Yoga 2 Pro battery life under Windows 10

Question: Yoga 2 Pro battery life under Windows 10

Hi folks, Had a quick search but can't find discussion of this. How are people finding the battery life since the upgrade? I'm finding that it's even worse than it was before - and it's always been pretty terrible. I reckon i'm getting about 3 hours on average. Does anyone have any tips as to how I can monitor what's using up the battery? Ideally a bit like battery monitor apps on Android. I've also noticed a general performance degredation - Chrome becomes all choppy and slow. Not sure what's going on there but I'm guessing the two things are linked if the CPU is under a heavy load. Cheers Alex

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Yoga 2 Pro battery life under Windows 10

My battery life is about the same as 8.1 (6 to 6.5 hrs). I use a program called BatteryBar that will monitor your usage and gives pretty accurate predictions of when you battery will run down. It doesn't track specific programs however. Also, keep an eye on tasks running in the background using task manager while you think it should be idle. You can minimize the task manager to the icon tray to help with this. I also run the displlay at 2048x1152 resolution (@150% scaling) which makes apps like chrome scroll a little smoother (perhaps due to less data being displayed). Not sure if that helps battery life or not. There a lots of sites you can google to track down specific issues with battery life.

Hi all,Just made the jump to W10 and first thing I noticed is I have double the battery drain during idel. Not good.I've been working through process I can kill/disable and cleared out Skype, Search etc. and it was still a battery killer so now I've killed all of the Intel processes. Is this bad? I don't see any change in performance or heating, but I'm back to the old W8 idle drain of 5000 - 6000 which is 8+ hours of idle with screen at 50%.Is this safe does anybody know? I never killed the Intel stuff under W8.Otherwise I really like W10 but if the battery is this bad and I need those processes for safe running I'll revert to W8.

I updated to 8.1 and noticed that the orange battery light now blinks all the time (about 1 per second) and the battery only charges 50 - 60% range.  I have Lenovo Energy Management enabled and set to maximize battery life (power plan=balanced).  Tried running the Battery Gauge Reset - it ran for 10+ hours before I had to cancel it to use the laptop... how long does it take to run?? Any fixes? Anyone roll back to Windows 8.0 with any success?

Hello, lucky Yoga 2 Pro owners! I'm so close to picking this baby up this weekend, but during pre-production reviews I had heard mixed things about battery life. Now that it's actually out, how has the battery performed? Does the high pixel screen erase the gains from the Haswell chip? Thanks for any insight before I take the plunge!

I purchased a Yoga 3 Pro last month and love it. Had read all the reviews that stated in was a great PC with marginal battery life. In looking at the tested times of 5 plus hours of battery life, that was fine with me. However, I was averaging 4 hours max. Kept reading the Forums and found out Lenovo had issued a Harmony update. Harmony was running in the background using 90% of the CPU, which was killing the battery. Ran the one touch optimizer which installed the patch and am now getting 6 hours plus of battery time. Run the optimiozer now and Harmony will drop down to 3-4% of CPU  and you battery life will be great!

My yoga 2 13 is draining the battery too fast . I can no more than four hours of use, maybe a little more . Always use wi fi , I used the inernet reasonably and saw some videos in low resolution . Who has the yoga 2 13 , could you tell me how long the battery for me to establish a reference to mine? Do I have a defective unit ?

Answer:Yoga 2 13 - Low battery life

I had a similar problem with my Yoga 2 13, but read elsewhere on this forum that it is due to using a non-Lenovo provided power plan. Use the Lenovo Energy Manager app (not the Windows one) and choose a power plan - I use the "Daily" one. Battery life seems to have improved since doing this.

Hi, I have a thinkpad t450 but want a new slightly more compact laptop with a better screen. Among my considerations from Lenovo would be the Yoga 260 or 460 models. How would people here rate them? I'd be looking for a minimum of 8.5 hours of battery. Could anybody say whether this is achievable? I've looked at online reviews which say anything from 6-9 hours for the 260, and I doubt somewhat Lenovos own clain of 12. Could anyone tell me how long theres would go on before running out of juice and any other considerations I should have when making a decision.

I've had my 910 4k for a couple of days now but I just don't seem to be able to get much over 4.5hrs battery life out of it. I've checked background processes and can't see anything eating the battery. I've not really installed anything on it yet and most of the time, I'm just browsing the net using Edge browser and brightness set to 50%. Really love the laptop but this battery life is getting me down! Will it improve after a few cycles?Right now, it's at 21% and it's telling me that it's got 2hrs 47 mins to run. Thats a lie because a few minutes ago, it told me it was at 22% and had under 1 hr left!Do I let it charge to zero and then charge it back to 100%? I'd be grateful for any help or advice please!

I have just bought a Yoga 3 Pro Ultrabook. The ticket claimed 9 hours battery life for usual tasks (word/internet etc), but the salesman told me it would be nearer to 6 or 7, which I decided I could live with. I've just set it all up and installed Windows 10. It was fully charged when I removed the power chord and I'm told I only have 3 hours and 5 minutes of battery.  I have the power plan on 'balanced/recommended'.  Can this really be right? I would not have bought it if I had known the battery life would be so poor. Any help in how I can increase the batter charge? Many thanksWill

Answer:Yoga 3 Pro battery life

The estimates of Windows are not very accurate.
Use it and test it yourself. The battery life depends not only on your power settings but also screen brightness, keyboard brightness and most importantly - CPU usage.

Answer:Yoga 3 Pro - Battery Life

It says on Lenvo website up to 7.2 hours maximum. The battery is 45 Watts so realistically maybe 4 to 5 hours when new and used normally. Try to find the app or download the app called Lenovo Settings then navigate to Home > Power where you could have some information on the current "Full Charge capacity". This should be a bit less than 45W as your battery was aging since you have been using the notebook. However, if this is very much less than 45W your battery has aged quite a big. You can also change the power management settings in Windows 10 Settings > Power and Sleep > Additional Powersettings. A new screen will open with your power plans where you can click on Change Power Plan with several options.

I have it plugged in to the ac power outlet most times. I typically charge it to a 100 percent and then switch off the ac power and let it drain down to 30 percent or so - but only when I remember to. Most often it's running from AC power and its charged fully to 100 percent. I'd be grateful for any advice on how to take care of the yoga 2 pro's battery when I use it like a desktop? Thank you,Lakshmi

Open Lenovo Energy Manager, click on the three dots(followed by lines) at the right edge of the Energy Manager just below the close 'x' icon, then head to Settings tab, and click on the button for Conservation Mode. Note that your battery will no charge above 60 percent if you turn this mode on. This will help increase your battery life.

What sort of battery life are you guys getting with this laptop? (The one with usb 3.0 ports and 6000 series intel).  Of the countless issues I've had with this (mostly driver related), battery issue is one of the biggest. I can't seem to get more than 5 hours normal usage. I've got the screen at 50%, keyboard backlight at its lowest setting, and some music in the background. CPU usage averages below 20%. I've got several tests I tried:1. I have chrome minimized with ~8 tabs (nothing playing or anything), and excel minimized. The only large process was Google Drive downloading. I wasn't doing anything on the computer. That gives me 3 hours, 49 minutes of battery life (94% remaining).  2. Browsing a forum while listening to music in youtube. (Chrome eating so much ram Windows is at 6gb used just with 10 tabs open.). 3 hours, 32 minutes battery life (90% remaining) 3. A stress test, Aida64 running a CPU stress test. 2 hours 27 minutes battery life (87 remaining).  Here's what's even more interesting. Battery wear level. Based on Window's battery report, I lost over 9% battery life wear since when I got the laptop (January this year I think). So 6 months. Here's the catch, it's more like 5 months because those first 5 months is when I used the laptop for college. After the semester ended, I pretty much stopped using it. This means that if I used the laptop frequently like in college(which wasn't even that often), I would wear the battery 20% ev... Read more

Answer:Thinkpad x1 Yoga 1st gen(?) battery life

Hi, the below is a copy-and-paste of a reply I posted in another thread.  That thread was discussing Gen 2 battery run-time (not "life") and I had done a little testing on my Gen 1 for reference:

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/questions-about-TP-Yoga-series/m-p/3704325

Not sure how directly this applies to the Gen 2 , but I'm doing some testing with the Gen 1 X1Y this evening.

Letting things run long enough for the battery gauge to stabilize:

Thunderbird: reading email: 9-10 hours, maybe a little more.

FireFox: poking around the forums:  6-9 hours depending on content and how fast I'm navigating pages.

Skype video session:  maybe 4 hours.

This is an i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD with the 2560x1440 non-OLED display @ ~ half brightness - which is plenty bright for evening surfing.

In my use case(es) it's an 8-10 hour machine for the most part.  I don't use Chrome so I can't speak to that.

FWIW,
Z.

Hey there! So I just picked up my Yoga 3 14 after reading a number of reviews. From what I read people seem to to be clocking up around 7 hours. Since owing the machine I have updated the OS to Windows 10 and installed a few bits and bobs. As I sit here with the screen brightness at 50% Windows tells me that I have 2 hours remaining. Naturally this estimate varies quite a bit but I generally seem to be getting around 3 hours of light use. Running the windows battery health check shows that the battery looks OK so I'm not sure why I seem to be getting less battery life than the revewers, unless Windows 10 is a massive battery hog. Also, I tend to keep the brightness around 50% and the power plan on balanced. Any more Yoga 3 14 owners out there? How does your battery fair?

Answer:Yoga 3 14 i7 poor battery life

Pretty happy with my 11s/haswell but thinking the batterylife is a bit weak.. although I've only had it for a couple weeks and recharged it a few times.. not quite sure if I've used it enough to know for sure. I just did a battery rundown test..  about 5 hours and 15 minutes with screen at 50 percent playing a repeating 720p MKV movie. I was thinking I'd get 6 or 7 after checking some others reviews.. just wondering if anyone knows if mkv's are substantially tougher on battery? vs lower res avi's? And if this seems to be good or bad battery life?  Also and while the screen looks pretty darn good for a 1366x768 I have substantial light leakage around the bottom right of the screen and wondering if this is par for the course on these? I'm very slighlty having some buyers remorse.. I feel pretty good about the laptop but thinking I may have been happier with the 13" yoga 2 pro..

Hi, Lenovo claims the X1 (4th gen) or X1 Yoga can last 11 hours on battery. Great numbers but I guess nobody experienced it.The best I can get is a top 5 hours making sure that the system is on power save mode and about 6 hours when the Battery saver is enabled on Windows 10. I had to install a program to switch to save mode every time the laptop is running on battery. If not I forget to switch to Power Save mode and the battery only last 2 hours. I also pay attention to background program that may eat CPU.Honestly, 6 hours of battery life is pretty good but not even close the 11 hours claimed by Lenovo. The new X1 will have 16 hours of battery life, it means 8 hours in reality. Here are my questions. How many hours do you get on your X1 4gen or X1 Yoga? What did you do to improve it?Any secret recipe?

I get around a couple of minutes of use for every percent of battery with the screen brightness set one below the mid range setting. It's less than half what the 'guide' in the system tray reckons I should get at any point in time. This is simply reading a page in IE, or browsing. I'm in balanced mode but it doesn't make much difference. I lost 20% overnight while it was asleep. Task Manager shows no surprises - I can't see any process responsible. I calibrated it the other night after it went from 40% to drained in a couple of minutes. It's for a similar reason that I returned a Nexus 9 (though it also ran intolerably hot). What can I try before logging it with support? Are there any key diagnostic utilities I should look at and what evidence would lenovo need?

Answer:Yoga Pro 3 - battery life < 4 hours

I suspect the CPU usage is the one that causes your battery life. Check to see how much CPU usage you're using while doing your daily tasks. I also don't recommend performing a battery calibration on a brand new battery since it reduces battery "shelf" life significantly. Also, don't make the laptop sleep if you're leaving it off overnight as it uses connected standby which reduces battery runtime significantly. Shutting it down should not consume battery of only 1% of the battery.

Hello I recently bout a thinkpad yoga all the way from america, so it came with an american charger, to which I luckily had a converter. It works, but it takes FOR EVER to charge compared to how long it takes to run out of charge.. this is without a doubt going to be a problem, is there any chance that the converter may be slow? or is it possible that buying a european version of the charger might help if they exist? much thanks, please help me Im clueless... thanks

Answer:Thinkpad yoga battery life

I have not seen a laptop made in the last 10 years, maybe much more, that can't run off any of the major power formats (110 to 240V 50 to 60hz) in the world and they should be able to do so with no loss of charging capacity.  This is certainly true of my thinkpad. There is no converter required, only a plug adapter which simply conects metal pins of different shapes together.   If you are just using a plug adapter, as you should be, then the voltage difference is not your problem.

Yoga 13 has a 4-cell 54Wh 3700 mAh battery. Mine laptop is less than 3 months old, and it never ever was working without a power supply more than 3 hours and 30 minutes. Usually I set the "Balanced" plan, as I'm only browsing and developing some web staff. No porn, no games. Tell me please, how can it work "up to 8 hrs"?Is 3 1/2 hrs instead of 8 a reason to return the device?

Answer:Yoga 13 battery life 3 hours

On my Yoga 2 13, I use the Power Saver power option.  This forces passive cooling and uses CPU throttling.  You can tell because the cooling fan rarely kicks on.  I also turned off the auto brightness feature.  I keep the brightness at less than 50 percent.  My CPU usage at idle sits at about 1 percent except when the antimalware process is running.  I disabled a few tasks to cut the CPU usage. This may or may not be possible for your Yoga 13 but my Yoga 2 13 came with a 500GB SSHD and an empty M.2 SSD slot.   I put a Crucial M550 M.2 type 2280 128GB SSD card in that slot and cloned the HD to the SSD drive.  It now boots from the SSD and gives me an additional hour of light usage plus I see a max 550MB/sec read speed and a max 370MB/sec write speed.

Answer:Yoga 2 11 Running hot with short battery life

Hi David_EMG  ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It would help if you can generate a battery report ( ac charger unplugged).
How is the battery health if you hover the cursor on the battery icon below?

Battery is a consumable part and depletes its resources in time and heat is one of the factors that can affect battery life. Try running hardware diagnostics along side with this and this test for comparison.

Check the battery status LED indicator (page29) if it goes to the changes from amber blinking to solid white on full charge .  Calibration either using the energy manager via battery gauge reset can also help. Manually you can allow the battery to completely drain and wait for 1-2 hours and then charge it full.

Update us how things go.

Regards

When I did an update, I noticed that my power options changed. I don't remember what the options were before, but now they are "balanced" and "power saver." With power saver selected, my computer is dead by morning. Does anyone know why there is such a drastic change in battery life after the update?

The launch of the Haswell 11S seems to have gone largely under the radar; as far as I can tell, the units are still only available from Best Buy, and not the Lenovo website. I recently got a Yoga 11, which has great battery life and a near identical design, but is crippled by Windows RT and relatively slow performance. I like the Yoga 11, but am considering returning it for a Haswell 11S, so I can have full Windows 8.1 and better processing speeds. My concern is that I'll still be giving up a lot of battery life, but I can't find any online estimations of battery life differences between the 11S (approximately 6-7 hours) and the new Haswell version. Since battery life was the main point of the Haswell processor, I'd presume it would be higher. Those of you with Haswell 11S, do you notice significantly greater battery life?

Answer:Yoga 11S Haswell owners, how's your battery life?

It did go largely under the radar which is unfortunate because its a pretty extraordinary machine for $799.  The battery was easily in the > 8 hr range without the sacrifices on an anemic processor and Win RT.  Not sure why it doens't get more press.

Hi all, so I am finally about to replace my Yoga 2 Pro. One of my main requirements is battery life for trans atlantic flights. I was initially looking at the 710 15 inch which seems to be getting good battery life, although reviews of the revised Kaby Lake are hard to find. Now with the 910 released, I am also looking at that model. Concerns with both models, the Best Buy versions that have 16gb of the 710 15 inch and 910 both have QHD screens which I am assuming hit the battery for around an hour of battery life vs. the FHD versions. Also the 710 FHD model in Best Buy is the i5 version (I am thinking I could drop an extra 8gb of memory into that revision as I believe there is a free memory slot available?) and so I am wondering would I really see much of a difference in the i5 vs i7, I do not do any HD encoding etc, the most taxing activity would be World of Warcarft which I think should run fine on either at reduced resolution.Last question, on the 710, is the SSD sata or PCIe? Again battery life is a concern, main usage for flights will be watching local video content, both 1080p and 720p. Thoughts?Patrick

Hello, Potential Yoga 2 Pro buyer here. I've seen a ton of reviews for the Y2P but they were done well over 6 months ago. I was curious if there was any 'refresh' to the recent builds going out and if anyone had reported any better battery life with the newer builds shipping out? Also, if you're aware of an upcoming change to the Y2P, I would be interested in knowing that as well.

Answer:Battery life any better with latest Yoga 2 Pro (June and later)?

There is a refresh with better processor and an AC card. I got a replacement unit a few weeks ago to replace my Nov unit that was hell. This unit seems to be better built, driver-wise.

Just bought a new Yoga 900 and charged it up.  Not only has never come close to 10 hours of battery life, but after 2 hours, dropped down to 17%,saying 3 hours 54 minutes left, then few minutes later said 15% with 1 hr 15 minutes left, and now 15" later downn to 9%.  What's happening?

I'm trying to work out which X1 Yoga to get. I'm set on the i5 as it's quieter and has longer battery life, with only a minor reduction in performance. notebookcheck.net has a similar battery life for the two WQHD i7 models (IPS/OLED). I was wondering if it's the same deal with the i5 - does anyone have the i5 with OLED? If so, how's battery life?

Hi everyone, I recently noticed that the battery life of my Thinkpad Yoga 12 has drastically decreased since I bought it two months ago. In the beginning I could get 5 hours of battery easily. Now it's down to 2 hours - in normal office mode. The long battery life was one of the reasons why I bought it initially - and now it's failing me. I don't recall having done anything to the battery, hence I am totally clueless as to why the battery life has decreased so severely. Any suggestions and help highly appreciated. Thank you,Kai

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 12: Battery life down down to 2 hrs after just 2 months

Find or install the app Lenovo Settings.

Go to Lenovo Settings > Home > Power > click on "Show details"

You will see there the Full Charge Capacity and the Designed Capacity. Tell me these numbers. If these numbers differ a lot your battery was corrupted due to aging related stress or other problems.

You can also try Lenovo Settings > Home > Power > Battery Gauge Reset to try to reset the way your computer measures full capacity, but if you experience 2 hours only this wont help.

How is your battery life? I am getting about 4-5 hours of battery life from full charge with medium brightness and full time connection to WIFI. I only use this device for school work and it is not demanding work. Just Microsoft Office Suit with Chrome Browser with multibe tabs open.

Which model do you have? ThinkPad Yoga 12 2015? Or 2014 model? If it's just new it's possible that it's still updating and indexing files and email, which will drain the battery pretty quick.

Answer:Yoga 900 screen resolution battery life

Hi tuhin,

Greetings.

I think it would be hard to get a measured evaluation of battery life with lower resolution setting since difference most likely is unremarkable and depends on usage to be definitive for entire battery life duration (1-2 years).

LCD pixels would still be illuminated no matter what detailed rendering is used. What may affect most are heavy graphics that can decrease power draw on GPU/CPU that may lessen in lower resolution. This is actually still unremarkable as compared to decreasing the brightness to 80% and more on 50% that will sure help.

Heat is still one of the major contributors to decrease battery life. Proper battery maintenance would still be the best to prolong the life of a consumable part.

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards

Hello, Just got an S1 Yoga last week, after having read that one of the best things was its battery life of around 8hours, and I just noticed today, when using it in Energy saving mode mainly for surfing the net, that it's displaying 48% of battery available (around 2 more hours of usage) after 1.5hours or so? ie, that'd be less than 4h just for surfing on Energy saving mode... Is this normal? or could the battery be faulty? Any idea how to determine whether it's faulty or not with Lenovo warranty team? Many thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga S1 - what is its normal battery life?

I have quite similar results. Yesterday I was only watching movies for about 5h from 100% to 9% battery life with airplane mode and lowest screen brightness.

Hi guys, I've had my Yoga 900 since December 2015 and I enjoy this ultrabook.  I am concerned about the battery life though. The specs say up to 9 hours of battery life, but based on my usage I would have to say that I am only confident of 6 hours worth of charge. My typical use is as follows: 1) Approximately 75% screen brightness (225 nits)2) Combo of WiFi with multiple Google Chrome tabs open, video and music usage mixed in my typical day. Those of you with the Yoga 900, would you say that this is normal or typical? Thanks, Nik

Last week my laptop was able to get through a 6 and a half hour school day and still have a little charge left over--I could still work on it for another half hour or so when I got home. Yesterday, it died at the end of my first two classes, and that's only about three and a half hours. For my last and longest class, I had to borrow paper for notes. I hadn't even opened my laptop before I got to school. Looking at a full charge now, it says it's only good for 3 hours and 20 minutes.I have no idea what's changed from last week to this one. I haven't installed any updates, and I don't use any programs that eat up a lot of CPU, especially during class. If there's anything different, the fan has been louder than usual. Can anybody shed some light on what might've happened? Edit: some useful information I forgot to add is that this laptop is less than a year old. The battery is much too young to be degrading this quickly.

Answer:My new ThinkPad Yoga comes with 3 power-saving modes. Which gives best battery life?

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

A power plan contains both the hardware and system settings that influence your computer?s power management. The main changes made by Windows when selecting a power plan are regarding the screen brightness, the time until the display is dimmed and then turn off, and the time until your computer is put to sleep. These changes are also different depending on whether your computer is using the battery or it is plugged in to a power supply.

The ?Power Saver? and ?Energy saver? plan significantly reduces your processor?s clock speed and display brightness with the intention of increasing battery life. ?High Performance? sets clock speed to its maximum value and screen brightness to maximum level but it reduces the battery backup. ?Balanced? changes the clock speed based on demand by your running applications, with an optimal drain of battery.

You can also create custom power plans depending on your requirement within Windows. Usually, power saver mode is preferred while on battery to extend the battery runtime.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

So I haven't used my laptop for a week or so, and when I started it up a few days ago, the battery life turned from a solid 7+ hours to a mere 4 hours! I actually timed how long it took before the battery went down by 1% before this happened, so I did the same test after. When I tested it, for the first time, the battery went down 1% after 270 seconds(almost 5 minutes). Now it seems to lose the same amount of battery in a weak 140 seconds(just a little bit more than 2 minutes!). Can someone please help me find the cause and if I can fix it? I loved this laptop because of its excellent battery life.

Hi. I'm not sure where exactly to post about the yoga line, but I guess I'll try here.  Basically I got this comp about 5 days ago and I like it, but its not completely what I want.   The fan noise is  bit jarring and theres also a high frequency whine which is pretty irritating.  I would like to return it and get something different.  I would be willing to accept a lenovo credit to buy a different lenovo product because my main desire is simply to get a full refund without the 15% restocking fee.  Is this possible?   The issues:  The advertised battery life is somewhere around 6 hours but I have found that even turning the brightness all the way down only gives about 3.5 hours.  Is this reason enough to demand a refund?  or can they still screw me with the 15% restocking fee?  Beyond that the frequency whine which I guess comes from the cpu and a coil or something is pretty bad.  I decided I would rather wait and get a yoga pro 2 (or a different lenovo product) which hopefully won't have this issue which is why I would be open to a lenovo credit instead of a full refund.   Thanks for any ideas, love this comp, I just wish it functioned as... advertised?  cheers

Answer:Yoga 11s issues. Battery Life + Return policy? Full refund without 15% restocking fee?

Fan noise is very normal, certainly for their small size. The smaller the fan, the more noise they make. I have built several computers before. 80mm fans made considerable more noise compared to 120mm at the same rotating speed. Have you checked for a BIOS update? It removed most of the fan noise for me.Depends on how long you own the Yoga 11S. I say take 1-2 hours down from advertised battery life. That would be your maximum. Note that the advertised battery life is saying: "up to # hours!".I think your battery life is fine.

Answer:How much different is battery life on Yoga 13 w/ Core i5 vs. Core i7?

hi SimFlyer,

The Lenovo Yoga 13 with Core i5-3317U / Core i7-3517U both uses the same LCD type  video card, and a Lithium Polymer, 4-cell, 54Wh / 3700mAh which can last up to 8hrs. Although the Core i7 runs at 1.9Ghz and the Core i5 runs on 1.7Ghz, both CPU runs at max TDP of 17W so battery life on both CPU's are negligible..

Hope this helps.

Hi, I have had my T430 since August of 2012 at the start of college. I am currently running windows 8.1 pro and I recently just noticed my battery life issues and after installing lenovo settings I discovered that my battery's capacity is at 27% of the original capacity. The battery life is really bad, e.g. it says 15 minutes remaining at 25% on POWER SAVER mode.  I have google this and it said to "reset my battery" but unfortunately 8.1 Lenovo power manager doesn't have that feature.  I am just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for what to do?  Will I just have to get a new battery?

you would have to have a pre-Windows 8 OS to gain that crucial battery reset function. This is one reason why i dislike running Win 8 on ThinkPad.

To all owners of X1 Carbon 2017 (5th gen).I read all of those reviews where people are impressed by 10+ hours of battery life (15,5h advertised), but I can't really figure out how....!? First time I tested was a normal working day - Firefox (a lot of Flash it must be said), Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat. Nothing really heavy, no peripherals except Bluetooth mouse. Brightness dimmed 1 level below the ideal. It lasted for about 4 hours! I windows's list of apps affecting battery life, Firefox was on 1st place with 32-35% Second attempt - same set of tasks, however less Firefox (no flash) - 7 hours. Now in the middle of a 3rd attempt (using Opera this time) - battery time remaining indication goes over 10h only when I completely stop using the laptop Not many apps running in the background either (Dropbox, Skype...) So my question - do you guys get more than 10h of battery life and HOW? Do you enable "Battery Stretch"? How actively do you use it and for what?

I have a Acer Aspire V5 laptop. When I was running Win 8.1, the battery life wasn't great, but lasted about 2 1/2 - 3 hours.
Now that I upgraded to Windows 10, the last time I turned it on the battery meter said 52 %. Two minutes later, it was dead.
I just turned it on after charging it, and the meter read 98%, 1 hr 50 min remaining. I haven't touched it yet, and five minutes later the battery's down to 90 %, although it says that there's 3 hr 5 min remaining. When I do any work on it, the battery goes down drastically. Does this have anything to do with Windows 10?

Preface... (and yes, this is one of my infamous "Megaposts" and this one might be in several parts, so, bear with me and get edjumicated...

I found that link about this "new" power configuration diagnostic in Windows 7 and posted it in the other thread, but as it'll get buried in the muck soon enough, and considering just how vital this specific tool could turn out to be in terms of maximizing the potential battery life/run-time of laptops and notebooks (and Tablet PCs too) that will use Windows, I figured this specific topic is very deserving of its own thread, so here it is.

What I'm hoping this thread will be about is related to a diagnostic tool that, until recently, has been relatively unknown (and I admit I just discovered info about it last week myself, so I'm cobbling together a bunch of information from a variety of sources, several being Microsoft and blogs from MSDN folk, and some Windows 7 developers also, and putting it in this one post/thread.

Hopefully there will be some intelligent discussion as time goes by as the more I do research on this the more I realize it could very well be one of the coolest things - and gain one of the most vital aspects - about Windows 7.

So let's get this thing started... who knows, maybe this'll get stickied like some other stuff I've written about... if people deem it valuable, by all means, tell the Admins/Mods and point people to it as needed.

I know this is an advertised benefit of Windows 7, but now I can testify first-hand to the better battery life. I bought a laptop with Vista on it, and upgraded it to 7 today. I charged the battery before installing, and unplugged it soon after it started installing.

I haven't plugged it in yet. I have been using it for about 2.5 hours now, and the battery is at 73%.

Granted, it is a very good battery, but if this had been Vista, it would be at about 20% by now.

Windows 7 is a great OS, isn't it?

Answer:Windows 7 and battery life

Hi Jonathan,

I think most Members would agree that Windows 7 wins hands down over Vista. I think that it is true that Vista should have never been marketed, in so many ways it was not ready. Windows 7, is basically Vista under the hood with additional features and benefits that should have been claimed by Vista. Your battery experience, for one, security, aero, driver availablity to mention just a few. Enjoy your new computer, Jonathan, and keep busy on the keyboard, helping us at the Forum.

I, like many others, had Windows 10 installed automatically when I wasn't home. I'm not necessarily opposed to this except that it has OBLITERATED my battery life. As an ultrabook user, I primarily own my Lenovo T431s because it can last me days at a time, or at least one day of heavy usage (8+ hours). However, I noticed that since Windows 10 was introduced my usage time is not nearly the same. Just listening to music will result in 1-2 hours at best, even with dim settings. I have to count the minutes every time I take my laptop off the charger.
I've read that MS is working on optimizing performance, but this is beyond optimization -- something must be actively draining the machine. Any thoughts?

Answer:Windows 10 Destroyed my Battery Life

Hello oobio

Welcome to tenForums!

To investigate your battery usage please have a look at the following tutorial and work through the steps:

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3...dows-10-a.html

Then you should also run the power efficiency report:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5...dows-10-a.html

Looking through these reports will help you identify at what times in the day the battery was drained the most, hopefully you can relate it to what you were doing. You may also find there are a number of settings you can tweak to improve battery performance based on the analysis.

I would like to get a Windows 10 tablet (keyboard optional) with battery life being the highest priority. I currently have a Lenovo ThinkPad 8 on Windows 10. It's a terrific device, but it can only run for about 2-3 hours before a very long charging period.
The iPad is my gold standard tablet, being able to last for weeks on standby. Is there anything in the Windows category that's comparable?

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Laptop battery not charging, battery not identified, 0% battery life

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.

Ever since I installed windows 10 on my surface pro 3 the batter life dropped from 5-6 hrs 1 - 2 hrs I did a clean install 3 times but this doesn't help. The tackpad has an issue too. I turned off the allow right click but it doesn't work.t I tried going back to windows 8.1, but they some how block user to download apps from store I always get an error "this app wasn't installed" I tried all possible solutions but no luck. The onenote app for windows 10 sucks too I hate windows 10 :(
Note: I always put on battery saver even on 100% charge.
And the Cortana is disabled too

Answer:Windows 10 sucks my battery life, how can I stop this?

Try taking it to a Microsoft store, fully charged. Turn it on and show them the battery drop. If it's only lasting 1-2 hours, let's use 2 hours as a conservative number, then it's dropping 0.83% per minute. Just run something normal for the tech guy for 5 mins, and show him it's dropping nearly 5%. If they want you to hard reset it - then offer to perform the reset right there in the store (plug into their bar with your adapter). It only takes 30-60 mins to do so. Then show how that does NOT solve the problem.
Then ask for a replacement SP3 (they now come preloaded with Windows 10). Hopefully you have Microsoft Complete. :-)
BTW - my SP3 upgraded to 10 and has been great so far. I can run it nearly all day on battery. I usually have about 40% left after 6 hours.

I just installed windows 7 on a laptop (around a year and a half old) which with windows vista got around an hour and a half, which was perfect for me (about a lecture's worth of battery), the battery life dropped to about half an hour and the indicator was telling me that there was something wrong with the battery, giving a 'consider replacing the battery' message.

I wonder if it is a genuine problem, or just a software issue (MS deny any problems, but tbh I'm not so sure). I haven't tried anything else, like a linux distro or something, but I wondered if something like that would show up any problems if they existed?

Answer:Windows 7 install battery life indicator

Have you tried adjusting the power settings? Make sure they are not set for performance?

I am getting extremely poor battery life after I recently upgraded my operating system from windows 7 to windows 8.  I am getting atmost 3.5 hours now.  What is even more strange is that at about 30-45% battery it immediately drops to 6% and I get a warning that my battery is at a critical level.  I have updated the BIOS but I am still getting this issue.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:W530 bad battery life after upgrading to windows 8

Update all of your drivers using System Update. Use the NVIDIA Control Panel to make sure the discrete GPU isn't active when you don't need it to be.Also run a battery reset overnight to recalibrate the battery gauge.

Hi, I have a Z580 ideapad (i3), since I upgraded my computer with windows 8 pro, the battery life is about 2 hours only:  Power saver mode + brightness 50% + Nvidia card is off (instead of + than 4h  with Win 7). And since that time, the fan is always on and the fan control button is not working. All the driver are up to date, i have the last "lenovo battery manager" installed. Do you know if a fix or a bios update is available for this computer?  Thanks in advance! JC

Answer:Z580 with windows 8: very poor battery life

Hi sika95Actually the lenovo battery manager of windows 8 is bugged and doesn't allow some features to work. This is being discussed herehttp://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Z570-Lenovo-Energy-Management-for-Windows-8...The temporary fix is to use the windows 7 lenovo power manager. You can download it from the driver page.Regards

Hi guys! New happy owner of lenovo hardware. Just wondering if other community members have noticed significant battery life loss after an upgrade to windows 8? I've tried updating drivers, some were unnecessary, and reducing to pwer saver mode. Also, as I am new to nvidia switching graphics, should i keep my unit plugged to enjoy full graphics power during game play or will an nvidia setting switch do? Forgive my ignorance and thanks a lot!

Hi all, A few months ago I installed Windows 8.1 on my T400 (Type 6475) and ever since have experienced abysmal battery life. I have a 9 cell battery in good condition that gave me at least 5 hours of moderate usage when I was running Windows 7 on this machine. Now I'm lucky to get an hour running Windows 8.1 which just isn't really viable. I've checked the battery on my backup T61 running Windows 7 and still achive perfectly acceptable lifespan with that  - so the battery's not the problem. This is my second clean reinstall of Windows 8.1. I've checked all of my drivers are up to date and are Windows 8.1 versions where they exist. My T400 doesn't have switchable graphics so I don't think it's that causing the issue. Bluetooth is off. I've got Power Manager 6.32 installed and working flawlessly. All settings are as they were when I was running Windows 7 (optimised for battery life when off of AC). Before I give up on Windows 8.1 and return to Windows 7 is there anything else I've missed? Is there any way I can check what's using the battery? I'm not a massive tech-head so be gentle if possible... Thanks in advance!

Answer:Sub 1 hour battery life (9 cell) on Windows 8.1

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that you are getting a poor battery backup in your Lenovo ThinkPad T400 after upgrading to Windows 8.1.

May I know which power plan you are using in your system?
What Lenovo software dependency package is installed?
Have you updated all the Lenovo resources (firmware, BIOS, drivers, software)?

Refer this document and see if it helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Greetings,
Somebody please help me! I just upgraded my laptop from windows 8.1 to windows 10 last tuesday. My laptop is Asus X555LB-XX198H(i75500U,8GB RAM,2GM VRAM, 1TB HDD). When my battery life is 10% my pc slow down dramatically & when I checked the computer frequency in the task manager it is in 0.48GHz it's not going up or down either. I don't know if it is the battery saver of the win10 problem or not. I already tried changing my battery power from balanced to high performance but it doesn't help. In the 10% battery life of my laptop my mouse cursor hardly move and the files and this laptop seems to move at slow motion. Please help me solve this problem.

Here pic of evidence.

Answer:extend battery life after windows 10 upgrade

Bring up the old Power Options and check to see if anything is set to use more power than you'd expect, especially the processor. For best battery life it should be set to slow down when not in use.

I installed Windows 8 on my Dell XPS M1530 (It's pretty old; about 5 years) and ever since the battery life on this thing has plummeted. It was never amazing, but I have the extended battery and would get at least an hour to two hours of light web usage before it died. Now, it lasts 20 minutes, tops. Why has Windows 8 killed my battery performance?

Answer:Windows 8 KILLED laptop battery life

What did you have installed on the laptop before Windows 8.

Sounds like it may be a driver issue with the battery.

Hi, Lenovo U310 - i5 - Windows 8 A week ago I upgraded from W7 to W8.In its W7 period batterylife was quite according to expectations - 5 hours with connected external drive, USB printer/scanner, second 22" screen - but since I switched to W8 batterylife barely reached 3 hours. Can anybody explain this and can I expect another firmware update where these W8 issues will be solved? Thanks in advance Grtz,Jim
