Compatible WIFI card for Thinkpad a21m, wifi orinoco silver no longer working

Question: Compatible WIFI card for Thinkpad a21m, wifi orinoco silver no longer working

Thank you for having this forum available. My husband passed down his Thinkpad A21M Type 2628-GTU to our son. The wifi card that was with it is a Lucent Technologies Orinoco Silver 11mbit/s t/n 03549501 p/n012938/c. When powered up last night, the ethernet was fully functional, but the wireless card didn't connect to the net. My husband assumed the Lucent card was bad. Is there something compatible I may buy to replace it? Do you have a suggestion on what he might have missed in trying to get it to work at home? He has used this laptop all over the country including at home before, so I would imagine he knows what he is doing. But, we do have a new service provider since the company upgraded his computer system. Thank you so much!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Compatible WIFI card for Thinkpad a21m, wifi orinoco silver no longer working

Welcome to the forum! Honestly, it's time to upgrade to a newer card anyway, at least b/g. Any PCMCIA wireless card will work with your A21m, it all depends on your router, and your personal preferences. Hope this helps.

I had a PCMCIA card for my lappy that worked fine until my roomate lost it. After beating him repeatedly, i sat down and read that orinoco makes the best WiFI cards out there. Catch is that you have to get the classic model. Im not sure if they still make them or not but however i do need a good wifi card. And if anybody knows how to find the "older and better" orinoco card could you help me out please?

Edit: Would this happen to be the one that is so great

I'm having a problem that's been on and off with my.wifi for a while. I have a Yoga 2 Pro and the WiFi card seems to disappear completely and I can't get it back without removing all the batteries and leaving it a while. It's not like it needs a driver update, it totally disappears as if it's not even installed and won't show up in any OS or even under the "rfkill list command". It appears to be completely failing. Thing is I've swapped it out and it seems to be some part of the operation that mounts it that isn't working. I notice that it installs into the power board and not the motherboard. Would swapping this fix it? Does anyone have any ideas?

This is my first time posting so i hope its in the right place. Here it goes:

I have just replaced my WiFi card from (BCM943228HMB) to BCM94352HMB. Before replacing my WiFi card i done the following:

1. Made computer boot in safe mode with networking.

After that i replaced the card, then booted into windows 10 (safe mode with networking) and checked device manager. Everything was OK (See attached picture). I then tried to turn on WiFi, but it does not turn on. Any help is appreciated.

Answer:WiFi not working after replacing WiFi card [BCM94352HMB]

Why are you booting into safe mode? I would connect a network cable to the wired network port, if possible for you. In regular windows, not safe mode, right click on the 802.11ac network controller and uninstall. Right click on the top device manager entry for the computer itself and select scan for new hardware.

I have an L440 ThinkPad laptop and WiFi has stopped working. The on/off feature on the F8 key has no effect what so ever. When running diagnostics I was asked to use the Intel PROset Wireless Utility to turn WiFi on or off. I could find some other PROset apps - but not the Wireless Utility - so I tried re-installing it from the Intel website. After installation (which I have now tried twice) ALL PROset apps have disappeared from my computer. They're just gone - and still no WiFi.After running the Intel Driver Update Utility it got even worse. The Wireless Virtual adapter driver stopped working and gives error code 10. Ideas, anyone?

Hello and thanks in advance. Please forgive any lack of knowledge I

may have. I am somewhat pc savvy but not much. My older desktop pc

doesn't have wifi built in so I have used an external usb adapter.

Most recently a ralink one. It started having issues and i would

disable then enable and would fix the problem. Then one day my pc

wasn't seeing it at all. I thought it might be the usb extension i was

using and plugged it directly into my machine that worked about 10

mins. I ran the troubleshooter and got this message "The wireless

network adapter is experiencing problems" so then i tried a second

adapter that has also worked in the past with the same exact results.

In device manager it says it is working properly. in the network and

sharing center under change adapter settings its there but it says its

disabled. when i click enable it says it enables it but no changes at

all. then when i click diagnose it says "There might be a problem with

the driver for the wireless network connection adapter" "windows

couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network

adapter" so then it says try these repairs as an administrator so i do

and it gives me the same error. The only fix i have tried that did not

work was going into computer management under services and got the

error "windows could not start the WLAN auto config service on local

So I bought my laptop, a Pavilion 17-f113dx a little over 3 years ago.  I am swapping the drive for an ssd drive and I thought while I go to all the trouble of disassembling the laptop that I would change out the wifi card with a dual wifi/bluetooth card to improve wireless performance. I understand that there may be a whitelist in the bios of compatabile cards for a laptop this old.  Where would I be able to find that list?  Or is there a solution short of installing a hacked bios?

Answer:Compatible wifi dual card for 17-f113dx

Hi: There is no whitelist, but there is almost a bigger problem... 1. The notebook requires extensive disassembly to get to the wireless card.  If you can overcome that, then #2 is the killer. 2.  On most of these newer HP notebooks with single band wlan cards, there is only one antenna connected to the card, and there isn't a second one present. A dual band card such as the Intel 7260 N or AC requires 2 antennas to work. It will take even more disassembly including the display panel area to run the 2nd antenna. Do not rely on the picture in the service manual which normally shows two antennas. You will need to physically inspect your notebook's situation before buying a replacement card. If it has two antennas, then you are good to go. I would recommend the Intel 7260 dual band N or AC card for your 3 year old notebook.

I have an IBM ThinkPad A21m. In the back, where the I/O panel is there is an ethernet RJ45 connector and a regular modem connector. I have been able to connect using the modem to internet in the past. However the ethernet has never worked. I was going through the books that came with the PC and apparently the modem and ethernet are on a combo card.

In the packet there is also a card, not installed in th PC. It is a Xircom card. I did a search online for the serial number and FRU number and this is where it took me:
http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-4PBMN7.html?doctype=Product information

I know little to nothing about laptop hardware and installation. I tried removing all the screws off the laptop but still could not remove the cover. Do I need to install this card? SHouldnt a laptop, espcially an IBm professional series one come with ethernet enabled? Am I missing something?

I would love any ideas on this one. I am actually fixing as a favor for someone. Thanks in advance.

I use the Windows7 Virutal WIFI when traveling abroad to give my Iphone an internet connection in my hotel.

I've had zero issues until this week. The WIFI connection is still showing up on my iphone, but I no longer get internet access (I only get an IP and subnet on the iphone now, no router or DNS info). The issue began (coincidence or not) as my MagicJack downloaded and installed a software update. MagicJack support says they aren't the issue.

I experimented with created an Ad-Hoc network...no change. I've removed and reinstalled the wireless card and driver. No change. I suspect some corruption with ICS, but haven't found any solutions online to fix it.

Hello, Last night, my mom's notebook all of a sudden lost its wifi capacities.  There is no more trace of a WLAN. The notebook is a HP Pavilion 15 PC. 15-n013ca would appear to be the serial number based on the box. It is not a router issue as it works fine with other mobile devices. Full reboot of router, then the notebook, changed nothing. Using an ethernet cable, the internet works on the notebook. But there is no more trace of wifi at all. It is weird. She tells me it happened suddenly, it was no longer working. The notebook is not in airplane mode either. What should I do?

My fiancee and I currently have the Dell Inspiron 17R SE laptop with the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230, and it has worked for a few months now up until the Monday of last week. While on the internet, my fiancee was noticing her wifi speed slowed down to a crawl. She performed speed tests to find out that the speed was not as high as it used to be. She updated drivers for the computer, as well as removed any clutter that would cause the wifi slowdown.
When we tried many options, they did not give us the results that we were looking for. Finally, after some process of elimination, we concluded that our wifi card needed a replacement. I don't want to get any old card to use and then find out that it doesn't fit or is not compatible with Windows 10. I have been taking my time to research what could be compatible to improve my laptop computer, but I have been coming up short.

What I would like to know is what wifi cards are compatible with our Dell computer so that we can get this replaced as soon as possible without having to pay out the nose for unneeded computer repair?

Windows 8.0 user with my recommended Windows updates up to date (except as removed by system restore mentioned below); Samsung NP550P5C laptop; Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that I no longer had a wired connection on my laptop, only the wifi. For ages I've run with both connected, it prioritized the wire, and I never had a problem, but the wired connection dropped out and will not come back to life even if I disconnect from the wifi. I spent a lot of time over the past few days doing online research, didn't want to get too aggressive but here is what I have tried:

Give the ethernet card's MAC address a static IP on the gateway (Actiontec router provided by Verizon)
Attempt to configure the IPv4 properties on the ethernet card to use the right default gateway and mask (these have gone south as you'll see in my ipconfig dump below)
ipconfig release and renew - renew never completed
New cable (that was my first try)
New driver
Fell back to old driver
System Restore back to the beginning of the month
The router is also new, Verizon sent me a new one which I installed at the beginning of this week. No improvement. I have to admit that I didn't dig deep into these settings while using the old router because it was also dropping wifi a couple of times a day and so I thought it was just failing.

At first it would not recognize the cable but then I read somewhere to adjust the speed and duplex from Auto detect to just anything else in the l... Read more

Hello everyone,

I just bought the Wireless N PCI Adapter (TL-WN851ND) from TP-LINK for my Windows 10 PC. It says that it's compatible for Windows 7/Vista/XP but it doesn't say Windows 10 on there. I thought that since it works on Windows 7, it will probably work on Windows 10 aswell, but since I inserted the card and have it running my computer freezes randomly and gives me a blue screen sometime later. The blue screen also says MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION. Sometimes when I turn the PC on it will freeze and go to the blue screen while loading Windows 10.

Is there any possible way to make this adapter compatible for Windows 10 without it freezing all the time which leads to me having to reboot the computer over and over again?

Hi Guys,

I'm currently trying to work out a problem regarding my WiFi card on my L670-14M.

The old Wifi card died on us, so I decided to buy a Intel 7620 card to replace it. This installed fine, and is recognized by the device manager, and I can now find the wifi card in the adapter settings menu.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to go any further. The wireless logo in the corner appears, but with a red "X" through it.

I've tried:
Disabling and enabling the cardUsing the FN+F8 key combinationUpdating the BIOSRunning the troubleshooter (It tells me to switch on the WiFi capabilities via a switch on the computer or the FN keys. I have no switch and the FN key combination doesn't work.I've also attempted to clear the TCP/IP stack to no avail.

All I can guess now is that the card is either incompatible with this laptop, or maybe there's something in the registry that could be changed/removed to help? I've tried several different cards too (as this is a work laptop and we've bought the cards in bulk) and it's not due to a faulty card.

Thanks,

YoYoMachete

Something like this. Would this one on eBay work or is there another card I would need. Thanks! -Joshua

Answer:Can I replace stock wifi card with an Intel 6235 Wifi/Bluetooth PCI-e card in my N580?

Hello and welcome,

Whatever card you use, it MUST have a Lenovo FRU number.  Cards that will pass the BIOS whitelist have been modified to provide a specific subsystem ID to BIOS.  Reputable sellers will list the Lenovo FRU if their card is compatible.

For example, a generic Intel 6150NX will not pass the whitelist, but a 6150NX with a 20002543 FRU number will pass.

Here's the list from the N580 Hardware Maintenance Manual:

Hello DerekZ,Check the HMM for X220t for the compatible WLAN cards.http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/detail.page?DocID=UM006561Also it is recommended to purchase option parts from Lenovo directly rather than 3rd party even though they are the similar model as the 3rd party options might not be in the BIOS whitelist.

Hi everyone,  I am new to this site, and new to laptops. I just bought a used IBM LENOVO T42 1,7GHZ 512MB 30 GB HD with XP PRO. I am confussed about the WiFi issue, as it seems like two cards are required (internal / external) to get wireless. I have been searching the internet trying to find out what external and/or internal card I need to buy, but have become frustrated because I don't understand the lingo. I bought my computer off eBay with this description:  IT ALSO COMES WITH WIRELESS CAPABILITY  TO CONNECT TO ANY WIFI NETWORK OR HOTSPOT AND CONNECT TO THE INTERNET  BY ADDING AN ADAPTER CARD. And the specs say this, Expansion slots: one Type III PC Card slot Can someone please shed some light on this for me, and tell me what to buy ? Thx, Scott

Answer:HELP ! WiFi Adapter Card for Thinkpad T42 ?

Hi Scott, I don't have a T42 so I'm shooting from the hip here.  Maybe this will give you something to look into while we are waiting for someone with a clue to chime in... From the description, you don't need to buy anything - except maybe a wifi router for your home network   Presumably there is an internal wifi card already installed.  The expansion slot is a generic slot into which you could install any number of things. You won't need it for wifi unless the internal card is missing or defective - and if that's the case you would be better off to just replace it and leave the external slot alone. EDIT:  I'm a moron.  Completely mis-read the part that said "by adding an a adapter card".  Sorry about the noise. Poke around in device manager and see if it  shows a wifi network adapter.  Look for Access Connections in the windows quick-launch tray, launch it, and see if it knows about wifi.  (This is where I'm guessing a bit - did the T42 have Access Connections???) A head-up: you are likely to get punted over to T61 and prior T series ThinkPads  .  This forum is for T400/T500 and newer. Z.Message Edited by zoltanthegypsy on 03-13-2009 06:38 AM

The Lenovo W700 I ordered shipped on August 19th and is somewhere in customs as I post this. I discovered the price has dropped by almost $300 so I requested a quote and called Lenovo Customer Service to request a price match. I was able to order every component on my original system the same with the exception of the WiFi option.  My system is configured with     42X5669  SBB INTEL WIMAX+3X3WIFI  - This option is not currently available       Lenovo states in order to price match the parts must be identical; no exceptions, even if the price difference is $1.00.The option available now is - 42X6325 SBB INT.WIFI LINK5300 I have 21 days from August 19th to request a price match but unless all options are exactly the same Lenovo will not match the price. I was told that if the exact same card is not offered again, along with any other items not available when I request a quote for a price match, I am out of luck. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Hello, No matter what I do, I  cannot get the wifi to work on my ThinkPad T420s running Windows 10. It has never given me issues until randomly I set my computer down and came back to it to find a red x by the icon on the bottom right. I've already tried the radio switch on the right side, and I've tried fn+f5 to no avail. I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers and I've even reinstalled Windows 10. In device manager, the wifi adapter (intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205) shows up just fine, and says "This device is working properly" in properties. Honestly, it seems like it's behaving as if I have turned the radio switch off but that is not the case. Any help would be appreciated. Ben

hiI have thinkpad E531 the wifi connection is so bad it connects then after short period disconnect then reconnect all the time i tried fixxing the software but it does not work please help what might be the problem P.S i changed my keyboard to exclude that the function button is not working\ thanksNoor

Answer:thinkpad E531 wifi is not working

Hi noorissa,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

There are a few things you can try, it may hopefully fix this issue. The first is to navigate to Control Panel > Device Manager and open the tree for Network Adapters. Right-click on your Intel wireless card and select Properties. Once here, select the Power management tab from the top-right. Make sure that the box next to Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power is unchecked. Select OK and Apply to save the changes.

The other thing that may help is to navigate to Control Panel > Programs and Features. In here, find the Intel Management Engine utility and uninstall it.

Also, please make sure all the drivers and the BIOS is updated to the latest versions, to find the same please find the link given below:
http://support.lenovo.com/in/hi/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-edge-laptops/thinkpad-edge-e5...

Please write back, whether the above steps helped you.
Thank you, have a good day.

I have a ThinkPad S1 Yoga and have been having trouble with my wireless card recently.  Often times, I will put my computer to sleep and when I wake it back up the computer fails to recognize the wireless adapter.  The only way I have found to solve this problem is to restart the computer (which, as you can imagine, is frustrating when I have multiple things open on my desktop).  Upon restarting the laptop, the computer recognizes the wireless adapter and allows me to connect to a wifi connection, but upon putting it back to sleep and waking it up, the same issue occurs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga Wifi not working after sleep

I have exactly the same issue. Some times even when I shut down the laptop and switch it back on after while, the wifi adaptor is disabled. This is also shown in the Lenovo solution center as the Intel Dual Band Adapter disabled. And what I normally did is go to the device manager, discable the wifi adapter and enable it again manually. then it works fine. Hope Lenovo can solve this problem.

Answer:[Thinkpad T410s] wifi not working - HW issue

First I would check in Device Manager (START/ RUN  "devmgmt.msc) and under Network Adapters, see if the WiFi adapter is listed, and if so, see if it is enabled (right click and select Enable/Disable) and if not ,enable it.   If it has a yellow exclamation point in front of it, try to update the driver (right click and select "Update Driver.   You can also uninstall the device, selecting the box to remove device driver software, and then let Windows re-detect the card and install a new driver.. If it is missing from device manage, you may have accidentally jarred it, or one of its connections loose.    See Page 103 of the ThinkPad T410 and T410i Hardware Maintenance Manual linked below on how to remove/reinstall it and see if that helps.   If not, the card is replaceable, and are not too expensive. ThinkPad T410 and T410i Hardware Maintenance Manualhttp://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/63y0535_01.pdf Good Luck

As many owners of a Thinkpad S531, I am not very happy with the Wifi performance of the built in Intel Centrino N 2230, especially after upgrading to Windows 10 (x64). What I have done so far: Turned of Bluetooth (Windows Connection center plus deactivating the device in the device managerTurned of the option Computer can disable the device to save energySet maximal performance / energy in the Windows energy settingsIf anybody knows more hints / tipps / tricks to get a better WiFi performance, I would appreciate to read about it. From the WiFi environment, there is a strong AVM Fritz Box router (450Mbps on 2.4 and 1.300Mbps on 5.0) next to an extending repeater (300/867 Mbps). Honestly, none of the device is facing a WiFi connection problem (iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, several Laptops and Wifi enabled devices). Could you, Lenovo support, provide me a list of compatible 2.4GHz/5GHz Wifi cards? If possible, a recommendation for a specific device would be great. Is there any guide for replacing the WiFi card? Thanks in advance.

I'm considering buying an IBM X40 netbook running W7, which comes without wifi. Since I need wireless I plan to also purchase one of the many inexpensive add in wifi cards sold on eBay. I just wonder how easy it is to install one of these things, and do the X40's typically come with an antenna already there, to hook the card to?

Really not sure if they include an antenna or slot for the card, or even what time of slot it would be.You would probably be much better off getting a PCMCIA WiFi card and using that.

Hey all,

I bought a TPY from Newegg, which shipped with the Intel Wireless-N 7260. The laptop finds and connects to my home network fine, but can't find my work WiFi network at all. I've tried a few different drivers to no avail. Would buying and installing the dual band version of this card, or getting the Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 make a difference?

And if so, can someone double check that this is the right part? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833106190

I know there's a whitelist in the BIOS, but I assume that if other models ship with the AC card then I can swap it in.

The model type number is 20CD-0033US S/N **********

Answer:Manually upgrading Thinkpad Yoga WiFi card

Hello and welcome,

The whitelist requires the correct model and a Lenovo FRU number.  That NewEgg card looks to be generic Intel and won't pass the whitelist.

The  FRU's are available in the TP Yoga part list:  http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/yoga_fru_bom_20131107.pdf

I'm having a hard time figuring out which one is dual-band.  Hopefully someone else here on the boards can provide info.  Price and availability is going to be an issue

Before you go down that road, have you verified that your work wifi is 5GHz-only, and that there isn't some other problem?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E431 Wifi Card Upgrade for AC support?

Hello and welcome,

Something to keep in mind about the whitelist:  a card must be a whitelisted model and have a Lenovo FRU.  A generic card - even if the model is listed - won't pass.

The FRU list is here:  https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/e431_fru_list_20130430.pdf

I don't think any of the listed cards are AC, but please double-check that.

I experienced a bizarre problem today and although I've resolved it now I thought I'd post it here just in case someone else experiences the same issue. The issue was in regards to WiFi not working properly on my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga S1. After a restart my computer's internet (with WiFi on) would work for a few minutes then it would stop. Long story short, I tried various things, and even uninstalled Norton and other software which I thought may have been a culprit but still the same issue. I also used a USB to Ethernet port (since there is no built in Ethernet port in the ThinkPad Yoga) and connected my computer with a cable and disabled the WiFi to see if it was the wireless hardware not working. Unfortunately still the same issue. Finally I noticed in the Windows Task Manager a process called "Discover.exe". It turned out this was using some noticeable amount of CPU and wondered what this was doing as I hadn't seen that before. I found out that this was a piece of software bundled in with my computer called Lenovo EMC Storage Connector. I'm not sure why it was running but I ended this process. Viola, suddenly my internet was working again! This time no problems.I uninstalled this software utility to make sure this doesn't cause this issue again. I can't understand why Lenovo bundles this software but this seems to have a serious defect and has cost me hours of trying to work out what was going wrong. I hope this is hel... So, I need a dual band + BT wifi card that will work in an Edge E130. Yes, i've already been directed to the stupid "FRU" and "Supported wireless" lists. The FRU list isn't helpful and the "Supported wireless" list is a complete lie. (A supposedly supported card is "unsupported" and halts at POST) So what's the exact model card I need to get and where can I get it from? (Or who do I contact to get the Intel Advanced N 6230 added to the BIOS whitelist) Failing this, i'll be returning it/demanding a refund (if neither are forthcoming, i'll be issuing a charge back on my CC). Under the NZ Consumers Guarantee's act , if Lenovo are listing a card as compatible and it's not, then I have various legal avenue's to persue or i'll just issue a charge back and go buy a laptop from another manufacturer that aren't assholes about what I can do with my own **bleep** hardware.

Answer:Require dual band + BT wifi card for Thinkpad Edge E130

The FRU list is necessary.  If a card isn't sold by or for Lenovo it will fail the BIOS whitelist test.

As an example, a generic Intel 5300 will fail.  An Intel 5300 FRU # 43Y6459 will pass - at least in a machine that has that FRU whitelisted.

It isn't in the PCI ID that I can see. My Lenovo-branded 5300 has the generic Intel ID. It may be in the subsystem ID or in some pixie dust that Lenovo sprinkles in the firmware - I don't know the details - but a Lenovo-compatible 5300 is not the same as a generic one.  Searching for a whitelist vs PCI ID won't get you any farther than the FRU list would.  If a card would pass the whitelist, it is already branded with the FRU.

If you're shopping the aftermarket, rather than Lenovo sales, you need to shop by FRU along with card type.  Legit sellers will list the FRU # along with laptop compatibiliy.

You  (and I) might wish it were otherwise, but that's the reality.

Hi, I just purchased a lenovo thinkpad yoga 14 a month ago , I was a bit regret that I did not upgrade my graphic card to NVIDIA GeForce 840M 2GB and my current graphic card is Intel HD Graphics 5500. I was wondering is it possible to upgrade my graphic card to  NVIDIA GeForce 840M 2GB? I will back to china for 8 months placement next month, is it possible to upgrade my laptop in china rather than in uk? (still need it for my exam really...) and my wifi is slow as well.. i have to get a adaptor to plug the network cable to get the normal speed, i have three lenovo laptops in home and none of them have that problem. Anybody know why?

Answer:Lenovo thinkpad yoga 14 upgrade graphic card and wifi problem

I wouldn't gamble on a successful ending. Wait to replace it after your exams. Upgrade your warranty if necessary to make it last longer. Because it will be an expensive upgrade.

Hey everyone,I'm in the process of installing Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) on my ThinkPad 13 from 2017 (no interest in running Win10 at the moment) and man has it been a wild ride. At the moment, I've been able to install Windows 7, get the USB 3.0 ports working, as well as Bluetooth, the built-in camera, and a few other things, but I haven't been able to find compatible drivers for the onboard graphics, wifi, or ethernet. Without AERO glass and an internet connection, I might as well go back to Windows 10...! If anyone could point me in the right direction towards getting these features working, I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks!

Microsoft Research Virtual WiFi helps a user connect to multiple IEEE 802.11 networks with one WiFi card. It works by exposing multiple virtual adapters, one for each wireless network to which connectivity is desired.
Virtual WiFi uses a network hopping scheme to switch the wireless card across the desired wireless networks.
Available at Microsoft.

Hello,

I have recently bought a new pci wifi lan card (Ralink rt61 turbo) and have plugged in and installed drivers. Initially the drivers the company I bought it from told me to install didn't work, but after some googling found the correct drivers and downloaded from Ralinks website. However these didn't work either.

When using the Ralink wireless utility it says that the card is disconnected, however in device manage it is both connect and the correct drivers installed and everything is perfectly fine.

I ignored the wireless utility and hoped that windows 7 would still be able to use the wireless card as past experiences have shown to be true. This case however I get nothing. Windows 7 says that the wireless card is experiencing problems, it doesn't show any of the routers that should be shown.

I have been looking around a lot and there have been several drivers that should have worked and they haven't.

I would have thought that the antenna is broken or the card doesn't work however when I use it with ubuntu instead of windows 7 it works perfectly fine without any hassle, so the card is definitely working.

Any advice that anyone can give on how to resolve this would be very welcome.

Thanks

Aieden

I experience the following problem with a new one week old Lenovo X220 built with Intel Advanced-N 6205: After 3-5 hours it disconnects from a wifi router and would not be able to connect to it until I reboot the router. It happened the first time on Friday, I was connected to our Verizon FIOS router and after 5 hours I lost connection and won't be able to connect for 2 hours trying every possible thing until I rebooted  the router, what I didn't have to do with countless number of other laptops/cell phones. Now X220 loses wifi connection every 3 hours and won't be able to connect until the router is restarted. All other devices in a house work perfectly fine, my roommates probably already hate me for rebooting the router. Router: Actiontec M1424WR (Verizon FIOS) Other devices which were and still are able maintain connections with this router for many hours w/o similar problem:- my old Dell Latitude E6400- my Samsung Captivate cell phoneand bunch of other HP laptops, macbooks etc. What I tried and what did not help:- rebooting X220- turning X20 off/on- installing the latest drivers for Intel 6205 card for the Intel website- installing/uninstalling Intel Wifi tools and Access Connections- restoring from a backup (not a complete factory setting restore)- setting DNS/IPs manually for IPv4 and turning off IPv6 I tried to collect some logging with netsh tracing and it only tells that the driver disconnects during acquisition. Some clue I dis... Answer:Wifi issue with X220 (intel wifi card); It stops connecting to a router after 3 hours

When it is reproducible in Win 7, went to Ubuntu Live CD and everything works there. So the problem is either inside:- router- Win 7 Intel 6205 drivers including shipped and the latest one  I don't think it is that low level though as I thought, as in Win 7 it tries to reconnect each time disconnecting during "Identifying Network" stage, and setting IP, gateway and DNS manually do not help.  UPDATE: I was able to update Verizon FIOS router to the latest firmware and switched it from WEP to WPA just in case.

Hi Everyone, I've purchased 2 days ago an X301 and downgraded to WinXP SP3 from Win7 using the Rescue & Recovery Disc that came with the unit. Everything is working fine except the wireless adapter (Intel WiFi Link 5300agn). I cannot find it in the device manager and in Net Connections (Ctrl Panel). T/S done:The current setting of Wireless LAN in BIOS>Security>I/O Port Access is already enabled as well as the Wireless switch at the back but still not detected. I added the adapter manually in Add Hardware in the Ctrl Panel as Intel WiFi 5300 AGN (Device status: Code 10 This device cannot start). Then I downloaded and installed the latest driver (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70496.html) but still not working. I tried using Vista driver as well but still no glory. I tried also the latest driver for WinXP from Intel but still not working. Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello there I'm a complete newbie so please be patient and gentle with me I'm no computer wiz either, my brother kindly gave my son a Lenovo thinkpad X200 Type 7459-VEY it came with a fresh install of Win 7 pro 64bit activated as he replace the hard drive, but there was 2 PCI conflicts I managed to sort those out, but when trying to get wifi it gives me nothing just says no connection. I made sure it was switched on from the side nothing pressed Function & F5 still nothing, my brother said to try other drivers of which I've done in device manager it shows wifi as Intel (R) Wifi link 5100 AGN nothing seems to work everytime I delete the driver it self installs but still nothing. We can't afford to buy my son a new laptop so this was a blessing as my son desperately needs it for school so we would be really greatful for any help that could be given. One other strange thing when I put the type number in is does'nt find the laptop and when I brought up the list with 100's of them there was no type like mine? So can't get the exact drivers I need. Thank you in advance and so hope someone can help. Kind Regards Skavillekrew

Hello Guys! I'm New To Dell Community Here . I wanna ask a question regarding the WiFi problem in Dell N5050 Laptop.
So, this laptop is actually a Ubuntu one but, I got this thing from my relative with Win 7 Home Premium x64 installed. All stuff are working fine.
So one day, I installed Remix OS along with Win 7. In Remix, I get an notification showing "USB Drive is corrupt click to fix" and I clicked and formatted it as it said. Then, my hard drives disappeared in Remix.
I felt weird and restarted my system.
And my system partition is gone. No OS in HDD. :(
I checked all solutions and even through diagnostics, it said my HDD has no problems.
So, I reinstalled Windows 7. This time I don't have a Win7 disc from Dell or anything official stuff related to that.  I've an Unofficial and Modified Windows 7 Eternity Disc. So I went through and installed it, which really was Win 7 Ulitmate x64 (No Service Pack)
I had C: and E: drives now, there's only C:
I installed all those drivers as said but the problem still stood with the wireless or the WiFi driver
Ethernet/ wired connection is working fine, no problems at all.
So here's the problem:
The WiFi driver goes through the setup and says like this:

And then, it disappears. In device manager it also says, network adapter has no drivers.
When look the system info, it also says Model Number is to be filled by O.E.M and so, windows can't find drivers for my system.
Also while ins... Read more

Hey guys,

So, what i'm trying to do is create a wifi hotspot using my computer. In other words, turning my computer into a router. I'm wanting to do this so i can use my ipod at home instead of only when i'm around other wifi hotspots.

My computer is running off of a wired router, so that i can play online on my PS3 as well. I was told wifi doesn't work well with Ps3's normally so i just bought a wired router. So, the mainline internet cord is plugged into a wired router and then another line runs into my computer.

For some reason, after i make an adhoc connection, the computer is not sending the required information to the iPod so that it connects to the internet.

I've tried entering in the information into the Static tab in my ipod as well, and still only get Local Connection instead of Local and Internet.

This is what my connection looks like through the router using ipconfig /all:

Answer:Creating Wifi hotspot with built-in computer wifi card.

Hi Cromsy,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Unfortunately, it isn't as simple as that. You are connected to the router fine with your computer, but that tells us nothing about the ipod because wireless is off (but that's not the whole story either - you need something extra to do what you want). The following article should tell you what you need and how to do it: How to Connect iPod Touch to Windows 7 Ad-hoc Wireless Network. Although it says Windows 7, there are procedures for Vista as well (and the software will work with Vista).

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

I have recently upgraded my office laptop (Previously Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium) to Windows 8 Pro online. Installation worked fine and Windows 8 booted - on my next day to office, I realized that it does not work properly with my Office Mobile Wifi Router. On first I thought something's wrong with router, however it's working fine with other devices, tablet and phone, just like the previous day hence realized this is some driver issue with wifi adapter driver on my laptop. Following is brief information about my machine details and what I tried. Kindly provide me help asap. i3 machine with 6GB RAMLenovo Thinkpad Edge E420Wireless LAN - Broadcom 2x2 11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter The Wifi is working fine with my home wifi network (ADSL2+ Broadband) but just the mobile wifi router. Through some forum I thought I should revert back to Lenovo provided drivers "however everytime I try to uninstall driver or disable wifi adapter, it gives PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA blue screen error and restarts computer" I believe it has something to do with improper wifi settings during Windows 8 Installation but could not figure out what to do. Any help would be greately appreciated...!!!

Answer:Wifi adaptor not working with mobile wifi device after upgrading to Windows 8 Pro

Hi, ritmehta

I think you're on the right track with the wireless settings, since the router works for everything else connected to it. And to hopefully stop the occurrence of the error and associated blue screen, I would recommend trying to boot into Safe Mode with Networking. This should allow you to be able to uninstall the device without the computer going into a blue screen.

To enter Safe Mode, either restart your computer or start from a cold boot. Begin tapping F8 repeatedly at the splash screen and continue tapping it until you see a menu appear. There should be several options. Select Safe Mode with Networking. This will boot your machine only using the core drivers and devices, as well as the network ones.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes
Adam

hey Alphapoint, try this, uninstall the Wifi LAN drivers. let Windows install its generic drivers.test your connection with the generic drivers. See if that works, then install the drivers from our support site but before you install it, go to MSCONFIG and set your unit to Diagnostic mode first before installing.

Hi First of all there is an option in Device Manager; VIEW; Show hidden devices  The faint entries are hidden, like my Zyxel G202 because it is disconnected.   Also.... As an adminstrator, in a Command Prompt Window, typegetmacThis will list MAC addresses for those items that are present, and may not be connected.A good number would be 3,1 x Ethernet1 x Wi-Fi1 x Bluetoothand then typeipconfigand in the long list look for named devices have a matching MAC address.Along with Device manager this is a way to determine the number of devices. additionally type netsh wlan show driversnetsh wlan show interfaces and report the results please.

So, you can view wireless networks when the card is inserted into a PCI slot, but it does not show up in the device manager?
