Preferred Solution: Is Yoga 500-15IBD ready for windows 10 upgrade?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am having issues with my current WIFI card not picking up a signal from any distance... and when closer, not always holding a signal.  After playing with software upgrade options, I'm considering a WIFI card upgrade, and would like advice as to the ease and value of this option.  Thank you in advance for your time and attention in reply.   Mike Luke

Hi,
I recently upgraded my Lenovo Yoga 15-IBD to an SSD, with a complete reinstall of Windows. Everything was working great; boot times were quicker and the system was far more responsive. However, the computer randomly freezes now, without any warning. I have to do a hard reset. Reliability monitor gives no clues of what the problem might be. The SSD is brand new, and passed a 'long' test this morning.

I have no idea where to go next; I seems that there is one problem after another with this laptop!

Thanks for your help!

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD Freezes Randomly after SSD Upgrade

Hi soopg.

When it freezes is there anything being logged in the event viewer? (System / Application / Other)

Have you looked at your Storage drivers. Before attempting to update please ensure you have an Image you can fall back to if required. While investigating would also be a good idea to have data backed up. You said this was a clean install so you likely have that point covered.

If you don't have a tool you could check out Macrium Reflect. Free, reliable and tutorial with forum.

You may wish to check out the Driver Verify process.

This tutorial will guide you through the verification process, heed the warnings. Assuming it fails follow the posting instruction in the BSOD section of forum.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable in Windows 10

The tutorial states make a restore point. Seems to be a lot of people having issues using restore points hence have an Image.

I recently bouht refirbished Yoga 500-15IBD, It has Intel HD 5500 and GeForce 940M. When I bought the laptop online I was under the impresion that the display is FHD. Unfortunatly the maximum resolution that I see in the Windwos 10 display settings is 1366x768. Is this a software issue or the display is not FHD? I am wondering if it is possible that seller changed the original FHD display with HD display. I can't find the full spec of the laptop. Machine Type Model: 80N600FWUK.

I bought the yoga 500-15IBD(w/i5 5200U;GT 940m and 8G of RAM) in summer of 2015. At first the notebook is doing fine. But at mid-late 2016 the notebook start acting strange, the CPU start lock the frequency at 0.44 Ghz while charging. I find out that the BD prochot is the reason and I disable it with throttlestop. Then when I start gaming for few minutes the laptop just shut down, because of overheating. So I try playing game with BD prochot on and with battery. And the gameplay become very laggy. Not like low fps, but just very laggy. I monitored the CPU and the CPU just get throttled massively frequently and the frequency just go up and down. Which never happen before, the laptop used to be at least playable with consistent (low) fps.  What should I do. Is some component damaged? Should I clean the fan (I checked the fan and it seems fine to me)? Should I charge the thermal paste?  ps I try to stress test both CPU and GPU, it's fine when doing test alone. But when testing both CPU and GPU the temp of CPU just go sky high (~100 C) and the GPU seems to be cool in terms of temperature(75 C)and than the laptop shut down. Even when testing GPU only while CPU is idle both temp got ~75 C. When doing only CPU test CPU temp ~88 C max and GPU stay at ~55 C. It seems the GPU is transfering heats to the CPU.

Answer:LENOVO Yoga 500-15IBD

Hi mariuszwol5, Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums. Based on what I've found out, seems like both models has same specs as you have mentioned. If I'm not mistaken, the difference here is that, the 80N60084PB has this FRU : 18201638, whereas, the 80N6006FPB does not. FRU : 18201638Description : LGD LP156WF4-SPL1 FHD AG S LED1 NB LCDCommodity Code :  LCD PANELS Also checking on the price of the part itself, based on ebay, it is around USD $99.00. Which as per google, 400 PLN = 98.21 USD.  Hope this helps!

Hi, I've tried looking for tech specs (I know the hardware specs) for the monitor so I can work out what pen/stylus would be best for the touch screen. However, I can not find this particular product (spec specific) on the website.  If anyone could help me out that would be great, Ideally I'd like something with pressure levels as I do digitally draw from time to time, and would be helpful whilst writing. But would settle for something that isn't due to owning a GFX tablet anyway. Also, I'm unsure if this ideapad is referred to as a 15, 500 or 8 due to not know where this terminology is based from (model name, model series ect) seems unclear, perhaps I'm just looking into it too much and it is just a 500. Thanks to anyone that spends time reading, and thanks in advance for advice. ~Kris

I bought a new Yoga 500 15IBD 2 Months ago and since a view weeks the Laptop had several power breakdowns while in battery mode. All of a sudden the Laptop turns black, all lights and the hdd turns off and I have to connect the power cord to get it started again - although the Battery certainly isn't empty according to the OS-Battery indicators AND often having the Laptop fully charged less than half an hour ago. (The Yoga runs for at least 3 hours if the bug does not appear). Now this is no driver issue, I have the problem while running Windows 10, Linux Mint and Backbox Linux. I suppose it's either a battery issue or a faulty architectual design. Since  I see a lot of similar power-off related messages accross the spectrum of lenovo devices, could someone finally publically explain the source of the problem so there is a chance to get rid of it ... especially in future products?

Answer:Yoga 500 - 15IBD - Bios update went wrong

What you can see there is a Boot menu. Your laptop can't boot from disk and display boot selection menu. Try to enter BIOS (can't say how to do it, as you didn't told which Yoga model do you have) and try to change boot settings from UEFI -> Legacy (or in other way) and/or disable Secure Boot. Check if after these changes your laptop will be able to boot.

I have a web-camera issue with my notebook. It doesn't work. It used to work once or twice. But then suddenly something went wrong. Neither works mic. When I opened my windows 10 "Camera" app it said "Can't find camera". I checked device manager for drivers issues and couldn't find anything about camera. So I added a knew device "Lenovo EasyCamera". My "Camera" app still doesn't work. So I tried to fix in with Lenovo Settings. But there is no any camera folder in it. Reinstalling still didn't fix it. Also I tried installing drivers with official Lenovo website. Still nothing.

Hi, I got a problem with my laptop. The fan is making loud noise everytime I open a new window, a new tab, any setting window and so. I believe it is supposed to make this kind of noise when I'm stressing it with more programs running, not by simply open the files explorer... Any idea on what to do? (model is Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD)ThanksNstant

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD loud fan noise

Hi Nstant,  Most probably a program or App is running at the background cause fast spinning fan to cool down CPU temp.  To figure it out, right click in your taskbar and from the opened menu click on task manager.  -From top menu click on performance tab then click on resource monitor ==> from top menu click on CPU tab and look at to the Average CPU usage and see which App or Program is using a high percentage of your CPU capacity==> right click on it and end the process.  .Regards,  **If the issue has been resolved please, mark me as solution provided to help others find the solution easily and click the Kudos.**

At first i thought its normal since it is a brand new laptop and it takes time till it adjusts but that didn`t happen. The problems are as follows: 1) The mouse coursor  and touchpad keeps on blocking regularly. I tried it also with an external mouse and I faced the same problems. 2) WIFI:  a) it keeps loosing its signal continually             b) It dissconect from the wifi almost every 30 minutes              c) Whenever i want to reconnect to the wifi it shows there are no connections available eventhough my phone and my girlfriends laptop is already connected ( and there are over 5 other wifi-s available from my neighbors)             d) Every single time I have to use the troubleshooter which says "problem with wireless adapter or acces point". Since Windows 10 was announced that it will be free for Windows 7 and 8.1 users, that got me hyped up. There are many things I've found about Windows 10 that makes me want to have it such as DirectX 12 and Windows Aero (one of the reasons why I love Windows 7). I signed up to the Windows Insider Program and got a slow but interesting feel of the Windows 10 Preview on VMWare Player and now I'm ready for the real thing! I reserved the upgrade for Windows 10 when it comes on July 29th just to be ready.

Only problem, its August and I haven't been given a message that says Windows 10 is ready to install.

Now I've read that when Windows 10 was released on the day of its launch, that the Microsoft servers have been running at their limits since a lot of people have waited the day and received their Windows 10 upgrade. I've googled some forums as well to find any other problems associated with the Windows 10 upgrade but none of them matched my description. I have the Windows logo notification on the taskbar, it just hasn't told me that Windows 10 is ready to install.

Now I'm not saying that this is taking too long and I want Windows 10 now, I'm only just a little nervous about how long this keeps up. I really hope that this doesn't drag on all the way till next year when the free upgrade option has expired, but this isn't much of a concern. I've heard of a Windows 10 Media Creation Tool and I have downloaded it but I decided not to install Windows 10 this as I have school an... Read more

Hi everybody, when I unplug the charger on my yoga 500 the screen starts to flicker like a rave party, I have searched like crazy all over and have found no solution to the problem. Things already tested:-Unplugging and plugging battery cable.-Disabling Windows error reporting service and Problem reports and solutions-Trying to update intel drivers from driver section and intel site.-Trying to update, and disable realtek hd audio driver. Things to take in account:-When connected to a second monitor, the new one won't flicker.-Laptop has warranty voided because of ssd install. (problem still occurs on bios with and withouth an HDD/SSD) so it shouldn't be considered a Windows 10 problem.-After SSD install, windows update doesn't allow me to update anything. I believe it thinks I'm booting from external hard drive. I cloned the original HDD into the SDD so that shouldn't be happening-Flickers increase with mouse, cursor and touch. Anybody has a fix for this? I read that a lot of people have this problem but I rarely see fixes.proof video https://www.dropbox.com/s/gttvhylvggtug7x/2017-05-26%2013.00.00.mov?dl=0

Posting the .dmp file (google is your friend) would almost certainly flag the culprit.

My Yoga 500 ideapad totally loses it when I plug it into power. The CPU slows down imidiately and runs at 100% usage every time I make an action (opens Chrome takes like 30 seconds). In Speccy, I can see, that the CPU runs at a speed of approx. 500 Mhz (Core speed). If I unplug the laptop, the speed goes up to like 1,9 Ghz when I opens chrome (chrome opens instantly) and CPU usage maxes out at 40% or so. I can now close Chrome, plug in the laptop once again, and if I open chrome now,it maxes out at 500 Mhz speed with 100% CPU usage. I have just completely reinstalled windows (10, 64 bit) hoping that this would solve the problem. Hi jamienffc ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can use the hardware manual for disassembly guide (page39) and likewise follow the steps advised on this thread:

PC running W7 64 bit

I had my PC set to download W10 upgrade files in background only.

Today in middle of some other work - it suddenly started to upgrade my PC !
I stopped that .....
W7 recovered OK

I followed advice to remove KB3035583 and this did remove the white W10 ready icon in task bar
However if I go to Windows Update ... it shows:
"Your upgrade to Windows 10 is ready ... you need to restart your PC"

I have used cleanmgr.exe to remove temporary installation files ..... but no change.
If I go to 'Check for updates' so I can hide KB3035583 from future updates .... I can't access this as I get the message "Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because you must first restart the computer so that a previous installation can be completed"

Reboots do not clear it.

Tried restore to earlier version ... restore fails, unable to extract file. (never had a restore to earlier point work)

Answer:Windows 10 upgrade ready - blocking system

All restore points failed to work.
Appeared that it was stuck in a part way through W10 install position.

Anyway I found a simple fix .... and for anybody else the solution is to use the GWX10 control panel.
A great free utility to resolve or prevent W10 upgrade.

"GWX Control Panel is a free program that you can use to do the following on Windows 7 and Windows 8:
Remove the "Get Windows 10" icon that appears in your notification area.
Prevent your Windows Update control panel from upgrading your computer to Windows 10.
Prevent your computer from secretly downloading Windows 10 installation files.
Detect and remove the hidden Windows 10 installation files if they're already on your PC.
Optionally monitor your computer for unwanted Windows 10-related settings and files. (New in version 1.6.)
GWX Control Panel really works, is safe and easy to use, and gives you the option to re-enable the icon and upgrade notifications if you're ever ready to move forward with Windows 10. "

So when I got my laptop I had to get the windows 10 app the hard way. Now, Windows Update says that the upgrade is ready but there is no notification in the app. Wondering if it is okay to proceed? Should I expect issues because of this? I am some what computer literate but not enough to fix deep program issues if something goes wrong. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Windows Update says upgrade is ready, nothing in app, should I proceed

Hi mellob and welcome to the forum

Just make sure that BEFORE you upgrade you create an image of you current system on seperate hard drive. Or at the absolute minimum backup all your important files, settings, documents, videos, photos, music etc etc on a seperate disk. That way if it all goes wrong you will not lose anything.

Go ahead and try the upgrade. If it does does not function correctly then you can do a manual upgrade with the knowledge that all your important stuff is backed up and safe

Greetings,

One of my rigs is showing that my Win10 Pro upgrade is ready in Windows Update. In WU, I'm curious, so in the right column I click on the sometimes useless 'More Information' link and it goes to the 'Before you install Windows Insider Preview' page on MS's site. Link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...ocid=client_wu

Also see attached screenshots of my WU notice. The Insider Preview has never been on this rig. Just been running Win 8.1 Pro x64 for the last 2 years.

My question: Is the Win10 Pro RTM or is some NEW Insider Preview version going to be installed. I know the Win10 RTM & Preview build 240 are the same, but it's a little weird that they'd link to the Insider Preview page, unless it's an oversight/mistake by MS. Honestly, I think the RTM is what will be installed...but I find this quirky enough to really wonder if something is wrong here.

What do you guys think?

Hiya, so i recetly downloaded the Windows 8 Pro upgrade, made it an iso and put it on disk. the installation ran fine, i got to the four blue squares where it identified devices. It got past that perfectly fine, but was stuck on gettign ready. I left it there for about 30 minutes and when nothing happened i restarted the computer and restored my previous version of windows.

So basically, why did it get stuck on that for so long and what can i do to fix this problem?

Hi Everyone, I am a little stumped, and I believe it has to do with a service I turned on (but am unsure of which service), but each time I reboot my computer, Windows says "Hello, we are getting things ready for you", and proceeds to go through what seems like a complete refresh. The whole thing takes at least 30 minutes. When it finishes, I am prompted with a login screen. When I log in, the desktop is blank and options are extremely limited. I have to CRTL+ALT+DELETE, and "Switch User". When i log in again, all of my desktop items are present.  Any idea how to avoid this "we are getting things ready for you" setup after each reboot?

So, I just got my yoga pro 2 Friday. Can't stand the extra stuff and 7 particians.  I've got a usb stick with a copy of win 8.1 on it. I can boot to it and get the windows installer started ( I stopped at the partiican table) I got the drivers folder from the D: on the yoga backed up. Got my win 8.1 pro product key written down. Don't think I will need any of the lenovo apps. Nothing else I need, right?  I did actually make a system image of the fresh install on another external drive when I got it, so if i did need to go back, I can. The windows installer will take care of all partiicans, correct? I'm new to EUFI boot.  I can see that legacy mode is disabled in the bios now. Thanks for any help. Looking forward to a clean install.  Wish I could have gotten this from a MIcrosoft store instead so I don't have to deal with it.

Someone stop me.Anyway I just typed this whole thing and my Yoga spontaneously navigated back out of the page and I lost the post... ARG.Here are my problems..When doing web browsing two finger scroll randomly stops working. It happens about 70% of the time  I'm surfing the web. (no matter what browser I use) Then if I hit any key on the keyboard it starts working again for a few minutes or until I navigate to a new page.. Sometimes the driver crashes (have done updates nothing has helped). This is a huge annoyance.Sometimes two finger scroll triggers forward or back navigation in my browser.. I quite frequently lose forum posts, emails or whatever Im working on because of this. In fact I'm 75% sure I'll lose this post. I have to mash the keyboard for this to go back to normal operation. Well sometimes just hitting CTRL or SHIFT helps. Randomly it acts as though I am holding down the CTRL or SHIFT key (or other keys). Its not as if I touched the key, I cna be in the middle of typing or mousing around and it will just happen... Very annoying.,, Sometime (and it just happened RIGHT NOW) the software keyboard will pop up for no reason at all while I'm typing... I can NEVER EVER get it to pop up on its own in tablet mode.If I rest my hands on the palm rests (thats what they are their for right??) It triggers a mouse click until I take my hands off. Sometimes it stays stuck on mouse click.. So annoying.I spent over a grand on this thing and I expect it to work as go... Read more

I upgraded to Windows 10 and most everything works fine. However, my computer will not automatically go to to sleep. The screen will go off, but the hard drive sounds like it is cycling between off and on. It's really strange. I tried updating the chipset driver, but the driver will not work. When I install it, I get a notification saying "This app can't run on this PC: Realtek Bluetooth Suite doesn't work on this computer.". I find that strange as well. I'm tyring to install an Intel program, not Realtek. When I try downloading other Intel drivers from Lenovo's support site, I get the same message. Any ideas about what might be going on? Also, the computer will automatically go to sleep while plugged in. When on battery, that is when the hard drive cycling happens.

Answer:Windows 10 Upgrade Yoga 2 11

Same "realtek bluetooth suite doesn't work on this system" error when I try to install ANY of the win10 intel drivers. Which sucks because I have 4 devices without drivers in my device manager. Tried uninstalling the realtek bluetooth suite and then installing the intel drivers, doesn't work.

I have a Yoga 3 Pro which was purchased with Windows 8.1 PRO SL, but would like to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro Ent which is part of our EA.  I am unable to make use of the windows partition when trying to setup from scratch because it says that the partition is a GPT partition. I'm not sure how to correct this.  Any advice?

Answer:Upgrade Windows Yoga 3 Pro

hi AndreHeneke,

When you said you would like to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro Ent, do you mean Windows 8.1 Enterprise?
- Compare Windows 8.1 Editions

If yes, you probably have a  legacy Windows 8.1 Enterprise installer.

In installing Windows, you must consider the following:

To install Windows on a GUID Partition Table (GPT) then you must use a UEFI installer (note that Windows will only boot in UEFI Mode too).
To install Windows on a Master Boot Record (MBR) partition then you will need a legacy installer (note that Windows will only boot if the BIOS is set to legacy mode).

If you have a Windows 8.1 Enterprise legacy installer, your options are the following:

Option 1:
1. Follow this guide on how to create a bootable Windows 8.1 Enterprise UEFI Installer.2. Boot into the BIOS (by pressing the OneKey Recovery Button or by hitting F2 on startup) and ensure that USB Boot is Enabled and Boot Mode is set to UEFI. When finished, hit F10 to save and exit.
   - Link to picture

3. Boot from the Windows 8.1 Enterprise UEFI installer that you created on Step 1 and you should be able to install Windows on your desired partition or you can overwrite your previous Windows 8.1 Pro installation (this is recommended if you want to keep the OneKey Recovery feature)

Option 2:
1. Boot into the BIOS and set Boot Mode to Legacy.
2. Boot from the Windows 8.1 Enterprise leg... Read more

Hello everyone! I recently bought a small lenovo Yoga 300-11 iby with windows 8.1 preinstalled. Windows update gave me the opportunity to upgrade to windows 10, which I actually prefer from 8.1 but i have been unable to upgrade because disk space is not enough. I tried also using the usb option for more space, but still no luck.. Keeps telling me space is not enough and nothing else is installed on the computer as it is new. I have already made a system back for 8.1 and actually thought of deleting the recovery partition but i read on the manual that i should not do that because 8.1 is wim boot and may not function properly afterwards. Can I do a clean install of windows 10 instead of upgrade??? Is it worth it?? What drivers do I need to download after the clean install? Thanks for the help!!

Hello,

Microsoft will be releasing the official version of Windows RT 8.1 on October 17th.  I would suggest waiting until then to perform the upgrade. That way you will get any updates and changes made for 8.1 compatibility that were not available during the Release Preview test version.

After upgrading to Win 8.1, i encountered a number of problems with Audio, and Video these problems were all solved by simple driver updates but one main problem seems to persist. Whenever the screen is tilted outside of laptop mode (when in tent, presentation or tablet mode) the performance of the laptop slows down tremendously. Video and Audio playback is sluggish and the overall system runs slowly until you return it to laptop mode then everything runs smoothly. If anyone can help me with this problem it would be greatly appreciated as i just purchased this product which was not cheap, being a student and all. Thanks for your help.

I have looked in the forums but couldnt find anything... I just got my Yoga 11s last week and updated to Win 8.1 and the keyboard stoped working properly. It works to log-in on my machine and still makes the clicking noise when the computer is in "laptop mode" but it doesn't type.  I had Lenovo send me a new machine because they thought it was just a random occurance that the keyboard didnt work but I had the problem on both machines. Both machines had the keyboard driver installed.  I contacted Lenovo after I attempted 8.1 on the new machine they sent and they told me that 8.1 isnt compatible with the Yoga 11s, but I have seen people posing that they were able to upgrade without any issues. Any input with this?  Thank you!!

Answer:Yoga 11S upgrade to Windows 8.1 issue

Hey Robins...I've had the Yoga 11s since late October. I was able to download Windows 8.1 right from the start with no issues. Well, one issue did pop up. The wifi driver didn't load properly so I had to manually install that to get the wifi working. No issues with the keyboard though.I think whoever told you that 8.1 isn't compatible with the 11s was just providing terrible customer service. It is compatible. One thing I noticed when installing 8.1 is that my laptop needed to have all of the previous Windows updates prior to downloading and installing 8.1. That included security updates and just the regular hardware/software updates. Were you able to update your machine completely prior to installing 8.1?Also, out of curiosity, what do you mean by it 'still makes the clicking noise when the computer is in 'laptop mode' but it doesn't type'? I never noticed any clicking noise.

For me I just updated through windows update and used the drivers that windows update installed. I didn't install any of the lenovo released ones as they all appeared to be the same or older version. I did make sure I was on the latest BIOS before updating. Issues I had / solution:- Mouse two finger scroll /  Set HKCU\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadPS2TM2132\2FingerTapAction = 2 (0 as default)- Mouse driver "forgetting" windows gestures / Renamed HKLM\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\Defaults\AppProfiles to AppProfiles-save- Windows resolution on built-in and other apps fuzzy (I run at 2048x1152) @ 150% custom global scaling / Set the three Desktop registry values to the following (LogPixels changed depending on the scaling you want). Note, this reverts to older single monitor scaling technique. I believe a later version of windows 10 may obviate the need for this.1. HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\DpiScalingVer =  0x00001000 (0x1018 is default)2. HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\Win8DpiScaling  = 0x00000001 (0 is default)3 HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\LogPixels  = 0x00000090  (0x060 is default), this is for 150% goggle for others- DMTF slowing down tablet mode, turned of DMTF in the BIOS, left YMC service running to detect various laptop configurations. I need some advice for the OS upgrade I'm going to do on my 4yo Acer laptop from Vista Home Premium SP2 to 7 Professional. I'm worried that it might not preform in the way that I want it to and I should just keep it Vista until I buy/get a new computer. I have no idea when I'm going to be able to afford a brand new computer but I notice that Vista is more and more outdated and unstable when I try to use applications on with it. Windows Update, Defender, Firewall, Back Up and some drivers are no longer functioning properly and trying any new applications or installing new drivers is getting increasingly difficult. I got Windows 7 (and Ubuntu 12.04) to work perfectly fine if a bit slow on a virtual machine with a limited amount of memory and HD space so I'm wondering if my anxiety is unfounded.

Answer:is vista laptop truly ready for 7 upgrade?

Perhaps...you ought to try a clean install of Vista...to see if that eliminates your current anxieties.

The compatibility list only assumes that the components are the key potential issues and are in good working condition. If they aren't, it would be wise to find out, using a clean install as the vehicle. If your problems exist with a clean install, I'd say that you would have to look at the functional status of the hardware.

And...by all means...run the appropriate hard drive diagnostic before doing an install of anything. It's the component most likely to be problematical in any system.

I am been reading many of the Win 10 Upgrade messages - but there seems to be many different ways that the upgrade to Win10 can be done. Any comments about my quesitons below are appreciated.

Someone told me yesterday that one of the easiest ways to do the upgrade from win8.1 to win10 is to just CLICK on Microsoft Window-graphic when it shows up in the lower right-hand part of my monitor (area next to where the hidden icons).

I hope that my win8.1 desktop is ready to do this upgrade.
Is there an information email on the Ten-Forums describing the actions taken after Clicking on that MS Window-Graphic ?
and if so thanks for any pointers about the Win10 upgrade. ?

I have really been enjoying all the information and quesitons on your win 10 website.
Thanks, and best to all. All be safe... Cliff

Or should I just restore back to Win 7 and wit it out until Lenovo is ready to flly operate on Win 8? Cheers, Brad

Back in the day, I ran a computer shop out of the local flea market. This has been 10 or 11 years ago, and I sold computers $1 = CPU speed. Well those days are over. Things have gotten confusing for this old Hippie Gypsy! And I have no clue where to go for answers.I currently haveBoard: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO.,LTD 785GTM-E45 (MS-7549) 1.0Bus Clock: 200 megahertz with a 2.10 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core CPU. 4GB memory. ATI Radeon HD 5450 video cardI know the board & CPU is at LEAST 3 years old. What I am asking is, what would be a upgrade on a limited budget? Something I can do right away, then save scratch back to do a bigger upgrade later on? I am more trusting of the folks here and on other boards than I am at the computer stores, as you have nothing to gain by giving me good advise. They want to make as much of a sale as possible to pad their sales. Can someone help out this old hippie?

Answer:Ready for upgrade limited funds

You already have a mean machine.  QuoteI know the board & CPU is at LEAST 3 years old. Not, IMHO, reason  n for upgrade. Wait another 2 years, Stuff in the pipeline now will blow you socks off.

I've finally plucked up the courage to upgrade from W7 to W10 but I have concerns about driver compatibility. The 'Get Windows 10' app says things are OK but I'm not convinced. For instance, these are current drivers that are out of date and since this list was compiled I've only been able to update Realtek card reader and HD audio:

I bought this laptop refurbished back in June 2016. Since then, only a handful of updates were succesfully installed and after that every updates released by Windows always failed to install. There are currently 2 updates that is being shown on windows update :Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3205386)Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607These 2 updates have been repeatedly downloaded and try to install on every reboot with no success. What I have tried thus far is Running Windows Update Troubleshooter, which found and fixed several issues but doesn't fix the update failing to install.Any suggestion would be appreciated. It is pretty tiring getting your the notebook to reboot and try to install an update for 20 minutes and never got through. It goes up to 100%, and then starts showing "update couldn't be completed, undoing changes".

I have a Win 8 Pro upgrade disk which has never been installed or activated on any machine, purchased with the promo that has now expired from MS.  All this talk of legacy has me going around in circles.   Now, from prior reading it seems that I may be able to simply add my Pro key to unlock the Pro features from the base pre-installed W8 version.  But, I would rather like to reinstall a fresh copy and download/install drivers including Rapid Start if need be.   In order to accomplish this, am I better off with an external DVD drive or a flash drive?  Essentially, I have none of the above as of now.  The Yoga is on its way at the moment, and an external disc drive would be great if it works, as I have the media burned to disc.  But, for the sake of compatibility, if a USB drive would be better, I would certainly go that route.   If there is a walk-though available, it would be GREATLY appreciated.  Thank you!

Windows 8 came on my machine, I upgraded to 8.1 a few weeks ago and have had problems with connecting to the internet since then. Sometimes it won't connect to the wifi and I have to use the troublshooter to get it connected. Often I can't load web pages and have to try several times before it will load (I use chrome) It just makes all my internet jobs take ages and very frsutrating and stressful. It is driving me mad and I would reall apreciate it if someone can explain to me in simple and plain English a few things I can try to fix it because it worked fine with Windows 8! Many thanks, Kate

Hi, I have a few questions regarding Lenovo Yoga 3 14 recovery and Windows 10 upgrade (should be generic questions that apply to other models as well): 1# Will the Windows 10 update and activation change in any way the Win8.1 OEM serial key stored in BIOS? Is there any chance that any software changes that BIOS OEM key (like malware or similar)? 2# After updating to Windows 10, if I put the USB recovery pen drive (created in Win8.1), will I be able to restore the Win8.1 version (factory restore), and successfully activate it and use it without issues? 3# On a clean drive (without any partitions, like for instance if I buy a new one), if I use the same USB recovery pen drive (created in Win8.1) to do a factory reset, will it re-create all partitions, including the recovery partition one?  Thanks

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 3 14 recovery and Windows 10 upgrade

1) Run the Win 10 installation and choose "Upgrade Windows" option. Windows 10 will be installed and it will be activated.
The chance of any software changing the OEM key is insignificant.

2) Yes, you can recover Win 8.1 successfully. No need to activate it, it will be auto-activated.

3) I dont have experience with this but reading around the forum I have seen that using a recovery drive on a new HDD may not install windows and re-create partitions.
The recovery partition is the hardest to re-create on a new HDD, even you are able to re-create it the NOVO button usually doesnt work.

Let me know if I answered your questions. Thanks.

The current configuration of my system (as bought) is 4Gb RAM.  According to the specifictions, it is upgradable to 8Gb.  I had a conversation with Sales Support via Chat trying to find the correct part number for 8Gb memory to replace the 4Gb.  I was told that as my system is still under warranty, I would need to contact Technical Support for this to happen.  Having done a number of searches on this forum, would I be right in suspecting that the existing 4Gb is soldered in to place - hence the need for a Warranty call to upgrade.  I was advised that any attempt to make the change myself would void the warranty.Any thoughts please.

I have the newer Yoga 11S with the 4th generation Core i5 (haswell) processor in it.  Everything worked great with Windows 8, no issues.  I upgraded to 8.1 from the Windows Store, and the "upgrade" process itself went without a hitch,  All aspects (i.e. wi-fi, camera, usb, performance) after wards were fine.  Then through 14 hours of meticulous testing, I discovered a specific issue pertaining to the power settings and "sleep" mode.  After the 8.1. upgrade, if the unit is put to sleep by either closing the lid or pushing the power button, when you wake it up, the system immediately comes back on (it is pingable, you could VNC to it), but the actual display never comes on.  This ONLY happens when it is put to sleep with the power cord out and the unit running on battery.  While plugged in, the symptom is not exhibited.  I've restored the unit back to factory two dozen times, and tested the 8.1 upgrade from both the Windows Store as well as from a fully licensed 8.1 CD from Microsoft.  It is reproducible everytime, and is the only issue I've found after the upgrade.  Again, this ONLY happens when the unit is running on battery and is put to sleep.  Plugged in with the 8.1 upgrade, the display comes on when coming out of sleep mode just fine.  I've checked all the threads in the formus and I have found no other person to report this.  I was wondering if anyone else with a 4th generation 11S that has upgraded to 8.1... My Thinkpad Yoga 14 is now basically a standalone CPU, and not a laptop/tablet since my Windows 10 upgrade.  The speakers did not work -- that was easy to fix.  The keyboard on the laptop will not work, and the tablet will not rotate.  I have tried so many suggestions to fix it, but it is now rendered just a cpu with external keyboard, mouse and monitor.  This is very disappointing.  Any ideas on how to fix the keyboard and tablet rotation features?

hi Justin2304,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you look under the Device Manager --> Display Adapters --> Intel® HD Graphics 4000 (right click --> properties) --> Driver tab, does it indicate a Driver Version: 10.18.10 .4176?

If not, can you try these steps:
1. Right click on the Intel® HD Graphics 4000 and hit Uninstall (ensure you put a check on Delete driver software for this device)

2. Press the Windows key? +X, choose Programs and Features and uninstall the Intel HD Graphics driver then reboot.

3. Install either one of these drivers:

Lenovo website:
Intel VGA Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - IdeaPad Yoga 13

or

Intel website:
Intel® HD Graphics Driver for Windows® 7*, 8.1*, 10 (3rd Gen & BYT)
File name: win64_153339.exeVersion: 15.33.39.4276 (10.18.10.4276)
Date: 09/21/2015
Size: 123.92 MB

When finished, reboot the machine then hit the Windows key? +P and check if you can now project to a second screen.

Let me know how it goes.

I just updated my old Windows ME computer to Windows XP (Upgrade w/ SP2). The upgrade itself was fairly painless, but for whatever reason it made me call the phone number to activate it. Everything seemed to be running just fine. Then I did the "Windows Update" to get all the latest patches & stuff. Now (after a reboot) I am stuck in some infinite loop where I get a blue screen that is "Checking the File System", it tell me it is Fat32, and then says "One of your Disks Needs to be Checked for Consistency". After it goes through and supposedly fixes some things, I briefly see a "Windows is Starting Up" screen, before it reboots and goes through the same process again, and again, and again, etc.... Cancelling the Consistency Check also leads to a crash and reboot. I can not get Windows to load now.

Please God, let someone have a simple solution to this. This is soooo frustrating!

Any help is much appreciated.
