I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Dropped Laptop, Flex-2 15, screen won't go back together/broken digitizer

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

I'm not an owner of your model, but it would appear to me if the screen is not snapping back into place there might be something misaligned or possibly a broken piece of plastic preventing it. To correct the problem you might have to do a little disassembly to find the cause.

For your reference I have listed below links to your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual and a Lenovo Training video series. You might find that information useful in trying to correct the problem

I have a X201 Tablet had always worked well.Yesterday suddenly the screen became completely black.I connected to the external LCD monitor and the computer works perfectly. But the internal monitor not. At least as a monitor.I can not see anything in the screen not even in backlight. But I can use the digitizer on screen... Namely if I touch the screen with the pen it makes me mouse. It seems strange because I was convinced it was a matter of cables. What can it be?Should be the illuminator? I think not, because in this case should be seen vaguely. Is that correct? Then I thought, or the display itself or cables that connect to the main board?I opened but everything seems to be ok. What is more likely is.I would like to understand it before you buy spare parts useless. How can I test which of the components is?I hope someone can help me,Thanks in advance

Answer:I dropped my windows phone, nothing seems broken but my screen is blank, can that be fixed?

Obviously something is broken.
You're not going to able to tell anything is broken or not by just looking at it physically.
I had an HD2 in seemingly perfect condition. Processor had some problems no visual inspection would show.
Dead LCD? Well, its not obvious just by looking.
I would line up a replacement screen, but make sure all the connections are secure.

Howdy folks,

Unfortunately I droped my laptop and the glass on the screen cracked.  If you can see from the picture, the monitor works fine, it's just that the glass has some cracks in it. I have a Lenovo Flex 2 15. The model number is: 59422170.

I called Lenovo and they were of very little help.

My cousin is going to help me replace the screen, but I was wondering if I could get an opinion first. I was thinking of buying http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-15-6-Assembly-Touch-LCD-Screen-Dislay-For-Lenovo-Flex-2-15-20405-Frame-/...

But I was wondering, since only the glass is broken, and the screen is working fine, is it possible for me to find just the glass somewhere and replace that? The LDC and touchscreen are working fine. There's no functional problems with my computer due to the crack, just aesthetics.

Maybe this is what I need instead: http://www.ebay.com/itm/15-6-Outer-Touch-Screen-Digitizer-Glass-Panel-For-Lenovo-Flex-2-15-20405-/39...

My Flex 2-15 recently underwent a background update. Shortly thereafter the screen flickered maybe 6-7 times then the colors have been way off since. When the "blank screen" screensaver activates, everything looks purpleish red and doesn't completely blank the screen. It's almost impossible to tell the difference between black and red cards in Hearts, Euchre whatever.Could it be a driver issue with the update? Or was that just a coincidence and the screen is messed up? Or did a wire get pinched or broken?

Can someone point me in the direction to locate a new Flex 2-15D digitizer frame part? I cracked my digitizer and have purchased a new one except the new digitizer does not include the frame and I cannot for the life of me locate this part. The hardware maintenance manual for the Flex 2-15D identifies only the  LCD and digitizer part numbers (FRU's) not the frame that resides between them. Stickers on the old frame don't have part numbers, just identifiers like WIS 460.00Z11.0001 and WIS 441.00Z09.0001 Anyone have any ideas? PSI'm looking for the frame that the digitizer adheres to, not the LCD bezel which is a different part. Thanks everyone.

Bad luck, my screen glass was broke like 6 months ago (when my computer was in warranty, but did not call...) Anyway, I've been looking for that part and I can't find it, now when I look form the part number in the support site, it just does not say, how can I either get the part number or even better, Know where I can get this part. Thanks for the help!

Answer:Replacing Flex 20 Glass Digitizer

The FRU's shown below are what I believe are the Lenovo part numbers of the item you need to buy.    For your FLex 20, they show two possible versions, so you would need to verify which version you have presently before buying a replacement.   I  found one source for the LG Version 888015672 at http://ecomhq.com/products/888015672-lenovo-ideacentre-flex-20-19-5-touch-module-lcd-screen?variant=...  so I would suggest you contact them for more information. The Hardware Maintenance Manaul has the instrution on how to replace, but Lenovo does not recommend that users replace them, and certianly not under warranty, which it sounds like it no longer applies. Lenovo Flex 20 All-In-One PC Hardware Maintenance Manualhttps://download.lenovo.com/consumer/desktop_pub/lenovo_flex_20_hmm_20130902.pdf Notes:FRUs that have a 1 or 2 in the CRU column are Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs). ? 1? identifies parts that are fairly simple to replace, requiring few or no tools. ? 2? identifies parts that are slightly more difficult to replace. ? N-identifies parts that are not to be replaced by the customer. LCD Touch Module                                                                FRU                          ... Read more

Hi, recently I cracked my screen on my Lenovo Flex 2-15, the screen itself is perfectly fine, however the glass infront is cracked and the does screen doesn't work in most areas, therefore I'm assuming that I just need to fix the glass digitizer infront of the LCD, having looked online I can find the part I need quite easily, but am a bit concerned about fitting it as I can't find any tutorials, is it even possible to do? I'm guessing I remove the bezel at the bottom after having undone the screws, then undo the middle screw underneath that in order to flip over the screen?

Hi,

I have a Flex2-14 and recently I have been facing problems after logging in the system.
Once I go through the Welcome screen & open the IE browser or any App, it automatically shuts down and comes back to Welcome screen. While trying to open the IE Browser, I have observed a window pops up with title "RT Driver... Face Tracking" and then I am again directed to the welcome screen. It seems that there is a process which is still loading & If I try to access anything before that, it throws me out.

Any resolution or suggestions?

I have an HP TC4400 Tablet PC with 1024x768 resolution and i want 1280x800.

1) Would it be possible for a 12.1" wxga (1280x800) screen to work correctly in it? Does HP use a generic monitor plug-in for all their laptops that would allow the screen to plug in?

2) If the resolution was higher would that require a new digitizer?

I know these are tough questions to answer unless someone on here as done this in the past but any input would be appreciated.

Does any one KNOW it the back cover for the Edge 15 80H1 and the Flex 2-15 are the same. They look the same but looks can be deceiving. Any Help will be greatly appreciated.

The part number for the LCD back cover is 5B30G91193; and it works for the Lenovo Flex 2 Pro-15/Edge 15. Confirmed it with the hardware manual.

Hallo, I own a x61tablet with 223 days of warranty left.A few weeks ago the "right-click" button on my digitizer pen broke and is probably still stuck inside the pen holder device.I couldn't verify this because I do not want to open it myself due to the warranty restrictions. However the drop-out mechanism of the penholder does still hold the pen but won't release is properly. Now there is a possibility, that the "right-click" button got lost a long time ago and that the created gap on the pen is responsible for the jam inside the holder. Is there a way to just get the pen fixed without sending in the whole tablet?I need it every day.

Hi there - I have an Aspire V5 touchscreen - when I went to close the lid, the screen cracked and I spotted that the left hinge has come apart (risen and cracked the screen). Now the laptop wont work (touch screen is flashing, mouse doesnt work - exactly the same issue as the other posts on this forum). I see on this forum and google search that this is fairly common with Acer laptops (going back to 2010) and wondering why this wasnt fixed. Has there been a recall on this, does anyone know?  I see from a google search that HP fixed a design flaw on their laptops to stop this from happening once it was reported, several years ago (2008) (I wish I had known about this problem before I purchased). If you google that you'll get the information. I've only had my laptop a couple of years. I take excellent care of my laptops, and never had this issue. (I dont travel with it, and dont close the lid often - it sits stationary on my desk and is only 2 years old).   I've sent emails out to my friends working in technology this afternoon - and so far no one has ever had this issue although no one has Acer.  Its a huge inconvenience as I use this laptop for work.  So I'm just waiting to hear back from Acer.Any suggestions on getting this fixed or replaced asap?

I have recenty purchased hp pavillion x360 13 s194nr its front glass has been broken Touch functionality still works and the image seems fine behind the broken glass parts. Now I've asked some service centres in my country about parts, and they said that I would need to replace the whole front (LCD+Digitizer}. He said that your digitizer is so close to your lcd in removing the broken digitizer/glass there is 98% chance that your lcd will break. So how can I be sure of exactly what parts needs to be replaced?

My Lumia 525 screen broke today. The IPS LCD panel is working fine but the digitizer in broken. It has just been 2 months. How much will it cost to repair in India. And can I get it replaced with Gorilla Glass? Please help!! I

Answer:Nokia Lumia 525 digitizer broken!!

I don't know since I'm not in India, but it probably won't be cheap if you get official Nokia service.
You can attempt a DIY repair only if you're comfortable enough and properly equipped.
You can't get it replaced with Gorilla Glass, it'll be best to get a genuine original part. Also Gorilla glass is meant to be scratch resistant, not as much shatter resistant.
Also know that in this case, the 525 and 520 are identical.

I've never opened a laptop, so let's keep that in mind.

Last night my son dropped his laptop (HP ProBook 4525s). I found out this morning, opened it up and discovered that while he can still see what's going on on screen, can still access the internet and do the bit that he does use on there (he's a young teen), the screen is a bit of a mess with some cracks and black patches.

So I think I know enough to have realized that he needs either to have the screen/monitor replaced by the manufacturer or we need to find a new monitor that we can just plug into the VGA spot (and the necessary cable?), or buy the necessary parts to replace it myself. In that order I imagine - the most cost effective way is to do it ourselves. The problem is that I have no idea where to look for parts, what sites are trustworthy suppliers. The other problem is that I can't seem to see where the little rubber covers are that need to be removed to remove the screws to even start taking the screen apart. The only things that I see are 4 little circular spots right along the edge of the screen where it hinges to the keyboard part but am afraid to try to poke at them and find they are not something I should be poking at, you know?

No, we bought no extended warranty package of any sort. (This was what he could afford as he paid for it himself with $ he'd long been saving.)

I guess I'm looking for any input of any sort at this time. Thanks.

I dropped my laptop last night, it literally flung from my hands and bounced down the hallway, and landed on the screen's side
I didn't check it right away cus I was on my way to bed and didn't want to go to bed angry... but this morning I plugged it in and "Voila!" a cracked screen!!
It's an older model laptop (Dell Inspiron 1000) so I was already thinking of buying a newer one, but I have all my work in this one, therefore I still need to get it out of there. Is replacing the screen my only option? Yes, huh? It powered on, it started up (cus I could hear the little Windows startup chime and everything... I even heard the little "plup" when Skype starts... but I can't see anyting! Any suggestions???

I dropped my laptop about a month ago, for the first few weeks it seemed perfectly fine but over the lst cuple of weeks I've started having problems with the screen. It started off with a few flickering white lines at the top of the screen, and its been getting worse every day, sometimes the flickering white lines fill the screen, others it freezes and the screen looks like its filled with load of miniscule white squares, sometimes worse, sometimes just the top half fills with lines that gradient in strength from left to right.Generally I can move the screen forward and back until i find a position where it works fine, but it can take me up to half an hour of moving it to find a place where it doesnt flicker at all, until then I have to put up with a cuple of flickering white lines at the top and bottom til it gets so bad I have to move it again. Also I find putting pressure on the top of the screen or pulling it forward without letting it set into a place works if the screen freezes completely. Is this fixable as I realy cannot afford another laptop, and I'm having no problems at all other than this. Thankyou to anyone who replies

Answer:dropped laptop, screen problems

First questions would be how old is the laptop and how much is it worth to you?

Most likely the screen is damaged internally or the cable from the screen to the motherboard is faulty.
I'm sure a good PC repair shop could fix it for you but it will probably cost a bit of money.

I'm writing this to see if anyone else has had a similar experience.
I bought an XPS 15 9550 (non-touch) laptop in October from Dell. In mid-February, it suddenly refused to turn on and emitted this awful grinding sound every few seconds. I opened a ticket and sent in my laptop to be serviced. I just received it today (after 3 weeks), with a note that said that the computer was tested for full functionality and had been put through complete diagnostics...well, guess what...it's still broken with the exact same problem.
India was no help and now I'm going to be without a computer for another undisclosed amount of time. I'm considering stopping payments on my service plan and demanding my money back. Has anyone done this successfully, and if so, how?

Answer:Sent in my new laptop, got it back broken...still

You must call and arrange another repair attempt.
If you stop payment, you'll do only harm to your credit score -- and there is no provision for a refund unless the system is less than 21 days from shipment.  You can call and ask if they'll replace the system, but that's unlikely until after at least another repair attempt is made.

I've been using my Flex 2 14 for around 3 months. Hi there. I bought my laptop Aspire V 13 V3-371-558L not even 2 months ago, and sadly yesterday I accidentally dropped it on the floor and the screen broke. But only inside, the laptop screen case is just slightly dented but the image on the screen now is all white and "scratched" on the area where is dented. I had my Dell Latitude Laptop in a duffel bag and it slid off the top of my suitcase and fell about 2 feet to the floor in the lobby of a hotel while I was checking out.

When I got my laptop home and turned it on it booted up ok, but the screen is now black...I can barely make out the Windows XP logo and my destop icons.

Any suggestions on what might of happened on impact and how I might be able to fix it??

This makes me sick...here it is Thanksgiving weekend and I'll not be able to get it looked at until next Mon. if I need to take it to someone.

Any home remedies that I might be able to try out on my own would be greatly appreciated.

I searched and found posts about the backlight and inverter...could the drop have caused this problem?

Thanks.

Sounds like it could be the Hard drive. Have you any means of connecting the hdd to another pc? via a usb caddy. You could then access all your files and save them. Before you try using any re install or formatting (if the hdd is ok)Also the memory chip could have been damaged. This will create BSDs.Hope there are some pointers there.D

Answer:dropped my laptop worried if i damaged LCD screen display

Depending on how your laptop hit the ground, it may not be damaged. I have a HP Pavillon dv7 laptop. The screen went black, and when connected to an external monitor, it didn't work. Does that mean that the issue is from the motherboard.

If that is the case, the most important thing here is, can I retrieve the information stored on the hard disk? How can this be done with such circumstance?

Thanks.

In February of this year I purchased a built to order Lenovo Thinkpad W510. It's a beautiful machine, and I was overwhelmingly satisfied for until about two weeks ago when the screen randomly went berserk, crazy flashing and horizontal lines all over the place. I called Lenovo support and was directed to take it to a local dealer, Express Computers. I did so the following Tuesday, as it was a long weekend, so even the day I dropped it off to be fixed I had already been without the use of my PC which is critical for my business.Express Computers told me that it would be ready for pickup in three days, and that they would call me when they had diagnosed the problem. They never called, so I called them and they told me they were having difficulties because Lenovo was saying the screen must have been physically damaged. I treat this computer like a baby, it doesn't even have scratch on it let alone any damage to the screen.I called Lenovo to inquire and they said they knew nothing about this, and I should have the repair shop call them. I did so, and the repair shop called me back and claimed that it was another department at Lenovo giving them trouble and but as a courtesy they would order the part and replace the screen anyway. At this point they explained that the reason they suspected physical damage was because some kind of metal bezel around the screen was all bent. I can only assume this was done during manufacturing, because it most certainly was not done by me.The next d... Read more

Hi I have a Dell1720 that was on when I closed the lid and layed down my coffee table a bit to hard I guess, when I opened it back up it was frozed so I held in the power button in to restart. It begins start-up and manages to make it to the Windows Error Recovery screen with 2 options normal start-up and Start-up Repair but both will just return me to the same screen. I figure its my HD but didn't know if it can be save or at least maybe my data. BTW F2 and F12 boot still work on start-up. I tried to start up in safe mode but it just takes me to the same Error screen.

Hi all, this issue had never happened before last night and now it happens every time without fail. I can pick up my laptop from the side, as you usually would when carrying it around for example. But if I want to adjust it on my lap and I pick it up one handed from anywhere underneath/at the front of the base, the screen goes either black or black and white (like interference on a TV). Each time the fans continue to run and the light on the "on/off" button continues lit. I've tried flipping the screen around to activate the tablet mode but nothing changes. (I also experienced a problem with the screen doing this a few night ago, where I converted it back into laptop mode and the screen continued to display upside down and the mouse pad control was inverted. I fixed this by flipping it back to tablet mode and back to standard laptop mode) In the last 24hours, I've also had it blue screen telling me it found an error when I've moved the laptop using one hand under the front of the base and after restarting after gettting a black screen. Has anyone else had this issue and know how to fix it? I'm guessing it's a hardware issue, and in particular a conexion that is being affected when I put pressure on a point under the front of the base. It's only 4/5 months old so I wouldn't have expected issues like this so quickly. Thanks for any help in advanced

Let me start off by saying that I have spent two days looking on the internet trying to find information on this topic. I did find some forum threads, but none of them had a reasonable solution, or the responses were completely way off topic. So, for this reason I'm going to try and be as specific as I possibly can be.

Problem: There are many symptoms of this problem, involving web browsing, internet gaming, IM-img, and other internet applications.

Specifically on the web browsing, I have to click a link many times until it actually "catches" the link. I look at the progress bar and nothing happens each time I click the link until I get lucky and it "catches" it. It then slowly loads the page. This is true with hitting "Home" to get to my homepage, clicking confirmation buttons and anything that will bring me to a new page.

With Internet gaming I cannot connect to many servers, since I have to try several times. Once I have connected, I experience several problems, like lag (in servers that I usually do not lag in) and failed sending of messages (like when I type a message and hit enter, nothing shows and I have to try again and again until it shows, similar to web-browsing).
With IM-img, I usually cannot connect at all to the actual server. And if I do manage to connect, I sometimes lose my connection entirely, it just shuts down...

Downloading sometimes just hangs, it stops after downloading some amount. These problems started occur... Read more

Hi all,

I've had a search on the forum for the same issue but there doesn't seem to be any issue exactly matching this, so posting.

I bought an IdeaPad Flex 14 about 9 months ago. It was fine up til about 6 months ago.
Then it started to boot to a white screen everytime it's switched on. It doesn't matter if that is from Shutdown, hibernate or sleep.
As soon as the power button is pressed, there is a white screen, there is no booting information or Lenovo logo first, just straight to a white screen.

If connected to an external display (TV or monitor) then the 2nd display will show what you would expect: boot information, Lenovo logo, windows login. When you get to the desktop, everything as expected and all apps working.

You can also change the display settings to duplicate and the laptop display will change from white to windows desktop and the external display remains on desktop (so duplicate working fine).
If you change to extend, also working as expected.
Unplug the HDMI cable and back to white screen on the laptop.

I've noticed when you go into display options that the laptop seems to think that the laptop display is the 2nd display. I.e. if you click identify, the external display flashes a "1" and the laptop flashes a "2".
It's possible to change all this so that it's the other way around (laptop display now shows "1").
You can now unplug the HDMI cable (assuming you are on either the duplicate or display PC only option... Read more

Answer:Flex 14 - White screen - Laptop doesn't recognise ...

Not likely a general firmware flaw as I've not seen this discussed before. Unless reflashing the bios helps (so you have a corrupted bios) or resetting the firmware to factory default settings then I fear a hardware fault. Sounds like something to do with the screen rotation mechanism as connecting a second monitor as the primary will force landscape rotation (simply disabling rotation may have an effect, may not). Thing is, this is happening before even the bios is fully engaged so it feels like a problem with the hardware mechanism/detector. Do try imaging the drive then restoring to factory install. Just in case it is the UEFI boot mechanism getting messed up. This is just my thinking. I may, of course, be very wrong. This is where I would start to work it out from though.

Yikes....first rule....make sure you dry it 100% or it will shock and damage the components..... Shine a light bulb in the actual speaker (protect the screen so the heat won't damage it) and it will dry. Please make sure phone is off. This can take up to 24 hours. Let me know how it goes

Hi,
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge with an Intel I5 processor, 64 bit with no hardware upgrades (stock). I had accidentally stepped on the screen (fell off my lap and then crunch) which was mangled beyond repair, so I have been using it similar to a tower, with a VGA and/or HDMI connected monitor (my HDMI cable went bad, I picked up a new cable but hadn't hooked it up to the second monitor.
I started my free upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to 10 last night. I woke up to the black screen/mouse pointer issue which is what brought me to this thread. I tried the recommended fix:
1. Hit ctrl, type in password and enter
2. Win Key + P + Down Arrow. (Win Key + P only seems to do the same thing)
This brought up options to
1. Disconnect projector (Tried this and lost connection to the VGA even after reboot)
2. Duplicate (Screen is still black with mouse cursor, but I saw a little bit of red and blue pixels at the bottom where the task bar should be until I disconnected and re-connected the VGA, then it was back to black screen and cursor)
3. Extend (still black screen and cursor)
4. Connect Projector (still black screen and cursor)
I'm not sure what to do. I must have some OS installed, because I am able to also perform these operations from my USB Keyboard/Mouse. I'm just not sure how to get Windows back on my VGA connection (I haven't tried HDMI because I did not have it connected when I ran the update.) I thought Duplicate displays would do the trick, but apparently not. For a... Read more

My Flex 3 display has recently started flipping upside down into "tent mode" randomly. I have verified the setting in the diplay properties change to 180 with each flip and the problem corrects if I change back to 0 degrees, but the screen just flips again.  Hotkeys fix the problem and locking rotation also fixes, but if I don't lock the auto rotate, it happens all the time.  It never used to do this.  I have wiped the computer and reset to factory settings and this still did not fix the problem.  Any suggestions? TIA

Hi,

A disclaimer before I proceed. Im not the best with computers or computer terms.
I have a Samsung laptop (not sure of the model), and the screen broke months ago. Since then I've been using an external monitor without any issues until today. When I start up my laptop I can never see anything displayed on the external monitor until the log in screen. The monitor will always go into hibernation mode until the log in screen.

However, today it's taking longer to start up and I cant see what's going on. At first I thought windows was performing a disk scan but i waited over an hour! So that must not be the issue. I want to find a way to display what is happening on the external monitor if possible. I have been endlessly searching all day online for help. I would really appreciate any help/advice.

Thank you!

I have an Ideapad Y400, bought in December 2012, shipped with Windows 8. It recently malfunctioned after attempting to install Ubuntu as a secondary OS. It was very difficult to get Ubuntu installed because UEFI and Secure Boot were really trying to prevent it, but I finally got it installed and both operating systems worked for about 24 hours. Then, Ubuntu failed to start. Repeatedly. So I started Windows and it seemed like it was still working, except that occassionally when I tried to type, the keyboard would type a bunch of keys I hadn't hit and then stop responding for about 30 seconds. After that, it would work again for a little while.I ran OneKey Recovery to attempt to fix this, wiping my hard drive and reinstalling Windows 8 from scratch. Still didn't fix it. It actually glitched out once while I was still setting up my Windows profile, before it had even booted for the first time.So then I sent my laptop to Lenovo and, a week later, they sent it back with a new keyboard (despite me telling them that probably wasn't the problem). It worked for the next couple days, but as of today, it has started glitching again, a lot. I don't want to send my laptop to Lenovo again because I need it for the class I'm taking. Also, when they sent it back the first time they didn't even put it back together right. The back panel wasn't all the way in, and the panel underneath that was actually bent so that one of its tabs was sticking out the side of my laptop instead of being inside.... Read more

Answer:Ideapad Y400 keyboard broken after installing Ubuntu. Sent it in, Lenovo sent it back still broken.

Found a thread discussing this: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Ideapad-Y400-keyboard-auto-typing-and-out-o... Turns out, Y400s have a defect. If you enable 'Always On USB' in the BIOS / UEFI menu, it messes up your keyboard. I turned this on when I was trying to get my computer to recognize a boot USB. I'm surprised Lenovo's tech support is not already aware of this. I talked to about a dozen Lenovo employees, including a supervisor and a representative from customer relations, and nobody suggested that it might relate to my BIOS settings.

Thx in advance for your help.

Answer:Lenovo laptop flex 15 has blue screen w/ intelpep.sys error 0xc000007b

Bad driver. WhoCrashed will tell you in plain language why that is happening. The file is actually intelppm.sys, which is a part of Windows and allows it to communicate between the APU/CPU/GPU. This error has been around since Windows XP. There is no real fix for when it happens, because it has gone on for so long that Microsoft has not figured out why.

The only thing that you can do is roll back to a previous restore point before you started getting this error. Last resort would be reinstalling Windows 10 as a Clean update with the ISO from microsoft.com, not the Lenovo OEM.

I used a Samsung NP300E5A-A02UB laptop for over a year through an external monitor, ever since the screen broke on it. Never had any problems with it besides that. Until one day I, not thinking about it, shut down my PC through holding down the power button, because it was being too slow, couldn't even shut it down normally. But little did I know, doing that would make sure I can't use it again, as far as I can tell. Because I shut it down using the power button, I'm assuming the screen came up, the one either to repair or tell me the pc shut down incorrectly, or bios, or whatever it is. But since my external monitor doesn't turn on until after my pc is signing in, it won't turn on. Normally it would just kick on automatically when signing in. So I'm completely blind to what I'm doing and can't get my monitor on. Literally all I need is a sneak peak at it to get it to turn on all the way, but I don't know how. I've tried a few things already, that I've found online, but never though to ask about it til now.

I've tried doing the little closing and then quickly opening up the laptop screen to fool the pc into turning it on.

I've tried manually unplugging my screen, in hopes it would use my external as a primary instead.

I've pressed the appropriate F key, or combination keys to turn it on.

Possibly other things, but I forget, it's been a little while.

All of these with no luck.

Literally all I may... Read more

One laptop wire has broken (black wire from the screen to motherboard),yet the display is still showing, so everyone still wants to use it. Should I simply cut the bare gold wire from its breaking point (whilst off), and hide it for now inside the casing until I can get someone to rewire properly (no tools here and will need more wire), or not them use it at all? I will assume the screen uses more than one black wire for a stronger connection/signal? I have been told when it broke it did not work, but was not having any issues when I powered it myself. Thanks for any tips, if anyone knows what would be best to do

Gooday folks

laptop in question: Dell latitude D820

I am writing because my laptop has come down with a serious problem regarding my display on my computer. The appearance of the colours is distorted, there are horizontal lines accross the screen from top to bottom, and now if i leave the screen inactive for more than 5 seconds the screen goes bright and evntually black with the odd few green blobs remaining...odd.
This strange behaviour is present on the dell start up screen and there onwards.

fearing it is something more i hooked up an external monitor and enabled the screen. no problems. the external monitor does not present the above problems. no obvious slow downs in the compputers running behaviour.
so, the answer to this question may seem obvious but im not a technical person on laptop...but.
is my laptop screen toast in your opinion, or, could it be maybe the wiring? or something else?

i am writing this on the laptop with the external monitor.

Hi,
I have this problem that my laptop was broken by someone and now the screen is broken. It turns on normally, but it's completely useless since the screen is white and all scratched, I can't see anything... It's impossible to make him pay for a new pc or the repair, so I am asking how much would the repair cost?I heard they are really expensive and a new pc might become cheaper...it's a HP 620 laptop, only about a year old...

Also I thought that if I would buy a travel insurance now(it was broken when I travelled about 4 months ago)and then try to get the money from an insurance company, would the person who repairs it be able to see when it was last used and broken(before I got the insurance)?Or would they just replace the screen and not see when it was last used? That would be an insurance fraud I am afraid if I would be caught...but I just feel it is so unfair that a pc I bought with my money was broken and I have to pay for repairing it or buying a new one...

My Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop was on and when I returned to it about 15 mins later the right hand side of the screen was missing. Approx 2 inches were black and an inch of grey area. I restarted it and it doesn't just happen when I have the Windows desktop fully loaded it was still there while the Dell loading screen etc were on during startup (logging in password etc). I've left it off for over 12 hours now in case it was overheating or anything but this morning those 3 inches are all now black. We've also done a full virus scan just in case but nothing was found. Can someone pls tell me does this mean its totally knackered now? And what might have caused this to happen? I haven't got it dirty or wet at all. I can still use it to some extent but obviously with a bit of the screen not working I can't do anything on the icons on the right side of taskbar. Screen resolution is same as before so this isn't prob. Answer:Laptop Screen is it broken??? Pls Help

I'm not at all expert on this, but to me it seems that a part of the screen addressing has failed in some way, an dalmost certainly nothing you have done has caused it. If you are brave enough and skilled enough to open the case, you might find that it is just the ribbon cable connector that links the screen to the motherboard that needs reseating. You can prove that the laptop up as far as the display connector is working OK by connecting the video output to a desktop monitor. This page shows how the laptop screen is connected click here

Answer:Broken LCD screen on my T61 laptop

Kapc7, I would go to the Lenovo support site at www.lenovo.com/support and put in your system model type, then select the parts information link.  Based on your full model type (all 7 digits - 4 number, and 3 alpha/numeric) you should be able to see what FRU (service part) number applies for your particular LCD. You can order parts online, or call the boulder parts center at 1-800-388-7080 and have them price the panel for you.   You can also check ebay, or do a search on the web to find others selling that particular FRU number and make your decision on where to buy based on price, condition, and your level of comfort with the source. Mark

We had finally gotten a computer (laptop) last week (which husband had to fix first ) to be able to do some work for someone. Just got it up & running 2days ago and while at a friend's, someone stood it up next to a chair, and it fell over & actually broke the screen (looks kinda like you swiped the screen with a few different colored paintbrushes)! Due to a wildfire in August, we are very short on money so we will probably have to try to find a screen on craigslist or something. My question is Is there ANY other models that are apt to have the same screen or that can be easily used? If so, which ones are apt to be compatible or, if you don't know, how can I find out???
HP 2000-239dx
Thank you very much for any/all help!

P. S. Hopefully this was the best subforum to put this in. If not, either let me know or feel free to move it for me. Thanks

Answer:Broken Laptop Screen

A Google search for 2000-239dx LCD will turn up a number of pages of companies selling the screens and also people selling them on e-Bay. You could choose to buy from one of those sources. Some of the found pages may list other HP models that use the same screen.

An animal in my household must have stepped on the screem to my laptop, cause now it is visibly damaged. Im looking into getting a new screen for my Dell. Any advice where?

Answer:Broken laptop Screen

Seems your having a run of bad luck arent you, first your cable box is dead and now an animal has smashed your laptop screen, seems that 2009 isnt going to be a good year for you...

Ebay is a good place to get screens however and they arent usually to hard to fit.

Take my advice and get rid of the animal, they are cheaper to replace than a laptop screen

I have an old Dell Inspirion laptop with a broken screen. I have irreplaceable files on it that I want to save. When I hook it to a monitor the monitor doesn't detect it and goes into sleep mode. It's too old to connect it to my tv via hdmi cord, and I don't have an s-video cord. Is there an app that I can use with my android tablet as a proxy via usb cord? If not, is there anything else I can do?

Answer:App for broken laptop screen.

sounds like the video card is broken, as the monitor does not work
You wil l need someone to take the harddrive out and use it in a USB Caddy or connect to another PC to get the data off

Hello,I have a dell inspiron 1525 laptop and a few weeks ago it was dropped and the screen was broken. I have bought a new screen from ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DELL-INSPIRON-1525-15-4-LAPTOP-LCD-SCREEN-WXGA-/260537450874?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Computing_LaptopAccess_RL&hash=item3ca93e017a#ht_5732wt_1165).I got a computer specialist to fit it, but it is too dark (i.e. it is as if I have it on power-saver mode) and the brightening function using the 'Fn' button and the up-arrow doesn't work properly (it doesn't show the bar on the screen and has only two levels of brightness, both of which you can see what is on the screen ok, but as I said, the brightest level is only a bright as on power-saver mode).I rang the company that I bought the screen from and they said I could return it and they would send me a slightly different model. However, this new screen was no different. What do you think the problem is? The backlight? Or is the screen not fully compatible? I don't think the way it has been fitted is a problem because it was done by a professional.Any help would be much appreciated!steve

Answer:laptop screen broken

HiIf you still have the old screen or can lay your hands on it you will find the make and serial number on the back this is the screen you need. There are different recsolution and  aspect ratios some screens will fit but will not be very clear. Check this article out at http://laptoplogic.com/resources/detail.php?id=38 I believe the right resolution for your laptop should be WXGA+ 1440 x 900.Go back to the guy who fitted it he should have checked before fitting, I do when I fit screens

I've got my friend's laptop (Dell Inspiron 700m). It has a Toshiba HD. She broke her screen (she dropped the laptop!)...so you cannot read anything on it, ie, no desktop visible, etc... She is wanting to get her photos off of her hard drive, since she does not have any of them on CD's. Does anyone know how we can accomplish this? I tried hooking the laptop into my desktop pc's monitor, but it only says "No signal". Hope this is in the correct forum. My problem did not seem to be "Software" related. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! Shanrene

Answer:laptop with broken screen?

You can take the hard drive out and either put in a 2.5" USB enclosure or buy an adapter that will let you hook it up to a regular PC. If the drive is ok, you should be able to transfer the files/photos.

I have a broken screen on my asus eee 901 and have been trying to connect it to a spare monitor to test the damage. I have connected both the monitor and the notebook with the correct cable. The second screen shows windows booting up but then the green light goes out suggesting that it has defaulted to the notebook sceen which of course is just a scramble. Is there a way around this?

Answer:broken screen on laptop

Have you pushed the buttons to switch the screen from internal screen to external screen, its usually Fn + f5 for a Tosh lappy. David

Hi im pretty sure i know what the problem is but just want to check with you guys, i have a toshiba Equium M50-216 laptop, i believe the screen is broken, it isnt cracked and its still bright which makes me think the inverter is fine, the problem is there are loads of lines going across the screen and some going down the screen, there isnt a clear picture its just white, iv tried udpixel to try and see if it that would work, and iv checked the cable at both ends of the screen. so im guessing the screen needs replacing, i get a picture when pluged into a monitor so that out put is ok,can anyone just confirm to me that it is the screen before i spend 100 on a new screen

Answer:Broken Laptop screen

The brightness suggests the backlight is OK. Not sure if we can assume the inverter is though. Wait for another expert opinion, I`m not sure that the inverter failing would produce the symptoms you describe.

i have a netbook that the screen is broke ,well no crack, but a jumbled unreadable picture like its broke inside

it can be used with external monitor but do you think its a danger to health in some ways?

No. As long as there are no exposed wires anywhere, there will be no health hazards.

Note this could be a simple fix as it could simply be a loose wire to the netbook's monitor. Of course opening the case is often best left to a pro, but if you need portability, it might be worth having it checked out.

I have a nice laptop with a broken LCD screen. I would like to continue using it as a desktop connected to a regular monitor, but I cannot figure out how to configure it to use the monitor as the primary display because it boots to the now missing LCD. I could configure it were the LCD working, but it isn't. Can anyone suggest a workaround? It is running Windows XP SP3 and I can see the "Windows XP" boot screen for a few moments at startup

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Answer:Laptop w/broken LCD Screen

Most laptops have a set of keys to press to enable the external monitor output. Usually it's FN at the bottom of the keyboard and one of the top F# keys - look at the pics on the keys for the right key or check the manual.

Hey guys, so here's the deal, I have a laptop that's about 5 years old, and today it flashed and is now displaying a 1-inch vertical black line through the screen which sometimes turns very weird colors.

This line will not go away when restarted, and I doubt it has anything to do with the software because right now the laptop is hooked upto another monitor and works fine.

Below is a screenshot of what my screen basically looks like. Is it costly to fix problems like this? Let me know if you need anymore information!

Thanks!

Answer:Laptop Screen Broken?

Yes it will be costly. For a 5 year old laptop it will not be cost effective to install a new monitor. Usually after 4 years or so things like the motherboard and monitor are too costly to replace in comparison to how much a new laptop would cost and how much the laptop is worth at that point.

Who is your laptop manufacturer? If you are in a situation were you really can't afford a new laptop then either purchase a new laptop monitor OR purchase a new LCD monitor to use.

Give us some more details and we could price some parts for you.

So I was using my laptop which I have had for a few years, and I closed it. When I came back there was a giant white mark with a jagged black line next to it and a bunch of multicolored lines. My laptop still works fine but this takes up a big chunk of the screen and I need to get rid of it. Please tell me how to fix and whether I can at home and what my options are for repair. Thank you.

Hi, I just made one of the clumiest mistake in my life. I recently dropped my 4 year old Dell Inspiron 15r onto the floor and now the screen is cracked, inside I think. I can turn it on but, I can't make out anything. What do I do? Is it cheaper to get a new laptop or get it fixed? If so any cheap, reliable places i could get it fixed? I'm not a really diy or tech savvy kind of person...please help.

Hi Guys, hoping one of you can help with this.
My girlfriends had a laptop for a couple of years and the screen backed up a while back which then lead to a seperate monitor but now it's given up completely.

I'm trying to figure out a way i can access her laptop through my PC but taking into account i can't view/action anything from the laptop.
Any ideas?!

You have two or more girlfriends and they shared a laptop and the only thing broken is the screen? Amazing!

If it was setup to allow Window's Remote Desktop or some similar third party remote access, you can use that. Otherwise, I think repairs or another laptop are called for.

I have a problem where the digitizer pen interittently stops working on the yoga S1 - win8.1 x64 with all updates applied.I can re-create the issue by folding the screen from normal mode to  tablet mode, then normal mode , then tablet mode. At this point, the pen susually stops working. I can get it to come back to life sometimes if i wait a minute, or if i go to power settings and apply / un apply something or by restart. It sounds like a driver issue to me - and possiby power management drivers - triggered by swithcing to tablet mode.I have tried max perfromance, min power savings etc to stop the screen driver being starved of power, have disabled sleep and hibernation. Done multiple driver re-installs, but no difference. Sometimes restarting the drivers relating to the pen and touch screen bring it back to life. But it should not die in the first place. Anyone else have this or do i have a hardware issue?

Hi My wife has had a Flex 3 15 inch for about 18 months, and now the power button has broken. It does not appear to be the botton on the outside, but rather the switch on the power board has broken off, according to the guy at Geek Squad. Question - does this mean the entire motherboard has to be replaced?  Or is the powerboard (if I have that right) a seperate board that can be replaced?

I was rotating my screen to the stand mode when i heard a clack and checked that one part of the hinge (i guess you would call it was really loose like it wouldnt go back to its original place, I want to fix it if its possible by myself so it doesnt get worse over time. I know itll get worse over time because everytime I open my lid, i heard a clack noise from that location. Any idea how to fix it? Was it stuck by glue or did something break off? This is what I am talking about. This is what it looks like. http://puu.sh/bzwx3/8115c7e034.jpg and this is what it should look like. http://puu.sh/bzwyb/5cdc511fd5.jpg ( looks like this on the other side of the laptop, the other side didn't break off only one side did)
