Charging issues!! Yoga Ideapad has stopped charging!!!

Question: Charging issues!! Yoga Ideapad has stopped charging!!!

Hi, My husband purchased an Ideapad Yoga 11S last year. Last month, the power cord stopped charging. I took the system into a repair shop, and they told me that the charger wasn't registering any power activity, and that I'd need to buy a new one. I ordered a new one... one month later, it too has stopped charging the computer! I have NO IDEA why? My son uses this for school, and he can't access any of his work, nor can he participate in classwork that requires the computer. I researched solutions, and found that I should unplug the unit and take out the battery --- YEAH RIGHT... a special screw driver is needed to do that, so we can't get the screws out without stripping them. I am VERY frustrated because the computer is no longer covered under warranty... is the new charger that I purchased covered? Is there something else that I can do? Any help in this matter is extremely appreciated. S_Reynolds

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, thanks in advance for any hep you can provide. My Yoga 900 has stopped charging. I have tried using a friends power brick and cable and that doesn't work either. I was charging it last week and I thought it was working but I noticed at 10% that it wasn't. It's now off and I don't know if it will turn back on, I don't want to try in case I need that last 10% for something. So I've ruled out (I think) the power brick and cable that came with it. I've tried to email support via the website and had no response (emailed on 14th November - it's now been a week!) I tried emailing them via the web service Resolver on the 19th and had no response. I tried calling them yesterday and after an hour on hold I gave up. Does anyone know how I can get hold of anyone from Lenovo who can help me? This was an expensive laptop and I'd like to be able to use it! Based in UK RegardsFuzzyDunlop

Answer:Yoga 900 stopped charging [UK]

Please visit http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/. I would suggest the live support chat feature, but if that isn't available, there is phone support as well. It seems like the charging port on your computer may be defective. No worries, Lenovo should be able to replace or repair the unit.

I have LOVED my Lenovo ideapad Y650. However, yesterday it stopped charging the battery. I was sitting there typing when all of a sudden windows started acting like it wasn't plugged in anymore. I pulled the plug out and it made the normal *beep* that it does when you plug/uplug it. THe LED on the case also changed indicating it had been plugged and unplugged. On windows though it still indicated it was running off battery and my battery was draining. I then tried an alternated power adapter and battery with the same result. Hardware indicated it was charging, software indicating it wasnt charging and actual battery not taking the charge. I found that if I turn the system all the way off, take the battery out turn it on just plugged in it will run fine and recognize being plugged in. If I then reinsert the battery it will charge the battery for a while but then start to malfunction again.  PLEASE HELP. I am in school and cannot afford another laptop. My life is on this thing

Hi, So out of the blue my Yoga 13 seized up while sitting at the start menu in Windows 8.1. I had to kill the local svc host which had accumulated over 2GB of ram... just so I could shutdown the machine,  but when I shutdown some craziness started. The power wouldn't turn off even after 20 minutes. I held it down forever and finally it did turn off (maybe the shutdown was incredibly prolonged). I did also flash the bios after this craziness, to the one on the suggested download site (version 55).  At any rate, that's when the problems really started: I got the plugged in not charging issue in windowsThe battery charging light no longer turns on when plugged in (though the battery is charging). The novo button doesn't work.Unauthorized battery messagePower button wasn't responsive when off. It took several minutes for it to register. I of course have tried, from the forums: Letting the battery run down to zero/Shutting down the power from the bios. The latter fixed the unautorized battery problem.Uninstalling/Reinstalling Lenovo energy management. This does allow the battery icon in windows to show charging above 90%... sometimes.Turned off fast boot in windows and bios. The problem with the power button not responding when off is much, much less in frequency now.Making sure that Maximum Battery was selected in Energy Management.Resetting the battery guageI reflashed my bios to version 55 with the default fan profiles located in a Lenovo KB article... Hello I own a thinkpad S1 yoga laptop (core i3 processor and 4 GB RAM). It suddenly stopped charging using 45W adapter (20V, 2.5 A). However, it is charging fine using a 90W adapter (20V, 4.5 A) which I got with my previous Lenovo laptop Any recent windows or system updates caused this? Is there any solution other than using a 90W adapter which I am scared to use as it may charge 47W battery too rapidly casuing a quick death of battery or explosion in the worst case. Please help

Answer:Thinkpad S1 Yoga stopped charging with a 45W adapter

Hi Chaitanya,Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.As I understand that you have query regarding your 45W AC Adapter is not charging your ThinkPad S1 Yoga
I believe the AC Adapter has gone bad as you have mentioned that its charging fine with 90W Adapter
I don't think so it is caused due to software or Windows updates. You can also check whether its getting charged in shutdown mode or not to confirm.

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Hello, Last month a message from lenovo power manager software pops up on the laptop, saying something like my power adapter needs to be replaced it is not providing enough. It continued to work for a few days before stop charging at all. When I plugged in to AC power, my Yoga would start charging for 2 seconds and stop. If I took out the plug and reconnect, it just did the same and not charge. While plugged in, the laptop charging icon disappears after the 2 initial seconds and the power light on my pc flashes steadly on/off amber. I managed to order this power adapter here before out of battery. When I received the adapter my Yoga started charging again with no problem. The next day however, my screen went black and stop working. Warrenty out dated, so I openned the machine and found a loose screw from the fan, put it back and by magic the screen is working again. The next day I plug in my laptop, let it charges for a few hours. When I turn it on the charging icon disappears again. Same thing as before, not charging with flashing amber light. I noticed that when unplugged, the light would go to solid white like normal. So I have 70% battery left before I feel like just throwing this thing in the trash! I couldn't find anybody with the same problem. I was wondering if updating the BIOS could help but when I tried a message came up "Please plugin and try again", Great...! Someone please help!

Answer:Yoga 2 13 - stopped charging - power light flashing amber

Hi pjz,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I would suggest try isolating if Battery or AC is causing this problem.

First is to try removing the battery on your Yoga
Here's is a simple guide.
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Lenovo+Yoga+2+13-Inch+Battery+Replacement/39456

Now while there is no battery Try plugging your adapter and try turning the computer ON.
It should power up using only the AC adapter.

If it did not.
Your problem lies with the the power System, COuld be the charging port. Try observing the Port or follow the wire that runs to it.

If the computer power up without the Battery in it, without any problem. This is a problem with your battery.

Let me know your findings
Regards
Solid Cruver

I have a Lenovo ideapad z360, which i've purchased a few months ago. I live in the Dubai (UAE). There is a problem with its battery charging. The problem seems to be with the power port since I've already got the power cable checked and its working fine. For charging the laptop i need to continuously adjust the cable node till the laptop actually starts charging. Once it does start charging, I have to hold onto the power cable node for 10-15mins till the time it is fixed into that position. There is no particular way in which, if I connect the power cable, it will start charging easily. Due to this, the moment i move my laptop even a centimeter, the charging goes off and need to start my trials again till it starts charging. I checked with a techie friend of mine and he said that this looks like the motherboard issue, he's not seen the laptop though. My laptop is within the initial warranty period. what can I do to get this fixed?

Hello all, I bought a Yoga 14 roughly a year ago and noticed that I am now having issues with charging. Whenever I plug in my charger I get the notification that it's plugged in but not charging and then switches to charging going back and forth from charging to not charging rapidly. In addition, the red indicator light on the Thinkpad logo on the laptop is blinking red. Also, my power plans keep changing from balanced to airplane and so forth. When I unplug the AC from the laptop it goes back to balanced and doesn't do it anymore. It only happens when I plug in the AC adapter. I've tried pressing the battery button on the bottom of the laptop, nothing changed. Ive tried changing wall sockets, nothing changed. any information on how to fix this charging issue is much appreciated!

Hey, As of today my Lenovo N585 is having battery charging issues. When I plug in the ac-adapter/charger the battery charging animation in Windows shows progress for almost 15 seconds then it stops. When I boot the laptop with the battery removed it works fine. The battery or Windows is the problem I'm guessing. Anyone else having this prob? Rafael M.

I very recently purchased a Ideapad Z565.  The problem I have is that  after working with the laptop unplugged for  awhile I plugit in for the battery to charge.  The battery will charge for 30 seconds then the screen goes to power save mode for 1 second and then back to charging for another 30 seconds.  After the 2nd 30 seconds charging the battery icon no longer shows the computer plugged in. It also does not charge the battery.  When the batterystops charging the power indicator on the front is blinking.  If I unplug the AC adapter and replug in the sequence starts again.  Additionally, if the lid is closed the battery will charge normally.  Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, KSquared

I've been having issues with my battery. If I unplug the charging adapter, my laptop immediately shuts off. The battery would stay at 0% and say "plugged in, not charging". I figured the problem was the battery so I replaced it. I still have the exact same problem but the battery percentage is 54%. It neither drains nor charges. I've tried reverting my power options to their default settings. My drivers were up to date. I've uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. And in advanced power settings I've tried restoring default settings and also changing reserver battery level for on battery and plugged in from 7% to 100%. Despite all this I still have the same initial problem.

Hey! I recently bought an Ideapad Y510P from an American seller on eBay, despite myself being located in Australia.  My issue is that, my battery will not charge unless I insert the battery, while my laptop is booting up. So basically it won't charge if:I power on my laptop with the battery insertedIf I remove and reconnect the charger adapter while it's runningI'm not too sure why it is doing this, all I really know, is that is started after I ran a battery calibration using Lenovo Energy Management.  I've contacted Lenovo Australia, but they said that they can't assist me because the laptop was manufactured in the United States, so they keep directing me to the Lenovo US technical support.BUT I've called the technical support in the United States about 3 times now. Two of which resulted in the technical support officer ending the call abruptly. I also called Lenovo Indonesia, and I got hung up on again. I'm not a mean person at all, nor am I showing any impatience/anger. So I'm a little annoyed about that. The first guy who help me from the United States, told me to remove Lenovo Energy Management and he told me to also uninstall an ACPI battery in the Device manager. None of which actually helped But at least he tried to help me! I really want this fixed because I need my laptop to complete Uni coursework.  I'm also in love with it . It's the best laptop i've ever had, I just want to be able to use it properly again &... Read more

Hi all,I have a brand new i7 Yoga 13 running windows 8 from Best Buy. As soon as it booted up, I have not been able to charge my battery. As I hover over the icon, it says "Plugged in and Charging" but it does not include a percentage. I have had it plugged in overnight, and if I unplug the computer, it will die immediately. I have tried updating my BIOS, energy managment and setting it to "Maximum battery life," but nothing changes. Thoughts? Thanks

I purchased a brandnew Yoga 910 4K model back in January and have barely used it since. Video of the problem: https://photos.app.goo.gl/JSzvJqJEZJdhJTFn1 Shown in the video, my laptop has a charging problem, where the LED keeps blinking and my laptop ceases to properly charge. Even when the laptop is completely shutdown, the blinking still occurs. I have uninstalled the ACPI- Compliant Control Method Battery driver and reinstalled it, updated BIOS, and updated all the drivers, but nothing works. Does anybody else have the same issue and can anybody help me solve this?Any help is appreciated!

I just received my Yoga 3 Pro-1370 Laptop from the Lenova Repair Center - this was the 2nd service request for the battery issue.  The laptop battery still does not charge when the AC adapter is plugged into an electrical outlet.  Sometimes the charging indicator light will indicate that it is charging - but charges 10 - 15 seconds and goes off.  Confirmed the battery is not charging even though the light is not on just to be sure the issue is not with the power indicator light.  At this point the Lenova Repair Center has had possession of my laptop longer than I have in 2017.  Not sure where to turn to, Call Center/Support seems to be encountering problems and can't log a Service Call?   Seriously, I was asked to schedule a call for them to call me when their systems are up?  Laptop is under warranty, but I'm beginning to think they are trying to run out the clock. I'm typing fast - as Battery Life is below 10%   Any and all suggestions are welcomed.Regards.

Hi. I recently bought a Lenovo Yoga 500 laptop, and I'm quite disappointed. When I plug in my charger, 9/10 times it starts to charge, then immediately stop charging, then charge again for a second. This results in never charging. Eventually it charges normally, but it's completely random and sometimes requires 5+ restarts. I need this laptop for school so taking it off for repair is hard for me but I will do it if there is no other way. I got a second charger from a friend and this still occurs, so the problem isn't with the charger. Anyone have any idea for a fix? Thanks

I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

I have a G560 , when battery is depleted and needs a charge . If I plug my AC adapter in my battery icon shows I have the AC power but the icon shows that it is charging for 17 seconds and then quits showing that it is charging. If I unplug the power supply and then plug it in again. The same 20 seconds thing. I can get the battery to completely recharge all the way up if I plug and unplug. I am wondering if it is a defective voltage regulator problem? I do not want to replace the battery if the battery is not bad. It is just out of warranty by 3 monthes. This just started happening . Thanks and God Bless : )

So lately I've been having an issue with my laptop.  The charger is plugged in but the computer doesn't seem to recognize it unless I shift the laptop to a certain position.  This seems to have little to do with the position of the AC plug in the DC port at all as it's not the same positions that will actually get the computer to recognize the charger is plugged in. I don't think this has anything to do with the battery itself as removing the battery does not make the connection more consistent.  The computer will still not recognize the AC adapter is plugged in.  I had the same problem with my old laptop, a V570. It will also briefly lose connection and restore it before my display can process it.  I know this by the CPU throttle in the BIOS (which I can't access to turn off because of the version of BIOS used) will randomly slow my computer down and won't restore to full speed when the charger is making connection again. What just happened lately which is making me wonder about this more is that my laptop stopped recognizing the charger as being plugged in in the tray icon but the charger light on my laptop started flashing orange.  The blue power light was also flashing. Sometimes when I restart my computer to reset the CPU throttle, I will get a pop-up message from the Battery Management Software stating, "Adapter has limited support: performance will be affected ..." Full specs available on the purchase page here. &n... Hi! I bought my Lenovo Ideapad about a month ago. Pretty much since the very first day I've had trouble with charging it, when it's plugged in the cord needs to be in an exact position or else the laptop won't charge. Now the laptop won't charge at all, no matter what position the cord is in. Help! I'm in university so I don't have time to take it in to get fixed or send it back (I ordered it online) without missing weeks of class! Thank you

Hi there, new on the forums. I've just bought my first ThinkPad and can't tell if the charging is complete while the laptop is off. I charge the laptop mostly when it's off but the only chargin indication I can see is a constant green LED near the charging port. I would have expected it to be red during charge and turn green when charging reaches 100%. Are all E320s like this? A very annoying problem

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E320 Charging LED; how can you tell if its charging complete?

It seems that Lenovo engineers decided that Edge users don't need as many indicator lights as other models have.  In my E420 there are only 2: AC power adapter connected (green light next to power connector) and On/Off/Sleep status (red light dot in ThinkPad logo). That's it!  If you want to know the battery status you have to open Windows.

Hi, I upgraded my Sony Vaio to Windows 10. Since the upgrade, battery icon showing "Plugged in, Charging" but not actually charging. Always it is in 3% and when unplug the power, system shutdowns.

Answer:Sony Vaio - shows charging, but not charging the battery?

From: Recovery and Troubleshooting Guide
Connect to a Power Outlet in the Startup Guide.
When you intend to run your VAIO computer on battery power, the battery pack may have run out of power. Connect the computer to a power outlet. For details, refer to Connect to a Power Outlet in the Startup Guide.
If you did not previously follow the standard procedure to turn off your VAIO computer, the power controller may be suspended due to a program error.
Do as follow:
- On the models with a built-in battery pack, unplug all cables and peripheral devices, including the AC adapter and USB devices, from the computer, push and hold the battery off button for at least three seconds with a thin, straight object (such as a paper clip), and leave the computer for at least
five minutes. Then, plug the AC adapter and turn on the computer once again. For the location of the battery off button, refer to Locating Parts and Controls in the Startup Guide.
- On the models with a removable battery pack, unplug all cables and peripheral devices, including the AC adapter and USB devices, from the computer, remove the battery pack, and leave the computer for at least five minutes. Then, reinstall the battery pack and turn on the computer once again.
? If the charge indictor is blinking or the ? power button does not work, a battery error may have occurred or the battery pack may not be detected.

Hello and peace on you..
I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.
Please, i'm seeking for help
I hope you can ... Read more

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Sadly without any result ;-(... Read more

I recently had my Qosmio F55-Q502 repaired by Toshiba.
Two issues were addressed and one is fixed.

However, the second was attempted to be resolved unsuccessfully.

When I attempt to play multi-media games such as Call of Duty IV, even if the system is fully charged, within minutes the system will start to blink the "backlights" and then when I see the charging icon, it says "Plugged in, Not Charging."

This really concerns me as I have read online many similar issues, but none of the solutions seems to work.
To have to restart the machine everytime this happens and your in the middle of a game, really stinks!
I even had it happening with SimCity4 which is an ancient game.

Any good suggestions on this?
They did replace the battery when it was sent in which seems to be what most people say needs to be done.

Answer:Qosmio F55-Q502 - charging icon says: Plugged in, Not Charging

Hello

If your Qosmio notebook was in repair I think you should not discuss about any issue on forums but make a pressure on service and clarify every single problem with your notebook.
Please do this because the warranty is still valid and now is the time to clarify everything.

I am not hardware specialist but it sound to me as some power supply electronic issue but I cannot say for sure. Talk with service. Try to clarify this with them. Be nice, be cool and everything will be ok.

Hi...

I am having a problem with my laptop computer. I figured out that my laptop, when being charged or using the Power Outlet, runs at 100% CPU at times, and slows me down when running and working on some open applications. At first I thought I had tons of spyware or even a virus, and even posted a Hijackthis file here. Nothing was found.
I figured out that my cpu runs at 100% when using the power outlet, or when my computer is chargnig. When I unplug the powercord and use the battery life, everything runs GREAT!!!!! my cpu drops to a normal 4-8% usage with multiple applications running. WEIRD huh? Can anyone relate to this ?? Is this and indication that my battery is going bad???? Can someone help me with this or suggest what is going on? I am running windows XP home edition, and have a compac presario 1500 series. Pent 4..

HELP!!!

Hi Guys, I have had to change my battery, got a brand new DELL battery but I can't get it to charge...I'm running Windows 10 PRO. I have tried the fixes listed above but unfortunately NONE has solved my problem. Any suggestions?

Answer:XPS 12 9Q23 Power Charging Disabled / Plugged in, NOT CHARGING

Hi DAEMONROD.
Where have you purchased the battery from? Does the old battery charge fine when plugged in?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Test another power adapter and check. If the adapter fits in loose, then the dc port needs to be replaced. You would need this part.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I have bad my ideapad for about 2 years and treated it well. A few weeks ago I left it off the charger and it died this rarely happened. But after it died it would not boot up again I left it charging for a few days then tried to turn it back on but no luck. I continued to try and charge it but nothing was happening. I bought a new battery that got the computer to boot. So I think problem solved. But I noticed that the battery was not charging while the AC adapter was plugged in.I tried leaving it plugged in. But that did nothing. Calling lenovo was a waste of. Time since I'm no longer under warranty. So I bought a new charger. But the battery still is not charging. Trying to boot it with just the AC has not worked either. Please, is there anything I can do?

Answer:My ideapad y560p is not charging help please

Welcome to the forum! With the AC adapter disconnected and the battery removed try pressing the power button for 10 seconds.  Then reinstall the battery and plug in the AC adapter to see if it is now charging.  I know it is a long shot, but worth checking out.   If that doesn't do it, when the AC adapter is plugged in is power indicator illuminated on the laptop?  If not, your problem maybe with the power jack on the laptop itself.  Power jacks are fairly easy to replace provided you are comfortable with going inside your machine.  Unfortunately I can not find a Hardware Maintenance Manual listed for your model.  The closest I can find is for the Y560 model.  I have listed that manual below for your reference.  Page #70 of that manual shows the power jack assembly.  http://download.lenovo.com/UserFiles/UserGuide/en/User's%20guides%20and%20manuals/Y560/Lenovo%20Idea... As far as the part itself, eBay is a very good source for replacement power jacks.  In checking, they are showing the same power jack for both the Y560 and the Y560p models.

Battery is not being charged.  When I disconnect the battery and leave the AC adapter plugged in and switch on, should the tablet work.  If it doesn't (my case) does this point to the AC circuit being faulty?  If the unit is plugged in but left for a while the battery will charge up, but very slowly. It was left for 24 hours like this and only had 33% charge.

Answer:Ideapad Battery not charging

Hi PandyO,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

What is the model or machine number of your laptop?

The machine should turn on without the battery and directly plug the charger.
It would be best to follow the "Power check out guide" from the hardware manual which you can download from here on the support site.

It would also help if you have a spare charger to test with aside from using a voltmeter.

Update us how it goes.

Is it possible to charge the device using the USB port, either plugging directly not a computer or via a Kindle or Apple wall charger?  I notice that the charging light comes on when connected to the computer, but my impression is that it doesn't charge (at least not very much).  I know the dedicated charge with the round plug is 5V at 2.5 Amps.  So the USB charger is 5V but usually only about 0.8 to 1.0 Amps.  The Fire fast charger at Amazon is 1.8 Amps.  Could you use that in the USB port?  What about an adapter plug from USB to the round pin?  I've seen a  few of those and it would be easier than lugging the dedicated charger around.BTW, I've tried on the Android forum and on Mobilereads to get a response to this question and no one seems to know.

Dear Nicu03

Welcome in lenovo community

If your battery has much lesser capacity or does not charge any longer, you may want to perform a gauge reset on it.

Note: make sure the AC adapter is plugged in when perfoming a gauge reset.

Go to Power Manager > Battery tab > Battery Maintenance and select Reset battery gauge .

Please let us know if you need more clarifications

Thanks

Earlier today, my Yoga 3 Pro decided to stop charging.  When plugged in, the battery continues to drain as if it was not plugged in.  I have tested the A/C adapter by plugging in my phone with a micro USB and that worked fine, and the USB charging slot works when my wireless mouse is plugged into it, so I assume it must be the strange Y3P USB cable that is not working.   Would a normal USB to USB cable work for charging my laptop?  If not, how do I replace that "kink" USB cable?  I haven't seen any for sale anywhere and I'd rather not have to pay $40 for a whole new charger on the Lenovo site if the cable is the only issue.

Answer:Yoga 3 Pro Not Charging

Hello and welcome,

The Y3P and its charger need that special cable.  The charger and laptop have an extra set of pins in the USB sockets that pass 20V to charge the laptop.  A standard USB cable doesn't support those extra contacts.  The charger also provides 5V on the standart USB pins.

Your test of the charger with a your phone shows that the 5V portion of the charger is working but doesn't verify the 20V portion.  It's possible that the charger is bad.

When you plug the laptop and charger together does the battery icon indicate that AC power is attached?  You could have a bad charger, a bad cable, a bad laptop connector (or other component) or the battery management software could be messed up.

Sorry I don't have an easy test or fix.  It may be necessary to actually swap the cable and charger to diagnose this one.

[edit] The Y3P is a fairly new machine.  If this is under warranty, support should be able to help you:  1-877-4-Lenovo, 1-877-453-6686

Hi ARob6,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

This may be part of the normal energy conservation for the battery so that it would prolong battery life not exceeding charging as described in this article:

Battery charge stops at 60% (plugged in, not charging)? - idea/Lenovo laptops

The battery charge stops at 55%-60% even with AC adapter plugged in and shows "plugged in, not charging? message. Battery cannot be charged to full.
Two methods are introduced, please perform accordingly:

Method One Configuring Lenovo Energy Management, Power Manager, OneKey Optimizer or Lenovo Settings
Method Two (this method is only applicable for models with detachable battery)

Click on the article for changing the configuration whichever may apply to yours. Changing power energry from conservation mode to full performance would allow charging to 100% but is not advised for prolonged setting as this is normally intended to extend your battery life cycle.

Hope this help answer your query.
Update us how it goes for you.

Either this is a complicated problem that's over my head or maybe it is the charger port. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix it or at least find out exactly what's wrong, I would greatly appreciate it. And it isn't the battery either because i tried the same battery on my friend's laptop and that worked too. Thanks!

Ok I have tried all the different fixes out there from removing and re installing the energy management tool to removeing battery and uninstalling hardware then installing battery and doing a fresh hardware install.  Still getting "plugged in and charging" but battery is not charging at all been sitting at 0% since day one.  Brand new machine just got delivered 3 days ago.  Any other suggestions? Have tried to run the energy management tool battery gauge reset, this does nothing, have tried running multiple times and will not charge the battery like it says. thanks in advance for any help.

You might want to go to the lenovo support centre. Looks likes a problem with the battery.

I got my laptop a year ago but now it won't charge properly. Sometimes it charges and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it charges on and off, with enough power to keep it on but not adding to the battery life (so if the laptop battery is at 14% for example, it would stay there not lower, not higher). Other times it would charge all the way to 100% and other times it wouldn't charge at all.At first I thought it was the charger but I just bought a new one and it's still doing the same thing.

Hi SandyRaza  and welcome to the community,

This sounds like you have a faulty connection in the mains socket. you would need to get that checked by a technician.

Hi,

I am not sure which board my Ideapad U530 Touch should go on......

I charged my Thinkpad last night and this morning when I unplugged it, it said battery was low. I was surprised as I had charged it overnight.  I plugged it in again, and the battery iccon shows this message: 99% available (plugged in, not charging). I have been searching for ways to resolve this but haven't found anything appropriate for my model.

The laptop was manufactured 7/9/2014.
Model: Lenovo Ideapad U530 Touch.
Windows 8.1.

I have had it since September and have never seen this message (but possible that I hadn't noticed).
Since purchase I do notice that the battery definitely does not last the 6-8 hours as the specs say.

Appreciate any help on the battery not charging!
Thanks.

I often encounter this, but here is the real headache. I have googled a fix for this, but unfortunately it will only work if the battery is removable, which case not for the Ideapad 310-15ikb. Always have to revert back using Acronis. Any other possible solutions for this?

Hey, So in the past couple of days I've noticed that my Y570 isn't charging properly. With normal use such as internet browsing, facebook, e-mail, etc. there is no problem. However I often use my computer to game stuff like Don't Starve, League, CSGO, etc. So I'm thinking the problems is something to due with heat. Any help would be appreciated!  Cheers, Johannes.

Usually it then switches off again.  When I can get to the desktop the battery strength is shown as 0% plugged in , charging, but does jnot charge. The battery light is a permanent orange. Can anyone assist?

My new U410 is plugged in but the power and battery symbol on the desktop is showing '95% available (plugged in not charging )'. Is this normal or is there a problem ?

Answer:IdeaPad U410 - Charging Query

Depends on where you have your charging thresholds set. In order to preserve battery life, the system can be set that the battery doesnt constantly recharge, but will only charge once it falls below a certain level. I use my computer on wall power 99% of the time so I have my system set to only recharge when the battery falls below 20% charged. Check your battery settings and adjust if necessary.

When I bought this computer 6 months ago, the battery worked fine, and would charge fully when the power ran down. But now for some reason, it says 1% available, battery not charging. I've tried to do a cold boot, also I've tried different power management settings, and I've tried taking out the battery and putting it back in. But for some reason, I can't get the battery to charge. Any ideas? Pete

Hi there Hope someone more technical than me can help. I have a Lenovo Ideapad u260 laptop which is out of warranty. There seems to be a problem in charging the laptop, it only charges when the laptop is standing on its side. I think the problem may be a loose connector on the power board/motherboard where the charging cable connects. Is this a correct diagnosis?Does anyone know what part number of the power input board/connector?Where can I buy this to replace? Thanks Nads21

I would assume then that I qualify in order to answer your question. The loose connection diagnosis made is possible. Other possibility that you might want to eliminate first are: 1. loose connection on the power port.  2. broken or loose power cord either in the ac side or the output side of the power adapter specially near the plug. If you refer to the hardware maintenance manual it seems that the power port is part of the mb. Examination of the partlist indicate that only the ac adapter and power cord are listed.

is it possible to run this laptop without the battery pack? my last laptop  had a removable battery but this model appears to be fixed? there are screw fixings but im not sure if these will detach anything, would welcome any information on this.
when the battery is fully charged can the adapter remain plugged in? or should i remove it? i was wondering if there is a cut out for when full charge is reached or it just keeps charging as i use it, this is why removable battery packs were standard a few years ago and the laptop could run off the mains with the charger plugged in, i would rather do this than eventually have to replace a worn battery later on at more cost etc,
thanks for your help in advance

Answer:ideapad 110 - Battery charging question

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

As you found out, the battery for your model is not removable by the consumer.  A simple solution to your problem if you are using Windows 10, which I'm guessing you have, is to use the Lenovo Settings app.  One of the options of Lenovo Settings is Conservation Mode.  That mode will maintain the battery at a 50 to 60% charge level which will allow you to power the laptop by the adapter without continually charging the battery.  The Lenovo Settings app is available in the Windows 10 Store if you do not have it installed already.  Just search the store on the word Lenovo to easily find it.

Once in Lenovo Settings just click on the battery icon on the left menu.  A new screen will open on the right and in the middle of that screen will be Conservation Mode.  Just enable it.  In the event you need a 100% charge to go portable with the laptop, just disable Conservation Mode.

Thanks Ceb. That makes sense. I just hadn't noticed the message before. Line yourself I nearly always use my laptop connected to the wall but does this mean that the battery will only charge to 100% once it falls below the threshold you set ?

I've had my i7 X220 for about 4 months now - using it every day, loving it.  Today I had quite a scare ... All of a sudden I got the low battery warning ... yikes, it was plugged in!  Checked all my connections, tried a different outlet, removed and reinserted the battery.  Still no charge.  I had everything backed up, but what a pain - I especially need this laptop for next week's travels and photo-editing.  Waited an hour - tried again - voila!  It's charging again.  My question - is there something in the Power Manager that disables battery charger if the computer gets too warm?  I didn't experience any problems, but I was running a lot of programs simultaneously, and I noticed both the charger and laptop were warmer than usual.  I promptly ordered a spare battery and a spare AC adapter, but just curious if there might be something else going on.  It has passed all the diagnostics and has been working okay for the last 4 hours.

I have a 1 yr old SL 410 and it has been not a reliable as I would have liked.  My current problem is suddenly the battery has stopped charging.  The charger is good, and the Power Manager reports the battery condition as GOOD and 72% charge.  But the "Activity" is "No Activity" and it should say "Charging."  If I unplug the charger, the battery starts to drain, but if I plug it in, I got the little plug but no charging activity.  It's very frustrating.  I have a spare charger, and it does the same thing.  And everything was ok up till Friday. I run the Lenovo diagnostics and everything passes.   Does anyone have any idea what I can do?
