I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Lenovo Flex 3 1120. When I bought it, I went for the hard drive option that had the cheapest price since all the other options were HDD of various sizes and I knew I was going to upgrade to SSD anyway. The flex 3 I have though, does not have a HDD and uses an eMMC embedded storage. When I went to install the SSD, there is an empty space for where the hard drive would sit and there is no SATA connection. There is a socket in the board that is labeled "SATA conn1" but no cable.

I called support and was told it is possible to use the SSD and boot from it. The cable and caddy can be purchased but she said Lenovo will not supply the part. I found the part number I think,  1109-01051, but apparently no one else sells it either. There was one on ebay, but it's gone. anyone know where I can find one?

Answer:Flex 3 1120.- No SATA connection!

update: the item number is actually 5C10J08424. I still had a hard time a seller with it in stock. One website wanted about $70 for it not including shipping. I finally found/bought one on encompassparts.com for about $20 including shipping. I'll update once I get to try it out.

I just received my new Lenovo Flex 3-1120 ( Model: 80LX001KUS).  As delivered, it has 32G of eMMC.  I am desirous of upgrading the machine with a Hard Drive (which I have purchased).    I have discovered that due to the fact that the stock configuration does not have a hard drive that there are two parts that are needed to house and connect the hard drive.  From Lenovo?s parts list those parts are:5B40J08368 HDD Bracket  and5C10J08424 HDD Cable As much as I have tried I cannot find any option for purchasing these parts on-line. Please advise of options to acquire.

My flex 15 was purchased second hand without a hard drive.  Turns out they took the hard drive SATA cable and bracket as well.  I found the service manual for the Flex 15 and have found the part numbers I need.  Lenovo parts representatives cannot find the part numbers.  These parts must exist somewhere!  Does anyone know a way I could order them?

I have a new Flex 3 it was working fine yesterday, I shut it down last night and plugged it in, it seems to have a good charge (and I have tried it plugged in as well), but this morning it will not boot up.  I hope I don't have to take this back to BB today, any ideas?

Answer:Flex 3 -1120 wont power on

I had the same issue. it appears that a driver was installed but the system has stalled. It actually happened twice. I sent it in and they "refreshed" it and it did it again. I let the power die on it and it started back up. I don't know of a way to manually shut it down. The old way was take the battery out but its not the case here. The battery is sealed in side and I didn't want to give them a reason to void the warranty. You can charge stuff with the usb while it's unplugged, try draining the battery that way with a phone or tablet.

My battery was charging fine and then I clicked on the battery icon today to open up and the menu and it went from telling me the battery was plugged in and charging to plugged in and not charging. It was like clicking the icon turned off the charging capability. This is a brand new computer, I've only had it for a couple weeks. The battery and adapater are both okay according to OneKey Optimizer, so I can't figure out why it's not charging. Currently running Windows 10 if that helps.

Answer:Lenovo Flex 3-1120 Plugged in, not charging

Does your battery stay at about 60%?  If so, then there actually is no problem.  Lenovo Flex 3 has a feature called "Conservation Mode," which keeps the battery from charging all the way.  This will supposedly increase the lifespan of the battery, which is a good thing, since the battery isn't meant to be replaced.  If you want to charge the battery normally, just click on the battery guage on the taskbar.  You'll find the setting there.

When I push the start button on right side of the notebook, it will begin to start up.  The 'Lenovo' screen comes on but then the screen goes black and does not start.  I try pushing the start button again but not until I push it for a third time will the windows come up on the screen.  Is this normal or is there a problem I should have fixed?  thanks

Hello, My windows updated a few weeks ago and after the update I had a few issues with my touch pad and sound. I was able to roll back my touch pad driver and fix the problem but there has been no update to Realtek High Definition Audio Driver for several years so there was nothing to roll back to. The issue I have been having that my sound has been contstently going up leaving the sound bar on the screen (A picture is attach below if it helps). This has become very annoying since I  have not found a way to get rid of this. So far I have tried updating and deleting then reinstalling the driver but the sound bar remains. Therefore, is there any way I can fix this? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks,SoundMax

I want to transfer data from my hard drive in my laptop (Lenovo Y480) to a hard drive in my desktop. the cables for the sata adapter do not fit the hard drive from the laptop. Is there a different form for a 2.5 hard drive and a 3.5 hard drive?

Answer:sata to usb adapter cable dosen't fit sata hard drive in laptop?

Does the drive have an adapter need to remove to expose the SATA conenctors? I don;t see anything about the Y480 not having a standard SATA drive and laptop and desktop SATA connectors are the same.

Maybe post pictures of both the drive and your SATA cables.

While the computer was on, i tried to plugged the Hardrive in the SATA power connector cable, as soon as i plugged it in the power connector there was smoke coming from the connection and my computer immediately shutdown.

Can someone explain what happened? I though you could connect devices while the computer was on without any issues?

Question: Flex Cable

My name is xttwo.

I've recently rebuilt a laptop.

It's a Toshiba Tecra 8100. The last part I need is a ribbon flex cable that connects the motherboard with the front end of the LED display just below the keyboard.

Toshiba the company won't help me since I have an out-of-date out of warranty computer.

So far I haven't been able to find any place to get it. It seems to be the one computer part no one in the world keeps in stock.

Believe me I've looked.

Sales & Service locations where I live, other places in The United States, other places in Singapore and France.

So now I've decided to try asking people on tech forums. This is my second of what I hope won't be many more forums.

If anyone out there has the part I'm looking for; I'll be happy to pay you the $30 dollars I was originally going to give one location that presumably had it.
( via PayPal )

The part I need is called Ribbon Flex Cable.
( flexible printed circuit cable )

Appliance Wiring Material : AWM E41447-M 2896 VW-1

That's the serial/model number printed on the computer cable itself.

Answer:Flex Cable

Is this what you are looking for? e41447-m,awm e41447m,2896 wm,awm 2896 ,30pin cable,30 pin 2896m,

Far cheaper than the $30 you are offering up to people... Also, from what I can find, that model and such really gives no information as different vendors use that same number for different cables in different products. One company has a 40pin version, another has a 5 pin, another has a 20 inch long one, another has a 2 inch long one.

Answer:Sata Hdd / cable / motherboard sata / problem?

a few things to try first.

-use a different sata cable
-use a different power cable
-try the drive in a different sata port on the motherboard

my first thought was a motherboard fault, which it may well be but try the above first, if nothing else you can eliminate three things as possible faults in the mean time.

So, I got my new Flex 5 last week and I'm absolutely loving it, but I noticed today that my cats have already chewed through the charging cord (thankfully it wasn't plugged in at the time!). I've been looking for new ones on Amazon, but I can't find anything from Lenovo and I'm very wary of buying third-party chargers after a few incidents with my old Macbook and the cheap chargers I bought for that. Does anybody know where I can buy a replacement from Lenovo? If not, is there a brand or specific product you have purchased that works correctly with this model?

I have a Lumia 920 and for the past 3 months the compos, Accelerometer, and proximitor stopped working al together causing my screen not to rotate, glance not working, Phone display not turning of when calling, capacitive button lights not turning on, Nokia Camera app crashing, and auto screen brightness malfunctioning. I heard that replacing the button flex cable could be the solution because the sensors like compos and accelerometer are on the flex cable. So I put my phone on the freezer for 60sec freezing only the button flex cable side and it worked for 20 hours. I then froze the other side of the phone and it still didn't work so I once again froze the side with the flex cable and it worked temporarily.
So I Would like to know if it sound like the button flex cable needs replacing. Thank you!!

Answer:Nokia Lumia 920 Flex cable Replacement?

If your compass isn't working then it's either uncalibrated or yes the flex cable isn't working. however the proximity sensor to detect the lighting isn't related to the flex cable, it's located right beside the front facing camera. Of course it would be best to just replace the flex cable for now and see how that goes.

Hello everyone,

I was replacing a floppy drive on my HP Pavillion ze5470US, and I had removed the old floppy drive flex cable from the Low Insertion Force (LIF) connector on the motherboard. At first I thought the connector removed from the board, so I tried for a while to pull the peice off. When I realized it was not coming off, I finally thought to think to remove the cable. I am not sure if I have actually damaged the connector, or if when I replaced the new drive cable in the connector, if I had not done it correctly. When I use the computer now, the floppy drive will work fine sometimes, however, most of the time it will give me errors telling me that it can't find the sectors on the disk, and it cannot format disks. I know the disks are good as I have tried them in other computers.

Anyhow, I was just wonding how one would properly go about removing and inserting floppy drive flex cables into LIF connectors? Is their a special tool, or do I just gently pull the cable out and firmly press it in?

Any help you can provide me would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

-wickid

Answer:Switching from an IDE cable to an SATA cable

There is no way to use a cable to install a SATA drive on a mainboard with no SATA support.
You'll need to install a PCI SATA controller (and you'll also need a MOLEX to SATA power adapter for the drive -- it's long past the time that SATA drives had MOLEX power connectors on them.

My laptop got that notorious crack at the right side joint. So I bought a replacement part from AliExpress. Fortunately it is cheap and fits perfectly.
But a service man who replaced that part did it very bad. Sometimes my keyboard does't work. I opened the bottom cover and discovered that a flex cable was placed incorrectly and some screws were missing or screwed wrongly. Can anyone tell me what is the function of this cable? Is it 40 pin? I'm thinking of replacing it by myself because it looks creasy and afraid that it can cause more problems in the future. But right now my keyboard works well again...

Recently the power button on my Lenovo flex 2 14D (Win8) broke and I have had to resort to using the 'backup' power button by poking it with a paper clip. I've googled around a bit and it seems as if you'd need to replace the motherboard to repair it, something I'd prefere to avoid.  Another thing that came up was that it would be possible to change some BIOS setting to make the computer turn on, wake from sleep/hibernation etc when the AC-cable is attached. However I have not been able to find any such setting anywhere (and I'm decently confident that not only have I not found it but that there is no such setting in the BIOS version that's on this computer). I'd appreciate some pointers on where to find it. If it doesn't exist: are there any other ways to achieve the same or a similar result? Thanks in advance

Answer:sata to sata 3 cable

If I am mistaken someone can correct me.

Sata 3 has a faster transmission engine. But the wiring on the connectors stay the same. The difference in the cables is sata three is has a much lower resistance which permits the faster signal transfer.

Hi skanungo,

YES, SATA 2 & SATA 3 differ in data transfer speeds, SATA 3 is at 6GB/s whereas SATA 2 is at 3GB/s but this is only dependant of your hardware, NOT the cable. Therefore it should be completely fine to use a SATA 2 cable between 2x SATA 3 Devices. SATA 2 cables can handle 6GB/s speeds.

If it is bothering you that much take a look on Amazon: Amazon.in: SATA 3 cable

Has each laptop a specific sata cable?

Answer:sata cable

Most laptops don't use a SATA cable at all. They just have a SATA connector that the drive snaps into. They're usually an all in one connector, not separate power/data cables.

Answer:USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Cable

I've put hard drives into external boxes with a USB interface loads of times - and never had an issue. One way around it may be :-Put the drive as a second internal drive - copy all the data off to the main drive - refit the drive via the USB cable - set it up (initialise etc) - copy all the data back again.

I have a USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Cable that I have used in the past to retrieve files from bad hard drives. I am encountering a problem this time that I did not have before. Every file I try says I do not have permission. I know the difference is the previous ones were not password protected and this one is. I do have the password as it is my computer. I have tried different file sharing and permissions options with no luck. I cannot locate a place to enter the password so it knows I have permission. When I have used this in the past I was able to get a screen that was just like looking at the desktop of the other computer and that is not showing either. I really need help figuring out how to let the computer/files know that it is ME. I don't want to mess it up so that once I restore the corrupt file I can't access anything either. Thanks

Answer:usb 2.0 to sata/ide cable

Do you have the link to the one you bought on eBay? I have received bad adapters when I was going cheap.

Also, does this one include a separate power cord for it? If this is a desktop drive, you absolutely need to power it with the included power brick. You can sometimes get away with not using it on a laptop drive, if you are using a powered USB port.

When I plug in the connector the comp recognizes my USB but it doesn't show up in my comp as specific hardware.
I use windows xp pro. If anyone can help me access these files itd be greatly appreciated

Thank you

Answer:USB 2.0 to IDE & Sata cable help

I am not sure what happened to your laptop, but if you ran over it with a car or truck it may have damaged the hard drive too. Any physical damage?

Can you hear it spin? If you cannott hear it spin, does it feel like it is spinning? If you hold a spinning hard drive in your hand and move it, do you feel 'resistance' to movement as you would with a spinning gyro? (Most people are unable to detect this though).

Also go into the laptop BIOS setup to see if the drive is seen there.

Question: sata cable

I only have one sata cable left in my computer is it possible to get a splitter and make it into two.

Answer:sata cable

No.You would need a plud-in SAT controller board to get more SATA ports.Or you may have unused PATA/IDE connections you could use. What do you want to connect and what do you have already?

Question: Sata Cable?

I'm stuck in bios screen and my computer can't detect my internal hard drive. (Can I just buy a sata cable to fix my problem?)

Answer:Sata Cable?

If that is in fact the problem, then yes. In order to find the cause of your problem, you need to test in a systematic manner.
First reseat both data and pw connectors on the drive. If that does not work, try another cable. If that does not work, test your hard drive in a working system or bench system.

What are some symptoms of a faulty HDD to motherboard cable? I'm pretty sure it's called a SATA cable, but I have limited experience with them. I have an HGST disk drive, 1 TB, and I posted about my issue a few months ago.

Basically, data on the drive seems to be slow. When I watch a movie or play music, it pauses intermittently and needs to catch up. I've come to the conclusion that it's not an issue with the drive itself. Unless I received two faulty drives in a row, which is very unlikely, I'm thinking it has something to do with the SATA cable. My laptop, the MSI GT80S Titan, doesn't have a standard connector between the HDD and motherboard, so it needs the SATA cable.

My question is if the cable can cause data issues like this. I've contacted MSI about purchasing a replacement cable and hopefully I'll be able to. I've checked on Amazon and I can't seem to find one that'll match the socket on the motherboard.

If it's not the cable, then I have no clue why it's doing this. I'll post specs just because.

CPU: Intel i7-6920HQ @ 2.90 GHz
GPU: x2 Nvidia GTX 980 in SLI
RAM: 4x Kingston 8GB (total of 32GB)
Storage: HGST HTS721010A9E630 (1TB) and SanDisk SD8SN8U512G1122 (512 GB)

Ok, so i'm upgrading my drive to a 500gb, my motherboard is fully sata compatible, but the plan i have is to take a 60gb hard drive and use it as the primary drive then use the 500gb as a secondary, but have all the files on it so they doing get lost in some kind of corruption of the primary, but the 60gb doesn't have a sata port, my motherboard also supports that its just can i have the primary drive not on a sata cable and then the secondary on the sata cable? or will that cause conflict

Answer:sata cable compatability

You can use the IDE drive as primary master and have the SATA as a secondary.
You just want to make sure the IDE drive is set to first boot device in the BIOS
setup,so the computer boots the operating system from it.
Shouldn't be any conflicts.

I am baffled at the fact that I can not, for the life of me, find anyone who sells or even produces a Y data cable for SATA HDs. I recently bought a new computer and I want to create a Master and Slave scenario with two different HDs so that I can throw Vista on one and XP on the other... just to keep the children from fighting in the back seat Does anyone know where I could find one? I've looked at all of my local retailers as well as just googled it... nothing. Everyone has the Y power cable, but no Y data cable... I would kind of expect this cable to be in existance like it does for IDE hard drives... meh.

Answer:Two SATA HDs - Y Data Cable

Uh, I've personally never seen one - why would you need it? Most motherboards come with plenty of SATA ports.

I opened the case to my Dell XPS 8900 and inside were two blue Sata Cables. One cable was connected. The Other SATA Cable was connected to a SATA Port to the right of the Memory slots. The other side was hanging loose in the case.
The first Blue SATAable comes from the front of the case near the hard drive to the bottom of the mother board into the Front USB 3.0 connector. The other blue cable that you can see next to the memory is not connected to anything.
Here's the blue cable that goes no where. Should this be connected to one of the SATA connection on the mother board?

It just seems strange to have a SATA Cable connected to the Mother Board and going no where?
Lux

Answer:Unconnected SATA Cable

Doubtful a SATA cable connects to a USB header on the motherboard.
There is a blue SATA port on the motherboard, right below the blue USB header. Cable from the blue SATA port should be connected to the boot drive. So you probably mis-IDed that blue motherboard connector.  Manual with board layout here:
downloads.dell.com/.../xps-8900-desktop_service manual_en-us.pdf
How many hard drives do you have? The SATA port near the memory slots should probably connect to either an optical driver or to a second hard drive.

Hey guys. I had built a computer with a MB having numerous SATA ports, and only one IDE. I am using a SATA as the C system drive. I have a CD writer setup as Master on the IDE cable. I want to add an IDE HDD for data storage on the cable with the CD writer. Should the CD writer continue to be used as the master (on the end cable connection), or does it matter? By the way, now and then I will be swapping out the data IDE drives. And I do write CD/DVDs fairly often on this computer.

Thanks.

Question: SATA Cable variety

Say i buy a computer addon, like a CD Drive. It says the interface is "SATA"

My mother board has a SATA 3Gb/s and a PATA, and SATA RAID

Would the CD Drive, being only listed as a SATA interface, be able to hookup on the SATA 3Gb/s???

Answer:SATA Cable variety

Depends on the computer and the motherboard. Usually, computer mother boards as you describe use SATA hard drives, and EIDE ribbon cable CD-ROM/CD-RW/DVD-RW drives which work just as well. The additional speed of SATA doesn't really show up in a SATA optical drive until you get into the Blue drives.

Question: SATA Data cable

I searched here but didn't find anything close. My problem lies with the non positive locking of these cables, if I touch something else usually it disconnects easily, like PSU or other cables when I try to tidy up. I got mine with my ASUS A8N-E mobo. Are all of them the same? This is my first experience with SATA drives and cables. Thanks as always for your help.

Answer:SATA Data cable

Some newer cables may not fully interlock, and you have to push on the ends to get them to solidly connect if they have interlocks on them. Otherwise if they slip out, possibly the ends have shrunk someway or another and may need to be looked at.

I am in the process of building my first pc right now but I am running into many problems. One major problem is that I just cannot find where to connect my SATA cable to. I plugged one end to the SATA 1 place on my mobo but I cannot find where the other end goes! It would make sense if it went into my HDD but no slot can be found that would fit the SATA cable. Also I have a lot of wires, especially from my PSU, that I just have no idea where they go. I have a Western Digital 80 gig 7200 RPM Hard Drive, bought a OEM at newegg so no info was included.

Also this is a real newb question but since my hard drive is SATA, I do not connect an IDE cable to it right? I just connect the IDE cable to my burner and set that on master? Or am I wrong somewhere?

If needed I will post pics of anything necessary. Please help. I really want this first build to be successful. Thanks in advance!

Answer:HDD and Sata Cable Help Needed

If you just have one device on the ide cable, set it to master.

The other end of that sata cable connects to the hard drive for sure.
Either your not looking hard enough or maybe you didn't get a sata hard drive

The hard drive will either just use ide or sata. You don't need to connect an ide cable to it if your hard drive is sata.

is it possible to burnout a SATA cable?

i was having trouble with my hard drive a while back and it wasn't being detected. i put a new SATA cable and it worked fine until about five minutes ago. i shut off my external hd and my computer restarted, then my internal hd wasn't being detected. i had to put my internal hd in my external enclosure because i ran out of SATA cables. is this common for SATA cables to burn out like that?

Answer:Burnout SATA cable?

i have never heard of a SATA cable burning out. the connections can be broken through excessive bending but if they burned out as you say i would guess that replacing the cable would be the least of your problems. for the cable to actually be damaged by the current it carries it would be more than high enough to do serious damage to your motherboard and/or hard drive

Hello!
I have quite old 256Gb Crucial RealSSD C300 (without OS on it, just NTFS formatted with default 4k allocation size) which I want to use just as regular flash drive. For that purpose I bought SATA to USB cable-adapter. Once I connected it to my laptop it worked for the first time just fine and was recognized as New Volume (ESmiley Happy, I could drag and drop any files to that volume with no problem. However once I remove it from USB and insert it again - it doesn't work anymore. Windows doesn't recognize it and doesn't show in My computer drive list. It only recognized as ASMT 2105 USB Device in Computer > Right Mouse > Properties > Device Manager > Disk Drives.
The only way to force it work is to click Uninstall on ASMT 2105 USB Device in Device Manager > Disk Drives and then to connect it to USB. But again, it will work only 1 time. If I remove it from USB and reconnect - it won't work again.
Any suggestions how to fix that? Would highly appreciate that.

Question: Thin Sata Cable

Does anyone know where I can find a sata cable where the plug is the thin all the way through? I think the one that I am using now will become unplugged every so often and my computer is getting a BSOD. Hi, My computer started up fine this morning but after my sister turned it off because of a storm and I turned it back on when I got home, I got a disk boot failure message. I immediately checked my power and SATA cables as a loose power connector ruined my last harddrive. The power was fine, but I noticed the SATA cable on the motherboard end was a little loose. You guys know of anything I can put on there to tighten up the connection so it does not come loose again? The connection is SATA 1 type. Also, if the cable happens to come loose when the computer is in use, will that just ruin the data currently being written only or will it possibly ruin the whole drive as well? Thanks for the help.

Answer:There a way to tighten SATA cable?

Time to get out the hot glue gun maybe ????

Just kiddin,, can you not just secure the cable to the HD cage with a cable tie or similar.

I have gotten away once or twice with pulling the IDE lead out of a HD with no ill effects, just lucky or an act of god I cant decide, but generally it can cause HD failure or controller failure on the board.

Hi i have a machine an acer aspire x3450 specs in the pic

now i have a 2tb external but i want to fit the drive inside my machine but i only have 2 sata sockets 1 has the dvd drive in it the other the main drive.

i took the dvd out and connected the external to it and it worked but that means no dvd drive.

so the question is

can i fit a sata splitter cable and connect both harddrives to it like you can if it was ide ?

i know you can buy the splitter cable but i seem to find alot of posts saying that you can only connect 1 sata item to a sata cable ?

any one tried this or have more than 1 item connected to a sata cable and works ?

Answer:sata splitter cable

I assume that you mean a splitter for the data cables, which I'm not aware of anything like that. Do you have a spare PCI slot to add a SATA controller?

EDIT: When I Googled for a SATA splitter, all that came up was a splitter for power, not data.

Hi !

I have been spending a lot of time making the inside of my rig as "clean" as possible. My last hurdle is a short SATA cable (HDD to MoBo).

Anyone know of any Do-it-yourself kits?

I attemted to modify a cable myself as I did with the all the other cabling (molex, 4/6 pin, etc..) but to no avail. The housing is really not designed to be opened and re-sealed without it looking like a "bailing wire and duct tape" job (no offense).

I did check all the usual suspects: Newegg, ZipZoomFly, Tiger Direct, etc. ....nada.

I need a 4" cable...

Thanks for your time.

I am going to buy some Sata Data Cables. The ad I saw said "Straight to 90 degree left". I had not thought about the direction in the past. I held up a cable and I guess it depends which way you are holding it as to if it is left or right. What is the normal cable, left or right?

Answer:Sata Cable Question

The nomenclature is rather weird, they should have been called "up" and "down."

If the drive is sitting on a table, right-side-up, and you're looking at the connector end, then:

Left = Cable goes up

Right = Cable goes down

Hi,

Have about given up with my Seagate external HD (FreeAgent), but saw a post where the poster
mentioned that the drive (his) was apparently mechanically fine and that it turned out to be the electronics inside the HD case.
(My Free Agent External HD has a separate power wart, and a dc power input, as well as the USB output)

He was able to recover his files by opening the case and using a SATA to USB to go directly from the Drive to his desktop PC, and bypassing the FreeAgents case electronics. The PC apparently recognized the HD without any problem.

Sure sound like it is worth a try.

Will have to purchase the appropriate cables.

Question: they seem to come in different "flavors". Some cables have just the SATA drive connector to USB, and have a statement that the drive would be powered by the power thru the USB.

Is this doable, and the right approach for me probably ?
How would the Drive "know" to use the single USB-Data cable for power, and not the normal dc power input ?
A jumper somewhere ?

Or, some others (on Overstock, e.g.) seem to come with a power supply and a cable for the output to go to the drive, as well as a data cable. Does this make more sense, particularly since my HD uses an external dc power supply ?

Or,...?

Thanks,
Bob

Answer:SATA HD To USB Cable (External HD To PC)

Can a loose HD SATA cable cause the HD, and Windows to boot/load/run slow?

I thought I heard that a loose SATA cable can make the HD not "spin up" on boot, thus giving you a "no boot disk" error?

A slow spinning hard drive would also affect the accessing of programs as well?

What other problems can a loose SATA cable create?

Scott

Answer:SATA cable problem?

SATA cables have to be firmly in place or you are going to have issues many of which you have listed. A SATA cable can be bad in itself causing a system to report issues with your hard drive when the hard drive is not the issue.

I just helped someone recently in the BSOD forum who was having all kinds of issues with his hard drive including Blue Screens of Death. I had him swap out his SATA cable and the issues ceased.

I had a problem with my HDD this morning. My 5 yrs old Seagate SATA HDD of 500GB which usually ran without problem, all of a sudden did not want to start up. I'm lucky because it is only an external HDD with recorded tv shows and movies on it so I can still access my computer. I don't turn it on very often, only when I want to transfer or view a file from it.

Now I'm assuming that it might just be a broken SATA Power Cable. Because when I opened the case and checked the power cable it seems to be a little not normal. Here I provide you with the pictures of my SATA power cable:

1) The pins are not alligned normally (straight).

2) The black end also look a little bit bend.
3) The yellow cable has little scratch.

By looking at these pictures I hope you understand what I mean. Nothing has ever happened before to that HDD. If you think that the problem is not caused by the cable, please tell me why.

Please answer as soon as possible. Thank you

Answer:Broken SATA Power Cable

5 years is good. In our times very rare hard disk works warranty period (3years). I've seen cables in more bad shape, those you have are almost new and simply can't be reason for hdd operation problem.
Pins in Molex connector always free, they are not fixed by default.

It just crossed my mind that no one has asked this question. What is the maximum throughput of a SATA cable?

12Gb/s? 24Gb/s? 48Gb/s? Is there a limit?

Answer:What is the maximum throughput of a SATA cable?

SATA - 1.5 Gbit/s
SATA 2 - 3.0 Gbit/s
SATA 3 - 6 Gbit/s.

I am posting here what I posted to the HP Forum. I post here because at HP a message may sit unanswered.

Here is the difficulty:

During boot the message starts with '1796 Sata Cable Error' and indicates the color of the cable and that there will be a performance issue. I have four hard drives and one cd drive. I have in every fashion changed the insert arrangement and what ever I do I get the 1796 error. In fact I disconnected all sata cables except for the primary boot drive - and I get 1796 error. And yes the Bios is updated - this machine, Windows 7 Pro runs with 32 GB memory.

I would ignore the message but I keep losing after boot my G: drive. In fact occassionally during boot the system runs a chkdsk on G drive. No errors of course. However I will end up now and then with G drive missing. I then need to reboot to reclaim G drive. I have run SCP and Chkdsk.

In fact drive G (WD 1 TB) I did download the WD Diag utility. All the drives, Western Digital passed, and drive G I even ran the extended test - and it passed.

Thus my conclusion is that I need to fix that cable situation - and be free from any future 1796 boot errors. Is there a remedy?

Thanks!

Answer:HP Boot Sata Cable Error

From what you say is that i think your SATA cable or the slot may be faulty one, Remove all sata cables from all slots and hard drives, connect one SATA at a time in one slot with BOOTING hard disk and try to BOOT and see whether you got same error in all slots and cables with single hard disk to make sure where is the original fault was.

We as Yoga 2 13 owners are looking at ways to replace the 2,5" HDD with an extra SSD,complementary to the M.2 SSD option of the Y2 13. As the supplied WD 5mm HDD has  very specific connectors on both sides of the cable  (SATA express and a Lenovo specific?) we are currently not able to add regular 2,5 inch SATA SSDs.  We learned form the Lenovo Yoga 2 11 Hardware Maintenance Manual that there should be a cable that fits our Yoga's. Cable miscellaneous parts:c) Vienna HDD Cable SEAGET   90204934c) Vienna HDD Cable WD   90204935  Pictures of the Seagate ST500LT032 show indeed the necessary SATA connector. So we should order the SEAGET version of the cable to connect:a 5mm 2,5 inch HDD with SATA connector oran SSD with such connector and an thickness of less than 7 mmBut still I'm not 100% sure the connector on the motherboard is the same for the Yoga2 11 (left) and 13 ? Could somebody confirm the connector type on the Y2 11 motherboard (with pictures)?

Answer:HDD SATA cable Yoga 11 2 details

On the left picture Yoga 2-11, on the right Yoga 2-13. This connectors are not compatible.
