T61p putting itself in sleep mode while gaming

Question: T61p putting itself in sleep mode while gaming

I got my T61p since January and I'm pretty tired of this issue. I've read on the net that it is an issue with some laptop that has a defective motherboard when using two stick of memory (which is my case). Is there any mean to get this fix? Everytime I start to game for a little while, I have to use a lapcool or else it shut itself off. The heavier the game, the faster it happen. So please....

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For the past week my computer will sometimes put itself in sleep mode while I am using it. It doesn't matter whether I'm playing games, word processing or on the internet.

Answer:Computer Putting Itself In Sleep Mode

Could be a hardware problem. How old is it? Are all the connections okay?

Is it working off a battery? Is it set to shut down when the battery is low?

I recently purchased a Sony Bravia XBR55X900E tv and I connect my pc to it via HDMI.  Here's is my setup:

Dell XPS 8700 connects to HDMI 2 on Sony TV.
My TV receiver connects to HDMI 1 on Sony TV.
My Sony AVR connects to HDMI 3 on Sony TV, strictly for audio purposes (ARC).
Logitech Harmony one universal remote.

My issue is this:  Whenever I switch between activites (example PC to watching TV), after the TV switches to HDMI 1 from HDMI 2, this puts my Dell into sleep / standby mode.  If I press the power button, it lights up like normal.  If I go back to the PC activity, again once the TV switches from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2, the computer again goes into this "sleep" mode and I again have to press the power button to take it out of it.
All of my pc settings are set to NEVER with respect to monitor or PC going to sleep / standby mode.  Prior to this TV I had my pc connected to an older plasma TV and this never happened.
I contacted Sony to see if it something with their Bravia sync but the person said that everything looked good from the TV's end.
I'm hoping that someone has come across this and can steer me in the right direction as it is really frustrating and I don't know what else to try.

I just got a brand new laptop with Windows Hello. It's very useful for logging in, but my laptop now goes to sleep every time I leave my desk. The red light next to the infrared camera blinks often when I'm using my laptop (which is also pretty annoying), and then if I get up, even for a few minutes (to grab a snack, notebook, etc.) my laptop goes to sleep. I'm pretty computer illiterate, but I suspect that the camera is still looking for me while I'm using my computer and then decides my laptop needs to sleep when it doesn't see my face anymore. Is there any way to change this? I like not having to use a password, but the red light and going to sleep is annoying, especially since I tend to get up from my desk a lot just to stretch. It also seems like having the camera on all the time would drain the battery pretty quickly. Am I way off base here?

Hi, I've been searching the web for the last few weeks with no luck. I even called Lenovo Tech. Support for a solution but they are telling me to update drivers, run Pc Doctor and some other silly things like that. The issue appeared after I sent my laptop for service and they replaced the main board, which had been working flawlessly until it got bricked after a BIOS update (do it carefully!). When I leave my T61p in sleep mode for a while it shuts down and it appears like bricked. No lights, no response to any button/key... even if you plug in the electric cord. Fortunately I found somewhere that if you remove the battery and then plug in the electric cable it turns on the led on the cover and you can make it work. You get the message that the computer wasn't shut down properly and you lose all your work but at least you can start working again. But if you don't have the cable at that moment then you are in trouble. Firstly I thought it was the battery level getting too low while in sleep mode but I checked many times it was over 40% and it's happened at 70% a few times. Then I thought it could be the battery but Lenovo sent me a new one and nothing changed. I'm pretty sure it's not Vista because it never happened with my first board. Even that I reinstalled Vista completely and nothing changed. I've tried with nearly every compatible BIOS and drivers. I feel alone with this problem and nobody seems to be able to help me. I need to sol... Read more

Answer:T61p shuts down when in sleep mode

it sounds like there could be a problem with hibernation.   vista configurations are set to hibernate after a specified duration of sleep.   if you have a problem with your memory then hibernation will break. i'd suggest testing your memory using something like memtest86+.   if your memory checks out then you can disable hibernation, although that won't solve your problem if you want to hibernate your system. did your previous system work with hibernation?

Just bought Lenovo notebook with Windows 10 Home.

On my old VISTA laptop, when I put my computer in sleep mode and then woke it up, I could always view my connected MP3 player and its files.

When I do the same with my new notebook, I have to unplug and re-plug the usb connector in order to view the mp3 files.

I tried fixing by going into device manager, power management for the USB hubs, and unchecking the "allow this computer to turn off..." setting.

I alsodisabled this:
I appreciate help, thanks

Answer:Putting computer in sleep mode stops viewing my connected mp3 player

If you disable USB Selective Suspending and uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power', your MP3 shouldn't have any problems. Perhaps double check witch device you unchecked.

The fix turns out to quite simple. The instructions can be found at the bottom of this Google blog: I did not follow them exactly... I stopped and disabled the WZC service, backed up the files, copied over them., then "shutdown" and restarted.  The enabled and started the WZC service and restarted once more. All seems well!

Hello. Just like the title says, I am having freezing issues with a $1700 PC. It's actually unbelievable. I didn't pour all my money into a system just to have it not work properly. There is no logical reason it should be freezing. I have enough RAM, amazing CPU & GPU, 750 W PSU, ect. It only happens when I wake my PC from sleep mode as well. After that I force it off by holding the power button, and then it takes 2-3 more hard resets to get it working... Someone please help!

Hi guys, i've had an issue since yesterday. My missus has downgraded me from the 46"

So i went out and purchased a second hand 15.5" lg monitor and a new vga cable, as before i was running via hdmi lead.. So everything was going fine untill i tried to play bf3, when i click on the bf3.exe my monitor enters sleep mode??

The game music can still be herd, and the pc seems responsive as my keyboard is still lit up and cap locks, numlock still responsive. Only way out is to hard reset.

I've gone inside the pc and removed the little dust that was there
Ive made sure pc is set in high performance mode
Made sure hibernation and sleep is off
Made sure vga cable is fixed
Checked driver for updates
Ran cc cleaner to insure no unwanted registary causing issues
Ran gpuZ to check temps (idle 32, gaming 57)
Tried unclocking my card
Tried raising fan speed manual to 100%

Yet it still happens, i've never had this issue before i got the monitor yesterday, and i know the gpu is not overheating, so do you think the monitor itself is the issue?

Tested games:
Working on highest settings:
-Black ops2
-Transformers foc
-DayZ (high not ultra)
-The warZ
-Portal 2

Games that shut down monitor:
-Crysis 2

The games that fail put the monitor into sleep mode as soon as the .exe is clicked.

This is actually a continuation of a previous thread, linked here: a while i just gave up on it and decided to live with the crashing. This new crop of problems, however, has raised my ire.

Most frequently problems occur when gaming. In some cases the screen will freeze, and the system will lock up. Other games(TF2), however, cause the screen to either scramble such that the display shows multiple angles cut together. There's often also an audible screech of static accompanying this disruption. After I close the program, other programs begin crashing (mumble, chrome,) and almost nothing will open properly.

The computer also fails to come out of sleep mode correctly. After entering sleep mode, I can only get the display to come out of it if I hit the restart button. At which point, it goes through the start up (BIOS splash screen and all) but will display my previously open programs. Alternatively, hitting the restart button causes it to restart and crash.

I have tested the ram sticks both separately and together. In both cases, it has gone through 3 passes of the tests. I used prime95 to test the cpu, cleaned the heatsink after the temps were high, performed the prime test again, and observed reasonable temps. The video card that was in the system previously was removed and replaced with a 7850. Really at this point, I'm thinking its the mobo I installed, but I have no real expertise. Any help is appreciate... Read more

Answer:BSOD, screen scrambles, programs crash from gaming and sleep mode

Your crashes primarily indicate hard disk problems. This could mean hard disk corruption, bad sectors, a failing hard disk, Windows files or registry corruption, viruses, or memory problems. If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Run Disk Check with both boxes checked for all HDDs and with Automatically fix file system errors checked for all SSDs. Post back your logs for the checks after finding them using Check Disk (chkdsk) - Read Event Viewer Log (you may need to search for wininit instead of chkdsk).
For any drives that do not give the message:
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems
run disk check again as above. In other words, if it says:
Windows has made corrections to the file system
after running the disk check, run the disk check again.

Run the short and long tests with SeaTools for HDDs.SeaTools for Windows

SeaTools for DOS
If you have an SSD, make sure the following are up to date:SSD firmware
BIOS Version
Chipset Drivers
Hard disk controller drivers/SATA drivers
If you have a Marvell IDE ATA/ATAPI device, uninstall it in device manager and see if the system performs better.

Check Windows for corruption. Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations. Use OPTION THREE of SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to provide us with the sfcdeta... Read more

Hello Seveners!

I have been having trouble with a BSOD for a while now. It is getting to that extent that I bare it any longer! I need help!

Firstly, these BSOD's have been happening randomly, but normally the case is while it is in sleep, or when I put it to sleep, the screen will go black, but the laptop will refuse to actually sleep. It remains in this state of useless on-ness until either I pull the plug or it decides to BSOD.

I have a program called Soluto, which sends the details of the BSOD to my email. It said the error code was 1000009F and the likely cause was: nt driver.

I ran verifier.exe and restarted. Upon restarting I was constantly greeted by a BSOD informing me that there was a problem with HIDCLASS.SYS. Upon restarting with last known good configuration, I am here, looking for help! There are 6 results for HIDCLASS.SYS on my laptop, all seeming to point to AMD.

I have attached my Minidumps from today (two BSODes), my system NFO and a picture taken of the BSOD when booting after running verifier.exe. They are zipped as one, due to the fact that uploading of NFO files doesn't seem to be supported.

This is getting increasingly infuriating as I am constantly losing work!

System specs can be found on my profile and in the NFO.

I appreciate any help!

Many thanks,

Answer:Numerous BSOD's. Normally caused while in sleep / putting to sleep.

What USB devices have you got installed?

I believe we are looking at a USB device causing a bugcheck.
Do you have a gaming mouse or any mouse drivers installed?

HIDCLASS.SYS appears to be mainly caused by mouse drivers.

Because a lot of driver power state failures are caused by graphics drivers I recommend updating yours as it is very outdated.
Here's some instructions if you are unsure how to update it.

HiI am trying to get support to fix my laptop, a Lenovo T430S. When I put my laptop to sleep, it crashes and doesn't recover from the sleep mode. I have updated most of the drivers involved with network, power management, and USB. I have copy and pasted the BSOD crash report - which shows TCPIP.SYS a isnd NTOSKRNL.EXE involved in a Drive_Power_State_Failure. I feel that some of the drivers are corrupted. Is there a way to restore the drivers to original settings without deleting files such as documents and programs? I do not have a restore point prior to this malfunction. My computer is broke as hell.. gonna save up around $600 and upgrade.

My main purpose is gaming... that's what I need it for.

I'd need just the box, have monitor/keyboard/mouse/crappy speakers already.

Also, I'd need Windows XP Home edition with it so that brings it down to like $500.

What do you guys think? I've looked up some on e-bay, but they seem to have crappy gfx cards.

My current setup is...

512 RAM (Broken RAM, as far as I can tell)
AMD Athlon XP 2000+, Supposed to run at 1.7 gigs but only runs at 1.3
GeForce 4 Ti4200 64 MB card
Asus A7V266-E/AA motherboard
Random old floppy/disc drive/psu.. etc.. the case is old.

I'm really looking to retire this comp, but if any of the pieces are salvagable to save $$ that would be cool.

Thanks guys.

Answer:Need help putting together $600 gaming computer

what games do you wish to play?

for $500, i would buy a new case and Power supply, as well as a new motherboard. You should probably keep your processor as it is not THAT outdated yet, and will run all current games if paired with a better video card. that should save you $80 and is easily upgraded in the future.

your video card is not terrible, it would be better if it was the 128MB version, but still it should play a good amount of the games out to date.

Some motherboards I recommend are:
-Asus A7N8X (depending on how much you plan to upgrade, there are a few versions of this board)
-Abit NF7

if you plan on playing new games, I would recommend a Radeon 9600XT which you can get for about $160 also.

that would be:
Case + Power Supply $100
Motherboard $70-100
Video Card $160
accessories (maybe a new heatsink/fanand some case fans) $50
Total $410

what makes you think your RAM is dead?

i'm just rough estimating for now.

give us details on what you want to be able to do, including what games you wish to play, and we ca help you further. we love this stuff

I've had this problem intermittently on my laptop for the past 2 years however it has been occuring more often recently.

Basically sometimes when I click the sleep button on Windows 7, the screen fades to black as usual. However the fan keeps running (sounds like when it's on full load) and the power button light stays on endlessly. I always have to force shut it down and restart it.

What can be the issue?

Answer:Laptop freezes between entering sleep mode to being in sleep mode

Hi joseph10444.

Such a situation may occur when some driver (mostly the PnP device drivers depending on the ACPI configuration) fail to response within a stipulated time period during the power state change.

Let us see some data. Upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
Download and execute Driverview
View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
Edit > Select all
File > Save Selected Items
In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
Zip the .txt file and upload it.
Those files will give us a closer look to the issue.

I have a HP Pavillion and want to know how to set it to go to sleep?

Answer:putting computer to sleep

HP Pavilion = laptop, correct?

Open Control Panel, Power Options icon

On Laptops there should be 2 settings; one for AC (adapter being used), the other for Battery.

Just a suggestion; for AC settings I recommend NOT to turn drives off nor Hibernate.

Also, I am not familiar with HP laptops, but some (like Toshiba) have their own laptop setup in Control Panel that includes Power Options.

I know many ppl dont like putting their pc's to sleep, but i kinda prefer it. I had this problem before with another PC and it eventually just went away. But, problem is that my mom's PC, (Dell Vostro 200, Vista 32bit), wont go to sleep when i hit the sleep feature in the startup menu. The monitor turns off, but that's it. I think the problem may be the wireless router that is hooked up to the PC. My PC would never sleep when I first hooked up my wireless router to it. But for some reason, it just started working like it should. I have it set to sleep after an hour or so, and it has never gone to sleep yet. (since i hooked up the router). I didnt know whether to post this here or hardware, but I think its a Windows issue so...Thanks for the help.

Answer:P500 putting to sleep

hi cakemaser,
Can you try one of the following:
1. Boot in Safe Mode and manually put the computer to sleep either by pressing the power button, closing the lid, or by pressing sleep under change pc settings. If the power button should flashes - this indicates that the computer is on sleep state. If this works, perform a clean boot and observe it in normal mode.
2. Open Control Panel (large icon view) > Power Options > Change Advanced Power Settings and ensure that Hybrid Sleep / Hibernation mode are off.
 - Link to picture
3. Set the Power Settings to High Performance and Hard Drive Power Management to OFF via the Energy Management Utility.
 - Link to picture
Let me know how it goes.

Hello everyone. I have a strange problem and I hope someone can help me solve it. Yesterday we had a blackout and my pc was on sleep when that happened. After power returned I tried to turn it on just to find that it would not. Lights turn on, fan starts spinning and I can hear the sound of cd-rom but other than that nothing happens. screen is just black and nothing shows up. I'm not good with computers, but I dismounted everything including SPU and that battery thingy on the motherboard. I also tried to boot from cd to access repair mode. nothing worked. Now I am beginning to wonder if theres something with motherboard and I like to ask someone with some knowledge in this matter, not some random girl who knows about pc like me any advice would be appreciated

I'm sorry if I posted this in wrong section

Answer:Can't start pc after putting it to sleep

Hello Lenalee.

Make it sure that the monitor is turning on at first. If not, check the cabling, check the SMPS.

If monitor turns on, but no display, then power cycle the PC. Disconnect all the sources of power, press and hold the power button for say 30 seconds, or till it sounds a beep.

If still it is the same, dismantle the computer and Re-seat. Also Clear COMS.

Let us know the results.

I want to be able to put my monitors to sleep but not my processor/hardrive etc.

In the power options i have it set to "turn off display"s in 20 minutes and to "never" "put the computer to sleep"

but when i use the sleep key on my keyboard or select "sleep" from the start menu it puts my computer to sleep.

Is there a way that when i select "sleep" that only the monitors sleep?

Mainly is there a way without installing additional software?

I have 9 monitors that i would like to beable to ideally put to sleep on command with the sleep key on my Razer keyboard.

Answer:putting only monitors to sleep

I just physically turn off my monitors, but that's just me.

Something's putting my netbook to sleep. Acer Aspire One 722 only a couple weeks out of the box, Win 7 Premium. Before the start of Daylight Saving Time it was going to sleep at 5:00 AM. Now it's going to sleep at 6:00 AM. Thoughts on the culprit? Acer Tech Support was entirely unhelpful. Haven't visited any dodgy sites (honest) or installed doubtful software.

Answer:Something's putting netbook to sleep

Sorry, that's Win 7 Home Premium. Updates up to date.

Not sure about the first 4 but, the Mozilla Maintenance Service, you can uninstall it completely and check for updates yourself.

Hi there, one of my computers is a laptop and it's running windows XP HOME edition. Another computer of my, which is NOT a laptop, is running windows xp HOME too. If I want to set this computer to sleep cog, I can't. Because you have to have windows XP pro for this function. I tried by pushing the shift while i'm at the shut-down menu but that doesn't work, so I thougt, there is no function for windows xp HOME for that. However, if the accu from my laptop is up, it put itself to sleep cog. Does anyne knows how I can put my not laptop computer to sleep cog?greetzblackberry

Answer:putting windows xp HOME in sleep cog

Sleep "cog" - had to Google to find out what I think you mean..Start>Control Panel>>Power Options>Power SchemesThen change the appropriate settings for Home/Office DeskGood luck..

I recently accidentally put my computer to sleep, when trying to shut it off and since then it just refuses to boot. The motherboard usually beeps when booting up but thats stopped now, the only thing that happens is the fans all run for a couple of minutes before the computer powers down on its own, theres no power going to the usb ports either as the laser on the mouse doesnt light up, neither do the lights on the keyboard, I dont get any video output at all.
The computer is custom built, and specs are:
Motherboard - Asus P5-QE
CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz
Ram: 2x 2GB Kingston DDR2
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 6450 1GB
PSU: Corsair TX650w

I have tried:
using my old GPU
removing everything except the CPU and heatsink+fan
same as above but with both GPU's seperately and 1 stick of ram
rewiring the whole pc
a 700w PSU
removing 2 HDDs and booting only with the OS loaded HDD

after the above the pc still wont boot, please help me

Answer:Computer not booting after putting to sleep

UPDATE: after clearing CMOS the computer will now boot, but there are green squares where the asus logo would be when booting, it gets to a point where asks to enter bios to configure it, but then just cuts out after a few seconds when configuring bios. then it will cut off before it even reaches that point, after leaving the computer off for a few mins it will do the same thing up to configuring bios then cut off then starts and cut offs after about 3 secs until left off for a while

My V15 Nitro is a fairly new laptop, only over a month old and I've been getting problems with the battery.  A couple of weeks ago, one morning it didn't wake up after putting it to sleep and I had to press the reset button the back of the laptop as nothing else I did or could find would help the issue. It happened again yesterday, and I reset it again, and now this morning. So what happened was that when I tried to wake the laptop up by lift the screen/lid, the battery light would flash as if it was depleted and just not respond to my attempts to "wake" it up.  I had to force it to turn off and turn on again for it to respond, and then it would indicate that the battery is actually full. After searching the net for a solution I found that I had to reset the battery by pushed the button on the underside of the laptop. I did this each time, and looked at the batterry settings and the battery levels and they are definitely not depleted so why does it think it is and refusing to wake up when I lift the lid after its put to sleep?  I've never had this problem with other laptops before.  Please help, also is having to reset the battery like that not good for the laptop?

The motherboard I'm using is a 'Gigabyte X48-DS4' with a 'Q9450' Processor with 'Windows 7 Professional' installed from fresh, not updated.

The operating system is completely updated automatically with all required updates and patches from Microsoft.

The problem I'm having is very weird, I've never seen it before.

If I put the computer to 'Sleep', it will go to 'Sleep' but when I come back and press the power button on the computer, it will continuously cycle, the computer powers on, and then powers off, and keeps doing that until I either hold the power button down (or switch it off at the power supply) and then power it back on. However, if I do this, its like a normal boot, no longer resuming from its Sleep.

Please help! Thanks!

All of the attached DMP files are of the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a) bug check.

This indicates that Microsoft Windows or a kernel-mode driver accessed paged memory at DISPATCH_LEVEL or above.

This bug check is issued if paged memory (or invalid memory) is accessed when the IRQL is too high. The error that generates this bug check usually occurs after the installation of a faulty device driver, system service, or BIOS.

I've recently bought a Surface Pro 2 and initially had a few problems with sleep mode (it sometimes caused the tablet to shut down abruptly instead of sleep), though I think I've managed to fix it somehow, or at least I hope so. Anyway, I've noticed that when I use Spotify and press the power button to activate sleep mode, the music stops. However, if I leave the tablet alone it will eventually turn off the display and keep playing music, and doesn't seem to go to sleep (even though my power settings say it should sleep after 15 mins.).
So now I'm unsure as to whether it would be better if I change the power settings so that it never goes to sleep (at least when the tablet is plugged) and just turns off the display after 5 mins. of inactivity. This would be helpful if I'm just using it to listen to music, and to prevent an abrupt shut down in case the problem I used to have returns. Would that harm my hardware in any way?

I'e read through various posts and tried a bunch of things but nothing works. All the MS updates have been applied. Im running the latest ATI GPU drivers and all the software on my machine is up to date according to Secunia PSI.
Any ideas? I've attached the mini dump.

Yesterday I put my laptop to sleep by closing the lid like I normally do and when I woke up it was powered off. The last few days though every time I did that it put it into hibernation(im pretty sure). I made sure that wasn't in the settings. It is set to sleep when I close the lid. I have all windows updates. I appreciate any help. I never saw the BSOD but when I opened my laptop and it was turned off I checked for a minidump and there was one for today.Attachment 55938

Answer:BSOD when putting laptop to sleep.

IMO this is most likely due to your Virtual Box networking adapter (I had similar problems with my installation of Virtual Box and had to disable it - but I do not use hibernation/sleep). But it is possible that it's due to the wireless networking drivers also.

The memory dump implies (but does not name) the Virtual Box networking components.
On my system I disabled "Virtual Box Host-Only Ethernet Adapter" in the Network Adapters section of Device Manager

Also, you have both BitDefender and MalwareBytes running. You should not have more than one antivirus or one firewall running at the same time (I also noticed that you have Comodo installed) Please uninstall MalwareBytes and Comodo. Should you reinstall MalwareBytes, be sure not to check the MalwareBytes Pro Trial - as that's what causes it to load at startup.

ok, guys I have been struggling to fix this for hours now.
MY computer gives a BSOD as soon as I press the sleep button, instead of sleeping it gives a BSOD and restarts. I recently updated to win 8 pro 64 bit from Win 7, and that's when this started, initially it just hanged when trying to sleep, so I updated my Intel rapid start and AHCI drivers, after that it just gives BSOD and restarts whenever I try to put it to sleep.
MY PC has a built in SSD in order to improve startup speeds etc (20GB). and I guess the drivers are messed up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have included a log file from the software recommended in the posting instructions

Laptop problem is that every time i turn it on, put to sleep, restart.
It will always have the automatically focus on the last option or as if there is and invisible holding to END Button and only way to temporarily fix is to press the Left button. Please refer to the video i uploaded.
And because this problem i have, even if i set my laptop to go sleep if not use will turn back on and stay at the login screen until my laptop is drained and unused.
I thought it was some kind of malware but after i format my laptop to my surprise it still there and i cant find any solution to fix it.
Please help me find a fix for this as i have this since January.
Solution tried:
Scan with different kinds of Anti-virus as result is normal
Start using safe mode and still there
Lastly format laptop and still no improvement

Now that I have WIN10 it's not possible for me to easily put the computer to sleep. The Power button shows the three options but a single click or a double click on SLEEP yields a dark screen but then an active screen reappears in about 6 seconds.

Anyone have a clue? I'd be grateful for comments.

PS --When the screen goes blank after non-use is that true SLEEP or just a monitor "rest" ?

Question: T61p Sleep Problem

This is the first Lenovo laptop I have ever owned, I had a friend who worked at Microsoft send me an evaluation T61p, he just never asked for it back . It's a 6459CTO Windows 7 Professional RTM. The problem I'm having is that it will sleep whenever it "feels" like it. I can playing a game or browsing the web and the screen goes black and it sleeps. Sometimes it doesn't sleep or hibernate it just shutsdown. I'm running it on the power cable so it's not battery. I have turned off everything in the Windows Power Management setting everything to never sleep, hibernate, shutdown and it still does it. Another problem I'm having is this thing runs hot. 80C on the Core2Duo and 93-95C on the nVidia Quadro, while playing a game. I'm wondering if the sleep/shutdown issue is that it's just getting hot and sleeping/shutting down, but I haven't gotten any Windows Kernel Power errors. T61p 6459CTO | Intel T7500 2.2GHz | nVidia Quadro FX570M  | Windows 7 Pro RTM x64 | 4GB DDR2

Answer:T61p Sleep Problem

Have the same problem. When Vista starts working like crazy without a reason, when working with Google Earth Pro, etc., the hard disc starts writing everything down and - good night! It is cold outside this time of the year, so I take it out from the docking station and leave it on the balcony for few minutes to cool down. Then it starts again and works - if I am lucky or have little to do - for some time again. Had the blower replaced twice, no change. I did not find a thermometer to measure 80C but it gets so hot underneath that you can't hold your hand on it. Any suggestions?

Hey guys, I bought my T61p a year ago, come April. Within the last 2-3 months I've been having issues with it recovering itself from sleep. At first it would only happen if I had it stay in sleep mode for more than a day or so. Then for awhile it was only unable to come out of sleep when I had it in sleep mode for more than a couple hours. Now it seems no matter what, when I put it into sleep mode it won't come back out! To give you an idea of the issue, I'll try and explain what happens when I try to come out of sleep mode. Basically it'll go into sleep mode without much issue. Once in sleep mode it'll stay that way, usually, though some times it'll keep beeping. This is to signal it coming in or out of sleep mode. The moon icon will either turn off or on depending on which it is. Though this is annoying, it's not the major issue I'm having. The major issue is when I open my laptop and try to wake it from sleep mode. For starters it'll take it a few seconds to recognize that I'm trying to wake it up then it will make the beep sound and the 'crescent moon' light will go out. This is followed by the CD/DVD drive spinning, fans spinning, and from what I can tell the HDD spins as well. After this the screen used to come on but now it doesn't. And no matter what Fn keys I try to press nothing changes. I've tried hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del but that won't do anything, I've also hit enter a bunch of times, and I've tried using the Fn key with all the blue picture keys. It sounds... Read more

I have tried a few games which are 3-4 years old, and many of them are unplayable. Under Windows 7, latest nVidia drivers for the FX 570m and 6GB of RAM, a game like Perfect World(2008) gives me a frame rate of 8-11/second. The video driver is in performance mode. If I lower all the settings to make the details inexistant, I get a much higher frame rate, but it defeats the purpose of having a high resolution screen. Decreasing the resolution did not help either. Other titles that did not perform well include the demo of Devil May Cry 4, and Prince of Persia(2007). Is there a certain configuration where AA x4 or x8 works better? Is there such thing as force mode drivers? I do not want to overclock because it will void the warranty.

Answer:T61p Gaming - very very poor performance !

you should be able to run these games fine in medium setting as far as i see. graphics card info laptop review, detailed: the T61p, was able to run Supreme comander 1 @ 1440X900 decently fluent (av 25) with high settings and supreme commander 2 @ 1280x800, w/ out AA and presets on "high", which might help you save time as well, it could run "F.E.A.R." on high @ 43 fps average, the game was made 5 or so years ago. all that i can think off would be to look for a custom driver (i had to get for my T61's quadro nvs 140m, NVidia had no good drivers for it at the time) if i find the site, i will give post it

I can;t read the DMP file but I put the file in my dropbox and here is a link to the DMP file:

Please someone help. tired of the multiple of BSODs and concerned that I'm doing some serious damage to my Sony Vaio latop running 64 bit Windows 7.

If you can get into your computer, you can upload it like this:

My computer is running Windows 7 professional. It is a fresh install. I have a blu ray drive installed (LG BH12ls38) that works fine. However, when I put my computer to sleep and wake it back up, the drive is gone. When I go to device manager and try to scan for hardware changes it still doesn't recognize it. The only way to solve the problem is to shut down the computer. Restarting the computer doesn't help. If I restart, the computer stays on the motherboards screen for a longer period of time then it normally does (about 30 seconds). Also, it seems that this drive is affecting the computer when I shut it down. After having this problem of not being able to find the drive it seems my computer takes longer to shut down. I have installed all necessary updates for Windows and the driver is provided by Microsoft driver version - 6.1.7601.17514 and date is 6/21/2006. I called LG and they have not been able to find a solution. It seems they do not provide/have a driver and rely on microsoft's drivers. I also updated my BIOS to the newest version. I went to my local store and tried another LG drive which was older and not blu ray and it worked fine so it's not a motherboard or power issue. My computer is running in IDE mode. The reason I state that is because I saw some posts about people switching from IDE to AHCI mode to help similar problems to this. However, I talked to the technician at my local microcenter and he said this wouldn't be the issue. Sound... Read more

Answer:Blu Ray Drive disappears after putting computer to sleep

1) Does it recognize it when you insert a disc?

2) Have you tried replacing the drive with a replacement blu-ray drive?

3) One option, clearly, is not to use "sleep". While hibernation and sleep work perfectly for many, there are LOTS of folks who have various problems with one or the other (or both). Believe it or not, these functions were never 100% perfected by Microsoft (hard to do when you are dealing with all of the possible various hw & sw configurations). You can simply set the hd & display to power down after a defined period of inactivity. It should work just fine for you.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate on my home built computer. Whenever I put my computer to sleep and wake it up with the power key on my keyboard it shuts down and I have to turn off the power supply and wait 5 seconds before I turn it back on. This is irritating. Why does my computer completely shut down and how do I fix this problem? Thanks for any and all help!

Answer:Solved: waking computer after putting to sleep.

Usually when putting a computer into sleep mode pressing any key on the keyboard will wake the computer. I would recommend pressing the space bar instead of the power button in order to avoid conflicts.

I have an HP pavilion g6 notebook laptop computer. I have recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I had occasion to put my computer to sleep! I had been working on my college courses for a few hours, when I needed to take a break. I put my system to sleep, but when I returned to complete my assignments my computer would not turn on! It went to an off black screen, and locked up! When at sleep the power indicater blinked, which indicates that it was in sleep mode. When I tried to awaken my Pavillion it locked up, and the only way to regain control was to manually force it to shut down (i.e. hooded power button down.) thinking this may be due to system clutter I cleaned both user disc & system files using the Windows disk cleaning function, found through the control panel, looked for both HP updates, and Windows updates. Later I again tried to awaken my machine after putting it to sleep, and had a repeat in the inability to awaken it! A third and the last time I tried to awaken my PC from sleep I noticed that for some reason, and somehow the indicator light was solid, the screen black, and I heard my computers fan running! Can anyone give me advice as to solve this puzzle?

Answer:Why won't my computer awaken after putting it to sleep in Windows 10?

You can maybe give this a lookHP sleep-mode fix

Hi everyone,

I left my Sony Vaio VGN-NS190D on when I left a few Fridays ago, and when I returned on Monday, it had gone to sleep by itself like it normally does. However, I've recently discovered that when it goes to sleep without me pressing the "sleep" button, when it restarts again the blue screen pops up. SO FAR, it hasn't been too serious because I am able to reboot my computer from the blue screen and the system simply restarts and everything looks normal. However, this is very troubling to be (blue screens scare the bleep out of me) so I'd like to know if anyone can recommend any actions I can take to fix this issue. It's never happened before, and if I shut down my computer or press the sleep button, the screen doesn't pop up. I also get the blue screen when I just close my computer top without hitting shut down first. I've already gotten a blue screen many many times, but somehow I feel like one of these days it'll just be a fatal error and I'll have to scrap this laptop, which I don't want to do.

I also can't tell if this is a problem with my Vaio or not, but it's fairly new so I don't really think so. I'm hoping for suggestions to fix the issue so I can stop constantly worrying that someday I'll get a complete crash and won't be able to turn on my laptop at all anymore. Also an explanation of what's happening would also be great.

Thanks in advance!

Greets all.

So, I was in for a bit of a shock to see my PF usage go from 120MB (XP Pro) to 786 MB with Vista Ult 64. Ok - it's all good. It actually is just over 900 right after boot, but settles to about 786 after about a minute of sitting idle.

The thing I noticed it that after putting the computer to sleep, and then waking it, my PF usage is at 534 MB - HUGE difference. I left it idle for about 20 min. to see if it would creep back up, but it didn't.

Two things I noticed:

svchost went from about 59k > 47k
explorer went from about 14k > 5k

So, that's part of it.

But the big question here is how to get Vista to boot that way? - so it's usage is at 534 MB as opposed to 786 MB. I understand there arre services I can disable (print spooler for one, as I do not have a printer hooked to this computer), but the point here is the usage dropped that drastically without disabling anything in services.msc. Any way to get Vista to boot, so the mem usgae is the same as after it is put to sleep?

Thanks much in advance.

Answer:Memory usage goes way down after putting Vista to sleep...

Hello RiffWraithm and welcome to Vista Forums.

This is pretty much controlled by what you have loading at startup and Superfetch in Vista. It loads what it thinks you will need into memory to help Vista run it faster. It learns in time what you may need in memory, so it will fluctuate a bit until it learns your pattern completely. I would recommend that you let Superfetch stay set at the default settings since it does a pretty good job in Vista. Remember, unused RAM is wasted RAM.

If you would like to play around with the Superfetch settings a bit to see if anything may make a difference for you, then these tutorials can help with this.

i've had my x201 for about 3 months now and i am just now experiencing this problem. today when i close the lid so the laptop can go to sleep, the battery indicator stayed lit on the lid and the moon icon comes on but after that both indicators go off and when i open the lid, the system won't resume. this problem doesn't happen all the time though. sometimes it will sleep properly when i press the power button to turn it back on, windows tells me that the system was shut down unexpectedly. i currently have all hte latest drivers and BIOS version 1.22. i've read the other long thread about this problem and they seem to say that a motherboard fix was all that was necessary. are these motherboards in stock or will it take a long time for them to get it. i don't want to wait too long because i need the laptop for school the thing that worries me is that i've never had to send my laptop in for warranty repairs before. i've read about many people who sent their laptop in and it was physically damaged by the repair center. is this just an isolated case? can you guys tell me about your warranty repair experience? what's the turn around time?

I don't have multiple hard drives available to test this myself, otherwise I would.

I'm using Win 7 on my Thinkpad. I'd like to get an SSD to use as the main drive, simply because it would be silent. I'm currently using a 500gb 7200 Hitachi as my sole drive. It's fast and relatively quiet, but not silent. Right now I have Win 7 idle the drive after 1 minute of inactivity, but random programs are bound to access the HDD sooner or later so the drive only stays off for maybe 3 minutes at a time.

What I would like to do is move the 500gb drive to the UltraBay to use as a storage/backup drive, and the SSD as the main OS drive. The SSD would obviously always be quiet and would not need to spin down/idle for me. But I would like the 500gb in the UltraBay to spin down when I'm not using it, which would be most of the time when I'm browsing the web or such.

So, can Win 7 spin down/idle a hard drive if it's in the UltraBay and currently unused, independent of doing the same to another drive, such as the SSD being used for the OS? Is that setting local to each hard drive's activity, or is it a global setting that wakes up/puts to sleep all the hard drives at the same time?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:How does Win 7 handle putting multiple HDDs to sleep?

In my multi-hard drive (mechanical) desktop, I can tell you that hard drives spin down independently. Say my drive with music (drive D) on it spins down (I can tell it spun down because iTunes takes a bit longer than usual to play) the drive I'm using to install a game ISO from (drive S) and the OS Raptor (drive C) are still spinning.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the rule is "Drives idle after set time unless something is accessing them."

Good day everyone,

Basically I keep getting problems with my laptop not going to sleep or hibernating. It seems to happen randomly. Sometimes it will work and other times it won't, the system will just hang then approximately 10 minutes later it will automatically shut down. When I turn it back on I get the error message : "Windows Didn't Shut Down Successfully".

My system is :

Windows 7 Home Premium 64
AMD Athlon TF-20 1.6ghz
ATI Mobility Radeon X1200
As far as I know I've got the latest drivers. I would also like to mention that I even get this problem when I'm running Win 7 32, so I'm basically at a lost here and would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks a lot guys.

If the cover isn't closed when I put my plugged-in Surface Pro 4 to sleep using the power button (settings are to put to sleep w/ power button when plugged in) the display wakes up about 10 seconds after I press the power button. It begins looking for me to sign in to Windows even though I've put it to sleep. I use my Surface Pro 4 plugged in as a tablet a lot, but every time I put it to sleep it wakes back up immediately. I've checked all the power settings and googled my issue, but can't figure it out. What's up?

Is there a way to do this without putting your computer to sleep?

I'd like to be able to lock my screen and still have my files download while it's locked for example.

I've tried google and all, but all the results are for mac, and nothing is showing for PC...

Thanks guys!

Answer:lock screen without putting computer to sleep

Hi, if you mean to just lock your computer, I am asumming vista, it is pretty easy.
You will need to have the settings correct so it won't go to sleep automatically.

But if you want o have it so you need the accout password to use the computer again, just go to the Start Menu, and on the bottom right will be 2 buttons and an arrow. One button is to shut the computer down or something like that, the other is to lock the computer. You can als click the arrow and select Lock that way.

I'm not sure if the Lock optio is avaliable if you don't have a password set, so you will need to have that set.

If this is not what you were looking for, please tell me and I will try to correct it.

My HP DV7-7135US has begun recently begun crashing while going to sleep. I've had the laptop for several years and it randomly crashed when going to sleep or hibernate. It always hangs after turning off the sound (light goes out) but before turning off the wireless/bluetooth hardware and fingerprint reader. Sent the laptop to HP, their solution was to wipe and reload it. Still had issues. Reloaded my backup image and reinstall/repaired the wireless/bluetooth software, finger print software and drivers. It finally worked ok with occasional crashes for the past year. Last week while traveling it began to crash and get the BSOD. I have tried repeating my previous repairs with no luck. I don't know what is causing the system to crash now.

I greatly appreciate any help provided. Log files attached.

I tried googling this, but trying to open the instructions of 1040EZ forms and trying to scroll a page it will be slow as heck then put my monitor to sleep which I then have to reboot.

I'm using Windows 7 Beta and a GTX 260, I did try to disable 3D on Acrobat reader 9 but still kicked out the monitor into sleep. What is weird is viewing and entering info into the actual 1040EZ form doesn't do this, only the instruction pdf. (2 separate PDF files)

Any Ideas? TIA!!

If anyone could try the instructions pdf in vista that has a GTX260, that would be helpful.

Answer:Acrobat reader 9 putting monitor to sleep

And this is why you don't use a beta OS on a "production" system. Most likely, you've encountered one of the bugs. If installing another OS isn't an option for you, you could always try setting up XP or Vista in a VM for the time being. Or, better yet, try another computer.

I had the same exact problem, except when I turned off the computer and pressed on again, three loud beeps sounded and the screen was black and everything unresponsive. I am a college student, and so I took it down to the Technical Services office, and they told me that it was a Graphics Card malfunction. My T61P is only just over 2 years old, and now I have to buy a new computer. Does anyone know if the Graphics Card is replaceable, or would I have to replace the entire motherboard? This just happened yesterday, so if anyone has any information, it would really help...

Have you tried removing the USB dongle for the Logitech Wireless Keyboard, followed by the primary battery pack from the back of the ThinkPad T61p, then plugging in the AC adapter and trying to power on the system?  If so, does it then boot up?  If so, reinstall the primary battery pack, verify it is holding a full charge,  and repeat to confirm the T61p is behaving as it normally should.

Answer:T61p crashes ,when gaming on maximum preformance

A couple of points here: 1) Our Thinkpads are designed to be used primarily as business machines. 2) The systemboards have an integrated video card. This means that the video RAM and other memory on the unit is shared.  You listed the following configurations: 2x1GB of RAMNvidia quatro 570m-512M of VRAM Does your game meet these specs? I'm not much of a gamer anymore. But I can you that the playing games with higher resolutions will eventually burn out your systemboard. If you want your unit to last for years to come, I'd keep the settings very low or avoid gaming on this unit. You can play them if you want, but you do so at your own risk. Any other gamers or video card experts care to share their thoughts about this?  Best,Mark

After several years of solid service my machine is beginning to show errors. Most consistent is a BSOD every time I try to put it to sleep (S3 hybrid). Reading a crash dump I see that NTOSKRNL.EXE is the last to run.

Unfortunately DM_Log_Collector fails. Attempting to run it produces" "Windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" even when run as Administrator.

Also unfortunately the only SF-Diagnostic Tool (run as Administrator) module that seems to "work" is MSINFO32, which collects all the information but then after the progress bar has completed and the progress box has disappeared, it produces a "You need permission to perform this action" error. When cancel is selected it produces the error message "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application." etc. and "Could not complete operation on some files and directories" etc. All other modules produce similar error messages early in their functioning.

I have scanned for virus. I'm up-to-date be with Windows Update. I tried to reinstall my video drivers and it seemed to help temporarily but then the problem returned.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:BSOD putting to sleep - DM_Log_collector, SF-Diagnostics fail

One additional note. I've tried to get the Win 7 SDK package but my download aborts with the following: "A problem occurred while installing Windows SDK components. Installation of the Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7 product reported the following error: Please refer to samples\setup\HTML\Configdetails.htm document for further information." I have no idea where that file is or even if it would help.

Hey guys. This is my first post here, so Hello. Before you turn away and refer me to the other threads on the same problem, I'd like to tell you that I've checked out every thread, forum and discussion on the topic all over the internet, and no solutions worked for me.

I'm using an Asus K53E laptop (details given below), and I've been using it for a year. Two weeks ago, I reinstalled windows OS, and even then everything was fine. For the last three or four days, however, there's been a problem.

1. When the computer goes to sleep automatically (due to power management settings) it wakes up immediately after that, and then it doesn't go back to sleep on its own.
2. If I put the computer to sleep, it wakes up in the same way, but after it wakes up once if I press sleep again, it works fine. If I wake it up and try putting it to sleep after about 15 minutes, it wakes up immediately again.

Every time, when it wakes up on its own, it does not turn on the screen. It only lights up if I touch the touchpad, and it's on the log in screen.

I've tried all powercfg commands: S3 sleep is activated, devicequery returns no results, last wake says wake source is 0. I've checked power management and sleeping while media sharing is allowed. I've checked device settings and network adapter is not allowed to wake up computer.

Just as a last resort I reinstalled my OS again, because since the last year nothing had gone wrong with it. Right now I only have mozilla firefox installed, and this ... Read more

try setting the power settings to 'high performance' set 'turn off display to NEVER and 'put the computer to sleep' to NEVER
check the advanced settings and try setting the following (remember this is just a test-it's my experience that the high performance setting resolves most sleep issues and is most consistent)
1.require password--NO
2.Hard disk-turn off hard disk-NEVER
3. sleep--sleep after-NEVER
4. hibernate after-NEVER
5.allow wake timers-DISABLE
6. power buttons and lid-power button action-SHUT DOWN--sleep button action-SLEEP (some laptops by default sleep when lid is closed)
7.PCI Express-link state power management-OFF
8. Display-turn off display after-NEVER

finally--change your screen saver setting to NONE

test to see if it functions as you desire--tweak settings one at a time and test after each tweak

One month ago I started getting BSODs after putting my laptop in hibernation or sleep modus with the button. Also when I use the start menu, hibernation and sleep modus give a BSOD. Shut down does not give any issues...

I tried restoring my laptop to an older restore point, but it did not solve anything.
I updated some drivers like: LAN and Nvidea graphics, but it did not help
I installed all windows updates available, nothing...

So I guess I can still use my laptop and just avoid hibernating or sleep, but it would be nice if I can get those functionalities back to working.

I added a zip.file that I created DM Log Collector, unfortunately my laptop did not create any dump those are not available.

Does anyone have any solutions?

For laptop, try not to use hibernate as it demand more space and may slow down and use battery.

Refer to how to enable &or disable Hibernate

After you have turn off hibernate, do monitor.

I bought an ASUS G73JH gaming laptop 2 months ago and just started getting this random, inexplicable error. It's happened twice this last week and I have lost a considerable amount of unsaved work because of it.

What happened the first time was I put my laptop to sleep in order to do something else and when I came back it had shut down by itself. After booting it back up the first thing that was displayed was the window in the images above. I don't know if my computer actually had a BSOD before it shut down because I was not there to see what happened.

Second time this happened, I just left my computer at idle without putting it to sleep and left the room. My laptop is configured to go to screensaver after 10 minutes and sleep after 15. When I came back this time, my power button was not blinking, meaning the computer was not asleep, but the monitor had shut off and could not be turned back on with the monitor on/off toggle. I had to manually restart the computer by holding the power button, and when it booted back up again the same window appeared. Yet again, I don't know if my computer actually had a BSOD because this time the monitor was turned off.

Any ideas?

P.S. My system specs are in the sig below and I've attached the requisite .zip file. No components are overclocked or otherwise modified at the hardware or software level. This is the OEM version of Windows 7 that was pre-installed on my system but I did a reformat right after I got the computer.

Answer:Random BSODs after putting computer to sleep or idling

Here's what my Action Center error reporting had to say about what happened:

First, "Windows stopped working"

Then, "Shut down unexpectedly"

For a few weeks now, I have been getting BSOD when i put my computer to sleep. It seems that if i wake up my computer within a few minutes after i put it to sleep, it doesn't crash though. I have attached the file so the community can assist me with this problem. Thank you.

Whenever I put the T61p to sleep or hibernate, the thinkpad wakes up right after it powers down.  Does anyone know of this problem and have a solution? Thanks

Answer:t61p randomly wakes up from sleep/hibernate

As an initial setp, look for any "Wake on Lan" or "Wake on USB" (or similar) settings in the power management utility and relevant indiviudal device drivers, then turn them to off.Cheers, Bill

I am running a T61, Windows XP SP3 with all drivers updated and I am experiencing this strange power management problem. Regardless of the settings in the power management, my T61 won't go to sleep or hibernate on its own. But pressing the Fn + F4 or Fn + F12 button works like a charm and the system comes back up fine. I upgraded to SP3 in order to see if that would fix the glitch, but no success. Any ideas?

Answer:T61p does not suspend to sleep or hibernate when idle

Hi All Starting a new job, and looking for a new laptop. I've liked Thinkpads in the past, so was hoping to have a few questions answered about them. People have posted their problems, but since no other company I've seen offers the same level of customization and price I feel that a T61p is still my preference. Dells/Gateways are more expensive and less customized (plus filled with bloat and ugly), while a Macbook Pro would probably run about an extra 700-1000. Was hoping to wait for the bluescreen gaming issue to be cleared up, then purchase if things feel right (too bad that is probably after 4/7). My gaming generally doesn't include heavy graphics FPS games, so for ones like HoMM V, Civ IV, and Oblivion how decent is the currently offered 256 NVIDIA, and does anyone know if in the next few months Thinkpads might begin offering a NVIDIA 512 card (the 8800 I think?). The other mentioned laptops do carry the 512s. Included in this thought is how the 15" does with the somewhat older game's above in screen resolution. Second question was regarding how people like the 64 bit versions of Vista for gaming and general use. Having to use and test OS X, Vista and XP, I can honestly say I would rather stick with XP (which the Macbook Pros now run wonderfully as well). But the key factor would be whether I'd get better performance with XP and 3gigs of ram then with Vista64 and 4gigs (although either will run those games above). Also I guess whether there are s... Answer:Questions regarding a T61p for general use and gaming: 32 vs 64, 256 VC and widescreen options

The Quadro FX 570m is based on the same processor as GeForce 8600 GT, so it will run all contemporary games, it's just that you may need to change your game's detail levels to medium in the more demanding cases (or low in extremes). For more detail, I would encourage you to search the web for game-specific benchmarks of the 8600 GT (mobile). With regards to the graphic card's memory, I don't know how it looks in case of Dells and Gateways (as we don't see many of these in Europe), but what I've seen in Asuses, for instance, is that they'd usually pack either an 8600GT with 512MB of DDR2 memory, or 256MB of DDR3 memory. I would personally opt for the smaller DDR3 (as the gaming Asus G1S has). The Quadro in T61p also has 256MB of DDR3 memory, and that's fine by me. (Of course, 512MB of DDR3 would be most desirable, but I haven't seen such a config so far... Maybe Alienware has it .)As for main RAM, my feeling is that 3GB is totally enough. You'd most likely do just fine with 2GB. And taking into consideration that XP is by itself so much faster (should I say, prudent?) than Vista, it may be a good choice. But bear in mind that Microsuckers have not enabled DirectX 10 in Windows XP (to boost Vista sales, of course), which I personally hate and am the more determined to buy a T61p with XP.Message Edited by Axure on 04-01-2008 07:53 PM

Recently I have been having problems with shutting down and putting my computer to sleep. I do not know the cause nor have I had this problem before. I sadly do not have the stop code parameter information but I do have the files made by the dm collector. All I know about this code is that it may be a memory leak, which I do not know how to fix.

Answer:BSOD Shutting Down and Putting Computer to sleep, Error 0x0000009f

Hello and Welcome to SevenForums

This one can be a little tricky to solve because i've had it and it's annoying and took me a while to fix, anyways lets get to troubleshooting.

The dumpfile was unhelpful.
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours. Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Your system may slow down a little but that's because you have Driver Verifier on. If you crash when you logon in your computer then go into Safe Mode and disable Driver Verifier. Safe Mode

so in addition to the other problem that i have about standby on the x201, sometimes, very rarely, when i put the computer to sleep, the moon indicator will flash like normal and stay on after 3 or 4 flashes, but sometimes the battery indicator will stay on even after the moon light has come on. the battery indicator will go out a few seconds aftder the computer has gone to sleep. has this happened to anyone else? usually the battery indicator goes out as soon as the standby indicator is solidly lit.

Answer:battery light stays on for a long time when putting to sleep

I occasionally have the same issue. Only workaround I have found is to reawaken my thinkpad and put to sleep/hybernate again.  Sorry, not much of a solution to offer.
