I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For the last month or so my mouse pointer erratically jumps to a specific area of the screen and then continues to jump around in a vertical line in that area (upper half, slightly to the left). Hugely annoying. But happens erratically, one day it may not happen at all or happen rarely, other days it is constantly an issue.  Originally assumed it was a problem with the touchscreen, but disabling the touchscreen didn't help. Disabling the touchpad also didn't help, but this is a little weird since even if I uninstall the touchpad driver it somehow comes back by itself. No problem in safe mode.  If I try installing another driver in Safe Mode it seems to keep it, but when I reboot to normal mode the problem is back Clearly seems to be a software issue since everything is fine in Safe Mode, but not sure where I'm getting the problem. Have tried several other touchpad drivers without improvement Huge pain! Any suggestions? The laptop is only 4 months old, doesn't run any weird software, mainly just chrome and ms office Cheers, AK

Hi everyone,
As the title says really. I just want to see if others are having similar problems before I bring this up with Dell directly.
Some pertinent info: This is my second 'XPS 15 9560' and both laptops have had the exact same problem. All drivers are up to date, windows is up to date so I'm using the latest precision drivers from microsoft. I have tried disabling double tap dragging and enhanced precision to no avail.
I'll be happily moving my pointer around the screen and as I lift my finger to click on something the pointer will jump about 5 - 10mm in a random direction, often causing me to click on the wrong thing.
The fact it's happened on both laptops tells me others must be having this problem too. I can't seem to find anything specific on the issue though.
It's driving me nuts and would like to know if anyone who has had this problem has managed to cure it? I've heard installing synaptics drivers can help with some touchpad issues but then you lose touchpad functionality so seems pointless to me, also this fix was for the 9550, last years model so not sure how relevant it is, although my understanding is it's the same touchpad.
Hopefully someone can help, thanks
Mark

Guys I'm having this issue with my touchpad, when I slide towards a button on the screen and lift my finger up to hit the click button, in most of the cases I mis-click because it seems the pointer jumps away when I lift my finger. This is very irritating. This was default with clean install Windows 7. So I installed the drivers i.e. UltraNav, but that made things worse! Now it seems like the resolution has dropped and the mouse cursor is twitchy. I played with the UltraNav settings, made things a bit better, but yet still worse than the default configuration I had with Windows 7. Oh yeah, the jumpiness of the cursor remained after lifting finger from touchpad. So I removed those drivers again... What to do now? Seems like a software issue, but that jumping drives me nuts.......

Answer:X230: Pointer jumps away when lifting finger from touchpad

Install the latest Synaptics drivers, set everything to default and increase touch sensitivity a bit. That'll make it much better until Lenovo gets their act together. The latest Synaptics drivers were just released.

I'm writing code in the sheetbeforedoubleclick event of a workbook and it works nicely. But,sometimes, as I doubleclick, the cell pointer moves to a new position, above or below the cell double-clicked. It does this inconsistently. Any ideas?

I have run into a problem I haven't seen before on a HP desktop running Win 7 Ultimate x64. The users reported that when they open a window, ~30 instances of the window open at once. The error is intermittent, but since they shut down the PC after each use it may come and go with each boot.

I looked at the machine and it functioned fine after several reboots, but eventually I was able to see some strange results. I didn't see the multiple windows open, but I did have some input issues. The mouse pointer would jump all over the screen and applications would open that were never clicked. The right click did not function correctly. Sometimes the context menu would flash on and off and sometimes nothing. I tried an alternate mouse and using a different USB port with identical results. I have run virus scans, malware scans and a registry scan, but no dice.

Anyone have any ideas. I am stumped.

It does sound like malware to me, you could try this; USB Driver - General Fix for Problems[2]=Hardware%20and%20Drivers it may be of help if different mice are used on this machine.
Maybe trying an online scanner would help or this; http://www.microsoft.com/security/sc...s/default.aspx

Hi everyone, I buy laptop - Lenovo Edge E330. I'm experiencing a very annoying problem - whenever I move the mouse pointer using the touchpad and lift my finger off it, the pointer jumps a bit when lifting my finger. This causes the cursor to miss my target so I have to re-position it every time. I've had this problem with Linux and Windows XP, with or without the Synaptics driver installed. Is there any option in the Synaptics driver to resolve this issue?

Answer:Edge E330 - Pointer jumps when lifting finger off touchpad

Hi, barzefutz

Provided your drivers are fully updated (which you can find here if they need updating), then I would recommend lowering the sensitvity of your Trackpad to reduce instances of this issue. You can change the Trackpad sensitvity by going through Control Panel > Mouse. In this menu, you should see a tab that says Pointer Options. There is a setting to change the speed in this menu.

Good luck,
Adam

Hi everyone. I'm currently having a small issue with my Yoga 3 Pro. For some reason, usually when turning on the computer after standby mode, when I touch the touchpad in order to click on something, the pointer "thinks" I'm still clicking even though I'm not touching the touchpad anymore. The click is only taken into account when I start moving the pointer, realizing I'm not clicking anymore. I've already tried updating with the last driversfrom Synaptics for Windows 10, or trying to increase the strength necessary to move the pointer (in case it was some some kind of "ghost click"), but that doesn't change anything. Rebooting or reinstalling the driver solves the problem, but only for a short time. Any ideas ? Thank you in advance.

Hi, This has happened to me before, a while ago, and am afraid I don't remember how it was fixed before...But recently my mouse pointer disappeared again and the touchpad doesn't do anything. When I click Ctrl, I see where the mouse pointer should be, but it doesn't reapear. Selecting F6 does nothing. I've googled and scanned the forums, but all proposed solutions don't work. Help? Thanks!

Hey, for a few weeks now i've been experiencing some dodgy glitches with my pointer, it will occasionally just jump from wherever it is on screen all the way to the left hand side.

It's highly annoying especially when playing games as it causes me to do a 180 degree spin and completely lose track of where the hell I am. Real problem to do any sort of gaming as I can be trying to click something and it'll jump across the screen and make me click somewhere else and completely ruins the fun for me.

Anybody with an idea what the problem is and how I may be able to fix it would be a superstar Thanks in advance Tech Support Guy!

I have a Yoga 13 Laptop (IdeaPad) 20175.

I upgraded from Win 8.1 to Win 10 Home and have lost the "inertia" or "momentum" setting for the pointer.  I installed the lastest driver from Lenovo, and the new Synaptics Control Panel no longer has an option for this feature.  The feature exists for only scrolling, but not for the mouse pointer!

This is a terrible change!  I very much enjoyed being able to "flick" the mouse pointer in a direction, and have it continue in that direction, slowly losing momentum, and then stopping it on the exact spot I wanted by touching the mousepad again.

Is there any way to get this feature back?  Should I look to install an old version of the driver?  Will that older driver work with Win 10?

Just received my U510 a couple of days ago and the touchpad is driving me crazy.  My pointer moves around in the left/right click areas of the touchpad which is causes me to continually make the wrong selections because of a slight movement made by my finger in the click area. I spoke with both hardware and software support at Lenovo and it appears that this is the way it is.  They uninstalled and reinstalled drivers and tried to make various adjustments, that I had already tried, without success.  I had first level support and they wanted to reinstall the O/S thinking that this was a hardware issue.  I tried to explain that I just simply want my right click to be a right click only and my left click to be a left click only in those areas of the touchpad wihtout my cursor/pointer moving while my finger is in those areas.  They did not understand. I am running on Windows 8.1 and have the latest Windows 8 Synaptic driver 16.2.21.3.  Lenovo tried to install the driver for 8.1 but it will not install.  I don't think it will make a difference anyway. This really isn't a problem just a major annoyance.   Has anyone tried contacting Synaptics about this?  Any suggestions? Thanks---

Hi, I got my new Yoga 720 13-Ikb (i7, 8Go, 256Go SSD version) today. However, i already have a problem with it :  On Windows (not tryed on linux for now), the mouse pointer isn't displayed and the touchpad isn't responding. I've tryed to look for into windows settings but i'm not used to it at all so i've found nothing about a "only touchscreen mode". It's pretty anoying, it's acting like the touchpad was disable. The keyboard is working great. I've followed the windows installation step as usual, i just disable all the "send my personal, network, localisation... information" options. I will try to make it work on linux, if it does, the post will be deleted so if you read this, please help! Hoping someone response,Jules.

**UPDATE** THE ISSUE:This morning I quickly discovered that there was no pointer on my screen.  Restarting does not help.  Also, the clickpad is active with an up-to-date driver that is functioning properly.  In the synaptic settings , I enabled the ability to press control to find the mouse cursor. Howerer when I subsequently press CTRL ,it pinpoints a place on the screen where there is STILL NO POINTER.  Rubbing my finger along the clickpad does not move the supposed pointer location.  But if I use the touchscreen, then the pointer location updates. Sometimes, almost randomly, the pointer appears, but when it does it is either frozen or jumping about the screen like an acrobat.  The worst part is that when it does its jumping them it is actively clicking on stuff.  At this moment it is back to simply being an invisible pointer. Also right clicking is sporadically effective even with no visible cursor. I really, really do not want to reformat since it takes so much time and effort to get everything loaded and back to the way I like it.  Please help!

While scrolling on the touchpad on my Lenovo G50-70, the cursor will regularly jump to the side and start moving back and forth across the screen.  This has been happening since I first bought the computer several months ago but has gotten progressively worse and happens nearly all the time while scrolling.  It occasionally happens while I am not scrolling as well.  I contacted Lenovo and the contact tried to correct the problem (though he did not explain what he was doing).  He told me that to do any more work I would need to purchase a maintenance plan.  However, this has been a problem since the day I bought the computer so it is clearly a defect.  Any advice on how to fix this problem?

I have a brand new Latitude E7470 (Windows 10 Pro) which has some good and some (surprisingly) awful bits, but so far the most surprising and frustrating is that when I tap the touchpad - which acts as a left click - about 90% of the time the mouse pointer moves a few pixels - maybe 10? - before the click event is registered. This doesn't sound like much, but it makes the touchpad at best incredibly frustrating, and at worst unusable.
To clarify: I'm moving the mouse pointer using the touchpad (which works pretty well). I position the mouse pointer over a clickable item - a link in a web page, the "x" to close a tab, a button, etc. - and then use the single tap motion, which should register the same as the left mouse button below the touchpad. And it does register that left click, but the mouse pointer visibly moves several pixels - most often up, but occasionally left or right or diagonally. As a result, the click event either doesn't register, or more likely the pointer isn't over the clickable component anymore so it's like I clicked above or beside it.
I've spent hours experimenting with this, including going back and forth between the new E7470, my ~4 year old Precision M4700, and Macbook Air, just in case this is something weird about how I tap. No matter how carefully (and unnaturally) I click tap on the E7470, the pointer moves. On the other two laptops the pointer never moves when I tap, and simply registers the tap/click event where... Build 14316
So I came home after a long day to find that my laptop was registering my left clicks as right clicks for some reason.
In case you're wondering; nope I did not install anything recently unless you count a security update pushed by MS, but I doubt that's what caused this, because I installed that yesterday and the laptop was working fine until 30 minutes ago.
Solution?
Keep in mind that since your mouse/touchpad isn't working properly, you'll be working with the arrow + "enter" keys to do all of this.
Head into settings (win + i key combo) > Devices > Mouse & touchpad
This will open the Mouse options window, but to get to the options you need to scroll down to the last option on the left side of the window ( using the arrow keys obviously) which is "USB" then hit the "tab" key and you should jump to the actual Mouse options.
If done correctly the box under "select your primary button" should be highlighted. So now all you have to do is hit enter and select "left"
Bit of a crude explanation. Hope you can follow it, but if you have any questions go ahead and ask.
Just thought I should post this in case anyone else runs into this

The right and left click on my Yoga 3 11 touchpad has always been a bit flakey but now it very rarely works at all. Other than that everything else seems to work fine. Scrolling, 2 finger scrolling, tap and double tap are good but the physical clicking makes a sound but doesn't activate. I've done a complete restore to factory Windows 8.1 and just upgraded to Windows 10 Anniversary but still the same problem both for 8.1 and 10. I've looked for a replacement trackpad but can't find one specific to the Yoga 3 11. Does anyone know if another model eg Yoga 2 11 would work or where I could get one?  I also have a Miix 700 which is a tremendous piece of kit but sadly the Yoga 3 11 has been terrible with the CPU throttling and the dodgy trackpad. Any help or advice gratefully accepted. Thanks

I had been having issues with the secondary click features on my Yoga 900, here's the issue and how I fixed it. As those with Yoga 900s (and many other Yoga models) should know, the touchpad allows you to click anywhere except the lower right corner to register as a left click, and the lower right corner registers as a right click. I do not like this, much preferring the Macbook approach of single finger left click, two finger right click. So I turned off the option in the settings which makes the lower right corner behave as a right click, expecting this to make it behave like the rest of the touchpad (left click). I was mistaken, it made this area on the touchpad do nothing. After a couple hours browsing the forums and contacting support, I had no solution, but had resolved to the fact that it was probably a driver bug and there wasn't much I could do other than wait for a driver update. Then I turned to the all-knowing entity that is google. A general tech forum suggested an idea that worked for the Yoga 3, a resigtry edit. Before doing this, I enabled the lower right-hand corner click to be secondary click (same setting I turned off earlier). If you don't do this, the solution may not work Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadRMIHID2cTM3066Backup it! I just bought a Yoga 2 Pro and I find the touchpad unusually hard to click. I measured it at the bottom and it required about 270g to click. For comparison, the spacebar takes about 70g and a the left click of a Logitech G5 takes about 75g. I'm thinking there's a problem here unique to me, since I haven't read any similar complaints from others. Do other Yoga 2 Pro owners find the touchpad difficult to click?

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro touchpad hard to click?

To be honest I do find it quite stiff, but not overly where I would find it a nuisance. However I also prefer to tap click rather than the actual physical press of the touchpad.

Hi

I am having problems with the touchpad of my laptop Equium A210-1AS.
After a while of use the mouse pointer becomes unusable and just starts bouncing around the screen and becomes uncontrollable.

The only solution then is to unplug the laptop and turn off the power, on re boot the touchpad works again.

I am using Windows Vista and have downloaded the latest touchpad drivers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Answer:Equium A210-1AS: Touchpad issue - mouse pointer becomes unusable

It?s very strange issue.
Could you please tell me if this issue happens after the OS reinstallation from the Toshiba recovery CD?
I have read on several Vista forums that some Microsoft Vista updates could have a bad influence on the touchpad driver?
Therefore it would be very interesting to know if this issue appears immediately after the usage of Recovery CD.

Good afternoon all,

I currently have a Satellite series T110-107 and am having issues with the touchpad.

I start the computer up and the touchpad works fine for a few seconds, after this the touch pad ceases to work in its full capacity.
If i roam my finger over the touchpad and the pointer doesnt move, sometimes it will move up and down but not as it should.

Is this a common problem, or is it a hardware issue....or is it the fact i'm just not used to or have the correct settings on windows7?

Any help wuold be great as this is very frustrating!

Kind regards!

Hey guys, today I've got my new Thinkpad Yoga and it's really nice but I don't know if it's the driver or the touchpad it self. I can't push the right mouse button. Whether I use the double tab nor the right corner (at the top or bottom), nothing happens. left click works fine, but only if I activate the on tab option. Already tried to uninstall the driver and reinstallt the new version from the website nothing changed. And sometimes the touchpad and the trackpoint don't work at all. I'm using Windows 8.1 x64. Thanks for your help! lg

Answer:thinkpad yoga touchpad right click does not work

I've recognized something. Sometimes when I use a "click" function of the touchpad a small touchpad icon appears on the notification area. But you can see it only a short time. I think it is definitely a driver issue. Am I the only one?

Hello, im trying to figure out, how to enable 3 finger tap for a middle mouse click on my yoga 720 15. There are some solutions out there suggesting editing the registry, but i don't have the entries they name and no other entries, that could be related to the touchpad for that matter. The device manager lists the touchpad simply as "hid-compatible touchpad" with no further information. I even tried installing the synaptics software on the off chance, that that would work, but it said, that no synaptic device was detected. I can switch the 3 finger tap from opening cortana to opening the info center, to doing nothing, but thats it. Can anyone help me? regards Sebastian

I am always on the move with my laptop and using it in different odd locations (articulations) and this has happened to me since day one with the laptop. Basically, I click on something and it immeditate registers a second click. I am almost certain this is a design flaw where the frame of the laptop is not rigid enough so when I have it on my lap or cradled in one hand, the the frame is twisted in just the right way to have the click register pick up two clicks. It seems to be getting worse and I really don't want to take htis thing apart. Has anyone else seen this or have a fix to it?

Answer:Yoga 13 touchpad registers 2 clicks on single click

I have had the same issue. I never really thought it was an issue with the actual design of the machine itself, but it certainly could be. I just figured it was a software issue since I have had other software related annoyances, such as the screen flickering and whatnot.I have seen this posted a few times on here, so we aren't the only ones with the issue.

Please Lenovo. Please. When you one finger click on the TouchPad in the bottom right corner, it performs a Right Click action. If you want to ONLY Left Click (Primary) for every one finger click on the TouchPad, no matter where you click on the TouchPad, you CAN NOT DO THIS with the current driver. You've made a lot of updates in the driver, but you can't disable this setting? You are forcing me to have a zone that does Right Click action on the bottom right of the TouchPad. Guess what, I click that spot about 200 times a day and have to mouse the mouse to click out of the TouchPad right click menu, then go back and click again what I want to click on. There is no setting to remove the Bottom right corner for Right Click action. It is always on, unless you turn off the TouchPad. Two finger click performs Right Click action no problem on the TouchPad, but we need the ability to have every one finger click be the Left Click (Primary) action, not a zone in the bottom right corner that always does a Rigt click action. All my other TouchPad issues are fixes such as Scroll delay. I used Change PC Settings in Windows 8.1 > PC and Devices > Mouse and TouchPad > TouchPad Set Delay to NONE T440s, ThinkPad Yoga, X1 Carbon user 1st generation. Windows 8.1 Update. After being a loyal T400S and X220T user for many years, I am extremely disappointed with the new T440S touchpad which eliminated the touchpad buttons. This "improved", buttonless touchpad is almost useless for me. It is clunky feeling, often unresponsive and noisy.  The entire experience is just terrible. No amount of configuration has helped. My cursor rolls everytime I try to click.  Please bring back the touchpad buttons.

So I had my Yoga 3 (11.6") in for replacement of the touchpad once and now it is acting up again.  The Elan touchpad is crap.  I cannot use this notebook without a mouse anymore because I cannot use the right click function.  Now I have to carry a mouse with me all the time... what a PITA. I've already install the latest driver on the support website (for Windows 10 x64 and even under Windows 8.1 had the same problem)  I even installed the Yoga 700 driver (basically updated Yoga 3 11inch) Anyone else have a solution? or is it time to have Lenovo repair it again.. (I'm thinking this is a hardware and software problem) Now I have to be without a notebook for another 2-3 weeks.... Never had a problem with HP, ASUS touchpads before, should have gotten a HP Spectre or Macbook Air - so disappointed... Also two finger click doesn't work either when it is enabled in the software, same result.  Tried adusting sensitivity low - high still nothing helps. (Did I get a LEMON?) (I've installed every BIOS and driver update on the support website) I check every week for a fix of the touchpad - nothing.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga Touchpad Left/Right Click Hardware Button Sensitivity

I would suspect that the hard buttons of the touchpad cannot be changed as a mechanical attribute of the hardware. However, I might suggest that the hard buttons of the touchpad may not have to be used very often given the existence of touch alternatives. For example, I'm sure you use the left-click tap gesture often, but also a right-click gesture of simply tapping two fingers anywhere at once may be used instead of having to press the hard button from the bottom-left corner. Additionally, dragging may be accomplished with a double-tap and hold gesture on the touchpad. For instance, to move a window on the desktop, simply double-tap the window title bar but keep a finger down after the second tap. From there objects may be moved/dragged as if a physical button was held. So perhaps with the touch-only drag and right-click gestures you may rely less on use of the hard buttons, and save some strain on your fingers..?

Dear Support,
I have a Dell VOSTRO 3560 laptop that has an Elan Tech SmartPad touchpad. I like its responsiveness very much.
Unfortunately, I recently spilled a bit of coffee and some of that went under the touch pad left and right buttons. The buttons stopped functioning but the touch pad itself is still very good.
Even before the spill I rarely used the buttons. I always used the touch pad to tap to click and two finger tap to right-click.Strangely though, after the spill when the hardware buttons stopped working, the tapping on the touch pad also stopped working. I made sure that the touch pad still can do tap clicking by uninstalling the Dell TouchPad driver and reverting to the Microsoft Mouse PS2 driver. In that case I can use the tap to click feature but only for 1 finger tap. I do not get any other feature as the driver is the simple generic MS one.
My question is would it be possible to still use the Elan tech provided (Dell TouchPad) driver and somehow configure it to accept the tap to click and two finger tap to right-click? This in addition to all the remaining scrolling and gesture support that the driver implements? I tried all the Dell Touchpad settings applet but nothing changed. Perhaps a registry value setting in the section for the elantech?
What seems to be happening now is that the driver is doing some hardware diagnostics, determining that the hardware buttons left and right are not working, and consequently completely disabling left and right click comm... Read more

I have purchase multiple xps 13 and inspiron 13 laptops and observe the same issues.  I tend to use the touch pad with my right hand's index finger, and click the touchpad button with my left hand's index finger.  It's a quick way to get things done.  Many in my organization do this, too and have been running into problems.
However, quite frequently (but not all the time) when I click the button with my left hand the cursor jumps to another location on the screen.  Frequently this is the lower-left corner of the screen, but sometimes it is the upper right, too. This causes different windows to come into focus, or it activates the start menu.  Really , really annoying, and it happens on both laptop models.  Our previous Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro and Acer laptops did not have this issue.
I think this has to do with the touch pad thinking that the user has two fingers on the touch pad and moves the cursor thinking the finger jumped around the pad.  Otherwise the gestures and movement of the touchpad is fine.
Is this a known issue to Dell?  It's really aggravating and other users in my organization are complaining as well.  I may need to return the lot (3 XPS 13, 5 Inspiron 13 machines ) and look at different hardware.

I have the X1 Carbon Touch thinkpad with Windows 8 and I just noticed that I need to click on the touchpad real hard for the click to register. Tapping works fine but clicking requires me to apply a lot of pressure. I have restored the default settings of the touchpad and still have this problem. Are there any known issues with Touchpad click issues and requiring a hard presss?

Answer:X1 Carbon touchpad requires a hard touchpad press and click for click to register

Hi, vtjiggy

Does this apply to the entire TrackPad? Do both left and right-clicking require a great deal of force? You could also try installing the latest Synapatics driver and see if that helps at all. Synaptics is the company that develops UltraNav, which is installed on all ThinkPad systems by default. The latest driver can be found here.

Good luck. Let me know how it goes,
Adam

Answer:G500 Touchpad click issue

hi pushpender,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Try opening the Mouse / Touchpad settings
Open Control Panel / Hardware and Sound / Mouse
The last tab on this Windows should be your touchpad

Once you have that window click on the ELAN hardware then click on options.
Try configuring the tapping option in there.

Let me know your findings
Cheers!

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501, WinXP, and the touchpad is doing double and even triple clicks when I do a single click. The problem is intermittent. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it's horrendous. This almost cripples the computer for doing any serious work (3 windows open instead of one, programs get closed by accident, windows pop up and down all over the place). I have reintstalled the touchpad driver from Dell several times, I have fiddled with all mouse settings in control panel, and I have replaced the actual touchpad hardware, the housing that includes the touchpad, so I don't think it's the physical button itself. However, an external mouse connected to the computer does not have this issue, so it could still be the hardware. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Aaron.

Answer:Lenovo Y 40 70 Touchpad click issue

Hi bb007,

I'm sorry to hear that...

This seems to me like a Hardware Concern.

Try going for a generic touchpad driver and see if he issue is still the same.
Open Device Manager and Open the Mice and other pointing device.
Uninstall the Devices under it and make sure to place a check mark on the Delete driver software prompt.
Restart the computer and check the issue if still the same.

If still the same then I Guess you will need to call Lenovo Technical Support for Hardware assistance.

Mouse pointer works well, until some minutes pass and then it starts to jump around or dissapppearing completely. it happens only for a few seconds and totally randomly, but it never stops. I have a 510S-14IKB Laptop (ideapad), with drivers 'HID compliant mouse' and 'Synaptic pointing device' under the Mice and other pointing devices. I tried to uninstall the synaptic driver, but then I could not change the speed of the touchpad.

I have a system that runs Win 98Hebrew Edition with an optical Genius mouse and quite often the pointer on the screen will just jump to what appears to be random places on the screen.. most annoying when it jumps to right above the X to close a window right when you were about to click on something!! I have checked for spyware and malware through several different means and the system consistantly comes up clean.

Any Ideas????

Answer:Pointer/mouse Jumps

To run System File Checker:

1. Click the Start button, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then point to Select System Tools.
2. Click System Information.
3. On the menu bar, click Tools.
4. Click System File Checker.
5. Choose Scan for altered files

I've found running the system file checker often relieved this symptom, but a word of caution: I'm not certain that 98's version of the system file checker is as reliable as that in later versions of Windows.

JameZ,

I have been experiencing the same problem on my X301 with my touchpad and built-in mouse left/right click buttons.

All of sudden, my touchpad and built-in mouse left/right click buttons stop working.  Alt Cltr Del and clicking on Cancel temporarily returns functionality in the left mouse button and left touchpad button, but not the right buttons on the built-in mouse or touchpad.

I tried to roll-back the driver, but it did not fix the problem.  I also tried an older driver, and no go.

I look forward to the release of the new driver.

Answer:X301 - TouchPad right/left click issue

@btbruner,In regards to your issue, I've read through your PM to me as well. However your issue seems to be different as the drivers for yours are only applicable for the X300 and X301. Also the TouchPad for the X301 has 2 types as well which is the Synaptics one and the Alps TouchPad. Since based on your PM, the TouchPad for your X301 is Alps. Did you have this issue when you first got your X301? Is there any 3rd party application which you have installed after you factory restore the machine such as anti-virus programs?//JameZ

The 100s has no way to disable tap to click on the touchpad. This 'feature' makes it nearly impossible for me to use the touchpad, and I bought this laptop for it to be entirely self contained. Is there any 32bit driver or other solution to disable tap to click?

Hello,

I have a new U920t-102 which I am very happy with, but I have this issue with the mousepad's right click (meaning the 'button' the user is able to press on the bottom-right side of the mousepad): sometimes it actually works as a right click, sometimes it works as a left click.
This is annoying especially during web navigation: I'm used to right click on links and open them in a new tab, but when the right click acts as left, I loose the current web page.

I tried to figure out what this behaviour depends on, looking at the animated synaptic icon in windows' tray bar while playing with the left and right click; if I continuosly press the right click button on the mousepad, after some repetitions it will consistely and correctly work as right click, but if press the left click once or more than once, the right click button works as left click for some pressures, and then 'corrects' itself and start again to work correctly.

Any idea/suggestion? is it a hardware problem?

Marco

Answer:Satellite U920t-102 touchpad right click issue

Usually the touchpad right / left click can be configured in the Synaptics settings.
Right click on Synaptics icon in tray and point to devices properties.
In buttons tab you will be able to choose right handed scheme or left handed.
Here you could choose the scheme appropriate for you.

You can also try to uninstall the Synaptics touchpad driver and could test the touchpad functionality without the usage of additional touchpad software.

But if this doesn’t help, your might have hardware problem

My new Yoga 11e often boots with the touch pad not working. A restart by using the touch screen and it works again... I've got the newest drivers installed. And Windows 8.1 x64 is fully updated. On the occasions when it doesn't work, there are several Event ID 219 errors (task category 212) in the System Event Log. These refer to to following - : 'The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ROOT\SYSTEM\0002''The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ROOT\SYSTEM\0003''The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ROOT\SYSTEM\0004''The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ROOT\SYSTEM\0005''The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ROOT\SYSTEM\0006''The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device HID\ITE8386&Col02\4&3a253277&0&001' This is the order they appear in - with the 0002 happening first. Note the different caps on the last one - thats as per Event Log. I've set the Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework' service to Automatic. This is listed as 'Automatic (Trigger Start)'. But the problem still occurs -  mainly after the laptop have been turned off for more than 10 minutes.  Anyone else noticed this problem?

UPDATE After innocently installing the suggested Power Management Driver update via the Lenovo System Update application Windows 8 completely killed itself and I had to use the recovery USB stick I made to Refresh windows and get it working again! That's really disappointing Lenovo - and quite ridiculous that a suggested update should break the laptop so easily. After this the SYSTEM errors vanished - so I've linked those errors to the Logitech Anywhere MX mouse I was using. This mouse has not been reconnected.... The trackpad still fails to function though - with the same error in Event Log. Going to run all the main updates (apart from the Power Management one!) in System Updates and see what happens.

My mouse pointer keeps jumping all around the screen, activating menus, dialog boxes, windows, etc., sometimes (almost) deleting or changing things. I'm using an AOpen, PS/2, wired, 2-button mouse and awaiting the delivery of a new, Microsoft Basic USB Optical mouse, which may solve all my problems with this one. Until then, I'm stuck with a system that's practically unusable. Below is my HijackThis info. I hope it gives you what you need. I appreciate your help. Thank you.

Answer:Mouse pointer jumps all over the screen

TechSupport Gurus: Would you believe this . . . ???? Just as I sent the previous message (with the HijackThis info) to your forum, there was a knock on my door and a neighbor presented me with a package containing my long-awaited Microsoft Basic USB Optical mouse. It had been mis-delivered to his address by FedEx. If I had only received it a minute earlier, I would not have sent my previous message or now be writing this message!!! I immediately removed my old mouse from its PS/2 socket and plugged in the new mouse to the USB port and BEHOLD!!! The mouse was detected and my pointer jumping problem is gone!!!!

My theory is that some recent Microsoft update (all of which I download and install religiously) made the assumption that _all_ mice at this stage of the Windows game is either a USB mouse or at least is a wheel-mouse. So (I think) the problems I was having was just a mouse function that was looking for a wheel to twirl when there was none. Whatever, I'm back where I want to be. Thank you for being there for folks like me when we need you! Where else could we turn? Thanks again!!!

Sounds not good, did you tried to connect a external mouse to check if this happens with it? If not, then try it.
But a good idea would be to bring your machine to a authorised service partner, to let him check if your machine has a hardware related issue.

I had the same problem with my Tecra S1, so I sent it to my local service partner and they fixed it with exchanging the touchpad and the keyboard.

I share my desktop (Windows 7) with my partner. However, my mouse, which is plugged in to my computer and is a Logitech US Laser Mouse, jumps around when I start up my desktop or when my partner and I need to change access. To stop the mouse jumping, I have had to adjust the mouse settings daily.

I have tried different mouse units but without any luck. However, when I go to:
Devices and Printers
USB Laser Mouse
right click, Mouse Settings
Hardware
there seems to be two devices showing. I am wondering if this is causing my computer some confusion on start up. The two settings are:
HID-Complaint mouse - mice and other point devices
USB Input Device - Human Interface device
Should one or other be deleted, so my computer is not confused or in conflict on start-up? I am not sure which setting applies to my Logitech corded mouse.

Thank you for any assistance.

I have a lenovo think pad x220 tablet using on a wireless network, if I am not constantly moving the mouse pointer (regardless if I use the touch pad or a mouse) it will suddenly jump to a different point on the screen, opens programs on its own. It took a long time to write this message due to the cursor jumping off the typing area. When i place the cursor back to whatever I am doing, a little picture of a keyboard comes up. When the computer is sitting idle it even occurs, you can watch the mouse pointer disappear and reappear in a different spot on the screen. It highlights desktop icons, opens programs. I am starting to wonder if someone has a remote connection and is messing with me. Sometimes it happens quickly and other times slower, it is worst when I first turn on the computer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

see if that works. make sure to un-install the old one first before installing a new one.

Hope this helps,

For no apparent reason the mouse pointer has started jumping randomly over the screen. At times it goes on a half-minute or so round-the-world trip, activating a lot of blank menus and options. I've had to shut down the PC a couple of times today because I totally lost control of what was going on. This just started yesterday. Any ideas?
Thank you.

Answer:Mouse pointer jumps all over the screen

Well, have you tried using a different mouse and seeing if the same problem occurs? That would narrow it down. Tell us what kind of mouse this is, too. Is it wireless?

I have a toshiba satellite celeron mobile 1.5, 40GB hard disk, 512 MB ram, dvd-rw, wireless, modem, lan.
I have a problem when typing in some documents, or just typing some stuff. When I type in example world or writing an email my mouse pointer jumps 5 or 3 or 10 lines up (or somewhere else), I normaly use a touchpad. This problem is disturbing me since when I bought this laptop (september 2005).
I downloaded and instaled a new BIOS, but it's the same problem - mouse pointer jumps....

Anybody have a solution?

Hi

Try to disable the touchpad during the typing. You can use the key combination FN+F9.
I have checking some postings in this forum and usually this should help.

Hello All,I am not sure what changed recently, but when I click on the left button on the touchpad, it opens the menu options that should show up when you right click. The right click button functions as normal. (So basically, at the moment, both the left and the right click do the same thing.) For example, if I have the desktop/home screen in focus and I click on the left mouse button, I get the standard menu: View, Sort By, Refresh Paste etc.I tried going to settings and changing the 'Primary' button option and also tried the 'Switch Primary/Secondary Button' option; did not help. I also tried to look for updated drivers; no luck. Please note: I am NOT using an external mouse. I am talking about the one long button at the bottom of the trackpad.Any suggestions?

Hey everyone, Hope you're all doing well! I have been encountering this weirdly annoying issue with the Yoga 910 touchpad. Every once in a while, the touchpad seems to stop responding to taps, only if I click it down physically, will the left click register. Otherwise, tapping just presses it down and gets it stuck. Restarting or logging out fixes the issue. I just wanna know if there is any way to at least reset the mouse driver w/o turning off the laptop.. Very annoying issue and completely weird to be honest.. Hope someone can offer some help!! Thanks in advance!!

I just got the laptop on 9/20/17 and I quickly noticed the touchpad has delay response on google chrome browser and other apps. When i try to copy/paste the words on the browser it has 2-3 sec delayed to highlight and when scrolling and moving the pad it is frozen for a second. I did update the firmware and raised sensitivity but nothing works. anyone knows what the problem is before i exchange this laptop?

Mouse pointer works well, until some minutes pass and then it starts to jump around or dissapppearing completely. it happens only for a few seconds and totally randomly, but it never stops.
I have a 510S-14IKB Laptop (ideapad), with drivers 'HID compliant mouse' and 'Synaptic pointing device' under the Mice and other pointing devices. I tried to uninstall the synaptic driver, but then I could not change the speed of the touchpad.

I recently got a replacement for my old laptop which had some graphic problem. Really happy with the customer service of Lenovo. Only untill my new laptop started giving me problems within 1 week. The problem is everytime I plug in the adapter to charge the laptop the mouse pointer starts jumping up and down. Its shaky and does not travel in a straight line. This occurs only when the laptop is on charge. When I remove the adapter it behaves normally and fine. I googled this problem and saw that many other people have faced the similar problem. Is there a solution for this or is it a hardware problem ? I am really dissappointed since the new laptop has started giving problems within 1 week.

Thinkpad Yoga:Lately the click function doesn't work fine, only 20% of the time it actually reacts. The left and right click section do not work at all anymore. The tap for left and two finger tap for right do work.An external mouse works perfect. ThinkPad UltraNav Driver 18.0.7.40 installed 5-may-2014... that's about the time the issue started!!I reinstalled (via control panel, etc) the older version 18.0.7.34 which was on the system since 7 april 2014, reboot and the touchpad does work again. The left and right click section also ok again. So there seems to be an issue with ThinkPad UltraNav Driver 18.0.7.40 on the Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga .... ???

Hi, I'm having a problem with the left-click on my Z580. The trackpad and right-click continue working fine, but the left-click (and single tap on touchpad, equivalent of left-clicking) suddenly stop working completely. I think both times it happened I was try to highlight some text, so holding the left-click down, so I'm not sure whether that has anything to do with it. It happened yesterday, and again today. Restarting the laptop fixed it both times, but it worries me! Do you think it's a physical problem with the touchpad, or a driver issue? I only bought the laptop in summer  2013, but it was a display model so I guess the touchpad has had more use than most of this age. Still, I thought Lenovos were pretty reliable so hadn't expected a problem so soon. I'm not very knowledgably with the technicalities of computers (but can follow instructions!) so any help would be hugely appreciated as I'm not sure where to start trying to diagnose the issue.

This is a good example of how extremely annoying this problem is.. I just typed out my entire question, went to backspace on a word, and my mouse clicked elsewhere, and backed me up to the previous page. I'm furious >.<

Tap to click is driving me crazy, because my touchpad is so sensitive that while I'm typing my wrists set it off. I don't have an external mouse, so all I want disabled is the tap to click itself.

I have been reading forums all day trying to find a fix to my problem. At first, I did not have "Device settings" tab available on my touchpad properties. I was told to install a driver, which then provided that tab. I was told within that tab to click on settings, and there would be a click box to uncheck. There isn't. All I can change is what the two click buttons do. It says nothing about the touchpad itself. Anyone understand this? I would really appreciate the help. I'm getting frustrated >.<

Answer:Tap-to-click touchpad issue, existing forums no longer helping

Touchpad problem.

I don't use a laptop, but have written about this 'fix' before, and I was told it works.

Hi, When using the touchpad on my T430, my click buttons rarely work as intended. Sometimes, they begin to work after the laptop goes to sleep, or occasionally an entire boot is okay. However, this is rare. When it isn't working, what happens is that the right click doesn't function at all, and the left click seems to be more of a left click + context menu key rather than a pure left click. I've tried reinstalling the Ultranav drivers, restoring their settings to the default (I can confirm that the left click is set up to function as a left click, and right as a right click - if I set up the right click to function as a left click, both do the odd context menu behavior), and even doing a complete BIOS update, to no avail. I've yet to try this in another OS, so I haven't yet isolated this to a hardware or software issue. What could be my issue? I am not under warranty and would prefer to not send in my laptop for repair. EDIT: I was able to fix the weird context menu behavior by disabling the Menu Key in SharpKeys (mapping key 117 (0x0075) to do nothing (0x0000)). However, my right click still does nothing. I can bind it using the Ultranav settings to be a left click, and in this mode, it left clicks. Anything bound to be a right click literaly does nothing. Any ideas? EDIT2: I ran sfc /scannow on an elevated command prompt and it fixed a lot of errors. It drastically sped up my computer; what's odd is that I've hardly installed anything on here, ... Read more

Answer:Issue with left click on trackpoint, touchpad and mouse - Lenovo T61

Hello,

A few things to try:

?  Create a new user account, login using that and see if the problem still occurs.  If the problem goes away, then it is due to software running under your user account.
?  Start Windows in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs.  If the problem goes away, it was due to an application which runs on startup.
?  Boot the computer from a Linux Live CD/USB and see if the problem still occurs.  If it does, then the problem is not due to the operating system and you are dealing with a hardware issue.

In the case of the latter, the usual fix would be to replace the keyboard.

Hi there, after receiving my S1 Yoga I was quite happy about the possibility to slide the finger on the right edge of UltraNav Touchpad and by holding it navigate up and down through the Charms bar. Now, after updating all the drivers I can still activate the Charms bar by sliding, but am not able to navigate through the Charms bar list by holding the finger and moving it up and down. Is there a way to fix it so the navigation would work again?

After the latest updates there's an issue with Synaptic touchpad drivers. E.g. the two-finger reverse scrolling option has defaulted and is greyed out under the touchpad settings (like most other settings) - see the attached screenshot. When closing the touchpad settings window, it takes long time and crashed few times. Please assist.

Hello, my Thinkpad Yoga touchpad has decided to entirely stop working. Here's what happened: A couple of days ago, I re-start my computer. I click continue. It boot up, yet my touchpad was entirely non-functional. I'm using a brand new Yoga 13 (Window 8 Pro).  Clicking on the touchpad (not the touch screen) sometimes has issues.  Specifically, every once in a while, a single-click on the touchpad will result in double-click behavior. I'm not referring to tapping, but rather physical clicking (press, depress touchpad on the lower left). I disabled tap-to-click in case it was registering the tap, and then the click.  That didn't resolve the issue. I also increased the speed required (within Windows) for a double-click to the fastest (least time between clicks) possible.  That also didn't resolve the issue. It really seems like the touchpad, every once in a while, registers a double-click, like some sort of physical defect in the touchpad that presses, depresses, presses depresses immediately. Ideas?

Hi All,in the last days i performed a bios upgrade for an issue that now is solved: sometime when i powered on my Yoga 260 only with battery - fully charged - it didn't switch on.....it needed to feel the AC plugged in just for a minute (and than plugged it off), to let me switch on the laptop with battery.  After the Bios Upgrade (N1GET84W 1.63 - 21/12/2017), everythings seems to work properly except for Touchpad/Trackpad: Uefi Bios is correctly configured with the two field of Touchpad and Trackpoint "Enabled"I upgraded all driver of my laptop from Windows Update and from Lenovo Support web page (also checked from Lenovo Vantage app)Under "Mouse Settings" the Touchpad/Trackpoint settings are enabledMouse Settings                    My O.S.: Windows 10 Pro - Versione: 10.0.16299 - Build: 16299 I searched on forum and on internet but i found similar issues with no solutions that worked for me. Any idea about it? Best regards to all and Happy New Year!

I'm not sure if anyone else is having this issue, but on my Y2P the sensitivity and accuracy of the touchpad is altered dramatically if there is a second user logged on in the background. With a single user logged in the touchpad works just fine, but as soon as you switch to a different user the mouse movement becomes very sporadic to the point that any kind of accuracy with the pointer is nearly impossible. I can pull up the task manager and log the second user out and everything returns to normal, but then logging a second user in again causes the problem to return. Not sure if this is a Microsoft or Lenovo issue, but it will definitely be a deal breaker for me if it cannot be fixed. Thanks in advance Edit: Spoke to Lenovo tech support. Apparently the Yoga 2 Pro was not designed to support multiple users and because there is only one driver, having two users logged in interferes with the touchpad operation... I kid you not, that is what I was told.

Dear friends,

I am using an INSPIRON 1545 Dell laptop PC with Windows Vista Ultimate.
The mouse pointer of my PC often jumps automatically backwards to a previous line or word while I type a text with MS Word (or Notepad. or OpenOffice Writer).
So, a word or a group of words is inserted to a wrong place in the text.
Here is an example. When I typed the follwing line

Business emails to clients may be either semi-informal or formal depending on the individual relationships.

What I got is:

Hi,I am used from my t500 to click and hold middle button on the Ultranav and move up and down with the touchpad to scroll up and down. However, this does not work on my t510 anymore. At least it does work sometimes for some seconds in google chrome; but just for some short moments. The default behaviour is, that when i'm clicking the middle button the scroll symbol in form of a little scrollbar appears. I can then scroll by using the trackpoint, but not by using the touchpad. Using the touchpad has just the effekt, that the symbol disappears.Sometimes another symbol appears; its the symbol with the arrows pointing in all direktions. Only when this symbol appears i am able to scroll by moving on the touchpad. Now i am looking for a solution to my problem.by the way: when i use the trackpoint, the touchpad is locked for some seconds. Is there a way to disable this? Best Greets, matthias.

I'm really hoping someone can help me resolve this very irritating issue. When I'm on a website using the google browser and single tap on my touchpad to go to a link from an image link, my computer automatically downloads the link instead of taking me to said link. I have deleted countless .htm files from my downloaded folder and sometimes have to click the links two or three times for it to actually work.

I would like to do some gaming on my Yoga.  I just loaded Bioshock and was happy to find that the performance is very acceptable at the max graphics settings.  I would like to hear from anyone else regarding their experience with games.  What games work for you?  I am especially interested in pay Skyrim is will work. There is one annoying issue - the touchpad and keyboard don't seem to be working well together.  I can't pan my view while moving and when I stop moving there is a hesitation before the touchpad works.  This gets pretty annoying because it makes it hard to play an FPS.  Any suggestions> Thanks for your help.

I have been playing World of Warcraft on my yoga without issue. Results are in the 30-50fps range which for the Intel graphics is quite reasonable. One thing you might try instead of the track pad is an external mouse.

Hi so my Windows 10 XPS L502X touchpad has started behaving weirdly. I believe this is because of some Windows 10 updates, I am not sure.
The problem is that since laptop starts the left click seems to be sending clicked signal forever. Because of this on boot, the mouse starts in selection mode, I need to press the left click on an external mouse to disengage selection mode. But still the left click and tap to left click dont work.
But the weird part is when I change right touch pad button to left click behavior in settings. Then even the right button would now stop working. And if I change the left click button behavior to anything else then left click behavior then left click starts working too.
Hence coming to the conclusion that its a driver issue and not hardware problem.
However when I boot my laptop in Ubuntu, the left click is again in clicked mode and starts selecting stuff. Now if this was a driver problem then why is Ubuntu showing same issue. Is this a Hardware problem now. Now since dell officially does not support Win 10 on L502x. I request my fellow L502x owners using Windows 10 to share their driver details. And if anyone from Dell can share their thoughts. Regards.

Just got a brand new laptop, Dell Inspiron 11 3137, and updated to windows 8.1. The touchpad does not work properly now; gestures/scrolling/pointer not working. I've spent over 16 hours getting windows 8.1 installed and then troubleshooting this issue. I've contacted Dell; updated the driver from Dell, even tried installing the latest driver from Synaptic. I even tried setting the Synaptic app to run under the windows 8 version.
Touchpads have been around a long time. It's the last thing I expect not to work properly.
At this point I am ready to send the laptop back and call it quits on windows.
Can anybody help with this?

Hi,
SO, You're having problems with 8.1 and the Synaptics Dell Touchpad!? I wish I could say I've never seen this before. I won't open up with "Have you tried this?" Instead, I'm confident this will "fix what ails ya"  There have been a wealth of problems with touchpads (Alps included) and not just on Dell systems, during the transition from windows 8 to 8.1 (I still can't figure out why they didn't just call it SP1) IN ANY EVENT> give this a go and please get back to me after you've done it so I can share with others who are experiencing the same problem. I'll explain WHY these steps at the end...Go ahead peek ...I won't tell anyone!
Locate the current driver for your touchpad from  Dell Support by entering your service tag number here:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriversHome/ShowProductSelector?fkey=Drivers_PS
SAVE the download to somewhere convenient like your desktop (you can put it somewhere else later)
1) From the control panel under Programs / Uninstall a Program locate the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver and completely uninstall the software.  but DO NOT RESTART if prompted. Instead select the restart later option.
2) From the control panel under Hardware and Sound locate the Device Manager in the Devices and Printers category and click on it (device manager may require admin permission.)

When I've got my ThinkPad w530, there was (as usually at every ThinkPad laptop) UltaNav enhanced setting dialog (if I remember correctly, these settings resided at the last tab of OS mouse settings dialog - Control Panel -> Mouse). I have spent a lot of time to configure touchpad according to my needs. But than I've updated my Windows 7 x64, as Microsoft recommended, and installed some hardware drivers and user applications... And at some moment I've suddenly discovered, that the touchpad and the stickpoint do not work anymore the way I've configured them. Yes, they work, but in the most basic default mode. Furthermore, when I tried to look at the configuration dialog I had used before to configure them, I found, that this settings dialog is totally gone. Now my Windows Control Panel mouse setting menu looks as the following screenshot:http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/1284/s0dd.gif Is there any way to restore (re-activate) manually Lenovo UltraNav settings dialog for the touchpad and the stickpoint? Many thanks in advance!
