battery rather than mains. Make sure you have all the Power Management and Access Connections settings related to WiFi set to maximum performance (minimum power saving) settings. Cheers, Bill

Anyone else having issues connecting to "N ONLY" base stations with there 4965AGN wireless card in their thinkpad T60 or T61? Mine connects like 20% of the time to my Linksys N base station. The rest of the time it says incompatible network type. This only happens when my base station is set to "N ONLY" wireless network. If I set to B/G/N it has no issues. It's like the Intel wirelss is someone incompatible with the LINKSYS N base station although Intel says Linksys is a verified vendor.

Isssue: certain areas of 2nd floor three story building might as well be dead zones for this adapter. British Telecom and Cisco have been there to address any environmental concerns. Both have made their adjustments to no avail. The adapter dies in this area and will not find AP eventhough I'm directly underneath. I have tried all adjustments (power management, roaming agressiveness, b and g only, g only etc., radio transmit power) nothing works. I use custom build or IBM Preload with Access Conn with newest drivers but still get same results. Netstumbler logs sent out and response was 4965 detects twice as many APs as 3945ABG and therefore more sensitive to signals. Issue has been escalated to Intel/Lenovo/IBM but in the meantime the solution is to switch to the 3945ABG (works like a charm compared to 4965 series) Anyone else in the universe have any similar experiences???

What did they find in terms of environmental concerns, and what adjustments did they make?
Also what wireless access point are you using?

Suddenly the wireless stopped working. The connection works on other computers, and the drivers seem to be updated.
When I try to click on the wireless console bar icon called "wireless console 2", I see all the options which usually worked to switch between only wifi enabled, only bluetooth, both or neither, and that its now set to "wireless LAN and bluetooth disabled" but I canīt change it, it just appears for a second and dissapears. Also the keyboard shortcut Fn plus F2 which used to work is not.
I tried system restore to the day before and it didnīt make any difference. Then I tried to restore it to 5 days before and it doesnīt let me.
On the diagnose for windows network it says something like: "the wireless functionality is disabled on this computer". Then when I click on diagnose also on the menu of Intel wireless, itīs saying "Wireless hardware is not bound to transport driver".

On the devices administrator, under "net adapters" I had some isatap.ename and another one which were with the yellow "!" sign, and then they dissapeared, maybe because I did a scan for unused, uninstalled drivers. Now I have only Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN and Marvell Yukon 88E8055 PCI-E Gigabit Controller.

I had scanned for viruses just a few days before this happened and I had no major stuff. Then now I scanned with Malwarebytes and I only had to remove some tracking cookies. Then Avast scan got only to 95 per cent and ... Read more

I have an HP Envy 34 AIO and had the same thing happen. I tried to roll back the drivers, but to no avail. I also did a system restore to gain back connectivity, but the updates kept coming. Ultimately, I had to use an Ethernet cable to get connected. Hopefully another update will come out soon to re-enable the Wi-Fi adapter.

Upgrading Intel wireless driver on Intel AC-3165 to causes wifi to fail and cannot find any access points within range. The upgrade adds a 'new' device to device manager called 'Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter'. This new device has a yellow exclamation next to it. Uninstaling the new device does not resolve the issue. Only rolling back the driver to or recovers wifi connectivity. Can someone please explain how to troubleshoot this? Thanks.

Hi, my old wifi card was  stolen in Thiland ( I order new one in official service. They install it and now I can see it in Win10 system devices, but it doesn't see any wifi networks. I've tried to install/upgrade different drivers, but nothing change. After 2 days I bought one more PCI 7620-ac this time. But nothing new with this one. I have two systems installed Win10 and Ubuntu 16.04 In last one I can also see that PCI card is installed, but there is no network interface for this wifi card. Can anybody advise me what to do? ( Officials say to reinstall Windows)))
