Keyboard question on Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro

Question: Keyboard question on Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro

Hey people, Just picked up a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro. Awesome piece of machinery. Silly question tho about the keyboard. A lot of the keys seem to have 4/5 different things on it. For instance I have a 2 @ @ " all on the same key. How do i access them. I've tried ctrl, shift, alt etc but doesn't seem to work and there's nothing in the guide either. Silly question i know but this is the first time i've seen this. Thanks you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Not so on mine (bought in Richmond, VA, US). Could be an international thing?

Hi! I've got Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 Silver (https://www.alza.cz/EN/lenovo-ideapad-yoga-13-silver-d375124.htm), and while I am quite content with the device, my keyboard stopped working. I was wondering whether any of you might know and suggest an online reseller (official or otherwise), where I could get hold of a replacement keyboard. Now, I suppose backlit keyboard versions of newer Yoga laptops will not work I guess, will they? From what I have read Yoga 13 Silver does not have the slot required for backlit, but aside that, will the keyboard function and will it fit (dimension-wise)? If so, what is the voltage and current required? Would soldering a small battery to the backlit cable be a good idea (I accept the fact that I wouldn't be able to regulate it)? Thank you in advance!ck

Hello, I would like to know if it would be possible to install Yoga 2 Pro keyboard on Yoga 13 machine? It looks to be the same size and layout, so I am wondering if it work if I switched them. Thanks in advance for help.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Keyboard on Yoga 13

I would liketo know the same thing. the Yoga 13 has a light on the caps lock key so there is potentially back light voltage. The key boards look identical. If they are interchangeable how would the Fn keyboard light switch be programmed? I love my Yoga. I just added an 8 gig Ram stick and a 240 GB hard drive. Keyboard replacement is a piece of cake with an eyephone glass repair tool kit.

I recently ordered a Yoga 710 11 inch 2-in-1. I just read that the keyboard has been changed so that where the "SHIFT" key has been for 100 years on the right side of the keyboard, the page up and down keys  now are and it's extremely difficult to type? Is this true that they keys were moved to a non-standard configuration different from all computer keyboards?

Hi CGB1471 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As same from all other reviews : "the right shift key has been shrunk down to fit" .
Similar discussion here and here about the same topic as users have success on using keytweak to remap it as a workaround specially for those that was accustomed using the right shift for speed typing.

Hope this help answer your query.

Answer:Keyboard problem on Lenovo Yoga 2 13

hi mudi1997,

Thanks for Posting!

There aint a feature that changes the sensitivy of  the Keyboard, It is plain mechanical when pressing a key.
Try checking if there is a dirt or any foreign things under the key,
If non, Then it might be that the O key is not properly attached, If you are not comfortable reseating the Key, You should Call Lenovo Technical Team for assistance.

I have a device manager device warning for the Lenovo Virtual Keyboard. The manager says the driver is corrupted and will not load. Everything seems to work. The touchscreen keyboard comes up when I ask from the lower taskbar.  It sometimes comes up on some web sites and some entry areas. I have no problem with how it works right now. The device manager should not have a device that is not loading or have a driver that is corrupt.

I would like to use the numeric keyboard on the lenovo yoga 2 pro. It is ok if I have to activate via a numlock option. At the moment I just don't manage to find the settings. Is there such an option on the yoga 2 pro? If not, what would be the best work around? I do not like to use the touchscreen option as it blocks a significant part of the screen, and makes me a lot slower. Thank you for your help!

Answer:Numeric keyboard lenovo yoga 2 pro

There's no numeric keypad built into the Yoga's keyboard, even through some alt-combination. However, you could use a keyboard macro utility like AutoHotKey to remap the appropriate keys. I'd recommend a visit to your local (or favorite online) office or computer store for an inexpensive USB or bluetooth numeric keypad. I use one when performing data entry, finding it easier to have all keys in the expected spots, and being able to position it to where it's most comfortable for me.

Purchased lenovo 900 series notebook four months back and it was normal untill three weeks when a new update for windows 10 came in. After the new update, whenever I pressed any function key(pressing fn key and button f9) for say send receive emails in outlook or even function f5 for refresh in chrome, entire keyboard stops working. I have to restart the laptop everytime this happens. Then the keyboard works until I press any function combo keys.  I resinatlled the keyboard drivers and updated it. Still it is not working. Then I installed the lenovo vantage app, tried changing hot keys to straight function keys, even then the keuboard stops working and I had to do the reboot stuff. Is there a solution to this problem? what is the issue? as it happened from windows update, am doubting whether this is the update issue or is it the keys are making the entire keyboard locking.... seriously am not able to comprehend the root cause. Can someone guide me

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500 keyboard and mousepad not working?

Hi hunky, Welcome to community forums. Have you made any changes recently on your computer? Are all the buttons on the keyboard not working? Here are the things that you can try.? Press NOVO button, you'll see there 4 options (Normal Startup, BIOS Setup, Boot Menu, System Recovery)? Try to use the Arrow Keys on the keyboard, check if it works.? If the Arrow Keys works select System Recovery.? Once you're there check if the touchpad scroll is still working. If it is working outside OS, but it's not working inside OS. I recommend doing BIOS reset.? Press NOVO button, go to BIOS setup? Press F9 (Load optimal defaults), then F10 (Save changes and exit) Check if everything is working. Hope this helps!

Would you have the Machine Number from the sticker label , or try getting it from here .

Based on the ideapad 500S-14ISK Platform Specifications :
Keyboard : 6-row, multimedia Fn keys, optional backlight

Fn + Space (on select models): Adjusts the keyboard backlight (off ? dim ? bright ? off)

Update us with the Machine number to check further.

My keyboard stopped suddenly working. First the mousepad froze and when I got it working I realized that the keyboard isn't working. When I try to click anywhere it immediately starts typing "zzzzzzz..." and won't stop. I am currently using my laptop in tablet mode. I was able to type a, q and 1 when holding down the letter z, but I updated the bios and now nothing works (I was previously also able to 'disable' the letter z, when holding it down with the buttons next to it). Could it be possible to fix the problem or should I give up and take it to repairs?

Hi, I just bought this laptop 2 days ago, and i really am impressed with how it performs. The only problem i've incountered earlier this morning is that some of the keys in the keyboard didn't work (the P,Z,C keys). I left it on sleep the night before.  After i restarted and remove my mouse from the laptop, it suddenly works again. My question is, is this showing some sign of malfunctioning keyboard? I don't want to always have to restart my laptop and doing all the steps above. Any advice?

While I love the tablet, I am currently experiencing keyboard issues. When I pressY key or the number 6 I get the number y and 6 (y6)T key or the number 5 I get the number t and 5 (t5)Hyphen '-' key or the left square bracket '[' I get left square bracket and hyphen ( [- )Equals '=' key or the right square bracket ']' I get right square bracket and equals ( ]= ) Output in parenthesis   The caps lock button works, but it also mutes the sound on the device. The mute key works, but also puts the keyboard in caps lock. The backspace button does not delete any previous text - it takes me to the Windows Lock Screen. A few days ago my keyboard stated to act weird. For starters, when the Cap Locks is off, the letter are Capital. And when the Caps Lock is on, lower case letter appears. In addition, the bottom row of keys (shift,z,x,c,v,b,...and so on) sometimes work and sometimes do not. When typing numbers for example , the keyword thinks the shift key is on.  I'm not sure if this was due to a Windows 10 update or something else. Nonetheless, 'i've tried multiple  oneline solutions only to be met with negative results. Is there anyone else experiencing the same problems i have?

So I accidently spilled a bit of gatoraid on my keyboard yesterday. About 4 of my keys are now sticky, and most annoyingly the space bar is also. I was wondering if anyone has tried to remove keys and clean under them before. I've seen here that on the old Yoga attaching the keys back on but not removing them.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNy36-wXkEYWhich leads me to belive if I pull off the spacebar i'll probably end up breaking the underlying components. I figured the yoga 2 pros keyboard might be attached in a similar fashion to a mac book pro shown here.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kh88cn_rtLoYou can see he just lifts the keys and is able to pop them off but I have no idea if the yogas keyboard is of the same type. If i ripped off the spacebar, would it be possibe for me to buy the plastic attachments if the broke underneath?

I have a Lenovo Yoga 700 14ISK (ideapad) with Windows 10 64bit, whose keyboard and touchpad are refusing to work.Everything else seems to be running smoothly except for these. I initially was getting by via the on screen keyboard until I began borrowing an external wireless one. The following is what I knowReset to factory settings did not work.Optimizing OS in BIOS is enabled already (enabling this was suggested by Lenovo Support)THE ARROW KEYS WORK IN BIOS (??!???!?)An external keyboard works (I have used two different Logitech keyboards and both work)Before I sign in, FN+Space seems to work thus (re)activating my backlight. Once I sign in, it stops working. There's no updates for the keyboard driver.I have already tried to uninstall the driver, restart the laptop, and allow it to reinstall the driver.Disabling ymc did not help.F6 does not re-enable the touchpad.I tried a couple button combinations I've seen around for people disabling/enabling keyboards, but none worked. (Willing to try more though!!!) Any ideas? I thought it may be a hardware problem, but since the arrow keys work in BIOS; I'm not confident that this is the case.

Hi there
I was wondering if it is possible to buy or replace the lenovo yoga 13" keyboard with another Yoga 13 keyboard or any other keyboard that is compatible with the yoga
I picked up the system from a local bestbuy a few months ago, and to my surprise it came with a european keyboard layout instead of a standard american one meaning that both of my shift keys are half size. Normally this wouldnt be much of a problem but I'm noticing I'm missing quite a few of my shift presses due to the small layout

Hello,I am from Croatia and I purchased a Lenovo Yoga 2 13 Laptop in 2015. After few months of owning it, I spilled a drink and the keyboard broke. I immediately contancted the lenovo authorized support in Croatia and they told me they can order the required upper case part and replace it. The laptop was in their office for 4 months, during which they couldn't order the part. I canceled the service and then tried the next year, and they said it is not available.I tried contacting them again, before few days, and after waiting for their response, they told me that the part is no longer available through the "Lenovo Service Canal".  Does that mean I have no chance of ever repairing my keyboard unless I take it off a used laptop? The serial number of the laptop: CB34360394,required part:  90205188_S, ZIVY0 Upper Case BK W/KB-SLVN.The image attached is one of plenty images I received from the authorised support.

Hello. I from Belarus and sorry for my bad English.I write in this forum because our support couldn't help me. So, I bought a yoga in February. This lapton is wonderful. I choice it for a very long time because for me it was a very important and expensive thing. But.. in april this happened. At first everything was invisible, but every day more and more.I'm studying for a programmer and for me it was unpleasant. Most of all it was a pity that I chose the laptop because of the convenient keyboard. I writing in support, but they said, that I'm need to go to the service center. But he is 400 km away from me. They said, that I need to wait for evaluation and repair time. I can not afford it financially. Now I looked through many forums, this problem turned out only for me. It's very insulting.I know that you do not do such trifles. Just you last chance not to be disappointed in the purchase. Help me please. Thank you for attention!

Hi, in tablet mode on the Yoga 900, the keyboard is split and I'm trying to figure out how set it so it isn't split.  There is a button in the bottom right corner of the right side of the keyboard that looks like a keypad, but nothing happens when I touch it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So I was using my Lenovo Yoga 2 laptop for a study session. My keyboard was working fine the last time I used it, which was like ten minutes before it stopped working. Nothing on my keyboard is working, including the F controls/shortcuts. The ThinkPad is working normally and so is its corresponding right/left keys. The screen is also fine and the touch screen keyboard is working as well. My laptop isn't in tablet mode or any other mode other than laptop mode.  So basically, has anyone else had this problem and possibly share their wisdom. Also, if there are basic shortcuts that simply turn off your keyboard and can turnit back on, it'd be quite helpful, because there could be a simple fix but I wouldn't be aware since I am not very tech savvy.  Thank you so much!

The key response time on the physical keyboard is delayed. You have to press the key and hold until it types in the letter you want making typing a very slow process.

Hi! I bought this one 2  days ago and I'm amazed how bad the keyboard is. Just check the video:https://youtu.be/n4oN6H3x2nQThe keyboard actually doesn't match the photos: enter key is weird form and there are two \ keys. Space key sticks depending on which part of it you click. It also makes a weird noise. Definitely not the quality you expect from a premium model. I would actually be happy to return it, but I'm in another country for a while so looks like I'm in trouble. This is the second Yoga I have, but seems that I will never buy a Lenovo again.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 710 - the worse laptop keyboard ever

Yeah, you see a lot of complaings about those keyboards, they are trying to make them too thin in you ask me. I would return it if you do not like it, even if you have to pay shipping.   The Thinkpad line have much better keyboards, and in my opionion are far more durable too.  Good Luck,

I have a Yoga 700-11ISK, and would frequently put it to sleep, put it in my backpack, & pull it out hours later to find it RED hot & the battery 90% drained.  After wasting an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out why it kept doing this (and damaging other items in my backpack due to the extreme heat), I came across this thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/25982/page/2 The problem is that the keyboard remains active even when the lid is closed, so if it gets squeezed in such a way that the screen internally presses a key, it will silently wake itself up.  Apparently Lenovo has spent the past four years churning out laptop after laptop that suffer from this defect, never thinking to learn from their mistakes.  Here are more:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-900-keyboard-wakes-laptop-from-sleep/...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Return-of-the-wake-while-lid-closed-proble...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/35267/page/6 I've tried the hack/script solution proposed in the first thread, but it doesn't work (the keyboard can't be disabled by DevManView without a reboot).  The other threads apply to the Yoga 900, which I guess Lenovo fixed with a BIOS update. This issue is such a problem that I've literally stopped carrying the laptop around...which was th... Hello, I bought my first lenovo computer and already ran in a few issues which I fixed after sometime except one that I cannot find anywhere. When I press a button on keyboard the touchpad locks for a single second and that really annoys in a graphical applications or games. I found a few posts that people fixed on older lenovos with turning off on palmsense on elan pointing device, but when I did it on the newest version it changed nothing so I decided to uninstall ELAN software completely and I got into another problem, that gestures don't work of course and now it got reversed but have the same problem still can't use them at the same time. How to fix this issue? Computer:Yoga 710  14 Lenovo i7-7500U/8GB/256GB/IntelHD 620/W10/Black

I always read the yoga 3 per rarely uses the fan, I am running the fan but permanent. even if I do not need power ...is this normal or is there a solution?

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro Fan question

Hi,

I've noticed that my Y3P fan runs a lot too - but mostly when the machine is idle.

I left task manager running to try to track down high CPU usage and in my case is was the Antimalware Service Executable which seems to be a part of  the Windows Defender malware scanner.

On my machine it only runs when I'm not doing something else.  If I do anything that process goes idle and the fan eventually stops.

You might try the same test to see if something is using a lot of CPU and creating heat.

Z.

So I should preface this by saying that I managed to fix the issue, however I thought it would be useful if this was posted so others with the same problem can potentially fix their computer. So earlier today I updated my computer to the most recent windows 10 release (version 1703). Upon updating I noticed that my keyboard seemed to be having issues. It wasn't completely non-functioning, however it seemed to be having trouble picking up some keystrokes. As far as I could tell these seemed to be random and randomly timed (roughly every 3-4th keystroke was being missed). Updating drivers and using the standard windows troubleshooter picked up nothing. However other forums noted that it could be the BIOS not being completely up to date. I tried this and it worked! This is the link I used: http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/tablets/yoga-series/yoga-book/downloads It should detect the model of laptop you use - just click on "Scan Update" and it will pick up whether you need a BIOS update - just follow the instructions from there. It is crucial though that the correct BIOS for your model is used however. Hope this helps someone!

Hey Guys So today my girlfriend bought a Lenovo Yoga 3 14" with the Geforce 940m graphics card.Straight away we notice some of the images and fonts from different applications seemed a bit to blurry for a modern computer so we decided to check through the forums and some of them said to adjust the text from its default (Larger). Then we tried minecraft and it then we notice you can not move in the game while looking. So this means that you move than use the mouse which is very annoying. Another thing we notice in the game was the computer was not using the 940m graphics card it was still using the Intel 5500 HD graphics. So my question is1. How do we stop the screen from being blurry?2. How can we move and use the trackpad?3. How do I make the Geforce GT 940m the main graphics card? Thanks in advance!

Hi, all! I'm back with another question regarding my laptop and the bar exam! I had brought the specs with me in purchasing the laptop, but apparently the Best Buy guy didn't care are the convertible note. The software for the exam (ExamSoft by SofTest) does not support convertible tablet devices (other than Surface Pro). I called to check if they considered my Lenovo Yoga 3 14 a convertible device (which seemed to be pretty much all at the store that met the other requirements) and was told that they do but the only issue is if the keyboard gets disconnected, since to fix it they take you out of the exam (and some let you back in, others don't). So my question is: has anyone ever had experience with the kayboard not working in laptop mode? Further, it seems that there may be a way to disable the automatic shutoff of the keyboard (when the laptop thinks you are in tablet mode) - can someone explain how to do this for me? I also want to shut off the touch screen for the exam, just in case any ghost touch issues arise. (I had ghost touch issues on my first one and had to get it replaced under warranty, though they then charged me extra - but that's another story!) Thanks in advance - these forums are very helpful!

My Yoga 3 Pro won't wake up from sleep / hibernation, the only sign of activity is the keyboard lights just blinking, AGAIN! :-(. This is a common problem with Yoga 2 13 models I have learnt, not only from various boards, but also my self, when I returned a yoga 2 13 after 5 days, and got the Yoga 3 Pro model. The laptop is now only 6 months old. I experienced the same wake up problems 3 weeks ago with my 3 Pro, and the shop here in Copenhagen sent it back to service. When I got it back 4 days ago, the service team had just changed "Cinch Audio" and updated the BIOS. It seems like they never really fixed the real problem. Two days ago the computer again had problems to wake up, and now it seems to be frozen in this blinking mode. I I have tried hard reboot (holding the power button for ca 20 secs), but it won't solve the problem. Has anyone experienced the same problem, and any durable solutions to it? If it stays like this, I'll hand it in, try to get it reimbursed and I will gladly buy another computer, but not from Lenovo anymore.

Hey guys sorry if this has already been posted but I haven't seen it. Anyways I have a question that my pc illiterate mind couldn't handle. When my yoga came in, my computer only has 64gb of storage (25 in and 39 in :C). The specs say the yoga has 128gb of storage. So where is the remainder of the storage? Is it being used for programs essential to the yoga, or am I somehow not utilizing all of it? I don't want to have to buy an SD card, but if I only have this much storage I'm going to have to. Thanks for help.P.s. if there is a way I can clean up some room from the factory settings can someone post a guide for me.

Hi guys I got my Lenovo Yoga 2 11" i3 since 2-3 months for my south america trip and tried now with slow internet to update all windows and lenovo drivers, I also switched some Intel power saving option in BIOS and STILL, my tablet works after a reboot at normal speed, touch keyboard works, but after 1-2 days the clock speed is stuck at 0.59GHz, no matter what I make! It's really terrible! If I reboot the machine it works fine again, at fast clock speed, otherwise it keeps super slow! Also at the login screen when I click on the password field the keyboard pops up (tablet mode) but dissappears after 1-2 tiping 1-2 letters. Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

I recently purchased the z510 laptop and I'm liking it so far. However, I'm worried about the keyboard. When I press on the keys, the keyboard goes down. I don't know if this goes for all z510 users or is it just me. The only area where the keyboard does not bend is around the O L P keys and spacebar keys. Everywhere else it bends.

Welcome in lenovo community

Actually i am not able to get a clear explanation regarding your issue , but if you mean that you can see the metallic surface that is around the keys are moving a little bit so i can say that this is something normally for all the Z series , no need to worry
