Windows 8 Reset, Lenovo OneKey Recovery, Partitions - confusion

Question: Windows 8 Reset, Lenovo OneKey Recovery, Partitions - confusion

Hi everyone, I have a few questions - I have a Yoga 2 Pro: 1. I created a separate partition for my documents on the hard drive. If I use Lenovo OneKey Recovery will that destroy the partition? 2. Following Question 1, will the OneKey Recovery run successfully given the existence of said partition? 3. I assume that the OneKey Recovery image on the hard drive provided by Lenovo includes all their software (OneKey Recovery, Energy Manager, EasyCamera, etc). If I use the Windows 8 Reset feature will that software still be installed or will it be a completely clean OS - as if, for example, I were to acquire a windows 8 ISO and use that for installation? 4. Where the heck is my Windows 8 Product Key? Thanks in advance, - ice

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

By doing so, you lose support to their OKR software and you will need to pay them $ in the event that you need to reformat your computer to factory (using their disks). The product key comes pre-embedded in the Windows install. Unless you use a key extractor on your current install, you may lose your key for good since I doubt your OKR system works anymore.

Hi, i had a problem with my Lenovo Yoga 13, I recovered all the data but the partitions are all messed up, and Onekey Recovery doesn't work. I know is something about the partitions, I had also a problem with something called "Intel Rapid Technology" giving me an error, i fixed it creating a partition and setting the id of it (i saw that on this forum somewhere). My list of partitions is this:    Number    Type           Size            Offset------------- ---------------- ------- ---------------Partition 1 OEM           1000 MB      1024 KBPartition 2 System       260 MB        1001 MBPartition 3 OEM           1000 MB      1261 MBPartition 4 Reserved   128 MB         2261 MBPartition 5 Primary       92 GB          2389 MBPartition 6 Primary       4096 MB      95 GBPartition 7 Unknown     8191 MB      99 GBPartition 8 OEM            12 GB          107 GB The partition 7 is the one that I created. I think that partition 1 and partition 8 should appear as "Recovery" type partitions, but I don't know how to set them so. The data in the "D" partition is all there, but i'm not sure about the others, but... Read more

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 13 disk partitions for onekey recovery... or delete onekey?

hi iperich,

In some cases, if the partition structure of the hard drive is changed, OneKey Recovery may cease to work.

If you're leaning towards freeing up space on the Yoga 13, check this Yoga 13 Hotfix.

Alternatively, you can also try the following.
1. Create a recovery drive (if it's still applicable - this is to backup your recovery partition into a flashdrive)
2. Follow this guide by Yikes2000. on how to manually repartition the Yoga 13.

In regards to manually deleting partitions 6,7, and 8, this would be fine if the OS is located in partition 5 (ensure that you back-up important files first).

I have been away and not used the laptop for a few days and got the above message in a grey text box asking me to OK it. It is not something that I have initiated. Is this something I should be wary of or is it OK to continue using laptop? I'm using AVAST anti-virus which is up to date. Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi guys. So I backed up all of my data into an external hard drive using the built-in Lenovo OneKey Recovery 8. My laptop is the Lenovo Y500 running the Windows 8.1 OS. After backing up my data, I decided to dual-boot Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 but for that to work I needed to do a fresh install of Windows 7 first. So I used diskpart to clean out my hard drive and partitioned it during the installation process of Windows 7. The bad thing here is that I think I also deleted the OneKey Recovery partition in the process.  My question then is how will I be able to recover my backed up data now? Will I be able to recover the OneKey Recovery partition? How will I be able to install OneKey Recovery 8? Thanks so much for answering.

Hello! I need to do a recovery on my system to the factory settings using ORK. But I have partitioned my HD in two parts, one for the system and another for personal archives. I want to know that if I restore, the D: partition will be formatted too and if yes, there is a way to don't do that? Thx

Hello I bought an IdeaPad z470 about 2 years ago. It's now having many problems (blue screens, running REALLY slow, etc) so I thought about restoring the OS to factory defaults. I use this computer for work and I have a D:\ partition with 240GB of data and files. I want to make sure I do not lose this partition since I currently have nowhere to backup this data to. I was sure that when I bought it, it came with only a C:\ partition (as most computers with pre-installed software do) and that I had reduced it and created the D:\ partition.  I did some searching here and apparently it already came with that partition? I honestly cannot remember if I did create it or it already came with it? Could someone confirm this? Here's an image of how the drive looks right now. Do these sizes look alright? I need to be 100% sure that OneKey recovery will not delete my data!  What if I did create it? will I lose it? Thank you very much!

If OKR is not functioning then you can't restore your system to factory default and that also means that you did mess up with the original partitions. Note: I'm assuming that your unit has the pre-installed os when you first received it.

So. My notebook has an issue related to the screentouch. Lenovo's assistants says they only can help me if I have Windows 8 on my notebook. But I updated it to Windows 8.1. Now I need to downgrade to Windows 8 'till they fix my computer. I already have the Windows 8 DVDs, but before I downgrade I'd like to know: 1. I'll be able to use OKR to restore a backup of my current system, with all my software and settings? 2. I've partitioned my HD in order to keep personal stuff (media, data, documents) in D:, instead C:. OKR will erase the content of other partitions? Can I safely use it or D: can be affected? Thanks in advance

Answer:Will OneKey Recovery delete other partitions?

Hi Rrsanches84,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I understand your concern and if the D drive is not formatted the OKR (One Key Recovery) features will work as expected as the D drive will contain a Hidden Recovery Partition. Also by performing the OKR now will erase all the data in D drive also and take the computer to its Factory Settings.

Hi Vinay,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per your query we understood that you are facing the issue with system recovery on ThinkPad E430.

I am sorry to inform you that ThinkPad system will not be having One Key Recovery option. To perform the system recovery you have to use ThinkVantage button on the system or you can use the recovery disc which you have created after the system purchase.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

How do I fix it?Thank you

I just purchased a new Z50-70 (run-out stock) with Windows 8.1, and am trying to understand Onekey Recovery, disk partitions etc. I read a lot of the blogs on this, but still not clear. In this Lenovo support documenthttp://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht077144it says"NOTE: The far left small Recovery Partition, EFI System Partition and Windows 8 operating system partition, is required by Windows 8. The larger Recovery Partition is the Lenovo created partition." When I look at my hard drive, it appears different to above document. Answer:Disk Partitioning on Lenovo Z50-70 with Windows 8.1 and OneKey Recovery

First about the partiitons. Refer to this link. It described each particular partiition. From the link you gave the 13 GB space is the OKR recovery partition. To your Hdd the 13.72 GB labelled as Recovery Partition is the OKR Recovery partition. To be strict about these two partitions they are really user OKR backup storage partition. There are other partitions needed by OKR through the NOVO button. You should be able to see them using a third party partiition program like EaseUs Partition Manager. Second. As to your important question: "The most important question I have, is what happens if my internal hard drive fails after several years (like it did on my previous DELL laptop). I will hopefully have a good Windows System Image Backup, but with no recovery disks, if I wanted to purchase a new internal replacement hard drive, how can I get a copy of the essential OneKey partitions, to get to a state to recover my Windows System Image backup." Comment: If you made a system image or backup using Windows you will only get Windows when you restore. As to the OKR (Onekey Recovery) partitions you will not be able to restore them. If you made the backup using OKR then you will be able to restore them from the date you made the backup. This means updated OS plus programs you installed. This will only happen if the OKR partitions remain in place. So if you use a new hdd which does not  have the OKR partitions you will not be able to restore your OKR backup.

Hi everybody i hope you are all doing great. Laptop Details:Lenovo Y50-70 Laptop (Lenovo) 203784720hq512ssd960m16gb ram I made a clean install to my lenovo laptop so I lost some essential applications that came with my laptop. I installed almost all the drivers and apps at lenovo driver support download page without problems but i could not find some of lenovo apps that came in my laptop when i bought it and I really need them. The only one available in the driver download page were Lenovo energy manger. The most importants for me that i need are lenovo onekey recovery app and lenovo updates. For onekey recovery I only need the app, not the files to restore the whole partition, because the recovery partition is intact, I did not format it. So I only need the app that opens it. Th apps I want to get back are:1. Lenovo Onekey Recovery app - The one I am more interested in.2. "Lenovo Updates' (lenovo updates is the name of the app) The scond one im am more interested in.3. Lenovo Settings4. Lenovo companion If someone can guide me to where to download each of them, it would be great. I would need for windows 8.1 64 bit or windows 10. Thank You, I hope you can help me.

Hi Forum, I have this Lenovo Y450 which was upgrade to Windows 7 32bit sometime back. It have hanged a couple of time (and each time the Windows cannot run anymore) and I had to reinstall Vista and upgrade to Windows 7 again because at that time I do not know how to use the Onekey Recovery yet. Right now I have downloaded the latest driver and software from Lenovo site including the OneKey Recovery 7.0. I realised that button Onekey shows it is OneKey Recovery 6.0.I hope it is compatible. Anyway, I found out that when I try to create a backup first using the Onekey Recovery 7.0, it stop half way and give an error message - PowerRecover has stopped working. I've been spending the last 3 days trying to setup onekey recovery. after tons of reading and even trying 7.0 engineering, there has been no result. Using 7.0 option 2 leads me to a disk error when it selects disk 0 which is the 24 gb ssd included in the laptop which I don't know the content. The original 1 TB HDD has been replaced by a 250 gb ssd. The seller migrated or mirrorred the data which now the onekey does not recognize. After failing with onekey, I then moved on to windows recovery. I tried using the windows way which is through the windows recovery utility. but reached some dead ends as well. First is making the recovery usb, the partition was not clickable. then I managed to make the partition clickable to be included by downloading windows enterprise evaluation and exporting the install.wim to become my img for use? I manage to get the program recovery to run but when I tried refreshing it ends with the program unable to refresh. I tried booting the usb and using the refresh button there and this leads me now to the message the drive your windows is installed is locked. tried bootrec /fixboot which leads to element not found. I also tried the use image option from the boot recovery but it says there is none when i also followed the custom image option process by windows This has been so frustrating that a simple process can become so complicated. Help anyone? please? Thanks.

On the Lenovo Onekey Recovery, I selected the option to restore system partition to its initial status. Now I'm not sure what this does exactly, but it then asked for what language I wanted to use and then username and password. And before I could type in anything, the screen turn black and no matter what I did, it wouldn't budge from there. Now I don't know if I accidentally removed windows and I don't know how to get it back. Does anyone know what options I have?

Hello. I have a Lenovo Z570 laptop (Intel i5 2430, 8 GB Ram, 750GB HDD, Intel Graphics Hd 3000 with GeForce 540M, Intel Wifi Link 1000 bgn). There was Lenovo branded Windows 7 with recovery partition on it. But unfortunately i formatted whole disk, erasing also recovery partition. Is there any way to get the lenovo windows version with preloaded drivers?

Answer:I wiped all partitions, how to restore Windows 7 Lenovo and 1Key Recovery?

Good day and welcome to the community.

As you state you've wiped the entire HDD, you'll need to contact Service to discuss factory out-of-box state recovery.

Hi.Let's just say I did something really stupid and now I want to restore my laptop to factory settings. The previously mentioned stupid thing happened during the installation of Kali Linux so right now, I don't know whether Kali is installed or not.Does running the OneKey feature restore the entire laptop back to factory state, along with the removal of Kali?If not, exactly what all does it revert and how do I know if Kali has been installed or not?

I bought a G50-70 laptop recently - the one with FreeDOS on it.I found a 1GB partition in the HDD and deleted it thinking it was created for FreeDOS.Then I created a 100GB partition and installed windows 8.1 in it, which works quite well, The Novo button has a system recovery option, but this just boots Windows now.How to make Onekey Recovery work on this system? Is it possible?

Answer:Lenovo G50-70 onekey recovery

hi melvincv,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

The 1GB partition that you deleted might have been the OneKey Recovery app (but lacks the backup file to restore from factory since the unit came with FreeDOS) and ideally, the OneKey Recovery requires the recovery partition for it to work.

I got on my Lenovo z50-70  today and as it turned on I got a message saying Application error saying "Application has generated an exception that could not be handled. Process ID=0Xa84 (6788) Thread ID=0x1118(4376) Cick OK to terminate the application  or click Cancel to debug the application."   then all of a sudden the PC shutdown giving the error "PC has run into a problem and had to shutdown. The stop code waa DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL   What failed was tidsvycf.sys"  and as the laptop rebooted it ran a disk check but then as the laptop restarts and works for less than a minute but then it goes back to Application Error. I've tried clicking OK and cancel and neither work.  This kept happening for a while so I decided to go to System Recovery to reset my laptop back to factory settings. Which I've done in the past when my laptop got stuck on updates. But this time when I got on OneKey Recovery I got the error saying "program can't find initial backup image". Attached is the picture.. Now how do I factory reset my laptop..  When I got the laptop it was Windows 8. I upgraded it to Windows 10 using assisting technologies. So it was a windows 10.

Hi ZheeSheeter,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The hidden recovery partition is imaged only in the factory are cannot be recreated the same even with a recovery disc. Only by sending it to the same depot facility to restore it back.

If the Hidden Partition is destroyed:
If the hidden partition is destroyed or replaced hard drive, you won't be able to restore the system through Lenovo OneKey Recovery software. You need to utilize the Recovery DVD, read more from below related articles:How to recover the system to Factory settings with Recovery DiscsHow can I get a system recovery CD, DVD or USB from Lenovo

Answer:Lenovo OneKey Recovery Question

Hi lor1cal, Did your laptop come with a disc based os or is it pre-installed on the (D) partition, I`m not sure if onekey recovery backs up (d), Thats where you could encounter problems when you swap out for the ssd Got it, Open control center & click recovery, The program will copy the os on the (d) partition onto a flash drive (your flash drive will need 16gb or more space), Once done you should be able to install the os & then your backed up data to your new ssd. Hopefully One you have created the usb recovery you will be asked if you want to delete (D) from your hard drive *Do not*. You may need to replace the ssd with the hdd if anything should go wrong, Think of it as your master backup!  Let me know how it works out... Hope that helps! Catt

Ive been having issue with my lenovo G580 laptop. Its been stuck in a constant startup repair loop.

Using posts on this forum, ive tried to rectify the problem myself but realised its beyond me but Ive made changes using the DISKPART feature of windows at the command prompt stage, and I think ive disabled the recovery options.

Ive tried to use the onekey recovery service preinatlled onto the laptop. Usually just press the recovery button, next to the power button but pressing this now just boots into the system repair loop.

Does anyone know how I can rectify this?

Answer:How to re enable lenovo onekey recovery

You can try setting the recovery partition active using partition wizard boot disk, then rebooting to try one key recovery again. There should also be a way to relink recovery to the one key button.

But the factory install is an inferior install to begin with so you'd be better off doing the reinstall in the tutorial under signature picture below.

I am having issues with onekey recovery because I am trying to factory reset my laptop. I have used it before without issues, but I believe it may have happened after I tried out Windows 10 but then reverted back to Windows 7. If I try to use OneKey recovery through the program, when I select the option to reformat, it just restarts my computer normally. If I try to use the onekey recovery key on the keyboard, it just turns on my computer normally. Any solutions to this issue?

Hi, Recently I was making a Full back up (as always) of the Flex 2-15 HD with Macrium and suddenly, when Macrium was backing up the C: partition, it stopped and sent an error 1117 which is NOT good, so after reading on the web , I performed a repair CheckDisk process, but upon finishing, on the log  appeared a couple of UN-repairable sectors, so to make a long story short, I ordered a new  SSD to replace my internal SSHD and my question is IF it is possible to restore all the partitions (with exception of the C one which is the one that is damaged) to the NEW drive and  after installing it, use "OneKey recovery" to restore windows 8.1? Thanks a lot in advance for any help on this issue

Answer:Lenovo Flex 2-15, Onekey recovery question?

hi Diazruanova1,

Welcome to the Forums.

As per this article, restoring, resize, and reordering of  individual partitions via Macrium Reflect is possible but the OneKey Recovery depends on the entire partition structure of the drive for it to work (i.e., If you originally have 5 partitions and you only restored 4, OneKey Recovery will not be able to run as the drive letters and/or sector alignment will be different).

If you have a good working Macrium image backup of all the partitions, I recommend you restore them all first on the SSD then run OneKey Recovery.

Note:
You can only use OneKey Recovery to restore to a drive with same capacitity or higher. If you use a smaller drive (e.g., 256GB SSD), you will need to either create a recovery drive and edit the create partition primary size entry as discussed in this thread and use it to restore on the SSD.

Answer:(lenovo b520) deleted onekey recovery

OneKey Recovery is an easy-to-use application. You can use it to restore your computer to the system default or to a previously backed up state.
Detailed Operation Procedure1. Repeatedly press and release the F2 key after turning on the computer until the Lenovo Rescue System opens, then select OneKey Recovery.
Note: System Recovery will overwrite all of the data on the C: drive. To prevent loss of data, be sure to back up relevant data before performing system recovery.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to select the backup task you want to restore from and the disk where you want to install the operating system, then press Next to start the restore.
3. Please wait during the process of system recovery. Do not interrupt the operation during the recovery process.
4. After the system is recovered successfully, the software will prompt you to restart the computer. Restart the computer and start the operating system

Hello. I apologize if this question has been asked before, but I read everything I could find on partitions and onekey recovery but I still do not understand the concept. I have a few questions for you.I purchased Lenovo Yoga 720 15inch version from best buy. The hard drive size is 256gb SSD. However, when I finished setting up the laptop, I noticed that my Local Drive (C) has only 192 space left. Right next to the Drive C, there is Drive D, which has 25gb space allocated by uses 1.7gb for Driver and YMC software only. There is nothing else in the drive, only drivers. As of now, after I installed all the programs necessary for me work, I have just 158gb space left in my Drive C. I would like to increase that space. I spoke to Lenovo on the phone and the guy told me that there is hidden partition in the drive for Lenovo Onekey recovery, which I do not think I need because I have done Windows reset before and successfully set up the clean format. Here are my questions for you. 1. Can I delete Drive D partition and merge it with Drive C without messing up my operating system? I have already backed up drivers from Drive D onto my external hard drive, and I would like to delete Drive D and merge it with Drive C. Please let me know if this is possible. 2. I looked for disk partition in the disk management, and it shows following:260mb Healthy (EFI System); 212.3gb (Windows C Healthy Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition); Lenovo (D Healthy Primary Parti... Hello everyone I have a ideapad s400 and I'm trying to preform a system recovery using onekey recovery but it's not working. when i open onekey and press on System Recovery i get the following pop-up message: "the program cannot find the service partition. this function is currently unavailable." However, when i press on System Backup i get the following pop-up message: "Current system can not support back up." Help, i need to preform a system recovery.

Answer:Lenovo S400 Onekey recovery problem

You need to know what system you have install? apparently, It is not rescue partition in your computer. Therefore, You can't use onekey recovery to restore your system. for you second question, you can't back up sysem use Lenovo onekey, I guess your windows system version is Windows 8. According to online reply from official technical support, The Windows 8 preinstalled in Lenovo can't support onekey recovery. There are two solutions: 1?To install system again. 2?change to other backup software, after all, your system wasn't backed up. Therefore, you can totally use other software or lenovo onekey recovery alternative. I have been using AOMEI OneKey Recovery, and I think it is powerful. It can support Windows 6/8.1/10.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad G510 onekey recovery damaged

Hi avraham123 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

This is the main guideline  (click highlighted link for full article) regarding corrupted partition.

Note:
If you accidentally uninstall OneKey Recovery, you may go to D drive. Find the folder named as Drivers. Open it to find out OneKey_Recovery folder --> find setup.exe. Click on it and follow the on-screen instructions. OneKey Recovery will be reinstalled.
If you are unable to reinstall OneKey Recovery, you are recommended to contact local service provider or read How can I get a system recovery CD, DVD or USB from Lenovo for more information to get recovery media

As discussed here are suggested steps that you can also try if repair failed .
1) Make sure that recovery partition is there or not. As I said, go to Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Disk Management and check.
2) Second, When the laptop is shutdown, try pressing the NOVO button and see if the laptop starts in the recovery mode.
3) You can try to restore the laptop from you... Read more

Hello, I'm running windows 8.1 now and I want to reinstall Windows 8.1 Single Language (a clean install)The problem is that my computer came loaded with Windows 8. That's why, I have downloaded Windows 8.1 (the one without bing) and created an installation dvd.I used this tutorial and I made my DVD.Here are my questions:1) While installing, do will I get any problems with the product key ? (In fact I have learned my key, I know it, it's in Bios)2) Will all the lenovo programs gone ?  OneKey Recovery, Lenovo PowerDVD and the other ones ?3) After installing windows 8.1 can I reuse OneKey Recovery initial backup (the one with windows 8) ? Thanks in advance.

Answer:About Lenovo OneKey Recovery (while performing a clean install)

You should also make a backup of your Lenovo Recovery partition on a USB or a DVD.
Go to your One Key recovery program and create a disk. (I think that is the option, I dont have my laptop right now)

You may need to ENABLE boot from USB in the BIOS (depends on your laptop model).
Once that is done, test the recovery disk/USB by inserting it and restarting the laptop.

If your laptop boots into recovery mode (called BIOS boot screen), your drive is working fine.

Now, shutdown and you can proceed with a freah windows installation on your C:
(You may need to switch off SecureBoot in BIOS to proceed with installation, if you get an error)

I have a problem with the OneKey Recovery button on my LenovoY480. Long story short, I installed Windows 10 because it was free, Unfortunately, i found out the hard way that it had lots of bugs and incompatibility to most of my apps. So after a few issue of being able to revert back to Windows 7, I was able to dowgrade. I then decided to reformat my laptop just for the heck of it. To my surprise, everytime I press the OneKey recovery button (the one that has a curved arrow on it), it simply turns on the computer as if you pressed the power button. It does not boot into the OneKey recovery window. Any idea as to the cause of this? Or any way to fix it? I'm no tech savvy, but if anyone has an idea, I would really appreciate it if you could help me ***Update: I tried to access Onekey recovery system restore via the icon/program in my desktop. Same result, PC seems to just restart or boot up normally. -Michael

I recently updated my windows 7 to windows 8. But I hated it so I downgraded back to windows 7. When I get on my computer, I install onekey recovery through a USB. It opens correctly and the computer restarts, but than it just goes back to the log on screen. It doesn't even go into system recovery mode. I think the problem is either that the windows 8 drivers are still on it or I need to install the drivers from here, the lenovo website. If you want to know what it looks like, it looks like windows basic and I can't change it to the regular windows 7, its just stuck on basic. Help?

Answer:Onekey Recovery issue on lenovo ideapad z575

hi Gregrs,

Once you upgraded your Windows 7 system to Windows 8, some lenovo pre-installed softwares will not be able to work, including the One Key Recovery - see this Windows 8 Upgrade Guide fore more info. If you have created a Windows 7 recovery disc using this guide, it'll be best if you use that disc to restore Windows 7 OS + the drivers that came with the PC.

Hope this helps

If you bought a Lenovo Y-series laptop fitted with Windows 7 like me (Y570) your ability to recover from a Windows breakdown is limited to your OneKey Recovery button or the OneKey Recovery program, which I hope will play in Windows Safe Mode. No recovery disk or re-installation Windows disk provided when you bought the machine. When you upgrade to Windows 8, the OneKey Recovery System does not work anymore. So its not advisable to upgrade but to stick with Win 7 forever. This is not fair. Is Lenovo planning to release a Win 8 OneKey Recovery program which will make the OneKey Recovery button (and the program as such) work with Win 7 Y-series machines upgraded to Win 8? I hope more users will see that a touted feature of their Y-series computers needs the urgent attention of Lenovo. We are being left behind if they ignore this issue.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad G510 onekey recovery damaged

Hi avraham123 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

This is the main guideline  (click highlighted link for full article) regarding corrupted partition.

Read more

i have a lenovo 3000 G410G. Its absolutely imperative for me to do a system recovery to factory settings as my C: drive has apparently become infested with malwares, trojans and what not. The machine itself has become extremely slow and iv'e tried all the best anti malware and AV out there but to no avail. In addition to it it seems my 10 year old nephew has deleted some system files by mistake as well. So anyway....about this onekey recovery.......does this thing actually work? iv'e heard so many bad reviews about it. When i press the novo key the machine just boots and nothing happens. Is there an update patch that i can download? Is there an alternate way to enter the main interface and do a system recovery? I use Win xp. Any help would be really appreciated.

Answer:lenovo 3000 G410G onekey recovery not working

Be sure you push the NOVO button with the computer shut down.  Stay away from the start button.  My daughter has used it a few times on her 3000 Y410, and it worked like a champ.  If that does not work, hope for a better solution or call Lenovo.  I have heard, but not sure it is true, that you will have to send the computer back to Lenovo for reinstall of operating system and all other default items. Pictureframer

I'm currently trying to figure out which type of recovery method (re-install, system recovery, or factory reset) I want to do to my computer. It's an OEM from HP with Windows 7 Home Premium on it. I've been reading around about the different types of recoveries and honestly, the computer jargon has my brain in a knot.

So I have a couple of quick questions regarding how the whole recovery process works.

1) What exactly is a recovery partition? Do all operating systems have this function?
2) Which recovery methods "destroy" the recovery partition, and what happens when it is destroyed?
3) Which recovery methods require that I back up my drivers to an external source?
4) To remove a nasty virus, i.e. Google redirect virus, which method would you recommend?
5) What is the difference between factory reset and system recovery?
6) What is the best method to re-install Windows without a disc that is straight-forward (so someone without a good computer background can understand and perform without any problems)?

I hope someone can answer some/all of these questions. Thanks!!!

Answer:Quick Questions About Factory Reset, Recovery Partitions, etc.

You can either run Factory Recovery: Dell Restoring Your Computer?s Software to the Factory Settings

Or you can do a superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Read the special note to Dell owners.

Either is enough to overwrite infection.

I have a Lenovo g500s touch laptop with Windows 8 that is not able to boot. The error message occurs very early in the startup process says ?Your PC needs to be repaired. The application or OS couldn?t be loaded because a required file is missing or contain errors.  File: \windows\system32\winload.efi. Error code 0xc000000f. You need to use recovery tools on your installation media. ?When trying to use OneKey recovery from the initial image, the recovery seems to start with the progress eye bouncing back & forth for about the 30 seconds.  Then the status = Intializing, the current file is blank, speed = 0 Bytes/Minute, Time elapsed continues to increase, Time remaining is blank and the status bar is blank with 0%.  I have let this run for many hours and it does not change. Booting via a USB recovery drive seems to indicate the hard drive is correctly working.  From a command window bootrec/fixmbr = successful; bootrec/fixboot = successful;  bootrec/scanOS says 0 windows installations found; bootrec/rebuildbcd also says 0 windows installations found.Any suggestions to fix this problem?

I was shocked to see if I let it run (>12 hours) the oneKey recovery advanced past the initializing step.  It then proceeded to the recovering step and semed to restore all the files.  The whole process took about 27 hours.  Now when I boot it comes up to the Lenovo screen but does not advance any further. Dave W

I am having almost the same problem. When trying to create a new set of Factory Install disks, I get a "An internal program error has occurred. Failed error code 0xEB1B068A".The status bar shows 99% on the second DVD when it bombs out, but only about 80% of the second DVD has been created. I have tried it twice. This is a two week old G560 from Office Depot.

Hi ! I just got a Lenovo IdeaPad P580. I did a first backup with OneKey Recorery successfully. Then, some days later, I wanted to do it again, but I added a lot of files, so it didn't work because the backup wouldn't have enough space. I didn't realized that the D: disk only purpose was to content the factory settings (or near them), but nothing more. I put the drivers and the applications (but not the backup) from the D: disk on a DVD, and I wiped out everything. I wanted to free some space...Now that I realized the D: drisk was only there to store factory settings, I'd like to get the original backup back to have at least a D: partitition useful for something in case of emergencies... Otherwise, it's useless and I could merge it with C:, and do backups with an exeternal disk, but I'd like to avoid doing that...

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad P580 and deleted OneKey Recovery files

Ok i'm not sure i understand everything you wrote for example:''I did a first backup with OneKey Recorery successfully'' What exactly did you do and how  did you do that? And:  ''and I wiped out everything. I wanted to free some space.''' Did you wipe just the D: or ...? To get your system back to factory settings (?nitial state, just as it was the day you bought it) please double cklick the One Key Recovery(OKR) ?con on the desktop click on 'System Recovery' A notice will pop up asking you 'Do you want to reboot your computer into the System Recovery Environment' Click Yes and then just follow instructions. When it's done evrything that should be there, will be(hopefully anyway).. Do let us know what happens.

Hello, I needed to clean up laptop. I wanted to reinstall OS, but Windows 7 is just OEM version with no CD. So I used Onekey recovery and loaded my 3 years old backup, which I made when I turned on laptop for the first time. And now my Lenovo (D partition says there is no free memory. It shows 0/ 24,4 GB. But there is only 11 GB used. Really dont know what is wrong here and what should I do.

I bought my wife an ideapad maybe a year or so ago (the exact model isn't coming to me at the moment) and she recently had it die while she was using it due to low battery. When it started up, it was having issues starting up and went stright to onekey recovery. No problem, we've used this feature before... but after the recovery, it gives me the option to restart and it loads automatically to the onekey recovery again. It has done this time and time again. I am able to boot in to bios by pressing Fn+F2 when at the lenovo splash screen but nothing in there seems to give me any help or remedy the situation. The Lenovo splash screen seems to hang for a very long time and also displays "Checking Media" in the upper left corner, reminiscent of a DOS screen. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated... Also, I have ensured that the onekey button is not stuck. It seems to click in and out of place pretty obviously. I'm at a loss!

Hey,I am new to this site so be gentle! haha.

Bit confused at what to do here?

I want to install clean copy of 7 but unsure what to do here?

Picture attached.

Any help appreciated.

Regards.

Answer:Windows 7 installation confusion. Partitions etc..

If you want to do a clean install, you would need to delete all partitions.

That will leave you with "unallocated space".

Then tell Windows to install to that unallocated space.

You might have to back up a screen or two from where you are in your picture. Look for a choice that says something like "drive options, advanced" toward the bottom of the screen.

Look here:

Clean Install Windows 7

2)   *: ESP             FAT32                    System
3)   *: Others

4)   *: Push Button Reset     NFIS
None
in the hard drive with drive name after upgrade to windows 10?
I deleted 3) *: Others and merged it with C: because it had no file.
Could anyone tell me what should I do with the no name partitions (all have space used) and where is my recovery drive?
And how to re-create a Recovery partition with enough space?

Answer:Lenovo G580 Resized drive now Onekey recovery wont work

hi zshakaz,

If you have unhide the hidden partition and or created a new volume, the hidden partition's attribute might have gotten changed automatically. A similar problem was discussed here and a relevant solution was posted here.

The solution was to:

1. Open the command prompt (click Start and type cmd)

2. On the Command Prompt, type diskpart and press Enter3. type list disk and press Enter4. note which one of listed disks is user?s HDD, type sel disk X (where X is number of user?s HDD) and press Enter5. type list part and press Enter6. note which partition is WinPE one and type sel part X (where X is number of WinPE partition (usually it is the last one and has the biggest number) and press Enter.  (i.e.  Partition 3, with 14GB, yours could be different)7. type set id = 12 and press Enter8. type exit and press Enter

Hope this helps

I am trying to restore my Lenovo G770 to its original state (factory settings). I tried to use the System Recovery option from the OneKey Recovery menu (which is the same as reaching it whilst booting the computer), but what that does is it restarts the computer a few times and keeps it exactly how it was before trying to do so. I also tried making the CDs by choosing Create Recovery Disc from the OneKey Recovery menu but I am given a message which says: This program cannot find the initial backup image. This function is currently unavailable. After looking at different threads, I realized it was because I resized the C: partition of the hard disk. Initially, when I first bought my laptop, the hard drive had 4 partitions by default which are of the following (My hard drive size came as 750GB): 1. The System Reserved 100MB partition (which is hidden and obviously in every computer by default). 2. The C: Drive partition (I don't know how big it was)3. The D: Drive partition (Again, I don't know how big this was)4. Finally, the OEM Reserved (Lenovo) 14.5GB partition (which is where all the recovery files are kept)  Now, I didn't mess with the OEM Reserved partition at all, but what I did was I deleted the D: drive and made the C: Drive bigger, so that I can use my space more efficiently. Again, the problem is probably caused because of resizing the C: partition.  My question is: How can I make it so that ... Read more

Answer:Lenovo G770: OneKey Recovery doesn't work because of resizing the C: partition?

Hi za1407 and welcome to the community,

When you deleted D: you deleted the drivers and applications that OneKey needs to restore to factory specs.  There were also hidden files on there it also needed.

At this point, just resizing the partitions isn't going to make OneKey work.

The only way to get it back to factory is to get yourself a set of restore discs.  This will resize the partitions and put everything back the way it was.

Here's a thread where we were experimenting with the partitions.

System: Lenovo Yoga 700-14ISK 80QDThe nearly 4GB free space from the Lenovo partition were very tempting, so after researching if it's safe and such, I decided to give it a go using a 3rd party free software that saved me for many times in the past (MiniTool Partition Wizard). Interesting that most tutorials were about creating a recovery drive and removing the partition, but I decided for the moment to just get the free space until more is needed and I didn't found out that resizing with 3rd party software will mess up with your WinRe settings only after it was done. Use a backup to external drive. There is little advantage backing up to a in drive partition if the drive fail all is lost.Various much better solutions exist. Its well know that resizing/adding partitions mess up Lenovo's partitions that are built. They don't provide a utility as best I know to correct this afterwards.

Please respond only if you can answer the question with clarity. I have never touched the partitions or made changes. On the laptop, I have 4 partitions;Partition one called SYSTEM_DRV (200MB),Partition two called Windows (890 GB),Partition three for Drivers (~25GB)Partition four (~20GB).   Regards Mod comment: Over sized picture converted to link. Please see About-Posting-Pictures-In-The-ForumsJust want some clarification:1. When pressing the OneKey Button is the unit already running Windows or not? When specifying back-up location, whether default or to an external device, it says I've not enough space, need 94GB. Can that true? I have a new system, with no graphics, etc., pgms, so the size seems very large.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga2 OneKey Recovery system partition backup space requirements

You will need to defragment the source partition before imaging to keep the size down. The default partition has not got much space, I don't know why it is a default location. Use an external HDD.

Computer : Lenovo IdeaPad P580 with Windows 7

Hi ! My internal HDD died, but I managed to backup everything with both the Windows 7 utility (both files and system image), and OneKey Recovery. The HDD was changed and set back to factory default. I can easily restore the files, but the system image from Windows 7 utility is not detected. I want to try to restore my computer with OneKey Recovery.

1. When I press the OKR button in Windows, the OneKey Recovery program is displayed, as it should.
2. I ask for a recovery, it says the system will boot in recovery mode.
3. I get the BIOS splash screen, then Windows 7 splash screen, and then Windows simply boots normally.
4. The OKR button won't activate the recovery mode ; it simply acts like the power button.

My problem is much similar to the one explained in the topic "One-Key Recovery will not boot into recovery system (y450)", however, the Lenovo's hidden partition is already hidden (its type is already set to 12). This video also provides the very same solution, but it doesn't seem to apply to my case.

Let me explain :

I have 4 partitions :
1. One hidden partition of 200 MB*. I've read it might be the WinRE environnement, I should not touch it. Originally, it had no name, but I gave it the name "Environnement WinRE". Its partition type ID is 07 (NTFS Windows).
2. My main partition C:, type 07. Size : 653,44 GB
3. Lenovo's D: partition, type 07. Size : 25,47 GB
4. Lenovo's hidden diagnost... Read more

Answer:Can't boot OneKey's recovery mode, OneKey button does not work

good question.  I can't offer any suggestions here but would also like to know if those other partitions are really needed if you have a complete cloned hdd with those other partitions as a backup.  I don't like the idea there is at least 40GB of unnecessary partitions and data reserved that I cannot use.

Help!I have Y450 with Windows 7. I tried downloading and installing the drivers from the support page, but when I tried accessing the desktop navigator, it doesn't work and caused bluescreen a few times. Onekey recovery doesn't work and neither does the onekey theater nor the dolby shortcut. What should I do? Am I missing some drivers?

Answer:Y450/desktop navigator/ onekey recovery/ onekey theater

have you downloaded the right driver? see to it that you have chosen the right driver including the bits...(32 or 64 bits). in my experience, the most common cause of blue screen is due to wrong device driver...try this driver for your desktop navigator: Windows7 64 bits (Desktop navigator), Windows7 32 bits (Desktop nivigator) i also have y450 C2D P8700 running 64bits windows 7 ultimate, it runs smoothly...

Hi, I didnt know what i did, but when i installed this thing. and rebooted my whole windows 8 was gone. When my system booted up, the was this message saying "Checking Media" Then it would give me 2 choices (Ipv4................. and ipv6..............................) I tried both of them but none of them worked. Then i shutted the computer down and launched one key recovery. I did not do a backup, because i assumed that this computer wouldnt get a virus, (i dont know what it was), so my only choice was Lenovo's OneKey Recovery, "Initial Backup". I just wanted to know what is "Initial Backup" Is it something that temporary gives you windows 8? or does your whole windows 8 come back?

Answer:Windows 8 Corrupted. OneKey Recovery- Initial Recovery (Y500)

Dear Hero1237394

Welcome to Lenovo forums

kindly be informed that the onekey recovery is a preloaded software that enables you to take the machine back to the factory settingso once you do the recovery the machien will be as good as new but their is some conditions1-all datat on the c partion will be lost2-the native operating system must be still on the machine3-no HDD formate or resizing was done.

check the recovery and get back to me for more info

Thanks
