yoga 2 11 - issues with internet connection

Question: yoga 2 11 - issues with internet connection

Hi,I bought the pc three weeks ago for my boyfriend and after a few days the internet did not work anymore. I've tried using both portable key (tre) both the wifi and I can navigate only on gmail, all the others pages are unreachable. I thought it was a browser issue but changing it does not change the result. I searched if there were active processes like discovery.exe as I had read on various forums but there is not. Can someone help me? we are desperate...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi.I've been lurking for a bit and have had most of my questions answered and issues solved bythis fine community. Thank you!My problem is that I can add my bt headphones (I've tried two different sets) in the "add device"option, but once I shut the bt device (headphones in my case) off and then turn them back onagain the sound continues to come from the tablet or stereo speakers (which ever I'm using atthe time) and the sound won't switch to the bt headphones automatically. I must manually go theSound settings in Control Panel options and select the bt headphone to use them again. As ofright now I've got a shortcut to the Sound options on my desktop. Now this isn't a deal breaker forme, but there's got to be an easier way! LOLS!Any suggestions? Thanks! And for the record I have no wifi issues and I've upgraded to 8 gigs of ram so I'm keeping this!!!

Answer:Yoga 13 Bluetooth Issues (Headphone Connection)

I haven't tried using a Bluetooth headset with Windows, but check: 1.  Right-click on the sound tray icon, select Playback devices.  Does it show a 2nd bluetooth headset device in addition to Speakers?  If so, left-click on it and try the "Set Default" dropown menu on the bottom to make it the Default device (or some other option that works better). 2.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933144 3.  http://www.computing.net/answers/hardware/making-bluetooth-headset-default-audio-device/87178.html

My laptop is nearly three years old. Two days ago, I replaced a fan that had become worn down and was causing an irritating noise by opening the back of the computer and removing the old one. This worked without trouble, but afterwords, I began to observe a stutter in connection. Without warning, google chrome could freeze, and the connection would go from "Connected" to "Limited". Turning the on and off airplane mode resulted only in no connections being found, despite their obvious availibility on other devices. I was able to get a temporary fix out of disabling and enabling wireless networking through the control panel, but it would shortly start up again and otherwise requires a restart to fix.  Is this a hardware issue? Something that I bumped while fixing the fan? Or does it need a new network adapter entirely?

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro Connectivity Issues (Chrome Crash/Limited connection)

Hello Armadoodle
Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.I would recommend that you double check all the connections, make sure that nothing is loose or potentially disconnected.

Also, Try to download the WiFi and Chipset drivers for the unit from the support page.

Make sure to reboot after an update on the unit.
Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

My Lenovo Yoga2 Pro computer is not picking up the signal from my new router "extender" and I can't figure out why.  It does connect to the main router and a secondadry router I have hooked up (as it has in the past) with no problem.  We just installed a new router (Verizon)  in our upstairs bedroom but since the wifi signal we are able to receive downstairs in the kitchen is weak, we bought an "extender".  My wife's Mac Book and our iPhones sees and uses the signal from the extender but my computer doesn't.  My laptop is less than 2 years old - Lenovo Yoga 2 with an Intel network card (N 7260) for which I updated the driver but that did not help.  I tried restarting and resetting both the router and extender to no avail.  BTW, on my  phone without the extender in the kitchen, I get about 25Mbps, with it I get over 58Mbs download speed so you can see why I want to utilize the extender. Is the Network card dual band?  How can I tell (I can't when I look at the info in the devise manager).  I wonder if the extender is N band only and my network card is G band only?  The extender says 5G and 2.4 on the front. Thanks.

Answer:Yoga router connection issues Doesn't connect to all routers

There are 2 versions of the Intel 7260N: a single and a dual band.Your Y2Pro 7260N is probably single band, as that is the cheaper one. To check go to Device Manager, open the properties of your 7260 and go to the tab Advanced. If there is no option for Preferred Band (2.4 or 5 GHz), then you have the single band. The 7260N single band does B, G and N only on 2.4 GHzThe 7260N dual band does B, G and N on both 2.4 and 5 GHzThe 7260AC does the extra AC band, that is very fast if you use a corresponding AC router.  Stick with driver version 17.0.3.3This is the latest stable version.  Intel wifi cards and Lenovo firmware have never been a very happy marriage if it comes to support of different router brands and types.I have had many problems in the past with the Yoga 2 13 and the 7260N,switching to the Yoga2Pro with the 7260AC (and driver 17.0.3.3) helped a lot. But surely did not sove everything,as I still 'meet' routers that accept my Samsung S4 and cheap (and older) Samsung 530U3C laptop, but not my > ?1000 Yoga .... Why?Because they do not have the correct testing facilities (=enough different routers) where Lenovo is developing and testing their driver versions and laptop firmware ... Keep an eye on the postings in the topichttp://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Re-Yoga-2-Pro-Wifi-Problems/td-p/1452437/...

I have a Yoga S1 and Yoga 2 pro, when in the same environment, Yoga 2 pro internet speed is much much slower. I have to wait for 30 s to open a website such as google or wiki. I have tried to reinstall the IE, it failed. I reinstalled the windows using the system recovery. After it, the problem still exists. Other than internet, other function seems ok. Would you let me know how to fix it? Do you have a store near 06901 (stamford)? Many thanks

Answer:Yoga 900-13ISK Laptop (ideapad) WiFi Connection/Staying connected issues

 Hi Chad76 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

With the connectivity issue , I would suggest to turn off / uncheck power saving from the property box of the device network adapter as shown on this link.
Transmit power to highest if available , Roaming aggressiveness / tendency highest  then restart .
Observe the changes on your connection.

Likewise to limit start up items that may be running from the background that may pick off some of the bandwidth, you may set the pc on clean boot as shown here.

Update us how it goes.

I am having issues when trying to use my phone as a hotspot on both wifi and Bluetooth. They connect but only with limited (no) internet connectivity. I uninstalled the wireless drivers then reinstalled them and it worked great... for five minutes. Then I did a Windows refresh of my system and it fixed everything... again, only for five minutes. It still works on my home wifi and when sharing my phone data via USB.I also paid $60 for Lenovo Premium Support and they just point the finger at my mobile phone (HTC One X). That's B.S. in my opinion considering that many have this common problem. It was an aggravating experience and still did not fix anything. There is a lot of talk on forums about issues with this Realtek wireless adapter that Lenovo uses. Check out this forum about the issue on the Microsoft site: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-networking/lenovo-yoga-limited-connectivi...

I bought a pre-owned Lenova Yoga 900 a year and a half ago and the problems have persisted. I sent it in to fix it and it merely fixes for a few weeks before breaking down. Every time I open my Lenova Yoga 900, it takes me about 1-3 minutes when launching a browser to load up a screen. I've spoken to multiple people about the issue and nothing seems the work. I've consulted with forums until finally I am here trying to have someone answer my question. I want to believe that my Lenova is the best computer but if this problem persists; I can honestly say I will never buy a Lenova again.

This is the weirdest thing I have encountered in a while. So whenever I connect my Yoga Pro 2 on my wifi network the router loses connection to the internet and cannot connect again until I restart it. It is a Sppedport W 503V router from T-Home. So I have 2 android devices, 3 Desktop PCs connected on LAN, 2 laptops connected through Wifi and my t-home 3max package which is connected through LAN. I never had any problems with my network for years until I bought the Lenovo Yoga pro 2. Now whenever I connect it, the internet disconnects on the router and won't connect until it is restarted. It is unbeliveable! I called t-home today and a technician came and didn't know what to say. He replaced the router and said to check whether it was the router. But it is the same with the new router agian. Any ideas how to solve this weird problem?? EDIT: The weirder thing is that it doesn't do that everytime. For example if I wake up the yoga pro 2 (by opening it) it connectes to wifi automatically 30 seconds later the internet connection drops. The router is the one who drops the internet. And when I see the even log it says something like: Internet connection cleared, and it tries to reconnect on every few seconds, but it cannot until I restart it. After i restart the router everything goes back to normal until I disconnect and connect the yoga again. And this can happen like 5 - 10 times in a row. But when I when I get tired of that and put the laptop away for example, an... Read more

All devices that are connected to that WLAN cannot access to internet. It takes about two three minutes and internet connection is back.  And it happens again after short while.Connection to router stays always alive. There is no problems if YOGA is not connected to WLAN. hey all

have been trying to setup an internet connection for one of my friends and after a long wait she had finally got a cable to connect her PC to her phone line however it cannot find a dial tone. On closer inspection it transpires that she has an Intel(R) Pro/100 VE network connection and no modem that i can find. does she need to purchase a new modem or is there a way to setup her internet using this connection (either dial-up or broadband)?

thanks in advance

Cam

Answer:Internet Connection Issues - PRO/100 VE network connection

For broadband --> dsl, she needs a modem supplied by her ISP.--> Intel(R) Pro/100 VE network is the network card.
For dial up...she needs an internal modem --> should be in the device manager.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro wired RJ45 internet connection

Hi JL ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Since the Yoga 3 pro do not have Ethernet port to maintain it's slim features , you may simply use either USB 2.0 or 3.0  port connected to a USB Ethernet adapter similar to this and this .

USB3.0 offers you the speed (10 times faster than USB 2.0. Super Speed or SS, 4.8 Gbps (Giga bits per second) ) and transfer rate better than USB 2.0  480 Mbps (Megabits per second) .

Reference highlighted for additional info .

Hi - I installed the Windows 10 creators update recently on my Yoga Pro 2. It seemed to go OK - except that the Internet stops working after some indeterminant amount of time. Sometimes it works for minutes, other times, hours. Restarting brings it back to life. I tried installing the latest wifi drivers from Intel's website and that did not fix the issue. I experience the same issue in Chrome and Edge. If it is broken in Chrome it is also broken in Edge. Any idea what other steps I should be trying? Thank you!

I have an IdeaPad Yoga 13 with Windows 8.1. I have no internet connection while using HDMI. For example, without HDMI connected, I can access my Facebook homepage. Upon connecting a second screen via HDMI and then attempting to connect to Facebook (or any other website), my browser will continue attempting to connect to the host until I unplug the HDMI cable. It is not until I unplug the HDMI cable that my browser (without even having to refresh the page) will connect me to site I was attempting to connect to. Does anyone else have this problem? Any solutions?

Oops! Google Chrome could not find forums.lenovo.com... I have to say, I am really tired of seeing this. I literally have to refresh every single web page i open 5-10 times before it will actually appear. And then, it might take forever to load. Also, when I play music or sound - the speakers skip the sound often or I get a horrible feedback that interrupts me all the time.  Does anyone have any fixes to these problems? It's extremely frustrating and makes working very difficult.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga Speakers and Internet Connection are unbelievably expletive-worthily terrible

If you are using wi-fi for internet connection and windows 8 or 8.1 this could be the case. Drivers for wi-fi card on win8 are just terrible. Go to control panel -> device manager -> network adapters -> intel dual band... -> advanced -> HT Mode and set it to disabled. This could be workarround which could help a little until they will fix a driver...maybe someday...it's just terrible and irresponsible from intel and lenovo to have that kind of problems...On Ubuntu for example everything is just working....out of the box...

Hi all and a good day to you.

Im off to look at my sisters computer later as she is having some issues and i thought i
would try and get a few ideas to what may be causing it. I'll run through what i know and if anyone
has any ideas i would be really thankful for your advice.

She woke up and when she tried to connect to the internet it was 'local' only.
Her phone and other devices are fine and not effected (which tells me the network key is still fine and no
settings have be changed)
When the computer was taken to another regular wifi used, it connected fine ( which tells me the wifi card is ok)
So no settings seemed to have changed, which leaves me a bit puzzled as to why all of a sudden this has happened.

A system restore did nothing. A reset of modem changed nothing either and even connecting a ethernet
did nothing which really stumpped me.

She is running Vista 32bit and has not installed any new software recently.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and have a great day

Andy

Greetings, I've read the tutorial topic for creating new topics here. I understood everything, but unfortunately I'm accessing the internet mainly from my working place, because back at home, things are a bit suspicious and not functional. I must apologize for not posting the proper logs required to create new topics, but this is not my computer, and I won't be able to post logs in several hours, and that will only happen if I luckly manage to connect to this forum.Lemme explain my issue: Sunday night I was searching images(not porn) using google, then I visited a certain website. (Which I can't recall nor can find it again, because in dispair I deleted all browsers data.)What happaned was the following, upon visiting that page for a full view of it, a new window opened and what appeared to be a fake scan to some drivers had begun, I knew it was fake because that weren't my drivers, so I closed the window, then afterwards Firefox prompted me to accept or not to execute a .exe file, I pressed cancel but I think it was too late. Then my computer become slow as hell and I couldn't even move files on the desktop, I mean dragging them from a place to another, I rebooted my computer and things began to work smoother again. But before that reboot I downloaded BitDefender and installed, in order to do that I had to uninstall my crappy Windows Defender, okay, so everything installed, made a full in-depth scan of all my drivers, found some issues, but the proble... From another use with similar problem:
"The internet connection is active. I can successfully ping sites from the command prompt, packets are going out and coming in"

It is the same here, I can ping the websites, I can even play my games, though they tried to connect to that addresses, I blocked theirs attempts to do so with my firewall, then games are running normally now.

Edit: By the way, if I block my browsers access to those addresses they can't open any page. I think whenever something connects to that addresses it is like it acts a DNS or Proxy, since I blocked my games before they even made their first connection to any of those IPs, they run fine. Softwares like Garena(Gaming Lobby) also are working, though it's adds that are shown like as if in a normal browser do not appear, Garena says "Failed to open page".

Hello all. I'm new at this, so if I mess up forgive me. I had Vista and just recently upgraded to 7. When I got my wireless adapter to work, I tried to connect to the internet and begin looking for updates. The symbol at the bottom of the screen said networks were availiable, but the instant I clicked on it to connect to the network, the message came up saying that I had no networks availiable or none were detected. I'd troubleshoot and the process would repeat. I had problems when I had Vista also, but it would let me connect, then say it couldn't detect the router or something like that. My computer isn't even 40 feet from the router. And there are no devices that would cause interference. What can I do to fix it. By the way, my friend can sit not even a foot away from me and connect fine on his laptop. Any help will be appreciated. And also be aware that I am not tech savy in any sense of the word. If this helps....

Twice in the past two days I have signed on in the morning and the icon in my system tray would disappear. I could surf the web and check my mail and all that good stuff, but the icon was missing. Yesterday when it happened Pegasus locked up and stopped working. Today when it happened Outlook Express locked up. Everything else worked fine, just the email programs went screwy.
I was using TCPOptimizer and uninstalled that today (after restoring my original settings). It is too soon to tell if this was the cause. Is this a possiblity or could there be something else I am over looking?

Whenever i have my ethernet cable plugged in it says i have internet access but whenever i try to get on the internet everything times out like i don't have access. Then i will leave my ethernet cable in and connect to the same router using a wireless connection and the following happens: First the connection is constantly identifying in the network and sharing center I also notice that i get the yellow triangle and its telling me i don't have internet access but whenever i open the internet everything works. So at this point im looking at two current connections the LAN connection which is identified as a home network which says i have internet connection and the wireless which cant identify the network and says it isnt getting me internet access when it is. Also, if i unplug the ethernet cable from there nothing changes in the network and sharing center and im still connected to the internet.

Answer:Having some internet connection issues

Disable your wireless connection but keep the Ethernet cable connected. Try repairing the TCP/IP Stack, click here then reboot. See if it connects via cable now.

I really am at a loss for what happened, as well as for what to do. My computer suffered a spike a few weeks back, and I decided to do a system restore (I'm using Windows Vista). It seemed like that solved my problems. However, as of Thursday, my internet connection has been acting up. For some strange reason, the only thing that works is IE 7. Everything else fails to connect to the internet. This includes my Firefox, Opera, and Safari browsers. I can't even update my antivirus definitions. I think that this is also conflicting with my Norton 360 antivirus program because it wouldn't start up. I uninstalled it, and attempted to reinstall the program, but it's stuck in the configuration stage. This is likely because it needs an internet connection for the remainder of it's configuration.I've tried everything I can think of. I checked the network connection settings for the browsers, I've rebooted the modem, twice, and I've checked the firewall settings. Everything checks out. I've even tried to commence with System Restore again, but when I tried, my restore points up to November 13th were just gone. I hadn't messed with the settings or anything, but it seems like they've been deleted. I have reason to suspect that I have been spiked again during the conducting of a search (I'm something of a spike magnet). Here's the Trend Micro HijackThis log. I've done everything that was required prior to this, and I am using the administrator's account (I only have on ac... Read more

For Starters:

Toshiba satellite A665 running windows 7 64 bit with an Intel Core I3 2.27 processor. My ISP is qwest and I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router.

The Issue;

Since getting the new computer about 8 months ago I have noticed that the internect connection for this laptop "times out" and drops quite a bit. This happens both when running wireless or hard wired to the router. I will be surfing the web and notice that the connection as dropped for a second. While surfing the web its not generally noticeable. However when downloading from Itunes or attempting to download or upload on any other site I notice the down/uploads time out or stop.

I also have a Mac laptop in the house that never appears to have these issues and runs smoothly.

The laptop prior to this one that ran Windows XP also did not have this issue.

I have gone into the computer and pinged several websites as well as the router and dont get any loss reported.

I was hoping someone would be able to give me some advice as to why this is going on. I am by no means a computer guy and could use any help that is out there.

Thank you kindly.

Welcome to SF,

I would highly consider to update your router's firmware to the latest that you may obtain from the manufacture's site. Make sure to use a wired connection to install the latest firmware.

Updating your wireless and LAN adapter to the latest is also a great idea.

Dear Folks,
I used to have a Belkin wireless router (connected to COMCAST Modem) for last two years. However, it was a 802.1g router. I recently bought a D-link DR 615 802.1n router to get faster wireless speed. I have simply taken out Belkin and replaced it with D-link. The speed is awesome, however i get dropped internet connection a lot more now. Suddenly the browser would not connect ot hte web, even though i would still be connected to the router. I tried opening even the router management console (192.168.0.1) but even that would not connect. Not sure whats going on, Were there specific steps that I might have missed out. This D-link DR 615 is revesion 0 firmware.

can we see an xirrus screen shot with the laptop in your usual location

also can we see a ipconfig /all and ping tests when its working OK and repeat all the tests when it disconnects

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

Direct link to the program is here http://wpc.475a.edgecastcdn.net/00475A/XirrusWiFiInspectorSetup.1.2.0.exe

{If the above link does not work heres another link http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/fid,77196-order,4/download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

A user guide is available here http://www.xirrus.com/Products/Wi-Fi-Inspector/xirruswifiinspectorguide1-2-0.aspx

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format f... Read more

I have troubleshooted this but have not found a slolution. The situation...She uses a wireless router and has conntected to the internet before but two days ago it just stopped working. Hi,

I am having a problem on my lenovo G580 since yesterday evening (2/24): Almost all websites i try to load get stuck on "waiting for website.com...", with two exceptions: gmail/google search, and twitter. No other pages load, and programs cannot connect to download updates. Google and twitter both load very quickly.  This happened a few weeks ago, but the problem resolved instelf some how.

This is happening in both chrome and internet explorer.  I've tried clearing all browsing data, disabling extensions, using google's DNS.  It happens on my home network (ethernet and wi-fi), as well as at school.  No other devices are having issues.

I'm not sure if this is a malware issue or not, so i figured i would post in this forum first. However, I know java has had some security issues (again) lately.  Java tried to update to 7.15 a couple of days ago (before the problems started). However, the updater said Java was up to date, even though it
was still on 7.13. I had to download the 7.15 update on another computer and transfer it to the windows 8 machine to install it.

Also, I tried scanning with Avast, but the full system scan finishes instantly, with a runtime of 0:00:00, and no threats found, which seems odd.  Should I try the malware forum?

Thanks!
John

Hello

Ive been posting in the "Networking" forum in regards to my issue and i was advised it may be a malware problem. i am unable to connect to the internet via my wireless on my laptop but i am able to connect via LAN. Other laptops in the house can connect via wireless. I have tried
Restore back to factory setting (my laptop)
Update network adaptors
Disable and enable drivers
Reset router
Update drivers - (driver software only enabled me to update 2 drivers a day, so not entirely helpful)
Purchased a wireless adaptor ( unable to connect )

any suggestions it is really driving me crazy

Hello everyone.

this is my first time posting on this site, so sorry if I seem a little noobish.
I have a Lenovo G580 laptop running windows 8.1. my laptop has recently developed a rather irritating problem. none of my desktop programs can find an internet connection. the only internet browser I can get to work is internet explorer, and I have to run it through the app drawer to get it to work. if I run it from the desktop, it says the page can't be displayed. my laptop is fully connected to the internet, and I have already tried resetting the router, which didn't work. I have also tried disabling my firewall, updating my network drivers, and reconfiguring my IP address. nothing has worked. I have looked everywhere online for a solution to this problem, but I haven't found anything. this has been going on for two weeks now, and it is causing me a lot of problems. if anyone has any idea what is causing this issue, the help would be very much appreciated. thank you, and my apologies if I posted this in the wrong section

Hey everyone,
I am and have been having problems playing WoW on my desktop since early September. The same desktop that I have used and run WoW on perfectly for 2 years prior to my problems. When I am in situations in the game where a lot of CPU is needed I get very high lag spikes and/or completely disconnect until whatever was happening is over (i.e. situations where there are many players involved). I started off thinking that my problems were coming from a poor internet connection because these problems started after I moved to a new location with a new ISP and had no such problems before. However after I looked into it more I realized that there was another symptom that is more then likely another side efect of whatever my problem is. When I leave my computer running for several days and try to restart it, it does not start up again unless I open the case up and have a living room fan blowing on it. I also contacted my ISP to make sure it was not a problem on their end and they confirmed. Now considering what I know I think it might be a cooling prob but I wasnt sure if that can cause the problems I'm having with WoW. Outside of that all I can think of is a virus or maybe an out of date driver on maybe my graphics card? I really dont have a clue and any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Once again I had never had these problems prior to september when I moved to a new location, and I am not sure if this is relevant but I was out of the country for 2 months ove... Read more

This is a very strange one and the first time I have seen this happen.

I was at a customer's house tonight after they said their internet is not working.

They are with AOL (I expect this is where the problem is) and they have a USB modem. AOL software connects to the internet fine and I get the silly woman telling me 'Welcome' and that there is a new email. The new email came in today and was from eBay (if you have an eBay account, I am sure you got the same mail as well). This is where the fun begins. I am then unable to get an browser to load, AOL, IE and Chrome.

But, Windows Live messenger connects and iTunes works.

I have checked the firewall settings, even disabled it, still the same.

I have also been through the AOL One-Click-Fixes and none of them have worked.

Anyone got any more ideas? I can see me nuking it otherwise!

TIA

I'm running Mac os X as my main computer and I have Windows 7 on bootcamp. Internet on both os were running good until recently i got comcast. Ever since having comcast my Mac is able to connect to the internet but my windows 7 cannot. Very irritating.

I think its an ip address issue, or router issue. On windows 7 in the network sharing display, it recognizes i have internet access but i cant actually surf the web.

I'm running my computer and a xbox 360 through a switch. From that switch it is connected to a second switch where it connects to 2 other computers in my house along to a wireless router and the modem itself.

Can anyone help?

Hi there! I'm a college student living at residence, and I purchased my own private internet (as I have done for two years already)... and I need help!

I have a desktop computer and a laptop. My modem only has one outgoing connection cable, so I normally have my desktop connected and it worked fine. My laptop, however, would only get local access from the modem when I plugged it in.. and would not be able to access the internet.

I sent in a help email to the support staff at my service provider (Shaw) but no reply yet. The day after I did that, I was playing an MMO on my desktop when suddenly I lost connection. I tried resetting my computer, resetting the modem, unplugging/replugging... but nothing worked. On a whim I put it in to my laptop and WOW, it worked. So it worked like this:

First day: Desktop connected flawlessly, but laptop would only get local connection.
Second Day: Desktop doesn't connect (there isn't even a connection in the network connections gump), but laptop works smoothly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated ;3;

Windows Vista
Clearwire Internet
Motorola Wimax modem

Hello,

For the last month I have all of a sudden had super annoying internet connection issues. I know Clearwire has some issues but I've never had problems with it until they sent me this new 4g modem. I have tried in vain for their tech support to help, but since submitting a repair ticket on 7/15, I've heard nothing from them. I have tried everything on their website tech guide thing, which was to run Microsoft FixIt and move the modem. Neither did anything. I've read somethings about Vista and internet and I don't understand, I need some step by step help

What happens is I notice that web pages aren't loading, look down into the system tray and see that the little globe is gone from the internet icon, starts flashing like it's looking for a connection, I do the ''diagnose and repair'' feature and the error is always the one that says there is an error in my dns configuration. The actual modem appears to maintain a connection (the connection lights stay just as they are - when it loses connection, they flash) After a few minutes, it seems to fix itself and go back to normal, but it does this many times a day. It's super annoying and frustrating because it seems like the internet is working but there's some issue with my actual computer keeping it connected ??

Thank you!!

Sure sounds like the connection has been lost. I bet if you open a Command prompt window and do

ipconfig

at that time you will find that you no longer have a valid public IP address.

I'm not sure what you have to work with when using WiMAX. Is there an indication of signal strength? If so, how good is it? Does it fluctuate?

I'll start off by saying I don't know much about computers so forgive my ignorance when it comes to things like this.

I've been having trouble with my computer for the past two days. My internet was working just fine when all of a sudden it stopped working. This has happened to me before in the past. I'd say about 6 months ago. I called my ISP and they said everything was working fine, and the problem had to be coming from my side. I switched out the cables and that hadn't fixed it, after searching the internet for a countless amount of time I can to the conclusion that I had to reset my computer to a later date. I did so and everything ended up working just fine. However this time, that doesn't seem to be working.

My computer works both on WiFi, and the Local Area Connection. As of this moment I'm on the WiFi which isn't the greatest thing as it's not that fast. I went into the adapter settings and checked the status of the WiFi and it's sending/receiving packets just fine. However the Local Area Connection is sending packets in the 100~1000 range, and it isn't receiving and packets at all. and I think that's where the problem lies(sorry if this is incorrect). Also one other weird thing is that under where it says "Local Area Connection" it says "Unidentified Network" I swear just a week ago it said "Connected"

Is it trying to connect to my internet but is unable to, and so it'... Read more

I can get to some websites, but not others. I can get to facebook, google and youtube, and this site, but not many others. I've tried all of the things that have been suggested on other websites, the command prompt to flush, reset and renew. Thought the battery might be dead on the mobo so I changed that (was told that would mess with the time and date). Changed the ivp4 address. When none of those other things worked, I loaded a clean version of windows, but the problem still persists. Only virus stuff I have on line is windows defender, because I can't get to any website to download anything else. Before this started. I had avast installed, the paid version. This happens in all browsers, IE, Chrome, Edge. Also, my wi-fi has stopped working, my phone says it has a strong signal, but no internet. Here's my system info:

Answer:internet connection issues

If you have reinstalled windows then it is almost certain that it is the router
reset it to factory default & the reset up the WI-FI internet connection to your phone & computer
To perform a factory reset:

On the back of your router, locate the Restore Factory Settings or Reset button.
Using a paper clip or similar object, press and hold the Restore Factory Settings or Reset button for about seven seconds.
Release the Restore Factory Settings or Reset button and wait for your router to reboot.

I am having the same problems and have since i had my cable internet hooked up. I have such a spuratic (sp?) connection. I can stay connected for hours, other times it boots me every couple minutes, sometimes it comes right back, other times it stays offline for hours. The tech guy for my service has been out 3 times checking connections in the wall and outside and has tried everything and can't seem to find a problem. The tech support on the 800 line have checked everything they can from where they are and find a good strong signal and everything. At first I was running Windows ME and had the problem, I since switched to Windows XP and still have the problem. I have no idea what to do next as I have done all the things recommended to me, as well as all the advice posted on here. Cant someone help me??

Answer:internet connection issues as well!

I had problems likewise with my broadband, it was a damaged cable in the house, and also resulted in a cracking noise on the telephone.

If your lines are checked ok, then maybe it's a problem with your cable modem? Either hardware fault or some configuration setting not right.

If this all turns to be ok, and the cable company says all your lines are ok, just return the modem as faulty and replace that, see if that fixes the problem.

how is the modem connected to your pc, by a lan card? Maybe that card is not working 100%.

just make a checklist what could be wrong possibly, and work your way through it. You will get to the problem and be able to sort it out!

hope this helps

I do not know if this belongs into this category or somewhere else as I am kind of new into the trouble shooting business, but I have been trying to fix one computer that is owned by my dad. I went to clean his computer of some of the useless junk with CCleaner and using free anti-virus/trojan/root-kit programs like Malwarebytes and Emsisoft Anti-Malware. Then the next day his computer ran out of battery because he forgot to plug it in while it was still running. That is when the connection issues started. I went through system restore to fix the problem but that didn't help. I went through firewalls and shut off Norton Security for the time to see if the problem arose and that didn't help. I thought it might be a hardware problem so I uninstalled the wireless adapter and had it re-install itself. I have gone to the point of running out of ideas on where the problem might lie.

Some of the symptoms that the computer is experiencing: connected to a wireless modem and the computer sees it no problem. The connection to the internet is fine as I am using a much more powerful computer than my Dad's. But the connection is so slow that it times out. Also, when I was cleaning his computer I uninstalled Google Chrome and replaced it with SRWare Iron. A internet browser with Chrome's source code that make it the same thing, only that this does not track you like Chrome.

The problem may lie with a simple fix, but I cannot figure it out.

Hi,

I have Windows XP Media Center 2005 Edition and Internet Explorer 6.

My issue is as follows... In my house I have three computers, one desktop connected directly to the internet and two laptops, both wireless. Both the laptops are having the same problem. Although it seems that my laptop is having the problem more than the other one.

When I try to access a web page (via link, typing in the address, or programs like gmail notifier) I have problems. About a third of the time, nothing happens. Down on the bottom bar it says "connecting to" and then lists the IP address of the site that it is trying to access. If I let it sit, nothing happens. The little green loading bar will stay at one square loaded and that is it. If I close the window and do it again right away, it will do it again. Usually it takes about a half dozen attempts to make the page come up. During all this, there is no interruptions in my connection with AIM and Yahoo Messenger so it would seem that I still have internet.

I have tried hooking up directly to the router, the problem still happens. I also tried upgrading to IE 7. When I did this, it seems that the problem goes away, but at the same time, I lose all ability to make my media players work (MusicMatch Jukebox, Windows Media Player, and even my Media Direct all refused to play music and work properly) so therefore, I went back to IE 6.

I have a new Dell computer that I just setup at our sales counter here in my office. It was purchased to replace an old computer running Windows 98. I'm having problems connecting to the internet with the new computer. We have 3 computers at the counter and all are connected to the same switch. When I set the new computer up, I just used the same cable that was connected to the old computer. When I open Internet Explorer it will try to load for several seconds and then I get the Page Cannot be Displayed msg and at the bottom it says "Cannot connect to server or DNS error."

I have tried switching out the ethernet cable from the computer to the switch. I've checked the IP settings and compared with another computer on the same switch and they are exactly the same (except for the computer's IP address). I've also tried renewing the IP address, and using the repair feature on the LAN settings. I can ping to other computers on our network, and am able to access our internal Citrix Metaframe site, but I cannot ping to any outside website.

I have never encountered this issue before and am at a loss as to what to try next. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Oh, and this computer is running Windows XP with SP2.

Thank you!

Hi wikedawsum,There are many possible reasons this is happening and the contributing factors vary for every individual computer.Start by clearing old files and settings may be preventing you from connecting to the Internet.Click on Tools.Select Internet Options.Click the General tab.Click the Delete Files button. When the box opens, put a check in Delete All Offline Content.Click Okay.Click Delete Cookies. When you are prompted to confirm this selection, click Okay.Click Settings.Click View Objects.Click View, and then click Details. If Damaged appears in the Status column for any program file, remove that program file.Close the Downloaded Program Files dialog box.In the Settings dialog box, click OK .Under History, click Clear History, and then click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the selection. In the Internet Options dialog box, click Okay.Try to browse the Internet. If no joy, lets see if we can try and repair the internet connection.Click Start, click Run, type netsh winsock reset and then click Okay. When the Command Prompt flashes, restart the computer.Note: If you have a program that no longer functions correctly after you follow this step, reinstall the program. Also see if there is anything in this Micro$oft Article that helps: Page Cannot be Displayed

When i came home, my internet suddenly stopped working on this computer. It was working perfectly fine and flawlessly this morning. I'm currently connected directly to the internet because it won't work otherwise when it's connected to the router.

Details:
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (Swedish Language).
My Network Card: Realtek RTL8168D/8111D Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20).
My Network Card is up-to-date.
It's connected through the router which in turn is connected to the internet. The internet access itself works fine because my mom can access the internet but it doesn't work for me unless i plug my cable right onto the internet source itself (modem, i believe it's called). I've tried disconnecting and connecting but it didn't work, including the method below:
"Unplug your modem and router. Leave them unplugged for a minute. Then plug in only your Modem. Wait 30 seconds and plug in your router. Restart your computer and see if your internet stays connected for longer periods of time.". It still didn't work. The "light" on the router kept pulsating orange light instead of green light, which obviously means there's something wrong with the internet connection.

I once did this and the internet worked through the router for 10 minutes:

Hehe, even though the cable 'getting wet' hasn't caused problems in the past, it doesn't mean that it will NEVER cause a problem. I would certainly try using a cable that's never gotten wet. Also, any cable that has damage like you mention, where the sheathing is pulling away, should be replaced, regardless.

However, I would probably tend to suspect the router, as well; since everything works fine when you take the router out of the system.

About a week ago, i ran my new ethernet wire (Startech Snagless Cat 5E Patch Cable, Blue, 75ft.) under my floor to the computer downstairs which has my D-LINK EBR 2310 router which allows several computers to connect to the internet. The internet was working fine until i ran my wire through the floors. When i turned my computer back on the screen's resolution was all messed up, the icons were way bigger. I decided to system restore after multiple attempts to fix the resolution. The Screen is fine now, but the internet still doesn't work. I checked if the wire was damaged, but it seems to be in good condition. Then i decided to directly connect my enternet wire directly to the modem. The "PC/Activity" light starts flashing, but after like 5 seconds it goes completely off. Then 5 seconds later it flashes again. Is there something wrong with my computer? I turned my Antivirus off (NOD32) and my internet firewall off but nothing works. Please help?

Answer:Internet Connection issues.

Did you make the finish the cable ends yourself? It sounds like the cable is crossed wired. Check your wiring to this.

Hi,

I've had a fairly irritating internet issue for 3 months or so. I tried a number of things to fix it but eventually gave up in frustration.

Basically, whenever I boot up my computer I do not have an internet connection for a random amount of time, varying from a few minutes to 20 or more (depending if I'm trying to load many webpages or internet reliant programs). This never used to be the case, where I was able to load web pages within seconds of booting up. Also, if I close a browser and reopen it I'm met with the same issue, where it wont load web pages for a random period of time, although pinging google returns an internet connection, something that isn't the case on boot up. Furthermore, at random intervals loading web pages will slow, sometimes to a halt. In regards to what I've done to try and fix the issue:

- Ran multiple anti-virus scans
- Restarted router
- reinstalled OS (Windows 7)
- Used a different network adapter
- Tried a wireless adapter
- Took my PC to a computer repair store. They installed a previous network adapter driver and it fixed the issue. Upon taking it home the issue returned (even after redoing what they did)
- Had a computer technician come out and look at what's going on (he couldnt fix it)
- Tried varying the internet demand on start up
Also note that there are a number of other computers in my household, none of which experience the same issue. So based on that I'm thinking it's something hardware related? Although if ... Read more

Before these last two weeks I didn't have a single problem related to this. (don't believe I've installed anything that would screw it up)

Im using a SE567 router/modem combo on a Telus connection.

The problem only seems to arise when I start a torrent or any quicker downloads. The wierd thing is I have a computer upstairs connected to the same router and when the connection goes down on this one the upstairs remains connected.

Again it only seems to come up when theres alot of file transfering going so would there possibly be some kind of issue where it almost overloads?

*also note restarting my computer brings the net back up just fine*

Thanks for the help in advance.

The forum rules clearly state that we don't help with p2p issues. You did not directly ask for such help, so ...

Remove all p2p applications and see if you still have any disconnect problems. If so, please give specifics so we can try to help. If the disconnects persist, you know the cause and you know to not ask for help here. Thanks for your cooperation.

Hello whoever is reading this,

For quite some time now, my computer has had a problem with connecting to the internet. Often my internet will just stop working for a bit, only to return after several minutes to several hours. It is highly irregular; sometimes there's no problem for a few weeks and sometimes it persists several days. I know for certain that the issue lies with my pc, as other devices in the same room as it work fine. When the internet stops working, the connection bars sometimes look just fine (as if there IS a connection), and sometimes it looks like there is no connection. I have tried to use an external signal-receiver (sorry, I have no idea what else to call it) but that didn't help either. I have also had my virusscanner go over it, and it got me nothing.

Would anyone happen to know what my problem is, and how I can solve it? I run Windows 7 Ultimate X32.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Answer:Internet connection issues

The first thing I usually suggest is to use a cable to connect to your router and see if there's a difference in how the PC reacts.

I'm having the same issue. I'm on a laptop that has a wireless card that remains connected to my wireless router pretty much all the time, but I was trying to figure out what was going on with this issue, so I tried running only on wireless and only on Ethernet and nothing changed. My sister downstairs is running off of the same wireless router with a wireless adapter, but her computer is an older model with a Celeron processor in it, so just about anything she does on it is pretty slow, but mine has an AMD Turion processor in it and 2 gigs of ram. Everything else I do runs just fine, but the internet has been giving me some trouble over the last few weeks. I have a whole lot of trouble trying to load multiple pages and many times Firefox will try to load one page, fail and then fail to load the other pages altogether, so I have to refresh and load one at a time. When one has difficulty loading Google, it generally means something is up... I'm on a Netgear WGR614 v6 router with Verizon DSL (the fastest package they offer). I've tried talking to the people at Verizon and Netgear, but they never communicate anything new to me and our attempts are always fruitless... Besides, I'm tired of losing time to crappy hold music. The only other things I ever have connected to the router are my XBox 360, which has been experiencing alot of lag over the connection recently too, my Wii and occasionally my brother's PSP, but usually only one at a time to ensure... Running a two PC network, 1 dell dimension 8250 desktop and 1 HP/Compaq presario v2000. Both connect through an actiontec mi424wi router to verizon.net. On Monday, the desktop stopped connecting to the internet - mostly. The laptop is still connected with no problem. The desktop will connect in safe mode, will ping (the laptop and other sites by IP and name) in normal mode and services that depend on open ports will work - Thunderbird e-mail works fine. Just for fun, I started AOL and it found an old PPP connection, made itself a new internet connection and connected. However IE, FF3, Opera, etc. all time out.

Tried everything I could think of, then broke down and called MS support. Three days of trying this and that have not done much but return me to SP2 (repair option) with no security updates, no McAfee security, no spysweeper, and a list of services I am no longer sure should be running, auto, manual or disabled. More "help" promised on Sunday.

Have been down the line with ipconfig, used winsock repair utilities, scanned with malware bytes, defender, etc. Updated Intel ethernet adapter driver and checked the connection with their utility. Reset router. Nothing makes a difference. Posting Hijack this below in hopes someone spots something before I have to wipe out 3 years of comfortable PC settings with a fresh install. At least I have my documents backed up. Thanks -- Jim W.

You have a lotta stuff running; personally I think it's time for a format and fresh install. But since you don't, and you're the one who counts, ...

You mentioned McAfee. Did you use the Removal Tool? If not, that's my first suggestion.

I think that AOL is as likely as a non-Windows firewall to leave networking roadblocks scattered around. I do not have a clue how to get rid if AOL problems. But my second suggestion is to stop/disable/uninstall all AOL tasks and services.

Okay, I'm going to try to describe what's happening as clearly as I can. If I'm not clear, feel free to blast me until I manage to make myself understood.

I've just installed Windows 7. Almost everything runs smoothly, and I really like the new OS - it seems that MS finally did something right! However...

There are several applications that I run which can't connect to the internet; specifically, GOM Player, WinAmp and POP Peeper. These are apps that I REALLY like, and I'd like to continue to use them if I can. The programs installed without issue, however, they all require connection to the internet. However, when they try to do so, I get one of two error meassages; one asking me to supply a username and password for my "dialup" connection - I don't have a dialup connection - or one telling me that the ethernet cable is unplugged. It's not.

Has anyone had issues like this, and if so, is there anything I can do to correct them?

Answer:Odd Internet Connection Issues

If everything else accesses the internet properly then I think it is the settings in those programs. I have never used those programs so I can't really help you there. Does everything else access the internet properly.

Hiya,My friend has a computer with Onetel Dial Up connection. The internet works fine, the problem is just that it frequently disconnects itself automatically. Does anyone know about this. The one thing I know is that the cables are plugged in properly. Thanks

Answer:INternet connection Issues...

If you go to Tools>Internet Options>highlight your ISP>Settings Button>Connection tab>Advanced button, you should get a menu up.This can be configured to terminate a connection as required if no activity for a certain time or left on permanently. It was orginally conceived to prevent dialup connections being inadvertently left on when not in use (or that is what I would suspect). Also check that in Outlook Express on the Send/Receive panel that "Hang Up after collecting messages" or words to that effect is Disabled i.e unchecked.

I am using at&t dsl internet connection and just a couple of days ago
in an attempt to access the internet I get prompted to run diagnostics
and once diagnostics is finish I have access to the internet . What causes
this problem? Any help or suggestions will be very much appreciated.

Answer:Internet Connection Issues

Hi

A few questions for you

What windows version you using and is it fully upto date?
What diagnostics are you prompted to run, is it AT&Ts own or Windows? and if the disgnosic prompt tells you possibly whats wrong, what is the message or warning?
What is your connection, is it wired or wireless?
Have you turned off the modem/router if your using ADSL or Cable to reset it?
Have you done some basic cleaning steps like deleting temp internet cache and cookies?

If you have a firewall program and not the Windows built in one, what is it and have you disabled it to test if that is blocking your internet access?

I have had Verizon DSL for over a year now and all has been well until this morning. My computer began having strange internet connection issues. Example 1: I play Everquest quite frenquently and I logged on this afternoon to attend a raid and I noticed everyone was chatting and moving (which I could see) but nobody could hear me. Also, the mobs never lost hit points or died. After about a minute of this I got the disconnected message. Example 2: During a few CS:S sessions this afternoon I would be getting my butt kicked (as usual) then my toon would freeze up and I could still hear peoples voice chat but nobody could hear me. Its as if I recieve certain types of packets but not others and my computer doesn't seem to be sending any packets out. When I lose connection, my wife's comp also loses connection of course (Internet Connection Sharing). Anyhow, I have no clue how to troubleshoot this. I can get my connection back when I restart my comp everytime but it doesn't last for long. Any ideas? I Have Verzon DSL and my comp specs below.

Answer:Internet Connection Issues?

I suggest you:

1-Look in Eventviewer and modem logfile for clues.

2-Your physical medium between modem and exchange..Copper line ??

3-Any other connections tapped of the DSL line with filters, disconnect them.

Ok, so I was disconnecting all the time and when I checked my SnR it was at about 15-17 so I took the amp I had on the primary line coming into the house and placed a bidirectional splitter on the primary line with the modem coming directly off of that. I put the amp on the out leg going to the 8 way splitter to the rest of the house. This changed my SnR to about 40.

Before I started doing anything the ISP told me it was likely a modem/router issue so I went out and bought a new modem and router.

Now, my speed tests are above avg and I stay fairly connected. However, I often disconnect for a moment and then reconnect almost immediately most of the time. When any computer connected to the network (wirelessly) pings google.com it pings fine for about 20 or so requests and then it times out or takes 2.5kms +. I have updated the firmware on the router. Any ideas?

I have posted this question at http://www.coderanch.com/t/443763/General-Computing/Home-network-woes as well.

Hey guys, i've been trying to figure this out for about a week and I still can't solve the problem.
My computer runs fine, and Firefox isn't slow.

However, I use a program called BYOND, its used to build games, host them, and play them.

When I'm logged in playing games I lag badly, then for a short while I don't and then I do again.

All the other players are fine, but something is slowing me down and I suspect its spyware/viruses.
Previously in a scan I found that one of my svchost.exe's was infected with a trojan, however I couldnt remove it.

I run a Windows XP Computer with a 3.06GHz processor and 1.5GB of RAM.
My Antivirus is Avira Free Version.
I clean Spyware using XoftSpySE and Advanced SystemCare 3.

I've cleared all my cookies, and my cache but still no progress in running games.

any help?

Ok, i've got a computer with windows xp with several user accounts; however, one of them will not connect to the internet when all of the others can. Anytime i try to load IE or Firefox, it just says it cant find the server and what not, any ideas on what might be causing this?

Answer:Internet connection issues.

Try this series from a command prompt, note the space before each of the /;

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

netsh winsock reset catalog

Press enter key after each of these. Reboot after the last one.

If this doesn't do it, can you log into this account in safe mode with networking?

Do these user accounts all have admin privileges? Not sure if you can run these commands if not, in XP. But try.

My internet computer works fine. I can get on videogames and play with very low ping, however, it takes very long to get the internet "going"... Its kind of like i'm kick starting my moped. I have to pedal it real hard, then she runs smooth. Anyway, bad metaphore asside, my internet works fine on my laptop. I've done all the malware scans with all the programs that have been suggested here with no results... Ty for reading my friends.

LOL the way you describe the issues make it impossible for a Network Geek to help, it seems that you need an Auto mechanic.

What is the type of connection?

How the NAT works?

Are the computers optimized for the type of connection?

Hi,
My laptop is running Windows XP SP3... it uses an external wireless card (old laptop). For some reason it can detect wireless networks but cannot actually connect to them. I'm not sure what the issue is. I can provide more information. Please help! Thank you!

What is your modem's model, and what program are you using to connect to the internet? (Is it a program that came with it or Windows Wireless Network Properties?)

So after removing some major trojans with several adaware programs I'm having internet connection issues. Diagnostics says its a winsock issue. I've tried using winsock xpfix. Like everything else I've tried, it worked temporarily. My connection will work fine at first, and then go down and I have to reboot my computer or modem. Is there anyway to check what exactly the issue is, and fix without reinstalling xp? I'm on XP Media Center 2004, IE 7.0. Please help!

post a hjt log

HIJACK THIS:

Download and copy hijackthis to its own folder , it makes backups so keeping them separate and available can be useful.
SO DO NOT put hjt onto the desktop or temp files.

create a directory say my documents/hjt

Currently, whenever I play steam-related games (CS:GO/Gta V) it stutters constantly. It skips from 5 fps minimum to 60 fps maximum repeatedly twice every second. I don't know whether this is the game or internet issues. You probably need further information, and I will check about once a day for new comments. I don't know that much, but I will try.

I use IE8 and have DSL service from Bellsouth (AT&T). Often when I open a browser I get an error message about my connection being broken and asking me to choose either to restart last session or go to home page. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't. Other times during a session I will suddenly encounter a connection issue and be given a button to "diagnose connection issue". If I just refresh the page, it will usually resolve the issue. Are these issues being caused by my computer, my ISP, or the site I am visiting?

Hello all I hope you guys can help.

I have the motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

The issue is that I bought an PCI wireless card and when I try to find wireless connections I barely get any options. I grabbed my pc and put it right next to the router and I could find the connection but it only gave me 3 bars.

Next I tried another wireless device but this time through usb. This one would find the wireless connection but only for moments, and it also would display barely any connections.

I live in an apartment with 10 apartments per floor, so instead of just one or two there should be 20 or more!

I tried to connect directly with the cable and it never took. Anyone know what I could or what it may be?

I bought the motherboard in the US and I live in Chile. I hope it isn't that

Thanks!

Answer:Internet connection issues

I've never heard of anyone using a US (intended) motherboard with a foreign power supply. I can't even imagine the problems that might cause.

But both of your problems sound like a lack of power to the required components. Can you go into your BIOS and check the voltages of the power supply to make sure they're at the levels they should be?

Wireless antenna requires power to work. Too little power and the antenna works less efficiently (ie-Barely picking up signals that are right next to it, and not picking up signals that are far away at all.)

Hi All

Could do with a bit of help please.

I am having a few issues with my internet connection which is only happening on my laptop, all other devices on my network work fine. It seems to happen on the hour every hour. I can not access any web pages or initiate any new rdp sessions. My laptop is still connected to the internet and if I am on an rdp session I can still control the servers, I am also still connected to skype and can send IM's but can not initiate/receive calls.

When running "Troubleshoot problems" in the network and sharing centre I sometimes get "The diagnostic Policy service is not running" Even if I restart it, my internet access does not come back, the only solution then is to restart the laptop and then all works fine until the next time.

What I have done:

1) In CMD run the following:
net localgroup Administrators /add networkservice
net localgroup Administrators /add localservice

2) Re-installed wireless drivers as well as Ethernet port drivers

3) Used Windows Repair Portable 2.0.1 from Tweaking.com and
Reset registry permissions
Reset file permissions
Repair Winsock & DNS Cache

4) sfc/scannow
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
supported in offline servicing scenarios.
All have failed to resolve the issue, so I am out of ideas.

Was not sure where to post this: My parents were using their own PC until it died last week. Now, my CPU is connected to the rest of their system. When I used my system last, it was connected to the internet through a cable connection. (w a modem) Now, it is on a DSL system. What changes do I need to make to my system to make it compatible with the DSL connection? I know I need to do something, as now when I open a webpage, either the internet closes or the page freezes. I know that with their system, it was set up as a PPPoE connection. Do I need to set mine up the same way? Thanks

I bought a new Dell Inspiron one. I have notice if my computer goes into sleep mode my internet connection is dropped it say it?s connected but it?s not. I have to try and connect many times before it will connect. I have tried it wireless connection and hardwired connection. I call dell tech and they changed the power management settings to this
Dim display-never
Turn off display-never
Put computer to sleep-never
This will keep me connected to the internet but my computer is always on.
Dell Tech say there is an issue with windows 7 that if your computer has 4g of memory are more that you will have this problem. I think it?s something else. Any help would be grateful. Thanks

Duke, Welcome to Sevenforums!

Likely it has something to do with the Dell hardware that causes this issue. My guess is if they don't know how to fix one of their own computers (or they know that it can't be fixed), then I am not sure if someone else would.

Generally speaking, sleep mode and connecting to the internet isn't effected by the amount of RAM one has (to my knowledge). But I do not know if that is true for Dell computers or select Dell computers. I myself own a computer with 12GB RAM and have no problems. I used to own another computer with Vista, and I managed to have sleep mode working perfectly, but on certain installs, the internet wouldn't work after a wake from sleep mode unless I restarted or disabled/re-enabled the wireless network device. My guess is it would be hardware related. Try updating everything in windows update and download all recent drivers. If you need help on the driver side, please follow this link: New to SevenForums? Fill out your system specs (this tool may help you out a great deal).

A couple of weeks ago I had cable internet installed at my house ... for my stationary cpu and my laptop.

The day they hooked it up they asked to install cable on a wall where my computer was not located (easier for them) .. since I didn't care I said ok. instead of allowing me to move it before they left - they simply told me it would automatically work when I hooked my cpu up.

Well it doesn't.

It shows I have a connection in control panel but when I try to open EI it says no internet connection.

Called them back out and they said they really only know how 'to hook' up and make sure all lights are on ... and perhaps some program (no idea what) is missing?

argh

I called the trouble line and they (the young men who came to hook up the cable) told them I was missing a program and they seem to think this is my fix, frankly I don't care WHO fixes it, me or them I just want it working.

BTW laptop works fine (on it right now).

Any help would be appreciated.

It's a dell, using xp professional.

Answer:Internet connection issues

Use ethernet instead of USB. Usb needs drivers. Ethernet is virtually Plug-and-Play.
If your desktop doesn't have an ethernet post, buy this special USB stick that has an ethernet port on the other end. It comes with different drivers.
Need any more help, please post.

My roommate just switched over to an internet router that requires a password. I typed in the password, and it achieves "Limited Connectivity." After running the diagnostics originally, it said that I had an IP address error. After trying a few of the ideas posted on other forums, it now says that windows can't find a solution to the problem. My XP laptop and phone can connect, but not my Windows 7 desktop. I attached a JPG of my ipconfig as suggested by others. I know this question has been asked 1.23 million times, but I can't find anything that works. Help?

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Is W7 managing the connection or do you have some OEM software like Dell connection manager or Intel's tool?

Have you tried clearing out any previous entry that you had for this connection.

Hi, all. New here and hoping someone can help me out!

I also tried turning off the Windows Firewall, but that did nothing. The computer that was replaced had no problems connecting to the internet so I'm pretty sure it has to do with the setup on the new computer.

I have never encountered this issue before and am at a loss as to what to try next. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Oh, and th... Read more

Welcome to MajorGeeks,
You might try contacting your ISP and letting them know you have a new computer replacing the old one. They may have to allow the new computer's NIC, (which has a different MAC from the old computer) to connect to their server.

Every 10 minutes to 2 hours the internet stops working. Not just for 1 computer, for every device in the house (4 computers, 3 Xboxs and a Wii). When it happens you have to log in to the router and reset it (or unplug it) in order to regain connection. Its aweful because it makes online gameplay impossible. And me and the friend both take online coarses at our college. Last semester he failed a class when it went off in the middle of his exam which he was not able to retake.

As I said, it is randomly every little while. We have not noticed anything that correlates with it going off. The wireless modem/router is a Motorola SBG900. When you log into it, under Cable/Status it lists Acquire Downstream Channel, Obtain Upstream Parameters,Establish IP Connectivity using DHCP, Establish Time Of Day, Transfer Operational Parameters through TFTP, and Cable Modem Status. Beside each one of those it tells you the status (such as obtaining, done, failed, operational.) It used to usually say "obtaining" beside upsteam parameters of downstream channels. And if you waited it would reset itself. But latley sometimes it just says "failed" next to Cable Modem Status and you have to reset or wait a long time for it to begin working again. There are even times when it says its functioning properly and must be reset in order to get it to work.

Ive searched the web and there are a million people with the same issue, but most of the time its just one computer for them. And if ... Read more

as said in your last post - you need the ISP to do a line test

would make sense to pay the ISP and get the support and line test or even a replacement modem / router = working out a bit expensive if you are failing class
