Preferred Solution: Blue Screen and data lost after rescue n recovery during F11 operation

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My SL410 was infected by virus (i guess) and turned into blue screen. The blue screen indicated the laptop was dumping the physical memory and then restarted. Hence, after rebooted I could only access to the very first screen with Thinkpad logo , Win 7 logo, then back to the blue screen. No way to get into Win 7 save mode and no response on the blue recovery button. I used my Rescue & Recovery CD that i created a couple month before and was able to save all my data... but when i wanted to restore my laptop back to a previous state/year . it only completed step 1 of 2, but after rebooting went back to the blue screen... so step 2 was not able to begin... am i doing something wrong ? i do not understand why step 2 is not going through

I recently had my computer crash, I suspect it was to do with a virus as I'd been using Limewire earlier that day. Anyway, I now can't start up the computer, upon powering on I'll get to the screen asking me to choose between the options, Start windows normally, start with previous settings that worked and start with safe mode.  I've tried starting with all three of them but each just leads me onto the loading screen where it will attempt to load for about twenty seconds then flash up a blue screen  for a second and restart itself. I tried to access rescue and recovery to see if I could fix the issue but it just fails to load at the introduction screen with the life belt. Does anyone know of anyway I could fix this?

Answer:Blue Screen at Start up, can't access rescue and recovery.

Hi,welcome to the forums Just a thought, you also get an option called "directory restore services mode" when you press F8 during startup,it worked out for me most of the times when i get a BSOD,check out that option.

Good morning - I unfortunately had to use the IBM Rescue and Recovery feature to restore my factory settings.  However, now my computer is giving me a blue screen error during the startup process.  Unfortunately it is not on the screen long enough for me to get too much information from it, but I have been able to get win22n51.sys as being some sort of error message.  If I start the computer in safe mode it will load without the error.  If I use the safe mode plus networking it gives the error.  So I'm assuming it has something to do with the network drivers? I would appreciate any ideas you all have for resolving/further diagnosing this problem. Thank you!

Hello, Perhaps this Lenovo knowledgebase article, "XP Crash: System may hang or restart with a previous version of the Intel PRO 2200BG Mini PCI adapte..." will be of help to you in resolving the problem? Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

Hi there people. First post so sorry if it's in the wrong place or anything. I've had as much of a search as I can and haven't found anyone with quite the same situation as me. The questions come at the end of the rambling background to my problem!!! Hope you can make it through to the end! My E520 recently just went beyond it's warranty and surprise surprise fairly soon after that I got a warning through ThinkVantage that there was a problem with my internal hard drive. When I googled the problem it said that the hard drive was going to fail and to replace it immediately.  As I (like an idiot) hadn't got round to backing up my computer properly (I'd saved all music, photos and videos to a seperate hard drive but hadn't done a Rescue and Recovery or Windows back up) I went out and bought a seperate hard drive to back up the computer and some disks to create the recovery boot disks.  When I went to the Q drive to do this I misunderstood the question about do I want to create a data back up disk. I thought this meant all my media so I said no and created just the boot recovery disks.  So my question (told you I'd get there) is this. When I replace the internal hard drive and use the boot disks to install windows will I then be able to use the Lenovo Rescue and Recovery to restore my computer to it's former glory? Or will the fact that I'm not restoring the Lenovo skin (sorry if my terminology is wrong here. Not sure what to call it) ... Read more

I installed Ubuntu GNU/Linux in my 3000 N100 0768GZQ laptop and deleted the partition in which i had installed Vista using fdisk. However, fdisk also deleted the Lenovo rescue and recovery partition. Not realizing this i created 2 new partitions in the free space. Now I want to install Vista in one of these partitions and I don't have a Lenovo Rescue and Recovery drive or the recovery CDs. Please help me.

Answer:Lost Lenovo Rescue and recovery partition in 3000 N100 0768GZQ have no recovery disks, please help

You can either get a hold of Vista installation disks and install it manually, or call Lenovo support and ask for recovery disks. They may charge you for the disks as you are supposed to create your own recovery disks.

I have encountered a serious problem accessing my hard drive and booting up Windows XP. I am running windows XP on a Dell 8400 dimension workstation. I am getting the infamous blue screen of death with the error message 0x0000007B. I suspect that I am a victim of a virus . As suggested I ran a repair from a Windows CD recovery disk and it seemed to run okay and indicated that everything was fine however when I rebooted I still received the same old blue screen. . Help Mode is of no help as the options all lead me back to the blue screen. Therefore I tried something different.I booted up from the Windows Recovery CD and when prompted hit the letter R on the first screen which placed me into a C:\windows prompt. From there I was able to go to the root directory and I was able to list the folders that have my data in them. However when I attempted to open these folders I received an error message of "Access is denied" and could go no further. I checked the attributes on these directories and they are only showing an attribute of d=directory. I tried different things with the attrib command to see if I could get around the access problem but to no avail.I ran a chkdsk /p and it came back indicating that there were no problems. I am running out of options and am quickly reaching the point where I am considering doing a complete reinstall of windows, however I don't want to lose my data. Can anyone suggest how I might be able to access my data files and skirt ar... Read more

I had Rescue and Recovery going on a N100-0768 laptop using Vista Business.  Recently that laptop was stolen.  I've purchased a G550 with W7Pro.  Now I cannot install Rescue and Recovery 4.3 for W7 because apparently this G550 isn't in the list of supported Lenovo systems.  I need the critical data I've backed up - how do I access that data? Thanks so much in advance. I do miss the N100 - it was a great laptop!    - James Head

Answer:Rescue and Recovery - Need to restore data

Have the same problem myself, there is no available download for OneKey Recovery for WIn 7 64bit. I had the 32Bit RC Build 7100 installed previously and used the Vista version and it worked OK before, no such luck with the 64bit version. I'm irritated right now as I also need to back-up critical data, I'm using the Window back-up and Win Rescue disk but  it defeats the purpose of having the OneKey Recovery Key.

Just sharing this.
I made another boo-boo today and deleted 500GB worth of media files (just movies and music). Don't ask me how because that's something nobody wants to do.

I don't keep a backup of these files. For me these are disposable files. But it would be nice if there's a way to get them back easily. And luckily, there is.

This is the 3rd time this software has saved me. The MiniTool Power Data recovery. The first one was accidental deletion of an entire partition. The second time was also accidental deletion of big files. Accidental=stupidity for me. But hey, things happen whether you like it or not.

Today I am not recovering a partition but rather "undeleting the 500GB+ of files"..

It will take probably a few hours before this process gets done.
So, to avoid stressing out the hard drive (Seagate 2TB external drive) due to heat, I placed 4 USB fans around it.

To those who are accidentally wiping out their hard drives while testing out Win 10 TP, there is a simple solution and I highly recommend this software. The good thing about this recovery software unlike other software, you can get your files back in the same organized manner you lost them with original filenames and folder tree intact. And the best thing is, I got this software FREE from a Giveaway!

Cheers!

Answer:MiniTool Power Data Recovery to the rescue!!!

I hope they all get recovered for you. Good job with the fans.

Hello, I have a problem with my backup and I have no more ideas how to retrieve my data from that backup:I use an external hard disk to backup my system and my system crashed last month. I took the opportunity and did some changes to my new system: I switched from 32bit to 64bit Windows 7 and instead of using two partitions I now only use one drive.I then tried to restore my data from my backup but I could not find my two previous partitions - only one (the system drive C:\). But the data I really want is on the second drive and it is actually there: If I search the external disk, I find the folder "D" with all that "data"-files. If I switch the name of these previous drives I alse get the file-tree displayed in R&R but I cannot restore the data. I guess it's because the files' paths are written in that TOCFILE and if I change the root...I then tried to use a symlink but my external disk does not support it, so I tried to copy the data to my hard disk but R&R did not even show that backup (don't know what I have to do to make R&R do so: I tried to put it in the folder where R&R creates all the backups, that is RRbackups).  I also tried to restore my whole previous system but it can only restore one drive (again the old C-drive) and gives me an error: "one or more partitions could not be restored because the partition does not exist". So it seems as if some reference to a path or the like might be broken? Perhaps you know how to unpack these... Read more

I had to restore my system back to Factory state, prior to that I had the Rescue and Recovery option under Programs ThinkVantage menu, I also had the "Backup Now" option under the productivity center. After restoring to factory state I lost the Rescue and Recovery and the backup option.   I  would like to create a Recovery CD/DVD but now I cannot, I do not have the ability to do so, that is an option under the Rescue and Recovery Menu!.   - I am running Vista Business and my Thinkpad is a T60P  - Help  :-) Thank you LIliam

Answer:Rescue and Recovery Lost after Factory Restore

I think I have a similar issue, although I did not do a factory restore. I bought my T61 running Vista Home Premium this summer, and within a couple of months, the second entry under the Productivity Center's Quick Links is blank (actually, there is a bullet point with a few stray pixels just to its left). I think it may have been labelled Backup Now, because I can still click it and it will launch Rescue and Recovery. Not a critical bug, but annoying and the sort of thing I expected to avoid by purchasing from a top name in the business.

Hi there,

Recently, my Toshiba computer experienced a blue screen error. I tried running the computer in safe mode and all the other modes available, but the blue screen kept appearing. I had no other choice but to run the Product Recovery CD that came with the laptop. Once it was done, I was happy to find that the laptop was working, but all my files were deleted! Now, I know this meant the HDD was formatted during the product !recovery operation, but is there any way in which my lost files can be restored???

Desperate for help,

Thanks,

Not easy to say because before OS installation the HDD is formatted and existing partitions are also overwritten. I really do not know what to say. If you have some very important data try to talk with experts. Google a little bit around. I hope you will find someone who can help you.

i bought ThinkPad R52 Type 1858 - A17 a couple of years back from australia then i had to go to middle east (stil there) and last week, my ram got damaged and my computer wouldn't work, i lost all my work and all my IBM functions that i had including the blue button function so i need your help in getting these functions back (installing them again) especially that i don't have recovery CD and can't get one now  i also used to have a folder called IBM tools which had all the files related to all IBM functions. so i will appreciate it if someone can help me in regard of where can i download them from. Thanks in advance

Answer:Thinkpad R52 Recovery and Rescue blue button

Welcome to the forum! Unfortunately, there is no place that you could download all the contents of "IBM Tools" folder, since some of the software is copyrighted and not available for free downloads. Your best bet is to try and locate a copy of recovery disks for R52, you could probably get away with using recovery for T43 with Intel integrated graphics (model numbers 187x-xxx). Good luck and let us know.

My t61p has the GPU (1 long 2 short beeps) problem described in another thread. Apart from getting the laptop fixed, which will take several weeks, I have a more pressing problem getting my data back from this laptop.I have been using Lenovo Rescue and Recovery religiously for the last two years to create monthly incremental backups on a USB drive. While I am trying to get my laptop repaired, I would like to at least recover my files from the backup and start working on a different machine.I was told by Lenovo support that the only way to get to the data is to connect the drive to another T61p, running the exact same version of Rescue and Recovery I had on my original T61p. For one, I have to idea what version of R&R  I had on my laptop. Secondly, I am in no position to get another T61p just to recover the data.I would have thought that there would be a version of R&R that I could run on any Windows machine, and recover the data, but apparently that's not so.Does anyone have any suggestions about how I can recover my data? Thanks.

I upgraded my hard drive to a Hitachi 320 GB using Acronis. When I restored to the larger drive all I got was a blinking cursor in upper left hand corner. I then ran the Paragon disk software and selected boot corrector, problem solved it boots up fine. problem is I can no longer access recovery using the Thinkvantage button or the productivity center. It will let me do a backup but not a restore. I tried the productiviy center the last back up is listed but when I select it nothing happens. I have upgraded the R&R to the latest version as well. Any suggestions?

Answer:Upgraded hard drive and lost rescue and recovery function

I had a similar issue when I used Acronis to clone my existing 80GB hard drive to a 250GB. The first time I tried it, I also got the blinking cursor and a drive read error. The first time I installed Acronis, I used the 'Custom' option to not install the Rescue Media Builder and the Bart PE plug-in. I uninstalled Acronis and then reinstalled it using the 'Typical' option. I left the Acronis disk in the drive after the reinstall and rebooted as directed. It booted to the disk (it is a bootable disk) and ran the program, which I did not do the first time. The first time I removed the disk before rebooting and ran Acronis with Windows off the desktop. Running it from the disk had a different look, like it was in safe mode, and a screen came up with options like continuing to Windows or running a utility like clone the disk. I chose the clone option and this time it worked. I was using a hard drive docking station connected via usb. All I can say is, running Acronis with Windows failed and I don't know why. The steps I used the second time around did the trick, so that's all I have to offer, as long as you have a hard copy of Acronis and not a downloaded version.

My T60P 8744-C9U hard drive died.  Test: BIOS encounters read errors when doing a  test - WinXP boot cd cannot find C drive. But fortunately I did frequent backups to a USB external drive .... hum.....So - HOW DO I RESTORE THE DATA FROM THE USB EXTERNAL DRIVE THAT WAS CREATED WITH R&R onto my other computer so I can work - a desktop - Quad XP 64 - not a Lenovo product !!!

Answer:Rescue and Recovery - How do I restore data to another comptr since my laptop hard drive crashed???

You're not going to be able to do a complete restoration onto a totally different computer, but you should be able to connect your external drive to the desktop and retrieve specific files and folders.

The only way to do a complete restoration is to get a new drive for the T60, download R&R and restore from the backup, unless you burned recovery discs, then you could restore from those and then use the backup.

But it was the first time that I had to run the recovery disk and I moved all my important documents to the second partition (E:) and then ran the recovery disk, thinking that it would only format the first partition (C:)...
Well I was wrong.

Can anyone please help me with a way to get the information on my second partition (E:) back?

Hi mate?

I?ve got bad news for you?
The HDD has been formatted by Recovery DVD and this means that all available partitions have been erased!

I?m sorry but I don?t see any options to get back the data :(

Of course there are many companies which are able to rescue the data on damage HDDs of after HDD formatting but in my opinion the costs would be immense?

Hi
I used CLEAN in DISKPART and i delete all partitions of my only disk.
Now i dont have any OS on my laptop and i want recover partition by "Partition Wizard" or "Test Disk" that can boot from CD but i fear that this bootable program overwrite on my only disk to load itself and some part of my data will be lost.
Am i right?
I must apologize because of my weak language skills.

Answer:May i lost my data in recovery by bootable recovery programs?

It depends on how valuable your data was and much you want to spend to get it back. The best chance you would have of retrieving your data would be to take your hard drive to a professional recovery service, explain to them the exact steps you did to delete your partitions and pay the professionals to retrieve your data.

I have successfully - many, many years ago - recovered a deleted partition using software that I purchased, but I can't remember exactly which software it was - I only used it once.

Software such as this:
Free Partition Recovery Software - EaseUS Partition Recovery.

Is meant to be booted from CD/DVD/USB and not write to the hard drive so that it can read possible markers left on the hard drive to indicate where the partitions used to be and restore them.

Hi,

I'm in desperate need of some help. My PC at work decided to shutdown each time it booted up and displayed the desktop it would display a message along the lines on 'Microsoft has detected an error and will shutdown...', then shutdown.

The machine was taken away by the IT guys who at first thought it was a memory issue, I was then told it was a hard drive fault and that they tried to clone the hard drive to a new hard drive but some of the windows system files were corrupt, so they gave me a new hard drive with and loaded a fresh install of Windows 7 and set my faulty hard drive as the slave drive.

The slave drive originally had XP on it.

The problem I have is trying to recover the files from the slave drive, although the drive and structure look in tact the user profile doesn't appear at all, I've unhidden files within 'user' but it just shows up as 'default' with just a bunch of empty folders.

Is there anyway I can recover my profile and more importantly recover my files?

Many thanks

Answer:Recovery of lost data

As your IT guys have tried, I would say NO.
Do your IT guys backup all the PC at work.

Hello:

Lenovo x140e laptop / 2.05 BIOS:
(image link removed)

I have used Lenovo Rescue / Recovery to make a full disk image backup to DVDs for installation of SSD drive.

Attempting to boot from Rescue / Recovery DVD appears to load Windows files, start Windows then goes to this Lenovo R&R screen:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/f4h423vbk1rpfm0/2014-09-18%2008.53.21.jpg?dl=0

No menus show up asking to restore anything, in about 5 seconds it shuts down and reboots again over and over.

I did have BIOS 2.01 and upgraded it using Lenovo BIOS boot DVD upgrader, now is 2.05 and same result.

Factory reset would be OK, but tI paid extra for Windows 7 pro "downgrade" (ironic, no?) that I would like to keep.  System restore disks that came with theunit are for Windows 8.1 .

Help?

Here is complete laptop box label:

hi,guys. I got a problem now, I install a free software a week ago, then when login the windows, always had a babylon 9 advertisement pop up at the right coner of the screen, so i use the anti -malware to remove it ,unfortunately it didn't workeven worse I lost the total data of q recovery  partition, my questions are how to remove the disturbing ad.  and how to back up the system.   thanks

Answer:Lost data from recovery partition

First, some info:What anti-malware program are you using? Also, did you create restore disks when you first used the system? What free software did you download and install (the name of the program that keeps creating the ad)?I'm assuming that 'Q:' just doesn't show up in 'Computer', correct? Can you tell me what happens when you go into Start>Search for 'Computer Management'>Storage>Disk Management? Do you see 3 blue boxes in total, and is one of them labeled 'Lenovo Recovery'?Finally, what version of Windows are you using, and on what kind of Thinkpad?

Hi,
Actually i saved data in partition, then after added bitlocker security.
I have password and key also.
Then I unlocked it for sometime, Due to my friend mistake, he deleted entire data from drive (which was enabled for bitlock). Data was huge so it just deleted without going to recyclebin.
So now i can recover data with DATA RECOVERY TOOL from partition.
But Its encrypted. bcuz in that drive data was encrypted.
So when i try to access its marked as not read (encrypted).
I think there is no way to put same data back in bitlock cover and unlock it or other solution.
If you have some suggestions, Please suggest.
I will be very thankfull to you.

Hi, my question concerns an HP Pavillion Desktop with Windows XP Home Edition Operating System. About a week ago my computer was degenerating to such a condition that it would no longer start up properly: it would not load some of the host process properly at start up and the desk top would not appear. The system would hang up, and the only way I could access files was in safe mode.
So I decided to do a Full System Recovery and allow the computer to restore itself to some sort of usable condition. Upon completing the initial set up I was presented with, I pressed FINISH and the system froze again, refusing to load the desktop.
So, perhaps foolishly, I attempted a System Recovery from the Recovery DVDs the computer had prompted me to make a while ago, as well as a few more System Restores and Recoveries.
Finally after letting the computer run its course for nearly a day, I was able to use the desktop normally again. However, I discovered that some text documents which I had saved directly on to the desktop had disappeared. I scoured the directories looking for them, discovering that the old Documents and Settings from the previous user name (the one I had when I saved the files onto the desktop) would not allow me to access its DESKTOP folder, where I hoped these documents might be.
These documents were not backed up in any other folder, but saved directly to the desktop.
My question is, and I know it's probably a long shot: Is there any hope that I might be able to recov... Read more

yes and no depending if you've written OVER the sectors of your data. Go get yourself a program that reads the sectors on the harddrive. A simple search on www.downloads.com will show some results. I believe I used a program called GetDataBack awhile ago. Worked like a charm.

hello,I did a system reset or recovery with Vista ( I have a compaq 610). I have 2 drives, C and D.Without thinking that it would be new formatted etc , I did not make a back-up of my pictures and docs ( I know ....)howver I made a back up a couple of weeks ago thru the HP software on D.If I now look at d it say 2gb of 10 free. Which means that their should be data on....  But when I click on it I see nothing.would anyone know how I can see that data and what is on the D drive?thankschris

Answer:lost data after system recovery

The D: drive probably doesn't contain any backups. It contains a recovery partition. The "backup" procedure you ran through, assuming you didn't burn any discs during the process, likely just backed up your data somewhere on the C: drive, not onto D: (since there would not be room).

My girlfriend's laptop seems to be showing symptoms consistent with gradual hard-drive failure (she is losing random bits of data for no reason and is experiencing OS functionality slowdown as well as boot errors). One of the files that 'vanished' was her diary, is there any way to recover this by means of software? (The laptop is still functional and I can run whatever needs to be run). Please get back to me if there is any way to solve this. We tried a data-recovery program but it didn't yield any results, only something that looks like a temp copy of the file. Word couldn't open it because it was corrupted, and I don't think that's the right file anyways since it's only ~160 B, when her diary was a 20 page file (I'm guessing ~100 KB)
Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Hello. My R60 blue screened today with a Unmountable Boot Volume message. I've tried restarting in all possible ways, safe mode etc etc and it just reverts to the blue sceen. I've tried the Think Vantage system to rescue and recover but it isn't recognising any files or any back up to restore to. I'm plugging a USB in before I turn on the machine, following the instructions etc but it doesn't bring up any files or folders from any drive to rescue, the searches yield 0 results and then, when I try to restore it, it doesn't offer any back ups to revert to! I have definitely clicked yes many times when prompted to back up. To make matters worse, I got the computer through a company IT department and they prepped it for me so I have no discs to go with it!! It has all my photos on it and worse, all my financials and business plan info as I'm just about to start a new business. I got it in 2007 so well out of warranty. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.(I have a feeling it's very bad though!) David.

My notebook R60e is pre-installed with Windows XP professional edition. After doing a recovery, the blue button stop respond to enterThinkVandtage mode at the start of hard boot. The blue button can function normally (i.e. enter ThinkVantage Productivity Centre)  in Windows XP environment. How to call back the normal function of the Blue ThinkVantage button so that I can enter rescue and recovery mode on hard boot? Thanks

Answer:Blue ThinkVantage button cannot enter ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery mode on hard boot

Hi hkjordan, welcome to the forum, do you still get the message prompting you to press the blue button? If yes, try pressing F11 instead, (it's the old method which still works). If no, it would seem that your mbr, (master boot record) is damaged. The good news is that there is a utility to repair the mbr, the bad news is you will need a usb floppy. Regards

Two of my friends have had problems with E-Machines PCs running XP. On both occasions, on booting up the PC the cursor just sat in the top left hand corner. The engineers who came out loaded the recovery disk, and ten minutes later they had what appeared to be a working system. But, all of their data was missing. Some data had been been copied to floppies, but a lot was lost. How can this data be recovered?. Does anyone know of a good, freeware, package? Thanks. Bill

I purchased a new Motherboard to upgrade my computer and new SSD drive. I installed Windows 7 again on my new SSD. I had a 3TB Seagate Drive that had 3 partitions. One partition had Windows 7 and system files. The other two had data. Now, one of my data partitions shows as Unallocated. The old Windows 7 partition is totally accessible as well as one data partition. I need to recover the data on the drive from the unallocated partition. I've tried Seatools and EaseUs partition tool. I'm going to try DiscInternals next.

Does anyone have suggestions on recovering a partition that is now unallocated? I imagine the data is still there but the partition isn't being recognized by Windows 7.

Thanks

Answer:Lost Partition - Now Unallocated - Data Recovery

Try a simple partition undelete using Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard - Video Help.

If that doesn't work try data recovery software.

Your data should always be backed up externally or to the cloud, using a modern method like Sync, Backup and Store your Files to the Cloud with Skydrive - Windows 7 Forums

Hi..

A recent attempt to install (downloaded from the HP site) printer software caused my stable XPsp3 Compaq/HP PC to constantly lock within a few mouse clicks from start up. Uninstalling the software didn't help and I couldn't restore to a pre-install restore point. Reinstalling the software from a borrowed disc didn't do anything either.

I ran the Compaq on-board system recovery software from boot up (from a partition on the disc I gather). Rather than go for the more destructive back-to-completely-original option, I went for one that said I'd have to reinstall non-factory software - but that data files would be unaffected.

Lo and behold the near-opposite has occurred: all the self-installed software remains intact but data files from my account have been wiped. My wifes account data is still there however.

I've a recent enough back-up available but will have lost honeymoon photos. At least, they're not available via XP/Explorer - though I assume they haven't been written over yet on disc. Any idea how to go about retrieving these files?

Any help would be appreciated..

Ian

Answer:Recovering lost data after system recovery

GetDataBack to recover the lost files, then I'd wipe the drive and start fresh. You may have had malware and/or HD errors messing up the repair install. The HD may also be failing; it would be a good idea to test it before reinstalling.

Not sure if I'm in the right place, but here goes. I recently did a partial system recovery and when I was done, everything was in it's right place except for one folder. I did a search and located it in USERDATA but was unable to access it. I managed to gain ownership of the folder but when I opened it, the folder was empty! Why would this happen and is there any way I can recover the lost files? I even downloaded a file recovery program but I still cannot find the files although I have found other crap that has been deleted. Does anyone have any advice as to what can be done? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I'm not quite certain what my wife did.  I think she said she pressed Thinkvantage and quote pressed 'yes' to restore.  But the computer is certainly not back to factory specs with no data files on it, so I hope she just did an earlier recovery, if I have the vernacular right? Is there a way to reverse the recovery/restore that she is at now?  Most recent photos of our newborn among other valuable data was lost. Many many thanks for all the best and I am trying to relate as best I can what 'she did.'

My computer (running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit) can no longer access my Western Digital Caviar "Black" 1 TB hard drive that's connected, but I suspect my data to still be in there, so I wonder what data recorvery tools people have used and recommend.

This is one of the additional drives to my operating system C:\ drive. It has been formatted as NTFS and been working fine for several months until a week ago. Now it appears as the E drive on My Computer (as originally configured) but the volume label is now blank (I used to have that named as "Media"). When I double-click on it to enter the drive, I get the error message: "E:\ is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect."

In Computer Management --> Storage --> Disk Management, the drive appears but it's File System is now indicated as RAW rather than NTFS.

I have tried using Active Partition Recovery and that successfully lists my drive with the original label name ("Media") and as NTFS, and also lists the folders located at the root of the drive, which is why I suspect my data to still be in there and recoverable. However, when I use this tool to do a full scan of my disk, it freezes after scanning 35 MB. There are tools out there with varying reliability, so whch ones do people here recommend? (another tool I trired, I forget its name, was scanning my disk but prediced 43 days to go over the entire 1 TB, so that's out of the question!). I have been told to u... Read more

Answer:Data recovery from drive with lost format, software recommendations please

Oh crap. Something like this happened recently to me when I had backed up some data to an USB thumb drive. It worked fine for awhile, then some weeks later, my PC just couldn't read it anymore (kept saying "disk in drive needs to be reformatted/etc"...and the properties for the drive also showed it as RAW format instead of FAT32 like it would have been usually).

I think the issue is drive corruption, which seems to be fairly common with external devices like USB drives, but odd in the case of an internal drive. The remedy for me was to try to access it from a different system, which was easy since being a USB stick I could try it elsewhere easily. If you can use another system to access the drive, preferably a Linux/Ubuntu based one; it is likely your best bet to recoup the data before its lost permanently. An external HDD kit would be ideal, and they are quite cheap also.

Hope this helps!

Hi guys,

I have a serious problem with my Packard Bell Easy Note V7800W.

Since a few days, when I started the PC, Windows would load, then I would login, and then the PC would freeze when loading the desktop etc: I could see my desktop, see the start menu, etc. But could not click on anything. And the same situation would happen even with annother user.

So I tried different things. First, I wanted to restart in safe mode to run a chkdsk. But when I tried starting safe mode, it would just start the normal Windows.

So I saw on the Packard Bell docs that there was a recovery mode I could launch at startup by pressing F11 (or F10, don't remember). The doc mentionned that I would then be able to choose to backup my data and reinstall Windows.

I went ahead. And then things got very wired. After launching, the tool told me no partition was found, and that it was now creating one. Ok. Then I got a menu proposing me to: backup my data and reinstall Windows. Only problem, this option was disabled (radio button disabled). The only option left was to restore at factory default. Of course I didn't want to since I didn't want to loose my data.

Now what am I supposed to do ? When I restart the computer it automatically boots on the recovery partition. I can't boot in any other mode. I inserted a Windows Installation CD (from annother computer), tried running chkdsk but it only finds two partitions: C:/MININT (6GB) and annother one of 16 GB. My DD is 80 GB in total.... Read more

Answer:Serious problem with my Packard Bell - data lost after running recovery tool ?

Hey there, Welcome to Tech Guy forums.

Personally I think the best way forward with this problem is to remove the hard drive out of your computer. If it is IDE (PATA) then you will have to switch the jumpers to make it a slave drive and install it into another working computer and attempt to recover your data off the drive. If it is a SATA drive then you will not have to set the jumpers and should be able to install the drive straight into another computer and be able to access it.

The drive will show up as the 2 partitions that you have mentioned and hopefully your data will be safe in one of those partitions. The other space that isn't accounted for I can only presume has been deleted and made ready to become a partition in which case you may need to use a data recovery program to get he files back or possibly send your hard drive to a professional company to get them to try and recover it for you.

Hi, I am using a T400, window 7, 32 bits. Yesterday I accidentally clicked on  Start > All Programs > ThinkVantage> Create product recovery media or Create recovery media. I am not sure about which programs I clicked on but it appears an open up window asking me if I want to insert recovery disk, then I click no. It disappeared. It didn't tell me anything( like all the data will be lost and there is no progress box either; it happened very fast like in 5 seconds) and then I find that all my data in hard drive D is gone. I can not see hard drive D anymore in My computer. However I can find the partition titled "recovery partition" with 100% free storage in replace for my hard drive D in the storage management of  My computer and I cannot access it. I am so scared that I don't turn off the laptop 'till now. All the programs are working normal because I installed them on hard drive C but all the data on drive D is lost. Anyone has the same problems? I wonder such a serious software but doesn't have any prior notice to customer that it will cause data loss like this? Thanks.

Hi guys Im talking to you from my "wonderfull " comptur which is now in safe mode. SORRY ABOUT THE BOOK

Heres the problem. I downloaded a update to windows media player yesterday afternoon. And as soon as it finished my Virus scanner (who i gut from my internet provider) jumped up and said the download contained a trogen but it was cleaned.

later that night I turned on the computer and it booted up. And the start up programs booted. But once the Virus scanner (who i gut from my internet provider) started up the computer would shut of and restart. Wonderfull

So i went to bed. got up this morning and the computer would start for 3-5seconds then shut down. i figured it was the power supply so I put a used one I had lying around into it. I turned on the computer and it booted up. And the start up programs booted. But once the Virus scanner (who i gut from my internet provider) started up the computer would shut of and restart. I am also getting the blue screen of death showing these codes 0x0000007f, 0x80042000,0x000000a5,0x0000004 and 0x76397c8.

Ive taken out my ram and cleaned it still didnt fix it.

Answer:I am LOST and getting the blue screen

Welcome to TSF

Boot into Safe Mode and remove that stupid Virus scanner your isp provided to you. Its causing your issue.
Its not a full anti-virus program anyhow and you are only putting your system at risk. After you remove it go to eset.com and get NOD32

I recently created Recovery Discs in Windows XP, but when I insert Disc 2, it always says that it is the incorrect disc so I cannot continue the factory restore. Now I'm trying to restore by booting into the Rescue and Recovery on my hard drive, but it cannot find the hidden factory partition on the hd. It also now says that the restore had a "convertion" error when it wouldn't recognize disc 2 and will not let me try to look at my hard drive to restore anymore. If I use the RR boot disc, it will let me try to restore, but it finds nothing restorable on the HD.I did look at the hard drive and see 2 partitions with one being a IBM_SERVICE partition with 3.9GB total size and 2.9GB free space. Please help, thanks.

My T61's Rescue and Recovery software in WinXP can't recognise/use the Vista's ServiseV002 partition to go back to factory settings.  I tried both in the pre-boot program and the Rescue and Recovery  in windows Xp, but both of them can't get to the hidden partition to go back to factory settings. I didnt make a rescue CD before formatting the C drive. I think the hidden partition is enough for me to get a clean Vista when I want at that time but I am wrong.  Hope someone can get me an answer, thank you! BTW i am in a educational system, I can get Vista Ultimate for 7 bucks, so if I can't get the Vista from the hidden drive, I can just bought one from school. It's not the end of the world!!!

Hello;
My first post here, except for introducing myself. My problem is with my son's HP Pavilion a1130n. It is running Windows XP Media Center Edition. Awhile back, he was notified of some important Windows updates and started to install them. During the process, he lost his internet connection and was not able to complete the update. Consequently, when he tried to boot up the next time, the system would not boot. I don't know if there were any error messages displayed at this point, but what happened next is where the problem started. He, (not knowing enough about Windows recovery console), panicked, and after not being able to even boot into 'SafeMode', jumped right into a recovery operation. When he saw that the operation was going to restore to the same state as when he bought it, he panicked again about losing all his family photos and music, and unplugged the machine. Needless to say, the system is now completely unusable. I pulled his hard drive and connected it to mine, and with the help of a free recovery program (Piriform's 'Recuva'), i am able to see and recover all of his data. However, it is a tedious and time consuming process and I am wondering if there is any way to undo the damage he did and get it back to a bootable condition keeping all his data in place. Any help would be greatly appreciatd because he may not have his original restore disks. Thanks, in advance for your consideration.

Answer:Hoping to undo partial recovery operation (recovery console)

If you have the installation CD you can do a repair installation. This will not affect any of the data or applications.Boot the computer from the XP CD. You may need to change boot order in the BIOS so that the CD-ROM is the first device in the boot order. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer: To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER. To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R. To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.Press Enter to start the Windows Setup. To setup Windows XP now and Repair Install , press ENTER. You do not want to choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R.Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair isn't one of the option end the installation, this will mean that you will need to do a fresh installation of XP.The repair will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot, the repair installation will continue after the reboot.

I am doing a fresh install in the following rather than cloning because the system has not been reinstalled for 4yrs.  From an external usb CD drive (internal drive removed) I installed the recovery disks onto a 160GB Samsung HM160HC PATA drive with no problem .  Then clicked the restart button.  My T42 booted right back into the opening page of the Rescue and Recovery routine.  On restarting again I used F12 to get the list of drives and selected the Samsung HDD.  This did not help.  Have repeated startup numerous times.  The computer could not be looking at any other drive because the Samsung is the only one connected.  I am tempted to download Lenovo's available BIOS update while logged-in with the old 30GB drive regardless of the fact that my  Embedded Controller Program is ver 3.04 and supposed to be suitable for the 160GB drive upgrade.  If anyone has a suggestion please let me know.

Answer:T42 HDD upgrade- Recovery disks install but hard drive only boots to Rescue and Recovery routine.

Welcome to the forum!

Wipe the hard drive clean.

Boot from the first (Rescue & Recovery CD) and follow the prompts. You'll have 7 more CDs to go through (5 for the earlier version).

Once the process is complete, the machine will instruct you to remove the final CD and reboot. At that point, you should be able to boot from the hard drive with no interaction required.

Good luck.

Hello, I never created recovery disks when I purchased my T60 over three years ago.  I regret that. Now I am wondering if it is possible to do so.  When I launch Create Recover Media (rrmedia.exe), it crashes immediately:AppName: rrmedia.exeAppVer: 1.0.0.1ModName: unknownModVer: 0.0.0.0Offset: 0018089aEventID: 1000 I cannot request recovery disks from Lenovo, because my system is out of warranty now. So I think it is either it is impossible to use rrmedia.exe at this point (since in the meantime, I've upgraded to XP SP3, etc) or I need to upgrade or reinstall Rescue and Recovery.  However, trying the latter opens up a can of worms: 1) Rescue and Recovery shows version 3.01.0037.  Running system update to patch to 3.01.0042 fails: "A later version of 'Rescue and Recovery - Client Security Solution' is already installed on this machine.  The setup cannot continue." 2) When I try to uninstall RR from Add/Remove programs, it fails: "Another version of this product is already installed.  Installation of this version cannot continue.  To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel" 3) When I try to upgrade to the latest 4.xx, it says I must first uninstall the current version, which from the above, I cannot do. So the machine is confused as to which version it has, and it won't let me upgrade, uninstall, or reinstall. In summary:&... After I did a clean install of Win10 about a year ago, I created a USB Recovery Drive. I also have a Norton Security Recovery Drive and I?ve created USB Bootable PE Rescue Disk by Kyhi. I also use Acronis to create regular full disk images and I have a USB Bootable Acronis Rescue Drive.

With the USB Recovery Drive and the USB Bootable PE Rescue Disk by Kyhi, do I still need to keep the Recovery Partition that Win10 created when I did the original install? Are the files in that partition used by the system to create the USB Recovery Drive?

Also out of curiosity I executed the ?reagentc/info? command and I see that the Windows RE status is disabled. Did creating the USB Recovery Drive do that or is something else going on? If I keep the recovery partition then do I need to re-enable it and if so how do I do that?

Answer:Recovery Drive vs Recovery Partition vs PE Rescue Disk, confused.

Hi, you don't need the manufacturer's recovery partition unless you planned to restore the PC to as bought e.g. to sell it on.
You could create a disk image of it and save it on an external disk, then delete it from your PC.

Windows RE: Suggests you have a corrupt or missing partition - System Reserved. Note that Disk Management does not show this 16Mb partition. You need a 3rd party partition manager to see it.

See this (lots of technical detail):
Just a moment...

And do a couple of checks to see if it really is missing.

Today I was investigating something in ThinkVantage Rescue & Recovery since one of my attempts to create a set of recovery discs had gone wrong - I created a Rescue Disc (boot disk) instead of a set of Recovery Disks. Basically, what I discovered is that according to this IBM page http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-68317.html I am supposed to see two options when clicking "Create Recovery Media" in the ThinkVantage start menu group: (1) Rescue Media and (2) Recovery Discs. In the event that a set of Recovery Discs (option 2) has already been created, this option will become gray and can't be selected, however it will still be visible, displaying the text that you've already created a set of Recovery Discs and that your license doesn't allow you to make any more. The strange thing here is that I don't at all have option 2: Recovery Discs, whether active or inactive (gray)! Please find attached the three relevant screenshots: the last one is of my computer (and is in Dutch but shows you that I have only option 1 to select), the bottom two are from the link I provided above and show the distinction between having option 2 active or inactive (gray text). Does anyone know what is going on here? And will this entitle me to a complimentary (in effect, free) set of Resovery Disks from IBM Support (taking into account my warranty has expired)?  I've got an R50p running Windows XP Pro (1832-W1D). [IMG]http://i38.tinypic.com/2r3w1ts.jpg[/IM... Hello so I have run into a huge problem. I first went to the windows update site to check if sp3 was available for download. Windows update showed it was there at the windows update website to download. The only thing I did manually was go to the windows update site other than that the automatic update did the rest. So after it installed everything it asks to restart my computer so I do. While it was loading everything back up the screen where it has a black background and the windows logo with the blue loading bar freezes then I get this blue screen that comes up. Because it closes in 1second and just restarts my computer so then at my next attempt I try the log into windows the last time it was working properly something along those lines. I try it and it says a system file is missing. So then I go into hp recovery I have never used it before eventually I get back to the old welcome screen and it asks me for which region, time etc. I finally can get back in I am at the lowest resolution so everything is loading extremely slow because the drivers for my video card haven't been installed. The first thing I try to do is go to the nvidia site and download the driver. I download the driver and get and try to install it and get this error

I recently got the 'blue screen of death' on my 6 yr old IBM NetVista. Called various tech people and was told that 1.) my hard drive was gone; 2.) a bad virus had taken over the 'puter; and various other things. Being stubborn Scots-Irish, I decided to see what I could do before I gave up.
Started computer again, tapping the F8 key while it was booting up......ran all the system diagnostic tests and passed them, so I knew it wasn't the hard drive. Finally got it to boot back up, but of course, had lost all my data; ran all my recover info and got everything back except my 'Record Now' feature, which allows me to make data discs, copy existing discs, etc etc. It should have been on one of the original discs that came with the computer, but I can't find it.
Since I know I'm on borrowed time, I've ordered a new 'puter which will be here probably next week. Problem is, I want to save all my documents, games, addresses and such as back-up. How can I do that without my Record Now feature?
Is there a way to find that specific program on my Recovery discs and install lit to make my back-up copies? I haven't tried to copy to the floppy discs because it takes so many of them and takes forbloodyever to do.
Can you help???? Thanks in advance!!!

It sounds to me like your rescue and recovery partition may be corrupted. My recommendations is to get the rescue and recovery CD's from Lenovo. I had to purchase some for an old T40 and it cost me like $45, but after you have them you can have piece of mind that you can replace the hard drive and still restore back to Factory settings. After you get the recovery CD's I would recommend reinstalling rescue and recovery.

I have gone to restore my laptop to Factory setting but in the rescue and recovery application i do not have any option to recover to the laptop as it came out the factory. When i got the laptop i created rescue media and have a set of 4 disks, All DVD(2 are 8.5GB). The R&R  boots and asks for the Final C disk. None of the disks display in the backup listbox. Before i went for a fresh install using a Windows 7 disk, i got R&R to off load media to a portable drive. This will boot to a different version of R&R similar to the post 2008 walkthrough. But the screen i get does not have the radio button for Factory restore, just the backup and when i put my DVD's in, no backup is found from the media i have... I removed the factory partition after i created the media as i presumed i could get back to the factory using them. My fresh install of windows 7 works but downloading the wireless driver from Lenovo doesn't activate... wish i never started to mess with it now.... Any suggestions???

Hi,

I have experienced the "blue screen" crash on my 64 bit Windows 7 laptop several times during the last seven to ten days.

To address this I took the following steps before I got stuck:
I ran selective startup
I then ran system file checker
Error received was - found no integrity violations
Then I couldn't figure out how to continue and decided to come to techguy.org
Found a similar forum and ran MSG diagnostic and the results are found below.

hi,
I have a Dell Dimension 8200. Not partitioned. Run WinXP Pro SP3 fully up to date, Kaspersky, usually also WinPatrol, yesterday as I will explain below briefly ran Snoopfree.

For about a week I have been noticing that when I type it takes (often not always) long time to see what I've been typing. Yesterday I downloaded a new Snoopfree, it saw PBExplorer.exe, don't know if that was part of a problem. Then ---

Windows stopped. No keyboard nor mouse recognition.

I pressed the power button to turn it off.

Turned it back on. Get the Dell icon etc as usual at start, then the Intel... screen (I have BIOS A05) and errors PXE- E61 media test failure and PXE M0F exiting intel boot agent.

Yes I am stupid. I put my windows disk (it is SP2 on that disk which I bought from Windows, it is fully legit but not the one that originally came on the Dell in 2002) in the cd drive thinking that I am able to boot off that --- I do not know what I am doing needless to say --- next time get to some blue screens indicating that Windows is reloading drivers etc, then get to a screen indicating that it can't find a hard drive. Hello,

It seems that Connectify is causing this trouble. There are known issues with Connectify, you might need to remove it. Try updating to the latest version first: Connectify - Reviews and free Connectify downloads at CNET Download.com

If BSODs persist, uninstall Connectify completely.

Hey guys,

So for the last few days I've been investigating a blue screen problem with no luck. The computer boots fine and runs for fine for a minute or two before blue screening. I ran memory and HD tests in the BIOS that were normal. It runs fine in safe mode which was making me think there's something malicious hiding somewhere. I ran DDS and GMER in safe mode and then my computer suddenly freaked out and now all of my files and icons have disappeared. I managed to salvage my GMER log but lost the DDS log. I've attached a new DDS log after the data loss. My GMER log was too large to attach, not sure what to do there. I can run a new GMER scan after the data loss if needed as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

-Alex

Answer:Blue screen Blues and Data Loss

It appears that a lot of my icons and such were just hidden. Still it appears that my HD has a lot less of the capacity filled than it did earlier today.

I dont know what has happened i cannot start my laptop at all, not even into safe mode, it just comes up with the BSOD...Ive done a diagonostic test and it says its a hard drive failure..

OK i know how to re-format my drive but is there anway i can access the data that was on my HDD. Could i possibly boot up another OS from a USB, say linux and access my files???

Answer:Have i lost my files..Blue screen of death

Depends on just what the failure is. Bad Circuit board, platter damage, or just a few bad sectors.

A bad circuit board can sometime be replaced with one from an identical model.
If the drive was making any knocking or grinding noises it could be platter damage (heads bounced off the internal disks), your best bet would be a data recovery company. They aren't cheap.
You might be able to recover you data, but further use of the drive could cause more damage if it has physical damage.

A few bad sectors, you can probably recover your data using a Live CD, and maybe even repair the drive without losing anything simply by running chkdsk, or drive diagnostics

Live CDs
Ultimate Boot CD for Windows
Ultimate Boot CD
Knoppix
Ubuntu
Puppy Linux

You can download and run drive diagnostics to rule out drive failure:

Seagate/Maxtor http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools
Western Digital http://support.wdc.com/download/
IBM/Hitachi http://www.hgst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT
Fujitsu/Seimens http://www.fujitsu.com/us/services/computing/storage/hdd/support/utilities.html

Free Hard Drive Testing Applications:
HD Tune
HDAT2 (Diagnostics and bad sector recovery)
MHDD Low-level Diagnostics
Bootable Hitachi Drive Fitness Test Floppy or CD Image (works on most drives)

After a blue screen, I got a glimpse of the problem...a driver failed..but I was unable to get the full message; in XP, is there log that traps all the startup/crash messages (like in UNIX)? If so, I would like to read the crash; is there a utility to read a crash or is it a text file?

I believe the Broadcom 440x driver may be the problem; I'd like to simply replace the driver with a new one and see if connectivity is restored; I've gone to Broadcom's web site but cannot find a replacement; the current driver is "bcm4sbxp.sys" Ver 3.60.00; how can I find a replacement?

What I've done thus far is:

run ipconfig...it shows an IP address
run SBC Yahoo troubleshooter which comes back after a few minutes and indicates it has trouble with the internet connection (big help that is !)
run "netshell" utility to reset the TCP/IP stack ...

I still have no internet connection.

Answer:lost internet connectivity after blue screen

Hi martino

System errors are usually trapped in the system event logs. You can view these with the Event Viewer tool = go to Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer. You can reach these tools in Safe Mode, when the system won't successfully boot normally.

If your Broadcom Network component is integrated onto your motherboard, you should be able to download a fresh driver by visiting the website of the motherboard manufacturer.

If the problem persists after reinstalling your Broadcom drivers - have you recently suffered from a virus attack? If yes - scan again as thoroughly as possible - in Safe Mode if necessary, and if a severe infection is present, try following the 5-Step Security Checklist over in the Security forums here at Tech Support Forums http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=15968

If the system proves clean, and a new driver doesn't help, try using the WinsockXPfix utility as a quick-fix --- http://www.majorgeeks.com/WinSock_XP_Fix_d4372.html --- the program will offer to make backups before it changes things - this is a smart step to take.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

My computer has been crashing non stop, I can only get it opened to scan and make logs in safe mode. I will not work in safe mode + networking. Basically I opened a .exe file and a couple of hours later I got my first BSOD. Ever since then I has problems with crashing instantly, freezing on boot up, and more crashing. Here are the log files. A friend of mine recommended Combofix and I ran it successfully but it crashed right after the log report came up.I hope someone can help me with this matter as it is important and urgent that I get my laptop ready for my presentation at work.

Thanks,

D

So my laptop is starting to get pretty old and is slowly deteriorating. Upon start up I am always prompted that one of my fans has stopped working but for the first time today I received a blue screen that read Kernel_Data_inpage_error. I have recieved one blue screen before this but it was a different problem and after uninstalling some software I fixed that. I don't know what could have prompted this. Any help would be extremely nice. I've searched how other people's are fixed on here and some of them didn't seem to work.

Here is the log from the TSG sysInfo

On 23 May in the Am I Infected forum Quietman7 suggested I posted a HJT log here. Topic referenced is here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/228654/backdoorbot-infections/ ~ OB From this posting date you can see that business took me away for some weeks, and I left my Desktop computer off, running Windows XP Home SP3.I ran Spybot Search & Destroy and it found:Win32.Agent.pz Win32.Zbot.These 2 problems were fixed and I then ran Malwarebytes which found:Backdoor.botTrojan.AgentStolen.dataMalware.TraceWorm.KoobfaceThese were all quarantined and deleted successfully.Using the Sofware programs some weeks ago, I thought I had cleared these, but, it seems, not.I have run both programs again, and both report all clear. However, to compound the annoyance I now get the ?Blue Screen of Death? with XPwhich shuts down XP and leaves the screen which says that it has closed down Windows XP to prevent harm and says it is BAD POOL CALLER. The technical details are:STOP: 0X000000C2 (0X00000007, 0X00000CD4, 0X02060006, 0X8922C5A0)Having thought I had got rid of the Malware, I am somewhat worried by the appearance of this screen and XP closing down. The reboots all appear to be normal.Anyway, as suggested by Quietman, I attach the DDS log. I do have HijackThis and can post the log if requested.Obviously, any help or guidance would be appreciatedDDS (Ver_09-05-14.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Gerald at 15:36:50.81 on 16/06/2009Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.11 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.... Answer:Trojan Agent, Stolen.data & others plus XP blue screen

Just noticed reading the DDS log that it says I have Comodo Firewall "enabled."

I am sure I had deleted this program as it clashed very badly with Kaspersky Anti Virus. Obviously there may be bits, or a Registry entry which remains?

The firewall I am using is ZoneAlarm (free).

On switching on my laptop yesterday I was faced with a blue screen error message which even after running chkdisk keeps on appearing, even when rebooting in safe mode.

The problem is I only have Toshiba recovery disks (not an XP disk - XP was pre-installed on the laptop) and they say on them using the recovery disk wipes the computer and I need to recover data on the hard drive before reformatting.

I've taken the laptop to the local repair centre and they say they have to reformat and dont do data recovery.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Answer:Blue Screen on Satellite P100 - need to recover data

Hello

In my opinion there are two solutions. Either try to obtain WXP installations CD and see if you can repair it using WXP repair option or use delivered recovery media and make a clean OS installation. After doing this you will have ?factory setting? again and everything will be OK again.
