using older Sony flat screen monitor as external monitor on Yoga 900

Question: using older Sony flat screen monitor as external monitor on Yoga 900

I'm trying to use an older flat screen monitor as an extended monitor on my Yoga 900 series laptop. I have a VGA to USB connector. The reason I"m trying to do this is that I cannot use Windows 10 terminal server to remote to my clients server because the resolution is so high everything is tiny. (I have played with the resolution on my laptop; also the scaling, but when I finally get to a full screen resolution I can see, the cursor disappears in the apps I'm using). I can get the external monitor to work in extended mode just fine and the result on the old monitor is exactly what I want. But when I'm in remote desktop, running Microsoft Access, the screen flickers and after just a few mminutes, blacks out. I can revive it, but this is not a workable solution. I have a couple of other flat screens monitors I could try - but they are also older. I'm willing to try them, but don't want to spend the time if someone else has a better idea. Do I need a more up to date monitor or should I suspect the converter cable.....OR is there another solution out there for my 'older' eyes?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: using older Sony flat screen monitor as external monitor on Yoga 900

Hello, The solution is to increase the resolution in the Display tab of your Remote desktop application:http://i.stack.imgur.com/MmSkB.jpgYou can even still use your two monitors if you want, by clicking "Use all my monitors for the remote session". About the strange Access problem, I would update the BIOS and the display driver of the Yoga, if it hasn't been done already:http://support.lenovo.com/fr/fr/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Yoga-Series/yoga-900-13isk/downloads/D...http://support.lenovo.com/fr/fr/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Yoga-Series/yoga-900-13isk/downloads/D...

Hi Don't know whether anyone can adivise me what to do to correct this problem ie When I switch on my PC and the Monitor the amber light turns to green, instead of Windows loading the screen stays dark, but you can see the screen rolling[the controls are as follows 1 Off/On Switch 2 Menu 3 Contrast 4 Brightness 5 two up and down buttons 6 OK Button. The only way I can get Windows to load is to unplug the kettle plug from the back of the monitor and plug it back in,Windows then loads.None of the controls appear to be working. The Monitor is connected to the PC & Monitor by a Standard D Sub fitting at each end.I would like to be able to start afresh ie back to default settings but cant find a way to do so in the online manual for this monitor.Any help or advise appreciated.Michael

Hello all,
I have a Phillips 32" LCD (model # 32TA2800/98) that I connect my laptops to with a VGA cable. I usually had my Gateway NV53A (AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4200 series Graphics card) connected and I never had a problem. Recently I connected my Samsung to the monitor and again, had no problems. When I reconnect my gateway the PC detects the monitor but the monitor does not detect the PC. If I switch back to the Samsung it works fine. I have reset the TV to factory default the only way I know how (owners manual). I have unplugged the power cable to the TV for 10 min+. I have changed from a 14 pin VGA to a 15 pin. I have updated all drivers.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Answer:1 monitor (Phillips 32" flat screen), 2 laptops, only 1 laptop detected by monitor

It appears this one has got them all stumped. I really need help with this one and I am at a total loss. I would be forever in someones debt.

Could it be that the TV has a capacitor that holds the settings for an extended period of time? Maybe I should leave it unplugged for 24-48 hours?

Im doing this for my Dad, so i have absolutely no idea how to describe the problem but i figured this place was my best shot as google is giving me no results on my query.
There appears to be no monitor drivers installed on the pc... and its running from the bare minimum settings. I think the refresh rate is set at a low low low setting, because lets say, if i move a window by dragging it across the screen, its all choppy, doesnt move smoothly at all... sort of like it jumps every half a second until i stop moving my mouse, then stops. The same with when i'm scrolling in internet explorer... smooth scrolling doesnt exsist! lol

I figured it was a driver problem seeing as there wasnt one installed. So i found the disk with the drivers on, and followed the instructions, which were as follows:
"Right Click" the mouse anywhere on the "BLANK" area on the desktop and click on PROPERTIES.
Click the SETTINGS tab and then click ADVANCED.
Click the MONITOR tab and then click PROPERTIES.
Under MONITOR PROPERTIES, click DRIVER then click UPDATE DRIVER.
On the HARDWARE UPDATE WIZARD, select Install from a list of specific location (ADVANCED) then click Next.
On the next HARDWARE UPDATE WIZARD window, select DON’T SEARCH, I WILL CHOOSE THE DRIVER TO INSTALL. Then click NEXT.
On the following window, click on HAVE DISK.
Type “D:\ENGLISH\DRIVERS” (Where “D” is the drive letter of your CD ROM Drive) on INSTALL FROM DISK window then click on OK.

Additional monitor drivers are usual not needed. What do you have for a video adapter and are those drivers installed? Right click on My Computer choose Properties/Hardware/Device Manager. What information is listed under Video Adapters?
Also what are your screen resolution and refresh settings?

My X1 Yoga 2nd Gen OLED has a great feature wherein, outside of normal Windows screen dimming, within the Lenovo Settings app, user can set a "Task Bar Dimmer" timeout and a "Background Dimmer" timeout. This is described as a power-saving feature, but in reality its a great way to ensure that the OLED screen doesn't experience burn-in over time when on-screen items are displayed for prolonged periods. However, when I connect to an external monitor (which is almost always), the Task Bar Dimmer and Background Dimmer ONLY affect the external monitor and no longer affect the OLED display, where (IMO) this is far more important. Am I missing something, or is this a bug? Dimming the taskbar on the OLED is far more critical than on my monitor.

I have spent hours trying to work this out to no avail. I have a T60P with a  ATI Mobility FIREGL V5250 video card External screen is Viewsonic VG2230WM What i am trying to do is make the viewsonic my MAIN screen and then the laptop screen as #2 the extended screen. I currently have it working in reverse however the options in the display settings are greyed out to enable me to make the viewsonic the main screen Any help would be much appreciated, I found quite a few posts about this but no solutions. Marc

Answer:T60P external monitor problem, setup external monitor as main and laptop screen as # 2 Vista 32bit

This isnt a complete solution but it helps... you can just drag your taskbar onto the external monitor screen.

I have HP Desktop Tower Pavilion with windows 10, I had two HP S2031 monitors in dual mode, worked fine. One of them died, I got a good deal on a larger HP 27er monitor.  I hooked it up, they were both working fine ... it was using a default monitor
setting ... and then yesterday the computer downloaded some updates, and in doing so, it downloaded the driver for the HP 27er and installed.  The next thing that happens is the older HP S2031 starts to go dark ... like it is going into sleep mode, and
then it is totally black.  On reboot, it starts up with both monitors working, but within seconds of reboot the HP S2031 goes black again. The HP S2031's buttons do nothing, other than the power button, which turns it off and on, but that is it.
I have done all troubleshooting, I did not even have them set up to sleep, all settings are at NEVER.  In coming here, I have done all the fixes I can find for similar  that are posted for similar issues, the Windows Key + W... nothing.
The create new power plan ... nothing.  the device manger>display adapters>disable then enable ... nothing.  and lastly Start>Control Panel>System>Device Manager>display adapter>driver tap>update ... still nothing.  HOW
DO I GET THE HP S2031 MONITOR TO NOT BE IN SLEEP AND HAVE BLACK SCREEN.  I can not figure this out and am not finding any fix.

I have been using a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro for just over a year. I use it at work with an external monitor which I connect via a micro-HDMI to VGA adapter. There are several times during the day that the screen on the external montior would flicker, and the connection would be lost. I would usually just reconnect the display and the external monitor would display again.  A few days ago (4 days after the warranty expired), while connected to the external display, the monitor on my Yoga went completely black. Now it won't come back on. Sometimes on startup I can see a very faint "Lenovo" logo, but that quickly goes away. I know the computer is still on because the windows logo still vibrates on the screen when touched. Anyway, does anybody know what could be causing this and how to fix it? I took it to my local Microsoft store and they said that I should replace the motherboard, but I got a feeling they didn't really know what was going on with it. I have not had any problems with this computer until now and it would be a shame if the motherboard is indeed the problem. I have really liked the computer but don't think I would buy another lenovo if I had to replace the motherboard. I have never dropped or significantly damaged it. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 2 screen went black while on external monitor and won't come back on

hi smalley3,

Welcome to the Forums.

The flickering issue maybe due to a bad LCD cable or in some cases, a faulty GPU (the GPU is integrated to the CPU, and the CPU is soldered to the motherboard).

If there's still no image on the screen even after connecting an external display then you likely have a bad GPU.

In this case, I recommend you contact support for service (and also to see if there's a consideration that can be done on the warranty repair).

I was using my Yoga 3 with an external monitor over the micro HDMI port almost for a year. Never experienced a problem. Yesterday when I pluged the monitor it didn't recognized it. And the laptop's own screen was suppose to be HD resolution but it became 3200x1800 and it's not allowing you to change it. Tried to update the related drivers but they are already the latest. I'll be glad if someone can advise what to do..

Not even sure if anyone can help with this, and more than likely my flat screen monitor is a goner. What happened is it just simply stopped working. No power surge, no falling off my desk. Just kaput. The only thing that happens is that by the button, the green light that turns on when the monitor is on, flashes in 7 second incriments, which tells me its getting power. There is no power adapter, just a regular cable, the exact same as what plugs into a computer tower. So is there some kind of trick I'm missing to get it working again?

I have a PC (Windows xp) that I bought in around 2003 - 04 not sure which but I think it was 2003 and it had the old big box style monitor. The monitor stopped working this morning and I went and got a new one. The flat screen LED ones.

It keeps telling me the required screen resolution is 1600 x 900 but I cant go up that high. Ive adjusted every combination possible and end up with either too small so that the writing on the screen is all spidery, or it's clearer font but the window is too big for the screen. I suspect it's the old PC. Is this the problem, and if so, is there any way I can fix this without buying a new Harddrive.

LCDs have native fixed resolutions - 1024x768 for a 15" which is way off DOS resolution. Image on these is awful. I agree with you on Wordstar but it's 15 years since I last used it. Still cold and miserable here!

I am using two crt monitors off an ATI card using extended desktop etc. Will I be abe to run a LCD monitor in tandem with a CTR i.e replacing a CRT, please

Answer:CRT and LCD flat screen monitor

Yes, but unless the card allows for independent resolution and refresh rates, the CRT may not give off its best.Assuming a 17" TFT panel, the normal resolution/refresh would be 1280x1024 at 60Hz if this carries over to the CRT then you would most likely experience flickering on the screen. If you set a higher resolution/refresh for the CRT then the TFT display would deteriorate as it moves away from its native resolution.

I am thinking of replacing my 19" CTX 915FT CRT Monitor for a Flat screen? Currently have an Athlon 2400+512+120HDD. What should I look for and any compatability problems? Answer:Best Flat Screen Monitor

Do you mean a flat screen TFT or a flat screen CRT.If TFT a 15" is equal to a 17" CRT so one assumes a 17" TFT would be equal to a 19" CRT.There shouldn't be any compatibility problems (I don't know of any monitor that uses USB though). I want to use DVI input but am not sure if it is of any value; the main use would be for photo editing.has anyone any experience.Michel

Answer:From CRT monitor to TFT Flat screen

Can't recommend a particular TFT model as I don't use one, but you'll need to be careful with your choice for this application. CRT still has the edge for overall picture quality and colour accuracy, particularly when photo editing, so you'll need a very good TFT to avoid disappointment.Hopefully others who are pleased with their TFT choice will give some model recommendations.

I have just purchased a new 17" flat screen monitor from PC world today. Not a make I recognise but they have sold several £309 not cheapest, not most expensive. Chameleon-I on the box.
When I have set it up, there are 3 lit spots on the monitor, one white one just above centre - not quite eye level and two a white and a pink about 1" below the top of the screen.
Question: Is this acceptable - I assume these are lit or dead pixels but should I contact PC world and demand/request an exchange. Would another one be any better.
Probably as I go along I would get used to them being there but I would like your advise and to whether it is acceptable.
Thank you.

Answer:flat screen monitor

I would certainly call to see if an exchange is possible. It really depends on the retailer and the manufacturer. They all seem to have different policies regarding dead pixels on new monitors.

Last year, I ordered and installed a Lenovo 19" Flat-Panel monitor (and driver) for my T-61p ThinkPad.  Recently, as a contractor working on an IBM project, I was provided with an R61 ThinkPad and HP 1740 monitor.  The monitor driver that came with the R61 allows me to extend my desktop displays across the R61 screen plus the monitor screen as one contiguous desktop spread across the 2 screens.  The driver that came with my Lenovo 19" monitor only gives me the option of duplicating my T61 desktop screen on my external monitor.  Can I extract/copy the driver from the R61 and install it on the T61?  Or download a free version of the "extended desktop" driver from Lenovo, IBM, or somewhere else?  I've searched the Lenovo site but found no references to driver downloads.

Answer:New Tft flat screen monitor problems

Have you set the resolution of the monitor correct? usually 1024x768 for 17" TFT, also check your graphic card's display refresh rate. Set this to 60hz to start with, some will go to 75hz. Don't worry about the low setting, TFT's don't need the high refresh like CRT displays do. j.

An LCD screen is by far kinder to the eyes. The prices of them have dropped making them a a good buy.. Shop around for the best deal. My suggestion would be to go for a branded make like LG where there is a good solid warranty. Have a look in PCA Monitor reviews..

I am looking for a 17" monitor. Can anyone please explain what all the settings mean and what to look for in a flat screen monitor. I understand that it needs a high refresh rate for moving pictures, but what rate? What contrast ratio etc. should I be looking for? It's not the sort of thing you buy every day and I'd like to get it right. Incidentally, I purchased a 19" top of the range CTX CRT monitor approx. two and a half years ago (which had a great review in PC Advisor), but I'm now on my 6th or 7th monitor after they have all failed!

I looking in to buying a new LCD monitor for my PC to replace my rather large and old CRT monitor.I'm thinking of getting a 17" monitor but know very little about what I should be looking for. I'm not looking for a top spec monitor just something average or slightly above average. Can anyone give any pointers on what specifically I should be looking for?For example what is a good: - Resolution- Brightness- Contrast- Response Time- Colours?I'm on a budget of about £150.00 (may be willing to raise a little more). Can anyone recommend a particular model?I look forward to your responses.Thanks.

this morning i was on my desktop working fine before we had a power cut in our flat which shut off all the eletric socket points. My pc was switched off immediately.

I managed to switch on the main power suppy in our flat. then electricity was back on again. switched on the pc, running okay, i could even hear the windows starting up from my speaker. but my monitor (Dell 1800 FP, 19 inch flat screen, 5 years old) went completly black out. tried to switch on the indicator light, it wouldn't turn on (normally it's green when on). tried other buttons (brightness etc), still no light. It's as if it's been switched off.

spoken to a few friends who suggested me to see whether the fuse's been blown. tested fuse on a reader, absolutely fine. tested the power cable on other applicance and it's working fine.

Also tried to disconnect monitor from pc leaving only the power cable connected to monitor, still the same - does this mean that it's not the power suppy, but the monitor itself? Is the problem repairable?

I'm aware that during the last couple of weeks the monitor screen blinked once in a while (say twice during the day, just randomly but very subtle)....

help..

Answer:flat screen monitor black out! HELP

The LCD monitor itself has a power supply (or 2) built in to handle the lighting of the screen. Sometimes the power supply and/or fuses are fine, but the capacitors are blown or leaking.

I would take apart the monitor and take a look around.

Monitor is a Samsung SynchMaster193v.Graphics card is ATI Radeon 9550.Computer Packard Bell iExtreme 3.20GHZXP Media Centre Edition. Memory 1GBProblem is bold flashing Vertical stripes right across the screen. Each flash conjures up a new barcode like flash of coloured stripes. The screen then freezes. Not the computer just the screen. The image then is black and white and shows the last page I was on but reduced to a 2 inch horizontal strip. This strip is repeated 5 times top to bottom of screen. Monitor was only 8 months old so it was replaced with new one. Same spec. New monitor does the same and it is literally always one hour after starting the computer from cold. Whether I am gaming or typing a letter or just on the net, it makes no exception. I tried an old Compaq V55 monitor and all works fine. Even gaming. I have checked refresh rate, resolution, etc and nothing makes any difference. When I load Serious Sam(FPS Game) it tells me my Video card has been changed and to accept the automatic configuration mode. I do, the game plays OK for one hour and then The flashing starts. I have restored my PC to factory condition and according to every test I have done everything is working OK and everthing is enabled.I have bought a new monitor cable and have put the monitor on a seperate socket, with and without a surge protector. I have removed Mobile and speakers from the room in case of magnetic interference and the inside of my PC is clean. Fans are working. I have pressed the... Read more

Answer:Flat screen monitor problem

How old is the faulty monitor? It sounds like it's new, so I'd suggest taking it back for a refund instead of swapping it for one the same. If this is the 2nd Samsung SynchMaster193v monitor you've had that's had this fault, there could be a problem with that range of monitors. It's best to try a completely different make and model with it.

Hi,
I have a Dell flat screen monitor and of late the screen appears to have "faded". If I view from directly in front, the images appear faint and details cannot be seen clearly: the "enter information" boxes for banking sites for example.
However, if I lean to the side and view at an angle of perhaps 30 degrees, then the screen looks fine and the type-in boxes appear clearly.
This seems contrary to what would be expected on a TV screen with a narrow viewing angle.
Can anything be done?
Cheers

Answer:Faded flat screen monitor

If you are able to try another monitor then that is the first thing I would do as this would rule out a possible Graphics card failure.
If the results are the same then it may be time to look at your Graphics card - this could be failing.

Check that your video drivers are all correctly installed and that the cable is plugged into the system fully. Also check to ensure you are not trying to run a higher resolution then that of what is supported by the monitor.

Have been using a VUESCAPE flat screen monitor about two years with no problems.
This week the monitor went black.
If I turn it off, then back on I get a clear & crisp picture of my desktop. This only lasts less than two seconds and the screen goes black again. I have repeated this cycle many times to no avail, problem persists.
I have tried the following;
replaced power cord --- same results.
replaced the vga cable --- same results.
connected a different monitor --- works with no problems.

Is there somthing missing that I can do ?

If I open the case on the monitor what should I look for ?

Unit is out of warranty so I did not get much tech support.

Any advice you give me will be appreciated.

Hi,

I've got a Dell 15" flat screen monitor that I purchased in 2003 with an intermittent white screen problem that has now become a permanent condition. I am using my laptop to post this thread because I can't use my PC now. Every time now that I turn on the PC, the screen is white and I have to press and hold the start button to shut it down.

I have read other threads on this forum for this same problem and it seems it could be either the monitor or possibly a graphics card. The PC ran perfectly during the times the monitor was working in between white screen episodes. Suggestions were to try to hook up the monitor to another system which I don't have or connect another monitor to my computer, which I also don't have.

What are the chances that it is simply the monitor? I'd hate to purchase a new monitor when the problem lies elsewhere, like the PC.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm thinking about replacing my Viewsonic CRT with a widescreen flat panel. Most 19 inch screens now seem to be 16:9 aspect ratio with a resolution of 1280 x 1024. However, I note some give a resolution of 1440 x 900 for a 19inch and 1680 x 1050 for a particular 20inch at 16:10.On my present CRT I've discovered that the maximum resolution available is 1280 x 1024 so does this mean that I'll have to buy a flat screen with this particular resolution, otherwise I'll get a distorted picture?

Hi,

My TFT monitor has failed.
It's giving little flashes on the screen, rather like a strip-light thats trying to start.
Anybody have any idea what could be wrong?

Im wondering if the light inside could be a bit like a strip light.
Maybe it needs a new lamp.

But ive never seen this problem before.
Anybody seen this before on a TFT monitor?

I have a Gateway 17" Flat Screen Monitor that I bought just over a year ago, so the warranty isn't any good anymore. It just stopped working, but it's not like any monitor failure I've ever seen before -- the screen went completely white, with the exception of a couple of horizontal bands of dark colors (blue) that are just one or two pixels high.

At first I though my video card may have failed, but I hooked up another flat screen monitor that I borrowed from work (used the same cables as the other monitor, so it's not the cables) and it works fine.

Any ideas what may have failed and whether it is economically repairable?

Thanks
Matt

Answer:Flat Screen Monitor Failure?

I'd guess you're out of luck. The LCD appears to have had a catastrophic failure. It could be the control circuitry, but either would be more than the current price of a 17" LCD to repair.

When I bought my refurb HP running Windows XP Home, I thought I could use the monitor from my old system (Dell Dimension XPST running Windows 98se). The old monitor is an analog flat-panel and it has two cables coming out of the back. One connection fits into the CPU's video port. I'm nor sure where the other cable and connector goes. It doesn't fit into any port on the CPU. It has a group of pins on the left and a group of pins on the right of the connector if you turn it over and look inside the connector. However, on boot-up, I get a message that the computer doesn't recognize the monitor, but if I turn off the monitor and turn it on again, it will display my desktop, but not the systray icons. Do I need a special driver for the monitor? What else could be the problem? Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

I just bought a second hand Philips 170C flatscreen monitor off eBay.

My previous 15" NEC MultiSync LCD 1560NX works fine. So no issues with graphics card or pc.

I have tried both the proper display driver and the default plug and play - no difference to the problem.

Problem - When I put up a white screen there is a pink cast over the screen which is more evident towards the edges and stronger at the top left.

This particularly effects light greys on the screen, but all clours seen affected.

I've played around with the colours but because the problem is not even over the screen - I can't fix it.

Could this be down to a backlighting fault?

Any help from you tech wizards would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

David (havendel)

Answer:Flat Screen Monitor Display Problem

More to the point is that the LCD element took a strong hit somewhere and is out of alignment - ya can't bounce these things!

The backlight is simply a white flourecent bulb, and won't cause color missplacement, unless its what's loose and is pressing the LCD element somehow.

How was it packed when it arrived? There's a reason why the manufacturer inserts these screens in a foam sleeve when shipping, and this is it.

I was given a flat screen monitor and it just wont stay on, keeps flickering on and off..I am a complete computer novice...help please, any advice welcome.

Answer:Flat screen monitor wont work on my PC

First, welcome to MajorGeeks! :major
Second, is it the picture that flickers on and off? Or the power flickering on and off? If it's just the picture (meaning the screen goes black, but the power light stays on), then it could be the refresh rate is set too high. Most LCD's can't handle high refresh rates. So, boot up in Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key repeatedly when the PC is turned on; start pressing it right after the PC logo screen goes away. You should get a Windows Boot Options menu. Using the arrow up and down keys, select Safe Mode. When the PC loads to the desktop, the colors should be kind of strange and different; it's normal for safe mode. If the desktop stays up and picture doesn't go out, then we know the screen is OK, and that the problem is either the refresh rate or the resolution, or the driver. Right click My Computer, select Properties, click Hardware, click Device Manager. Look for Display Adapters in the list and click the little plus sign next to it. Write down what it says. It should say something like "NVidia Geforce FX5200" or maybe "Intel 82810 Graphic Controller" or something similar. Anyway, write it down, then right click on it and select Uninstall. It'll ask "Are you sure?" and you'll say "Yes". Restart the PC. With any luck, Windows will start up and reload the video driver for you. If it doesn't you'll need to go online to download the driver for the device... Read more

I have an old laptop that survived a flood... Barely. thr processor is toast, but the video subsystem and most of the mobo is good.
I want to be able to rewire the flat panel to accept a signal from a standard vga card. The dead laptop is a omnibook 4100. Has anybody played with this kind of thing before? It should be possible, YES? i can send pics of the parts to anyone willing to help. Thanks!

Answer:LAPTOP screen as flat panel monitor

Hmm..from the laptops I've taken apart the screen is usually connected to the motherboard by a thin ribbon.

I assume you would have to somehow connect the leads from the ribbon to a normal monitor cable and then rig up a way to get power to the monitor.

Worth a try I guess if it's all junk anyway..

Good luck.

I have a flat screen monitor and my manual lists the do not's on cleaning but not the do's!!!

What is the best way to clean flat screen monitors????

Sorry for posting such a basic question, but we are talking about a couple of hundred pounds worth of kit))))

Answer:Solved: Flat screen monitor cleaning

I usually use a semi-damp cloth (not dripping wet! - squeeze all the water out) to wipe the whole thing clean once a week.
Just plain water..no soap, cleaning fluids, etc.

The screen is blank for a very long period after start-up and it also goes blank if the PC is idle for long period.

The PC is also getting slow again. I've done the auto-run and check off programs and turned some progrmas to manual from auto but it has not helped. And I have degragged and do disk cleanups daily.

Thanks

I have an Iiyama ProLite E1700S flat screen monitor - recently, the blue Contrast/Brightness dialogue box has started to appear (initially on/off, now permanently on) for no reason - have tried everything I can think of to "reset" the screen, but suspect it's gone faulty - any ideas? - worth repairing? - or just ditch it?

Well, I'm using a flat-screen (not flat panel, so its CRT, I believe), Compaq FS7600 and simply put, it just flickers occasionally with a noise. This is kind of annoying...anyone know what to do?

I unplugged all its wires and it still does the flickering.

Answer:Solved: Flat-screen monitor flickers

Internal monitor problem, either a component on its way out or a bad connection internally.

These can be all but impossible to find, and remeber that there is about 25,000 volts inside the monitor...
