Yoga 2 Pro Issue with Headphone jack and USB 3.0 external hdd not recognized

Question: Yoga 2 Pro Issue with Headphone jack and USB 3.0 external hdd not recognized

Just picked up my Yoga 2 Pro from best buy. Updated all drivers and BIOS, and the yellow screen issue does seem to be fixed. Thank you Lenovo! Now, sometimes when I plug my headphones in, no sound will play on the headphones. Realtek recognizes that I plugged in headphones, but no sound will play through them. When I restart the computer it works fine. Also, I have a USB 3.0 external HDD. I use this harddrive without any issues on my Lenovo Y400 using the USB 3.0 port. The external HDD is a Rosewill RX-358 V2 Silver. There's no drivers or anything from the manufacturer and I did not need to install any drivers on my Y400. After plugging it into the USB 3.0 port of the Yoga 2 Pro, the computer seems to recognize it, but doesn't install any drivers and under My PC (My Computer) an external drive does show up, but does not allow me to open or access it. After a few more tries the drive icon doesn't even show up nor does the drive spool up when I plug it in. However, plugging the external hdd into the USB 2.0 port works just fine. Windows instantly recognized the drive. I have tried USB 2.0 flash drives with the USB 3.0 port so as far as I can tell the port is not broken. Please help

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My speakers on my Yoga 2 Pro work fine.  Today, I plugged in headphones and only sound came through the right ear side.  I checked the headphones themselves with my phone and they worked fine.  I got earbuds out to test them.  The earbuds had sound only coming out on the left side.  Again, tested the earbuds with my phone and they worked fine.  It is the headphone jack in the Yoga Pro for sure.  Suggestions?

Alright, so here's the problem. I just recently got this computer and plugged it into the VGA port and the sound wouldn't work. I plugged Logitech External Speakers into it and the computer didn't even acknowledge that it was there. I plugged in Headphones to see if those worked and they didn't aswell. I asked the guy who I got the computer from and he said that it (sound) would work when plugged in using HDMI. So I did that and the sound does work, but only through the TV speakers. It still doesn't acknowledge the speakers or the headphone s when plugged in. So I wen t and grabbed some other speakers I had and tried those and It still didn't recognize the speaker. My question is: How Do I Get My Computer To Recognize My Speakers? Any help would be much appreiciated.

A week or so ago my headphone jack stopped working. Whenever I plug something in Beats does not turn on automatically like it should. I've had it for 6 months and have loved it so far and have been super careful. Of course it has fallen a few times but never from higher than waist high. Are the 3.5 mm jack usually that easily disrupted?

Answer:headphone jack not recognized

Have you tried a different set of headphones?
Have you tried inserting and removing the headphones from the jack repeatedly? Sometimes that will help.

I've had my chromebook for about a year, no problems. As of this weekend, when I plugged some earbud headphones into the laptop while playing a video. The video continued playback through the speakers, and nothing comes out of the headphones. The headphones continue to work fine with other devices. I got my bluetooth headset working with the chromebook as usual. However, I later made a call through Google Hangouts, and the call recipient couldn't make out much of what I was saying, too quiet, distorted. This has never happened before, and a call worked fine with the same headset, different device. Because this happened abruptly, and because of the concurrent issue with the mircophone over bluetooth, I suspect an update has changed the way the audio system is managed. I tried a hard reboot thus far.

Hello, I have a Compaq Presario CQ50 Notebook with Windows Vista, no add-ons. All sound comes from the notebook speakers, and nothing changes when I plug in headphones (I've tried multiple headphones, no dice). When I go to Playback Devices in the Sound Control Panel, the headphones aren't even recognized. Is the jack broken? Is it something I can fix by myself? Thank you in advance.

Answer:Headphone jack not working, not recognized

Go to Sound (right click on the speaker next to the clock) > Recording Button > right click on a blank space in that little window > check "Show disabled devices" > turn the mic on.

So I've had a Lenovo Yoga 710-151KB for about half a year now and it's been pretty good so far, at least compared to my previous laptop. However, its headphone jack suddenly stopped working today. It was working fine before I went to bed last night, and I haven't downloaded anything or even visited any websites other than youtube between then and now. All of my drivers are updated and the headphones work fine with my phone. Also, the laptop seems to recognize when they're plugged in (sound stops coming out of the speakers), but it doesn't recognize what they are (ie the Sound application still lists them as "disconnected"). I tried plugging in my roommate's headphones too and the same thing happened. What should I do?

This is an odd one...

I have a Yoga 2 Pro, which has served me very well for over a year now.

But very recently I have encountered a problem now.

The computer thinks headphones are plugged in all the time now! No sound will come out of the speakers, despite all the windows 10 software telling me that there is no problem, and that the speakers are the only outlet. Even the sound controls recognises sound (the equaliser rise and fall).

Sound works perfectly when the headphones are plugged in. And even more recently, the notification that goes 'Information: you have just plugged/unplugged a device into the audio jack' is now alternating andspamming my laptop every once in a while, with sound coming in, and then turning off, with nothing in the jack!
Any advice would be welcomed, as I have trawled the internet to find a solution, yet have come up empty handed.

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro - Headphone Jack Problem!

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

I'm not an owner of your model, but one thought came to mind.  Possibly the contacts inside the headphone port are sticking thus the machine thinks the headphones are always inserted.  Try repeatedly inserting and removing the headphone plug to see if the problem will clear.

Hello! The headphone jack on my yoga worked yesterday, but not today.  When I plug headphones into the jack, the audio continues to play out of my yoga's internal speakers.  I did nothing to change the software of the computer since then, and the computer has not suffered any hardware damage like a drop, but it has been cold recently had I commute by bike with the laptop in my backback, so it will be exposed to 20 degree temperatures (F) for 15 mintues at a time. I updated the BIOS and audio drivers to no avail.  Is there a quick fix to this or do I need to send it in for repair? Thanks!

So whenever I plug in my headphones to my laptop while I'm watching a video a notification comes up telling me that I just plugged in my headphones. It's useless information and I know how to turn it off but the real problem is that when that message comes up my sound goes away for a few seconds. Even when I turn off the notification there's still a sound delay and I don't hear a thing for a few seconds. Is there any way to fix this? It's also the 13 inch model.

Hi Guys, For the Yoga 2 Pro owners out there, how much static do you have in your headphone jack?  I am loving everything about this laptop except for some noticeable static at low volumes and some backlight bleeding at the bottom of the screen.  I have tried two different headsets, my Senheiser HD 280 Pros and my Etymotic earbuds. I am curious how everyone elses behaves.  If this is normal I can probably live with it.  If I am the only one, I may get it replaced.  Build date 11/06/2013, purchased from Lenovo's website. Thanks,Dan

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro Static/Noise in Headphone Jack

Just wanted to add a little bit more detail to this. I just experienced the problem where you plug in your headphones but the audio stops playing. When I plugged the headphones in, there is no noise in the line. Perfectly clean. When I mute and unmute from the keyboard, the audio starts playing again, along with the static.I have the default format set to 24 bits, 192000 Hz. The static noise is present in all options but at 24 bits, 44100 Hz I also get a slight whistle. This plus the mute/unmute fix leads me to believe this is a software issue. If it were a ground issue, I would expect it to always be present?

My headphone jack doesn't output to the right headphone when I plug it in all the way. If I ever so slightly pull out the headphone jack about an 1/8th of an inch to the next knob it will output to both left and right headphones but with a high pitched noise in the background. Should I submit my laptop for servicing? Is there a fix to this issue? I have tried multiple headphones (which I have tested on other devices, that work fine on them) and this issue still persists.

I have a Yoga 900 laptop. I have had it for less than a year and up to this point it has worked well. It no longer recognizes my headphones when I plug them into the headphone jack. When I have headphones plugged in, the sound still comes from the speakers. When I right click on the speaker icon and choose playback devices, it only have my speakers listed. I have used three different types of headphones, updated the drivers, and rebooted the computer numerous times. I have searched for hours online to figure out this problem, but have had no luck.

I guess after a upgrade the drivers changed because I do not see any longer the headphone jack in playback devices.Ive tested the headphones and Ive tested the computer with a linux live cd and the plug is working fine, just not in Windows 10Also, with the awful realtek drivers, the sound from the speakers is more distrorted then with default windows drivers. What ive tried so far:Downloaded the lates drivers from lenovo (realtek) - Not workingFiddled around in realted control panel applet - No changeDeleted the drivers, restarted, win 10 downloaded realtek drivers automatically - Not workingChanged settings so windows does not download drivers automatically and used windows drivers - Not working I know there is an extensive thread about yoga 2 pro with simular issue, but that is not the same model and what worked there has not worked for me.

Hello I recently got a Lenovo Yoga 211 Laptop/Tablet and am having problems with getting the laptop to detect the headphones/mic Once I plug the headphones (with built in mic) into the laptop, I can hear just fine. However, the mic fails to work. I was hoping to set the laptop to use the headphones for playback, and internal microphone for recording. However, I cannot find the headphones or the external microphone in the sound manager to do this. And once I plug in the headphones, the internal mic stops working entirely. I have a Thinkpad laptop that had this problem and I managed to use the Realtek Audio Manager to solve the problem. On the Thinkpad, I have it so that I can use the internal microphone even with the headphones plugged in. Is there a way to do that for the Yoga series? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you for your time!-Em

Answer:thinkpad yoga 14 headphone jack high frequency sound

I do too! However I noticed, oddly enough, that the phenomenon goes away when I plug the thing into AC power. Also, when I first upgraded to W10, there were some major changes to the sound capabilites - I could watch a YouTube video comfortably at maybe 4 in W8.1 while I had to crank it up past 80 in W10. After updating to W10v1511 this issue has since been fixed, and the volume of this hissing has also decreased.I tried a good many things too. Reinstalling the sound drivers, and all that.

Have a good day.

Hi all, I noticed an issue with my Lenovo X1 Yoga 2nd that I didn't have with my older laptop. My monitor is connected through HDMI and has speakers. But sometimes I want to connect headphones to listen using them but the system doesn't switch to the laptop audio adapter automatically based on the trigger of inserting the headphone jack.It would be much more convinient if it did rather than needing to open Playback devices everytime to switch back and forth. My older laptop with Realtek adapter did that. I'm not sure if it's something that Windows did or the Audio driver did. Any ideas how can I get it to switch automatically?

hey redfisher80,

that setup should actually work, i would recommend the following,

- uninstall the current sound driver for your unit
- let windows install its generic driver.
- test the speakers again

also could you test those speakers on another device too ?

Loaded all software updates, followed all the instructions and still would not record from external mic. Finally found the problem. The imput jack on the laptop is a piece of junk and does not work. How I found this out was while plugging in the four pin connector I noticed the mic icon flash so I slowly removed the four pin connector and the external mic started to work. However as soon as I let go of the four pin connector it fell out and would not stay in the imput jack. All the way in would not work ,half way in works but wil not stay in place. So how do I get this repaired?  I now have a workaround for this.Got a USB mic and the software recognized it.However after doing some more web searches to solve the output (input) jack problem I found that this is not just a HP thing.Seems other manufactures such as Dell are just as bad. This does not excuse Hp of using a crappy part; probably just to save a few pennies.

Hi there @Harley5560,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions. I read your post on the Forum. From what I understand you are trying to use a Headset with a Microphone built in and you are not getting results from the microphone portion. I read that you updated your last post to say that you purchased a USB microphone and that is working for your flawlessly.  Here is a document I found called Resolving Headphones and Headset Problems (Windows 8).   If you were to look at your HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC and HP ENVY TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide, it says "Connects optional powered stereo speakers, headphones, earbuds, a headset, or a television audio cable. Also connects an optional headset microphone. This jack does not support optional microphone-only devices". NOTE: Be sure that the device cable has a 4- conductor connector that supports both audio-out (headphone) and audio-in (microphone). Did this reply resolve your issue or answer your question? If yes, then please share the good news! The laptop doesn't register headphones frequently- occasionally 'unplugs' randomly, or if they're moved/knocked a little. I've tried updating the audio drivers and using different headphones and that's not helped at all. I figure it's probably a hardware issue and I need to send it off to be fixed, but I'd rather avoid having to do that if I could.

I SOLVED this in my reply below!

Hi everyone,

I have updated my Compaq Presario V3030CA to Windows 7 Home Premium and only since then I have not been able to use my headphone jack for audio.

I have read many threads on this issue in this forum and elsewhere on the Internet, tried several of the solutions offered but to no avail...

As with many others, I do get sound through the laptop speakers. When I plug in my (perfectly working) pair of headphones, the sound on the speakers does not turn off and of course I am not getting anything in my headphones.

Here is what I see when I go to the Control Panel/Sound. In Playback, I get Speakers - High Definition Audio Device - Default Device. Clicking on its Properties I see the High Definition Audio Device driver is from Microsoft. I have tried to disable, uninstal, update this driver but to no avail. I have also tried to replace it with other drivers recommended in different forums (including from the Compaq website) but that also did not work.

Back in the Playback window, I see the Digital Audio (S/PDIF) icon with Ready state. There is no Headphones icon even when I right click and Show Disabled Devices.

In the Recording pane, the Line in icon shows a status of Not Plugged in with a red arrow pointing downwards.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Mike

Answer:Headphone jack issue in W7 ?!?

SOLVED!!!!!!!

I uninstalled the W7 audio drivers. I tried again to download the audio driver from Compaq (Select software and drivers Compaq Presario V3000 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)) but this time while I reinstalled that driver, I noticed that W7 was reinstalling its own drivers b/f the Compaq driver could be installed. So when the Compaq driver installation paused to ask me a question, I went back in Control Panel/Sound to again uninstall the W7 audio driver. I went back to the Compaq driver installation, let it finished and my headphones are now working!!!!!

Hello there,

The headphone jack on my laptop broke some time ago, so I had to buy a USB replacement jack. Under Windows XP this worked brilliantly, but since I've upgraded to Windows 7 (Home Premium, 32bit) I've been experiencing problems: namely, I have no control over the volume. Whether the volume is all the way up or just above zero, the sound is blaringly loud through the headphones. (I can still Mute the volume.) I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the jack via the Device Manager, but I haven't had any success. Help?
Thanks,

USB headsets' volumes are controlled by Windows via the drivers for said headset. IF the drivers are not installed or improperly installed, you may have a tough time doing anything with it.

Some headsets also have volume controls in-line on the cord. Is this the case for you?

What headset do you have?

Also check your device manager under Sound, Video, and Game Controllers. If your headset is actually listed there like it should be, it should not have any ! or ? symbols on it as well.

I own a Thinkpad Yoga 14 20DM and currently there is a high pitched noise through the headphone jack.  Whenever I listen to music or watch a movie, this noise comes on and is extremely annoying.  It only happens when I have headphones or speakers plugged into the laptop. I have sent in my laptop three times to the Repair depot.  The first time was for a touchscreen replacement, and the bottom plastic casing was cracking.  When I got it back, it had this annoying headphone jack issue. I have sent in the laptop twice after that and it still has not been fixed.  The system and audio board have been replaced.  I even sent in the headphones with it and they still couldn't figure it out. I do not know what to do now.  I'm pretty frustrated about the experience and probably won't buy a Lenovo product again.   Is there anything else I can do?

Hey, so as the title says my Yoga 2 has some problems. Whenever I open or close my yoga it makes a snap/crack/pop sound, seems to be from the hinge. Anyone have any idea if the warranty would cover this? I just got this like the last week of August, so this is really upsetting. Also the headphone jack doesn't work at all, hasn't since the first time I tried it. It doesn't recognize that it is there (I've tried the device manager or whatnot, it is enabled just does not work). When I play music with the headphones in, the sound comes out of the speaker so it is super not working, ha. Any one have a solution?

Like the title says, my external microphone doesn't work through the dock's microphone jack, a usb microphone jack, or the laptop's headphone jack. Answer:T430 external microphone won't work via headphone jack, usb adapter, or through dock

Take it in for checking. I suspect that the soundcards we're being given with this product are very low quality (based on many issues stemming around low or no audio sound).

Hello, I recently bought a Flex 2-14 with Windows 8.1 installed and upgraded it to Windows 10 (Education Version). I haven't tried the sound on the 8.1 system - directly upgraded to Windows 10.Symptoms:When I plug in headphones, the notebook doesn't recognize them. When I unmute/mute using the F1 keys sound comes through the headphone - terrible quality, though. When I change the volume using the F2/F3 keys that switches it back to the loud speakers and so on.It seems to me that the laptop doesn't recognize the headphones at all. When I look into the sound devices in the taskbar, there aren't any headphones listed.Failed attempts to solve the problem:Updating the drivers from the Lenovo website.Updating drivers from Realtek directly.Sleeping/waking the notebook.Turning off the multichannel option with the Realtek HD Audio-Manager.I think that's pretty much all I've tried so far. Most of the times the problem just stayed the same. Sometimes it wouldn't switch back to the speaker when pressing the F1/F2/F3 keys, but that is all that my attempts changed so far.I'm thankful for any hints!

Hey, I have a flex 14 ideaPad and up until recently everything's been running smoothly audio-wise (when headphones were and were not plugged in), except for randomly a couple of days ago when I plugged headphones into the jack and no sound came through either the headphones or the speakers, although the headphones were detected by the laptop. When I unplugged them sound would come through the speakers again. I tried again with a different set of headphones but the problem reoccurred which lead me to believe the problem is with the laptop, after searching for solutions online I decided to delete and then reinstall the audio drive (Realtech HD Audio Manager). This fixed the problem for a couple of days but now the same problem has returned. I am confused as to whether this is a hardware/software based problem as when I reinstalled the driver it did solve the problem so it couldn't really be hardware related. Would anyone know what the problem is? Should I just keep on deleting and reinstalling the driver? Again the headphones are detected by the laptop, they do not appear as their own playback device though (is this always the case?) Thanks, Tiernan

I have an HP Probook 450 G1. I'm running Windows 7 (64 bit). I have the latest audio drivers (Intel HD audio). I usually use a headset with microphone, but suddenly it doesnt work. This is the second time this has happened, now 2 days in a row. The FIRST time audio would play out of my system, but not my headphones while plugged in. This time, while plugged in, audio does not play in my headphones, or from my system's speakers. Last time repeatedly juggling the same options seemed to eventually work. But this time....it isn't.  Furthermore, no settings have changed. I do not know what is causing the problem, or what the solution is. What SHOULD happen is that sound should play from my onboard speakers, and sound be recorded from the onboard microphone. When I plug in using 3.5 jack) headphones or microphone those devices should take over. http://i.imgur.com/tT5a4VX.jpg

I'm guessing that it's probably just a compatibility issue... or just how it is, but I'm curious:

I updated my laptop from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro a while back. It started out as just a minor inconvenience, but it's getting to be very annoying. When I plug in my external speakers (via the headphone jack) or my headphones, Windows doesn't automatically switch the sound output to the headphone jack. I have to manually switch it ("Manage Audio Devices"). The same is true for the reverse, when I unplug my headphones.

Is there any way around this, or is it likely an issue with the compatibility of my sound card?

Please and thank you!

Answer:Headphone jack/on board speaker issue

Do you have the correct Windows 7 drivers for your Audio system? The XP drivers are not compatible and you need at a minimum Vista drivers as Vista and Windows 7 handle sound functions differently than XP.

On most newer "HD Audio" systems the jack is "auto sensing" and switches "logically". On many older PC systems that is a mechanical function with the jack.

Hi Guys, I got a brand new U160 today and love it, but there's a loud static hiss coming from my headphones when plugged into the headphone jack.  I'm sure it's not an issue with my headphones itself because there's no hiss with other laptops or ipods.  This hiss is present regardless of the volume level and is still there even when on mute. Can someone please help me out here?  Is it simply a matter of re-installing the drivers?  The default audio drivers are Realtek 6.0.1.6093 which is the latest. Thanks in advance.

Answer:ideapad U160 headphone jack static issue

I tried re-installing the drivers and also rolling back the drivers but nothing worked.  Does anyone own the U160 and have the same problem?

Hi all Been searching on the forum for solutions as I can see this can be an old issue but none of the solutions have worked for me so far. I got an Envy X2 11-g001tu (slate+keyboard dock) but the camera isn't working, I was using Windows 10 but downgrade to 8.1 to see if result were different. Drivers from HP support don't seem to resolve the issue (sp63677.exe driver pack for chipset, camera and graphics). I've also tried downgrading to Win 8.1 but didn't work. EVery time the camera is accessed I get the message: Connect a camera (none of the 2 cameras, front or back work). Have tried with driver updater software but nothing still. Also, the headphone jack in the keyboard dock doesn't work either (it used to work before the upgrade), only the jack in the slate itself works well. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Hi 1ajs,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

May I know the current version of Audio driver which you have installed in your system?

Check setting the BIOS to factory default & to proceed with this, boot the system into BIOS by tapping F1 key on Lenovo logo, press F9 key to set the BIOS to default & F10 to save and exit.

Best regards,

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to read this & hopefully help me resolve my issue. May the records state that I'm not the most experienced with computer hardware, but I'm interested in it and have been learning through my friends.
That aside, I recently got a Logitech G230 Stereo Gaming Headset. I've been plugging it into the audio/microphone jacks in the rear of my tower, and they've worked fine.
// Really great headset, by the way; very comfortable and I have no complaints about it as of yet.
Recently, upon cleaning out my tower, I found that there are audio/microphone jacks on the front panel. Who knew? I never really explored my computer tower so this was a neat find for me. I decided to see if my headset would work through them, and lo and behold, the feedback volume was significantly lower than it was in the rear jacks. To my dismay, I couldn't find out why this was, and Google ceased to give me the solution I desired.
Help is welcomed with open arms!

Answer:Front Panel Headphone Jack - Poor feedback issue

I'm not sure of what you are saying. Are you saying the sound volume in the headset is lower than it is plugging into the rear Green speaker jack?

There can be a sound level difference, depending on the impedance of the particular headset. The Green speaker jack on the rear is designed to feed a speaker system which will have a different impedance than headsets. Thus there can be a difference in the sound level.

Dell does not list the technical impedance specs for this model so I can't say for sure what the Speaker and Headphone jack impedances are.

I've searched the forum as best I could and didn't find this issue being addressed. So, sometimes I listen to music with the headphones or even after a Skype call, I leave the headphone jack plugged in. If I put the laptop to sleep and wake it back up, unplugging the headphones will not return my sound setting back to the integrated speakers; I can only hear any sound if I plug the headphones back. I tried logging off and on again: no change. I tried to disable and re-enable "Realtek High Definition Audio" in Device Manager: no change. Uninstalling and re-installing it wouldn't be a proper solution if it had to be done all the time. The only thing that returns it back to normal is turning it off and on again... typical I.T. solution. Was there a driver update to fix this? Speaking of driver updates, I assume I can't find any BIOS update or any driver updates for the ideaPad due to the Sandy Bridge recall?? UPDATE: Sorry... found the consumer support lenovo sub domain site which is different from the IBM one... argh..

I have a T500 - 2081CTO, and in the last week or less, the headphone jack has stopped working. There was a windows update recently so I'm assuming that's the culprit. I typically let it do it's auto-update thing without paying much attention, so I don't know what exactly changed or why it would kill the headphone jack. I've tried looking for Conextant drivers, but those don't seem to have changed since 2011. Win8 and the T500 has always been a bit flaky, but this at least has always worked. How can I test that it's the software and not a hardware issue? And if it is software related, what do I need to fix it?

Answer:Win8/T500 headphone jack stopped working. Conextant Audio Software issue?

Following the suggestion of my beloved brother, I stepped back through restore points and found one 2 weeks ago where sound still works. Since that time, I had installed a Java Dev Kit, SVN, redistributable C++, pando media booster, and Firefox. I'm leaning towards PMB being the culprit, but it's hard to say exactly. Windows critical updates (the first step back) didn't change anything.

Hello,

I just purchased a new notebook, and I have a bit of a problem. When I plug headphones into the side headphone jack, the sound quality is downright terrible. Very shortly I noticed that it didn't sound as good/decent as my older notebook.

The speakers seem to sound fine, well you know - as good as laptops can sound.

Right now I have two notebooks side by side:
a friends Samsung Series 3 (NP300E5C), with Windows 8 (upgraded from W7) / Microsoft High Definition audio
my Toshiba L50 Windows 8 / Realteck High Definition

I dont have my older notebook anymore, but I do remember it sounding better. Comparing this Toshiba to the Samsung (both sitting on the desk side-by-side), the Toshiba sounds a little better through the speakers, but there is no comparison with the headphone - The Samsung is pretty decent while the Toshiba makes me cry.

Now granted, I'm not expecting a symphony, but if I cant solve this I'm going to have to sell the Toshiba.

I've tried uninstalling Realtek, but I couldn't get the sound to work.
Re-installing Realtek solved nothing

One thing I noticed, there is no 'headphone' icon in the device manager (Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Sound / or simply right click the audio icon in the taskbar). Are the headphones not high definition or something?

Welcome in lenovo community

Method A:
1.  Go to the Control Panel by right click the bottom left corner in "Desktop" mode.
2.  Search for "Realtek HD Audio Manager".
3.  Set the headphone as communication device (see image below).

Also please let me know if you can hear also the sound from the headphone itself

Thanks

Hello Eight Forums.

My trouble is the audio output through headphones - background is louder than foreground (especially in music - I often cannot hear the vocals at all; movies however are mostly fine, for reasons unknown to me; but generally, the sound is always different in some way).

I only have one pair of headphones to test it with. However these always worked fine with previous machines, and still do work fine with my iPhone 4. Although they are surely not the case, I cannot with confidence say that if it were a loudspeaker instead things wouldn't have been different.

So this is either a software or a hardware issue.

Software

My computer (details at the bottom) came with a SoundBlaster X-Fi MB3 equalizer program and RealTek High Def Audio drivers. I've uninstalled SoundBlaster hoping it would fix the issue (I didn't need an extra program like that anyway) but alas to no avail. Updating the RealTek drivers did no good still.

The only thing I haven't touched is the ghostly NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (can it be the source of my trouble?) - I only first noticed it now when copy/pasting the Belarc data. I'll try and find out about it in the meanwhile.

Hardware

I wonder if it perhaps has something to do with my audio jack (laptop's brand new, but you can never know). I have what appears to be mic, headphone, S/PDIF and line in jacks... Is there a way to use the microphone or the line-in to test the headphones? To see if the headphone out is broken.

Answer:Messed up headphone audio; want to check headphone jack

First, the "My System Specs" is where you fill in what you have.

Does the internal speakers on the laptop work? Is the audio OK on the internal speakers?

The SoundBlaster program(s) is a software enhancement to the basic audio chip (ReaklTek). Many PC's now come with some type of enhancement such as the SoundBlaster or in the case of HP PC's its "Beats Audio".

how can i connect both a microphone & a headphone ?

Answer:Laptop with combined mic/headphone jack, how to connect both mic & headphone ?

I haven't used one that had the port as a combined unit but I would assume you would need a headphone set with mic that has combined wiring, such as sets used for cell phones and such. You can also purchase an adapter that will split the port into 2 ports for mic and headphones.
Hope that gives you an idea

Well, I uninstalled my audio drivers and noticed that there was a red led shining from inside the 3.5mm headphone jack, which I assume is a mini optical audio (digital) combo 3.5mm audio (analog) jack, and I am figuring that it determins if there is an optical plug or not using drivers, which is why it turned on when I unistalled my audio drivers. I would like to know for sure before I go and buy a mini optical to toslink adpater cable so I can get better audio quality out (the digital interface does not suffer from the interference that the analog does right?). I did some research (research is a bit of an overstatement) and found no sites that mentioned it, so I have decided to turn to the forums. So, is this an optical jack combo? And, how will it work in terms of the drivers, will it just auto select? Thanks.

No it should go in. We have been getting reports of tight jacks. Don't know if it's a quality control issue. Try some different ones and insert more firmly than normally.
If none will go in all the way, but you do hear the audio, I wouldn't be too concerned. If not getting audio (the selection popup does not appear) because it won't go in, then contact tech support or send it back.

Hello Forum, I hope I'm posting this in the right place...?

My device:G780 Notebook (M843RGE I3-2370M), Windows 7
Audio Driver: Conexant Audio Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 Version  8.54.32.50 (Smart Audio: 6.0.131.0)

Situation:My headphone jack is broken. Repair is too expensive. Instead, I want to redirect the audio signal to the microphone jack.

Problem:This seems not to be possible with my SmartAudio interface (Screenshot below). But I found a screenshot of exactly the function I need called "Jack Configuration" in the Help section (second screenshot below). It looks like I dont have the right system configuration (whatever that means, I'm not an IT/PC expert ...) to use this feature.

My question:
Is there any way I can reconfigure the audio jacks on my notebook? Do I need another Conexant Audio Driver software and if yes, which one?

I'm grateful for any helpful reaction!

TOMMYSS,
If you purchased complete care from Dell you can call into Dell Alienware Support at 1 (877) 330-9732. If you did not you can possibly take it back to the store you purchased it from to see if they can help you. You can also try removing it yourself. Just make sure that it is unplugged before attempting to remove it.

Hi,

I am using a Tiny Media Notebook PIII, 700, Windows 98 SE. The computer is about four years old, and by now the headphone jack, which I use as my sound out port, is about fryed. The contacts have deteriated, and I can not replace the jack, as it is connected to the motherboard. Thus, aside from opting for a usb sound out, such as taking up the Soundblaster MP3+ option, I was wondering if I could reprogram the way in which sound is connected to external devices such as headphones. There are three jacks on the front of my computer: the headphone jack, the microphone jack and er I think it is a line out jack - the later jack which I have never used. Is there anyway I can swop/substitute the connection via the headphone jack say for the microphone jack or line out jack. Is there anyway I could do this?

Answer:Substituting the headphone jack with the microphone jack

No, afraid not. Each jack has it's own circuitry which provides for the needed resistance and other parameters. What you could do, if you got to the mobo itself, is to physically replace the jack but that's a major pain on a laptop.

You can try two things, one is to use alcohol and a Q-Tip to thoroughly clean the jack, then use a small bit of steel wool to sand inside with and then again with the alcohol and two, if the jack's worn too big for a tight connection, is to go to Radio Shack and buy a plug in adapter for that size jack. Some come with a slightly oversized male end and then you could plug into the female end and have a tight connection.

I purchased  a  3.5mm 4 Position TRRS Male to 2x 3 Position TRS Female Headset Splitter Adapter for my hyperx cloud headphones to plug into my XPS 15, except the microphone isn't working when its plugged in.
When I plug them in a window comes up 'which device did you plug in?' Mic in, Line in, Dell Devices (lists random unknown devices to me), Headphones/headset - headphones medium, external speakers - external speakers medium. Are these details correct? should something about the microphone come up also? I go to sound options, recording and it's still using the microphone in the laptop.
I tested the headphones on another laptop without the jack and the microphone on the headset is working great. So it's either the splitter isn't doing it's job... or something to do with the laptop, any ideas?

Answer:XPS 15 9560 Headphone jack function as a mic jack?

Well for your case, the headSET option would be correct, since that means a device that offers both headphones (audio out) and a mic -- but note that you do apparently also have a Mic In option, though this would prevent audio output to the headphones.  However, if selecting the headset option isn't working, the issue with the TRRS "standard" is that it isn't a standard. The industry never agreed on which pins would be used for which connectors (Ground, Mic, Left Audio, Right Audio).  I think Samsung did it one way and Apple did it another, for example, and this of course causes interoperability issues.  So if choosing "headset" isn't working, it's probably because the XPS is expecting Option A and your splitter is wired for Option B.Theoretically, given that the audio chipset allows the pins to be dynamically assigned to various purposes depending on the device that's plugged in, it MIGHT be possible to have a "Headset" and "Headset (Alternate Mode)" device option in order to accommodate both TRRS configurations, but I seem to recall one of the TRRS implementation differences being where the Ground pin was placed, and maybe that pin can't be reassigned simply via software, which might explain the absence of such an option. Sorry!

rEcently posted this click here and eventually bought this click hereNext question can I just connect the headphone socket of the recording unit to the PC audio socket using something like this click hereIf so which colour socket would I insert the jack into on the PC?

Answer:Headphone jack to PC audio jack.

If the Recorder as a output jack, you need by one that as that size of jack, also check if it needs stereo or mono to a input jack that is stereo to fit the input of the Laptop i.e microphone jack socket

Hello

ive been facing a weird problem, when i connect my microphone to the mic jack (the pink one) in the back of my computer, the audio software (i recently installed VIA Audio HD) sees it as it was connected to the line in jack ( the blue one). Also i dont have any front panel jacks, but the system thinks that i have them connected. as in the screenshot:

the line in device set as default is in fact the microphone attached to the mic jack.

anyway, when i uninstall the driver and run the windows troubleshooter, the mic starts working fine, but the audio jacks isnt recognized, just the hdmi ports from my GPU.

im using an Phitronics H55-m motherboard.

any suggestions please?

Answer:Microphone rear jack recognized as line in jack

In Control Panel/Sounds highlight Line IN and right click it and if you have the choice, uncheck Set As Default.
Now click the Configuration button Then Test.
You can also highlight the Microphone and do the same.
In the Via Control panel you can go to Expert Mode and disable the Front Panel. You can also click on each front panel port in the software and disable it or set it to default

Out of warranty by a month!Yoga Pro 2 - 256gb, installed new wireless card a month ago. Windows 8.1The touchscreen still works while the screen is black.  System restarted after sleep mode I think. The Lenovo logo is displayed, seems to load windows, but when windows loads (I don't see it load so this is an assumption) the screen blanks and the black light is on.I can connect an external monintor which will connect after a return from sleep mode(odd). Which then turns the backlight off. When on the external monitor the internal display is not even recognized by windows. When I boot in safe mode, the internal screen works fine with of course limited capability. I have reloaded display drivers from the support site. Right now my internal monitor is not recognized by windows and is dark, and I can use an external monitor. Anyone have any clues as to what my be going on? Hardware, driver etc??? What information can I provide?

Answer:Yoga Pro 2 - Display not recognized in windows (Driver or Hardware issue?)

This is a pretty weird issue with conflicting observations.

1) Screen works in Safe Mode but not in regular boot. (So, not hardware issue)
2) Display works on external monitor in regular mode. (So, not drivers issue)

Did you install the wireless card yourself? Did you unplug the display cable while installing the card?
Could you re-open and check that all connections are good?
Is the Wi-Fi card working well?

I would also recommend a complete reset of the laptop to eliminate the possibility that this is a corrupt driver. You can use the NOVO button to reset your laptop. Make sure to make a backup on external drive for your personal files.

So I have a WD external HD with all of my research data as well as some text books and other important things on there and for some reason I got an I/O error and after that the drive does not show on the computer anymore. The computer recognizes that there is a drive there and will read that it is a WD passport but cannot tell the size of the disk and will not register it as an external drive whose media I can explore and work with. What is wrong and how can I retrieve the data?

Could be the controller has become faulty... I/O sounds like the drive interface board has gone.

Have you tried running the Data Lifeguard Diagnostic from the WD website , see what it comes up with?

I apologize in advance for the length of this post, but I want to be thorough.

I have an intermittent problem with external (hot swap) hard drive recognition.

I have the following docks:
> Icy Dock MB171SP-B, internal SATA, powered like an internal drive
> Rosewill RX-358 V2 SLV, using eSATA (also has USB 2.0), external power supply
> StarTech SATADOCKU2E, using eSATA (also has USB 2.0), external power supply

These devices are all connected to the following PCIe card, for which the driver is up to date:
> SIIG SC-SA0R11-S1, DP SATA 6Gb/s 4-Port Hybrid PCIe

I have three external hard drives, all GPT:
> Seagate Barracuda ST3000DM001, 3tb, 7200 rpm (data backup #1)
> Toshiba DT01AC300, 3tb, 7200 rpm (data backup #2)
> Seagate ST3320620AS, 320gb, 7200 RPM (older drive, miscellaneous files)

My PC has the following:
> Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H motherboard, set to AHCI
> Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit
> C: is a Crucial MX200 250gb SSD (GPT)
> D: (data) is the same model as the backup Toshiba 3tb (GPT)

The Seagate 320gb drive is always recognized quickly in all three docks. When recognized, the 3tb drives will take longer.

But sometimes one of the 3tb drives won't be recognized, and it's happened with both of them. I'll get the Notification Tray balloon telling me the disk's driver has been loaded, but that's all. There's no other message, the drive won't show up in Disk Management or Device Manager, and scanning for hardware changes in Device Manager won't... Read more

Hey guys,
So I bought a XPS 15 9560 16gig ram, with 512 ssd, i7 FHD screen, it arrived 5 days ago and I loved it, its simply the best laptop ever. However, I am met with a strange issue, my headphone jack is useless, not as in the widespread problem with it but its physically useless, every headphone I tried to plug in, is literally not pluging in, like it will go in and just fall out...
So out of curiousity I took some pictures of the headphone jack and put flashlight next to it to see what is going on, and this is what I got:
Is this suppose to be like this? Am I doing something wrong? or am I right for assuming the worst is that dell didn't physically put a headphone jack assembly in my laptop? Please help.
Thanks, oh and if it is the latter, I'm going to return it and never touch dell ever again, its quite insane how poor the QA is.
Jack

Answer:XPS 15 Headphone jack

Hard to tell from the picture, but can you see the actual plug in the opening?  Maybe it wasn't secured internally.

Failed Sense Pin in Laptops with HD Audio -- [this section does not apply to older laptops with AC97 audio -- see Section 3]Dell laptops with HD audio (all models since 2006) utilize switching technology in the headphone jack, which is somewhat complicated. In addition to the usual mechanical parts, the jack uses current & impedance-sensing circuitry to trigger software configuration and switching (to send the audio signal to the speakers). These techniques are called the "sense pin" in this article. When the "sense pin" fails then there is usually this combination of symptoms:    * Speakers don't work and are not muted or deselected    * Headphone jack does work    * Reinstalling audio driver does not help    * Audio test in Dell 32-bit Diagnostics passes, or the speakers work in PSA tests    * On models with 2 headphone jacks, one may be "checked" in the control panel as if in use    * Sometimes but not always, a very gentle wigg... So I just got a Lenovo laptop yesterday for the very first time and I'm having some issues with it.  I stick my external speakers into it, and it does not recognize they are there.  The same goes for headphones.  I even tried plugging them in and going into Playback Devices, but nothing pops up.  What do I need to fix this?  I mean, the audio is good, but not even close to being as good with actual speakers plugged in, especially when listening to music. Oh, if it matters, it is a P500.

Question: LED HeadPhone Jack

Dear All, Lenovo Y410, there have a red LED on Headphone jack,  but there is no microphone LED light, ? Thanks

Nicholas K.H.ChaiMalaysiaYM: ckhown

Answer:LED HeadPhone Jack

HiIf the red LED is inside the headphone socket then this is for optical out, i.e. connecting your laptop to a surround sound amplifier using an optical cable and the red LED light isn't for finding the connection in the dark but is for carrying digital data.   The microphone socket doesn't output digital audio so it has no LED light inside it.RegardsPhil

Question: Headphone Jack

I accidentally broke a headphone plug off in the jack of my Gateway NE56R31 laptop. I have tried several different methods of removing it. One method included superglue which I am pretty sure has now glued the piece in. I am looking for suggestions for removing the plug or disabling the jack so that I have sound on my computer. Would a pair of USB headphones work? I mostly only use headphones when using my laptop. Thank you.

Answer:Headphone Jack

With the plug superglued into the jack, now the only way to fix the issue is with a replacement system board for the laptop. I don't know that USB or Bluetooth headphones would provide sound.

Question: Headphone Jack??

I have a GW M6307 with Vista HP 32bit. The headphone jack has suddenly stopped working.
I have done a restore back to when it was working..uninstalled and reinstalled audio drivers without results. The IDT control panel indicates something else is plugged into the jack both for the mic and HP. I also reinstalled the MS audio drivers that came with the machine. I cannot find any default anywhere to change any setting regarding this. The laptop speakers work but the default to HP when plugged in does not. The speakers conitnue to play with no sound in the HP.There are no indications of a loose connection and the laptop sits on a desk most of the time. I realize this could be a hardware failure but it's hard to believe and I know the headphones work with other devices.
Does any know where a default setting exists or how to confirm a hardware failure??

Answer:Headphone Jack??

If the HP works on other devices ..then its Ok....
So must be your pc .......
Go to device manager ... uninstall the sound card driver ... REBOOT IMMEDIATELY..."Let your pc install the original driver back"...
(BTW..When its plugged in..try to wiggle the cable ..see if it make any connection.?)

Question: Headphone Jack.

Hey there, I've so I think there must be a problem with my headphone jack, for some reason when I connect my headphone to the jack, I can always only hear on one side of the headphone. I can only hear on both sides when I apply some force to the jack, pushing it to the left and I would have to hold it to that position to get it working properly. I forgot since when I had this problem, but it has been like this for quite some time. and when I plug in the same set of headphones to my phone, it works just fine. I've tried this with 3 different headphones and a pair earphones and the problem still persists, so I'm assuiming it is the jack port that is faulty. I've been okay with having this problem because I would always usually just plug in both headphone and audio jacks in the cpu and insert a pen in between both the jacks, having the headphone jack pushed to the left all the time and making it always work. But just recenly I bought an external kareoke microphone which I planned on using to beatbox with, and when I record and playback, I can only hear from the left side of my headphone. Kinda ticks me off because I've spent a lot of money on my headphones, microphone and microphone jack converter but I still can't get the best out of my products. Plus, I would always switch from speakers to headphones, depending on whether I'm listening to music or gaming. What should I do? :/ (Sorry if I've sent any irrelevant information or my English is bad)

Question: Headphone Jack

Hey

I have a Acer TravelMate 3260. Its about a year or so old, and I am having problems with the headphone jack. For some programs it will work and others it will not. Sometimes I have to put the laptop to sleep and turn it back on before the headphones will work. Now, I have all my music on Windows Media Player, and the headphones will not work when I plug them in. I cant hear any of my music. But I can hear the sounds of the keyboard when I type, if that makes sense, the sound of the keys seems to be louder. I just want my headphones to work with windows media. There is nothing wrong with the headphones themself because they are new and work with everything else.

Please can some one help me!

i have a laptop computer and made the mistake of using my daughter's headphones. the tip came off of the plug-in part and is stuck inside the hole. any ideas on how i can get it out so i'm not stuck using dora the explorer headphones for the rest of my computer's life?

Answer:Stuck headphone jack

You could try using a paper clip to fish it out (MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF IF YOU START POKING AROUND INSIDE THE SOCKET). Unfortunately the socket is usually surface mounted to the edge of the motherboard. If you are handy with a soldering iron you could probably remove the socket and install a new one. Failing that it's "Dora the Explorer" for you!

I have a new samsung PX2370 hooked up to my mac mini or ps3 by HDMI.

I also use the monitors built in headphone jack. It works excellent... as long as the brightness is set to full.

When I turn down the brightness on my monitor, I get buzzing through my headphones. As the brightness gets lower,

it seems like the buzzing changes frequency. I don't have any visual interference, just audio, and it isn't detectable

when the brightness is set to 100%.

Any thoughts?

Answer:Headphone Jack Interference

Before someone says just use your monitor at full brightness, I should add that I get a mild headache if I use it for more than an

hour on full. Also, I should be able to return it if it isn't fixable by the way.

It is recommended to fill out your system specs. I have no idea what your system is or what audio driver/manager you are using.

If you have a realtek HD audio card- Install the audio manager, and set it to allow setting to pop up when jacks are used. That way you can tell it if you inserting headphones, mic, etc, and it will mute the external speakers and use the headphones-otherwise it plays out the speakers (this is common if you have a realtek card, and use the default Microsoft hd sound driver/software codecs. You may also note the "volume knob" does not work)

If you have a realtek card install the realtek driver/audio manager here:http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

My audio from my T500 works perfectly, except when I plug in headphones. Even when my headphones are plugged in, sound still comes from the speakers, not from the headphones. I've tried different headphones, so the problem isn't with my headphones. I have gone to device manager, disabled and re-enabled the audio controller and audio device several times, but it still doesn't work. Does anyone know what the problem may be? Thanks

Then when I insert my headphone, i can't hear anything. Drivers are updated. I've read that IDT (the one that I have) don't like windows 7... Also, i cannot set my headphones as default device.

Please help me out, can't use my headphones!

If you are inserting the headphones once film has started, chances are the film has already picked up the sound device as speaker and wants to use that. changing in the middle of something often results in no sound, for me at least. try plugging phones in before you turn the computer on, and leave them in. hopefully that should cure it. Please note the word hopefully...
