I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My laptop was working fine yesterday, charging and powering on an off normally. It updated without my telling it to. When it was complete (since it said don't turn computer off until finished) I either just shut the lid or I shut it down when it was done. This morning when I wake up and try to turn it on it won't power up. Then I noticed that the power button was blinking, like it is in sleep mode, tried pressing 10 times then holding down power button for 30-60 seconds and still nothing. Next I saw that although the power is plugged in the battery light won't come on. I don't know if it is charging (it could be dead). I tried a bunch of different outlets and that isn't the issue. I also listened to the computer and there is a very soft high pichted noise that dissapears if you unplug it, and that when you hit the power button and it starts blinking, the sounds changes fom high to lower pitch and back again over and over. But no other sounds or fans kicking on or drive spinning. I am pretty sure it isn't the power cord but have no way of checking. And I can't remove the battery without voiding the warrenty. Anyone have any advice, besides calling to have Lenovo send me a box to send it back to Lenovo since it is only 4 months old and still under warrenty?

Answer:Lenovo Edge 15 laptop 80K9 battery light won't come on, power light blinks

Suggest you eliminate problem 1. Do you have spare power supply unit? Worth trying that first. Your battery may be in sleep mode and won't wake up as battery is drained and hence needs charging. 2. You can go to local retailer and suspect a good one (John Lewis) will let you charge it for 30 mins. Ideally go back to person you bought it from. 3. Once you are in use restore to go back to last working point. I have to telll you the support from Lenovo and Microsoft was very very very disappointing. I tried to even return the PC and swop for HP as mine is only 2 months old. However, the answer was send back to Lenovo. Hope you find a way to get it charged

Answer:Can I upgrade or add in a GPU on a Lenovo edge 15 80k9?

Good day and welcome to the community.

Based on the hardware manual:
https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_flex_2_pro_15_edge_15_hmm.pdf
the only way to get better graphics capability would be to swap in a different system board. As is the case with almost all laptops, the graphics support chipset is soldered, even in models with discrete graphics.

Have a look at pages 66 and 67 for the system board possibilities.

Hope this helps to clarify.
Regards.

I have a Lenovo Edge 15 80K9 laptop.  Like many others I have seen on this and other forums, it constantly drops the wireless signal.  I have upgraded to all the latest drivers, I have checked the antenna connections on the card itself. I even upgraded my router.   Nothing so far has worked.I have seen others have put in a new wireless card with good success. I would like to replace my card with a more current AC capable card.  Where can I find a list of compatible cards that will work in my machine?Has anyone else replaced their card in the same laptop and what did you replace it with? Thanks

Hi all I am using a Lenovo X1 model 129126U. Since last three months I am having problems connecting any bluetooth device to the machine, previously it used to work fine but then suddenly the bluetooth components dissappeared after several attempts and uninstalling and reinstalling drivers I have been unable to detect and connect any bluetooth devices. The original issue was that all BT components registered in the BT module suddenly disappered and when I tried to re connect the BT devices nothing happened. I continued to have this issue and was experiencing issues only in detecting and paring BT devices but more recently I had uninstalled and reinstalled all the drivers (bluetooth as well as wireless) I have started to experience a new issue that is as soon as I initiate the BT pairing activity my wireless connection gets dropped. Considering there may be a conflict between BT and WIFI, I even disabled the wireless and as discussed on various forums even changed the settings for wifi channel to 5.2g and tried to add BT devices but nothing happens except for dropping of the wifi connection as soon as BT pairing starts. I called Lenovo support and after discussion they even remotely connected to my machine and checked all the drivers and components but couldnt find any issues with the drivers nor any conflicts in the hardware components. They suspected that this is due to an MS update, whereas I suspect that the issue originated after the bios update version 1.66.2.01 or it ma... Read more

Hello, The title pretty much says it all.  I have a Lenovo Edge laptop with a Intel5500 graphics chipset.  I'm connecting to my external monitor via the HDMI adapter, but I'm not able to achieve 60Hz refresh rate at 4k resolution.  Can anyone help or confirm that the Lenovo Edge HDMI port is version 2.0 and or if there's anything else I should try?

Below is my sysinfo. I have a Lenovo Y560 that worked fine up excepting a keyboard issue that I fixed based on a youtube posting. The fix was to tape a small piece of antistatic tape under the keyboard over a screwlike piece of metal. Apparently that metal was causing static by rubbing against the keyboard data cable. It fixed the problem. Previous to the fix, various keyboard keys prompted shortcut keys (maddening and couldn't type).

After assembling the keyboard and the top of the keyboard pad (was very careful to not bring static and assemble properly), the wireless connection began to drop. I have another laptop (Asus) with a similar set-up but a Centrino wifi card (vs. Intel 1000 bgn for the Lenovo) and it was connecting to the wifi no problem. Often, I'll see a yellow sun symbol over the wifi bars or a blue animated circle or a red x. Changing the standard settings does not help. Attaching an ethernet cable brings up a perfect connection. Help! Some things I've thought could be the problem:

1) I've covered an antenna of some sort with the anti-static plastic (pea-sized piece).
2) My wifi card is bad and coincidentally went out when I fixed the other problem above.
3) When the keyboard problem existed, I hit a shortcut that reconfigured the wifi somehow (but it
worked fine before I opened up the keyboard.

Opening up the keyboard was pretty basic so I don't think I messed anything up by opening it (again, everything works fine except for the wi... Read more

Because we've had the machine for 2 years, it's very difficult to find any information on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated: I confirmed that we purchased a Lenovo ThinkPad EDGE 0301CTO with bluetooth -- but until now, we have not ever tried to use it. [We're running Windows 7 [64-bit] on it.] There is no Bluetooth Control Panel with which to add a device [in our case, a bluetooth mouse]. The only information I can find lists using the Fn+F5 key to access a window to enable it [yet, this was for a different model]. Using these keys doesn't bring up any such window. I would suppose adding a bluetooth mouse would be much less of an ordeal than this is becoming. I must be missing something. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad EDGE 0301CTO - Enabling Bluetooth and Adding Bluetooth Devices

Hi, musesupport

If you enter the BIOS of your machine by tapping Enter at the splash screen (screen that says Lenovo while starting up), there should be a tab called Security. Open this tab and then select I/O Port Access. Is there a Bluetooth setting in this list? If so, is it set to Enabled?

If the Bluetooth is set to Enabled, then I would recommend making sure all the drivers (Bluetooth, BIOS, and chipset, in particular) are up to date. All drivers for your machine can be found here.

Good luck, and let me know how it goes
Adam

My Bluetooth devices are dropping for minutes at a time at what seems to be random times. I will connect my mouse and it works fine for 10-20 minutes and then it just stops working. It still shows it as being connected but it does not work. I turn the wireless switch off and back on and it will reconnect and work again. I tried installing the software for the mouse and it recognizes the mouse but doesn't help with the connection problem at all. No physical changes are apparent on the screen when it cuts out, and it happens when using different programs and at different time frames. I know of at least one other person from another board having this problem. I searched and couldn't find another topic on this here, so I apologize if I missed it. Thank you for any help you can provide. INFO: Y550P w/ Windows 7 64-bitModel #:3241

I have a Yoga 13 (Windows 8) and a Lenovo Thinkpad Bluetooth keyboard.  The keyboard disconnects from the computer every few minutes.  Sometimes it reconnects on its own after 30 seconds or so.  Sometimes it needs to be restarted and sometimes it won't reconnect for several minutes despite numerous restarts. I have replaced the keyboard.  The new keyboard behaves exactly the same way.I have replaced the wireless card.  No improvement. It is possible that the new wireless card is also defective. I have tried to update drivers, although the drivers for the keyboard still seem to be dated June 2006, which seems an awfully long time ago. Any ideas?  Lenovo seems stumped (or just does not want to help diagnose the problem).  I do have onsite service.

Well, my first real problem with 8.1, my bluetooth mouse drops connection about every 15-20 minutes. Turn it off and back on it reconnects.

A search of the web shows other people with same problem. I've tried everything I know of, power settings for bluetooth the mouse and usb ports, drivers, uninstall/re-install. This is a real pain in the keister.

Suggestions anyone? This does seem to be a common problem from what I see.

Do you have any other devices which use bluetooth? Maybe the mouse is getting interference from something. I know iPhone's always turn on bluetooth after every update. Just a thought..

I have a Lenovo e530c thinkpad, had no issues but over the past few months the bluetooth wont work and the wifi drops out and goes to "no internet" then comes back on after a couple mins. The laptop came with win 8 and I thought it maybe an issue with the operating system so I put Win 7 pro on and the issue is still there. From looking on the net the Intel pci card has a few connectivity issues. Mine is the N2230. If i try and reinstall the drivers i get the following error "no bluetooth device was detected please make sure your bluetooth device is plugged in". The card is firmly in and screwed down, looking on the net other people have similar issues but nobody can solve it!

I have a Helix model 3697-CTO.  I am having problems connecting to a Sony SRS-BTX300 bluetooth speaker.  The helix recognizes the speaker.  I then try pairing the two devices together.  The helix connects and then in about 15 seconds changes the status of the speaker to Not-Connected.  I have uninstalled the Bluetooth drivers and then updated all drivers and BIOS updates through the solution centre. I have successfully paired the speaker with my Samsung Note 8 Tablet with great success so I know that the speaker unit is working. Any suggestions from Lenovo Support? I have read through the various support topics here with little remedy.  Thank you.

Hello, I've discovered that when i'm connecting the HP Z5000 Mouse to the laptop, the internet connection would start dropping. How it happens:I connect the mouse via bluetooth (paired device) and the mouse works and so does the internet;I restart the laptop without disconnecting the mouse and it restarts with no issues, the mouse works and i have internet connection however, the pages would just fail to load. Either the browser would just load the page, or a message would appear "Could not reach this site". This happens when using bot Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. I disconnect the mouse and the internet is working again, pages load and there are no intreruptions. I used HP Network check whitout the mouse connected and it showed "No issues found" i connect the mouse and run network check again and still no issues found. I restart the laptop with the mouse connected and run HP network check again and again, no issues found.  I have downloaded the latest updates from HP Support assistant and also have the latest Windows 10 updates. Also the Wi Fi icon shows no notifications, the signal is always showing properly, and the status is "Connected, secured" I have uninstalled the Bluetooth driver and re-installed manually from the HP Support web site and also i have tried a BIOS crisis recovery but it made no difference; The problem with this is that i get no notifications or any errors that i could work with to know what causes the timeout... I have a dell inspiron laptop. Core i3. It works fantastically. However, it will randomly disconnect from the internet and then reconnect (usually) soon after. Sometimes I need to restart the computer, or the modem/router but that's only a temporary fix. It prevents me from playing any multiplayer games or talking with people. Sometimes I can't even get Netflix to run because of it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

And by the way, my Macbook works fine.

Answer:Windows 7 laptop drops connection when my router and modem are working

You should look for wireless drivers from the manufacturer.

Also look for a firmware update. A lot of times a firmware update on the router will fix a disconnection issue.

Answer:BT mouse MS SCULPT drops connection with Lenovo G50-45

If you were having issues with the other notebook, tho rare it points to an issue with the mouse itself. Either way - if the BT in the notebook is working fine with other devices, replace the mouse.

Hello, First off let me say that I'm  earning a BS in Computer Science, so I know more than most when it comes to computers, yet this issue vexes me.  I only say that so that any replies understand that my level of technical comprehension is far above average. The title pretty much says it all, I have a 6month old Lenovo Ideapad V560 that cannot maintain an internet connection.  Let me describe the problem in a little more detail: PROBLEM: This computer can connect to any wifi, and seems to drop the connection fairly randomly, however it will drop the connection FASTER when I'm more active, such as loading multiple web pages simultaneously.  That said, it ALWAYS drops the connection during a session, and NOTHING I do can restore the connectivity apart from rebooting. This issue has nothing to do with the router, as it happens on every wifi connection I've ever connected to, school, home, work, McDonalds, etc. I've already extensively researched the issue, so please don't reply and just start linking me to related threads, I've read them, they weren't helpful. I've done a few things already in an effort to resolve the issue, such as: 1) Re-installing Windows 7 Pro x64 2) Re-installing wifi driver 3) Disassembling the machine, removing and reinstalling the wifi Card 4) Disabling "Allow computer to turn device off" power management settings for wifi card and miniport (all network devices, actually) 5... I purchased 4 of these for my company in December 2011 and today have had to arrange for the 3rd one to be returned to Lenovo with the same problem.  The battery stops charging and will not hold charge and will not run unless powered into ac supply. The laptop will then not power on at all, completely dead no lights / sounds etc and when returned the previous 2 they have replaced the motherboard and have had no problems since. Even though have had this problem with 2 of the others Lenovo Technical Support have still said have to return it at my expense which because of the data included on it have had to return special delivery costing £25 a time. They are returned withuin 7 days but think there may be a problem as this is a 75% failure rate. Anybody else had this problem as is putting me off buying anymore?

16-month-old Y50-70 Laptop running Win8.1 has recently started dropping wireless connection after being used for 3 or 4 hours (& getting hot maybe?).  Have tried a new xfinity Gateway modem, a new Rosewill AC750RT Dual Band router, and a TP-Link AV200 Wireless Adapter which have helped a little.  I use a cooling fan in the stand the laptop sits on.  So would it be the fan in the laptop itself dying already (even tho it's only a little over a yr old)?  Or could the internal fan just be dirty & is it possible to clean it?  Thanks for any advice.

Hello folks,

my name is lynn. I have been told on a different forum that my laptop does not have bluetooth on it. So, i went and bought a bluetooth adaptor made by targis. It is a usb device. I have it installed with all drivers. I have a bluetooth iblue 737a+ gps receiver; again, all drivers installed on my laptop for it. For some unknown reason, my computer sees the bluetooth adaptor, but refuses to see the bluetooth GPS receiver. I have had it up at Office depot all morning since i bought the adaptor there, but they could not figure out the problem either. The receiver can be seen when connected via a usb mini cable, but the program i wish to use it with, microsoft streets and trips, requires i use it with bluetooth and not a cable. The adaptor doesn?t see my Windows Mobile phone either. I know the GPS and phone are working properly and fully charged because they see each other and I can use my GPS program on my phone with no problem. . I am out of options and/or ideas. Can anyone suggest anything else i should try? I do have an account on msn and would be happy to voice or video chatg there if someone needs to explain something lengthy to me. Oh, and i am blind so use a screen reader to operate my windows 7 lalptop, but that should not have any bearing on figuring this confounded thign out!! :)

thanks, lynn w.

I have a laptop which I use via a wireless connection to my router. Around every 3-4 mins, the connection drops for around a few seconds and then re-connects. I have proved that the problrm is with the laptop as it does the same on my friend's router. The wireless card is built into the PC (Toshiba Protege 100). Any ideas?

New laptop, connected to my home network which is very stable and has no history of connection issues. After about 10 seconds the laptop drops the connection. Sometimes it'll come back for a while sometimes not, haven't observed any pattern in this yet

All I've done since starting the computer for the first time is installed all the junk that comes with it (Nero stuff mostly) and installed all windows updates (there were over 60 of them) and AVG Free edition. Before doing all that the connection was still not right but it did hold for a lot longer than 10 seconds. It held for over an hour downloading programs like Itunes, AVG and Firefox

Going to control panel > network sharing centre when the connection is down I see the yellow exclamation mark between my computer and my network. Troubleshooting this resets the network adapter, gives me the error 'The default gateway is not available' and says that it is fixed. The connection then works again for about 10 seconds and drops once more.

From setting up the network I think the default gateway is the router IP address?

The internet on the other computers on the network (one desktop one laptop) is fine and uninterrupted

I can't get the connection to hold for long enough to download SysInfo but this is the laptop:

Ever since i've had my laptop it's always been randomly dropping connection and not connecting again until i reset the internet. It won't even connect even if i reset my laptop. It seems to be fine anywhere else i go but i don't use my laptop that much anywhere else. It usually says "no internet. secured." Usually i just go into wifi status then properties and change my channel width from auto to 20mhz only just because it will connect again and stay for a little. It usually doesn't bother me too much except when I game and i need connection to be stable. my driver is up to date and it's definitely my laptop because everything else can connect while my laptop can't

The Wi-Fi adapter is a Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11bgn. This laptop (Windows 8) drops the wi-fi connection seemingly at random. It will work fine for hours, then at the most inconvenient time, it will lose connection. This can happen after watching ĺ of a streaming movie or even after it has not been used for hours. Often the laptop must be rebooted to regain the connection, as the troubleshooting feature does not seem to resolve the problem. No other device in the house has this issue. The old Toshiba laptop (Windows 7), the ?Frankencomputer? made from Asus and Lenovo parts (Windows 8), the Wii system, Nintendo 2DS, and the Android smart phone all stay connected indefinitely. I am very disappointed in this HP. Most other features are good, but rendered useless when the primary functions of this laptop involve being connected to the Internet. I rolled the driver back, and that reduced the frequency of the connection drops, but has not eliminated it. What is the solution?

Helo there, About 8 months ago got a virus or malware of some sort. Contacted Verizon Fios Support team & they remotely worked on my laptop for a few days to get rid of it and restore my computer. The laptop drops the wireless connection after a few minutes now & I have to connect using a cable wire, then the connection works fine. Can you help me check my laptop to be sure the problem isn't with my device driver or something else. When I check the Wireless network Device Manager  I see Realtek RTL 8168C -P811(C) Family PIC Gigabit Ethernet NIC(NDIS 6.0)  & Terado Tunneling Pseudo Interface Any help you can offer is much appreciated, Kind regards, Shane in NYC

I have a Netgear WGR614v.5 wireless router connected to my Quest DSL internet connection. My HP Pavilion laptop has problems connecting if it is not sitting in the same room as the router. The built in wireless card (Broadcom) will not see the network at all once it is in another room and the card I bought (D-Link) will pick up a connection in various places in the house, but will drop the connection if the computer gets moved my even an inch, sometimes less. It's extremely eratic. Both cards are included in my list of approved MAC addresses, and have the correct WEP password. There are three other laptops (Dell, Tosiba, Apple) that belong to family members or friends that have no problem connecting at all. The network signal is strong throughout the house. The settings on my HP are all equivalent to the settings on the compters that work, so I'm can't figure out why I can't connect. Anyone have an idea?

Hi - I have scoured the boards but can't find a solution for this so any help will solve a big problem for me.

My desktop PC keeps dropping its wireless connection to the router. My laptop (and other devices) can connect fine and never drop. It connects fine on start-up and may allow me to browse the web for a while but then drops out and I can't understand what triggers it.

I'm running Vista Home Prem SP1 and use a Netgear Rangemax USB adapter WPN111 to connect. The driver is up to date.

Any suggestions...?
Thanks

Hi there,
My laptop was infected with Virtumonde + W32/Sality.gen + W32/YahLover.worm.gen. I used McAfee and Spybot SSD to clean up the malware. I can attach the McAfee virus logs if requested.

I'm currently facing the following issues:
A hosts.msn file that keeps coming back after multiple deletions. I searched Google and found that this could be a trace of some malware.
My network connection keeps getting disconnected. I have to physically remove the ethernet cable and plug it back in to make it work. I don't face this issue when I'm using my other laptop.

Thanks for your help.

I cannot successfully work via the wireless; it works like a rollercoaster, and the connection is excellent.  I have 2 other Acers 4 years old, using intel wireless chips, and they are connected until I disconnect.  The T400 wireless is failing, so now what?  The ThinkVantage diagnostics on this specific device run all passing. Very, very irritating.

Answer:T400 Intel wireless -excellent connection- drops/connects/ drops... horrible

I had this same problem with my T400.  The funny thing was that it only presented itself when connecting to the wireless network at work.  My home network always connected perfectly.  WPA security was used on both networks, however my home network uses AES encryption, while the work wirless was using TKIP. The work router was changed recenly and now runs on AES encryption, and everything seems to be fine now.  There have also been quite a few updates for the Realtek WLAN mini PCI express adapter installed in my machine since I last tried to connect wirelessly to the work network.  I have also uninstalled the ThinkVantage Access Connections Application since then, and used the Windows Network and Sharing Centre to set up my network connections.  I'm not sure which of these has solved the problem, but I hope this helps. My Machine Details:-T4002764-CTOWindows Vista Business  I have just re-installed Access Connections to see if I can rule that one out.  Everything works fine with it now, however it is an updated version to one I was using.  Make sure you have the latest updates for your machine from both windows Update and ThinkVantage System Update.

Hello there!having same issue with my e545 wifi card here..do not understand where the problem is and seems that many people like us are having it!in my case wifi signal work fine for few min, then signal drop drammatically for no reason!and this has happend since i got the laptop back to last summer of 2014, but never really try to fix the problem..i am not a pc geek, the only thing that make me think that the signal is dropping is when i check the wirelessconnection on the bottom right corner (win 7 ultimate) and i see that a lot of wifi connection are avaible for awhile..but then in few min all disappears leaving only few avaible, the ones with the stronger signal to be clear, andwhile this is happening internect connection drop extremely .I have tryed to update/reinstall drivers but nothing seems working..Do we really have to change card as some people are suggesting?Anyone has sorted this issue without having to change card? Also i have notice only now that Dell inspirion was using the same card, and i own that up to last year..and theproblem was the same!(low wifi signal)(clever me also for not even checking the card before the purchase )Please if anybody has sorted the problem without having to change card, give us some help!Thanx

Answer:Lenovo Edge E545 wifi connection drop

Hi Belfazul,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with Wifi signal on your ThinkPad Edge E545.

Go to Device manager ? Network adapters ? Right click on Wifi adapter and go to properties, click on Power Management tab and uncheck ?Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power?, and click OK. After closing the entire window check with restarting the system once.

If the issue still persists then boot the system in to ?Safe Mode with networking? and check it once.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

This started happening after receiving a new Modem from Talktalk.
I have 2 laptops with XP and 1 laptop with Vista connected to the same modem. The 2 XP laptop's connections are fine but the one with Vista cannot stay connected if left alone for a short period of time, it turns into Local Only and stops loading web pages until you try surfing the internet again. Any form of keeping the connection downloading something i.e. downloading content from web pages, playing an online game or downloading a file will keep the Vista connection connected until the download stops.
I have unchecked the power saving option in my Network Adapter in Device Manager, that is not an issue.
Also the internet on my iPhone is the same as the Vista connection. It plays up as well.
Thanks for any help.

Answer:Vista connection drops if left idle for 20+ seconds, XP laptop connections fine

If you haven't already solved your Vista problem - you could have a look at this. Am assuming you are talking about wireless connection.
Check that your Vista machine has the same security settings as your router - the IP addresses need to be the same.
Check to see if your wireless network adapter needs updating - go to device manager to do this
Check the TCP/IP protocol settings - look at this article
If IPv6 is checked uncheck it leaving just IPv4 checked.

Hi I have connected the microsoft wedge mouse and a bluetooth headset to my yoga. I am having the following problems 1, Mouse - at certain times the mouse icon start flashing and moving around haphazardly - as i move the mouse the mouse icon moves very irregularly as if there is interferance between transmission of laptop and mouse - this last for a few seconds and then returns back to normal2, Bluetooth audio - whilst playing a video on youtube the mouse cuts for half to 1 sec at various points. This does not happen with laptop speakers. I tried uninstalling the bluetooth drivers as it was suggested, yet this did not solve the issue. Hope this issue can be solved Ken

Answer:Lenovo Yoga Bluetooth connection problem

I started having a similar issue when I installed the latest Wifi/BT driver.  Even after I rolled back to the older driver, something had changed. I no longer am able to use my BT Creative D100 speakers as it causes my BT mouse to act up (similar symptoms you are having; but my mouse never stabilized). In addition, my USB3 Ethernet adapter no longer automatically switches back to Wifi when I unplug it (I have to manually reconnect to my wireless router). I very much regret installing the new drivers.  Before that, my Yoga 13 was very solid/stable.

Solved. I use 'wired' to access a secure intranet, and 'wireless' for general internet use in the office and elsewhere. The wireless connection kept disappearing after I had used the wired connection. Here's a typical scenario: * Boot up with wireless only - no problem.* Plug in wired network cable - it takes over and wireless is turned off, at a deep level.* Unplug wired network cable - no connections! The wireless network does not resume.* Run the Windows network trouibleshooter to discover "wireless capability is turned off".* Pressing Function F9 and clicking the Master and Individual on-off buttons does not help.* Windows network trouibleshooter offers to fix it: accept the offer, and it works again. There has been a lot of discussion about wireless connections on various models of ThinkPad and numerous solutions offered and I've tried most of them. Finally I got to uninstall ThinkVantage Access Connections and now everything works as expected. In fact it is possible to have both networks active at the same time (for example in different browsers). Conclusion: Wired and wireless don't mix well in ThinkVantage Access Connections, so just uninstall it.

I noticed one day that the edges of my laptop had been chipped. I don't use the laptop in any extreme manner, all I do is put it in my backpack and take it out. I don't remember knocking it against anything, I am extremely careful. But there are marks on the edges, it's not a deep dent, but more like if a bit of an eggshell fell off a hardboiled egg leaving a flat crack behind or as if paint had chipped off. Does the cover dent very easily? Is this normal or am I the only one who has this? I can upload a picture of requested. Does bending the laptop cause the surface to crack? I may have bent it in my backpack, which caused the laptop to warp, so I had to bend it back so it sat evenly on the flat surface.

I recently bought a new HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC and have been experiencing problems when connecting to my personal wireless network. It seems that whenever I'm downloading anything or using the connection extensively I'll lose internet connection and the wireless icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen will show an orange star to indicate that connections are available. However if I go to available networks I can immediately reconnect to the network I was on.

I have other notebooks that run on XP that do not have this issue and use the connection without a problem. Also when I connect my notebook directly to my belkin router via Ethernet cable the connection has issues.

I'm running my computer on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and my Wireless adapter is an Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n Wifi adapter which appears to have up to date drivers.

Hopefully someone can help. Thanks!

Answer:Wireless connection drops out with Windows 7

I'm using an Acer Aspire one netbook, with a wireless connection. I get the same issue, having to manually reconnect the connection. I typically have 4 out of 5 bars, and have tried to refresh while watching my connection monitors. No matter what, it seems I have to close down IE and restart it. I have yet to get the same issue with my other web browsers, but I do not use them too often. I'm assuming it's related to microsofts wireless connection systems, either in the browser or the O.S. I will try to scour throught the forum for more related threads and post you the links. Somehow I will get this thing figured out. Does this happen to you while your in your browser only? If so, what browser are you using?

Hi, I am using Windows 8.1 and have run into internet connection issues for the last few months.  This happens initially when I start my computer, but also my computer randomly disconnects (it might stay connected for hours, other times it disconnects in twenty minutes).  Only my wired desktop disconnects - my wireless devises have not experienced the issue.  To regain internet access, I need to unplug my modem/router, wait a few seconds and plug it back in.

I have tried different ethernet cables and ports in the Comcast modem/router.  I have also tried other things to troubleshoot the issue:

- Used the Windows "Troubleshoot Problems" option
- Ran NCPA.CPL - disabled then enabled the network connection
- Tried IPCONFIG / RELEASE - then RENEW
- Ran the Microsoft NetShell utility

Thank you in advance,

Jared

Vaio laptop running winxp DLINK DWL 650+ connecting to DLINK G604 router. Has been working perfectly for over a month (card is a month old) vaio is set up for windows to connect to the network rather than the dlink utility. address of 192.168.1.5 has been assigned to the vaio as per the ipconfig screen. Have statically assigned this in the setup of the router on 192.168.1.1 Everything runs fine, Then all of a sudden I will get a message bubble stating windows cannot detect network. sometimes if I remove & replace the card it will sometimes reconnect, other times even a reboot will not work and I just have to be patient and after no specific time it will connect. This is getting annoying now and I can't see any obvious explanation. The only change I have made is an update to IE 7.

Answer:Wireless connection randomly drops after Windows 7...

The only advice I can give you is to try other drivers for your model and see if one works. You can also search using this method:http://driverzone.com/node/182even if the driver you find is for different brands, it's worth trying.

Hi Everyone. Two days ago I finally upgraded my Dell Inspirion E1505 Windows XP SP3 to Windows 7 Ultimate (thanks mydigitallife) for the upgrading instructions. But now I'm having a major problem with Windows 7.

Everything runs great except for my DSL connection. Whether I have my comp connected directly to the DSL modem now or through my router, the internet connection drops randomly every 10 minutes or so sometimes (seems to happen whether I'm downloading a file, or just browsing webpages).

But all this morning I was able to use my comp just fine without any internet disconnections, which seems very strange.

I didn't have a problem with my internet disconnecting on me when I ran XP so I believe it might have something to do with how Windows 7 behaves with my comp's hardware. I upgraded to the latest network drivers for Broadcom 440x 10/100 v. 4.60.0.1 to try to see if that would solve the problem, but no go.

Anyone have any advice on what could be the underlying issue? Thanks!

Answer:Windows 7 Randomly Drops Internet Connection

You need proper drivers for your network adapter.

Sympton:
When I'm disconnected, I lose all connectivity both to the internet and on the local lan, so pinging (for example) Google will time out, but also pinging 192.168.1.1 (the router's lan ip address) will also time out

Fix :
Start -> dev manager -> network adapter. Double click, open her up and then under "advanced", take a look at "Link Speed & Duplex".

If this is set to auto-negotiation, try re-setting it to 10 or 100mbps Full Duplex, re-start your computer.

It's the network driver that costs me hours of hunting & searching.
MOTHERBOARD : ASUS IPIBL-LB
Integrated LAN : Realtek 8111C 10/100/1000 Mb/s (Gigabit Ethernet)

In a nutshell, my Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit) PC intermittently drops it's internet connection. Why?

Background: My PC is wired to my ADSL modem/router which is directly connected to the phone line. I also have wireless connectivity turned on within the router for a laptop to connect wirelessly.

Every few hours or so, when using my PC, I find I cannot access the internet and pages will not load. Eventually, Windows7 will update the network icon in the task-tray to show the exclamation mark symbol on the network icon. Opening up the Network And Sharing Centre will show the red cross between the "Multiple Networks" and "The Internet".

I'm running Sun's VirtualBox on this machine and that creates a Network connection for itself. This doesn't seem to affect the intermittent dropping (i.e. the intermittent drops occur whether the VirtualBox connection is in use or not), and indeed, I have VirtualBox installed on two other machines (one Windows XP and the other Vista Home Premium (32bit)) and these operate with no issues.

When the connection does drop, I cannot access any internet pages, nor can I access the router's web admin page at http://192.168.1.1/, so I'm assuming I've lost all local LAN access too.

It's definitely not the router (or the internet connection itself) as my laptop, using the wireless connection (and running Vista Home Premium) continues to be able to access the internet (and the router's web admin pages) just fine.

I am having an issue with windows 7 when it come out of sleep/hibernation mode. whenever it wakes up it wont connect to the internet through wireless or wired network it was connected too. it says that i am connected to the network but with limited connectivity. the only way i have been able to reconnect is by either restarting or running the command line and releasing and then renewing my ip connection several times. I have had this same problem on every network i have been on so i dont think it is the hardware on that end. i have tried updating my nic card through device manager but it says everything is up to date. so do yall have any suggestions?

Answer:Windows 7 drops internet connection after hybernation

If anybody is interested - disabling sleep mode does keep the connection active.† At least it works when you want to use it.....

Hi, I'm having this problem with my windows 7 OS Lenovo Ideapad Y450 laptop.
when i try to connect to the internet at home, it connects and before i could go into the internet browser, it drops again. this continues to happen for many times until i couldnt do anything with it.
what's the irony is that i have other laptops (vista OS) at home running with no problems , and when i am in school, my Lenovo laptop connects perfectly. no signs of dropping of connection at all.

Answer:Windows 7 connection drops frequently for no reason

get this free program called inSSIDer and run it on the laptop. Walk around your place and see where the drop it starts and ends. Then you need to buy a Repeater and place that in the dead drop zone. The repeater is 100% wireless no need for hard-wire cable from the router to it.

In the meantime make sure your router is reset and also have the latest firmware for it.

Hey All, I haven't used my Blue Tooth technology on my new x61 yet and now need to use it.  Problem is that I cannot find that adaptor anywhere in the software stuff.  I think that it is possible that my PC was shipped without an adapter.  Where can I check to see is the adapter is installed (prefereably using software) ?   Kyle-

I am having problems with my new Lenovo G500S Touch with Windows 8 where it drops my wireless connection.  I have other laptops (Windows 7 and 8) and these are all fine.  I have worked with Lenovo support since 8/7 with no resolution and was sent to Advanced Support and now they expect me to pay for assistance!!! They say it's a software issue but have not proven it's a software issue.    I have updated the driversI have made sure all of the Power Options are set to MaximumI have gone through numerous posts on Wireless Connectivity issue and Windows 8 to no avail. Any assistance from this group would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

Answer:Lenovo G500S Touch (WIndows 8) Drops Wireless

hi mmckenerick,

Welcome to the Forums.

Your issue might be similar to this thread.

If you have already updated the wifi drivers, booted in Safe mode with networking and yet to no avail, It's possible that the wi-fi cable connectors are loose and causes the wifi signal to drop.

Try to:
1. Turn the computer OFF and remove the AC adapter and battery.
2. Re-seat the wi-fi cable connectors (see page 44 of the hardware maintenance manual).
3. Re-insert the AC adapter and battery, then the computer ON, boot into Windows and observe the wi-fi connection.

Let me know your findings

Regards

Some updates to the laptop downloaded yesterday and I can no longer connect via Bluetooth. Both Microsoft and Acer want to charge large amounts of money for a fix and I can't afford it; any suggestions?

Hi Friends,I am using Nokia 6275 and trying to connect My Lenovo LAPTOP E7761-4EQ-Y500 via Bluetooth. My LAPTOP is able to search this mobile and also added it but after sometime My mobile is showing that My PC got disconnected. Though My Laptop is showing that Mobile is still connected, I am not able to transfer file from My LAPTOP to Mobile. Bluetooth in my mobile is working fine as I checked with other bluetooth compatible divices.I am trying to connect using some passcode, but still same problem is there.I thought there might be some problems in bluetooth driver update,so uninstalled the bluetooth driver and trying to install a new driver which I downloaded from lenovo website. But that also I m not able to re-install as it was trying to copy the setup files in some Temp folder and was not able to execute from there? Also, the bluetooth icon is still showing in my startup programs, so does it mean that un-installation was incomplete or improper? Can someone help me on this?--regardsRajesh

I`ve tried all ways to connect my Sony Erickson P610 to my Advent laptop with no success.

I have an identical phone to when I was able to connect b4 I lost it.
I would have expected to be able to connect with no hassle but to no avail.
The laptop recognises my phone and vice versa.
The message when trying to connect says "there was a hardware failure in the modem or other device".and......."Could not detect modem,it may not be in use, turned off,or not installed properly"

I`ve tested the modem and it`s working properly so I wonder if anyone can help.
God bless for now,

When I first boot up my (vista) laptop, wireless connectivity works fine but will then drop after a random amount of time. (becomes Limited connectivity)

Try to reconnect but then windows will not find my wireless network even though router (ZyXEL P660 HW T1) says WLAN is working fine.

Have tried with security disabled but no difference.

Any help much appreciated.

Hello

My first post in this forum, and already a tough one !

I'm having problems with my Atheros AR9271 Network wireless adapter.

Ok let's begin !

So I had W7 Home premium and decided to upgrade to 8. the whole upgrade went like a charm, I kept all my files and programs, and I had the new OS in less than 30 minutes. I had no wifi though, but after a wired connection to my modem, windows managed to find the proper driver as "Atheros AR9271". This was not my network adapter brand, [which is Multilaser, a brazilian brand, I believe inside the usb adapter is actually a atheros hardware] but it was working so I didn't bother...

After a couple days my SSD drive died [Damn you OCZ !] and I had to use a different HDD, I had to make a clean install this time. Again no wifi, but windows 8 managed to find the same Atheros AR9271, using a wired connection.

But now is the trick part, I have a wifi connection for just under a minute, and then the connection drops. The weirdest thing is, first my wifi network disappears, but i can see my neighbours networks, and after a few minutes all networks are gone.

All the hardware is the same, the only thing is between the upgrade and the clean install I updated the bios.

To sum up !

UPGRADE 7 to 8 : Installed in a 64Gb OCZ SSD; Kept files and software; No Wifi; windows found AR9271 - Steady connection

Clean W8 install :Installed in a 320Gb Samsung HDD; No wifi; windows found AR9271 - Connection drops after a minute, s... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 intermittently drops wired internet/lan connection.

Hi,

If the issue persists, please also try the following:

1.    Update your motherboard (chipset) driver.

2.    Bypass the router and connect directly to the modem and see how it works.

3.    Disable Saving Power function of the wireless NIC:
=============================
1)    Click Start, right click on Computer and choose Properties.
2)    Click Device Manager.
3)    Navigate to the NIC, right click on it and choose Properties.
4)    Go to Power Management tab.
5)    Please uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
6)    Restart the computer and check if it works.

Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

Speed tests (speedtest.net, speakeasy.net) are so low (grade F: .57 d/l, .32 u/l or 8% of national average). I cannot get video on internet (cnn.com/live requires 700 mbps that I used to be able to get) or videos are buffering so bad I canít watch them, plus the middle light turns red, loses connection at least 5 times a day. The website says to wait for live streaming, but just stops, with no message. Am unable do my work without interruption. I have checked for driver updates; they are fine. I have run anti-virus an malware programs. AT&T tech said I need to pay for better connections (have DSL express tier). I am already paying too much. I have wireless and the router is @2 feet from my laptop. I have Kindle on wireless as well. Who can help me? Thanks for any help.

i have a laptop with wireless connection to my home lan.
all computers including laptop are running windows xp.
the problem is that laptop periodically looses connection and then establishes it again. I know why this happening. Apparently windows trying from time to time to search for wireless networks with better connection and while it doing that it drops previous connection and reconnects again.

I guess it is usefull when there are many wap's around but not when there is only one and there is no point in trying to find others.

I hoped that may be someone can tell me how can i change/tweak this default windows behaviour.
(i looked through various networking dialog boxes but didn't find anything related.)

thanks
