Yoga 2 Pro - Does Plug in - Not Charging on Conversation Mode harm the battery?

Question: Yoga 2 Pro - Does Plug in - Not Charging on Conversation Mode harm the battery?

I usually use my Yoga 2 Pro with AC Adapter plugged in. I turn on Conversation mode in Lenovo Energy Manager and get a message of "Plug in - Not Charging" everytime the battery is already 60% charged. Does it mean that AC electricity will directly serve to run the laptop without going through the batttery like a desktop computer?
I'm worried this habit will ruin my battery lifetime.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Yoga 2 Pro - Does Plug in - Not Charging on Conversation Mode harm the battery?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Yes, when the charge level reaches 60% and you receive that message it means the battery is no longer receiving a charge and the laptop is being powered by the AC adapter.

No, using conservation mode will actually extend the health of your battery which means the battery will have a longer life time. It is the continually charging when the battery's charge level reaches 100% level that will shorten the life of the battery.

I was given a nextbook several months ago. I don't know how to tell details like what version it is. It says manufactured Sept. 2014, and has serial number.

I do have operating system details though. It was upgraded to Windows 10 shortly before I received it.
My issue: No matter where I plug it in, directly in an outlet, or into a power strip designed for a computer, in a heavy duty power cord, the square plug part (not the cable to nextbook) gets hot. Not just warm, hot. So I can never get the battery fully charged, because soon as it gets beyond slightly warm, I have to unplug it. Worried about overheating and fire. I've never had anything likethis before, but I don't think this is normal.
I've included 2 images of the cable/plug. Also image of system info.

Any suggestions what the issue is and what I can do for it? My Computer just quit on me, so I'm relying on my nextbook until I learn if computer can be fixed or if it's a goner.

I was troubleshooting why my daughters Yoga 13 would not charge battery and then stopped working even when plugged in.  If I left it sit for week or two till battery was 100% dead it would charge all the way up, soon as you turned it on it would work but over 1 hours or so drain the battery till dead and Yoga would die.  Here is what I found.  The green yellow and red wires must have been just touching in the heatshrink as Iifted the plug gently I could see they were broken at the solder joint.  I resoldered them then just to be sure it never happened again I hot glued where all 5 wires connect so never going to move.   Been working for over a month. :-)

Hi, my laptop's battery is not charging. I replaced the battery with a new one, but do not load the same. By accident I retrieved the power Jack around 2 mm from the socket of the pc, and charging has begun regularly! I tried several times and I noticed that the battery will only occur if before I insert completely the plug into the pc, and then pull it of about 2 mm. What can be wrong?

When I plug in for charging battery then screen goes black? when I set the  power plan at HP reccommended)But  I set the power plan at high performance then this one is OK.Please advise me to resolve

Answer:laptop screen goes black when plug in for charging battery

Did you mean to say that it goes black for a second and then returns to normal? Your notebook sounds like one with switchable graphics.  My HP product loan Envy17-3002ea does that because I have the graphics power options set to automatically switch to the energy saving GPU when on battery.  If you don't want that to happen, just take the tick mark out of the box that say automatically switch. Then it will stay in high powered GPU all of the time, but will always use more battery power when on battery. This is a decision that only you can make.    regards, erico

The battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery after it was calibrated using one key. Before that, the battery was working perfectly, lasting close to 5 hours. Now the laptop shuts off when unplugged and the battery status is constantly changing. I've had this laptop for approximately a year now and it was unused and left in an unopened box for the first 8 months.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500: battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery

Hi, Denkendale ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Do this test -

1) Switch off the laptop.
2) Disconnect power supply. Keep the battery connected.
3) Try to Turn ON the laptop.

If the laptop does not turn ON, the battery is faulty.

Also, Try turning the laptop off, removing the battery, unplug the AC adapter, press and hold the power button for thirty seconds, install the battery back into the laptop but don't connect the power cable and try to start the laptop on battery power.

Update us how it goes.

I've had my Yoga 13 for a few years now, but it wasn't until last fall or so that I started to get 'Unauthorized Battery' warnings upon start-up from the Energy Management program. This is a bit ludicrous to me, as the Yoga 13's design makes it impossible to switch out the battery on your own (ie. it's the original battery, and not an unauthorized replacement). As a result, my laptop stops charging, which is a concern for me as I am a university student who doesn't always have a power outlet handy. I understand this is a serious bug or issue. The first time (and subsequent times) it happened, I found a similar thread here on the community board which advised numerous fixes which have worked for me in the past whenever my laptop starts displaying the unauthorized battery warnings. This time, however, nothing I do seems to work and I'm getting ridiculously frustrated. The things I have tried thus far (that previously worked, but this time around, did not):- Uninstalling and reinstalling Lenovo's Energy Management program - NOTE: Usually uninstalling this program removes the 'block' on battery charging, but this time around it doesn't seem to be working. - Fiddling around with the Energy Management program's power settings - Uninstalling Notebook FanControl (which I used to control the random fan accelerations that the Yoga 13 is prone to)- Doing a hard boot by holding the power button - Booting from BIOSThe last time this happened, I had the unit sent i... Hi, I set my laptop to "Battery protection mode" which is supposed to limit charging to 60%. I noticed that once my laptop is at 60%, it switches to A/C for a few minutes, then it discharges by 1% and then charges again to 60%. This process repeats every few minutes. Is this supposed to happen? I'm worried that each time it discharges and charges again, I am wasting a charge cycle.  When I allow it to charge to 100% under "Battery Fully charged mode", it will switch to A/C when fully charged and does not discharge again so I don't think there's an issue with my battery.  Thanks for any help!

Answer:Battery Protection Mode - U410 Battery fluctuates around 60%, keeps charging and discharging.

I am facing the below given 2 problems with the battery of a brand new lenovo U41-70 i5 Red model.

1. The plugged in but not charging error. Some suggestions in the web ask the user to remove the battery and change some stuff in the device drivers, but in my model the battery is not removable.

2. The battery dissipates a lot of charge while in complete switched off mode (not in sleep, nor hibernated). I have also disabled the windows fast boot mode from the power options, but doesn't work.
To give an estimate, in approximately 9 hours of shutdown (and the charging removed) the battery dissipates from a full 100 to 70%.

Note: I have updated the laptop which came with Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Hence, the system is running on windows 10 now. The laptop is 10 days old.

Yeasterday day I performed Battery gauge reset. After full discharge of battery my laptop turned off. I was unable to turn on. I removed battery, DVD room etc after doing many things don't know how I was able to turn on the laptop.  From today I am facing another problem. When I switch the Battery mode from Maximum to Optimize or vice versa my Laptop stops charging the battery and Laptop is turning off after discharge of full battery. I do same things after doing these things many time I become able to turn on laptop back. Now again my laptop is not charging battery because I changed the mode. Any Idea how to fix this issue? Is there any easy way to enable charging and disable charging? Like Dell utility? My OS details.: Windows 8.1 Pro

Hello there! I have the issue that my newly bought Yoga 11 (three weeks ago) is charging whenever it seems to feel like. The first time I have charged it, it went up to 92 % telling me its now in power state and not charging. This happened triple. Yesterday my Yoga was beneath the 50 % mark and I plugged in the powercable, the same again: not charging. I unplugged the power cable and at 0 % and a shutdown I booted it and it charged perfectely up to 99 % without moaning. I unplugged the cable and at 77 % the same again, I plugged in the power cable and it charged up to 99 % again. Is this a bug (battery problem) or a feature (thresholds for a long living battery)? Anyone with the same? Tia,- bensty

I recently noticed that my battery was showing 10 percent when it had been plugged in all day. I plugged it in and it didnt seem like it was charging. I could see the laptop plugged in animation, but it was not charging. I woke up the next morning it was showing 96 percent, which at this point should be 100 percent.  I'm now noticing that it's just not charging.  Are there known issues? Regardless, this is totally unacceptable.

My battery is at 0% available, plugged in charging, but it never goes about 0%. I've tried resetting the battery gauge in Energy Manger 1.0.1.49 but that only runs for a few seconds and reports that the gauge reset is complete. I've also disabled the ACPI control in device manager then enabling it and the icon appears to be charging but only for a few seconds then stops. Having conservation mode on or off doesn't seem to make any difference. The latest BIOS is installed and I believe I have the latest version of Energy Manager. Anyone else having this problem?

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro Battery not charging

I've experienced this a couple times on my new Yoga 2 as well. The first instance, it just started charging again after about an hour of use. The second time, I rebooted after about an hour of it being plugged in and not charging, and once I reached the desktop, the battery showed 43%, but still not charging.. So i guess it was actually charging the whole time without showing it?After about 2 days of ownership, I've decided to do a clean install of windows 8.1 followed by loading all the necessary drivers listed on lenovo's product page, and I can happily say this 0% plugged in not charging thing hasn't happened again.

Answer:Yoga 13 Battery not charging

Battery not charging, when it gets to zero will not work at all even when plugged in.  Let it site for a couple weeks unplugged to get battery drained as much as possible.  Plugged it in once a day for a about 30 sec to see if anything would happen, nada...   After about 2 weeks, plugged in and finally orange light flashed then when solid and it started charging.  . Let it charge for about 2 hours then decided to see if it works.  Yes!  But then noticed as soon as it was up and running battery starts decreasing and went all the way to dead...  I have tried all the things mentioned on this and other boards to no avail. I am thinking class action may get some attention from Lenovo.  Any thoughts?

Hello, I just bought (last week) a Yoga 2.  I love it, but the battery doesn't seem to really be charing to 100%.  I left my computer charging overnight (alongside my cell phone, which charged just fine) and then tried to use it the next day, but when I start up windows I get shown a message that the battery is only charged to 55%.   I immediatly plugged it it (I needed to be using it on battery power for a while) and after charging for about 10-15mins it told me it was 100% charged.  I proceeded to use it on battery power andeverything seemed fine (ie I was getting about 4-5 hours of life out of it) so I didn't worry about it. But it happened again today - I left the computer to charge overnight (plugged into the same powerstrip as my phone, which charged just fine once again) and when I started up isaw that the battery had only charged to 55%.  I decided to just keep using it to see if it would jump up to 100% (a friend told me that maybe the system is just calibrating to the battery and so gets the percent charged wrong when it powers up).  However, the battery has just steadily discharged, leading me to believe it really was only charged to 55%.   After reading a bit online I checked the Lenovo Energy Manager, but I don't have conservation mode turned on (or any other special settings, I haven't used that app before).   Please let me know if there is a simple fix - I really like this computer,... Answer:Yoga 13 and battery is plugged in, not charging.

What is the charge level? If it is more than 60%, then the battery will start charging when battery level goes below 60%. This would be valid if the battery setting has been set to maximum lifespan in energy management. If optimize for runtime had been selected and it still doesnt charge or in the eatlier option below 60% it is not charging, then you would have to take laptop to support.

Hi everyone. I am about to start college this week and I recently bought a new lenovo yoga from bestbuy about 2-3 weeks ago and up until yesterday night it was working completely fine. Hello,

I seem to be having an intermittent "Not Charging" issue on my Lenovo Yoga 900.

It usually happens when it's fully charged and I unplug it for a few minutes and then plug it back in. If I let it drop below 93-95% it will usually say "Plugged in, charging" again.

Is this some sort of glitch, or a feature? I tried looking to see if I had the "conservation" setting on, and I do not.

I have a few days to take it back to the store if I need to. I'd really rather not send it in because we have problems with couriers dropping off packages that end up getting stolen because we live in an apartment with multiple locked doors, so they usually pitch it beside the door and run off and then someone else takes off with our stuff. Had it happen a couple of times with Amazon orders. (grr)

Thanks to anyone who can answer this!

Answer:Yoga 900 - Battery plugged in, not charging.

Good day and welcome to the community. This is my experience with my Yoga 900 and Yoga 900S. This way the system isn't trying to constantly top off 1 or 2%, which is not good for the battery. By contrast, Conservation Mode will charge to ~60% and then stop. That has some benefits, also. Personally, I'm not using Conservation Mode, and so far I've not seen any negative effects on my batteries.

I've combined several discussions into one because there are multiple cross-overs of symptoms.

After reviewing all the posts, I see there are two types of problems discussed:

Battery charging but only to a certain percentage
Battery intermittently charging

Several people have reported success with their limited battery percentage problem by following the solutions suggested by MarinM and Vladtech.

For the intermittent charging, several people have reported that sometimes the battery charges, sometimes it doesn't. I'd like to dig into these reports. I have a few questions I'd like to ask.

When does it charge, when does it not?
Are there any patterns to this?
Does swapping electrical outlets make a difference?
Does the USB 2.0 charging port appear loose?
Does the cable show any signs of damage?
Does the AC adapter show any signs of damage?
When a second device is plugged into the extra USB port on the AC Adapter, does this impact Y3P charging?
Are there any battery error messages?

Thank you for your help,

I am a new user for the Yoga S1, but I was wondering if it is possible to turn off battery charging.  I mainly use my laptop at a desk (so I rarely leave it unconnected from Power Plug).  I know this is bad for the battery.  On a dell that I own (Inspiron 14z) i can turn off battery charging when the laptop is plugged into the ac power plug.  Is this possible w/ the lenovo yoga S1?  The closest I've gotten to doing this was seeing an ability to turn off battery charging via BIOS, but that is only temporary (when comp is off and unplugged to switch out battery). Any suggestions woiuld be greatly appreciated.

I am having the battery problem, it is not at 60% like some people here, mine is stuck at 0% and not charging not matter what I do.I've tried to re-install windows, re-installing energy management, charging it nonstop without using the laptop for days.I have tried every solution I've read on the internet, I still have warranty for this next step is a call to lenovo. Appreciate your tips&tricks to make this thing work again.

Answer:Yoga 13: Battery not charging, stays 0%

This happened to me (first it stuck at like 80, then dwindled and stayed at 0). Had to send it in and get a new battery. Don't know why this is happening to people, but I hope it doesn't happen within the next year when the laptop is out of warranty.

Hello everyone,About a week ago, I got an error message saying something like the battery cannot be identified (I'm trying to find a screenshot somewhere).Since that moment, the battery does not charge when the AC adapter is plugged in, while the battery is nearly full (>90%).I found this thread and it fits exactly to my problem: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Thinkpad-Yoga-14-battery-quot-plugged-i... I understand that this behaviour might be a feature to improve the batteries lifespan, but I really want to get rid of that. The Lenovo Settings App offers the option to manually set the charging-threshold to 40-100%, but setting it to 100% or turning the feature off does not change anything.Another side effect is that the charging process does not begin until about 1 minute after the AC adapter is plugged in.I didn't knowingly change anything on the software configuration when the problem appeared, the said error message appeared while watching YouTube-videos. lg, couka

Hi, I have a new Yoga 2 11 and the battery will not charge. When first plugged in, it appears to charge but after 20 seconds it stops and if the ac adapter is removed, it dies. Have tried all the fixes online - any ideas?

Answer:Battery charging problem on Yoga 211

I've been having the same issue. I've had mine for about 2 months and it seems to be getting worse. I have, per manual, taken out battery and made sure clip securely fastened. That help for a bit. Other problem was the Lenovo battery application. I swear that drained battery, Even when the laptop was completely off. I'm at the point where I going to have to call support.

Answer:Yoga 900 - Battery *Plugged in, not charging*

You need to have a look at the battery settings in the Lenovo utilities.  If you have the power setting set to maximise battery life (or similar), you may get that message when the battery is approximately halfway discharged.

Hello, I bought a Lenovo at Amazon in November 2016, it was working perfectly until last week when the battery stopped charging. If I unplug the power supply it simply turns off the computer. Tried every hint from the forums but nothing happened. When I look at the Battery condition it status that I have a Poor battery, Status = No activities. Do someone have any idea or hint? Does lenovo guarantee for a computer bought in US, applies in Brazil where I live?

Hi  I upgraded to Windows 10 and ever since then my laptop battery is not charging. I am a computer illiterate and travelling at the moment so can not even seek my IT departments help. The problem is that the battery shows 1% charge and when connected it to AC the laptop works well - as soon as I disconnected, it goes into hibernate. The symbol for AC connection does show so the laptop is detecting the charger. Along with this I keep on getting a battery calibration suggestion and says that I have not calibrated my battery in a long long time - although I do it every time it shows up. So I dont know what that is. Before the Windows 10 upgrade, my laptop on a 100% charge was giving me up to 6 hours of usage so I doubt there's anything wrong with the battery physically.  Would appreciate an experts advice on this. Please speak to me as you would to a 4 year old as like I said I'm completely computer illiterate!  Thanks & Regards

Answer:Yoga 13 Battery stuck at 5% "Plugged in, not charging"

Got lenovo support help. What fixed the problem was unplugging the charger, shutting down the computer, then holding the power button for 20 seconds. While the button was held, the computer turned on, showed the startup screen, and the quickly turned off again. I plugged the charger back in, and voila, charging again!

Hello, My recently bought Thinkpad Yoga 14 recently had this strange problem going on. The battery goes down, even when the AC cord is plugged in. The battery message says "plugged in, not charging". What exactly is the problem, and how do I fix it? The laptop came with Windows 10. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you! ??

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 14 battery "plugged in, not charging...

It isn't a problem.  The battery has a nearly full charge, so the charging turns off so as not to "cook" the battery.  If you unplug the battery and let it run down a while, then plug it in, it will charge.  I tend not to charge mine until it gets under about 70%.  A Lithium battery slowly degrades after a certain number of charges.

A few weeks ago, my Yoga 2 Pro entered a permanent "plugged in, charging" state whether plugged in or running on just the battery. The battery drains as normal, it just always shows the plugged in icon. It also charges as normal. When I turn it off, the "plugged in" LED remains lit even after I unplug the power cord. Anyone else have similar issues? I'm tempted to rewrite the BIOS and see if this fixes it. Thanks for the help!

Hi, i've had my Yoga 3 (11 inch (windows 10)) version for around 18 months, and never had any issues with charging. Over the weekend (23/10/2016) I plugged in my charger, and nothing happened... this worried me, as the laptop only had 6% battery, and if it was a driver problem, this could be very tricky to fix on a dead laptop. My original thoughts were the cable has somehow broken (despite being in perfect condition), and eventually after moving the cable and carefully pushing it into the laptop even further it started to charge! I decided to see if there were new drivers available for my model, and "coincedentally" a new power management driver was released on 23/10/2016! I tried to install this driver, but as soon as the tool starts to run within a milisecond it closes itself.. So my questions are... 1) Do you think its hardware or driver issue? After messing with the lead, the laptop does charge if you bend the wire in a certain direction making me think it's a hardware issue.2) If its a driver issue, (which the driver update coincedence points to).. Can anyone help me install the driver? http://support.lenovo.com/fr/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Yoga-Series/Yoga-3-1170/downloads/DS10... Any help on this would be greatly appreaciated. Thankscnagra

Hi nsoldicic ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can try going to Device Manager and uninstall Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and Lenovo ACPI-Compliant Virtual Power Controller if listed.

If same issue Uninstall Energy management from the programs and features under control panel . check if there is any difference , You may reinstall updated version from support site.

You may also update the BIOS following this discussion :
A  new BIOS update was released on May 15th that addresses customer reports of inconsistent charging on Yoga 3 Pro laptops. It can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-3-pro-1370-laptop-len...
If you are experiencing any other symptoms such as error messages, or you are unable to upgrade your BIOS (which requires a charge of 30% to prevent bricking your laptop in the event of a power outage), you may have a bad battery or some other issue which requires repair. Please contact Lenovo Service for support.

Hi, i bought this Lenovo Yoga 13 machine 3 days ago, and now the battery is discharging and when i plug the power cord the battery icon shows me the "plugged in not charging" message. The problem began last night. I've read some forums, and tried changing the battery configuration to this or that, nothing works. I've also read that in 65% the battery will start to charge. It doesn't, i'm currently in 56% and discharging. The problem began after a Windows 8 update, so I'm suspecting the OS is the problem....  I dont know what will happen when the battery discharge completely.... but i will discharge it and tell here what happens... Help!!!

Hi iperich,

Thanks for posting in the Lenovo Community,

I?d like to advise you to try to turn on the machine using the Ac-Adapter only without the battery to make sure if the Ac-Adapter is charging and working fine,

If the charger is working fine let me ask you to try to uninstall the Lenovo energy management application and then try to refresh the system and then try to install the software back again and then  check the battery icon status,

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

Hi!My Yoga 500-15ISK Laptop seems to have a battery issue. For some time now, whenever I plug my laptop into the AC power, I get this message, e.g. "(% charge) available, (plugged in, charging)", however for some reason, the battery level actually stays the same even after a significant amount of time of being plugged in to the AC supply. Moreover, the battery icon initially shows the animated one which indicates charging is indeed in progress, then after a few moments, it will freeze on the estimated level. Before this, my laptop's battery usually charges relatively quickly. Also, I have not turned on the Conservation Mode so it must charged up beyond 50-60% especially if I leave it plugged in overnight. This issue is really bewildering me right now. Any comments or suggestions on how I can address this issue? Thanks!Other notes re my laptop:It's been around 10 months since I've bought it and I have encountered this issue only a few days ago.I have no other issues with it.

Mfg date for this laptop is Oct 2014, Windows 10 OS. About a month back battery power was about 25% when I plugged charger in. the screen became brighter, means it was charging. Suddenly the computer shut down and though charger was connected, the charging light went off. Thereafter the computer did not turn on either with charger or without. Even the charging light did not turn on. Changed the charger as well as cable but neither charging indicator turned on nor computer turned on. It was like battery fully down and charger not connected. Took it to Lenovo service center and they made it alright and told me that they had disconnected the battery and reconnected. The power left in the battery was still 25%. Exactly same thing happened once again yesterday and I disconnected the battery and reconnected and it worked. Since it happened second time, whatever the problem may be, was not solved permanently by above procedure. Can someone help what could be the reason and how to solve it permanently?

It is discharging not charging while plugged in. Indicator tells me the laptop will be fully charged in 883 hours 23 minutes, then 1041 hours and 3 minutes, then 550 hours.  Phone tech or shipping to service would be an option but only IF they have any idea what's wrong or at the very least are aware that this forum exists and can review problems and fixes. Until then we are looking for answers here and document  Please advise.

Answer:Yoga 13 Battery stuck at 60% "Plugged in, not charging" after updating to Windows 8.1

Go into Lenovo Energy Manager > click on the menu button > Settings tab > turn OFF conservation mode. This setting is designed to help conserve the health of your battery if you tend to use your laptop while plugged in.  It's not good for the battery to be held at 100% for long periods of time, so instead this setting stops chargins when the battery reaches 60% to prevent battery damage.

I just have a few questions about how conservation mode and express charging work. These two are located in Energy Manager under settings. Conservation mode keeps the battery percent at 55-60%. How is this done? Does the computer discharge until 55% and then charge back up to 60%? Also, if the computer is off, but the AC adapter is left in, will the computer still remain between 55 and 60%? Are there any detrimental effects on the battery? Express charging allows the computer to be fully charged in 100 minutes. How is this done? Why is this feature not enabled by default? Are there any detrimental effects on the battery? Thank you!

Read a few articles on how to treat a battery properly. This I found a decent article.http://gizmodo.com/how-to-take-care-of-your-smartphone-battery-the-right-w-513217256If the computer is turned off, your laptop will still remain between 55 and 60%.Express charging generates excessive heat, can make the battery die slightly faster. It's done by allowing more current to flow to the battery. But generally the more you keep your battery cool, the longer it will live. There are plenty of articles like the one above on Google some are more brief, some are more in-depth and more difficult to understand.

I have a new W520 (a few months old).  I usually work plugged in, but this morning I was on battery for quite a while and the battery drained to 25%.   I put the laptop in "SLEEP" mode and then returned home to continue working plugged in. After several hours, I noticed the battery was still at 25%.  Hovering over the battery charge icon in the system tray, the message said "plugged in, not charging".  I have two AC adapters, so I swapped them out, but still the same issue. I contacted tech support.  The person was extremely nice and remoted into my laptop.  She said the problem is the "charging port" and I need to send/bring the laptop to a warranty repair depot. However, just out of curiousity and suspicion, I decided to first shut down my laptop via "HIBERNATE" (instead of sleep), since that is usually what I do.  After reviving the laptop from hibernate mode, the battery is now charging! So, while I've solved my short-term problem and will get a fully-charged battery, it seems that something about using  SLEEP mode is causing problems with the battery recharge. Has anyone seen this or a similar issue?   To me, the problem doesn't seem to be the charging port because it's working.  Thanks!

Answer:W520 - Battery not charging after using "sleep" mode

Battery charging only works when lid is closed (sleep mode). If I close the lid and plug in the charger, the indicator light shows orange, and the battery will then proceed to charge to near full. If I open the lid prior to the orange light changing to white, the battery icon always says: __% available (plugged in, not charging). Several different chargers give identical outcomes. ALL of them will fully charge the battery in about two hours; provided that, the lid is kept closed. If I open the lid, even at say 50% charge, the orange light switches to white, and the battery icon always says: __% available (plugged in, not charging). Thanks, Ed.

If you have not previously done one now is a good time. Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7) You can also contact HP support for assistance. I just received my Yoga 3 Pro-1370 Laptop from the Lenova Repair Center - this was the 2nd service request for the battery issue.  The laptop battery still does not charge when the AC adapter is plugged into an electrical outlet.  Sometimes the charging indicator light will indicate that it is charging - but charges 10 - 15 seconds and goes off.  Confirmed the battery is not charging even though the light is not on just to be sure the issue is not with the power indicator light.  At this point the Lenova Repair Center has had possession of my laptop longer than I have in 2017.  Not sure where to turn to, Call Center/Support seems to be encountering problems and can't log a Service Call?   Seriously, I was asked to schedule a call for them to call me when their systems are up?  Laptop is under warranty, but I'm beginning to think they are trying to run out the clock. I'm typing fast - as Battery Life is below 10%   Any and all suggestions are welcomed.Regards.

Hi, I have got a Thinkpad S440 recently. Before this, I have a U460 which come with a power management tool with option for keeping the battery level < 80% for longer lifespan (I guess everybody know this).  I want to install this in my S440 too, but I cant find this tool in the thinkpad s440, instead there is a power management driver, which after I install nothing different happen? I tried around with the Lenovo Energy Management but nothing really change, my laptop still charge up to 100% (which is 44Wh over the original 45Wh) From checking the forum, I think that a power management tool for s440 certainly exist, but i cant seem to find it. Maybe there is just none for WIndows 8.1 ? Thanks for any helps !

I bought a T500 a month ago, with two power supplies -- one for office, the other for home.  I took the battery out and stored it in a closet.  As it's heavy, doing this made the commute lighter.  Now I learn that I was supposed to keep my battery installed forever and ever.  Did I harm my battery, keeping it in a closet for a month?  What happens to people who go away on a long vacation and turn their laptop off while they are away?  Does that ruin the battery?

Answer:Did I harm my battery?

Soring a charged battery for a month will not hurt it, unless it was "near death" already.

I've heard that using AC power while having the battery plugged in for extended use will damage the battery and shorten battery life.

Is this true?

I'm getting my new laptop in hopefully 2 weeks or so, if all goes well, and it will be used a lot with AC power...don't wanna ruin the battery.

Answer:Does using AC harm the battery?

yes, using the ac with the battery in can harm the battery very quickly.. 2 or three uses of like 2 hours can permanently shorten the battery's charge hold and life span. Always have the battery out when the ac is plugged in. Never use the laptop when its charging. Have the laptop off when it is charging. Keep the battery out of the laptop when not in use.

Been using my yoga 3 pro for a about a couple weeks now and have had trouble with occasional battery drain overnight while in sleep mode. I will close the lid to put it to sleep, verify from the blinking power button that it's actually asleep, and then leave it overnight or longer.  Sometimes the battery level is almost the same as when it went to sleep, but sometimes it's completely dead.  It's like it's waking up on its own at some point and not going back to sleep.  But I've never caught it in the act.  And I've always put it to sleep with plenty of battery. My power settings are set to sleep after 15 min on battery.  I can't find anything else in the settings that would wake it up (no wake timers, etc), and my wireless adapter in device manager is not checked to allow it to wake the laptop.  I've seen threads about this for the Y2P, but those didn't fix mine.  Anyone else encountered this issue?

Answer:Yoga 3 Pro battery drain while in sleep mode

Hi curdog,Can you check in the Lenovo Energy Management if the USB charging is disabled? Also can you try closing all your applications before putting it to sleep and leaving it differently and see if some of the apps have gone "rogue" causing it not to "deep sleep".Thanks

So I've happily stayed with Lenovo for a number of years - I have a laptop power supply in almost each room of my house and in back pack. That's a total of six. My Yoga 13 is on order, but I'm getting cold feet:  I'd really like to not have to buy 5 new power adaptors for a total of 12 Lenovo power adapters, 6 round, 6 blocky, given that I for some reason I still usually have to walk to the next room to retrieve one of my six adapters that seem to randomly migrate between places under the bed, behind the water closet, tugged under the desk, and so... Is there (yet?) a  fantastically simple plug converter, round (female)  to blocky (male), that will attach with a strap to the end of the 20V cable of my existing converters so that each can serve both blocky and round needing Lenovo devices? I image each plug would cost $1 and that Lenovo would sell a bag of 10 of 'em for $10 as part of the customer loyalty program? /Lenovski

Answer:Are my many Lenovo power adapters (w. round plug) compatible with Yoga 13 through plug converter?

There no plug converters, and the Yoga power plug is not compatible with previous Lenovo power adapter plugs.

I have a new Yoga 2 Pro with i7 processor. It works great and normal battery life is about 4-5 hours. But with a fully charged battery, i can close the lid at night triggering sleep mode, and wake up to an almost dead battery. Why is this happening? It's really dissapointing and I'm going to return it if I can't find a fix. I'm on the latest BIOS with all current updates. I am not using Hibernate mode. Closing the lid shoud not cause battery to continue to drain at normal usage rates. I'm hoping it's the WINDOWS 8 software but I've tried all the settings I can find.

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro Draining Battery Fast in Sleep Mode

Probably because your laptop isn't even going to sleep. Check the power light to see if it's solid or blinking. If it stays solid your laptop isn't sleeping. The sleep function on Yogas basically don't work at all.

Answer:Lenovo y50-70 conversation mode

Hi 12gauge  ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

From where did you run conservation mode ? Was it from Lenovo Settings?

Try to open device manager and right click on the wireless adapter to change property setting .
On power management tab , uncheck box saying " Allow to turn off device to save power"
On advance tab , place roaming tendency / aggresiveness to highest if available . then restart.

Update us how it goes.

Dear All,I have Lenovo Thinkpad T460S purchased almost a year ago. Today I suddenly faced problem in charging battery. Charger is plugged in and battery icon is showing "plugged in, charging" but actually it is charging very slowly. Normally battery is charged in one hour or so but today it took more than one hours to reach only 24% or so. Furthermore, soon after plugging in, battery icon shows "filling in process" for few seconds then stopped i.e no filling in process. Furthermore, after whole night charging, battery is now 94% charged, battery 2: 100% charged, fully charged; battery 1: 0% charged, not charging (please attached images). Please guide how to get rid of this problem?Thanking in advance. Shahid

Energy Management will not let me change from "Maximum Battery Life" to "Optimized Battery Health".  If I click the radio, it will reset back to "Maximum Battery Life". This just happened this morning, no software was installed.I've tried:Reinstalling the Energy Management.Remove the battery ACPI driver and letting it reinstall. This is super frustrating that now I'm capped at 60% charge. I've spent an hour googling around and nothing comes up. Anyone have this problem and know why this wonderful piece of software is fixated now on 60% charge? [EDIT]More info.  I unplugged and set to maximum performance.  After 20-30 minutes the meter still shows 60% and I get nothing that indicates how many minutes are left on the charge.  I just had it the other night before shutting down for the evening. Something is wrong in the power management control... I can't change charge modes, no meter update, or time prediction. [EDIT 2]So I turned off the computer, searching for the button to discharge the MB.  Couldn't find it.  Did the 10-sec hold power button.  Then I just started again after about 10-15 minutes off and it fixed itself.  Not sure what cause the battery to malfunction but I hope it's not a sign of a charging/battery hardware failing...

Dears, working with my Yoga 910 for 6 months now but the battery never lets mework more than 4 hours with it.every test I read is talking about 8 and 11 hours which i definately can not reach. anybody with similar problems or any ideas how to improve the running battery time? thanksAlex

Answer:Yoga 910 battery only works 4 hours in energy saving mode

I have the UHD screen, which apparently takes more power, but I get 5 to 6 hours of work. Inerestingly watching movies uses the same power.A big factor I find is how high the screen brightness is,  but yours does seem to be really low. Here is my estimate from the battery report Since OS install     6:04:30 Run a battery report by following this https://www.windowscentral.com/generate-battery-report-windows-10

Things have been good with my Yoga 3 pro until this weekend. Battery life was a good 5-6 hours, but after a recent windows update it appears the battery will no longer charge. It shows plugged in and charging and shows increasing charge but after un plugging it will dim the screen as if it's in power save and then die within 10-15 minutes. I reverted to before the update but that did not solve the problem. It happened all of a sudden so I assumed it was related to the update. Please help, love the machine but this makes it unusable.

Answer:Yoga 3 battery won't charge - shows plugged in charging but shuts down when not plugged in

I had the same issue a few months ago. I had to send it in and after analysis found out there was a motherboard issue.I have been using the replaced one for a few months and am running into the same issue again, am having to send it back in

I was watching a movie and forgot about the battery being low then suddenly my laptop went into hibernation mode(screen went black) when I plugged in the ac adapter I pressed the power button and it stated "Resume windows" and I'm worried if it can damage/harm the laptop.

My question is can this damage/harm the laptop?

Answer:Laptop Went into Hibernation because low battery,Can it damage/harm l

Shoudnt be a problem on a healthy laptop.

sleep is a resume state written to your ram and hibernate is the same thing only its written to a small file on your Hard drive which will resume your session after you reboot after losing power.

Just let it resume and you wont have a problem.

The only time hibernation is a bad thing is where we are using SSD drives instead of mechanical.

Hi all, I am curious about any possible damage that might happen to a laptop battery if after the battery has been completely charged, it is left plugged in.

I've been told that I should remove the battery if I'm going to leave it plugged in because it may overheat and become damaged. Could someone shed some light on this for me please?

Lenovo X1 Yoga 2015 i5 6200u 8gb ram Windows 10 home premium 52wh battery QHD Display Okay, just some background. I am a proud 5 year owner of a Thinkpad X220, which I still use.I purchased a X1 Carbon (non-yoga) 2015 model, I sent it back because it was having fuzzy text and lid closing issues. (The FHD screen is horrible) see my other post on that. Lenovo sent me a new X1, I sent it back for same reason. I got my X1 Yoga today. It looks, feels amazing, I wished it worked too, that'd be nice. I kind of wish they would test their laptops before selling them lol. Choose what closing the lid does... "sleep"... I close the lid, it sleeps. Open the lid, it beeps loudly and display does not resume, but keyboard lights on. I have to manually hold power button to shut down laptop. I turn it back on and it goes back to my windows I had open. I wish Lenovo would sell a Thinkpad X1 that when you close the laptop, it would sleep, and when you open the laptop it would resume, that would be awesome! Also, I had it in tablet mode, I put it in laptop mode, and the display remained in tablet mode. I had to go put it back in tablet mode and then back into laptop mode for it to show me the laptop display mode. #ridiculous Battery Life: It so variable. Sometimes it says I have 3 hours of battery on a 90% charge, sometimes it says I have 9 hours left... I'm just browsing the web, no videos. Lenovo, if you're reading this, please don't a... Hi, So out of the blue my Yoga 13 seized up while sitting at the start menu in Windows 8.1. I had to kill the local svc host which had accumulated over 2GB of ram... just so I could shutdown the machine,  but when I shutdown some craziness started. The power wouldn't turn off even after 20 minutes. I held it down forever and finally it did turn off (maybe the shutdown was incredibly prolonged). I did also flash the bios after this craziness, to the one on the suggested download site (version 55).  At any rate, that's when the problems really started: I got the plugged in not charging issue in windowsThe battery charging light no longer turns on when plugged in (though the battery is charging). The novo button doesn't work.Unauthorized battery messagePower button wasn't responsive when off. It took several minutes for it to register. I of course have tried, from the forums: Letting the battery run down to zero/Shutting down the power from the bios. The latter fixed the unautorized battery problem.Uninstalling/Reinstalling Lenovo energy management. This does allow the battery icon in windows to show charging above 90%... sometimes.Turned off fast boot in windows and bios. The problem with the power button not responding when off is much, much less in frequency now.Making sure that Maximum Battery was selected in Energy Management.Resetting the battery guageI reflashed my bios to version 55 with the default fan profiles located in a Lenovo KB article...
