Screen orientation rotating randomly, ability to use touchpad/keyboard disappearing randomly.

Question: Screen orientation rotating randomly, ability to use touchpad/keyboard disappearing randomly.

On occasion, for no apparent reason, my screen will rotate to any orientation. I have to put it into, and out of, sleep mode in order to get the orientation back to where needed. Also, on occasion, for no apparent reason, I lose the ability to use my touchpad and keyboard, and need to use the touchscreen in order to do anything. I also need to put it into, and out of, sleep mode in order to regain use of the touchpad and keyboard. I've updated all software and drivers out of frustration, but nothing has helped. Help!!

Preferred Solution: Screen orientation rotating randomly, ability to use touchpad/keyboard disappearing randomly.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For the past couple of weeks, the touchpad and keyboard on my laptop have either been shutting down randomly at different times or dont work at all when I start up. Sometimes both work, sometimes only my keyboard works, and then sometimes only my keyboard will work amd than eventually it will shut down too.I just want to know what could be causing this and if I can fix it on my own. I never had a problem like this before.

Ever since I've upgraded my dad's laptop to Windows 10, the keyboard and touchpad stop working randomly, and would work only after I restart the computer. (logging off, switch user, standby mode doesn't resolve it.)
There is no pattern to it. Sometimes it would be ok for a few days, sometimes it would happen again after a few hours. I mostly do internet browsing on the laptop.

When the problem occurred:
- The keyboard AND the touchpad would both stop working at the same time.
- USB mouse still works. (I do not have an external keyboard to test)
- The lights on the keys themselves (eg caps lock, wifi) would still remain on if they're activated but cannot be toggled on/off as usual.
- The device manager still showed no problems with the mouse or keyboard.

Things I've tried:
- sfc /scannow
- disabled sticky keys
- used the generic drivers for keyboard and touchpad
- reinstalled the drivers for keyboard and touchpad
- updated to the latest synaptics driver
- made a new synaptics trackpad profile
- disabled touchpad when using the USB mouse

Laptop stats:
HP Pavillion dm1-4002AU
Windows 10 Home 64bit (upgraded from Win7 and then reset to a fresh state)
AMD Radeon HD 6230 Graphics
6GB RAM
Synaptics Driver Version: 19.0.12.95 06Jul15
Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad
Lenovo ThinkPad PS/2 keyboard

This is very exasperating. I would appreciate some help in stopping this problem permanently, thanks.

Sometimes when I start up my computer, more often than not, when it brings me to my logon screen, I can't use the touchpad or the keyboard at all.  I have to physically touch the screen to let me put my pin in.  Still, neither work, so I end up shutting down and restarting, sometimes more than once, before the touchpad and keyboard start to work again.  I've had this problem for a couple of years now, have been in touch with support, and have also uninstalled and reinstalled my keyboard.  My warranty just expired of course.  I'm ready to throw this computer out of a window.

This has happened a lot since my upgrade to Windows 10, and it's really starting to get on my nerves. Seemingly randomly, my keyboard will stop responding to what I type, and my touchpad completely stops as well (no, I did not accidentally click to disable it). These problems will never resolve themselves on their own, but as soon as I reset the computer everything works again - to me, that sounded like a driver crash, but nope! I checked the driver menu and it told me everything was running just fine. What's even more strange is that I have the backlight keyboard enabled so that when I type, it lights up. And strangely, the keys still light up when I press them, so I know it's registering my typing SOME how.

You would also think that this would be a software problem since it fixes immediately upon reset, but I've noticed that this issue seems to crop up a lot right after I have moved my computer... I'm lost and I've scoured the internet for clues, but no one else seems to have this problem. Please help!

In order to possibly do testing on what is causing this (via suggestions hopefully, I've tried everything I can think of) I am purposely not resetting my computer (thankfully this is a touch screen, but this on-screen keyboard typing is obnoxious). Currently, both keyboard and touchpad don't work, but a usb mouse I use does (the computer is also set so that using the usb mouse does not disable the touchpad).

Hi I had that same trouble when on windows 8.1
Found out my BIOS was out of date
When upgraded to 10 my manufacturer updated the BIOS
Which in turn updated the latest drivers
Also have you run SFC /Scannow

Hello Lenovo Community, A few weeks ago, my touchpad on my e430 began left-clicking and right-clicking randomly. That is, it will click rapidly and repeatedly on whatever my cursor is hovering over, even if my fingers are not anywhere near the laptop. This is a huge nuisance, as it's rendered the laptop almost inoperable thanks to this clicking causing windows to open and close, internet ads to be clicked on, and the right click options bar popping up several times a second. In addition, I've noticed that my keyboard has begun to malfunction as well, seemingly in tandem with the touchpad problem. Specifically, many keys don't work--or work only part of the time.  I've ran malware scans and virus scans and found nothing. I wonder if it might be related to moisture in the keyboard/touchpad area (the laptop became slightly wet due to a brief rain shower shortly before this problem began), but I am not sure. Can anyone provide insight on this problem and how I might fix it? I would greatly appreciate it. - LS

Answer:E430: Touchpad Clicking Randomly and Keyboard Malfunctioning

Hey Lenovo guys: please respond ro this question. It's a serious issue, and we need help. I replaced the HD with an SSD, tried a new memory card, and tried to adjust the settings on the trackpad. For some reason, I try to disable tapping and it keeps resetting the setting on its own. I think it might be a Lenovo software issue. Please advise.

While in laptop mode, and typing on the built-in physical keyboard or a keyboard attached via USB, the on-screen keyboard will randomly pop up, taking away focus (particularly noticeable when using extended desktop on an external display) and eating up half of the screen real estate.  As soon as I press the next key on the physical board, the on-screen keyboard minimizes itself.  Sometimes it will pop up when I'm not even touching the laptop! Anyone else experience this and/or know how to stop it?  It's the only thing about this machine that drives me absolutely nuts.  It seems to be random.  I can't pin it down and haven't found any similar reports via Google search. Thanks in advance.

Hello. First of all, thank you for reading my post. I recently discovered a Trojan on my computer and instead of going through the tedias process of getting rid of it, I decided to wipe my hard drive and load a 64 bit version of windows 7 ( an upgrade from the previous 32 bit version I had with the virus). The installation went smoothly and I began to download most of my drivers with no issues. I even downloaded World of Warcraft with no issues. I turned my computer off and got some sleep. I returned only to see that my computer would keep restarting during the start up process.

So, knowin a little about computers, I shut everything down. Checked and cleaned the inside of my PC. Re-set the memory and reset the battery to reload BIOS. I put everything back together, and it started up no problem. Success!!! NO! As I began surfing the internet, IE will randomly shut down and just keep doing it. As I scrambled for a solution to this very annoying problem, my computer would shut down, sending me to a blue screen which states a bunch of stuff that I don't understand. Being the hands on guy I am, I went back to search for a solution with the new information. I figured that maybe BIOS wasn't updated or that I didn't have all the needed drivers downloaded yet.

So I went to download some more updates and every time I go to download something I get a setup error or something that keeps the download from finishing! So, I threw my hands up and came here, hoping that som... Read more

Good day Windows wizards,

our company has been struggling with the issue written in "thread title" for several months. It all began after the update of Kaspersky antivirus from version 8 to version 10. The symptoms are the following: PC is able to access internet or services located in another subnets. It suddenly stopps to communicate and looses ability to contact other computers in different subnets. The PCs located in same subnet are pingable and visible from this problematic non-communicating PC, though. There is temporary solution to that issue - if we delete ARP table with arp -d *, the PC begins to communicate again (for limited period of time, the issue with communication loss is recurring).

What we already tried to do and didn't help: Uninstall KasperskyReinstall Kaspersky
Update Kaspersky as much ass possible
netsh int ip reset
Update PC as much as possible
Update network drivers
Use different network card
We also proved there isn't any problem with network connectivity. We used Port mirroring and sniffed all the traffic comming from and to PC. We were pinging to different subnets and when the communication stopped (ping said destination is not reachable), we saw that ICMP requests are leaving the NIC of the PC and ICMP replies are coming back to PC. Apparently, the PC isn't able to process the reply back and it says destination unreachable instead. The communication may restore after some time or we can restore it immediately with arp -d *. One PC was... Read more

Answer:PC randomly loosess the ability to communicate with different subnets

Try command: "route print" when this happens next, and see if default route is correct .
Then try (run as admin): "netsh interface ip delete destinationcache" and see if it helps

You may perhaps use Download Complete Internet Repair - MajorGeeks with options:
- reset Internet Protocol
- repair Winsock (read the warning, hover mouse over icon - left side)
- and any other you may see fit.

Hi
I've got a Lenovo thinkpad edge e545 and I've noticed this strange problem it has. Something is happening that is affecting both the sound and my ability to play videos.
With the videos, no matter what site I'm on, they will just not play although if you just to any point it will show you a still for that time in the video. The sound also stops working. If I try to play something from Windows Media Player I get an error message. If I try to play the test tone for the speakers, I just get the message "failed to play test tone". So far restarting the computer usually gets it back to normal but I am looking for a permanent solution especially since there is never any warning of when this is going to happen.

So far I've tried to update the driver for the graphics card, but that hasn't seemed to help at all. Please let me know what I should do.

Answer:Computer keeps randomly losing sound and ability to play videos.

Many sites use the Adobe Flash player for videos. The Flash player has been buggy so go to the Adobe flash site and install/reinstall the latest version.

The sound problem appears to be a result of whatever is causing the other problems. This is really a problem for another forum section. Get whatever is causing the video problems resolved and the sound will most likely be resolved too.

The problem started yesterday, after I (foolishly, I know) visited this website and attempted to install the xpadder program I downloaded from there.

Something messed up during the program's installation and then almost immediately my network icon changed to having no bars and a red cross through it. This seems to have been the pattern since then. I restart and the internet works fine for anywhere between 10 minutes, to a few hours (seems completely random) but then Windows insists there are no wireless networks around me, despite there being a dozen.

I will be using my computer normally, and then my browser will stop being able to load pages properly. On Chrome the page will crash, on Firefox the pages won't load how they are supposed to. Then I try to do other things and if I try to open a program it says stuff like "that image archive is corrupted." When I try to open the task manager it will go "cannot open tskman(or w/e).exe". After that, all the images for icons and the start menu will stop loading properly and since I have no other choice I'll end up having to restart the computer.

Does anyone know what could be wrong?

If it helps I use an Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165. I would link to the amazon product description page, but I don't have the posts.

I was playing a game (Overwatch, if it matters) and my keyboard stopped working, but the mouse, screen, and sound all continued to work perfectly. After about 10 seconds the screen froze, but the sound and mouse continued to work. Another few seconds the
mouse stopped working, but the sound still worked. The power button did not work, and when I closed my laptop the sounds kept playing. When I unplugged the mouse and plugged it back on the mouse no longer lit up. I waited a bit for laptop to fix itself, to
no avail. I had to open the laptop up and unplug a cable connecting the batter to something to turn off the laptop, plugged it back in, and the laptop worked fine. The same issue happened where the keyboard stopped working and the screen froze, except this
time the sound stopped and the power button still worked. Why did this happen, and how can I stop this from happening again?

Little bit weird, but...I recently re-installed win98 & winXP so I could dual-boot, and have come up with an annoying problem. In XP, in the bottom right corner the icons that are running on start up will show some and not show some. Sometimes it's not the same programs. They are running, because I can see them in task manager, but when I go to the options in each and re-enable the icon to show, the next time it won't be there. These are ones like the little speaker for sound properties, my popup killer, etc. I am running XP in classic mode, so I don't have to worry about inactive icons. Got any ideas???

Hello everyoneI have been having a problem with my HDD space disappearing recently and was hoping someone here might have an idea what is going on. I will post the details below and below that I will post my specifications and computer information. So, a while ago I noticed I was low on HDD space (around 90 GB) so I deleted old games and programs I no longer use and after some time ended up with 300 GB of space, which I was happy with. A few days after this whilst I was playing a game I got a windows error message saying something similar to "You only have 11 MB of disk space left, clear some space to avoid problems" which left me shocked as I know I had 300 GB, and I had not installed anything recently. After receiving that message I quickly deleted more games I don't play and cleared 150 GB of space again. In the past 2 days Ive had my Norton AV and my StarCraft 2 disappear and its like they uninstalled them selfs? Ive done several virus scans and I don't think its a virus unless its a FUD RAT which I doubt lol I have found 2 things in common with the 2 programs they both were uninstalled a day or two after install... Any ideas?

Answer:Programs disappearing randomly?

Ok I just ran system restore and set it back 2 days ago and still no Sc2... The Sc2 file is there with a few things in it but it was like it was never installed.

A few weeks ago randomly my windows explorer jumplist disappeared from one minute to the next.

After finally getting most of the locations I had in there back, it just now did the same. In one minute I got 5 folders pinned to it and a number in the jumplist history, in the next everything is gone except 1 pinned location.

I recently ran virus and malware scans, so it's something else. Is there anyway to prevent this? Can I at least make a backup of the jumplist file, so if it happens again I can just restore the file?

I'm using windows 7 home premium.

Three pc's all with the same issue. All are Dells, two are Optiplex 780's. On a domain with at least 60 other computers and well over 100 users, local and remote. All three PC's are local, running win7 pro. The two optiplex's started this on Monday, the third started doing it about an hour ago.

On boot, all drives are listed in my computer and Explorer. After a few minutes, all drives, local and mapped, disappear from my computer and explorer. After a few minutes or a reboot, the drives will reappear. Any drive is able to be opened by typing its drive letter in the address bar, whether it can be seen or not.. At the same time the drives have gone missing, the control panel will also not populate. This is very random. It can be two minutes from populated to unpopulated, or it can be 20 minutes. Lets ad into this mix, thumbnails on .jpg, .pdf and other files are not showing up, where until this problem started, they were.

I am pretty confident that the drives are not going to sleep as this happens whether the computer is in use or not. I am also pretty confident that its not a sata driver, as the mapped drives disappear also.

One more thing to add: if the computers are unplugged from the network, the problem seems to go away. Possibly an issue with the domain policy?

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks for your time.

Hi,

I have the exact same problem since about 2 days ago, and I don't know why. Did you find out what the problem was? I did turn off a few services, but they all seem completely unrelated to drives.

Hi. I've read the posts on this topic, and mine shares elements but differs. I have had a new machine built for me with an ASUS mother board and running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. My previous one had Windows XP Professional and the adjustment has not been easy.

Using "My Computer/Computer Management/Storage/Disk Management"; the following always shows up:
Disk 0 Internal Main Drive C: 2TB with Windows 7 Professional
Disk 1 internal SATA slave drive E: 150GB (ex Dell machine HDD, partition removed and reformatted)
Disk 2 internal SATA slave drive F: 185GB (ex Sony machine HDD, partition removed and reformatted)
Disk 3 external USB back-up drive G: 2TB Western Digital My Book 1130

I have always been in the habit of shutting down my machine when it is not in use. This is primarily because I live in the country, and power bumps are quite common. I believe this is what killed my last machine.

THE PROBLEM:
Whenever I start the machine, Disks 1,2,3 always show up in Computer Management , but not always in Windows Explorer. I am usually missing at list one, and often two of the drives. It seems to change randomly. I re-start, and get a different configuration. About one in ten start-ups, all drives appear, and function normally.

I will try switching SATA drive cables. One poster suggested that the main drive needs to be either disk 1 or disk 2, and slave drives should be disk 3 & disk 4.

Anyone have any other thoughts?

Well, the journey is finally over. It was the WD backup drive that was the problem. It worked fine in the XP environment, but bogged everything down in the Windows 7 environment. I tried many hotfixes and other suggestions to no avail. When I finally opened the WD external drive using another XP machine, removed the Password Protection, and completely reformatted the drive, removing all WD software, the Windows 7 machine began behaving as it should.

Hey, i've got an 80 gig IDE HDD which i use as my main windows drive and it works great. No problems with it. I've also got a 120 gig SATA drive which I use as a backup drive. The SATA drive shows up in the Safely Remove Hardware window which i've done a little research on and realised that that is perfectly normal.

The problem i'm having is that any random amount of time after i've restarted my computer, the SATA drive will just disappear and I get that little ding sound letting me know that something has been "safely removed" i guess. (That same sound you get when you unplug your ipod) It's doing this completely on it's own though and at completely random times. Sometimes it will be 5 minutes after I restart, sometimes it will be 2 days after I restart. I'm pretty sure it's not a cable problem because as soon as I restart my computer the drive shows up as normal again. Everything functions flawlessly until the hard drive "removes" itself.

I found a value I could add to my registry that would make my hard drive unremovable and it did remove the "safely remove hard drive" icon in my system tray but the hard drive still disappeared after a few hours of use. I've been unable to find any specific pattern when it removes itself. Any tips would be appreciated. I've got a sneaking suspicion that the drive may be starting to go. Any way I can check for sure? Thanks

Hello all,

Ive got a weird issue here. More often than not, when I log onto Windows on my laptop, my desktop icons are missing text. It is not limited to just the icons though. Context menus are all missing text as well, along with everything when I open Windows explorer. Folders, apps, docs. etc are all missing their text. This happens to the extent where Im not able to use my computer, which is why I dont have any screenshots. I type in the search box for Cortana, no text. It comes up with suggestions for what I type, but no text again. No labels for anything so Im not able to see what it comes up with for results. Sometimes labels will be partial, parts of words, letters will show up but not the whole thing. If I either log off or restart, sometimes it will all come back and I able to use my computer

Has anyone seen anything like this?

Dell Precision M4800
Windows 10 Pro x64, latest insider build
Intel Core i7 4810MQ
16GB DDR3-1600 RAM
NVIDIA Quadro K2100M
Intel HD Graphics 4600
Samsung PM830 128GB SSD
Seagate FireCuda 1TB SSHD
1366*768 Screen Resolution

EDIT:

Ive searched all over Google. I cant find anything that really seems to match the issue I am having, and some are from a couple years ago. I really have no idea whats going on here.

Hi all,

I'm trying to install a second hard drive for additional storage. The HDD is recognized in bios but is not showing up in windows after every reboot. The only way to make it appear is to go into device manager and scan for hardware changes. The drive will appear and be accessible for a while and then disappear again randomly. So, I will have to scan for hardware changes again to make it show up. Anyone have any ideas on what do try? I appreciate any and all help as this is driving me nuts!

Things I have already tried:
1. Checked for loose connections
2. Replaced SATA connector and changed power connector
3. Swapped SATA port with my primary drive (Primary drive still recognized and boots fine)
4. Removed optical drives to reduce load on PSU
5. Updated BIOS and drivers
6. RMA the HDD

you need to initialize the drive and format it first before windows can use or even "see" drive

I do not know what o.s. you have, but this should be close for all...
go into the Control Panel, select Administrative Tools, select Computer Management, look for Disk Management, and click on that. You should see your drive in the Disk Management box, Select the option to initialize and then format it. When you go to My Computer, your drive should show up

I have tried doing fresh installs of Windows 10 multiple times but I always face this issue where items in the start menu and/or taskbar jump lists disappear randomly. I am attaching a screenshot for this. This also happens when after I close any game (Eg. Battlefield 4, Tomb Raider etc).
The icons, though invisible are still working if I move my cursor over them and click them. Restarting explorer.exe fixed the problem temporarily.

Hi sabaatworld and welcome to Ten forums!

Can you give us some more information.

You mentioned fresh install. Always from same source? Is media OK?
Did you try to clean jump lists, icon cache etc...

Picture shows icons are there, but no text. Is info behind still there? Hoover mouse pointer over icon with empty text box (not pinned, below in list) to see if text - path info shows..

I recently upgraded my computer with two Raptor WD hard drives running in RAID 0 which took up both of my Sata plugs. Now I have to plug my Plextor PX-755SA DVD drive into my SataII plug on my ASRock Dual-VSTA motherboard. For some reason it seems to work sometimes but not most of the time, in Windows it doesn't show up under devices nor does it autorun CDs/DVDs when I put them in. However, sometimes it does show up and sometimes I can insert DVDs in and it will run them. I can't figure out what I'm doing differently at times to make it work or not work, seems totally random. I can boot off a CD though and when my computer boots it detects the DVD as a 5th Master or some such. In my bios I have the SataII controller enabled, I know the drive works because it works sometimes but not all the time. It worked when it was plugged into a normal Sata plug.....can't think of what else the problem might be, it supposedly doesn't need any special drivers, the DVD drive has no jumpers on it.

To start with, about 3 weeks ago I installed a new wireless adapter, Asus PCE-N53 Dual-Band Wireless-N600 Adapter. My computer froze up while installing the driver, but after I rebooted everything seemed fine, so I tried to install the drivers again. I don't remember exactly what happened, but I ended up doing a system restore to before I tried installing, and was able to get the adapter working fine.

After that I found that my second HDD, WD2003FZEX 2TV 7200 RPM, would suddenly disappear, along with my dvd drive. Sometimes going to disk management and rescanning would fix it, otherwise I had to do a full reboot. The issue went away when I moved the wireless adapter to a new slot, but came back a few days ago. I tried everything I could think of or find online to fix it, including buying a new hard drive, Samsung SSD 850 Evo 500gb. Problem still persists, except now even the new ssd disappears too, and my computer has started locking up for 3-5 minutes at a time before they disappear.

Things I've tried so far are

Changing out cables and ports
Reseating all of the drives
Taking out wireless adapter
Reformatted both boot drive (adata 64gb ssd) and the WD drive
Updated bios to latest version
Installed sata drivers from the motherboard website, seemed to fix it for a day but then came back again.

At this point I'm just considering buying a new motherboard, but I'd prefer not to fork out the money for that and have to rebuild it myself if I don't have to.

Hi Cllex,

Welcome to Seven Forums! I hope we will be of assistance.

Firstly this could be a number of issues but seen as though you have changed and swapped some of the hardware and the problem still persists; I think we should try look at what has gone wrong in the software.

In the way you have described it, am I right in saying this issue first came about when you failed to install a network card?

I have recently moved from from XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro and I am having a particular problem regarding desktop shortcuts:
I have many shortcuts on my desktop for quick access to my companies 2 large global network drives, however, at random Windows seems to delete all of my shortcuts to any network folder! With having about 15-20 shortcuts this is causing me considerable time
and pain having to find the folders and creating new shortcuts; so i have 2 questions:
1. Is there any way to stop this happening or is it a bug in the system?
2. Is there a quick way to backup and restore desktop shortcuts?
FYI - I use my Laptop both On and Offline from the my companies network, in addition I sometimes connect to the companies networks via a VPN; maybe this is causing an issue.
Hopefully someone out there can help me?!
Cheers.

Answer:Desktop Shortcuts Keep Disappearing/Deleting Randomly

This is a well-known problem, which as it turns out is actually a kind of twisted "feature" of Windows 7.
Basically, there's a script that Windows 7 runs that regularly checks your desktop shortcuts and if it finds more than 4 of them "broken" (i.e., pointing to something that's not available at the moment), it removes all the "broken" ones!
I guess Microsoft feels somehow responsible for helping you keep your desktop clean. Perhaps this is a Good Thing for the non-technical people in their commercials who think up things in the back of a taxi.
This is the script that governs this activity:
C:\Windows\Diagnostics\Scheduled\Maintenance\TS_BrokenShortcuts.ps1
If you look in it, not too far from the end is a statement that compares the length of the list of broken shortcuts to 4.  It's the only occurrence of the numeral 4 in the entire script.
If you replace the 4 with a very large number, your problem should be solved.

I am experiencing what appears to be a really weird Access 2003 bug. I have a table with maybe 30 fields, but whenever I modify the table in design view the modified field usually disappears from design view after editing. Form controls, macros, queries, etc all still work although they may occasionally complain about the field "not existing" but then make the change anyways. Additionally, when one field disappears other ones that had previously disappeared usually randomly reappear and several random fields "s_GUID" and "TempField*0" appear out of nowhere. Compacting and repairing the database has not changed this behavior. Am I just going crazy or is this a bug inherent with the use of Access 2003?

Answer:Access 2003 table fields disappearing randomly

Try a blank database and import everything in to it.
Of course you could stop messing with it.

I purchased the Yoga Pro 2 on Thursday October 17. I love the computer for so many reasons, (especially since it replaces my 4 year old Compaq that was 6.5lbs!) however, I am also having a few issues with it. It is the i7/8GB/256GB model from BestBuy. I am experiencing the same yellow issue as is mentioned by many on here. I didn't realize it, though, until reading these forums and then comparing to my old computer and my ipad and iPhone. A little disappointed, though it looks like Lenovo may be working on a solution. But the real reason I originally came to look at this forum is because of 2 things: my fan and battery. The fan (on the right side of the keyboard) is always on! I didn't expect this, and am wondering if mine is a lemon or if others are noticing the same thing. It's pretty noticeable, especially in a quiet room. I was showing off my new computer to a friend and the very first thing she said was that it was loud! She was using a MacBook pro, which wasn't making any noise at all. The second thing is the battery... I am attaching 4 photos all taken within a few minutes of each other. If you cant see them, they are all of the battery meter on my screen. I fought troubleshooting my wi-fi problem with my 13 inch yoga for about 3 hours today.  I had been having problems with lag and intermittent connections.  I set up and desktop hard wired to my router and another laptop using wireless both next to my yoga.  I then ran pingtest.net several times on all three machines.  On the desktop and laptop, I got results with 0 packet loss, pings in the teens and jitter 1-5.  On my yoga, I got up to 3% packet loss, pings 100-200 and jitter 35 - 100's.  I tried hardwiring the yoga through usb 3.0 adapter and also tried a usb wireless adapter - still got the same results.  I finally found someone who said their problems appeared or disappeared depending on the orientation of the yoga.  I had my yoga with the keyboard down and the screen tilted backwards.  For the heck of it, I set it up traditional style with the keyboard in front of me looking at the screen.  Well I be - that fixed it.  I folded it back, tested, problems.  Brought it back - worked.  Tried tent style, no dice.  The only way I could get consistently low numbers was to set it up with the keyboard in front looking at the screen. I went back to the usb adapter and discovered that it also would work properly when the yoga was set up that way.   Now, if anyone can tell me why this would make a difference, and even better, what to do about it - I would be much appreciative.  &n... The touchpad stops working randomly when the computer is woken back from sleep and it has to be rebooted to get it going agin. An externally connected mouse will work fine during that time. Is this due to a possibly faulty touchpad??

Answer:The touchpad on my V3-331 stops working randomly.

Hi Jithin1,

It is possible to be a defective touchpad. I would suggestion a few things you can try on your own before looking into service options.

Update or reinstall touchpad drivers
Refresh the PC to see if that takes care of any issues.
Reload the PC entirely if possible

If you continue having issues, contact your local Acer support team so that they can help setup services to take care of the touchpad issues you're having.

Hi! T420 touchpad dies and trackpoint keeps on working. Sometimes after some time the trackpoint may also die. After boot, touchpad & trackpad recovers and is working maybe for an hour, or a day. Then it reoccurs. This happens randomly on some T420's, while other T420's doesnt encounter it never-ever. Any tips how to troubleshoot this one? Hello,

I have a very annoying problem:
My touch pad is deactivating and activating itself all the time. As if i would constantly press fn+f9 (several times in a row). I had this problem before but it just stopped. It seems the problem occurs more often when using the keyboard.
And the small on/off-Button doesn't seem to work.
I cleaned the keyboard and removed the F9-button in case but the only result was that I can't put it back as it won't stay in position...

please help me. I can barely use the keyboard as I am constantly interrupted by the touch pad on/off-message.

cheers,

Hey guys.

I have never had this problem before so I don't know what to do.

While on my laptop my touchpad will randomly stop moving. I can still zoom in and out by pinching, I can right click and left click, but I cannot move the pointer . As soon as I plug in my mouse, the touchpad works again. I can unplug the mouse and it will still work for a few minutes then the problem will happen again.

I'm running windows 7 64bit,

I also have not installed anything recently.

The mouse cursor is either restricted to just moving vertically up and down or it randomly moves itself all over the place. NOT a virus or malware causing it, I've checked it thoroughly. Is it fixable or do I have to get another complete palm rest and touch pad part? Which of course would be used and possibly have the same failure. Just got done putting it back together from taking the keyboard and display off to tighten all the hinge screws. The right hinge inside the lid was just about to come loose completely. Now it's nearly tight as new. While I had it apart I disconnected and reconnected the touch pad cable, hoping it might just be a bad connection there. No change.

I have a new G50-80 that has a strange touchpad issue. Randomy the touchpad will respond sluggishly or not at all. At other times using the touchpad will cause web pages and the like to resize, as if I was using two fingers. The tray icon also shows two or more pressure indicators when the touchpad is playing up. What is the best course of action? I have already tried updating the touchpad drivers with no success.

Answer:New G50-80 touchpad randomly not functioning correctly

I bought a brand new laptop from Dell.  The touchpad kept crashing (it won't respond to taps and sometimes stops scrolling, but the right and left click continue to work).  After several months of calling tech support, having the laptop serviced remotely, and sending it in twice for repairs, all without success, Dell sent me a new computer.  After only four days, the same thing is now happening with the new one.  Now Dell says that means the problem is on my end.
I haven't downloaded any new programs, everything is up-to-date, and when I check the touchpad settings, it shows everything as being enabled.  The touchpad stops working randomly, on different websites and in different programs.  I never had this problem on any previous Dell laptops.  I can't think what I might be doing to cause this issue.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, On my Travelmate B115 (that I've barely used at all), the touchpad randomly stops working. If I deactivate it and activate it (Fn+F7 twice) it starts working again, but I have to do that once every two minutes, and it's really annoying. Sometimes it also is very slow or imprecise in its movements, and it seems sometimes that it clicks without my wanting it to (it could be that I'm grazing the pad without noticing sometimes, but I'm really writing "in the air" with only my fingers touching the computer's keys now to avoid it, and it still happens).I am extremely frustrated since this laptop is brand new. Can anyone help me?Elisabeth

Answer:Touchpad randomly stops working

Exactly the same problem. Just emailed Acer and told me to reset the laptop. I did it and the same problem. Now, directly they don't answer my email.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15-5547 running Win 8.1. Every now and then the scroll feature (two fingers vertical swipe to scroll the screen), and the two finger tap for right click, will stop working. When this happens, all the other features on the touchpad seem to work. If I restart the laptop it starts working again. I've tried going into services.msc and setting 'Human Interface Devices" to automatic startup, but it doesn't help. There's something else pretty weird also... When I go into the system tray (lower right), right click the touchpad icon, and select Touchpad Properties, it takes me into the Dell Pointing Devices windows. Inside this window, there is a sliding switch to disable the touchpad. When I disable it, the touchpad still works. Weird. Does anybody have any ideas how I can get this sorted out. I'm also using a wireless USB mouse on the same laptop, not sure if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Answer:Touchpad scroll dies randomly

Hi Jools

Personally I would look to see what touchpad driver version you are using and then either update it with an in-place update, or uninstall (my favourite option, then install new driver) the current driver and then re-install, as it may just be a slight corruption.

Latest driver HERE
Also a thought, when the touchpad stops with the scroll feature, had your laptop been left not used for a period of time, like hibernation?

There as a thread on this but I'm posting a new on because that one is marked as solved, but it is not solved, the solution accepted there is a non-solution as far as I'm concerned (uninstall Ultranav and install software from Synaptics). The issue is, with touchpad enabled, and tapping disabled, at random intervals, it reenables itself. This is extremely annoying, especially as the tapping is so very sensitive and has no sensitivity adjustment, so one suddenly finds oneself accidentally performing actions as unintended click events happen. It is extremely random. Sometime months will pass without it reenabling itself. Other times it starts happening every day or so, and then will revert to behaving itself for another couple months. Docking and undocking seem to make it worse. Sometimes it seems it happens on unsleeping, but not always.  I have a T61, running Windows XP SP3. This problem has happened for me as long as I've had this laptop, over a year, and across a number of UltraNav updates (as other system updates...I generally keep major components updated like BIOS, Powermanager, and Ultranav). PLEASE fix this, it's driving me nuts! Thanks, Eric

Answer:Touchpad tapping renables itself randomly

Similar problem - R61 on XP/SP3, Touchpad reactivates itself after "standby" and has now started to reactivate itself randomly.   Really really irritating.  I never use the Touchpad but there is no way to totally disable it.

Hi all. I have already posted this once here. The topic had quite a few views and not a single reply. I'm giving this another try, as the problem persists and is not getting any better.

The keyboard on my Aurora m9700 is having some strange issues. I cannot figure if it is software or hardware related, either. At random intervals, the keyboard will cease function. But when I go into standby, then come out of standby the problem seems to be magically fixed! In fact, the problem just happened right after I finished typing the last sentence. I checked event manager, nothing changed. I had to go into standby and come out of it...

So please, is there anyone on here that can help me out? I have reformatted the computer since this started happening and nothing has changed, so I do not know what could possibly be causing this!

Answer:Weird keyboard laptop issue. Keyboard randomly stops functioning until I standby.

Just going to keep bumping this until I get a reply, or bet banned. Every thread has some form of reply...maybe I smell or something?

I have multiple Thinkpad T510's...  Using the latest UltraNav driver (15.0.24.0) Under Windows 7 Enterprise x64...  For some reason, the Touchpad will intermittantly become unresponsive...  After 6-10 seconds, the touchpad will begin responding again...  When the touchpad is unresponsive, no functions appear to work (cursor movement, tapping, scrolling, multi finger gestures, etc)...  During the period where the touchpad is unresponsive, the touchpoint or an external mouse move the mouse pointer without issue, and all the touchpad & touchpoint buttons respond normally...  so I know it's not Windows holding back the mouse cursor...I've personally seen the issue in multiple T510's... Has anyone else experienced this with the T410 or T510?  Is there something quirky in the driver?  Anyone know of a solution to keep the touchpad responsive?  (Overall it doesn't sound like a bad problem, but really it's very irritating to have the mouse cursor or scrolling functions, etc randomly stop for 10 seconds when you're working along....)

Minor issue - but annoying....I like to use the touchpad to move the mouse, but I don't like the 'tap to click' feature, so I uncheck the 'enable tapping' option in the UltraNav mouse driver. Life is good. Then ... every few days ... after I wake my computer (I am lucky and don't need to reboot often .... I usually put the computer to sleep when moving the computer)....  I find the the touchpad is acting as a 'mouse click' and when I go into Mouse control panel, I see that 'enable tapping' has a check mark ("tick" in English-English). I then uncheck this box, and everything works fine for a few days.I haven't been able to identify any specific action that causes this ... and the timing can be every couple of days ... then once every 2-3 weeks.Any ideas?

Answer:Touchpad 'enable tapping' randomly gets turned on

I have a w500 and experience a similar issue. I set the Ultranav to Tracpoint only and in a day or two both tracpoint and touchpad are active. My conclusion is it's an Ultranav driver issue. I may roll back the driver and see if it fixes things.

Well, probably not at random, because there has to be a reason.
Lenovo S510p Touch, Windows 8.1, Synaptics TouchPad V7.5, Driver version 16.6.6.3 dated May 17, 2013. Microsoft Office 10 and no oddball software installed.
I changed the touchpad settings to ENABLE vertical scrolling and DISABLE the edge swipes function that causes the hideous Windows popups if you swipe from the left edge. Made the settings as shown in image at the bottom.
The problem is the settings revert to the defaults after a time. It's a pain to reset things several times a day. Can't find anything on the Lenovo site specific to this. Looked at the Synaptics site and they say there's probably another device driver that causes the reset. I tried disabling the touchscreen, but no help there. Too inexperienced (i.e.dumb) to know what else to try.
Ideas? Thanks!

Has anyone experienced this? In UltraNav the reverse scrolling isn't checked but sometiems it just starts scrolling reverse (i.e. cycle fingers up to scroll down and vice versa). The only way I can fix it is to actually go and enable reverse scrolling, and then disable reverse scrolling. I did have to remove the keyboard when I was adding RAM, but pretty sure the touchpad is separate from the keyboard. I do have the latest drivers.

I have 2 problems with my computer, both of which require me to hold the power button down for 5 seconds to hard reboot (and I wait 30 seconds before turning it back on because I heard that was good somewhere...). My computer either:

A) randomly loses signal to the monitor, resulting in the monitor going to sleep while my computer is still on. When this happens, audio from iTunes continues to play normally, but I cannot pause it or control the volume which I can usually do from my keyboard. This leads me to believe that I have absolutely no control over my computer when my computer loses signal with the monitor. This can happen at any time... when I'm playing a videogame, browsing the internet, or when the computer is locked and I'm not using it at all.

B) randomly freezes. This locks up the computer completely and I am unable to move my mouse or control anything. I don't know if audio continues to play because this hasn't occurred while I've been listening to something on iTun... Read more

Could it be an issue with the BIOS? I don't really know what that is or how it works.

I consider myself relatively security conscious. I don't take risks, know most of the warning signs, etc.

Despite this, something goofy happened today that definitely freaked me out.

I'm on a 6 month old XPS 15 9550. Have used/use malwarebytes for offline malware scanning, windows firewall, and windows 10's Defender software.

Working in Premiere, editing video. Computer crashes. First time.

Start back up, log in.

Only recycle bin icon remains on my desktop. All other folder/files gone.

Open windows explorer, some folders are still listed, but they are all empty.

Searching for my user account's "USER" folder, gone.

Did some reading, did a system restore, no change. Came across an article about a virus that hides folders. Scanned computer, nothing. Malware, nothing. Kapersky, nothing. Figured out that the folders weren't really "empty", just all the contents were "hidden".

Set folder options to show all hidden files, then started manually "un-hiding" all the one's I could think of that were obviously not supposed to be hidden.

Ran process explorer, no red flags jumped out at me.

Additionally - I randomly opened the user profiles/security/permissions, and found nothing strange, EXCEPT that my loggin, which I've only ever used, had all permissions removed except "read". I tried changing the permissions, and met with errors. Computer crashed.... Read more

Myself, along with a couple of other people on this forum have been experiencing the exact same problem. I also found some other people on other virus help forums who have the same problem as well. This new ?virus? seems to be spreading, and no one seems to know what to do about it. It just started during the beginning of April.

The main problem is that my computer just keeps randomly freezing. It can happen every 10 - 15 minutes or even up to an hour. The computer just freezes and you can?t do anything except for seeing your mouse move around. Ctrl alt delete does nothing at all either. It just locks up and you are forced to manually turn off the computer and restart it. It is extremely frustrating. It all started during the beginning of April where my computer restarted on its own, then it just started freezing up.

I ran several anti virus programs, spy ware removal programs, and an AVG scan and could find nothing of any relevance. I even had a technician come to my house and he couldn?t find anything. He thinks that it?s the memory or ram, but I highly doubt that, my laptop is only like 2 years old.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is a new virus I believe and it is driving me insane, thank you!

I have ran a Malware Antimalware Bites scan, AVG, Ad Aware, Spybot, and SUPERAntiSpyware scans, all found nothing.

Using Firefox 3, on windows vista 64bit. I turned on the PC today, started tooling around online and then out of nowhere the page backs up on its own, then goes forward to the original page, without refreshing because my text entry on forums stays put. Also, it will randomly right click wherever the mouse currently is. It did it once, then not again for 10 minutes, then it did it twice in 2 seconds.

Im downloading and installing HJT atm, and updating my mouse drivers. But if anyone knows what this is, im all ears.

I have 2 routers set up, my internet randomly randomly loses/regains connection.

First router is connected to modem, that's an Actiontec router that's wireless. Second router is a D-link DI 624 wireless router. All the computers are connected "Wired", only wireless devices are the laptop(which is connected wireless to Router 1), and Wii(which is connected wireless to Router 2). Router 2 is a brand new router btw, and I upgraded the firmware on it.

So here's how my connection is setup: Internet > Modem > Router 1 > Router 2 > This computer. If I simply directly connect this computer to Router 1(instead of connecting it to Router 2), the disconnections doesn't happen.

Now at first I had only one router. I installed a second router by simply shutting off comp, plugging a network cable from router 1 to router 2, then simply plugging an additional cable from router 2 to my computer.

I am not sure if I set up 2 routers correctly but all I know is that it works fine "sometimes", the wireless connection(from the second router) always seems to work but the wired connection from Router 2 to this comp.
The intervals varies, some days it may be 3 minutes between each disconnection and reconnection(which isn't too annoying), some days it may be 15 seconds(extremely annoying). Sometimes the disconnections do not happen at all.

Here's what I've tried:
1. I've tried rebooting the router, doesn't fix problem.

Answer:Have 2 routers set up, my internet randomly randomly loses/regains connection

Some things you can try here.
Change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

For multiple routers, I also suggest this configuration.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and nei... Read more

My computer ran fine under Windows 8 but is having issues with the cursor hanging since I installed Windows 10.  Since the original post for this was for the Windows 8 upgrade, I am wondering if the drivers have changed under Windows 10?

I've been having an issue with my X270 laptop since I bought it. The laptop is running Windows 10. What happens is randomly (this can take weeks, or days) the trackpad and pointing stick completely stops working. The only solution is to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them using an external mouse. I've tried various versions of the drivers, including the latest, and it still continues to happen. Any solutions to fix this?

I have put the option of "Do Nothing" on when lid is closed however, I found out that the laptop will just randomly open files/programs/apps whenever I fully close the lid. I double checked and there is no virus/malware on my system, I've updated everything I can think of, and it only happens whenever I fully close the lid.

I tested it by hooking my IdeaPad Y410p to my TV and I closed the lid and watched the touchpad go crazy on my TV's screen. It only happens if I fully close the laptop lid, but if I leave it open a crack it seems to be okay. There seems to be some sort of interference whenever the lid is too close to the touchpad.

It's very annoying and I've resorted to manually shutting off the touchpad before I fully close the lid or I've just manually shut the screen off on my laptop manually.

It's a shame that Lenovo has neglected this issue and I'm very upset since I found this problem out after the return period and I don't want to go through the hassle of getting it fixed.

If anybody finds a fix to this problem please let me know. I've also tried to find a way to automatically turn off the touchpad whenever I close the lid, but everything I've tried so far didn't seem to work.
Any help or other suggestions is welcome!

Thanks in advance

I had exactly the same problem with my Y510P. I changed the 'PalmTracking' setting to 'Maximum' and lowered the Sensitivity a bit. You can change it a bit if you like. When you close the lid and you look at the touchpad pictogram in the taskbar, you can see if it 'detects' movement when the lid is closed. So find your own 'optimal' setting   Hope this helps

In this case, you are advised to perform clean boot and check if there is any software conflict. To know how to do this, the following link can be helpful:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135 If the issue persists even after performing clean boot, then you are advised to take the computer to nearest Acer service center to check if there is any hardware issue. I could really use some help with this. I've searched all over the net and there isn't a real solution to this. Most threads are closed or never answered. I have a Dell Vostro 1510 and everything works fine but when doing things fast or under high cpu load my trackpad locks up for a second and if I try to keep using it it will trail slowly until I stop for a second then go and it works again. Something is temporarily locking it up and it can be very annoying during some things.

It is a Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad. Using "device driver update" produced no new hardware that matched better than what I have currently. The funny thing I noticed is the device drivers for my model on Dell doesn't match what I have..

None of those 3 under Keyboard/Mouse match what I have. Or do they? I matched the synaptic version and it didn't match anything there. Here is a list of my shipped system specs:

Ran the Dell diagnostics and using the symptom tree I ran the 2 tests that fit this issue (I guess it's a real common problem for it to be standard in the system tree) and it didn't detect any errors/issues. All passed. By the way, to clarify what I meant by High CPU Load I was speaking of the cylinder light on the keyboard dash. I think that's actually for the HDD not CPU. So again it seems to happen when the hdd is already under load.

Don't know if anyone can help me out but i recently bought a P50-A laptop and i am having issues with the touch-pad.

Basically what is happening is that every now and then my touch-pad randomly locks itself and then wont allow me to unlock and will unlock once I have reset the laptop.

I have checked the drivers and everything appears to be working fine and there appears to be no hardware conflicts.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Answer:Touchpad randomly locks itself and wont unlock on Satellite P50-A

Hi

Have you noticed this behaviour from the first day? Can you enable/disable (lock/unlock) touchpad using F5 (FN+F5)?

Windows 10 Start Menu opens randomly But I'm Not Using Touch Pad.While reading information on internet or playing a game app or whatever, the Start menu will open. The mouse icon is usually over on the left side of screen (far away from Start Icon) and my hands are not touching keyboard. The notebook is only about 1 1/2 months old. It's been doing this since new. How do I shut down this "feature" down?

Just purchased the Inspiron 15 7569, which seems to be having serous problems with the touchpad freezing sporadically.
Freezing in this context means no click feedback, can move pointer, no ability to click on anything and sometimes stuck in click and hold/select mode.
The only solution at this point was to disable the HID driver and turn off double tap/drag.
Looking at the drivers installed and available for this touchpad (ACPI\SYN0609),  It seems to have only Microsoft default drivers enabled and there is no available driver from Dell under this model.
Is there an alternate driver I can use? and/or will Dell be publishing specific touchpad drivers for this device.

I just got my ThinkPad today so I'm pretty pissed off about this. Whenever I try and use the touchpad the cursor will randomly, every now and again, start jumping across and around the page, making it impossible to work with. It will also trigger random gestures, minimizing everything randomly too. I am seriously pissed off, this is ridiculous from Lenovo on a new and recent model. What can I do about this? I don't want to have to send it back a day after getting it.

Answer:E420s touchpad randomly moving cursor (even when not typing)

Okay I managed to fix the problem by installing the Synaptic driver. I have a little annoying problem now that if I hold my thumb on the click while moving the cursor, it is a little more laggy and stuttery than if I just do it without my hand on it.

Really weird stuff going on... The laptop can just be sitting there (and we are not doing anything) and IE will just pop open... Also, could just be sitting there (dormant or in Word for example) and some sound from the internet could just start playing... This is my work computer for a school system, so security is tight at visiting suspect sites...

Anyway, here is the log.txt file...

On Mozilla Firefox, tabs will occasionally open to random websites. Also, when I click on search results in Google, it will often redirect me to a random website. I've run Malwarebytes and it has come up clean. Also, the svchost.exe process will randomly start to go insane and start using up most of the CPU. However, this usually doesn't correlate with a tab opening up or me being redirected by Google.

Answer:Tabs Open Randomly, Google Redirects Randomly

The cause of this search redirect in Google seems to be a Firefox add-on / plugin that gets installed without the user?s consent and that does not appear in the list of installed add-ons / plugins. It is not clear how the add-on is installed other than that it is done automatically without the user?s consent. The Google redirects make use of Javascript and a first temporary fix is to disable JavaScript in the Firefox web browser to stop the redirects. This can be done in Tools > Options > Content tab by unchecking Enable JavaScript. This is also a good indicator if the computer has been infected with Goored. If the redirects stop it is Goored. If they continue it is something else. If your running some other browser besides FireFox DO NOT use this tool!!!!The easiest way to clean Goored is by using the GooredFix tool that can be downloaded below. http://jpshortstuff.247fixes.com/Go...This tool should be executed as an administrator and Firefox needs to be closed before it is executed. AGAIN, If your running some other browser DO NOT use this tool!!!! To execute the tool as an administrator right-click it and select Run as administrator from the menu. The program will automatically scan the Firefox directories and the Registry entries of the web browser. It will furthermore clean offending add-ons if they are discovered and write a log file to the computer desktop. Please post that log here!!Cheers

I noticed yesterday that youtube randomly crashes whenever I was watching a full screen 720p videos. Then today, I noticed that even when I was watching 480 video not in full screen it would still crash like in the middle of the video. The error message I would get here would be something like "Shockwave Flash plug-in have crashed". It would crash on all chrome, firefox and IE.

Sometimes instead of just showing me the shockwave flash has crashed, it just restarts my computer completely.

Sometimes when I'm just listening to music on itunes, the computer would also randomly restart.

Everytime it restart itself like this I would get the error message:

Guys I've been using this little Thinkpad x120e for years: I can't find a replacement that does as much as well .
I just did a fresh install of win7 x64 home premium on a new samsung 840 pro ssd. it all works swell.

except today: doing absolutely nothing unusual, running on battery, I left my unit closed for a while, came back, opened, started to work, and the cursor was gone. Not just hard to see, but gone. had to use keys to migrate my way out of everything safely and power down to get it back.
I checked the System logs for a related error but see none. I have errors, but nothing relating to the touchpad.

the thinkpad of course uses the combo joystick and touchpad with buttons for each. the driver I chose to install on purpose however is the generic microsoft 'mouse' driver. I have always used it that way since I bought the system because the Ultranav software/firmware is buggy [long story]. never had this issue before now.

how to troubleshoot? logically this would seem to be a power policy thing, but why the random occurrence? I've been using it every day on battery, and every day plugged in also. first occurrence. no updates to the driver: I don't allow auto updates

Answer:Fresh install: Touchpad pointer lost after sleep. randomly.

The graphics driver is also involved. It could be a conflict with the graphics driver or a problem with the graphics driver.

Are you using the same graphics driver as before?
Have you tried uninstalling the mouse and joystick from Device manager and rebooting? (they will be reinstalled with the generic Windows driver)
The order you install drivers can make a difference sometimes.

Hi all, laptop: 580issue: touchPad issueswindows: 8.1driver: elandesctiption:the touchPad randomly gives issues.the touchPad will work for a minute or a few and then stop working, however not all funcionalities stop.and it is not consistant on which functionalities stop. The functionalities that allways stoop: one touch click, left clickSometimes stop: scroll, right clickand this just constantly happens every few seconds, minutes - not predictable. In addition when the issue occurs it will give me wierd bugs like - will act as if it right clicked at random, even though I did not right click, during this period the curser can randomly pop into a different location on the screan even though I did not instruct it to do so. When the issues occur, I can it back to normal functionality for a few seconds / minutes by: long right click and immidiately after a left click. I have sent it in to get fixed allready - it was fixed in a lenovo lab. They fixed it and it was good for a short period after (days - weeks) and then began occuring again at random. any ideas what I can do? If possible - step by step instructions would really help, since I am not a computer genious. Thanks!

Welcome to Major Geeks!

You only have some minor adware junk from Babylon and Funmoods. Also you have a hacked/illegal copy of MS Office running the below hack should be removed

These is not the cause of your mouse problems which also is not due to malware. You are likely having hardware issues. Since you tried the mouse on another PC, it may be the drivers or a driver conflict on this PC. You will have to ask about this in the Hardware Forum or Drivers Forum.

You can run the below for the adware junk.

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
The tool will open and start scanning your system.
Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your... Read more

Ok, my laptop is only about a few months old, a DELL INSPIRON 6400, real nice piece of work, especially for a dell. As of now, it has plenty of free hard disk space (100 GB)and 2 GB of ram. It was working fine for the first few months, but the past week or so it has become randomly sluggish with regards to typing. Whether on Internet browses or even on notepad, it goes a few seconds of normal speed and then slows down tremendously and goes back again. Mouse works fine when the typing slows down. I tried DeFraging, and running Spybot. Norton Anti-Virus is on. the computer is running 60 processes, 17,000 handles and 685 + or - threads. but for a Pc of 1.8 Ghz processing and 2 GB or RAM, that shouldnt be a problem at all.

suggestions welcome.

Answer:randomly sluggish keyboard

Have you updated software or upgraded hardware prior to this sluggish typing? If you haven't then call up dell they'll either send a certified tech to your home or business. He or she might suggest that your keyboard be replaced or MOBO or both.

PC might be 1.8GHz but if that's Intel CPU it might be using speedstep technology. That slows down the CPU to 800 to 900MHz to save on the battery. When you plugin to AC outlet then you go back to 1.8GHz. On AMD laptop you can use their software to bypass this and then use the CPU to the max sometimes over the rated speed. Trade off the laptops gets hotter.

Good evening, Every now and then, after using the laptop for a while, or getting it from sleep mode, the touchpad simply quits working as it should. Clicking by simply tapping the pad stops working, and clicking by really pushing in the trackpad itself will only activate either right or left click. Sometimes it even quits working at all. After rebooting the device the issues will be over, which makes me think it is some sort of a software issue. Also every now and then, while working in my student room, my laptop loses its internet connection. While there are many Wi-Fi signals in my student room-complex, it can't detect any of them. Then, after waiting for some time and rebooting the device once or twice, the connection will get restored, and all the other signals are back as well. Both issues aren't very huge, yet very annoying when working on a paper or so. Especially since I bought the laptop a little longer then two months ago, assuming due to it's price and the ThinkPad?s reputation (being able to stop a bullet and yet still work) this is a huge disappointment Anyone who has a solution for me for either one of these problems? Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo W540 randomly loses Wifi connections and its trackpad/touchpad often doesn't work

I have also noticed some wifi problems on the W540. I have the Intel AC7260, and occassionally, it stops working - reporting a driver problem. When this happens, it is not working at all and cannot scan for available wifi networks - exactly like you report. However, if I do a quick uninstall and scan for hardware changes within device manager, normal operation is restored, without having to reboot repeatedly. After a while, it will stop working again - this is not too frequent, however. I assume it is a dirver problem.

Hello
I have a Linksys WUSB54G wireless adapter running on a Windows 98SE computer. Each time the computer starts the "Linksys Network Monitor" (the thing that tells you signal strenth, network details, etc.) will start in the tray. But after about 30 min, it'll randomly disappear from the tray, and I am not sure what is causing this. I also noticed that once it does leave the tray, the mouse will freeze for about 1/2 a second on the screen. This little mouse freeze will happen about every 8 seconds.

Why is this icon disappearing and how can I fix this? Thank you

Answer:Linksys WUSB54G "network monitor" tray icon randomly exiting and disappearing

Does the adapter lose power at the same time the utility icon disappears? If so, either the USB port is suffering some sort of problem, or the wireless adapter is overheating and drawing too much current, causing the USB port to shut down.

Having a weird problem where I'll lose say, Japanese character support randomly. I'll play a video with a Japanese filename, then the next time I look again (could be the next system start up, the next hour, don't know..) the characters will have become all boxes. After a restart it'll be fine again. Language packs are downloaded.

Answer:Language support "disappearing" randomly @ Windows 7

Hi there,

This depends on wether the language packs you're using are paid-for. Turns out that Windows 7 Language Packs are a feature only included in Ultimate and Enterprise editions, so if you haven't installed them from a legal source, this could be the issue. I found a very similar issue on Windows Seven Forums, and they can't seem to find a solution.

However, I did find a tip regarding this issue on a blog called Piyin Joe's regarding Chinese (but this shold also relate to Japanese characters). They simply state that if the language shows up as "garbage" or empty boxes, try manually adjusting the Encoding in Internet Explorer's "Page" menu.

Microsoft Word and most other applications should also display the language by default, but problems may occur due to missing fonts. Try selecting the text and choosing a simplified or traditional font from the font menu to fix this.

If you've tried this and it doesn't seem to help, sorry about that. Hope you'll find a solution.

Hi,
I'm new to this forum so first of all. Hello!

I have a problem with my Microsoft keyboard (Model: wireless optical desktop 1000) on Windows 7 x32, the receiver seems to disconnect every few minutes, it is not a battery problem, the receiver disconnects and not the keyboard/mouse separately.
Even tough I've tried changing batteries, I've tried switching to another USB port, the receiver is not connected through a hub, there is not interference around, I've tried installing and updating the software to the latest version (IntelliPoint, IntelliType).
Be sure the problem has nothing to the with the set itself, I've been working on Windows Vista so far and the keyboard set has worked flawlessly, I have a dual boot with Vista, and it is still working flawlessly (under Vista).

Thanks a LOT in advance!
(BTW: the system specs on my profile is a completely different machine than the one with the keyboard set problem)

Answer:Microsoft Keyboard Disconnects randomly on Win 7

Welcome!

Sure sounds like a driver issue to me.

Try installing the drivers in compatibility mode for Vista.
