Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD loud fan noise

Question: Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD loud fan noise

Hi, I got a problem with my laptop. The fan is making loud noise everytime I open a new window, a new tab, any setting window and so. I believe it is supposed to make this kind of noise when I'm stressing it with more programs running, not by simply open the files explorer... Any idea on what to do? (model is Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD)ThanksNstant

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Nstant, Most probably a program or App is running at the background cause fast spinning fan to cool down CPU temp. To figure it out, right click in your taskbar and from the opened menu click on task manager. -From top menu click on performance tab then click on resource monitor ==> from top menu click on CPU tab and look at to the Average CPU usage and see which App or Program is using a high percentage of your CPU capacity==> right click on it and end the process. .Regards, **If the issue has been resolved please, mark me as solution provided to help others find the solution easily and click the Kudos.**

I put my headphones in the jack today and heard a weird background noise. When I removed them, the computer speakers were making a loud buzzing noise as well.  The buzzing noise comes and goes and disappears if I mute the computer's volume.  I cannot hear any audio on my computer now (no music, videos, noise at start up/shut down, etc.). I have tried updating the sound drivers and restarting the computer several times, but to no avail.  I have also tried to get sound with and without external speakers attached, with and without headphones in, etc. and I can only occassionally get the loud buzzing noise which is coming directly from both of the speaker vents on the bottom of the computer.  Thoughts on a solution?

Hello All, I have bought a LENOVO IdeaPad 100-15IBD andd I have updated everything it is windows 10 and the Intel core i5 version. First booting up and shutting down went fine. Now when I try to shut it down now the screen turns black, but the power button keeps burning and every 5 seconds I hear two hard clicking noises and then it shuts down after 20 seconds. Can anybody help me and give me advice on how to stop it from making these noises? I already checked but there is nothing blocking my fan. Thank you in advance! Kind regards, Gary von Havel.

Answer:LENOVO Yoga 500-15IBD

Hi mariuszwol5, Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums. Based on what I've found out, seems like both models has same specs as you have mentioned. If I'm not mistaken, the difference here is that, the 80N60084PB has this FRU : 18201638, whereas, the 80N6006FPB does not. FRU : 18201638Description : LGD LP156WF4-SPL1 FHD AG S LED1 NB LCDCommodity Code :  LCD PANELS Also checking on the price of the part itself, based on ebay, it is around USD $99.00. Which as per google, 400 PLN = 98.21 USD.  Hope this helps!

Hi, I've tried looking for tech specs (I know the hardware specs) for the monitor so I can work out what pen/stylus would be best for the touch screen. However, I can not find this particular product (spec specific) on the website.  If anyone could help me out that would be great, Ideally I'd like something with pressure levels as I do digitally draw from time to time, and would be helpful whilst writing. But would settle for something that isn't due to owning a GFX tablet anyway. Also, I'm unsure if this ideapad is referred to as a 15, 500 or 8 due to not know where this terminology is based from (model name, model series ect) seems unclear, perhaps I'm just looking into it too much and it is just a 500. Thanks to anyone that spends time reading, and thanks in advance for advice. ~Kris

Hi! I purchased Yoga 900 (part number 90UE002VUS) - 16GB Memory with 512 GB SSD. I hear the fan running loud and continuously even after closing all the applications. Is this normal? I thought SSD's are supposed to be ultra quiet, but this unit has an i7 processor, so maybe it's the processor that's forcing the fan to stay on. However the only application that I've set to run in the background is Sophos Anti-Virus. But even with that app turned off, I hear the fan come on very frequently and stay on with a loud noise for extended periods of time.I wonder whether I have a defective unit and need to get it replaced. If others have experienced this problem and found a solution, I'd appreciate your advice. Thanks

I have a web-camera issue with my notebook. It doesn't work. It used to work once or twice. But then suddenly something went wrong. Neither works mic. When I opened my windows 10 "Camera" app it said "Can't find camera". I checked device manager for drivers issues and couldn't find anything about camera. So I added a knew device "Lenovo EasyCamera". My "Camera" app still doesn't work. So I tried to fix in with Lenovo Settings. But there is no any camera folder in it. Reinstalling still didn't fix it. Also I tried installing drivers with official Lenovo website. Still nothing.

Hi,
I recently upgraded my Lenovo Yoga 15-IBD to an SSD, with a complete reinstall of Windows. Everything was working great; boot times were quicker and the system was far more responsive. However, the computer randomly freezes now, without any warning. I have to do a hard reset. Reliability monitor gives no clues of what the problem might be. The SSD is brand new, and passed a 'long' test this morning.

I have no idea where to go next; I seems that there is one problem after another with this laptop!

Thanks for your help!

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD Freezes Randomly after SSD Upgrade

Hi soopg.

When it freezes is there anything being logged in the event viewer? (System / Application / Other)

Have you looked at your Storage drivers. Before attempting to update please ensure you have an Image you can fall back to if required. While investigating would also be a good idea to have data backed up. You said this was a clean install so you likely have that point covered.

If you don't have a tool you could check out Macrium Reflect. Free, reliable and tutorial with forum.

You may wish to check out the Driver Verify process.

This tutorial will guide you through the verification process, heed the warnings. Assuming it fails follow the posting instruction in the BSOD section of forum.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable in Windows 10

The tutorial states make a restore point. Seems to be a lot of people having issues using restore points hence have an Image.

My Yoga 500 ideapad totally loses it when I plug it into power. The CPU slows down imidiately and runs at 100% usage every time I make an action (opens Chrome takes like 30 seconds). In Speccy, I can see, that the CPU runs at a speed of approx. 500 Mhz (Core speed). If I unplug the laptop, the speed goes up to like 1,9 Ghz when I opens chrome (chrome opens instantly) and CPU usage maxes out at 40% or so. I can now close Chrome, plug in the laptop once again, and if I open chrome now,it maxes out at 500 Mhz speed with 100% CPU usage. I have just completely reinstalled windows (10, 64 bit) hoping that this would solve the problem. But it haven'tI have downloaded ALL the drivers and software possible from Lenovos own support page for my laptop, I have ran numerous tests from Lenovo, and other thirdparty applications, no one in which finds any problems. What should I do? I have done everything in my power to try and fix this problem. I have tried every possibly advanced power options, I have even changed the "when plugged in" power options to match the "on battery" ones, but without any change in performance. I cannot figure out, if this is a problem with my power supply? Or the CPU itself? And no tests suggests any problems...  Anyone able to help me out with troubleshooting? Recently this thing has begun setting off a high pitched loud noise.  It has passed Lonovo syestem tests, all drivers are updated.  It does not sound like some of the sound files I have heard on-line.  Mine is more high pitched and loud then those of the fan sound.  Muting the speakers does not always help but this sound appears to becoming from the speakers not like a rattline sound when something is moving inside.  Any ideas of how to determine what it is are appreciated.

Apparently I found another version of the bios which 2JCN27WW. I think this is the original bios for lenovo yoga 910. I have installed 27W and it seems really quite than 28W, 34W an 35W. When the computer wakes up from sleep or when I turn it on the fans dont turn and run fast. See if it helps you. Also the laptop doesnt get hot as much and stays running cooler and much quieter and the fans dont get loud at all vs 28W. Please test this bios version like you did the rest as it would be helpful to know. After two days of usage, I can honestly say the computer laptop has never been quiter and ran so smooth. Everything runs much smoother due to the fans being off and the only browser I use id google chrome and the fans are still off. https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/2jcn27ww.exe

Hi Gudvinus,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that you are getting loud clicking noise from the touchpad of your ThinkPad Yoga.

Check if the sound is mechanical from the device itself and not related to the speakers at all.  If it is mechanical, possibly something is loose under the touchpad.

I strongly recommend you to contact our technical support for assistance.

Hi, 2 months ago i bought a Yoga 3 Pro  i7 laptop and in the last 2 weeks it started making an unbearable constant noise which sounds like a chip fryer. it is clearly coming from the fan located on the upper right hand side of the unit. it simply does not stop running and its unbearable. given what i paid for this machine i am on the point of returning it.Can someone help with a fix for this issue? Lenovo i called tech support and no resolution was made thus far.

Answer:Extremely loud Fan noise on brand new Yoga 3 Pro Laptop - Please Resolve ASAP

Hello Pierre, welcome to the forums.

It does sound like a possible mechanical problem. If you bought the Yoga 3 Pro 2 months ago, then it should still be under warranty, so your best course of action would probably be to send it to a Lenovo Service Center and get it checked out under the warranty.

Answer:Lenovo U410 loud fan noise

I also have a Lenovo U410 and experienced the same problem with a noisy fan some time ago. For me, it appeared after I updated my system to Win 8.1 but with some delay. So, I'm not sure whether it is a BIOS / firmware problem or a problem with Lenovo's power manager software (new updated version is not working better concerning the noise). So, I found a solution of my own to regulate the fan speed manually. I'm using NotebookFanControl freeware by Stefan Hirschmann which is published here:https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=6c34bd33ac55ce36&id=6C34BD33AC55CE36%21390&authkey=!APNc-4e4i7-KxOw#c... With some testing and the software RWEverything, I got the parts of the EC which is responsible for fan speed + control. I created a config file for NotebookFanControl which should be able to control the fan speed now:Config Lenovo U410 Fan control The config file might also work for U310 and similar models, but not sure. Feedback? For me, it works great. You can optimize the fan speed values if you want. Enjoy

Answer:Lenovo Y50 creating loud noise

Basically there is only two moving parts in your computer.  The hard drive or the cooling fan.  With either device that noise is not normal and would indicate to me that the device is falling.  I would recommend you contact Lenovo Support for assistance in correcting the problem.

The noise started coming about a week ago. It wasn't that loud, but I would sometimes hear a vibrating sound coming from the fan of my Lenovo G555. Sometimes it would stop. But if I ever moved it, the vibrating noise would come back. But today, the noise got really loud and it wouldn't stop this time unless I shut it down or something. Why is this? Is there any solutions to get this fixed, too?

Answer:Lenovo G555 fan making loud noise

As you are experiencing loud noise from the system.

To diagnose, I would suggest you to please update update the Bios of  your system from the below mentioned web link.

I never had this problem before until recently I noticed that my fan was making this loud buzzing noise. It was bearable at first. I thought that the fan might be dusty inside because I haven't cleaned it ever since I bought it. Last week, I tried to open the laptop so I can check why it is making that loud noise. I saw that the fan was dirty. I tried cleaning it. When I turned on my laptop, it was still making that loud buzzing noise. So I just ignored it. After a week, It suddenly got louder. It didn't sound normal anymore. I tried restarting the laptop but it still makes that noise. Its annoying. I took a video so you can hear what my fan is making.  It just keeps doing like this even if my laptop is just on stanby, like I'm not doing anything with it. This is what it sounds like when I did the Dust Removal tool on Energy Management.   Since I kept using the Dust Removal tool.. Now its making this weird noise, like the fan is getting stuck on something. I don't know what to do anymore. Its been 2 years since I bought this laptop so I don't have anymore warranty and I never had problems with my laptop except for today. I have never dropped it so I don't know why this is happening to my laptop. Please help me.

Answer:Lenovo Y510P fan making really loud noise.

Hi there, Xbelleh -
Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

This video would leave me to believe that a piece of paper or other debris shifted inside and is now coming in contact with the fan blades.

When you use the dedusting cycle the debris is temporarily being blown out of the way of the blades.  What I would do is use a can of compressed air and blow out the fan assembly from both directions and see what is blown out.  Compress air is available at any office supply store, electronics store or big box discount store.  When using the compressed air use short bursts as an extended burst may damage the fan's bearings from over revving.

Also, when using the laptop take note of its position.  If the fan is quiet on a flat surface, but is noisy when sitting at an angle like on your lap.  That might be a good indication that the fan bearings are failing.

Worst case scenario is you need a fan replacement.  The fan is something that the owner can replace if you are comfortable working inside it.

As a do-it-yourself project it can be fixed in an afternoon. At this point I would try the compress air and we'll go from there.

Update us how it goes.

Its deafening. And definately coming directly from my hard-drive bay. Any thoughts? Please?

When I start up my laptop from cold, there's this ridiculously loud squealing, siren-like noise coming from the speakers that seems to slowly disappear right as I get to the log-in screen. It'll usually be gone after I've logged in. It's not a constant sound, but one that fluctuates. I know for a fact it comes from the speakers because I can shut off the sound with the mute button. So please do not ask me if it may be coming from a fan or HDD. I want to know what possible solutions I can try. I've had the laptop for a little more than a few years now and do game on it.

Answer:Lenovo y570 loud squealing noise from speakers on startup

You might have to take it to a repair technician.

If its not much bother, can you upload a video with the squealing sound?

I believe the sound is coming from the heatsink. Its right near the vents and its extremely loud when thecomputer is at loading temperatures. So mainly during boot up and when loading many programs. This has been like this since out of the box. Its should be such a small problem, whats the easiest and fastest way to get this fix? I have dealt with many hardware issues for cameras phones and computers, so if theres like a tuturial on opening this thing, it would be great. Thank you very much.

I have updated the Wifi Drivers and the Bios to no avail I have read several forum posts about this common problem on here but there seems to be no solution. Does anyone have a solution or a idea to try? Before I return.

Hi there,  My very new Lenovo Yoga 710 (15" IKB) laptop/two-in-one has been fantastic so far except in one regard. Whenever I play a game, the fan gets quite loud and the temperature shoots up. I'm not one hundred percent sure if this happened in the first few days but I have come to notice it far more recently. When playing a pretty standard game, such as World of Warcraft, the temp will shoot up to somewhere around 65 degrees celsius (sometimes up to 70) with the bottom getting quite hot, and the fans will become quite loud. Even a very low requirement game, like FIFA 15 (which is obviously 2 years old now), can cause the temp to reach about 60 degrees and the fans to get loud, and when downloading a driver from Nvidia I noticed that the temperature had again risen, this time to 52 degrees with the fans spinning loudly again. I had earlier had a display issue that I fixed by downloading display drivers from Lenovo's website. I'm not sure if there's any driver I could download to rectify this issue (I already updated BIOS from the download on Lenovo's website)?

Hi, I've had a lenovo yoga 900, i7 for about 7 weeks now, and just today the laptop which has always been silent stated making an unsual noise which sounded like scratching on the inside and random high pitched bouts of noise. This has now transformed into a constant high pitched sound, kind of similar to white noise, which does not stop until the computer is turned off. As soon as it turns on again it resumes. I have turned off/shut down all the programs on the computer and it does not stop the noise. The sound appears to be coming from the base corner of the computer on the left hand side near the headphone socket. It is also heating up.  It is incredibly annoying and disappointing since this is the second time I have had trouble with a lenovo yoga product and it's performance in the last year. I would appreciate it if someone could help stop the noise emanating from the device.  Thanks

Hi all, I bought this bad boy back in July and have been thoroughly enjoying my experience with it (save for the screen issue discussed in another thread). I was fine with it since it seems to have gone away on its own and I couldn't afford to be without the machine for as long as it would take for them to fix it. The last few days I've been noticing near-constant fan noise. It picks up when I'm on Chrome or running some statistical computing software (R and Stata), but even without these applications running there is a noticeable amount of fan noise. Has anyone else experienced this issue? What have you done to remedy this? Thanks!

Hi All - my laptop is approximately a year old and in relatively good condition. However, a few days ago a loud mechanical sound began coming from the right side of the laptop which I think must be coming from the fan but I'm really unsure. It sounds sort of like an engine running and is much louder than the typical sounds of the computer, and only goes away when tilting the computer 45 degrees to the left. Any ideas on how to fix this issue or am I done for?

Hello there. I've bought lenovo yoga 700 for just 4 months and it has fan noise problem recently. It sometimes has fan noise like running a huge apps, althought i just starting up it and open light apps like internet, and office. When it comes, the battery just can hold up to 2-3 hours. But, the other time with the same condition (openning the same apps), the fan noise literally too silent that i have to get my ear to the source to hear the noise. and it comes with the battery life much longer between 7-10 hours. Why it comes like that? Is that any settings that I have to set? or? Thank you.

To start, I have seen the thread about a high pitched noise issue with this device's fan, and I don't think my problem is the same one. I have an ongoing issue with my Yoga 3 (full specs below), where for most of the time that the fan is spinning, it makes a loud grinding noise as if there's something stuck in the fan or the blade is off balance. I've only had the laptop for six months and it wasn't a problem when I bought it - it's developed since. The fan still seems to cool the laptop properly, and I've had no warnings from the device, but it's audible in quieter rooms and definitely isn't normal. I've installed the BIOS update that was recommended for a similar fan issue, and I've used OneKey Optimiser to run the fan cleaning tool several times - nothing has changed so far. I'm not sure what to do next. Should I attempt to open the machine and clean the fan unit with compressed air/investigate further, or should I contact someone about a repair? Thanks Aaron

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 3 1470 Fan Grinding Noise

Hi aaroncawte ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As what you have already described , seems that you have done what is needed fro the fan noise issue.
Noting that the issue is mechanical in nature , please give tech support a call for the needed service .
No need to open the chassis for further steps not to invalidate the seal / warranty and have the tech run further check.

You can however run Lenovo Solution Center for the hardware test just to check on other parts that can also be affected and likewise temperature check at the moment of the noise for baseline data.

Hi,I have a problem from the first day I bought this computer, couple of months ago. When I plugged headphones to the headphones connection, I sound static and really annoying noise from them. Sometimes it stops, but whenever I play sound in the computer it always in the background. After a bit of researching I found that what cause this is the Nvidia drivers that installed, when I disable them, it stops. How can I fix this? I don't want to keep these drivers disabled since I need to use the Nvidia video graphic from time to time.(btw I tried to switch between Realtek drivers to windows generic drivers, It didn't work) Thanks in advance!

Answer:Lenovo thinkpad yoga 14 static noise from headphon...

Hi.
Welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of you Thinkpad? Are you using Windows 10?

I have a TP Y 14 (20DM008UUS) with one of those ThinkPad In-Ear Headphones (57Y4488) (and Windows 10 64bits) and I don't apreciate any static sound while hearing music or videos.

How are you disabling the Nvidia drivers, from Windows Device Manager? Disabling the NVidia display adapter worked for you to remove the noise sound?

I always try to keep the Thinkpad Yogas driver up to date. Do you want to give it a try updating the Nvidia and the Realtek drivers?

Let me know your model number and we will check the support page for the latest drivers.

Hi , i have this labtop , and it is really annoying , when FAN makes noise constantly. Temperature is normal between 40-50 Celzius degrees.  Everything is updated (bios, drivers etc) , and when i start the computer, it starts to make noise, and if i open some tabs in web browser , so noise just increases like i were playing BF4 with ultra details or something like that. Please help me,  is this  "normal" for this labtop (in that case i will return it back to shop) or it is just broken one or can i do something for solution.  Thank you for advice

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 2 13 Orange FAN makes noise

Hi, I bought this Laptop 2 days ago and this is indeed annoying! I had a 12 years old Acer and a new i7 Lenovo, and both are completly silent. Sometimes when the CPU is working, like compiling code, it could happen that the fan starts working, otherwise they are off. But the Yoga 2 13, the fan is working all the time? Why Lenovo?I assume that if there is no software solution for it, it might be the usage of wrong hardware or maybe the hardware architecture is wrong, why the fan is always on. @LenovoCome on, please fix it or tell us the reason!

I received my Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2gen (i7, OLED). Unfortunately the CPU usage is constantly around 30% (reaching up to 100%), the fan is on all the time and the battery is empty in 2 hours. The main reasons for the high CPU usage are the following three programmes:- Sophos web intelligence (which I have to have installed according to my employer)- WMI provider host (I tried deinstalling it, but then I can no longer access the network drives)- Synaptics TouchPad 64-bit EnhancementsAny ideas what I could do to solve the issue? Unfortunatly the maximum resolution that I see in the Windwos 10 display settings is 1366x768. Is this a software issue or the display is not FHD? This is not a question, but really a suggestion to all of you who are about to update your BIOS. Lenovo released a new BIOS version for Lenovo Yoga 720 15 inches (BIOS Update - 10 [64] - V.4MCN24WW. This update brought back fan noise and frequently operation like it was before the BIOS update (BIOS Update - 10 [64] - V.4CN23W).  So the 24th version of the update is running fans as loud as the 22nd version. No good. If you know how to fix this problem then please let me know. Please do not update your BIOS because it brings back loud fan noise. I am hoping the fan issue thing will be fixed. The reason I did not want to purchase Lenovo Yoga model because they have been notoriously known for fan noise. The problem that was fixed with the 23 version of the BIOS update seems to be back with the 24 version.

I bought the yoga 500-15IBD(w/i5 5200U;GT 940m and 8G of RAM) in summer of 2015. At first the notebook is doing fine. But at mid-late 2016 the notebook start acting strange, the CPU start lock the frequency at 0.44 Ghz while charging. I find out that the BD prochot is the reason and I disable it with throttlestop. Then when I start gaming for few minutes the laptop just shut down, because of overheating. So I try playing game with BD prochot on and with battery. And the gameplay become very laggy. Not like low fps, but just very laggy. I monitored the CPU and the CPU just get throttled massively frequently and the frequency just go up and down. Which never happen before, the laptop used to be at least playable with consistent (low) fps.  What should I do. Is some component damaged? Should I clean the fan (I checked the fan and it seems fine to me)? Should I charge the thermal paste?  ps I try to stress test both CPU and GPU, it's fine when doing test alone. But when testing both CPU and GPU the temp of CPU just go sky high (~100 C) and the GPU seems to be cool in terms of temperature(75 C)and than the laptop shut down. Even when testing GPU only while CPU is idle both temp got ~75 C. When doing only CPU test CPU temp ~88 C max and GPU stay at ~55 C. It seems the GPU is transfering heats to the CPU.

I bought a new Yoga 500 15IBD 2 Months ago and since a view weeks the Laptop had several power breakdowns while in battery mode. All of a sudden the Laptop turns black, all lights and the hdd turns off and I have to connect the power cord to get it started again - although the Battery certainly isn't empty according to the OS-Battery indicators AND often having the Laptop fully charged less than half an hour ago. (The Yoga runs for at least 3 hours if the bug does not appear). Now this is no driver issue, I have the problem while running Windows 10, Linux Mint and Backbox Linux. I suppose it's either a battery issue or a faulty architectual design. Since  I see a lot of similar power-off related messages accross the spectrum of lenovo devices, could someone finally publically explain the source of the problem so there is a chance to get rid of it ... especially in future products?

Answer:Yoga 500 - 15IBD - Bios update went wrong

What you can see there is a Boot menu. Your laptop can't boot from disk and display boot selection menu. Try to enter BIOS (can't say how to do it, as you didn't told which Yoga model do you have) and try to change boot settings from UEFI -> Legacy (or in other way) and/or disable Secure Boot. Check if after these changes your laptop will be able to boot.

Try to change the Smartphone, change the angle, position of the laptop and the phone, the transfer speed some time change but, extremly slow. This is hardware fault, should I take it to warranty? Hi everybody, when I unplug the charger on my yoga 500 the screen starts to flicker like a rave party, I have searched like crazy all over and have found no solution to the problem. Things already tested:-Unplugging and plugging battery cable.-Disabling Windows error reporting service and Problem reports and solutions-Trying to update intel drivers from driver section and intel site.-Trying to update, and disable realtek hd audio driver. Things to take in account:-When connected to a second monitor, the new one won't flicker.-Laptop has warranty voided because of ssd install. (problem still occurs on bios with and withouth an HDD/SSD) so it shouldn't be considered a Windows 10 problem.-After SSD install, windows update doesn't allow me to update anything. I believe it thinks I'm booting from external hard drive. Hey everyone, I've had this laptop for a few years now and I know this hasn't always been a problem. In other topics regarding this issue, it's recommended to update your BIOS and drivers and everything. I've already done that. I think it might have been some update that started this issue. My temperature readings are reasonable in GPU-z. For some reason my laptop just starts spinning the fan really loudly, even if the room is cold. I've never felt my laptop get really hot or anything. The noise is just really loud now and it's embarassing to take it out in public. It doesn't sound BROKEN, it just sounds like when you turn on an older desktop.  My warranty has expired and I've already looked inside at the fans - they didn't appear to be damaged or dusty. I cleaned them, even used the cleaning app and the problem didn't improve at all. So basically I don't know what to do. If it's not a hardware problem, what else might it be? If it is a hardware problem, I guess I should look into getting a new laptop? The thing is, I've googled around and it seems other people have had this issue too. I haven't been hard on my laptop or anything, it just stays on my desk. Thanks

Answer:Lenovo Y40-70 Fan way too loud, quiet sometimes and suddenly gets loud

Assuming that your fans are clean and both working and the vents are clear, then you may have to simply clean the old grease, and then reapply the thermal silicone grease between the heat sink and the CPU.    I have seen where over time on laptops the heat sink compound or pad dries out and loosens, and then does not transfer heat efficiently to the heat sink; thus causing the fans to work harder to keep the CPU cool.     If you do decide to replace the compound, use a good high quality one like Artic Silver etc., make sure to clean off the old crud completely, and then just apply a nice thin layer over the entire CPU......Too much is not better.... Good Luck.

Hi everybody, I would like some help!

I recently bought a new fan to help with cooling as the summer approaches. My new fan replaces my old chassis fan but is plugged in slightly differently as it is plugged into the 3 pin mother board connector (the old one was plugged into the molex and is now positioned as an intake fan at the front).

My problem is that since I've installed the new fan my computer is actually louder than before, Everest tells me that the revs for the new fan are 5114 rpm as I type this so it's clearly working too hard. I think it's working too hard because my processor fan is only idling by comparison at 1705 rpm. Which temperature does the chassis fan use to control it's speed and why has my CPU fan suddenly become lazy since I installed the new fan? Is there anything I can do to make the CPU fan work harder and take some of the burden off of the chassis fan?

Many thanks for any help!

Hi kostagiannis ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Have you tried installing Lenovo Easy Camera Driver - Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)  ?

If you already tried Microsoft built in drivers (let me pick option) , for unknown device you can get the hardware ID for specifis manufacturer Windows 7 32 bit recommended driver.
Usually 0.3M 30W EA(wisepower) Wisepower ZB-A022-ZY 0.3M NB Camera   or  0.3M 30W EA(Azurewave) AzureWave AM-VS078 0.3M NB Camera .

Hi guys. I have a Lenovo laptop. I tried to clean the fan from gpu and then I turned the laptop on, without the fan plugged, and my pc have died for some hours. After that, it was running hard, and I reinstalled the windows. That didn't helped. I installed the drivers and it didn't found my NVIDIA 920m gpu. I think it's from the motherboard. That means it have to be replaced? Thanks. Sorry for my bad english.

Hello Lenovo community.I have purchased a Lenovo Ideapad 100-15ibd with :- Intel Core i5 5200u 2.7 gHz- 4 GB RAM- nVidia 920mI have already upgraded from 4 to 8 GB of RAM ( which is the highest value supported by this processor ) and now i want to upgrade 2 more things. 1. Buy a SSD.2. Install an eGPU.I want to install GTX 1050 TI 4GB and 128 bit on this laptop but i was not sure if this will work as good as i was thinking.I want to know if the GTX 1050 TI 4GB 128 bit is supported by this laptop and if i can install it with that eGPU adapter which is placed in the Wi Fi place. Not thunderbolt. Should i do this upgrade? If i shouldn't upgrade to this graphic card, there is another model better for my laptop ? Thank you!

I was wondering if anyone has upgraded or swapped out their hdd for a solid state drive on the Ideapad 305 15IBD? My specific model number is 80NJ00F5UK, I have been able to find an mSata ssd drive which says its compatible with the 305 IBD, but not the exact model number above.  To be honest Im pretty happy with the performance of the 1TB hdd that i have but just want to confirm whether its possible or not to swap out for an ssd if I wanted to in the future.  The main reason would be to squeeze a bit more battery life, as its one area where the laptop is a bit weak. mSata SSDhttps://www.ipc-computer.eu/notebook-spareparts/lenovo/300-serie/ideapad-305-15ibd-80nj005j/hdd-12

I got a dell dimension c521 and I notice at random times it has a really loud fan noise. Sounds like an airplane is about to take off or something? It usually happens if im playen video games and what not. I was wondering if this a bad thing or if its normal, and if theres anything I can do to prevent it from getting so loud? Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Answer:Really loud fan noise?

The fan runs at full to extract the heat when playing. About the only thing that you can do is to open it up and clean out any dust that you can see.

Question: Fan Noise too loud

Hello. Any suggestions on how I can easily cut down on my fan noise? It sounds like there is a lawn mower in here. Please tell me I can just buy a new fan for my processor... or maybe it's the PSU that's so loud. Thanks!

Answer:Fan Noise too loud

Google SpeedFan.

It allows you to vary the speed of your internal fans. Mess around with it til you get a stable, low temperature and desired noise output.

Or, you could just buy new fans.

Question: loud noise

I have a loud noise on PC or speakers after its been on a while and it comes on for short time every few minutes.. Its a noise that is hard to describe. Grand daughter says its a space sound, what ever that is.Its odd as when playing music its fine just comes on after pc has been on a bit. Also can't tell if its pc or speakers. Just got new monitor as mine worn out and was hoping it would go but hasn't, it started 3 weeks ago. I turn speakers right down to get away from it.

Answer:loud noise

Is it a beeping sound? If so, can you count the beeps and does the sound repeat itself or is it just now and then.

Question: A Very Loud Noise

I was working in the computer area one night. Of four computers, I was using two, one had been shut down for the night, and the last had been left on, but was unused.Suddenly the room was filled with a very loud noise. We are talking quite loud, almost like a fire alarm - uncomfortably loud to the ears. My first thought was an alarm on the UPS. I checked it, and it was fine. Then I thought maybe a fan bearing gone bad on one of the computers. I shut down the one not being used. Nothing. So then in spite of losing work, I felt it urgent enough to immediately shut down the two computers I was using. Nothing. So my next thought was fans in the room. Shut them down - nothing. Then I thought maybe the lights. Nothing. So my final thing was to unplug the computer that was already shut off - Bingo! What a surprise. I wasn't sure if the noise was from the computer or from the surge protector it was plugged into, so I ran an extension cord across the room. It ran fine about 3 days and then the noise came again, not quite as loud this time, but still loud.So I am thinking power supply or motherboard. The frequency and texture of the sound is the same as the squeal you get from the computer when you disconnect the power and the electricity drains from the system, except that that sound is mildly soft, but it gives you an idea of the nature of the sound. So I'm thinking maybe the motherboard is alarming me about something, but why so loud? And why continuous and won't go of... Read more

Hi,

I recently upgraded the ram in my pc from 1.5gb to 2.5gb as it seemed to be getting pretty slow. I was expecting a pretty big jump in performance but it doesn't seem to have happened.

The pc can sometimes be faster than it was and sometimes it really drags. There is also an intermittent loud noise which i believe is coming from the fan and when this happens the pc is slow.

I took out the fan and cleaned all the dust from it but this noise still starts every couple of minutes and the pc becomes slow.

Any ideas?

Answer:Loud Noise from PC. Don't think it is the HDD

Two things to consider...
The amount of memory doesn't have much to do with speed unless some process can specifically use that extra memory. You can to more things well, but not necessarily more rapidly.

You system will utilize all memory at the speed of the slowest module. If you have some memory that is value ram or other inexpensive ram, the timings could be significantly different than the best brands and models.

Your system only uses what memory it needs, not what you want it to use. As long as the RAM meets the requirements of the motherboard, it will not protest.

If you want some programs to run at optimum performance levels, all memory must be identical. It is wise to buy matched sets of RAM from the same manufacturer at the same time to get the ultimate performance. Top memory is already sold in matched sets in the same plastic wrap. Otherwise, you have to look at the timings and other information posted on the package or the label.

I recently started getting hearing a loud "buzzing" noise when I started my computer or it had to load certain larger programs. I opened up the computer to find which fan the noise was coming from and found no noise. The noise had stopped until just yesterday. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions.

Answer:100 15iBD - blank screen after lenovo logo

Hi Daisuke ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you have the machine number ? Check on the machine number from the sticker or check it from here ,just keep your serial number confidential.

Best way to proceed is to isolate the issue . You can shutdown the PC and unplug the ac adapter , remove the battery (if removable) and press and hold down the power button for 12 seconds to drain remaining power .
Use the Novo button instead to turn on where you expect to see the Novo Menu . Choose BIOS set up and verify if the harddrive is detected . You can F9 to reload defaults and F10 to save and exit.

If the BIOS screen and tabs are working then we are safe to conclude that on the machine level , the laptop is working so that would now lead us to Boot issue either bad windows start up or bad display driver.

Try to connect it to any available external monitor  ( press any FN keys to toggle if needed ex. FN + F10 ).
Any display on the external?  How is pressing ctrl alt del , any changes ? Tap on caps/ num lock ,see if any indicator led going on off too.

Update us how it goes.

Regards
