Are my many Lenovo power adapters (w. round plug) compatible with Yoga 13 through plug converter?

Question: Are my many Lenovo power adapters (w. round plug) compatible with Yoga 13 through plug converter?

So I've happily stayed with Lenovo for a number of years - I have a laptop power supply in almost each room of my house and in back pack. That's a total of six. My Yoga 13 is on order, but I'm getting cold feet: I'd really like to not have to buy 5 new power adaptors for a total of 12 Lenovo power adapters, 6 round, 6 blocky, given that I for some reason I still usually have to walk to the next room to retrieve one of my six adapters that seem to randomly migrate between places under the bed, behind the water closet, tugged under the desk, and so... Is there (yet?) a fantastically simple plug converter, round (female) to blocky (male), that will attach with a strap to the end of the 20V cable of my existing converters so that each can serve both blocky and round needing Lenovo devices? I image each plug would cost $1 and that Lenovo would sell a bag of 10 of 'em for $10 as part of the customer loyalty program? /Lenovski

Preferred Solution: Are my many Lenovo power adapters (w. round plug) compatible with Yoga 13 through plug converter?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Are my many Lenovo power adapters (w. round plug) compatible with Yoga 13 through plug converter?

There no plug converters, and the Yoga power plug is not compatible with previous Lenovo power adapter plugs.

I verified the PSU is good.
I removed all drives, all cards, even memory.
All the fans spin for a moment then nothing they stop.

I assume the MB is now destroyed? A GTX 260 has two 6 pin power connectors, since the PSU only had one 6 pin power connector, I thought to try it.

MB is Asus P5QC
So is it dead?

Answer:Plug in GTX 260, hooked up one 6 pin power plug, motherboard wont post

Did you read the GTX 260 manual to see if it has to have the two connectors on?
This is an old MB, so it has a story. Tell us how did you get it and what memory, GPU etc it has before.
With no memory it won't boot. Do you have a speaker connected to the MB so you can hear the beeps when you turn it on?
Witch power supply you have? GTX 260 requires 500W as minimum.

In case of USB pen drives this thing didn't happen.

Does anyone else have an issue with this adapter slipping out of the socket? This new design they have has all the weight directly on the plug and extending outwards from the wall. So unless the socket is very slug, it frequently falls out. Especially in cafes and the like, the moment someone jostles the cord even lightly, the adapter often slips out of the socket. I realize this is a strange thing to take issue with, but I encounter it all the time when I'm not at home. Has anyone else run into this? Joseph

Answer:Yoga 900 Power Adapter falls out of plug socket

Hi Joseph ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

What you are describing about the port is not natural for the Yoga 900.
The moment that it failed the wiggle test , it only goes that the dc in cable port may not be clipping it in as it was suppose to do.

I would recommend cheking on your covered warranty and call in tech support for the repair.

Hope this helped direct you to your next step regarding this issue .

I was troubleshooting why my daughters Yoga 13 would not charge battery and then stopped working even when plugged in.  If I left it sit for week or two till battery was 100% dead it would charge all the way up, soon as you turned it on it would work but over 1 hours or so drain the battery till dead and Yoga would die.  Here is what I found.  The green yellow and red wires must have been just touching in the heatshrink as Iifted the plug gently I could see they were broken at the solder joint.  I resoldered them then just to be sure it never happened again I hot glued where all 5 wires connect so never going to move.   Been working for over a month. :-)

Hi. I got a small issue with my brand new Lenovo E540 ThinkpadIt is working great exect the fact that each time i plug it to the charger, the screen turns off for 2 secs. Is this normal? Anyone else got this before? Or is this some kind of a drivers issue ?I can't understand or imagine what the problem might be. Please give me some advice if you canMany thanks !

Answer:Lenovo E 540 Power plug - Screen issue?

Try install "Intel(R) Driver Update Utility" --->"Auto detect and recommend drivers" ---> and update the "Intel Iris Pro" driver. Mine didn't have this problem, but such and update manage to repair some issues that I've had with display brightness. You can try.

Okay so this was hard to title so I'm sorry if it wasn't very accurate. So I am looking into replacing my families home modem (Arris TM722 leased by Comcast) with the Arris SURFboard SB6190. At first when looking into this I believed we didn't have a Comcast phone line (because we use Frontier as our phone provider), however I recently was made aware that we actually do have a Comcast phone line because it was part of a bundle to make our Internet + TV service cheaper. Now I am currently looking into if we can remove the phone from our bundle and save any money from Comcast.

However assuming (as I do) that we either can't or it won't save us any money, is there any way I can buy that SB6190 and some sort of adapter or something so I can still have our Comcast phone setup and functioning? Or am I stuck with the only option of instead buying the Arris TM822G or the Arris TG862G?

Thanks!

Answer:Do adapters exist so I can plug in a phone to my modem?

Pretty sure there is no adapter you can use.

However, since you are looking to get rid of the comcast phone to save money, you may want to look into getting a magic jack.

$35 a year for unlimited local and long distance calling and you just use a regular phone with it. And the magic jack is also on sale right now.. so you effectively get the magic jack for free.

Hello!
I have a tiny USB fiber optic Xmas tree that was given to me as a gift and it can only be used when plugged into a USB port when the computer is on. Then the tree lights up, the colors change, and all that.
I would like to use this device when the computer is not on, thereby plugging it into a wall outlet. It is a very small simple little fiber optic tree 5V, and I'd rather not burn the little thing to pieces by purchasing the wrong adapter.
Some adapters are for charging only, aren't they? I'm not really charging this device just letting it run. Any advice?
Thank you in advance.

Answer:Adapting a USB device to plug into AC - converter to buy?

The charging adapters will be just fine, all they are doing is supplying the correct voltage. The more expensive ones can provide more milliamps for bigger USB devices (like a 10" tablet as opposed to something like an iPod Shuffle). I'd say you could buy the cheapest one possible, but you may want to check the tree for its amperage draw and be sure you don't get a wall adapter that provides less than the tree wants.

I should first mention that I used Trojan killer on a system fix malware

Is there a way to restore these or is there a way to copy my registry to his for restoration because we both have windows xp.
thank you for any help and comments

Hi

I would be tempted to follow the below first as you mentioned malware it maybe the case that all the malware is not removed yet, not all apps can remove malware automatically and for some malware variants you may need human expert eye and instruction to remove.

Please read and follow the following READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide and once finished please start a new thread in the Malware Forum plus a guide on how to attach the logs HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post Click to expand...

Bought Y410 for daughter a few years ago.  She called the other day and said the DC receiver plug was loose and she could not plug in to charge battery or work on house current.  Opened cover above processor and cooling fan and found that the plug was just laying in the proper position but was not connected to anything to hold it in place.  No broken parts, just loose.  Removed fan and copper tubing with fins (heatsink) and removed masking tape and removed wire sleeve (2 red and 2 black bundled wires) from canal track under the cooling fan.  I then was able to lift the Y410 dc power jack harness out of the laptop.  My question is:  how was this connector end mounted and stabilized in the socket mount next to the hole where the charger plug mates with the inside harness.  I see nothing broken, and it will fit back in its location, but there is nothing to hold it in place!  Was it glued in some form or fashion.  This is the weirdest thing I have ever seen.  There is no bracket or no screw holes that look as if there was something holding this connector in place.  My daughter has been very pleased with this laptop, but this problem had me scratching my head.  Any help would be appreciated.  I thought I would find something searching the net about this problem.  Found many consumers having major problems with internal charging plugs connection in all brands.  Bought ... Answer:DC Internal Plug in a 3000 Y410 5575 now moving can't plug in to charge

Yeah, it's the way they are manufactured. Actually, all laptops are this way. It's so that if the plug needed servicing, it can be fixed quickly in the facility. Now, for getting it fixed. If you feel comfortable with a soldering iron, it's a really easy fix. Just hold the jack in place, and apply a little bit of solder to re-attach. Being the person I am, I would put a dash of super glue to hold it in place. But not until I verify that the power outlet is working. Now, if the power plug is fried, there are always similar jacks that you can find on auction sites for cheap that will do the job. But yes, resoldering it should fix it. And the lack of mounting is standard across all brands and makes.

I have an almost fresh install of xp on my desktop and want to avoid cluttering the hard drive with stuff to slow it down. One of the things I have noticed is that media players seem to reproduce like rabbits...media player comes with windows...then some website will say that it can't live without having real player installed...and then another one...my favorite is VLC...and of course, itunes....

I noticed that there is a plug-in to make Firefox work with VLC I think there are also other plug-ins for other media players as well. What exactly do these things do? If I have the plug-in do I have to install the software? Do they improve the ease of use of the media player? the quality of the sound? do they reduce the cpu load?

Answer:[SOLVED] Plug it in, plug it in...and media players

Media plugins allow the browser to play audio and video files in different formats on websites.

They are not all in use at the same time (just called on when needed by a website's embedded media player), so they don't slow down your computer or fill up your hard drive.

So currently I have my PC connected to the printer with a USB cable and my 10 year old printer works just fine. I'm turning my desktop into a wireless desktop for the time being and going to install a WiFi pci card in the tower. Once I get my computer connected online wireless. So if I take the printer USB cable from the back of the PC tower and plug it into the back of the router will the printer work right away or do I have to setup the printer within the routers 192.... page ? or will I have to install any extra router software programs on the PC to get the printer to work ? I'm just wondering what my steps will be.

Answer:So if I plug my printer to my router will it be plug&play ?

It really depends on your router. Some routers do have that functionality and are "smart" enough to realize what to do with a printer attached via USB ports. Some may require you to configure it on the router's setup, and others may not let you network your printer at all that way. You should probably count yourself lucky if your router does it at all... my router has USB ports, but they're basically only good for charging a phone... they planned a firmware update to do more with them, but it never came through.

The most foolproof way to network a printer is to get a model with an Ethernet port or a Wi-Fi card built into the printer that's just designed for networking. Any computer on the network will then "see" the printer and be able to install drivers for it without the router having to be smart. Failing that, you might have to plug the printer's USB cable into a computer of some kind... but the catch is, it doesn't have to be very powerful or large. A $5 Pi Zero or a $30 "print server" off Newegg would do the job. Basically, any old computer lying around with USB ports could most likely work as a print server if it can be configured with CUPS and the appropriate version of Samba.

I'm trying to set up my modem/router on a different cable outlet, and on the original one, we're using a modem that does our phone as well, I'm trying to set up a normal modem in another outlet, but when I set it up, all I get is "Limited Connectivity," I've tried with ethernet and wireless. I use that outlet for cable TV, is that same outlet not compatible with Internet?

I really need some help with this, I don't know anything about networking..

So any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I have a posting in network section, but not sure if that is the right spot. I am posting a question about my son's self built desktop he has had for years. He just had a new mother board and hard drive installed. The company that installed them insisted he put windows 10 on it. He finally got it home. But when he goes to install drivers for two different wifi adapters the monitor goes off but the brain stays on. It does this with and without ethernet cable attached. My other son downloaded and installed steam on it for him and nothing bad happened. Just the plug and play. Is it something with the windows 10 installation? Or does he need a new monitor on top of all this?

tried different monitor, tried downloading skyppe, did same thing. Knew monitor not compatible was long shot. Has anyone had this happen? Is this the black screen that everyone gets?

Answer:can monitors not be compatible with windows 10?/plug and play issues

Hi dtore.

How is the monitor connected?

When you say wireless adapters, two of them, are these cards plugged into expansion slots or are these USB connected?

Since you are now on Windows 10 did your son download the appropriate drivers from the vendors and have you reference site to see if there are identified issues with 10.

Not sure what you mean when you say "But when he goes to install drivers for two different wifi adapters the monitor goes off but the brain stays on."?

Also not sure how Steam plays into problem. Does it work if all networks connections are disabled?

Ken

Hello everyone,I purchased a Lenovo Yoga 13 about 3 years ago. Everything was running smooth until recently. For some reason now that I want to watch a movie on my TV through a HDMI cable the notebook powers off. No image appears, just goes completely dark and turns off. I updated the drivers. I have tried many different televisions (both expensive high quality tvs and not so good one) and HDMI cables and still the problems persists. I even factory restored the notebook and still shut down when I connect the hdmi to the laptop.  Could it be a harware problem? Can I replace the HDMI port on the notebook?

I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 running Windows 10. Whenever I'm running off of battery power and plug the charger in, it freezes the mouse. I can then unplug the charger and the mouse works again. That's the only way that I can find to get the trackpad to work. If I'm actively moving the cursor around as I plug the computer in, it's fine. Has anyone else experienced this and if so do you have any idea how to fix it? It's not like it's a major issue, but it would be nice to be able to just plug my computer in and keep rolling instead of having to move my finger around the track pad while I plug it in.

Hello there,I'm the IT for our office and have bought multiple Lenovo T450's and have them hooked up to docks. I also have multiple Yogas and have the same issue for both machines. After users have been out of the office working on their laptops, they hook their laptops up to their docking stations, but their mouses/keyboard's wont work. They are using the Logitech Mouse/Keyboard combo and also normal wired USB mice with the same issue. These are brand new laptops and this issue is happening right out of the box.I have went into Device Manager and uninstalled all USB items and then rebooted with the same issue. It eventually works after a while, but takes extremely long to acknowledge something is plugged in. The laptops won't acknowlede that something has been plugged in. Yesterday when I turned on my computer I received a message inviting me to install a new update to Java (Version 7 Update 25). After doing a precautionary search via Google that this was a legitimate update, I proceeded with the installation process. At the time I was using the Firefox browser (although I also use IE 9). Sorry I don't know the proper terms, but basically the pin inside the jack where the power cord gets plugged into on my laptop was bent so that it's really hard for me to plug in my power cord and have it stay in place. My warranty with best buy has expired, so I need to figure out how to solve this problem on my own. I can't just leave it like this because the cord comes out really easily and I can't continue to work with such a tenuous setup. Anyway, is this just a matter of replacing the entire unit inside my laptop? I know you probably need more information, but I'm not sure what to provide, so please ask any questions. The laptop is a Toshia M-45, about 3-4 years old. Thanks in advance

I went to radio shack and they could not find the right type of powerplug. I just need some direction I will also call Westinghouse on Monday but any support would be great.

Thanks

Answer:looking for a power plug

Welcome to Techguy! Don't feel bad about not knowing everything; we all suffer from that. Generally, monitors either use a standard 3 prong power connector just like your computer, or an external AC adapter, i.e. a power brick. Yours uses a brick. I did a quick search online, and found at least one vendor selling them: http://www.lcdpayless.com/productpage.php?productId=4794. However I don't know them, so don't take this as an endorsement. You might also find adapters on eBay. As long as you stick with top-rated vendors, I wouldn't be afraid to buy. You can also search more online using "westinghouse LCM 17v2ls power adapter" (no quotes) as your search string.

I usually use my Yoga 2 Pro with AC Adapter plugged in. I turn on Conversation mode in Lenovo Energy Manager and get a message of "Plug in - Not Charging" everytime the battery is already 60% charged. Does it mean that AC electricity will directly serve to run the laptop without going through the batttery like a desktop computer?
I'm worried this habit will ruin my battery lifetime.

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro - Does Plug in - Not Charging on Conversation Mode harm the battery?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Yes, when the charge level reaches 60% and you receive that message it means the battery is no longer receiving a charge and the laptop is being powered by the AC adapter.

No, using conservation mode will actually extend the health of your battery which means the battery will have a longer life time.   It is the continually charging when the battery's charge level reaches 100% level that will shorten the life of the battery.

Hi Has anyone had a problem with their yoga 2 pro shutting down when pluggin in a micro hdmi cable? And if so is this fixable? I noticed a user at notebookreview forum had the same issue but it seemed to go away using a different cable - I am just wondering whether, irrespective of whether it works with another cable, i should return my machine in case it goes wrong again in the future with a different cable that may work initially... Thanks

The recall information on your site informs us that if LS-15 is molded on to the plug then it needs to be replaced. Question: laptop power plug

We have a Lenovo 3000 N200 laptop but unfortunately my youngest has managed to split the dc low voltage (20v 90w) power plug moulding and has exposed the wire inside. It's well taped at the moment but i would like to get it fixed. Does any one know of a supplier of plugs or repair services, I'd rather look at the fix option first rather than spend 40 odd pounds on a new ac adaptor, unless of course the fix cost is comparable.

Answer:laptop power plug

You can probably fix it with Araldite.

I have a Dell Lattitude D530. I believe it's at least three years old. I have had it for a year and everything was working fine. My children (thirteen, ten, and eight) were using it and they said the plug kept falling out of the outlet and they said there was a spark when they plugged it into the outlet but it worked after that. Then all of a sudden the laptop went black. Assuming it was out of battery power, and well past thier bedtime...they returned the laptop to me. I plugged it in and the 'transformer box' on the plug worked when I plugged it into the power outlet but as soon as I plugged it into the laptop it lost power. Hence the blue power light on the 'transformer box' went out. I have to let it sit for about 15 minutes and plugged it back into the power outlet the blue light on the 'transformer box' came back on but once again as soon as I plugged it into the computer the blue light went out again. HELP!I have a Blockbuster DVD stuck in the laptop and I don't want to break it to get it out. Luckily it isn't due for a week. LOL!
I appreciate any help you can give me.

Answer:Power Plug Problems

there should be a tiny hole on the front of the DVD tray. You can insert a straightened paper clip in it and manually open the tray

It's a proprietary power adapter... you'll most likely have to look for a power adapter for that specific make/model in order to find one that works. The connector looks to be a mini-DIN.

Power plug put on any of 4 HDs kills all:

Search of this forum yielded 'hard drive that kills.'
All 4 of my HDs, I pray, shouldn't have gone bad at once.

In said thread, one mentioned resetting power supply - but didn't give sufficient info for me to understand how. Might have been describing what power supply does itself - see below.

=======
I can have power plug in cd/dvd drives and computer runs but I guess maybe no load, or less load than starting a HD?

Repeated many times. Kills all whether ribbons are on HDs or not. Does it w/any of all 4 HDs. Have to off switch at rear of power supply and wait 14 seconds or so for mobo light to off before can restart computer w/out HD or rekill computer w/HD - when HD is connected before start fans start to run but quit in less than a second.

Power supply over a year old but used little - and was expensive.

Have simple ohm/volt meter.
What could cause power supply to be damaged - how test my stuff?

Any way to test/get Power supply going?

Could it be anything else???

Answer:Power plug put on any of 4 HDs kills all.

hi mate, dont know if im stoned or its your post but i had to read it about 5 times to make any sense lol

anyway doesnt look good does it, when testing these drives are you trying different molex connectors or the same one?

do you have access to a spare supply to test

if you want to try testing the power supply, just go on youtube and search for "test power supply" better to see it than for me to try and explain

Ok... now i am having a real trouble. my Power cable to CPU fan plug is broken, not the fan, but the power to connect it to the fan(the male one). its 3 pin connector. there is one fan using 3 pin connector too from the MB (motherboard). i think its the fan for the motherboard. i am just wondering if i can use the splitter to the MB plug so i can connect it to both fan (motherboard and processor)
thanks..

Answer:POWER to CPU FAN PLUG Is BROKeN.. HELP!!!

Are you refuring to the 4 wire Molex adapter? If so, yes use that. Well, there are no molex plugs that plug into the mobo, there is the 20pin or 24, and the 4 wire, square one. But yes, you can use the 4wire molex adapter, that would be giving cdrom/hdd/video card power.

It is very unfortunate that the X1 has the power inlet on the left hand side and not at the back of the device, as with the T430s. But as most desktop setups do have power outlets build in the table top or at the back of the table it would be best for cable stress to have at least a 90degrees plug that allows the cable to go to the back and not stick on the side. Is there a (compatible) power supply with 90 degree plug available? Or can I buy compatible plugs at a hardware or electronics store?

Answer:Power plug 90 degrees

Presumably the power jack was relocated to the side of the X1C in order to allow the display panel to lay down flat with the main system unit. I agree that the side placement of the power jack is therefore less than ideal for the reasons you gave.

Can I plug in the power cable to a sata drive (already connected to sata port on mobo), while the computer is on.

With that drive connected Windows will not boot (I never have had a problem with the drive before, even when installing windows). If I remember right, a few years ago, I moved the pagefile to that drive, and it also had a boot.ini file on it (for some reason) I wonder if that is the problem (never until now), because when that drive is installed windows hangs at starting windows.

Answer:Plug in a sata power cable

If the SATA controller is set to AHCI mode, and the SATA port the drive is on is set to allow "hot-swap", then yes you could. If not, then no you can't.

You should post a screenshot of your Disk Management window with the problem drive connected. Expand the window so everything can be read.

I just rotate it clockwise until I get the *beep* programmed in that tells me from ThinkVantage it's charging. Now I want to permenently fix this. Is this a power plug problem or a internal motherboard/mainboard problem? I'm really hoping it's the first one since it's relatively easy and cheap to replace. Thanks. --Will

I recently purchased an HP Pavilion dv9700t laptop. The power connector attaches to the right side of the laptop and the plug is straight. Unfortunately, I do not have much spare room on the right side of the laptop where I typically use it and the plug/cord is interferring with my mouse. I've been scouring the internet looking for some kind of a right angle adapter that I could plug into the end of the power cord and then into the laptop so that the cord would immediately turn towards the rear of the laptop and give me more space for my mouse. Does anyone know where I could buy such an adapter?

Hi

Thanks for the Post.

In order to get the recovery of this issue, you need  to re-install Power Manager software from the below mentioned web link.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?

Afterwards, please perform the following steps.
Double-click the green "Power Manager" battery icon near the Windows' system clock, usually at the lower-right corner of the screen. If you cannot find this icon, click "Start," "All Programs," "Access IBM" and "Power Manager."Click the "Battery Information" tab at the top.Click "Battery Maintenance."Click "Perform Reset," and then click "Continue" on the confirmation dialog box. This procedure will take more time to complete, and you should not use your ThinkPad during that time. You will be prompted when the battery reset is complete.

Make sure AC adapter plug in when perfoming gauge reset and do not close the system.

Regards,
Sameer

I replaced a failed HP PSU 03057F3R with a "compatible" PSU from a supplier. There are 5 wires attached to the sata power plug for the failed PSU, but only 4 wires attached to the sata power plug for the compatible PSU. One of the 5 wires of the failed PSU is not connected to the molex plug but directly to the circuit board of the PSU.

The PC works fine with the compatible PSU and the hard drive seems to work fine with the 4-wire sata power plug which used to be connected to a 5-wire sata power plug. Should I be concerned that the use of the 4-wire sata plug will pose a safety or data problem for me?

after reading pdf for a day with my new x61t in tablet mode, I found something very irritating. with AC power plugged in, it's really hard to use the tablet in portrait mode. The thing is: If I hold the tablet on the battery with my right hand (this is comfortable), then the AC power plug will be at the button and it's hard to put on my lap. When I put the battery into my left hand, the power plug will be on top and the laptop rests easily on my belly. However, I notice that the hot air exit is now at the button, which is not good coz I somehow block the air flow. How do you put you tablet in portrait mode with AC power? A shot in the darkI have acquirred a Pentium 3 450 MOBO which I have fitted into a spare tower I have. It works fine I have installed the OS no probs. However it will not shut down - it gets to the point of "It is now safe to turn off your PC" and I can't. I have tried holding in the on/off button, doing a quick on/off nothing. I have also tried this with no HDD or other drives connected and it is the same. I know about enabling APM etc but it is nothing to do with that. All the wire connections to the MOBO from the tower do what they say and work properly as far as I can tell except I have one 4 pin connector left over with a black and a red wire connected to two of the 4 pins and the others empty. I can find nowhere for it to go it is a similar connector to an audio connector that goes into a cd drive I wondered if it was the tower speaker and if so its a red herring. I have replaced the PS with 2 differenrt ones no joy. I appreciate this is a difficult one to call remotely but does anyone have any ideas.Mike

The plug in the wall socket from computer seems to get hot ,is this normal ?.Thank You.

Answer:Plug on power cable to computer

No, it isn't normal. The power drawn by a computer is very low in comparison to what a standard 13A plug is able to deliver.I suggest the first thing you do is check the fuse in the plug. Quite often these are not changed from the standard 13A which these "kettle plugs" are usually supplied with. The correct rating for a computer is 3A. If the fuse is wrong, you change it to the correct rating. If it blows then there is something very wrong which you should get checked out by a professional.

I have been watching my power usage regularily, and for what I am doing, I never see a draw above 70 W, let alone the 170 that the huge brick can provide. I have a brand new 90 watt charger that would be much more convenient for me when I go away for a weekend, and want to check my email. I could run the laptop off batteries, and turn it off and charge it up. I am certain the 90W or even the smaller 65W charger will work fine. The problem is that plug on the W700 is special  I need an adaptor, or attach a new plug to the wire. Let me know please if any of you find the correct plug.

Answer:has anyone found a power plug for the W700?

don't think there is one that you can use on the W700.

I have noticed on my 1 year old W500 that the power plug that inserts into the back of the laptop (right next to the battery) is becoming loose. I see the electric plug icon at the bottom of the screen intermittently light indicating the power is not consistently being applied. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Is it a loose motherboard connector or a poorly fitting power plug?

Answer:W500 Loose Power Plug

do you have warranty? it is usually the power plug on the laptop that is going faulty. The power point on the laptop is connected to the laptop motherboard through a cable, so moving it as such should affect it in the way you describe it.

I need an extra SATA plug than my PSU has to offer. Taking an old PSU, I snipped off a Molex 4 pin plug, and a couple of SATA plugs, thinking to "fix me up a solution". Problem is, the molex has a red, a yellow, and two black wires. The SATA has a red, a yellow, two blacks... and an orange wire. What do I hook the orange wire to?

Answer:Molex plug to SATA power

There are also other, smaller connectors, most of which have four wires: two black, one red, and one yellow. Unlike the standard mains electrical wire color-coding, each black wire is a ground, the orange wire is +3.3 V, the red wire is +5 V, and the yellow wire is +12 V.

Hi all.Yesterday, the PSU on my computer which is approximately 4 weeks old died. Luckily this will be fixed by Medion sometime next week hopefully however it got me thinking. This is the 4th power supply that has gone (3 in a different computer) whilst connected to the same plug in my room.Connected to the plug socket in the wall is a double plug with two extensions: a 4 way extension which keeps my TV, DVD player and video player in electrical supply and an 8 way extension with surge protection which satisfies the needs of my computer system. Connected to the 8 way extension are 2 monitors, surround sound system, computer, router, printer, scanner and an iPod charger. Admittedly this is possibly too many pieces of equipment to be supplied from one plug socket but it has only recently had so many additions. To me, 4 power supplies dying whilst all connected to the same plug indicates that there is something wrong but I would expect one of the other devices to be affected also which isn't the case. Do you think I'm just unlucky with PSUs or could my theory have some substance? Thanks very much for any input.

Answer:Can a plug kill a power supply?!

I would suggest you purchase a surge protected extention socket, to plug into instead of a normal unprotected one.It is possible for surges to cause damage. There is even a surge generated when a fridge switches on or off for instance.the surge protected extention sockets are only a couplr of pounds dearer than a normal, so better be safe than sorry, if you are having problems.

My laptop is X61.Now my laptop sometimes(50% chance maybe I don't know) will auto turn on when plug the AC power in. It's not good for me because I like to press the "POWER" key to turn on by myself. And it happens sometimes, really not good for estimating. This problem happens after I update the BIOS to the latest version "7NETC1WW(2.21)", I like to flash back to the orginal version but don't know how to do. Could anybody can help me in this matter? Or is there any other solution such adjust the bios functions to avoid this problem? Thanks a lot in advance

Answer:X61 auto turn on when plug in the AC power, HELP!

backdating the bios is same as updating the bios, just download the older bios software and go through the same process.

Hallo,I use a IdeaPad 100S (Win 10). Sometimes I use this Laptop for a couple of hours. Here is my question: Is it better to plug the power supply while working or is it better to use the battery till it is empty (~20%)? Or what is the best solution to save the battery.

When I got back from work today I tried to turn my laptop on with it plugged in. It would not turn on. So I unpluggd the power cable and it turns on fine. As its starting up I reconnect the power cable and it turns off instantly ie crashes. Tried blowing in the connectors etc but nothing is working with the power cable plugged in (even if the power lead isn't connected to the power). I suspect it is a short somewhere but I can see on obvious damage to the cable. Can someone help or has someone had the same problem? Andy

Answer:Z50-70 Crashes when I plug in power lead...????

Meter the power output connector on the power supply. It maybe dead or internally shorted.

Received the new Helix (Gen 2) Ultrabook, and was (not) shocked to find yet another new power plug.  There are lots of adapters out there for the older style recangular plug (Carbon X1 older that is), from Amazon, allowing us to repurpose our ancient round-plug power supplies, but I have not yet found anyone doing this for the new 7.5mm x 2.9mm plug on the Helix Gen 2.   Has anyone else found a solution for this?

Answer:Helix Gen 2 power plug adapter?

Very Good Question!  I just bought the Helix 2 and have been looking for a thin/low profile aftermarket power supply to keep in my mini laptop bag, that would also have a USB port on it for charging my cell phone. I found one on Amazon made by Zitrades that said it was for the Helix, but when I got it, it had the larger yellow square plug on it, and the output voltage was 20 volts, whereas the original power supply for the Helix 2 is only 12 volts.  (I'm afraid the 20 volt one would have fried my tablet, had the power plug actually fit.) It's a real shame too, becuase this is very nice and very compact adapter, and by having the extra USB power port, it's one less power block you don't have to lug around in your laptop bag. So far I have seen very little in the way of an AC or DC adapter for the new Helix 2 that's low profile.

I own a HP G60 series laptop which is about 6 months old. The connector which plugs into the DC power jack on the side of the unit developed an intermittent connection. By this I mean that if you twist the wire at the proper angle you can get it to work.

HP was quick in sending me a replacement power supply at no cost since the unit is still under warranty. However, I would like to repair the old power supply and keep it as a backup by stripping back the cable and soldering on a new jack.

Does anyone know what type of jack that HP uses and where I can get one?

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z570 I purchased almost two years ago. Recently, I started having issues with the AC adaptor supplying power to the machine. Status light energizes when the adaptor is plugged into a socket, and testing the two terminals on the DC end of the adaptor show the proper voltage per the service manual. This leads me to believe either the power jack inside the laptop, or a connection to it have gone bad. I've been looking online trying to find more information about replacing this part, and haven't been able to find anything yet. Do I need to swap out the entire motherboard to replace the power jack, or is it a matter of a cable or card that's swapped out? I can't find any info about this in the service manual.

Answer:Power Plug Problems- Z570

The power jack or "power assembly" as Lenovo refers to it can be swapped out without any soldering. Only screws.  The procedure will require you to disassembly the machine down to the mother board for the replacement.  Prior to replacing, you might want to open the system up and double check that the cable from the power jack is scurely plugged into the motherboard. Page #74 of the Z570's Hardware Maintenance Manual shows the disassembly. Here is a link to the manual.... http://download.lenovo.com/UserFiles/UserGuide/en/User's%20guides%20and%20manuals/Z370&Z470&Z570/Len... Replacement power jacks (power assembly) are available on e-Bay for a reasonable price.  Here is a link to the search I found..... http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.Xideapad+z570+power&_nkw=ideapad...

Finally broke down and started building a new system -
I'm too old to game, this all started out as a home video
project.

Anyway - gathered all my components, now I'm working
to assemble them.

The case came with an Okia Model 500-ATX power supply.
But no wiring schematic.

I'm trying to identify the power supply fan plug - what seems
to be it doesn't at all match the connector on the board.
And I've got that positively identified by the board manual.

The board has a small male 3 pin connection. The only thing I
can find that might be the fan connector coming from the
supply is a small 4 pin plug at the end of 1 of the strings of
drive power harnesses. Nothing tucked up behind the
supply case or anything.

Is that likely to be it? Or would that be for a floppy or something?

I tried to Google for a wiring schematic, but could find nothing.
In fact, nothing much at all on this brand of supply - just
a couple places that sell them. Please don't tell me I got
an el cheapo that isn't worth having!

At the risk of getting ahead of myself, in case I need to adapt
something like that to the different style male connector on the
board, in this case or something else I may find as i progress,
is there some type of source for adapters, or what would I do?

Bear with me, this probly won't be the last question I'll dream up -
just getting started.

While I'm at it - the board manual talks about a conn... Read more

Answer:New power supply, no schematic, looking for power fan plug.

There are basically two voltages available to you: 5V and 12V. Doesn't really matter where you get it from - some pin on the mobo or some wire from the PSU.

From the PSU the yellow wires are 12V and red ones 5V, black is ground. The fan voltages should be written on the fan itself, the black fan wire is ground, red may be 12V or 5V depending on the fan voltage.

Fan headers on the motherboard should be labelled so, check with a voltmeter what pin gives out what.
