Lenovo Yoga 2 (base model) 11 trackpad two finger scrolling

Question: Lenovo Yoga 2 (base model) 11 trackpad two finger scrolling

I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 (base non-pro) 11 W8.1 with all the latest updates from microsoft. The trackpad has never worked successfully with 2-finger scrolling. There was a lot of buzz in 2014 on the trackpad issue on this formum and elsewhere; I haven't seen much posted in the past 6 months so I don't know if a) the issue has been fixed or b) people have given up. Notably I've seen recomendations to download use the trackpad manufacturer's drivers, but others have commented that this disables the tablet features. Apparently the proper driver would have to emerge from Lenovo. Has there been a resolution to 2-finger scrolling on Lenovo Yoga 2 11 that retains the tablet and other convertible features? thank you,-rei

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When scrolling with the index finger on my right hand I will regularly hover over and lightly touch the left button with my left index finger in anticipation of the link/button/text box etc that I am about to click on. I have always done this an never encoutered any issues on the numerous laptops I have owned and used in the past). When I do this on my newly axquired Lenovo Yoga 900 it causes the mouse pointer to lag momentarily. I have updated drivers (v19.0.17.57), I have turned off ALL Multi-Finger options (2-finger, 3-finger and 4-finger) and reduced Palm Tracking to the minimum. Is this behavior isolated to me, or are other experiencing the same behavior? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I got my Lenovo Yoga 710 in the summer of 2016, and everything works great except for the inactive scrolling. The inactive scrolling only works when I have an external mouse attached to my laptop, in which I am able to type in one window while scrolling in another window that's inactive. However, the inactive scrolling doesn't seem to work when I am using my trackpad and not an external mouse. I have updated all of my drivers, but I just don't understand why the feature would work only with the external mouse and not the trackpad. It is rather inconvenient to carry around an external mouse when the trackpad is supposed to do the job. I am coming from a Macbook Pro and I really miss the inactive scrolling that it provided.  I would really appreciate it if someone could please help me. Thanks! P.S. I do not have any third party software installed and the inactive scrolling feature is "enabled."

Hey, I'm a new lenovo user. The trackpad on my SL410 is nice, but the two finger scrolling feature is unacceptable. Its unresponsive, or zips me to the top of the page when I'm trying to scroll down. I've fiddled with all the controls available in the control panel and its made a big difference. But its still nowhere as smooth as a Mac, and I don't see any reason why it shouldn't.  Any drivers or something I can install that would help? Thanks for your help! james

Just bought  a Carbon X1 with windows 10. Everything works except for scrolling with one finger on trackpad as I always did on my E450. Called support and he installed new drivers but still no scrolling. Trackpad works for cursor movement and clicking. Called support back and fix is to return laptop for motherboard replacement. Seems extreme and last ime I sent in E450 for disk drive and motherboard replacement laptop became erratic. Rather not have even a trained technician opening up a brand new $1500 laptop. I have two questions:1) Should single finger scrolling work on my Carbon X12) Is there a setting for scrolling. I recall on my E450 running windows 10 that I was able to specify where I wanted scrolling to be active on the trackpad (Left edge, right edge and even width of active path.

I just bought a Yoga 3 14" and I have an issue with the touchpad: when I use the two finger scrolling function, it doesn't stop scrolling unless I lift both fingers off the touchpad. All other notebooks I have used before stopped scrolling when I lifted just one finger, alowing me to resume controlling the pointer with just one finger. This is very annoying, and I would like to know how to change this behaviour.

Thanks

Aside from the below trackpad issues, coil whine and fan that likes to spin up even when doing basic tasks, I quite like the new Spectre x360. Issue 1: When using the entire trackpad as a click, the cursor will sometimes move just before I actually click down, which is something I never experienced on my MacBook Air's trackpad. This results in either missing what I originally wanted to click, or clicking on something entirely different. Issue 2: Two-finger scrolling doesn't work in the bottom 20% of the trackpad. I can use two fingers in that area, but scrolling won't actually start until I get towards the middle of the trackpad. So, until I hit that area, it'll just be single-finger pointing. Given the trackpad's wider than it is tall, this can become a problem. I tried messing around with the dated-looking Synaptics settings program, but couldn't get anything to help. Maybe it'll get better with time on its own? Otherwise, hopefully software updates will fix it...

I just purchased a Yoga 900. There seems to be an issue with the trackpad and 2-finger scrolling. 90% of the time 2-finger scrolling works flawlessly, but I'd say about 1/10 times I try to scroll using 2 fingers on the trackpad, the cursor just moves up the page as if I was only using a single finger.  Has anyone else had this issue? I tried reinstalling the trackpad driver, but nothing changed. Any advice?

I've had this laptop for about a month and didnt have an issue until yesterday when my two finger scroll stopped working. I tried adjusting the screen resolution as some responses suggested to no avail. I have checked my setting and two finger scrolling is definitely turned on but started having no effect at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a ThinkPad Yoga S1 with a clean and up-to-date installation of Windows 10 Pro. Synaptics driver version 19.0.17.27 is installed.Two-finger touchpad scrolling rarely works in several UWP/Metro apps such as Calendar and Groove Music. When I attempt to scroll, a little crosshair appears on the screen and moves up and down instead of moving the page. Every once in a while it actually does scroll, but only at random and immediatey stops working again.Strangely enough, if the UWP window is in the background behind another window and isn't currently in focus, two-finger scrolling works fine. Non-UWP/Metro applications do not seem to be affected by this problem.Any help would be greatly appreciated.-gyokuroEDIT: I found a temporary workaround right after I posted this that doesn't fix the issue, but at least makes it less of an annoyance until this is fixed. If you click on the taskbar and then try to scroll in a UWP app, it works fine, and the tiny crosshair doesn't appear either.

I got this laptop in August, and I didn't have any problems with the laptop. However about a month ago, the 2 finger scrolling on the trackpad has stopped working. I've made sure that 2 finger scrolling is selected in the mouse settings, but no matter what I do, 2 finger scrolling doesn't work. I've updated my mouse drivers and everything to the latest versions as well, but that didn't fix the problem either. Any clues as to why this might be happening?  Thanks, Mitch

Two-finger scrolling has suddenly stopped working on my Yoga 710. A reboot hasn't worked. Two-finger zoom still works, but when I try to scroll it malfunctions. Pulling two fingers down on the touchpad minimises the window. Pushing two fingers up takes me to miniature view of all my open windows. Very occasionally it will scroll slightly in one direction but not the other, but I can't get it to happen often enough to work out why it works occasionally. What is going wrong? EDIT: It now seems that the zoom is a bit finicky too. It works much of the time when I try to enlarge or shrink Facebook in my browser, but not all the time.

Hi there, I've had my X1 Yoga for a while now, and two-finger scrolling in all apps seem to be great. But for some reason, two finger scrolling in the Windows 10 start menu is NOT great. It's super glitchy and seems to stop abruptly. Normally if you swipe down and lift your fingers, there's still some inertia that will continue the scrolling a bit - but the start menu seems to stop instead of continuing with inertia among other issues. Long story short - two-finger scrolling in the Windows 10 start menu sucks on my X1 yoga. Is anyone else with an X1 Yoga having this issue? Is there any way to fix this? I can post a video to show what i'm talking about if needed. Thanks!

The driver for the yoga 3 pro on Windows 10 needs some work.  You can no longer use double fingers to scroll on the start menu or in many of the modern apps.   Is there any work around to this?  When unstalling the driver, the trackpad isn't disbled in tabalet mode, which is more annoying than the scroll issue.

Hi everyone, Just received my brand new Yoga X1 2nd gen and everything's fine. The only thing that drives me crazy is the scrolling direction when using the two finger scrolling on the touch pad. I want to reverse it as I'm used to it on all other computers I've ever used before. How do I do this? There're some articles, also in this forum, pointing to advanced settings of the Synaptics tab included in the mouse settings. But there is almost nothing to change, especially nothing relating to changing the direction. There must be a registry setting. Please help, so I can enjoy my new Yoga X1 :-) Cheers Georg

It just kind of freaks out on me, in Chrome instead of scrolling, the pointer disappears and it just zooms in and out, almost as if its being recognized as touchscreen input. It did this on Win 8.1 as well when the screen resolution was set at 1080p instead of 1800p. However when it was at full res i had no problem. Anyone else come across this issue?

Answer:Two finger scrolling not working on Yoga 2 Pro after windows 10 upgrade.

I am having similar problems, although I don't have the zoom issue- it is simply not scrolling.   very frustrating when you are accustomed to this method.   My resolution was also reset, but I don't find that as much of an issue- the scrolling I can't fix.

Just got this machine (Yoga 13 i5) 3 days ago, and while I'm satisfied for the most part I noticed that scrolling in web pages using either Firefox or IE is pretty slow. Actually it seems like webpage rendering overall is a little weak. I'm coming from a Acer Timeline X 3830T which has pretty much the same specs as the Yoga 13 and there's no comparison. The acer always rendered instantly and never felt slow loading. The odd thing is that if I use my fingers in IE the scrolling is just as smooth as on my iPhone. In Firefox it's the same laggyness. It doesn't feel like a problem with the trackpad itself, rather It feels as if the GPU simply can't keep up, which I'd have trouble believeing. Am I the only one noticing this? Also what's with the CPU overhead? In task manager I'm seeing 15-20% cpu utilization at idle with a good chunk of it being taken up by WMI Provider Host.

I'm befuddled. Two finger scrolling in Windows 10 dialogs, applications and Internet Explorer/Edge all works perfectly. However, Chrome is far too sensitive and the page blazes past. I can't adjust the scroll speed in settings because that affects all other apps (in other words they'll become way too slow!) Just to make matters more confused I've also got a Logitech mouse and the scroll wheel works fine everywhere - and this means if I install an extension in Chrome to configure scroll speed to work with the touchpad I will have slowed it down to a painful rate using the scroll wheel. Any clues how to configure Chrome two finger scrolling correctly? Is this an issue with the trackpad or Chrome?

For quite a long time I've been planning to buy the Yoga 720. However, I don't have money to buy anything but the base model. Even though only 8gb of ram doesn't bother me too much at the moment, I would like to upgrade eventually down the line. A sales representative has shown me the PSREF. Through checking there, I seem to find that the only models with an extra slot are the ones that come with 16gb of ram (8gb soldered and an extra slot filled with 8gb stick). Does that mean that the model: 80X7001WUS  has only 8gb soldered in without room for upgradeability?  Thanks for any information.

Answer:Does the yoga 720 have an extra ram slot on the base model?

Hello and welcome,

If you scroll down the page you linked and expand specifications you'll find a link to the base spec.  The way I read it they all have a RAM slot which may or may not be occupied depending on specific MT-M.

That said, I have no personal experience with this model.  This is based on what I read below.

http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/Lenovo%20Tablets%20_%20Convertibles/YOGA%20720%20(15_)/YOGA_...

Hi, I've just been upto-updated by Microsoft at some point my trackpad stopped working correctly. I always used two finger scrolling with most other options disabled - worked fine.  Now Vertical scrolling works fine, but horizontal scrolling doesn't do anything.  More annoyingly is that if I try to horizontal scroll (intentionally or otherwise) it often locks the mouse cursor and can't do anything for a while.  two finger vertical scroll sometimes releases the cursor, but not always. There appear to be no lenovo driver updates available. The driver installed is Synaptics 19.0.17.22 - 30/09/2015.OS Version: Windows 10 Pro - Windows 10 Version 1511 10586 Tried everything I can find, but no joy.  Please advise if this is a known issue and/or one that will be resolved with a driver update.

This morning, I decided to make the jump to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1, and I have to say, the design looks simpler to use, but this new OS software has done something with my touchpad. Originally, on my Windows 8.1, I was able to scroll through whatever web pages or folders in my computer with one finger using my touchpad. With this new update, initially, I thought it broke my touchpad completely, but the problem has been narrowed down to having to now use two fingers to scroll in the most awkward way as this touchpad doesn't seemed to be designed for two finger scrolling. Is there a way for me to change this back? Would I have to revert back to Windows 8.1 to get my one finger scrolling back?

The laptop I am using is a Gateway NE56R34u, and the touchpad is an ELAN. Any and all help would be much appreciated.

Answer:How to change from two-finger scrolling back to one-finger scrolling?

Would Gateway drivers for their touchpad be one area to explore ?

I was looking at a Logitech touchpad, and it appears their drivers are what controls the response/numbers of fingers/digits.

Alright. So since I've bought this computer I've had problems with the two-finger scrolling suddenly stopping, like many people have. That's always been fixable by going into properties, device settings, settings, unchecking/rechecking one of the boxes under "two finger scrolling" and hitting OK. Now, though, my touchpad is suddenly stuck on one finger scrolling, and it's super annoying. There is no "one finger scrolling" option under the "scrolling" drop down thingy under device settings, so I haven't a clue why this is happening. I've tried the usual fix above, restarting the computer, installing new drivers, but it still does one finger scrolling. Which means it scrolls a lot of the time when I don't want it to, and the pointer seems to get "stuck" at times when I'm just trying to move it around. This is extremely frustrating - any help would be great!

Answer:Why isn't the two finger scrolling gesture no longer working after upgrading to Windows 10 (Lenovo G50)?

Same thing happened to my two-year old Samsung laptop, but fortunately I have downloaded the touchpad driver before so re-installation was easy.
Have you tried checking for driver updates in Device Manager? This method should automatically search for, download and install the driver for your touchpad. Take note, however, that you may need to uninstall the current driver first before it would be able to detect a new one, so make sure you have your mouse ready.
If that doesn't work, try checking the manual or documentation of your laptop - there must be some information about what kind of touchpad is in your Lenovo. Once you find information about your touchpad, it would be easier to search for the appropriate driver manually.

every few hours or every other time i use the computer for only 2 minutes or 1 minute it will behave eratically and start reading 2 and 3 fingers on the trackpad and suddenly start and suddenly stop as if it is not a warming issue or heating issue. rather a driver or software issue i have pdated driver played with settings and this still happens every so often i want to return my computer but i got a killer deal with the i5 but the trackpad glitchyness is too important of an item to just "deal with" does lenovo know about this a few other people i have found online have same issue.

Answer:g50 70 trackpad eratic behavior glitchy choppy reads 3 finger and 2 finger

A couple of things to try......

First, try doing a reset of the BIOS by following the procedure I have listed below.  This procedure can help at times resolve hardware conflicts that maybe affect the way the system performs.  Just do this......

1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. 3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If the reset didn't resolve the issue then I would next suggest that you uninstall the touchpad driver, reboot the computer and then install a fresh copy of the driver.  A clean install is the best way to try and resolve driver related issues.

I just upgraded my Yoga 2 Pro to windows 10 and my touchpad was acting crazy--for example, I could only get a window to scroll when it was out of focus.  I tried reinstalling my touchpad drivers, and it took about 5 attempts to get it working at a basic functionality.  However, this process caused an egregious change to basic scrolling behavior.  When I used to scroll with two fingers, I could stop scrolling by lifting one finger, and my mouse would return to being a cursor.  Now, when I lift one finger, it continues to scroll, and it will only stop scrolling once I lift the second finger.  So if I'm moving my cursor around, and I drop a finger down for just a brief moment, I won't stop scrolling until I completely remove my hand from the touchpad. I tried reinstalling the driver, I tried installing the Lenovo Windows 10 touchpad driver, (64-bit)

This looks like a windows 10 issue but some other laptops have additional settings for trackpad and I would like to know they exist for this ultrabook. I also wonder if I can configure the trackpad gestures. The trackpad might break me here... it's absolutely terrible if you're the kind of user that likes to use single finger click and two finger right click exclusively. You can set it up for this behaviour but it basically disables the entire bottom third of the trackpad.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 900S - trackpad behavior

Are there tactile click locations for left and right click in the bottom corners?  Or is it totally "tap" sensing?  Mine shipped out yesterday and this was one of my concerns.  Another option that just went on sale, the ThinkPad X1 Tablet, has dedicated buttons like a traditional ThinkPad.  It's much pricier for the same hardware, though, and I like the Yoga flexibility compared to a Surface type setup.

Hey community,

I have a yoga 3 pro and recently updated to windows 10. What a  idea!

Since than, I have the following problem:

The trackpad is functional weird.
When I restart or "power on" my laptop the following occurs:
Within the start button I cannot use the scroll function... (I cannot scroll to the "all apps menu" using the 2 finger guesture, I actually can not scroll at all in the start menu.)

When I put the laptop into hibernate mode and I wake it up again... it is all super weird... The scrolling still does not work but even the new task view menu using 3 fingers up scrolling does not work neither work the 4 finger guestures.

I of course tried the old driver and the scrollign works better ut the "new gesture" modes are not available PLUS Windows 10 forces me to update the trackpad driver.

Is this problem known to Lenovo and is there a problem solution in progress and more importantly are other users experiencing the same problem?

Hi everyone. I have tried searching here and on Google for a solution and can?t find anything for Yoga 710-15IKB owners. The only relevant thread I could find was from this user who is describing essentially the same questions, but nobody came up with a solution. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-710-Touchpad-Settings-Area-settings/t... I am trying to activate two touchpad features on my new Yoga 710-15IKB. Two finger scrolling. Two finger right-click tap.Increase speed of touchpad. There is no place to make touchpad gesture changes.Going into Windows 10 control panel settings for the touchpad. The only adjustment I can make is ?touchpad sensitivity?.Updating the ELAN driver in Windows 10 via ELAN tab > properties. This does nothing.Downloading and installing various ELAN/Synaptics touchpad drivers from Lenovo.com, none of them activating any ?gesture? settings that I can find. This one specifically did not even work? http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds118370 My questions: Does the Yoga 710-15IKB even support touchpad gestures? Are there any owners with this model who have success with activating gestures? Thanks for your... Ended up taking the laptop back to Best Buy. The Geek Squad rep and I compared the model on the shelf. While the driver information matched, my model did not recognize the trackpad as being standalone (it was acting as a mouse in a PS/2 port). We concluded my computer had a faulty trackpad and got an exchange. All is well!

Hi guys Just bought the Lenovo Yoga 510 and it's amazing but the trackpad feels a bit flimsy. I'ts makes noise when I'm typing. I was wondering if someone had the same experience. Oh and the placement of the arrow up button and the right shift button is a bit unfortunate but I guess I'll get used to that. Cheers!

Hello,I just got the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro 13.3" Touchscreen Ultrabook - (Intel Core i5-4210U) last week. I need it for college, mostly for reading ebooks and PDF files... but also for HTML coding, photoshop, illustrator, and after effects.  However, I am having lagging problems when reading ebooks, and PDF files (on Adobe Reader). When I scroll the scrolling is choppy, slow and laggy. Is there a way to make the scrolling smoother? This problem happens both in tablet and laptop mode. The scrolling is fine when I'm on the internet or using another software, it mostly happens on PDF files and ebooks.  If there is no way of fixing this I'll have to return the laptop because it is very annoying and I cannot focus on my studies with it.  EDIT: Just to clarify the lag/choppy scrolling happens BOTH when using the trackpad and when using the touchscrean display. When I open a PDF it is automatically choppy and laggy.

Answer:New Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro has laggy/choppy scrolling

Could be that you are opening a big PDF, the PDF has lots of pictures, or you have a slow PDF rendering program. Nitro and Foxit are both good, but super slow to rendiers some pdfs.... Acrobat reader sucks but, renders well.

Hi,   i have posted before on this subject. I purchased the Lenovo yoga 500 Laptop model 80N5 , serial number R9OG44P3  but  the 23/10/15 with a year?s warranty,  but the warranty on this machine started 5/6/2015 . The Laptop is hardly used, I ran some updates which worked fine, then it shut down and wouldn't power up.I have had it looked at by 2 independant companies who have said that the power brick  caused a burnt chip on the motherboard and that a power suge could have done it!  I was under the impression that the Power brick has built in surge protector and woulnt have gone as far as the unit to damage the motherboard! i have been told by the company that i bougth it from it was negligence by me that has caused the unit to malfunction . They want a report saying a manufactor fault then it will get replacced.I have seen on the Lenovo website recall for power cords and batteries, can you advise if my model is one of those and apart from that what else can i do .

Hi, can someone confirm that all Yoga 720 models work with a Lenovo Active Pen? The only model that's sold with a pen is $600 more expensive than the next most expensive model (with basically the same spec minus the pen). Given that a pen isn't anywhere near $600, it gives me concern that the rest of the models (without an included pen) won't work with a pen that could be purchased separately. Thanks.

Hello everybody, I have acquired as mentioned in the title the Lenovo Yoga 300-11IBR Model 80M1 notebook for taking notes in class. It comes with a pre-installed 500 Gb SSHD. Because of the heat generated by the SSHD inside a no-fan laptop and the always on the move nature of classes I would preffer a more shock-resistant solution like an SSD. I tried changing it with an OCZ Vertex450 128Gb SSD I had in my desktop pc but it was not detected by the system. I have "used google" the last past days but no concrete answer was found. Not really the most popular laptop I guess, or still too new...Can you more tech-savy guys please help me to understand what I am doing wrong and if it is possible to install an SSD in my notebook? Thanks

Hello all, I bought a Lenovo Yoga 710, model 710-15ISK, brand new from best buy a week ago and I started noticing something super annoying. This laptop has the I7 processor, 256gb SSD, 16gb ram, HD 520 and GeForce 940mx. Outside of the constant hum from the fan, my laptop makes a sporadic and intermittent electrical scratching noise or whining sound every time i scroll (screen redraws) or if I load a program like chrome or word. I've heard terms such as coil whine or piezoelectric effect? I am not sure, but it is quite noticeable and quite annoying! It sounds like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOgFPlS_b1s the sound is loudest right in the center of the keyboard, at least for me; the buzz in the video was provoked by loading software and or scrolling up and down on a page or document From what i was reading, it sounds like it has to do with the CPU and the ACPI driver; another possibility is the Intel HD 520 graphics.  Anyone know what is going on, or how to fix it? Thank you in advanced!

Hello, As the Title suggests, I am not able to turn on my Lenovo Yoga 2 13.When I try to turn on the Laptop, the White Light on the power button comes up for 6 Seconds and then goes off. Keyboard lights do not turn on, & the same effect with pressing the Novo recovery key.The battery does charge (The lights change according to the charge levels.) Things that I have tried so far: 1) Remove the power cable and press the power button for 30 Seconds, 60 Seconds, & 90 Seconds. No Effect. 2) Open up the backside, remove the battery cable (and battery), remove the power cable, and power discharge by pressing the power button. Turn on the laptop using just the Power cable. No Effect. 3) Remove the heatsink, clean it and then reapply the Thermal paste. No Effect. 4) Remove the hard disk and then try turning on. No Effect.  Despite trying all these steps, the effect is still the same. I honestly do not ahve any idea what to do now. Can anyone suggest something?  Any help would be appreciated!Thank You!

Hi all, on June 2017 (around 3 months and half ago) I bought a Lenovo Yoga 510-14AST Laptop (ideapad) - Type 80S9 - Model 80S9000MIX.I immediately saw a huge slowness but I didn't have a good chance to deep dive the issue. In the last couple of weeks I investigated and found that when launching any of the installed applications (even just the browsers MS Edge or Chrome) the CPU and Hard Disk reach immediately 100% of occupation from Task Manager.I asked to the Lenovo Support guys and they suggested me to try One Key Recovery.I did it and unfortunately it didn't solve. Now the Laptop is reset with factory defaults but even just launching "Lenovo Companion" app cause cpu and hd to move quickly to 100%.The laptop is completely unusable and I'm quite disappointed because the performances are so poor like a Netbook with Intel Atom cpu.I contacted again Lenovo and they told me to send it for technical assistance.I will do it but I would ask if someone that has bought the same model experienced the same.My idea is to ask a replacement with another Lenovo model more performant (paying the difference if needed).Do you think it would a reasonable request? Thanks a lot for al your collaborationBest regardsFabio

Hi,

Two Finger scrolling is good, and even better when the actions that you make correspond to the actions on the screen. That kinda falls apart with the "coasting" option that the Synaptics drivers do by default, which adds a magical fence to the top and bottom fifths of the trackpad area, where the scrolling just totally runs away from you. This is a silly overcorrection to a minor user input, and is much better turned off. Basically, the Synaptics settings changes the wrong registry bits when you click the little checkbox, that's no good. The fix is to go into regedit (yay!) and flip the bit yourself. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\ZoneConfig\TouchPadSMB2c\2FVertical Scrolling\UserZoneFlags (and why not go after the 2FHorizontal version too) and zero out the "twos" (2nd from right) place bit.  The GUI goes after the "fours" (third from right) place bit, I have no idea what that does. Convert the hexadecimal into binary, change the correct bit, put the value back into the registry, and reboot. I don't know how that wrong bit got set in the first place, but it looks like the GUI panel will mostly leave it alone from here on out.  Alterantively, you may try just setting the registry key value to plain old 1 (which looks like the bit to enable/disable 2 finger scrolling at all), and then flipping the GUI settings back to mostly how you like.  I would like to thank this post for their inspiration, between that and thi... I had a problem with two-finger scroll (2FS) in large Word documents. 2FS would not work in the document pane when the file is large. It would continue to work in any of the other panes (e.g., Navigation and Styles).  2FS worked fine in any other program. I tried all of the drivers available from HP and none seemed to work. I reloaded Office and that didn't fix anything. Finally, I went to the Synaptics site and downloaded their base driver for Windows 10 (19.0.19.1). That driver works fine. Answer:trackpad on w520 , hate it , makes my finger hurt

How long have you had your machine, and what did you use before? It's like a new pair of shoes, and once you use it for awhile, it will become comfortable. The consensus seems to be that the trackpoint is more convenient than the trackpad anyway. My machine is on order, and I'm coming from a MacBook Pro, which has a *very* nice trackpad. I'm sure I'll be complaining soon enough, but it will pass.

Hello all,
I own a Dell Inspiron N5547, updated from W8.1 to W10 Pro a few days back. The Dell Touchpad came installed with the upgrade, and for the first 2 days, all the gestures were working perfectly. On the third day, the three finger scroll up (for task view) stopped working and invokes Cortana instead. I went on the Dell Touchpad program and tried to untick the three finger tap for Cortana, but to no avail. Its really annoying, I tried to restart my latpop but faced the same problem.
I tried to search for solutions, one included uninstalling the Dell Touchpad from Programs and Features, then downloading the latest version from the Dell website. I did so, and installed it again, and once again for the first day the three finger scroll was working perfectly, but when I woke up the next morning, it started invoking Cortana again.
Does anyone face the same problem? And have any solutions? Thanks!

I know it's possible on other makes of laptop so why does lenovo disable the single finger scrolling options in the touchpad configuration ? I have seen this on various different modelsEssentially its just a customised version of the standard Elantech software, you can easily enable it with Acer machines using Elan touchpads for example or Hp  ones with a synaptics touchpad and even on Dell ones using a slight workaround so how come lenovo have the options removed ?I personally don't mind so much but my parents being older struggle to use 2 fingers, having the option to enable it for them would have been a big benefit. As it stands they may well be returning their laptop for an Hp oneIt just seems like a pointless customisation of a perfectly good driver, I could possibly understand it for windows 8.1 with the charms and edge swipe etc but all that has gone with windows 10 anyway so why not have a different version of the driver for use with windows 8.1 and let windows 7 or 10 users be able to use their touchpad in the way they prefer

Put two fingers down on the touch pad then after a moment scroll down. You can't begin scrolling with two fingers right away. You must first "place" them on the touch pad, then drag them down. (This is the way my touch pad works.)

Answer:Z50 70 touchpad scrolling one finger?

Hi Cubeblast,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are looking to perform touchpad scrolling one finger in your Z50-70 laptop.

To perform one finger scrolling go to control panel, select mouse option under mouse select ultranav tab,

Under ultranav select touchpad setting under setting select the drop down option

Under the scrolling, you can find two option as one finger scrolling and two finger scrolling, select the two finger scrolling.

Disable the two finger scroll option by unticking on the enable option, click on apply and ok button and check for the issue.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

I have seen one or two similar posts, but none quite like the problem I am experiencing, and none with a solution that works for me. Periodically, randomly, the 2 finger scrolling function on my y40 stops working. This used to occur maybe once a week, but recently it's been happening every day, sometimes more than once a day. I cannot determine any cause. Usually I am in google chrome when scrolling stops, but the scrolling stops functioning in all windows-- EXCEPT task manager, for some reason. If I open task manager, I can scroll within that window only, even while scrolling refuses to work in all other windows. Wen scrolling stops, I can still use 2 finger zoom, right-click-- I can do all of the other things I would do, just no scrolling (the one thing I use the most......)My synaptics driver is updated. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it. Checking and unchecking the 2 finger scroll functionality in synaptics properties does not help. What else can I possibly do to troubleshoot this problem? Right now, the only way I can re-enable 2 finger scrolling is to reboot my system, which is very, very annoying. Any suggestions would be welcome!

Answer:Y40: 2 finger scrolling spontaneously stops

BostonClem,Could you try to observe how to be able to replicate the issue again? Such as- Did it happen right out of box before adding all other programs?- What were running/opening when it happened?- What were installed in the system? It's very important for iron out the root causes and possible solutions.Thanks.

Hello everyone I have a S440 (touch version) and some Problems with two finger scrolling on the touchpad.First, it isn't smooth, i.e.. If I move my fingers it only starts scrolling after a second or so, basically when I've already stopped (unless I move very slow). It then makes up for the lost time by scrolling very fast. The more serious problem (that makes it practically unusable) is that it randomly jumps back up, often to the top of the page/document, sometimes just a page or so. The problems are worst with firefox and acrobat, with IE and the Microsoft reader there's no response time problem but the jumping upwards still occurs. The problem is there with the preinstalled Windows 8 as well as my own Windows 8 Pro (with the original Lenovo drivers). Scrolling with the Trackpoint and an external mouse work fine, as well as scrolling via the touchscreen.  Does anyone have any suggestion if/how I can fix this?

Answer:Problem with two finger scrolling on s440

I had the problem of the page jumping to the very bottom/top on my S431. Try going to device manager and checking the driver version for the driver for the UltraNav pointing device. In my case, after rolling back the driver the problem went away. The version I am using now is 16.4.2.4, I believe the newer driver was something along the lines of 16.6.x.x The synaptics utility for setting up multi-finger gestures will revert to an older version and won't be as pretty anymore, but at least you'll be able to scroll like a normal human being  I hope this will help.

Just received the XPS 13 9360 in the mail today. I am trying to figure out how to speed up the scrolling. I've been using a MacBook pro since 2011 and I am used to being able to scroll to the end of a page with one swipe. On this computer, I'll need wrist surgery after a month.
Everyone with other manufacturers seem to have ways of increasing the speed by opening up the software specific to the installed hardware, but Dell doesn't seem to have that. And the only scroll speed option that I can find in the mouse options is for a mouse, not a touchpad.
I really want this laptop to work. Please help me.

I'm getting some inconsistencies with two finger scrolling, where the touch pad doesn't always recognize my two spread fingers, so it doesn't consistently scroll in applications. Anyone else? (This is in Windows 8.1 for what it's worth.)
