Lenovo Edge 15, suddenly powered off and not turning back on

Question: Lenovo Edge 15, suddenly powered off and not turning back on

Hey so I have had this computer for about 3 months. It has worked perfectly fine the whole time. I had a similar model, U530, before this that worked great (it broke because of an accident on my part) as well. However, today I was watching the internet and it looked like the monitor quickly shut off for a second. I moved the screen forward slightly after it had come back on and the computer suddenly shut off. It will not come back on. When it is only using the battery the power button will not light up. When I plug in the power adapter, the power button will light up and turn off every second or so, but nothing else happens, no fan, no hard drive spinning etc... Is there any other way to diagnose this? I tried the manual but there was no information on light patterns or any precautions if it will not turn on. I've tried turning unplugging the battery and holding down the power button, but to no avail...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo Edge 15, suddenly powered off and not turning back on

I just ran into this exact issue on my U530 Touch. I was just sitting there using it, unplugged, but the battery not about to die, and it just turns off randomly. When I try to turn it on, the power button lights up for a split second in response to me touching it, but that's all that happens. I've tried both plugged in and not and neither cause much of a reaction. Any ideas?

Very strange issue here is happening here. When the laptop T410s is always off before it's docked, so once it's docked I press the power button and no image shows up on the external monitor.  I then open the lid of the T410s, press the power button on the laptop, quickly close the lid and it comes up.  I've tried different docking stations, power supplies and the issue still persisted.  I then tried another Lenovo T410 and it boots fine. Here's the kicker... When the T410s is not powered down while docked and only logged off, then undocked, and then powered down. When it's reseated into the dock and powered up it works fine. It then made me believe there was a Docking profile issue. I've removed the docking profiles and recreated them, since it that didn't work; I even set XP to allow us to manually choose whether it's docked or undocked.  This did not work. Is anyone else experiencing this or have the expertise on this subject?

Answer:If laptop is powered off on dock, will not display image when powered back on.

I have a T410s with 2 external monitors that I always used. 1x24inch LCD connected using VGA to VGA and 1x26inch LCD connected using displayport to HDMI. It used to be fine until some intel grapics driver update a while back. So I come to believe is the driver fault and/or the internal graphic card lack of capacity. My solution is to setup the monitors the way I like is to change the BIOS to boot up from displayport, and when successful going into the desktop then disable the laptop LCD. Then connect the 2nd LCD, extend the desktop and setup the resolution. From that point on I must always boot up with VGA disconnect then after into desktop, plug in the VGA cable and it will show up fine. If I forget and left the displayport + VGA connected when I bootup, it will fail and I have to do the initial setup again. So something with the displayport/graphic card/graphic memory is making the T410s 'forget' or discard the displayport. or the 1900x1200 resolutions of 2x monitors overwhelm the graphics card memory and it had to made a choice or give up. Most of the time it just goes blank or flash on/off In your case, if you only have 1x external monitor you can just change the BIOS to bootup screen in VGA/Displayport/Dock and when in the dsektop, set to duplicate mode for both screens. Then download this utility called ultramon and use it to setup the extended display setting to your liking, save the profile on the desktop/startup folder. When your T410s bootup, int... Read more

I've had a Lenovo Ideapad Y40-70 for a month or so now and, although it worked this morning, it suddenly stopped turning on. When I push the power button, the light on the power button, the battery light, and the power light will come on white for a few seconds, and then nothing. It won't even boot to BIOS. I had the Lenovo logo show up for a fraction of a second like twice, but that was about it. I tried opening it up and taking out/putting back in the battery, and that didn't work. Nor did letting it sit and charge for a few hours as was recommended on another website.

Edit: I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. Correct me if I'm in the wrong board.

Is that correct?

Did you buy it brand new a month or so ago, or is it a second-hand purchase from elsewhere?

My touchscreen suddenly stopped functioning.  No known update recently - have been running Windows 10 for months now with no problem.  When I went into my device manager, I noticed that the "HID-compliant touchscreen" under the Human Interface Devices dropdown is hidden. When I find it by showing hidden devices, there are no drivers there for it (the box just says that "no driver files are required or have been loaded for this device"), so something must have removed it. Any idea how to get those drivers back so that my touchscreen will function again?  It's like my PC doesn't recognize that my display should be touchscreen capable.  I don't even have a calibrate

Hello, I was playing a Steam game last night and all of a sudden without warning the keyboard suddenly stops working.  At first I thought it was the game so I randomly clicked around and nothing worked. I was somehow able to exit the game but the keyboard has stopped working completely. Meaning the Capslock light doesn't turn on, the numlock light doens't turn on either. I have a Windows 8.1 just to let you know.  I have tried the following. 1. Going into control panel and turning off the filter keys and toggle keys. Didn't work. 2. Going into Device Manager and uninstalling the keyboard and re-installing. Didn't work. 3. Went into Registry and messed with the UpperFiler like they told me. Didn't work.  The only thing left is a factory reset then??  I had to buy a USB keyboard and it's pretty annoying.  I was wondering if I accidentally locked the keyboard?? I don't know what else is there.  Are there any other solutions? Please let me know. Thanks.

Answer:Lenovo Edge 15 here, keyboard suddenly stopped working

Hi BassFan ,

Welcome to the Community.

Well you have done the WIndows troubleshooting pretty well , both on registry and sticky keys.  External keyboard working , and may also be working with windows onscreen keyboard too.

I would hold up the factory reset for now, knowing that it would erase everything n your harddrive and that you would need to reinstall and download all your applications and games again.

Before you decide on that , best to check if that keyboard is physically broken or not.

Turn off the pc , use Novo button (page 7 of your manual ) to turn on , Try going to the BIOS and see if the arrow keys would work , time and date to test the number keys , security password for the letters ( just for testing, don't save password).
Just press the power button to turn off , and leave the BIOS or exit without saving on Exit tab .
If internal keyboard keys works on the BIOS then you can try system restore or even factory reset,
Loading BIOS Default can also refresh the settings . (exit tab choices or F9 load defaults / F10 to save and exit)

Your hardware manual can show step to reseat  keyboard if you a tech but if you have an active warrantythen best to use it .
Else check your warranty and call in tech support for repair.
Hope every goes well . Have us updated here too so that we can share it among the community.

Hi I'd like to get some help.  My Lenovo Edge (purchased in Nov 2015) does not come back from sleep mode and I have to restart it - loosing all work.  This just started happening recently - since a day or so.  It's very inconvinient as I have to carry an open laptop from one meeting to another. Previously, I'd close the lid (in between meetings) and open it and would get the log on screen.  Now the light on number and Caps lock stays on...and the computer keeps humming, but the logon screen does not come up and it stays black.  I have to hold the power button down continuously and when it shuts down, then I have to restart (or start) as all apps have closed, including signing on the WIFI and  VPN also.  Please help!

Answer:My Lenovo Edge 2 wont' come back from sleep

I had the exact same problem with my new Lenovo Edge 2.  The retailer correctly determined that it was a hardware problem and sent in the laptop to be repaired.  It came back in about a week and a half.  According to the manufacturer, they had to change the motherboard (and other parts attached to it, including the graphics card).  Now it wakes up from sleep but has another - more serious - problem.  It would not get started..  It just repeatedly restarts - restart boot loop.  I am taking my laptop again to them for another round of repairs.  It's only been a month since I bought it, and Lenovo has already given me enough headache, with enough time wasted, futile efforts expended, and insecurity suffered from potential data loss that can occur during the repairs (I cannot back up the data because the system would not start!!).  I am sick and tired of Lenovo and will hate it for the rest of my life!!!  Of course, I am not buying another Lenovo ever.  I am seriously considering tossing this piece of junk (for which I paid $700) and getting another laptop (because they would not get me a new one - they will just keep on repairing it until the one year warranty period is over), but I will give them another try...

My Lenovo B50-30 suddenly shut down when I was watching a 1080p video. At first I thought it overheated so I left it a while but when I came back to it, it won't turn on. I followed the instructions from online, like taking out the battery, pressing the power button 10 times, holding it down for 30s, removing and putting the ram back in and none of the steps worked. When I plug the power adapter back in, there is no charging light. Does anybody know if it could be fixed or what the fault is? My laptop is over 2 years old so out of warranty and I have lots of data that's now lost at the moment.

Greetings, Today I was playing a game called Overwatch and I noticed that my laptop was getting pretty hot. This had happened before so I didn't think much of it. Then, suddenly, my screen went black and there was no signs of life for the laptop, even when it was plugged into the AC adapter. I let it cool down for a little while and upon plugging the AC adapter back in, i noticed that the power brick was making a ticking noise. I suspect that either the laptop just overheated or there was some sort of power surge to the computer, seeing as it wont turn back on. Help me please?  Thanks

Hello. I encountered an odd problem yesterday, and I was hoping I could get some help as to why. I had turned on my computer, and a few seconds after, the computer had turned off on its own. I turned it on again, and the computer powered up, but there was no activity; no display, and the light on the power button also would not go on. Also, the "thinking light" (as I seem to not remember what it's called) turns on and stays solid. My computer has no PC speaker, so I'm unable to hear any beeping (if there would be any). I was able to determine that the RAM is not the problem (swapping, changing ram did not change anything). I'm in the process of testing other parts, but I was hoping that someone with some experience with similar problems could help me out. Thank you very much.

Answer:Computer Powered down after turning on, now there is no response

You need to post your system component specs. Motherboard; EXACT make, model and revision (if applicable). Processor; EXACT make, model and stepping. Memory; EXACT make and model. Graphics Card (if installed); EXACT make and model. Power Supply; EXACT make and model. Provide links to the components.

If the machine is a mass produced machine such as Dell, Gateway, HP, etc. post the EXACT make and model as there may be known problems with certain makes and models.

No one can diagnose a problem without knowing the EXACT components you used in the build or the EXACT make and model of a mass produced machine.

Hi,This is not the official HP technical support.HP maintains no official presence here. All those who are helping others here arr end users like you.Is the laptop powering on with battery alone?I'm suspecting a power connector/motherboard issue. What I could suggest you is to get a another working compatible AC adapter and try again while battery removed. See if it is powering on.If yes, try same with battery inserted. As far as I'm aware, if you're within warranty, only HP USA can help you replace the part or repair it.RegardsVisruth

My computer suddenly powered down (instantly and completely) and after a few presses of the power button (it would start to come on and then shut back off) and shutting the psu off and then back on I got it up and going again, Although the blue power light on the power button no longer glowed like it used to after this it kept on working for a month before it did it again tonight, only now I cant get it to come back on for more than about 20 seconds and most of the time less than that before it suddenly shuts down again.

I've swapped power buttons, re-seated all components and left everything unplugged from the PC, as well as checked the PSU and pulled out and moved around ram and vid cards with no luck. All things are pointing me to the mobo but I've never seen one fail like this one has so I thought someone else here might have an extra idea before I try to buy a new motherboard that runs all the old crap I've got in this PC.

Thanks for any help and ideas guys.

We have not been able to get it going again since.  Please advise on how to resolve this issue. The charge indication light is coming on where the adpater plugs in, but nothing is registering to the computer. Please please advise. Thank you!

Hello @Tiffany58, Welcome, and thank you for posting on the HP Forums! I have read your post and understand that your HP G62-367DX is not powering on. This could be related to either a hardware or BIOS issue. Did the notebook shut down the second you plugged it into the projector?what color is the light on the notebook where the AC adapter plugs in?Is there any light on the Caps lock or Num lock keys?Does the power button light turn on at all? I know you have done it before, but please perform another hard reset. Once that is complete, try following these power-up failure documents: HP Notebook PCs - Using and Testing the AC Power AdapterHP Notebook PCs - Computer Does Not Start (Windows 10) I look forward to the results.

My other half and son were using the computer yesterday, and then left it on to do some other things, upon returning to the laptop noticed that the power button was solid blue (should be flashing orange when in standby mode), with nothing on the screen, moved the mouse with nothing happening as well as CTRL+ALT+DELETE.

Powered computer down by holding the on/off button for 5 seconds, restarted but noticed that I could hear the DVD drive power up but that is where it stops/hangs, nothing comes on the screen. Have done this numerous times, as well as removing the battery and starting with just mains power on?

Can anyone help with what might be going on ??

Here is the issue, when my computer goes to sleep after it's on for a while when I move the mouse to get the screen back up it shows the backround no icons or anything to click.
Same if I turn it off and turn it back on. I have to turn it off and on many times then go to safe mode and shut down then turn it on again for it to work. Just now I had to turn it on/off 4 times for it to show the icons and task bar. Usually it is left blank with nothing to click having no choice but to turn it off.
Norton says no viruses.
My computer is HP with windows 7. I bought it in 2011.
This problem has been happening for a long time. Please help.

While using the computer, it suddenly powered down for no reason and now will not power up. No lights, fans, diagnostic LEDs, nothing. Tried a different power brick/cord but same result. Tested power cord with multimeter and it is outputting 19.5 vdc as it should. Purchased new March 2016. Power brick has a steady green light when connected to power but not the computer, starts blinking when plugged in to computer.

Please help.

Hello,

I have been using a Toshiba Satellite A505 here in Japan for the past 2 years and I have not encountered any major problem before. the OS is the packaged Windows Vista Home Premium.

In the past month however, I noticed that there have been increasing number of times when the system will slowdown to almost a halt. Some symptoms include choppy video with crackling audio, intermittently not responding web browsers, and unplayable games due to slowness that I can play normally before like CoD Blackops and MoH2010...

My annoyance turned to alarm this morning, when my system just suddenly powered down...so, I hope somebody can help...

I attach here a zip of files generated by MSInfo, Autoruns, and HiJackThis..I continuously run SpyBot S&D Resident and Avast. Avast has not reported anything lately and my last Spybot scanned turned out some minor web cookies which I have already removed. I have not been able to update myself on the processes and services vital in running Vista, but i think that those running services from Toshiba is ok for me...

Thank you for any assistance/suggestion...

Hi,I recently upgraded my PC and all was working fine for over a day! Then my PC powered off for no reason and will not power back up at all. Now nothing happens when I press the power button. The bit I don't understand is my memory drive that is plugged into the USB port is still powered up and the LAN lights on the back of the motherboard are still lit. On the otherhand the power LED on the front of the PC, which was always lit even when the PC was switched off has gone out! At first I thought my PSU must have lost one of the rails, maybe 12Volts was down and the 5V was still powering the LEDs but now I'm not sure if the motherboard has gone pop.I've checked all the connections inside and even took the upgrade out (I went from one 256Mb PC2100 to two 512Mb PC3200 Memory) but it still won't power up.Has anyone seen this before or has any ideas what's going on.Thanks in advance.

Hi forum,

A couple of weeks ago, my Dell 1545 Inspiron would only have a blank back light only screen when powered on. On the third day, I took it to the Geek Squad. He hit the power button and what do ya know, it came on fine. Huh?
Well, now it's doing it again. I called the Geek Squad, and they said it sounds like a loop problem - bring it in.
Can you tell me what that is and why it is and if I can fix it myself? I'd like to save my $ and do it myself since I currently have no job.

Thanks so much,

Hello,

System Specs:

Motherboard - P5N-D
CPU - E6700
Memory - 2x2GB Corsair XMS2
Video Card - Radeon HD 5870
PSU - Thermaltake 750W

Problem:

Computer powered off while in the middle of me using it. Tried to power back on, but nothing happens when the power button is pressed. Tried unplugging the power supply and back in, still would not power on.

Troubleshooting:

Hooked up my PSU to a PSU tester I have = Good

Replaced Motherboard = no change (indicator light is on, on the motherboard)

Checked power switch = Good

I also tried taking out my video card, left one stick of ram in, and still nothing.

----------

The only thing i haven't checked is my CPU, I have just ordered the E8400 in hopes this will fix my problem, but I was hoping to get a little feed back on my situation as I have come up empty when searching online for a simlar problem.

I appreciate any feedback I can get!

Thank you!

Hi, I'm building my first custom built PC and I finished yesterday and everything seemed to be working great. That is, until this morning when I decided to update the BIOS. The reason I did this is because I read on the Internet that for my particular board (an MSI z97-Gaming 5 motherboard), that it was a good idea to update it. So I did it, and then my computer started endlessly restarting itself after one second on it being turned on.

I've tried:
Reseating the CMOS battery
Reseating the motherboard
Connecting the motherboard together outside the case
Powering the motherboard with the bare essentials
Replacing the power supply

The interesting thing was, I also replaced the power supply, after not getting a full reading on a power supply tester. The motherboard originally didn't fully power on again, but I took it out of the case and it worked, so I put it back in the case but it didn't work again. So I took it out of the case and it didn't work anymore. So I don't know what to do anymore. I've narrowed it down to two options, either it's the CPU or I bricked the motherboard. Anyone out here have any ideas?

Answer:Computer turning on for one second and then turning off and back on again

Any beeps before it drops off? My guess is bricked the motherboard. Trying to Google around and see if there is a solution but you may have to RMA the board. Did anything go wrong with the BIOS flash? Did it ever boot at all after you did the flash or did it stop working as soon as you did it?

Hello.

I thought I had my computer fixed untill this morning when I woke up,

I turned the monitor off last night with my ATI remote wonder before I went to sleep.
When I woke up I turned on my monitor but it wouldnt display anything.

I have the latest drivers for the remote and my Graphics card (Gigabyte ATI radeon 9600XT) and my harddrive was recently formated and windows installed so I dont know what is wrong.

It doesnt look like my computer has crashed since there are no system messages as to why the monitor wouldnt display.

Could this be a problem with my graphics card? maybe not enough power from the PSU to it? I allready know my PSU sucks and have orderd a new one from Antec.

Thanks

Answer:Displaying turning off, not turning back on

What type of computer are you talking about, Laptop or Desktop computer? If it's a Desktop computer, shut off the computer, unplug the power cable, open the case and check, whether the CPU fan is clean of dust and the heat sink of the CPU is clean of dust.Btw.: CPU (Central Processing Unit) means the processor on your mainboard inside your computer, not the computer itself.Click Here on HowTo ask good Question to get best HelpLet us know, if the problem is solved !!!

My Edge E40 (product ID 0578DTC) was working fine until one morning when i turned it on, the display was poor showing colour streaks of mixed purple blue, yellow. I could manage to use the laptop but the poor image quality on lcd made working difficult. Whenever i connected the laptop to external display the image quality was perfect. I took the laptop apart assuming the problem was with the graphics card. I never worked on the board coz its layout was new to me so i carefully assembled the laptop. When i tried to switch on the laptop i does not display anymore. All it does is whenever i try to turn it on, the power light just blinks once only, the fan only spins when the power light blinks then stops. What could be the problem?

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E40 not turning on

It might be an issue with your System board, however you can just perform the below mentioned steps in order to resolve the issue.
1. Kindly remove the battery and power adapter from the system.
2. Now, press the power button continuously for 35 seconds.
3. Refix the battery and try to turn on the system with only battery mode.
4. If the system do not start then please remove the battery and then connect the power adapter to your system and try to turn on the system.
Please note, if your system in still under warranty then kindly get in touch with the support centre.

Regards,
Harish

This laptop will only charge if Windows is Shut Down and the cord is connected. We have had sporadic success disabling and/or uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery from the Device Manager, but this only works for a short time, and then the issue returns.  We have updated BIOS Update for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Windows 8 (64-bit), Windows 8.1 (64-bit), Windows 10 (64-bit) - Notebook Version: 9ECN43WW(V3.03) from here:http://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Lenovo-Y-Series-laptops/Y50-70-Noteboo...We also tried installing Advanced Configuration and Power Management Interface (ACPI) Driver for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit) ..., but it does not seem to do anything. We have tried another power supply that is known to be working, and it has the same result. Operating System is Windows 10 (64-bit)

About a year ago, my Lenovo Thinkpad T500 was overheating constantly and would shut off during gameplay. Eventually, one day it stopped coming back on.I would turn it on, the lights would flicker and it wouldn't come back on. Here's a video of the light display: http://vimeo.com/89316779I've since bought a new laptop, however I miss using this laptop and hope to fix it.Now, this year, when plugged in, or battery inserted, the lights come on without me pressing the power button. They also come on, on the DVD drive. There's also a sound from the DVD drive, so maybe it is from the drive powering on, and then it shuts off. Then does this again, in an infinte loop. I don't know if it is even charging as it keeps flickering on and off. I've tried unplugging the CMOS battery, removing the RAM (got no beep) and I am just confused.I also tried the static discharge trick I've read about here, in the forums.Apparently when I hold down the power button, the loop stops and just the light of the adapter remains on. So stumped. Can anyone offer any help? It'd be much appreciated.

Good afternoon, I have had my lenovo for around 2 years and until now it has been perfect. My problem is that when I turn it on, it just stays as a black screen. The white lights stay on, I hear the system boot up but there is nothing going on from that point. I have ensured the ram is in, checked with a vga cable for output (none) and when the computer did once come on I started a system reset to see if returning to factory settings would help. It did not. Has anyone else had this issue or know of a fix that can be applied. Many thanks for your time.

Hello folks..  Absolutely devestated, the Q190 our family loves and has used for over a year straight suddenly will no longer boot up as of today. Turned it on this morning, and noticed nothing was being outputted to the display.  Not even the BIOS information or bootup screen before windows, literally zero output.  Turning the system on, we can hear the fans if we put it up to our ear, but again no HDMI output or anything. The HDD LED is steadily flashing in a perfect sequence, every second, it's just pulsing.  I'm guessing this might be some kind of error code or POST error of some sort?  But as I said, the unit never outputs anything on the display so I don't have a clue what could be causing this. It has to be more than a simple HDD failure because surely that wouldn't stop the unit from starting up altogether? Has anybody heard of anything like this before? Thanks in advance for ANY help, Lenovo tech support says my warranty period ended a few months ago and won't even diagnose it without paying $100, PLUS whatever additional fees are required for repair.  Would much rather try and fix this on my own if possible. Thanks again Cheers from Toronto

Hi, I was browsing the internet looking for some advice and noticed this forum. Maybe someone could help me.I bought my father an emachines E520 laptop nearly 2 years ago now. It runs on vista home basic with service pack 2.It started shutting itself down suddenly, I checked the tempreture and it was running at 79 degrees C. So I cleaned all the dust out of the fan and surrounding area, which turned out to be a nightmare of a job as there was no access to the fan from underneath and I had to go under the motherboard......a place I don't like to be if I can help it!Anyway I removed a substantial amount of dust and fluff, turned the laptop back on and it turned it'self off after about 10 minutes. Before I played with it, it was only turning off now and again after a few hours of use, now it is turning off after a few minutes of use.Aaaarrgh what have I done? Can anyone help me please? Many Thanks

Answer:emachines laptop turning off suddenly

If you have a fan that is on its way out it could be shutting itself down. The cooling fans in computers these days have tach's in them that send pulses and by pulse frequency you know the speed of the fan in RPM's, if the motherboard senses a loss of this signal it will shut itself down to protect itself. The other possibility you are facing is where the thermal compound between the CPU and the heatsink is dried up and no longer a good heat conductor to sink the heat away from the CPU and so the motherboard senses the CPU temp going into the critical and shutting itself down. For this type of problem there is no easy fix. You are most likely facing replacing a fan that isnt functioning properly or removing the heatsink, removing the old heatsink compound with q-tips, and then applying new thermal compound such as arctic silver and reattaching the heatsink to create a better thermal bond.Worst case scenario of an overheated system is microfractures in the traces internally to the CPU where the traces are connected until you reach a specific temperature at which the traces microfracture pulls away creating a gap in which electrons can not flow, and causing usually a blue screen or a shutdown condition.Wish you the best of luck diagnosing..if you have any further questions feel free to ask  =)

My PC acting weird for last two days. While using it is suddenly turning off. Its not shutting down but just powering off. Sometime it automatically restarts otherwise it just stays off.
If it stays off I cannot start from CPU. I have to turn off UPS then turn it back on before the power button in CPU works.

I had some monitoring utility installed (Nvidia system monitor and Core temp) and both show the CPU, Graphics card and MB temp are in range of 40-60 when this happens.

This happened to me once when I was viewing videos full screen. Other when I was browsing ( I was using Mozilla and with lot of addons, sometimes it consumes a lot of memory and processor.)

I also checked the CPU fans and case fans and they are working.

Answer:Computer suddenly turning off while running.

Sounds like a failing UPS. Try disconnecting the PC from the UPS and plug it straight into a wall outlet or a simple power strip and verify if the same symptoms still occur.

Lenovo Notebook E540 battery drains when it is not powered on. My colleague said that there is a cloud connection being connected during power off and it consumes power. Is that possible? Any resolution?

Answer:Lenovo notebook E540 Battery drains when it is not powered on

Hi Kingchechan,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As far as I know only the Windows update will be accessing to the server, or might be any other 3rd party cloud related application, which might be accessing to the cloud server.

Did you check disabling USB always on in BIOS & Wake On Lan from Windows AND BIOS

Check running command powercfg /devicequery wake_armed to see if any device is programmed to power on the laptop might be this is consuming battery power.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Woke up one morning after shutting down the computer for the night, and it wouldn't start. Everything is still plugged in, the settings are no different than what they were when it was working. The green light at the back of the power supply is on, as is the one in the front. When we unplug the power supply, the light at the back stays on for over a minute (but I don't know if that's normal). And sometimes the light in front is blinking, sometimes it's not.
The disc drive still seems to be trying to do something, though it only lasts for a couple of seconds. Everything else isn't responding at all. It doesn't look like anything else is doing anything at all, and there is none of the usual sounds that mean the computer is starting. It's totally silent. The monitor will stay on long enough to say it isn't connected, and then turn off.
This same thing happened about a week ago, and it randomly started working the same day that it stopped, we aren't sure why. We had to turn it off last night because of a storm, and now its doing the exact same thing as before. The whole time in between these two incidences it was working just fine, as long as we didn't turn it off.
Please help if you can.

Hello everyone!

I have a Toshiba Satellite P300 - 1G6, 7 years old.
It has always been working well, until a few days ago, when it suddenly shut down. No blue screen.
I turned it on and it continued working normally.
Yesterday it did the same again. No blue screen. Today it did the same a few times, every few minutes, while I was trying to save my data onto an external hard drive.
What can I do, in order to save my data and also to find out if the problem is in the OS or in the hardware?
The PC runs on Vista.

Hello there,
I have a HP550 laptop and I'm not quite sure what the problem is with it. It randomly, and very suddenly turns off if not charging (much like a car conking out), even if it is fully charged. It doesn't charge well, and you have to twist the charger to make it charge. I'm not sure if this is the fault of the battery or of where the charger meets the laptop (sorry I don't know what it's called :/ ).
If you could help it would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:laptop suddenly turning off- battery's fault or not?

If it's overheating, it'll shut down to prevent damage to the internal components.

Make sure it's being used on a hard flat surface and not a soft uneven surface that blocks the exhaust vents.

Make sure the exhaust fan is working and cycles on and off from time to time.

Make sure the exhaust vents aren't clogged with dust and debris.

---------------------------------------------------------

What's the model name and model number of that HP laptop?

Look at the sticker and advise what the product number(P/N) is.

" i tried charging my laptop but there is no light on Led light indicator while charging ".

You're referring to the LED light indicator on the AC adapter? If yes, then it's a problem with adapter and most likely needs to be replace with a new one. Please click on link below:

I have experienced this problem on multiple Lenovo laptops (all Thinkpads), multiple versions of Skype, multiple versions of Windows (all 64-bit) and multiple Bluetooth headsets (all Plantronics). In this case:  W510, 16GB RAM, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, Skype 4.2 and 5.3, Plantronics Voyager Pro Without Skype running, I can use Fn-F5 to enable BT, power on the BT headset (it auto connects), power off the headset (it auto disconnects), and use Fn-F5 to disable BT.  Furthermore, I can do all this multiple times.  All seems very robust. With Skype running, I can do most of these steps and they work fine, I can use the BT headset with Skype, etc.  Just one critical thing does not work:  If I power off the BT headset while Skype is running then I immediately get an error pop-up and Windows application event log entry indicating that the BtStacker.exe process failed (ie. crashed).  From that point on, BT is unusable until I reboot Windows. It's the Lenovo support BT drivers (created by Broadcom, apparently) that crashes.  QUESTION:   Is anyone else experiencing this problem or know of a solution? I reported the problem to skype when I first encountered it, long ago, but without getting any real attention on it.  I just opened another incident and so far there is no indication of a problem within Skype, itself.  The concensus if mounting that the root cause is in the Broadcom driver. Here is the con... I have recently done a system restore to a factory state. After reinstalling all of the programs I noticed that right after restarting my computer it actually is pretty fast, which can be especially seen by rght clicking on desktop or opening folders. However, few minutes after running it suddenly slows down simple things like right clicking on the desktop make me wait few seconds. Right now my computer has been running for few minutes already and I can see the text lagging a little as I type.
I have Avast, and I did a quick scan with malwarebytes just to make sure, but it didn't detect anything.
When I check the task manager I noticed that before it starts lagging, the CPU is below 10% if im not doing anything and even when when using some programs its pretty much always below 60%, however after it starts lagging, it jumps to 100% if I do as simple things as right click. I disabled most start up programs, but it didn't help. Any help would be appreciated.

***UPDATE***
I began to suspect overheating and so I decided to clean out the fan. So far no problems with lag anymore. ^^

Could someone please help and possibly tell me howt o find my other harddrive again!

Answer:Computer SUddenly TUrning off + Trouble Detecting Harddrive

Hi,

There could be several reasons for this. Please list the components in your computer (cpu, motherboard, all drives, power supply watts and brand name, etc...you get the picture) so we can get a better idea of what you have.

Has the drive that is lost worked before?

How long ago did the drive disappear?

Has the drive you are using ever displayed any other problems before now?

Are you using 80 connector cables for the hard drives?

Have you changed anything in the way of hardware recently?

Have you tried to swap the ribbon cable for the drive that works with the one that does not work?

Do you have another extra 80 connector cable to try a new one on this drive?

Oh, since it is just cutting out as you mentioned, try running this program so we can see the temps and voltages. It is free to download:

Speedfan will tell you the temperatures and a whole lot more. It's free

or

Post back with details and then we might be able to spot something that could cause your difficulty.

After I restart it, it says it has installed some software and I should make a restart, everytime. Also there is no more low energy warning appearing (it appeared some days ago but now not anymore), it is set to 10% seems to be something like this:http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T430s-shuts-down-or-powers-off-while-on-bat... is there some fix?the Update Manager of Lenovo does not find a fix, the Energy Manager does also not find a firmware update for the battery Do I really have to search and download this from your website again?! Which is the correct link for the Edge E535? Can't find it

Answer:Edge 535 shuts off/down suddenly

Hi, Mu5ch1n4t0r

Have you checked Event Viewer to see if Windows has recorded anything related to these sudden shutdowns? If not, if you open the Start menu and search for Event Viewer, you should be able to find it (it may say View event logs, but both will lead you to the same place.) Once in Event Viewer, select Windows logs, then System. From here, scroll through the log and go to the last time you remember this issue occurring. See if there are any errors or warnings that look related to this and post those here.

Thanks in advance,Adam

Hi. I have Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E530 (i7-3632qm I think it was) from September 2012. I installed hard drive caddy/bay in place of the DVD-ROM drive 1-2 years ago. I have lately noticed that the harddrive turns off very often. I has done this before, maybe from day one but I always thought that it is mean to do that (power saving). Now that for the first time I use the harddrive actively (with Sample Libraries when doing music) I started to notice that it really is a problem. There are constant delays when the harddrive has turned off while I do something and when I load the next sample it first needs to turn back on. I suspect (I hope I am wrong) that it is a BIOS hardcoded feature as BIOS maybe thinks that there is a DVD-drive connected, which would be the normal use case. The caddy which I am using was meant for Thinkpad T-series, but I removed a part from the edge so it went nicely inside E530. I also had to disconnect one pin (by cutting the soldering) from the caddy, because otherwise the machine would not even boot (I think it was boot loop, BSOD or something, I dont remember. I am on Win7. I did a clean install and installed only the most neccessary drivers (no lenovo bloatware). When the harddrive is in use it works fine. E.g. I just transferred 23GB file from my other computer via LAN and during writing this file the hard drive does not power off. It seems to do this only when it thinks it is not needed.  I have set from Win7 power optio... Read more

Hello!

I have a Satellite M30X-102 laptop and about one and a half months ago it started suddenly turning off. It first looked like an overheating problem, but it also turned off directly after i pressed the power button, and sometimes it worked 10 hours without any problems, also, when it turned off, the power LEDs flickered until I un-and replugend the power cable. If the battery was in, it was instantly discharged.

I sent it to repairs. They only cleaned the cooler and changed the heat-conducting paste and for a few days the laptop worked normally, but about a half of hour ago, it happened again. I am convinced now that this is a power problem, possibly the power cabel.

Do you have any sugestions of what I could do, or should I send it back along with a note that it is a power problem?

Thank you

Answer:Satellite M30X-102: Power issue - unit suddenly turning off

Hi,

If you have the equipment, plug in the power cable, and use a voltmeter to test it and see if it is getting the required voltage, should be 15V for that model. After that, if it works, plug it into the computer and see if the LEDS light up. If they do, move the cable around while its plugged in, and see if the lights turn off. If so there is a false contact on the motherboard and it needs to be changed.

Hello,

i'm running Win 7 Home Premium Service pack 1 64bit on a laptop. For a while now i have problem with my Mcafee LiveSafe real-time scanning and firewall randomly turning off. Even when i turn them on again they usually turn off afterwards. I already twice restored my computer to factory defaults which i read should get rid of persistent viruses. Still the problem persists. Besides that my computer frequently freezes then shows black screen and only manual shutdown turns it off. That usually happens when i'm browsing internet (using Firefox). I'm worried my PC is infected and i have some sensitive information on it so i would appreciate any help!

Thank you in advance

My Edge 2-15 Lenovo Laptop just didn't want to boot up. We were able to eventually get to the start screen and opened the task manager, it seems windows defender component is taking up a lot of memory. Tried to do a safe restart but didn't work. Help!

Me again! At this point (after 2 lost days of work!) We don't have anything special saved on there, it's all in the cloud (scary), so a reset would be awesome. My partner tried the a USB boot (since the battery is integrated and we can't remove and there are no cd/dvd drives, we made a usb flash drive). No success. Also: It's been 'upgraded' to windows 10.

Trying to make sure my drivers were up-to-date I ran across the newer version of the System Update app. When I tried to install, it gave me this error:The old version is now none existant in Programs and Features. Any ideas? Using Windows 10 version 1511 and all updates.  Used the Lenovo System Update and everything has been updated.  I wanted to turn on the built-in camera on my Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 530, the F5 key, and it came up with a message saying, "This key combination opens the Lenovo Settings Program. You do not have the Lenovo Settings Program installed on your computer. To launch the program using this key combination, install the program first." I went and downloaded the Thinkpad Settings Dependency for Windows 10, restarted the laptop and it still doesn't work. Even the Lenovo System Update program has it and I also downloaded it.  I restarted the laptop again and it still doesn't work. I then went to install the Lenovo Settings App on the Windows store and it doesn't look like the right one plus it still didn't work. My other problem is with the Lenovo Companion App from the Windows Store.  It worked before but now it ask to "Please install or update the Lenovo System Interface Driver for full functionality of Companion, then restart the app after installation."  I have installed the Lenovo System Interface Driver multiple times and it still popped up that message.  Yes, I have restarted the laptop and Companion.   Is there a reason why these issues are happening and how to fix it?  Thank you in advance.

Hello and welcome,

The BOM is a little hard to find:  http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/e540_fru_bom_20140728.pdf

Looks like the answer is no.  Nothing in the BIOS readme mentions adding any wifi cards.

Hi. I am experincing an annoying problem with my Edge 13. When running on battery it suddenly goes into hibernation while im working with the pc - not because it was left untouced for some time. It does this "trick" at all battery levels, it has happened some times while battery level was between 80 and 90 % It seems to bappen 2-4 times while using up a full charge. I have tried changing the critical battery level action in windows power mgt from hibernate to sleep, so instead it goes into sleep. Seems like windows/power mgt. software receives a faulty critical battery level signal from the hardware. (edited: changing the critcal battery level action makes it go into sleep instead of hibernation) K625, bios 1.17, newest verision of power mgt. software. Anyone else having experienced this kind of problem ? I hate these non-dead/periodical problems; bringing the machine in for warranty will probably result in it being returned with the standard "no errors found, cleaned and adjusted" :-( Best regards,Erik

Having been "upgraded" to Windows 10 some weeks ago, I was managing to get it to behave (more or less). On 9 November I received another update. Since then I have been unable to Browse any sites on my Dell N7010 laptop - they all come back with {site name} Not Responding. My Thunderbird email is working fine from the laptop and I can also browse with no problems from my Android tablet, using the same router.
Have tried clearing laptop cache and history etc and have also done a System File Scan with no errors reported.
I don't have any other browsers on the laptop to try.
Very grateful for any help or advice.
Thank you

Hi, My Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S430 is listed in the "supported W8" systems, http://shop.lenovo.com/gbweb/gb/en/learn/products/ee8/index.html But what is "Lenovo Enhanced Experience 8"? Should be some software available? Should be something available? So far, I got my hands over some drivers (card reader, hotkey, active protection system) and little more. Should something else be installed in the notebook to improve it's performance?

If I helped you, please give me some kudos! ^^

After I put my Satellite on 'sleep' mode, after a while it keeps sneaky turning back to the login screen, but the screen will be black still. The computer is ON though, because I can hear it and it gets really hot, which is a problem because my fan is broken, so when I put this bad boy on sleep, I kind of need it to stay asleep. Anyone know why it keeps sneakin' itself back awake, I'm afraid it's gonna cause permanent damage, I've taken to unplugging my computer so it'll die if I'm away and it does it.

Answer:My PC keeps turning back on

Lenovo Thinkcentre m92p sff (3227) makes Beep sound when powered on since I updated the bios to the version: 9sjw99usa.exe.Also since I replaced the stock lenovo Fans with Noctua fans it makes a second beep (so 2 beep sounds total and there is a fan error in the bios event log), when I connect back the stock fans it makes only 1 beep again. I dont know if the noctua fans would cause the same behaviour on the older bios version since I replaced the fans after the bios update , but I know that with the old bios version there wasnt any beep on startup with the stock fans.I read somewhere that lenovos can give errors in the bios event log with other fans when their rpms are slower then the original fans rpm were, that doesnt explain the single beep on start up with the stock fans though.I wasnt able to find any older bioses for my model to experiment with them on the lenovo support page only the newest bios is offered for download and I wasnt able to find a way to turn of the self test / beep post on start in the bios. I remember that some oem pc systems had key combination for hidden bios settings, does someone know of such a combination to enable hidden settings for my device, or any other way to turn of the annoying beep sounds?I also replaced the stock PSU  with a Be!Quiet! TFX Power 2 300W Gold + 24 to 14 adapter right after I updated the bios. Bould the first beep on start be because of the new PSU? But how would the System know its not the stock PSU? I... Read more

WinXP suddenly started showing a black screen for about 5-10 mins right before the WinXP login prompt comes up on a restart. Explorer at times will be very unresponsive or will stop working entirely. Closing explorer.exe and re-running it helps at times, other times no so much.

.Ran a bunch of programs like S&D, Malwaybytes, Microsoft, etc. and not finding anything.
.Did a repair of windows with my WinXP cd - things are a bit more stable but not much.
.Was noticing many instances of mshta.com - followed directions online to remove. Seemed to be gone but comes back inevitably.

I'm stumped and was hoping I could get your expertise!

Thanks,
Will

Not sure if this is a MS issue. Default zoom setting for Edge is 125% but Outlook email is suddenly really tiny in size despite Edge showing 125%. The right hand 30% of the screen is now just empty white space. If I change it to 100% and back to 125% then it corrects until I close and reopen Edge. No other tabs are affected.

Hi, I bought an Windows 7 Edge 11 almost 6 months ago (20th March, 2011).  It has been properly cared for and stored correctly when not in use.  I am fastidious in such matters.  Despite the reasoanbly light use it recieves, it has ground to a halt. Four days ago, I closed the lid and put into it's default hibernation state.  As my partner wished to use it half an hour later, I opened the lid and powered it up.  At this point, it took almost three minutes to bring up the "switch users" screen.  After logging in, it took well over five minutes to display the desktop.  After this, the entire machine became unresponsive.  Twenty minutes later, I performed a hard shut down (held power button for 5 seconds). After rebooting, both the boot and login process was noticeably longer. I managed to get into msconfig to disable some of the remaining Lenovo bloatware (powerbar kept making the system stall).  I also disabled some other non-critical applications. At present, boot and login is about normal, but the system will only remain stable for about three minutes (depending on applications used / buttons pressed).  After which, the system begins to sieze up.  When this happens, there is a faint but distinctive sound that emanates from the right-hand side of the keyboard (beneath the carriage return). You can listen to it here: http://www.4shared.com/audio/cELVnOR3/LenovoMP3.html WARNING: You'l... Good evening! I have a Lenovo Edge 2 that has been babied since purchased. Never abused, dropped, no scratches or dents, it's in fantastic condition still. I purchased the extended warranty, hoping I'd never need it.Last year, it stopped charging properly. The battery power dropped to 0%, and hasn't increased since. The machine will only power on when plugged in to AC power, and will immediately power down when the adapter is disconnected. The charging status indicator LED on the right side of the machine flashes orange in a non-steady, intermittent pattern, and the charging indicator in the taskbar in Windows 10 does the same thing. I returned the machine to Best Buy, they sent it to their "Geek Squad" facility for repairs, and the AC Adaptor and battery were replaced, under warranty. The machine was returned to me, and still doesn't charge.I contacted Lenovo, they advised I would need to return it to their facility for repairs. I put it in the provided box, and dropped it off to FedEx on 6/24/17. It's now been 2 weeks. I contacted Lenovo to inquire about the status of the repair, and was told "The technician found evidence of damage, and the upper case will need to be replaced as well, but damage isn't covered under warranty, so you'll need to cover the cost of the repair." I asked for the price, was told "A technician will email you with the price." I inquired about the status of the original repairs, they told me the claim was on hold, pending my review and... Read more
