Yoga 900 - 2 months to receive a power cord? This is not reasonable or acceptable, manager?

Question: Yoga 900 - 2 months to receive a power cord? This is not reasonable or acceptable, manager?

2 weeks ago my Yoga 900 stops charging and the power cord starts making a popping sound from the wall socket (thank god it didn't start a fire). So it's obvious the power cord is bad. I call support and the agent says it's not the power cord and he can fix it (yes I did try to explain about the popping noise and small arcs of electricity it is making from the wall socket) so he remotes in and tries making some changes and even goes so far as to say the wall socket is the issue and not my power cord. Finally after an hour of testing he is finally convinced that it's the power cord. He puts in the order for a new cord to be sent out and tells me 3 business days (I'm finding out by reading through the forums that he lied directly to me as there are complaints about the cord being on back order about a month before I called) and of course after 3 business days nothing. I then try looking up online to see if I can track the order and I find out that the ticket number they emailed to me doesn't exist. After 3 or 4 calls and 1.5 weeks I finally get an agent who states that everything is put in correctly, they have the cord and she can't find out why it just hasn't been shipped and has escalated to management.

So... I decide to start my own research and after reading through these forums and attempting to order a power cord from the Lenovo store (which told me will ship in greater than 5 weeks) that there is no power cord and the 3 business days was an outright lie.

The big question is should anyone have to wait 2 months (2 weeks so far and 5+ weeks per the Lenovo store) to get a power cord to use their "under warranty" computer? If this was a specific motherboard or some kind of hardware that had to be ordered then installed and tested I could see a month (with delays, international shipping etc) but.... This is a power cord, it does not require assembly or testing or installation. I can also GAURENTEE that there is a manufacturing plant someplace that's boxing Yoga 900's up right now to be sent to retailers to be sold and each one of them has a power cord but since we are a warranty/RMA issue and there is no profit from us we are getting put at the end of the line.

At this point I'm still going to play nice as it's been only a couple days since I spoke with the last support agent who told me I would receive an email or call this week from management about the issue. I most likely will not get a call or email by the end of the week and at that point it will be time (and 3 weeks since my first call) to stop being nice (movie quote and showing my age).

This forum will be my last polite attempt at asking for help and all I'm looking for right now is some form of contact from Lenovo saying "hey we hear you, this sucks - how about we either pull some from our warehouse stash and send you one or purchase one from Amazon and send it your way - or a visa gift card to cover the cost and shipping and you go get one (yes the other part of my research found that there are a TON of stores that have this cord in stock and Lenovo could easily solve this issue by getting one from them and sending it my way) but why would I expect a warranty to cover defective parts? Why would Lenovo eat a little cash to not only be upstanding individuals and honor the warranty I purchased but also provide some kind of customer service during this event? The above action would not only correct the issue but it would also have me tell everyone what excellent service I received.

I not only work in fraud, have a wife with a law degree but also managed a large group at a call center along with working with a ton of legal departments. I know exactly who to complain to . To quote another movie - I have a particular set of skills...

Please have someone contact me as soon as possible - via email is fine and you can ask your cloud eng guys to pull my contact info from this post as I signed in with my email address and you have all my contact info on file.

Thank you - Joe

Preferred Solution: Yoga 900 - 2 months to receive a power cord? This is not reasonable or acceptable, manager?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Yoga 900 - 2 months to receive a power cord? This is not reasonable or acceptable, manager?

Hi Joe,
I do not work for Lenovo, so I cannot check into your issue internally. It may be that you have not been lied to but simply that the agents you spoke with were not informed of progress on backorders or whatever the problem is. I am sorry that you and others have had to wait so long. I hope you will hear good news soon.

There's a problem with my charger for my Yoga. I have to bend the wire near the USB charger upwards at an angle or else it doesn't charge. I think it's the cord but I want to make sure it's not the computer. I've had a similar problem with my iPhone and it was the charger. Is there anyway to fix it or must I get another cord?

The power cord (with the orange USB connector) that came with my Yoga is too short for my office arrangement.  Does anyone know if a longer cord is available?  Can these cords only be purchased on the Lenovo site, or could I get one on Amazon, for example?  Thanks for any help!

The figure eight keeps getting a looser and looser connection to the adapter. Not sure if it is the adpters or the figure eights. I have two of each and they are both doing the same thing. I have to wiggle them around for a while to try to get it to start charging. Anyone else have this problem? Can you please tell me if I just need a new figure eight? If so, what kind? Since it's out of warranty now, I am hoping that someone can help. (It's becoming a hair pulling situation :l sigh) Thanks so much!

HiI bought a Flex 14 last Christmas. Since purchase it has consistantly blue screened after some use - this varies between a few minutes or a couple hours. After the blue screen I am typically presented with a boot load error, "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed", and a quick inspection in the boot manager reveals no HDD. Turning the laptop off completely and on again allows the laptop to boot to Windows again. I have also been presented with other errors after the laptop bluescreens such as a reboot loop on the Intel splash screen, or an automatic attempt by Windows to repair itself. I have tried reformating, updating, upgrading to Windows 8.1 all to no avail. The laptop has been collected by Lenovo service on three occasions for repair and each time it comes back the same. They even had the audacity to label the screen scratched. This is a brand new laptop that I have barely used. It is currently with the service centre and I have been told that parts must come from abroad. I don't know whether this means there will be a delay as there was no other information given. It is now over three months since I purchased this, yet I still do not have a working laptop. This is extremely frustrating and I have no confidence that this laptop will ever function normally. Yes I am venting on a public forum, because there doesn't seem to be any other channel to do so.

I thought my power cord on my notebook wasn't working. I would have to push and hold the cord in hard in order for it to charge the computer. I went and bought a new power cord and now it doesn't even charge the computer. The cord works because the green light on the cord box lights up when I plug it in. But it does not charge my computer. So now I am wondering if it is my laptop that is the issue and what I am supposed to do now? Has anyone else dealt with this? Any suggestions? Anything is appreciated, thank you!

Answer:Power Cord or power cord holder not working

Some clarifications and a couple of questions:- when you say "power cord", that can mean either the (detachable) wire from the AC outlet in the wall to the power supply (aka, AC adapter) or the wire from the power supply to the laptop (which is permanently attached)- was the "new power cord" you bought the entire power supply with AC cord?- I'm assuming that when you say the power supply doesn't charge your computer, it also doesn't operate it if the battery is removed, correct?- the green light on the power supply simply means that it is receiving AC power from the wall outlet. It does not mean that the appropriate voltage is getting out to the end of the cord which plugs into the laptop (aka, DC plug). And now that I think about it, the only factory power supply that I've seen that has a green light built in are the universal AC/DC adapters. This begs the question: is there an FRU number on the supply? To determine if the power supply is providing the correct DC voltage, you would need to connect a voltmeter to the DC plug. Depending upon the type of system you have, it would either be 16V or 20V. Since you've tried at least two different power supplies and they both don't work, then I can assume that the laptop has some sort of power problem. It could be as simple as a loose DC jack or a problem with the motherboard.

I just purchased a yoga 710 11.6" model and the first one had a good amount of backlight bleed coming through on three corners. Enough that I went in for an exchange. My second unit looks much better but still has a bit of bleeding in the lower left corner. Not really visible in normal tasks, but I notice it on boot up and any dark images/videos especially when viewed in a dark room. Of course it lessens with brightness, but is still there.  Is this acceptable or should I have it exchanged/replaced? I'd hate to do an exchange and get an even worse unit in return. This one isn't thaaaat bad, but I still notice it. The image is also a bit exaggerated from the camera and doesn't look as bad in person. Opinions?

Is there no Lenovo Power Management software for the ThinkPad Yoga? I liked the application. I noticed on the regular Yoga 2, there is an Energy Manager app. ?????

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga: No Lenovo Power Manager?

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If you are using Windows 8/8.1, I?m sorry to inform that Power manager doesn?t exist for the above said operating systems. Energy management is designed to work for Ideapads and ThinkPads are supported with a set of applications called Lenovo Think Vantage Toolbox. Unfortunately, Lenovo had to withdraw power manager for its ThinkPad models due to certain conflicts with Windows 8/8.1.

Hope this clarified your query!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I never had a problem so far, but, this is diss-appointing. How can I update or repair? Must I call LENOVO? My wife has a SAMSUNG tablet that has the best energy mananger system I ever used. Hello, just recently I'm a very happy owner of the yoga.I'm fine tuning the setup and tweaking all kind of things. With a different Lenovo I used in the past, I could use the power manager or the registry to specify a charge starting and ending point in percentages when hooking up the laptop to the main power, so it would for example charge to 80% instead of 100%. This was totally awesome to keep the battery healthy and keeping the Lenovo alive to the fullest. With the 720, I don't see the battery option anywhere. Things I tried are: -Registry edit-Installing system interface foundation-Installing power management from windows 7 or 8.1-Installing/reinstalling lenovo settings from windows store-Battery gauge tool install-Bios updates Unfortunately, they didn't work So my question is, has anyone set up the battery treshold on the Yoga 720. And how did you do it?Thanks for your answers!

Answer:Yoga 720 battery treshold set charge start stop power manager

Has nobody set up the battery treshold for charging? My first post was maybe confusing with the explanation of the different things I tried. Maybe in short my question is: when starting the 'Lenovo Settings', do the battery options show up, or did you have to do something special?

Please help! My current version Power Manager is 8.00.3.

The original adapter cord for my T61 laptop shorted and sparked right at the base of the laptop connector where the cord had apparently cracked through from too much bending.  Then the laptop worked fine on the battery until it ran out of juice.  There is no indication of power to the laptop on the replacement power adapter cord though.  I verified power at the laptop end of the replacement cord with a multi meter. I think this pretty well isolates the problem to between where the cord plugs in and where the battery power joins the circuit, right?  Would that be in the power supply?  I've read that there is not a "power supply" per se in laptops but that it is integral with the fan kit.  So should I just be ordering a replacement "Thermal device and fan (Integrated)" to fix this problem?  I see in the part list that this is marked as "not to be replaced by the customer".  Is that just a warranty statement, irrelevant outside of warranty, or should I be looking for a good repair shop? I have some experience with computer repair, but have not dealt with any repair shops in years, and have never dug into a laptop myself.  What I think I know to this point, as stated above, is based on a bit of web searching and general experience.  In reality, I'm very unsure of anything I've said regarding diagnosis or next steps.  Please advise. Thank you, James

I received the new Power Cord Recall Replacement.. After now using it, my computer freezes everytime I unplug or plug in the power cord. I feel like the recall should have included a new Power Adapter as well, becaues of the damage the power cord has already done, it makes the power adapter fault and danger.. Right? Anyway, does anyone know why this is happening or why HP is only replacing the power cord instead of the whole "power system."Thank you in advance,Kyle Vasquez with ListOrSwap.com

The system's fan was very loud so I put in a new power supply and then everything booted up fine. Unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem. It was the Motherboard fan making all the noise.

So, I put the old power supply back in and now the system doesn't power up at all. I checked all connections & I replaced the power cord and tried a different electrical outlet.

I even put the new P/S back in and nothing changed. It still doesn't power up. It's dead!

Any suggestions?

Do you mean the CPU fan ?
If so then I wonder if the CPU has been cooked

I would start by dispersing all internal voltage.
Detach the power cord
Press the power button in for 20 seconds
Re=attach the power cord
Try again

If it didn't fix then remove all addons, usb devices really anything attached (except screen and keyboard and power cord)
And try again

If it didn't fix then, confirm all internal connections are secure (even detach the dvd drive{s}

If it didn't fix then try disconnecting all fans (what !) for about 10 secs (turning on) I once had a fan of all things, that stopped my computer from turning on (unbelievable, I know)

Lastly, check the CPU for heat damage !

My g570 laptop is 4 years old, so probably time for a new one...BUT I'd like to get some more life out of this if I could.  Currently I'm running only on battery power. The power button (upper left right above the F1 key) is solid white however when I plug it in...it'll start charging for about 10 seconds and then it stops charging and the power button starts flashing white.  I've tried the shutting down, taking out the battery and pressing the power button and also holding the button to discharge. Still the same outcome. I've also tried turning it on with the battery removed and just the AC power source and it turns out and makes it past the Lenovo splash screen but loses power before getting to the windows loading screen.  Any other suggestions? Or should I just assume the charging circuit on the motherboard has failed and I should rescue my data while I can?

Sorry I don't know the proper terms, but basically the pin inside the jack where the power cord gets plugged into on my laptop was bent so that it's really hard for me to plug in my power cord and have it stay in place. My warranty with best buy has expired, so I need to figure out how to solve this problem on my own. I can't just leave it like this because the cord comes out really easily and I can't continue to work with such a tenuous setup. Anyway, is this just a matter of replacing the entire unit inside my laptop? I know you probably need more information, but I'm not sure what to provide, so please ask any questions. The laptop is a Toshia M-45, about 3-4 years old. Thanks in advance

On the power adapter for my new T460 the power cord only goes into the AC brick about 3/8" before it bottoms out.  Another 3/8" of the "skinny" part of the power cord plug is still outside the power brick. As a result, the power cord falls out of the brick at the slightest tug, pull or twist. I'm seriously afraid that one day I'll find I've lost the power cord half of the power supply. Why was the recessed part of the power brick made so shallow?  If the full 3/4" of the power adapter plug was allowed to be inserted into the power brick this problem would not happen. Anyone have a solution, other than buying a 3rd party power supply?

I ask because I think that's what's behind my computer powering itself off from the main desktop today.
Order of events:

- Go to turn on my computer, sees its not powering on after pressing the button.
- No problem, this has happened before, but not for a few months. Reaches back and pushes the power cable back in/ move the wire a little until I can turn the PC on.
-Pc turns on. Clicks the proper user, desktop appears, nothing unusual.
- Walks away for about 10ish seconds, comes back to see the computer powered off with the monitor saying what it usually does when I manually power down the PC.
- I turn if back on and it's been working for the past hour. Nothing in the event viewer, no mini dumps, Already set to not auto reboot on BSOD.

I just want to first see if the events that happened can possibly/likely be the cause of said power cord before I go any deeper to figure out the cause of the reboot. If there is anything you need to know or which I should check because it probably wasn't the power cord giving my PC the power it needs, please don't hesitate to post.

Hi all,

I wonder if someone could give me some advice as to whether the light bleed I'm experiencing on my Yoga 2 Pro is 'acceptable'. It doesn't bother me in normal day to day tasks like office work, email, web browsing but it's pretty distracting when watching videos in a dark / dim room, particularly where the video itself contains dark scenes or letterboxing.

I've done a bit of searching on the web it seems that black light bleed is a pretty common issue with these types of displays.

The following photos were taken on a DSLR in a totally dark room whilst running a video of complete black on youtube:

Brightness 100% - overexposed a bit in camera to show main areas of light bleed. The lower right corner is the most severe. Light bleed is also quite prevalent along the bottom of the screen.

Link to image 1

Brightness 70-80% - exposed to represent as closely as possible what i see when watching the black video in a dark room.

Link to image 2

Brightness at 50%

Link to image 3

Would this light bleed warrant a return? I bought this from John Lewis in the UK and they have an excellent returns policy. I do love the laptop but the light bleed is pretty annoying. I've seen some images of other peoples light bleed and I worry that if I was to get this replaced I may end up with one with much worse light bleed than what I currently have.

Any thoughts and advice would be most appreciated.

It charges just fine. Once it starts up it works without the cord until it needs recharging (hours). However, whether it is fully charged, partially charged, or almost dead, it will not start up without the AC cord. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Answer:Yoga 2.11 Won't Start without AC cord

Hi mamaflynn ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Seems that the integrity of the battery is in question here.

Step 1
Initially you may uninstall the Microsoft ACPI from device manager  and restart the PC.

Step 2
Uninstall Energy Management from programs and feature under control panel .
Check if this would allow battery alone to start without the charger plugged in.

Step 3.
If the same issue , it may be the battery is starting to have issue ,
Check on the battery status from the command line .
Lower part would indicate battery usage history and charge time.

You may check your covered warranty here and call in tech support for further repair option.

Most of the AC adapters available for the Yoga 900 have a terribly short 6 foot cord. I found this 40 W adapter on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Laptop-AC-Adapter-Lenovo-Yoga-IdeaPad-Miix-GX20H34904-Charger-Power-Cord/dp/B... Has anyone tried out this adapter with their Yoga 900? I heard others post that 40 W adapters will overheat with the Yoga 900, though this adapter says it has overheat protection. Another option would be a tip adapter that could convert other 65 W, 20 V Lenovo adapters to the new USB+notch power plug. Does anyone else have a solution, other than using an extension cord with the 6 ft adapter?

I've purchased FOUR replacement cords now for my computer.   Each one, including the original, has developed the same problem.   It eventually won't connect to the wall outlet unless I jiggle it just right.  And then I have to make sure I don't jiggle or else the computer will come unplugged.  It eventually makes a sparking noise sometimes when I plug it in.   And sometimes I have even seen a spark.   This surely has to be a fire hazzard.   Does anyone else have this problem?   I wonder if Lenova shouldn't recall these cords.   These were all Lenova brand cords purchased through Best Buy.  I just bought my next replacement today, and I'm sure it will develop the same problem.

Hi Payton1 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

There are several things to check with how such surge happens.
This would include the power outlet, adapter charger integrity, systemboard, DC-in power port and others.

It would be best to call in technical support for a recommendation in such case.
Checking on the recall site, Yoga 3 Pro is not included and not much about this topic reported here on our forums too. You can also check yours from the part validation if included and with procedures on how to proceed in such case.

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards

Does anyone know where I can purchase a DC power cord for my T60 AC/DC power adapter (92P1109}? I have lost mine and do not want to purchase a completely new adapter. Thanks.

Answer:DC power cord for T60 power adapter 92P1109

The part numbers for the power cord itself can be found here. You might be able to find that FRU for purchase online, but the easiest way is to call IBM Spare parts. Info about that is here.

Answer:Power cord or power jack failure

hi and welcome to TSG can you use your battery to power it untill you get what you need off.if you can get hold of another known good power supply for your make and model you can try it if that does not work then the problem is likely to be the jack point. i would not advise you to attempt the repair rather you took it for repair, laptops are a real devil to access and have many delicate parts which are easily broken even by the best

Hello all.  This is an odd one. I have a T430s that I'm cleaning up for our company. I discovered that it would power on fine when on battery without the power cord connected. When the power cord is connected, it won't come on at all. I dug into the BIOS and found a setting that had been disabled for it to power on with the power cord (Don't know why the prior user would have it that way). Now that I've changed that, it powers on fine with the power cord connected, but not when it's on battery. The power cord is fine. When I power it up it shows it's charging the battery. And I used two different power cords. Also, if I press the power button when the power cord is disconnected, nothing happens but I plug the power cord in and it immediately boots as though something had been going on but I just couldn't see it. And lastly, even when this is supposedly completely and absolutely shut down, the green light on the fingerprint scanner blinks slowly.  Does anyone have any thoughts on getting this to boot like a normal laptop and turning off that blinking light? I'm sure that light isn't a huge power drain but I'm also sure it can't be normal for this to be on when it is supposedly shut down.  Many thanks!

Answer:T430s won't power on without power cord connected ...

If you pull the power cord out while it is running, does it immediately die?  Are you sure the battery is good?  Is it a Lenovo or aftermarket battery?  I have seen aftermarket batteries act like they are good and charge, but really don't work.  As far as the fingerprint reader, go into the BIOS.  Under security/fingerprint, erase fingerprint data.

Well, one month if you're just looking at the replacement....  original laptop was purchased in February and received in March; had issues with the fan and digitizer so had it replaced end of march. Got replacement April 6th, and two issues above are no longer a concern as the fan is reasonably quiet (barely hear it when in power saver mode, which is what I'm in most of the time), and no issues to date with the touch screen, so overall, I'm pleased.  things I really do like about the laptop: - form factor; I like the flexibility to flip the screen.- back lit keyboard...very useful at night in dark rooms...- USB port doubling as an AC port...not sure why this was never thought of earlier....- 1080p screen...I'm glad they didn't come with a higher resolution as I believe that it's currently a sweet spot for battery performance, and icon scalability within windows apps...- really like the feel of the touch pad....and this is from someone that usually hates touch pads...it works well and mimics touchscreen behaviours well, albeit that one bug that doesn't activate dual touch for context menus without messing with your registry manually...- Battery capacity & battery life; I believe the battery was supposed to be rated at 44Wh, but out of the box, both devices I had were being detected as 46Wh, and were both being charged to over 50Wh....on power saver, I can usually get 7-9hrs of life, depending on what I'm doing, although I got one rep... Answer:Yoga 3 14 - 2 months in...

Just an ammendment to the above; after some more research and playing with the system, it would seem that it isn't thermal throttling, but TDP throttling due to surpassing the wattage limit 15watts that's killing performance...  The sad part of it is that it really isn't needed as the system could handle it fine, and you can see it for the 30-45 seconds that it allows turbo to run past the 15 watt limit, where it reaches 18-20watts easily underload, and temps are staying within reasonable  (usually mid  70's to low 80's)  Now, I understand the reasoning for limiting to 15watts, while running on battery power; totally understandable... But when plugged in, I want all the potential power available to to me when I need/want it, and what makes it worse, is that the system as is teases that it can handle it, before dropping down to a lower power state. Not only that, but the TDP is not just turning off turbo, but dropping the speed of the processor below its advertised speeds to satisfy the 15watt limit.  As I know this is not a set in stone value mandated by Intel, and that each manufacturer can set their own TDP limits, I'd like to see either a) raise the TDP levels to something more reasonable (19-20watts), and let thermal throttling take care of overheating if it happens to be the case (really no sense having two throttling methods when plugged to the wall), or b) unlock the TDP settings to let entheusiasts to set their own TDP limit via... OK, so I've been using my Yoga for 6 months now, and that gives me enough time to have pretty much formed a permanent opinion of it. Overall: It's been absolutely great.  I rarely wind up with a piece of technology that exceeds my expectations/hopes, but this has done it.  I build my own desktops, and had built my past 3 laptops as well.  However, I wanted something very niche to suit my wide range of usage needs, and building it was not practical (probably not possible either, for that matter).  That isn't to say that it's perfect; there are a few issues, which will be covered later.  But it's been better than I had hoped, and that's a tall order. What I use it for: Basically, pretty much everything.  I use it for light gaming when I travel.  I use it as a replacement for paper-printed flashcards in the classroom when I teach.  I use it for touch-screen edutainment games between classes (think wordworm).  I use it for software and web development (c++, php), everywhere from an office to standing on the train and holding it in one hand while typing with the other.  I use it for watching movies/TV/Youtube on the go.  Heck, my cats even use it as a heating pad. The good: The screen.  It's high res enough to fit a ton of code on the screen, yet large enough to use in a classroom and the kids in the back can see it.  And despite being one-handed in both laptop and tablet mode, and getti... The Wi-Fi was spotty and I sent in the computer for repair under warranty. Warranty would not cover the repair so I paid $150 for the repair. It took 3 months for me to get a response saying they could not find the part to repair and they would be shipping out a new computer instead. It's been three weeks and I haven't gotten any updates on the computer whatsoever. I've tried calling the repair center in the US and I am getting the runaround saying my case is assigned to someone called Matthew Weaver who has not been responding to emails or calls. When I talk to a lower level representative, the only thing they said they can do is assign the case to another "higher up". I've been without a laptop for 4 months for repairs that I paid for and I simply cannot find an alternative way to talk to someone who can move this case along. Is there anybody on this forum that can help me with the case? I really need the laptop back for my business, it has been a quarter of the year since I've been without this laptop. I am extremely frustrated by this situation. I've only purchased ThinkPads for the last 10 years and this will most likely be my last seeing that customer service has fallen so far since Lenovo took over from IBM. The escalation case number is 403WWBL.

I bought a Yoga 2 in October, and last week it died. Won't power on, plugged or unplugged, all that happens when you hold the power button down is the battery status light flashes amber 3 times. Have tried holding the power button down for 20 seconds, nothing. Phoned Lenovo technical 'helpline' over the weekend, guy told me the unit would need to be returned for repair, and they would possibly have to replace the main board. He went on to inform me that if I wanted to save any data that was stored on the hard drive, I should employ the services of a data recovery expert, and that I should backup my data regularly. Now, the way I see it is that my data is (presumably) still on the machine, but a fault with either the components or the manufacturing means that I can't get at it. The guy wouldn't budge, and stuck very diligently to the approved Lenovo script ("very sorry, but the warranty covers hardware only blah blah blah"). I've got 4 months' worth of university work on this machine, so I'm bit p'd off at the minute. Can anyone on here advise how I go about raising a formal customer complaint with Lenovo? Thanks

Answer:Yoga 2 13 dead after 4 months

You can raise a complaint with Lenovo, sure. Call them back again and try to talk to a manager BUT I dont think lenovo provides data backup or recovery services.

Even if they did, it would cost you extra. Ideally, you should have backed up such important work (even if thats in google drive, I know I do, coz i have lost work before)

Your best bet is some data recovery guy who can do this without voiding your warranty. (coz if you open your laptop and void the warranty then Lenovo wont even repair it).

Sorry and best of luck.

Hi All,  I bought a Yoga 900-13ISK and after 6 months, with no reason at all, it crashed. The only thing I get is the Lenovo sign when I turn it on. I then get a blue pop up screen (After 10 minutes aproximately) stating "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Insert Recovery Media and Hit any Key. Then select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media. If I reboot it to get the BIOS Menu, it does not do anything until 30 minutes later, that the BIOS screen starts up (I can see the Hard Disk detected (Liteon CV1-8B256 SSD). I tried booting it with a USB containing hiren software with XP and errors still appear. Any idea? I haven't installed anything weird lately. It started happening from one day to the other. Any clues? ThanksErnesto

I noticed my hinges were getting loose and also the display kind of wobled in the pretty standard position - approx.angle 125deg.   I contacted local Lenovo service partner and he suggested replacing the hinges which turned out to be a good idea as one of the old hinges turned out to be faulty. I had a possibility to hold both of the replaced hinges and test them and there was a huge difference between the left one and the right one. The left one moved freely in the range + - 5 degrees in any position. Pretty weird as I had previously heard so much  praise regarding the Lenovo yoga hinges. The issue has been resolved for me but it may happen to other users so I think it is good to know such an issue may arise in time to come. If so, hopefully within the product warranty. Take care David

hey

My Equium A60-692 has stopped receiving any power from the AC adaptor (tho I've metered it and its giving out a good 19v). I've noticed the end of the adaptor (the end that goes into the laptop) is different to normal ones. Rather than having a hole at the center that a spike on the laptop fits into, its just got a flat piece of metal. Just wondered this was normal and the problem is inside the laptop or if the spike has somehow snapped off and is stuck into the adaptor. It looks like its supposed to be this way but it seems a bit weird...

cheers

Answer:Equium A60-692 Power supply - laptop doesn't receive any power

HI Rodders,

Bad news I'm afraid. The flat piece of metal that you describe is the back end of the central pin that has snapped off the inside of the power socket on your notebook. This is quite a common occurrence (check out some of the other posts on these forums).

Unfortunately the solution to this problem is for your nearest Authorised Service Partner to replace the mainboard (quite expensive!) unless you can find someone willing to solder in a new power socket.

Very sorry to be the bearer of such bad tidings.

Hi,

I have owned a yoga 13 since January, which I'm quite happy with apart from some well-known problems (fan noise and weak wi-fi).

I have however observed an abnormally high rate of maximum battery capacity loss. This is the battery capacity history report since I first got the machine:

Link to picture

You will notice that today (November 2013) the full charge capacity of the 54 mWh battery is only 41 mWh, which is a 24% loss over 10 months.

This seems a bit excessive to me, and it also renders my Yoga less useful: it now lasts about 4 hours at best, instead of the 5:30 is used to last when it was new.

Is this normal or something that would call for a warranty repair?

If it's normal, does anybody know where I can get a replacement battery in Europe? Local lenovo rep wasn't much help...

Thanks for the help,
Spyros

Does anyone here know who I can complain to about my Lenovo repair? I sent a Yoga X1 for repair of a non-responsive touch screen TWO MONTHS ago and they still haven't fixed it. They said it would take only 5 days. They claim to be waiting on parts to arrive but I'm starting to suspect they are trying to wait until my warranty expires next month. What recourse do I have at this point? Better Business Bureau? I loved the machine for about a year but this is absurd. It was my third Lenovo and it will probably be my last.

I had my Y2P for four months, I bought the i7 8GB RAM 256GB SSD model from BestBuy. I don't play any games or do any heavy useage except streaming videos (if that counts) and one day in the middle of streaming a video from Amazon my computer just died with no warning. I tried booting it back up but the light that indicates the laptop is plugged in doesn't even register. I tried booting it while disconnected from any power source and through three different outlets around my house and I got nothing. I took it to BestBuy and the guy checked it and couldn't revive it so they sent it to their service center. I called and they told me they had to replace the motherboard. My question to anyone that is willing to help is whether there was anything I could of done that could of killed the motherboard or do I assume that it was just naturally faulty? Could the AC adapter and/or power supply have anything to do with why it died? The laptop was charging and running pretty hot (not burning hot, but hot) when it suddenly died.  Any thoughts would be great!

Today the key cap for the right control key on my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga S1 (2014 model, 20CD) went missing. I have absolutely no idea how it happened, this morning when I went to put it into my bag as usual to go to work the keycap just wasn't there. I've searched up and down the house but no luck. I didn't drop it or had anything falling on it, it must have just fallen off during normal handling. I've never had any key fall off before on any of the laptops I've had so far. So I call Lenovo support. The device is 13 months old, so just out of warranty. Key caps are not sold separately. A replacement keyboard is 96 pounds + VAT. If I want it installed by Lenovo it's another 212 pounds + VAT for the labour. Seriously? That's 370 pounds total for a missing key that fell off on its own 1 month after the warranty expired. For 320 I can get a one year old used S1 on ebay.

Hi everyone, I recently noticed that the battery life of my Thinkpad Yoga 12 has drastically decreased since I bought it two months ago. In the beginning I could get 5 hours of battery easily. Now it's down to 2 hours - in normal office mode. The long battery life was one of the reasons why I bought it initially - and now it's failing me. I don't recall having done anything to the battery, hence I am totally clueless as to why the battery life has decreased so severely. Any suggestions and help highly appreciated. Thank you,Kai

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 12: Battery life down down to 2 hrs after just 2 months

Find or install the app Lenovo Settings.

Go to Lenovo Settings > Home > Power > click on "Show details"

You will see there the Full Charge Capacity and the Designed Capacity. Tell me these numbers. If these numbers differ a lot your battery was corrupted due to aging related stress or other problems.

You can also try Lenovo Settings > Home > Power > Battery Gauge Reset to try to reset the way your computer measures full capacity, but if you experience 2 hours only this wont help.

I just bought two desktops from two people on craigslist and managed to mix up the power cords. There is a custom built computer with an Ultra X3 850Watts Modular power supply and a dell studio xps 7100. There was also a 24 in samsung monitor that needs a power cord but only two cords so I guess one cord is missing. There's a 10A 125v cord and a 150v cord. We also have a 300v cord laying around. Does anyone know which goes to which or if they would work. I have been searching for ages and can't find anything please help! I was so excited to use it!

Question: Uh...Power Cord

Ok, I feel stupid, what with all the threads here dealing with CPU Processors and other high tech hardware...

I was wondering a few things.

Has anyone had a problem before where the connection to the power cord breaks? Causing the computer to read as though it wasn't plugged in? This is happening where the cord enters the Laptop.

I am wondering what the problem could be, the cord, or the laptop.

I am on a Sony VAIO.

Could anyone tell me if it is possible to fix said problem? Or where to buy a new one?

Is it supposed to be loose? If I jiggle it, the power cuts and it goes to battery life, so I figure it isn't supposed to be.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Ok so, on May i got a new psu because my previous one was dying. My current psu is a NOD ATX 450w [psu-004], i know it's cheap but so far i experienced no problems, it's pretty silence and all, computer runs fine (kind of slow but it's old). The previous week i moved my pc only a tiny bit (imagine my computer being in a right angle, the angle i created was about 30/90) so i can unplug my headset and plug the speakers in and i heard a really weird scratching sound from the power cord (it moved a tiny bit when i moved the computer but not that much, at least not enough to lose contact in my opinion), at first nothing happened, but then when i moved it back to its position the cable moved a bit more, made that sound again and the computer turned off. I got worried of course but i moved the cable a bit just in case the contact was bad. My computer turned on just fine. I had no issues after that, no sudden reboots, nothing. Today, i did the same thing, i wanted to plug my headset back, so i moved the computer a bit, same angle and all, i didn't hear the noise but my computer turned off. I didn't move the computer after that, i simply moved the cable a tiny bit to make sure it's in the right place. Then i tried to turn on my computer and it didn't turn on. I tried multiple times but still nothing, not even fans spinning. So i waited a little bit trying to think why is this happening and what can i do. I decided to give it one more shot and it turn... Answer:Bad psu or bad power cord?

If you don't want your computer to fry then replace the power supply, it'll come with a new power cord as well.

Do you know what cheap power supplies are known for? Frying components when they fail.

Get a quality power from a quality manufacturer like Corsair, Antec, Seasonic, eVGA, etc. Also it'll depend on what components you have in the PC, a 450 watt may be plenty or nowhere near enough, and it should also match the use of your system; a high-end or gaming system should have a matching higher end power supply. All those manufacturer's have both entry level, mid level, and high end power supplies.

The sound you heard was probably sparking from a poor connection, that could just be a bad fit on the power cable or a more serious issue in the power supply.

Answer:Power Cord: How Hot is Too Hot???

Out of curiosity I just picked up an old power adaptor that was on my desk.It had some tiny symbols on it and among them was one indicating a thermal cutout with a temp rating of 115C.Almost burning your hand would put it around 70C I would think.Carefully inspect yours to see if you can find any temp ratings on it.Failing that you could email the manufacturer or look in the book you got with the laptop for specifications, they're usually right at the front or at the back.Almost burning your hand sounds OK to me but check it out just in case.

Thanx in advance.

Question: Power Cord

I purchase a new power cord that matches the one came with my laptop. Now I keep receiving message that my cord is not accepted and will not charge. How do i get the my laptop to accept the cord so it will charge

Answer:Power Cord

Sounds like the new one isn't the same, even if it looks the same.  There are a lot of counterfeit AC adapters out there that look like genuine OEM adapters.  I would return the one you just bought.

Question: Power Cord

I just got a new ThinkPad T410 and also got a power hub.  Like an idiot, I unpacked everything at once and now can't tell which power cord goes with what.  Can someone please tell me how long the regular computer power cord is - the part that goes from the wall to the adapter?  Either cord will fit into either adapter, so maybe it doesn't matter?  One cord is only about 3' long, the other is over 5'.  Thank you!

Answer:Power Cord

does not matter use any of them they are the same, only the length differs.

Question: Power Cord

I am having troubles with my power cord. Here is what is wrong:

My computer switches to Battery Power instead of A/C power. While my computer is off, it charges normally. This means: It detects my A/C adapter, which is working properly, but simply prefers battery power while on. (Specifically, once it reaches the User Login Screen, it switches to battery power).

What this problem is not:
This is not a problem with damaged cord or socket, or wall socket. This is not a matter of wiggling my cord to get it charging.

What I have tried:
I have tried a system restore. I cannot find any preference of power source (Battery over A/C) in Start>Control Panel>Power Options. I have tried running the computer without my battery inside it. (LOL WTF M8??) I have tried unplugging the cord, replugging it, different wall sockets.

I assume this is just some setting which has been switched to favor battery power over A/C power. I am using an Administrator Account on Windows XP.

Question: power cord

I recently had my computer in for a fan fix, it only needed cleaning, while it was there i had more memory installed, but when i got it back the battery was dead, i plugged it in and it started charging, i opened it up and turned it on and it started up but after a few minutes it went off. i tried this several times it kept repeating, as the battery charged it would stay on a little longer but it would still go off.  i let it charge to 90 % and started again.   it still went off.  i unplugged the AC cord and the computer stays on.....does not go off, the box on the power cord was VERY VERY hot, do i need to replace the whole cord  Did the increased memory cause the power cord to over heat?  I can't find anything in the owners section to find out if this is the case.  any help is greatly appreciated.  i  have a z61 m    model #9450a38Message Edited by cooper82 on 11-13-2008 08:11 PMMessage Edited by cooper82 on 11-13-2008 08:14 PM

Question: LS-034 Power Cord

The power cord overheats and smells like it is burning. It is often too hot to touch. Worst of all, the grounding third prong fell off from normal wear and tear and the tip that goes into the laptop bent. This product should have been recalled. I would not recommend it to anyone and I would like to get it replaced.

Hi, I've been using Thinkpad machines for over 6 years now and have had to use the internationl warrany services before without any issue on machines from the US, UK, Germany and Portugal. This time I had a 2015 Yoga 14 which had from the start an issue with the hinges. When contacting the customer service they said that it would cost 200 to repair a faulty hinge! Then I contacted Lenovo on Facebook and they arranged me a repair. The laptop has been since May 9 in repair with no estimated repair date and now they have stopped answering my emails. I have been for almost two months without my working machine when it was supposed to take 7 days!! This is unaceptable that its happening to the brand that used to have the best customer service and support, and I will definetly never buy or recommend a Thinkpad Yoga ever. Does anyone have any suggestion on what to do when this happens? Thank you ?

My daughter's yoga 2 crashed in the summer of 2015 after buying it for christmas 2014.  After much going back and forth, lenovo fixed it in september 2015, replacing the mother board, hard drive, keyboard, plastic, and touch pad.  In June 2016 it crashed again, this time with a bad disk drive so we can't boot into windows.  Occasionally I've gotten to the windows repair options and when I've done diagnostics windows tells me that the hard drive is about to fail so it can't repair the drive, so we can't boot into windows.   My warranty ended at the end of 2015, so when I try to get support from lenovo I can't get anywhere.  However, lenovo replaced the drive only 9 months ago - it should not be bad at this point.  How can I get support on this bad part? If I can't, can you please point me to a hard drive replacement that I can purchase?  The serial number is YB07716163. I can do the repair myself, but I'd prefer to know that the replacement will be compatible at this point so that my daughter can actually use her computer.  Charles

Answer:yoga 2 disk drive failed 9 months after repaired, ...

I think you can replace the hard drive. But you need to make sure the port is SATA or IDE.In this way you can order the right one you need.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this. I just received my new HP computer today. The only problem with it is the wrong power cord. The adapter (brick like thing) plugs into the computer correctly, however the power cord from the adapter to the wall outlet is the wrong one (adapter has a 3-blade type configuration, the power cord is for 3 round type configuration). I have a power cord for a AOC monitor that would fit the adapter and was wondering if there would be any problem using this on until I get the replacement from HP. Thanks for any help.

Question: Laptop Power Cord

My girlfriend has been bedridden due to an operation. I put my laptop on the bed so she can use it when I get up and put it in the case at night. I leave the power cord plugged into the wall all night but no PC plugged into it. There is a light on all the time on the rectangular thingy on the cord. Is it bad to leave the power cord plugged in all the time? Thanks,

Does anyone living in Korea know where I can buy Schuko to IEC-60320 cords for my computers? I forgot to buy the cords in America even though I kept on reminding myself to buy it. Will I have to find a online retailer that ships internationally? Or will I have to search around in the streets of Seoul to find someone in the streets selling them? I know where to get adapters but I know that buying an actual cord is better since adapters can fail more easily than the cord itself. I know that there is a giant building dedicated to selling electronics in Downtown but I am not sure if they have the cord since I have been there multiple times but I never saw a floor for electronic components.

Answer:Where to buy PC power cord in Korea

Hi there

Can't remember if S.Korea uses 220 V or not but if it uses European system these should work.

Convert Schuko Plug Male to IEC 60320 C5 Connector Female 2.5 Amp 250 Volt - Our Item #: 1603, Category: Euro Grounded Block Style Plug Adapters : StayOnline

I know you don't like adapters but these work very well indeed - so I don't think you need worry on that score -- actually the Mains itself in the USA is a lot more unreliable than one would expect from a ist world country -- due a lot though to huge areas for transmission lines, unpredictable and severe climate in parts causing havoc with the transmission lines-- and having that rather inefficient 110 V domestic AC voltage (Ever tried to boil a kettle in USA for a cup of tea !! -- you need a wacking 30 Amp circuit because of the lower voltage (Ohm's law !!!). Airco also needs much larger amperages than Europe. (P in Watts = I * V where I in amps and V in Volts -- so a 3KW kettle in the USA would need 3000/110 = approx. 30 AMPS !!!!. Nice thick fuse. !!!! Next time you are in the USA ask yourself why you don't see many electric kettles around !!.

Cheers

I am wanting to install another HDD and possible a 3rd in my computer. Each dedicated to movies, pics, etc...
If i use one power cord will that work and if so should i be concerned with overall power supply?

Windows 7
MSI z87 g55 Mobo.

Through my mobo i can disable the other drives from booting and still use them for storage correct?

Answer:Connecting 2 HDD's onto same power cord.

I suppose you could get really crazy and overload the psu with too many drives but, for the most part, you can use splitters to be able to supply power to additional drives.

You can specify which drive is the boot drive so, yes, you can use the other drives for storage. It's best though to format those drives to remove the old OS and claim it's drive space in order to increase available storage space.

I have a Dell Inspiron with an extended life battery that sticks out the back a little. The power cord is dying - works intermittently. I have a potential replacement cord that came with a different laptop I?d like to use. However, I am uncertain if this may cause problems or even be unsafe.

First concern:
The current, non-working, power cord has a hexagonal (cross-section) male end that plugs into the laptop. The replacement cord has the more typical round (cylindrical) end. The replacement cord does fit in the laptop and it is not apparent, physically, that it is a problem.

Second Concern:
The current, non-working (hexagonal), cord input matches the input on the replacement (round) cord, as expected since they're U.S. cords meant for U.S. power sources. However, the output is not the same.

current, non-working (hexagonal), cord output: DC 19.5V 3.34A
replacement (round) cord output: DC 19.5V 4.62A

Will the higher amperage of the replacement cord cause a problem, especially a potential safety issue? The laptop is left plugged in for long periods of time, unattended. I?d hate to start a fire.

Can someone with more electrical knowledge let me know if my concerns have merit or is my little, but more than zero, knowledge of electricity creating a concern where there should be none.

If the cord will fit the plug without changing polarity, you don't have a problem there.

As long as you operate at the same voltage and supply enough current you will be fine. Same voltage as in DC or AC and the same number value for the amount of voltage.

Current values (3.34A) can be higher as long as the are not ... Read more

I was given an old computer with monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers. But when I got it home and tried to set it up, it didn't have the power cord that goes from the main speaker to the wall outlet. I cannot find one on the net but I did locate one, I think, at the Sony site but they wanted over $30 for it. This cable has to have a little round plug with a hole in it at one end and a regular plug for the wall at the other end. The pc is a Sony PCV-RX755 and the speaker model # is KPCVA-SP3. Does anyone know where I can get a cord for the speakers or will other cords work, like ones for cell phone chargers, if I can find one that will fit into the speaker?

Thanks, lil ole granny

Answer:need speaker power cord

On the speaker unit itself does it indicate what voltage, amperage, polarity is needed?
Armed with this information you can go and find a replacement power adapter.
Output Voltage would probably be in the range 9v to 12v.
