Freezing and flickering of the screen on a T41

Question: Freezing and flickering of the screen on a T41

Hello I bought a used T41 about a year ago, and changed its hard drive from a standard 40 gb to a 120 gb one (dual boot WinXP/Ubuntu, did not use the recovery console to reinstall windows, rather used my own copy and downloaded the drivers from the Lenovo website). The computer worked fine up until a month ago, when, in the midlle of browsing, the display on the screen started to "shake" (kind of hard to describe, but was it was like a shearing and some fuzziness). I turned it off and turn on again and the computer would either not boot, or would boot normally and would show the same symptoms as above randomly (smtimes after 5 min, sometimes after 2 hrs). This was the case when the computer was plugged in (with or without the battery attached) or just on battery powe. I am startin to think that it might be a problem with the display adapter, which i think means i would have to replace the whole mobo. I am just posting here to see if anybody has any suggestions either via knowlegde or prior experience. Thankx in advance

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

oh, and i forgot to mention the most imprtant part. When the display was "shearing", there was no response from the computer (mouse cursor not moving, could not type), which seems to suggest that is not just the screen ( i have had it connested to an external monitor as well and had no luck either

Ook, this is happening to my parent's system, basically the logon screen will either freeze or when you do get to log on the 'Welcome' goes blurry and freezes also. If you do manage to logon then you get these little lines about 20 pixels long and no more than 1 pixel high flick onto the screen every few seconds.

Specs are:

Athlon 3500+
2GB DDR
On board geforce 6100
400w PSU
Vista Premium
Screen is a 3 day old 20" acer

The system itself is almost 3 years old, it originally came with XP but last november it completely screwed up and I only have a copy of Vista so that's why it has it.. I'm hoping this problem isn't hardware related but does anyone know what could be causing this? I'll need to dig out my vga adapter to try the screen on my rig in case it is just a faulty screen.

Cheers

Answer:Flickering and freezing screen

I would check the screen first then go from there. Very likely it could be the video card too.

A few weeks ago, my XPS 15 started flickering for about 1 second and then would freeze completely, couldn't move my mouse and if there was any sound playing before it would stop. It normally happens right after I open the screen and it wakes up (doesn't happen on boot, just when it was sleeping) but occasionally happens while I'm using it. I've tried reinstalling the graphics drivers (both the 960M and the 530) and that hasn't made a difference.

Hi,

I bought an XPS 13 (9343 / 2015) last year. It worked for 14 months without any major incidents aside from the constant freezing due to poor wifi drivers. However, 2 months after the warranty expired, the screen began to flicker. The flickering progressed to completely blacked out screen but the computer was still usable with an external monitor. Eventually the laptop began to freeze even when running on the external monitor. From there laptop stopped powering up consistently, beeping instead. Now the laptop is entirely unresponsive. It won't even start up.
This deterioration occurred over the span of 2 months.
The exact same issues have been documented on this very forum numerous times over the last year. It is a well known issue due to faulty motherboard construction and inadequate quality assurance testing.
I've contacted tech support on multiple occasions. The last time the agent confirmed that the symptoms are inline with a failed motherboard. I was told it would cost 1100 euro to replace! The laptop cost 1100 euro at year ago. In what universe would someone pay the same price to repair something that could be bought again, new? Upon asking to speak to a supervisor I was placed on hold for 30 minutes before being disconnected.
This is entirely unsatisfactory. I've been purchasing Dells exclusively for 16 years. I've recommended them to friends and family for 16 years. After the horrible support and build quality of this laptop I will never buy from D... Read more

Recently started having a problem in all programs running on the PC. It will randomly freeze up the current program running and the title bar will flicker for a few moments (anywhere from 15 seconds to a minute) then will be fine, until it happens again. This happens in any program currently active, have seen it occur in Internet Explorer, Chrome, Word, Excel, PhotoImpact Pro, among others.
It is very annoying and seems to be getting worse (happening more often). I have run virus and malware detection and cleanup. I have a Windows 8 OS.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just installed a new gfx card and when my windows loads up it takes longer than usual to load the desktop. When it's loading the desktop, my monitor will flicker on and off a couple of times before settling down. Also when I play games it will just freeze with the sound still being played and when it unfreezes my monitor will go off and come back on.

Anyone got any idea?

Thanks

what type of card/mobo? It sounds like drivers, but it could be a ton of different things.

Well I've amassed a plethora of problems.

I'll post my laptop specs below the list of problems.

Cursor and screen freezes, have to reboot several times to unstick it.

Get blue screen of death with different error messages if I jar the
laptop or move it too quickly.

Windows repair doesn't work. Starts, progresses, then error message.

Windows restore doesn't work. Starts, progresses, then error message.

Windows update sometimes can't update.

I get a white screen then I have to slap the laptop to get back to normal screen or it just will go back to normal screen or not.

I will get a black screen with a multi-colored hair thin line on left side of the screen.

Now, Windows start icon won't work.

Whirring noise from fan.

I'm on an old Gateway NV79 using Windows 10. Same problems with Windows 7 then upgraded to 8.1 then upgraded to 10. Same problems.

Checked monitor attachment but it seems solid.

I've got new battery but that's about all I've needed to replace. This is one excellent machine. Best computer I've ever had bar none. Thanks for any replies.

Hallo all, A couple of weeks ago my thinkpad started to act weird. The laptop freezes and the screen will go cr crazy, only possibility is to restart the laptop by holding the power button. My hardware configuration is:1x Samsung 840 Evo 250GB (Windows 8.1 installed) Internal Sata1x 1TB Harddrive (File storage) HDD Caddy12GB Ram (Tested no errors found)Intel i7 2630QMNVidia Quadro 1000mBetter cooling fan (04W1574)System is up to date First thing i tried was reinstalling the OS. After reinstalling the OS the problem still exists. Tried different drivers for the chipset and graphics but i don't know if they are to correct ones. Updated the drivers with Intel Update Utility. Checked the ram and this could not be the problem. When i looked in the system log i see a lot of errors like this:: The embedded controller (EC) returned data when none was requested. The BIOS might be trying to access the EC without synchronizing with the operating system. This data will be ignored. No further action is necessary; however, you should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS. There were also errors about ACPI but i can't see the logfile now so can't be more specific. After reading this errors i decited to reflash the bios firmware which went good. After all these things the laptop worked great for about 7 days. After the 7 days the problems came back. Please help me because i don't know where to search anymore. Problem persists with integra... I bought a refurbished laptop (hp 6930p elite) from an ebay seller last month. The laptop has been having display problems. I first noticed occasional flickering. It can be temporarily resolved by adjusting the angle of the laptop screen, but the flickering always comes back later. I connected the laptop to an external monitor and had no flicker problems, so I think I've counted out video card issues.

I've had occasional display freezing as well. Ie, programs still run, but the entire display stops or skips for a second or two. The problems (flicker and freeze) are most prevalent when I'm actually holding the laptop in my lap... I guess because it is a hardware problem that is disturbed by small movements?

I contacted the seller, and they said I could take off the front bezel and check the cable connections without voiding the 90-day warranty they offered. I reset the connections between the inverter the display panel and the backlight, but it didn't help.

Both the seller and I are trying to avoid me having to ship the laptop back to them for replacement or repair. (Costs them $ and leaves me without a laptop for a while) They've offered to send me a new inverter, but I don't know enough about laptop display mechanisms to be confident that the inverter is really the problem.

Just wanted to get some feedback or a second opinion on what could be causing intermittent backlight flicker and total display freezing.

Answer:Display problems: flickering / freezing

Hi and welcome to TSG.

This certainly sounds like an faulty inverter / backlight problem. I had the exact same problem on an old Fujitsu Seimens laptop... flickering screen which could be temporarily fixed by moving closing / reopening the lid. Over time it just got worse and worse until it eventually went totally.

Replaceing the inverter board (normally a pretty quick and easy fix) fixed the problem. If you have had it apart enough to check the connectors you shouldn't have a problem replacing the inverter board.

I just bought this laptop for about 1 month, the laptop work fine before. But after...I don't know maybe after the windows update, the driver make the screen flickering and some dots appear on the screen, sometimes the screen lagging and went black. I'm pretty sure it's because of the driver because if I disable it, everything is fine, but that is just a temporary fix, every games is unplayable when I disable the driver. I tried to reinstall it using driver from Intel, Windows, Lenovo but none of them work(newest)

I use this Laptop for school to work on programming assignments. The most intensive application this computer is running is visual studio. The bios is updated and all the windows updates are currently. I also used the Lenovo Campanion application to search for any other updates. The video link below shows the screen flickering. First off you should probably place another fan in the case, or another one on the graphics card. Your other temperatures appear to be normal. I was having issues like this awhile back. Try updating your graphics card driver, but use forceware. Here is the link for your card- http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.98.html . Hope this helps!

Hi
My Laptop is 13 months old Dell I7 5558, i was facing this screen flicker issue previously ,where i got my Laptop Screen replaced by you ,but now I'm facing the same issue .
Previously before replacing i used to have just few flicker, now flicker rate got increased even more & Screen Goes black which is really annoying.
Even at the logo Screen I 'm seeing Green & pink lines
Sometimes nothing appears on the screen just  flicker of Green & pink lines & black Screen After that.Where i should  to remove my battery  & place it ,to turn on my laptop in this case.
Problem is not related to software, if that was the case flicker should not be at dell logo screen.
But FYI my Graphic Card Drivers are already up to date.
I Guess the problem is at the hinges or with the monitor or maybe related to mother board itself.
when my laptop screen is less than 90 degree i can see few flicker, when it 90 degrees or more than that ,continuous flicker & black screen later as like monitor looses power nothing .

Any Other Information Required let me know.

Hi, I bought a newer revision of the Y50 that supposedly had all the errors fixed with it acc to my chats with Customer support (it left the factory at the end of June this year) I saw some flickering lines a couple days ago but it disappeared and assumed it was just something random. Today i opened it and red and black lines randomly flickered horizontally across the screen, and then the whole screen was shaded red. I am trying to figure out what the heck this could be, and as I am now overseas on deployment I am doubly worried the international limited warranty will not cover this and I will have to pay through the nose to fix this. Has anyone ever seen anything like this and knows how i can fix it ? is it a simple case of a connector thats not seated properly? Thanks in advance!

Hi Eclipze926,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with screen flickering in your Lenovo Y50-70 laptop.

As you have mentioned that the display flickers, does this issue persist when only on battery or when plugged in.

Connect an external monitor and check if there are any lines or the display flickering. Also try to reinstall the display driver and check for the issue.

Hi there,

I developed a problem with my desktop pc yesterday. I was gaming and the screen began to flicker then the game crashed - citing "rendering device lost". I tried to re-load this again and the same thing happened again, this time with a BSOD. I tried a different game and the same thing occured, took slightly longer though. Given it was late I went to bed.

Today on loading up the sign in screen was flickering lots, I entered my password and was met by a black screen. The computer continued to make fan noises as if it was working, but nothing on my screen. This happened again. On restaring my computer the crash report read

"Blue Screen.

BCP3 00000000000009ED

I've looked at the bug dump, but I was silly and did a system restore before this, so there's no bug dump.

The computer starts and runs fine in safe mode and without the graphics card in.

Since I've done a system restore
Cleaned everything again ( was pretty dust free to start)
Uninstalled and re-installed the graphics card drivers
Re-seated RAM and GPU
Done a memory diagnostic on my RAM
None of these have worked.
I've taken the graphics card out and it runs fine with the onboard GPU.

Hello everyone,Recently, I got a Lenovo yoga 14(with Nvidia Geforce 940m and intel(R) HD Graphics 5500) on windows 10. I have one problem with it which is the screen flickers on and off if I have software such as store, bing news, google chrome and microsoft word open on maximised screen. I've tried turning down the resolution, turning of panel self-refresh and updating the video drivers, but it didn't work. Also I've noticed that when the screen is flickering the mouse moves back to the centre of the screen. Instead of pushing the maximised button, if I drag the borders of the software window and make it full screen, it doesn't flicker at all. Some advice would be much appreaciated, Roger

My laptop Dell Inspiron 15R 5520(Core i3 2370M 6GB ram win 7 64bit)  worked perfectly from Nov2012-April2016.

Now the screen started flickering and jumping since a few days and there's a white dotted line that appears along the top of the screen that starts the minute there is any kind of display.
How do I figure out if the inverter on the screen is faulty or if it's the screen cable or the whole screen itself?
To satisfy my curiosity I opened up my laptop to find that the lcd cable was badly crushed under the screen hinge (definitely , a design/manufacturing issue! Will dell take responsibility?), and each time the screen was shut/open there was substantial pressure on the cable was what I noticed.
Unfortunately I'm out of warranty and I don't know what to do.
Please advise on fixing this issue.

I have a problem with my laptop the screen starts flickering black. I still can see everything normally this stops when I open the screen to the _maximum angle_ or when I apply pressure above the power bar on the screen round hinge in the middle of it I used to _carry my laptop sometimes from it's screen_ sometimes so I want to know what's causing the problem.

I ruled out the VGA because the laptop works normally if I connect another screen so it's either from the screen backlight, LCD, or some cables or connectors or the inverter does anyone have a clue?

plz help and reply soon

Answer:Satellite L505 - Screen flickering but another screen works

Hi danysafi,

You?re right: The problem is caused from the screen backlight, LCD or LCD cable but who should we check this without diagnostic tools?

With other words in this case you need help from an authorized service provider because they have special diagnostic tools to check the hardware. In my opinion that?s the easiest and fastest way and if your notebook is under warranty, the repair is for free.

Last but not least you can find a list of all ASPs on official Toshiba website. :)

Dear Lenovo community, In September 2014 I bought a Z50-70, and a few months ago after I installed Windows 10 several problems started.  First of all, whenever I start the laptop, or after I move it, half of screen (left side) stops working (shows lines and switches colours while I switch tabs), but it sometimes gets fixed after I push right on the place where the cable is connected with the screen (1-2 cm left of the middle of the screen; bottom part). Secondly, the screen sometimes flickers and at times it starts to go fully white until I move it. I don't know whether the problem is the screen, the cable, or there's also some software problem (the updated to Windows 10 maybe?). Could anyone please help me with this issue? Thanks very much.

Hi, I love the Yoga 2 Pro. But i have fews issues with it. Especially when used on battery. My screen flicker from time to time. The onyl fix i found was to close the lid to put the laptop to sleep and the reopen it. Not very convinient. An other issue I encounter is the screen blanking after a while when the computer is not in use. It's like the computer blank the screen to save battery power, but when you want to reuse it again, it won't start again. THe only fix is to hard reset the computer (eg : press 10s the power button) I am running a fresh clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro with all the Lenovo Drivers up to date (exept the BIOS one) If you could help me fix my issues. I think it's software related.Do you think i should put the BIOS update ? Does anybody ever try with a clean windows 8.1 install ? Thanks a lot,Romain

Hello! I bought a Lenovo Y50-70 about 7 months ago. After I have owned the computer for about 30 days my screen started to flicker. Was thinking it would go over and tried to update drivers etc. After another 30 days the screen goes black and won?t work at all. I tried to connect an external monitor and that works with no problem what so ever no flickering or anything. I was thinking then that it must be a problem with the cable to the monitor or the monitor itself on the computer. As I still have warranty on the computer so I deseeded to turn it on to the store where I bought it, and they did send it to Lenovo reparation center. Anyhow they told me it would cost 200 euro to fix the problem. And here is why. They need to replace the motherboard as its damage and that?s why the monitor won?t work and as I said it works fine on another external monitor. Apparently the damage is in one of the USB ports. I have a really hard time trying to figure out how one USB port (that works perfectly fine, and nothing wrong with it) can cause a monitor to go black. I would like some help with this and get an explanation how this works?Best regards

Answer:Screen flickering then dead (black screen) Y50-70

Hi Jonas_e84  ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Same here , strange to hear a USB port damage would affect the display , not unless that you use the usb port  as alternate output display. But this should not affect internal screen.
Conditions for systemboard repair for the display issue with external working ok if the port for the LCD cable is bad.

Hi. My computer has just started to act up on me. When I turn it on & it begins to boot, the screen begins to flicker until it defaults to the blue screen w/ the following messages:

STOP: OX00000008E/OX800000003/OXF74EE0EE/OXED02789C

F74EE0EE base at F74E6000

date stamp 480252C2

I reboot in safe mode fine. I then go back to the normal mode & the problem begins all over again. What does this mean? Thx much.

Answer:Flickering screen to blue screen warnings

A Stop OX8E BSOD, is usually caused by hardware failure. Either it is faulty RAM or a bad PSU. Download Memtestand make a Boot disc out of that and boot off of the boot disc you created and run the tests. Test each RAM stick individually, by taking one out if you have more then one. Alos go into the Bios and check the voltages, temps and fan speeds and post here.

Question: flickering screen

Hi, I was carrying my laptop the other day and tripped, dropping it on the floor, it seem alright at first but lately the screen has a lot of white lines that flicker most of the time, sometimes filling the whole screen and sometimes it just fills up completely with non flickering lines and just seems to freeze untill you nudge the screen, is this fixable or am i going to have to backup all my files quickly and start saving for a new one. I'm not intending on fixing it myself as I don't know what Im doing but it would really give me peace of mind to know I didnt completely break my laptop. Thankyou in advance to anyone that replies

I'm not sure it's the monitor itself, or the computer. The screen dims very slightly (barely enough to notice) then goes back to normal. It's been doing this for a half hour. And was perfectly fine earlier.

Oh, and it's an E-machines flat panel monitor. I am on XP.

my screen keeps flickering and changing sizes. does this mean i need a new monitor? if not what could the problem be?

Answer:screen flickering

more info is needed

LCD/TFT don't 'flicker' per say, however, the older CRT monitors can and do flicker, especially if you have the wrong screen resolution.

What is the operating system ?

What monitor ?

What is the graphics card ? ... may not be monitor at all

Are all drivers up to date ?

Desktop or laptop system ?

Make model of system ?

Bank details, nat ins num, address and a current bill to prove you are who you say your not.

Well, OK, maybe not the last one, but the other info will help us better to help you.

Question: screen flickering

My laptop screen keeps flickering and ive rebooted it and tried all the troubleshooting steps and even sent it off to get repaired and after all of this the screen is still flickering, it is still useable but very annoying as whatever i do on it the top and bottom of the screen keeps flickering. Very annoyed with the lenovo support as this shouldnt be happening and i thought it would of been fixed the first time round. I paid a lot of money for my laptop and its still brand new so i dont expect to see a small this like this happening this  early on .

Answer:screen flickering

Hi, Ally ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

There are a few possibilities, but it might indicate a hardware malfunction. It could be the video card (easy to test by trying a different video card) or the monitor itself. Have you tried different refresh rates (70 Hz or faster is best)?

Update us how it goes.

Question: Flickering Screen?

Hi, I seem to be having trouble with my HP Pavilion g6. I'm not entirely sure which Pavilion g6 it is as I'm not able to determine it using the laptop itself. My screen has been flickering on and off. It doesn't have any lines or distorted color lines or whatsoever. It just flicks back on and off. I cannot open any program/apps (right now I'm using a different laptop), and every time I do open a program it still flickers. I can't troubleshoot the problem, the screen flickering is in the way of every thing I do. Also I'm sorry, but I can't figure out the operating system. I'm just guessing it's Windows 8.Edit: I'm also unable to find the restart button, the only one thing close to it that I could do is turn it off. Please help. Thank you.

Question: Screen Flickering

I have a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS graphics card, Asus VW222 Monitor, Intel Core Duo 2 2.67GHz with 2 gig of Ram. Running Win 7

Every Since I loaded Win 7 and installed the graphic's card the monitor appears to not function correctly. Boots up in blue and black lines and yellow tint and if I'm lucky to make it through to the password screen and actually into the desktop, it is also yellow tint here and flicking flat out to the point where I can hardly see what is going on to turn it back off again.

I have trying swapping the graphic card over with another exact same model as mine, one my bother had and still have the same problem. I have checked to try? Any ideas!! Seems bizzar the monitor would flash now only when I have changed from Vista to Win 7, so I'm no overly convinced it would be the monitor as the problem?

This is just a stab, but i think your GFX card may be failing. Its something i see in my shop every day. It would work in safe mode somewhat due to the fact that the gfx card isnt being pushed.

Question: screen flickering

hello i have a hp pavilion laptop dv5000 series, i had it for almost a year now and just the other day i was on it the screen started to flicker a couple times. so i rebooted and it did not flicker for a day. but today when i turned my laptop on the screen started to flicker really bad and there where black lines going across the screen and the the image would fade in and this only happen when i power on. does anyone know what the problem might be?

Answer:screen flickering

Could be the screen is dying or the graphics card or integrated graphics is on its way out. You could try going to HP`s website and downloading the latest drivers to see if that helps.

My advice: less than a year old so still have a warranty on it, send it in for repairs.

I have a HP Pavilion g6 model g6-2254ca

Over the last few months I had small amounts of flicker when laptop was moved...giving it a tap or opening/closing screen more resolves it at least for awhile...it has increasingly gotten worst and worst...Right off the bat to me that means a ribbon in the screen or a lose cord is the culprit. I'm not a total useless computer user but at the same time not 100% confident to take it all apart and deal with it myself...although if I had to I could.

So I took it in to a local small computer repair place. He said he took a LCD screen from another computer which was known to be working fine and put it on mine and the flickering continued so he said the screen isn't the issue it has to be the Hard Drive. Which if it is ...its not worth fixing as this is a 600 hundred dollar computer and is 2 years old.

Even being 2 years old its never had issues with lagging, slow loading, program issues, its reliable and not glitchy at all never has been. I did recently buy a brand new asus transformer laptop a few months ago and I hate the damn thing. It's slow, glitchy really not user friendly. It seems as if they make newer computers cheaper and cheaper...I really don't want to embark on that journey of trying to get a mid grade computer that actually works. I want to try to fix my HP since I do enjoy actually using it.

That said I just don't trust that its a Hard Drive issue, and I took video and posted it on youtube I will p... Read more

Hello everyone:

I will try to describe my problem as simply as I can:

1) I have 2 monitors (1 screen hooked up to my Dell Inspiron Notebook)
2) My screens "flickering" is actually a problem where a section of the screen is enlarged for a few milliseconds before turning back to normal size.
3) I turned off TTM, but to no avail =(
4) I don't know if this has to do with my refresh rate

Can someone help me please???

Thanks! =)

Well just recently my video card gave out and found out the batteries, I'm guessing that's what they were, on the video card were starting to burn out so I'm using onboard. Did you uninstall the video card drivers and make sure that not only were the onboard ones installed, but also updated?

Hi there - My wife is having trouble with her Desktop PC - there a constant flickering that can be seen all over the screen - She describes it as "interference"

Its got Radeon X1300 series card because she plays Sims2 on it. I'm currently updating the drivers on it - but it seems to be a more intermittent problem.

Cheers - Steve

Answer:TFT Screen flickering

If it is not under warranty....re-seat the Video Card and blow the slot out before putting it back....

Also re-seat the monitor cables and check for any damage.

Re-install the video card drivers and chack for any updates

Question: screen flickering

I call it flickering or jumping around. When I am typing online or offline the screen keeps jumping around. It is doing it now. I hit the escape key and it stops but starts when I start typing again. Someone told me to open Task Manager and Processes tab and hit esc key when it jumps. That does not help. Sometimes it jumps once then again it will jump
25 times up and down. It dont always return to where I am typing. Be it an email, document, or whatever. I have a Laptop, Compaq Presario with windows xp. Just acts like it don't like what I am typing. Any ideas. I am not too savvy on repairing things. So don't get too technical. thanks for any solutions.

Answer:screen flickering

This is highly unlikely to be a networking issue, you need to deal with this on an O/S level.

I'll move this to the XP forum.

After loading the internet explorer version 9 beta I noticed some adds flicker and are not visible on my msn home screen. Some are also flickering and not visible. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on an HP Pavilion Entertainment Laptop. I have uninstalled and re-installed Adobe Flash Player and tried to change the refresh rate (not possible on this machine). Some videos (news) play fine some (youtube) do not.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,

Answer:Flickering on screen

I checked on a post about IE 9.0 and learned how to back out 9.0. This completely fixed the flickering problem so I think it definately was 9.0. I am staying with 8.0.

Answer:My screen keeps on flickering!

You can try downloading the latest VGA drivers for your model and see if that resolves the issue. To do this, you can follow the steps below:1. Go to http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers2. Type Aspire E1-470 in the box below "Search by Product Model" and click "Search"3. Click on your model number from the list that comes up.4. Once the details about your model are displayed, select your current operating system appropriately from the drop-down menu besides "Operating System".5. Now, go to "Drivers" tab and download appropriate" VGA" drivers depending on whether you are using "Intel" or "NVIDIA" card. I am not sure if the following link will help but still, if the issue persists, you may try using the troubleshooting steps mentioned in this link:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-performance/screen-intermittently-dims-a...

My computer screen at work has been hurting my eyes now for months. It hadn't done so for the first 8 months I worked there. But for the past two months it looks like everything is flickering.

I asked the boss' son (23 yr old who seems to know a lot about computers), and he says he doesn't see it flickering! I asked my boss and she said ask her son!

My screen at home is perfect, so it is not that my eyes have gone bad.

The screen at work looks almost like everything is concave (is that the right word?). Like the words are scooped in towards the computer instead of flat. I'm wondering if that is the problem, but I have no idea how to fix that.

What can I do to correct this problem? Can anyone help?

Thanks!
Sue

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

How old is the laptop?

Sounds like it's a bad connection to the motherboard or as you suggested a failing video card.

Question: flickering screen

hello. I have a dell inspirion 13 7000 series and have been experiencing A LOT OF FLICKERING.
I looked at previous post and attempted to change my battery saving options, doing some kind of screen test, and more. It's starting to get really frustrating when I have a lot of reading and work to do for school.
If I can get any advice it would be great, if not I am going to a tech center at school or geek squad at best buy.

Answer:flickering screen

Please list Dell model number and version of windows. Example: Dell Inspiron 7368, windows 10
In the meantime, I believe the "flickering" might be happening because of a corrupt (Video) driver, therefore I'd suggest you update the driver in device manager.
In device manager, stroll down to Display Adapters and then expand it. Right click driver and then update it.

Question: Flickering Screen

Hi everyone.
I've asked dozens of people about this, and nobody has a resolution. I hope you guys do. Because this is VERY irritating.

My screen flickers on and off (1 second intervals) when I play games.
Games like, Bad Company 2, Minecraft, Team Fortress 2, and Mass Effect 2.

It never flickers when I am at the desktop, messing around on the web.

It doesn't turn off, the screen itself turns black and back quickly. It will do this multiple times, sometimes a lot of times consecutively.

Here are some of my system specs:

System

OS - Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit
System - Gateway (Model: DX4300)
CPU - AMD Phenom 2, X4 810 Processor (~2.6GHz)
Memory - 8192MB RAM (DDR2)
DirectX V.: 11
Display

Name: ATI Radeon HD 5500 Series
Chip Type: Ati Display Adapter (0x68DA)
DAC Type: Internal DAC (400MGz)
Approx Memory: 626 MB
Display Mode: 1600 x 900 (32-bit, 60Hz)
Monitor: Acer X203H (DVI)
Driver Name(s): aticfx64.dll,aticfx64.dll,aticfx64.dll,aticfx32,aticfx32,aticfx32,atiumd64.dll,atidxx64.dll,atidxx64.dll,atiumdag,atidxx32,atidxx32,atiumdva,atiumd6a.cap,atitmm64.dll

PSU: 300 Watt

The entire DXDiag can be seen here:
http://pastebin.com/1WRQxp5B

I do not believe this is a heat issue.
My GPU Usually Runs around 30C - 42C

I don't think the screen is dying either.
It's worked fine, besides this.

Any help is appreciated.

Has this issue just started after a driver update to your Vid card ?? if so roll back your driver to an earlier version, or vice versa try updating your card to its latest driver here...

Question: Flickering screen

Hi,
I have a Dell XPS 13 (a little more then a year) and a couple of issues:
1. The screen is flickering. See this movie:
2. When I move the screen only a little (up and down) bit it's going into sleep mode and I need to close and open it or even restart. This is really annoying and I am having this a couple of months already but it's getting worse now.
3. Sometimes it does nothing anymore. Then I need to restart it. Mouse and keyboard is locked.
Hope somebody can help me.
Thanks.
Tom

Answer:Flickering screen

Tom,
I have the exact same issue. Call technical support immediately and lodge a complaint. What began as screen flickering for me (and many many many others on this forum) turned into complete motherboard failure. My laptop won't even power up.
I haven't see a solution to this issue aside from replacing the motherboard (and in many cases replacing it numerous times).

In need of some help ASAP!!!

I was on MS Word last night and as I opened up a new document page this Win Antispyware program started to download. It loaded onto my desktop as well as on the taskbar.

Ever since then, my windows keep flickering in and out and when I do system restarts none of the taskbar icons load up only the volume bar does.

What should I do?

Answer:Help!!! XP flickering screen?

Seems like a spyware or trojan attack ( Trojan.WinAntiSpyware/WinAntiVirus 2006.Process) .

Try accessing your task manager (if can), and see this process ACTIVATE.EXE exist. End it first.

Then Run a full scan using your antivirus and download http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html and scan as well.

Hello, Computer Hope!I've went through several topics looking for my problems, but I can't seem to find a solution. So, please stay with me as I try to explain my situation(s), there are several, unfortunately. First of all, a few months back (lets say around June) I got a blue screen, which resulted in me having to restart the computer. This happened twice. (Sorry, I don't have caps of it or of anything for that matter.)After the blue screens came the flickering- usually when switching users. Basically the screen is either, a) black and you can see an enlarged mouse flickering, or b) the monitor has these crazy grey lines and every thing is enlarged and flickering. This has happened quite a few times, and about forty minutes ago. I'm not able to do anything and I have to once again, restart. Also, sometimes the mouse will move on it's own accord (or just stick for several seconds), this gets annoying especially while trying to ink line-art. Help for that as well? And, last one, I swear. I'm using FireFox 3.0.3. When I click on the icon, it takes it at least a minute for the browser to pop up, and after it does my exhaust fan works overtime- like right now, it's extremely loud. Maybe I'm using a bad add-on?This what I'm using-Windows XP, Media center editionVersion 2002Service Pack 2-Anything else and I don't know where to find it.And I've been without any AntiVirus products for about a year now.Any suggestions on what I mi... Question: screen flickering

I have pavillion g6 2231tx. I am using it since 3 years. Since last one year I am facing this problem. Laptop screen flickers at some angle, if I adjust the screen angle then it stops but now it has become worst. Is there any way to fix it by myself? I don't want to go to service centers because I know they have only one solution i.e., change the display. And it will be very costly.

Question: Screen Flickering

Hello, from last 2 weeks ago. I have bought a new tower with Windows 8.1 on it. I have already owned the monitor before I got the tower.
But, I am having problems with the Screen Flickering. It only flicks like a shave (transparent grey bar shave), it does it every minute.. but not all the time.

My Graphics Card is successfully up-to-date, I have to do a check and update all the other devices to see if this problem was solved. But, it didn't.

My Graphics Card is: AMD Radeon HD 7310 Graphics
For more information about my Specs, please click it below that says "My System Specs".

Thank you for reading!

Answer:Screen Flickering

Are you using the correct refresh rate for your monitor in Control Panel? Check in Control panel // Appearance and Personalization // Adjust screen resolution > Advanced Settings > Monitor Tab > Screen Refresh Rate (I'm pretty sure your monitor uses 60 Hz, if it's already on that make it higher).

Question: Flickering Screen

So this has happened twice in the last two or three weeks or so, and tbh -- I am constantly in fear that it will happen again and somehow cause lasting damage to my system (the components of which I haven't had for very long I might add! Though the memory sticks and hard drives are by no means new)

I'm still kinda in shock that this is happening at all, and whether this is a problem with hardware, or drivers, or software or whatever it may be.

I have noted that when this problem occurs the sound continues to innocuously play like there is nothing wrong whatsoever. Also the screen flickers constantly but apart from that does not appear any different than it does in the picture.

It will do this until I hold the power button in to force a reboot, and then restart the computer -- whereupon it acts like nothing at all has happened and wishes me to ignore it's random and uncontrolled fits of bright colours and bad timing.

What do you guys reckon here? I just wanna get this issue out of the way so I can check it off my list. Thanks guys

Question: Flickering Screen

I have an 2000XP computer.  Today the screen started flickering.  What could be the reason for this.  The screen also appears to be dimmer than usual.

Answer:Flickering Screen

First thing to try - restart.Secondly, check your monitor refresh rate:1.   Right-click the desktop, click Properties, and then click Settings.2.   Click Advanced, and then click Monitor.3.   On the Refresh Frequency list, click the appropriate refresh rate (at least 60MHz), click Apply, and then click OK to test the new refresh rate.4.   If the test screen is visible, click Yes on the Monitor Settings dialog box. If the test screen is not visible, contact your hardware manufacturer to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue.5.   Click OK, and then click OK to close Display Properties.

Question: flickering screen

Hello,

since a few days I'm suffering from a flickering screen.
I've already ruled out faulty monitor and cables.
before this I had the problem that the main screen went black for a second every once in a while, I don't know if this is related to the current problem.
the flickering only appears on the main screen (if I set the other screen to be the main one, the flickering continues there)
usually it stops after a few seconds, but since today it just stays until I restart my pc
I'm using an R9 270X Royal Queen. (not OC)
And using Windows 7 Home Premium
(the sound is not coming from the screen, but from holding the cam too close to my headset)

Answer:flickering screen

If you switch around the cables where the monitors are plugged in at on the card, does the same display act up, or does the same port from the GPU act up?

Have you updated your drivers and CCC from AMD's website? Is the card OC'd at all?
