Yoga 2 Pro Keyboard continuously floods characters in the keyboard buffer

Question: Yoga 2 Pro Keyboard continuously floods characters in the keyboard buffer

I bought this awesome, lovely and exquisite piece of technology innovation in August 2014.I have come to India and everyone loves it.Everything was fine until the last Saturday morning when I was typing an email. I got on a phone call for a while and it went in sleep mode. Pretty normal. I concluded the call and touched the space bar expecting the normal, quick wake up and the login screen. The login screen came up alright, but the password box was already filled. I tried to use backspace to clear the box and I missed a heartbeat! Nothing seemed to happen. So I force shut it holding the power button and after a minute bring it up again. Same scene! This has continued. I am going to be in India for a few months. So I checked with Lenovo service centers calling them. And I learn this model is not supported in India. My warrantee is valid, but of no use!I go to a local dealer, to no avail. I have lost my primary way of communication. Difficult to live this way. Right? SO I buy a toolset (expensive!), open the back cover and disconnect the keyboard cable. I put the cover back and start using it as a tablet only.It is serving me for now, but cant do this for long. What may be wrong? My friend is travelling to the US (San Jose) in a couple of weeks. Should I send it with him? Will Lenovo give me a replacement keyboard or whatever part? I have been a computer professional for 30+ years and used more than 6 laptops so far. Had bought this from my heart. Hate to see it paralysed. Any advise??? Thank you.

Preferred Solution: Yoga 2 Pro Keyboard continuously floods characters in the keyboard buffer

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Yoga 2 Pro Keyboard continuously floods characters in the keyboard buffer

I have this same problem but with my Y510p. It floods the 'Q' character.

The only solution which seems possible is a keyboard replacement (unless the connecting port is damaged, which is highly unlikely). I have ordered a keyboard and it is on the way.

As for your scenario, I would say that if you friend is going to be in US for more than 2 months then it is fine to send it with him for repairs. You could also order a keyboard online and replace it yourself (I ordered on ebay).
Check your manual on lenovo website for supported keyboard part number.

Tip -
To disable a malfunctioning keyboard like yours, you can either disconnect it physically (like you did)
OR
You can go into Control Panel > Device Manager > Keyboards
Select the laptop keyboard and manually install a wrong keyboard driver.
This way the keyboard wont be recognized and wont work.

Hi, I bought a Lenovo Essential G580 on 15th May 2013. Everything was working perfectly until yesterday when my keyboard started to type random characters. I had just put my laptop to sleep on the night of 20th July 2013 and when I switched on the laptop on the evening of 21st July 2013 the keyboard started typing random stuff. There has been no spillage on the laptop as its safely covered on my table and I am the only one living in my room. Also to make sure its not because of a software glitch, I tried the following: 1. Restarted the system multiple times2. Went to an earlier System restore point. (Tried 5 different one's)3. Refreshed the system4. Took a backup and Formatted the whole hard disk and reinstalled Windows.5. Switched off the laptop for the night and tried switching it on today morning. None of the above helped. So obviously it is not a software problem. (FYI: The Onscreen Keyboard just works fine) A few example stuff which I get when I press the keys: CAPS Lock: WX (When I press Caps lock key it types WX along with it so the pattern goes like this: WXwxWXwxWXwx and so on if you keep pressing caps lock)q: When I press q its types a tab with qwm: its types yum instead of mw: works like caps lock key. Turns on Caps and types WX too.x: same as wBackspace: Backspace deletes one character and along with that presses the enter key too The keys in the middle row i.e.. asdfghjkl are all working fine. The problem seems to be with t... Read more

hi bijoy3d,

Welcome to the Forums.

What you can try is to reseat the keyboard ribbon (see page 49-51 of the hardware maintenance manual). If that doesn't work, there's really something wrong with the physical keyboard and you need to contact lenovo support for service.

Hi! I've got Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 Silver (https://www.alza.cz/EN/lenovo-ideapad-yoga-13-silver-d375124.htm), and while I am quite content with the device, my keyboard stopped working. I was wondering whether any of you might know and suggest an online reseller (official or otherwise), where I could get hold of a replacement keyboard. Now, I suppose backlit keyboard versions of newer Yoga laptops will not work I guess, will they? From what I have read Yoga 13 Silver does not have the slot required for backlit, but aside that, will the keyboard function and will it fit (dimension-wise)? If so, what is the voltage and current required? Would soldering a small battery to the backlit cable be a good idea (I accept the fact that I wouldn't be able to regulate it)? Thank you in advance!ck

While in laptop mode, and typing on the built-in physical keyboard or a keyboard attached via USB, the on-screen keyboard will randomly pop up, taking away focus (particularly noticeable when using extended desktop on an external display) and eating up half of the screen real estate.  As soon as I press the next key on the physical board, the on-screen keyboard minimizes itself.  Sometimes it will pop up when I'm not even touching the laptop! Anyone else experience this and/or know how to stop it?  It's the only thing about this machine that drives me absolutely nuts.  It seems to be random.  I can't pin it down and haven't found any similar reports via Google search. Thanks in advance.

So I purchased a Lenovo X1 Yoga in Japan and I absolutely hate Japanese keyboard layouts (anyone that has used one after using a US keyboard knows what I mean - a space bar that is smaller than the enter key, poor placement of certain keys, specifically ", ', and @. There is just no logic behind any of it and honestly, there is no need. One can easily type in Japanese, just fine, with a standard US English layout keyboard. Sorry, I guess I didn't need to state that, but perhaps it will help with SEO to ensure someone finds this page when searching for those keywords.  Anyway, I finally found the information I needed to swap this keyboard out (and throw it in the trash), even though Lenovo support in Japan basically told me it's not possible. It does seem like a huge undertaking though (as you basically have to dismantle the entire laptop to get the keyboard out). But it does seem as though the English keyboards are compatible with all X1 Yoga laptops (even my Japanese X1 Yoga). The Lenovo customer service staff told me to get FRU PN: 00JT864 (00JT864 N KBD,US,LB,screw,CHY,Backlit), which is the US English replacement keyboard. It's also specified on the PDF document  on this page (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/PD103738 ) for the 20FR and 20FQ. Scroll half way down and you will see it.  However, I am having trouble finding the keyboard from a seller in Asia, with the same FRU #. When searching for 00JT864, the only source I can... Hey guys, after some excersize, I got on my laptop and had  a few drops of sweat land on the keyboard and trackpad. I turned the laptop off shortly after, this was 6:30pm yesterday and now at 7:00 am some of the keys are still acting wonky. I gotta say I am very worried as this is my school laptop. At the same time I thought the Thinkpad Yoga keyboard was spill resistant. What can I do to remedy this situation. Again I didn't even spill anything. Current model specs do not offer a backlit keyboard. However, the keyboard is same size/dimensions as other models that have the backlit keyboard. Does the Yoga have power feed for the backlit cable?  Is it a single cable (power and data) or the usual two cable type (one for power, one for data)? I can find replacement backlit boards, but don't want to spend the money if I can't get it to work. Compatible models with backlit KB:Ideapad Y series models Y400 & Y480Ideapad Z series models Z400 & Z500

Question: Keyboard buffer?

Every once in awhile, when playing a game where I only use the keyboard, my computer will beep once while using the keyboard and for that second the keyboard basically doesn't work. For instance, I was playing a tennis game on the computer and was playing and was going to swing and the computer beeped once and I didn't swing even though I had pushed the button to swing. Is this a problem w/ the keyboard buffer? And if so, how can I fix it?

Answer:Keyboard buffer?

I have that same problem when I hold down a key for a while when I am playing a game. I am unsure how to fix it, but releasing the key and waiting fixes it temporarily. Try checking your game resolution and refresh rate to see if it's slowing down your computer alot.

Ok, so changing the keyboard buffer limit. I was just wondering if there was a number I could reach that would potentially render my keyboard useless. Any recommended buffer limits for gamers?

(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
KeyboardDataQueueSize REG_DWORD 0x00000064 (100)

Registry Settings
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Kbdclass\Parameters]
Value Name: KeyboardDataQueueSize
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)

I want as big of a buffer as I can get, any suggestions as to what a good value would be?

Hi,

My sister's computer (her kid's computer) has a problem, a continuous string of text keeps being typed whenever there is a text field or input; this happens throughout the system. The text isn't random it just keeps typing "lololol" even with the keyboard disconnected. So I'm guesssing it a script thats running.

I havn't taken alook at the computer yet, but I'm 100% there is something odd going on. I plan to boot into safe mode and just scan the computer. However I havn't came across this problem before and not much information regarding this on Google (I'm not sure what the correct term for this type of problem is).

Is there any other precautions or measures I should take to remove this? My sister was thinking of just wiping the entire system.

Thanks for any replies.

I have a Lonovo Ideapad Yoga 13 and the touchscreen keyboard/on screen keyboard just keeps popping up. I've done everything that I have found on the internet to stop it, and it'll stop for about a 24 hour period, and then just continue. I have stopped it in services at least 4 times now. It used to pop up while I was typing with the actual keyboard, but I have not had that problem for about 2-3 days. My problem now is that it pops up whenever I touch the screen with my finger to type (mouse is fine, finger is not). This is probably my favorite computer I've owned, but this is seriously incredibly annoying and I'll do whatever to get rid of it, if there's anyway to uninstall it from my computer completely, I'm happy with that too.

I have a B50-30 and sometimes it doesn't acknowledge keystrokes from my USB keyboard. I have used the keyboard with a laptop and tried a different keyboard with the desktop. the problem is only evident on the desktop regardless of us keyboard (i am using the onscreen keyboard to type this). The USB board will work for a while and then start missing characters, typically vowels (!). I have checked the ease of access options and everything is turned off including filter keys. It is particularly bad at the moment, but might work for days at a time.

You have to use the number pad. On your laptop you may have a NumLock key which will activate the numbered keypad - for example on mine with NumLock on J=1, K=2, L=3 (the numbers should be marked on the keys).

Can anyone recommend a PS2 wired multimedia keyboard where the characters have not woen off or gone dull.I`m using a Genius slimstar at the moment but the characters are wearing off and it`s less than a year old.On previous keyboard the letters faded.I don`t mind spending a bit more if I know it will last longer.

Answer:Keyboard characters worn

I think most Genius' stuff is aimed at the budget end of the market. Stick to a known good make that do better keyboards & you should be OK. I would buy either Logitech / Microsoft, but not from their budget range. Perhaps 15 or over for Logitech click here / And 20 or over for Microsoft click here. Compare prices with other places, & try to read as many reviews before purchasing. I prefer wired keyboards as the signal rarely/never fails.I have an 8-year old Logitech Internet Navigator wired keyboard (click here) where none of the characters are beginning to wear off, or even getting dull. I purchased it secondhand(!) at the time, & it has had several hours of daily use, including playing games for at least 20% of that time. The trouble is they are not available to buy atm. G

Hi - I'm using Vista Business.

When using an office program, certain characters do not show up correctly. For instance the '@' symbol (shift+2) shows up as quotes.

Here's the strange part. I can type normally in notepad. This suggests that there's a setting in Office??

In either case, I tried changing Vista's language settings by right clicking the taskbar -> toolbars but the 'languages' toolbar does not appear. In other words, i don't have any other languages installed.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

I've got one of these Logitech mouse/keyboard wireless combis. Last night the keyboard started playing up. Hitting either the T or V keys types both characters. Its the same with C or E and N and U. Other keys cause windows to open, among other random happenings. Rather annoying as some of these characters are in my log on password. If I did not have the Wacom on screen keyboard at startup I would have been up the creek. Running Vista Home Premium. I have changed batteries, and tonight I will try it with a bog-standard keyboard. if this is ok I suppose its time to ditch the Logitech and get a new one. Just wandered if anyone had any ideas.

A closed friend of mine brought a Win8 laptop (Acer) last week. She ran into 2 problems which I have some problems helping her to resolve.

1/ The laptop (Win8) was setup using her Microsoft account which used her email account... She has an existing skype account using her gmail address. When she tried to access skype on the new computer, preinstall skype wants her to merge the existing skype (with gmail) account with her Microsoft account (which uses her ISP email address). She does not want to do that and wants her existing gmail skype account. Is the only way out is to uninstall the preinstalled skype in the new laptop and reinstall skype again? This way, she can use the existing skype account associated with her gmail.

2/ On the new laptop, the special characters like ~, !, @, #. $. %. ^ (i.e. those keys with dual characters) are stuck at some strange characters which she cannot get out of. These keys when strike display those funny European characters. (My friend is in Canada and when she setup her laptop, she chose English Canada). Is the keyboard defective or the language chosen during setup was incorrect? Note, when I remote in, the control panel clearly stated the language used is English Canada.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Skype and keyboard characters

1. Reinstall and Install Skype but use the desktop version.

2. Is the PC fully updated to Windows 8.1 Update 1 + All windows updates?

Just recently my Y510 appears to be inputting false keystrokes. I use both Windows Vista and Windows 7 OS's and the same thing happens with both.  Depending on the applications that are running, and only for the current active window - these false inputs will have different effects, but always consistent within the app that is in focus, e.g. in MS Outlook, a regular signal will cause the presently selected e-mail from the inbox to be prepared for forwarding (but without a forwarding address, is not sent)  This will happen time and again if left and many new windows are initiated over a period of a couple of hours.  Other apps will have other effects - e.g. MS Word will start an uninitiated word search, etc. etc. It may be that one of the keys has a physical problem - but none that I have noticed in regular use.

Answer:Ideapad Y510 - keyboard buffer problem?

Looked up the forwarding command in Outlook, it is CTRL+F: Outlook Shortcuts I'm not sure, but it may be a defective keyboard. As it seems to be random and not triggered, it may be hard to diagnose without sending it off to Lenovo.

Brand new MSI GE620 laptop purchased about a month ago running windows 7.

The first time i noticed the error was about an hour after setting it up. The PC locked up for about 3 seconds then resumed normal operation.

Second instance occurred a few months later but the lock up was roughly 30 seconds longer.

Third and forth instance occurred a week ago then again today, both roughly 30 seconds of lockup.

Prime 95 for 5 hours Checks out
Ram tests Check out
CHKDSK checks out
Increased the values of the buffer size in registry to 200, up from 100.

I have a feeling this won't help because the error occurs even if I'm not typing.

I use the laptop quite extensively for packet tracer and VMware so i would like to avoid sending it back to the manufacturer if i can help it.

Thanks in advance for any insight on the problem.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the temperatures are fine. usually never dip over 80C.

Answer:Mouse/Keyboard ring Buffer Overflow

Umm, 80C is bad. It shouldn't go much above 70C in Prime95.

When does it "lock up"? It has to be doing something big for it to lock up.

What error?

Just purchased Tosh. NB200 and found the key board has misplaced characters - for example the @ symbol is found by shift '' and the tilda ~ symbol is found by shift back slash backslash is the hash and the hash symbol key is the pound sign.

Obviously the keyboard is set to an alternative configuration - how the heck do I set it to function as it is marked?

Any help much appreciated.

Answer:[SOLVED] keyboard wrong characters

Either you are in a Non-US English location and have the US layout, or vice-versa
US Shift+2 is @
UK Shift+2 is "

Control Panel | Language and Regional Options
On Regional tab, select the correct language for your location.
Click the Languages tab, then click the Details... button
Select the correct Default input language. This should also install the correct keyboard
Under Installed services, if the incorrect keyboard is shown, click the Add... button
Select the language and layout, and click OK
You can remove the other keyboard if needed. Helps to keep it from getting switched back accidentally.

Firstly can I apologise if this thread is in the wrong place. The problem I am having is driving me mad, and while I don't think it's a hardware issue, I had no idea where else on this site to post.

Now to business...

My PC seems to be typing random numbers whenever any text box is selected in any program or website. Please note it is a PC, not a Laptop. All the solutions I have found so far relate to the touch pad on Laptops but that can't be the issue here.

When I unplug the keyboard the PC continues to type random numbers. On restarting the PC the problem goes away for a while, but soon raises it's ugly head again. Sometimes the issue gets even more bizarre and extreme whereby pressing keys on the keyboard will launch programs. For instance, the other day I pressed "S" and the PC loaded Windows Media Player!

I have searched and searched for answers, trying everything I can think of, but the results from Google tend to be unhelpful when you type in things like "Help, my keyboard's gone loopy" or "keyboard random characters". Incidentally, it's favourite character to type is the number "8".

The closest thing I came to a solution was someone suggesting that somewhere deep within the PC virtual keys are getting stuck...the PC thinks I'm holding down the "8" key for example. Sadly I couldn't verify this and have no idea how to solve it!

The PC in question is rather *ahem* "basic... Read more

Answer:Random Characters Typed by Keyboard

It almost sounds like your Accessibility onscreen keyboard has been messed with. Or specfic hotkeys have been allocated to do something and have gone awry. It's an issue within the PC and you might have to suggest a repair to the particular system to right the problem. Jazz

My girlfriend has a keyboard by eMachines whose top row begins with 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. Recently, when she types a "1" it outputs as /, a "2" will give her 1, a "3" will giver her 2, a "4" will give her 3, etc. None of the other rows of keys on the keyboard have this problem.

Let me just begin by saying that I have already tried going into "Regional Settings, etc." but simply can not find the right layout to match my girlfriend's keyboard. All of the layouts I have tried have the number "1" as the second key on the top row, and not the first.

Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Hey, i run XP and am having an issue with my keyboard not inputting the correct character on certain keys when shift is held down. This same thing happens when i use either keyboard a basic PS/2 and a USB Steelseries Merc Stealth which i install drivers for.
Some examples of the problem are pressing shift + 2[top row] should input " but inputs @ : Shift + 3 should input pound sign but instead inputs # : shift + @ should input @ but instead inputs "
I have tried removing all my drivers through divice manager and rebooting letting xp reinstall ect, removing all my usb keyboard drivers and software and reinstalling ect still the same issue with both keyboards, exactly. At first i thought that because i am based in the UK and my USB keyboard is from the US that was the issue but its the same problem with my standard PS/2 keyboard which got me thinking that it can only be somthing related to XP or some settings in XP.
Any help as always welcome, thanks in advance.

Here's what the Keyboard driver window keeps telling me:

Under general tab:

Device Type: Keyboards

Device status: This device is working properly.

Under Driver Tab:

Hi,
I noticed this issue in the past few days. When I press the apostrophe key, the cursor moves but it does not show anything. If I press it again, it will show 2 apostrophe signs and then if I backspace, it might or might not show the first one.
I thought it was an issue with my surface 3 but now I've also seen the same behaviour in my laptop
My laptop also has had the apostrophe and @ keys swapped though I think I know why that is so.
What could the issue be? I've not had time to troubleshoot the issue but maybe someone has an idea?

Checked older posts and found a request similar to mine. I need to reconfigure my keyboard for Asian characters for my daughter's online Japanese course.

There was a reply to the older thread from Outlawstar15a2:

Anyway this website should help I found this via a forum post on another website apparently it's already copied to the hard drive all you need to do is tell XP to install them.

http://newton.uor.edu/Departments&Pr...lation_XP.html

Theres the step by step process to follow. If you still need to find the files then I'll see if I can find them Ironically I have a XP CD I don't think this computer will be able to run XP unless I find XP drivers for everything on this computer but I should still be able to to find the files if I can find the CD. If you give me your email address I can make a better suggestion.

So here's where I'm at- I tried the link and it gives a walk-thru but after Step 4 it still asks for the XP disc to finish installing the files. I was able to get the language school to email me a zip file, but after unzipping and rebooting....it doesn't work either. I get to the same step (4) and again, it asks for the disc.

My pc was built for me...OEM Windows but it was a multiple license issue and I didn't get any recovery discs for it. The shop that built it went out of business a couple of years ago when the owner fell ill, so no chance of getting a copy at this point.

Any suggestions???? Than... Read more

Answer:XP keyboard config for Asian characters

Hi

As far as I can remember you do need to have an XP CD as it needs some files off it, does a friend or neighbour have one you can borrow to just get past this section.

Could try this and when it asks for the CD, see if you can browse to this location C:\i386 (its on your HDD and where most of the XP files on install are kept, but still think the ones you need are one the CD until needed)

As you did a copy and paste of that old post the link is dead so here it is for everyone to read http://newton.uor.edu/Departments&P...pt/Language/asianlanguageinstallation_XP.html

I bought an M60 for my wife and she has complained that it is constantly skipping characters. I have found the same problem. E.g. typing URLs into internet explorer or composing emails, it will miss characters 10% of the time. I've seen a couple of posting about this in the forums.

Good old Dixons are refusing to refund the purchases as someone called me today to say that she can't see any problem with the keyboard.

Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

Answer:Keyboard issue on M60 (skipping characters)

Everyone who owns a M60 is suffering from this problem. The product should be recalled and this problem should be fixed. I don't think its a firmware issue as external keyboards work fine. Take it back to Dixons, get them to show you another one and make sure they type sentences and not just random keys. Also get them to compare to another notebook.

Answer:Alt+ characters on Lenovo T430 keyboard

In order to execute those ASCII/ANSI codes, you must have NumLock on.  The involves the Fn (blue) key.  With it on, you then use alt  = the small numbers located on the lower right coner of keys to the right of the Trackpoint head.  This is not easy.  I prefer to run charmap.exe, minimize it to the task bar, and copy/paste the characters I need. I don't know if the old standard way (Num Lock On, ALT+nnn) would work with an external full keyboard.

Answer:keyboard typing wrong characters

It is necessary for you to replace the keyboard. It is not sending the correct signals to the motherboard. Yes, even a notebook computer has a replacable keyboard. It's a job best assigned to a qualified computer technician, to find and order a compatible keyboard, and to disassemble the laptop far enough to be able to swap the keyboard.

somehow my son changed a setting that will not allow the same key to be pressed unless you delay a bit. it is really a pain if you have double letters or want to space quickly more than once

Answer:keyboard repeat duplicate characters

do a system restore.

- click on the Start Button.
- on the Start Search box, please type System Restore.
The result will be shown just above it, please click on the system restore.
- on the System Restore window, you will have there 2 options. First option is the recommended restore and the Second one is the choose a different restore point.
- you can try the first option, if there is no changes then try the second option.
- after choosing the different restore point it will give you list of restore points.
Put a check mark to a box that says show restore points older than 5 days for more options. It will give you choices up to what point would you want to restore your system to.
- it will ask for a confirmation and it will reboot.

Hello a while back my friend spilt a bit of soda on my laptops keyboard, I dried, and flipped my PC over flat on a towel. There was no damage for about a month, but now some key do multiple actions. Example: Pressing (Backspace) now moves the curser to the right one space, turn my volume down once, and then Backspace. Is there a way to fix this myself or would I have to take my PC into a repair store? Or have to replace my keyboard entirely?
